    Pumped.

Pace has three names, he says. If Garrett goes first, Allen, Thomas and Fournette are all graded on 6.8.

Has he crossed off Allen and put in Watson? If not QB first is it the safety, lineman or running back?

Just hoping it’s not a tweener or Lattimore’s hammies. There will be much debate after the first round pick comes in, I hope the possible displeasure with the pick does not generate much unpleasantness on the blog, and that we’re happy with the remaining picks, all crucial to win a Lombardi – for that is the goal.

    Personal wishes.

I would grudgingly give up my third pick on a QB. For me, that’s Watson. Trubisky will also perhaps be okay, one day, in a few years. Watson looks like a guy who could use the safety net of riding the pine for a season or two. Injury has a way of accelerating such ascensions, but that is in the hands of the Gods. Glennon and Sanchez are veterans, and nobody is pushing the kid to start.

With that same pick we could pick up a solid safety or a generational RB that would be tough to bring down. Tough decision. Sit the franchise baby or draft a starter?

Malik ‘Julius’ McDowell (6’6 295). Obi 6’4 Kenobi (stick him in the box and it’s Adams-Plus, no?)

Budda. Bolles. Ramczyck. All interesting, and we could have two of them if we trade down, perhaps three of them if we traded back up too.

The trade-back might be what puts us over the top. But having a young QB in the fold that shows promise? Can’t remember it.

The 2017 draft – where not having a first round grade … means jack shit.

    • Big Mike

I don’t think Fournette is that good. Good, but not that good. Those scores are only useful for the outliers. Guys that are 7.5ish. The difference between a 6.8 and 6.6 on that scale is silly. Howard was a 6.1, so was Derrick Henry. Howard had 1600+ total yards Henry had 600. Derrick Henry might be a fine running back. Dak Prescott was a 5.4. Cody Whitehair 6.1

I love your passion for this. All we know is we don’t know shit. 🙂

You wanted Henry like in the 2nd last yr (maybe even 1st).

We got Howard for a 5th and a bag o chips (the knock off kind. Layz)

HBs are a dime a dozen, and when you have a runner up OROY and rushing champion, they’re a peso a dozen.

If Mixon falls to the 4rth, then jes.

If not, we got Howard, Benny the Jet, and some hungry HB eye gouging to make the roster.

        As it should be.

Here’s to hoping a 10 white RBs go in the first!

Henry’s great, they didn’t use him. Henry wasn’t starting.

    I have decided.

I think Pace will pussy out of drafting a QB in the first because of the ever-present stench of failure in his OCD nostrils.

    He’ll draft Soloman.

Rather than take a shot into the end-zone, he’s going to pitch left.

Watson will lead another team to a Lombardi one day, and this is our lot.

    Dear Lord,

Please give our brother Ryan a set of stones so that he can draft his QB.

Info I received last night and this morning….1- @AdamSchefter has reported that Browns may select Trubisky at 1. There is a growing belief around the league that it may be true 2- I’ll believe it when I see it but it wouldn’t shock me. 3- to further the belief Browns may take Trubisky, last night they called teams about moving down from 12. 4- if Browns were taking Garrett, they would need 12 to move up and to select Trubiskey 5- if Browns in fact take Trubisky, SF wins Powerball and gets Garrett.

    • Irish Sweetness

I’ll shit a brick if they do. SF will pick Watson, and then we’re stuck at 3 with our dicks in our hands, pissing into a gale force ten hurricane.

If they don’t, then we get Myles. Sweet.

“Dominant pass-rush ability and production in college. Remarkable burst off the snap. His first three steps can throw an offense into disarray. When he times the snap, tackles have almost no chance of catching him at the edge. Wicked, whirling, dervish inside spin move that’s reminiscent of Dwight Freeney’s. Charges, coils, and springs up into tackles to help facilitate a quality bull rush. Game-wrecking potential.”

      • Elect A Clown. Expect A Circus

You have wild imagination. SF will not pick QB at #2.

And yeah, we’ll be stuck at 3 with only 2 or 3 almost guaranteed stars.

    • BerwynBomber

Gabriel (on the radio) suggested the Browns would take Garrett #1 then move up via their #12 and second rounders to get Trubisky. Gabriel suggested one of their trading partners could be the Bears.

My suspicion is they are over-valuing Trubisky in that he might very well be there at #12. But then again it’s the Browns.

Its a business decision rather than a football decision. Owner wants to sell jerseys. Local kid Trubisky becomes Browns QB. That story will make him a lot of money.

Bottomline, Owner calls the shots and the only thing he really cares about is $$. Did same with Manziel decision.

      • Irish Sweetness

OJ isn’t making it to 12.

          • It’ll be a tough sell, that’s for sure.

Thomas, Allen and maybe even Hooker might make it to #12, but if they do, it’s because other teams are worried about them, so it’s a catch 22.

        • BerwynBomber

With two second round picks added in?

          • willbest

I don’t care if he goes from #3 to 12, with a 2nd this year and the browns 1st and 2nd next year. There is a pretty decent drop off from Thomas, Adams, Howard, Lattimore, to the next tier. He might even miss out on Barnett going all the way down to 12.

      • Only way anyone trades up w Bears is IF a team wants a QB AND believes the Jags will snatch one up right behind us.

No one really knows what the Jags want, but Bortles is not the answer, that’s for sure.

I don’t either. And your original post might prove correct. Hell, I hope for all parties involved the kid is innocent.

My only argument was that if an Ohio police force is involved (in this case, CLE’s) it is highly likely they will do everything in their power to help the OSU football player. Think Winston in Tallahasee but across the entire state.

      • BerwynBomber

Yeah, I’d wait for the entire story to shake out before passing judgment. Then again, I wouldn’t be surprised if Ohio State’s pull reaches to the CLE PD. That program’s statewide power is the strongest in the nation.

But I subscribe to the notion that these guys get away with more crap than they’re busted for. You might be surprised how many friends these huge programs have on local police forces. And Ohio State’s power might be like no other’s in that it is a football-rich state and the program has no in-state competition.

Two teams in the QB chase believe Trubisky will be the No.1 pick OR Cleveland will pay a truckload to move up to the 2 or 3 spot

    • Irish Sweetness

This. We miss out on the QB but we get great players in the next two rounds.

  • All the speculation now says Trubisky goes #1, Garrett #2.

IF true (huge if, I’m not assuming anything), I see #3 going one of 2 ways for the Bears:

    1) Pace’s preference is to trade down, but only possible partner at that point would be CAR if they decide they have to get Fournette before the Jags at 4. Bears move back to 8, where they likely choose between Johnathan Allen, Malik Hooker, or maybe Marshon Lattimore (Jamal Adams is likely gone by then). They pick up an extra 2nd in 2017 and probably some 2018 pick for their troubles.

    2) Most likely, nobody is willing to pay the price to move up, so the Bears stay put at 3 and draft Solomon Thomas. Bears build their defense around young pass rushing duo of Floyd + Thomas.

I’d be ok with either of those options, though as I’ve frequently stated my preference would be QB (Watson!).

I also think they’ll be watching to see if any QBs fall into the bottom third of round 1. Would not be surprised to see a 2+4 to move back into late round 1 and draft Watson or Kizer late tonight.

    • Elect A Clown. Expect A Circus

No. We need starters with 2 and 4, not a clip board holder.

      • Sooner or later they need somebody to throw the ball. You know what a great roster with a shitty QB is?

An average team. That’s the CEILING when you don’t have a QB. Which is why you continue to invest premium resources in the position until you are absolutely certain you’ve found one.

        • Elect A Clown. Expect A Circus

I would rather be Houston than Jaguars (who employ your strategy of keep taking shots at qb in first round). Bears had Cutler for 8 years, first four of them with a top defense.

I would rather roll with a Nate Peterman or Brad Kaaya than Watson, Kizer types.

          • In general you’re gonna suck if you draft poorly. The Jags have drafted poorly for years (just like the Bears).

The Texans have drafted well pretty much everywhere but QB. And look where that gets them: an early out in the playoffs, and they only get that far because they play in a shitty division.

          • Elect A Clown. Expect A Circus

            Two points:

1.Importance of QB is overrated when you don’t have a solid all round roster. Bears are far from having a solid roster on both sides of the ball.
            2. First round QBs have decreased value because the way college offenses have evolved. Most QBs are completely NFL illiterate. The difference between first rounders Trubisky/Watson and middle rounders Peterman/Kaaya types is getting less and less. So teams will continue to find quality starters in later rounds. College qbs who had some exposure to pro style offense will do well.

          • leftcoast dave

            C. J. Beathard.

          • I disagree about rest of roster. They have pieces for a solid (not spectacular, but solid) front 7. The OL is good and they have a good power running back. The WRs and secondary are a bit of a mess, but there’s potential there at WR and I’m assuming secondary gets addressed on day 2 of the draft in what is supposed to be a loaded secondary draft.

If the Bears had a good QB on the roster I’d be picking them as a playoff sleeper this year.

          • Elect A Clown. Expect A Circus

Mike Glennon has higher ceiling than any of these kids in the draft. Matt Ryan type ceiling according to his former coaches.

So good QB is already on the roster. Keep building the rest of the roster.Help Glennon out with a big, dynamic TE, a #1 WR.

          • Agree.

If Glennon comes out this class , he’d likely be graded highest.

Data is simply tied to his % analysis of having to draft 1st rd QBs without accounting for that each draft class is unique (see 2011 QB clusterfuck)

But like you said, the margin between 1st rd and later rd QBs esp in THIS class isn’t that huge.

Personally, I think Peterman is ahead of Kizer and Mahomes, and only SLIGHTLY behind Trub and Watson (their ceiling at least. Think Peterman has higher floor).

          • History says a highly regarded rookie has a better chance of panning out than somebody who just spent 4 years as a backup.

Either way, double your odds. Glennon + a highly regarded rookie.

          • SC Dave

Someone posted a factoid about the Texans having the most #1 picks of any team still on their roster. It was ungodly, something like the last 9 or 10 in a row.

          • leftcoast dave

Something like 10 of the last sixteen first round picks pro bowlers and only QB taken in first was in 2002.

          • So it’s not about drafting QB after QB.

It’s about drafting (and properly developing) the right one, period.

If you give an idiot 100 chances to solve a rubrix cube, he’s prolly gonna be just as successful on the 100th chance as in his 1st try.

        • Big Mike

Go big for the QB in 18 if the rest of it comes together. Glennon is not a dud. He won’t be what holds us back from our ceiling the next couple years. Injuries, bad breaks, this year’s draft not coming through, Kevin White being blah.. Those will have more of an impact on the bears not getting their 7-9 wins this year.

        • King of DBB

I’d rather GET TO the position that the Texans are in:

Having built a team that just needs a QB as the catalyst to get somewhere in the playoffs.

Right now the Texans are a Hennessey Z06 blown to 800bhp and the Chicago Bears are a 7 year old Mustang whose dyno is topping out at 210bhp.

Let’s fix the foundation elements before signing a hotshot driver.

          • Big Mike

Oh that hurts. Not even the 2 year old 6 cylinder mustang that puts out 300hp? Ouch…

          • King of DBB

I told Ginny she needs to regularly change her plugs but she doesn’t listen.

Why not go Adams and the the best available DL in 2.

Actually, I’d also be fine with Thomas and the obi or budda in 2.

Just say no to RG IV data

      • 1) Pass rush more important than S. Adams at 3 would already be among highest paid S in league, while Thomas would be below-average paid edge rusher. Much more value there.

        2) S is supposed to be much deeper in this draft. More likely to land a quality S at 36 (or even in round 3) than an edge rusher.

        • MB30SD

          Those seem reasonable to me

        • Irish Sweetness

And if QB is your poison, then that’s already been impacted by pick #3 methinks.

      • Irish Sweetness

Is best available DL rd 2 plus good SS … better than best DL rd 1 plus best safety at 36?

There’s about 5 safeties you’d be happy with here remember. The drop-off between linemen looks steeper this year.

    • willbest

      Baaahahahaha… Butt Fumble 2.0

Bet Mitch is feeling great about that one.

    • BerwynBomber

Albeit a couple of inches taller than Sanchez. But otherwise can see the comp.

Unless a QB is uniquely skilled — Rodgers, Wilson, Brees — size matters. If Matt Ryan was 6’2″ (as opposed to 6’5″) he would be no more than average.

Once a QB falls in that 6’2″ or below range, they better do at least one thing exceptionally well — like top of the league exceptionally well — otherwise it is doubtful their ceiling is much beyond average.

      • Big Mike

Trubiskie has a higher grade than Mariota on the draft tracker. Just a gauge. The draft tracker is as right/wrong as any of the tools out there. Gave Trubiski a 6.3, Mariota a 6.2. Dak Prescott 5.1..

        • That draft grade is nuts. I don’t exactly trust that Zeirlien guy doing it now. I trusted Nawrocki more.

Mariota had his questions, but no one doubted he’s a 1st rounder.

There’s real questions if Trub should even go in the 1st. I heard Casserly say Bridgewater would’ve been graded higher than any of these QBs.

After following this with @disqus_DztgdNPsoy:disqus, @MB30SD:disqus @Irish_Sweetness:disqus, Canada Bear, @leftcoast_dave:disqus Jefe and his band of bloggers etc.. I am convinced the DBBers are exceptionally well informed about the draft and the Bears’ needs compared to the average fan. Hell even more than a lot of so called bloggers and sports writers, who are either throwing out every scenario possible, or dialing it in and appealing to the “hate” (see tribune columnists).

With that said, we still don’t know, what our man Pace will do. Even after it settles, we still don’t know what we have. All we can evaluate is what it looks like Pace tried to do. So that’s what I’m watching for. It could be all we see tonight is the Bears taking the 1st, 2nd or 3rd best player on their board, depending on what the first 2 teams do.

    • King of DBB

He got injured. He showed he may have issues staying healthy.

He’s still part of the future, but he needs to show up in shape and stay fit for a whole season.

      • Big Mike

It was a high ankle sprain that never healed. That’s not a chronic injury. Once its given time to heal, the odds of it happening again are reset. Hicks and Goldman is strong combo. Add in Solomon Thomas and that’s a solid unit right there. @MB30SD:disqus would say, they better f’n get there quick because are secondary is .. (you get it)

I thought it odd so I looked at the name origin. Its apparently more common than I would have expected. So many last names form as more of designations. Either places they live like John Rivers (John by the River) or occupation Adam Smith (Adam the blacksmith).

        I found this interesting

English: topographic name for someone who lived near a place used for archery practice, from Middle English butte ‘mark for archery’, ‘target’, ‘goal’.

English: from Middle English butte, bott ‘butt’, ‘cask’, applied as a metonymic occupational name for a cooper or as a nickname possibly for a heavy drinker or for a large, fat man.

English: from a Middle English personal name, But(t), of unknown origin, perhaps originally a nickname meaning ‘short and stumpy’, and akin to late Middle English butt ‘thick end’, ‘stump’, ‘buttock’ (of Germanic origin).

German and English: in both Middle Low German and Middle English the word but(te) denoted various types of marine fish, originally a fish with a blunt head, for example halibut (German Heilbutt) or turbot (German Steinbutt), and the surname may in some cases be a metonymic occupational name for a seller of fish or salt fish.

i wish the draft wasn’t split up over 4 days.

    • AlbertInTucson

The draft is not held for the convenience / desires / likes of the fans.

It a simple matter of 4 days worth of ads vs. 1 or 2 days worth of ads.

Especially when one of your partners is bleeding red ink.

      • BerwynBomber

I’ve said this countless times on here but I am still surprised the NFL hasn’t instituted some sort of draft lottery system — a’la the NBA — if only to give the league one more offseason night of killer ratings.

        • willbest

The NBA did that to prevent tanking. But in basketball talent evaluation is a lot easier. And even sucking for Luck has gotten Indy exactly Zero Lombardi trophies.

          • BerwynBomber

NBA’s original motive is immaterial to the NFL. It would be an obvious way for the league to make a few more hundred millions (though yes I suppose they could sell it as a means to discourage suck for Luck).

The only issue would be a) how many rounds it would affect beyond the first (if any at all), and b) how many teams would be eligible (all non-playoff teams, say).

But neither of those two issues would be too difficult to hammer out.

          • willbest

If I were the NFL I would be more interested in figuring out a way to prevent the AFCS, Browns, Bears, Bucs, etc from perpetually sucking. That would do more to drive revenue than an extra couple hours of commercials some day in early April.

          • BerwynBomber

The league has done about everything it can to insure parity. Plus, the bottom feeders would still have the best chance at the #1 ping pong ball. The process just brings a few more teams into the fold, and yes, occasionally a longshot comes in as was the case with the Bulls when they won the pick for Rose.

      • willbest

Oh I tend to think its to give teams more time to wheel and deal. Assess unexpected things that might have happened, etc. If I were a GM I wouldn’t want a single day 12 hour marathon.

        • AlbertInTucson

Too much at stake to cram it back into one day, but stretching the process also keeps the brand prominent virtually year round.

        • AlbertInTucson

Also more time to spread rumors, disinformation and outright lies.

Kind of a double whammy with it being held later in the spring.

    3. Chicago Bears: Jamal Adams, S, LSU
In the days leading up to the draft, there is some speculation that Adams could go second overall. If he’s here at three, the Bears should strike. He’s arguably the safest pick in the draft and could cure the team’s long-term issues at safety.

How fucked would YOU be if Trumpty Dumpty decided to apply a higher tax bracket to your earnings and STOPPED allowing you to bypass income tax on your 401k withholdings?

Cause he plans to do JUST THAT.

    • evantonio

but the millionaires will still get their tax breaks, and that awful estate tax will be repealed, right? because that’s what will make this country strong.

    • willbest

Thus demonstrating the utter foolishness of having a press secretary Because there is no way 1 person can be informed on every aspect of the government to avoid this sort of nonsense. Of course, the midwit writing the article for Bezo’s blog doesn’t understand anything either.

401k contributions aren’t reported as income on your W-2. It will appear in box 12, but you don’t report report it as income on your 1040.* There is nothing to deduct. What Spicer is probably talking about is that they want to do away with all below the line deductions except for mortgage interest and charitable donations. The trinity in the below the line deductions (along with mortgage and charity) are the taxes you pay to your own state. So the real headline should read “Trump fucks over states that didn’t vote for him” since on average the high tax states voted for Hillary.

*A self-employed person with a 401k would report it as income, but then its a above the line deduction, so it also wouldn’t be affected.

That being said, both the charity deduction and mortgage interest deduction should be phased the fuck out. The WSJ had a study that showed that between half and 2/3rds of the mortgage interest deduction went to the real estate brokers and bankers. It is therefore the single greatest corporate welfare benefit provided by the government.

The charitable deduction is nice in theory, but the problem is it allows multimillionares and billionaires to set up foundations which their greatx8 grandkids will control without paying taxes. These are the foundations that hire the lawyers making it take 25 years to execute somebody (among other things).

Simply capping it at say $100k annually adjusted for inflation would go a long way to preventing a lot of mischief.

      • And if I had to further speculate, I would predict a team is trading up for a QB, Fournette/Howard, an Olinemen and WR (because those positions are rather shallow this yr, so once the top ones are gone, steep drop off).

  • Malice Halice

Wish I could join u fellas at Mother Hubbard’s. Funny cuz it’s my last name so I’ll make a note to stop by there next time I go back. I’m PRAYING we trade with da Browns n also pick up 1 of there 2nd’s. Our schedule is winnable IF we have D that can contain the Offensive-juggernauts of the NFCS n da AFCN (excluding browns) cuz both divisions is all O (except da steelers, ravens, n maybe Bengals). Besides the vikes I think we can do sumn IF we make the trade with the Browns n move down to 12 n take there 2nd round pick. Otherwise I’m ready to get another top 3 pick next draft!

  • Since they’re in Philly.

  • Latest rumor

4/27: The Browns will select Myles Garrett. – Adam Schefter, ESPN

Let’s not be like ESPN and actually cite sources correctly so let’s point out that Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer was the first to definitively say that Garrett would be the pick. If
Garrett is indeed the selection, the damage has been done to ESPN’s mock drafts, though I’m sure everyone’s mocks will be screwed up by various rades and bad-team stupidity. -Walter

  • King of DBB

    ESPN analyst

“Why do people keep saying the Titans are the Browns natural trade partner? Why would they help another AFC team? If the Browns want Trubisky they will probably target a trade with the Bears”

    • Malice Halice

Exactly! That’s the most logical move. Then we can either pick up a qb in the 2nd (from the Browns swap) or grab Buhda Baker.

    • It’s not about AFC or anything else.

It’s about the teams after them.

Jags aren’t linked to QB as much as the Jets are, ergo, the Browns will trade up before the Jets to draft QB.

If Browns really believe the Jags are in play for QB, then the Bears become trade partners.

And it’ll cost them more to trade with us than the Titans too, so kaching.

      • Malice Halice

Browns giving us the 2nd round pick or maybe one of their 1st of next year. They trading wit us. Fuckin better…

        • willbest

I have a hard time telling the shit from roses but it seems to me there are like 5-6 guys this year that separate themselves from the rest. We have the chance to get one of those guys. Trading away the chance at one of those guys should come at serious cost.

So if it goes Garrett, Thomas… and then the Browns want to move up. I want #12, two of their seconds this year and their first next year. But if its the Jets wanting to move from 6 to 3 to nab a QB, then getting their 2nd this year for our 5th would be just fine.

          • MB30SD

you sprint up and take adams straight to the dbackfield bank!

      • depends on how much Pace and the Titans are asking for. Pace might be willing to take a slight “discount” to still acquire extra value.

Depends on how different he thinks his options will be at 3 vs. 12 in terms of how he’s graded them.

        • Pace might give a slight discount. Maybe an extra 5th instead of a 4rth, but it should still be higher than the Titans.

What I wanna know is – how do other teams know which position a team is about to draft?

I think that’s a HUGE part of draft trades, and I wonder if they’re simply guessing, or if there’s spy networks and leaks all over the place.

Like did the Puke KNOW we were targeting Spriggs last draft, and therefore, traded up to snag him before us? Do they have informants at Halas?

Or is it just them guessing “Pace wants an OT – we should move up”

          ?

They did the same shit with Burnett a few years back.

          • MB30SD

cunts. FUCK the packers man. fuck ’em right in their disgusting uniforms faces

          • It wasn’t so bad last draft (unless Spriggs becomes an AP) since we ended up with Whitehair

But the Puke traded up for Burnette, and we ended up with…drum roll please…Major Wright.

Edit. Navarro Bowman was still on the board.

As much as people say BPA. You can always look at other teams needs to know what they have to get. Even if you aren’t entirely sure when they will get it.

And for GM’s who have been doing it for years, the “black box” on who they have been selecting starts to build a portrait of what they value.

Went to Toys R Us to see if they had the new Nintendos for my nephews.
The new nintendo Switch is sold out!
Dude says they’ve been sold out. Will be sold out. Here’s a lottery ticket. Via con dios.

      Da Fuq!?

Is it made of plutonium which can only be processed in 3 places around the world?

      • willbest

Its standard Nintendo operating procedure to only meet 20% of their demand

        • willbest

The $60 Nintendo classic mini was being scalped for $200-250 on ebay this past Christmas. Why they didn’t just make three times as many to meet demand is beyond me.

          • Yeah, I heard they do that, so waited a bit. It’s been out since March. Crazy. Dunno what they’re accomplishing by this. Do they assume the consumer will wait it out an buy it anyways? That’s a lot of consumer brand faith.

I’m about to buy them a pinata and call it day.

          • SC Dave

Maybe free advertising from peeps bitching about not being able to get one?

          • Yeah, maybe.
            I’m wondering if it works.

For kids I think it would work. Kids are very specific. They don’t want addidas, they want nikes. They don’t want PS4s, they want Switch

But for other consumers who aren’t die hard and on the fence, this could determine them spending $400 on a PS4 or new gaming laptop or something.

          • willbest

They are pretty loyal. My mom had an estate sale when she was moving away from my childhood home. Included were all my NES and SNES games. It started at whatever it was 8am, and she had 1 guy show up at 5:30am and by 8am she said there were a 7-8 of them. All of my old consoles and games were gone by 8:15.

The lady that ran it said she sees those guys every time old consoles are included in the sale.

          • See above/below

And still. You’d figure Nin would REWARD such loyalty, as opposed to making them shoe up at 5am and waiting hours to get shit, or have to pay4X as much through eBay or something.

I know that would tick me off, esp knowing they could easily mass produce consoles like Sony.

Wouldn’t surprise me of it’s some Nintendo executive racket where they get an extra 100 consoles they sell on the side or something.

Some people are saying that Trubisky will get traded to Cleveland. Him getting traded to Cleveland and us fleecing them for Trubisky is the ONLY WAY this will make any sort of goddamn sense.

    • SC Dave

      Lol…. maybe

    • BerwynBomber

      That would make sense.

    • Ososfan

Please…. Pace already fucked us. Don’t add salt to the wound.

  • willbest

If he was going to do this why isn’t butt fumble or Hoyer our qb 1 instead of giraffe

  • So the 9ers told the Bears give us what you got or we’re drafting Trubisky?

    • FresnoBear88

      Pretty much! We got raped

  • BillW

And after months of being absent – the poster formerly known as Eeyore returns to say

    WTF???!?!?!?!?!

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

      formerly?????

      • SC Dave

        You are truly an asshole

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

          yes, yes i am.

        • BillW

It was in good fun – I take no offense – in fact, it was (relatively) affectionate.

      • BillW

        Ya got me…

      • Formerly known as Mitch

  • FresnoBear88

Miners are fuckin laughing at us! They got More picks and the player they wanted!

  • Malice Halice

For once I’m actually emBEARassed to b a fan. This is hurrible

    • King of DBB

Well for me it’s like the 10th time in the last 10 years.

This is on par with the Trestman MNF game against the Saints

  • Bender McLugh

    OH THE HUMANITY

    • MB30SD

      duuude

      • Bender McLugh

Seriously. You know I wanted not this. But Pace showed his ASS in here, and he likes his ass. Apparently alot

  • TomC

I hope they’re right, and we’re all wrong. I just really, really doubt it.

  • King of DBB

Is it bad that I wonder what Phil Emery would have done?

    WWPD

    • SC Dave

      Change your avi!!

  • SC Dave

Pace seems to be on someone else’s payroll.

    • ButtonShoes

      Yeah, the Peckers.

  • SC Dave

I wonder who the Panthers will get….

  • Bender McLugh

    Trubisky era begins bitches. DEAL!

    • willbest

      After the bye, sure

    • Sactowns#1

Lol. Appreciate the optimism but the guy is dogshit. You can highlight this post and revisit it next year.

      • Bender McLugh

He’s dogshit? My my, so certain

      • Bender McLugh

If QB I wanted Watson. But i am not sad just perplexed

        • CanadaBear

He seemed Cutleresque when I saw him. Not what I wanted but if he pans out, woo-hoo!

  • chitownproud85

Pace – “The plan is the plan and this is a process”(paraphrasing of course)

    Also Pace – “YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW MOTHAFUCKAZZZZZZZZZZ!”

  • BillW

Now let’s see if Pace trades him to someone else – if not, well – I’ll still be a Bears fan but this is three horrible GMs in a row.

    • King of DBB

      Bill –

I hearby grant you permission to Eeyore the whole damn season.

      • BillW

        I don’t think I care enough

        • King of DBB

Unfortunately at this stage I don’t think any of us do.

          • Bender McLugh

            Pssshhhhhhit

  • evantonio

small price to pay for a record setting, SB MVP winning, 1st ballot HOF quarterback.

  • Malice Halice

    Jags finna tear shit up!

  • FresnoBear88

Even if Pace was set on a QB was Trubs the best?

    • Irish Sweetness

      Nope!

  • ButtonShoes

Shit. Now I get all that crap before the draft about the Browns wanting Trubisky. They must have been leaking that shit all over the place to get a haul off the Bears.

    • evantonio

yes. the browns were leaking that they wanted Mitch so they could get a haul that actually came in the form of picks going to the 9ers. makes sense.

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

must be a special night, we are so lucky. we get graced by appearances from BillW and ButtonShoes.

    • BillW

I had to see what you guys were saying. I thought maybe I was out of touch and this was actually a GOOD move. There is SOME normalcy in the world. I needed someone to keep me semi-sane after this weird (to put it kindly) move

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Honestly, I don’t mind the move.

        • BillW

          Well, that makes one.

Seriously – it just smacks of desperation to me. I know very little about him, but what I’m reading he’s not worth what they gave up when there are SO many holes.

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

According to twitter – Jeff likes it. so there are 2 of us.

          • I can understand getting your guy.

I don’t understand how much they gave up to move up one spot.

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

2 3rds. who cares. are you worried we won’t draft a slow white safety now?

          • Those 3rds (and 4rth) are starters on this team.

            It’s an all-or nothing move.

This also effectively takes us out of the 2018 QB draft class.

          • willbest

Well since we will be drafting top 5 again we should get those picks back

          • Let’s say we even earn the #1 over all.

Will Pace draft Darnold after giving up all that for Trub?

At that point they’d likely pull a Titans and trade rape down.

        • Irish Sweetness

Giving up picks for a player that was going to be there anyway?

  • King of DBB

    Everyone:

    Open this link: http://player.radio.com/listen/station/670-the-score

Tom Thayer is one pissed dude

    • BillW

I think O’B will be joining Doug before long. I know that’s in questionable taste, but seriously – this is too much.

      • King of DBB

Right now Doug just started a bar fight in heaven.

  • willbest

At times like these I ask myself if Satan were the GM of the Bears, what would have been done differently

    • ButtonShoes

Satan would probably run the team better.

      • MB30SD

my asshole could run this team better

    • Ososfan

      Fuck Satan and fuck Pace

  • Bender McLugh

“Trubisky is our quarterback. Next question.” – Pace, 11-2018

  • I bet Pace “unknown sources” at Halas are gonna start circulating that the Jets were going to give 9ers the moon to draft Trubisky in order for damage control.

    • jab

Pace isn’t what I hoped he’d be. He bit on a move from a rookie GM and way overpaid to move up one spot for a guy that would have been there one spot later.

  • BearDown100393

Well at least this will quell politics on the board for awhile.

  • willbest

    Jags acting stupid too

  • Joecashflow

This guy has a 13 game sheet. That’s it. Desperation move.

  • King of DBB

    Jags took Fournette.

    #NewAP

  • Malice Halice

    Buddha Baker with the 2nd n I’ll b happy

    • ButtonShoes

Are you kidding? Pace is going to trade down with that 2nd. He has to recover some of the value he lost trading for MITCH FUCKING TRUBISKY. Jesus Christ, every time I say it I feel ill.

      • Malice Halice

Lmao I feel u tho, idk what pace can do bring a bona-fide starter wit the next pick

  • King of DBB

Bears are going 100% white this draft.

    #AntiMocha
    #AntiManMountain

  • BearDown100393

    Jay Cutler got Mitched.

    • willbest

Should have fucking kept cutler if this was the plan

      • BillW

My thoughts exactly. I’m sure Jay is laughing at this

        • BillW

Wait – isn’t he a free agent still??

          • willbest

            Yep

  • willbest

Didn’t see a WR going this high

    • BerwynBomber

Nor Davis over Williams. Definitely a PON over BPA pick.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

      Titans needed one.

    • evantonio

and not one from western michigan

  • leftcoast dave

    Good for that kid.
I was expecting Adams or Lattimore.

  • King of DBB

    Skip Bayless‏ @RealSkipBayless 18m18 minutes ago

I said today on Undisputed: You could watch Jay Cutler for one game at Vandy and you said, “Wow.” You watched Trubisky and didn’t notice him

    • evantonio

      What did “Wow” translate to?

      Shut up, Skip.

    • “Exciting!”

This actually gives me hope Trub is better than advertised.

    • BerwynBomber

Cutty was TO-prone in college too, and Bayless is a fellow Vandy alum.

But Cutty had more wow than Trubisky.

    • Bender McLugh

      Fuck Bayless jeezus.

  • jab

This smells like an upper office move to me. Pace and Fox are fighting for their jobs and they go for a developmental qb?

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

who says they are fighting for their jobs? no reports that either one was on the hotseat.

      • ButtonShoes

They will be now, whether they like it or not. Trubisky better be everything they are dreaming he will be, or neither of them will get to run a team EVER AGAIN.

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Pace will most likely have 2-3 years after this year.

          • King of DBB

            Nope.

He will get one more year.

          • BillW

Two – maybe. Three – no way. Unless he was TOLD to do this, he may not last the year. If the the guys picked at the spots the Bears gave up look good, Pace will be dead meat.

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

this is the same ownership that gave Angelo how many years?

          • chitownproud85

…unless Trubs ends up a franchise QB. then i’d say hes pretty safe. no clue why they gave up a kings ransom to get “some guy” but lets not call Trubs a bust before hes been to his first offseason program…

          • BillW

Again, i’m ignorant on him but I’m seeing nothing to indicate he was worth giving up 3 potential starters on a team with so many holes.

          • chitownproud85

Totally agree with this comment. I’m just saying if you want to bash the trade, i’m all about it. but we dont know jack or shit about what Trubs will be. i fucking hate it, fuckinggggggggg hateeeeeee ittttttttt, but i’m not already worrying about how good the other picks look. focusing a little more on ours lol

          • Bender McLugh

            Hope springs etern….meh

      • jab

They’ve finished last in the division for two years during their tenure and the team has finished last 3 years in a row. Coaches and GM’s have a finite time to produce results. I’m hoping Trubiski is the next Rodgers, but I just don’t see it. This just seems like a desperate pick.

    • Bender McLugh

      Noope

  • King of DBB

Watson just said the Bears made a huge mistake. Kid has balls.

    • ButtonShoes

      He ain’t wrong.

  • willbest

From a friend “look on the bright side, think of all the disappointing draft picks you won’t have to be frustrated with now”

  • Bender McLugh

Seriously, nothing. At all. Shoukd be shocking.

    https://youtu.be/1CpRCc4Jre8

This is pace flopping his cock on the table. His guy.

    Adams….. Oy

    • MB30SD

one of my all time favorite bands. How DARE you pull them into this fucking shit show

      • King of DBB

        Love Jane’s.

        • MB30SD

watched dave navaro stuff a fucking dildo up his ass on stage while playing summer time rolls.

          Yeah, surreal. but amazing music

      • BearDown100393

        Ted….. Just Admit It

  • leftcoast dave

    BPA???

Ok, didn’t want to draft Adams or Lattimore that high, didn’t like Thomas as a tweener or go for TE this high. Apparently, didn’t think he could sell down.

Soooooo. “The most important position, BPA, s t f u, it’s done, ok?”

Not that I like it one bit, but hey, if it works, you’ve got an extra QB to trade.

  • BillW

OK – I’ll admit to not following the QB discussion prior to the draft because there was no way I thought the Bears would take a risk given so many other needs and apparent solid D players.

And I assume this si a question for another thread – tomorrow maybe.

But ignoring wha they gave up for him – is he a potential solid starter or not? And if so – this year or down the road. And if down the road, was he worth passing on a relatively sure starter on D this year?

    • Irish Sweetness

Won’t be ready for two years Bill.

  • King of DBB

Bears only have 4 more picks this draft.

    facepalm

  • Malice Halice

So obviously them huff ass additions we got in FA prompt pace to FUCK OVA our basic front 7. We r gettin DESTROYED by GB twice, the Whole NFCS, steelers gone b scary, Browns beating us by 20+

  • MB30SD

Look, I’m just praying Pace is pulling a fucking sunny weaver right now.

Come on Browns, please god make this happen… please please please!

    • leftcoast dave

Amen to that. Let that boy go home to play!!!!!!!!

    • In order for us to recoup those picks, the Browns would have to give us a top 3 pick, plus another 1, and a few extras.

In other words, I don’t think anyone down the line will give us back as much as we gave up for Trub.

      It’s Trub or Bust.

      • MB30SD

        no but recoup somefuckingthing

      • Malice Halice

Hopefully we trade trub to Browns for the 12 n 2nd rnd

        • Yes, but then that means we still lost out on a guy like Thomas or Adams.

          It’s not happening.

          It’s Trub or Bust.

          • Malice Halice

            Ohio Db’s still here.

    • ButtonShoes

The Browns aren’t being run by idiots any more, it seems. And it looks like we’re the new Browns. So I doubt it happens. But who knows? There’s still some time left.

    • Ososfan

      We are the new Browns.

  • Well, I said Safeties won’t go top 5 this year, and I was juuuuust right.

Allen and Hooker gonna drop due to inj concerns methinks.

    • MB30SD

fuck, jets just got the best player in the top 5

      • willbest

        Garrett went 1

        • MB30SD

          sorry, mean after him

          • Bender McLugh

            No sorry for you!

      • leftcoast dave

        And didn’t overpay for him.

  • King of DBB

    DaBearsBlog @dabearsblog
There’s nothing to slaughter. He’s a wonderful prospect, my second favorite player in this draft.

    God. Jeff LIKES this pick.

    I got nothing.

    • MB30SD

      of course he does.

Holy fuck we’re going to be dogshit fo evah/

Come pace, sunny weaver this bitch!

    • ButtonShoes

Of course he likes this pick. He doesn’t think draft picks are worth anything. And he believes in Pace. He may be the only one left who does.

    • Ososfan

Jeff just wants the comments and clicks.

      • Big Mike

        No, he really likes Trubiskie

        • BearDown100393

He is also going on a bender tonight.

  • BearDown100393

“I will drink the rest of the night”

    Why?

  • King of DBB
    • MB30SD

      please 8lb baby jebus. pleeeeeeeaaaaase!

  • 505Bears

Just landed and i get this news? Ah, gonna suck another 5 years

    • King of DBB

Ryan is going Full Sonny Weaver on this.

He’s going to trade Trub for all the remaining Charger picks.

      • leftcoast dave

        Yes, yes, yes.

      • 505Bears

He better do something. Going to be a mob outside his place tonight with moving van in tow

        • Ososfan

          Fuck Pace man.

          • Bender McLugh

Shew! Come on Osos, it ain’t that bad. I mean….. Okay, it’s not great

          • Ososfan

Bender, you were sane and content while most of us wanted the org to burn last night, haha

          • Bender McLugh

            understandable, kind of

  • willbest

Peterman is going to be ROY on the jets being picked up in round 4

  • BuddhaJoe

So they gave up THREE FUCKING PICKS TO MOVE UP ONE SPOT IN THE DRAFT TO GET NOT EVEN THE BEST FUCKING QB IN THE DRAFT?!?!??! Even fucking Emery wasn’t that fucking stupid.

    • BearDown100393

Emery would’ve shot his entire wad.

      • BuddhaJoe

Emery just blew one pick at a time, not four at once.

    • Big Mike

two picks, we swapped first rounders.

      • BuddhaJoe

The 3rd and 4th, plus the 3rd next year.

        • Big Mike

you are right, trade just got worse… 🙁

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

it was the extra 4th we traded this year. So we still have a high 4th round pick.

  • leftcoast dave

“12th pick and the Browns trade it to the Bears.”

  • willbest

    Who is our QB coach?

    • BillW

      Birdcage?

    • BearDown100393

      Jay

    • Ososfan

      Vic Fangio’s hat

  • King of DBB

So the Bears had Kizer in TWICE and didn’t even talk to Trubisky and then traded the farm for him.

    SMH

    • BearDown100393

The Bears had no use for either Cam Brady or Tom Newton.

  • BearDown100393

Ryan Leaf is feeling much better now.

  • MB30SD

I just turned the score off… they were going into Jamal Adams porn. couldn’t take it, just couldn’t

fuck man, so fucking disappointing. I didn’t expect adams (I was hoping), but I did expect thomas and the rest of our fucking picks man. For motherfucking fuck sake

    • willbest

Offense going higher than the mocks. Maybe you get hooker in 2

    • Bender McLugh

Yep. At least there’s a guy that might be our savior st QB in two years. Yaaaaaay!

    • King of DBB

      yeah. i’m out.

Going to be a Cubs fan this summer and not go to Bourbonaiss.

I said that the 3rd year is usually when a GM goes and hangs his hat on a QB, I said that all spring but I did not expect to do it in SUCH a shit ass way. We are now the worst team in the NFL, we are making the Browns look good. We are making the Niners look good.

      Yeah. Done and done.

    • Malice Halice

      I think we gone trub

    • BearDown100393

      Hooker!

  • BillW

Wait – there’s ANOTHER WR named Mike Williams?

  • BearDown100393

The Bears are facing a Facebook onslaught.

    • ButtonShoes

Good. I hope they get shit on endlessly, non-stop. I hope it goes on continuously until the McCaskeys announce they’re selling the team, to spare us any more of their constant failure and mediocrity.

    • Bender McLugh

      Wow. So sad.

    • Ososfan

      I hope so! Fuck!

  • AlbertInTucson

I do not even pretend to understand what the Bears did today.

    • ButtonShoes

It’s easy to understand, actually: the Bears are run by idiots.

  • Bender McLugh

Member when we drafted Adams & then traded up for trubisky? Member?

    • chitownproud85

      Oh yeah, I member…

    • Irish Sweetness

      I member …

    • Big Mike

member when we were wondering who was going to get desperate and get fleeced to take a QB? We were thinking Jets, Cleveland. Who knew it was us. Pace just blew all the goodwill he’s built up. Angelo, Emery and now Pace on his way to join them.

      • Ososfan

Seriously, this is a nightmare man.

        • Bender McLugh

More of an annoying wake up to shit out the buritto

      • Bender McLugh

Big ol’ fuckin IF in there man

        • Big Mike

Can’t believe we did this. My goodness I hope Pace is right.

    • BuddhaJoe

      Pepperige Farm remembers.

  • BearDown100393

    Tank for 2018 has begun.

    • willbest

It’s not tanking when you just suck

      • BearDown100393

Pacebot in programming paradox hell over how to trade up a #1 pick for 2018.

    • jab

Maybe you’re right. Tank another year or two and keep picking high in hopes they’ll find that franchise QB.

      • BearDown100393

We’re gonna stock our own Garoppolos.

  • willbest

Vic is crying in a corner somewhere

    • MB30SD

*I* am crying in a corner somewhere. this is ludicrous speed

    • Ososfan

I posted before. I hope hew fucking leaves he doesn’t deserve this ineptitude bullshit!!!

  • willbest

RBs x2 in the first 10 smh

    • Irish Sweetness

      WRs x 2 in the first 7.

      • Bender McLugh

All 4 are studs. For real.

  • Bender McLugh

“…. and with the (2nd pick) off the 2017 NFL draft, the Chicago Bears pick Jake Butt of Charmin University.”

    • Big Mike

The way this has gone, they’ll take an injured player.

  • chitownproud85

I dont want to punish tender nether regions any further, but people are still mentioning how much the Browns love Trubs and how they are still set to pick at 12 and have enough fucking picks to buy anything they want. So maybe its not over, right? Maybe there is some crazy shit lining up here?

I say all this because I know they wont be trading with the Bears to get Trubs – they’ll pick D Watson, the QB that should have been the first one picked – and the Browns giggle all the way to bank and select a ton of talent in what is considered a very deep draft.

    Kill me.

  • AlbertInTucson

Did we just save Cleveland from themselves?

    • AlbertInTucson

      Or was it The Jets?

    • Big Mike

      We are Cleveland now.

      • Bender McLugh

        No

  • Irish Sweetness

Today I realized that Ryan Pace is not a smart man.

If Trubisky was his man, then okay, but trading up?

    • Only 2 semi-rational explanations.

      1. Bears were bidding against Jets or maybe even Browns.
      2. 9ers said they were gonna draft Trub unless you make us an offer we can’t refuse.

(the latter is more disturbing cuz no way Pace could verify the 9ers would indeed draft Trub and not Thomas)

      • Irish Sweetness

We didn’t even pick the right one!

      • chitownproud85

It seems pretty certain based on teh coverage so far that there was indeed a bit of a bidding war shaping up for pick 2, but why the fuck we would get involved in it for that guy, i have no idea. what are all these people seeing that a million others dont?

        • Bender McLugh

          Million? Easy now

          • chitownproud85

Just meant that the general consensus certainly didnt point to Trubs value being at 2…or even necessarily the best(or 2nd best…or 3rd) QB in this draft.

I hear ya, would rather have had Watson. But Pace is da boss. Just showed his ass & balls bullfrog style to all

“Is a puzzlement.” -King Mongut of Siam (Yul Brynner, THE KING AND I).

  • I just hope the Bears fans are more patient than the Rams fans with Goff cuz as completely unprepared as Goff was for the NFL, Trub is even more behind.

Let’s hope Glennon does better than Kennum did

    • BearDown100393

      Week #2

    • Bender McLugh

Will it matter? I think not. Trubs will wait no matter what

      • chitownproud85

Agreed. Only way he sees it this year is if we get to week 12 or 13 and are in full muff cabbage mode and they think some real action snaps will be good for him.

        • Bender McLugh

Fine with that cause we shorted the defense with EVERY PICK AFTER. RIGHT???

          • Bender McLugh

            Hahaha shorted….

          • chitownproud85

            *sharted

          • Malice Halice

N WE WONDER Y NOBODY WANNA PLAY FOR US

      • If Glennon is another Keenum it WILL matter cuz the fans are gonna be clammoring for Trub, not Sanchize.

Fisher actually held out pretty long. The locals over here were calling for Goff almost immediately, and Fisher held out for as long as possible, basically until his job was really in jeopardy, but by then it was too late.

        Sound familiar?

        • Bender McLugh

Stop it with the Rams come on, I’m trying to keep my head up man

    • Big Mike

I like Trub, more than I did Goff. Same still applies, but hey we’re used to our first round draft choices not playing much in their first 2 years.

Unbelievable we’ve had a 7th and a 3rd in the span of three years and we’ve got jack shit. Or maybe we have a franchise QB and a valuable back up to trade.

Mike Glennon’s got to feel like he just took it in the ass.

      • Malice Halice

        for 16mil tho

      • I didn’t like Goff at all. He doesn’t seem like he has the temperament to me.

But I have some similar concerns with Trub – not necessarily temperament, but intelligence and intangibles.

Not to mention all the other technical stuff, like footwork, etc.

I said all along I think Trub has the most NFL tools of the QBs this class.

I guess we’re gonna find out if Birdcage can bring it out of him sooner or later.

        • Big Mike

So Pace went and got him. What I don’t get is if SF was so eager to trade, were they going to take trubiskie? That’s not being true to your board. Which is actually more desperate. I’m pissed about giving up next years 3rd. This year we had an extra 4th so no big deal.

          • My guess is that the Jets or Browns were bidding against the Bears.

It’s the only logical explanation I can come up with.

          • Big Mike

That is the first time I looked at it this way. Nice job. It wasn’t that the niners were going to take him, it’s the other teams we were bidding against to get him. Makes me feel a little bit better, right?

          • It’s the only LOGICAL explanation cuz the alternative is that Pace got trade raped.

      • Bender McLugh

No way. Glennon knew the score going in, mentoring unless he blows the doors off

  • BillW

OK – hanging in here until we see what happens before Cle at 12. I have midterms to grade but I’m too upset to trust myself. I might just flunk everyone.

    • BillW

If any of my students are on here and realize who I am – that was a joke. I don’t need to be written up on top of all this.

Damn, my pick after a trade down!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • MB30SD

    BAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA…, mafuckinghoms?!?!?

  • Captain Obvious

I don’t mind the Trubisky pick. Heck, I sorta like it.

Giving up the picks to move up doesn’t even really bug me.

Except it was moving up one fucking slot. So, by selling the farm for Trubisky, Pace is saying:

    1) Trubisky is too awesome to pass up
    2) He was dead convinced SF was going to take Trubisky
    3) None of the guys left (Thomas, Adams, etc.) were even close to Trubisky

Whether you like Trubisky or not, and no matter what criticisms you have of Thomas, Adams, Allen, Lattimore, Howard, etc., all of those 3 things above have to be true for this move/pick to not be a clusterfuck. And not a single one of those things are likely to be true.

    • willbest

Didn’t really sell the farm, but we could have used those 3rd rounders.

      • ButtonShoes

        And the 4th rounder.

        • willbest

meh 4th rounders are gambles. That 3rd was basically a 2nd rounder and it will be pretty high again next year

          • ButtonShoes

This team needs all the picks it can get. This basic fact somehow eludes Ryan Pace.

          • willbest

Pace went and fill the team with so many vets that there really isn’t a lot of space for rookies.

          • Irish Sweetness

            Howard was a 5th.

          • willbest

Yes sometimes people win the lottery.

      • Captain Obvious

Deep draft, those could be quality starters.

And/or they’re trade bait to move up.

      • AlbertInTucson

        Seems like a steep price.

        • willbest

They did the points analysis. Its “worth” about 400 points. We gave them 400 points worth of picks this year plus our 3rd next year, which can be worth between 100 and 200 points.

          • AlbertInTucson

            I am still befuddled.

      • BillW

No – the McCaskeys still have the farm. Just no one that knows how to work it.

    • Big Mike

Your logic is solid. But 1,2, and 3 must have looked true inside the Bears war room.

    • AlbertInTucson

I don’t think they thought SF wanted him. I think the Browns and Jets were trying to slide in and take him. I think Young Shanny is content to wait for Cousins to kiss off the Redskins after this season.

      • willbest

And he should. He is rebuilding anyway.

      • Captain Obvious

So SF was basically holding the Bears hostage, saying “give us more than the Jets will offer”?

The Bears were in a bidding war with the Jets?

I can buy that, though it seems a bit of a stretch. And at some point, a smart man walks away from the auction.

        • MB30SD

jets got the MUCH better end of the stick. the end I wanted for fuck sake.

          • willbest

We don’t really know that yet.

  • willbest

    Jay Cutler to Houston?

      I hope so.

      • willbest

They had been rumored to be interested in Mahomes. Do they get Watson.

  • AlbertInTucson

Now Watson can slam the Chefs.

    • MB30SD

jesus, poor kid. he’s gonna be the next tom brady?

  • BearDown100393

The ESPN firings went over better than this draft pick.
Hell, United kicking off a passenger and killing a giant rabbit was less of a big deal.

    • MB30SD

have you seen a giant rabbit… it’s cuteness massified!

  • chitownproud85

Would have taken Mahomes over Trubs. Or, let me rephrase. I would ahve been excited about a Mahomes pick. Again, Trubs feels boring and bad, and fuck that. whyyyyyyyyy

    • Bender McLugh

Because we didn’t also get Adams/Thomas. Desperation days has no friends

    • Nah.
Mahomes is gonna need a MAJOR overhaul.

If Arians can do it, he deserves a medal for that.

Birdcage doesn’t have nearly the coaching chops of Arians

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Hell if Arians can work with Mahomes he is the greatest coach ever considering the Chiefs drafted him.

  • FresnoBear88

That Mahomes bad footwork clip look a lot like Cutler throwing a pass!

    • Ososfan

He has PLENTY of years to learn from one of the best teachers out there.

      • That’s what they said about Cutler. 12 yrs later, he was still throwing it into triple coverage while backpeddling

        • Ososfan

Cutler started almost right away though, Mahomes can wait a couple of years.

          • That’s true, but old habits die hard.
And I think Palmer retires after this year, so basically, Mahomes has one yr to get rewired.

          • Ososfan

Wait, I thought Chiefs took Mahomes….

          • Oh, wait, you’re right.

But pretty much the same applies with Reid and Alex Smith, though Smith may last longer than a yr.

  • AlbertInTucson

Lattimore AND Allen fall to the Saints who need boTh.

  • MB30SD

honestly, pace HAS to be pulling a sunny weaver right here, right? HAS to???

Then we’ll all be so elated…. ahhhhhhhoooooohhhhhhhhhhh deeeeeuuuuummmm!!!!!

    RIGHT?!?!?!

Don’t get your hopes up. We are sharing this nightmare together.

Its not as insane as my initial reaction, but I still don’t like it.

      • MB30SD

yes it is. All that for one spot. please. absurd.

  • MB30SD

ok, pace. let’s weaver this shit!

    reeeeeady…. GO!

    • Bender McLugh

He is not your boyfriend, he will not buy us tonight

      • MB30SD

    • MB30SD

      my god

    • Ososfan

And the hits will KEEP coming…

    • ButtonShoes

Well, fuck. We really are the new Browns.

the continued destruction of everything your father worked so hard to make amazing?

      • willbest

        father

        • MB30SD

          that’s what I damn meant!

  • BillW

And here we are – the moment we’ve all been waiting for – I’m following online so it’s probably over already

  • MB30SD

    Texans just took the pick

    • jab

They’re taking the best qb in the draft.

      • willbest

        Jay Cutler?

        • Consider all the draft capital both the Bears AND the Texans gave up to NOT sign Cargo.

          • willbest

Pace spent $18 million dollars to pretend like he wasn’t going to draft a QB at #3 and then gave up more than what the Bears paid to acquire Brandon Marshall

          • BillW

When you put it that way – I think I need a beer.

          • Big Mike

If you see your QB of the future you do what you have to to get him

          • Irish Sweetness

And he saw the wrong one, Mike. That’s the worst thing.

          • Big Mike

I don’t know that. Pace didn’t think so. Pace said you stockpile QBs. They always bring value if they work out. Watson/Trubiscuit. Got it his new name will be triscuit.

      • Watson most likely

        • MB30SD

          has to be

  • leftcoast dave

Damn, that was the two trade jump!!!! Sell cheap out of the 3, sell dear on the second drop.

    SheeeeeeT.

  • BillW

OK – the clock has now started on Pace. Fair or not – true or not – the story will be that Cleveland played him; made him think they had a trade and then left him looking stupid. No one will doubt it even if it’s not true.

    • jab

Actually he got played by san Francisco.

      • BillW

That’s a given. I think he thought he had something going at the 12 from the Browns.

Well- mabye at 25? Or in the 6th round?

      • Big Mike

One thought is the Bears gave up what they did because there were 2-3 other teams bidding for the chance to take trub. Houston swapped first round picks and gave up next years pick to get Watson

        • BillW

So we just should have let them take him. Take a better player at another need and get the QB next year.

          • ButtonShoes

Darnold or Allen look like real deals. And with how I expect this upcoming season to turn out now, we might have a shot at one of them.

        • Irish Sweetness

If SF really wanted Trub (1) they would have drafted him (b) they likely would have drafted Watson next.

  • Bender McLugh

I think we’ve all lost a bit of perspective in this draft. The Browns do not actually shit the bed with their first pick. Bully for them

    • MB30SD

fuck the browns… WE ARE THE NEW BROWNS!

      • Bender McLugh

Does that need get Gordon’s weed hookup? WORTH IT

  • leftcoast dave

    Without a doubt

  • AlbertInTucson

    “Elementary, my dear Watson.”

  • SC Dave

Ya’ll know the FUCKING SKY HAS FALLEN!

  • leftcoast dave

Pace had his plan, and he stuck to it.

    I don’t like it, but I’m just a fan.

  • willbest

MB if we get Hooker at #36 will you forgive Pace?

    • That 2nd rounder becomes very important suddenly.

We need to find a way to get another 2nd.

Can we re-sign Cargo then trade him to the Jets b4 tmrw?

      • Irish Sweetness

To get that second we needed to trade down, and we still could have had Watson.

    • MB30SD

nope. you don’t trade away 3 picks to move up one spot for no reason, sf was never picking him.

The dude didn’t know what a fucking hard count is?!?!? 13 games!!?!?? Gunslinger without fundamentals?!!?!?!

Like fucking seriously?! Jesus, MAYBE if we wouldn’t have given away 3 picks for the dude, but this…. makes zero sense. ZERO!

      • Big Mike

Wasn’t SF that was the issue. It’s possible that every team that needed a QB was bidding to take trubiskie. Not defending this, but trying to sort it out. What’s interesting is how wrong all of the analysts were

        • MB30SD

cause they all thought pace would do something at least fucking sane… no one could have guessed he’d shit the bed this hard.

          fuck man.

          • willbest

He over paid by next year’s 3rd round pick going by the chart.

          • MB30SD

            by 150 points thayer said

          • willbest

            yeah a 3rd rounder!

          • MB30SD

            jes

          • Big Mike

And for a QB that’s what it takes especially if there is a bidding war

          • MB30SD

ok, but be damn sure you’re getting your currency worth.

Not some one year wonder, who really wasn’t even that. smfh

          • Big Mike

Can’t argue. Pace went all in. Got to hope he knows what he is doing

          • MB30SD

He didn’t know what a hard count was… We never talked to the kid Mike.

            We are the browns

          • Bender McLugh

            ed

          • Big Mike

I’m saying across the board not just Bears.

          • MB30SD

            that always happens though

        • Bender McLugh

Many analysts had Trubs as the #1 qb

      • Bender McLugh

You are awfully convinced SF want going to take him

        • MB30SD

I wish they had… sprinted up and saved pace from himself.

  • FresnoBear88

If we were going QB we should of just grabbed Watson and saved our other picks. I just do not see the Reason for the trade up! I’m fuckin lost over here!

    • chitownproud85

      yeap

  • ButtonShoes

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I wish we had Cleveland’s front office right now.

  • madscout12

This is why we fucking suck. 3 picks…gone. MT better be the freaking second coming.

Adams would have been there. Thomas probably would have been there. We have a year of Glennon and we sell the farm for this schmuck?

Christ, he better be Drew Brees. He better be Tom Brady. He better be Vadgers. Cause if he isn’t, Pace needs to be shown the door. He was a draft too early on this.

    • Cubsnlinux

Over reaction much? How many Bradys and Rodgers’ come in a generation?

  • AlbertInTucson

Allen still there. Cards just lost Calais Campbell.

    • The two guys I thought might fall due to medicals have fallen. Allen and Hooker.

      • Bender McLugh

Hooker in the 2nd?if Obi-Wan & peppers are not there

      • willbest

No mock had the run on offensive talent. There must not be a lot of difference between the #1 and #6 CB but a world of difference between the #1 and #6 WR

        • I mentioned earlier that teams will likely trade up for Oline and WR because the drop off for those is considered huge. Basically you got a 1st rounder or 4rth rounder. So that might have something to do with the run

Also said QB trade-up, simply cuz that’s nearly every draft.

  • BillW

It was good seeing you guys again. Glad to see you haven’t changed. I wish we had a team to care about but I’m sure we’ll all still watch and cheer them on this fall.

At this point – the only thing I want is to NOT find us all wishing we had Jay back.

    • FresnoBear88

I believe that can be a very likely situation!

    • Bender McLugh

Eyore you seem to need the Care Bear Stare. Go find it my brother.

    • leftcoast dave

My hope is that the front office thinks we are already better on D than we on this thread do.

  • leftcoast dave

    Question about Rueben Foster???

Clearly a BIGGGG problem and I still think it is heat seeking missile style and concussions more than the tude, not that they are not connected.

    • Bender McLugh

He’s there in the 2nd? Nab.

  • BerwynBomber

So Fat Andy went out and got Favre II or what he envisions as Favre II.

Could mean Alex Smith is available: this year or next.

    • AlbertInTucson

      Smith turns 33 this year.

      • BerwynBomber

Of course but I wonder if guys like Brady and Brees are moving out the age of when QBs fall off.

        • AlbertInTucson

He’s under contract for 2 more. He’s their bridge for Watson.

          • BerwynBomber

You mean Mahomes. Yeah, could be a bridge but wouldn’t be shocked if they’re open to moving him prior to that.

    • No thanks.

      • BerwynBomber

Well, I didn’t mean us, of course. Just that he’ll probably be out there. Who knows? Maybe it will give Lynch a means to negotiate against Snyder and/or Cousins when he goes after the latter.

    • Irish Sweetness

Formerly the worst QB in the NFL??

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

    Trubisky for the WIN!

  • leftcoast dave

Amen to that, Reddick first LB off the board.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Allen continues to fall.

  • You know Reddick is going to get like 10 sacks this yr in Zona

  • MB30SD

alright boys, I’m outty. Have a good night.

    Cheerio!

    • MB30SD

no not for good… even if I don’t watch a single game this year, I’ll still be around to grabazz with you cunts.

      • You won’t have to see Trub till week 12 when Fox is fired, Glennon is benched, and Fangio is interim!

        • Bender McLugh

          1 out of 3 ain’t bad

        • MB30SD

I’m out till then. I can’t take the buffoonery any more man. We’re the new browns… We really are

    • Irish Sweetness

Sorry you didn’t get Adams. Really sorry.

      • MB30SD

Thanks man, wasn’t even about Adams my maings. I just wanted one draft where my asshole didn’t drop to the floor in a staggering”WHAT IN THEE HOLY FUCK WAS THAT!??!!??!!” move… And once again the bears org delivered.

Solomon Thomas would have been fine, Adams would have been awesome, Howard, shit… I would have been ok with Watson and keep the treasurer trove of picks we just pissed down the drain at this point.

But we got fucked once again yesterday man. Just don’t do anything stupid and take your guy at 3… And keep all your picks.

The second I saw we traded down, I texted rabbit ‘fun’, we’re about to take trubinsky’.

Like gp, I’m out… I just can’t take how bad this org is any more

  • chitownproud85

When I wake up in the morning, I’ll be ready to pull for Trubs. Tonight? Dead eyes. My phone is basically just a conduit for every joke and form of “LOL” my friends and coworkers can muster. Basically the true Bears fan experience since Lovie was shown the door.

    • willbest

I am sure Trubisky will hold a mean clipboard the first 8 weeks of the season.

      • chitownproud85

Assuming the Giraffe lasts 8 weeks 🙂

      • leftcoast dave

Hopefully, he will not even see the field this year.

        • willbest

I don’t really want him there either. But I don’t want Fox back next year. But then you are bringing in a coach he is stuck with a QB?

      • Irish Sweetness

He’d better not start for two years.

        • willbest

F that. 12 weeks on the bench when we are officially eliminated put him out there to get live game experience.

          • Irish Sweetness

Why are we paying Mike Glennon 18M dollars??

          • willbest

            throwing darts

          • $18M dollar gold dipped darts

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

I am good with the Trubisky pic. We were 3-13 last year, with several cucks at QB. Pace made a bold move. Maybe they could have gotten him without the trade but Pace decided that is what he wanted. Maybe he ends up being a bust. Still got to take a shot.

    • willbest

We have the wrong coach for a new QB

      • Malice Halice

Unless trub is da new Rodgers

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

says who? with all the injuries and crappy QBs we still passed for over 4000 yards. and 1/3 of them was from Barkley.

        • willbest

Fox has never developed a QB

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

            never had to either.

          • Johnnywad

            I can’t stand this. Can’t stand it.

It’s such a cliche piece of garbage statement.

Name some HC’s that have “developed” a QB.

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

exactly. it’s a crap shoot anyway you look at it. Either they are going to be good or they are not. No one knows until they play.

          • Johnnywad

And what the fuck is the quarterbacks coach doing with his time while the HC is busy “developing” the QB?

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Our QB coach and OC got 4000+ yards out of a bunch of cucks last year.

          • willbest

Didn’t we lead the league in INTs?

          • Barkley and Cutler in about 10 games did, I believe so.

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

            nope Chargers did

          • Johnnywad

It’s all a bunch of bullshit. Bill Belichik is the best HC in the history of football. How many QB’s has he “developed”? (I hate the fucking term in the first place)

You could argue 1 at the most. Just 1. Even that’s a stretch. He won the Super Bowl right out of the gate. How much “development” occurred before that championship?

          • Trestman developed Gannon, according to Gannon.

          • willbest

Old dogs, new tricks? Idioms exist for a reason.

          • Johnnywad

In football, it’s usually because somebody with a microphone said it, and a bunch of brain dead fans ran with it.

      • Irish Sweetness

We have the wrong GM – let’s start with that.

        • Johnnywad

Let’s stop pretending we know things we don’t. If the kid turns into a 10 year starter, it was worth the extra ammo. We won’t know for a while.

          • Irish Sweetness

Still the wrong move. He was there anyway at 3. Pace got played.

          • Captain Obvious

            This. Pace got worked.

SF was probably shopping the pick and over-selling Pace on how interested the Jets were. Maybe the Jets were even in on it.

But in the end, Pace overpaid.

Though, to be fair, Trubisky was cheaper than Cutler. Trubisky was cheaper than Rick Fucking Mirer, too.

    • leftcoast dave

That was the story line. I did not agree, but that was the story line.

  • Captain Obvious

I don’t know. I think Cleveland might have Clevelanded themselves. No Trubisky, no Watson, no Mahomes.

They have no fucking QB. Myles Garrett ain’t gonna throw the rock.

    • willbest

They have downward trajectory still don’t they?

      • Malice Halice

        yea Cleveland tweeked

    • willbest

I think they also have 3 second round picks, and next year they now have 2 first and 2 seconds

      • Captain Obvious

The way the QBs are going, they’ll get maybe the 5th best QB in a weak class. Just what Cleveland needs.

They should just draft a guy whose name is “Just wait ’til next year!”

        • willbest

Pick up Peterman, put him behind Oz for a year. Draft one of the guys next year.

  • AlbertInTucson

O.J. Howard for Carson Wentz to throw to?

    • BPA vs CB need

      • Irish Sweetness

BPA ha, we drafted the 10th rated guy with pick 2. Jesus I can’t believe this.

You guys were calling a QB pick a reach at 3. It wasn’t.

        At 2 ??? Yes.

Holy Jebus. An entire draft, fucked, on the first pick.

    • willbest

They have a solid TE though he is a bit brittle. Then again that seems to be a thing with TEs

    • Bender McLugh

      Barnett a study stud.

      • SC Dave

Defensive ROY, Said it two months ago, and I’m sticking with it

        • Bender McLugh

          you did, I member

  • willbest

    Barnett to the Eagles.

  • There’s gonna be a SHIT LOAD of secondary players tmrw.

    • willbest

In that sense it looks like Pace made the right call to hold off on defensive talent.

      • ButtonShoes

Doesn’t mean anything if you can’t pick it.

    • willbest

Of course the problem tomorrow is we are going to be done 15 minutes in because we don’t have a 3rd or the ammunition to trade back up into the 3rd

  • ButtonShoes

‘Mitch Trubisky on Mitch/Mitchell: “You guys can call me whatever you want.”‘

Good. Then I’ll start referring to you as Pace’s 2017 draft bust.

    • BearDown100393

      Cade Grossman

  • Bender McLugh

OBi in the 2nd. Phone dying. Love you guys…. BEAR THE FUCK DOWN!

    At least it wasn’t Mahomes

    • Irish Sweetness

Keep it positive, yes. Obi makes us smile, and it wasn’t Mahomes.

  • willbest

Anybody buy a Glennon jersey on spec?

    • Malice Halice

      Helllnaw

  • AlbertInTucson

Penguins 2 Caps 2 midway thru the 3rd.

Think I’ll heat up some Pizza Rolls and see how it ends.

  • madscout12

I said below that I hate this pick, and I do. But I’m still buying Mitch’s jersey. Kid’s gotta be good or we’re sunk for a decade. So I’m buying that fucking jersey.

I had a Grossman jersey too. And Cutler. FML.

    • I had a Grossman jersey too. And Cutler.

Maybe DON’T buy a Mitch jersey. Maybe buy a Vadgers jersey

      #reverseJinx

      • madscout12

To be fair, that Grossman jersey was a cheap walmart one that I picked up before the superbowl in the hopes he would just hold on to the ball so Manning could fuck up in the playoffs like he always does. Didn’t happen and that thing was trash.

      • SC Dave

I had a Robbie Gould jersey. I win.

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

          who?

    • ButtonShoes

There’s no need to punish yourself like this. Just buy a Walter Payton jersey and be able to live with yourself.

      • madscout12

I’ve watched Bears games in the Fox and Cryptkeeper eras. It is inevitable.

  • Captain Obvious

“Combine the two trades, and the Texans traded the Browns two first-round picks, a second-round pick, a sixth-round pick and Brock Osweiler for DeShaun Watson and a fourth-round pick.”

And yet the Browns don’t have a QB worth shit on their roster, so what’s the fucking point of stockpiling draft picks?

Unless they’re going to sign Cutler…

    • madscout12

Well, we know Cutty needs a badass everything to work. So stockpile picks and get a badass everything. Except, ya know, Browns.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

it has been reported that they like Kessler

      • Irish Sweetness

        Kessler’s not bad.

  • Irish Sweetness

I got up early for this shit, And it’s over. And the draft .. .is essentially over, if you’re a Bears fan.

I’m not against picking Trubs, good luck to him – he was a Bears fan growing up, loves Sweetness – but FML there was no need to screw our draft, he just had to sit pat.

The first time I ever saw Pace, I thought, too young. He’s a child in a man’s world.

    This hurts.

    The child got played.

    • ButtonShoes

Trubisky tweeted this a little over two years ago: “Hell yeah, Go Packers”

Yeah…Peckers fans are having a field day with that one. Just imagine what happens if the Peckers end up clowning Trubisky. You will see that tweet plastered all over social media. He will never live that shit down.

  • leftcoast dave

Allen, Foster and Howard. Still sitting there.

    • Foster is going to fall to 2nd I think.

Arthritic shoulders don’t improve with wear, tear, age and mammoth Olinemen mauling at them

      • leftcoast dave

Foster will not remember where he is pick or who picked him.

  • Malice Halice

Can’t wait to see our WR face Ravens D. Lawd help us

  • Captain Obvious

So, is next year gonna be a good draft for WR? We’ll need someone for the kid to throw to.

    Someone who can catch.

    • Alshon should hit FA

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

      BRAVERMAN!!!!

    • Irish Sweetness

To play 4th receiver instead of Kevin? Our first three receivers .. .well, have we ever had 3 better?

  • willbest

    Colts got themselves a steal.

    • BearDown100393

      Gruden hates the pick.

      • willbest

        They had no secondary.

    • AlbertInTucson

      Who?

      • willbest

        Hooker

        • AlbertInTucson

Lord knows THEY need help on D.

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

they need more help on Oline. but I don’t know of any Oline guys this year.

  • willbest

Allen to the redskins. 4 years in purgatory.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

5 years. they will pick up the 5th year option.

      • AlbertInTucson

Unless his shoulders really ARE an issue.

        • BearDown100393

          Then they tag him.

    • Irish Sweetness

Their first pick was equally amazing. A small receiver.

  • willbest

Titans grabbing davis at #5 makes more sense. I forgot they had a 2nd pick in the first round.

  • Irish Sweetness

The Cutty cutting makes sense now. Pace is an idiot. He swaps Glennon for Cutty, and then fucks our entire draft.

He could have kept Cutty and signed Kaepernick for nothing. There’s your roster (with Shaw).

You draft whoever in round one, and keep your picks. Just wow.

    • ButtonShoes

The assumption there is that the Bears are run by semi-intelligent people. They are not.

    • madscout12

Fuck that. The Glennon signing is fine. You just don’t take a guy this early after doing it. There will be guys in the 3rd that are actual possibilities in the future, just like Mitch. Are they as good? No, but he’s not the second coming. And we need him to be. Or Glennon to play out of his mind.

    • AlbertInTucson

The McCaskeys would never let Pace sign Kap.

  • BearDown100393

    Giraffe don’t caaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrreeeeeeeeee.

    • willbest

His life is pretty good. Half the town hated the last guy and is all “anybody but him”. He comes in and people are like well fuck it, whatever. Gets $18 million, and now nobody fucking cares if he does anything positive because he is just keeping Trubisky’s seat warm.

  • Noooooo. I Adore Adoree!

Damn. Was hoping he’d fall to 2nd.

  • jab
    • willbest

      Why the internet is forever

    • BearDown100393

      Jay’s my QB.

    • SC Dave

      Unfathomable

    • ButtonShoes

Trubisky’s never going to live that one down unless he ends up becoming Aaron Rodgers 2.0.

      • willbest

I am sure he has said some less than ideal things in private too. You gotta realize that kids these days don’t get the luxury we did.

        • SC Dave

          Irrelevant

        • ButtonShoes

Imagine Trubisky blows it against the Peckers (hell, you probably won’t have to imagine it – I’m sure we’ll all be seeing it soon enough). They’ll necklace that tweet around his neck. He’ll never live it down, and neither will we. God I just hate all of this.

      • jab

I’d even settle for Alex Smith at this point.

  • FresnoBear88

Chicago Bears are the joke of the draft so far! facebook memes are alive and well!

    • BearDown100393

What would it take for a team to “better” Pacebot?

      • Irish Sweetness

Cleveland just did. Traded out of picking DeShaun Watson. Idiots. They could have had the best DL and QB in the draft. Unbelievable.

        • madscout12

I hate our pick, but Trubs is better than Watson. Watson will get murdered in the NFL or completely change his game. Cause every game will be like the national championship.

          • SC Dave

Save this one, Irish. Three years from now…

          • madscout12

Didn’t say he will be better. Said Trubs is better now. Watch the tape. Trubs has arm strength, throws accurate to all levels, can move a little, uses his eyes well. Watson has questionable arm strength, is not accurate to all levels, stares down his WR, is in an offense where it is pre-determined where he’ll throw, and running is the staple of his game. If he tries to run as he did in college, he’s dead. Watch the bama tape. Guy got murdered. And he’ll get murdered most games in the NFL if he tries it.

And he’ll probably be starting this year, so better change quick.

    • ButtonShoes

Of course we are! What else do you expect people to do when it comes to the new Browns? Mockery is all that is warranted.

  • Joecashflow

I see alot of pedigree as usual in 1st round. Ohio St., Alabama, etc. Pretty sure bets. North Carolina, 13 starts? Not so much. In fact, way the hell out there in Twilight Zone. Making it worse was moving up and giving up the farm. We need as many picks in the best position we have had in years…and we give ’em up. Tarheel? Roundball. Just ignorant.

    • BearDown100393

      NC > Abilene Christian

    • SC Dave

      Unfathomable

  • willbest

Couldn’t Pace just set ESPN autodraft up?

    • BearDown100393

Been on the fritz since selecting Kevin White.

  • So we essentially gave up what we did for Bmarsh for a possible franchise QB, right (plus a 4rth)?

I mentioned some time back the eternal debate

    avgQb>APdefender?

    Guess Pace answered that debate.

    • BerwynBomber

Go PB instead of AP. AP is rare as fuck, even for the most top ten guys.

  • Irish Sweetness

We’ll draft Alvin Kamara. That’s all I got.

    • Not. Gonna. Happen.

      NO HB, Irish.

      This aint’ 1984 my man

      • Malice Halice

We gettin Buddha Baker man I can see now

        • I would be thrilled with him.

          He’s a mighty mouse baller.

          • Malice Halice

Indeed he his. That film man

  • SC Dave

You know what the worst of all this is?

If somehow Pace is right, Ernie Accorsi is the genius.
If Pace flames the fuck out, Ernie Accorsi quietly moves on to “advise” the next losers.

    • Johnnywad

Nah. Who gives a fuck about Ernie Accorsi? That’s not the worst of all.

If Trubisky blows, that’s the worst of all. Aside from the wasted picks, it would also mean a reset of the rebuild clock.

I’m personally going to sit back and wait. I’m going to hope like hell that Pace is right. Anything else is just whining. Wh have no fucking way of knowing until we see the kid play ball. If he’s good, the extra picks are small peanuts.

      • SC Dave

Your assumption is that we needed to trade to get him. Which I believe is totally wrong.

        • Johnnywad

We have no way to know that.

      • ButtonShoes

HE WOULD’VE BEEN THERE AT 3! That is what makes this so especially grating.

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

          you don’t know that.

        • Johnnywad

Unknowable. The team in front of us is QB starved. Don’t make statements you can’t possibly know to be true.

          • SC Dave

So QB-starved they picked a DL

          • Johnnywad

The trade and subsequent pick likely could have changed their draft, no?

  • Malice Halice

Our D finna get HUMILIATED by da bucs!

  • Irish Sweetness

And the Bucs leap ahead of us by light years. OJ Howard at 19. Unreal.

    • BearDown100393

Crabs is going to like him.

    • willbest

      Surprised he fell

    • madscout12

I would have taken him at 3.

  • Damn. Bolles gone too.
Happy for him. Good on him.

    • BearDown100393

If I were drafted in the 1st round, I definitely want ESPN to announce to the world how my father kicked me out of the house.

      • willbest

Its important because… well I am sure its important.

    • Malice Halice

      His BM look scrumptious tho..

  • BerwynBomber

DET on the clock. Will they go for the RB from FSU?

    • Taco, Malik or Lamp my guess

      • BerwynBomber

Hooker was taken by IND. Taco maybe. Can’t see Lamp. They already spent a bundle on their OL in FA.

  • BearDown100393

Bolles insists his baby will remember tonight forever.
    Must be Baby Einstein.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

nope that kid is getting a forearm tattoo to remember.

      • Malice Halice

        Misspelled at that

  • ButtonShoes

Practically every single pick so far has been getting tons of praise. With one exception: ours.

    SIGH.

    • Malice Halice

      Sad

      • Johnnywad

        Unless the kid can play.

        • Joecashflow

You know what….nobody damn well knows if the kid can play and they gave up way to much the find out.

          • SC Dave

It feels like the Cutler fleecing we took from Denver

          • Malice Halice

It does but who knoes.it’s on giraffe neck for now so atleast we get 2 free throws

          • Joecashflow

            Zackly

          • BearDown100393

And look how that turned out.

          • Johnnywad

And if he goes to the Pro Bowl five times? Will you still be longing for those second and third round picks?

          • Joecashflow

“And if”. Don’t go to Las Vegas with that logic.

          • Johnnywad

Not interested in answering the question?

    • Johnnywad

Big fucking deal. How often are they right?

    • BerwynBomber

Nah, there have been some other reaches.

    • PPl booed McNabb too

  • SC Dave

So HBP, obviously way closer to 1350 than 650, eh?

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

      not sure what you mean?

      • SC Dave

Of course you don’t. The over-under on responses to this thread.

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

that wasn’t me that said that it was Will.

    • willbest

I said 650 because I figured Jeff would post a picture of Mitch and start a new thread.

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Jeff’s at a bar. you should have known better.

        • willbest

Considering his toot toots on twitter about Trubisky I would have thought the post would have been queued up

  • This will only make Foster angrier in the NFL.

    • BearDown100393

      Green Bay will draft him.

      • SC Dave

And he’ll end Trubisky’s career like Martin v MacMahon

        • BearDown100393

This. Except of course he injures Trubisky who was sitting on the bench.

      • BerwynBomber

GB needs CBs or Edge guys. Foster would be a surprise.

  • jab

If Kizer goes in the first round I won’t feel so bad about the Bears reach.

  • Why is Bigfoot at Chris Harris’ draft partay?

    M

    • BearDown100393

      Why not?

    • Johnnywad

He’s also wearing a Jack Links t shirt. Kid’s apparently already got a $ deal.

  • SC Dave

Earlier, I said the worst of all this is Accorsi walking free regardless.

But then I started thinking about Larry the Shill’s post tomorrow on Da Site…

    • Big Mike

      ??

      • SC Dave

Think of how horrible Larry Mayer’s spin on this tomorrow will be.

        • Big Mike

Didn’t the trib say the Bears had to go all in on a qb

          • Biggsy said that.

Said that he thinks Adams, Thomas or Allen are favored, but Biggsy couldn’t see Pace NOT drafting a QB this far into his tenure.

            Turns out Biggsy was right.

          • SC Dave

            Larry writes on Da Site… i,e, chicagobears.com

  • Malice Halice

We did better than the Jets n Browns so far Imo. No qb needy team filled the need. Except Texans. I’m happy for those fans. But trub ain’t that bad. I’m finna take some shots n watch Trub highlights n pray I get excited.

    • You’ll like what you see.
      He has the tools.

Only question is if he can take the next step.

      • SC Dave

But we did NOT have to give up choices for him.

        • Big Mike

I think we did. Other teams wanted trub. That’s why we sweetened the deal

          • Joecashflow

I hope that is the case. It’s the only logical one. I hope that’s what we hear in a few days. I just didn’t think with all the FA QB moves we did that QB was that much of a priority. We have so many holes and they were just sitting there on theach board and would have been in Rd 3 and 4 also, that we gave up.

        • Malice Halice

I agree. I mean is D.Watson that inconsistent to pass up? Real shit. I understand a accurate passer over a STAR with high-rank Receivers after u had Cutty for so long

        • Cubsnlinux

          And you know this how?

        • Irish Sweetness

And even then if sf picks him, you get Watson.

  • Cubsnlinux

Pace is the GM and he should have the conviction to pull the trigger. He bet his career on the pick and I applaud his guts. No matter what happens for all of us on this board our lives will continue as usual. Pace will have to live with his decision for the rest of his life. So any hyperbole from us fans is just that.

    • Big Mike

Once a GM is fired. They are done for life

      • Cubsnlinux

        Exactly.

      • willbest

They make more in a year than the average person does in their life though.

        • Big Mike

          Not the point

        • Cubsnlinux

And for good reason. There are only 32 GM jobs in the NFL and they aren’t randomly awarded through a lottery. These guys are the best of the best. For some gambles pay out and for most don’t. But they definitely put in a lot of hard work, sacrifice a lot than all of the armchair GMs.

          • willbest

I didn’t say he doesn’t deserve his comp. But the idea that he can never work again seems a bit nonsensical. They can go back to being underlings the way HC’s do. And even the successful GM’s lose their edge and get canned.

He basically won the game of life just by getting the job. There is no step up from where he is now.

          • BearDown100393

Except the Bears. They needed to hire someone to hire Pace. That is sort of… kind of…. random.

    • BearDown100393

      Pacebot infected with a virus.

    • ButtonShoes

That dumbass could’ve had the same guts if he’d just had the brains to PICK TRUBISKY AT 3. But apparently that was too much for his idiot brain to handle.

      • Big Mike

You don’t think the reason he traded up is because other teams were trying to move up and get Trubisky?

        • Johnnywad

          It’s pointless.

The bottom line is Pace decided Trubisky is the real deal. If you’re him, and you believe that, you have to get him.

          • Big Mike

            I agree

          • Cubsnlinux

            Amen

        • Irish Sweetness

Probably the wrong QB too, which only
          time will tell.

      • Cubsnlinux

And you know for a fact that Trubisky would have been available at #3? Again, if as a GM you want someone so bad to bet your career on, you don’t leave things to chance. This is a big bold move and Pace wasn’t gunning to play it safe and appease Johnny know it alls.

    • I said that Pace has gotten bolder in his drafts (and that’s why I gave him a 35% chance at QB)

White was actually a safe consensus pick at the time.
To move up for Floyd took some chutzpah.
To give up that much for Trub while paying Glennon $18M took major titanium balls.

    • SC Dave

You must not be a fan. And considering you’re handle, it seems clear.

  • SC Dave

According to Trubisky, “we didn’t have much discussions (sic)” with the Bears. *sigh*

      • SC Dave

So fine, don’t believe the guy that was there. Typical of the way you think.

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

what was the question asked of him?

      • SC Dave

        From the Trib…

“The all-in move stunned even Trubisky, who said his only
visit with the Bears was a brief workout in March. After that, he noted,
he never heard from the team again. Not even before NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced his name from the stage in Philadelphia.

“I didn’t see that coming at all,” Trubisky said. “I was surprised.”

        • SC Dave

          Same article:

“At the Senior Bowl in January, Pace emphasized how he valued experience as he evaluates college quarterbacks. He also said on multiple occasions that he was seeking a leader who could elevate his entire program.

Thus, North Carolina’s 8-5 overall record last season and a finish outside the AP Top 25 left many scratching their heads on parts of the checklist Pace stressed.”

To say nothing about a mere 13 starts.

  • BerwynBomber

So we’re carrying three QBs this year? Or did we pay Sanchize a couple of million just to visit Halas?

    • SC Dave

And when Shaw starts for us… ?

      • BearDown100393

        Giraffe is backing up Shaw.

Coughlin remembers the NFL before the forward pass.

    • Big Mike

Ugh. Months now of listening to how we got fleeced. Whether it’s true or not.

      • SC Dave

        And worse, it’s exactly true.

        • Big Mike

Well like ever pick, it all depends on how the kid plays

          • SC Dave

The point is all we had to do is wait and then pick him.

          • Big Mike

I would argue there was competition to get him.

          • Irish Sweetness

Sitting pat was going to get us a qb either way.

          • Big Mike

Didn’t want one of the other. These QBs are night and day different. Pocket passer with mobility, vs a guy who runs and can pass from the pocket. I like both styles, but the Bears have one style in mind with their offense. It’s a huge difference.

    • Tortured Bear fan

I blame Irish for anything in case Trubisky flatters.

      • SC Dave

        Falters, mayhaps?

  • SC Dave

“There was no [phone] call,” Trubisky told ESPN’s Suzy Kolber. “I didn’t
even think I was going to get picked until the commissioner said my
name. It just came down. It’s a dream come true. It’s as surreal as it
    gets.”

Cannot argue with that last sentence to be sure.

    For a one-year starter…. smh

    • BearDown100393

The Bears will issue him either #6 or #8.

    • Joecashflow

Let’s see, they got what 4 months to figure this out and they don’t even call the kid? Class organization. Incredible.

      • Cubsnlinux

        Yes, the horror!

      • Johnnywad

You act as though these players are getting calls before Roger announces their name.

        • Joecashflow

“Pace: Welcome to Chicago, Mitch. Sorry I can’t build a team around you because I gave up too much to move up for you, but welcome aboard.”

    • Big Mike

Like his source is guaranteed to be reliable. The “sources” don’t have a clue and/or are lying

    • willbest

Somebody plugged into the 49ers? So the 9ers GM leaked information showing how awesome he is at negotiating he is. Well that is a theme for 2017.

      • ButtonShoes

Lynch fleeced 3 extra picks from the Bears AND got the player he wanted. So yeah, so far, he’s pretty awesome at negotiating.

        • Malice Halice

Fuck yea. But they still ain’t got a qb

          • ButtonShoes

If they continue to be shitty, next year they might.

          • Malice Halice

Yea, but we gettin 1 of the top 3 picks 4sho tho. 3-13 again

          • ButtonShoes

          • Malice Halice

            Yea he’s just matter now

        • willbest

That only works out if the Browns or Jets weren’t interested in trading up. And the Browns were linked to trading up having contacted some 8 teams. Its all smoke and mirrors bullshit unless you are holding Lynch’s phone with all the texts, emails, and call logs.

          • I can almost guarantee both the Jets and Browns, and possibly the Chiefs, were offering 9ers picks for Trub.

GMs can’t call other GMs and bullshit to that extent cuz word will leak around the league, and no other GM will ever trust Lynch again during drafts going forward.

now, did Lynch exaggerate how many teams or the exact offer? Maybe.

            But that’s his job.

Thus far Pace has been a rather shrewd observer of the draft and FA market.

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

plausible scenario. Pace received calls from teams about trading up to get Trubisky. Worried that they make an offer to SF he one ups them. If you are SF you can say anything you want about how great of negotiator you are just to make yourself look good.

    • willbest

Its all plausible. That is the beauty of it. We get to pick whatever narrative confirms our emotional state.

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

  • leftcoast dave

Ok, Pace has a date with his mother-in-law tomorrow night so he is going to give up the rest of our draft picks to trade up for best long snapper available and we can all take the rest of the weekend off.

    Does that work for everybody?

  • 505Bears

So lil Trubby Huxtable has to start this year, yes?

  • Ron Swanson’s Mustache

If Trubisky is a franchise QB it’s a great trade. If not, it’s awful. There’s no in-between.

But anyone who’s confident what was or was not being offered to SF for #2 is full of shit.

I didn’t like the trade but I respect the conviction.

    • willbest

Its hard to square the trade with paying Glennon. One or the other makes sense to me. Both…

      • Ron Swanson’s Mustache

It’s very easy to square it. Glennon is being paid for one year. That’s it.

        • willbest

You could pay Cutler, Hoyer, Sanchez, McCown, Kaep, etc. for 1 year.

          • Malice Halice

Oh kaep! We should’ve got him

          • Irish Sweetness

We should have. Great stats, a victim of the freedom of speech.

Cutty + Kap. Draft a tackle, build the defense.

            Kap + Glennon.

            Takes your pick.

          • Ron Swanson’s Mustache

            No.

          • Ron Swanson’s Mustache

What’s the point. We know they all suck. At least Glennon has some upside. It’s just money.

That had nothing to do with the pick and rightfully so.

          • willbest

We could have used that money to overpay Gilmore or Bouye who would be part of the franchises future

          • Ron Swanson’s Mustache

Gilmore was never coming here with the Pats offer. We didn’t get in on Bouye until Gilmore didn’t work out. And there was still plenty of cap room. The Glennon deal didn’t prohibit the team from doing anything.

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

better quit using common sense around here.

          • Ron Swanson’s Mustache

            Sorry.

      • 505Bears

Glennon is moving to the slot. With that neck he can use it like a periscope to see over shorter slot corners

  • willbest

Is TJ Watt really first round material or is this a total Kyle Long move?

    • Cormonster

He was really good last year and he has a really high motor like his brother, but it was his only year starting. He disrupts a lot of plays that don’t show up in the stats. He was about as good as JJ was his first year starting as a sophomore.

TJ made two plays last year that really stood out to me. One was a pick six where he jumped up to knock down a pass, but instead intercepted it. The other was a 4th and one play against LSU where he stood up Fournette in the hole by himself and stopped him from getting the 1st down.

  • Derek Price

Sitting here in Sydney, Pace has seriously bet his future on this pick. While it is impossible to know what was out there for th No.2 pick, the price seems seriously steep, also looks like Pace as GM got played big time by the 49ers. No other thought is possible given the price paid to move 1 friggin spot, oh well support for the Bears continues, but serous issues with the front office and ownership doesn’t go away

    • Irish Sweetness

And it’s not even like he got the right guy. We’ll see.

        • Malice Halice

Yea that’s y we got him. Use him for more film against the nfcn defense.

  • Pace quite literally bets his career on Trubisky. I love it. Don’t know if he’ll pan out or not (I would have preferred Watson), but at least he’s trying.

I looked this up: 10 of last 11 drafts have seen top QB drafted within top 3. The full list: Goff, Winston, Bortles, Luck, Cam, Bradford, Stafford, Ryan, Russell, Young.

That’s 5 hits and 5 busts (assuming Goff and Bortles bust). So roughly a 50% chance of hitting. Add in a smaller chance (maybe 10-20%) Glennon works out, and Pace has spent about $25M in cap space and 4 draft picks to go from a 0% chance of having your QB on the roster to a 60-70% chance.

    I’m ok with that.

    • Irish Sweetness

      Uber balls, indeed.

    • leftcoast dave

Not what I would have done, but hey, that’s why they pay him and not me.

      • Irish Sweetness

They pay him to trade up and pick the wrong QB?

        • Ron Swanson’s Mustache

And if it was the right QB?

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

no offence, but you are the last person I would listen too when it comes to QBs. ie your love of Fales and Shaw.

    • Joecashflow

Haha, don’t think the math works out that way. If you have 2 QBS with a 50% chance of working out, you have a net 50% chance still, not 100%.

      • you only need 1 to pan out.

If both have a 50% chance, then 25% both do, 50% one does, 25% neither.

So in my hypothetical here it’s maybe some fuzzy math on my part, but the point is that they now have an actual chance to have an actual QB. Based on history, probably greater than 50% between Trubisky (roughly 50%) and Glennon (adding a bit of insurance to that).

        • Joecashflow

Yes but if the first one doesn’t pan out, your odds don’t get better. They start all over again and this time, using Gannon, you have at best 20% chance to find a starter.

          • if you start with assuming the 50% misses, then yes, your odds get worse.

But if you start wiht assuming both have a chance (different odds, but a chance), then cumulatively the odds of 1 out of the 2 hitting are better than if you had only one of them.

          • So if you assume whether or not each one pans out is independent from the other, here’s how the math works:

Let’s assume the 50% hit chance for Trubisky and 20% for Glennon (the Glennon number is basically pulled out of my ass, but whatever).

            Chance both pan out: 0.5 Trubisky x 0.2 Glennon = 10%
Chance only Trubisky pans out: 0.5 Trubisky x 0.8 Glennon dud = 40%
Chance only Glennon pans out: 0.2 Glennon x 0.5 Trubisky dud = 10%
Chance neither pans out: 0.5 Trubisky dud x 0.8 Glennon dud = 40%

So in that hypothetical, there’s a 60% chance at least one pans out and 40% neither does. That changes to 55/45 if you assume a 10% chance for Glennon. Thus having Glennon there to hedge your bets on Trubisky helps the odds a bit.

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Why does everyone think 3rd and 4th round picks are really worth that much? Go back and look at the history of the Bears 3rd/4th round picks and tell me we lost so much. They are luck of the draw picks nothing more.

    • the more you have, the more odds of getting useful players.

If you want to be a good team, you need to draft well. That means consistently getting 2-3 starters out of a draft, which means roughly 1/2 of your top 3-4 round picks need to hit.

    • willbest

Our 3rd round pick was 67. That is worth something.

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

yes it was worth moving up in the 1st round.

NOTHING is worth moving up 1 spot and giving away the farm to a team that CLEARLY wasn’t going to take who the Bears drafted….

1 SPOT!!! Being in 2nd place isn’t that much better than 3rd place…

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

a couple 3rd round picks is not anywhere near giving away the farm.

          • They basically invested 1/2 a draft in Trubisky. Much less risky than trades for RG3, Goff, and Wentz, which were all the most valuable picks from 2 drafts.

          • the fear was that the Browns and Jets were both heavily rumored to be interested in trading up for Trubisky. He was the consensus #1 QB in the draft, and those guys pretty much always go early.

Did Pace overpay and/or get suckered? Probably. Does it matter if Trubisky pans out? Not at all.

The cost of moving up (2 3rds and a 4th) was actually quite low compared to most recent QB trades (1-2 additional 1sts + 2 seconds + maybe a 3rd-4th round pick) because Bears were already at 3. Much cheaper than, say, moving up from the 6-10 range next year.

          • Ron Swanson’s Mustache

You do realize it is possible another team was trying to trade up, right!

I didn’t like the trade either.

          • burntorangenavyblue

This is supposed to be a continued rebuild year. You don’t give the farm away unless your team is pretty much set to win it all or go very deep and you havr minor holes to plug. You keep as many picks as possible to hopefully fill as many holes possible. Bears history proves they are terrible with plugging holes as well as ensuring players can become or stay healthy after an injury.

          • Ron Swanson’s Mustache

Not if you believe the guy you are trading for is a franchise QB. I don’t believe that but Pace clearly did.

    • ButtonShoes

Either draft picks are worth something or nothing. When you make a big stink about rebuilding through the draft, and then you burn through draft picks like they were nothing with little to show for it, I think it’s perfectly reasonable to get pissed off.

    • Joecashflow

No, go back and look at our first and second Rd picks …..there are hardly any left….and then see that the GM’S have been historically crap. Jury still out on Pace.

    • Irish Sweetness

That 3rd rounder could have gotten us a starting safety. And it’s next year’s third gone too, remember.

  • willbest

Saints take Ramczyk. Bummer if we were going to be all in on offense, I wanted to be all in.

    • Irish Sweetness

Told ya. They’ll go early. It was all about the trade-down for us. Got to accumulate them, not give em away.

      • willbest

I know you can point to Howard, but who was the last 5th rounder we drafted that wasn’t a JAG. And that is true for any teams. You can argue opportunity, but there is a reason why the bulk of the pro-bowlers show up in the first two rounds.

        • Irish Sweetness

And we should have IMO – two seconds and two thirds. That’s what a GM should be doing. You can clean up on starters having those picks.

Pace went the other way. Consider this. Trading down anywhere to twelve would have netted us those picks AND we could have snared Watson.

  • leftcoast dave

Da da da, dat’s all folks.

Now tomorrow we all hope for six trades down and . . .

    • ButtonShoes

Knowing Pace, he’ll trade his 2nd to move up one spot, and give up all the rest of the picks in this year’s draft, and throw in next year’s 2nd rounder just for the hell of it.

      • Ron Swanson’s Mustache

Yes, that is exactly what he has planned.

  • Irish Sweetness

Bucky just chose Bears as his worst pick.

“I just don’t see how the Bears got better today.”

    • willbest

We didn’t. Glennon and Sanchez are going to the season. We are carrying 3 QBs and Trubisky will spend the first 6 games inactive.

      • Irish Sweetness

Can we use that spot to bring back Terry Williams?

        (ducks)

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Get it straight its “Terry FUCKING Williams”!! Irish will get mad at …. oh wait.

    • Ron Swanson’s Mustache

      No shit? Brilliant analysis.

    • ButtonShoes

Yup. WalterFootball gave the Trubisky pick a Millen grade (the worst you can get, it seems):

      http://walterfootball.com/nfldraftgrades.php

      • Walter Football just re-graded last years draft and downgraded the Bears’ pick of Floyd from a B- to a C+, because apparently making 1st team All-rookie at an impact position is now a bad pick.

He’s a known anti-Bear guy, has been for forever.

    • Easy to pick on, but they didn’t have a QB and now they might. That’s what the NFL is all about.

      • Irish Sweetness

Not questioning the choice of a QB (though I’d have preferred watching Watson like you).

We pissed away picks that could have been starters. In two drafts.

  • Irish Sweetness

I can’t find Glennon’s tweet on the page with players welcoming the new draftees … gimme a second.

    • ButtonShoes

That’s because the rest of the Bears players are as dumbfounded as we are.

    #Bears gave up picks 3, 67, 111 and a third-rounder next year for the 2.

Wow. We poked next year’s draft too. Incredible.

If no safety in 2, then how about David Jones FS in the 5th? 6’3, 210.

We could draft Malik in 2. Jones in 5.

      Does it really matter?

Trubisky will spend a year learning on the sidelines, watching opposing offenses streak through the spot a safety should be.

    7:37 AM – 28 Apr 2017

    • if they don’t get a S in this draft I will be absolutely shocked. Likely coming in round 2. There are 4 guys left on the board that would be 1st rounders most years, it’s just that this S class is loaded. Why spend at #3 for a S who probably won’t even be the best one from this group?

A S in the top 5-especially in this loaded S draft and given Adam’s physical limitation and lack of playmaking ability-never made any sort of sense.

      • AlbertInTucson

You mean you’re not absolutely shocked, already, Professor?

        • I’m very surprised, because all the rumors said they weren’t going QB that high. But I’m thrilled. This was 100% the move I’ve been advocating for for months. Granted, I would have gambled on Watson instead, but they went all-in on a highly regarded QB. That’s your best chance for success.

      • Irish Sweetness

Will he pass up Dalvin Cook?

        • Tortured Bear fan

Packers will pick him tomorrow early

        • Cook has a litany of off-field problems, something Pace has shied away from.

S is also a vastly bigger need than RB, where the Bears already have one of the best in the NFL. It doesn’t make sense to spend a 2nd round pick on a backup at a non-premium position.

    • burntorangenavyblue

And then when Pace gets canned, there goes another cycle of finding the “right coach” to fit Trubisky’s mold, thus limiting the Bears option of doing what is truly supposed to be best for the team.

      • willbest

Pace isn’t going anywhere until Trubisky has played 24 NFL games

        • burntorangenavyblue

Is that a conservative bet? I think that’s really stretching it because the Glennon situation leaves one to wonder how long he’ll be starting.

If Glennon is hurt, all bets are off because there’s no way Sanchez survives out there that long and Trubisky may be on the field before the final game of the 2017 season.

          • Irish Sweetness

            Injuries. True Dat.

All of these boys end up on the field too early.

Another reason we should have drafted Watson.

He’s more ready than Trubisky. And the bitch can run.

    • willbest

      Don’t believe in Demps/Amos?

      • Irish Sweetness

  • burntorangenavyblue

    On a serious note….

It is ridiculous to see how many people are going to become Raiders fans, not only because the Bears goofed up and their own goofed up history of running their organization, but because there are Vegas lovers who somehow, someway, think it is their sworn duty as Vegas-o-philes that they have to also be Raiders fans.

  • willbest

Glad I decided not to buy Bears tickets this year. No point when I don’t expect the HC, OC, DC, and QB to be here in 2018

  • Irish Sweetness

    In Pace we trusted.

So the value of the picks we traded is a full 2nd rounder in value. To move up one spot … unnecessarily.

His judgement is poor. You are now outside the circle of trust, Mr. Pace.

    “When in doubt, do nothing.”

    Sun Tzu, Art of War.

    • AlbertInTucson

      “Do no harm.”

      • AlbertInTucson

        But, too late for THAT.

    • Ron Swanson’s Mustache

I don’t like the trade but you do not know the move up wasn’t necessary.

      • AlbertInTucson

The trade up was necessary because _________

        • Ron Swanson’s Mustache

Because another team was trying the move up to 2 (I.E. Cleveland).

Maybe Pace was conned or maybe that was a possibility.

          • AlbertInTucson

            Ergo, we out-Clevelanded Cleveland?

            Ew.

          • Ron Swanson’s Mustache

Pace made a decision and did what he felt he needed to do to get that player. I don’t like it or agree but if he truly believes he is a franchise QB that is why the move was made.

          • Irish Sweetness

The man cut his leg off because it was sore. If he truly believed cutting it off would make it feel better, then that is what he should have done.

            Faultless logic there, son.

          • Irish Sweetness

Cleveland draft Garret, Pepper and Njoku.

          • Irish Sweetness

            MAYBE? HE WAS RAPED!!!

        • Tortured Bear fan

SF could trade the pick to Jets, KC or any who needs a QB.

          • Irish Sweetness

            And we draft Watson.

            Next.

          • Tortured Bear fan

            Perhaps, we´ll never know

          • willbest

Watson wasn’t even the best player on his team.

      • burntorangenavyblue

The move up was necessary because…..?

It was the final piece to win the NFC and reach the Superbowl?

        BZZZZ! NOPE!

        • Ron Swanson’s Mustache

          Seriously?

          • burntorangenavyblue

I’m not trying to be an ass, but Pace has been selling us the “rebuild” mantra for awhile now and getting this guy doesn’t help with that.

Yeah, teams may have been clamoring for the 2nd pick, but that does not help the Bears in any shape or form in the long haul, especially since they brought in two other qbs to stabilize the ship for the time being. Meanwhile, we could have gotten 1, 2 or maybe 3 instant starters on holes needing to be filled NOW.

          • Ron Swanson’s Mustache

If he is a franchise QB (huge if), it absolutely helps the team in the long run. That’s what this all comes down to.

          • burntorangenavyblue

This move should have been done when Pace and Fox came on board. The QB selection is as integral as the GM/H Coach hiring. With them sticking with Cutler in the first place, the organization shot themselves in the foot completely. It makes Pace/Fox to be men with a murky visionary plan now that they let Cutler go.

Pace has lost his footing with being able to sell any “vision” with “betting” on the franchise’s future drafting Trubisky because it should have been done two years ago.

          • Ron Swanson’s Mustache

            That’s complete hindsight bullshit.

          • Irish Sweetness

But we gave up a second round pick for NOTHING!!!!!!

      • Irish Sweetness

It wasn’t necessary if I’m the GM. I’d draft Watson.

I was getting my man by doing nothing. I was getting Trubisky by doing nothing.

Here’s the thing : if SF wanted a QB they would have stayed put.

  • AlbertInTucson

The NFL Draft has become a spectacle.

Fittingly, I believe the Bears made a spectacle of themselves this evening.

  • AlbertInTucson

So, how good does Mitchell Trubisky have to be to justify that trade?

    • CanadaBear

If he’s top 15 I’d be OK with it. Not sure how long it will be before he starts. If Glennon doesn’t shit the bed Trub might get a redshirt year.

      • AlbertInTucson

        Top 15?

        SMH.

        Wasn’t Cutler top 15?

        • CanadaBear

A little below that. Top 10 seems a little optimistic at this point.

    • Irish Sweetness

A second rounder basically, plus our #3. That’s huge. Considering it was not required to draft a QB.

SF go Trubs? You go Watson or Thomas.

      • The same Watson who was so good that the Jets passed on him and he fell to #12?

You may believe in Watson, but obviously Pace (and a lot of other top 10 teams) did not. |

What do you see in Watson that is lacking in Trub?

        • Irish Sweetness

          The Jets know quarterbacks.

Watson’s ratings were excellent. QB ratings all over 150. How does an average dude do that?

He’s played as a starter for 3 years and has a high winning percentage. What did he lose .. 3 games?

    • willbest

He has to be the best QB in this draft based on his 2019 performance

    • BerwynBomber

Basically as good as Cutler, which to say an average NFL starter. If he is that he’ll be neither franchise nor bust. And it will be viewed somewhat as the Cutler/DEN trade is viewed today: as justifiable.

BUT if that is what Trubisky is hopefully we don’t have an Emery who decides to make him one of the highest paid QBs in the league after four or five years and thereby saddles us with him for eight or nine. You know, as happened with Cutler.

      • SC Dave

Cutler cost us a lot more than Trubisky did.

  • All-in-all, I’m not THAT upset. I told MB to prepare his anus for a QB, and that’s exactly what happened.

Raise your hand if you predicted Brady, Warner, Romo, Cousins, Dak, Wilson…

If so, then we all can bow down to your omnipotence cuz billion dollar industries didn’t see them becoming who they were (and those same experts proclaimed dudes like Cargo, Leaf, McCown, Purple Drank, etc were gonna take the NFL by storm).

Said it before, but predicting great QBs is like predicting the next Rembrandt or Mozart.

It’s more art/gamble than science, and Pace decided to roll twice.

Could we have waited 20 yrs to luck into a Dak? Maybe.
Could we have waited 40 yrs to suck for Luck Jr? Maybe.

But Pace saw his guy and went in for the kill.

Essentially giving up Bmarsh trade capital for the most important position in all of sports.

It’s not as if Trub is Kizer.

He’s got tools. Now we just gotta wait and see if we got Alec and not Billy Baldwin.

    • Irish Sweetness

He not might be Kizer … he might not be DeShaun Watson either. That’s my fear.

      • You could reverse that.

Watson doesn’t have the arm or accuracy of Trub
Kizer might not have his brain or intangibles (even his own coach said as much)

    • Irish Sweetness

Nobody’s pissing on Trubs, but Pace threw away a second round pick. That’s what he did.

      • BerwynBomber

A second round pick was involved? I thought the one slot move cost us two 3s and a fourth.

  • Irish Sweetness

Just watching the start of the draft now, mis-timed it this morning.

Solomon sure thought he was a Bear! They all did.

  • CanadaBear

I thought they would go QB but I thought it would be Watson. Trub is the only one that I saw play and he reminded me of Cutler. Hope he’s better than that.

    • Irish Sweetness

No QB has gone in the first round with as few starts since 2002.

I don’t know who that QB was – anyone?

      • AlbertInTucson

One that I heard about was before that.

        Akili Smith.

That does not make me feel better.

      • RenoBear

Cam Newton was pretty close… he had only about 300 pass attempts in college

      • AlbertInTucson

        I checked.

The 3 1st round QBs in 2002 were:

        David Carr

        Joey Harrington

        Patrick Ramsey

All 3 started more than one season in college.

    • AlbertInTucson

He only only threw 7 picks so he’ll have to throw more than that to truly be Cutleresque.

      • burntorangenavyblue

Throwing against college level DB lines =/= NFL DB lines….

I think that stat line is garbage as a comparison. Gives you false confidence or false fears

        • NC isn’t exactly a powerhouse, and Trub was under lots of duress with no NFL caliber weapons to help.

Trust me, I’m the LAST guy who wants Cutler redux, but being so inexperienced could be a plus if he sits.

That means he can be taught proper NFL habits.

Watson has a shit tone more experience, but all that might mean is that when the shit hits the fan, he’s reverting back to that college instinct to run (and get killed).

Mahomes has more experience, but that could just mean he reverts back to the habit of winging it, which in the NFL will get him killed and benched.

Gotta give the kid a chance first.

          • AlbertInTucson

Because the Bears have such a grand history of developing young quarterbacks.

          • How long did the Pats, Falcons, Saints, Hawks suck for b4 landing their QB? Looong time

          • AlbertInTucson

Brady was preceded by Bledsoe. Hasslebeck had a nice run prior to Wilson.
Face it: The Bears have one of the worst track records for developing QBs in modern football.

          • Irish Sweetness

Worse than the Saints? Take away Brees, whatcha got? Archie Manning?

          • AlbertInTucson

I say, yes. Worse than the Saints. Bree’s alone. Proves that, let alone Archie.

          • Irish Sweetness

            Atlanta had Mike Vick.

          • burntorangenavyblue

LOL, Bears LACK ANY PERSONNEL to be training or mentoring anybody off the bench, PERIOD. Ain’t gonna happen from that end

          • A. We don’t know that. Gase worked a minor miracle redeeming Cutler for 1 yr. His predecessor made Hoyer and Barkley look decent in spurts (both essentially 2nd and 3rd stringers). Now he has a rook with more talent than either Hoyer or Barkley, and less baggage and bad habits than Cutler.

            B. Even IF true, that doesn’t mean the Bears won’t bring in an OC/HC who can mold. What if McDaniels or Harbs comes to CHI? Or some other hot shot OC/HC? Never know. Trub sits and soaks in the experience of NFL training behind Glennon and Sanchize, then gets a “real” OC/HC – that doesn’t seem bad to me.

Unless you wanna say that the Bears will never have any hope in finding or developing a QB, in which case, why watch?

          • Irish Sweetness

Exactly. We have sucked for 30 years. Even our last SB team had a QB that sucked.

But sucking is what we do, so be it. Love your Bears!!!

          • Irish Sweetness

            A. Did Jay Cutler not redeem himself? I do not believe another human could control Jay. Jay turned the corner himself.

          • Turned the corner round El Paso all the way down to Cancun

          • willbest

Butch has an irrational relationship with Cutler where Cutler is either fallen or redeemed based on QBR. While Cutler’s game to game was erratic, his season to season PR hasn’t really changed.

      • Irish Sweetness

He had 8 rushing TDs, right?]

Mind you, Watson had 21 over the last two years.

Let’s see how many picks there are against far superior defenses, Al.

And now, a word from our bewildered sponsor…

Some folks found the move a mystery…

    On further pondering.

Ryan Pace was robbed, raped and beaten today.

Color it any way you like.

    That is all.

    • AlbertInTucson

      Wrong.

He consented to the first 2.

Third MAY be forthcoming if some Bear fans get hold of him.

    • If he had done that trade for Watson would you think the same?

      • AlbertInTucson

        Yes.

        • But for Pace it wasn’t.
Fans tend to believe these QBs were the same merely because they were graded closely by the mock drafters and “experts’.
Those are the same experts who were endlessly debating if Leaf or Manning was better.
And many thought, well, landing either will be the about thevsame regardless.”
          WRONG.
In Pace’s mind Trub was Manning, Watson Leaf.
Could be one is Ponder other Gabbert but no one could possibly know that as of tonight.

          • Irish Sweetness

Doesn’t mean Pace is right. His judgement is already heavily suspect.

But don’t tell me that if Watson has a stellar career that it just fell out of the sky. His achievement and numbers speak for themselves.

          • Cubsnlinux

No one is “Right” on Day-1. It takes a while and a lot of snaps.

          • Irish Sweetness

Exactly. We’ll see. They’ll both likely work out.

          • Big Mike

It does not mean he’s right. But he is a man of conviction. He knows what he wants. I never saw him buying into Watson. Just not the style of team the Bears are.

          • Big Mike

            great point.

          • Irish Sweetness

            Watson is Ryan Leaf?

            We’ll see. As always.

          • Big Mike

I’m hoping it’s Winston and Mariota. Both good. Just different guys

            Mike

      • Irish Sweetness

Ah. I’d have to think about that.

No, I’d sit there at 3 and make my pick. Trade-down, but not up. Make your team better.

Pace got fished in. He believed SF was going to pick Trubisky. They were never going to pick Trubisky by virtue of the fact they were trying to trade the pick away.

We would have been fine with either Watson or Trubs. SF can only draft one player at a time. We got hosed. Again.

        • But either u believe in ur guy or don’t.
If u truly believe Watson is Wilson like u said before, why gamble another team will trade up and steal him?

          • Irish Sweetness

Because I’m happy with the 2nd guy too.

There are two QBs .. SF can only pick one.

          • Big Mike

That’s a valid point Irish. But Pace doesn’t see them equally. It wasn’t even close for him I don’t think.

          • Irish Sweetness

            No, not from the presser.

        • Big Mike

Watson not as good a fit for the Bears maybe. Here’s the other side of the coin with Watson. He played in as close to a pro like environment as possible in the SEC. He’s been tutored, challenged and competed at the highest level of college football. Does he have any upside left? Trubisky has a ton of upside left.

I don’t know if I buy it, but this is a valid point. Pace is measuring what Trubisky looks like in a year vs what Watson looks like in a year.

          • Irish Sweetness

You assume Watson would not improve? Don’t all QBs who make it in the NFL improve? Took Elway and Cutler ten years.

I would argue Watson transitions faster and is always head (for the furst 3 or 4 years).

His experience can’t be leapfrogged by Trubisky, unless Trubisky – who didn’t know what a hard count was – is some kind of savant.

          • Big Mike

He will but if experience is the big knock on trub. It just follows he has more room to griw
            Mike

  • Irish Sweetness

    Chucky and Trubs.

We have accuracy, lots of intangibles, and a well brought-up kid, who needs coaching.

So, though costly, surprisingly, we have our guy.

What now for the defensive backfield?

    • Big Mike

Round 2. 36th pick of the draft. Almost like a first rounder. In this draft at this position it is a first round caliber guy. Can’t complain about “overdrafting” the position.

      • Irish Sweetness

Then we get no OT. We could get a safety in the 4th. Admittedly only the 6’3 factor motivates the pick.

        • Big Mike

No OT is fine. Not great. But we can get by

          Mike

  • BerwynBomber

I immediately objected to the notion, as posited by some DBBers, that the Glennon signing precluded us from drafting a QB in R1 this year.

Yet at the same time last night’s move makes me wonder if Glennon/Trub/Sanchez was the plan all along, or did Pace only recently fall in love with Trub.

    • Big Mike

Sanchez is bait/coach/ backup. Trub is a redshirt. I’m hoping he doesn’t see the field. Pace in his press conference was the same as always. Informative, calm, same themes. You have to improve at QB. Can’t move on or be good until you do. Trubisky is the best fit for the Bears.

      • Irish Sweetness

DeShaun can hand it off too. He’s more mobile. He has it in the bag.

        Time will tell.

        • Big Mike

Not a professional evaluator of QBs. However Trub shows a strong likelihood of being more accurate. His biggest knock was experience, which we will give him. Clearly Watson was the more exciting and accomplished college QB. But so was Johnny Manziel. There are always guys who peak in college.
I don’t know who the right QB was. I am just sharing what I think trying to look at the thought process behind the move
          Mike

  • Irish Sweetness

Pace on why he drafted Trubisky.

It sounds like he didn’t want Watson because he didn’t want a tuck-and-run QB, but a QB who was looking to get it downfield.

Gruden made the point that his accuracy means greater YAC.

    • ButtonShoes

Trubisky didn’t even know what a hard count was until Gruden told him what it was.

      • Scharfinator

Yeah, it depends if he’s too stupid to learn it, or if that just means he isn’t a day one starter.

I sure hope it is the latter.

      • Captain Obvious

Might just be terminology differences. I can’t imagine a guy playing football at any level not knowing what a hard count is — maybe he’s just used different terminology for it.

I remember Ditka talking once about a receiver and how the guy wasn’t a good route runner, so they always had him running jet routes. The interviewer was an experienced football guy, but had no idea what a jet route was. It was just a go route, in Ditka’s terminology.

        • Irish Sweetness

It was fairly damning – I went back and checked it, he didn’t. Then again, he has a season or two to learn what he doesn’t know, and he is a learner. He was running that NC offense – as in decided what play was called, pass-run etc.

          • Captain Obvious

Maybe, just maybe we go back to the old mold of sitting a rookie with a clipboard and letting him grow into the role rather than throwing him to the wolves. Would Rodgers have been as good as he is if he had started his rookie year?

I hope the coaches get this right. Trubisky has the tools. Can he be coached to succeed?

          • Big Mike

I say yes. In my book, the most potential for NFL success at the QB position.

  • Irish Sweetness

    TV.

    Anyone watching Fargo season 3?

Ewan McGregor plays both battling brothers. David Thewliss as the Lorne Malvo this season. He’s amazing as the bad guy.

And as the dust settles .. .Welcome to Chicago Mitchell Trubisky.

    • Big Mike

I am. It’s not getting into it like seasons past. Slow to develop it seems.

      • Irish Sweetness

I wonder if the UFO motif is continued this season.

The first thing that happened in episode 1 was a door sensor not detecting the woman – then we are told the sensor is working.

They love a bit of misdirection do the Coens.

        • Big Mike

yeah, that door thing keeps coming up, it’s going to be a part of a bigger story line.

          • Irish Sweetness

Or not! Like the UFOs …

        • Ron Swanson’s Mustache

Not how much the Coens have to do with the tv show. Noah Hawley is the driving force behind it.

  • Malice Halice

Pace is on to sumn. We can trade Glennon next year to either move back in da 1st, 2nd. Pace got safety nets set up. I woke up optimistic

    • Irish Sweetness

Carson Wentz was signed for 4 years and 26 million last year – drafted 2nd. Do we need to trade Glennon?

      We’ll need next year’s draft (already missing a third). I don’t see how we fix much with a 2nd and a 4th/5th.

Meanwhile, what odds on Kyle Shanahan and Lynch inviting Cutty to SF? They might take Glennon off us too. They’ve got a Jones for Bears’ QB.

      • Big Mike

What a night. We need to see what he does with those picks to round out the offseason evaluation of Pace. Even then, all that tells us is what he is looking for, not what he got. Like always there is the initial reaction, then the overnight reaction and then everyone looking for the insightful positive spin.

My optimist says, believes Pace. He wanted Trub, he had the stones to give up a lot of value to get him. Pace values draft picks, so we know it wasn’t something he did out of desparation. Leave that talk for the prognosticators, analysts and buffoons who yak.

This pick means Pace was intent on loading up at QB. We now have a plan and options at QB. Glennon gets a shot to do well. Trubinsky gets introduced to the NFL. In preseason, you can guarantee Trubinsky will be the 2nd coming of Joe Montana. Our less informed fan base will be screaming for the backup QB, like they always do. BTW, don’t be surprised if Sanchez starts out locked in as the 2. Best case Glennon plays well Trub moves up to backup, gets in a bit shows flashes of brilliance and the Bears have two starter quality QBs on the roster.

It’s going to be frustrating to watch all the guys we liked playing elsewhere and at least one of them is going to contend for ROY, while Trubinsky sits. But we’re used to our first round draft choices sitting out their first year.

        • SC Dave
          • Bender McLugh

            WHAT THE ****

            hahah

          • Bender McLugh

I am still laughing at that video

          • Big Mike

Of course that’s what some analysts, even most analysts will say. They are locked on to how this is a bad draft for QBs, the notion that trading down is the holy grail, trading up is horrible.

Maybe Pace screwed up. But he didn’t do it without knowing exactly what he was giving up. The analysts sit there looking for a move to criticize or praise. We made the big ball move.

So, I’m hoping and praying to GSH, that Pace shoves it in their faces and has nailed this pick.

          • Irish Sweetness

            Nailed the pick, quite possibly.

Screwed the pooch when he got fleeced by Lynch. Fleeced.

We’ll know, if there were suitors for the pick. If there were, he gets a cheer.

Was it even the right QB though …

        • Irish Sweetness

I don’t think many are unhappy it’s Trubisky.

It’s the second round pick (value-wise) that disappeared for no good reason.

As soon as Lynch is trying to sell me the 2nd pick I should put the phone down and sit tight. They didn’t want the QB.

          Why?

          Jay Cutler.

          BANG!

          • Big Mike

Last night it was discussed that the Bears gave up more value than the chart says by next year’s third rounder. If they had not given that up, would we still be eyeballing this?

Going all in for a QB at some point is a necessary evil. Fans want to delay it, because it costs picks, which are much more fun. You get more guys to evaluate, hope will contribute to the next season.

So, we’re eating veggies. No dessert this year.

          • Irish Sweetness

Giving up the 3rd from 2018 must have the SF front office giggling like boys.

We didn’t need to go all-in, Mike. We needed to do nothing.

That’s what the smart Generals do when they don’t know what to do (Sun Tzu).

Even if SF draft Trubisky at 2, you can :

            1. Trade-down. Watson is the only stud left. No partner? Draft Watson. Buy shirt.

            2. Draft Soloman Thomas, Fournette or Adams.

Do nothing was the action required.

          • Big Mike

I understand the position. But I’m not buying into any instant evaluation. Look at what we do know. Ryan Pace is a smart football man. He came to Halas Hall with a plan. He knew what he wanted to do. He liked Trubisky, over Watson. I’m also of the belief that so did a bunch of other teams. Because SF wasn’t taking him. If SF thought he was their QB, they wouldn’t have traded him. You don’t trade away from the QB you want, for any price. So there were other teams offering SF picks for Trubisky. Case Closed.

Now we don’t have to agree, but lets end the discussion that Pace got played.

          • Irish Sweetness

Why, Mike ? He DID get played.

Unless …. there was a bidding war, and they knew they would get Thomas, and an extra 3rd rounder.

Even so, Watson and Trubisky will both be good, probably.

At least Pace has his QB. Lynch has to sign Cutler now.

          • Big Mike

He didn’t Irish. This isn’t “Draft Day”. You just don’t agree with his move. You might be right, you might not be. But he didn’t get played. SF didn’t want Trubisky, somebody else did. If you want Trubisky as your future QB, you don’t trade him away for picks. If you think it was the price, because of some chart that treats QBs, LBs, TEs, Centers etc all the same, that’s misguided. What if we swapped picks and only gave up a 4th does that make you happy. If it does, then here’s what we “overpaid” by. I present a list of our last 10 years of 3rd round picks

            2016 – Bullard

            2015 – Grasu,

            2014 – Sutton

            2013 – no pick

            2012 – Brandon Hardin

            2011 – Chris Conte

            2010 – Major Wright

2009 – Jarron Gilbert AKA pool jumper and Juaquin Iglesias,

            2008 – Earl Bennett

2007 – Garret Wolfe and Michael Okwo.

Other than Bennett, the only time these guys had value to the Bears was the time between draft day and when the games started.

          • Irish Sweetness

If there was another offer on the table for the SF pick, then I will accept it, graciously, and applaud Ryan for going the extra. Howzat?

          • Big Mike

I’ll come across the multiple links I saw that had 3 teams bidding on him. In the meantime, here is some info on Trubisky

Scouting report from NFL.com: Trubiskyis a high-end quarterback prospect who possesses NFL size, a big arm and the ability to throw with accuracy from the pocket or on the move. Despite playing in a spread-based offense, he’s a full-field reader who does a very good job of getting an early read on the safeties before
crafting his course of action. Trubisky will have to become much more pocket aware and do a better job of recognizing and attacking blitzes to back NFL defensive coordinators off. He hasn’t put all the pieces together yet, but the puzzle is all right in front. Trubisky projects asa good starting quarterback with a high floor and the potential to be great

            Another..http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/04/26/will-trubisky-be-the-no-1-overall-pick/

          • Who was giggling more last year, Philly with Wentz, or Browns with all their picks?

        • Bender McLugh

Trubisky, Big Mike. Not sure if you are calling him Trubinsky on purpose

          • Big Mike

Typo.. I figured out his name last night. I like Triscuit for a nickname. Trubs.. not so much. Thanks for the tip.

          • Bender McLugh

            Triscuit?! hahahha nooooo lol

        • Bender McLugh

odd that he liked Trubs over Watson enough for all those picks. is he right?

          • Big Mike

If a QB doesn’t fit what you are looking for, its a pretty smart move. Watson and Trub are not the same QB, they may have similar success/failure in the NFL, but not only are their games different, so is their stage of development. If you think they are “even” or “close” now, the edge goes to Trubisky. He has way more room to grow. Watson is what Watson is. He’s had 3? years of leading a team in the AAA version of the NFL (SEC).

          • Irish Sweetness

Ah Mike, Watson has started for 3 years. He’s lost what, 3 games? And Mitch is more NFL-ready? Why can’t Watson grow?

            Mitch is 8-5. Total.

          • Big Mike

Topped out. That’s all I’m saying. College careers and records are largely over rated in terms of being a predictor of success in the NFL.

          • Big Mike

He’s closer to as good as he gets than Trubinsky, is what I’m saying.

          • Irish Sweetness

            Okay.

          • Sahr Gborie

I appreciate the insight Mike but 4 draft pick still have me on fire. You don’t take a 1st round QB at #2 just so they can sit. that’s for pick #20 and after.

          • Big Mike

Draft picks are fun. Fans love them. Getting your QB right is something you have to do. Pace did what he had to, to get his guy. What have our 3rd round picks produced going back 10 years? Bullard, Grasu, Sutton, didn’t have one in 2013, Brandon Hardin, Chris Conte, Major Wright, the pool jumper Jarron Gilbert and Juaquin Iglesias, Earl Bennett, Garret Wolfe and Michael Okwo.

          • Irish Sweetness

            We’ll sure find out.

He said in the presser he likes how Trubisky extends plays, always looking downfield … “not looking to tuck and run…”.

            A dig at Watson?

          • Bender McLugh

            must be

          • Big Mike

A comment on his philosophy. Fits with the style of offense. Not a dig. That’s not Pace’s style. But a comment that tells why he viewed them so differently.

          • Sahr Gborie

Watson and every other running QB not name R.Wilson

    • Sahr Gborie

who the hell would want that long neck turd?

      • Irish Sweetness

        Ryan Pace brah.

  • chitownproud85

Alrighty, I’m ready this morning. Lets go Trubs!

    Trubby? Sky? Hmm.

Also excited for Pace to select best remaining player in 2nd – should get us someone that can contribute right away.

    • Bender McLugh

      Obi please

      • Irish Sweetness

        Yah. Then … draft over.

        Malik McDowell or Obi.

        • Big Mike

          who is this OBI guy.

          • chitownproud85

I had to look him up. Safety from Uconn.

            http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/profiles/obi-melifonwu?id=2558189

          • Irish Sweetness

Obi Melifonwu .. .6’4 220lb free safety. Much maligned re his coverage (unfair), definitely a box safety, but who has the catch radius to take whole regions of the field out of play. Imagine him beside Floyd.

          • Bender McLugh

he’s a beast, which means we’ll trade up three spots & give up four more draft picks to get him.

        • Sahr Gborie

That dirt bag is going to trade back

          • Bender McLugh

that was my first thought as well. hope not.

          • Big Mike

Wait, do we want more picks, or not? I think we are fickle this morning. Trading back would be fine.

          • Bender McLugh

it very well could be, but if Obi is there they shouldn’t

          • Irish Sweetness

Yeah, Budda might be a baller, but he’s small.

          • Sahr Gborie

i put nothing past him anymore

          • Irish Sweetness

Not if we miss out on Obi / Budda / Dalvin Cook/ Mixon etc.

            There’s was a 6’3 CB somebody mentioned …? Akhello Witherspoon/Kevin King … both 6’3.

There’s that 6’3 safety David Jones we could get in the 4th. I don’t know anything about him, other than he’s big.

Fack, do we have a fourth?

          • Big Mike

I like all those guys. What if Pace can drop 3 slots, get one of them and add a pick? We’ll see. I’m all in on Pace. I’m an optimist. So whatever he does, I’m finding a way to see the positive. It’s our time. Things are going to start breaking our way.

          • Irish Sweetness

Shame both Bolles and Ramcyzyk are gone.

Anyone we should be looking at in 2, Mike?

Wrote the cheque for the mortgage, as our Sandra says, now we need to write one for the insurance.

And Sandra Bullock knows football. You can’t say she doesn’t. That boy ended up on the Ravens.

          • Big Mike

            Has to be a DB.

            Mike

          • I had a feeling neither would survive to 2nd.

Oline is thin so they got pushed up.

          • Sahr Gborie

you lose valuable players as you trade back.
            3&4 in 17 – deep defensively
            3 in 18 – 3rd & 4th round picks are starters

          • Big Mike

So when you trade up to take your QB of the future? I’m all about quality over quantity. The only reason quantity matters is you have more chances of getting it right. Or you are betting your guy is still there.

          • Irish Sweetness

This was a draft where you needed lots of sub-top-tier picks down to the third.

So be it. We have a guy.

          • Big Mike

That’s a very fair assessment. Then next year go QB or hope Glennon finds more than he’s shown in the past. But we flipped it. Could say pace is thinking he won’t have this kind of draft ammo again and trub is what he’s looking for
            Mike

          • chitownproud85

fickle this morning? this comments section runs on fickle.

          • Big Mike

            Extra fickle?

          • chitownproud85

            certainly seems that way.

          • Johnnywad

Didn’t we just spend the last six weeks hearing about how great it is to trade back and add value?

It turns out Chicago Bears fans just love to bitch.

Spent all last season, last 8 years in fact, bitching about the QB’s. Pace gets rid of all of them, brings in three new ones, and it’s off to the races. An old vet, a youngish starter with potential, and unknown early draft choice. Nope. Not good enough. We’ve already torn the FAs to shreds. Sharpen your knives for the kid. Let’s make it impossible for the kid to enjoy being a QB in Chicago before he even takes a fucking snap in camp.

          • Irish Sweetness

            Trade back from 3. Great.

Trade down from 36 when you only have a 4th and a 5th??

We need GOOD players. Higher probability we find them in the second, than having a bunch of 4ths. I would guess.

          • Irish Sweetness

            Jesus, don’t.

“Yeah, well I wanted more picks in the fourth round …”

          • There’s LOTS of talent left. Can trade back and pick up two starters instead of 1.

            Just scroll through the positions.

I would say at least 8-12 defenders who are in the same tier. Maybe more.

how are you excited? give me a triple shot of whatever you are on

      • chitownproud85

whats not to be excited about? highest drafted QB by the beloved ever, right? franchise altering move(better or worse, none of us can know for a few years) that nobody saw coming. whats not to be excited about? anyone trying to say they KNOW what this is/isnt is full of shit, and obviously as a fan ill be rooting for Trubby, not against him.

        • Bender McLugh

          BOOM!

        • Sahr Gborie

i knew nothing about it and want nothing to do with it. defense. defense. defense. if you take a QB in the 1st round inside the top 10 you expect him to start. plain and simple

        • Irish Sweetness

It’ll be a ride for sure. We didn’t need to screw two drafts though.

  • Captain Obvious

One way or the other, Trubisky is Pace’s legacy.

    Trubisky pans out, Pace survives.

    Trubisky busts, Pace gone.

    • Irish Sweetness

      Captain Obvious.

      • Scharfinator

        The name fits!

      • Captain Obvious

True story: I was in the pipeline for promotion when I separated. Oh, how they dangled that path. O4 (Major) to O5 (Lt. Colonel) in 2.5 years, they tell me. You’ve got a knack for staff work, they tell me. You’ll go far. Just re-up for 2 more years. I say, that’s funny, my math tells me if I re-up for 2 years and am fast-tracked to O5 in 2.5, then we’ll be having this same goddamn conversation in 2 years, with you dangling O6 in another however-many-years plus half.

Long story short, I could’ve been Major PainInTheAss, instead.

  • Captain Obvious

For some reason, when I see “Trubisky” I’m thinking either “Flubber” or maybe some awkward-acting frat kid from a 1980s movie (maybe I’m thinking “Flounder”).

What number is he gonna take? What would Cutler say if Trubisky takes #6?

    • Irish Sweetness

Is it Wheaton has his number 10? He’ll get that. If he wants the ball.

  • King of DBB

“Oh my how about that San Fran and Chicago trade. I have never been lucky enough to have one of those come my way. I should call Chicago more often.” -Tom Coughlin, Jags

  • Captain Obvious

Already tearing my hair out over the hand-wringers saying, “If Trubisky doesn’t perform, it will be the biggest bust in Bears history”

Umm, no. Cutler cost 2 1st-round picks and a (ho-hum) starting QB. Mirer cost 2 1st-round picks. Both Mirer and Cutler cost the organization millions in cap room, too; Trubisky’s rookie deal won’t impact the cap.

Not that I want Trubisky to bust, but if he does, it won’t hurt as bad as Mirer. It will mean bye-bye Pace, and thus another churning of front office and coaches, but even that’s less damaging than a decade of mediocrity (or worse).

Mitch Trubisky says his favorite player of all-time was Walter Payton and that’s based on a book he got in elementary school.

      • SC Dave

        Who fucking cares?

        • Sahr Gborie

          thank you

        • Johnnywad

So just to be clear. You bitch about Cutler because he’s a douche face asshole and doesn’t care about the team. Now you got a fresh face kid that’s done nothing wrong is actually a fan of the franchise’s greatest player and that evokes a dick response like that.

          WTF Dave?

          Anything make you happy?

          I don’t get it.

          • Sahr Gborie

what is this “fresh face kid” doing for us in September except holding up clipboard. we could have had defensive starters for the next 10yrs.

          • Johnnywad

And you know this how? Further, how many years did Aaron Rodgers hold a clipboard? What if he’s that good?

Maybe he sucks. We don’t know. You don’t know. I don’t know. Neither do you know if any of those defenders you’re going on about are ten year starters.

Everything is complete speculation at this point. How about a little excitement that at least our GM is trying to solve the QB problem.

          • Sahr Gborie

Mr. Cheese Head was pick #24. 13Game Clipboard Holder was pick #2 plus 3rd&4th and 2018 3rd

If he ends up as good as Mr Cheese Head then I am wrong. No harm no foul. If he is not the next coming of Mr Cheese Head we just wasted 4 pick that could have helped out defense(S.Thomas, J.Adams ect) or even offense(Watson, OJ. Howard, the WR from Clemson)

He solved the QB problem with an uncertainty. That in itself is an uncertainty.

          • Johnnywad

            They’re all uncertainties.

I give up. You go be miserable. And if he turns out to be good. I’ll be here to remind you how much you hated the pick.

And if he sucks. You’ll be super psyched. Because you were right. And you were right in advance. It will be awesome.

        • Irish Sweetness

          (sheepishly raises hand)

          Me.

It means his work ethic is based on a great work ethic, something I heard him say. If you model yourself after Walter in terms of work, you won’t go far wrong

He’ll be more prepared than anyone, he says. Combine that with accuracy (which can’t be taught) and coaching, with no pressure to start (doffs hat to the injury Gods) … and like Chucky said … he’ll be fine. Not great, but fine.

I like that he loves Walter. I don’t know who Jay loved, it was probably himself.

    • Sahr Gborie

      You and me both Cap.
      1. Fox will not be gone at the end of the season
      2. Loggins is not going anywhere anytime soon

      • willbest

        F that. Fox isn’t a winner

    • if Trubisky turns into a Jay Cutler-caliber player I’ll be thrilled (ideally less frequently injured though). Cutler was a solid QB in the NFL. Not a star, but solid. A guy good enough to win with if things break your way.

Obviously I would prefer he turns out better than Cutler, but turning into Cutler (an average starting QB for a decade) would not be a bad pick.

And can we please stop with the stupid cap arguments? There are plenty of QB contracts out there showing Cutler was paid the going rate.

      • Captain Obvious

My point was that Cutler was more expensive than Trubisky in terms of draft picks/trade cost, and in terms of contract. I never said Cutler’s contract was bad. I said that Trubisky’s is cheaper, and there’s no disincentive to cut bait with him because of dead money.

      • Sahr Gborie

you dont give up #3, a 3rd and 4th and a 3rd the next year for “a solid QB”

        • A solid QB is one of the 20 most valuable players in the entire NFL. So hell yes you do.

I’d rather have, say, Joe Flacco than JJ Watt, and it’s not a difficult decision. If Trubisky turns into Joe Flacco this was a home run.

To look at it another way, probably 80% of drafts produce at least one solid starting QB. Which means that, for probably 80% of drafts, the most valuable player drafted is a QB. Which makes them worth whatever the draft compensation was to get them.

Assuming it’s a solid QB. The risk is that you just gave all that up for a bust.

          • Irish Sweetness

Makes Lynch’s move still interesting – IFF Flacco is more valuable than Watt …

Lynch still has no QB (IMHO). He got Thomas, passed on Mitch.

He might save the day and sign Cutler though.

          • willbest

Lynch is going to get Cousins next year. Or Darnold or jimmy G. Lots more QB options next year and if you are a rookie GM a better chance to get it right. Keep in mind he doesn’t have his scouts in place, its not an ideal situation to make career defining moves

          • Irish Sweetness

Using Hoyer to dink and dunk with a top defense is probably acceptable to SHanahan.

          • Nah, Lynch is going for the whole “build the roster, then get your QB” approach.

Might add a developmental guy in the remainder of this draft, but his starter this year is Hoyer. Good enough to let you evaluate the rest of the roster fairly, bad enough to ensure you lose a lot of games this year and have another high pick next year. Which is exactly what SF wants.

          • This is what I’ve been trying to relay

            AvgQB>APdefender (or 3-4 JAGS)

This is how Goodell’s NFL is handicapped, at least according to Pace, and a few other GMs (look at what the Chiefs and Texans gave up to “reach” for mediocrity or worse at QB)

    • Irish Sweetness

True dat. It’s not like we did a Redskins on RGIII.

What burns is that we were already there. We’ve waited years and years for a pick that high.

He shit the bed. Was it a little squirt (Mitch works out), or are the sheets soaking brown? We’ll find out.

But he shit the bed, make no mistake. A second rounder to move up one spot for a guy that’s played 13 games. Versus DeShaun Watson … for free. That’s how it will be revisited.

    • willbest

It will be the biggest bust if these players go all 2011 where every non QB drafted makes a pro bowl with several all pros.

We will never know if Pace overpaid unless Lynch writes a tell all book.

The anger comes from people’s belief that we paid for Lexus when what we bought was a Toyota. Of course we don’t know what we bought yet. But the perception is there. And here is the thing. Pace felt so secure in his conviction that they barely talked to trubisky. Their QB dealings with kizer and Watson were more to make sure they weren’t Mitch.

  • willbest

On phone so can’t quote Jeff’s twat, but I have no idea how a presumptive #3 QB makes OTA and camp interesting. Of course we will all be interested in the 4th preseason game

    • BearDown100393

      That one belongs to Connor.
