• Sahr Gborie

First. It was nice knowing you Jay. The rebuild officially begins!!!

    • MB30SD

      Hahahaha… Yeah, three years ago

      • Zap Rowsdower (GP)

and three more years from here

        • MB30SD

          Feels like it

      • Sahr Gborie

He is the last of the worst decisions made by the previous regim

        • Irish Sweetness

We were ecstatic when we got Cutler, well, I was.

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

He was cheap tequila Irish. Nuttin left but the worm.

          • BerwynBomber

But that was four years prior to the Emery contract. Two different things.

          • Irish Sweetness

Ah, the second contract, okay …. but we were pretty happy when he arrived.

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

            That was years ago, Irish.

You still bump this song too?

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAp9BKosZXs

        • Sauron’s right eyeball

You can’t really blame the last regime for extending that contract. They were between a rock and a hard place on that one.

          • Zap Rowsdower (GP)

they were? Emery could have done a million things, instead he gave him the farm

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

I thought Sweaty Teddy made Emery keep him.

          • BerwynBomber

I can. Thought we should have franchised him at the time. Still think that. Second option was cutting him loose. We already seen four years of him in the orange and navy. We knew what we did and didn’t have.

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

Not according to Jeff and Yonny. All he needed was some more weapons. Snark..snark

          • Irish Sweetness

I believe that in 2015, he got the things he didn’t have. Although I am in a very small boat and will be sad to see him go.

        • BerwynBomber

Debatable. Trestman was a disaster but he was easier to move from.

Cutler sucked out one’s spirit by degrees.

          • MB30SD

Yo yo yo… Fuller is done. His jersey has HeDone on the back

  • MB30SD

    Dun duuun!!!!!

  • Shady

3rd rounder at best, right? Probably more like 4th or 5th.

    • Irish Sweetness

And if they trade him for that, it will be the single worst decision made by Pace. The pick doesn’t make your team better, and we have no QB.

      Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.

      • willbest

Cutler isn’t going to win us a playoff game in 2017. So why not get a mid rounder for him.

        • Irish Sweetness

We’re not going to any playoffs without Cutty IMO. He’s worth more to us as a player than any mid-round pick we’d get for him. Way more. He’s a top 10 QB.

          • willbest

We aren’t going to the playoffs next year. Not unless Stafford and Rodgers arms fall off.

      • Sauron’s right eyeball

Irish, weren’t you pining for McCown over Cutler 4 or 5 years ago?

        • Irish Sweetness

Not really. I think it was more like “shop Cutty while he’s worth something”, and McCown and Fitzy could be had cheap while you find the ‘franchise’ guy.

    • Sauron’s right eyeball

He’s a 1st to the right buyer Shady. C’mon now, make the tribe proud will ya?

      • AlbertInTucson

        A first?

        Evokes the response:

“Spit in one hand and wish in the other and see which one fills up first.”

        • Sauron’s right eyeball

          Ask and ye shall receive?

        • Sauron’s right eyeball

Hahaha. If Bradford garners a 1st every 2 years? I’m thinking Kyle Shanahan might bite for a first. You never know.

          • AlbertInTucson

I think even a as high as a 3rd is a pipe dream.

      • willbest

The right buyer would be Minny starting off 5-0 when Bradford goes down with an ACL. Its not week 5.

        • Sauron’s right eyeball

Yeah you’re right. I forgot, it’s the Pakistani’s that take the shirt off your back in a trade. My bad.

Edit: And their last name is usually Patel. He he

    • leftcoastdave

I saw somewhere SF was in line for a number of compensatory picks tbd. I personally would rather see him stay with Barkley and let Hoyer go.

    • MB30SD

      Well well well

    • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

      revisionist facts!

  • BuddhaJoe

Goddamn here we go. They’ll probably trade him for a 4th then draft a guy that turns out to be a scrub or blow a bunch of picks on Garrapolo. Such is the life of a Bear’s fan. Maybe we’ll get lucky and get Cousins but I kinda doubt it.

    • Sauron’s right eyeball

Sounds like you’ve been a fan for a while BJ.

      • BuddhaJoe

Long enough to know they can’t do shit about the QB position. I got pegged as a Cutler guy, when I just thought he was the only guy worth a damn since I’ve been watching. Although I’m only 34 so other than old VHS recordings of Jimmy Mac the best I saw was Erik fucking Kramer.

        • Sauron’s right eyeball

At this point, I’d be happy with Brian Griese.

          • BuddhaJoe

The pain, the pain. It burns.

          • BerwynBomber

An underrated bridge guy. Liked Kid Griese. Wasn’t surprised when a few retired veterans said they respected him more than any Bears QB in the last 20 years. Problem was he damn near shot by the time he got here.

        • Irish Sweetness

I wish I had my Tampa Bay and KC games from ’87 with me, then I could convert/upload them. They were comebacks to beat the band.

    • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

Bears would be LUCKY to get a 4rth in return.

These rumors aren’t just out there by accident.

  • CanadaBear

If the Bears put this out there they are desperate. If both parties agree to a trade Cutler will want new money from the other team. Doubt that works. Then he will be released.

    • Sauron’s right eyeball

Don’t forget he can be franchised next year if he doesn’t shit the bed.

      • CanadaBear

He’s under contract to the Bears until he isn’t.

  • willbest

“Yep. Float this. Hope you get one. If you don’t, he’s released.”

There is zero value to the Bears in releasing Cutler before the draft if they can’t find a trade partner.

    • Huge Bears Penis

i don’t think there is any value of releasing him before the 1st game of the season.

      • willbest

How does it work if he tears his ACL in training camp?

        • willbest

Outside of the substantial injury settlement I expect that involves, it would probably be in Pace’s interest to not become known as “that type of GM”. Its one thing to hang on to Cutler when you aren’t sure about your QB1 situation. Its another to know he won’t be QB1 yet bring him into camp to run the 2nd offense.

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

Pace can always say, “Well, we were using the Goff protocol, but [fill in the blank new QB] performed better than expected, so we had to let Cutler go later than we wanted”

          • Irish Sweetness

Ryan Gosling stars … in The Goff Protocol.

          • willbest

That presumes we draft Mahomes and don’t trade for G.

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

Could be a lot of QBs

Even Kizer who many consider the best QB in this draft can sit a year.

Could be Turbisky, Watson or Kaaya as well

There’s really no “day #1” QBs in this draft.

Last year the only knock on Wentz was his level of competition, not his NFL size or acumen (supposedly blew interviewers away with his playbook knowledge).

I give the Rams credit for actually sitting Goff for as long as they did.

Goff was def not ready. He looked like dogshit by most accounts in practice, and even worse in PS.

they just got the wrong bridge in Keenum.

          • willbest

They gave up a lot to get Goff. I tend to think they were trying to save themselves from their own embarrassment.

          • Irish Sweetness

This is why cutting Cutty is dumb. I could really only survive a Kizer/Trubisky drafting, but they both need time to develop. Why we would dump our best QB to get a 4th rounder I don’t know. Money’s an issue? Dump Alshon if dead weight is an issue. We can get his 4 TDs somewhere else, from someone who wants to play.

        • Huge Bears Penis

then they cut him. Pretty sure they won’t owe him anything, as nothing is guaranteed for injuries.

          • willbest

I have been reading and it seems unless Cutler’s contract states otherwise he can’t be cut if he is physically unable to play football. Which means if he tears his ACL in camp they will owe him 12.5 million

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

Bears will trade Cutler before training camp at latest for said reason.

Most likely, they’ll get rid of him earlier to do him a solid.

          • BerwynBomber

Yeah, I can’t see any calculated wait-for-Teddy-to-suffer-a-catastrophic-injury scenario. That seems a fan fantasy completely divorced from the intentions of camp and pre-season.

But holding onto him until at least the draft is completed is completely reasonable. Cutting him prior to that would seem dim.

          • Huge Bears Penis

If MB can have his wet dream fantasy of Hoyer playing, I can have a fantasy of getting something decent for Cutty, and who cares about the intentions of camp and pre-season.

          • Huge Bears Penis

            link?

          • willbest

I mean I am literally reading the CBA. Its Article 44

            https://nfllabor.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/collective-bargaining-agreement-2011-2020.pdf

“An “Injury Grievance” is a claim or complaint that, at the time a player’s NFL Player Contract or Practice Squad Player Contract was terminated by a Club, the player was physically unable to perform the services required of him by that contract because of an injury incurred in the performance of his services under that contract.”

And it goes on to set up the process of injury settlement.

I wouldn’t be able to determine for sure unless I well finished reading this monstrosity and looked at Cutler’s actual contract. But I do recall somebody who didn’t have any money owed tearing their ACL in camp and being placed on IR. It was only a couple million though. Not $12.5

Unrelated but I also saw the Jets are trying to weasel out of the $6 million they owe Revis this year.

          • Huge Bears Penis

thank you, that is what i was looking for.

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

It depends on the individual contract.

Isn’t that the hold up with Tyrod? If he’s deemed “inj” I think the Bills are on the hook.

I think the same happened with Kap, and why the 9ers ended up keeping him.

          • willbest

When the players show up at the facility for the start of the season. They are given a pre-season screening. If they are deemed healthy at that physical, and they disclosed all their medical issues from the off-season, and the team allows them to continue on to the pre-season that is when the injury settlement process kicks in if they are hurt in a football related activity.

A team could opt to cut somebody that doesn’t pass the physical and there is a limited recourse under the CBA for that. What the guaranteed for injury in Kaep and Tyrod contracts do is say you can’t cut us during any period we are deemed medically unable to play due to a football related injury. Now once they are medically healthy again they can then be cut.

Now if a player doesn’t have a triggering event, it offers very little protection. A groin tear heals in 12 weeks (hypothetically) and a player can then be cut. The problem with people like Kaep and Tyrod is their salary becomes guaranteed in march, not week 1 let most veterans.

    • Irish Sweetness

This, and only this. I don’t get fans that just want to see him gone or get cu. If we do either right now, we get jack shit for him. If you ride him into next season (with a vet and a draftee behind him) you get to bail a team out who loses their QB to injury, and whose first rounder you then steal.

Dumping him for bupkiss? I’m a little verklempt …..

      • Sauron’s right eyeball

What? You’ve got a sweaty vagina?

    • BerwynBomber

Not from a coaching perspective. This whole notion of duplicating an Eagles/Vikings Bradford scenario seems far-fetched. That only worked because it was NOT calculated. The Iggles thought Wentz would ride pine most of the year until Teddy went down. That situation fell in their lap.

Would seem highly unlikely the Bears would bring Cutler to camp and through the entire pre-season only to cut him if no team suffers a Bridgewater-like disaster in pre-season.

Basically, if you bring Cutler to camp and have him play thru the preseason he will be on the final 53.

Plus, wouldn’t they want Cutler’s money to come off the books prior to the start of the season? Like well in advance?

      • willbest

I am not proposing bringing Cutler into camp unless you intend for him to start for you. But I am suggesting that you don’t move on from Cutler until you have your plan in place. Bears have 70 million in cap so its unlikely they will need the cap space. They won’t need roster space with the 90 man limit.

They don’t know how the draft is going to go. What if they intend to draft Trubisky but somebody calls them up and offers them two 1sts, a 2nd and a fifth for him? Keep Cutler as your parachute.

        • BerwynBomber

The draft of course. Agreed. My bad as I was going off what I saw below and earlier threads.

Yes, can’t see them releasing him until mid-May. If releasing is what they ultimately do.

        • Irish Sweetness

Of course he would start for us – who-s better than Cutty? You ride him thru the season until some desperate team comes begging for a QB, then you rape them for it.

    • Cormonster

Hillary was like the Jay Cutler of politics. Lots of hype, name
recognition, and perceived big time skills. She was even given lots of
money for these skills. Even though she was a whiny bitch who was very
unlikable, people were willing to put up with that as long as she would
lead them to the promised land and ultimate victory. But every time she
got in the big game she made unforced errors and always ended up
shitting the bed. An unknown guy named Sanders came along (think
McCown) that really impressed the masses, but the powers that be would
have none of it and stayed with Hillary.

      The fans got tired of
this arrangement and demanded change, even if that meant going with a
relative unknown who is unproven in the big leagues. The fans said fuck
it , let’s just go with the unproven wild card while we rebuild.
There’s gonna be some bumps along the way, and it’s not gonna be pretty,
but it’s better than seeing the same shit show over and over again.
The fans figured that maybe in the long run this will work out and lead
to a better, healthier organization. The inept coaching staff and
management finally reluctantly agreed (Republican establishment) and
decided to start Trump at the most important position on the team.

          • willbest

I don’t think so. Hillary Clinton is Tim Hasselbeck. You know somebody that thought he was an NFL QB because somebody in the family was.

            = “Cuntler” face

And of the two which is more offensive?

I’m sure Waffle will love Corm comparing Cutler to Hillary lol
