can you explain? Either he has it or he doesn’t. I don’t see how he can be ruined. I can only think of one rookie that was probably “ruined” by starting, and that was Carr who got shell shocked by all the times he got sacked. The others that bombed out because they were not good enough.

      • DaBearsBlog

Great QBs don’t get ruined. Crap QBs get revealed.

        • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

Agreed, nobody remembers that Carr got better and better every year. He was just overhyped and played on a shitty expansion team.
He just wasn’t as great of a prospect as they thought…and he didn’t get a lot of help either.

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

          EXACTLY!

        • BerwynBomber

That’s my view too. I can’t believe Carr was destined for greatness. Plenty of HoF QBs took a beating early in their careers. They persevered. Carr didn’t.

At best he was a below average starter. At best. The most forgiving view of him possible.

        • So when you were blaming Webb, Hester, Maammaula, Martz, Lovie. Kellen Davis, for Cutler’s suckage, you were wrong?

Culter was just inherently mediocre, and all those years of you defending him were foolish?

Cutler should’ve pulled himself up from his bootstraps and become a great QB in spite of getting sacked 8 times in one half

Is that the line of logic here?

Or can we admit that surrounding cast and circumstance play pivotal roles in determining success, and that maybe some Bear fans want to see the team play real games to gauge the team’s talent level b4 rolling out the rook

          #TheFlipSide

          • BerwynBomber

Well, this is NOT a contradiction for moi. I have always thought Cutty was a talented, turnover-prone tease who ultimately was competently average — a 12-20 rated starter depending on the year. The excuses had their place but they were also waaaaaaayyy overdone.

Btw, I’m also fine if we start Glennon a few games to see what we have. I just never bought the David Carr would have been great had he sat or Rodgers would not be Rodgers if he started as a rookie arguments.

          • I understand your stand even though I disagree with it. You’ve been consistent when it comes to Cutler at least.

But a fan can’t defend him (or ANY QB) for YEARS by arguing the team didn’t provide him with enough (fill in the blank) then turn around and say great QBs emerge regardless.

            As Spock would say, that’s…illogical.

Shit, I’m no Cutler apologist, but even I recognize that when a QB has Webb at LT, taking 7 step drops and throwing to Hester probably isn’t the formula for success regardless of “greatness”.

          • SC Dave

THIS, in every way. But wouldn’t the conclusion be that a “crap” QB “was revealed”?

          • Yup. In which case Jeff was defending a crap QB for yrs while flogging anyone who disagreed, so maybe he shouldn’t be the oracle on QBs going forward, eh?

          • DaBearsBlog

Get over Jay fucking Cutler. My god.

          • TBC

            Ohhhh that’s rich, Jeff.

          • The irony!

          • I’m over him. TRUST me.

I liked Trub b4 the Bears drafted him.

Doesn’t mean there’s only one way for him to succeed.

          • Irish Sweetness

Why? How was it a smart thing to pay Glennon MORE than Cutty when he can do LESS than Cutty? We had a vet QB – worth a high pick THIS SEASON – who knew the offense. I’m not buying the whole Glennon-was-a-ruse so that Trubisky could be drafted. Just cutting Jay was a mistake.

Miami are the cursed team of the Bears. Imagine we got to the dance only to be denied by Cutty. Can’t live with that.

          • CanadaBear

FFS Irish did you default to that now that you can’t tell us how great Meredith is going to be this year?

          • Irish Sweetness

I had to replace him on about 30 teams. Chris Hogan!

          • leftcoastdave

            Culture change.

            It is that simple.

It’s about who runs the show.

            Same with AJ.

Da Bears needed a fresh start.

          • CanadaBear

Wow, Jeff, really? You banged the drum relentlessly for that guy.

          • King of DBB

            Seriously.

Now I expect him to tell us to get over Olin Kreutz.

          • Scharfinator

People don’t like to be reminded of their failures. Judgments or otherwise.

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

no the logic line is that one season is not going to ruin a QB. I have been a supporter of Cutler, he was a slightly above average when he had crap around him and he was slightly above average when he had weapons. But he was always a good enough QB to be a starter in the league. Crap QBs get exposed and end up out of the league or being perennial backups.

          • But to me, it’s not an “either/or” (great/crap) proposition.

The NFL QB is not broken into Brady/Leaf dichotomies.

The majority of QBs fall somewhere between, and THOSE QBs definitely NEED help. They need good Olines, OCs, receivers, etc.

(we don’t know WHAT we have yet in spite of crystal ball circle jerks)

            Cutler is case and point.

Jeff is right that GREAT QBs may persevere no matter what. Maybe Brady thrown into the Martz Bears becomes just as great.

But how many Bradys hit the NFL?

And Jeff is going to confer that status to Trub based on 13 college starts and some “meaningless” PS games?

It would be more prudent to assume Trub is in that “avg-good” range for now.

GP brought up Kant a couple thread backs.

He had an interesting philosophy on teaching:

Don’t worry about helping the great students or dumb students.

The great students help themselves; the dumb students are beyond help.

            Help the ones in between.

The thing is, if a teacher can help that in-between student, then that teacher can def HURT that in-between student just as easily by rushing him before he’s ready.

            That’s my take.

The thing that is most annoying is that Jeff seems to believe anyone who thinks Trub should sit a few games is insane as if every 1st RD QB who started his rookie yr became Wilson, Dak or Brady when MANY more flamed out.

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

My take is why wait. We all know there is a huge learning curve for QBs coming into the NFL. Wilson and Dak came in and thrived in systems that were beneficial to QBs, strong running games and quick passing, and limit the decisions they have to make. Sound familiar? It should because that’s what we have. The thing is Dak and Wilson were also given the opportunity play, and with that opportunity comes the opportunity to make mistakes, which they can and did learn from. Wilson is a Good not great QB. We don’t know what Dak is yet, but we know he can handle the situations he has been put in so far and learn from them. Also remember the Cowboys were not sold on Dak, they were trying to trade for QBs even into the first couple weeks of the season, and Jerry was hoping all the way through the season Romo might return.

I am not saying Trubs will thrive like Dak and Wilson, my guess he will have more mistakes just because of the system he came from. But why not give Trubs that opportunity? Why wait to see what he is about? Are any of us really expecting a deep playoff run this year? I know I am not. Let the kid go out and get through the growing pains that rookie QBs have. I have ZERO faith in Glennon, and to be honest he is not the future. Let’s find out what we have.

        • Johnnywad

Perhaps guys with a chance turn into crap due to circumstance and we never know it.

I know you will all miss me but I just can’t take it, I am going to find a dolphins site so I can jerk it to pictures of jay cutler. it is pretty sad but I just can’t accept the fact any bears fans have an opinion that differs from the front office and coaching staff. I can’t believe that everyone just doesn’t accept what the bears are doing. don’t you people know that the bears are one of the best run organizations for years and never make mistakes. its not the fans responsibility to ever question the decisions of this great organization.

on another note, I am also too stupid to realize that there are more writers than just Jeff that have posted articles on this site.

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Has the fan base been shell shocked by the past 30 years of poor QB play? Are you guys actually willing to accept a game manager as your QB? Last year a lot of fans were giddy little school girls when it came to Brian Fucking Hoyer. Fans were excited about his 300 yard games that he got with 4 yard passes at a time. Fans disregarded the fact that he only looked at half the field. Fans disregarded the fact he could not throw the ball accurately over 10 yards. Fans disregarded the fact that he sucked inside the red zone. But hey his stats were 300 yards and a couple TDs and few INTs, while we lost games. Is that what fans actually want? A game manager? A guy that can not put the team on his back and win games. Game managers rarely win Super Bowls. Many fans frequently say that GB is just Rodgers. Well, he wins games, and he has been kicking our ass for years. He makes plays. He is a playmaker. Every great QB is a playmaker. That is what the Bears should be looking for – a fucking PLAYMAKER! Why would anyone want to settle for Alex Smith or some poormans version of him? It does not make sense.

I was pissed when they signed Glennon, but it was at least a move, and it was really only a 1 year contract. Pace talked him up, so I thought maybe my opinion of him was wrong. But after the preseason games, Glennon proved my original opinion of him as correct, he is not very good. Fans will use the excuse that PS does not count and is worthless. However players that play the games really can’t hide the fact that they are not very good. Your eyes did not deceive you in the first 2 PS games. Everyone was questioning if Glennon was good. He is not. But still some fans saw one good drive in the 3rd game and convinced themselves that we should play the worthless bastard.

The Bears made a bold move when they drafted Trubs. They surprised everyone, and by everyone I mean press, insiders, other teams and fans. They saw something in this kid. It is apparent he progressed faster than they expected. From the little we have seen so far in PS he is a playmaker. Why hold him back? By not playing him we are only prolonging the decision making process to see if he is truly the franchise QB that our team desperately needs. I would personally like to find out sooner than later whether the kid can play. As fans we should be demanding a playmaker at QB not a game manager.

    • Scharfinator

I’m excited for Trub myself. Just sick of hearing the screaming to play or not play him.

    • SC Dave

“By not playing him we are only prolonging the decision making process to see if he is truly the franchise QB that our team desperately needs.”

I don’t understand this, unless you are advocating the Bears get another QB this season, or next. I don’t see what the rush is.

Given that Trubisky shows great promise, wouldn’t it make at least a modicum of sense to see what the oline looks like and have a little confidence that starting him now would not just be feeding Mitch into a meat grinder?

      • We also are clueless about the WR corp.

When was the last time we’ve been so clueless about that unit?

White has been mediocre at best. He doesn’t seem like the 4.3 burner that will take defenders and extra blitzers out of the box.

And the rest (except for Thompson in the slot, who may not even make the team), we have never seen play a real game in Bears uni.

We know Miller, but knowing him, he may not even make it to the opener, and even if he does, Sims and Shaheen will likely take downs, and have we seen either in REAL Bear games? NOPE.

And we’re squaring off against 3 high-scoring playoff teams and 1 very good bucs team on the upswing.

Throwing in a roook could be like throwing McG into the ring vs an undefeated champ.

May not embarrass himself, but the results would be the same.

        A beat down.

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

It’s all about the Offensive scheme, I actually have faith in Loggains. He was able to make Barkley look competent for a little while last year with a bunch of unknown receivers.

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

“We also are clueless about the WR corp.
When was the last time we’ve been so clueless about that unit? ”

Last year. How many games did we start Deonte Thompson, Josh Bellamy, Cam Meredith? BTW no one except Irish believed Meredith was anything last year.

          • But we didn’t go into the season with that line up.
Alshon was there, and Hoyer made Cam a back to back 100 yd receiver by mid season.

This yr, no Alshon, no Cam.

            I like Thompson, but he’s no #1.

            White?
            Gentry?
            Cruz?
            Wheaton?
            Stonehands Bellamy?

          • willbest

Bellamy is an odd duck in that he seems to need the pressure to make the catch. Its like he is thinking about the catch too much otherwise.

          • Bellamy may actually have the most upside of our receivers, as cray cray as that sounds.

He’s like the opposite of Bennett (the underwear model, not the TE).

He seems to ALWAYS be open. But when the ball hits his hands, fack.

If he can just CATCH, he could easily make ppl forget about Cam.

But as the saying goes, if my aunt had balls..

          • A7Xthebest

This is something I couldn’t agree more with. If Bellamy could catch, he would easily be our best receiver.

        • Irish Sweetness

          Thompson’s our best receiver.

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

so you have no faith in the Oline? an Oline that may only have 1 change in players from last year if Long is not able to go. An Oline that plug and played Kush and Larsen last year and did not seem to miss out much, and actually looked better in some cases.

And the rush is, I am tired of watching us lose! but maybe that does not concern you much, we should just sit Trubs the entire year and let him make his mistakes next year.

        • CanadaBear

Kush is on IR and Larsen is gone. Long might start the season on the shelf and nobody wants to see Grasu at C. Other than that, yeah, same as last year.

        • SC Dave

I’m not sure what to think about the oline. Long may not play, and Whitehair is moved over so Grasu can play. Kush and Larsen are both gone. Do none of these facts cause you any pause?

I don’t believe I’ve said anywhere that we sit Trubisky all year, although it really depends on how things go. If we by some miracle end up 4-0 (or even 3-1) under Glennon, would you bench him?

          I sure as shit wouldn’t.

If we’re 0-2 and a couple plays away where it looks like Trubisky will be the difference, then play him to see if we can escape the stretch experts are calling as 0-4 with a couple of wins.

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

NO they do not cause me any pause, because there is ALWAYS going to be questions and concerns. Your opinion is since the Oline is a concern we don’t throw the rookie into as you call it a meat grinder. What happens if we go 0-4 with Glennon and we lost the games because of Glennon’s play, but also lose Sitton and Whitehair to injuries? do we stay with Glennon because everyone is afraid that the rookie can’t handle it?

          • SC Dave

Did you read my last paragraph?

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

yes i did. but your original premise is that you wanted a sense of what the Oline was like before we start the kid. so the same scenario goes in regards to your last paragraph. we are 0-2 and we are only a couple plays away where Trubs would be the difference, but we lose Sitton and/or Whitehair to injury. Do you still want to play Trubs?

  • bigrobstunner

8% seems like an awful small amount to donate on a $30 T-Shirt…. $2.40 Cents…… hmmmm

    • Del Reid

Hey there. Valid point. Typically we donate as much as $8 per shirt for our two week run designs but with “special editions” that run over a shorter period of time, we have to do a smaller percentage because the yield of orders is often much smaller. And because we do everything screen print– which requires specific quantity thresholds– on literally the highest quality tees available, we have to make sure we stay ahead of cost. 🙂

      • bigrobstunner

Thank you for the open and candid response! I’m now going to buy a t-shirt!

          • Del Reid

Thanks! Much obliged. We’ve gone pretty hard on Blackhawks and Cubs designs over the past year and half, definitely need to work more Bears ones into the mix going forward.

“Suns Out, Buns Out, Cigarette In” on the back of the shirt. Thank you in advance.

  • leftcoastdave

    Another $.02 worth:

“My hope for those guys is that they can come along at their own pace,” Rodgers says. “I did, and it meant the world to me. Not everyone is in a situation where they’re playing behind a first-ballot Hall of Famer, but to be able to come along without that pressure allows you to reset.”

That reset is a chance to step out of the constant high-pressure demands placed on a starting quarterback. After spending years in the churn of week-to-week preparation, getting that time on the bench allowed him to take a longer look not only at who he was on the field, but also at what the league was like. “If you’re smart, and you listen, and you watch, you can start to figure out how these guys make it—and why other guys don’t make it,” Rodgers says.

    • King of DBB

Everyone in NFL circles – people with coaching and playing experience – will talk at length about how much it benefits a young QB to study under tutelage and grow into a role before stepping out there.

Jeff need only look at how RG3 was “ruined” to know better. Shanny did not get RG3 to buy into his progression mechanics and RG3 started running and running, until a linebacker just as fast as him put a pad on his knee as he was running out of bounds. He fucked his knee and also shattered his confidence. RG3 without superior speed had little to fall back on.

Vadgers had a huge advantage holding the clipboard for a few years for Farve. He saw what worked, what Farve liked to improvise – how to lead other guys – how not to.

This is a .500 team at best – and a sane look at the schedule and one realizes it is a .200 team in all likelihood. Whitehair is a stud and can handle going back to G, but the line is shuffled and protection is iffy once the opposition start showing their blitzes which they hold back in PS. Trub might – and I mean MIGHT- get them 1-2 more wins than Glennon does. Glennon showed enough in the Titans game to give him a chance to start. If he shits the bed BAD or gets hurt, Trub is in there anyway.

Jeff is going to look a damn fool if – once Trubisky gets in there – there are fumbles lost from snaps and a bunch of bad throws. Glennon has no durability record, so Jeff just may get his t-shirt wish by game 3 or so – so everybody calm the fuck down and see what happen and focus on what it might take to beat the Falcons.

      • Johnnywad

        Well said.

And just looking at Glennon, he looks fragile.

A .200 team seems pretty pessimistic though. I’ve got them closer to .500, perhaps even a sniff at 9 wins.

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

        how to beat the Falcons.
        1. don’t start Glennon.

  • CanadaBear

Besides the fact that Foxy and Nathan Lane have a much better idea of where MT is at in his march to the starters job, why the rush? Once MT is elevated to the big chair, going back to Glennon is a bad look. For everyone involved. Unless MT fails miserably, once he’s installed as the starter there should be no looking back. Seems premature to promote MT at this time.

    • Bender McLugh

It’s all about the entertainment of the fan watching. That’s the only valid reason to start Trubs now that I can think of. I’m paraphrasing Jeff here — “If (the rookie) starts this year, I will watch every single snap of every single game. I won’t be able to watch a full season of Glennon.” or however he phrased it.

      • willbest

Speaking from a purely economic standpoint irrespective of talent, they won’t need the Trubisky gimmick for the first few games. Its when the weather turns and the Bears are out of contention that they would want him in to help beer sales at Soldier Field.

      • Doubt Glennon lasts that long.

Esp after that brutal 4 game start.

        Trub comes in as savior.

        All is good.

  • King of DBB

Shit seen on Hard Knocks w. Bucs:

    * Gerald McCoy is a stud
    * OJ Howard looks like the kick ass 1st round TE talent that everybody said he would be. He also exudes locker room leadership
    * Fitzy is a kind of a dick. A Harvard dick but perhaps a ok backup QB
    * The story the coaches tell of falling to the floor and crying when they got Winston is a bullshit story and it makes them all look like a bunch of stupid pussies, I have no idea why they would tell it since it’s a lie and makes them look like they need tampons. The kid has talent and leads the locker room – but he himself does not feel he should be compared to Newton – yet
    * Bucs secondary is weak and could be exploited by the Bears but the front 7 are motherfuckers and will crash the gates
    * Bucs got some fugly ass wives. These are ugly pedestrian wives, so for the NFL it’s a joke.
    * Everybody loves them a fat ass nose tackle. Ain’t no team gonna pass on a fat ass nose tackle.

    • CanadaBear

I’m guessing the Bears won’t be able to avoid that show for much longer. I’m just glad they weren’t on when Nessman was in charge. None of us would have been able to live that down among our buddies.

      • King of DBB

Nessman with his “build the man” speeches and Lance Briggs rolling his eyes into the camera and bailing out of every team meeting he can skip. Yeah – woulda sucked

        • CanadaBear

Can you imagine how much shit your pals that aren’t Bears fans would have given you? It would have been brutal.

    • Scharfinator

I noticed how fucking far Jon Gruden wants the pirate dick in his mouth.

Good god that guy is a fucking chode.

      • King of DBB

Yeah I forgot that scene where Chucky And Shoeless Rex Ryan stroked Winston. Jesus, bring Vaseline next time.

        • Scharfinator

What struck me is how fake and canned Winston’s responses were. It was absurd.

      • Irish Sweetness

I wish he was my Head Coach.

    • BerwynBomber

Not surprising about Fitzy. That was my impression of him his last couple of years for the NYJ.

In the way back machine, I believe Erik Kramer had a similar, well-earned rep as a dick.

    • I’m always amazed that perennial backups like Fitz can be a dick.

Like, if you’re Vadgers, you can be a smug douchaine.

When you’re throwing 6 picks in one game, shut the fuck up and get everyone lunch.

      Can’t be a cuck AND a dick.

    Draft Date/Time: Sep 2, Sat, 10pm ET
    Type: Auction $200 (monopoly $)
2 QB, kinda half ppr (points for everything, including big plays)
Waiver wire: $100 Free agent auction continuous

Ok, You can google “free agent auction continuous” but I’ll explain a lil.

Basically, it’s like auction. You get $100 (not real) at the start of the season; it must last you the entire season.

You use the $ to bid on free agents every week. This is better than simply awarding first waiver wire priority to losers, though losers still own tie breakers.

    So it’s rather simple.

If in the first week LeVeon Bell goes down, then his backup isn’t simply awarded to the biggest loser.
Every team has a chance to jump on a starting HB.
You bid an amount of your budget. How much you bid is up to you. If you REALLY want him, you bid a lot. Remember, you don’t know if others want your guy, or if you’re bidding against yourself. And if you blow your entire wad in week 1, you can’t bid on FAs the rest of the season, so you’ll have to make do with leftovers.

This is much more fun esp if you’re winning or are stuck in the middle trying to get over the hump into the playoffs.

If you’re a loser, then this is probably bad news, but hey, you’re not planning on losing!
    “merica.

      • CanadaBear

I’m going with 5-11 +/- 2. If they have great health add 2 wins, if they have the usual injury luck, subtract 2 wins.

        • King of DBB

          seconded

    • willbest

So I went game by game and my first pass had us at 8 wins. Which seems really high to me. Looking back through I think anywhere from 4 to 9 wins is reasonable (baring excessive injury).

Also, I don’t really think it matters who the QB is between Glennon and Trubisky because Foxball is about clock management more than it is about quick scoring and lots of turnovers to prevent the D from tiring. So its not a situations where we head into the bye 2-6, make the switch and just start kicking ass. I just feel we are going to get slaughtered with a bunch of teams that don’t look like they did much regressing over the off-season, and the back half of our schedule is much easier.

Unless Wentz takes the next step, half our D has now played him (which wasn’t true last year). The D that hasn’t played him is better than it was last year. We have film on him.

Vic and Fox are intimately familiar with their #1 receiver. We won’t roll out a gimpy QB and have to replace him with another QB who wasn’t taking #1 reps (presumably). And we won’t be pretending that Langford is our #1 RB (baring injury). The game is in Philly, but I like our chances in that one.

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/08/31/lions-trade-former-first-round-pick-laken-tomlinson-to-49ers-for-fifth-round-pick/

I always like players who come from strong teams. Like Cooper came from an excellent secondary in Zona. Maybe Pace thinks the same and makes a trade for Lane (esp given Prince/Callahan inj history. I do NOT want McMannis out there again)

One very important detail to remember.

The Bears hold the 3rd waiver wire priority when all the like 800 players get cut this weekend, and as Biggsy pointed out, we have the 1st waiver wire priority of 3-4defenses, so the Bears might be able to snatch up the best 3-4 cut defenders this Sat.

    Hope Pacebot is on it.

Big news… more coming tick. tock . tick. tock

New: Manafort notes from June 2016 Trump Tower Don Jr. meeting contained references to “donations” and “RNC,” sources tell NBC News. The references, which have not been previously disclosed, elevated the significance of the June 2016 mtg for congressional investigators. Putin and Russia gave donations to RNC. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/manafort-notes-russian-meet-contain-cryptic-reference-donations-n797816?cid=sm_npd_nn_tw_ma

No. Way. The RNC was on the take from Russia? Who could have EVER imagined that possibility and a RICO case to go with it,

    • King of DBB

Did Russian Hackers get into Pacebot 2000s O/S?

It explains a lot of decisions. Ginny is on the take from Putin!

      • King of DBB

        Dear Vlad,

Nowadays, it seems you have compromised nearly everyone famous. Either with secret donations or loans via one of the 4 national banks you operate. (Side note: Why do all Russian banks have 3 letter acronyms? Don’t any of them have real names? Is that part of your KGB training to confuse and divert the enemy? I digress.)

Well, *I* would like to be on the take from the Russians.

I am not famous, nor do I have anything really to offer in return, but still, for a modest sum, let’s say $100k/mo. in a Cayman island account, I can offer this:

        * Tell all my pals that Russian babes are hotter than American babes.
        * Brag that all Russian gals are “full service”, if you know what I mean. (wink wink)
        * Drink only state sponsored Vodka at parties
        * Make the Beatles “Back in the USSR” my ringtone
        * Put a poster of you up in my garage riding your horse.
        * Publicly claim that people who think you colluded with Trump are “libtards”
        * Constantly harp that the dollar is overvalued and gold is the only safe haven
        * Blame an ethnic minority of your choosing (Jews, Ukrainians, blacks, your call) for most of the world’s ills

For all of that, 100k is a bargain. I can be bought! (We all can, but I am the most reasonable). Set me up, Vlad! At this point, I think I am one of the last people NOT on the take.

        Spasibo!

        • SC Dave

Awesome. Let me know when it works… I have to think a little bit about my pitch, but I think it will have to do with FEMA and refining of gasoline.

NO better way to get Americans by the short hairs than jacking up their gas prices. It’s pretty much a guarantee that it will be Trump’s fault since he won and hence disqualified George Bush as a target for blame.

  • beninnorcal

Why does it seem like we always face the Browns in the last game of preseason, or that we always, at least, play them at some point in preseason?

    • willbest

We have like a 20 year agreement to do that. I don’t know the reason for it. We technically play them twice this year, although none of the players playing tonight will be playing in week 16.

      • SC Dave

So Trubisky on the bench all year?

        • willbest

          heh. Fair point.

    • willbest

Oh here we go. I found this

“The NFL schedules the first three weeks of the preseason, but all
individual teams are responsible for creating their match-ups for the
finale. The Bears and Browns agreed to a series, alternating between the
two cities on a yearly basis. It’s a good partnership because it’s a
short trip and the non-conference foes only play each other in the
regular season once every four years. This season the Bears will host
the Browns in the preseason finale and visit Cleveland during the
      regular season.”

      • I think Biggsy mentioned that his is the LAST yr of our contract with the Browns for PS.

He speculated that the Bears might make a new one with the Titans since they’re more or less in the same time zone? Some shit like that.

Anyhow, I’d rather play a better team overall for headhunting purposes, even if it’s the bottom feeders.

      • SC Dave

Was going to mention that, but no need now.

    • King of DBB

      Probably Rahm’s doing.

Cleveland is driveable, and Ohioans like to come to Chicago and spend money. It’s how the World Series was engineered by the Illuminati, to promote Chicago tourism.

  • BerwynBomber

My surprise team for the year is the Chargers. Gus Bradley will prove he was, indeed, an excellent DC. The Chargers will win the AFCW.

Honorable mention (as surprise teams) are MIA and CHI. Cutler will play reasonably well. MIA has a lot of weapons and a solid D. Plus, Gase seems like a keeper. The dude went 10-6 his first year with Tannenhill.

Cutler, of course, will engender all the talk, especially on this blog, but years from now I suspect it might be Gase that we will miss most. Lots of “we should have canned Fox and kept Gase” remorse.

Bears should be 8-8 competitive, especially if the Kid comes in and lights a fire under the O. But even if Glennon can play Hoyer ball we have the makings of heavy D/heavy ball control, competitive team. And nobody in our division frightens except for one guy on the Cheese.

    • SC Dave

Your crystal ball on Gase gives a plausible scenario, but it depends a lot on who succeeds Fox.

I’d love to see Loggains become obviously worthy, though I wonder how Fangio would take that.

Not sure what I would actually do, but my speculative predilection is that were I a top shelf OC or DC, respected my HC and was with a winner, I’d just stay.

For example, if you were a hot shit DC working for Belichik and in the hunt to win the Super Bowl every fucking year, why leave?

Yeah, money. But what do so many of the rich guys lament?

      Not being a champion.

To me, that would be worth a lot more than having twenty times the money I need instead of three times.

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

why leave? my guess is ego.

      • Yeah, but these OC/DCs grind it out so much for YEARS, that when they finally get an opportunity, many jump on it.
They don’t dream of being the next Wade Phillips.
They dream about being the next Bill, Landry, Shula.

Also, the Pat’s situation is unique.

For instance, if you were the OC for the Falcons and offered a HC job, wouldn’t you take it?

No guarantee they’re even the best team in their division, yet alone NFC or NFL.

        • SC Dave

Depends on which team, I suppose.

  • TJ Ward rumored to get cut from Broncos. Those rumors aren’t going away.

I don’t know if SF passes him up, but I doubt the Jets get him since they invested in S this offseason.

He may fall in our lap.

I like Action Jackson’s prospect, but TJ Ward and Demps would be hard to pass if I were GM

As I wrote below/above, CB Lane from SEA might be available also, and arguably a bigger need.

    • willbest

Pretty sure waivers for NFL players with more than 4 accured seasons only happen during season when their contract becomes guaranteed. Out here in the preseason they are just released and are free to pursue other teams. Like with Josh Sitton.

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

yep, Hayden also did not have to go through waivers and he is free to sign with any team.

        • AlbertInTucson

And, like Hayden, Ward will, no doubt, prefer to sign with a bona fide contender.

          • We have a lil pull.
Fox coached Ward, and Tre was his team mate.

Maybe he wants in on the ground floor?

      • Shoot, didn’t even think of that.
I’m not sure how many seasons Lane has actually played, but Ward will have his choice with those rules.

  • willbest

Kyle Fuller is getting the night off? Good lord. That kid has a case of pussyitis and they are accommodating it?

“Folks, believe what you want. Bears are not playing their best players

The first and last sentence seem to be at odds with one another. I also find there to be ample evidence that the middle two sentences are incorrect. Trub might have more potential. And you aren’t going to turn that potential into anything until you get the ball rolling, but that doesn’t make him better than Glennon at the moment. Glennon had the better 3rd PS game.

I assume you’re not being sarcastic. Because you shouldn’t be.

  • willbest

Probably also doing this to get the LA game time reps too

  • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

Grasu getting owned by guys that won fan participation contests on Cleveland radio.

    • madscout12

And he’s played in that spot in place of our rookie standout. Bears having problems playing the best players.

      • SC Dave

Yeah, put Whitehair back in his Pro Bowl spot and fucking be done with it.

We need a G or two from the cuts.

  • CLE trying to get Kessler KILLED.

  • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

    Kwiatkoski fucking lost.

    • SC Dave

      Oh gawd… snother anon douchenne

      • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

Dave, he sucks man. He has no aggressive instincts unless he’ on a double A gap blitz. He’s always yards off the ball and never attacks the play. He’s too passive for a professional middle linebacker.

        • He also has trouble disengaging from blocks. He doesn’t seem to have violent hands or killer instincts.

Unless he becomes Petyon-esque with his playbook knowledge, I just dont see him becoming more than an Amos level player.

  • RRH almost got a sack there on the HB screen.
Tough position for him. The coaches will prolly tell him to recognize that screen and peel off next time, but gotta like his aggression.

  • Jones and Kwiat getting a lot of work, that’s for sure.
They’re up and down, as expected.

    • SC Dave

Good to have them learning, since we’re likely to need them

  • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

The only time kwiatkoski looks aggressive is when he’s told to on a blitz. Otherwise he’s fucking lost.

  • Double A gap blitz finds home again.
    It’s Jones turn

  • Reynolds all over that.
    He’s had an interesting PS.

Maybe keep his # after cuts.

  • Rounds just alligator armed it.
Trub seems like he’s still settling down

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

i don’t believe it. That takes years to master.

  • Jesus, Shaheen.

Don’t make me change my FF handle.

    • Irish Sweetness

That’s the first time I’ve noticed him this PS.

      • I’ve said it b4, I’m not expecting shit from him this season.

But you gotta catch it when it literally hits you between the numbers.

He hasn’t impressed me this offseason, esp after all the practice hype.

        • Irish Sweetness

For a second round pick he’d better fucking show up this season. That was bullshit.

  • willbest

Houston is playing like a guy that thinks he is getting cut

    • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

Cutting him would be a mistake. McPhee is done.

      • willbest

Paying him $6 mil is a bigger mistake

        • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

          Ok we will see.

  • If Braverman wasn’t white, he’d have taken that to the house.

  • Irish Sweetness

Why are there no QB stats for the first half? WTF? Just got the game going, trubisky came in and now he’s done? Were we snapping to the RBs?

    • Mitch didn’t throw much. Maybe like 5 passes or something.

      • Irish Sweetness

But there were drives before him…..

        • willbest

          Trub started

          • Irish Sweetness

            ok thanks.

    • willbest

It was 9 handoffs to start the game

      • Irish Sweetness

        Wow.

    • SC Dave

The stats don’t fit the narrative, I’d guess.

On the other hand, a pile of snaps for Trubisky to practice handing off is good for the regular season plan

  • willbest

Has bellamy made the team or is he so gone as to not merit 1st half PS 4

  • Shawshank Redemptions!
I went 11-2 in ff last yr and still lost smh

I love the LS name. I hope he spends the next 15 years here

    • He’s a swing OT too, right?

      • willbest

No this is some rook Overbaugh, pronounced overball, great name for anybody snapping a football

  • Thompson, gotta track that deep ball better.
    He’s def on the bubble.

  • I have a feeling Pace is going to pick up a good vet this weekend.

    I dunno what position.

CB, WR, D/Oline would be my guess, in that order.

    • CanadaBear

They definitely need all of them, esp OL.

      • heck ya.

Compton, CJ Wilson, McMannis or Bellamy should never see the field.

        • EnderWiggin

Well, McMannis and Bellamy should be taking turns with special team tackles.

        • madscout12

Bellamy should. Plays teams well. Gets open…just needs to catch the damn ball.

        • Needless to say, out side specials!

    • madscout12

      Another OLB would be nice.

  • Love the Howard seg.

Such a humble no-non-sense dude and runner.

Almost forgot he played in the PB.

When he was signing a fan autograph, the kid asked, “Are you the next Walter?”

Howard, “Nah, I can never live up to him”

    Get er done, Howard!

He also said he cut off fried food (wish I could!) and now has bionic eyes

    • SC Dave

He wants to be Walter, but knows what it will take.

      Make it happen, Jordan.

  • Houston… we got a problem.

    • CanadaBear

      What happened?

      • He’s down. Was laying flat on his stomach while the trainers ran out.

Fox was going out there too.

        • CanadaBear

          IR or injury settlement.

    • madscout12

If we had plans for him, why the fuck is he out there in 3rd qt of preseason 4?

      • I think Fox wanted to see if he was indeed getting cut.
he has like a $5M cap hit, so they prolly wanted to make sure.

But, if he’s inj, don’t know how that hits the cap.

4th PS games are games that remind you that JAG is a distinction that numerous guys on NFL camp rosters don’t have the talent to achieve.

  • Timu is such a cock tease.
He plays fast. Instinctive. Nose for the ball.
    But completely lost in coverage.

  • Man. You gotta love Shaw going balls to the wall diving for inches in the waning minutes of the 4rth PS game, but man, you gotta slide some Shaw.

That’s the same leg he fucked up last PS.

  • Ugh. That last hit on Trub was scary.
Could you imagine if Trub got hurt in the very last play of the 4rth PS game while down 25-0? lol

    • SC Dave

I imagine #playTheKid might lose a little of its luster.

    • Irish Sweetness

Did I hear on the cast that the Bears were looking for a receiver?

  • leftcoastdave

Now we wait to see who da Bears can trade for low draft picks.

  • Irish Sweetness

Wow. Not sure if I’ll bother watching that at 1.P.M Saturday on NFL Network. Mitchell started the game, but not really. For some reason, they did that ……

    • Link?

Wouldn’t surprise me. Either way, Trub should be #2 and get some 1st team reps in-season

      • madscout12

Listen to the Fox press confrence on the bears facebook page. Was asked directly. It sounds like Sanchez is gone.

    • BerwynBomber

No surprise. Three QBs rarely happens.

      • Irish Sweetness

It’ll happen this year, it has to. We need Shaw … in case … last year.

  • BearDown100393

    Mitch >>>> Bears

    Got it.

  • CanadaBear

From JD; Bears safeties Deiondre Hall and Harold Jones-Quartey both sustained hamstring injuries on Thursday night.

    • BerwynBomber

Has Hall does anything this PS? I haven’t noticed.

    • They’re likely gone or “red shirted” with some faux inj

S should be: Demps, Jackson, Amos, Prosinski or Bush.

I thought Hall might stick as a sorta swing CB/S but he didn’t flash much.

      • willbest

We have seen enough of HJQ to know he shouldn’t be on the team.

Hall spent last year injured, he can go chill on the PS instead of IR.

    • Irish Sweetness

GTFO! The first part of that is disappointing.

  • ButtonShoes

So, now does everyone else agree with me that John Fox needs to get canned ASAP? That final play of the game should be the last play that dumbfuck ever calls as head coach of this team.

    • Don’t you hate Pace, Trubisky, McCaskeys and all things Bears regardless?

      • ButtonShoes

I do hate Pace and the McCaskeys. Trubisky I wouldn’t have picked but he’s the future now, so it’s time to see what he’s got. The Bears I like, but I’m not going to support them unreservedly. If the Bears do dumb things, then they need to be called out on it repeatedly. Or bad things need to happen to them, so that they stop doing dumb things.

    • Irish Sweetness

Getting Trubisky to break the world record for hand-offs in a game was curious. Looking at it initially on NFL.COM I thought they had run direct snaps to the RBs. Are they drilling him with center-exchanges? Or not wanting the boy to excel and thus stir up the controversy more?
      Strange.

But before raising any problem, have a solution.

      1. Who do you bring in as HC?
      2. Is it helpful to fire your HC in pre-season?

When it does happen, I vote Chucky. He’s your friend to the end.

      • ButtonShoes

Well, if you’re going to fire Fox, then you need to do a proper search for HC. Until then, make Fangio temporary HC, if he’s willing. And is it helpful to fire your HC in the pre-season? Usually, I’d say no. But when your HC is an ongoing disaster like Fox is, I’d say that maybe you risk it.

      • SC Dave

The guy had trouble taking snaps from center in camp. Game experience is good.

And it is extremely unlikely Fox will be fired during the season.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

I did not watch the 2nd half. But are you really pissed about the last play of the 4rth preseason game? Seriously?

      • ButtonShoes

Yes, I am really pissed about John Fox putting Mitch in with 6 seconds left in the 4th quarter of a meaningless pre-season game, resulting in him getting sacked! Why risk a potential injury in that situation?! You’ve got to be some kind of flaming stupid to do what Fox did there. I’ve fucking had it with him. Right now I’d be fine with Fangio taking over as temporary HC until a proper search for a new coach can be done. Just get rid of Fox.

      • Johnnywad

And the “This user is blocked” list grows again.

        • SC Dave

He was already on mine 🙂

          • CanadaBear

            A long time ago!

    • willbest

I didn’t watch the second half, why was Trubisky back out there?

      • ButtonShoes

Connor Shaw got injured, so they put Trubisky back out there. With 6 seconds left in the 4th. And then they had him drop back, and of course he got sacked. Because John Fox is a complete fucking moron.

  • Irish Sweetness
    • Bender McLugh

aw Falsey boy, he always looks so good against scrubs

      • Irish Sweetness

Question: What has placing a rainbow in the hands of a receiver down the sideline got to do with playing scrubs? The accuracy is irrelevant to the defense. Cutty couldn’t hit those. Hoyer certainly couldn’t. Nobody we have now, other than Mitch, can make that throw.

        • Bender McLugh

          Pressure & coverage……nevermind

  • Bender McLugh

    DaBearsBlog @dabearsblog
Last night confirmed to me what I believed: Bears have no idea what they’re doing with Mitch Trubisky.

It only confirms that YOU have no clue what they are doing with Mitch. They have a plan, they aren’t including you. This is getting really old, Jeff.

    • BearDown100393

Odd the McCaskeys have not yet hired Jeff to run the Bears.

      • Scharfinator

        Hee hee

    • SC Dave

It’s been really old for a while now.

    • Irish Sweetness

It is puzzling, Jeff’s thing with Mitch. The Bears have no idea? They spelled it out, bit by bit. In detail. In fact, it was quite a complex plan, and is going according to expectations, more or less. The boy has done well. Good!

  • King of DBB

Bears missing those 2nd and 3rd round picks right about now

    #Lynched

    • Bender McLugh

haha probably not, depends what they find in the scrap heap this weekend, no?

      • King of DBB

We need a wideout to replace Meredith.

        • Bender McLugh

I’m not certain about that. Wheaton is returning sooner than later, and Thompson & Gentry will spread the offense with their speed. If one happens to get cut that is a nice big target like Meredith then I can see it. Have anyone in mind that’s on the bubble?

          • King of DBB

Supposedly the Packers have an embarassment of riches at wideout and a couple will hit the street.

With our position 3 on waivers, we should be able to get dibs on a Deonte Thompson upgrade.

          • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

Miami has 2 guys that would be an instant upgrade. Stringfellow and some other dude.

          • Irish Sweetness

Kenny Stills would be a good #1 for us.

          • willbest

All Packers WRs are fools gold, unless they look all Madden with Tolzien or whoever their backuping up Erin these days.

          • Bender McLugh

            that would be vury nice

        • I may give Pace shit on passing on CBs and Dlinemen when we’re dreadfully thin there, but he did try to get WRs.

By most account, he offered Alshon the best multiyr deal of any team in the league.
Alshon just refused and wanted out. And, surprise surprise, he’s running wrong routes and is hampered AGAIN by some inj in Philly.

Cam Meredith was a find, but bad inj luck

White was a consensus “safe” pick. He checked all the boxes

          Athletic
Productive (albeit 1 yr, but that doesn’t stop any GM)
          Great tape
No character or inj red flags

NO ONE at the time hated the pick. Some wanted a defender, but I don’t recall ONE person screaming he was going to bust.

Now, it could be argued that Pace could’ve signed Pryor this FA, but he was in the same boat as Alshon, and signed a 1-ry deal with the Foreskins.

I think Pace is sniffing around for a WR, but until then, White will have to be the man.

If he’s not, then that becomes priority #1 this offseason.

          • willbest

Just as long as he isn’t Angelo and O-line bad at the position.

          • When he drafted White, some Angelo scouts were probably still on the payroll.

He has since then purged the scouting dept, and we’re seeing the results with the likes of Howard, Whitehair, Floyd, Cohen, Trub…

I think Pace will be alright drafting forward, though WR seems to have high bust rates, maybe even higher than QB, so might be safer to overpay for a sure thing in FA.

One WR stud usually always hits FA every offseason

    • CanadaBear

      • Irish Sweetness

The Bears organization is forcing Jeff into a dark place filled with Guinness, whiskey and fried foods.

    Jeff, is this seat taken?

  • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

Does anyone feel like there may be an issue at WR this year? Like all of the Marshall-less and Alshon-less years? The years where Angelo would trot out 4 has beens and never will be’s and tells you that the QB makes the WR?

I feel like we are the fucking Jets man and Jets don’t win shit.

How frustrating will it be to have an above average D and still get smoked most of the time? Well, it’s coming in a few days and you can let me know. I’ll be on south beach getting served up a mango margarita (frozen like vadge) by some hot ass cuban waitress as Cutty is slinging the rock to:

        • Johnnywad

Nobody knows. I sure hope so. If he’s not, we got a problem.

      • Irish Sweetness

        Did he do anything yet?

        • Johnnywad

          No.

    • according to Jeff’s “greatness overcomes all theory” we can trot out Braverman, Marquis Wilson, and Joe Anderson with Trub behind C and still score 30.

(And let’s not forget that either Grasu or Compton are going to start too)

This is why many of the regs would rather throw the Glennon out there to see what we have first.

Glennon is our $18M canary in a mine.

If our WRs and O and D look competent while Glennon plays poorly, then get Trub ready.

If our WRs are dropping 10 balls (like that Barkley game), the D is blitzing like crazy cuz they don’t respect the pass, and Grasu is still skating into the Qb, then maybe that’s not the optimum enviornnment to throw a rook into (See, RG3 – Luck)

Sidenote. MIA is rumored to trade Landry

      • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

MIA not trading Landry. Gase met with him personally to let him know it was not going to happen.

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

as long as the trot out Braverman our QBs would look like Brady.

      • Irish Sweetness

The logical thing to do is start Mike. We have a tough schedule. Let him naturally soil the sheets for a while, as Mitchell gets his reps, studies tape, prepares. When the bed has been well and truly destroyed … introduce the boy. That beautiful boy.

        Mitchell, with the wavy hair.

    • Irish Sweetness

Wright = speed slot. Tarik can play that role too.

      Wheaton = Mr. Deep ball.

      Deonte = Cam.

      White = ?

      Tanner = ?

Bellamy? Who’s in that spot now?

If we have a running game – and I don’t think Jordan can stay in that role all season by himself – then those guys would be enough for Mitchell to work with .. but he won’t be our QB.

I’d kick the tires on Boldin for giggles. Give the Bucs a call for that tall WR featured on Hard Knocks .. .Chris …?

Give the NYG a call and either steal Shephard, or see if they would part with our Brandon!

He’s definitely a lousy person but the woman sure would make a terrible witness. What a nut job. No doubt she’s a gold digger and no doubt EE took advantage of her. Does this constitute domestic violence? Not sure. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

      • King of DBB

Yeah, the Thompson ho-bag is cray-cray.

Gets knocked up, refuses to abort, then miscarrys, then goes back to him, then gets in a fist fight with him when he tries to go backdoor on her (lesson learned), and then openly talks about extorting him. she nuts.

            restraining orders work wonders.

          • willbest

speaking of restraining orders, we had a set of parents take one out against another parent at my kids school this week. Apparently, their kid bullied her kid and she decided to stalk their kid.

I know their kid is a legit bully, but I also know that lady is certifiable since she lives on my block. Somehow her children are relatively normal. I have met her husband a few times, and he seems like a decent guy. I really want to tell him to get his wife in check, but I know he knows and its just not within his ability.

Good under the radar story on Shaheen’s development as a blocker.

Fox is doing a great job developing him up by working on his weakness.

    https://nflspinzone.com/2017/09/01/chicago-bears-adam-shaheen-quietly-progressing-well/

    • Bender McLugh

Hopefully this will translate to the reg season

“During the game against the Tennessee Titans, he made two key blocks that resulted in touchdowns. On the first one, he kept Brian Orakpo out of the backfield. On the second one, it was against Kevin Dodd. Both defenders were outside linebackers, and he blocked them without help.”

      • I noticed that Kevin White is a heck of a blocker too.
There was one play, I forgot against whom, but he just buried the defender.

If those guys pan out, that could become a very physical and dynamic O.

        • willbest

I will say this about White, he wants to be legit. He isn’t Fuller who is just there for the pay check.

          • Yeah, that’s what so frustrating about him.
The guy has a motor and will. Blocking is 80% mental. You have to WANT to pancake that guy.

White def has the heart. Don’t know if he has the legs.

        • Irish Sweetness

If he puts on 130lbs ….

          • CanadaBear

That would put White up to 350 and Shaheen up to 400.

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Irish does love any player that is mountain sized Man meat.

          • CanadaBear

If he was a GM there would be at least 30 guys on the roster at 300 or more. There would be a slew of WR’s and not one of them would be any good. And there would 10 RB’s, all of them 240 or more.

    • Irish Sweetness

Why did we – in the second round – draft a TE to block ?

He looked as bad as you could look receiving .. y’know .. .when hype wasn’t around and you just have to catch the ball.

That pick had Budda Baker or Obi or Desmond King all over it. It was a spectacularly bad reach.

      • CanadaBear

Even though none of these players have played a down in the NFL and you know this to be true. Uh-huh.

    • madscout12

      3 cst, I think.

  • willbest

The only reason I can think of to start Trubisky now, is that he is the future and you want to get started on that right away. But:

    1) Glennon is presently the best QB on the roster when considering knowledge, experience, and muscle memory

    2) Our WRs are suspect
    3) The first game features Bonus as the guy standing between our QB and Poe.

Yes, eventually Mitch has to put on his big boy shorts, but I am comfortable with Trubisky sitting this one out.

    • When the Bears are up by 21 points in the 4rth, play the kid!

If I hear one more writer, tv personality, talking head, blogger, etc include Nick Kwiatkoski is the Bears conversation on the strength at inside linebacker I’m going to fucking puke. Watch the game for any play that is not a called Double A gap blitz. holy fuck.

    • SC Dave

One of the great things about the inside linebacker position on the Bears is the depth provided by second-year linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski, who continues to garner praise from the Chicago coaching staff, media, and fans alike.

      ====

Now see, you COULD have wasted all that money, time, and misery on one of those colon cleanse programs. Instead, your ol’ buddy SC is willing to help, free of charge.

      • CanadaBear

I like your response but I gotta go with Johnny. Haven’t seen enough from Kwiat to get excited. Hopefully he takes a step this year.

        • To me he’s sorta like Shea at LB. JAG.

If Emery hadn’t been a dumbfuck, Shea prolly goes in the 4rth like Kwiat.

          • SC Dave

Yeah, the comparison to Shea must always bear in mind draft position.

Dave, I love white people as much as the next guy, just not on my team. Compared to me, Nick Kwiatoski is a bad motherfucker, a man not to be trifled with, a stud muffin tackling machine.
Compared to a starting middle linebacker in the National Football League he is the paid cuckold “husband” that watches the porn actress take on 3 to 5 super hung brothers for about 48 minutes unable to do anything about it as he sits in the corner with some sort of submission penis chastity belt on.
If the Bears could simply run him on double A gap blitzes against 4th string centers and guards we’d be fucking golden but alas it is not to be.

My shitty, cracked crystal ball tells me Christian Jones will end up being our #3 ILB before the season is over, barring some luck on the waiver wire.

But, it was too easy to pass up, my man. I hope you have recovered from your regurgitation exertions.

          • A7Xthebest

Kwiatkoski is a legitimate starting-caliber lb in the NFL.

          • Irish Sweetness

Dude. If by legitimate starting-caliber you mean JAG, then yes.
On a team with our history of linebackers … he’s the weak and effeminate cousin, suffering with the consumption.

        • Irish Sweetness

Then again, there’s nothing wrong with Double A-gap blitzes. I think it should be the starting position for any defense and occur at least every third play. Pressure.

Shaw is recovering from “minor” ankle surgery. The team decided to waive Shaw in May but then changed its mind. With the Bears rolling three deep at quarterback, Shaw will be released with an injury
settlement once he gets healthy. – Roto

Guess Browns signed the rook K Zane Gonzales. He made a 53 yrder easily at Soldier (though he did miss a PAT). Was hoping they’d cut him and we could take a chance on him.

Kniles Davis cut. He can return kicks too, though our cup runneth over at RB.

Chis 2K Johnson, Ridley and Ronnie Hillman part of the great HB purge.

    • Irish Sweetness

You know what? Seeing him take a coverage sack for a safety kind of stuck a pin in him for me. Can’t do that. Waiting for a bus in the endzone? His Kung Fu is weak.

What would it take us to get Falesy back, like we got him back before off the Ravens? Never should have cut that guy. Threw three TDs and no picks yesterday.

  • In case you were wondering, Wheaton out for the first two weeks most likely.

    #playTheKidWk3

Markus Wheaton (finger) is expected to miss another 1-2 weeks.

That makes him doubtful for Week 1 against the Falcons. Wheaton suffered a broken little finger close to three weeks ago. With Wheaton still sidelined, Kevin White and Kendall Wright are the Bears’ top two receivers followed by a cast of misfits and special teamers. The Bears will eye help this weekend. – Roto

Fortunately for me it was during the summer. It’s got to be nasty there in the winter being right on Lake Superior. Funny story. My dad and I are in a bar in International Falls, MN (right on the border). My dad is chatting up a local and he says he goes south for the winter. My dad asked him where he goes and he said Duluth. My dad and I both had sore knees from knocking each other. We were both dying inside and trying not to laugh in the guy’s face.

Pansy. Skip the pussy smokehouse bullshit and tuck into a proper lutefisk feast.

      You’re in fucking Minnesota.

  • AlbertInTucson

So, the NFLPA has filed for a T.R.O. to block the Elliot suspension citing the NFL’ s appeal process as “fundamentally unfair”.

Didn’t they already try this tactic in the Brady situation and didn’t the courts already rule along the lines of…

“Tough noogies. This was collectively bargained and the court is not granting you relief because the NFLPA cut a shitty deal.”?

    • willbest

Brady’s case is easily distinguishable. Brady’s actions directly affected the integrity of the game itself during the game. Elliot was on his own personal time when he beat that woman. I haven’t read the CBA but if it doesn’t distinguish between the conduct on the field and away from the field then the NFLPA lawyers are retards. If it does distinguish between the two, then the Brady ruling won’t be controlling (and likely not even instructive).

Whats more is Elliot’s conduct was an actual crime where Brady’s was just a breach of contract. Elliot was also “cleared” by the police in the sense that they correctly determined the he said-she said and the awfulness of her testimony and admission to extorting him means they wouldn’t get a conviction. In effect, the NFL is looking to punish Elliot in a criminal capacity. If he can make that argument, he will be entitled to certain due process rights. I don’t know if you are following the campus rape tribunals but a lot of Universities are now losing money to the males that they are expelling because they didn’t give them due process rights.

Lastly, the NFL just provided this woman with Exhibit A in her civil suit against Elliot. This does serious damage to Elliot because it moves it from “who do we believe more” to “how much should he pay her”. Elliot’s attorneys can’t let it stand.

      • AlbertInTucson

        Mebbe so.

I also believe that the official seal of the “Campus Rape Tribunals” incorporates the scales of justice and a gavel sticking out of a kangaroo’s pouch.

    Cruz is gone.

    Snotweiler is gone.

    Feelings after preseason generally:

    QB: We good.

RB: We are an injury away from Jordan Howard to ending the offensive capabilities for the coming season. The backups are small guys.

WR: Lots of attributes at WR (except height now), but no real go-to guy. I think Deonte could step up and be the de facto #1. Maybe they keep Pruitt around as a big body, this Shaheen kid could be a big bust.

OL: One more injury away from being also-rans.

    D#:

Our defensive depth is for shit. Our starters are an unknown quantity, particularly what’s going to happen back there in the D-Backfield. Anakumura’s ankle? Doesn’t sound good. I haven’t heard or seen anything from Marcus Cooper. Ditto Mr. Demps. Looks like any speedster is going to tear us a new one right down the middle. Do we have linebackers? I can’t see them. Who’s in charge in the middle? Who is the face of our defense? I’ve got Floyd and Hicks as starters on a SB team, that’s it.
A couple of injuries to that D and we’re for shit, once again. That plays out on our offense because they’ll hardly get the ball, and so it goes. Plus, our best QB will be on the bench, with good reason, perhaps.

No bueno Senor Pace. No bueno.

    • CanadaBear

How many times do we have to tell you the backup RB’s are within 5-10 lbs of Howard (other than Cohen)? Freeman isn’t a good ILB? Demps and Jackson will be the best pair of S the Bears have had in years.

    • BerwynBomber

IF Long returns, we will have the best OLs in the division and one of the top 10 OLs in the league.

Also the D front seven should be a true strength, and though the secondary is a question mark it should be an improvement from the last couple/few years. Just a matter of how much.

      • Bender McLugh

Secondary is already twice as good and should only improve

        • Kyle Fuller was in line to be their #1 CB last year, but he was hurt. Now he’s healthy and playing well, and still a backup.

Adrian Amos was their best S last year and has now lost his starting spot. HJQ was the other starter and he didn’t even make the roster.

Still lacking difference makers (though Jackson could be one by the end of the year), but now have solid starters and one solid backup for S, outside CB, and slot CB. Miles better than last year.

    • willbest

Irish, if your theory about having two top 20 RB talents had merit, a team would have road it to a Lombardi trophy in the last decade.

    • Sactowns#1

      This post depresses me.

      • why? It has about as much truth in it as a presidential Tweet.

        • Bender McLugh

Seriously Irish, who pissed in your Bears cheerios man? Our situation is not as dire as you make it out to be

          • they’re a QB away from being a playoff team. Likely won’t happen this year because they’ll wait too long to see if that QB is on the roster. Should happen by 2018.

This is the most optimistic I’ve been about the Bears’ future in probably a decade. Most young talent they’ve had since the Super Bowl.

          • Corporal Clott

Ah..but aren’t you forgetting? They still have to play in Chicago.

    • DL has excellent depth. Mitch Unrein was starting last year and is the #6 DL now. Bullard looks poised to make the leap, which gives them a really solid 6 players, with different skill sets and playing styles to mix and match.

OLB had excellent depth, but two of them got hurt, so that’s very shaky right now.

ILB has very solid depth with Kwiatkoski and Jones as backups. Can’t ask for more than that.

CB has Kyle Fuller and one of Callahan/LeBlanc as backups. That’s perfectly adequate depth. Fuller would have been the best CB on the roster last year if he was healthy enough to play. You can’t ask any more than to go 5 deep with playable guys.

At S, HJQ went from starter to off the roster. Amos went from best S to top backup. They have a solid starting tandem with complementary skill sets and a solid, experienced backup. What more can you want?

The defense is on the rise with both talent and depth. I don’t know WTF you were watching in the preseason, but nobody did anything against Chicago’s defense in any game until 3rd stringers were on the field. That unit is gonna be good this year, great if they can start forcing more turnovers.

Deonte Thompson is the 4th or 5th best WR on the roster. That’s easily the weakest group on the team, which was the case before their best player got hurt. Cruz was the 8th or 9th best WR on the roster, so he’s no loss. He looked like shit in preseason while playing exclusively against scrubs.

The Bears have one of the best RBs in the NFL and a scatback rookie who looked like a genuine weapon in training camp and the preseason. That should be one of the best tandems in the NFL. If one of them gets hurt, they have Cunningham as the 3rd RB. It’s a 3rd RB, you can’t expect greatness, but he doesn’t completely suck.

OL depth definitely not what I would like. Generally you want a quality starting 5 with a solid interior backup and solid OT backup. They’re still ok there with interior, once Kyle Long gets back, but OT depth is shit. If Long doesn’t get back, you can’t blame that on Pace. With the salary cap it’s impossible to plan for losing 2 starting-caliber players at one position before the season starts.

      • Don’t get me wrong: this is not a great roster. But outside of WR and QB, it’s a damn good one. Their problem for too long has been lacking difference-making stars, but they’re starting to get those now. Howard, Floyd, Hicks, Goldman, a few others who looked in the preseason like they might emerge as that this year (Bullard, Cohen, Jackson).

        • CanadaBear

You’re way more optimistic than me but even a blind man can see the improvements on the roster vs Emery’s final roster.

          • I’m telling you: this team has a legitimate contending window from 2018-20. They should absolutely be contending for a Super Bowl in that time frame.

This is assuming Trubisky pans out, but his toolset has me convinced he will. Even if he doesn’t become a stud, he’ll at least be solid.

          • Corporal Clott

Somewhere, Ralph Cramden is proud of your optimism Mr.Wood.

          • CanadaBear

Hope you’re right. I’m not convinced the roster is that good and will need to be swayed during the season. I do think MT will be a solid QB for a while, just not yet.

    • ButtonShoes

You nailed it. It boggles my mind that people keep saying that Pace assembled a good team. It’s like they’re looking at this team through rose-colored goggles.

  • Irish Sweetness

Test for Jeff’s disclaimer “Start Mitch now”:

    What’s the analogy for it?

Let’s start with cars. The QB is the engine. Gummo is our engine right now. It’s nothing special, but solid, won’t break down, get you from A to B. Mitch is the new prototype for a V8. It was stuck into a spare car and run out a few times. Sounded great, worked nice. But it’s untested in the real thing. No testing, no data yet.

Which analogy fits the scenario of Mitchell starting ASAP?

Analogies aside, one thing’s for sure … if we want to make the playoffs this year …. the boy has to start. Glennon farting about during the most crucial part of our schedule isn’t getting us into the playoffs. But if the requirement for playoffs is not there, then Mitchell can sit. Isn’t it always there though? This is not POX’ first year.

    • That Guy

Horrible analogy. But let’s play along.

And GiraffeNeck isn’t solid. He isn’t a proven veteran. We know his ceiling, and his ceiling is “get you from A to B.” His typical play is south of that ceiling.

Why not test out the prototype V8? Lab tests won’t tell you what you need to know–whether this will be your race-day engine for the next decade. Your chassis (line) is good enough where he won’t get pummeled, so “saving” your engine for next year doesn’t do you any good.

That said, I’m fine with Glennon starting the season, crapping his pants against the hard part of the schedule, and then the V8 coming in to stay. The upside to this strategy is if Trubs is the real deal and shows it, Fox is out the door and someone competent at evaluating and playing young talent can come in (two years running, Howard and now Trubs, Fox has chosen to sit a great rookie and play a less talented older guy).

      Heave-ho, Fox must go.

      • BerwynBomber

As an occasional conspiracist I wonder if this hasn’t been Pace’s plan since the moment he realized he might have something special in Trisky.

Let Glennon suffer and fail through the hard part of the schedule. Then start the rook once the season is about lost. And give Fox his walking papers once it’s over.

But it supposes Fox has to play along and/or truly believe in Glennon.

        • willbest

Fox might not care. He is 62 years old, he is going to get his $5 million next year whether he is coaching or not.

Pace is also banking on Fox being Fox. Tebow didn’t hit the field until half way through his season. Now Tebow didn’t have the football skills that Trubisky has demonstrated, but Tebow did/does have leadership and TWTW in spades.

        • Johnnywad

I’ve kind of been thinking the same thing will happen. Not from a conspiracy standpoint, but a practical one.

The kid gets a little time to adapt to an NFL season without getting murdered and still plays enough this season to matter. Let Glennon take it on the chin.

If Fox is out after this season, well that just kind of looks like what’s been murmured for quite a while. Bridge coach that’s capable of re-establishing a culture while the GM builds the roster.

I don’t think Pace has anything to hide here. I just think it’s possible they landed a more talented QB than they had assumed when this alleged plan was hatched.

      • Irish Sweetness

The first paragraph agrees with me, but whatever.

Fox hasn’t chosen anything. It’s clear he isn’t part of the process – he didn’t know they were drafting Mitch, so he’s either (a) not in charge of his own team, or (b) pissing on Mitchell because they T-Boned him with the draft.

      • CanadaBear

I’ll give Fox a pass on Howard because he wasn’t great on blitz pickup/blocking assignments to start. Same with MT due to him having trouble with pre snap reads. Totally OK with Foxy getting canned after this year. If MT starts at some point in the season and is successful, I could see Nathan Lane getting the job. Who knows?

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Analogy: I am trying to learn German. I can sit and learn from books and get little to no practical experience with the language. Therefore it will take years to learn and fully understand the intricacies of the language. OR I can be handed an abridged English to German dictionary and dropped somewhere in Germany, thereby forcing me to learn quickly. I pick up the language quickly and learn things I would have never learned from the book.

      • madscout12

Or you could send your dunce brother who flunked out of college, but took a few German classes and went to Haufbrau House on weekends, go to Germany in your stead. You skype with him everyday and speak German with him.

    • ButtonShoes

The idea behind starting Mitch isn’t that he’ll get us into the playoffs this year, because he won’t. This Bears squad, despite everyone repeating that we’re a ‘good team’ like it’s an insane mantra, is not good at all. Too many holes everywhere, no playmakers/stars, and we’re constantly injury-riddled despite Pace saying every season that he’s going to fix it. But if Trubisky is what we would hope he could become, then he needs the reps. And maybe, if he is actually good, then he’ll manage to win some games that we would have otherwise lost. Every second that he’s not on the field as our #1 QB and Glennon is, is a wasted second with him. Don’t waste time with Mike Glennon, who was a failure in Tampa and still is. Put Trubisky out there, let him play, and see what you’ve got.

        • willbest

It probably means he will be on the bench 3-4 weeks but because Houston is headed to IR they have the open spot and they feel its better to get McPhee back a couple weeks early than it will be to keep some scrub OLB on the roster.

      • Elect A Clown. Expect A Circus

May be. But how come some WR named Alton Pig Howard signed 2 weeks ago has not been waived yet but Gentry already has been.

Smarter move would have been to keep him on 53 today and then waive him after they have claimed some other WR.

        • He’ll be waived too. These things just leak in a weird order.

Nobody is claiming him. That requires them to guarantee him 3 weeks on the 53 man roster. Why would anybody do that? Outside of one 45 yard catch when he got a running start and ran in a straight line past some scrub CB, he did nothing in preseason games.

There are better rookies who are about to be cut, including Austin Carr in NE. I hope Bears grab him, he’s more polished and ready to contribute now.

          • madscout12

My bears podcasts were split between “He’s awesome…better make the roster” and what I think is the truth which is “well, the other 31 don’t have practice tape and he hasn’t flashed a ton in the PS. Tall order to get him on their 53 with just the PS tape.”

  • Sactowns#1

TJ Ward getting released today. Should the Bears take a flyer on the pro bowler?

    • Why? They have a quality top 3 S. Demps, Jackson are a good starting pair, and Amos a solid #3 S.

Not a fan of slinging Fox bullshit, but it is true…the best ability is availability.

      • I’m hoping edge is the pick in R1 last year. Nothing young at that spot besides Floyd.

        • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

I guess one of the main advantages of having Trubisky and believing that you don’t need to address QB is that we can immediately force the focus on insane free agent signings and drafting top end trench talent to get depth.

          • regardless of whether Trubisky pans out or not, he’s going to be the guy here through at least 2019, likely 2020. Anybody drafted that high gets given plenty of chances to succeed (just see Bortles in JAX right now).

          • madscout12

The problem is they need ballers several places. WR needs one. OLB needs one. The secondary needs one.

Only OLB and secondary have someone on the roster right now who could be that guy…Floyd and Jackson. Floyd needs to stay healthy and Jackson needs to grow a pair at tackling, or become a ridic ballhawk.

Best we can hope for right now is those role guys stepping up and playing well. White needs be something…it won’t be a WR #1, but a top 20 WR #2 would be nice.

          • Wasting a 1st round pick on a WR is dumb, IMO.

Go for talent at more important positions. It’s easier to find solid WRs on day 2 than QB, edge, or OT. And WR is a position where you don’t need an absolute stud, but 3-4 solid guys with diverse skill sets can really make for a quality group.

          • madscout12

Look no further than up north. Nelson was a 2nd rounder, and they’ve been rolling with 4th RDers for YEARS. And they let them walk.

          • They consistently invest day 2 picks into skill position guys. Lacy, Jordy, Adams, Montgomery, Rodgers, Cobb, probably more I’m forgetting.

Keeps your skill position groups having depth and talent around the QB. Don’t always have a stud, but always have enough guys who can contribute in a positive way.

          • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

GB always has WR weapons. At one point they had 4 guys on the field at the same time that would have been a 1 on our team.

          • madscout12

Was that back when Roy Williams was our #1?

We had role players then…Hester would have been great if he had a package. Knox would be a great #3-4 speed guy. But no size on that team.

          • Irish Sweetness

Or did they look like #1s because of Vadgers? Adams had #1 numbers last season.

Pace has lost pretty much all good will with me on this Houston thing. It was obvious he wasn’t worth the $6 million they had to pay him under the current contract. They didn’t bother cutting him or getting him to renegotiate, and now he is headed to IR and stands to make all of that money. As it stands now the Bears will have paid him $27 million dollars which works out to $1.35 million per games played and $3 million per sack. This actually makes the deal worse than Jared Allen whom we paid ~$1 million a game and 2.9 million a sack.

I haven’t done everybody, but the only people I could find that the Bears paid more on a per game basis to over the last few years were Kevin White ($3m+ per game) and Jay Cutler Cutler (~$1.5 million).

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

What would Houston’s incentive to take an injury settlement be? He can chill on their IR this year and get his $6 million. By taking less he can get back out there and play for somebody else this year, but what is he going to make from them?

He is looking at some $2 million flier deal with incentives next year in either case.

Good lord Pace… you claim Aguayo off the waiver and then become liable for the $430k in guarantees. I know its the McCaskey’s money but how about you pretend its yours for a second because eventually you are going to want to spend it on talent.

The way Floyd has been looking you are easily going to need to pay him $12-15 million a year if he solves the concussion issue. Jeff is already wanting to hand Trubisky $25 million a year. Howard is a $6 million back. Hicks is going to want $8+ million, etc. Plus we don’t have a long term answer at RT and you are already paying McPhee and Houston lots of money not to play.

    • they had plenty of money this year, nothing wrong with taking a chance on a guy for less than 0.5% of the cap.

It’s all relative. $400K is a crazy amount of money to risk in normal life but on NFL teams it’s tip money.

          • It is 0.2% of the $167 million salary cap. Seems like a worthwhile amount to gamble on a chance you just found your kicker for the next decade.

    • madscout12

He’s practice squad eligible. He has the leg and was drafted for a reason (albeit a reach). He needs to get his head straight.

Also will be nice for Barf to know that at any point, if Aguayo is better, then he’s toast. We need a kicker who doesn’t suck this year, because we don’t have a ton of horses to get in the endzone.

Its a comedy of the absurd. Emery gambles on all these picks looking for a diamond in the rough and outsmarts himself with below average talent. Pace comes in and all his picks/decisions look reasonably solid on paper but everybody ends up hurt all the time.

I feel like there is a Karmic debt we can’t repay at this point, and I just sort of want to know what we did that was so awful.

It’s weird seeing former starters get cut from other teams.
    Ronnie Hillman
    CJ Spiller
    TIM Hightower
    Louis Murphy
……and every fucking guy we ever trotted out onto the field as a Bear while you guys were busy talking about Cutler.
Name one fucking dude that did anything of note after leaving the Bears except Brandon Crazy Ass Marshall. Coaches fucking included.

    • willbest

Super Bowl winning Shea McClellan did so well that Hoodie unloaded Collins to the Browns and he is set to be their starting Sam.

      • SC Dave

One might assume that Bill Belichick is better at evaluatjng talent than this blog, which overwhelmingly hated a gut now staeting for the Super Bowl Champions.

        • willbest

I was apprehensive of a guy as a HC. I will readily admit though that he appears to be the real deal after seeing him up close as the Bears OC, and watching him handle himself in Miami.

        • SC Dave

I answered your rabid challenge to name “one fucking guy”, and I did.

          • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

You knew what I meant. Mike Green, Al Afalava, Dom D, Ego, damn man, pick a position and I can name a fucking guy that somehow played meaningful snaps for us and shouldn’t have been in the league in a starting or even rotational role.

          • Johnnywad

            Greg Olsen

          • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

but we didn’t want him to leave and he was pushed out by an OC that couldn’t find a way to incorporate him into an offense? see what I’m saying? What’s Martz doing now?

          • Johnnywad

            I do.

But it really seems like the tide is turning to me. It’s no small task to completely rebuild a team with talent and quality depth. I think it’s happening.

          • SC Dave

I didn’t see any conditions in your question about what the blog wanted.

Besides, that is revisionist, as there were very few people here at the time that cared whether we kept “Girly Thor”.

          • CanadaBear

The point is that we play fucking scrubs and keep them around and they are not NFL talent. We failed for years to draft or bring in FA correctly and it’s evident by virtually every single guy that ever leaves the Bears either needs to retire or gets cut except for a select handful. It’s embarassing.

    More cuts

CB Banks and Webb. DL Jenkins and Wilson. WRs Braverman, Davis, Howard. LB Timu.

Meredith to IR along with Prosinski!?!?!? Good lord.

Kyle Fuller makes the 53 man roster, as does Sanchez apparently.

    • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

Keeping Kwiatkoski in front of Kelvin Sheppard and John Timu is almost enough to make me lose all faith in this coaching staff.

      • King of DBB

        Man you hate that kid

        • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

For me he embodies the missed drafts of the past decade resulting in the competitive window closing in Chicago.
He also represents the media and fans acceptance of average play and the minimal impact from it’s professional players. The fact that people aren’t screaming it from the rooftops is concerning. It’s not like the game films are locked away in geraldo’s vault. You can watch it for 20.00 a month
I’m sure he’s a nice guy but at the moment he’s making the Bears weaker and the coaches are letting it happen. If you’re going to suck at least go fucking ruin someone’s day and fucking hurt them or punch them in the mouth or something. Don’t just float around the play and let your wife take it from 3 guys in the ass while you cower in the corner.

          • SC Dave

If you’re so goddamn smart, why aren’t you running a franchise, ffs?

          • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

well, to begin with, no one asked me. But if they did ask me and they showed me various slides of the prototypical successful middle linebackers in the NFL for a flagship franchise I wouldn’t be selecting Nick Kwiatkoski….and if I did pick Nick, or Dom DiCicco or Hunter Hillenmeyer or their black counterparts in suckage I’d own up to the mistake and try to rectify it and not double the fuck down on it. Haha, he fucking sucks. I’ve watched every snap he’s been in this year. 90% of them are DOG. SHIT. Timu had more aggression and tenacity in his fucking ponytail.
My wife asked me why I have this stupid fucking NFL Gamepass and my answer was simple..”to prove that Nick Kwiatkoski is the worst linebacker on the 90 man roster this year”.

          • Irish Sweetness

            You complete me.

          • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

irish, i’m completing my betting strategy this year. It will involve betting against the Browns in a parlay with betting against the Bears because Glennon sucks penis.

I know i shouldn’t bet against the beloved but if i figure that if i win money it will take the sting out of losing and if we win and i lose money i can take solace in the Bears victory.

Please don’t think ill of me.

          • SC Dave

Obviously, the professionals disagree with you.

          • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

Execs do what they do. No one is perfect. Aguayo was signed by the same Bears brass and paid 400,000.00 to come in and embarass himself in practice.

Bears Execs also released a finally fully healthy Mike Brown and rolled with Josh Bullocks and Kevin fucking Payne at strong safety and we all know how that turned out. Brown played that entire season in KC with 103 tackles, 3 int’s some forced fumbles, etc. He wasn’t spectacular but we replaced him with bullshit players and they in fact played like bullshit.

Al Afalava and Kevin Payne were like splinters in your dick and still scar me to this day.

          • Irish Sweetness

Smart people run franchises? How many killer GMs can you name?

Hasn’t been anyone smart running the Bears in 30 years. Let’s see how we look in Pace’s third year. Right now we’re not very good at all.

        • Irish Sweetness

He is a stain on the history of Chicago Bears Linebackers. His ceiling is probably the mediocre Hillenmeyer. The last stain.

  • leftcoastdave

What is the time frame for signing off the waiver wire? I know da Bears have third shot behind Cleveland and SF. When these shaking out? When do we learn who gets added as a CB, OL or WR?

    • you have 24 hours to make waiver claims, which are announced at noon eastern tomorrow.

I doubt they add a CB. Look at the 6 they have. 5 they like + a ST they like in McManis.

      • Irish Sweetness

We need to swap Langford for a bigger body. I vote Alex Collins.

        • SC Dave

Cut Langford and get another wideout.

Ditch a TE for another OL.

        isn’t it better with 12?

        • Depends. We had 10 teams last yr, and he was cool.

          in 2QB leagues 10 is a good #.
Wouldn’t have minded 12, but GP opted out and for some reason, Irish doesn’t do auction, which is the fun part.

          • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

Irish has a deep seated mistrust and/or hatred of auction fantasy football

SAFETIES (5): Quintin Demps, Eddie Jackson, Adrian Amos, Deon Bush, Deiondre’ Hall

    • Elect A Clown. Expect A Circus

      They will likely keep 10.

One of Bush/Hall will be gone.

    • Irish Sweetness

Prince has a dodgy ankle. Heard nothing from Cooper. Demps hasn’t impressed. Amos is Amos.

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Alex Boone was released by the Vikings, I would not mind bringing him in for depth at OG or at least insurance if Long can’t make it back

    • EnderWiggin

      Money related cut?

    • Yep, I’d like to see a guy brought in for interior OL, WR, and OLB.

Something along the lines of Boone, Austin Carr, and Aaron Lynch would be nice.

      • Elect A Clown. Expect A Circus

I hope they get ex-cheese Max McCaffrey in waiver claim. He is faster Gentry and can be punt returner. More polished with 2 training camps in Green Bay.

      • SC Dave

Right positions. Ditch Langford or FB, and a TE. Who else?

  • BearDown100393

    Francois is done

  • Wow, Gentry cut. Thought he would make it.
None of the other moves really surprise, but Jaye Howard cut means we’re rather thin at Dline, unless RRH is foreals

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/09/02/jaye-howard-dan-skuta-among-bears-cuts/

    • for the last time, they are not thin at DL. They cut a couple solid options to only keep 5 because they really like the 5, and only play about 2.5 per snap.

I also wouldn’t be surprised to see Howard come back after week 1, when his salary is no longer fully guaranteed.

      • It’s not the quantity but quality.

There’s a steep talent drop after Goldman at NT.

And DE, well, it depends if you think RRH is good or not.

Maybe he is, but that’s no sure thing.

        • Elect A Clown. Expect A Circus

One of John Jenkins / CJ Wilson / Jaye Howard will be signed back after week 1 to avoid fully guaranteed money for veterans.

They can do fine with Goldman or Hicks at NT for 1 week.

      • leftcoastdave

        J. Bullard and RRH were monsters in preseason. They have a great future and the D line is second only to RB position in talent.

  • Irish Sweetness

Harold Jones-Quartey and DeAndre Houston-Carson … gone. Excellent. Happy to finally see that.

    2. 5 receivers ?!! We need Tanner or Victor going into this season. That’s BS. At some point we’ll have to sign another receiver and they won’t know the playbook. Bull. Shit. They keep 5 TEs!!

    Interesting FAs:

    QB Joe Webb!
    QB DAVID FALES!!!!!!!!
    FB (Pats) Glenn Gronkowski(?)
LB (Pats) Christian Kuntz!!! You couldn’t make it up!!
    CB (SEA) Mike Tyson!!
RB Alex Collins (SEA) caught my eye in PS to where I stashed him on some FF teams. More of a Cohen/Cunningham type though. Excellent in the passing game. But Walter-sized.
RB Troymaine Pope of IND also caught my eye. Passing downs.
    Safety TJ Ward(?) 2xPB
    RB Stevan Ridley. A banger.
LB Scooby Wright (ARI) – I just want an LB called Scooby.

BTW – Detroit waived new QB draft pick Brad Kaaya!! Ego Ferguson cut by Detroit also.
    .

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

If Gentry makes it through waver he will be on our practice team.

    • willbest

Wow, I liked Kaaya as a good second round pick after getting Thomas in #1. Way off the mark on him on him I was

      • leftcoastdave

        Kaaya to 9ers?

    • SC Dave

There will be more changes. I’ll reserve judgment until they are done

  • leftcoastdave

Fun reading the “woulda, coulda, shoulda” columns on the cuts. I could be wrong, but it looks like the strategy is to keep trying to trade Braunecker and Langford (as examples) or waiting to waive them after seeing what is available to add from other teams off the wire. Fun how they put a few others like Hall on the injury list to see what develops. The practice squad looks to have some nice developing talent this year, hopefully to include Tanner Gentry.

    • Irish Sweetness

Langford is gone, finally. Looks like we might be picking up a back!

    • Irish Sweetness

      Strange dude. He’s back, I see ….

  • Elect A Clown. Expect A Circus

This might be the reason Bears thought Howard / Jenkins / Wilson were expendable — Quintan Dial.

He is just 27, no injury, knows Fangio scheme. Niners cut him because they are running 4-3 now. Dial is can play both NT and 5T.

I would be surprised if Bears don’t add him in the next few days.
