DaBearsPod Week 7: Featuring Scott Fowler of the Charlotte Observer [AUDIO]

| October 20th, 2017

On this week’s episode:

  • I take on the anthem protests for the first time in the opening monologue. If you don’t like it, I don’t care.
  • Scott Fowler of the Charlotte Observer talks the Greg Olsen trade, Cam Newton’s “likability”, Chico Rivera’s standing with the organization and why he questioned Mitch Trubisky coming into the draft…and still does. (Scott did the spot from his car so you might wanna turn the volume up a notch or two during this passage of the pod.)
  • Reverend Dave has a ghost issue in East Africa.
  • Music from Tom Petty & Ray Parker Jr.

Without getting into the reasn why the players are protesting Jeff you really highlighted the faults in the anthem protesters reasoning.

MT10 seems to be a QB who thrives under the brightest of lights.

Fox is haunted by the specter of a QB who can’t throw more than 10 yards….truest statement about Foxy in a long while.

  • SC Dave

4:10 to skip the sanctimonious diatribe from someone who “doesn’t give a shit”

    • Sactowns#1

Awe… did he offend your delicate sensibilities?

      • SC Dave

No, because unlike Jeff, I *truly don’t* give a shit.

    • Didn’t go well with your freedom fries, SC!?

      haha

      Merica.

      • SC Dave

Can they be Freedom Fries if:
        1) they are made with sweet potatoes; and
        2) I eat them with avocado oil mayo instead of catsup?

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

          What is wrong with you?

  • Irish Sweetness

    I’ll skip the Panthers-related podcast …..

    Go Biscuit. Go Bears.

(Wasn’t William Perry called Biscuit too?, as in ” a biscuit shy of 300…”?)

    • CanadaBear

The only time Fridge was under 300 lbs was before he was a Chicago Bear. They listed him at 308 when he signed and I’m guessing they were being kind by at least 25 lbs. At some point Fridge was upwards of 400 lbs with the Beloved.

      • Irish Sweetness

It was probably a biscuit under 400. I was being kind to William.

Mitch is called Mr. Biscuit because some girl tried to say his name once and it came out like ‘Mister Biscuit’.

  • EnderWiggin

I think this may be the version of ‘Bustin’ that the Rev and Blogfather used in this episode – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0tdyU_gW6WE

    BustinBustinBustinBustinBustinBustinBustinBustinBustinBustinBustinBustinBustinBustinBustinBustin makes me feel good!

  • CanadaBear

Dave and I were the most upset when Olsen was traded. Lots of guys on here made fun of him relentlessly (Girly Thor, anyone?) because he went down easily and his blocking was so-so. After all these years it’s pretty obvious The Bears totally fucked up that trade. Getting a 3rd rounder that would be turned into nada. Signing ManofMoolah … say no more! Fucking Martz. I hated him more because of this than any of the calls that got Cutler smoked.

    • SC Dave

Consider also the likelihood that Jay would have been able to avoid at least a few of those sacks by having his safety blanket TE to whom to throw the ball.

      • Irish Sweetness

Couldn’t break a tackle, that was the etymology of Girly Thor. 0.7 YAC on average. That meant he COULDN’T EVEN FALL A YARD after a corner hit him.

        • SC Dave

Says the guy who loved Jeremy Langford

      • Bender McLugh

Does Olin fall into that time span?

    • Bender McLugh

I was in that boat of being pissed too, really dumb move

    • beninnorcal

I was a big fan. He was a damn good tight end imo.

    • BerwynBomber

Who pulled the trigger on that move?

      • CanadaBear

JA but everything I read it was at Martz’s request. Same with manofmoolah.

    • AlbertInTucson

I was just as upset, thank you.

    • Irish Sweetness

What had he done to warrant more than a 3rd? Please tell. Re-invent history if you want C-Bear, but I remenber all the stats. He appeared on the stat sheet 1 out of every 3 games. His YAC at one point was 0.7 yards!!!

Greg Olsen not being on this team has meant zero to us. A tight end? We have Zack Miller. They don’t want to throw it to him because we’re the only team in the NFL not interested in the vertical passing game or any aspect pertaining to it therein. Olsen is all Cam has.

Looking back now is 20/20. We don’t use TEs. I could give a fuck about Greg Olsen.

      • BerwynBomber

I also get damn tired of the Martz traded Olsen canard.

        • CanadaBear

Why? It was totally on him and he recommended signing ManofMoolah.

          • BerwynBomber

Because making the recommendation is a whole different thing than making the final decision.

            #BuckStopsHere

          • CanadaBear

True enough but the trade never would have happened if Martz wasn’t lobbying for it. Same with signing ManofMoolah.

      • CanadaBear

You mean he had 3 last year. With the Bears he had 20 TD’s in 4 years. Here’s his stats. Cherry pick away. BTW you are absolutely the last person on earth I would ask about WR’s and TE’s.

        http://www.nfl.com/player/gregolsen/2495700/profile

      • SC Dave

We get that you hate you were wrong him.

  • Bender McLugh

Scott Fowler really doesn’t like Trubisky.

    • BerwynBomber

I had to cut it short but did he offer anything beyond the “he didn’t win enough big games” remark?

Btw, his opinion sounded less than scathing. Just sounded like … well, an opinion, albeit a pessimistic/doubtful one.

      • Bender McLugh

not really, just that he “didn’t win enough games” in college. Jeff makes a great point about the team around him wasn’t very good, but apparently Fowler thought the team WAS good.

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

didn’t win enough games… He didn’t play enough games.

          • Bear Instincts

the guy he sat behind for a year will be out the league next year while MT10 is leading his team into the NFCC and beyond

        • SC Dave

I suspect that Fowler, being in NC and covering that team regularly, probably has a better idea of the caliber of MT’s teammates than most people in New Jersey.

          • Bender McLugh

While that is definitely true, his assessment is lame. Didn’t do enough? Sounds like a jilted lover

      • CanadaBear

That was his only real complaint that he didn’t win enough (come up big in big games).

    • Considering I never heard of the guy

      Doooooon’t carreee

    • Bear Instincts

His way of evaluation a QB is that they are supposed to carry the team, step up to the plate and win the big games regardless of what the situation around them is. With that train of thought I see him liking Watson as his #1 QB because he fits the mold. However some QB’s need the right circumstances to shine. Lets hope Pace gives MT10 the right environment to grow.

  • Cooper
    • CanadaBear

If he really is in a snit because the female reporter was present, he is indeed a bitch. FFS he said something stupid and had to apologize. If that’s a big deal to him he really needs to grow up. I thought he was getting better about being so immature. Guess not.

      • Cooper

No, he’s the Eddie Murphy of NFL QBs.

Charisma to spare but the thinnest skin imaginable.

  • CanadaBear

Jeff twatted about the NFL doing PPV/game in the future. They had that up here until about 4 years ago. It was great. $10/game. I’m sure he’s correct that if they do this it will hurt the bars. Oh well.

    • EnderWiggin

Screw them bars! I’d love to be able to buy a HQ stream every weekend. Split the cost with a few family members and we’d be set.

      • Irish Sweetness

I think HeHe streams is like a hundred bucks? Actually there’s no fixed charge, you make a payment and it gets accepted or rejected. Pirated, but HD, and can be streamed any time.

        • Bender McLugh

hmm never heard of that, I’ll have to check it out

  • BerwynBomber

“DaBearsBlog @dabearsblog I spend much time in sports bars. NFL viewership in bars w/o specific team alliance has been PLUMMETING for 5 years. One reason: digital.”

I wonder too if millenials are as passionate about the game as previous generations. Forget organized ball for a second. Do kids even play sandlot games anymore? Hell, I remember playing every Saturday morning (and some Sundays too) during the school year. And of course playing pick-up games of tackle after school as well. Do many kids do that anymore? I’m not sure.

They have other sports. Like the X Games stuff. Or even soccer. And yes video games.

The NFL is still king but its per capita popularity will probably never be what it once was. But that’s fine too, so long as Goodell and company don’t overreact.

    • CanadaBear

Lots more things to do for kids these days. Not to mention, when I was a kid it seemed like there were about 50 kids within a few blocks. I don’t think that’s the case anymore. We played pickup baseball and football all the time. If you were in the house and adults were home, they were putting you to work (and it didn’t make any difference whose house, everybody’s parents were happy to put you to work). Because of that we were almost always outside.

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

but when you were a kid you could take your horse to a watering hole 10 miles away for a swim. Now kids can’t cross the street without parents freaking out.

        • CanadaBear

Ain’t that the truth! My mother loved to tell the story about me when I was under 5 years old and I knew all the old ladies within about 3 blocks. I would mooch cookies from them! Apparently an old lady that my mother didn’t know called and asked it it was OK that I was at her house. I still love cookies!

“When the theme song of Ghostbusters was released, Huey Lewis sued Ray Parker Jr. for plagiarism, stating that Parker’s song was too similar to Lewis’ “I Want a New Drug”. Lewis had been approached to compose the main theme song for the film, but had to decline because of his work on the soundtrack for Back to the Future.[4][5] The two parties settled out of court. Details of the settlement (specifically, that Columbia Pictures paid Lewis a settlement) remained confidential until 2001, when Lewis commented on the payment in an episode of VH1’s Behind the Music. Parker subsequently sued Lewis for breaching confidentiality.” – Wikipedia

Next week on ‘Things that happened a long time ago that affect only two people’ …… Troy McLure investigates Mary & Joseph in the paternity Episode “I’ll believe you, but thousands wouldn’t!”

    • CanadaBear

Not a fan of either song.

      • Bender McLugh

        whaaaaat?!??!

        Dead to me.

        • CanadaBear

Can’t like everything. Huey Lewis was so insanely popular when Sports came out I was sick of him + I never liked the song. Ghostbusters? Didn’t like the movie much so that didn’t help any.

          • Bender McLugh

yeah I hear ya, if the movie didn’t do anything for ya then the song wouldn’t either.

          • CanadaBear

Stevie Ray Vaughan was opening up for Huey Lewis back in the ’80’s so I did see Huey live. They were actually really good. The News was a kick ass band. Although my favorite part of the night was when SRV played Voodoo Chile and threw the guitar behind his back and played that way for a minute or so. All the young people there to see Huey were stunned. Don’t think they really liked it but they sure knew that guy could play!

          • SC Dave

SRV is near the top of my list of people I wanted to, but didn’t/haven’t seen.

          • CanadaBear

Got to see him twice in fairly small venues. The second time Johnny Copeland opened for SRV. Now THAT was a show!

          • Cooper

SRV was at Alpine Valley in Wisconsin with Clapton and Robert Cray.

Cray stepped on the helicopter and SRV asked if he could take his place as he had somewhere to be. Cray stepped aside and then, as we know, it crashed.

          • Cooper

            Hmmm… according to the Wiki… it was not Cray but Clapton’s posse in the seats who stood down;

Bobby Brooks, bodyguard Nigel Browne, and assistant tour manager Colin Smythe

          • CanadaBear

Yeah, I never heard the story with Cray’s name attached. It’s not unlike The Big Bopper taking Waylon Jennings seat on that fateful flight from Clear Lake, IA. Waylon played in Buddy Holly’s band.

          • Bender McLugh

Hell yeah Stevie Ray, we’re you at that Nashville show? Never saw him and really regret that cause I had my chances.

          • CanadaBear

Don’t know anything about the Nashville show. I saw him twice in Iowa. Once in a venue that held about 2,000 and another time in a dance hall that held about 1,500. He did a live outdoor show in town opening for the Allman Bros. I lived about 2 miles from the venue (both were right on the Mississippi River) and I could clearly hear every song before I had to go to work. I’m guessing there were some noise complaints during that show.

          • Sactowns#1

Didn’t like the movie much?!?! WHAT!!???!!? Probably one of the greatest comedies to ever be made with some of the greatest comedians to ever live. Sorry it wasn’t Dave Broadfoot and Alan Thicke.

          • CanadaBear

If a comedy doesn’t make you laugh it’s not good for much else. I didn’t laugh once during that movie. Different strokes. Trying to insinuate I didn’t like it because there weren’t Canadians in it is beyond weak.

          • Sactowns#1

Dan Akroyd will be interested to hear that he’s not Canadian. Oh and isn’t Rick Moranis? See, now you have to like it.

      • Who you gonna call!?

        • CanadaBear

Depends what I”m looking for! Since I didn’t really like the original was the all-girl remake hideous? I never heard anything about that.

Kuechly ruled out vs. Bears with concussion

    • Good all around.
Howard rumbling at him with his 230 pounds would not end well for him.

      • SC Dave

Agreed. Good for Luke. Better for us.

  • Quick notes on the podcast.

    1. NO ONE liked trading Olsen for a bag o chips.

This was one of those ‘WTF?’ moves that Bears make all too often (releasing Slausen, etc)

Everyone knew it was cuz Martz was a stubborn ass who somehow wanted to prove that he could win with out TEs even though Olsen was by far the best receiver at the time. That 3rd ended up getting paired with another 3rd for Bmarsh, which is little comfort.

That being said, he IS Girly Thor. The next tackle he breaks will be the first.

But hey, maybe being knocked over by a stiff wind is the way to go.

Survey the most physical TEs. Gronk. Kelce. Eifert. Jordan Reed.

Any commonalities there? Yup. ALWAYS inj. Taking on LBs and S take its toll.

Better for your health to let a tiny CB take you down immediately.

    2. Anthem protest.

I think they’ve run their course. Originally meant to draw attention to the social inequities of af ams, and specifically, getting shot by the po-po for no reason. Think it’s more than done that. In fact, Kap is the Watt for the cause. Started off as something small, but blew up way more than anyone expected, ironically fanned by the flames of blow hard draft dodging conservatives.

I mentioned this b4, but I also asked my Marine friend who did tours in Afghanistan if he cared and he almost said the same exact thing “Who gives a shit?”

So, they made their point, drew attention to their cause, but like “who let the dogs out” has sorta run its course.

THAT BEING SAID…if a cop pulls over an af am for having a big nose then proceeds to murder him…then yeah, they can kneel again.

If you think YOU’RE tired of seeing them kneel, I’m sure they’re just as tired of being shot in the face.

    3. An “underrated NFL MVP”?

Lol. Yeah. I can’t think of another ILB who gets as much praise.

    4. Mtich top 20.

Agree with Jeff. We just had a 20ish QB. NO THANKS to another decade of mediocrity/suckage.

Pace traded up to #2 for a top 10-5 QB. Anything less should be viewed as a failure.

High-risk. High-reward. But as Pace himself said, gotta be bold.

    Fortuna audaces iuvat

    5. Don’t care about Petty dead or alive. However, Ghostbusters! Ghostbusters 2 better than the original? Like the Godfather 2, quite possibly.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHv9r28DTUE

    • Bear Instincts

It has not run it course and never will because popo will continue to murder am and say they feared for their lives even when the am if running away. Every should get the benefit of the doubt popo and am but all too often the popo gets the benefit of the doubt while the am gets asked what did you do to deserve what happened to you.

      • The thing is you can only draw attention to ANY cause for so long.

After a while, for better or worse, the American Public moves on, esp in this 24 hr news cycle and twitter generation.

It would be like wearing pink year round to promote breast cancer awareness.

Noble cause no doubt, but after a while, it just gets played out for the general public.

        • Bear Instincts

That is the problem. The fact that the American Public will sweep this under the rug like its just a passing fad. However if it was the popo being retaliated against like this it would be on a national crisis on every channel. Every politician would be talking about it. When its a minority issues it’s swept away because its too uncomfortable to deal with.

    • BerwynBomber

I ultimately put it more on Angelo than Martz. But yes Martz was one of those limited genius guys who can’t adapt their system. And to Angelo’s semi-credit he later admitted he fucked up and the trade was on him.

Didn’t know if Eifert was known for being physical, but point taken.

I almost wonder if TE will become a devalued position like RB because of said injuries. Seems like the best way to approach it is get your Olsen Jr. guy and pair him with a solid blocking TE and then get a third string guy to fill out the depth chart.

      • Bear Instincts

Does Pace have final say over the roster or does Fox? What would we say if Fox wanted to get rid of one of our TE’s?

        • BerwynBomber

Well, Martz was only an OC. Fox, OTOH, is the HC.

But yeah lots of speculation regarding who had ultimate authority. Seemed like it started as Fox but is morphing into Pace. Can’t imagine Fox’s record has strengthened his power grip.

          • Bear Instincts

The blame is on JA and LS. JA because he approved the trade and LS because he let his OC talk him into it

          • BerwynBomber

That’s always been my take too. Martz obviously had strong, strict views and he couldn’t ultimately adapt.

But yeah more on the HC and especially the GM if we are passing out ultimate blame on the trade. Especially when Martz didn’t even last two years. Doesn’t exactly scream entrenched authority.

          • Bear Instincts

This whole scenarios is why I don’t want Sean Peyton coaching the Bears. LS was DC with the Rams when MM was the HC. So LS does him a favor by hiring him as OC now that he is the HC. Very very very bad. Plus it also shows how little LS knew or cared about the offense when he just handed it off to MM and said do as you please. He could not see the value of GO. Very sad day in Bears history.

          • BerwynBomber

I get you about Payton but in regard to Martz he is at worst a mixed bag. Look at the history of our other OCs since the merger/start of the modern era.

Martz had a fatal flaw — couldn’t adapt (and he was weird) — but he was also the architect of the Greatest Show on Turf. And a guy like Gase was one of his later students.

          • Bear Instincts

What have you done for me lately? That’s how I look at any HC/DC/OC given that they have some tools to works with . As we all know MM could not adapt. That is not an excuse. What if a MT10 (Papa Bear forgive) could not adapt to the NFL? He would be gone. The WR’s if we had any would not be the ones traded way. They wold stay and we wold find a new QB. MM should have been tossed to the curb like trash on pickup morning. A good HC/DC/OC adapts their game to the players they have.

          • BerwynBomber

Huh? MM was gone. He didn’t even last two seasons. And again, he was the chief architect behind one of the most record-setting O’s the league has ever seen, which resulted in two SB appearances and one SB.

In Chicago he was a mixed bag but arguably better than the majority of our other OCs.

          • CanadaBear

Martz’s system worked with great players. In Chicago, not so much. The guy that followed him in Chicago was much worse.

          • It’s def Pace who has finally say of roster.

I’m sure he gets input like all GMs, but it’s his show, no doubt. Fox is just going along for the ride.

      • Cooper

The trade happened because the Bears wanted Chris Harris back. That is who they traded for.

Harris had one last decent season in him and then he was shot.

Olsen, as we know, had a decade of solid play left.

It was classic Halas Hall shortsightedness.

    • SC Dave

How many Greg Olsen games have you watched over the past seven years, Butch?

      • I’ve watched a lot of his games on the Panthers, and all of his games on the Bears.

No one is going to convince me he’s physical.

Like Forte, he does a lot of other things well, but he’s not trucking or stiff arming ppl to the ground.

He’s basically a possession TE with some speed and questionable blocking (though maybe he improved on the latter in CAR)

    • A7Xthebest

lol. You’re either extremely ignorant about crime statistics or deliberately disingenuous.

You are more likely to be killed by lightening than be a black unarmed person killed by the police. Like, get a fucking grip on reality.

      • CanadaBear

I’m sure that’s a lot of comfort to the families that have had a loved ones killed by the cops.

  • AlbertInTucson

DBB: “Mixed feelings on this whole Kuechly.”

So, looks like Keuchly is a “No go”, but Chico expects Benjamin to play.

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/10/20/luke-kuechly-out-kelvin-benjamin-expected-to-play/

    • Sactowns#1

How could luke possibly play? He got rocked and you could tell when he got up he didn’t know what day of the week it was. You play a week after that hit and you’re headed to junior Seau land.

      • AlbertInTucson

How could Adams have played? HE got taken off on a cart.

    • Bear Instincts

One hit from Eddie Jackson will change Benjamins playing status. Just ask

Breshad Perriman who is still in concussion protocol since Sundays win.

      • SC Dave

        Breshad Perriman; 6’2″, 214lb
        Kelvin Benjamin; 6’5″, 240lb

        Not the same receiver

        • Bear Instincts

With his injury he might as well be 6’2″, 214lb. He coming into the game essentially on one leg. Now wishing injury on him but hes been softened up already. He might not be able to take too many more high impact hits

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Hell I am rooting for him to get knocked out of the game!

    • AlbertInTucson

Their starting center, Matt Kalil also still a question mark.

      • That would be a bigger blow IMO.

If Goldman and HIcks can penetrate without help, it’s gonna be a long day for Cam.

  • Cooper

    The Canadabear simulator:

I ask my son what everyone’s favorite video game is in his high school class. He says it is “My Summer Car.”

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8LlAzaPufM

    What is My Summer Car?

It’s a video game where you play a piss trunk hick living in Finland. You can drink, drive, drink & drive, piss on things, overdose on Adderall, use farm equipment, avoid the cops, steal for money and food and generally just drive all the fuck over Finland.

That’s it. That’s the whole game.

It doesn’t really have a point, and there is no real way to win outside of not ending up in jail. Death is permanent in the game and you have to start over.

It’s the most fucked up thing

    • CanadaBear

Not sure how I got dragged into that one.

      • Cooper

I always figured living in mid-Canada was exactly like living in Finland.

        • CanadaBear

You should come out to Vancouver Island May-September. You would be pleasantly surprised. Do not come out mid Oct-Feb unless you like rain, A LOT. Not that I’ve ever been to Finland!

    • Bender McLugh

      That.sounds.AWESOME.

  • Cooper
    • I never bought one issue in my life, but if I did, I probably would not buy that issue.

It’s a slippery slope. Most who buy Playboy are straight males.

Men who like transgender chicks is more fetish, imo.

It’s like men only digging amputees, hermaphrodites, 6 foot giants, midgets, pregos, 38EE bonkers, etc…

It’s only a very small sub-segment of the population that have their own niche magazines.

I have nothing against it, but would def skip that issue.

      It’s smart by Playboy though.

Print is dying, and causing a lil stir is good business.

Here is another super fucked up Friday thing: ASMR

    Do you know about this?

    https://go.twitch.tv/zuahen

So these Chinese and Japanese chicks webcam ALL THE FUCKING TIME. Like 24/7. And they do ASMR.

    ASMR: autonomous sensory meridian response

What does that mean? I mean it SOUNDS LIKE BULLSHIT right?

    It’s a thing: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autonomous_sensory_meridian_response

So as far as I can tell, these chicks who seem self-selected for looking as MUCH like anime women as possible, they get this mic that looks like Mickey Mouse ears glued to a box. It’s a left and right channel thing.

They just take STUFF. Like pencils, hair, nails, and they just scratch the mic or make noise. Or blow into the microphone. To make “music” (stupid noises) that affects people at some biological level.

This is in my Top 5 most fucked up things the internet has wrought.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

If that is in the Top 5, you really need to spend more time searching the dark corners of the internet.

    • I gotta admit, it worked!
The sound in itself (without the girl) was relaxing.

I dunno how this is any different than those new age CDs with whales and Anduvian flutes, but the sound is surprisingly subtly euphoric.

      Nuts.

      ClockWork Orange porn.

      • Cooper

I specifically felt my lower back super relax as if I took oxy or something

        GTFO.

        • Yeah, I couldn’t believe it either cuz I was reading that link and it said it starts from ur brain and tingles down.

But then I saw the description on the side which said it can effect your lower back.

That’s what it felt like for me. Like if I took oxy (without the high), or after a good massage.

Nothing intense, but like it described, a “subtle euphoria” –

Or kinda like how your muscles relax with good weed. Kinda trippy.

There was nothing sexual about it though, which according to the article, is like a subcategory of ASMR.

I would actually suggest it for ppl with lower back problems or high stress.

Might not work on on biologies, but can for some and much cheaper and safer than oxy or whatever else.

When I first clicked on that link I was like “WTF are these crazy asians doing now” but to my surprise, the sound really relaxed me. (specifically on the sides of my lower back, not spine directly.)

          Trippy.

    • Bender McLugh

Vice News did a piece on thus the other night. These women make BANK doing this, apparently cause porn sites are illegal & blocked so this is their spank bank. Literally

  • BerwynBomber

Wondered about this the night it happened. Turns out it was an NFL record in regard to the discrepancy. League claims everything was on the up-and-up. Seemed like a whole lot of home-cooking if nothing else.

I think Romo said “looks like he got away with one there” 3-4 times with respects to a Panther player. And if I am remembering correctly he considered one of the penalties against the eagles to be ticky tack

      • BerwynBomber

It’s just an enormous penalty discrepancy. 10 to 1? Wow!

    • CanadaBear

I think the crappy teams get an inordinate amount of penalties called on them and vice versa. Some of it is because the shitty teams commit more penalties but not all of it.

The full one, or the one where he can come back in 8 weeks?

      • BerwynBomber

8 weeks is mentioned in the article. Btw, do teams have to clarify that up front? I didn’t know they did. Just thought they were limited to bringing two players back after 8.

        • willbest

I don’t know. I thought they had to designate the player to return, and people talked about whether or not they wanted to use that on Carey. But perhaps when they expanded it to 2 people they just said 8 weeks.

I don’t remember if he had surgery either. They might have just immobilize it.

Back to the IR list. The NFL should probably consider moving to a disabled list. And then make it 4 games or 8 games, where the play can be renewed. I also think this would prevent teams from stashing rookies with a bruised rib on their IR for a year because they can’t fit him on the roster, because the player will then be medically cleared to play.

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Last year, the NFL changed the IR with return designation so that you no longer have to designate the player who will get the designation at the time they are placed on the list. Now, teams can bring back any two players they’ve placed on IR at any time after the eight week mandate to be on the list has been met.

Previously, if a team wanted to use the one return designation spot, they had to declare it when the player was placed on IR. Now, they can just see who is getting healthy quickly, and take them off IR after they’ve been on the list for eight weeks (or more).

          • AlbertInTucson

            Thank you for that clarification.

          • BerwynBomber

Funny, after Will replied to me I was going to say maybe HBP might know. He is often on top of those things. So there you go.

In terms of Will’s question about Rodgers, nope he did not require surgery in 2013. And again, throwing shoulder this time, which must complicate things substantially.

My bet is it is another year of the Cheese wasting Rodgers. My prediction is MIN wins the division at 10-6 if Zimmer can manage his little QB controversy which will soon be brewing.

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Funny how easy it is to find stuff out. There is this website out there called google.com It is seriously amazing, you just type things into it like “nfl ir rules” and it gives you the answers.

          • BerwynBomber

            Smartass.

            Sorry, I can’t help it.

Things I want to see this week.

    1) I want to see Trubisky surpass Glennon on yards per attempt. He is currently losing 5.9 to 6
    2) I want to see Wright on the field for 95% of the offensive snaps (he can come off if he is gassed)
    3) No fuck ups on ST. You don’t have to do anything well. Just don’t make me hate you
    4) 3 sacks, and an INT from the Defense.
    5) A pass from the 3 TE set
    6) A run from shotgun.
    7) Bears win

  • BuddhaJoe

So my friends banded together and got us tix for the Bears/Lions game on Nov. 19. First live game for both of us so we’re excited. What I want to know is what Brookfield Zoo is like around that time. Haven’t been there in years but I loved it, but I’m not sure if it is worth going at that time. Any thoughts? My wife really wants to see it.

    • Bender McLugh

Decent zoo in the early 2000s when I went, but the chimpanzee house was seriously depressing. There also used to be a rookery near Fullerton & Lake Shore a few blocks away from the zoo that was really cool, ya know, if you’re into birds.

    • CanadaBear

Back in the day I used to go to the Lincoln Park Zoo. Fairly small footprint and super convenient. Not sure what it’s like now.

  • Bender McLugh

Grasu questionable. I’m really not sure if him back at center upgrades the line. It should

    • EnderWiggin

Grasu is a downgrade. Whitehair may snap all over the place, but at least he can block.

  • BuddhaJoe

Wheaton is out. We paid him how much for what, two catches?

    • AlbertInTucson

When you find out how to predict injuries, let me know.

I mean, did Wheaton have a history that made him the Chris Chandler of wide receivers and a risky signing?

  • AlbertInTucson

I believe Marshawn Lynch got an entra week off for manhandling that zebra.

Didn’t look like the Raiders missed him very much after he was excused.
