Chicago’s Mood When It Comes to the Bears: Eh.

| March 26th, 2017

I sat on what’s probably my favorite bar stool in the world, back to the wall of Wise Guy’s Corner in the World-Famous Billy Goat Tavern. In this hallowed drinking alcove were my friends Brian, long-time member of the Josie Woods mafia, and Rick, the Trib’s chief political reporter. We talked about stuff – Illinois state budget insanity, Trump, self-driving cars and their impact on the American workforce…etc. – and then the conversation switched over to the Bears.

And then it ended.

There’s nothing to talk about.

Not living in Chicago, I can really only take the pulse of the town when I’m here for short bursts. And in December, the number of “Bears tourists” can mask the city’s prevailing winds. These are people who don’t live in the city but travel here, maybe from downstate, maybe from Indiana, maybe from Queens New York, to see the Bears because they love the Bears despite their record. They wear Bears hats and jackets. They go to the bars and want to talk about the Bears and very little else.

And they’re not here in March. My Bears hat is one of about eleven I’ve seen since last Wednesday. People are asking me for directions on the street because, hey, if I’m still wearing a Bears hat I have to be from here.

Jerry had a mane of white hair and nursed a mug of Schlitz at the Goat for the better part of 20 minutes before finally speaking to me.

“What do you think of the Bears?”

What did he do next?

He laughed. Didn’t even wait for me to respond. Just laughed.

This town is not bracing for the worst. They believe the Bears have already begun their descent into the toilet. They didn’t see anything to be optimistic about in 2016 and don’t see any reason for optimism with the current make-up of the roster. Especially when it comes to the guy throwing passes.

“What if they take a quarterback early in the draft?” I asked Jerry.

“Their draft choices never work out.”

Who was I to argue? It was going to take more than one great draft class to convince Jerry of anything. And if the Bears want to keep Jerry watching on Sundays, they better start winning football games.

Hell, forget about getting Jerry to watch. That seems like a Pizano’s deep dish pie in the sky. Just get him to stop laughing.

          Siiiiiiiiiiiighhhhhh

  • Joecashflow

Seriously, we’re looking at a waffle that hasn’t been flipped yet. I’m waiting until the draft to be excited or depressed. It’s at best, an 8-8 rebuild anyway. Rome was not built in a day.

    • MB30SD

Was that a slight aimed at waffle?!?

Yep, agree… Which is why the kerfuffle over the HAVING TO HAVE a great QB thing THIS YEAR still baffles me.

It won’t matter this year, we’re not going to the super bowl, fix the D, plug some gaps, get your guy next year. Smh

      • leftcoast dave

Yea, that’s it. Throw valuable draft capital at a high risk option at three and hope for the best.
I’m with you, build the team. Let a Dak step into O with all the right tools.

        • MB30SD

          Jes

      • Ososfan

The problem is, ALOT of bears fans don’t want to wait, don’t understand we had no talent before Pace came and had 7+ years of horrible drafting that had our team without much depth… I’ll be patient one more year as we all should, I believe…

        • MB30SD

Yeah, I’m just tired of the ineptitude up top Oso. That’s what really gets me, that Ted can publicly say the org doesn’t care about winning and then… Nothing. I was at the very least expecting George to come out and say that’s not what he meant, of course we live and die for wins etc… Etc… But nothing.

Just the hard cold truth that teddy was 100% right. I’m a pace fan so far, I just think he has an uphill battle with owners that constantly hurt instead of help out chances

  • King of DBB

Sell the fucking team McCaskey inbreds. All you spoiled children take your cut and leave the sport.

Your grand pappy, when he sees you on the other side, he’s going to refuse to talk you anyway because you are such fucking brats. So just do it

    • MB30SD

Just read it and it’s sadly very spot on.

They’re about to lose me. I’m teetering man. Fuck these inept cunts, who publicly don’t fucking care about winning. Then why should I care about them?

Until they start caring, we will continue to morph into the browns.

      • MB30SD

Oh, and I hope their grandpappy smacks the shit outta each one of these blueblood pussies BEFORE never talking to them again

        • Bill

          Move along. Character counts:)

          • leftcoast dave

            Isn’t that “charicature” counts? 🙂

      • Joecashflow

Wait wait wait, at least until May 1. Let’s see what happens.

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

        seeya.

      • Bill

When we talk with language like that, the Bears or anyone else for that matter, could care less if you leave. Don’t let the door hit ya!

        • MB30SD

Two nameless posts two down votes.

You’re better than this Trac. No?

    • Bill

Melania, thank you for showing your lack of character with such garbage language. Why would you show such lack of character? The Bears could care less if they lose fans who can’t control there language.

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Is this Ted P. or George M.?

      • MB30SD

        Blocked

The state budget makes perfect sense when you realize that through gerrymandering the state has given the city of Chicago and its unions an outsized vote in state politics. The result has been a lot of kick the can promises to buy votes. Well the check is coming due and the two options are default (which would be the sane approach) or economically crippling taxes.

Self driving cars are the most visible aspect of the overall automation movement. Its also more ambitious because the easiest things to automate are standardized operations in a controlled environment. For example we will replace lawyers before we replace roofers

As for the Bears, I think the indifference is the result of having the Blackhawks and Cubs. If all of Chicago sports were shitty there would be a lot more panic

    • Joecashflow

I left Illinois because of crippling taxes. Remember 2% state income tax? What is it now 5%, 6% ? The state that first brought you consecutive “lock em up” Governors. It can get worse? That’s scary.

      • leftcoast dave

I rented a car at ORD for a Christmas visit to my brother. The tax was 33% or some similarly ridiculous amount. No more ORD and if I have no choice, the next time I Uber out of there to where I can rent a car cheaper and say “up yours” to the tax machine.

That in a city where airborne lead poisoning is the highest in the nation.

        Go figger’.

        • CanadaBear

Use hotwire to rent a car in Chicago. The airport shuttle will take you off site a couple of miles to get the car. I usually use hotwire for a room, too. Usually within a couple of miles of O’Hare and the room is under $80 for a nice room. Cars are relatively cheap as long as you don’t get their insurance.

          • leftcoast dave

Thank you. After being fleeced (and burning over it at the time), I won’t get fooled again.

          • Irish Sweetness

I thought you were going to suggest rubbing ignition wires against one another in an attempt to start a ‘borrowed’ vehicle.

          • CanadaBear

I can barely start one with a key!

        • BerwynBomber

Never rent a car at an airport if it can be avoided. That’s true of all cities.

          • DaMurph

Way cheaper to rent at the airport in Hawaii is than in Waikii.

      • willbest

Its 3.75%, but its the 9-11% sales tax, and the fees on everything, and the over 2% property tax. Most people in the state pay more to IL than they do to the Fed Gov

      • MB30SD

Hahahahahaha… Come live in Cali dude

        • leftcoast dave

Dude, I’m in Kaly phone ya. Where Moonbeam wants to spend 100Billion on a choo-choo train while reservoirs threaten collapse and homeless people live in little “Obamavilles” on the streets of LA.

  • Joecashflow

This is a Cutler free Zone. We actually have a chance for first time in 9 years to like our team, right? No great expectations. Bear down Bears !

    • MB30SD

That I totally agree is a very nice change of pace (get it?)

    • BearDown100393

      “No Great Expectations”
      The McCaskey Era

  • BerwynBomber

The Bears have been dogshit for three straight seasons. Shouldn’t be any surprise that a city would turn its attention to its dynastic hockey team, which is getting ready to pursue another Cup, and its defending world champion Cubs, who begin their regular season in a week or two.

The only Bears story that would have been capable of sustaining the masses over the long off-season would have been an overall #1 and a guy like Andrew Luck awaiting selection. Otherwise, the masses won’t start trickling back until preseason. Except for a few days during the draft.

    • Sahr Gborie

Amen. The team is so bad there is no pick to excite the fan base as a savior the way Andrew Luck did for the Colts. Maybe M.Garrett is the closes to exciting the base about a great defense. Other than him no other player gives you hope that we will be winners this season

    • Scharfinator

      Scathing.. and completely true.

  • CanadaBear

Jeff sounds like he was surprised nobody cares about the Beloved. We’re as hard core as it gets and most of us are not 100% in. Most of us don’t really think they will amount to anything this year (I’m guessing the vast majority are predicting a losing season). I desperately want them to win but really have little to no hope for this year. The Bears are at least 2-3 years away from being a decent team and that + a good QB away from really challenging the better teams.

    • Joecashflow

It’s a good season if the Bears
      ..Don’t lose a game by 3 TDs
      ..Defense ranked in top 10
..We lose 16 games by average under 7 points
…we average more than 21 points
      …Have a positive turnover ratio
      …D doubles their takeaways.
      …injuries are not a mystery
      ..We beat the fucking Packers

      • CanadaBear

Setting your sites awfully low. Not to mention the positive TO ratio will be a toughie to accomplish. Hopefully the new guys can pick a few. I really don’t see the D as top 10. They held up OK early in the season but by the end it was a train wreck. I’m assuming we will have the usual injury luck, which isn’t good. Anywho, hoping for the best, expecting the worst. My Bears fan motto for 55+ years.

        • leftcoast dave

The secondary is already vastly improved and they were the team weakness all year. The O line gelled amazingly well even with Kyle going down but the revolving door at QB was the biggest issue. An O line which protects the QB appears to have been built, barring injuries and with the anticipated recovery of Kyle. Grassu and the draft can add more to that. A quick vet to complement Howard with the ability to catch out of the backfield, several vet receivers including a speedster to stretch the field are all big pluses, even with Glennon as a question mark, albeit with promise. I am, perhaps, looking through rose colored glasses, but the future looks bright.

          • CanadaBear

            Wow. Rose colored indeed.

          • leftcoast dave

I think it all starts in the trenches on both sides of the ball. The O six are now better than they have been in years with, I believe, help coming at T.
On the other side of the ball, the front four are much improved (counting the OLB) and now the secondary much improved. Without that, you need to put up 28 points to even be in a game.
Yep, I think the foundation is being built to support the talent players on the O which will lead to contention.
            0 to 60 still a relevant phrase?

          • CanadaBear

I’m still worried about Kyle’s injuries. Don’t think McPhee or DT will ever recover their previous athleticism. Hopefully Goldman can stay healthy. Still think they need more @ DE. Same with LB’s. WR’s and TE’s are a total crapshoot and I wonder if they get a decent backup for Howard. Not to mention, in a close game the Bears have to overcome Fox’s tendencies to get conservative at the worst possible times. The Beloved are due for some decent injury luck but I say that every year.

          • leftcoast dave

Agree with the specific three injuries you mention and the need for more depth there, especially the LB corp. That is why I believe a T and LB are high probabilities for one and two taken this year by da Bears. IF, the big if, is whether they can successfully trade down to do that where they don’t overpay. If they cannot, either the S supporters or the DT supporters will get their man first, at a cost (imho) to those two other big needs.
TE is, I think, looking good with a late round pick to add. Maybe we’ll have the muscle to go with an occasional Stanford heavy type formation.
DE, not so concerned. Bullard disappointed last year. But then, he’s young. Let’s hope he’s building up his body in the off season and ready to compete.

          • BearDown100393

Kyle will be Kyle but never again Kyle.

          • MB30SD

How about dinner, but slowly brightening IFF pace blows up the next two drafts and takes the training wheels off the wallet in FA next offseason.

            I think that’s realistic

          • Irish Sweetness

For the offense it’s looking good. The defense ? Hicks and Floyd look good. That’s not enough.

        • willbest

Glennon wasn’t one to turn it over, a positive TO ratio should be obtainable

          • leftcoast dave

Will be interesting to see what comes out of the acquisition of Benny “the Jet” Cunningham and whether Glennon can get familiarized with all WRs, but especially Benny Jetting out of the backfield for that added dimension pass. Same with “Dump Down” Dion Sims who has shown to be great in the release after assuring pass protection help. In that role, the TE is the QB’s best friend.

          • Irish Sweetness

But his defense is the worst in the NFL at taking it away.

      • Sahr Gborie

Sounds all good but fans won’t accept it. Look at the games against the Jags and Colts. Fans will complained about execution and lack of concentration. Fox will gone by the trade deadline if we lose the first six games

      • Irish Sweetness

Not with No-Balls Fangio in the house.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

      16-0!!!

      • leftcoast dave

I’ve got my rose colored glasses on, but I was wearing them last year until the soldiers started falling like it was D-day. Then I was hoping 9-6. This year (ok, everybody, start laughing) 10-5!!!!!

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

you do know there are 16 games in a season. you are missing one. Tie? Maybe?

          • leftcoast dave

Duh? Need to scrape off a bit of char from the old brain cells.

It’s still early out here on the left coast.

        • AlbertInTucson

          “New Math” ?

          • leftcoast dave

No meth, er, math. Was on my first cuppa joe.

Now the “down the stairs” after the fact comment could have been “no, I was holding off on the last game to decide the conference title”, but it would have been a bs line. I b stoopid, needed the second cuppa, it is what it is.

      • BearDown100393

A little early but yes of course

      • Johnnywad

Just not showing up for the playoffs?

      • Sahr Gborie

        Speak it to life bro

      • SC Dave

        14-2.

        • leftcoast dave

          Much more realistic.

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

          such a pessimist.

    • Sahr Gborie

What if the new players fit the system better and as a result will execute it better? That is the one bit if hope I’m holding on to. Having a star player does not mean they can always execute your system the best.

      • SC Dave

I want an insane lunatic that we draft in round 4 to become the maulingest RT in the history of fucking football. Get Unrein back in the FB slot inaide the 5, and just pummel our opponents with the most brutal running attack ever seen.

    • AlbertInTucson

It is all a matter of “SHOW us something to get excited about.”.

Glennon, the other free agents, the draft.

ALL just conjecture at this point in time.

At this point, I’d settle for not being irrelevant by October.

    • Irish Sweetness

“I desperately want them to win but really have little to no hope for this year.”

That’s how I feel every year (shrugs). It’s all good.

  • BerwynBomber

Regarding the optimism vs. pessimism debate … the only positional groups (on paper) where we should be worse off this year are wide receiver and ILB. But even WR is arguable given Alshon’s and Royal’s availability last year, not to mention White’s.

Every other position we should either be the same or improved.

Plus, we will have an entirely new QB cast, which will be the first time for that in at least ten years.

    • leftcoast dave

Other than LB, I agree whole hardheartedly with more optimism for the WR corp.

    • BearDown100393

Jay always cared. Always. Even during the times he didnt.

      • leftcoast dave

I think what you just said, along with BB’s “entirely new QB cast” are the reason AJ is gone- lose any semblance of the old ‘tude and in with the new.

        Think Fuller got the message?

        • BearDown100393

I don’t think Fuller has functioned 100% since he got dropped on his head in camp.

“In a photo posted over the weekend, Cutler and his wife Kristin Cavallari

Perhaps he looks that way because he doesn’t have a care in the world?

I am SURE everybody else’s bracket has South Carolina in the Final Four.

        • Johnnywad

My problems run farther back than that. Of the four that got in, I had only UNC.

          • AlbertInTucson

I refused to engage this year. The entry fee at my workplace was 20 bucks. I passed.

Wouldn’t have had Duke in the final 4, but I never would have had South Carolina in there.

    Hall arrested for public intoxication.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

drinking with the enemy in Iowa. Who the fuck goes to Iowa to drink?

      • BearDown100393

I’m shocked public intoxication is actually against the law in Iowa.

        • CanadaBear

It’s like the seat belt law. They only use it when they can’t get them for anything else or just as an “add on” to escalate the fine. If you get charged with public intox you either really pissed the cops off or they got tired of your shit.

      • CanadaBear

Guys that went to college there!

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

that’s even worse. The spent several years there and still wanted to go back? They should have been arrested just for that, maybe even committed for 72 hours just to be safe.

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

it’s Iowa, you know they are going to screw things up.

          • leftcoast dave

No. That’s completely wrong. The cops in Iowa are generally good peeps. They kept the lid on things and nobody got hurt. Dumb shit with his homey from the team who landed with the Pack got out of control. Too bad, but a lesson with lesser ramifications that what many hitting the big time fall into.

    • ButtonShoes

Boy, that Ryan Pace sure knows how to draft players with high character, doesn’t he? /sarcasm

      • AlbertInTucson

        For sure!

How DARE Pace not be freakin’ CLAIRVOYANT!

        • Johnnywad

Public intoxication itself isn’t all that bad in the absence of driving a car. It’s that dipshit NFL Alpha mentality that allows it to escalate that allows it to turn into a real problem. All you gotta do is play it cool. But nope.

          • leftcoast dave

Dumb sh*ts. He and his home boy CB who was drafted by the Pack go back to Collegeville go an old haunt and mix it up with whoever. Both end up with misdemeanor charges. The good thing about Iowa is that the cops don’t have a ‘tude and kept things down where they belonged.

    • AlbertInTucson

      SMH.

Iowa cops don’t do that. LA, NO, plenty of other towns, to be sure. You don’t even need to be black or brown for that to happen too many places. But Iowa or Minnesota or Wisconsin, not as likely for a putz on roids to get his rocks off pulling the trigger.

    • Sahr Gborie

no noise on them trading up yet but they would have to really believe in the kid to give up the kings ransom necessary to get our 3.

  • Ososfan

I belive we have one more year of sucking and picking top 3 next year and getting our Franchise QB in 2018 draft and with the young studs we get on D this draft will help us become a juggernaut from 2018 and beyond…. Pace will probably have as new coach and one more year to prove to the org that things will turn around and we will be real- deal contenders. Bear down!

    • Sahr Gborie

Should be a good thing. Vegas is an entertainment venue. Gets the team away from the thuggish element which create a security risk. The last thing football needs is a Chavez ravine like incident of somebody getting his head bashed in for wearing the wrong hat.

      • BearDown100393

Thank goodness Vegas has no thugs.

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

    I like this proposed rule.

The rule would reward kickers who boot kickoffs through the uprights by spotting the football at the 20-yard line for a touchback instead of the 25.

we would definitely need a new kicker. Better use our 3rd on one.

    • BerwynBomber

The NFL continues to try to pump life into the kicking game.

      • leftcoast dave

Analogous to golf and the longer tee shots. What percentage of kicks get returned anymore with higher and deeper kicks? Keep moving the KO back and you have the injury issue to deal with. Tough call to make.

        • BerwynBomber

Yeah, not a huge fan of these rules that put more emphasis/importance on the kicking game.

Though this new proposed one is much less onerous than the 37 year PAT (or whatever the length of it is now).

          • willbest

The old PAT rule made sense when it was the RB that was doing the kicking. If teams are going to commit 3 players to the kicking game, then the rules should be adjusted to make it harder for those 3 players.

          • BerwynBomber

I would have eliminated the kicked PAT. Just give teams the option of the two point play. If you decide not to go for it, you receive 7 points for your TD. If you go for it, your TD will be worth 8 or 6 depending upon you two-point success/failure.

          • BearDown100393

            Vegas wants the extra point.

          • BerwynBomber

They would have gotten it. 6, 7, or 8 — what I proposed would not have changed the potential point value. Just would eliminate the kicking aspect of the PAT.

          • AlbertInTucson

“..when it was the RB that was doing the kicking…”

            Or a guard.

            Or a LB.

    • willbest

I like it. I also liked the 25 yard thing which encouraged kickoffs. Maybe its just years of watching Hester, but I like me a good kickoff return.

Anybody with an educated prognostication upon how actin’ the foo back in Collegetown will impact Hall vis. the PCP?
No guns involved, didn’t beat any women, didn’t fight dogs, didn’t (so far as we know) swing on anybody, “just” got drunk with a fellow “Panther” who also made it to the next level and got arrogant tude nasty.

JAGs don’t get second chances. Is he a JAG? Do we know with the injury history?

      • leftcoast dave

He was picked because of his freakish wingspan and good college performance history. The ankle injury was ugly, but if turned into a positive with more time to study and hit the weight room it could have been mitigated. Actin’ a foo does not bode well for making the best of it. Even when drafted, the talk was possible future FS. We shall see.

If the Bears cut him he will be camp fodder somewhere at the very least. But if its between him and a guy that doesn’t get into trouble, its going to be that guy.

However, if they think there is something there they will force him to go into a program and make him do some community service.

    • BerwynBomber

My guess would be a couple/few games. Not a good look, especially spitting at cops.

    • CanadaBear

Gonna have to let it play out. Usually the official report and what happened are two different things. I’m guessing he gets a game or two at most.

      • BerwynBomber

True but in this case it’s the cops word against his. A little different than another civilian’s.

        • leftcoast dave

From the reports, the cops handled it very well and unless someone is looking to cash in somehow, I do not see anybody at the venue likely to want to hurt the guy. He’s a local sports hero who was struttin his stuff and got ignorant.

          • MB30SD

spitting in multiple cop’s faces is a tad bit beyond arrogant.

Considering what the Browns have done this FA, I would rank them higher. And as to the other two, well that is just an RPS game difference.

    • AlbertInTucson

We’re at the TOP of the bottom! Woo-hoo!

#29 is a bit low for a team about to go undefeated.

Still find ourselves starting to do things for the dog and then realizing, “Damn, we don’t have a dog.”

Not planning on getting another because, over the years, I’VE had to take all FIVE in to be euthanized. Plus a friend’s two cats. I’m right there when they go.

            No fun.

          • BearDown100393

I come home from the vet clinic right after doing the deed. And the first thing I do is go to the backdoor to our yard. And I open it. Thinking of course, the dog needs to go out. Stupid.

          • AlbertInTucson

            I hear that.

And I put her down in Mid-December.

    • BerwynBomber

The Cheese are again overrated at #3. That team lost more than it gained in free agency and they were only a 10-6 team last year that rode Rodgers’ heroics to the NFCC. Just from the NFC alone, I would have DAL, SEA and ATL rated above them. Maybe even WAS.

On the flip side, surprised MIN is rated as low as they are. Bad second half of last year but still some talent on that D and their running game should be improved, even if slightly.

      • willbest

Washington is a total shitshow now. I would rank the NFC

        Dallas
        Seattle
Atlanta (I think the D regresses)
        NYG
        Green Bay

AFC has a few more moving pieces though. Pats obviously. Steelers if Ben returns. I would take the Chiefs over the Packers as well. Texans move up a bunch if they sign Romo or Cutler, but probably not over the Packers just from a brittle QB concern. Donks as well if they get one of the vet QBs.

I think the Raiders are a coin flip with the packers. Except the rookies on that D to perform better in their sophomore season and add a big target for Carr.

        • BerwynBomber

That’s right. Momentarily forgot about all that WAS GM mess as well as how solid NYG looked last year. Overall, agree with both your NFC and AFC takes.

Also keeping my eyes on NO and PHI. Both invested in free agency and both have promise if, respectively, NO’s D even becomes average and Wentz takes a step forward. No givens on those fronts, but if either does, could see one of them as a surprise team in the WC hunt.

          • Wentz might have that break out 2nd year ala Carr. And in that division, a diff team wins it every year.

Skins managment might be a shit show, but they may have upgraded on O at least (Pryor better than Garcon). Cousins is also in yet another “prove it” yr, so he’s def gonna be motivated. They lost a few pieces on D.

Dallas might regress. Hard to believe they’ll be that good again, but they have a young nucleus and Old Sauce squeezes the most from that D. If they land a premiere pass rusher, watch out.

          • leftcoast dave

Which is not to say we should not sell them the 3 pick if they pay up for it?

          • Garrett is the only one I see anyone moving up for like that.

If Old Sauce believes Jonathan Allen is Tommie Harris Jr., maybe him, but I doubt he has that type of pull.

Jerra runs that war room, and he doesn’t seem to care too much about D.

          • leftcoast dave

            LB?

      • Sahr Gborie

As long as they have A.R. they are never overrated. Thats just facts. I dont like it. You dont like it. But its the truth. If he goes down for the season and they are still #3 then you can call them overrated

        • BerwynBomber

Meh. Their D is bottom half of the league bad — hell, their pass D was dead last in the league. They had a WR playing RB. They gave up 27 points to Matt Barkley in zero degree weather.

I get Rodgers’ all-world greatness but that’s an average team at best. Both NYG and DAL should have beaten them.

    • I’ve read more than few “experts” who expect the Bears to rebound. The #1 reason for the rebound is mostly inj related, as in, they believe the laws of avg won’t ravage again.

Who knows? There’s a lot of moving parts and more than enough reasonable doubt, #1 being QB.
#2 still being Fox and gang.

      • willbest

I guess its possible, but then rebound is what carolina and a lot of other bad teams last year should do too.

        • I feel like the Panther’s had their shot.
Kinda like the Bears circa 2006.

Maybe they have another run cuz they have a better QB, but I just feel like they’re trending downward.

Nearly going perfect then getting spanked while Cam turtled like that…that’s gotta be demoralizing.

Kinda like when McNabb puked in the SB and totaling losing face.

Miami’s Ross was the only owner to vote against Raiders move. They will be making the move in 2019 it looks like.

    • CanadaBear

Why would Ross oppose the move? Feel bad for the Raiders fans. What a pisser for them. Although LV might be the perfect spot for them to relocate. Between all the comps and a decent population base, the place should be full all the time. Not to mention, with the Raiders having a bit of an unsavory reputation, they fit right in.

Unknown why Ross opposed the move but Rapt reported that Ross just spent $500 million of private money upgrading the Fins stadium. So perhaps he objects to the circumstances of the move.

        • CanadaBear

I’m not sure how I would feel if a team I liked relocated. I’m guessing I’d be so pissed I’d either give up on the sport or change teams.

          • willbest

I suspect my attitude would be different if I were living in the city or not. For example, if I were a Raiders fan living in Chicago, I can’t say the change would affect me at all. But if I lived in or around Oakland, well then fuck the Raiders.

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Agree, if I lived in the city or was a season ticket holder I would be pissed. The thing that irks me is how the NFL handles these moves. They make it seem like the original cities have a chance to keep the teams if they make the right offer. For instance, St Louis spent millions on coming up with a new stadium “plan”, when it was apparent Kroenke was determined to move. And from my understanding Oakland finally put together a “viable” plan only for the NFL to say it was not enough. I actually applaud the people of San Diego for telling the team to go fuck itself when it came to a publicly funded stadium.

          • CanadaBear

They were trying to build about a 6,500 seat arena here in town. The city is about 100,000. The city really needs an arena but they also need a corp to put their name on it. Just isn’t economically viable. It got voted down. The city was all for it and they would have had to borrow the entire $80 mil.

          • MB30SD

The Murph… As we like to call it is a piece of fucking shit stadium.

Second only to women’s golf… at least there are some cute girls in short dresses in that. Girl bball players are…. men.

Oh, I’m not a fan by any means. But 154-1 is pretty fucking strong.

      fucking romo… the original romo.

Haley’s is just weird. Jeff george as #1?!? damn. The original Cutler.

      • “To further prove the extent of his manhood, he was fond of pulling out
his “junk” wherever he pleased — sometimes even in team meetings — and
either showing off its size, or pleasuring himself while talking about other player’s wives. According to former teammates, Haley cut a hole in the roof of teammate Tim Harris’ car, got on top, and urinated inside.” – Keep it classy, Haley

        • MB30SD

And he ‘beat out’ the original cutty as not #1?!?

The dude was obviously fucking crazy… Like, certifiable. No one normal does shit like that.
