please please can we have Adams? okay, we’ll settle for Thomas. shucks.

Thomas would be a decent consolation prize.

I think the more appropriate comparison is white.

Perfect match. Both physical freaks, both 1-year wonders, both injury prone… although thank baby jebus we found out about hooker BEFORE we drafted him.

          • Sahr Gborie

the football gods love us this draft. wish we would have gone for Vic Beasley. but its will be ok so long as white has a monster year….fingers crossed

Who stole your Cheerios this morning?

  • leftcoast dave

Mahomes, Kaiser, Obi, OT, whoever after two trades down. It’s not a matter of whether someone will trade, its a matter of how much you get for it and how you value what you can get.

    • Irish Sweetness

We could trade down and grab McDowell (an actual 3-4 sized DE) and draft one of the safeties like Budda or Obi. A DL and DB starter. Plug’n’play.

Beathard could maybe be had with one of the 4th rounders we have. Fix the D, and draft a guy who might be a thing in a few years.

  • Sahr Gborie

“You just trust what your eyes see and don’t over-think it,” he said. “Trust your conviction and trust
your instincts and trust your gut. You can get into trouble right now if you’re up there watching additional tape and doing all that. You can over-scout players. By now we’ve got enough opinions. We’ve met with enough players. We’ve been through the Combine and been through the pro days and seen players play live. I don’t think we’re in a situation where we’re overthinking anything.” – Ryan Pace

He has his man and the next in line if that player is taken before he can pick them. Im just ready to watch the draft and be pleasantly surprised

    • leftcoast dave

Agree with you there. Pace did a great job last year and I expect the same tomorrow night. Has his one through three chosen, is ready with the list of top 20, depending on what he can get to trade down. Might decide the value is not there or might take a trade most people say does not get enough based on the old “value” chart which I think is out the door this year with so many people available through three who can start in the league.

      It will be fun!!!!!!

I usually have ESPN on in the background while I work. Normally one of the radio shows – Mike and Mike, Dan Lebatard etc. I usually don’t pay attention, but since ESPN is firing people I decided to pay more attention. I found it funny that nothing I have watched has even addressed the firings. No coworkers wishing them luck or anything. Just business as usual.

Mitchell Trubisky as the #1 pick.

Does Garrett slide past the 9ers if that’s the case?

    • MB30SD

my god browns… you just can’t help being the browns for one fucking draft?!?

      Oh and btw, thanks!

      • King of DBB

        fucking Sonny Weaver Jr. morons.

      • It’s funny cuz the Browns are looking at the 9ers with Hoyer, Bears with Glennon, Jags with Bortles, and Jets with McCown and saying, “No way is Trubisky lasting til 12” and getting itchy.

        https://media.giphy.com/media/2SXj0FfmSIFfW/giphy.gif

The real question – do the 9ers take Watson at #2 using the same logic?

        • Bender McLugh

          lol +100 for that gif

        • MB30SD

          yes please!

        • Irish Sweetness

That’s what I’m afraid of. Does that then force Pace into drafting Trubisky when he really wanted Watson?

    • I read that there’s a split within their organization.

That the owner wants to finally land a franchise QB (maybe to make up for the embarrassing Manziel pick).

But the coaching staff wants Garrett.

GM is stuck in the middle, so that might be part of the mixed signals (cuz NO TEAM is trading up to #1).

      • Bender McLugh

        Smoke

        • But you create smoke in order to get something in return.

I can see the Bears drumming up interest in QB so that maybe a team trades with the 9ers to get a QB and the target drops to Pace.

          But @#1?

No one is trading up to #1 for a QB or even Garrett.

      • AlbertInTucson

Is Kevin Costner still their GM?

    • Sahr Gborie

Mitchell Trubisky has not been under center since the 6th grade

      • AlbertInTucson

That didn’t seem to bother Marriota.

On the other hand, a 13 game college career isn’t much of a resume’ and Trubisky couldn’t beat out the guy ahead of him the year before and that guy went undrafted.

      • Irish Sweetness

I think they nick Watson from us. Then it becomes an easy Adams pick.

Do we trade up one spot ???

  • Sahr Gborie

“You get yourself into trouble if you’re not sticking with our philosophy of (taking the) best player
available,” Pace said. “When you start trying to manufacture things or create things, that’s when teams get into dangerous water. If we just stay with guys we have a consensus on and (take the) best player available, we’ll be in good shape.” – Ryan Pace

Pace says the Bears have “three names right now that we like,” at No. 3, but it’s anyone’s guess who those three are.

Just who might be in HIS top 3 based on what we have come to know about him?

    • MB30SD

“If we just stay with guys we have a consensus on and (take the) best player available”

that list has to include 3 of the following (in no part.order):
      garrett
      adams
      thomas
      howard
      allen
      lattimore
      fornnette

      • Sahr Gborie

        1.Garrett – best
        2.Adams – fix the secondary
3.Thomas – i could not get garrett so i settle for you

        • MB30SD

that would be MY list gorbs

          • Sahr Gborie

i was going to put watson at 3 just in case he wanted a qb. but i dont see him as the type to over reach. if you consider k.white an over reach remember that it was not his scouts. l.floyd is going to be better this year once he puts on weight. he might be our version of garrett

          • Irish Sweetness

Watson is considered the best QB in the draft, White was not considered the best receiver in the draft, that was Cooper.

        • Irish Sweetness

And he’s too small to play end. Agreed.

Either tweener or Lattimore are not good picks for us.

  • Being a Raiders fan must be weird right now.

Raiders are a bit diff. When they moved to L.A. I don’t think they lost many fans from Oak cuz the Raiders are like the unofficial mascot of thugs in Northern and Southern Cal. I have friends who have tats of them and travel to Oak every sun to watch them. They’re diehard and the move to Vegas won’t affect them much cuz Vegas is actually only 4 hrs away from L.A.

But do OAK fans finally say fuck em?

Be interesting to see. Vegas is “sin city” so in some way it makes sense to me, but I didn’t grow up in Oak town.

Carr threw gasoline on the fire too by saying whoever stops rooting for the Raiders were never true fans to start. Backed out of that quick but damage done.

  • Sahr Gborie

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/ct-10-thoughts-nfl-draft-brad-biggs-20170426-story.html
“The quarterback thing is crazy,” Mayock said. “My take is on the quarterback thing, as always, is I think we push them up too high because of need. I looked at a chart the other night. I think there were 25 first-round quarterbacks in the last 10 years. You discount the last two years just because they haven’t had a chance to perform yet, OK? There are 21 quarterbacks those prior eight years. Four are franchise
guys. Nine are out of the league. So you’ve got twice as much a chance of drafting a guy that is out of the league in the first round at quarterback. And then the rest were borderline starters and backups and
looking for jobs. So when you look at this particular draft, I don’t even have them rated as high as I have had (quarterbacks) in the last few drafts yet there is still a huge need. So the most difficult thing for me to look at, and I think the rest of the league also, is how quickly teams start to pull the trigger. – Mike Mayock

    • I’m still waiting for teams to say ‘enough’ and FINALLY draft QBs where they should actually be drafted.

But this is like the criminal dilemma. Sociological test.

If you and your bud get busted for something, and he’s getting interrogated in the other room, do you rat him out before he rats you out and thereby getting a sweeter deal?

That’s what I see with QBs. Teams don’t trust guys in the other room to hold out, so they jump the gun on QBs.

I wish there were some sort of unspoken collusion when it came to drafting QBs (kinda like what the Donks and Texans did when they both refused to take the Romo bait from Jerrah), but these GMs are jackals and can’t be trusted, so I don’t know how the market will correct itself when it comes to QBs.

The imbalance comes from the NFL itself, so it might simply be embedded.

      • MB30SD

        impossible

        • It would be awesome if the owners got together in a smoky backroom like the 5 families in the Godfather, “Ok, no QB cucks drafted in the1st, period. Whoever violates this will sleep with the fishes. Also, drugs will be kept away from children, capiche”

          • MB30SD

            you said it above.

That is an owner’s meeting. One of those cunts says good morning and I go outside and check

      • willbest

Teams do draft them where they are supposed to be drafted. The prisoners dilemma supposes you are both in equal standing. If you don’t have a top 15 QB on your roster you are headed into the interrogation room with two priors. You are gonna sing.

        • Irish Sweetness

Exactly. Will CLE and SF draft Watson and trubisky 1 and 2? No.

But any combination of them, Buffalo, NY, JAX etc. may be picking at 1 and 2.

      • leftcoast dave

Simple risk reward. Higher risk, higher reward. The rational choice to be made is where you team is in other needs and whether you can deliver on the field without first building the foundation, ie. an O Line and other pieces to the puzzle. Dak and Zeek made it in Dallas. What would they have done in Cleveland?

    • Irish Sweetness

But how does that relate to the three pick if all QBs are on the board? It doesn’t.

      You draft your guy.

    • Deeum. Maybe start headhunting Texan scouts, Pace

“The Texans are the only team in the NFL that has all of their first-round picks since 2008 still on the team and occupying starting spots. General manager Rick Smith and the scouting
staff have done a masterful job of hitting on first-round picks”

      • MB30SD

        wow

        • fucking impressive.
Can Pace visit all those scouts with $20K in cold hard cash and say, “You see this? This is your bonus for joining the Bears. And there’s more where that came from.”

Is that tampering? Why hasn’t he done this already?

Paying those grunts a lil extra is a drop in the bucket if they’re hitting on draft picks like that. How much $$$ have all our 1st rd busts costed?

          $20M + I’d guesstimate.

          • MB30SD

fuck yes that much. That’s honestly amazing. Holy shit.

          • King of DBB
          • willbest

That sounds about right. I have looked at zero WR highlight reels because I can’t imagine Pace even considering it.

          • I haven’t either for the same reason. I don’t think he’ll go Mike Williams cuz then that would basically be admitting White is a bust, and GMs loathe doing that. Plus, all the WRs he’s picked up in FA.

Needless to say, I’d go Howard over any WR at #3 100% of the time.

It’s a rather poor WR draft class, and from what I’ve read, Williams is basically Alshon but without the jumping ability.

          • Irish Sweetness

Yes BUT, in spite of that impressive fact, they still haven’t gotten close to a Super Bowl appearance.

And their QB situation has been nothing to write home about, either.

        • CanadaBear

          Esp the last part.

        • The QB will always be the GM call with some input by the HC/OC and maybe even owner (depending on team), so I wouldn’t be too worried about that.

Just give me input on the rest, and let’s roll.

          • BerwynBomber

Though apparently it was O’Brien who put the kibosh on the “Cutty to HOU” chances (for now). Reports suggest that O’Brien wasn’t high on signing Oz last year so the FO was inclined to defer to him this offseason.

        • BerwynBomber

Their QB situation is actually worse than ours.

Perhaps not, but they have built a solid contender as a base for the QB the are searching to find, not wasting a ton of draft capital for long shots. Nine of their last sixteen picks have been to the pro bowl and the only QB selected in the first was in 2002.

          What’s that tell you?

        • Irish Sweetness

They were in the playoffs last year with Brock Snotweiler!

    • willbest

Rodgers doesn’t play like Brady or Brees. I could see him wearing out faster. Draft Mahomes now move on from Rodgers after 2018 when he is turning 35.

      • BerwynBomber

It will be interesting to see if Rodgers can convert to a pure drop-back passer. He has the skill set for it, but yeah, it will cost him his otherworldliness — basically going from a top 3 QB to a top five or top 10.

And Rodgers might have a better chance of winning a title elsewhere. Imagine him on HOU or KC, or hell, even a team like CIN all these past years.

I’m backing off QB in the top 9, barring a trade up.

Biggsy, Haugh already typing up their scathing pieces on Pace.

        • MB30SD

          I’m sure they’re already finished

    • Irish Sweetness

Who the fuck is Josh Norris?

  • Captain Obvious

Don’t know why people are so enamored with Lattimore to be such a high pick. Dude has bum hammies, and spent a lot of time off the football field because of them. Why would a team gamble a high first-round pick that he’ll be able to stay on the field?

    • leftcoast dave

      Yoga, Yoga, Yoga.

      • MB30SD

nope, born with it. he’s fucked.

    • He’s a 6′ 200 pound CB with length, agility, explosion, hops and 4.38 speed.

His tape is great. He’s all over receivers like white on rice and is a ballhawk

No one doubts he’ll be the best CB in a great CB class.

That’ll be enough to tempt a GM.

      Is that Pace? dunno

So it turns out Watson neither had a private workout nor a visit with the Bears

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/ct-10-thoughts-nfl-draft-brad-biggs-20170426-story.html

    So much dis-info out there.

    • Elect A Clown. Expect A Circus

      Neither did Trub.

Watson is clearly not Pace type QB. He said again today that his ideal QB traits are heavily influenced from his days as scout and who he was around (Brees).

      • Irish Sweetness

The list of people who had been with the Bears I saw had Trubs and Mahomes on it, not Watson. Although I think Trubs was a combine meeting. Mahomes, was combine, workout, private meeting.

Smokescreen stuff. They’ll draft Watson. The Mahomes meeting is worrying though.

A very expensive invitation to a stranger woman to join a foursome.

Gareon Conley – DB – Player
A league source told Profootballtalk.com that the “current buzz” is Ohio State CB Gareon Conley will slip into round three after he was accused of rape by a Cleveland woman this week.
It’s better than not being drafted at all, of course, which became a distinct possibility when the allegations were made. Our takeaway from this report is that NFL teams are putting in time on Conley’s situation and may be determining that they believe the allegations to be potentially false. Before being accused of the felony crime, Conley was a sure-fire first-round prospect.

    • The crazy part is that he was merely accused. I don’t even think the police are going to interview him til mon, well past the draft.

Could be the steal of the draft, for another team cuz we know the Bears only sign mormons.

  • BerwynBomber

Sucks the Bulls lost Rondo. They could have beaten BOS, the 1 seed.

    • Bender McLugh

      Absolutely.

  • Bears can’t miss on #1, that’s a given.
But what we really need to do is hit on (the right) 3 top 50 players in the first 3 rds.

If we can do that, the rest is gravy.

3 top 50 players who contribute, who’s bones aren’t made of titanium or brains of mashedpotatos or hamstrings of stale rubberband.

So let it be written, so let it be done.

    • AlbertInTucson

      “Bears can’t mss on #1.”

      LOL.

Like they couldn’t miss the playoffs for 19 of the last 24 years?

      • CanadaBear

        Sure, bring that up Al!

        • AlbertInTucson

It’s dirty job, but SOMEBODY has to do it.

Was told tonight by person who gave me Fournette to SF was bad info. The thinking is they will select Adams at 2.

    • BerwynBomber

Someone put MB on suicide watch …

      • MB30SD

naaaaah, that pick for us would shock me. We hate good safeties. Zero talent for acquiring them and coaching them.

The Bears are where bad safeties go to get baderer.

I’m hoping for thomas… I’ll have a boner/heart attack if we pick adams

        • Irish Sweetness

If the draft is full of safeties then we’ll get one (or two).

          It just mightn’t be Adams, and if it isn’t .. .I hope he’s 6’4. Yes’m.

Why is Trubisky in the poll and Watson isn’t?

One would have thought Pace’d have a higher grade on Watson, no?

  • AlbertInTucson

The team Mitch Trubisky would most love to play for: The Cleveland Browns.

Per “Path to The Draft” on NFL Net.

    • Ososfan

Yup, he’s been saying that since before committing to the draft….

  • Irish Sweetness

So Pace says he has three names.

After Garrett on 7.6, three players are graded 6.8 (http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/tracker#dt-tabs:dt-by-position/dt-by-team-input:chi/dt-by-position-input:s).

    Thomas / Allen / Fournette.

What are Pace’s grades on them, assuming they are the three?

Has he swapped out Allen for Trubs/Watson?
