    First!!

  • 1st to welcome Trevathan! (maybe?)

    • MB30SD

      so…. close.

  • Re-post to see if I’m totally off.

Butch’s detective agency. Slogan “The right dick for the right stchick”

According to Raul Martinez of FOX 31 Denver, it “sounds like” the Bears have offered a four-year deal to free agent ILB Danny Trevathan.

The money is unknown, but it wouldn’t be surprising if Trevathan pushed for $8 million annually. Inside
linebacker was by far Chicago’s biggest defensive weakness last season, and inside linebacker is a key position in Vic Fangio’s 3-4 defense, where he had Patrick Willis and Navorro Bowman in San Francisco. The Bears look like the early front-runners to land Trevathan. – Roto

Butch’s take. Normally don’t like overpaying for ILB or S, but we got the cash and the need. 99% chance of happening.

ESPN Patriots reporter Mike Reiss expects the Bears to pursue impending free agent DT Akiem Hicks.

Defensive tackle is an area of need for the Bears and Hicksknows GM Ryan Pace from their time together in New Orleans from 2012-14. The Patriots will do their best to keep Hicks, though he might
beout of the team’s price range. For what it’s worth, coach Bill Belichick told Hicks to keep at least “something” in his locker when he was cleaning it out at the end of the season. – Roto

Butch’s take. Seems logical. FA is more of 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon, and I’m certain we’re loading up the Dline. Ex-pat. Well coached, to bout.

Josina Anderson of ESPN reports that the Chargers free agent CB Patrick Robinson has interest from the Giants, Eagles, Bears and Dolphins as of now.

Robinson could prove to be a decent value signing for a team in the market for cornerback help, as he’s coming off of a pretty good season in San Diego.

Robinson, 27, is a former first-round pick of the Saints back in 2010. He played out his rookie contract for the Saints before signing a one-year deal withe Chargers last year.

In 2015, Robinson appeared in all 16 games for the Chargers and recorded 49 tackles, one interception, a forced fumble and eight pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 30 cornerback out of 111 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 100 – 2016 Free Agents list.

Butch’s take. Sounds like a total Porter-esque signing. A relatively unknown gem POX uncovers. Young and not overly priced.

EDIT: Seattle offensive guard J.R. Sweezy appears to be on the Bears’ radar according to the NFL Network’s Rand Getlin. Here’s what Danny Kelly of Field Gulls had to say about the soon to be 27 year old Sweezy.

He’s tough, reliable, and plays a very physical brand of football. Much better in the run game
than in the passing game — he’s good at finding and targeting people onthe second level in the run game but too often gets worked in pass protection. Has been a starter for three years but there’s not much evidence that he’s improved greatly during those three years, which is concerning because he actually made the switch from the defensive line to the offensive line out of college. You’d think he’d gradually show improvement as he learns the offensive side of the ball but it seems like there’s a bit of a plateau there. That said, he’s been healthy mostly the past three years (reliable), is still young, is very athletic, and plays nasty. I’m sure teams will like this, and I’m guessing that’s why he’s getting a lot of interest. Fits in the zone-blocking scheme because of his athleticism.

Butch’s skinny. I also think this is happening. Bears want to solidify that oline without having to draft one, esp after the underwhelming Grassu.

Edit, forgot about Jaye Howard, Dline

“1. Jaye Howard, Kansas City: Mauled Bears early in ’15 meeting with Hroniss Grasu; low mileage, high upside.” – Moon (then again, it was vs Pass-u the Grassu)

    ————————————-

I think we’ll also get a S, possibly a WR/KR/Gunner, some other Dlinemen – (a wild card is Olivier Vernon from the Fins), and other camp fodder, but I predict the aforementioned will be the major signings.

Agree with Hoge about getting burned on the first day but the Beloved have 45 mil available so there is money there for a few $5-8 mil/year guys (at least 2 or 3).

            Both have dreamy hair.

    • Captain Obvious

Denver is gonna miss the playoffs, that’s what they’re gonna do.

      • BC in Tampa

They got the ring though, that’s all that matters.

        • Captain Obvious

Dunno if that’ll be much consolation when they follow it up with a 6-10 season, when they could’ve had Osweiler and at least contended again.

    • 505Bears

Uncle Ricco? He can throw footballs over mountains!!

  • MikeBrownhadaPosse

Is Akiem Hicks still in play?

    • Huge Bear’s Penis

      yep

      • MikeBrownhadaPosse

Everybody on twitter says a deal ain’t getting done today, so I guess I’ll quit hitting F5.

  • MikeBrownhadaPosse

Ngata just landed with the Loins.

  • Officially, Trevathan a Bear! per NFLN

    Welcome aboard!

    • Trac

Woo hoo, you mean we actually have a ILB on the team now?

      • BC in Tampa

        Yeah and he’s only 26!

        • Captain Obvious

          Hey, Shea is 26, too!

          • BC in Tampa

Yeah but he’s been rode hard and put away wet.

  • Captain Obvious

    Jets got Forte.

    • Scharfinator

Gosh we talked about that last thread! Didn’t you read all 700 comments?

      No? Yeah me neither.

      • Captain Obvious

Seriously. I read a few, but mostly I skip them. Especially if anyone with “Feathers” in their nick posts much.

        • Scharfinator

          Hah! Damn straight

  • 505Bears

So, does that mean we are definitely signing DL in round 1, or do we pair up a rookie with Trev in the middle?

    • Captain Obvious

Depends. Will Ragland be there in the 2nd? If not, I don’t see the Bears going for Jack with 11. DL is more likely.

      • Irish Sweetness

This is why we should trade down and do Ragland and Henry in the bottom of the first. Draft DE in the second. Sign Akiem Nicks with this bundle of supposed cash we have.

  • BC in Tampa

Can we sign a free safety today please?

  • Trac

Dang, Denver has been gutted. Let’s see how good Horsemouth is now? He he.

    • CanadaBear

      Oh Wilburrrrrrrr …

  • MikeBrownhadaPosse

    New thread already.
