Summing Up the Bears Blowout Loss to Tampa in Seven Sentences

| November 14th, 2016

screen-shot-2016-11-14-at-6-57-29-am

Jay Cutler delivered one of the most bewildering and terrible performances from a Chicago Bears quarterback in recent memory; a memory including the likes of Jimmy Clausen and Caleb Hanie. Cutler’s decision making was putrid, accuracy was non-existence and concern for the football borderline criminal. As the game drifted away, others also aided and abetted this sporting crime, but the loss sits squarely and without bobble on the shoulders of one man: Jay Christopher Cutler.

One should not make leaps about Cutler’s future in Chicago off one performance – good or bad. But this was performance was SO bad, it will be impossible for many to resist. I can’t blame them. If Brian Hoyer were healthy Sunday, he’d have been on the field by the second quarter.

Administrative note: I’m off to France for a bit but the content will continue! Data, Andrew and myself from abroad will be here daily, playing out the string.

It doesn’t mean he is gone, but it should. Too many people hate him. This was a head scratcher even by Jays standards.

    • Big Mike

Not a question of gone, question is where was his soul? Blow it up. Bears will compete again in 2020. I swear I need to find a back up team, because the Bears just crapped all over the next 2 years of football.

  • SC Dave

It was *almost* bad enough to call for Matt Barkley.

Enjoy your trip(s), gentlemen! Sounds like fun.

  • Scharfinator

Hoyer doesn’t win vs. Minnesota. Probably would have in Tampa. I’d love a good QB at some point.

    • MB30SD

I’d settle for consistently pretty good

      • roglesby

funny I was making that argument here a while back when everyone was screaming “Jay would have hit Alshon in the end zone!” that they were counting TDs and passes ‘he would have made’ but unable to count the INTs and Pick 6’s…. Now he’s back. And this is what you get. a Good looking game and that crap we saw yesterday…. This whole things is starting to sound a lot like “rex is our quaterback”

        • MB30SD

Yuuuuup. Over it. Rather have 300 2 TDs and 0 TOs every game and keep improving the D and specials to win games instead of the demoralizing garbage we get every 2 games

        • SC Dave

Yeah, just like Jay hit Alshon in the end zone yesterday. You know, when Alshon reached over the defender’s shoulder to knock away a certain interception.

    • Irish Sweetness

Ironically, yes, Hoyer would probably have dinked and dunked us enough to ride Howard for the whole of that game. Meredith would have had 6-8 catches whilst Jeffrey was bracketed. Then Tampa’s defense would have gotten tired, not ours. And we would have had the ball for 37 minutes, not them.

      He’s still shit though.

  • Big Mike

Wow, that was bad. I’m going to try and be positive. Floyd is going to be good. McPhee/Hicks are very good. Willie Young is good. The O-line started out phenomenally. #62 wasn’t a horrible back up for Massie. Larsen did fine replacing Long (two weeks in a row). ILBs are good.

On the other hand are secondary is worse than I thought. Only Amos belongs on the field.

Cutler played one of the worst games of his career. He sucked, the play calling sucking, the WRs sucked, the TEs sucked. I mean they just showed no interest in getting open.

    • SC Dave

Don’t forget Howard. The brightest light on offense this season, by a lot.

Four 100-yard games, a 5.3 ypc, and 75% catch rate. Excellent stuff.

      • Big Mike

Indeed. Also my favorite draft pick Whitehair played well. We’ve got something there. Grasu? oh well? Sitton’s on a 2 year deal I think. Some depth there. But if the Bears don’t win again that’s fine. Need a QB. Keep Cutler next year, when he gets hurt, put the rookie in. Drafting at the top of every round will help. This team has more talent than they are showing. As bad as they looked yesterday, the optimist says its growing pains. They do need to fire dowell logjam or whatever the fuck his name is.

        • SC Dave

When players make stupid decisions and play badly, all calls look wrong.

          • Big Mike

This is true. BUT, the coaches JOB is not just calling plays. The players need to understand the concept of the play and how to execute the play and what to do when it goes to shit.

          • SC Dave

Well, all I will say to that is that against Minnesota, nobody was complaining about bad play calling. Nor, for that matter, most of the games Hoyer played.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not disagreeing with you – I just think to pin this on Loggains misses what happened yesterday. That was an offense that mostly played like shit. Without Howard finding space and running through tacklers, it would have been even worse.

I’ll watch again tonight or tomorrow (if I can stomach it) and perhaps amend my comments.

          • Big Mike

Against MN the play calling was barely decent. They dominated that game at every level physically and put up 20 points. That should have been 30+ points.

I get your point. I’m, not a blame the play caller kind of guy. Most often that’s a sophomoric response, based on frustration. Bears didn’t adjust at all. On many of their passing plays, they had multiple receivers in the same area, (execution) were incredibly predictable, gave up on the run at the wrong time, had zero plays targeting the middle distance 10-20 yards in other than the most obvious situations. In their 3 receiver sets, they ran too often trying to out scheme rather than out play the defense.

          • Bender McLugh

why can’t it be both? Cutler shit the bed in the first quarter and Loggains does NOTHING to stem the flow of shit by calling 5-7 step drops. Unacceptable.

          • Irish Sweetness

Yah. Turning over the ball 6 times means you lose. End of. To point at the OC is wrong, regardless.

          • Irish Sweetness

Fox doesn’t seem to be calling shit though, I mean what’s his job for us?

        • Irish Sweetness

I’m surprised Whitehair adapted so quickly in the end. He was very shaky at the start. Draft a LT and we might have something. Massie must be relegated to the bench.

          • Big Mike

I liked Whitehair from the jump. Watched him in college, saw a lot of his draft film. He was my favorite pick in the draft. He’s another Kyle Long. The fact that he didn’t even play C in college, his natural position is G, but he excelled at T in C says he’s a football guy that gets the job done. Tough, good technique, good attitude, coachable, good strength, good speed.

      • Irish Sweetness

He had EXACTLY a hundred yards rushing, and that was including naughty time on the bench.

        • SC Dave

          On 15 carries.

    • Scharfinator

The playcalling did boggle me as well. Cutler was shitting the bed and they kept doing stupid shit. WHHHHHHYYYYYY

      • Big Mike

All mojo used on Cubs. Cutler looked lethargic. The team looked real good in q-1. They had some pop on defense. The offense looked a bit out of sync, but physically, they were manhandling the Bucs.

        • MB30SD

It’s not the diabeeetus, it’s the cutler

    • Irish Sweetness

HQJ got an interception! Porter is a liability on this team, he’s toasted every single week. The man cannot run. But Callahan and Hall will be back. I like Hall, a lot. Nobody else does for some reason. He’ll get better. Second year safeties are getting a pass for being second year safeties – we had no pass rush for a long time, remember, and Vic Fangio has no balls.

      • Big Mike

Secondary gets no pass. They are awful. There were at least 4 completely blown coverages, of which TB only scored on 1. Still can’t cover a tight end after the LB carries him through the zone. Still 5 yards to deep. This was the Bucaneers. They are awful.

  • carlito

I believe Jay was not fully healed as far as strength of grip of the football goes or he might have injured it last game just enough to play or throw as bad as he did, there was something physically wrong but that offensive coordinator needs to be fired right now, I see how he has played a major

    • SC Dave

A bad hand does not cause stupid decisions.

      • MB30SD

Time to move on from doooonnnnt caaare Jay Dave. You and I both know this.

        • Bender McLugh

          yesterday solidified him leaving Chicago.

          • MB30SD

I hope so. Rather have the destroyer give us a chance to with with a steadily improving D, than have cutter flip flop per game from winning it convincingly to abjectly shitting the bed… It’s demoralizing to everyone in the org… Including the fans

          • CanadaBear

Totally agree except about the part about the Destroyer. You know Pace will pick a QB in next year’s draft and try to get a 3-year grace period.

          • SC Dave

            I hope Shaw is okay.

          • MB30SD

Oh, I’m good with that, just roll with the destroyer in the interim.

Fuck jay cutler. Done with rollercoasters. MUCH rather have 300 yards, 2 TDs, and 0 TOs and let the D and specials try to improve and make up the diff than have culter throw a great game giving us all false hipe just to crush everyone’s hopes the very next game. fucking absurd.

    • Irish Sweetness

Last week was the best-called game I’ve seen since the 1980s and Bill Walsh.

Whose decision was it to ‘punish’ Howard though? In support of a Loggains firing is our position at the bottom of the NFL scoring table. Against it would be a new system for Jay et al to learn, and we don’t even know if Jay will be around next season. I’d keep Foxy and jettison Pace, except that his money is guaranteed. I just wonder if Cutty was using his ‘second play’ a lot, and checking out of runs when he ‘saw something’ in the defense. If he’s changing plays and then not producing … .he would certainly need to go. He’s not Jim McMahon on the audibles. If you change the play, you’d better be right.

      • SC Dave

Not sure he was punished. Jordan did limp off the field – maybe they wanted to spare it?

  • carlito

there is something deeply wrong here, if the running game is your strong suit then why abandon it as soon as you get behind and a poor team plays better using it’s best weapon, the thing about this young team is once things start going bad it gets out of hand, I blame this on John Fox not stepping in and making that idiot call running plays John Fox is not coaching what so ever, he can’t coach anymore

    • Irish Sweetness

They pulled Howard after his ‘fumble’. As Howard fell forward – it was his second 10+ yard first down run in a row – he was protecting himself with one arm which was not enclosing the ball, and therefore no four points of contact. A brilliant Peanut Punch came in from behind and the ball was stripped. It happens. But to teach him a lesson (smirks), they go with Carey and Langford, who can’t do what Jordan does.

We were running the ball at will yesterday, and for some reason decided to stop. Bellifat is right – the HC shouldn’t give up control of the play-calling. If any of us was calling plays yesterday, we win that game.

  • Huge Bears Penis

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • SC Dave

You know what’s worst about this? The Viking and Packers BOTH LOST; we could have had even greater false hope!

      • MB30SD

Packers got their asses beat even a bit worse than us. Cunts

      • Irish Sweetness

Yup, we win yesterday and you’re actually back on track, with a divisional tie-breaker over the Vikes.

  • MB30SD

    Bewildering?!?! Really?? Why?

Pretty standard stuff really… Summers in Rangoon…

    • SC Dave

      Pretty standard indeed.

      • MB30SD

        standard dogshit dumpsterfire

  • willbest

Jeff’s hatred of Cutler on twitter is pretty amazing. I so hope Cutler throws for 5 TDs and no TOs next week so I can see him go back to the other extreme in the span of 7 days.

    • Big Mike

Jeff is long standing Cutler advocate. Yesterday Jeff was on the mark.

      • willbest

Which is why his hatred is amazing, but also why he will be capable of swinging back the other way quickly. I didn’t see anything yesterday that convinced me Cutler is any worse than he has always been, and I didn’t see anything two weeks ago that convinced me he was any better than he has always been.

I was just surprised to see this game against this opponent because usually he saves these types of performances for New England or Green Bay

        • Big Mike

I did. Cutler always plays with heart. Yesterday, nada.

          • Irish Sweetness

He was under pressure though, having lost the right side of his line. No passes for OL trouble?

On the flip side. The Bucs had a center starting in his first game, and Winston looked like Joe Fucking Montana yesterday.

          • Big Mike

Not really. No more than normal. He was just awful. He was sailing balls, every ball was low. If you watch the trajectory of every pass he threw, the nose of the ball was down.

          • CanadaBear

After 7.5 years of this merry-go-round, no more excuses. This shit is played out and done. He’s gone.

          • Big Mike

            yep. burn it down.

        • MB30SD

No he doesn’t will, that’s bullshit… You never know when he’s going to be either. They both come just as easily and you never know when which will happen. That’s the frustration

And hatred… Come one dude. Everyone’s just sick of the ride… We’re all ready to puke cotton candy into the nearest trashcan

    • Irish Sweetness

      Don’t keep him:

The thing is, he could well do that. He’s occasionally brilliant – like last week, and occasionally a liability, like Sunday. We need to draft a QB anyway, and now we’ll have the pick to go after the likes of Kizer – the only question is whether or not we’ll have another pick in the first round. That’s up to us. There are quite a few teams that would give up a first for Cutty. There only needs to be one.

      Keep him:

I can’t remember Cutty ever having a left tackle worth a damn. We could get one in the off-season, and if Cutty’s here next year – with healthy DBs and a new pass-rusher for depth – we have a chance of being pretty good. He had a bad day yesterday – is his thumb okay, we don’t know. We could trade him, and to get a first is a decent achievement and we can turn that into a decent OT … ore try and win a Lombardi next season. I’d like the Lombardi. One season only.

      • CanadaBear

He won’t even bring a supplemental pick Irish. Nobody is trading for him. Everyone knows the Bears are cutting ties with him after the season.

        • Irish Sweetness

He has another year on his contract at least I thought?

NYJ don’t have a QB. Houston have a crappy QB. I don’t buy the Wentz hype yet. Cleveland seem to have found their starter. JAX might kick the tires on Cutty. Arizona. Minny? He ripped them apart.

How would Dak Prescott have fared behind the lines Cutty’s had, I wonder? Football isn’t hard when you have 7 seconds to throw the football.

He’s better than his record, and somebody would give up a first, certainly a second. Someone always needs a QB.

          • willbest

He has nothing left on his contract in terms of guaranteed. He is however very affordable the next 2 years, assuming you get his historical average, and he hasn’t as Big Mike suspects quit.

          • CanadaBear

Why would someone trade for him when they can just wait the Bears out?

          • willbest

It depends on how he performs. If he shows you he is Jay Cutler, its cheaper to give the Bears a 2nd rounder for him than it is to have the Bears cut him and negotiate a new deal where you pay him 17.5 million a year and guarantee him 30 million.

          • CanadaBear

Nobody is doing any such thing. The guy’s rep around the league is toxic waste. He’s in his mid 30’s, is just as likely to shit the bed as be brilliant, he can’t stay healthy, his W/L is the definition of avg at best and he’s not exactly a coaches dream to handle. Will some team sign him next year for Fitz money or less? Probably. Nobody is giving him the going rate for a good QB. Why would they?

      • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

with Loggains as OC? long shot

      • Cutler gets sacked cuz he has NO POCKET PRESENCE.

How many times does he get strip sacked? See that yesterday when he was in the redzone, or endzone. ZERO pocket awareness. Leads to more sacks. (Funny how Hoyer doesn’t get sacked as much even though he’s not mobile at all)

We got Brees’ LT. Good under Brees. Meh under Cutler.

        Why? Cuz Cutler is Meh.

Cutler holds on to the ball too long.

Sometimes this leads to big plays. Other times, see Bucs.

Good QBs make their Oline better. Guys with quick releases, high-tight motions, knowledge of Ds, reads, and progressions, who can feel the pressure and step up, throw it away, or at least cover up while getting sacked.

        That is not Cutler.

He’ll NEVER be that guy on a consistent basis, and as such, our Oline “will suck” as long as he’s under center.

Also, other teams would KILL for our Oline yesterday.

Leno is solid. Sitton and Long PBs. Whitehair perhaps the best rook C since Travis Frederick.

Massie not great at pass block, but good in run. Also, can TE chip to help him.

Our Oline (with backups) dominated the Vikes D.

        No excuses.

        • SC Dave

I’ve been saying the pocket presence thing for YEARS around here.

        • SC Dave

“Good QBs make their Oline better. Guys with quick releases, high-tight motions, knowledge of Ds, reads, and progressions, who can feel the pressure and step up, throw it away, or at least cover up while getting sacked.”

This is what made Peyton Manning so fucking good.

          • Huge Bears Penis

There is a reason Manning was so good, it is the same reason he had a ginormous forehead, Manning was a mental cyborg. He did not have a neck injury that got him out of Indy, that was just a cover up, true reason was he was having a hardware failure, and it took multiple surgeries to fix.

    • MB30SD

Not me, what a waste. Dude’s a shit show. Enough already. Time to move on, this rollercoaster makes me sick to my stomach

      • willbest

You are keeping him the rest of the season. I don’t know what else to tell you about that. Maximizing entertainment is all that is left.

        • MB30SD

Oh, I don’t give a fuck about this season. So over it all and doooooonnnn’tttt caaaaaare. we’re talking future here

      • Sauron’s right eyeball

I’ve heard that when a good looking women rubs a mans tummy, amazing things can happen.

        • MB30SD

don’t like my tummy rubbed. other things though.

  • BillW

Throughout his career there have been many times I could not help but wonder if Jay’s diabetes is any factor. His “don’t care” attitude I’ve been told could be a coping mechanism. His incredible lapses in judgement.

Not making excuses. But when he performs so incredibly bad and all he can say is “I have to play better”, it just sounds like there is something more.

    • Irish Sweetness

He has a 9-3 record in primetime games though, disabling the diabetes theory. Or does it?

      • Huge Bears Penis

nope- could mean he had all day to get his levels stable.

        • BillW

I would add, without any real basis I acknowledge, that the coaches never seem to be as frustrated or upset as one would think. They certainly aren’t going to say it’s health related – especially if they want to get something for him in trade.

You’d think that after a QB sucked that badly, there would be more said. Maybe I’m just reading into it the way I want to, but someday I we just might hear it was in fact an issue.

          • CanadaBear

I’m sure it’s an issue but it’s a Big Boy League and nobody cares.

          • If it was truly health related, different regimes wouldn’t give him so many chances.

But the fact that Angelo/Emery/Pace gave him more than ample opportunity leads me to believe it’s in his head, not his blood.

  • Bender McLugh

“If you watched the Bears play yesterday and thought, “Man, this is on coaching” then we simply don’t watch the same sport.”

Incorrect, we just have a difference of opinion. This loss was 100% on Cutler until Loggains refused to change the play calls. That’s what it seemed to me, watching the same sport, sir.

    • CanadaBear

Coming off a bye week, as healthy as they have been all year, an opponent that hadn’t won a game at home in about a year … that ain’t all on the players.

    • Irish Sweetness

I thought Jay gets two plays in his ear, he has a choice of two run/pass or so I believed.

      • willbest

That was the trestman strategy I thought. I think Gase and Birdcage are more you run X, unless you see the D doing Y, then check to Z

    • Big Mike

Exactly. But Isn’t loggains a coach? It was a disaster across the board.

    • SC Dave

That sounds about right. But I’ll watch it again, if I can stand it.

      • Bender McLugh

yeah I agree – by no means do I give Cutler any slack on his shit-show that lasted into the 4th with bad passing, but there was no adjustment to go back to run-heavy play calling

        • I think Loggains was trying to get Cutler out of a funk.

Kinda like in Top-Gun when they kept sending Maverick up after Goose died.

          But the results got worse.

And by then, they HAD to throw cuz they were 26 down, and Barkley the only other option.

          Fucked all around.

  • Huge Bears Penis

Pace and his scouts should be scouring the college ranks to find a QB, they should be looking everywhere. I want to see reports that a scout was at Hillbilly West Texas State, Jesuit Missionary University for the Blind, and every fucking Clown College out there looking at QBs. Not just the major schools they better be digging deep to find something.

    • Irish Sweetness

A large … black …. man …. described as ‘athletic’. This we know.

      • Scharfinator

        Explosive too

        • SC Dave

          Don’t forget awareness.

    • willbest

I want John Goodman’s Babe Ruth “I like to throw Touchdowns”

    • I heard Jesuit Missionary for the Blind has some gems this year.

      • Huge Bears Penis

their field vision is a little lacking but they got some ballers out there.

  • willbest

Well shit, NFL ratings this weekend were pretty good, we might not be able to get rid of Rodger after all.

    • midwaybears

That’s what happens when you have Cowboys @ Steelers and Seahawks @ Patriots on tap within a six-hour time frame.

      • willbest

They also had the advantage of being pretty decent games.

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

Cutler and Loggains as well, why did he stop running the ball? TB had no answers to stop Howard.. as a remarkable job he did against vikings was a total whack yesterday.

    • Irish Sweetness

He had a 6.7 yard average and a hundred yard game, spending a deal of it on the naughty bench. Cutler never threw him a pass.

      • SC Dave

That’s because he threw 5 times to Langford, who *did* catch 4 of them.
        For a mighty 10 yards.

  • Weed Superman (GP)
    • BillW

      Which guy? Jay or Potash?

Fox reaction really lends some credence to it being Jay’s health – though I guess in a kind of conspiracy way.

    • CanadaBear

      Cutler or Potash?

      • Weed Superman (GP)

I don’t know. Fuck them all.

      • MB30SD

        both?

  • Bernie Cohen

Last week you said Cutler had a good game. This week he stinks. Only leads me to the conclusion that he stinks.

    • CanadaBear

Inconsistent for sure. I wish he did stink all the time. The Bears would have unloaded him a long time ago and spared us the aggravation.

      • Sauron’s right eyeball

Nobody ever said fools gold couldn’t look good to a poor man. Cutty has always been Chicago’s fools gold.

        • MB30SD

          denver’s too.

Even though mcdouche might be a total dickbag, he’s not dumb and he knows a shitshow when he sees one.

    • Irish Sweetness

Which would be a good example of cognitive bias, Bernie …. when evidence in the first sentence supports the opposite view.

  • Irish Sweetness

Diabetes is the number two killer in Mexico. I did not know that.

Conor McGregor will be the number one when he hits Acapulco.

  • Irish Sweetness
    • Scharfinator

If only he could throw too…

      • willbest

We don’t know he can’t. We should find out. Lets wildcat this shit.

        • MB30SD

          why the fuck not?!?

    • Sauron’s right eyeball

      Langford had an 8.0. Ypc.

      • SC Dave

Langford ran twice, once for 13 yards from the Bears 17 yard line with 23 seconds left in the first half, and one time against a non-prevent defense for 3 yards.

Howard, on the other hand, had the following runs:

so the verdict is in – Cutty Sark is a damn fine blended Scotch whiskey. I may need to make it a staple for game day to ensure I get through the season.

    • Huge Bears Penis

I think i have 10 bottles of it. I am not a big scotch fan, but the distributors always seemed to want to give me a promotional bottle when I used to own a bar, it never sold for shit at the bar.

  • Dear, Cutlerites.

I know you’re still out there in the underground networks of Iwo jima with a flag made of cargo shorts, burning cigs like incense, sacrificing honeybadgers, and refraining the mantra, “doooooont carreeeee”

But plz, I HOPE yesterday has disillusioned you of any remaining Cuttytopic visions you may have still been clinging to.

    IT’S. OVER.

Canada mentioned that his moment of clarity came when Cutler threw it to a big fat Bills DT. Some like SC probably had their moment of clairty much sooner.

Mine came this year after that Philly game and Mcphee screaming in his face was the collective unconscious of millions of Bears fans finally breaking.

Yes, MOMENT OF CLARITY, as in, if you STILL somehow believe in Cutler after yesterday, you’re either drunk or pathological.

If Cutler performs like that when the team is 2-6, against one of the worst Ds, at an “away” venue that had more Bear than Buc fans, coming off a bye with perhaps the healthiest squad and momentum, a full complement of weapons, on a sunny day, then how in the HELL do you think he’s going to do when it really matters in much worse circumstances?

    CHRIS FUCKING CONTE. PICK 6.

Just let that sink in for a bit. Like, walk away from the keyboard, make yourself a coffee, and just replay that over and over again. Let it simmer. Let all the Conte juices drip into your brain, drench your very soul.

CHRIS FUCKING CONTE. The condor. PICK 6

Remember that final scene in Skyfall when archvillain Silva enters the church, and says, “Of course. It had to be here. It had to be this way” and then puts a gun to M’s head with his own next to it?

Now recast Silva as Conte and your Cutler fantasy as M.

    JUST PULL THE TRIGGER.

    End the misery.

    IT HAD TO BE CONTE.

For some of you, that’s what it takes.

For some drunks, getting a DUI is the moment of clarity. For others, it’s after they end up sucking bum cock for a shot of Nyquil.

Conte is your grimy bum cock.

Hopefully you don’t like the taste. (NTTAWWT?)

So, I beg of you, as a fellow Bears fan and Blog reg.

For your own sake, PULL THE TRIGGER.

End your Cutty addiction. Surrender. Surrender to a higher power (Bears’ future).

Go through the stages. Denial. Anger. Bargaining. Depression. Acceptance.

You’ll thank me for it. In the end, you’ll thank Conte for it.

The world will renew, and life itself will be a myriad of possibilities and poon.

    Sincerly,

    —————-Every recovering Cutlerite.

    • willbest

Pull the trigger on what? I am not a long lost McCaskey or part of Pace’s inner circle. Yeah the game is infuriating. It was infuriating where he had more completions to that one Skins DB than any of our receivers a few years back. And then he does what he did against GB on Thanksgiving. Every year I hope the team is headed to the playoffs, and every year I am disappointed they aren’t a team that can compete, but outside of 2011 when he broke his thumb, the Bears haven’t been 1 QB from winning it all.

And yeah TB sucked, but Minny was awesome. I don’t really feel like watching Hoyer’s 1-4 run where the only team we beat was the one that started a concussed QB because the team has no spark.

      • MB30SD

you keep forgetting as the D gets healthier and better (something it wasn’t while he was at the helm), his no-mistake game super tight losses might just become wins. As the D gets better and better and specials improve, so does the sound of 300 yards, 2 TDs, ZERO TOs…

        Apples to apples yo.

        end it. pull the trigger.

        • willbest

Our defense didn’t stop our offense from getting into the endzone, the pile of shit D’s of Indy and Jax did. Unless we get some ballhawks back there and an ST/D that is going to score 9 TDs in a season like the days of Lach in the gang, we need something else at the helm than 300 yards, 2 TDs and zero TOs

          • You’re still in denial.

            It’s OK.

            SHhhh.

            Just pull the trigger.

          • willbest

No I am pretty certain I know exactly what Hoyer has to offer. I don’t know what Glennon or Shaw or Fales has to offer other than nobody is letting 2 of those 3 on the field.

          • MB30SD

            Oh, you mean like

            53.3
            182
            1
            2
            55.1

Yes, fuck that noise. Over it.

let me say it one more time Will…. You can’t build around total andd abject bipolar dysfunction. you just can’t. you never know what you’ll get and you simply can’t.

But you can plan around 300/2/0…

simply get a good-to-excellent FG kicker and you’ve just upped your chance to win substantially. Tighten up specials and keep improving our D and all of a sudden, you’ve just become a 9-7 or 10-6 team year in year out.

I’ll take that any day over rollercoaster jay and his shitshow.

        • And some ppl were saying, “Of course he got saftied, you can’t expect him to do a 99 yd drive!”

Well, maybe not, but how about this?

          DON’T GET SAFTIED.

Maybe make a first down or two, then punt it.

And for the record, Hoyer had a 94 yd TD drive, the longest in like 6 years.

It only took him 4 games to do that.

How long has Cutler been here?

          • SC Dave

            96 yards, I believe.

          • willbest

I have never proclaimed Cutler’s turnovers behind him. I have never thought he could reinvent himself at 30. I merely have maintained that he is better than the alternatives. Which isn’t exactly an inspiring level of support.

I also am here to prevent Butch from pretending that Cutler somehow isn’t Pace’s QB.

“Take that play away and Cutler was 15-of-27 for 132 yards and two interceptions,” Pro Football Focus’ Sam Monson wrote.
“That’s a passer rating of 37.9, or worse than if he had just dropped
back and thrown the ball at the ground every play.”

      ————

And let’s not forget the Bortlesque stat padding when they were down by 26.

    • BillW

I’m pretty much over Cutler like everyone else – but I don’t see what you’re seeing in the article.

“One of those players also told Freeman that Cutler’s lack of preparation during the week leading up to the game was “truly embarrassing.””

If this is even close to being true, then Fox needs to be fired immediately.

But I somehow I think there is more to the story. Jay has often shown poor skills and judgement, but I never ever remember him pulling a Cade McNown.

      • SC Dave

Wow… what a bizarre comment. Fox fired for that? Now, fired for not benching Cutler maybe, but is he supposed to go with Barkley?

        And 5’9″ is fucking average!!!!

    • Sauron’s right eyeball

It feels like Christmas doesn’t it?

  • I know this is gonna sound crazy, but I don’t think we should draft a QB, not if Fox is still HC next season.

Look at what’s happening in L.A.

    The Rams last year traded

    Tennessee gets: Rams’
    first-round pick (2016), two second-round picks (2016), a third-round
    pick (2016), a first-round pick (2017) and another third-round pick
    (2017).

Granted, they were selecting at #15, so it might not cost the Bears that much, but it’ll still hurt for years to come.

And on top of that, Fisher might get fired.

So now the Rams must theoretically look for a new coach, and this new coach must not only be OK with being neutered in future drafts, but must also believe Goff is a franchise QB.

That’s baggage a lot of top HC candidates don’t like (It’s like marrying a chick with 2 baby daddies, or none. Which would you prefer?)

On top of that, the next QB class doesn’t seem strong by most accounts.

I don’t think we can invest that much on what might be a lame-duck coach.

Now, if you wanna argue that the Bears should spend a lower draft pick on a QB, OK.

I know everyone has Dak in mind, but those tend to be aberrations.

    It’s far more likely we’ll end up with a Krenzle/LeFevour/Enderle than a Dak/Romo/ Brady.

And again, a possibly lame duck HC will be selecting him.

I think if Fox is still HC next season, then we gotta roll with Hoyer/Shaw and bring in someone else to truly compete.

Maybe Mike Glennon or someone along those lines.

However, if Fox is not around, and it’s an entirely new coaching staff, then all bets are off.

Though like I said, it seems like a weak QB class.

Might be better off with Hoyer/Shaw and drafting this guy, and go from there

  • midwaybears

Have fun in France Jeff, I’ll be there next week. Also we really need to be rooting for Cleveland, San Francisco, and Jacksonville, especially given that Alshon is basically done.

  • BearDown100393

    Meredith, you are up.

  • EnderWiggin

So, during garbage time, Howard gets put back in after being benched and then suffers an ‘ankle/Achilles injury’.

This season is slowly becoming 2014. All we need now is to give up a couple 50 burgers.

The Jeffery suspension could be a blessing in disguise. Now is the perfect time to lock him up for the next 3-6 years.

    • Scharfinator

Yeah, I was thinking that too. Sign him for cheaaaaaaaap

      • MB30SD

        sure, that’ll happen.

        He doesn’t give a fuck he’s suspended.

        • EnderWiggin

          • MB30SD

no, he doesn’t give a fuck that he got popped… full price bitches!

    • In some ways, this is kinda good news for me.

The knock on Alshon was that he was soft and lacked desire.

If he was taking PEDs, this kinda signals to me that he does give a fuck, and is trying to stay healthy.

      • EnderWiggin

You think that avatar of Cunte is supposed to bug me? Oh, how you forget. I was on the keep Conte bandwagon! (even after the blown assignment) In fact, I think he’d pair up nicely with Amos…

    • Malice Halice

      Howard’s down?

      • According to Howard, he wasn’t hurt.

I think he just got benched for fumbling, and Fox made up some BS about inj to maybe spare Howard the criticism.

        Billichick doesn’t do that.

He cut Blount. Blount later came back, and hasn’t fumbled since.

I just want all of the jokers currently running the team to be fired. ASAP. This is even worse than 2014. We were trying to win in 2014. This is a rebuild (and a shitty one at that), even if the team won’t actually say the word. And we’re still moving backwards! The Bears are now what the Cubs were 5 years ago – a joke.

Apologies if this has been posted already:
    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/11/14/chris-conte-really-enjoyed-beating-the-bears/

“I hate to make it personal, but for me it is personal,” Conte said, via the Chicago Tribune. “It feels great. I don’t want to say, ‘F— you, Chicago.’ But, I want to say, ‘F— you, Chicago.’”

    • CanadaBear

Like Chicago fans were unfair to him. Bears fans are some of the worst but I don’t remember them being unfair. He deserved the boos.

      • BillW

Absolutely. As a whole, the Bear players that get consistent wrath deserve it. Conte – McNown – others

        • CanadaBear

I thought Rex took way more shit than he deserved. He wasn’t the answer but the fans were brutal. First incomplete pass in training camp and he got booed loudly. That’s a tad harsh.

        • Weed Superman (GP)

          No Bill.

Conte played his ass off. He had glass shoulders and missed assignments, but he played his ass off and cared.

As you can see from the linked video, he was assigned to jump the curl.

Bears fans did NOT care. They torched him.

I would be like, fuck Chicago, as well.

          • CanadaBear

Not sure where you’re going with all this Conte stuff but the guy sucked horribly. Instincts were non-existent, took terrible angles constantly and was made of glass. Not saying he wasn’t giving his all but this is the pros, ya gotta produce.

      • Weed Superman (GP)

The story is he was coached and correct to come up and crash the line on the play that the Packers went for the TD and made it.

Conte was excoriated. On the blog. In the press. I think Rosendoom wanted his balls cut off.

Conte was unhappy about taking the hit on that play. And the coaches left him high and dry when this shit went down:

I knew he was hurt. Gronk still played that game too and is only gonna miss a week.

    Crazy.

    • Huge Bears Penis

      ‘Tis but a flesh wound.

    • MB30SD

      pussy

  • Sauron’s right eyeball

I’m still trying to figure out why Jeff needed 7 sentences to sum up the game. It must be a special number for him.

    • Sactowns#1

Should have just gone with 6 reasons, and the reasons are all number 6.

  • SC Dave

Well, I watched about as much of the replay as I could stand.
A couple of things I have not mentioned.

    1) I don’t see how the safety is called a fumble, and Winston losing the ball near the end of the first half is incomplete. The plays did not appear substantively different.

    2) Forgive my ignorance, but can pass interference be called on a play downfield AFTER the ball has been tipped by a defending player? Freeman was called that way, or so it appeared (and NO, I refuse to watch again to confirm!)

    3) Our secondary does not cover people very well.

    4) Our run defense is pretty good.

    • Secondary is a bit spotty, but they got in trouble when Winston began scrambling.
Not many can cover players for that long.

Our rushers needed to take better angles and wrap up.

Think they sniffed sack and just charged in like a virgin on prom night.

Gotta be more fundamentally sound when coming in to take a big quick QB.

ODB just did the fucking thriller. Awesome

    • Huge Bears Penis

better fine him. that’s a scary dance and offensive to zombies

    • Shady

Yes, and with that touchdown ODB seals the victory for shady and multiple scorgasms in a fierce battle with the league leading and defending champ Butch…

      • MB30SD

        Oh well…. Heeeerroooooooo

      • Ugh. I hated having to start Alex Smith, and Cutler screwed my Bears D!

Oh well. It took 150+ to beat me both times, so I can’t whine too much.

Hopefully I get some Artoo revenge next week.

With 10 children, (Tim, her second oldest, passed away in 2011 at the age of 66), McCaskey said she is confident the Bears will be owned by her heirs long after she is gone. In fact, she quotes her son Pat and says the team will remain in the family “until the second coming.”

    Fuck. I hope not.

    • MB30SD

      Sigh.

  • AlbertInTucson

    France?

    I can hear it now:

“Bonjour, Monsieur Hughes! Les Ours sucer!”

  • Joecashflow

This feels like I “think” it might feel if I took home a beautiful lady, woke up with a lady boy and jumped out of bed to wiz, thinking damn that Thai beer sure makes my ass sore.

  • Joecashflow

    Henry Burris imitation

  • Joecashflow

“One should not make leaps about Cutler’s future in Chicago off one performance – good or bad.” Sorry, Jeff, but I’ve been watching 8 years of this shit. Expectations followed by adjunct massive disappointment and embarrassment.

  • willbest

Alright, I have to go back to the greatest football movie of all time for some inspiration (or there abouts)

  • MB30SD

Burfict is a total stud btw

    • willbest

If you can handle him being suspended for 4-8 games a season

      • MB30SD

And he gets more tackles etc… In the 8-12 games than most imlb get in 16, soooo

  • Joecashflow

I was sickened by the post game. First Fox gives bullshit.. I liked certain things, didn’t expect this. Well he should expect this when he doesn’t coach them up. And second Cutler using the “We” word. Coward.

    • AlbertInTucson

I gave up watching the pressers.

I expect nothing and even THAT expectation is too high.

  • AlbertInTucson

Hmm. Another entaining prime Time game.

    How’d THAT happen?

    • Huge Bears Penis

refs still have time to screw it up.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Andy “Pinata” Dalton.

  • Irish Sweetness

So everyone is 100% sure that Cutty’s thumb is okay and had nothing to do with those INTs?

He had a great season last season, start the new season well, play brilliantly last week … and NOW he’s shit?

    • SC Dave

Oh please. This is the exact Cutler we’ve known for eight years.

      • Big Mike

No SC Dave it isn’t. The results might be similar, but his throwing angle was off. I’m not starting a save Cutler movement, but the flight path on his throws was definitely off.

  • Irish Sweetness

    ALSHON GOT BUSTED!!!?

FML. Should have shifted AJ and Cutty when they were worth something. F**k this.

    • Big Mike

I’d say the way he played yesterday, he stopped taking the PEDs sometime during the break.
