      Happy holidays brethren.

I’ll take the loss please, Santa, and week 17 too if it isn’t too much.

      (ducks)

      • Big Mike

For all the talk (and I’ve been on board) about losing and getting the better draft pick, I still want to beat the Redskins. I know, I know.. It could drop us 2-3-4 draft slots. But I live in DC and will be watching with a bunch of skins fans.

        • MB30SD

          Too hollow a victory mike

          • Big Mike

Same to you MB. 2017 Return of the Monsters. NFC North Champs.

          • MB30SD

Thanks Mike… And a girl can dream

        • CanadaBear

Totally get it but I’m with MB, juuuuuuuuuuuuuuust a little bit short of victory.

          • Big Mike

Yeah.. I know. But if you were surrounded by annoying Redskins fans you might feel different. So in one way, I can’t lose today.

    • Big Mike

Is Peppers your choice in the first round? Some say he’s not a defensive playmaker and is raw in coverage. Isn’t the better choice the top CB? Who might also be able to cut his teeth at free safety and move over? BTW, what’s your take on the Bears calling Fuller out? I’ve never seen anything like this. In the NFL when a player is cleared to play, they play. But for Fangio and Fox to basically say he’s a pussy in a press conference, wow. That either means those guys know which way their future is turning out with the Bears. They either know they’re gone and are saying screw it (I doubt this), or they know they’ve got time to fix the stinking secondary.

      • MB30SD

I don’t know Mike. I just haven’t heard much or done any research about anyone else at this point. My opinion will probably change 5 or 20 times until our pick is next up.

I know we’ll almost have our pick of the litter.

I just want a 10 yr pro bowler and massive difference maker, and I think we need it in the D backfield most. We have guys like McPhee and Hicks and Floyd on the line, Freeman and Tre (hopefully) at backer, but we gots nada at DB. We need that guy.

Don’t know if peppers is that guy, but right now he’s the one I’ve watched a lot and he can most certainly be a difference maker… Check his highlight reel above

        • Internet Smug Prick #9 (GP)

Peppers would be best served as our FS.

He has 4.3 speed and can HIT, he’s big enough to play LB for the WOlverines. He can return kicks.

He would be Clinton-Dix with more speed, a bit of Hester and Dix together

          • MB30SD

Yup! As of right now (pre research) he looks like the guy

        • Big Mike

Well, fire up the research department, because I can’t tell one of these guys from the other. Not just this year, but any year. I can recognize a Strong Safety (really fast, small LB with good hip turn, back pedal and football IQ). Corners and FS all look the same. Except for the tall slow white ones that Emery liked. I knew those guys would suck.

      • CanadaBear

Unless the surgeon botched the arthroscopic surgery, it’s almost inconceivable he hasn’t returned to the field. Typically guys only need 3-4 weeks to get back up and running. Fangio had to be beyond frustrated to call him out. Can’t say that I blame him for being frustrated.

        • Big Mike

Unheard of. Afraid that his performance won’t be as good as his “potential” Reminds me of Derick Rose, the year the Bulls battled to the conference finals, with Joakim playing on feet that were practically broken, Luol Deng playing with a badly sprained knee and one other guy was hurt. Meanwhile Rose was cleared to play, but didn’t “feel comfortable”.

        • MB30SD

Fuller is a pussy, fuck that guy. Next!!!

          • CanadaBear

Other than kickers/punters I really hate to call anyone in the NFL a pussy. I might have to make an exception for Fuller if he doesn’t ever play again for the Beloved.

      • Sauron’s right eyeball

Is it prudent to defer to the Bears scouting dept.? Eye do believe they WILL finally shit me a QB.

“Chicago Bears: Mitch Trubisky, QB, North Carolina

The Bears need to move on from Jay Cutler and begin to rebuild around a new signal caller. Trubisky might have only one season of experience, but he shows all the traits necessary to be successful in the NFL”

        • willbest

Barkley also has 1 season of experience, but its in the NFL.

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

So what’s wrong with drafting his future hall of famer aprentice. That’s how it’s done boyo.

          • Big Mike

Not sold on any of this years QBs. The kid from Clemson, the other one and the Trubinski.

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

Then also shit me a star studded O-line as well.

          • willbest

There is a Wisconsin tackle available. He seems legit. Don’t think he is top 10 material though.

          • Big Mike

Yeah, that would be nice. I see this from all angles. I’ve read that this draft has very good top end talent at CB and good depth. I’ve heard the QB class is relatively meh…

            1) You take a QB (if he fits your offense) because hopefully you won’t have a chance to draft in the top 5 for a long time.

            2) You fix a decade long problem by taking 2 DBs early (CB/FS)

            3) You take the best OT in the first and a CB in the second.
            4) the most difficult scenario, you’re sitting on somebodies dream pick and they’ll pay (overpay) you with draft picks.

I don’t have a favorite scenario, because the truth is what I want is a 10 year+ pro-bowl level player.

          • Irish Sweetness

Next year’s draft looks like a doozy though.

          • Big Mike

The other thing we will be drafting at the top of every round.

        • Big Mike

Moving on from Cutler and taking Trubisky are not tied to each other. I’m all for moving on from Cutler, or keeping him. Is Trubisky the next guy? I don’t know. He looks slow, looks like he needs great protection and so on. I trust Fox and his scouting department. But I’d rather fix the secondary.

          • willbest

            This

          • Irish Sweetness

I’d like to fix the secondary by drafting Allen at DE.

If we’re drafting at 4, 5, or 6, Kizer and Trubisky may very well be gone, and to teams who are not above us in the draft order currently. JAX and CLE look to be ‘happy’ at QB. The Jets need one …. San Diego might think it’s time to get River’s replacement

Looking at Walterfootball’s mock draft, it’s amazing how many CBs they have going in the first round. If we’re not taking Allen then maybe trading down is the thing to do, which would be possible if Trubisky/Kizer are still on the board when we pick.

If we do trade Cutty, maybe that pick turns into a CB?

            GO ‘SKINS!!

          • Big Mike

Yeah, Allen is a nice ball player. Like I said, have to trust Fox. Trading down is hard. The best shot would likely be that one of the QBs slips to us. Then we have to decide.

          • MB30SD

I don’t trust fox to do anything except find the very best pinafuckingcolada

    • CanadaBear

You know he’s coming back. I’m hoping JohnnyW was correct and Fox is just a placeholder. Unless the Beloved get killed with injuries again next year, Fox will have to get to at least 8-8 or that seat will be red hot.

  • CanadaBear

Happy Holidays to all my Bears Brethren. I hope Santa brings us a haul in the 2017 draft and FA. Bear the fuck down and come up just short twice more this season.

  • willbest

“I don’t think that’s true at all. Pace went and got Barkley. If Barkley turns into something it’s a coup for him.” – Jeff

This is correct. Barkley was drafted by Chip Kelly in 2013, traded to Arians in in Sept of 2015 and then cut Sept of 2016. Pace signed him a day later. So Barkley absolutely is somebody Pace got. The safe thing to do would have just been to sign Fales to the PS since he knows the playbook.

That being said Barkley’s first go (5 quarters in Philly) was less than inspiring racking up 5 turnovers. Then again that was Chip Kelly’s offense which he doesn’t seem particularly suited for.

    • CanadaBear

I sure don’t blame Barkley for flaming out in Kelly’s offense. Not to mention, Arians is looking more and more like Mike Tice (didn’t expect that). I’m just glad Pace signed him. Even if he ends up being a career backup, Barkley makes the QB room stronger.

      • Irish Sweetness

How did Arians mes up with Palmer, Fitzgerald, David Johnson and that defense?

        • CanadaBear

5-8-1 with a fairly talented roster. I was furious when Emery picked Nessman over Arians. Now it looks like both of them weren’t great choices (although Nessman is in a league of his own).

Kicking game and pass protection issues during his entire run.

    • AlbertInTucson

Terry Bradshaw tossed 24 INTs as a rookie.

      In EIGHT games.

      And completed less than 40%.

He followed that up in year two with 22 picks

He didn’t crack the 20-TD-Passes-In-A-Season mark until his 8th year in the league.

He was once benched in favor of “Jefferson Street” Joe Gilliam.

He completed less than 50% in 5 of his first 8 seasons.

It’s amazing he lasted long enough to become HOF worthy.

      Just sayin’.

You sir are an amazing wealth of ancient knowledge. The gods must surely be with you. Well done Sir.

        • AlbertInTucson

          Thank you.

          The general knowledge, I retain.

The details requires visits to Pro-Football Reference.com

Even I didn’t realize just how MANY INTs he threw those first 2 seasons.

      • Make RedZone Conv% Great Again

Terry played in a time when you could fucking suck at quarterback and it didn’t matter. Look at the drafts of those days. RB’s and D.

Terry Bradshaw would not make a roster in todays game. Bradshaw and Namath, brutal.

        • Big Mike

He had the intangibles. But his arm was terrible. He was tough as nails, had a high football IQ and nerves of steel.

          • Make RedZone Conv% Great Again

his “intangibles” of throwing interceptions at an insane rate and his completion percentage in the low 50’s required his D and running game to bail him out in virtually every single regular season game and in a large numbers of games he missed in one of the championship seasons the team still won every single game and gave up the least amount of points ever in a 6 game span. Ever.

          • Big Mike

All true. But he won big games, sometimes with big plays. I hear you.

          • AlbertInTucson

Point being, these days, he never could have survived long enough to win those big games.

          • BerwynBomber

Different era though (and I’m not singularly defending Bradshaw) and not as much was known or emphasized about QB play. In fact, the marquee position was RB.

Also QB stats from then are like baseball’s deadball era. They’re just not comparable to today’s game.

All that said, Bradshaw kinda sucked. And along with Stabler, is probably the worst QB ever elected to the HoF. I’ll give Namath a slight pass as he played on some crappy teams.

          • Make RedZone Conv% Great Again

I think the part that bothers me the most is when guys who experienced so much success based on factors that simply don’t apply anymore “analyze” the current guys and throw out bullshit assessments that they themselves could NEVER fulfill.

          • Big Mike

Here’s some perspective. Look at the OL//DL. 85 bears were considered big. Β Their size and weights look like a good HS program.
            Get Outlook for iOS

          • BerwynBomber

Thought Bradshaw was known to have a cannon. It was his accuracy and football IQ that were in question.

          • AlbertInTucson

            Ditto.

          • MB30SD

            Trajectory and awareness

        • AlbertInTucson

HE certainly wouldn’t have lasted in Chicago had the Bears been able to draft him.

          • Make RedZone Conv% Great Again

A big part of me likes the old version of football better when you needed a full team of badasses to win consistently despite individual failings at certain positions. The QB was not the focus, it was the OL,DL,RB’s,DB’s,DE’s,FB’s,LB’s and the quarterback as well. The Steelers embodied that.
Hall of Famers at so many positions.

          • BerwynBomber

One thing he proved that year was durability. I recall him getting clobbered.

          • CanadaBear

Holy crap did he ever take a beating. I can still see Samurai Mike smoking him when Aikman was about 2″ from being flat on the ground. Aikman’s head bouncing off the turf and him getting up trying to figure out whether to fish or cut bait.

Steve Czaban: Redskins 24-23 on a last second Dustin Hopkins FG.

    Andy Pollin: Redskins 34-20

“Showby”: Redskins 38-10 with “20% filled crowd at Soldier Field.”

Redskins have a 6 game winning streak against the Bears.

    Last Bears win: 2003.

    • Big Mike

Fuck the Redskins. Living in DC I can tell you there is about 10% core of die hard Redskins. The rest are bandwagoners. In the elementary schools, middle schools and high schools, I would estimate that less than 1/2 the kids are Skins fans. The most of the rest are Dallas, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, NYJ or NYG fan. The DC Metro area has a population of 6 million or so. 25 years ago it around 4 million. 50% growth. 1 of 3 people is from somewhere else.

      • AlbertInTucson

I would so LOVE for the Bears to kick the ‘Skins all over the Soldier Field Turf today and win going away to crush Washington’s post-season hopes.

        • BerwynBomber

We’re in the minority but I’m with you.

          • Johnnywad

Me too. Losing and early draft choices haven’t exactly been a boon. I want a god damn win.

        • CanadaBear

Rationally I want the Beloved to play great and come up just short. Irrationally I want them to kick the crap out of the skins and make the jagoff owner cry like a school girl.

  • Make RedZone Conv% Great Again

I’m excited to watch the Bears youngsters compete today and to rationalize every single Barkley turnover no matter what.
I don’t give a fuck how we turn the ball over or fail to convert opportunities just as long as it’s not fucking Cutler that Cutler’s our chances.

    • Big Mike

Barkley could throw 4 picks and not get raked over the coals the way Cutler would for 1 pick.

      • Make RedZone Conv% Great Again

I thought that with Cutler gone we would be able to be objective again about what’s happening but it’s not going to be the case.

        • CanadaBear

Johnny it took 8 years to get the fan base to this point. If Barkley is still here in 8 years throwing some picks, the torches and pitchforks will be out again.

          • Make RedZone Conv% Great Again

it’s disingenuous to discount the success that was achieved with so many roster, draft and FA failings and to simply point at some interceptions. The turnovers have to be acknowledged and factored in but for people to make that their sole point of contention with the Bears of recent memory is frustrating to witness.

Also, it’s simply not true that it took “eight years to get the fan base to this point”. Sadly, Cutler has been the scapegoat for every single year of not making the playoffs. Not the fucking sludge that we put on the field at seemingly every other position, just Cutler.

That’s why I want Cutler gone. I want people to see the fucking truth of how badly Angelo and Emery fucked us with our stockpile of talent. Instead we praise 4 turnover games because it wasn’t Jay.

          • CanadaBear

That’s all you see because Cutler is your guy. Most of us blame Glitchy, Emery, Lovie, Nessman, Fox and then go down the line of players. Cutler is the ONLY player on the roster the last 8 years and is the face of the Offense, of course he’s going to get killed.

          • Make RedZone Conv% Great Again

The Bears are my guys and they would have won more with Cutler at the helm if the team was run competently. He was brought in to be a final piece, except Glitchy didn’t even realize he was missing key pieces in other spots…In his 2nd year they were in the NFC Championship. In his 3rd they were headed to the playoffs, in the fourth they missed the playoffs with a 10-6 record.
IN the 4th and 5th they had the worst D in the history of the Bears franchise. In the 6th they were in rebuild mode and in this year same thing.

          • CanadaBear

You make it sound like it was all bad luck and had nothing to do with his play. He shares as much blame as any other player for the last 8 years. For every game he won with his great play, he lost one with horrible play. He’s the most gifted mediocre QB in my lifetime. After 8 years the baby should go out with the bath water.

          • MB30SD

          • CanadaBear

On this we will have to disagree. You make it sound like all of us hated Cutler from the get-go. I backed him for 5 years until he threw the pick to the fat guy in Buffalo (and if you defend that pick you are clinically insane). Lots of regs stuck by him for at least that long. It’s like a long-time mayor in a small town. At some point he’s pissed everyone off at least once and finally gets voted out.

          • Irish Sweetness

The tipping point for me was SF on Thursday night. 4 picks … has us in position to win it at the death …throws another pick.

          • willbest

McCaskey’s have been here longer. And by all account Cutler is a hard worker and the team generally likes him. Really if Williams or Gabe had paned or Martz figured out what a TE was for they would have won one.

I gets it, people tired of being $1 short. Doesn’t meam the $20 in your hand is worthless.

          • CanadaBear

Not sure how you figure if Williams or Carimi pan out the Beloved win one. Same with Martz. I can’t remember Cutler ever having 4 good to great games in a row and the team was never strong enough to win in spite of him.

I always thought — and will always think — that some of Cutty’s TOs would have been forgiven had he been a little more productive; in fact, his old rival Rivers’ norm would have been the best template for Cutty: something like 34 TDs/16 INTs. Problem is we just never saw that level of consistent production from Cutty.

Awesome! I would hate to talk about you in the past tense. Esp since, other than Cutler, we agree almost all the time!!!!!!!!!!!!

          • Make RedZone Conv% Great Again

ha, Cutler is the only thing standing between us Canada. Cutler and the US/Canadian border.

        • MB30SD

          Yep. Keep at it.

I want out by 46… I got 2 and a bit more years. Nose to the fucking grindstone my maings

i figure you need a couple pairs of board shorts, 2 sturdy pairs of aviators, 3 scarves, a couple of linen shirts, a righteous board, some suntan lotion (butter) and a shack on the beach. Your dividends will keep you in asada and taco til you die.

          • MB30SD

Nice Ben! It is in some ways. I was just back in may.

The wilderness is insanely beautiful, but Mugabe has propper fucked that country. Like in the ass no vasoline.

Zimbabwe was once the “breadbasket of southern Africa” now is a total Fucking mess. Really really sad.

          • beninnorcal

True, this was a real long time ago.

Here you go. A star wars based rationale for the non-existence of God on this Christmas Eve.

    http://babylonbee.com/news/god-good-powerful-allow-star-wars-prequels/

  • Totally forgot the games were today.

I have a feeling we’re going to win cuz Bears.

    Win/win – lose/lose?

    • BearDown100393

      Of course the Bears win.

    • Irish Sweetness

At least you remembered. I saw an early post and someone said ‘today’ and I thought they were just jumping the gun.

  • Internet Smug Prick #9 (GP)

    fuck the stands are empty.

    Ginny is probably asleep

    • BearDown100393

      Just asleep?

    • willbest

It’s reasonably warm, its just Christmas eve

  • Internet Smug Prick #9 (GP)

looks like a junior high school game

  • Is there such a narrative of a P wanting revenge on a team that stupidly cut him?

  • Ran right by Floyd.

Floyd, Cousins is likely not keeping the read option, bro.

  • willbest

So we are just sleep walking this one?

    • BerwynBomber

      Looks like it …

    • BearDown100393

      Never.

    • MB30SD

      #weekendatbernies

    • Irish Sweetness

Oh I’m going to enjoy seeing this game through the thread … I’m guessing the F-bomb record will get broken by the 2nd Qtr.

  • BerwynBomber

Run D again looking spotty. Unfortunately we have no pass rush thus far (unlike last week). Not a good combo.

  • DaMurph

Freeman was wrapped up in a bear hug on that touchdown run, wtf

  • just go quick tempo 2 min.

  • willbest

Barkley looks like shit on accuracy today

  • Big Mike

    Look like poo

  • willbest

    Yikes

    • willbest

Usually we save the Quaaludes for halftime

  • BearDown100393

    No worries. We got this.

  • willbest

    He is down

    • DaMurph

When refs miss plays so fucking obvious you have to wonder how they keep their jobs

  • Don’t TOs get reviewed regardless?

  • willbest

He doesn’t need to challenge it gets automatically review

    • #albinoLovie

    • Also, Fox is lucky he didn’t get penalized for challenging something he shouldn’t.
Think that’s in the rule book too.

      • MB30SD

        Guy’s a tool

        • But the team’s playing hard!

Nothing to do with them wanting to stay on the team, or more importantly, not wanting to get INJ

  • beninnorcal

Who wants to bet the refs get this one wrong and let the foreskins keep it?

  • MB30SD

Have I ever mentioned how much I fucking hate the packers.

    • willbest

      Nope

      • MB30SD

        Well, I dos

    • Big Mike

Just saw a highlight and said the same thing. My comment was I hope they get to the playoffs and get fucked over

      • willbest

I would rather Stafford hoses them with one of his 4Q miracles next week

      • MB30SD

        I literally loathe those motherfuckers

    • BearDown100393

      Not much.

  • BearDown100393

Jordan Howard is every bit as good as Ezekiel. Maybe better.

    • willbest

Lower fumble %, worse of a pass catcher

    • Not as fast and less wiggle.

If Howard was just a gear faster, he’d be AP.

  • willbest

    Barth… Wtf

  • MB30SD
    • Internet Smug Prick #9 (GP)

      he’s an android

  • BerwynBomber

    Barthed.

Questionable playcalling by Loggains on second and goal.

    • Big Mike

      Meh. Run pass a pick’em

      • BerwynBomber

Howard gained six on first down. Why not run him again down there?

    • I felt the same.
      Thought they should’ve run it.

Slant to the immortal Daniel Brown?

      Spotty.

On the 3rd down it looked like Howard should’ve made himself a bit more available for the checkdown. Saw Barkley talking to him afterwards, prolly told him the same.

      Rook details.

  • Make RedZone Conv% Great Again

Thank you for freeing up my Saturday Loggens. Later dudes.

  • willbest

This is ugly. I wanted a competitive loss

  • lol and of course, I have Rob Kelly going in FF

  • BerwynBomber

Early but a game like this makes me worry about next year.

    • Big Mike

      Means nothing

    • willbest

      Not if we pay cousins

      • BerwynBomber

Barkley is not what I’m worried about today. More Fangio’s unit.

      • RenoBear

Not a fan of cousins… especially not for some massive salary

        • willbest

He is probably going to command 19 mil a year and 50 mil in guarantees at this point

          • willbest

Wouldn’t be surprised if he gets Philip rivers money 21 mil a year actually. His QBR as a starter is ridiculous

        • Cousins is a competent system QB.

That’s more than what OZ was b4 he got his ridicules $, so he’s gonna get paid.
There’s a world of diff between the Cousins and Fitz of the NFL.

    • I almost hope the Bears DO quit.

That’s the main defense Fox has going for him.

      Too late now I guess.

      Should’ve promoted Fangio wk 3

      #deadHorse

      • BerwynBomber

But the problem is its Fangio’s unit that hasn’t doesn’t a thing today.

  • BerwynBomber

D looking a little Mel Tucker-ish after Q1. Barkley and Howard looking pretty much like Barkley and Howard. Oline playing well too.

  • BerwynBomber

Barkley with a Cutleresque decision. Yikes.

  • BearDown100393

    Should be PI

  • Hoyer not looking too bad now, eh?

    • willbest

      Still looks like shit

  • willbest

  • willbest

  • Internet Smug Prick #9 (GP)

    Call him Hotel Porter

He escorts you to the endzone. Carries the bags.

    • He’s been playing with a bum knee most of the season.

At least he’s not Fuller-ing it.

      • Internet Smug Prick #9 (GP)

true. Fuller is a shit human

        • MB30SD

          He’s just a coward

    • Big Mike

He’s hurt and old. But I respect him more than Kyle I’m a pussy Fuller

    • Irish Sweetness

      Hotel Porter!

  • Where the fuck is our pass rush?

    They’re not even sniffing Cousins.

Only guy near him was Floyd when he flew by him as Cousins ran for 12

    • BerwynBomber

      D took the week off.

  • Big Mike

    • willbest

Greg Olsen just became the first TE with three 1000 yard seasons in a row. One more such season to tie Gonzales and Whitten for the most career 1000 yard seasons for TEs.

    Nice trade, Glitchy.

    • MB30SD

      Yaaaaaawn.

Doesn’t work that way sadly Dave, but you know this

      • SC Dave

        Not for the Bears, anyway.

        • MB30SD

          That was my point maings.

  • BerwynBomber

Meredith came to play. One thing Barkley does very well is throw the intermediate ball down the seam.

    • There were 3 guys in that zone and Barkley let it fly anyways.

Good. Barkley has short term memory and trusts his arm
Bad. Barkley has short term memory and trusts his arm

      Cam’s YAC is impressive.

  • willbest

Barkley must not give a shit until he is down 14+ points

    • Internet Smug Prick #9 (GP)

he only blitzes on 3rd down, and usu on 3rd and long.

This means Porter (or insert suckass CB) one-on-one vs fast WRs in Garcon and Jax

    • BerwynBomber

Porter should not be on the field. Appreciate the dude’s toughness but this is embarrassing.

      • Jackosn has been burning good healthy CBs all season.

        Garcon is also no joke.

Fangio needs to do something, but he’s out of secondary bodies.

      • Johnnywad

I hope not. I hope it’s 6 games in the NFL inexperience and not some sort of bad synapse wiring.

  • Jones still on the team?

he’s the last player u prolly wanna fuck w lol

  • Howard not the smoothest of route runners.

    Turns like a coke machine

    • willbest

Nope. Sensor in the ball please

      • RenoBear

He was a yard fuckin short. Ugh

  • RenoBear

    Wtf??

  • I think we should sit Howard.

    We know what he is.

What we need to find out is if Langford or Carey are worth a shit.

    • Irish Sweetness

      Fournette anyone?

  • BerwynBomber

NYJ obviously suck but damn are the Pats a machine.

  • BerwynBomber

    Hall keeping this drive alive.

  • Big Mike

So while everyone is still here, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah. This game changes nothing. Bears have a good young core. They need to keep the coaching staff.

If you’re getting upset about this game you need to check yourself. We’re playing 2nd, 3rd and 4th string guys all over the field. We were rebuilding and weren’t s deep team to begin with.

  • BerwynBomber

This game is bordering on DAL game ugly from earlier in the year.

  • madscout12

I’m reminded of a home game against these guys where Cutty threw 4 picks to Hall. We still had a chance to win, and were in on a similar play. Cutty reaches out, crosses the plane, has the ball knocked out. Ruling on the field. Fumble, recovered by Wash.

Just now, ruling, TD. With no evidence of crossing the plane. Ruling stands due to no evidence.

    Only the bears.

We better get really good, because I don’t see this shit changing.

  • I hope that “they’re still playing hard for Fox” narrative is crushed.

They’re playing hard only cuz if they half-ass it, they’ll get injured.
    Others want to make bonuses
Some are playing for job and auditioning

    None are playing for Fox.

    • BearDown100393

      They play for Chicago. Us.

  • BearDown100393

Still plenty of time to come back.

  • BearDown100393

Crowd needs some noise for our defense!

  • Not to exempt Barkley cuz he’s been Cutleresque, but that was a LAZY route.

  • BearDown100393

    Need a stop.

  • BearDown100393

    Bears ball. Momentum shifter.

  • Thompson like a poor man’s Royal.

Tho unlike Royal, at least he’s not made of china

  • Jags just broke Titan’s playoff push, and Mariotta’s leg

    • BerwynBomber

      Fuck …

    • Big Mike

And moved the Bears up one spot in the draft

  • BearDown100393

  • BerwynBomber

Well, Barkley should be cheap …

  • BearDown100393

Need the defense to step up and get the ball back.

  • Completely sailed the pass.

    • BearDown100393

      #gunslinger

    • BerwynBomber

More like serviceable to backup …

    • madscout12

He never looked like the franchise.

If we don’t draft a QB, the pitchforks should be out.

      • BearDown100393

What QB should the Bears draft?

        • madscout12

Don’t care. We need one. Don’t care where either. There exists a QB in the draft that is valuable to enough to be drafted with one of our picks. I want him.

Doesn’t have to be the #1 pick. 3rd/4th rounders come in and produce. No reason one can’t produce for the bears.

          • madscout12

And let me clarify further to say that it had better be a guy with the physical tools to succeed. No more David Fales, please.

  • madscout12

13 min left in the 4th, and down by 20.

Time for the bears to show how hard they play.

    • BearDown100393

      We got this.

      • MB30SD

#3 in the draft here we come!!! Woo Hoo!

        • If 9ers win, maybe #2!

          • MB30SD

            YAY!!!

fuck it, might as well right? (silver linings and all that)

        • MB30SD

hey will, if pace doesn’t make us MUCH better picking @ #3 in erra round this year, I’ll jump on your, pace has been abject shit and he shouldn’t be in the league hater wagon. Deal? ; )

          • Big Mike

            Pace has done fine

          • MB30SD

I think he’s been a fucking bad ass… how can you look at the last two years and say anything different. Boggles my mind. I was giving will shit mike.

          • Big Mike

I think Pace has crushed it.

          • ButtonShoes

What he did in 2015 isn’t looking so good. 2016, the jury’s out, but we might have something here.

          • Big Mike

Incomplete until White plays. But keep in mind it wasnt his scouting department. Β  Β Goldman’ a stud, Grasu unknown Langford good backup
            Get Outlook for iOS

          • ButtonShoes

Goldman’s great but can he stay healthy? Look at how many games he’s missed due to injury. Grasu was terrible his first season, and missed his whole second season. And now Whitehair’s taken his position. And Langford is a pale shadow of Jordan Howard. We all know Amos is pretty useless now (can’t make a play or get a turnover for anything), and White’s injury history is always going to be a concern. So I’m pretty pessimistic about Pace’s 2015 draft class.

          • Big Mike

Nothing you can do about injuries. Β Unless you’re saying it was a medical condition they should have known about, it was a medical risk they took

  • BerwynBomber

    #falestime

  • Give back the dip, yo!

  • BearDown100393

Norman pushed off Alshon. That was blatant PI.

  • ButtonShoes

Well, now we can put aside all that Barkley nonsense, and focus on the business of drafting a QB.

Not in the 1st round, though. There isn’t a QB this year worth a first round pick as high as we’ll have.

    • If there were, Browns would draft him anyways.

    • Big Mike

Doesn’t change any one’s opinion who was being realistic. Barkley may or may not be an average starter. Today he crapped the bed. Just awful

Still should draft a QB. Question always has been, should you take a QB#1

      • ButtonShoes

Barkley isn’t even a starter. He’s a backup at best.

          • BearDown100393

And who should be hired instead?

          • Toub

          • ButtonShoes

Good question. If Pace is the GM we hope he is, hopefully he’s got a good answer to that.

I don’t know why Fox gets credit for motivating this team. He shouldn’t get any. We’re a team right now filled to the brim with UFAs and players off the NFL scrap pile. These kids are just desperate to stay in the NFL. So of course they’re playing hard. They don’t need Fox to tell them so. And they lack talent, so of course they regularly shit the bed like they did today.

The point of saying all that was: Fire John Fox.

    • For once we agree.

Been saying it since week 3-4

      • Big Mike

        No

          No way.

          • Big Mike

Continuity. Β Stick with the plan. Β This year was a bust because of injuries. Β Change coaches every two years and we’re the jaguars or browns. Β We are not. Β There is good talent on this squad. More talent coming.

Fox doesn’t find and hire the talent. Ryan Pace has not impressed his first two years.

White is a bust. Floyd has something but needs another year. Alot of the FA blocks crumbled.

      • MB30SD

GP, come on maings!!! Don’t do this to me!

White had an injury, floyd looks like a beast in the making, howard in the 4th (?), whitehair, who knows about bullard yet… and then FA guys like freeman (who would be probowl if not roiding), Tre, hicks, mcphee, etc…

Still some questions about the first draft, which some have mentioned was done without ‘his guys’. this years draft looking super solid to top 5 drafts.

All in all, let’s see what he does with top 5 picks in every round… if he hits it out of the park, he’s the man for the future.

        • Internet Smug Prick #9 (GP)

          Whitehair – good pick

Alot of the FA shit is where he faltered

Here is his draft class of 2015

          Kevin White
          Eddie Goldman
          Grasssssu
          Amos
          Tayo Fabulous

Goldman is the pick there. Aaaaaaaaaaannnnd…. that’s it.

          • BearDown100393

            Hicks is a solid FA.

          • Internet Smug Prick #9 (GP)

            And Ted Larsen is not.

His tenure had bright spots, but really – what is his batting average?

          • Yeah, but Kush looked good in limited snaps.

I also feel Porter is decent esp for his price.

          • Irish Sweetness

What is Porter decent at??? Letting people run straight by him?

          • MB30SD

Um, freeman?!?!? Tre (if he can stay healthy) McFee (if he can stay healthy)

          • MB30SD

can’t hit it outta the park on erra pick my maings.

White… freak injury (twice) – not on GM
Goldman – Starter but can’t stay healthy – not on GM
Grassu – starter but can’t stay healthy – not on GM
Amos – Starter, and probably OK with guys around him who aren’t denny’s servers – Solid pick for a 5th(?) rounder
Tayo – No idea, can’t remember what happened to him, but he was a 6th or 7th no?

          • Internet Smug Prick #9 (GP)

I will leave the book open on Westworld until he decides how he’s going to handle Alshon.

Alshon hates him some Chicago. People on the Score say the inside scoop is: he hates it here and wants to be back South and would love to be a Buc or a Dolphin.

            How do you handle that?

If you are a good GM, you tag him and trade him. And you get something good for him. NOW. Not the 2018 season.

          • MB30SD

agree on alshon. fuck that kid, get a 1st or 2nd for him

          • ButtonShoes

If you get a 1st for Alshon, trade him. Otherwise keep him, because our WR core doesn’t inspire confidence.

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

Our GM’s can draft 1st rate guards with their eyes closed. That’s what they do!

      • BearDown100393

White flashed before his injury. The kid has been through a lot. IMO a bust is shown by lack of ability on the field, not unfortunate circumstances due to injuries.

      • Internet Smug Prick #9 (GP)

After Kevin White was picked, here are the next few picks

Ereck Flowers – staple at tackle for the Giants
Todd Gurley – fucking headed to the Madden cover
DeVante Parker – a better wideout in his sleep than White will ever be
Melvin Gordon – a standout on a team with no heart and no guts

        • MB30SD

how can you put freak injuries on the GM

          • Internet Smug Prick #9 (GP)

            because White’s injuries were scouted.

Hubby Dubby said the worry on the kid was leg injuries on draft day. And it came to pass.

          • Link?

I don’t recall any rod in leg concerns.

          • Johnnywad

You can’t. Pace is doing a nice job in the player acquisition department. Assuming every pick or FA the guy signs will work out, and holding it against him if a few don’t, is silly. Every team in the league has roster churn. Pace wins more than he loses and he’s on the right track.

That said, he better find me a fucking QB cuz now I gotta burn my Barkley shrine in the back yard.

          • MB30SD

i’m with ya. I just shredded my #12 “BarkleyTime!” jersey.

He beats the shit of JA, that’s for damn sure.

        • ButtonShoes

You want to really get pissed? Look at the 3 players picked before White. That’ll make you rip your hair out. Pace could’ve tried to trade up and didn’t.

        • Irish Sweetness

          Flowers struggled mightily.

      • Big Mike

        Wrong

      • ButtonShoes

I’m with you on a lot of that. Pace hasn’t impressed me. White definitely looks like a bust. Floyd could be something but injuries could derail him. And Pace doesn’t know what he’s doing in FA. But Fox coaches the talent. And he’s done a horrible job of it this season. Fire his ass.

        • MB30SD

“And Pace doesn’t know what he’s doing in FA.”

you just lost every shred of credibility you started with (psssst, not much). You’re ridiculous dude.

          Freeman
          Travathan
          Sitton
          Hicks
          McPhee
          HOYER THE DESTORYER

          A++++!!!!!!!!!!!!

          • ButtonShoes

Come on, man. Look at 2015: Rolle, Ball, Royal, McPhee, and Ray McDonald. Out of them all, the only barely useful one was Pernell, and that was only for about half a season because his knees are busted all the time. I’ll give you Sitton and Hicks, and I thought Travathan and Freeman were great signings at the time, but Trevathan’s knee injury is about as bad as you can get, and Freeman was suspended for PEDs. Pace ain’t good in FA.

          • MB30SD

He’s awesome in FA… You’re putting injuries and PED use on him?!?? Come on mainhs

          • ButtonShoes

Well PEDs speaks to character, right? If you get suspended for using them, you’re not available to play. Pace should be able to evaluate that. And yeah, I can’t blame the knee injury on Pace. But damn that knee injury was a bad one. You’d rather you tear your ACL than get what Trevathan got.

          • MB30SD

            sigh

          • MB30SD

do you know what the peds were? Roids or some shit in a postworkout drink he bought randomly because this is the one day he forgot his usual on-banned stuff?

Can’t make that call from where we sit, and with zero info

          • ButtonShoes

Gotta be smarter, though. If Freeman had been on the field against GB, maybe we win that one.

          • MB30SD

agree, but are you telling me that it’s Ryan Pace’ job to hire only smart football players?

Read those last three words out loud to yourself slooooowwwwllllyyyyy.

Banned is banned, mang. Cyborg just got busted for diuretics.

          • Irish Sweetness

Trevatahn cant’t cover, that’s the knock on him. Hoyer schmoyer, Sitton and Hicks were good signings though. Nanny? Got to stay on the field.

        • Irish Sweetness

          No, Floyd IS something.

    • BearDown100393

What would Dave Toub or Jim Bob Cooter do differently with 19? regulars on IR and a rebuilding roster by a 2nd year GM?

      • One of the benefits of SP tm coaches is that they’re used to massive turnover.

But 19 is a bit too much.

Still, what did inj have to do with baffling decisions all yr long?

Shit, even throwing the challenge flag ON A TO shows Fox’s incompetence .

        • MB30SD

we agree on Fox 100%… not at all on Pace

          • I’m lukewarm on Pace.

The guys he drafted weren’t really inj risks, so can’t lay that on him.

The only one I truly hated was Grassu.
I was highly dubious on Floyd; he’s impressed me more than expected, though jury still out on him.
Supposedly he was in the concussion protocol again today. That’s 2.

Whitehair I loved. The rest I understood.

Pace’s next draft will determine his legacy, esp which QB he chooses.

          • And his FA moves I loved.
Only real questionable move there is releasing Slauson, but he acquired Sitton.

He needs to sign Will Hill though. Amos is a JAG.

          • MB30SD

ahh, just read this. we agree here.

          • MB30SD

agree with the last part. I think he’s gotten an A+ for his FA

  • MB30SD

Dude, mariota fractured femur. that sucks man. poor kid

  • Who has the tie breakers if Bears, 9ers and Jets finish with same record?

  • BerwynBomber

Ugliest loss since DAL game. Barkley sucked but the D also showed very little.
Meredith and Howard played well and that was it.

    • BearDown100393

      Alshon.

    • Thompson also had himself a nice lil game.
      He also returns.

We should def upgrade on him, but no problem with him on the PS.

      has shown more than Braverman

      • willbest

        Thompson is becoming unflushable

  • Internet Smug Prick #9 (GP)

    Floyd
    Whitehair
    Bullard
    Kwiky Kowski
    Deon Bush
    DieonDre Hall (also 4th)
    Jordan Howard
    Houston-Carson
    Braverman

    Grade?

Floyd may have something. He needs more power and hit. He quits on plays. He gets worn out. He needs a smoothie maker and a weight trainer.

Whitehair – great pick. Could be a Kreutz like pick.

Bullard – What happened to all the hype on him? Down the stretch he vanished. Showed nothing.

Kwiky – Kid has heart. Needs to borrow Floyd’s smoothie machine and pro powders.

Bush – Hall – Houston-Carson: Is there a solid DB there in that mix? Bush maybe. He’s nobody’s idea of impact, and this is still 4th round.

Howard – could be his home run pick

Braverman – yeah. ok. Back to accounting, Danny.

    • BerwynBomber

Hall is the better bet (than Bush) but splitting hairs…

      • Irish Sweetness

I see what you did there.

    • ButtonShoes

I really though Bullard could become something. I still have hopes for the kid, but this was a real bad year for him.

      • MB30SD

it’s his first year man! sheeesh, give these guys a couple to get on it. Not every pick can be a stud man. He’s, what, a 4th rounder?

        • ButtonShoes

3rd. Hey, I’m pulilng for him! I thought Bullard was a solid, A+ pick from Pace. I just thought he’d be a lot better than what he showed this year.

          • MB30SD

Give him a year man… You simply can’t be so down on errathing. I promise it’s better than it looks now.. as long as we can stop with the ridiculous injuries

          • willbest

No doubt. He is playing a big man position, it can take them a year or two to transition from the NCAA.

          • Irish Sweetness

So give the same pass to Hall, Grassu etc.

          • willbest

Grassu got outplayed though. So why would you go back to him?

          • MB30SD

They’ve had a year… And injuries. You also want to blame the injuries on the GM?! Good lord… Guess I should have expected that.

    • willbest

Braverman and Houston-Carson to my mind can go. Everybody else should get a year 2. Whitehair was a find, Big Mike called it. And Howard is elite.

      • Irish Sweetness

Whitehair is filling in at C for me.

        • willbest

filling in for what? Grasu was substandard his rookie year before he got hurt. Cody is playing like a vet as a rookie in a position he didn’t really do in college.

There is zero chance he loses starting Center to Grasu or whatever camp body they bring in. He isn’t going to be our Swing guard next year like you seem to think. If he is in at Guard it means they moved Long back to tackle.

    • Irish Sweetness

Deiondre Hall will be our starting corner in 2017. #2 don’t know, Callahan?

    • Irish Sweetness

Whitehair came at the cost of Derrick Henry. Don’t worry, I’ll remind you all of that every year :o)

      • willbest

Why would you want Derrick Henry when you have Jordan Howard and Cody Whitehair?

  • BerwynBomber

Gase has MIA at 10-5. They won with Matt Moore today. On the road. At BUF. In Dec.

    • Internet Smug Prick #9 (GP)

      Buh bye Rexy!

Here’s some nice socks for your wife as a parting gift. It’s been a tough 2016.

    • ButtonShoes

Is there some obscure NFL rule we can use to switch coaches with Miami?

      • BearDown100393

        #BirdCage belongs in Miami.

        • Internet Smug Prick #9 (GP)

    • willbest

Their roster is better than ours.

      • BerwynBomber

But how could Gase win w/out Cutler?

        • willbest

Because he figured out how to get that talented band of misfits on D that the dolphins have to play together. Between that and Ajayi all he needed is a game manager and Gase was able to turn Tannehill into one like he did Cutler last year.

          • BerwynBomber

Yeah, I was just trolling ya there …

          • willbest

I am not in love with Cutler. I just don’t have an irrational hatred of him. And I have admitted I was wrong about Gase. I didn’t want him as HC, and I thought it was just Peyton Manning making him look good. I would like to have that back. c’est la vie.

          • BerwynBomber

No worries. I didn’t know you had been anti-Gase. To be honest I had no idea how he would turn out as an HC and still don’t given how early it is in his career. But I was always supportive of the OC job he did last year. Thought he lived up to the QB whisperer billing.

      • Irish Sweetness

        It’s healthier for sure.

    • Irish Sweetness

      Matt Moore is good though.

  • Internet Smug Prick #9 (GP)

Can someone explain what happened to the Vikings at 5-0?

The Bears exposed their OL as 3rd rate. And with no running game and no threat of the run, teams watched film on Bradford and adjusted to him. The O could do nothing and the D started to wear down.

    • BearDown100393

      The Vikes bradforded themselves.

      • Johnnywad

        Hard.

    • ButtonShoes

      Also, no QB.

    • willbest

Which is impressive considering our pass rush has been pretty lackluster most of the season.

      • BerwynBomber

Thought the pass rush was coming around after last week. Sacked Rodgers four times and moved him off his spot countless times. But obviously that performance was the exception. They generated nothing today.

        • willbest

Our defense has had its best games against our division opponents, which is probably the only thing that gives me hopes for the playoffs next season.

  • ButtonShoes

Seriously though, fuck you Jerry Angelo:

Watching the CSN show on Bears.

    1. Floyd is concussed and will miss the last game. He’s emotionally upset.
    2. Jim Miller looks like Little Biggsy. Little Biggs Man.
    3. Briggs ain’t give no shit no mo.

    • BerwynBomber

      Yeah Mildew’s O-lineman big.

Second concussion for Floyd is worrisome.

      • ButtonShoes

2 in 2 months. Not good. Hopefully that’s the last we’ve seen of it going forward.

        • willbest

Assuming he didn’t have any undiagnosed ones in college and high school.

  • ButtonShoes

‘Bears coach John Fox: “Hang with us. Better days are to come.”‘

You better believe it. One of those better days is going to be the day your losing ass is fired. Hopefully it happens next week!

  • ButtonShoes

If we lose next week and the 49ers win out today and next week, do we go up to #2?

    • Irish Sweetness

      IF?

      • Irish Sweetness

SF are 5.02 SOS, Bears are 5.21 – but the Jags are .534 SOS and they’re behind us even though we both three losses. So I don’t get that …

        • willbest

Its inverse SOS. So a 3 win team with crappier opponents is considered worse than a 3 win team with quality opponents. And the crappier the team, the better the draft pick.

  • ButtonShoes

‘John Fox said of his Bears: “I thought they were just as competitive as they’ve always been.”‘

Come on, now. He’s just begging to get fired saying horseshit like that.

    • Irish Sweetness

I have to agree, I couldn’t believe he said that unless he meant we’re NOT competitive.

  • BuddhaJoe

Shit that was awful. Hate to throw a guy under the bus after one game but I was wrong about Barkley. 5 picks? Clearly not the answer. Plus a bunch of fails on the D and there you go. Watson with the no. 1?

    • willbest

I only saw the first 2 picks. Both of which were clearly on him.

And a player can have a bad game. But not he shouldn’t be handed the keys to the kingdom after a game like that. I still like him a lot more than Hoyer and I would still rather Barkley than Hoyer be our #2 next year.

      • BuddhaJoe

You could maybe excuse him for one, but it was indeed that bad. Yeah I’d take him over Hoyer but that’s like saying you like Three Doors Down over Nickelback. They either need to draft high or throw a shit-ton of $$ at Cousins.

      • Big Mike

4 of the 5 were just bad throws. 1 was a WTF. Threw deep into triple coverage. The one that wasn’t was tipped good defensive play, but a perfectly thrown ball would not have been tipped.

    • Irish Sweetness

Peyton Manning once threw 6 in one game.

  • BuddhaJoe

Oh yeah, Happy Holidays you beautiful fuckers!

  • Huge Bears Penis

So glad I was at a family thing today and did not see much of the game, every time I got to watch it was a TO or a TD by the skins. Merry Christmas everyone.

    • BerwynBomber

Imagine the DAL game with a tad more Bears O and a ton more TOs. That was basically it. But Meredith and Howard each played well.

  • BerwynBomber

Rams did us a solid. But even if we tie SF wouldn’t they still hold the better pick because of the H2H?

    • Dunno but i think H2H down the list in tiebreakers

      • Big Mike

It is not. It’s weird that it isn’t.

    • willbest

Its entirely SOS as the tiebreaker. So as long as the teams SF plays pile up more wins than the teams we play, life is good.

    • Irish Sweetness

Rams only have 4 wins too though.

      • willbest

But the 9ers picked up their 2nd win. He is saying if they 9ers win their 3rd next week and tie us, we stand a chance at getting the #2 seed in the draft, but even if we don’t have the SOS to beat them we would at least rotate with them each round.

  • BerwynBomber

    Carr breaks his fibula.

    • willbest

      damn.

    • Horrible draft pick!

      • MB30SD

        hahaha

        • willbest

He thinks he is trolling, but its silly because there is a difference between a dude’s leg shattering 2 years in a row because he was running on it and having a 300 pound behemoth going low.

          • MB30SD

I don’t know man, that shit happens – look at today… 3 fucking broken legs. I saw two of them and they weren’t due to 300lb behemoths. they were from falling… mariota’s didn’t even look like it broke, just looked like a normal tackle and fall

Besides, for a game or two he looks like he was coming on and made a few big plays.

He’s ours so might as well see what happens next year right.

            And it’s kinda funny.

          • MB30SD

            ah. : /

          • Irish Sweetness

Seattle drop to #4 after losing to ARI.

          • willbest

Christmas Eve wasn’t really following what happened in the rest of the league. Still I suspect only Dallas and Seattle concern Hoodie. I would say the Giants too but Coughlin is sipping Mai Tai’s somewhere.

      • BerwynBomber

Yeah, we had covered that one awhile ago. I feel particularly bad for Mariota as his mobility somewhat defines him. Carr is more the pure pocket passer. Would imagine he will be fine long-term but obviously the Raiders become an iffy WC team without him.

          • Irish Sweetness

Hoyer is not a Bear after next week. If Pace hires him back, I want his head.
Shaw and Cutty are both under contract next season. That’s our best road at QB IMO.

          • MB30SD

Shaw has done what in even a single real NFL game again?

            PSHEEEROOOOOO!!! Absolutely nada yo.

How do you not see the insanity in your ways?! Shaw, Hoyer, Barkley, and some other dude from the draft or fa battle it out for the three spots… There can be no other way! Do or do not…

Say we lock down the #3 pick (I hope). What are the odds Garrett falls to us?

    • Irish Sweetness

Zero. Cleveland want him. They’ve got Kessler and RGIII.

  • Irish Sweetness

Bad news – the Niners (SEA), Jets(Bills), Jags(Colts), Rams(Cards) and Chargers(Chiefs) are all losing next week …. knowing our luck we’ll beat the Queens again.

If SOS is the decider, then why are we (0.521) ahead of JAX (.534) – don’t JAX have the better SOS there?
SF (0.502) get the #1 pick if they lose and Cleveland (0.547) win next week. But how? Isn’t the higher number a stronger schedule?

    • madscout12

      Start Fales, sit everyone.

Howard sits, Sitton sits, Freeman sits. Pull up guys from the practice squad and start them.

3 wins is all we get this year. 3 wins and a decent draft pick.

      • Irish Sweetness

I don’t even think we need to tank, injuries mean there will be literally nobody anywhere.

    • CanadaBear

Yeah. If 2 teams have the same record the team with the weakest schedule gets the pick. Basically you were just as shitty as the other team but your schedule was even easier so you must be worse.

  • willbest

UGH… the Bucs lost that means the only way the packers miss the playoffs is if the Redskins beat the Giants and GB loses to Detroit. Giants I suppose don’t have anything to play for being locked into the #5 seed now.
