Better draft pick be damned, I hope we smoke the Loins. They’re still dirty cheap-shotting bastards led by a Fat Lezbo. They have beaten the Bears the last 6 games. That’s enough of that shit!

    • Trac

      Canada’s on Fiyre!!! Oh yeeah!!!

    • Big Mike

A lot of fans, including guys on this blog, myself including sometimes salivated towards a 4-12, 5-11 season etc (best draft pick possible). Then when game day approaches, it’s only about winning. So fuck the Loins.

      • MB30SD

        Fuck the lions indeed mike

      • CanadaBear

I don’t even kid myself. I know come game time it’s all about trying to win. After I read the Bears will probably end up picking last of the logjam of bad teams due to strength of schedule (9 games against playoff teams) I kinda gave up on getting a really high pick. Oh well.

  • That Guy

For the last time of the season: Bear Down Boys.

And man it feels good to know the team is as motivated as the fans.

  • CanadaBear

Here’s a nice overview of the season. Seems pretty much spot on. http://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/7/71/1220833/rookie-year-jury-still-gm-ryan-paces-impact

    • Trac

Only Chicago and Dallas truly know what the Gold Standard really means. Making barrels of money while seldom making the playoffs. I’m hoping to change that crap, next year. Not making the playoffs year in and year out is getting very tiresome.

      • CanadaBear

I’m with ya all the way Trac. I do think the Bears are in capable hands but I thought that with Angelo and early Lovie.

        • Big Mike

Do you know that since 1993, the Cubs have made the playoffs more often than the Bears. That’s a drought. Sick of this shit. Love this years team. Basically playing with the JV at WR, Found some gold with some UDFAs, and late round picks, defense played way above the talent level they put out there. Willie Young turning into a player in the 3-4. McPhee’s leadership, Callahan the nickel corner showing up out of nowhere, Lots of positives. Today I’m hoping for a great game from the OL. Kyle Long in particular. I want to go into the offseason reassured that he can become a very good RT.

          • MB30SD

            This

          • Trac

            And that!

          • CanadaBear

I hope they pound the rock like last week. About their only hope of winning unless the Loins doing something Loins-like.

          • Big Mike

amen. 250 yards 35 minutes time of possession. No special team errors and a +2 in turnovers. I’d love to see Langford and Forte on the field at the same time. These two on the field have to be better than whatever practice squad player they’ll be lining up at WR.

      • Jack Lacan

TIRESOME is the perfect word there. Thanks.

    • Big Mike

This is a very negative review in my mind. Amos has been a huge upgrade. Judging a safety by interceptions and turnovers doesn’t take into account the the tackles he made stopping the runner in his tracks, vs chasing him down 20 yards later because of a bad angle. The article doesn’t mention Willie Young’s emergence in the 3-4. The improved play of Slauson, the game experience earned by Grasu, Leno taking over at LT for Bushrod (a savings of 5-10 million next season), Ferguson made strides, Fuller settled down, Porter was a steal. 3 made field goals away from being 9-6. Doing all of that playing with the JV at WR all year.

My opinion is if Trestman had this years squad with this years injuries you’re looking at blowouts every other week and a 2-14 team.

      • CanadaBear

I thought it was fair but you make some good points. I’m not sure if Amos hit the rookie wall but he’s looked pretty mediocre the last few games. Also, I do think it’s fair to list the lack of impact plays. Totally agree about Nessman and this team. In fact, I don’t think 0-16 would be out of the question. I thought that was a good question about would the Bears be better off with Emery/Arians or Pace/Fox?

        • Big Mike

Canada, Amos dropped off when Rolle went down. Look it up. That’s why he’s struggled a bit. Bears are asking a guy with 7 starts to take charge of the secondary. He’s slightly out of position. It is fair to measure impact plays, but not solely. Yards after catch, yards after contact I would bet are way way down. Just watch how he drops ball carriers. Something we haven’t seen in a decade.

Pace/Fox because emery was a moron. His drafts have had enough time to be evaluated and they were fucking terrible. Gase found more talent in one draft than Emery did in 3

          • CanadaBear

I’m certainly no fan of Emery but I do have to give him credit for Long and Alshon. I agree Pace is an upgrade but he hasn’t brought in any real impact players yet. If White never recovers that’s a horrible pick (bad luck for sure but still horrible). I think Arians is a better coach than Fox. With all that in mind, I think it makes for an interesting argument.

          • Big Mike

In 3 drafts 2 players. That’s terrible. Pace already has Goldman and Langsford and I think Amos. Need time there. Plus he has White in his pocket. Not to mention all the guys he found like Callahan, Timu, Porter

  • MB30SD

martha about to lion herself be keeping caldwell. hee hee

    • Trac

Yeah, the only way the Lions will ever start blowing other teams up is if they hire an imam to coach their team. Hee hee.

      • Jack Lacan

Hoping they remember it’s IED not IUD.

  • CanadaBear

Today’s inactives. Receiver Eddie Royal (illness), center Hroniss Grasu (knee), tight end Zach Miller (toe) and defensive lineman Jarvis Jenkins (ankle/illness) will miss today’s game. Other inactives are cornerback Jacoby Glenn, tackle Tayo Fabuluje and defensive tackle Terry Williams.

    • Bears minus top 4 WRs (Jeffery, White, Royal, Wilson), top 2 TEs, entire starting DL (Ferguson, Jenkins, Goldman), top 2 C.

      Whee!!!!

      • Big Mike

The JV trotting out there. But if Cutler throws 2 picks the off season will be all about how he sucks.

        • Trac

What a great way to hurt Gase ‘ s chances at a securing a HC gig. Brilliant suggestion Big Mike.

          • Big Mike

Hadn’t thought of that. Here’s something to ponder Trac.. What would the Bears record be if Trestman/Tucker coached this years team. Same personnel, same injuries. I’m saying 2-14.

          • Trac

Funny you should say that because I had the exact same thought this morning. I figured 1-15 or 2-14.

          • Big Mike

Best I’ve ever felt after a 6-10 season. Bears easily could have been 10-6, without being any better. Would have taken some luck, injuries, Gould field goals etc. They would have been crushed in the opening round of the playoffs and drafted in the mid 20s. With the same personnel, they will draft in the top 15. While all the speculation is about the first round pick, they will have a top half of the round draft in every round. That’s huge. Bears had only 1 game that JC played in (MN) where they got whooped. Last year the number was 5 or 6.

      • CanadaBear

But I read the Packers were one of the most beat up teams!!??!!

        • Big Mike

          Fuck the packers

        • I tweeted something to that effect. GB fans do nothing but bitch about how poor Aaron Rodgers is working with a bunch of nobodies.

Except he has a 1200 yard WR, a Pro Bowl RB, a young 2nd round pick with 5 75+ yard games in under 2 years, and a solid veteran with 6 straight years of 600+ receiving yards.

          Boo freaking hoo.

          • Big Mike

And the bears WR are their KR man, and some practice squad guys. Their tight ends who even knows?

          • Anonymous

But their O-line has been more banged up and much worse than ours and if one of those receivers you are talking about is Davante Adams … he sucks.

          • Adams has shown flashes. He’s a better option than anybody for Chicago the last couple weeks, and he’s GB’s 3rd option.

And Chicago’s OL lost their starting LT and C by week 4-5 of this season, their RG was signed off the street in week 1.

It’s not my fault GB’s offensive coaches have sucked this year. Don’t blame the personnel, they have had much much MUCH more healthy talent on offense than Chicago (granted, it’s not like Chicago’s offense has been killing it. But they’ve at least been avoiding turnovers, which Green Bay hasn’t really).

          • willbest

Rodgers looks mortal this year. Olivia Munn must not agree with him.

          • Anonymous

Although she was with him all last year and he did okay. But yeah, horrible year by his standards.

          • Jack Lacan

          • Anonymous

Doesn’t matter. GB’s O-line has been worst in the division this year. Even DET’s improved to the point of being better.

Adams has shown that he can’t separate nor catch the ball. Could be sophomore slump. Could also be a bad draft pick..

  • CanadaBear

You know this is one of Fox’s hot games this week. Check out the talking heads; Joe Davis and Brady Quinn are on the call today.

    • willbest

CBS gets the AFC visiting teams, Fox the NFC visiting teams. The GB game got flexed to NBC, leaving Fox with 2 games of consequence the Carolina game, and Cardinals game. And those games only affect seeding.

      • CanadaBear

Yeah, I know how that works, I was just commenting on the announcers. They have to be Fox’s last string. Earlier this year the Bears were playing another NFC team and the game was on CBS. Both Al and I were stumped by that. Do you know what that was all about?

        • willbest

It is usually a bye week occurrence where Fox or CBS ends up with a lot more choice games than the other due to teams on bye and more NFC/AFC visiting teams. So in the interest of giving greater coverage to certain games they are moved to the other network.

  • The GP

If the Bears lose, they tie the ’73 Bears with only one home win.

    #NotsofunFact

    • CanadaBear

And 1 more loss (only played 7 home games back then).

    • Big Mike

I don’t know how they beat the Lions without top 4 WRs top 2 TEs and none of their starting DL.

  • Big Mike

My dog, Lennon feels about the same way I do about this game. We’ll be in Bears gear and enthusiastic, but not a whole lot of interest. http://imgur.com/gallery/s7GZZ3U/new

    Trade for prater

  • Cutler should’ve stepped up in the pocket on that INT. Something to work on in the off-season cuz essentially this is a scrimmage.

    • BearDown100393

He’ll nail it down about the same time as when he celebrates his NFL silver anniversary.

  • Johnnywad

There’s no way that was a 4 second play. No way.

    • willbest

Nope. Zebras want to us lose.

      • BearDown100393

They were offered a free crack house in Motor City?

        • willbest

Isn’t everybody? There is land there you can have for free, but then it will cost you a crap ton fixing it up and then defending it.

          • BearDown100393

Or shoot the next sequel for Snake Plissken.

          • willbest

I have a photo essay book of the ruins of Detroit for my coffee table. People are shocked places like that exist in the US.

  • This Bills-Jets game is pretty funny.

    • willbest

      Jets being Jets?

      • The Bills came to play, but surprisingly the Bills O is outperforming the Jet’s O, and the Jets have a pretty formidable D.

        But yeah. Jets.

      • Irish Sweetness

        One. Man. Team.

    • BearDown100393

At least a comedy makes people smile. Unlike the tragedy over at Soldier Field.

  • BearDown100393

Why does Twitter Guy want Cutler to throw deep and get picked off? Who are the wide receivers again?

    • willbest

There should be an award for having the most starting players that wouldn’t even make another team’s 53-man roster.

      • BearDown100393

Already exists. You get to be a Bear.

  • Mariani is like a po man’s Welker.

    A VERY destitute Welker.

    • willbest

Welker is currently a poor man’s Welker. What we need is an Edelman 2.0

    • BearDown100393

      More Sanzenbacher than Welker.

      • willbest

No he is better than sanzenbacher

        • BearDown100393

Sure he is. He is also worse than Welker.

          • willbest

Well Welker 2 years ago. Not Welker this year.

  • BillW

Tough game to watch. We’re not a great team at full strength. With this many subs playing it’s a credit we are still in it.

    • willbest

Need a score here to classify as still in it.

  • madscout12

I thought you had to be a decent player to broadcast. Oh, wait. Dilfer. Quinn.

  • madscout12

    Here comes the read option!

  • willbest

And that is why Jeffery will get paid.

    • Pissed Off

      Hopefully not by us

      • BillW

Franchise him is a no brainer. We have the space and not likely to go crazy with FAs this year anyway.

  • BillW

Brady Quinn is a great analyst (sarcasm)

Look. It actually would make people respect you if you say what actually happened. First int off a lucky bounce. The other off his arm being hit

I guess you’re saying he should have known those two things would happen.

    Just hit the mute button

    • madscout12

I remember that tool had a commercial about 2 weeks after he was drafted. All the better to see him fold in the season after.

    • Pissed Off

  • Plz, no more WR screens for the love of god.
We don’t have ODBJ out there

    • madscout12

      That was a double pass.

      • madscout12

        But yeah, no better.

        • I wasn’t even talking about that play lol
They were probably trying to set that play up all season with all those screens.

          Yeah. Genius.

          • madscout12

  • BillW

Small requests for this game. No shutout. Check. At least one td and hold Detroit under 30 are the others. Would rather they win than lose but with this group losing is no negative reflection on anyone

    • Irish Sweetness

Inspired by Sac’s love of O/U, I went with the under of 47 or whatever … and accidentally backed us to win instead. We need the D to keep it up is all.

  • BillW

I’m on mute. Did they mention we have no viable wrs with that passing graphic? Or did Brady blame Jay?

Very Jay! . Keeping alive. Fuck you Brady!

  • Irish Sweetness

Good man Josh. Now for the tricky XP …

  • willbest

Beautiful throw, way to complete the process. Wait did he complete the process? Are we sure?

    • BearDown100393

Bellamy is still holding onto the football just to be sure.

I’m not sure. I think you have to carry the ball back to your own sideline.

      • BearDown100393

        And to the showers.

      • Irish Sweetness

I’d rather give him AJ’s tag money …

      • willbest

I just checked. CJ has a 24 million cap, and 13 million in dead money. He isn’t getting cut. It only costs them 11 million to keep him.

We may get to find out.

  • willbest

I am thinking forte should get 2-years 6 million fully guaranteed, with $1 million bonuses if he exceeds 30% of season snap counts, and another $1 million if its 60%

    • I would be OK with that. The more bonus and less cap hit we take, the better IMO.

We can’t pay him more than 3M/yr.

      Can’t do it.

      • Pissed Off

Little eerie they didn’t use much of other rbs today like all year after he came back from injury maybe they are showcasing him so he can get a good contract elaewher in the off-season if they know they won’t resign him

Obviously would love it let him test the market and see if we can afford to match or if he would take a hometown discount

  • BearDown100393

    • willbest

And came 1 stupid call away from beating the packers twice

    • Pissed Off

Bears suck so it shouldn’t count for much

  • Anonymous

    1) improves our draft spot
    2) improves next year’s schedule
    3) possibly saves Caldwell’s job
    4) dings Gase’s rep? (not sure about that one)

    • willbest

Not really. Based on the information we have now, there is no appreciable difference between playing the Bucs vs. Saints or the Rams vs the 9ers.

  • willbest

If Caldwell gets fired, I see him getting another coaching job.

  • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

I think that kind of sums up everything. Cutler interception….while getting hit….trying to throw an actual pass route to a kick returner….to try to come back from 4th quarter deficit….from giving up prodigious numbers to Stafford….with Megatron converting the easiest 1st downs ever…

    • madscout12

Headline: “Coach Killer throws 3 Picks pouting to a Loss”

      • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

oh well, luckily, the coaches and brass aren’t long time Bears fans. Lots of holes to fill this offseason. The moves and drafts will be all you need to see to know what most of us already do.

    • Some of those INTs WERE on Cutler. He’s not the first QB to throw to scrubs (See Brady).

That being said, whatevs. It was essentially a scrimmage, and they probably took more chances than usual with guys he’s had little reps with.

Maybe he sucked on purpose to scare teams away from Gase.

      Genius!

      • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

please step away from the irrelevant comparisons to one of the greatest qbs in the history of the league

        • No reason Cutler can’t be as great. He’s more athletic and has the better arm.

And actually, I think Cutler outperformed Brady today, in spite of the INTs.

Brady couldn’t do shit with what was essentially a TIce-level Offense.

    • Pissed Off

At least Cutler came back to form for the last game of the year ….jk he was pretty good this year but the lack of points all year sucks and now the Cutler apologists have ammo when gase is gone and they can use lack of talent as an excuse as well as learning a new system it will never end

  • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

Did Stafford have all of his TD’s against the Bears this year?

    • madscout12

Anything less than 9-7 should get the staff fired.
10-6 with a playoff win should not be out of the question if the draft and FA goes our way.

    • willbest

The Bears get the AFCS and the NFCE next year, if they don’t put up 10 wins it will be a disappointment.

      • BearDown100393

The Bears won a single home game and loss all against divisional opponents with the exception of the Green Bay Thanksgiving Game. 10 wins? Wow.

        • madscout12

Both Lions game went down to the wire. GB 1 went down to the wire. Vikes at home went down to the wire.

GB, MIN, SF, WAS, DEN could have all easily gone the other way. And half of those we didn’t have our top 2 WR, our top TE, and half of our Defense. In the first year of an all new staff.

          • BearDown100393

And still lost. There are no NFL participation trophies.

          • Anonymous

“GB 1 went down to the wire.”

Questionable. Matthews INT came with about five minutes left and that was essentially the ball game. Yeah, we tacked on a garbage time TD and had an onside kick but had we pulled it off it would have been a miracle win.

And remember too that KC and OAK could have gone the other way.

But I agree with your point that we were much more competitive than our record might indicate.

          • madscout12

I don’t think that it is too much to ask for a good draft at FA. It isn’t like a miracle has to happen this year talent wise.

I don’t think it is too much to ask for -4 PPG on Defense, or a +3 PPG on Offense with our talent back. Given that, and subtracting the Clausen game from our offensive totals, we score 25.3 PPG and give up 21 PPG. That point differential is top 10, and puts us in the playoffs, unless we are obscenely unlucky.

          • Pissed Off

But they didnt cuz our team can’t finish all teams have those scenarios and win more than they lose if they are good

        • willbest

I expect them to win 6 home games next year and go .500 on the road.

  • lmao . Jets!

Irish’s beloved Fitz just threw an even more boneheaded INT than Cutty.

    So Jets.

    • BearDown100393

I wonder if this firing people before Black Monday is going to continue as a trend or if this year is an aberration

    • Anonymous

The Kelly firing seemed personal and odd — at least the timing of it. So I would say aberration for now.

      • willbest

Miami, Tennessee, Philly, and while he wasn’t “fired” he was told he was gone in Indy. Plus Coughlin doesn’t think he is staying, so he probably got a respectful heads up.

        • Anonymous

Yeah, but mid-season firings aren’t a complete aberration are they? Firing someone a week before the finale is.

      • BearDown100393

Apparently the firing had something to do with the Eagles Christmas party.

    • It was an odd year in a lot of ways. I think at one point, no team was .500.
Lots of QBs went down. Lots of games decided by flukes or horrible officiating.

      Crazy season.

I don’t think firing ppl ahead of black monday will become a trend. These things usually come in cycles.

Next wave of HCs will be fired in about 3 years.

  • Anonymous

I assume Gase will have a few interviews the next couple of weeks. Will be interesting if Fangio gets one.

    • willbest

That one worries me more than Gase.

1 divisional win. If Fangio goes, someone else arrives. Life moves forward.

        • willbest

The offense went from middling to middling, the defense went from embarrassing to middling.

          • BearDown100393

Middling is probably an accomplishment when trucking out Shea for that long.

          • MB30SD

            This

          • madscout12

This year’s D gave up 24.9 PPG. Last year’s gave up 27.6 PPG, going to 20th ranked from the T30th ranked last year. A similar improvement next year, given better familiarization with the scheme, fewer injuries, and better new players would put them at 14-15 ranked.

All playoff teams, save WAS, are at or below 21 PPG, with most in the teens.

          • Big Mike

Not sure what you were watching. The offensive stats may have been middling, but they did it with next to no talent at WR in 1/2 their games. Today they played without 6 starters on offense.

          • I’m willing to put my judgement on the O on pause.

When Mariani is your #1 WR…well, I got bad flashback trips with Sanzenbacher.

I would’ve loved to see what Gase can do with Alshon/White/Miller/Langford/Forte and a cohesive Oline.

            Oh well…

          • Big Mike

The next guy will be as good or better than Gase. That’s what John Fox brings to the table. I believe the Bears elevate the QB coach, Dowell Loggains
He has OC experience knows the system and Jay seems fond of him.

  • Curse of Bmarsh continues. No playoffs. Fitz throws two KILLER INTs in the waning minutes.

Sucky part is, the Steelers lost DeAngelo Williams.

    That dude was beasting.

    • Huge Bear’s Penis

what happened to Williams? he saved my fantasy team and won me the championship.

      • Anonymous

        Ankle. Seemed serious.

      • yeah, sucks. He would’ve run all over that Brown’s D today.

GP lucked out there (he’s up against me).

But Dwill was running hard. Steelers won’t be as dangerous without him.

    • Anonymous

Agreed. Steelers could have been dangerous with their 2nd string back. 3rd string? I don’t see it.

    • madscout12

Sucks. I hate the Steelers. The only fanbase that’s worse than those holier than thou whiny entitled jerks is the hated up North.

      • Trac

Watch your mouth sir. The Steelers have been my dark horse team since the Emery debacle. See what the Bears made me do? Actually I love the Steelers modern era tradition and because I despise the Cheatriots, I could find no other team I could stomach with as much tradition to be slightly interested in other than the Steelers. Sigh.

        • madscout12

I lived in Pittsburgh for 8 years. I despise that team because I saw the scum of their fans.

You can like them from afar. That’s fine. I just got chided for wearing Bears gear in that city too much for me to respect them. What would you say to a Chargers fan walking in Chicago with a hat on? Jets? Bengals?

I’d say nothing, because they aren’t in my division, and in 3/4 years have nothing to do with my team doing well…and that 1/4 year is 1 freakin game.

I walked around Boston several times in that span…nothing. Why? Cause they know enough to know that the Bears mean nothing to their success or failure. And we beat them in the superbowl.

          • Trac

The Steelers are Grabowski’s 2.0. At least they used to be. Was always jealous of them in the 70 ‘ s and on. Bastardo’s.

          • madscout12

I remember being at a bar watching Bears Washington in 2010. JC threw 4 INTs that day, but still had a chance to win. At the goal line, QB sneak after a LS challange. Jay crosses the plane, then gets the ball slapped out. Rulling: Fumble.

Not 2 min later, this happens: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRInQyUV16k

          • Trac

Replay sucks. Smh. No definitive prroof, if anything, the video only shows the ball coming loose after he crosses the line. They assumed there. Bad call.

          • madscout12

I get speed of the game and all, but yeah…bad call. That could be forgiven, had they actually then gone with the clear evidence of a Miami recovery. But no, Pittsburgh’s ball at the .5 and thy promptly scored. That franchise has a horseshoe up its collective rear end, but they bitch like they’re the most cursed franchise in the world.

  • Huge Bear’s Penis

wow did not realize how many backup QBs saw playing time today, mostly because of injuries. Mallett, Mettenberger, Tanney??, Freeman, McCarron, Davis, Moore, McCoy

    • Anonymous

McCarron has actually looked good. Playing with a real solid team though.

  • AlbertInTucson

Did Porter get ANY help all day on Megatron?

    • Big Mike

      Didn’t look like it

    • Anonymous

Not that I saw. Put him on an island.

    • I don’t think so, and considering how Fuller got taken to the woodshed by Mega before, I’m a lil surprised.

But last game, scrimmage. They were probably trying stuff out on both sides that they normally wouldn’t.

    • BearDown100393

      It wouldn’t have mattered.

  • By losing today, we’re almost guaranteed the top ILB, S;

Also, a top 3 OT, CB, and hell, maybe pass rusher or QB.

    • MB30SD

      yee haw mo fos!

      2016 here we come!!

      • Trac

I can’t wait for the wholesome off season banter. Hee hee.

        • MB30SD

I can’t wait for all these game day dbags to fucking disappear.

      • If losing to the stupid ass Loins gets us the top ILB or S, I won’t be shedding any tears over not reaching the historic milestone of 7-9.

        • MB30SD

yeah, I wanted the win, but now that we didn’t get it… I’m all about the top ILB or DL

    • Trac

Myles Jack as a safety? Wow, I’d be up for that if he can’t play LBer in da league.

So what is at stake in this SEA/ARI game? SEA getting the top WC seed if MIN is the other WC?

    • madscout12

I think ARI can get the top seed with a CAR loss and a win.

  • Pissed Off

10 or 11 teams with 10 or more losses is NOT parody. Parody is NFL speak for “we need yo money”. Bully I say, bully!

    • SC Dave

Oh i dunno… looks like a parody of parity to me!

      • Trac

        hahaha, nice one dave.

  • Anonymous

SEA looking very impressive thus far.

    • That div is wacky.

Cards went up to took it to SEA.
Now SEA is returning the favor.

The same SEA that lost to the lowly Rams just last week, at home.

      • willbest

Cards aren’t really playing for anything. They need to win and Carolina needs to lose to get the #1 seed. They locked up the #2 seed with a win last week.
Also, keep in mind that Seattle just got their butts handed to them by the listless Rams.

        • Cards could’ve locked up the #1 seed, and they didn’t know if CAR would win.

This first half Cards were playing, they were just getting owned.

2nd half might be different. They may just cede the #1 and rest their starters, though this is a bad way to limp into the playoffs.

Be interesting to see if Arians remains aggressive and plays the starters.

          • willbest

Arians would be a fool at this point.

    • SC Dave

      Perhaps Arians isn’t all that

      • Anonymous

He is but SEA is championship stuff. Whether likeable or not.

And this is why PI should be reviewed.

      • Anonymous

It was only 15 extra yards on a run back that already had SEA in FG range; i.e., not a big deal given SEA’s dominance thus far.

    MVP vote?
    1. Newton
    2. Brady
    3. Palmer
    4. Wilson
    5. Antonio Brown or AP

    • I think Cam has to win it. He had no Oline or WRs (sounds familiar), and he carried that team.

They really should have an MVQ (most valuable Q) and MVP (Most valuable player NOT a QB).

      • SC Dave

        JJ Watt, I presume?

        • Yeah, I think so.

But as Anoyn has mentioned, Brown, AP in the mix.

Aaron Donald has also played out of his mind this year

    • BearDown100393

      Newton.

  • Huge Bear’s Penis

looks like both kickers in the SEA/ARI game should be cut.

  • willbest

If I were the Vikings, I might give serious consideration to losing today. If the win they will host Seattle before heading on to Arizona. If they lose they will head to Green Bay before going to Carolina.

Sounds like either way a SEA victory assures the Cheese of avoiding SEA.

    • Trac

You always play for the home playoff game. Unlike the Bears, the Queens were 6-2 at home this year.

      • BearDown100393

  • Man, Pam Oliver looks haggard.

Can’t they replace her already? How talented do you have to be to ask the coach a few questions while they run off the field, or ask the medical staff questions?

    • Huge Bear’s Penis

no use for any sideline reporter to be shown on TV. coaches aren’t going to give a good answer, they probably don’t get much info from any medical staff other than what they are required to report anyway.

      • If they’re eyecandy, sure.

        Pam Oliver is NOT that.

        • BearDown100393

          She’s 54.

          • SC Dave

I’m 57 and she has a lot of money. Maybe she should give me a call.

        • Huge Bear’s Penis

i guess if we did not have sideline reporters we would not have seen a drunk Namath trying to hit on Suzy Kolber

          • BearDown100393

            Namath would’ve hit on Goose.

          • Huge Bear’s Penis

    • willbest

Didn’t they just fire everybody last year? Team needs new ownerships not new front office/coaching.

      • Huge Bear’s Penis

they were all hired 2 years ago.

    • BearDown100393

Nothing redeeming to work for that town or franchise.

  • Anonymous

Well, the honeymoon is over for Pox. From now on they’ll be judged on post-season or no post-season.

    • BearDown100393

The arrow is pointing up. Same with the Vikings. The Packers? Seemingly downward. A lot of work to be done to win this division or a wildcard by next season. IMO this takes 3 seasons minimum.

      • Anonymous

Agreed. Cheese seem on the way down, though hard time envisioning Rodgers being so ineffective again.

MIN will be the team to watch … BUT … let’s not forget AP is getting up there in years. Bridgewater is a keeper but he also kinda has Alex Smith-like ceiling and if the best pure RB falls off a bit next year their O could struggle.

        • BearDown100393

Good point regarding AP, however I won’t count him out until he actually shows significant decline. It’ll happen eventually but perhaps not like average RBs. Mike Zimmer has done (to date) a heck of a job with that team. Nothing spectacular but usually solid fundamental football. Bridgewater might be the most improved player in the NFL.

        • Johnnywad

Jordy Nelson will be back. Let’s hope they botched that ACL

    • Yup. Don’t know if we gotta make the playoffs, but we def have to post a winning record next season.

      • CanadaBear

Hopefully Pace does some amazing work this winter because this coaching staff did a great job considering the lack of talent and plethora of injuries. I was pretty disappointed about losing to SF and WASH but looking at the roster today, it’s shocking the Bears were competitive in almost every game.

        • SF, Vikings, and Lions games were def kick to the nuts.

WASH I always felt was underrated, esp after Cousins found his groove. I thought they were the dark horse in the NFC, and sure enough, they were.

        • BearDown100393

The problem is that there is very little of worth from the Emery era. And that extends to more positions needed to be filled. Our best recent player is Kyle Long and he is out of position. Shea is terrible. Kyle might be just a guy after all. Alshon is now a calculated risk. White is an unknown after a year. There is no backup qb. Langford/Carey is still a legitimate replacement risk. It goes on and on.

          • MB30SD

that’s called the game of football maings. no team every has a guaranteed deal the following year, even playoff and SB teams.

We need to draft a future QB

  • Here comes Peyton!

Early guess on Gase? IND. The Gase/Luck pairing will have too much potential for the interested parties to pass up.

    • BearDown100393

Not really convinced Adam Gase has shown enough already to becoming a NFL head coach. He is generally lauded for his work with Jay Cutler but what of the rest of the offense? Mind you, the injuries were a killer. But even still, his play calling was frequently second guessed here. Is he ready? Well that would be up to the interviewing team. Gase/Luck sounds good but really it should be about Gase/Colts. And from that frame point, who knows? Would Adam Gase outperform Chuck Pagano? John Fox?

      • I don’t think Gase has done enough either, but the NFL is a strange creature.

Tomsula, Caldwell, Pettine, etc got HC gigs, all horrible choices everyone saw from a mile away.

        • BearDown100393

Jason Garrett was a “can’t miss” type prospect over hyped by Dallas (go figure) also.

          • Jerry likes his lackeys.
That’s why all this talk of Sean Payton to DAL is non-sense.

Jerry can’t stand anyone else taking credit.

          • BearDown100393

The Cowboys were genuinely concerned Garrett would take a head coaching job elsewhere. So they promoted within.

      • Anonymous

Have we ever had an OC whose play-calling we didn’t second-guess? Especially during the Cutty era?

This is a fan base that once grabbed the torches and pitchforks to run Mike Martz out of town in order to make a (temporary) hero out of the village idiot Mike Tice.

        • BearDown100393

IMO Gase has been over credited for Cutler’s reduced interception total. And not enough general credit has been given to Jay for this season’s performance.

          • Anonymous

Be careful. Keep talking like that and Waffle might come courtin’.

        • madscout12

Mike Martz deserved to be run out of town. The guy REFUSED to adjust to anything. “Oh, I have a great pass catching TE who has a good report with my QB. Fuck it. My scheme doesn’t use TEs other than to stay in an block”

“Oh, I have a shitty OLine. Guess I should call 20 7 steps a game.”

“Oh, I have one of the best most versital backs in the game. Guess I should call only 5 run plays a game.”

Going from him to Tice is on Lovie being shitty at hiring good talent on Offense.

  • Anonymous

Why does Carrol still have Wilson in the game?

    • BearDown100393

To keep the BCS voters impressed…..

  • wreckinball

    Keep the entire coaching staff
Winning 6 games with this roster was a success
This team was the odds on favorite for the first pick
Need to have an awesome draft obviously
Can speculate about this position versus another but the team is so weak top to bottom just draft the best available.

    • BearDown100393

The Bears are not likely deny either Gase or Fangio the opportunity to interview for head coaches. That is recipe to assure future candidates bypassing interviews for vacant Chicago jobs.

      • wreckinball

What I meant is don’t fire
Agree if they are offered a HC job you let them go

        • BearDown100393

Oh definitely, but it does not seem that is on the table anyway.

      • Don’t think the Bears can deny them interviews for HC jobs or any other job which is a promotion.

I think they can only deny interviews with teams who want them at the same title.

        • BearDown100393

Technically, I think they can deny permission but it is an a-hole maneuver.

          • nope, cannot deny HC interviews. Can deny anything else.

          • BearDown100393

            Thanks.

          • That Guy

Teams can’t deny HC, GM or “control” interviews. Can deny anything else, even a promotion (so QB coach can be blocked from interviewing as an assistant HC elsewhere).

  • wreckinball

    Peyton makes it happen
I am a little surprised about the change but it looked good that drive

  • wreckinball

    Wow crazy game
Who’d a thunk the Chargers would make a game of it

    • THat’s why putting division rivals at the end of the schedule was a brilliant move by the NFL.

“Jets star Brandon Marshall seemed to be talking about fellow receiver Kenbrell Thompkins when he said, “At the end, we had our chances. We didn’t come through in our (WR) room. We’ve got to take advantage of that moment. That’s when you get a chance to make your name, and we just didn’t do that.” Thompkins had a long pass knocked out of his hands by Bills CB Mario Butler in the final seconds. It might have gone for a 73-yard TD.”

BMarsh tosses a fellow Jets WR beneath the bus. What the is over/under on the end of the BMarsh/Fitzpatrick bromance? Week 4 next year?

Brandon will remain civil until his numbers drop off due to injury or the team loses and he doesn’t get touches/tds

      • Irish Sweetness

He said that after 126 yards and a TD. Basically his weekly output this year.

His filter isn’t there, he speaks his mind. I’m kind of mystified why people hate him for that, as he is self-admittedly BPD, and there’s no medication for that. Yet OBJ can do what the fuck he likes on the field of play and not a word.

        • Ppl don’t like him cuz he’s a self-promoting loud mouth.

He’s taking veiled shots at Kendral Thompkins, a nobody?

Why not criticize the guy who threw 3 soul crushing INTs?

It’s not as if Bmarsh has had iron-clad hands.

He dropped an easy catch today, and if he would’ve catched an easy TD vs the Pats earlier in the season, they’d be in the playoffs.

So, really, Bmarsh literally let the playoffs slip through his hands. He should worry about himself or his QB before he starts blaming street FAs.

“The Bears were one of four teams that finished 6-10, but they’ll pick last out of that bunch because they had a more difficult strength of schedule. ”

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/ct-bears-2016-draft-order-schedule-20160103-story.html

    • Irish Sweetness

Apparently it doesn’t matter where we draft. I’m told.

      • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

I think we can all agree we’d take nearly any other teams first round selection instead of Shea, Kyle, etc

      • Big Mike

Very little carries over from season to season. Go look back at how we counted wins early on and who we were counting as Ws and who we werent. Skins were an easy win, MN was 2 wins, GB in GB was a loss. Detroit was a split, and so on and so on.

    • Shady

      Makes sense, I think.

    • wreckinball

      That sucks
      Should just draw straws

    • Big Mike

That’s parity. The shittier you are the lower you draft. Could be worse, could have beaten Detroit and been 16 or 17.

  • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

I hate/respect Clay Matthews. We need a guy like that on D badly.

    • Shady

      juice

      • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

        Naw

        • Shady

But I agree our D needs more talent, more McPhee violent types of dirty motheruckers. Someone who opposing offenses will look at and say we have to account for this guy on every snap.

          • Irish Sweetness

Hope we get a nasty OLB in the first…. or a nasty ILB. Just … nasty.

  • Cubsnlinux

Why do players in old NFL videos look so much bigger like they were dinosaurs? Is it because of weirdly stretched videos or…?

    • Irish Sweetness

Players used to be 8-bit. More blocky.

      • Cubsnlinux

        Ha

  • willbest

Oh look a team that goes for it rather than kicking the ball forward an additional 20 yards

    • Irish Sweetness

Nothing gets my goat more than punting it from the opposition’s 45 .. straight through their endzone.

  • Anonymous

Bad pass by Rodgers. He has been off for half the year. Strange.

    • Irish Sweetness

Worst year of his career by some way. Strange.

Gotta believe KC/HOU will be the first game next week. They usually put the worst TV draw as the SAT opener.

    • willbest

      Not whoever plays the Redskins?

      • Anonymous

MIN maybe. GB or SEA I would think not. Plus, DC’s not a bad media market.

  • Irish Sweetness

Some expert just said that the Panthers are the best team, but the Seahawks are the most dangerous ….

    Mmkay.

    • In some ways, this makes sense.

Panthers consistently win, but SEA can beat anybody (unlike say, the Skins).

It’s kinda like when the Gmen beat the Pats.

Pats were probably the better team, but not that day.

That being said, I still think SEA is BETTER (as in more talented overall) and more dangerous than the Panthers.

      • Irish Sweetness

Seattle beat a proper team on Sunday. Badly. With their third string RB.

        • willbest

5th actually. And all their rbs are better than lynch. Guy is exactly why you don’t pay old rbs big money

Within three hours I’m already tired of Peyton Manning redemption story.

  • Irish Sweetness

1-7 at home this season. Is that all on the ‘corporate’ fans?

  • Irish Sweetness

    DaBearsBlog @dabearsblog
Niners firing Tomsula is disgraceful. Team sucks. What is he supposed to do with it?

    Huh?

    • By that logic, we should’ve kept Trestman.

      • madscout12

No. Nessman got a 10-6 team with old players. Turned it into 8-8 and then 5-11.

Tomsula took a declining team and didn’t make them better in 1 year. Still not a good coach, which is why it sucks more that we lost to those fuckers at home.

  • Bridgewater. You have ONE job. Don’t make bozo lefthanded lobs into traffic.

    Well, two jobs.

    Hand it off to AP.

    • Shady

Kinda reminds me of this moment with Orton in Denver:

      (warning, shitty quality)

  • Wow. That’s a tough one. Empty hand rule, even though Rodgers still manages to push it forward?

    • Anonymous

Fumble. TD MIN. And by extension, pretty much ballgame.

New sheriff in town in the NFCN.

      • Are the Fudge that awful without Jordy, or are they losing to avoid SEA?

        • Anonymous

I think it’s a lot of things. Their O-line looks like a sieve in pass protection. Rodgers and the receivers timing seems off. And beside Nelson, they also seem to miss their rookie Ty Montgomery; in fact, when he went down is when their O started struggling.

Just seems like a bad year — killer penalties and fumbles and the like. They’ll have an interesting off-season. They might be looking for a WR of all things.

Btw, wonder if they regret giving Cobb the money they did.

          • Yeah, and either way, they don’t play SEA. They’ll play WASH or MIN.

If they do play SEA, it’ll be at home in the 2nd rd.

Their Oline is a huge liability.

        • willbest

win or lose they couldn’t play Seattle until conference championship and either way the game would be in GB

      • madscout12

The new sheriff plays with fing wall up front on D. (hopes Bears get the players to play with a fing wall up front on D)

        • Anonymous

Zimmer knows how to build and coach a D.

    • madscout12

Who expected it to be called back. I know I did. And it would have been a damn shame too, as that is the exact same fumble that went against the bears in 2013.

  • BillW

I don’t care about playoff opponents. I just want to see gb lose tonight and next week.

    • Anonymous

Then your football-watching season should end next week.

But beware getting too caught up in Cheese hate. MIN might be the team we most need to worry about moving forward.

      • BillW

Yes. Minnesota will be strong than gb. But gb winning doesn’t make Mn easier. So I want gb to lose.

  • For once I agree with Collins. McKinnon is no joke. Explosive. 5’9 215.

He did well last year too. Obviously, he’s no AP, but not shabby for a backup

  • Has a team made two successful fake punts in one game?

    • Anonymous

Yeah, that has to be rare. I was surprised that, until AP this year, there had only been two guys ever to win a rushing title at 30 or older: Marion Motley and Curtis Martin.

Would have thought Walter or Emmit Smith might have done it. Even Riggins.

      • Marcus Allen was pretty effective when older too.

That is odd. Though it might become more prevalent in an HB by committee league.

No longer need 1800 yds + to win the rushing title. Now if a 30+ HB has the backfield to himself, he has an advantage over those other younger backs in a timeshare.

That’s kinda what happened to Doug Martin. If he had the backfield to himself, he might’ve won, but Charles Sim came in on a lot of passing downs.

  • BillW

Minnesota in their typical choke mode against gb. Earlier in the week some Viking player said they were intimidated by them.

  • BearDown100393

Grimace coaching against the purple is just plain weird.

  • MB30SD
  • BearDown100393

Wide receivers did nothing to get open on 4th down. Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

    • MB30SD

      eeeeexcellent

      (i don’t know, I’m on a simpsons thing right now I guess)

  • madscout12

    Good god, Vikings.

    • BearDown100393

      Thor must hate them.

      • madscout12

He doesn’t have to, they seem to hate themselves. And that was on Teddy. Put it at Child Beater’s knees.

  • Anonymous

Actually that looked to be on Teddy.

  • BillW

Let’s say it. Rodgers sucks at 1st and goal with the game on the line. First us and now Mn

    • BearDown100393

He sucks on the other downs also.

      • BillW

Right. I mean he gets 4 plays from the 10 or closer and can’t do it

        • BearDown100393

Rodgers trolls the zebras for PI calls to get 1st and goal.

  • BearDown100393

The mediocre ex-receiver defends pylons in the end zone.

  • madscout12

Fuck you, Collinsworth. That “brilliant” play was a blown coverage, and about 7 holds by the GB line, set up by 2 non-call delay of games. Fuck GB.

    • BillW

And Caldwell playing for a lateral drill and not a hail Mary. Set up by a phantom face mask call. But can’t leave the narrative.

    • BearDown100393

NBC really needs to get his deviated septum straightened.

  • madscout12

God damn, did they just give them a gift. Extra second.

Also, way to fold, Erin. Way to fold.

    • BillW

He is the worst comeback qb of all the top ones

      • Anonymous

He does seem to have that working against him. That 4th down RZ INT was a bad pass, though I guess it’s semi-excusable as it was fourth down.

Anyway, horrible year for Rodgers. Bad O-line and no Jordy accounts for some of it but not all of it. He stuck by his standards.

  • Anonymous

Sucks MIN is heading back to a dome after this season. Hate domes.

    • BearDown100393

  • BearDown100393

That last play should never have happened. Clock ran out. Game was over.

    • BillW

We all play 60 minute games. GB always gets 1 more second

  • BillW

Did Michaels say “can he get to the line to spike it?” . It was 4th down!!

    • BillW

      Rewound it. Yep.

    • BearDown100393

He was being careful not to say “kneel down” after last week…….

Draft order if it hasn’t been posted yet:

    Titans

    Browns
    Chargers
    Cowboys
    Jaguars
    Ravens
    49ers
    Dolphins
    Buccaneers
    Giants
    Bears
    Saints
    Eagles
    Raiders
    Rams
    Lions
    Falcons
    Colts
    Bills
    Jets

    • My waaaaay too early draft predictions.

Titans need to protect Mariota. LT
Browns done with Johnny Rehab: QB
Cowboys upgrade D. Dline, most likely Bosa
Jags could go a lot of ways, but…: CB
Ravens tend to take BPA, but their secondary is a sieve: CB/OT
      9ers need QB.
      Fins? Prolly pass rush
Bucs need to protect Winston, but you know Lovie. Dline.
      Gmen desperately need D-Oline.
      Bears. Dline/ILB/S/OT

      • Anonymous

But damn, how many QBs can CLE miss on? Doesn’t it seem like they take one every other year?

        • I think they almost MUST take a QB.

Manziel apparently didn’t even show up on Sun to the facility, and lied about partying out of state. Not only that, but he posted a pic of him to PRETEND he was indeed in Ohio, and not Vegas (from what I’m gathering).

          They need to press reset…again.

That or throw the bank to get Payton and Brees, which would also be typical Browns.

          • BearDown100393

Manziel should be fired with just cause.

          • That Guy

That can’t fire him until after the Superbowl. But they should have cut him before the season.

He could be Ryan Leaf, unable to handle the spotlight and too busy partying to improve. He could be Rob Gronkowski, a fratboy with a phat bank account, but a real soldier on the field. The way the organization treats Manziel, I don’t think anyone can be motivated to put in QB hours in that environment.

    • BillW

Curious where we’d be had we won. Don’t know all the tie breakers with the other 7-9 teams

  • Irish Sweetness

    Teddy’s stats:

    Good luck with Seattle.

Chip Kelly to San Francisco would be interesting. Still think he is better off going back to college.

      • I doubt he goes to SF. The management there are a bunch of meddlers. Ran off Harbs, and he wasn’t even demanding personnel powers.

Kelly will likely go to a desperate sucky team with absentee owners. Titans fit that bill.

        • Anonymous

I liked That Guy’s idea: Kelly cools his jets a bit as OC — just focuses on coaching — and maybe learns to HC better by stepping back from it and working under an accomplished dude.

          • Not sure Kelly’s ego would accept that. He didn’t even want to give up GM powers.
If Kelly does accept an OC job, I’d be surprised.

But he may not have a choice. All the hot college jobs are gone, and not many teams are willing to give up GM powers, or believe in his system.

          • That Guy

That was my suggestion, but I agree with Butch that it won’t happen. Kelly either gets a HC gig this season (which is likely) or he takes a year off. Lovie Smith was the same way – HC or bust. Nobody wanted Lovie the first year, but a year later he was a hot commodity again.

Still, with so much turnover this year, I suspect at least a couple of teams will be seriously interested. If Kelly’s agent can create a sense of urgency, somebody will sign Kelly to avoid losing him to the competition and miss out interviewing all the coordinators whose teams are still in the playoffs.

    • Anonymous

DET could be the most interesting. Caldwell seems like a coin flip.

  • Blackhawks63

Well, I would say Seattle destroys Minnesota next week and that Green Bay handily beats Washington. Packers actually lucked out getting the Skins next week, because that is the one playoff team in the NFC they can beat.

    • Anonymous

Washington is the worst team … except for the Cheese themselves.
