DBB Weekend Show – Week 15 [AUDIO]

| December 15th, 2016

ON THIS EPISODE OF THE (Abbreviated) WEEKEND SHOW:

  • Jeff challenges Greg Gabriel’s belief that Matt Barkley is not a professional-caliber quarterback, using quotes from Gabriel’s own column.
  • A clip from the classic L.A. Story.
  • Reverend Dave believes Josh Bellamy is the Andie MacDowell of the 2016 Chicago Bears. (He get it there, trust me.)
  • Prediction. Bear weather. And the team that’s better at running it (Bears) and stopping the run (Bears) wins in -20 wind chill. 13-10!

First to state I would not want to be outside watching this stuff.

    But Bear Down!

  • A Most Excellent Dude (GP)

    Fuck Soundcloud.

Jeff without music is like Da Blog w/o titties.

    • DaBearsBlog

And the Christmas episode is net week! I will solve this. Not sure how but I will find a way.

      • AlbertInTucson

Can you adjust the speed of the music, slightly?

Sometimes the change in tempo fools the watchdog software. It’s how a lot of movies get played in full on the internet.

  • CanadaBear

Not sure the Beloved are going to win but I hope with Erin’s limited mobility he takes some hellacious shots and bows out. I also hope that Sitton hates Matthews and puts his helmet in Matthews earhole at about 15 mph. Fuck I hate these bastards.

    • AlbertInTucson

Below zero can’t possible make his calf and his hammy feel BETTER.

      • CanadaBear

I’m guessing everything will be out of his hands in a hurry. If not, I hope the Beloved are up to the challenge. I’m trying to be sensible and hope for a close loss for a better draft pick but I hate Erin and Matthews so much I’ll be dancing a jig if the Beloved win.

        • SC Dave

NEVER and loss to the Packers. NEVER!!!!!

          • CanadaBear

The last couple of years I’ve tried to come over to the dark side and root for close losses when the season is lost. I saw how losing worked for the Cubs the last few years and thought, OK. I’m saying hoping for a close loss but in my heart I want them to smoke ’em and leave the field littered with broken down Fudgies.

          • willbest

That might work if the NFL had a minor league farm system, and the average player’s career upon making a 53-man roster wasn’t 6 years

          • CanadaBear

If you’ve got a very good GM losing in a lost season makes sense. Just don’t tank it.

          • willbest

Denver and Seattle have the right of it. You don’t build through the draft so much as find undervalued labor there. Elway was able to buy Talib, Ware, and that safety even though he was giving away the farm to Manning because Von Miller, Malik Jackson, Trevethan, and BMarsh 2.0 were on peanut deals.

Seattle ended up with a stacked team the same way. Bought them some high quality mercs because they weren’t paying their secondary anything.

          • CanadaBear

Yep. Wilson on a cheap contract left a lot of money to go elsewhere.

          • SC Dave

Not to Green Bay, it doesn’t!

          • Irish Sweetness

I was kind of hoping we’d be extra terrible once cutty went down, but we can never ever ever hope to lose to the Packers. I hope we cream them.

          • SC Dave

            Damnit… THIS!!

          • Big Mike

I’m 100% in favor of close losses. Character losses, guys play hard, come up short because we’re fielding our JV.

            EXCEPT FOR PACKER WEEK.

        • AlbertInTucson

A loss to the Bears and the playoff run is OVER for the Packers.

I’d be happy to see THAT.

    • Irish Sweetness

Will he be introduced as ‘Josh Shitton’ for the third week in a row?

      • CanadaBear

I did not know that! I’m sure he REALLY appreciates it.

        • SC Dave

Butkus used to imagine any time the other team players laughed, they were laughing at him. You saw what that did.

I’d tell Sitton all about it.

    • Big Mike

      Fuck the Packers.

  • A Most Excellent Dude (GP)

    Colder than Olivia Munn’s tit

She’s in Christmas Party, btw. Not sure if that will be funny.

    • CanadaBear

OM’s boobs are pretty warm if you also happen to have a nice set and a vagina!

    • Irish Sweetness

      Comedies aren’t.

  • willbest

Responding to MB from last thread.

    “Yaaaaaawn.

How many games has he played again?”

More than Kyle Long (and hoyer, goldman, cutler, white, trevethan, mcphee, fuller, wilson, miller, houston, ferguson, suton, grasu, etc). same number as royal, freeman.

Though I suppose if we are going to be fair to the guy we just backed the money truck up to he has played 1 more game than Jeffery over the last 4 years (assuming Jeffery plays the last 3 games).

    • Irish Sweetness

What happened in the thread of Alshon … stays there.

I nearly forgot – it’s the season of destiny next year. So we’ll need AJ around.

      And Rogue One ROCKS.

      • SC Dave

There we go!! Season of Destiny!

      • Bender McLugh

Rogue One – I saw a very short leaked clip showing Vader going OFF on dudes, no holds barred. Can’t flippin wait

  • Irish Sweetness

BTW – go back and look at the Salma Hayek clip on the last thread. QT is a known foot fetishist, and it’s pretty gross that he gets to suck on her foot just because he’s the director.

    {No Irish! That’s how the world works!}

    • CanadaBear

I’m pretty sure that movie made her a star. If all she had to do was let that weirdo suck her toes she should consider herself lucky. Still like his movies.

      • Bender McLugh

her nude scene in Desperado is what made her a star. yowsa

        • willbest

She was nude in desperado? I don’t recall tits or bush. I will have to watch it again.

          • Bender McLugh

ohhhh yes, incredible scene. the first movie

          • CanadaBear

It needed much better lighting! Saw her naked in Frida and some artsy fartsy movie that was terrible (that description would also apply to Frida but the other one REALLY sucked).

        • CanadaBear

Was that before From Dusk Til Dawn?

          • Bender McLugh

            yep

          • CanadaBear

Had to look it up. The year before.

    • willbest

You know those directors bang every actress and actor on the set they want right?

      • Irish Sweetness

I’ll have to see about that!

        • willbest

As do the producers and casting agents… basically anybody that gets to make the subjective decision about who to hire.

      • BearDown100393

        Except HBO’s Girls

        • willbest

Well that was Dunghamburger’s complaint. Sexy beasts like ODB don’t find her attractive and how dare he because sexism. That/Those director(s) is(are) probably busy banging the hair dressers though.

  • A Most Excellent Dude (GP)

I changed my Yahoo email password to “MarissasWinkingAsshole69”

Jesus, what a shitshow career killer. She got paid good but that ship is on fire.

    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-12-15/verizon-said-to-explore-lower-price-or-even-exit-from-yahoo-deal

    • willbest

Google destroyed yahoo’s core revenue stream before she took over. The company was just more diversified than when FB crushed myspace. Doesn’t matter who was hired it was a hail mary.

Bezos is the guy that I am impressed with. Amazon started as an online retailer, which actually has exceptionally limited growth potential owing to the tiny margins on retail consumer products. But he reinvested into a whole host of growing tech services like cloud computing, digital publishing, even micro contract employing.

Pretty impressive for a guy who legitimately started out in a garage. I remember him doing an interview with I think Conan back in the early 2000s where he was saying how they were just boxing stuff up on the floor and he was telling his employee that he was going to be getting them kneepads soon and they responded with something along the lines of “um, how about packing tables”

      • BerwynBomber

Yeah, but she was an idiot all the same. Early tipoff? When she immediately killed the notion of telecommuting for Yahoo employees. Really? You’re leading a large, global Silicon Valley-based high tech company and you are killing off the idea of virtual offices?

That would be like the CEO of Ford requiring all its employees to travel to work via horse and buggy.

        #Moronic

        • willbest

Wait you mean not every employee was allowed to retool the adjacent office into a nursery for their Au Pair to use?

  • Big Mike

and furthermore. Tag alshon πŸ™‚ I kid. Opinions all heard. A fun debate. Made me think through my position. I’m doubling down on it. πŸ™‚

  • Huge Bears Penis

I think we should give AJ $20mill a year for the next 5 years, he will be a great complement to the future HOFer BRAVERMAN! plus I want to see Irish’s head explode.

    • willbest

“Today the Chicago Bears and Alshon Jeffery announce that they have come to terms on a 5year $100 million dollar, $60 million guarantee deal, and in international news a man wearing a Walter Payton jersey stabs 37 people in a local sports bar in Thiland.

      • Huge Bears Penis

        sounds about right.

      • Irish Sweetness

If he plays like fitz …. and I wish I could wear one of my two WP jerseys. One is size L and one is XL .. and you’d have to be Jabba the Hut to wear either.

I am re-thinking my Alshon status after the back and forth today. If they tag him or don’t … I’m good. Whether or not we win a Lombardi won’t come down to that.

It’s that goon on Forbes talking about Cutty being our best ever QB that irks.

I still can’t believe their disclaimer that if you log in with Twitter, they reserve the right to post tweets on your behalf.

        • willbest

Yeah that is a bit nuts. You can’t just put Sid or Jim in the modern game and say Cutler is better. Cutler couldn’t play in their era any more than they in his or each others. Cutler is clearly the 3rd best Bears QB if you put them each into their historical context.

          • Huge Bears Penis

Nope NECKBEARD is the Greatest. so cutty would be 4th.

          • Irish Sweetness

Did anyone get close to his rookie 10-6?

          • Huge Bears Penis

Craig Krenzel won 60 percent of his games he started.

  • Huge Bears Penis

It seems there is one thing that fans don’t seem to take into account when it comes to contracts for players. The salary cap has raised over $30 million dollars since 2013. Guess what it will go up another $10-15 million next year and then again the year after. So for those saying AJ only “deserves” $10 mill a year should just stop. Does AJ “deserve” AJ Green money, no he doesn’t.

BUT With the salary cap increase over the last several years and years to come coupled with Vet Minimums not changing significantly and the rookie wage scale, there is a lot of extra money that needs to be spent. Agents and Players are going to push for the most money possible, so there is a good possibility that Jeffery will get close to or better than AJ Green contract.

As of right now there are 11 teams that will go into next year with over $40 million in cap space, several have over $60 mill.

    • BerwynBomber

This happened in the NBA recently too, which is why Jimmy Butler’s contract — which seemed fair when signed — now looks like an absolute steal for the organization.

One thing though: are NFL teams required to spend X amount or percentage of the cap? If not, that could factor into the Alshon decision as well.

      • willbest

NFL teams are required to spend something like 92% of the salary cap over a 5 year period or the money gets bonused out to the players by some formula.

    • willbest

Preach! The problem most people have is they can compare Jeffery and Green and decide who is better. So it triggers their sense of fairness if they end up with the same amount of money. The difference is Green signed his deal when there was X money, and Jeffery is going to sign his deal when there is 1.2X money. So relative to the total pot at the time the deal was made Jeffery is making less than Green, but in terms of whose bank account is bigger well they are on equal footing.

This is why I love what Revis did. He ran around on short term Merc deals maximizing his money as the cap increases, and then right before his talent slipped from elite to very good locks in a lot of guarantees.

    • Huge Bears Penis

my bad my last sentence about teams over $40 million was based on http://overthecap.com/salary-cap-space/

sporttrac probably has more accurate numbers
      http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/cap/2017/

      • willbest

Well you also don’t know who is getting cut. Like when Romo despite Jerry’s love becomes a cap casualty they gain $6 million or something. And we are at $62 mil now (which doesn’t include Jeffery) but that rises by $22 million when we cut Royal and Cutler.

Point is the league is flush with cash and if you look at the FA class, Jeffery is one of the gems.

        • Irish Sweetness

I am confused. Why do we cut Cutler when there is most definitely and unequivocally a second round pick for him at the very minimum?

          NYJ. CLE. BUF.

There’s three. Kristin in the big Apple (er …Nu Joisey) .. MAtty … Brandon …

          • willbest

I am confident we could move Cutler but, to get it above a 3rd rounder its going to need to be conditional. So if he is medically cleared to play 14 games we get a 2nd, otherwise we get a 4th sort of thing.

          • Irish Sweetness

Geno Smith and Fitzy’s contract are up, so NYJ really have to think on. Kirk Cousin’s is up too …

          • willbest

Kirk Cousin’s is a better QB than Jay Cutler and teams won’t have to give anything up for him. The only reason why there is a market for Cutler is that there is more teams in need of QB’s than QBs available.

          • BerwynBomber

“Kirk Cousin’s is a better QB than Jay Cutler”

I have been an eight year Cutty skeptic but I still have a hard time wrapping my head around that. Cousins? Really? Yeah, I guess …

          • willbest

Gotta be a realist. Keep in mind for the first 3 years Cousins was a back up that did okay relief work. But last year was the first year he was QB1 for the seasons and he had a QBR of 70 and a PR of 101. This year he is averaging a PR of 100 and a QBR around 75. His Career passer rating is 94. Cutler’s best QBR as a Bear was 67 (2013) and his Best passer rating 92 (2015).

          • BerwynBomber

Oh hear ya. Cousins, I suppose, is sort of the anti-Cutler: a guy whose skills belie his performance numbers whereas Cutty is the guy whose performance numbers belie his skills.

          • SC Dave

            Age if nothing else

        • Irish Sweetness

On FA WRS .. there is a plethora upcoming :

VJ, Garcon, DeSean Jackson, Britt (4M!), Kamar Aiken (3M!), Kendall Wright, Cordarelle, Brandon LAFell, Ted Ginn Jr, Brian Quick, Percy Harvin, Terelle Pryor, Kenny Stills, Kerley

Alshon’s tag could pay for almost any 4 of those guys.

          http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/

          • willbest

But then you have 4 of those guys. Some of those guys have injury issues, some are going to get paid considerably more, some just aren’t as good as you are implying by listing them, and a lot just won’t make it to FA because teams will resign them. But hypothetically if you get 4 of those guys, it doesn’t do you any good because unless you are running 4 wide you aren’t going to get a mismatch on coverage.

There really is a MASSIVE, YUUUGGE difference between WRs that can more or less be covered by 1 DB and those that demand the attention of 1.5 DBs.

Jeffery deserves to get paid like 3 of those guys because you can only put 11 guys on the field and Jeffery is going to fully occupy 1.5 of those guys. This means the rest of your team is playing 10 on 9.5. And that is why difference makers make $10+ million, and competent players make league min to $5 million.

          • SC Dave

Fucking spot on. Talent density matters

          • SC Dave

And he is worth more than any 4 put together

  • BearDown100393

The Bears should honor Favre on Sunday. And invite Erin’s family to the game.

    • Irish Sweetness

Yeah, bring him out, bring out his family … and then on the mega-screen bring up the cock shot he sent to that chick at the Jets.

      • CanadaBear

Hopefully it would look bigger on the mega screen!

      • BearDown100393

        Invite Sterger also.

  • CanadaBear

Just read that Foxy said Q has yet another foot injury (already has broken bones in his feet twice before). It’s been nice knowing ya Q. Watch, he’ll be like Columbo and stay healthy with the new team and be a decent player for a few years. Bears luck.

    • Bender McLugh

      for the Patriots

    • willbest

He was gone either way. He could never stay healthy.

      • SC Dave

Not to mention is a not good enough anyway

        • CanadaBear

I actually think he could be a legit #3 if he could stay healthy.

They have Cutty as the second most overpaid player in the NFL. I’ve already written to the child that wrote the article, who couldn’t even get his facts straight on the salary.

Floyd to the patriots, good job 29 other NFL teams that could have claimed him first

    • BerwynBomber

I said this yesterday when people were hoping for the Bears to get him:

My guess is that Floyd would have his pick of suitors and would therefore likely choose a contender. The fact that he ended up with the Pats is ONLY surprising if one suspected NE wasn’t interested in him. Otherwise, why wouldn’t he go there?

      • willbest

Because he had to go through waivers so like the Ravens who are on the bubble for the playoffs and in need of a WR could use him. Then again, I suppose he is going to have to serve some sort of suspension for the DUI at some point.

        • BerwynBomber

Right but multiple teams can put in a waiver claim on a player, correct? So it is my understanding when that happens the player can ultimately choose which team he wants to join. (Correct me if I’m wrong.) Hence, no surprise he would choose a sure thing.

P.S. Ravens are a nice team having a solid bounce back year but there are no guarantee to even make the playoffs.

P.S.2. the idea that he would come to Chicago and catch passes from Barkley for a few weeks seemed pure pipedream.

          • willbest

No waivers are whoever has the highest priority assumes the contract. So now the Cards aren’t eating whatever they owe him for those 3 weeks, the new team is. So if the Browns and Pats had both claimed him, he would be on the Browns right now.

If he had cleared waivers he could a) sign with whoever he wanted; b) Cardinals would eat whatever it is they still owed him.

          • SC Dave

Dunno… with Alshon on the other side…

          • Irish Sweetness

Lots of nice FA receivers this year ….

    • Irish Sweetness

      Annual Christmas joke:

Vader: Hey Luke, I know what you’re getting for Christmas …

Luke: Hannukah, but whatever ….how do you know?

Vader: I felt your presents !!!

    From PFT:
But the Patriots surely didn’t claim Floyd on waivers simply for what he can do for them over the balance of the season. As Floyd enters the final three games of his rookie contract, the Patriots have acquired another significant benefit: The ability to have Floyd’s potential departure in free agency count toward their 2018 compensatory draft picks.

Also – they are working out The Ridiculous One

(what did the blog used to call him? Skunk, I think? As in “I smelled that skunk before…”)

Its like the Pats are playing 3D dimensional chess while the rest of the league plays checkers. Good lord Arizona. Suspend him yourself to demonstrate you don’t tolerate that kind of character and let him hit FA where he can net you a draft pick.

      • MB30SD

Yeah, we should try to emulate that… Let’s stick with trying to be the jags.

        Fucken a, we’re already jags

        • Sauron’s right eyeball

It’s pitiful ain’t it. 10 years from now they’ll be memorializing the Lovie years. Cough….cough…

          • MB30SD

Just so sick of being shitty. Our biggest trade partnes are the fucking jags and… Can’t even remember, some other shitbag team.

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

            And….wait for it….

            The Bucs.

          • MB30SD

            Oh right.

But look at them now. Lovie gets shitcanned and lo and behold…

Bet we won’t be trading anything with them after this year… They’re too good now

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

Lol. Not sure if the Glazer family didn’t deserve their woes though. They kinda remind me of another football family…nah, the Glazers are much bigger deuches.

          • MB30SD

            Is that really possible?!?

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

            Slightly.

          • MB30SD

            Mmmmmm

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

            Lol

          • MB30SD

            Quite

          • CanadaBear

Glazers are assholes, McCaskeys are just clueless. Sigh.

          • MB30SD

exactly. I’d rather have assholes who want to win than clueless fucks who don’t even know how to go about starting to.

          • Irish Sweetness

Glazers own the biggest football team on the planet. Bar none.

The Bucs are just a toy.

        • BearDown100393

          Ray McDonald

          • MB30SD

            Fuck yes! Take a flyer.

            Burfict
            The honey badger

Fuck at least a % of those will work out.

          • Irish Sweetness

This is it. Pace wants choir boys. NFL players are bad boys, assholes and criminals …. sometimes.

  • MB30SD

My angst isn’t directed towards this team actually, it’s Ted fucking Phillips and his air of not giving a fuck. That’s not conjecture, that’s a direct fucking quote in the news. He doesn’t give a shit about wins, playoff appearances or Lombardis.

You have that cancer at the top and we’ll never have a real chance at being consistently good.

I like pace and some of this young squad… Even a lot of it. Can cutler, can fox, bring in young and hungry and aggressive and for all that’s holy… Shoot Ted Phillips in the back of the head behind the barn, like right now.

Bring in nationwide to work hand in hand with pace and I bet our arrow will get a huge errection

    • Sauron’s right eyeball

This is what happens when the mafia goes legit. They turn into pussies.

      • MB30SD

Fuck that… I want the bears of old… Sick of being an NFL joke

        • Sauron’s right eyeball

          Jay. Fuuken. Cutler.

          • MB30SD

Meh, he’s just the effect maings. Ted Phillips is the head of the serpent.

I mean, I have to wear a fucking dress… To a popular bar… On playoff weekend.

Because our team isn’t as good as the… San Diego fucking chargers!?!?!

The chargers man!!! The unluckiest football team in the history of the NFL… And probably any other sport. Smmfh

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

He’s our identity. Good bad or indifferent. Ask Dan Dierdorph.

          • MB30SD

            Fuck Dan dierdorf

          • CanadaBear

That’s what you get for betting on the Beloved. Ask most of us old guys about betting on the Bears. Not gonna happen! We really need to see pics, you know that.

          • MB30SD

I have to… I still loves them. Like an alcoholic gf who used to be and can once again be so so hot…

I’ll think about it. There will be face/head cropping involved

          • CanadaBear

Cue the short jokes! If you were a drinker I could see you getting hammered and getting into it. Since you aren’t a drinker that seems unlikely.

          • MB30SD

            6’1″ in heels baby!

          • SC Dave

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. No WONDER you’ve been whining like a little girl lately.

            [Sorry, had to do that]

          • MB30SD

            hahahaha. fair enough.

was in a horrible mood today. Not normal for me… maybe uncle flo is coming soon.

          • Huge Bears Penis

try watching midget porn. that always seems to cheer me up.

          • Irish Sweetness

Now way. Sucking balls for 30 years ain’t on Jay.

I’m still burning after that Forbes article. Part of me thinks Jay would not have won the Lombardi in ’85/’86. And no way he wins 25 in a row. Jim was a winner. Jay was not. .500 isn’t doing it.

    • ButtonShoes

Keep in mind that the cancer known as Ted Phillips is there because of the cancer known as the McCaskey family. That problem at the very top is the one that needs to be fixed.

      • BearDown100393

Phillips is a tumor growing on top of melanoma.

        • ButtonShoes

          Exactly.

        • MB30SD

          let’s excise the tumor first.

and I didn’t know you could get melanoma in the crack of your ass… RIGHT next to your asshole.

          • Irish Sweetness

Farrah Fawcett died of ass cancer.

          • MB30SD

            That sucks

      • MB30SD

that will NEVER happen. I’m just focusing on what’s really possible.

OId money is old because the new parts of the old money are lazy and have no clue how the old money was made, they just know they get a fat check every month and don’t have to do the hard stuff the old money did to get it… it’s theirs now by default and they don’t want to lose the ability to be useless pieces of abject shit and do nothing… but still get all the old money for doing it.

        Right.

        • ButtonShoes

A man can dream, can’t he?

          • MB30SD

            jes

        • SC Dave

I think the McCaskeys have NO IDEA how much MORE money their checks would have were the team run by a competent FOOTBALL man rather than a fucking bean counter.

          • MB30SD

            EXACTLY!!!

I’ve said it for years! If we were consistently good for like 2-3 years, had a SB win, and started looking like a dynasty… we’d easily be one of the top 3 most popular and biggest revenue teams.

With our history, colors, mascot (not some fucking quartz 80s wristwatch numbers and a pirate), the mcCaskey’s would be ROLLING in cash.

Fucking lazy, myopic idiots. boggles the mind dave.

        • Irish Sweetness

It’s certainly no coincidence that the last time we were great, GSH put that org together. When the trust fund babies took over…. kaka.

          • MB30SD

            Bingo

      • Irish Sweetness

That’s an uncontrollable. Ted is an employee – as an owner – I would have fired a long time ago.

        • ButtonShoes

I’m with you – I would have fired him, too. But the McCaskeys love that clown. Which is why, in order to get rid of Phillips, you need to get rid of the fucking McCaskeys.

          • SC Dave

            We just need some pictures.

    • SC Dave

Can’t help but agree on Phillips. But then again, he is doing EXACTLY what the owners hired him to do. Or so they believe.

      • MB30SD

sure, but can’t get rid of them.

    • Irish Sweetness

I’ve felt that way about Phillips since day one. He’s been losing for 20 … 25 years ? He’s done nothing but oversee mediocrity in that time. people will say “he’s just the bean counter…”

He’s the fkn Prez and CEO of the Bears!!!! How is he not … I don’t know .. not directly fucking responsible for the team??? In any other business, the buck stops there. Why not football?

He was fine with all of the bullshit coaches. He was fine with a superbowl roster being headed up by Rex Grossout. “Oh that’s not his business …”. Bullshit! It is ENTIRELY his business. He’s the top banana.

      • MB30SD

        Bingo again

  • MB30SD

man I’d like to give lovie a set of Japanese Rain Goggles.

  • ButtonShoes

The more I think about it, the more I believe that Fox and Loggains need to be fired ASAP, and Vic Fangio made head coach.

    • Irish Sweetness

I’d keep Fox and ditch No Balls.

Pressure. We are the Chicago Bears.

    • SC Dave

I don;t think we need to fire any of them. What we need is a moderately healthy team.

I don’t see why we would promote our DC to HC when he’s still getting the defense where it needs to be. The job ain’t finished yet.

  • willbest

McPhee doesn’t want to wear sleeves…. Look there is tough and then there is fucking cellular damage.

    • ButtonShoes

Pernell, wear the goddamn sleeves. Your knees are already a wreck: do you want to ruin your arms now, too?

    • AlbertInTucson

Ask some old Cowboys about playing in conditions like that.

  • willbest
    • MB30SD

fuck that. not doing that shit for a while.

that said, pretty sure that if I had a bone in me cack, I would have snapped it by now.

      • SC Dave

Or worse, pushed it through the side.

        • MB30SD

          duuuuuuuude!!!!!!!!!!!

  • AlbertInTucson

Just got home and tuned in the game.

    Those uniforms are HIDEOUS!

    Please, STOP this madness.

    • SC Dave

      Guess it’s good I don’t have a TV.

    • MB30SD

      I love them!

      • AlbertInTucson

        Color blind?

        • MB30SD

hahahaha, nah, just like all one color. they’re so fucking ugly, they’re awesome!

My dad IS color blind though. Cracks my kids up!

          My dad: Grey

they’re rolling on the floor cracking up.

  • AlbertInTucson

    What to watch tonight:

I sat Baldwin tonight and left Graham in my FF lineup this week.

    • Irish Sweetness

      Can’t sit Baldwin, too studly.

      • AlbertInTucson

        Helluva time to tell me.

  • AlbertInTucson

So as Collinsworth is making excuses for Wilson’s game last week, Russell promptly misses an open slant.

Chris, tipped passes and deflections or not, Wilson SUCKED in Green Bay.

    Period.

  • AlbertInTucson

Todd Gurley has been more like Todd GIRLY this season.

  • BuddhaJoe

Wait, people are actually watching the game tonight? Why? We’re watching Chopped reruns and even that’s better.

    • AlbertInTucson

Well, anyone who took Seattle -15 or so is nervous.

      • BuddhaJoe

Well for some completely random reason the Rams have the Seahawks’ number even though they suck. Not sure I would’ve taken it even if it was a pick ’em game.

  • Huge Bears Penis

holy crapsticks, those uniforms are awful. Nike should think about hiring a woman or a gay guy to design uniforms.

  • AlbertInTucson

Samurai Mike is on the Ram staff.

  • AlbertInTucson

I dont think he got it.

    • AlbertInTucson

Gurley was Girly on that run.

  • BearDown100393

    Fluorescent Snot

    • MB30SD

  • BearDown100393

John Fassel vs Marc Trestman in an arm wrestle, who wins?

    • Huge Bears Penis

is this one of those things where there is no clear winner even people watching?

  • AlbertInTucson

    Wrong tight end you jerks.

  • MB30SD

Kinda love fucking seattle man. the LBs are insane. Amazing players man. Wright and wagner are serious beasts.

I take wagner over Klukey in a heartbeat man. HART… BEET!

    • Bender McLugh

      Dude is abeast

      • MB30SD

amazing man. like a magnet to iron.

    • SC Dave

Just watch Luke more (assuming he comes back, that is).

You’ll change your mind. Best in the game.

      • MB30SD

nope. wagner is even better this year. dude is untouchable.

most tackles in the NFL this year. he’s ridiculous.

        • SC Dave

I’d take either, but the numbers favor Luke. Open these links up side-by-side. Honestly, I did not think Wagner would be as close as he is. Still, while Wagner has more sacks, Luke leads in every other category. The disparity in interceptions and passes defensed is particularly pronounced.

          http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/K/KuecLu00.htm
          http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/W/WagnBo00.htm

I’m definitely not trying to put Wagner down; he is obviously a beast. It’s just Luke Kuechly is THAT good. To my eye, the best since Ray Lewis (I rate them about the same, although Luke obviously has a looong time to go to match Lewis’ accomplishments).

Unfortunately, he may be done. Were I him, I’d be having serious reservations about returning to the NFL. He has a fair sum of money, and will be able to make money in Charlotte for a long time doing ads and the like.

    • Huge Bears Penis

which Seattle man do you kinda love fucking?

      • MB30SD

        Doc is from seattle!

damn english teacher. You like my dangling participle do you?!

        • Huge Bears Penis

don’t have to worry about me liking it, as long as that Seattle man likes it dangling.

          • MB30SD

            true. I’m sure he does

  • AlbertInTucson

    What a ridiculous play.

    • BearDown100393

      Dumb play call.

      • AlbertInTucson

Short, even if he gets it there.

  • BearDown100393

The Rams are a bigger joke without Fisher. Putrid.

    • MB30SD

      turrible

  • BearDown100393

Nice shot of the Rams GM picking at his teeth.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Jail break.

    • MB30SD

    “B. Quick”

    Cool name.

Edit: And lol… he’s from here!

    • Irish Sweetness

A free agent for about 2 Mill in the off-season.

  • AlbertInTucson

Give the Ram defense credit. They showed up tonight.

  • BearDown100393

In other words, Aaron Donald likes to doodle in a book.

  • AlbertInTucson

Any relation to former Eagle, JIM Quick?

    • AlbertInTucson

      Checked.

      Apparently. not.

  • MB30SD

    collinsworth is such a dolt.

‘This seattle defense really has two game-changing players… early thomas (agree) and bennett.”

Dude, wtf are you talking about??! How about avril, wright, WAGNER, KAM, sherman, etc… etc…

That was a seriously dumb comment.

    • BearDown100393

Don’t worry. Only half-time. Collinsworth will say at least 3 more statements even dumber.

  • BuddhaJoe

I want to like the Seachickens because their D is awesome and reminds me of the Bears back in the good times. But fuck Russell Wilson, fuck Pete Carroll, fuck the “12th man” douche nozzles, and screw it fuck the Seachickens.

  • AlbertInTucson

Blackhawks quietly leading the NHL despite 9 games without their Captain and minus their starting goaltender.

5-4 winners on the road again tonight in Brooklyn.

  • BearDown100393

    Goff is Grossman 2.0

    • BuddhaJoe

At least Sexy Rexy only cost one pick, not half of two drafts. The Rams really fucked themselves on that one, and now they gotta find a coach who’s OK with being stuck with him.

      • BearDown100393

        Lovie Smith

        • BuddhaJoe

I bet it’s McDouche, I think Lovie’s NFL career is done.

          • MB30SD

            agree. and thank god.

          • BuddhaJoe

I do wish him well in college though. I always thought he was a good guy and would be a good mentor to young guys in college, just keep him the fuck away from the pros.

          • MB30SD

            whatever. I don’t know that fuck… he’s a tool.

…but I get it (for you), I just really dislike what he helped to do us. We’re still struggling to recover. Him and glitchy. cunts.

          • BuddhaJoe

            Fair enough, fuck that toolbag.

          • MB30SD

            better

          • CanadaBear

How is it Lovie’s fault the Bears stink now? His last season he was 10-6 and 4 years ago. I get why you don’t like him but this Bears fiasco is not on him.

        • Huge Bears Penis

naw you got to go with an offensive mind. My guess is Trestman.

Not til Ep IV it doesn’t!!

I’m dying to talk about this. It’s the best SW ever. For me. There’s more SW in this movie than all the other 7 put together. Seriously. I lost my shit in the last ten minutes of the movie.

        • BearDown100393

lol something evil always blows up. But yeah… want to see this one.

        • BillW

After the middle trilogy, I’ve only seen Ep 1 and wanted so bad to like it I convinced myself I did. Then saw it again and that was it.

But you guys have me excited about this. Do I need to see Ep2 and 3 to understand Rouge One?

          • Irish Sweetness

R1 ends ten minutes before Episode IV – A New Hope (1977) begins . It happens after Ep. III. So you really need to have seen Ep. IV, otherwise the last ten minutes won’t blow your mind. If you’re not familiar with what;s going on (getting the death star plans), then it will just be a very good war movie with a terrorist/freedom fighter thee.

The middle trilogy “prequels” happen before the original trilogy but were filmed 20 years later. R1 is like Ep. 3.5.

          • BillW

Saw Ep IV many times so I think I’m good.

And I did read a spoiler of sorts that it kind of explains how a bunch of small fighters were able to blow up the Death Star in IV.

Got it. and it was quite good. Not shocked that the Bears are in the top 10 on defense yards per play. VERY surprised they are also in the top 10 in Offense yards per play (though 30th in points).

So the general idea that they just need to keep up the development of what they have as they continue to build makes sense.

And the Polian rumor? Someday I hope the media self-labels their stories like Facebook is going to do. Maybe along the lines of

        fact;
        verified rumor;
        unverified rumor;
        disputed;
        pure bullshit

      • Irish Sweetness

Brings us back to the Cutty trade. I love Cutty … .was thrilled beyond possibility when we got him. But the jury is in. He’s batting .500 (admittedly awesome if you’re playing baseball) … we got hosed on the deal. Draft two tackles in the first round, what are we looking at? Two bookends and we would have looked different.

        Sorry Jay.

        • SC Dave

Yeah, makes one wonder, although that was long ago so if we did have two 1st round OL studs they’d be getting old now.

The beauty of the 80s line thing was that they were all young at the same time. So that line was top-notch for six years, although Covert did have some injury issues.

So I had to look up something, and here is the Bears rushing offense ranking over those years:

          1983 #1
          1984 #1
          1985 #1
          1986 #1
          1987 #13
          1988 #3
          1989 #2
          1990 #2

Things went into decline after that. I was wondering about 1987, and that was the transition year from Walter to Neal Anderson, and Matt Suhey started only two games (I imagine he was banged up that year).

To have a line like that again… *wistful sigh*

  • BillW

Jeff thinks O/U on attendance should be 21.5K. Maybe being sarcastic. I thought in the other thread 20K for no-shows. I suspect at least 40K will be there in 1Q. By the end of the game, depending on how it goes, it could be still 40K (Bears winning) or hovering around 10K (Bears losing).

Seriously, any fan going to that game deserves the absolute best the players and coaches can give them. If that’s not enough – OK. But really, it should be. A strong running game – win TOP – make Rodgers move more than he wants and knock him down several times.

Despite the cold, there is a strong part of me that wishes I was going. I’ve just gotten too old for that kind of weather. (Sucks typing that)

  • Big Mike

So, I was listening to Mel Kiper. Now Mel is a bit annoying, especially when he argues one guy over another with absolute certainty, but who definitely has his finger on the pulse of bigger trends from the draft. His take on this years’ draft is great for the Bears.

He believes the top of the draft is HEAVY with top defensive players. He rattled off 4 DBs who could go top 10. Jabrill Peppers was the headliner. They say he’s a great playmaker, but more of a strong safety, than a cover guy. Then he rattled off a few (I didn’t get the names) who he loved as CB/FS. What I liked about the group was they had started for multiple years, weren’t guys who came out early (one guy was a fifth year). So, there you go. He also commented that the top of each round in particular the 2nd would have great value, because there were just a bunch of 30+ guys he has rated as being solid to + value if they were drafted in the back third of the first round.

    • Irish Sweetness

I was thinking on, Mike. Why tag Alshon for 17M when you could sign him to a longer 10M/year deal? Or you think he wouldn’t sign that?

      • Big Mike

There doesn’t seem to be any information about what he’s looking for. But the last thing I read, was he sees himself as deserving of top 5 money (AJ Green, Dez Bryant, Demarius Thomas..etc. ), which for WRs is out of this world. I think you’d be looking at $25M guarantee, north of $50million total. Even a deal in the middle tier of the newer WR contracts (Unrestricted Free Agency in 2020 or 2021) pay $40 million with anywhere from $8 – $20 million guaranteed. The lower guarantees are for older players. Tavon Austin got $2m with 17 guaranteed. Doug Baldwin got 46 million with 12 guaranteed. So depending on where the Bears and his agent could get to the deal is expensive and $10 million a year is possible, but not a slam dunk. The other issue is, do the Bears want Alshon for 4 more years if he can’t stay on the field. If they think his injuries are “flukish” then you sign him. If they think he simply breaks easy, then you don’t. So it’s a guessing game. It kind of sucks tagging him, because if you want him back and he plays well, his price goes up.

        • willbest

Jeffery did that sell his future earnings things. So he pays somebody else 13% of his paycheck going forward for $7 million up front. He should care less about guarantees than most assuming he hasn’t spent it all.

          • Big Mike

Those deals are f’n terrilble. It’s like a payday loan for millionaires. Damn…

          • willbest

Well $7 million for 13% of his earnings means they don’t break even until he makes $53 million. I believe he signed that before 2014 season, and you know he wasn’t making anything in 14 and 15. From a TVM standpoint you are probably looking at $65 million to break even over loaning it to a government. Very few players get that level of guarantees so you are going to want to hedge against his injury, which probably means you aren’t seeing a good return on investing in Jeffery until he clears the $75 million mark (since more time earn means more delay in payment).

From Jeffery’s standpoint getting paid 2 years early from the market is worth around $750k, and he won’t see a negative hit to his income for 6 years. At which point that $1 million+ check he has to write out annually will start to weigh on him. Though at that point he probably only has a couple more years left anyway.

          • Big Mike

Man I read that wrong. I thought he was paying a 13 interest rate on the guaranteed portion of a contract or something. So in fairness they took a lot of the injury risk. I get it. A future’s contract. They are betting that no barring a wipe out injury he gets a decent 2nd contract.

This is a clever financial instrument for NFL players. Wonder if he’d be on the field more if he hadn’t hedged his bet.

          • SC Dave

            Wow… interesting shit.

      • willbest

Rumor has it they were offering him $12 million a year, and he was asking for $14 million. So you are $2 million a year below what Pace was trying to get him for. Pace now has 3 options

        A) Tag him and pay him 17.4 million next year. I guess that won’t really feel like it because he lost $3 million this year from his suspension so most of the increase they would be paying him his own money so to speak.

        B) Give him his 14 (maybe 15 mil) a year at this point

        C) spend our top 10 pick on a WR because otherwise we have dick all at WR next year.

        • Irish Sweetness

With C we’re back to development at WR – then again if Cutty’s gone, next season is no longer the Season of Destiny ….

          • willbest

Barkley and Shaw will bring it home.

          • Irish Sweetness

I hope so brother! I always hope. Every frickin year.

        • Big Mike

Can’t waste a 10 on WR. Draft crop is soft, loaded at CB and Safety.

Also his price might come down because of missing so many games. Balance of guarantee money and incentives might get it done.

I still think you tag him and keep negotiating. Do this is the most sincere, player friendly way possible.

          • willbest

A Deep CB/S class is actually a reason to wait to draft one until the 2nd round.

          • Big Mike

What he said was there were 3-4 top of the draft caliber guys. I don’t know if he said the rest of the draft class was deep.

          • MB30SD

Fuck that… Draft one in both

        • Sauron’s right eyeball

C is not an option. I’ll have to go medievil on someone if the Bears use their 1st pick for a WR again.

        • SC Dave

There are factors yet to play out – how well Barkley and Alshon work together being one. We’ll see over the next three weeks barring injury.

Perhaps it’s silly, but I’m hoping that what we’re seeing from Matt is no fluke, and we have found at least our transitional starter, and at best a guy we can win with for a decade. It would be nice to get a top-third of the league QB for “free” wrt draft/trades.

          So I’m on board with:

          1) Signing Alshon w/o breaking the bank. Don’t think we’ll need to, but I think a lot on this blog underestimate what he can get on the free market.

          2) Drafting the best DB in out there, whoever that is. The one thing I like about Peppers is that maybe we get a great punt returner too.

          3) Getting two new tackles – a replacement for Massie and either one to replace Leno or back-up both positions. Whether that is FA or draft I don’t care.

          • Irish Sweetness

The Minny and Kitties LTs will be FA.

    • BerwynBomber

Mel rocks. It became some silly badge of faux coolness over the years to hate on him but he digs deeper than any guy out there. He’ll have the goods on every guy in the final round or even the undrafted kids.

How often he hits or misses is another matter, but can’t say I look for that much when listening to draft experts. I want info. And he’s the best at providing that. Dude’s an encyclopedia.

      • Big Mike

He’s very thorough. Like I said, it’s when he get specific and starts grading drafts 5 seconds after the picks. But he’s been better more recently about not getting caught up in that and putting caveats like “from what we have seen from this player”, and how well an organization does getting “projected value” while “filling needs”. He was all over Ryan Pace for having about as good of a first draft that any GM has had. Floyd is living up to his top 10 status,, Whitehair is playing like a low to mid first round pick, Howard is exceeding expectations dramatically and is the steal of the draft. But he was also high on Kwiatkoski, and Bush.

        • SC Dave

I like Kwiatkoski. He may not start for us, but I think he is our #3 LB already, and may stick there for a while.

          • Big Mike

I forgot he was a rookie. I had it in my mind he was a bargain bin FA. Kid still has some upside and man does he bring it. He just needs to be in position more often. With Trevathan’s injury likely keeping him less than 100% until the Oct/November, Kwiatkoski has an opportunity.

I’d be surprised if he’s on an NFL roster next year. Guy’s been snakebitten. Amazing, because it’s not like he’s carrying so much weight on his frame that his lower legs aren’t strong enough to hold everything together — which is what you normally see when guys suffer repeat lower-leg and foot injuries (they’re just too big for their lower bodies to hold together).

He was worth the 7th round flyer. Too bad he never panned out. He could’ve been a decent #3.

A weaker female should never dominate you – she pushed him a little, but his response … wow. Instantaneous too. And if you have a shot at the NFL? Wow.

Is that fight-or-flight response? Drugs? He was high? Drunk?

He’ll have to play for the Raiders now.

          • MB30SD

Meh, just a thug. Shit, I wouldn’t mind playing for a SB this year

            watch it again

            He is walking away
            She shoves him
He actually just gets his face in hers
            She slaps him
            he hits her.

            Its clearly self defense

          • Irish Sweetness

            1. I don’t know if alcohol was involved, so there’s that.

            2. She does lay hands but it’s not a concerted attack, and he’s a RB? At least take a moment to work out the situation, or raise your hands / get ready to restrain her. But man, he went for the KO immediately.

          • willbest

Why are you such a raging misogynist? She threw down. Why are you placing extra duty on him to protect her from her own stupidity? If it was a 140 lb man that did what she did nobody would give a shit. Stop denying this bitch her agency. If you find yourself in a fight you did not start you are allowed reasonable force to end it. He didn’t kicker after she went to the ground and quite frankly knocking her out was ideal. If he restrained her now she is struggling and screaming and all of a sudden the dozen people in the diner have their attention trained on the event almost certainly completely misinterpreting what transpired and who the aggressor is. That increases the likelihood of escalating the violence and creates a more volatile and dangerous situation for mixon

          • CanadaBear

I’m of the belief, never say never. No way should that guy have punched her out. She looked like she was begging for it (hard to tell with no sound) but that doesn’t make it right. However, people have to take responsibility for their actions and if you get all fucked up and get in someone’s face late at night, this happens.

          • MB30SD

            Agree

          • willbest

Its never hit a Lady which is an important distinction women have been failing to make for a couple decades, and is resulting in more and more of these situations I feel.

Anyway based on the video evidence I have a hard time believing he is guilty of anything. 1) He was trying to leave; 2) It was not an excessive use of force to end a real attack; 3) He actually gave her a warning to step off after she battered him the first time, and it wasn’t until she hit him the second time that he did anything about it.

          • Irish Sweetness

            ?

Dude, he cold-cocked her. I mean he didn’t even think about that, she laid hands and responded .. four-fold?

          • willbest

            watch it again.
            he tried to leave
            she shoved
            he threatened/warned her
            she slapped
            he hit.

    • CanadaBear

Down goes Frazier! She can’t take a punch. She looked to be really hammered. Not that young man’s finest moment.

    • Irish Sweetness

That’s a decent hook right there. I wonder what she said.

Was just listening to The Chrome Plated Megaphone of Destiny, and thinking they just don’t make shit like that any more.

And maybe that’s good. But it’s infinitely better than autotune.

    • Huge Bears Penis

I am thinking they should not have made it back then either.

      • SC Dave

Probably not; I take it you listened?

          i tried.

There should be a sticker on albums where it’s used.

        • CanadaBear

That would be a lot of stickers.

Near as I can tell, younger people don’t seem to care. Once the audiences were OK with people lip synching in concert, everything was on the table. If you can’t sing live you shouldn’t be a singer.

“As “scout” for another team told me, “If the numbers we heard are true, I can’t believe Jeffery’s people didn’t make him sign.”” – Jeff

I disagree, it makes far more economic sense to play on a top 5 tag for 1 year than secure 2 years worth of guarantees, so unless the Bears were offering 3+ guarantees Jeffery made the right decision. Because teams are still going to offer him $25-35 million guaranteed and now he has the 11.5 million for 12 games played. Yes he assumed the risk of getting seriously injured, but if he had signed a $30 million guaranteed deal and was seriously injured in the first 2 years he wouldn’t see any money from the team option years anyway. So his downside was the difference between the tag and the guaranteed number which is considerably less than the $60-70 million top end deal that doesn’t get paid unless he stays healthy and performs at or above that level.

So sick and tired of the know it alls who say: “yeah Matt Barkley does this well and that well, BUT he doesn’t have the arm strength, and at best is a back up quarterback”. Well guess what, for the past 5 years the Bears had a quarterback who had the best arm strength in all of football (Jay Cutler) and what did it get us? Look, this kid does everything right and is good enough to take this team to the Superbowl if we can put a decent front line in front of him.
