First to welcome back da Weekend Show. Woot!

But cannot listen right now, unfortunately. Rant not suitable I’m sure.

    • SC Dave

I do like the intro for the Reverend.

  • GPLDAN

    Lived or Worked!

    Nice shout out to Biggsy.

  • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Autistic Bears (ButchDeadLift)

The new theme song sounds like a beer inspired bongo frat jingle from Animal House.

    I love it.

  • EnderWiggin

The late 70s Dolly Parton transition gave me flashbacks.

  • GPLDAN

Hard Knocks spoof by Taren Killam – he got Liv Schrieber to do the voiceover.

    http://www.vulture.com/2016/09/taran-killam-leaves-hard-knocks-spoof.html

    • MB30SD

      brutal

snl sucks down to the spoofs of other spoofs. man that show blows now.

      • GPLDAN

        worse than ghostbusters

        • MB30SD

          much worse.

Taking the kids to The Wild Life 3D this weekend. Looks meh… but it has the same kind of chameleon we have, so of course they wanted to see it.

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

Chameleon’s are awesome, I found one when I was a kid. It was moving so slow that I just knew it would still be there when I returned from the garage to fetch a box. I was so pissed when I returned and it had disappeared. lol

          • MB30SD

            camouflage

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

Yeah. I stared at the tree for an hour trying to find it. 🙁

          • Cormonster

Chameleon – one of the greatest funk songs ever by Herbie Hancock. Much much better than another song by a boy named George.

        • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Autistic Bears (ButchDeadLift)

oof. That’s become the modern “worse than WaterWorld”

          • AlbertInTucson

            Worse than “ISHTAR”.

  • Jokey

White has a hamstring and may not play sunday. wtf

    • GPLDAN

He’s learning all the best things from Jeffery

    • Jokey
    • BillW

Serious question – do steroids / PEDs help a player cut down on injuries? Not sure where I’m going with this, but I do wonder if anything artificial can reduce injuries.

      Second related question:
Why don’t coaches push for expanded rosters? Or maybe they do. I realize there aren’t 65*32 NFL quality players around, but thinking back to my 3 things I like/dislike, I wonder if a coaching staff could devise more flexibility in game plans and adjustments with a bit more roster flexibility.

      • willbest

Depends on the PED. Some reduce inflammation and prompt faster healing. Others increase alertness, others allow increased oxygen delivery to cells which improves stamina. Even the painkillers are performance enhancers though.

      • AlbertInTucson

I’m a firm believer in the theory that the supplements build muscles which then proceed to overload tendons and ligaments which are what they are and remain so.

    • AlbertInTucson

Ohhhhh (insert favorite, profane expletive here)!

  • BillW

I’m a Cubs fan and I am very excited to see them so strong this year and years to come. I’ve been disappointed many times, but a lot of those times were hopes dashed, not truly choking. Even 1969 in retrospect was more the Mets coming on strong.

I think it very likely the Cubs will win one or more WS with this whole regime and team. Very much in my mind like the Hawks lately and the Bulls of the 90s. And what the Bears should have been.

But when those teams (except the Bears) aren’t winning, I don’t watch. Fair weather fan? I guess so.

So why do I watch a team that has won two only championships in my 64 years? It’s the sport – I think it’s near perfect. Not without fault, but here are my top three reasons:

Only sport where all players have a role on each and every play
Combination of physical skill and mental skill
Strategy and In game coaching/adjustments can make an underdog win

But here are the three things I personally like least about it (all fixable, except my opinion is clearly in the minority on at least the first 2):

Rules favors offense way too much
QB position too important; the loss of no other player impacts winning to that extent
Replay actually makes the game more confusing (eg: what’s a catch?)

    Let’s Go Cubs!

But yes – I’m ready for some football!

    • Irish Sweetness

How about the automatic first downs:

      – Roughing the passer
      – Roughing the kicker
      – Defensive pass interference
      – Defensive holding

It’s 3rd and 25 … QB gets hit … give him his 15 yards, not an automatic first down, same for pass interference. Don’t move the ball 50 yards because a jersey got grabbed.

  • Sauron’s right eyeball

Beer and Brats all weekend……mmmmm….bring it on…..

Oh, and piss on the tribune.

  • GPLDAN

    Waffle/Mb –

The air cooled 911 thing really is out of control now.

    http://jalopnik.com/air-cooled-porsche-911s-are-over-man-1786347681

    • MB30SD

      Damn, 1.8M PS

    • PaceBot 2000

it’s out of fucking control. Also, I should have jumped on that 912 project auction that you showed me. You simply were not kidding that every dollar put in is 2 coming out.

  • AlbertInTucson

Tell us why his opponent isn’t just as big a “shitbag”?

    • SC Dave

Jeff lives in New York. They’ll vote for anything associated with the Democratic party.

      • willbest

If the civil war hadn’t ended state sovereignty upstate NY and downstate IL would have seceded from their respect city-states long ago.

        • MB30SD

You three are so cute… it’s like you guys against the rest of the free world. hee hee

Newsflash, they’re all shitbags. size doesn’t matter once you’ve achieved the critical mass they all have… like comparing the size of black holes. Who cares, once they’re reached that stage all they do is suck and destroy.

          • willbest

I don’t get you. She has a body count. It’s at least 4, and they were senseless. Trump doesn’t. Stein doesn’t. And Johnson apparently can’t even find a place to bomb on the map.

Further its one thing to put a person you suspect is only in it for them and their budies, but quite different when she provides documented proof that is all she cares about.

          • MB30SD

I’m just fucking with you at this point man. Tired of it to be honest. I don’t care who wins any more, just want it over. Nothing will change, regardless of how loudly you scream when she’s elected.

…and the machine will continue to crush on regardless of who’s propped up as the driver.

          • SC Dave

That’s why you need to vote Johnson.

          • MB30SD

you meant he dude who didn’t know what aleppo is?

I won’t vote for anyone maings. my vote doesn’t count anyway.

When we trash the current garbage-heap and move to 1 man 1 vote… I’m all in.

          • willbest

Neither did the NYT, that was hilarious.

            ed.

          • MB30SD

            sad is more like it.

          • willbest

Journalist these days. It wasn’t a college job. You used to work your way way up and learn shit about the real world. Now you graduate at 24 from J school and are responsible for “making the world a better place” which is the exact opposite of what they are supposed to be doing.

Lawyers too. There are 36 25 and 26 year olds that do the lion’s share of the legal work at the Supreme Court.

          • SC Dave

You say that first part like its a bad thing.

You second line is exactly why we are where we are, and simply perpetuates the problem.

Third line – then work for it.

          • MB30SD

nothing to work for… I live in Cali. That and the machine is set and nothing short of the zombie apocalypse is changing it. too much power and money up for grabs.

So until the ZA comes, I’m going to opt out.

          • willbest

Meh, I am in IL but I plan on driving up to Green Bay in my Bears swag and canvassing for Hillary.

          • MB30SD

have fun with the rapings (yours)

          • SC Dave

This. Sounds like will has a death wish, or wants to try out that CWP he just got.

          • willbest

No… I haven’t found time for the class yet. I really need to get on that.

          • EnderWiggin

Maybe things will get better if we all get together and chant “We want change!”

          • SC Dave

Didn’t they try that last time?

          • EnderWiggin

He fooled me eight years ago =(

          • SC Dave

Hopefully only the first time around.

          • willbest

You were young and naive and he had a cool car.

          • willbest

My meal ticket is convoluted regulations that people throw $XXX an hour at me because it hurts their head to do it. Dems create more of those than GOP does, though the GOP has little interest in making things better. Occasionally something I am working on angers me and I write nice little letters and go spend 10 minutes politely talking to my rep about why it might be better to modify it so that its not so horrible. Not holding my breath that something gets done about it though.

          • Irish Sweetness

Don’t vote … it just encourages them.

          • AlbertInTucson

Even if you don’t buy the “body count”, she is SO obviously corrupt.

Does anybody actually believe she WASN’T influence peddling to so many Clinton Foundation donors?

          • Sactowns#1

Shhhh… they still believe all the fairy tales uncle Ronnie the movie star told them.

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

            I…see…you…

        • SC Dave

Some interesting stuff. But for me, Lin Zexu sums it up pretty well.

    • DaBearsBlog

Or I’m from NJ and saw first hand what the shitbag is. Accusing me of being a Hillary fan is comical but that’s all anyone who supports can do. Their candidate is a hollow, vapid, con man who literally knows and believes nothing.

      • MB30SD

        Oh Snap!!

shit just got real Al. You’re up!

        • AlbertInTucson

We probably should do away 2nd terms for Presidents

They are, historically, a disaster more often than not.

A single, 6 year term is probably a better concept.

For sure, term limits for all public office.

Right wing Sheriff, Joe Arpaio in Phoenix has held the job there for 30 years.

His counterpart, and political opposite, down here in Tucson just retired after 30 years.

Not a good idea in either case.

A concept J.Edgar Hoover demonstrated was a BAD idea.

Also, 10 years on the Supreme Court is plenty, thank you.

Heck, even a POPE finally thought retiring was a good idea!

          • willbest

On the flip side is that if you do that, you put more power in the hands of the bureaucrats, which affirmatively don’t have your best interest at heart.

          • AlbertInTucson

But these Congressmen/women and, especially Senators, create there own fiefdoms.

I don’t know why anyone would give up being a Senator, where you can graze at the public trough for as long as you like, to be President where you are done in either 4 or 8 years and at the mercy of Congress.

You’re right about the bureaucrats, though. We have a County manager, a non-elected position, who’s held the job forever and who was, until they gave the guy in L.A. County a raise, the highest paid county manager in the country. That’s Pima County, Arizona. He makes more than his Cook County, Illinois counterpart.

I know, I know. The Cook County guy is PAID less because he can STEAL more.

          • Irish Sweetness

They’re all crooked bastards, each and every one.

      • willbest

Here is my take on that. Every 4 years we flip a coin. You can either

        1) be pissed off its going to land heads or tails (A pox on bother their houses)
        2) indifferent as to the result, or
        3) display some preference for or against heads or tails

it is the height of insanity to pretend that its somehow going to land on the edge. If all you ever publicly do is hate on heads, then you are for tails.

        • SC Dave

Gary Johnson is attempting to at least get in the debates to offer the hope of something besides the utter trash that has been presented to us for the past 20 (at least) years. If asked, say you support him.

Let him debate. You never know, there might actually be some substance in the debate that way. Though I’m not sure how the viewership would respond.

          • willbest

I voted for Bernie in the primaries because well, in crook county the DNC primary is the election. So I am all about more options. But nobody ever asks me anything.

          • SC Dave

Fair enough. Rand Paul was my guy here in SC. Pretty similar in that RNC winner is the presidential winner here.

      • Sauron’s right eyeball

When Americans go after each other over these douche-bags, they have already won.

        • willbest

Why you change your avatar? I liked the old one.

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

I was actually thinking about changing it back. Just messing around with idea’s.

          • willbest

            Ideas are dangerous!

        • SC Dave

          Truth; well stated.

      • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Autistic Bears (ButchDeadLift)

        Deux ex machina !

        • AlbertInTucson

In her case “Douche Ex Machina”!

          • MB30SD

            knew that was coming

          • AlbertInTucson

If it’s a fastball on 3 and 0, I HAVE to swing at it.

          • MB30SD

            100%

I would expect nothing less from you sir.

      • AlbertInTucson

And SHE is a corrupt, self-serving, con woman who believes her own lies and expect everyone else should, too.

And you didn’t answer the question.

        • Sauron’s right eyeball

She’s been in the eye of the storm for years….

        • AlbertInTucson

          And…the silence is deafening.

      • SC Dave

The obvious thing to assume is that since you complain of only one, you tacitly approve the other. It’s how it works, Jeff, but of course you already know that.

And if you chose to eschew Twitter once in a while to read your own blog, you would not accuse me of being a Trump supporter.

But mea culpa on the state. It does seem that NJ seesaws back and forth.

  • AlbertInTucson

Blogfather, you really need the classic INSTRUMENTAL version of “Bear Down Chicago Bears” underneath your game prediction, as opposed to the vocal version that you used. Nice back-timing on the stinger, though

  • AlbertInTucson

I guess Matt Lauer must have done a pretty good job last night because he’s taking heat from BOTH camps today.

    • GPLDAN

      He is a tool

      • willbest

Isn’t that what you want in a moderator?

      • AlbertInTucson

        I won;’t argue that.

    • Sauron’s right eyeball

What did he do last night, fill us in Al?

      • willbest

There was a forum. both Trump and Clinton got up and took questions from the audience for 30 minutes, he was the moderator.

        • Sauron’s right eyeball

Aah..no wonder I had no idea what he was referencing.

    • willbest

I was thinking who my ideal slate for moderators would be something like

      Jay Leno
      Mike Rowe
      Bill Belichick
      Christina Hendrickson

though being a purist. I prefer there just being a guy with a stop watch that says. “Discuss as President how you plan to address immigration” and then its 5 min – 7 min – 3 min – 2 min, and they swap who goes first for each question.

      • AlbertInTucson

        Good question.

        Succinct and to the point.

So many of these “moderators” ask questions that take 30 seconds to a minute to verbalize.

That’s not a question, folks, that’s an agenda.

        • willbest

I was hoping you would pick up on Christina Hendrickson being there solely to have big bosom present during the last debate to arouse some interest.

          • AlbertInTucson

            “Arouse some interest.”

I see what you did there.

        • SC Dave

So Donald, when did you stop beating your wife?

          • AlbertInTucson

:Hilary, when’s the last time you did Bill?

          • Doc Nitty

            Hillary, what’s your favorite cigar?

          • Cormonster

The brand doesn’t matter, as long as it’s dipped in Monica first.

          • Irish Sweetness

“Is there any part of you that is not a c*nt?”

      • BearDown100393

James Lipton would make an excellent moderator.

      • Irish Sweetness

One moderator, Bill Hicks – risen for the night – and he gets to rebut everything they say.

  • willbest

So my wife poured a glass of wine instead of water (she isn’t an alcoholic I swear!) and handed it to me. And I have a strict rule about mixing alcohol, so I am on wine for tonight’s hors d’oeuvres. A bit of a bummer because I was eying the Glenlivet earlier today. I suppose its just as well as I have some early morning work. But for the Bears game I will be busting out the aberlour a bunadh.

    • SC Dave

Nice, but gotta say it looks like lawyer stuff at that price tag.

      (Just teasin’)

      • willbest

I spend less on my scotch than most female attorneys in my line of work spend on their dry cleaning. I keep telling them there has to be a better way.

        • SC Dave

          I don’t doubt that for a second.

    • Irish Sweetness

Eight years sober this week. Ain’t got no steenking liddle badge neither.

(two slow arhythmic claps barely audible from the back of the DBB bar … someone coughs)

      • CanadaBear

I’ll always clap for that! Congrats my friend.

  • SC Dave

Hmmm… ran across an article on the Bears, and it does not seem too retarded. Although hardly sage.

Just check my FF lineup on Yahoo. DeAndre Hopkins is a 5-Star (out of 5) starter this week. Granted, he’ll likely be that many weeks.

    “Matchup Rating
    ***** (9/11 Chi)
DeAndre Hopkins and the Texans enter the regular season opener preparing to host the Chicago Bears, who boast an injury-marred secondary and ranked 29th in passing touchdowns allowed in 2015.”

    • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Autistic Bears (ButchDeadLift)

      He’s $$$

My top tier guys I don’t worry about.

This year, they’re Hopkins and Zeke.

And when Josh Flash Gordon returns, watch out!

  • Huge Bears Penis

uh-oh a Bronco kneeling during the anthem!

    • GPLDAN

Elway will cut him at halftime

      • Huge Bears Penis

it was Brandon Marshall. so my guess is he will stay on the team.

        • GPLDAN

          But of course it was

  • willbest

    And we are off

  • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Autistic Bears (ButchDeadLift)

Panther’s D is ready for that stretch play. Just sitting on the edges

    • willbest

      I need more runs

      • GPLDAN

They want to prove they will throw often

  • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Autistic Bears (ButchDeadLift)

Till think CJ Anderson is a JAG.

Well, maybe not quite, one slight notch above JAG.

    Glad we didn’t sign him.

    • GPLDAN

      Why?

      • willbest

Not for 6 mil a year

      • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Autistic Bears (ButchDeadLift)

Anderson always wears down, big time.

And he doesn’t posses big play ability.

I’d much rather throw a dart at guys like Howard till we hit.

If we wanted slow and steady, should’ve kept Forte.

        • Irish Sweetness

Howard will be great for us. He is great. He’s 230+lbs. What’s not to like?

    • willbest

The rook just handed my jag more carries going forward

    • Irish Sweetness

I sat him everywhere this week.

  • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Autistic Bears (ButchDeadLift)

So much for getting Booker off the wire…

  • SC Dave

    LUKE!!

  • Huge Bears Penis

that has to suck. 1st official carry in the league and fumble.

He still looks very poised. He knows that playbook.
        Looks almost Shaw-ish

  • BearDown100393

    Turn Collinsworth’s mic off please.

  • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Autistic Bears (ButchDeadLift)

wow. supposed to hold screen a little longer than that.

  • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Autistic Bears (ButchDeadLift)

    Oh , shut up Cam.
Maybe jump on a fumble b4 u whine for a call.

  • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Autistic Bears (ButchDeadLift)

    whooo. HIT.

  • BearDown100393

Brandon Marshall must mean Douchebag from some other planet.

    • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Autistic Bears (ButchDeadLift)

I bet at least one player on each team will do the Kap.

      • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Autistic Bears (ButchDeadLift)

        except Panthers lol

      • BearDown100393

And have zero clue as to why.

      • SC Dave

        Hopefully none on the Bears.

Always follow a fullback with lots of consonants in his name.

    • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Autistic Bears (ButchDeadLift)

Always hand it off to a FB with lots of consonants in his name

      • SC Dave

That call completely fooled the Panthers d. I think the whole team thought jaconovich was in to be lead blocker

        • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Autistic Bears (ButchDeadLift)

yeah, the defenders are conditioned not to tackle white running backs lol

Carolina’s run D looked horrific on that last series, tons of gaping holes and missed tackles.

Chalk it up to not being able to hit/tackle in practice?

      • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Autistic Bears (ButchDeadLift)

I think so. I think Ds probably gas out a little faster early on cuz they don’t practice like B4 + the mile high air

        • SC Dave

Forgot about that. And they have been out there A LOT

      • SC Dave

Maybe. Or maybe the Denver line is OK? Dunno…

      • willbest

We yell, the stadium is just designed to dampen sound, and there is only room for 12 of us.

Bears fans get loud on D, problem is they don’t quiet down on O.

    • Huge Bears Penis

  • BearDown100393

Brandon Marshall takes a knee again.

    • BearDown100393

      Buh Bye

  • Shady

Interesting play. Sideline catch on 3rd and 6, tip toes were in bounds for a while, then the heel may have come down on the sideline. Carolina hurries to get the next snap off before Denver has a chance to challenge.

That’s one thing (out of many) I’d really like to see the Bears work on, not only getting the next play in quickly, but maybe have a specific hurry up call after a close play to avoid giving the opponent a chance to throw the challenge flag.

    • BearDown100393

#BirdCage better get those play calls to Jay quickly.

      • willbest

      • BearDown100393

        That is an indictment.

        • BerwynBomber

Somewhat. Martz has pretty damn good pedigree as an OC. It was being in total charge where he got himself in trouble.

          • BearDown100393

MANY here nodding in agreement. That rattling sound was ME nodding.

Somebody remind me, what did the Bears end up turning Olsen into? I mean BESIDES someone else’s ProBowl tight end.

    • AlbertInTucson

Never mind. I looked it up. It was #3 which led to gettng BMarsh1 from Miami.

Still, Angelo admits listening to Martz and dealing Olsen was dumb.

      • SC Dave

        Sorta?

        • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Autistic Bears (ButchDeadLift)

The interceptor looked like he gave himself up. At full speed, I could see the penalty.

Too bad they fucked Cam out of this game. And in the end, the kicker could have won it.

Although icing the kicker should be considered unsportsmanlike conduct.

    • willbest

Were they fucking him out of the game on the first intentional grounding they didn’t call?

I agree with the icing bit.

    • Irish Sweetness

Gano’s terrible, he kicked like 16 out of 28 FGs. He’s gone.

  • BerwynBomber

Siemian looks pretty good for a 7th round pick. A few mistakes but CAR is still the real deal as a D. Young secondary though.

DEN was lucky that hands to the face didn’t cost them the game. Horrible penalty when it is fourth and forever.

    • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Autistic Bears (ButchDeadLift)

      4rth and 21!

      He would’ve been the goat.

And I can’t believe they didn’t cover the sidelines at the end.

Even I knew they were going there.

56 yd is a lot harder than 50.

      • BerwynBomber

“And I can’t believe they didn’t cover the sidelines at the end.”

I don’t get that either. Why wouldn’t a D sell out to the sidelines, even go for a pick. There was no way CAR was throwing the ball in the middle of the field.

        • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Autistic Bears (ButchDeadLift)

Exactly. Gotta know the coach and QB.

Chico and Cam aren’t gonna go for the kill shot there.

If it was Pete or Bill with their QBs, maybe a lil diff, but if I’m Wade I say jump the sideline routes. Sell out.

    • SC Dave

That was the least offensive of the non calls v Cam. Racist bastards… Brady, Brees, Rodgers would all have ever hadone at least 3 pf calls that came didn’t get.

      Cunts

      • willbest

Cutler doesn’t get those. McCown. Dude had to rip Pickles helmet off to get called on a personal foul.

        • SC Dave

I think I fulminated on that somewhere else in this thread; (edit) i.e. that it looked like Cutler in there taking personal fouls with no flags.

      • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Autistic Bears (ButchDeadLift)

Luck gets beat up a lot too though.
I think sometimes refs let defenders hit bigger “running QBs” more.

        Maybe psychological.

        • BerwynBomber

Luck runs like Cam. They both lower their shoulders at times. It invites hits.

          • SC Dave

That does NOT mean that helmet-to-helmet shots that they take in the pocket should not be called per the rules.

          • willbest

They should, but if you don’t have the angle you going to call everything that might be HtH?

          • SC Dave

            They do for Brady

          • MB30SD

            In the pocket 100%

        • MB30SD

Why wouldn’t you?!?! He’s a fucking running back at that point!!!!

You want to be treated like a qb, don’t fucking run every every other fucking play. Can’t have it both ways!

Fucking decapitate the motherfucker if he thinks he’s a rb!

        • Irish Sweetness

Detroit will turn Luck upside down on Sunday.

      • BerwynBomber

Meh. I don’t buy much of the star power call conspiracies in the NFL. It’s sort of like griping about national announcers hating the Bears.

Bottom line, Cam’s a much more physical player than Rodgers or Brees, hence he’s bound to take bigger shots. Brady’s a bit more physical (than Rodgers or Brees) but he rarely runs. Newton often plays QB like an RB. He’s bound to take some big hits. Hell, the dude lowers his shoulder on some of his runs. Impressive but you can’t turn around and gripe if someone lays it on him.

          • BerwynBomber

Yeah, but that looked like face mask live action. At least when I saw it. Only replay revealed otherwise, but no replay on calls like that.

          • BerwynBomber

And Suh intentionally stepped on Rodgers’ calf in a post-season game and nothing was called. So what’s your point? Suh was dirty and got away with shit?

Btw, I believe he was fined for both the Cutler hit and the stomp on Rodgers. Weirdly enough, I kinda miss having the guy in our division. Helluva player even if dirty.

        • SC Dave

          Bull fucking shit.

          • MB30SD

            You. Are. Fucking. Killing. Me.

        • SC Dave

Goddamn it bull fucking shit. Because a QB can run, defenders should be given.a pass when they commit personal fouls when said QB is
          standing in the pocket throwing?

          • BerwynBomber

They called head-to-head late. Did I miss something? (Btw, I missed the first half.)

        • Irish Sweetness

He’s entitled to any flag Brady or Turtle head got. 260lbs or not.

  • SC Dave

The one-sided nature of that officiating was pathetic. Cam was hit helmet to helmet three times, and hand to helmet at least once, and the only care was offset by some insanity when he was three yards outside the tackle

    • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Autistic Bears (ButchDeadLift)

Ball still has to reach the LOS even if he’s out of the tackle box

      • BerwynBomber

And it was six or seven yards short. Legit call.

      • SC Dave

Even when a personal foul is being committed against him as he tries to throw? If so, they need to fix that shit.

    • willbest

One time he was a runner, one time his own dumb ass wiped out the penalty. And yeah he should have gotten the last one, but it was barely a tap, and quite frankly if you want them to call the defender on that one, then the QB needs to be deemed down the second a player gets his hands around the QB instead of when his ass hits the ground.

      • SC Dave

The rule is the fucking rule. Call it, or change it. Don’t call it for Brady and not Newton.

        • MB30SD

Bullshit. Dude takes off running every other play .dude’s 250 and runs a 4.5.

At that point he’s a fucking massive rb… keeeel him!!!

        Exactly

          • SC Dave

So this. Hochuli was/is such an asshole.

    • MB30SD

This is painful Dave. He’s a runner. No special treatment. I didn’t think one of those was cheap or should have been called.

  • BerwynBomber

Frankly, Siemian looked better against CAR than Peyton did.

    (Couldn’t resist.)

    • SC Dave

He certainly did. Another difference was that Carolina had Benjamin, who sat out last season.

      • BerwynBomber

Good point. Benjamin is pretty beastly. Reminds me a bit of Hopkins. He’s not quite that good of course but he may be a tad more physical.

        • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Autistic Bears (ButchDeadLift)

Benji actually reminds me more of Alshon.

Hopkins is a very polished route runner, as unfortunately we’re about to find out.

        • Irish Sweetness

He was freely available in 5th and 5th rounds n FF. He’ll kill this year.

  • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Autistic Bears (ButchDeadLift)

Hey, I thought PS didn’t matter!

Trevor looked better than Sanchize in the PS, and he looked better than Sanchize tonight.

So much so, that they cut Sanchize.

    #PSlivesMatter

    • BerwynBomber

Yeah, I’ll defend Sanchize as a back-up, even as a potential bridge QB, but DEN obviously made the right call.

And we can hate on Elway all we want but hard to argue with that dude’s results as GM thus far.

      • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Autistic Bears (ButchDeadLift)

Kubiak made his bones originally as a QB coach. And Elway knows a little about QB play.

The fact that they let Osweiler walk, then cut Sanchize, then went with a 7th rd QB I think says a lot about what they thought of both.

        • BerwynBomber

Or what they thought of Siemian. Getting rid of Sanchize these days doesn’t take much balls. Going with Siemian does.

Keep in mind too, that Lynch might develop. DEN could be set at QB for years to come. But emphasis on “could”.

        • Irish Sweetness

Dude, Kubiak WAS the Denver QB.

  • AlbertInTucson

I don’t care how big & strong he is, Carolina is playing with live ordinance if that keep putting Newton in harm’s way like they did tonight.

    • BerwynBomber

But is it CAR or Newton? Newton runs like an RB. Seems to be natural for him.

      • AlbertInTucson

Tonight should give him pause to reflect on that choice.

        • BerwynBomber

But pointing to what madcourt suggested, I wonder how effective Newton would be as QB if he was no longer a physical runner.

        • SC Dave

Why? It was passing where he took the cheap shots.

And if he gets hammered running it would be, as you say, his fault.

          • BerwynBomber

Legit beef then. I came to the game late and only saw the last head2head which was called but offset by the grounding.

But I still don’t buy the star power conspiracy stuff. Racism? Who knows? But Cam’s as big as star as anybody in the game (if you believe stars do get calls).

          • SC Dave

He’s definitely NOT as “big a star as anybody”, though he is more than most, I suppose.

The gounding thing was called because the ball ended up short of the line of scrimmage. Somehow, taking a personal foul while attempting to throw the ball away well outside the tackle line and having it offset because said personal foul prevents you from throwing the ball far enough doesn’t seem right.

          • Irish Sweetness

In Fantasy Football the dude is all on his own at the top.

          • willbest

There were 3 hits on Cam’s head, one of which he was a runner past the LoS. 1 was called and offset. The first one was H to H but it wasn’t cheap. He as fighting with a guy who had him by the legs and was going to the ground and the defender glanced his head coming

          • SC Dave

Head to head is head to head. It’s the rule… you know, like the rule of law.

          • willbest

I don’t know why you are shocked the refs missed a call. They miss a lot of them. Like when Cam was still between the tackles and chucked to the middle of nowhere

          • MB30SD

Jeez Dave. The shot that took him out wss was the opposite of cheap. He got crushed fair and square maings.

    • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Autistic Bears (ButchDeadLift)

Luck has already stated that he owes it to the team to stay healthy and slide a bit more.

Guess Cam didn’t get that memo.

      • AlbertInTucson

The Colt O Line is going to shorten Luck’s career.

      • SC Dave

All of the non-called PFs were in the pocket, or near to it on passing plays. The running plays are NOT where he gets fucked up.

    • madscout12

He’s not good at much else. He’ll never be a pocket passer. Their whole offense is built around that hydra head running attack.

      • SC Dave

Watch a Panthers game or two and see if you can find a clue.

        • madscout12

I just did. Dude has an arm, but he hovers around 60% pass completed. That’s decent, but not great. And that’s with him being as big as he is and being a running threat. If he had to drop back all game, with no called runs, he wouldn’t be as good. Nothing wrong with that, he still gets the job done.

Btw, anyone catch that play in the 4th where it looked like Anderson had a huge hole off tackle and then Kuechly came flashing across in lateral pursuit, flanked him and kept him to a three yard gain? That was pretty damn stellar. Reminded me of Lach.

    • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Autistic Bears (ButchDeadLift)

Yeah, Luke like Lach is just omnipresent.

Like Lach, he has superb intelligence, instincts and athleticism.

I know off the field Lach is a bit of a meathead, but on the field he would always put the Ds in the right position.

The cat and mouse between him and Vadgers was awesome.

      • SC Dave

No shit. Even Vadgers had to say something nice about that.

    • SC Dave

Kuechly is every bit as good, and likely better, than Lach. And I loved BU. Luke is insanely good, I would call him the best defender in the NFL, except there is JJ Watt.

But Luke SHOULD have been the ==> Bears BUTKUS -> Singletary -> Urlacher -> Kuechly

      • Jokey

But then the Packers would have ruined our master plan be picking Shea McClellin

I’m going to bring this up to the top here since there was a hearty discussion about it below a few times.

When a 6’5″ 250 lb QB takes off running more than just a handful of times… he is, and should be, considered a running back at ANY POINT before he does his cute little QB slide… and as a defender, you are and should be allowed to take his fucking head off.

If I was a defender in the NFL, that’s exactly what I would try to do every time. If he’s in the pocket, of course…. the second he scrambles and isn’t in a slide he should be treated EXACTLY as a running back is, period.

    • Sauron’s right eyeball

I see it the same way.

      • MB30SD

I see… what you did there

    • PaceBot 2000

The fact that the media is talking about it today makes me sad as a fan of real football. He was hit many times while in the actual fucking motion of throwing, other times as he was well outside the pocket.
The fact that others have now even brought up race makes me fucking angry. What the fuck has happened to our country?
The basic argument that I’m hearing is that Cam doesn’t get certain calls because he is black.
Yes…….that is actually what people are saying. I will let that sink in a bit in the context of the National Football League so you can realize how fucking crazy this country has become.

      • CanadaBear

It has nothing to do with race and everything to do with who the NFL chooses to be the Golden Boys. Cam didn’t make the cut. Neither has any Bears QB in history.

        • PaceBot 2000

lol, tell that to the CamsLifeMatters crowd.

          • CanadaBear

I get it and I’m not saying race isn’t an issue in this case but there are way too many white QB’s that get the same treatment from the refs (see Cutler, Jay).

      • MB30SD

yeah man. real football is dead. fucking sad.

(and you are personally killing it dave. YOU!)

        hahaha

        • SC Dave

See above. But what REALLY is ruining the game is inconsistent enforcement of (sometimes misguided) rules.

          • MB30SD

def part of it, but changing the rules is changing the game. sometimes for the better, for sure… but when it IS the game that you’re changing, well then, it is what it is.

        • PaceBot 2000

the new rule of “if the hit is loud and happened too fast for you to see what really happened just throw the flag” is a tough one to swallow.

          • MB30SD

it lies at the core of what I hate about the ‘new’ football… because what they are flagging IS football at it’s core. that IS the old football… and when it’s totally extinct and there is no more hitting that is the foundation of the game, I will 100% just walk away from the game forever.

          • willbest

Well at the rate cultural decline is going, we will have gladiator style games before too long.

First, for those of you who read my comments, you know I’m a die hard, reasonably optimistic Bears fan, who has a pretty good knowledge of the game. As we move into the season, I looked back at the off season. I didn’t go through each move, that’s been done. But I was trying to get a general sense of how I felt about the entire off season.

What I came up with is the Bears got better. But they sure did do a few odd things. (Slauson, Forte, Gould, Royal as the punt returner and so on). Trying to be objective, It seems like the Pace is building a foundation and can’t be bothered with aesthetics. He’ll sacrifice short term value, if he can get a multiple of that value down the line.

My bottom line, is he probably sacrificed a win, maybe two this year to pick up 4 or 5 wins down the line.

This Bears team is going to make young mistakes. But I have a feeling they will make us love them with their effort and hustle. Arrow is pointed up. A few good ball bounces and a bit of luck on the injury front and this is a playoff team that nobody wants in the first round. Or.. they could be the best 6-10 team ever with a bunch of tough luck losses. What I’m confident in, is they will get even better again next off season.

I like what Pace is doing. Not everything will work out. But he’s rebuilding the Bears.

    • Jokey

I think most would agree with your summary. I do. A- grades mostly on our draft, approval on Sitton, some head scratching on Slauson. Can’t do anything about Grasu and injuries, although I have a feeling some of those could have been prevented. Should a coach call something an oww-ie in the preseason? Why fight through an injury that could worsen? It’s not like you’re jeopardizing a win or anything. Especially with rooks (Floyd) who are not in NFL shape.

    • willbest

I doubt I will be able to look back on the season and go “If we had Gould or Forte or Mariani”. I will probably be able to say “ah man if we had Slauson at Center”.

I don’t ever predict what is going to happen in the next off-season though. We could easily be headed into 2017 needing a legit WR #1, TE, a whole new set of DBs, Pass rushers, both tackles, both tackles, a punter, kicker, and return man.

      • MB30SD

looks like you’ve got a case a tha mundees

        • willbest

Just pointing out the fallacy of the multi-year rebuilds and why I think you need to compete every year, because too much changes year to year in the NFL to chart out a 5-year plan.

          • MB30SD

i know, I just wanted to type that really badly.

          • Big Mike

That’s simply not true. See the last three years of Angelo’s tenure where he chased the playoffs with an aging roster, that crapped out on him. You always have to have your eye on the long term competitiveness of your team. Maybe one caveat, is when you are right at the tipping point and you go all in to get the SB.

          • MB30SD

            like the falcons with white

      • Big Mike

Well, Gould was oddly handled. Forte was controversial and a “win now” front office/coaching staff would’ve probably kept him. Mariani, is a meh to me. Slauson is the puzzler.. I’m confident that we’ll continue to get better under POX. My question is can they get us over the hump into the SB and becoming a SB winner.

Think about all the needs we had and how many have been filled in the last two years. We’ve turned over and upgraded the roster in quite a few spots. Guys that were starters are, now depth, PS or Free Agents. That’s a good sign in my book.

Agree with Jeff, Fuller is on the spot for the Bears. He needs to start the season strong. White will be given 4-5 games to get his footing, and will have the season to find his NFL groove. It’s only a matter of time before a stroller mom gets caught in a crossfire or a stray bullet takes out a guy in his living room who’s just watching Da Bears. I’m starting to consider our options. The violence is spreading and getting a little too close to home.

I still own property in that neighborhood because we bought it in 2005. I was debating selling it back in March/April but the best guess indicated I was still going to take a 20-30k bath. Apparently I should have just eaten that, because I what you are describing isn’t going to help.

Rahm knows the score. Ravenswood is one of the areas all the wealthy tax paying whites move to when they have kids and decide to stay in the city. Its competition is Oak Park, Glenview, the North shore. He can’t have murders there, or he will lose the tax base.

Sort of like a nihilist arguing about morality?

What keeps people/government in check is the reciprocity of it all. Its why nobody has dropped an atomic bomb on a population center since a 2nd country figured out how to do. And hiding your troops amongst population centers went out of fashion when opposing armies slaughtered population centers that were doing it.

The Geneva convention isn’t a statement of morality so much as it is a list of shit that gets out of hand quickly when tried.

DaBearsBlog @dabearsblog “You’re crazy if you don’t believe there are members of Chicago media hoping Bears are awful Sun to validate a month of panicked “reporting”.

This is an enjoyable site but this sort of fanboy/conspiracy nonsense comes off as childish.

Most, if not, all Chicago sports media are concerned about viewers, listeners, readers, etc. And nothing drives up the numbers more during Bears season than the Bears winning. Nothing. And that’s literally the bottom line.

    • GPLDAN

Spiegel and Goff were like “Bears season’s gonna suuuuuuck”
Dan Bernstein HATES the Bears, and has come to HATE football and the NFL.

Haugh hates the Bears. I don’t know how you can say he doesn’t hate the Bears.
      Doomer hates himself and life.

Biggsy likes the beat. But all these guys have been through some McCaskey shit. A lot of them look at this team in a VERY jaded way. That woman who covered the Bears for 18 years at the Trib quit this year to do other reporting. She was on the Score and basically said covering the Bears is a drag.

I don’t think the media in this town think much of the org. I don’t think many citizens do either. There are still fans, still football fans, but this is not a Bears city anymore and may never be again. This town belongs to the Cubs and Sox now.

      • MB30SD

That’s what 20 years+ of sucking ass will do to you (yes, there were a couple/few bright spots). I can assure you of one thing my man, we win a SB and string together a few back to back deep playoff years and there will be more bandwagon circling than the old west. No one wants to drag through years of shitty losses and even shittier coaches.

and the gangs, don’t forget the gangs.

        • SC Dave

Fuck that… string together a few CHAMPIONSHIPS my man! Starting next year.

11-5, loss in NFC title game this year.

      • BerwynBomber

But predicting they are going to suck is completely different than actively rooting against them. Unless, the season is over and one of them just wants a high draft pick.

I just don’t buy some of the Chicago media hate the Bears simply because they are not big enough cheerleaders. It’s insane.

        • GPLDAN

A lot of guys wearing colors today in Berwyn today? Honest question.

Downtown, a homeless lady sitting on a corner has a 4th phase t-shirt on. That would be it. A couple 20-something hotties have Cub jerseys on. Building cleaning crew have Sox hats. No Bears swag on the train today.

Might be different in certain burbs, esp. southside burbs. Here, nada.

    • Huge Bears Penis

You are right nothing drives up readership more than winning. However in the absence of ‘wins’ it’s easy to pile on and go the doom and gloom route. Once you go to the Dark Side it is hard to come back, not impossible but it takes time. Even long time posters on here have a hard time turning around and getting optimistic for the next year. And that sir is the Chicago Media.

      • BerwynBomber

But pessimism is not the same thing as dislike or hatred.

        • Huge Bears Penis

that is true but we are talking about reporters. Their job is to report, and they have a choice to put a negative or positive spin on their articles. Unfortunately, the Chicago media seems to always to put a negative spin against the organization. Just look at the ‘They didn’t say Thank you’ article after Gould was released. There was no reason for that article. That constant negativity in their reporting can very easily be construed as dislike or hatred.

Pessimism is a preconceived negative interpreting of events.

Now, granted, if 9/10 times it’s piss and not rain on your head, then it’s easy to assume it’ll be piss the next time.

HOWEVER, that’s what I love about sports. It’s a new season! Everyone sorta starts from zero. ANYTHING is possible. Who predicted the Panthers to go nearly undefeated and teabag their way to the SB last season? Or the Bears in 85? Or the Rams when 00?

But some just CAN’T allow themselves to believe. They prefer being “rational” or a “realist”. What’s the fun in that?!

Save that pragmatic shit for your taxes and dentist appointments.

This is SPORTS. Supposed to be fun.

Suspension of disbelief and all that.

But some are just too jaded, lack the imagination or are simply incapable.

          Feel sorry for those folk.

          Live a little. Believe.

What’s the worse that can happen? They lose? Whoppdi fucking doo.

          • CanadaBear

Not to put too fine of a point on it but a lot of people saw the ’85 Bears coming. I didn’t know if they would go all the way but I was positive they were going to be one of the faves to make the SB.

As far as being pessimistic, that’s great if you want to be Pollyanna all day every day (I’m accused of that a lot) but when the org has given you no reason to get excited about the team is it really pessimistic? And as you know, once they give me a reason to be optimistic I’ll probably go too far the other way.

Don’t bother doing a laundry list of upgrades from last year. I can counter with almost an equal amount of downgrades. That’s why I’m at 8-8.

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Autistic Bears (ButchDeadLift)

          • CanadaBear

I get it. I’m just not all in on POX (mostly the Fox part of it). After watching Fox closely over his time with the Bears, I have to amend how I always described him (a smarter version of Lovie) to a smarter version of Lovie on game day.

Do you get the feeling Fox’s lamp has been turned down a bit over the last few years? He doesn’t seem as feisty. That’s the only thing I can come up with why the Beloved came out so flat in 3-4 games last year.

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Autistic Bears (ButchDeadLift)

I don’t call him Albino Lovie for nothing.

But hey, we should’ve won the SB with regular Lovie!

If it wasn’t for the injuries and him deciding to run CedDrunk.

If that were Fox, maybe we have a SB.

That’s sorta how I see it.

Just gotta make the playoffs. After that, it’s anyone’s race..

          • MB30SD

            neckbeard + TJ = SB

          • CanadaBear

Gotta throw in D. Manning letting that guy get behind him. The chances of that happening again in the game was almost nil (due to the torrential rain), yet Lovie played to prevent that exact play the rest of the game. Death by a thousand paper cuts. GRRR!

          • MB30SD

I’ll throw in Mike Brown not getting hurt. If MB was back there, no one would have gotten behind anyone.

and I fucking hate lovie. and every time some fair weather, ignorant dipshit bears ‘fan’ laments his loss, I literally picture myself being carted off to jail for beating them about the head and shoulders with a limp bizkit.

          • CanadaBear

Pisser for sure. With MB and Tommie, even Lovie wins that game. Oh well.

I’m late commenting on this, but I VERY clearly remembering being excited in 1985 that the Bears looked like a lock – to finally put together back to back playoff seasons.

Expectations rose dramatically after they licked the Cowboys ass (44-0 I beleive?) THAT’S when I first thought Super Bowl.

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Autistic Bears (ButchDeadLift)

Yeah, but NO ONE expected that level of dominance.

That’s what I’m referring to more than fielding a good team.

Good News: Tony Siragusa has been jettisoned from Fox.

    • CanadaBear

I like Charles Davis. Brennaman has always sucked but after getting canned by the Cubs, he and his crazy dad have been on a fuck the Cubs campaign forever. That sentiment bleeds over to the Bears games. Siragusa never bothered me but he absolutely never added anything to any broadcast. Part of that is the fate of the on the field announcer but he took it to a whole new level.

I’m joining the pessimism/optimism and media coverage relation discussion very late.

I know I’ve mentioned the statistics of a 32 team league many times. In brief, if every team had an equal chance of winning the SB every year, there still would be a 76% chance that one or more would not have won one in 100 years. A 40% chance that 2 or more would not.

It’s not random, but the hard cap, reverse draft, and free agency act as simulators of it.

I remind myself that every year. Halfway to 100 and still many team have not won even one. You have to love the game.

I look only for one thing – reasonable evidence that the team and regime recognizes what needs to be done and has a plan in place to get it done. I don’t need to agree with it (I’m pretty sure if I were a GM we’d be in contention every year – for the #1 draft choice that is.) And I understand mistakes will be made.

That said – Pace clearly has a plan. Emery might have too, but his disastrous gamble on Trestman gave him no time. (Seriously, I still admire George for seeing what had to be done and not waiting another year or 2.)

Angelo clearly didn’t have a plan.

So it’s fun when they win, disappointing but not upsetting if they lose. No “Eeyore” out me this year either. Hopefully never again, unless they do another Trestman/Mel Tucker thing.

    • CanadaBear

Anything Nessman related needs no apology. A true low point in Bears history. 100% agree about George and Virginia being pissed off.

      • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Autistic Bears (ButchDeadLift)

        mediocrity is one thing.
        misery quite another.

      • AlbertInTucson

Hard to forget that Bears ownership sat blissfully thru the Gibron, Armstrong, Wannstedt and Jauron regimes.

Thank you, George McCaskey, for appearing to be as fed up with the franchise’s direction as the fan base.

        • willbest

Sometimes I think George might be too much of a fan. Better that than not giving a shit though.

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Predictolator<19-0 (Butch)

I think we all need to send a thank you letter to that NO lawyer that pushed Georgy down the rabbit hole.

          • AlbertInTucson

            “Too much of a fan”?

I say ONLY if he thought he was the smartest football guy in the room (Can you say “Jerra Jones”, boys & girls?).

George went out and hired experienced football people to run things change team culture.

Remember, Fox is the first head coach hired in the history of the franchise who’d BEEN an NFL head coach.

Papa Bear re-assuming the job himself after going to war or stepping down once does not qualify.

        • CanadaBear

I totally agree but it was a different time and esp when GSH was still alive you suspected he hired stiffs because they were cheaper and never be any threat to him. At least for me Gibron, Jauron and Armstrong were good guys not cut out to be the HC. Wanny I agree was another low point. Wanny was a paranoid, kiss up, kick down type and Nessman was by far the most flaccid HC in Bears history. At least that’s my take on it.

          • Cormonster

I totally agree on Wanny. I still dislike him more than any Bears coach in my lifetime.

          • CanadaBear

Nessman is really close but I guess I gotta agree about Wanny.

          • MB30SD

Nah, trestman for me. At least wanny looked the part

          • CanadaBear

But he was such a paranoid asshole. I think Nessman means well he’s just a poindexter that should never be in charge of a team. That and he’s got a couple of hotties hanging around the house!

          • MB30SD

True on the hotties… not sire if that’s a couple points for or against

        • SC Dave

Yes, the rest of the heirs were worthless. Until George, it was a continual disaster.

    • willbest

Wasn’t the first half of Angelo’s tenure sort of marred with having to find value players? I know the cap and floor went in in the 90’s but it seems to me that it wasn’t until the 07 season when the Bears stopped the penny pinching.

  • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Predictolator<19-0 (Butch)

    Predictolator has returned.

It reports that the Bears got their losses out of the way in the pre-season to satisfy the statistical nano-gods.

    • BuddhaJoe

  • Cormonster

So, I talked with a good friend of mine who has sources within the Packers organization. According to him, the release of Sitton had nothing to do with his play on the field. In fact, he’s played very well the last three years (only giving up 2.5 sacks during that time) and he’s a leader in the locker room.

I guess the main reasons he was released are because he was “salty” about his contract situation and he’s got into it with McCarthy a few times about the direction of the team. Not blowing up in the locker room, but getting into some heated discussions with McCarthy about how the offense is run and making comments to the effect that Erin is the de facto OC. I guess that shit don’t fly in GB. Your not supposed to speak up, even if your intentions are to make the team better. By all accounts I’ve heard up here in Wisconsin, he was looked up to by many of his teammates, especially the other offensive linemen. Their loss. Glad they cut him and he’s on the Bears now.

Outside of the meatheads who think Thompson is some type of Vince Lombardi re-incarnate, most Packer fans are really pissed off about the move. Best comment I read on a Packer board went something like this: “It was smart of Thompson to cut him. He’s a good player, but he’s been hurt too much the last few years and missed way too many games”. He hasn’t missed a game in 3-4 years, dumbass!

    • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Predictolator<19-0 (Butch)

That’s exactly what I think of the Puke.

I posted in PFW “predictions” that the Pack are a soft, ill-coached, underGM team that will get unceremoniously booted from the 1st rd again because of it.

If they didn’t have Vadgers, they’d be the Lions.

Them winning the division that much has more to do with the ineptitude of the other teams in the NFCN more than with their “vision”.

      • willbest

They have a great QB, he has a great receiver. Add to that a middling defense and you have the recipe for a playoff team. One year they were lucky enough to win it all.

      • Cormonster

My buddy’s always railing about the softness of the Packers and how they got lucky to get hot and win the SB that year. He really doesn’t like Rogers either. He thinks he’s more concerned about his precious QB rating than he is with winning.

Rogers sure does take a lot of coverage sacks compared to most QBs. I read on here they gave up 47 sacks last year. I’ll bet at least half of them, if not more, were Rogers holding the ball too long and then just giving up on the play.

        • Irish Sweetness

They got lucky having crappy opposition in the NFCN for years. things are different now, this division will be a dog fight, and we’re not rolling over for them twice this year.

Cutty holds it too long too. He’s afraid to run I think, or wants the deep ball more.

          • CanadaBear

He’s always looking for the big play. It’s in his DNA. As far as I’m concerned he’s a tough SOB and has no fears of running the ball. Don’t know where you get the idea he’s afraid to run.

        • BerwynBomber

Your buddy sounds like an insane Farve fan. Rodgers seems to care about winning as much as anyone. God knows he does enough of it against us. He’s just super-conscious of protecting the ball. Apparently he learned part of that watching Farve become the all-time INT leader.

          • willbest

No QB will ever be allowed to get that many INTs ever again. Anybody on that pace won’t have a career as a starter.

          • BerwynBomber

Maybe. Would have to look at Farve’s career stats. Guys like Brees, Rivers and Luck have rung up some high INT #s at time but they’re offset by high productivity. (Well, not counting Luck last year.)

That was always my beef with the pre-Gase Cutty. I could have lived with the 18 INTs a year — Jay’s a gunslinger type — but if you do that you have to be (at least) in the low 30s in TDs. And yes, I know yards are more indicative of production than TD passes but I’m just lazy and yards would still factor the same with all guys I mentioned.

Rodgers and (to a lesser extent) Brady are freaks. Guys with the super high productivity but very low INT #s; i.e., mad efficient.

          • willbest

His yards have been lackluster. He has only cleared 4k yards once, and it was the year before we traded for him. But even that year he was 25-18 TD-INT.

          • BerwynBomber

Exactly. That is what I mean — the TD/yards would be indicative of the guys I mentioned. Brees, Rivers and Luck with a high # of yards. Cutty with not so much.

Anyway, really interested to see how he plays this year. He played well last year but I wonder if low turnover Jay is natural Jay.

Shaun Hill starting for the Vikes this Sunday and Detroit playing in Indy.

    GB playing Jax.

Bears and Pack start the year 1-0 and Vikes and Lions at 0-1. I like it.

    • willbest

If AP still has it (and he did get a year rehabilitation in there), you can’t count the vikings out.

      • Johnnywad

I can. Watch me. “Vikings are out.”

Shaun Hill is their quarterback. Pretty sure he brought a pizza to my house a couple weeks ago.

This Bears D will do just fine against 400 year old AP with absolutely no threat of a completed pass to worry about.

    • beninnorcal

I wish I had your confidence when it comes to the Bears beating the Texans.. in Texas.

      • PaceBot 2000

Houston is banged up too man. Goldmember and Hicks are going up against backup C and OT. Push up the middle should be intense.

Loggins just can’t play into Mercilus and Watt’s hands. Make their linebackers run side to side and chase guys.

Use the fullback and don’t over think easy first downs. Use Alshon early and often til they start biting then go deep.

Don’t let Hopkins beat you on big plays. make them earn every yard and Osweiler will falter.

        • BerwynBomber

It seems winnable and if we win it there is a good chance we could be 4-0 when we head to Indy.

          • willbest

And in week 5 there is a good chance we will be playing Indy’s backup. Though they did draft two o-linemen this year.

          • PaceBot 2000

Ooh, rookie linemen……..I’m sure Fangio is terrified. Fucking dead.

        • Johnnywad

Their Center is not only a backup, but an undrafted free agent rook. Good luck with that.

        • SC Dave

Don’t forget Clowney. This is the breakout year

      • Irish Sweetness

Their OL is less than strong. JJ is no way close to okay. Brent fucking Brockweiler at QB. They can have all the receivers they want, but there will be mayhem caused by loose Bears in that backfield.

We can stop the run .. .I love our corners … our inside backers .. .the whole vibe.
We have Cutty … White is on report with a hammy …. but we have Howard to look forward to. It’s all good. Until it’s not.

        Bears win. Guaranteed Irish.

    • BerwynBomber

I could see the Pack losing. Roadie against a fired up young team. But Bortles will have to protect the football.

    • Irish Sweetness

Yeah, I’m leaning towards Det (+3) over Indy, Ten (+2.5) over Minny but Jax over GB (-5.5). With the beloved at +6. All the dogs!

Its that time of year when I look at the fall lineup, to see what they came up with and pretty much go back to not watching TV. But I have a couple comments

Holy Fucking movie spin-offs. There was Limitless but this season they are doing Lethal Weapon, Taken, Training Day, The Exorcist, and Frequency.

We also have spin-offs from other shows 24:Legacy, Blacklist: Redemption, Chicago Justice, and Young MacGyver. Prison Break gets honorable mention because I think its just taking a victory lap.

The new Keifer Sutherland show has that shit hits the fan prepper porn that I am partial to. He is a low level cabinet secretary that is left President after the dozen people in front of him are killed in a DC attack. Designated Survivor on ABC

But then I saw this, and it spiked my blood pressure

Pitch. A drama about the first female pitcher in the MLB? No. Stop it. File it under Fantasy. The best fastball by a woman right now is some Japanese lass and she tops out in the low 80s mph. Oh and the team? Padres… National league. Way to go not even giving her a DH most the time.

    • Irish Sweetness

Some of the shorter ones are good. ‘5 days’ is passable. Premise: the world has been hit by a sleep ‘virus’. You fall asleep, you die.

‘Stranger Things’ was good. Again, about 6 episodes. Peaky Blinders is definitely worth a watch.
