DaBearsBlog Weekend Show – 9/16/16 [AUDIO]

| September 15th, 2016

On this week’s show:

    • I open by discussing what I see as the established goals after Houston: develop Whitehair, White and Floyd.
    • Paul Domowitch of the Philadelphia Inquirer discusses Carson Wentz, Eagles injuries after the opener and what he expects Monday night. (Paul is great and you should listen to this if only to hear one of the best columnists in the country.)
    • Reverend Dave compares the Bears opener to an attempted armed robbery in Morocco.
    • Why I like the Chicago Bears this week.

    Wentz…..dead?

    • MB30SD

      THERE HE IS!

      fucking D-E-D

  • GPLDAN

I liked when Jeff said that our OLBs “just aren’t comfortable” with covering receivers.

Umm…… yes. That is one way to put it.

  • GPLDAN

Rev Dave just compared the Bears to a shitbird street thug that will someday learn to kill and maim, but right now is a joke.

    • Sauron’s right eyeball

Do street thugs get mugged like the Bears did last week in the 2nd half? The Rev. Needs to go back and watch some film. Oh that’s right… my bad, Jeff’s not into film anymore.

      • DaBearsBlog

I was never into film. Did it for a three week period and it bored me to shit. There are plenty of people paid to study film. (And most of those just re-watch the game without All-22)

        • Sauron’s right eyeball

          Just making fun Jeff.

          • DaBearsBlog

I will say that re-watching the game, the Bears bad second half was drastically overrated. They just made stupid, drive-killing mistakes. And John Fox was…rough.

I decided to go easy on Fox this week. Because I’ve generally liked him thus far. But another clunker like Sunday from the sideline and I’m going to get more fired up.

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

Yes I realize that however the Bears lost in almost every Stat category. I give them a pass.

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Predictolator<18-1 (Butch)

            Albino lovie

          • Irish Sweetness

Individuals made those mistakes though – receivers/linemen -and they should be made accountable.

          • AlbertInTucson

I’ve liked Fox so far, too, Blogfather, but zero for three on challenge decisions last Sunday punctuated but the brain-dead decision to punt with 5:30 or so left (a decision that sent me to the exit) REALLY put some doubt in my mind. The comparisons to Lovie were not out of line.

          • MB30SD

            sycophant

        • MB30SD

you need to have Data do that weekly jeff.

          Data, you game?

ps. you’re nickname is data, you don’t have a choice.

  • BearDown100393

    15-1

    • AlbertInTucson

Right now, I’ll settle for 1-1.

  • BearDown100393

“Yeah, I think at the time if I had the ability to see what people get
to see at home, with yellow lines and blue lines and all the things … I
think what … we might have won it,” Fox said. “[In] hindsight, I wish
I would have challenged it.” http://www.espn.com/blog/chicago-bears/post/_/id/4703665/upon-further-review-john-fox-regrets-not-challenging-brock-osweiler-sneak

    • GPLDAN

      Oh my. THere’s your huckleberry.

  • BerwynBomber

Bruce Smith getting his jersey retired tonight. I always preferred him over Reggie White, though I realize that opinion was/is in the minority (and probably for decent reasons). Anyway, good on him. Dude was a badass.

    • Irish Sweetness

One of the most under-rated teams of all time. Loved watching the Bills.

  • BearDown100393

Rex Ryan looks like a giant cranberry.

    • Sauron’s right eyeball

      Eye agree.

  • BearDown100393

Marshall Marshall Marshall’s got a knee.

    • Scharfinator

Yeah, poor guy. The facemask is what did it.

      • BearDown100393

Even if he can walk to the room for an exam, why bother? Just use the cart.

        • Scharfinator

          Yeah agreed.

  • willbest

Revis is apparently not much better than Porter anymore. Has he done enough for Canton?

    • BerwynBomber

Good question. He was a true shutdown guy for what a half-dozen years? And he was pretty decent on run support. But yeah if his career goes south this early Canton might be a coin flip.

Weird, because anyone would put a ton a money on the bet he would have been a lock.

    • BearDown100393

The front end – yes. The back end – no. Overall? Dunno. He’ll have to hire a campaign manager.

  • Johnnywad

I can’t believe Marshall is back in this game. That dude is made out of different stuff.

    • BearDown100393

the needle and the damage done

    • BerwynBomber

Best WR I have ever saw in a Bears uni. Had his flaws — hell I can understand getting rid of him — but the dude is a beast.

      • Johnnywad

Absolutely. Too bad he’s nuts. Although he’d likely still be in Denver if he was sane. We never would have seen him in a Bears uniform.

I just can’t believe there isn’t significant structural damage to that knee. Amazing.

        • BerwynBomber

He’s a bit like TO (even if a different sort of crazy) in that you can say a lot of negative things that are true or probably true but the one thing you can’t say is that he is not a fuck of a player and won’t play hurt.

Injuries are starting to pile up

      • Johnnywad

Matty got hammered on that touchdown too.

  • BerwynBomber

    Heckuva play by Taylor.

  • EnderWiggin

That was the fastest review of a change of possession TD I’ve seen.

  • Cormonster

Who’s got Forte in DBB FF league? He’s kicking some ass tonight.

    • SC Dave

What? As you all know, Matt cannot score on red zone runs

      • Cormonster

Glad to see him have a good game. He was the only reason I watched the game tonight.

        • willbest

Hell, I want him to put together that 1 season of glory to push him into Canton consideration.

          • Cormonster

I just looked up Forte and Peterson’s total yards from scrimmage stats (excluding tonight’s game). They’ve both played in 121 games. Amazing how close they are excluding td’s. Adrian has 2730 plays to Forte’s 2700 (rushes plus pass attempts), about 22 “touches” per game. Peterson averages a little over six yards a game more than Forte, 112.8 to 106.4 Peterson averages 4.75 more TD’s per season.

I would like to see a stat for total 1st downs for each player. That would be an interesting stat to compare and contrast.

            http://www.pro-football-reference.com/leaders/yds_from_scrimmage_career.htm

          • willbest

Peterson also has him beat in the increasing important category of whipped testicles. Though in fairness, we don’t always know what goes on at the bottom of the pile. Its possible Forte is just more discrete.

          • MB30SD

            Good stat

          • BerwynBomber

But in a way that only confirms how great a pure runner AP is as I assume Forte has a sizable number more receptions yet their YPG remain very close.

          • Cormonster

Definitely. Petersen averages 4.9 yards per carry, which is much higher than the average, even for HOF backs. I think only Sanders had a higher average in the modern era. Most HOF backs are in the 4.2 or 4.3 range over a career.

          • SC Dave

I would count Jim Brown as the modern era. He averaged 5.2.

          • MB30SD

In no way shape or form is Brown a modern era back Dave.

The game was soooooo different back then. Sanders, sweetness, esmith, dickerson, maaaaybe even oj, but he’s very much on the cusp for me and most likely out

          • CanadaBear

I’d like to agree with ya since I remember watching Jim Brown as a kid but sadly I’m afraid I agree with MB.

          • MB30SD

            Old motherfuckers… all of us

          • CanadaBear

No kidding. I have no idea where the demarcation would be between old and modern. If it’s after 1970 Sayers and Butkus are relegated to the old era (which for me is a giant pisser) but no doubt the game is so different, Just watching the ’85 Bears and seeing them get away with murdering people is shocking (in a good way!!!!!!). I’m taking nothing away from Jim Brown. Yes he was on the best team at the time and his OL was the best in the biz but he was a man among boys on the field.

          • MB30SD

Yes. When football was football not the shit we have now. It’s like it they penalized you in soccer for scoring a goal. Smh.

And yeah, I think the cut off for me on the moder era definition would be 1980. That seems like a good place to cut

        • SC Dave

Ditto on reason I watched. I don’t think Matty will last at 30 carries per game though.

    • Shady

      Butch.

      • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Predictolator<18-1 (Butch)

Caught Trump on Jimmy Fallon. He let Jimmy tussle his hair. That is one of the most impressive comb-overs I have ever seen. I can’t believe that there isn’t a better option out there for a billionaire.

Reminds me of the Star Trek joke

Dr. Crusher: You have stage for IV prostate cancer Here is a shot, bed rest for a day and you will be good as new.

Picard: Splendid. Hey can you do something about baldness?

    Dr. Crusher: Sorry.

  • Irish Sweetness

Man, Brandon gets a lot of stick.

It’s now perfectly acceptable in society for a man to stick another man’s cock in his mouth, and woe betide anyone who makes an issue of it, or heaven forbid poke fun at trannies … but have any kind of mental illness and it’s “Fuck you”. You’re stained, dirty and broken. What a fucked up planet.

    • Big Mike

Brandon does have a mental illness, and mental Illnesses are still not taken seriously. The hard thing about Brandon’s mental illness is its symptoms look a lot like being an asshole. Hard to say what is the disease and what is him just being an asshole.

      • MB30SD

He was one of, if not thee, favorite most moden (last 10) bear for me…. on o.

D is easy, mb and peanut. I want it to be Lach, but hes such a fucking lunkhead

        • Scharfinator

Having babies with pornstars is dumb? WHAaaaaaaaaaaaaat? 🙂

          • MB30SD

            Not that part of course

      • Scharfinator

BPD is particularly difficult to empathize with, I agree. Since we haven’t found any actual physical evidence for it, I struggle to call it a disease. It consists of learned behaviors and emotional responses. It’s even referred to a disorder.

It’s not that I don’t feel for people with BPD, but I struggle to compare/contrast disorders with diseases (schizophrenia, for example). I suppose that is on me – I’m fortunate enough to not know what it is like to have any of that.

        • MB30SD

Sooooo, you’re just an asshole then?!?!

          • MB30SD

I see you typing. It was just too easy schsrf

          • Scharfinator

Not that… Just think about it this way.

A soldier comes back from Afghanistan with PTSD. Is that a mental disease? Or a disorder?

          • Big Mike

Doesn’t matter. Most mental illnesses present with multiple symptoms, which makes them a disorder I believe.

          • Scharfinator

Functionally, yes, it doesn’t matter. Either way it needs to be treated and understood.

Academically, is that how they define disorder vs. illness vs. disease? My google fu is weak.

          • Big Mike

No, I did give that impression. Disorder, is the more current term. Historically illness inferred a biological condition, but for mental illness this wasn’t exactly accurate.

        • Big Mike

My daughter is bi-polar. it’s also referred to as a disorder. Meaning it’s a collection of issues. It is very different then BPD. Being bi-polar includes depression, mania, seizures, hallucinations and worse. My empathy for mental illness is fairly strong. I’ve educated myself as much as possible on the topic. As a teenager she would hide bad behavior behind her disease. It was near impossible to sort it out. But her mom and I could eventually tell. Properly treated and with time it is possible to function at a very high level with this illness. I believe it is the same with BPD. So if Brandon Marshall is taking care of himself as he proclaims, then what you see is not his disease, but his personality.

          • Scharfinator

I empathize with you – I have a direct family member with bipolar as well. I can’t imagine it in a teenager trying to get away with stuff though! The moods are hard enough to ride out without someone trying to hide things (though that seems to be a symptom in and of itself).

          • Big Mike

First who the hell understands a teenage girl? They’re a different species. Now add in this illness? It was a few years of simply hanging on to our daughter and our own sanity, followed by a couple years of anxiety and periodic incidents/hospital stays etc while she was attempting to live with this as a young adult on her own. She’s survived that and has it as under control as it gets. At this point it’s like being an recovering addict. If she does the 3 things she is supposed to do, take meds, go to counseling, journal/be mindful of her mental state daily, she’s all set.

    • MB30SD

Was that a little bit ‘o homophobia?!

Who cares who other people wanna fuckie/suckie maings? It’s nature… it should be perfectly acceptable… this is 2016.

And you’re really insensitive, you really should apologize to butch dude.

      • Irish Sweetness

That’s my point exactly. Comprehension on this blog is sometimes cloudy.

The point is that it is entirely acceptable in modern society to be gay an express oneself in that manner. Making fun of those who are gay is deemed unacceptable … yet int he area of mental illness, it’s perfectly acceptable to call people crazy, loons, etc. when they have a condition there’s literally nothing they can do about except deal with.

    • BerwynBomber

Anytime you’re a dude who beats women, you’re probably not going to get a lot of love except from your home team. And BMarsh didn’t even catch much flak for that. He was suspended a whopping one game in his entire NFL career (he was lucky in that his stuff occurred pre-Ray Rice) and was largely shown the exit here because of lockerroom chemistry.

But who’s giving him a lot of grief? And what’s with the gay bash? They’re on the level of spousal abuser dudes? I don’t get that analogy.

      • CanadaBear

One thing that may have helped BMarsh not get into too much trouble with the NFL was his wife stabbed him in the abdomen and after that he got serious about getting some help. That incident outside the nightclub right before the Bears got BMarsh was a he said/she said deal. If you can believe BMarsh, someone hit his wife in the head with a champagne bottle. I’d give someone a lot of leeway in that situation. To his credit, I think his clubbing days ended that night.

        • MB30SD

I like him man, hes an ahole at times, but what nfl star isnt. Just wish he wouldn’t have cancered his way off the bears. : (

And yeah, I would very easily kill someone in rage if they tried to harm one of my kids… I do not fuck around with that stuff at all. I actually have to play the scenario out in my head erra once in a while so that if it actually happened I’d at least have thought that scenario through so as not to complete loose it.

          • CanadaBear

If some asshole hit my wife in the head with a champagne bottle I would turn into Yosemite Sam. If it was a woman that did it, I wouldn’t care. I would go nuts. Probably get my ass beat or killed.

          • willbest

I saw a number that 60 years ago men committed violent crimes at a rate of 11 to 1 compared to women, that number is down to 4 to 1 today. I also saw a number that women are responsible for over 60% of child abuse these days, which makes sense with the growth of single motherhood.

So its not just the pay gap where they are making strides in equality. Though there is still a massive disparity in prison time for same crime committed that we need to address.

          • CanadaBear

I noticed the difference riding bicycles. Up until the 90’s only white males between 16-65 harassed me in traffic on a bicycle. Starting in the 90’s women started doing the same. Since then, women seem to get nuttier and more aggressive in traffic.

          • BerwynBomber

I don’t doubt that but on the flip side I see more male drivers (than women drivers) talking on their smart phones and putzing along at 25 in a 35 and while clogging the fast lane. Never fails to annoy me.

          • CanadaBear

Distracted driving is scary as hell. Hope people figure it out. Right now even with the cops cracking down on it, it seems like people aren’t taking it seriously.

          • BerwynBomber

Agreed. Especially on the expressway. Very little excuses road rage but when some oblivious moron is backing up people in the passing lane it leads to impatience and people taking risks behind him.

I have always felt there should be a national PSA teaching people about the passing lane/how to use it.

          • willbest

Well the high end cars come with some measure idiot proofing, and those features will be on standard in a decade, and a decade after that will be the cars that drive better than humans.

          • CanadaBear

The thing about all those warning lights and audible alarms, if you’re not paying attention they are pretty easy to ignore. People hate bicyclists enough that drivers can run down cyclists and get away with it pretty often. Now these same terrible, distracted drivers are mowing down pedestrians. Scary stuff.

          • willbest

Not the alarms so much as the auto-breaking features.

          • Sactowns#1

Here’s a sad stat for you from the failed war on the poor errrr I mean drugs. The incarceration rate of women rose 646% from 1980 to 2010. SIX FORTY SIX! If you think that doesn’t destroy lives and communities youre crazy.

          • willbest

Its easy to have massive growth when the number is tiny to begin with. And considering women are now committing violent crimes at 3 times the rate they used to, I accounted for half the increase of incarcerations right there.

          • Sactowns#1

The US population has grown 30% so a 20% increase in the number of women being arrested would be expected. A 646% increase is not.
now consider 25% of those incarcerated are for drug “crimes”. Ridiculous.

          • BerwynBomber

Reagan’s Anti-Drug Law was one of the worst pieces of domestic federal legislation in the last fifty years. If not the worst. It has really destroyed lives.

          • CanadaBear

It started with Nixon and his cronies when they made pot a class 1 narcotic to control the hippies and African-Americans. It worked perfectly and there are a zillion people in jail. Anyone that has smoked pot can tell you that pot is hardly in the same class with heroin.

          • Irish Sweetness

            Tell that to my mother.

          • Sactowns#1

Yet the Neo Cons will pillory anyone who speaks the truth about that one.

          • MB30SD

            Hahaha, yep

        • BerwynBomber

Yeah, but both those incidents were well past his GF-beating stuff.

I think those incidents made it easier for Bears fans to swallow but he had a rap sheet as long as his arm. He would have missed at least half of season if his stuff had occurred pre-Rice.

          • CanadaBear

True dat! I think you meant to say post-Rice. Totally agree.

      • Irish Sweetness

Well, his wife stabbed him, I hope he knocked her out for that. Men have become pussified in the last 20 years.

Warren Moon wrapped a phone cord around his wife’s neck and he’s in the HOF. If Big Ben was throwing passes to Marshall in Bears unis would anyone here boycott the team?

    • CanadaBear

Not sure what gay men and trannies have to do with mental illness but I agree mental illness is given short shrift. It’s not obvious so unless you’re paying attention, people aren’t aware. Esp if they really don’t want to be aware. Being a super rich, outgoing, at times outlandish, famous public figure, you’re going to get a lot of unwanted attention. His checkered past doesn’t help. I have nothing but respect for BMarsh but I’ll save my sympathy for poor people.

      • Irish Sweetness

It’s very hard to argue with the last line.

        And his Buckaroos!

If the Beloved can get the run game going up the middle, that wide 9 won’t be Philly’s friend. I have no idea if that’s possible but I’m hoping. Nothing would make me happier than to have the Bears O completely dominate Gym Shorts D. Fuck I hate that guy.

    • BerwynBomber

ESPN’s FF guru suggested that the FFers play Langford this week and sit Ryan Matthews. Our D held HOU to under 4 yards a carry, and Matthews has not had 4 yards a carry in some time.

      • CanadaBear

Miller was eating them up in the first half. Once the Beloved tightened up the run D, the Texans passing game picked up. Gonna be interesting.

        • BerwynBomber

Remember Harbaugh vs. Shorts? That’s still worth a reminiscent chuckle.

          • CanadaBear

I would have bet the house on Harbaugh if they started scrapping. Never get in a fight with a crazy person, it never ends unless they lose consciousness.

          • MB30SD

Is Schwartz still there? Not sure if they run a wide 9 anymore but either way we should get our run ame going w that interior Oline.
      If not danger will robinson

  • BerwynBomber

Small nit but PIT/CIN should have been the Sun night game this weekend. Not GB/MIN.

    • Big Mike

      fuck the packers

      • BerwynBomber

They receive too many night or afternoon games.

        • willbest

Afternoon games is just a function of having away games on the West Coast.

          • CanadaBear

Not entirely. It used to be that the Cowgirls were the second game on Sunday about 90% of the time.

          • willbest

Well the networks do get some degree of selecting the national afternoon game much as they do the evening and monday night games

          • BerwynBomber

Au contraire. You’ll see some Packer’s Midwest games with 3:30 starts. Happens more than you think.

          • willbest

Yes, I realized after I posted there are some rules that allow them to select an east side game in the afternoon slot for the national broadcast.

        • Big Mike

That’s just my response to posts about gb

Yes BUT the PIT/CIN rivalry has been much more exciting in recent years. Plus, you have the Gladiator-like vibe coming off their post-season game last year.

Kobe settled with his accuser before it went to civil court. Rose did not. Hence, all the info leaks.

    • BerwynBomber

I really tired of him after his injuries. Way too much posse and special demands. The Bulls absolutely babied him and it still wasn’t enough. It was completely understandable why players like Butler and Gasol were resentful. Good riddance to him and Noah, though they were excellent players and I am half-interested to see how they fare in NYC.

    • willbest

I wonder if you can buy gold digger insurance.

It doesn’t say whether or not Rose was too drunk to consent but I have long wondered how come when both parties are too drunk to consent, it is still the man raping the woman, and not off-setting penalties as it were.

Sure they encouraged me, bought me drinks and tried to keep me out past my bedtime but ultimately it was me that got me drunk.

  • Sactowns#1

Thank goodness we don’t have that Matt Forte on the team anymore. In back to back performances he just looked totally over the hill. Thanks Pox. You guys sure nailed that one and BMarsh.

    • CanadaBear

I understood both moves but it would make it a lot easier to take if they would have had decent replacements on the roster.

    • willbest

You think Forte would have fared well behind our oline against the Texans? And what if he gets injured or goes Full Least mode in the second half of the season? Really you can’t fault cutting bait too early as long as it wasn’t way too early

      • Sactowns#1

Let’s see, $6mil a year (which wouldn’t all go against the cap) when we have $7.5 in cap space? Yup. And as Canada said, jettisoning people with no clear plan or replacement is just bad business.

        • willbest

Well they wanted CJ Anderson who lit it up against the Panthers but Denver matched tenders.

          • SC Dave

This. As always, time will tell. My opinion is Howard will ultimately be the guy, if its someone on the team right now, that is.

          • Irish Sweetness

I think we saw the future in the PS. Howard deserves at least 50% of the snaps.

          • SC Dave

As a numbers game, i projected Forte with two more of his average seasons, followed by a single year at half production.

This would end his career with about 17,200 yards from scrimmage, which is Curtis Martin / Marcus Allen territory.

If he did not make the Hall with that, it would be a travesty.

We’re still only 1 game in and havnt even used Cary or Howard.

IMO FORTE has 2 more seasons (why i drafted him!) but Pace was obviously thinking longer term

          • willbest

Forte doesn’t take a lot of the hits the bruisers do. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is the oldest back in the league in a couple years. I believe that honor currently belongs to D’Angelo Williams. And he shredded the Redskins last week. A team I thought was ready to take the next step. Frank Gore being 1 month younger than him had a serviceable 78 yards from scrimmage on 20 touches

Matty wont last at 30 carries per game imo. There were several plays, however, where Forte could have picked up very nice yardage (and one easy TD) in the passing game.

When Fitz figures that out, maybe the Jets will go that route more. In the open field, Matt has as good a chance to hit someone as be hit. Or, to just avoid it altogether.

Enunwa was a UFA that we could have picked up for 2M or less. He was touted on this blog, but Pace knew better I guess. Caught all balls thrown at him. Jets look good, bit harsh to fire the Bills OC after the game but there you go.

      • willbest

Enunwa was actually a 6th round pick in 2014. He was cut and placed on the practice squad, but he was also suspended for 4 games for discplinary issues, but you are right he is cheap as he is almost certainly the league min which would be about $600k for a 3rd year player.

          • Huge Bears Penis

well duh, because the Saudis have already admitted they helped fund terrorist groups. With her unsteady walk (her handlers are obviously concerned she’s going fall over at virtually any second), tremors. I don’t think the Parkinson’s speculation is out of line

Whatever IS wrong with her, physically, it is NOT going to go away under the stress she’s under which is only going to worse.

She is not going to be helped any come November 1 when the skyrocketing new Obamacare rates lock in.

His he mentally or physically disabled? The kid, not the uncle.

Though I am not entirely sure how not wanting your kid to play dodgeball implies he thinks there shouldn’t be a score or everybody gets a participation ribbon.

The narrative that I picked up on is that Democrats are the primary drivers in education both as the workers and the policy makers (and publishing the materials). And this has been the case well pretty much since public education began about 100 years ago. Its present form, Common Core, exists because Bill Gates deemed it necessary.

          • http://www.upitpuppet.com/ evantonio

Uncle may be missing a screw. Cousin isn’t. Uncle didn’t want the cousin playing dodgeball because the cousin isn’t an athlete and felt bad about himself for always being one of the first ones being out. Instead of uncle telling cousin to suck it up, uncle tells school it’s not fair he has to play sports. That’s what I was referring to about not fitting in with the left’s touchy-feely narrative.

As far as textbooks go, wasn’t there a thing where national textbooks were being catered to the needs of Texas, because Texas was the country’s biggest market? So whatever the Texas board (way more right than left) wanted in their curriculum was forced on the nation?

          • willbest

Well I can only say is kids change your viewpoint. The cognitive dissonance surrounding the liberals in my 85%+ white neighborhood is astounding. And it isn’t all that surprising to find somebody making exceptions for their own self-interest.

It wasn’t that Texas was the biggest market, it was that 6 other states just piggybacked off the Texas certification process. But these were like Mississippi, and Oklahoma. This made getting certified in Texas particularly important. Its like what California does to the rest of the country in terms of environmental regulations. Since CA is 20% of the US market, and it has the strictest standards, the whole country often ends up meeting it.

Also known as the Rabbi tax

But you are making a mistake in assuming that just because a state is conservative, the educational infrastructure is. Teacher’s unions which are rabidly pro-democrat have outsized influence even in conservative states.

How did I guess who would be the pro giving money to billionaires crowd would be? lol Regardless of political affiliation I think we can all agree this is horrible public policy.

      • willbest

I think giving money to billionaires is a stupid idea. But sometime during the Robber Barron era (and what the current corp of elites do now would make those guys blush) we moved ever so slowly to full blown Cronyism.

However, I don’t have any idea what that has to do with how that is robbing education.

Its my understanding that its 1 billionaire (adelson) imposing a tax on all the other billionaire’s properties (aka hotels) to ostensibly be paid for by tourist. Something that would be DOA if they were to try and do it to for education, because those same billionaires would be screaming about how people wouldn’t got to Vegas but a city that doesn’t look and smell like ass during the day.

I will, however, grant LVPS a reprieve from my usual public school vitriol because unlike CPS they are equally as shitty at less than half the cost. And considering, as I mentioned, they have a fairly transient population there it isn’t surprising that they don’t perform well.

I’m socially conservative, hawkish, have fathered both of my children in wedlock, spanked them both, own guns, don’t like abortion, and believe if you’re an adult, you or your spouse should have to work so your family can eat and have stuff. Does this make me a “nut right winger”?

When I was young I was working retail, and somebody called (this was back when you had to do that) and asked if X was in stock, and I said yes and they hung up and they showed up a couple hours later and in the meantime the 3 remaining X were sold (it was a sale item). There I was making about 25 cents an hour over min. wage getting berated for what was probably only a couple minutes but felt like 10 for wasting somebody’s time. The manager “saved the day” by giving angry person shit they didn’t deserve at that point. Though he did hand me a buck and told me to go grab a snickers bar or something before returning to work.

So yeah, I can totally see where on his $4 million dollar a year annual salary that might be distressing.

    Joey Bosa.

    Out with a hammy.

We all saw THAT coming when he finally signed.

Nah I was expecting 3 sacks, 4 TFL, 2 batted passes and a FF.

      • AlbertInTucson

Only if he played the Bears.

There’s something that bothers me about the concussion protocol. For example, a pass rusher makes helmet to helmet contact with the quarterback. Flag is thrown and penalty assessed. Concussion observers rule the QB off the field. In goes the backup QB. 99% of the time, that backup QB is going to perform substandard to the play of the starting QB. In my books, despite the added penalized yardage, the offense minus its starting QB is still at a disadvantage even if for just one play (assuming the starting QB gets back on the field). Since this is potential injury situation (player removed for concussion protocol), I propose the NFL should strip a timeout from the penalized team when it opponent loses a player to the protocol. The yardage lost and fines accumulated don’t seem to matter. Perhaps the loss of timeouts will.

    • willbest

I find merit in your idea. Another I was thinking was just pull the H2H player until the corresponding player gets back in.

      • http://www.dabearsbeat.com/ Johnathan Wood

I like that idea, though there’s obviously potential for concern there. If you’re the Jets playing, say, Denver, is it worth it to swap Fitzpatrick for Von Miller? That’s something to consider, right?

Plus the NFL would have to stop flagging when the offensive player lowers his head and presents that as the clear target. Those flags always piss me off to no end.

Limited in practice: Kevin White (hamstring), Kyle Long (shoulder), Bryce
Callahan (groin), Kyle Fuller (knee), Paul Lasike (left wrist), Deonte
Thompson (knee/ankle), Deon Bush (hamstring), Cornelius Washington
    (ankle/knee)

If Kevin White cannot run, why bother dressing him? He won’t be fooling the defense as he won’t be targeted let alone serve as a viable decoy.

    • http://www.dabearsbeat.com/ Johnathan Wood

injury report lists only Fuller. He’s questionable. Everybody else is playing (though all those guys would likely be “probable” if the NFL hadn’t removed that designation).

big weekend of football coming up. I view this one as a must win. GB plays Minny so someone is coming out of that thing 2-0. Detroit has a tough matchup so we have to take advantage. Bears have to win this one as it’s a favorable matchup and a Conference opponent. Shit will get crazy in the NFC East depending on what happens.
I predict that the offense puts up 24 and the defense holds the Eagles to 20. Let’s fucking do this.

Birdcage, i’d fucking better see fullbacks, short routes to Royal, the use of Alshon on early downs and Kevin White running fucking college ass routes. God damnit Birdcage it’s not fucking brain surgery.
