Bears Questions From Twitter

| August 25th, 2016

Screen Shot 2016-08-24 at 7.54.00 PM

I had nothing to write. I asked Twitter what I should write. They gave me stuff.

I have watched every snap of Kyle Fuller’s young career and I really believe he’s at his best with his eyes on the ball, squared up to the QB. His corner skills are decent but it’s his ability to close on the football that sets him apart from young players. I see the move as possible.

I think the secondary and offensive line are the team’s weaknesses. But the Bears front 7 is so strong I think they’ll be able to compensate for a lack of talent at the back.

Deiondre’ Hall.

Because Cromartie is shot. He struggled mightily playing opposite Revis in New York. What will he do opposite Porter?

Top 3: Patriots, Panthers, Ravens

Bottom 3: Eagles, 49ers, Browns

I’m somewhat afraid to be the first to read this.

    • Huge Bear’s Penis

Since the questions were coming from twitter, I half expected to see a question on what the GSH stands for on the uniforms…..

      • MB30SD

        Get shit hot?

        • Huge Bear’s Penis

it’s actually a porn category Granny’s Sloppy Hummers.

          • MB30SD

            Ewwwww

          • willbest

So I went to urban dictionary and surprisingly the most upvoted is George Stanley Halas. The only other entry with a positive vote total is “getting some head”

    • Big Mike

I’m optimistic for the O-line. O-line is an attitude, as well as talent. The Bears have some talent, but my impression is they have a great approach. Might be irrational fan. I loved the pick of Whitehair. I’m good with Leno and Massie. Larsen to Center doesn’t bother me so much. Long’s injury is an issue, but if he can go, he will. We just don’t want to learn it is a tear.

      • SC Dave

I’m with you, but concerned by the *apparent* lack of depth. People will get dinged up, and backups that can step in without too much disruption are unknown quantities with the Bears.

        • MB30SD

Yeah, but that seems to happen to us and every other team in the league errands year. We’ll muddle through

        • Big Mike

Depth is never worse that before pre-season game 3 when all you worries and inner demons, combine with lack of information about who is on the roster. Time will heal this.

      • Could be worse.

The SeaChickens are starting Webb at LT.

        • Big Mike

🙂 Wonder if he’s gotten better?

          • No. No he has not. A few Oline specialist have ranked the SeaChicken’s Oline as the worst, and one of them literally groaned when he mentioned Webb.

          • Big Mike

            awesome

Sent from Gmail on my iPhone

          • Big Mike

I’ll tell you one thing, Webb has certainly gotten the most $ out of his talent. You see some guys who are far better than their contracts or don’t even get offered contracts. Then there is Webb who keeps getting contract after contract. After 6 years he’s earned $3.14 million. He’ll earn $3 million this year with the Seahawks. ($2.45) guaranteed. He is clearly one of the 2010 Draft’s 7th round winners. He played out his rookie contract, bounced around for 2 contracts (Vikings and Raiders) for 3 seasons and has now landed a nice 2 year deal.

        • SC Dave

Guess it goes to show how hard it is to find a left tackle in the modern NFL.

@dabearsblog I am new to the twatter thing, Jeff. I am writing a musical about the need for flexibility at all stages of life. It will feature the music of Carrie Newcomer. Can you help with the script?

  • PaceBot 2000

Jeff…..desperate for topics, turns to the cold, impersonal and trendy world of twitter instead of his comfy home here at da blog. Like a new John Hughes movie where our male lead, instead of realizing and engaging the cute girl next store that KNOWS how he likes his butt played with during handjobs instead turns to the impersonal and dirty world of craigslist and settles for some tranny hooker.

That tranny hooker will set you up for a robbery/homicide bro, never turn your back on the cute, girl next door with handjob skills just waiting for you to invite her over to watch TV.

    • Big Mike

      I feel taken advantage of.

    • Huge Bear’s Penis

I am pretty sure I would watch that new type of John Hughes movie.

Oddly, “Tranny Hookers in the Bush” is the title of Irish’s new autobiography.

Well I have no personal knowledge as my wife is a good gal and would never do that sort of thing, but if you happen to be on one of those 2-5-2 configuration airplanes, and are in one of the 2’s with a woman it can be done discretely under one of those blankets the airline gives you on international flights.

  • Bears-4-Ever

How can the Jets not be in the bottom three?

KC should be an interesting game, things should be starting to gel a bit I’m hoping, on both sides of the ball. Please Papa Bear in Heaven, intercede on our behalf and give us a decent O-line this year.

    • willbest

      They have Forte.

      • MB30SD

Can you see me shaking from there? 39 yr old rbs aren’t scary

        • willbest

that was my tongue in cheek response.

          • MB30SD

            I know

    • willbest

They also get to play Buffalo twice, who seems to be losing a player a day.

  • willbest

Can’t really argue with the bottom 3. Not really feeling the Panthers repeating their dominant performance and Ravens have Cryptkeeper heading into year 2, that seems like a pretty big handicap. Patriots… have to go without Tom Brady for 4 weeks and their Defense seems middling from what I glimpsed in the preseason. They are still going to win their division but it will probably be at 11-5 or 10-6 instead of 12-4 or 13-3.

I am going to go big and say Oakland, Cardinals, and Redskins.

    • SC Dave

      That’s big alright – Oakland?

      • willbest

They were trending up and added Joseph and Ward to their defense. Denver still has a lot of weapons but repeating total domination on D is a bit rare.

        • MB30SD

Agree, if that d stays healthy they’re going to be beastly

        • And Mack Daddy is gonna go ballistic.

They improved their Oline too. This is the year The Black Hole may come back.

          • MB30SD

            100%

        • MikeBrownhadaPosse

Joseph and Ward – can we have a do-over?

          • No secret I wanted Jospeh over Floyd.

But Bears love their first round “projects”

          • MikeBrownhadaPosse

“oh, mikey, you just like Jihad because he’s an Illini”…”he’s a project, he’ll bust”.

Gumby better do something this year, and Whitehair…well, he’s no Slauson.

          • MikeBrownhadaPosse

Oh, and Jalen Ramsey is proving to be worth every penny too.
            Faaaaaaaaaawk.

    • Sactowns#1

I’m with your first two but not the last. I could see the Panthers coming back but I think the Jets and Bills will shock a lot of people this year.

      • Irish Sweetness

Bills D looks solid, and weren’t they the leading rushers in the NFL last season?

    • Sactowns#1

Pats must have heard you. They just acquired LB Bark Mingo from the Browns.

      • willbest

Bill probably traded his 4th rounder for the Browns 5th, so you know he is only gonna move down about 6 spots.

      • AlbertInTucson

        To replace McClellin?

      • So Pats traded their 5th for Mingo Ate Your Baby?

Good to know what we’re going to get for Floyd in 2018.

You didn’t put AZ in the top 3? I think they take it all if the Bears don’t.

    • Irish Sweetness

Rams back in LA. They might be the team. I didn’t like the way the cherry came off Carson’s cake last season. Case Keenum should get the nod to hand off to Gurley.

But yeah, if Carson’s arm doesn’t fall off, he’s got some nice weapons there … and we’ve got their OL castoffs.

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

Ravens??!! Maybe Jeff knows something that NASA doesn´t.

  • GP portrayed by Eric Roberts

Biggsy was on Mully talking about Commonwealth Edison.

Biggsy’s breakfast consisted of 3 plates of Bob Evans meat lovers sausage and 14 raw eggs broken into a big gulp 64oz cup. He then inserts a whole orange into his mouth, “for balance”.

Anyhow, he said on the show that Edison blew his knee completely up right before the draft. THIS year’s draft. He probably was a 5th or 6th rounder who fell off the board after the injury. I guess he went under the knife right away and Pacebot pulled him in. The work they have been giving him and Larsen’s work makes Biggsy suspect Long might miss a few games.

Also, Khari Lee blew up his shoulder diving for a catch in camp, and they got shit at TE. Braunecker (Harvard kid) didn’t do much, now Housler is hurt and Moeki took most of the Pats snaps and now he’s down too. They extended Miller’s concussion protocol because he thinks they just don’t want him practicing and getting hurt. His glass frame is wearing on the Bears.

    • PaceBot 2000

Khaled Holmes and possibly Solatolu will be starting by week 3.
The Greg Scruggs experiment will now begin at TE.
Lot’s of 3 WR sets and quick throws coming now that teams are going to blitz the fuck out of the Bears.
Good news is that JJ is out for the Texans and they just lost their starting Center so we can also bring the fucking pain on the Ostrich. Put Bullard and Goldman over that backup center for the Texans and commence the molestation.

      • Irish Sweetness

I’m all about the molestation, but if Kyle Long isn’t in there then I just don’t know. There has to be some semblance of talent on that line, and I just don’t see it.

Still, Osweiler plus no center and no JJ Watt … if we’re 5/2 to win that .. happy days.

    • willbest

They got Miller on an affordable deal. I don’t really care. At least Housler looked good.

      • PaceBot 2000

        Housler is hurt.

        • willbest

          dammit!

        • Who needs a 2nd TE when we have Unrein at FB!?

          • SC Dave

By all appearances, Unrein will be getting lenty of reps on the Dline. The day of the two-way player* is long over.

            * FOOTBALL-wise, I mean

          • Was that a Vadgers joke? I like it.

          • Irish Sweetness

He was starting at DE last week wasn’t he?

    • Fuck. We need to sign a petition and find out the REAL reason they let Slauson go.
I refuse to believe our new regime is THAT incompetent. Doesn’t bode well going forward.

TE we’re kinda fucked. I wanted Green, now it looks like he robbbed the Steelers. Fleener is a lilttle bitch, didn’t want him. The other ones got paid like 8M. I was really hoping for Gresham, but can’t fault him for staying on the Cards on a prove it deal to win a ring.

Was hoping Braunkeker would at least show a little something but TE still takes about 3 years to master unless you’re a HOFer.

It’s just a shitty position across the NFL (unless you’re the Pats).

      http://walterfootball.com/freeagents2016TE.php

I still think we can scoop up one of the TEs the Ravens let go (Dennis Pitta maybe?)

      • willbest

        Slauson probably has a knee.

        • SC Dave

Most people have two, so I suppose ‘a’ is a big problem.

      • Bender McLugh

        lolz

      • SC Dave

They’d have to find something true, and scandalous, first. It’s incredible easy with Clinton, and is out there despite the fervent attempts of the most transparent, partisan, obstruction-of-truth press in my lifetime to spin and suppress it.

It’s such a shame that your ideology prevents you from acknowledging it.

        • willbest

I don’t know… Donald Trump donating money to the Clinton’s is pretty damning stuff. If he weren’t actually running against Hillary Clinton that would be enough for me to dump him.

      • Irish Sweetness

I want to see him arrested by Sexual Harassment Panda live on stage.

    • Bender McLugh

it’ll be very very interesting what this new slate of emails uncovers. The AP story of the preferred treatment toward Clinton Foundation donors at State Dept. was all bunk; Julian might have more to that story I would have to think.

      • willbest

You have an odd view of bunk. AP limited their search parameters to weed out anybody there that couldn’t have been on official business. They didn’t include foreign dignitaries and government employees because there is no good way of knowing for sure why they were there unless you get all the documentation the that visit which the State department has been stonewalling on (AP began the FOIA requests in 2010 and here we are 6 years later and the State department still hasn’t complied).

So of the people she met with that they can prove weren’t there on official business, over half of them were Foundation donors, several of whom we know to have received favors from the State department.

And on that, what the shit is with our government not honoring FOIA requests. Quite frankly, if it gets to the lawsuit phase and the Federal Agency loses then the bureaucrat responsible should spend a day in jail for every day delayed in honoring the request. And not in one of those country club prisons.

    • Cormonster

I watched the movie Clinton Cash. There’s some pretty damning evidence in it and I haven’t seen any stories negating the claims made in the movie. I think it’s worth a watch for anyone interested.

  • MB30SD
  • 505Bears

Game 3 is the one where the starters usually play quite a bit. Do the Bears really put Cutler behind a 3rd string C, rookie guard and whatever other makeshift line they come up with against KC’s starters? Sounds like trouble to me.

    • They HAVE to put Cutty behind that Oline, cuz that’s the only Oline they have. Cutty might as well start breaking in his running cleats.

Only thing that could save us is a strong run game to drain the clock and opposing Dline with a healthy bootleg and screen game. At least until Long returns, or that Oline gels. Then they can open it up a bit.

But if we only have ONE TE, that might be enough if we use a FB.

Bears can’t handle two injuries at Oline though.

      • Irish Sweetness

        Will Montgomery. Slauson. Grasu.

Criminals use guns, and I would not advocate banning guns in that basis. Same applies here.

Principles trump even Hillary-level individual abuse. After all, we don’t HAVE to elect that piece of shit.

      • MB30SD

Trump… I see what you did there.

So you’re advocating electing the oooother piece of shit then. Choices choices dave

        • SC Dave

No, I’m voting for Gary Johnson most likely. Or maybe writing in someone like Larry Elder or Rand Paul.

Now, if I lived in Ohio or Florida where my vote might matter, I’d have to vomit a bit in my mouth and vote for the buffoon over the felon.

          Or not… definitely not.

    • willbest

But Trump is Hitler x2. Gotta stop Hitler. I was happy to learn today from Hillary’s own mouth that W and McCain are both not Hitler. But not Romney. Romney is still Hitler because it takes 8 years for a GOP figurehead to go from Hitler to upstanding member of society that happens to be in the Republican party in the eyes of Democrats.

Powell though is probably back to being Hitler even though he has been dumping on Republicans since 2004. The Empress tried to scapegoat him and he didn’t fall on that grenade for her. Bad black man, bad.

      • BearDown100393

If Trump were Caitlyn her name would be Hillary. Or maybe vice versa.

    • AlbertInTucson

She needed a step stool to climb into her ride today. When she moves, one her handlers is right there probably because they’re afraid she could fall down at anytime.

Theory: She really needs a cane to walk steadily but, of course, there’s no way she can be seen in public walking with a cane.

      • The next FDR!

        • AlbertInTucson

So Vegas is making the push for the Raiders.

    https://twitter.com/RindelsAP/status/768831542781026304

I can’t see vegas being a good place for an NFL team. It would no doubt fill its stadium, but not with real fans of the team. Its likely to have a fair number of just NFL fans and other fan bases traveling there on long weekends. I suppose that is why the Hotels in the area support a hotel tax to finance the thing. But from a franchise building standpoint its a nightmare, plus your players are going to be exceptionally prone to stupidity there.

    Thayer needs new schtick

  • Well, at least we’re not the only ones ailing at Oline.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Texans second-round C Nick Martin will miss the season after undergoing ankle surgery.

ESPN reports Martin is expected to miss at least four
months, which would essentially rule him out for all of the regular
season. It is possible he returns late in the year for a playoff push.
Martin suffered what was called a high-ankle sprain last week, but it is
clear the injury was more severe than initially reported. With Martin
expected to serve as the starting center as a rookie, the Texans will
now turn to undrafted sophomore Greg Mancz. – Roto

    • AlbertInTucson

AND, I believe, one of their guards is ailing.

Thought I heard Watt returned to practice, too.

      • Yeah, I know we Bears fans bemoan our Oline and TE situation, but misery loves company.

Around the league, most every team is hurting.

We’re bitching about starting a 2nd rd pick. At least we’re not starting an undrafted FA backup and possibly another backup.

Still. Be nice to have depth.

Good, pound his back into dust. Double teams right at him until he crumbles.
Put unrein right down his throat.

  • CanadaBear

I’m actually really hyped about Goldman and Hicks. Hicks will be a badass, maybe not great but he certainly has played well as a pro. Golman’s lost about 30 lbs but he’s still tipping the Toledo’s at 330. From what I read he always ate a lot of junkfood and crapola. Somebody got through to him and he’s fueling the furnace properly and that can’t help but improve performance. I know this is weird but I saw all of his games so he can do no wrong, when Butkus announced his name at the draft he was genuinely excited and thought the kid was a baller. I’ve always had high hopes for him just because of that.

    • We’re on the same wavelength, Canada. Just ran across this.

Bears NT Eddie Goldman said he feels “faster” this season.

Goldman lost some weight this offseason, and he thinks it has translated to the field. “I didn’t play a full game yet so I can’t really judge myself,” Goldman said. “But I can tell you that I feel faster, quicker.” After a strong rookie season, the Bears are counting on Goldman to anchor their run defense. – Roto

There is already lighter mellower whiskey its called “on the rocks”. I am going to call BS on its “harder” to make. If you don’t have to age it as long its going to be cheaper to make.

    • SC Dave

Substanceless whiskey for the Twitter generation.

    • PaceBot 2000

      Pussy whiskey

    • That Guy

As a bourbon man i don’t really understand the attraction. But I can’t really complain about people drinking the “wrong” whiskey. Whatever tastes good I guess.

Then again, if whiskey is too bold for you… there’s ice, there’s mixed drinks and, frankly, there’s wine.

But what I don’t get is this notion that only young people are avoiding harsh flavors. The best whiskeys are universally described as “smooth” which is a euphamism for “not too harsh.” But whatever… marketing.

      • willbest

They can find another name for it.

  • That Guy

    NBIT sighting!

Haven’t been around much, probably won’t be around for a few more weeks. Things are crazy for me, but life is good. Still, I don’t want to miss out on all the fun so…

1 – I will reiterate again. If the league wants more revenue from meaningful games, go to a seventeen game schedule with an extra buy week. You get 19 weeks of football plus 16 games ready made for neutral fields. Eliminate one preseason game and you’ve got no extra mileage on the players.

2 – Anyone deciding between Trump and Hillary and unhappy with both… take a serious look at Gary Johnson. Not perfect by a long-shot, but a legitimately good mayor who will make balancing the budget a priority. More importantly, tell pollsters you support him (even if you won’t vote for him in November) so that he can get on the debate stage. We really need some fresh discussion and Trump/Hillary will be terrible without a wildcard.

3 – Butch or someone, is there fantasy football happening?

4 – Going to the Eagles MNF game. Serious question – take the car and tailgate or skip it and Uber?

    5 – Rodgers?

      1. Sounds reasonable

      2. Anyone but those two. I’m voting for Kelly Slater (Google him)

      3. Yes, read down… or last thread maybe

      4. Nice! Watch out for snowballs with rocks. Definitely uber.

      5. D.E.A.D.

Nice to have you back NB, even if fleetingly

Punk. I looked up Kelly Slater – is he like a non-artistic Jack Johnson?

      ‘Sup NBIT!

I believe there is “No rolling on Shabbos”-friendly auction draft happening.

Johnson seems like a reasonable choice I I feel like a for for him is a for for HC.

  • EnderWiggin

Hopefully, Cornelius Edison will be the Hroniss Grasu we always wanted.

Man, Russell Wilson is a stud. The touch on some of those passes, the ability, the awareness … great to watch.

If J-Webb is at LT he’ll need eyes in the back of his head.

    • Big Mike

Just shows how thin the talent is out there. The Seahawks signed him to a 2 year deal with $2.4 million guaranteed in year 1.

  • I did a double take when you mentioned the Ravens as a top 3 team. What am I missing? Who is going to excel for them offensively?
