Bears Offensive Coordinator Adam Gase To Be Named Dolphins Head Coach

| January 9th, 2016

Screen Shot 2015-10-12 at 10.04.56 AM

UPDATE 11:44 AM ET: Gase is now officially the Dolphins head coach. He’ll be formally announced at a 3 PM press conference.

Adam Gase is set to be named the new head coach of the Miami Dolphins and the Bears will now looking for a new offensive coordinator. Will it be the logical, in-house promotion of Dowell Loggains or a Foxy favorite like Ken Whisenhunt?

Many options are available to the Bears but remember one thing: very little will change. John Fox knows what offense he wants to run. The Bears ran it in 2015. They will run it in 2016.

My preference is to promote from within.

    • AlbertInTucson

Pretty much a given that they just promote Loggains….?

      • Trac

I’d be surprised if the don’t. But again, I get surprised quite often.

      • Irish Sweetness

Didn’t we read that? POX said – in the presser I think – that no matter what happened the offense wouldn’t change. Gase preferred it a little more vertical, Loggains is more West Coast. One good thing is that the play-calling will be different, and hopefully Cutty gets more control of what is called – I like that. Do you want someone telling the surgeon what to do, or do you just want a surgeon who knows what he’s doing, and wants to be let at it?

Goodbye, Mr. Gase, you were … predictable.

        • willbest

I think if Trestmen has shown us anything, it is that Cutty is at his best when he doesn’t have more control.

  • willbest

Oh maybe Jim Bob Cooter will be available.

    • DaMurph

      Ive always liked cooter!

  • AlbertInTucson

Adam will “Gaze” upon the Dolphins next season.

  • BerwynBomber

That didn’t take long. Good luck to him. Did a fine job his one year here.

  • DaMurph

Im not concerned, Seems like Fox knows what he wants and what people can accomplish it. I have faith he will put the right man for the job in that position.

    • MB30SD

Btw, where do y’alls stand on the cut of a woman’s jib?

on the completely-shorn to disco-bush spectrum? Which do you prefer and why? My tastes have changed over the last 3 years.

          • DaMurph

I like a little fuzz on my peach. If she wants to get artistic too thats fine. I like the 5 O’clock shadow vibe!

          • MB30SD

I used to only like totally shaved, now I think k it’s all hot. Even disco bush is retro and hot. Of I’m seeing it, it means I’m into that chick so it’s all hot.

          • Trac

Hahaha. The funny part is that I can actually picture MB whispering into your ear. Yuuuk. Hahahaha

          • DaMurph

He has, and its usually like this…..”holy shit, look at those tits”

          • MB30SD

I have about ZERO patience. I watched the first maybe 10 seconds then couldn’t take any more of that shit… at the end does she yell the fuck out of something?

          • Trac

            I don’t know, didn’t watch it hahaha

            Ask Murph.

          • DaMurph

            yeah right, you watched it!

          • Trac

            1 min.

    • Trac

Yeah. Remember that just last week Cutty mentioned that the Bears have a plan in place if Gase left. It’s very likely the Bears are going to promote Loggains.

  • BillW

Good for Adam Gase. Only 37. Let’s see. He’ll be fired in 3 to 5 years though not his fault. Will get another chance since well, it’s the Dolphins. Maybe Fox retires by then and he is proudly wearing my avatar as head of the original NFL franchise in time for the centennial

    I like it.

    • Johnnywad

I don’t. Outside of Cutler’s marked pocket awareness, what did he achieve? The offense was supposed to be the far stronger unit based on personnel. It wasn’t.

      • willbest

Based on what personnel? Going from BMarsh, Jeffery, Bennett, Forte to Mariani, Bellamy, TE I don’t even remember the name of, and Forte?

        • Johnnywad

          You don remember Zach Miller?

Are you suggesting the talent on the defensive side of the ball for the balance of the season was equal to that of the defensive side of the ball?

Alshon played half of the games. Forte and Bennett played most of them. Zach Miller turned out to be pretty damn good. Langford, also very good. Even when these guys were healthy, the Bears offense was pretty damn average.

The defense on the other hand, also pretty damn average, but with a bunch of nobodies. We were all excited to see a practice squad guy take over the last few games at MLB because our starter sucks so bad. When Kyle Fuller is yout best corner and Chris Prosinski is making plays for you at corner, and my fifteen year old is talking about Harold Jones-Quortey or whatever his name is, making plays, somebody is coaching the shit out of the D.

Gase impressed me via Cutler’s marked improvement. That’s where my praise for him stops though. I already don’t miss him.

          • BillW

My “I like it” was based on the premise that Gase turns into a decent head coach but is fired through no fault of his but the organization

I’m really anticipating the Bears centennial in 2020. It’s going to be a huge deal. I sure hope we are in the sb conversation by then

          • Irish Sweetness

            I have to agree.
I saw a stretch of a half of football where I thought “Wow, I like the play-calling mix here, this looks good. Smart plays.” That was out of 16 games.

As time was running out towards the end of halves, I found myself calling the plays. He was getting BJs from fans for using Unrein in the I-formation. Bill Walsh started doing that, Ditka copied him, and then for whatever reason, it fell out of fashion. At least 30% of any offense should be spent in I-formation. At least. It doesn’t tip your hand between pass or run. It forces the defense to make a decision. If the defense doesn’t stack the line, you pound it right at them until they do … at which point you call play-action and target the vacated area that has committed to the run. Football isn’t hard, but a lot of these millionaire OCs pretend it is and over-analyse, call some gimmicky formation that just confuses the guys who don’t know their play-books inside out.

I just want to see simple, smart football, executed well, by the best players we can put out there. I wouldn’t swap Fox for anybody, he’s been there and done that. Loved our last draft, and free agents, and I’m sure we’ll have a much better roster net season. Can’t wait.

          • Johnnywad

Speaking of gimmicks…..let’s go ahead and retire the Wildcat. I don’t care to see another Bears RB take a shotgun snap himself. It’s a shit play.

          • MB30SD

Look at you?! The bear’s first Irish living in Thailand for OC I say!!

          • SC Dave

Fuckin on, Irish. EXECUTION is the essence of the game. Making it easier to execute by working with the strengths and talents of the roster is the essence of coaching.

          • MB30SD

            Kind of have to agree

          • Johnnywad

Not saying I would have fired the guy. He was not bad at his job. We’ve seen what that looks like. But I feel the right hire might just get this thing really clicking. This feels like a real opportunity for the Bears to grow under Fox to me.

          • MB30SD

            agree

          • DaMurph

{whispering in your ear} ME TOO!

          • SC Dave

Fangio is the guy, though I think people wil forget too soon the fact that Cutler got much less stupid/reckless once Gase showed up.

  • Shady

    RIP Otis Clay.

  • BillW

Based on pft fan reaction (a very poor sample I’m sure) the fins fans seem mixed to negative on the hire. With others wondering why Gase didn’t wait out the Giants. (Bird in the hand I suspect)

    • willbest

Giants are a mess outside of ODB and Eli has 3-4 years left in him. New York seems like a really tough market to coach in and you are going to be succeeding a future HoF coach who delivered 2 Super Bowl Championship in the last decade.

Meanwhile, in Miami you have playmakers everywhere if you can fix the culture problem. And If you can fix Tannehill you have a QB for a decade. Plus Brady/Bill are probably out of NE in 2 years anyway. What’s more is Gase has spent 6 of the last 7 years in the AFC so he has more experience with the AFC. Yes he spent his first 6 years working in the NFC but those were at lower positional/scouting levels and things change in a decade plus.

Want a bonus? Florida doesn’t have an income tax, NY caps out at 8.82% and NJ at 8.97%.

      • Irish Sweetness

They beat New England fair and square, good luck to the Dolphins.

  • willbest

What would have been nice about Gase with the Giants is we could have the whole Fox-Gase coach off next year. Now it will have to wait until 2018 unless it happens in the Super Bowl

  • BillW

So the consensus is “Thanks Adam. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out. Oh wait. You forgot to take the bubble screen with you”

I wanted to see what he could do with a full arsenal. But his leaving seemed inevitable. I certainly trust Fox and he obviously knows his next step(s) already.

    • Johnnywad

I think the fact that there are only about 50 posts on here several hours after Jeff put his piece up, says it all.

    • BerwynBomber

You know who else threw a ton of WR screens this year? GB. And save Cutty’s pick six against SF, GB’s looked less effective than ours. I’m guessing the negative reasons for an over-abundance of WR screens is because a) your pass protection stinks (GB), b) your WRs are inferior (CHI — short of Jeffrey/Royal), c) your wideouts have trouble creating downfield separation (GB and CHI), or d) one of your WRs has a season-long case of the dropsies (GB — Adams).

My view on Gase was that he improved Cutler’s ball security and pocket movement. And those things were pretty damn huge considering the pre-Gase years of Cutty. Can Cutty continue them w/out Gase? One would think so. Will Fox hire a decent OC replacement? Again, one would think so. Seems a pretty professional outfit right now.

  • MB30SD

HOU will draft a QB in the first two rounds of the draft. O’Brien is probably eyeing his former PSU QB Hackenberg. Or maybe they try to move up.

    • BearDown100393

Johnny Football’s available. Big Tex loves him.

    • Johnnywad

I heard a year ago Hackenberg migh actually be a real NFL quarterback based on measurables and pro style offense. I haven’t seen a single snap. Is he any good?

      • burntorangenavyblue

I’ll be your bitch if you do…..

      • willbest

No, I want it to roll over and then win it. It will give me enough to put in a solid bid on the Bears.

        • burntorangenavyblue

Ha! And then you move the team to Gary. With a new stadium?

Whaaat? All the other teams are doing it, it’s the cool thing to do!

          • willbest

Nah, but probably would move it out to Arlington Heights or some such. They are going to replace the corrupt pragmatist with a marxist and Chicago will be on the express train to Detroit.

          • burntorangenavyblue

Indiana taxes are ridiculously low. The burbs of Chicago, not so much. If the NY teams did what they did, don’t see why the Bears wouldn’t attempt to look to the Indiana side for a new stadium

          • burntorangenavyblue

Why did NY teams go to New Jersey? Taxes?

          • Johnnywad

They don’t own the stadium as it is

        • burntorangenavyblue

You’d get a solid bid, but you’d barely have enough left over for collateral and capital just in case shit hit the fan, or Sears tower

          • burntorangenavyblue

Or you could always make good money backing and investing the Star Wars museum

        • Johnnywad

Not after taxes. You’d have to buy the Jags or Browns

          • willbest

A 2 billion pot would generate about 800 million post tax. Borrow another 1.2 from Goldman Sachs and then flip a 30% share to another billionaire to solve cashflow.

Jeff, how well connected is Toub in the NFL? Seems most other guys get looked at because of who they worked under and such.

    • That Guy

I think he’s stunted a bit because he’s a special teams coach. There are some ST guys that have found success, but typically teams that hire coordinators will hire an “offensive genious” or a “defensive minded guy” to try and secure one side of the ball. Not too many teams making a hire to ensure they clean up their punt returns.

This doesn’t sound like it will end well. I’m sure Gase is a great guy and a good coach, but the Dolphins are giving him too much too fast. He needs a strong GM to balance him out. I’m concerned Gase will flame out the way Josh McDaniels flamed out.

    Big Ben clocked.

  • Doc Nitty

New England’s road just got easier.

    • willbest

They get KC or cincynext week

      • Doc Nitty

        I just realized that.

    • Shady

We can basically pencil in DEN and NE in the AFCCG.

      • BerwynBomber

SMH. I hate injuries. Even if they happen to our rivals.

The fact that KC may not have Maclin next week or PIT could be w/out R-berger sucks ass.

      • willbest

Is Edelman back? I think KC can take NE without Edelman-gronk

        • wreckinball

          Agree think KC could win

        • Irish Sweetness

Easily – Pats couldn’t beat Miami last week.

          • Shady

Where’s Barb when you need her?

          • BerwynBomber

She’s wallowing in the possibility of a fifth title.

        • BerwynBomber

Is Gronk out? Thought he was completely recovered from a few weeks back.

    • Irish Sweetness

      KC will kick their asses.

  • Irish Sweetness

If I was Tomlin, I would have taken Big Ben out injury or no. Game’s getting nasty.
Domestic disturbance thru the roof in Cincy tonight.

  • Irish Sweetness

Where the hell is Mike Vick??

Landry Jones in the playoffs. Good grief.

    (rips up ticket)

Then again, the Steelers were running it okay tonight.

  • Irish Sweetness

Tomlin’s penchant for 2 pointers has the Bengal’s within one score now. SMH.

    • wreckinball

He’s does this dumb shit all the time

    • BerwynBomber

Tomlin ALWAYS chases points too early. ALWAYS.

      • Irish Sweetness

This is the playoffs. WTF was he thinking?

        • BerwynBomber

I swear he did it in his very first playoff game against JAX and David Garrard like seven or eight years ago. It bit him in the ass then too but he still hasn’t learned his lesson.

Thing is too, this 3rd string kicker they picked up early in the year has been a rock. So Tomlin doesn’t even have that excuse for such nonsense.

  • Irish Sweetness

    Just be you McCarron.

  • Shady

Why kick the FG? You need a TD either way.

  • Irish Sweetness

Oh Ben you big beautiful bastard. Welcome back.

  • Shady

    ha-YUGE 3rd down.

    • Shady

Cincy gets the stop, NOW are they in 4 down territory?

  • Irish Sweetness

What a dumb playcall with 3rd and 4, 4 minutes left.

  • Irish Sweetness

I’ve got a bad feeling about this.

    • Shady

      What did you wager?

  • wreckinball

    McCarron LOL

  • Irish Sweetness

They’ll go for two and get it too.

  • Doc Nitty

No fucking way. Nicely done McGrossman.

  • Irish Sweetness

    Come on Ben.

  • Irish Sweetness

    Do NOT send Jones in.

  • Doc Nitty

As soon as that Bengal got knocked the fuck out, the Bengals have been ballin out.

  • Shady

    Burfict. Your guy Irish.

  • BearDown100393

Because everyone runs back to their own end zone.

  • Irish Sweetness

    Not over yet.

  • Irish Sweetness

    Told ya.

  • Shady

    Wow. What is going on?

  • BerwynBomber

The second half of this game got mad interesting after a snooze of a first half.

  • willbest

I know it will come as a shock to people here, but my dream of owning the Bears will have to wait.

    • BearDown100393

At least until the end of this game.

  • Shady

One time Landry Jones, one time! haha

    • Shady

      It’s BEN! But HOW!?!?

      • Shady

Can’t seem to throw it downfield.

  • wreckinball

    Bungles!

  • Irish Sweetness

    Martavis time.

  • Irish Sweetness

What a terrible fucking call. A DRAW ????

  • Shady

Where’s Antwaan Randle El when you need him?

  • BearDown100393

I guess it is a sign of toughness for coaches to stand in a pouring January rain wearing cotton NFL hoodies.

  • Shady

    Burfict strikes again. Fuck.

  • BearDown100393

    So stupid.

  • BearDown100393

Pride of the Bengals. Fighting among themselves, officials and coaches.

  • willbest

    Wow…

  • Doc Nitty

Wow. Done in by Burfict and Pac Man. What a crazy fourth quarter.

    • BearDown100393

Garbage organization. Tolerated by a garbage coaching staff.

    • Irish Sweetness

Crazy game. I fucking love football.

  • Irish Sweetness

Can we get this thing up on the goal line just to be sure?

    • willbest

Was a bs hit on brown

  • Irish Sweetness

They didn’t deserve to win anyway.

    • BearDown100393

      Dumpster on fire.

  • Shady

Marvin Lewis can’t survive this, can he?

Who am I kidding, of course he survives this.

    • Huge Bear’s Penis

i was thinking the same thing. got to have control over your team.

    • BearDown100393

It is Cincinnati. He’ll probably get a contract extension from the Department of Corrections.

  • burntorangenavyblue

Lewis is gone tonight. Every year, lack of discipline kills the Bengals. Wowie oh wowo

  • Irish Sweetness

This is what you get for hiring guys like Burfict and Pacman. Playoff death.

  • BearDown100393

    Marvin’s Crips lose.

  • Irish Sweetness

    SWEET !!

    (winks at heaven)

    Thanks Pops.

Thoughts go out to all the women that will get beaten in Cincinatti tonight.

  • Irish Sweetness

    What a game.

  • burntorangenavyblue

It is ABSOLUTELY THE HEAD COACH’S JOB to run in there and kick your foot up the players ass to get them out of the shit storm so you don’t lose the game. Lewis? HE GONE!

  • BerwynBomber

    Just desserts for Burfect.

Hope R-Berger and Brown are good for next week. I sense Big Ben will give it a go. Brown looked like he could have been killed. Could be a two or three week concussion.

  • willbest

Brown won’t have a concussion and the independent doctor will have a Ferrari. Lol they pulled big Ben from the interview I bet he is on something trippy

    • burntorangenavyblue

Lowering your helmet on a defenseless reciever is still not legal and that hit still looked like it hurt. The defender still had a moment to see that the ball was thrown high and not caught. Lack of discipline

      • willbest

No doubt. Cheap as hell. But this isn’t the time of year when players have concussions

      • Shady

Technically Burfict hit him with his shoulder, but it was a violent shot to Brown’s head.

        • burntorangenavyblue

Helmet still made contact and it was lowered

        • AlbertInTucson

Helmet, shoulder, whaterever. if you target the head they are going to nail your hide to the barn door, ESPECIALLY if you are wearing #55 for Cincy.

          • burntorangenavyblue

Lowering your body to make the hit on a defenseless receiver in general, especially when it wasn’t your play to make in that situation will be called

          • Shady

Looked like Brown was lucky to get up at all after that one.

          • BerwynBomber

Yeah, that was violent as hell looking in slow-mo. Like a dummy crash meant to scare in driver’s Ed.

  • wreckinball

    A pathetic franchise tops themselves
They officially need to change their name to the bungles

  • Irish Sweetness

Take the points next week boys!

  • AlbertInTucson

Stupidity thy name is Vontez Burfect.

THIS kind of crap is EXACTLY why the guy fell from a potential first round pick to completely OUT of the draft.

    • Shady

Jones’ penalty was the worst of the two.

      • BerwynBomber

Nah, that was just the icing. It was Burfect cheap shot that lost them the game.

        • willbest

Kick didn’t have another 15 yards on it

          • BerwynBomber

They had plenty of time to run another play, even two, and spike the ball. Plus, you don’t know what type of leg he was putting into the 38 yarder. Different circumstances.

          • willbest

They had 18 seconds a spike takes 15-16

          • BerwynBomber

Not if the first play gets out of bounds.

Plus, again, you don’t know what his kick would have been like from 53. (Even if they had to kick it from there.)

Sorry but Burfect is the bigger goat.

          • burntorangenavyblue

Isn’t Benburger known for his last drive heroics?

          • BerwynBomber

Yup. And his bum right shoulder will add to that mystique.

          • burntorangenavyblue

He hurt it in a bathroom or something?

        • Shady

At least it was a football play. A horribly dirty play, but still a football play. For Pacman to get a 15 harder after the play? That’s a special kind of stupid right there.

          • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

Agreed, but would love to know how much shit “coach” Joey Porter was doing. Wtf is he even doing out there? Former steeler,…….

hill fumble was brutal as well

          • DaMurph

Porter should have been flagged for being out there instigating shit

          • burntorangenavyblue

Players and coaches talk shit all the time. An official will never flag a coach over words to other coaches or player. Everyone needs to know it’s the physical contact that really matters. People say that the coach shouldn’t have been on the field. Umm, whenever a player gets seriously hurt, there are always a bunch of people on the field surrounding the hurt player or just milling about. Or how about players that take a knee as a team while on the field? Unless there’s an actual rule about players and personnel’s presence on the field is illegal, I don’t see how anyone would actually be angry at a coach for “shit talking” to be an excuse to get angry and draw a penalty.

          • DaMurph

I believe its a penalty for an assistant to be on the field. Hes not any coach . he was a shit talking linebacker for the Steelers. The head coach and trainers are allowed for injury, no assistant coaches.

          • burntorangenavyblue

Has that truly ever been enforced, just curious. I think it has to do with between plays, not when there’s an official timeout due to a player injury. Because there are a lot of times when coaches that go onto the field to check on an injured player. Besides…giving in to shit talking? No excuse

          • BerwynBomber

Was it? Would have to see the replay but it sure looked like Burfect lauched at him already knowing it was an incompletion. Looked late but would have to see it again.

    • Irish Sweetness

Yup. He’ll win you games, then lose you the playoffs.

      Like Peyton Manning.

      BOOM!

  • Irish Sweetness

It’s going off on NFL Network right now. Neon and LT!!

    • Shady

      Dion is an idiot.

      • BearDown100393

Jesus saves. Give Neon a discount.

  • Irish Sweetness

    Marvin in the presser.

    (opens popcorn)

    • burntorangenavyblue

I’m shocked they are letting him talk. What could he have to say? Buh bye

      • Irish Sweetness

He said Burfict was trying to make a play.

        (stuffs popcorn in mouth)

        • AlbertInTucson

Burfect was trying to exact revenge and you don’t need to be Freud to have seen it.

      • BearDown100393

Cleveland on Line 1. Eagles on 2.

        • burntorangenavyblue

No way Eagles would take him

          • AlbertInTucson

I would think Cleveland should be mightily interested in Hue Jackson.

          • willbest

But would he be interested in Cleveland, they have fired 3 coaches in the last 3 years

          • AlbertInTucson

And there ARE other options still open.

          • BearDown100393

            Detroit.

          • AlbertInTucson

Think Quinn might want to raid the NE staff he just left behind?

          • burntorangenavyblue

Pats will tell him no, it’s in their rights to do so

          • BerwynBomber

I would not be shocked if he does the Emery/Lovie thing with Caldwell: give him another year (with a big goal) and then look for his own guy once Caldwell falls short.

  • Irish Sweetness

I wish we could lose 8 straight playoff games.

  • Irish Sweetness

    (repeatedly)
    Lewis: Anything else
    (instant question)

    • AlbertInTucson

They already have a supposedly “In demand’ candidate on the staff in Hue Jackson.

  • AlbertInTucson

Would it make any sense to show Lewis the door and just promote Hue Jackson?

    • willbest

      Lewis needs to go.

      • BearDown100393

Or convince the brass to bring aboard soon to be available Greg Hardy and really give the home crowd a thrill.

        • burntorangenavyblue

Or also add the Hardy bros from WWE, cuz you know, more insanity and big hits. Now I am delusional

  • burntorangenavyblue

Lovie and Tressie in Cincy, book it! I keed I keed

    • BearDown100393

bend but don’t break defense shall also apply to the opposing offense’s spines.

  • burntorangenavyblue

Lewis will not be hired to any teams with discipline/locker room problems, it would make no sense after tonight

    • BearDown100393

Exactly. Which is why Cleveland will hire him. With a 10 year contract.

    • BerwynBomber

Agreed. And that’s been a “culture” with his Cincy teams for some time.

      • burntorangenavyblue

Detroit? No. Philly? No. Browns? Heck no.

  • Scharfinator

Dolphins gambled with this one. I guess time will tell if it was worth it.

  • burntorangenavyblue

I’m still in shock that the head coach just simply did not run onto the field and yank on the players causing problems and pulled them out. It’s the playoffs! Anything that looks like it is going wrong while you stand there, will! It’s your job to intervene!

  • BerwynBomber

One semi-relieved Bengal? Jeremy Hill. Jones and especially Burfect’s penalties dimmed the spotlight on Hill’s fumble.

    • DaMurph

Just a little though. why did he fight for yardage? Fall the fuck down, just fall the fuck down!!!

  • Scharfinator

Goodness, the Texans would be soooo good with a real QB.

    • willbest

Which is why its nuts to think they wouldn’t have paid at least a pair of seconds for Cutler

      • Scharfinator

Is that what we offered them?

Yes, that was brain dead of them, if so.

        • willbest

No, people on this forum a 11 months ago wanted to get rid of him for a 4th

  • wreckinball

Deon and LT going at it
I think that Burgect deserved the call
I thought the call on Pac man was weak

    • Shady

Deion Sanders is a fucking idiot.

      • burntorangenavyblue

        What’s happening?

        • Shady

He’s trying to defend Burfict’s hit. Saying he tried to pull up an not hit Brown when it’s clear the opposite was the case.

          • burntorangenavyblue

Oh geez. The fact that Burfict had a moment or two to either slow down or change directions to minimize or avoid contact will always be in favor of the refs calling it against the defenders

          • DaMurph

I wont argue they all hate each other so chances are he cracked him on purpose, but the speed of the game we can never know the intention. Shit I walk through a grocery store and try to dodge another person and we end up knocking into each other. I think the no call on the Bengal running back because he turned first was what set this all in motion.

          • MB30SD

Yeah, but you’re fucking old and your reflexes are shot.

            Hahahahaha! !

          • DaMurph

            Yeahhhhhhhhhh, you got a point!

      • Irish Sweetness

Certainly is – he didn’t give play of the day to Martavis’ catch of the millennium. Gave it to Davis for running 106 yards in a straight line. Kickoffs get returned all the time. What Bryant did has never been done before.

        • Shady

Yeah the somersault thing was fucking ridiculous.

    • Irish Sweetness

What i couldn’t understand about their argument was … it was a penalty either way, no? They were arguing the helmet part. But it was a defenceless receiver either way, and the flag has to come out.

    • BerwynBomber

Yeah, I’m no Pacman fan and he is obviously an idiot and should have know better … BUT … I wonder if the ref shouldn’t have kept the laundry in his pocket there.

Burfect? No excuse. And he has always been dirty.

  • Irish Sweetness

Its a shame all of the nastiness will overshadow the greatest touchdown reception I’ve ever seen.
OBJ my ass – we have a clear winner.

    • Shady

Yeah the somersault TD catch was fucking ridiculous. But here’s the thing, he could have just caught it to begin with. Bryant wouldn’t have made that ridiculous grab if there wasn’t a slight bobble at the beginning of the catch.

      ODB had the perfect catch.

      • Irish Sweetness

But the fact he didn’t catch it first time … made it an amazing catch because of what happened afterwards with the somersault. In fact, OBJ’s wasn’t even the best before that, for me. There were a few others I would have put before that. I was surprised by all the furor over OBJ’s – he just reached up and grabbed a ball. There isn’t even a link on NFL.COM that mention’s Bryant’s. Nothing like that has ever happened before

        • MB30SD

          I’m mb30sd’s baffled amazement

    • BerwynBomber

Hah! That? He should have caught it high. Nice save, of course. But he kinda blew the initial catch which is why he had to trap it against the back of his thigh.

No thanks — in terms of the greatest TD catch ever. Seen hundreds better. Impressive save, though.

      • Irish Sweetness

Greatest TD catch ever? That’s hard to judge, but it is the best I’ve ever seen. Better than OBJ’s for me. It was insane

        • MB30SD

That’s a big statement, and I’d fathom the vast majority of people would disagree. I really didn’t see what the fuss was about

As my daughter likes to say lately, “(narrows eyes with a shit eating grin) I’m suspicious of you irish”

  • Irish Sweetness

Didn’t realize her life had been that tough. Wow.

    R.I.P. Natalie Cole.

    • Trac

Before reading that I would have bet the house she had to have been sexually abused. The fastest way to destroy a child’s innocence is through sexual immorality. Welcome to show business.

      • MB30SD

child molesters should be executed on the spot since that’s exactly what they do to a child’s life. Vile filth

        • Trac

Brutal consequences to a child’s life and family members when this happens. Some obvious symptoms but a lot of covert symptoms imo.

          • MB30SD

Kill. Them. They can’t be fixed.

        • willbest

They can be in Texas read a story where a dad caught somebody diddling his daughter and killed him. Police didn’t even arrest him as a precaution

          • MB30SD

Texas does some stuff right man.

            How’s that track.

Btw, I hate that saying makes me sick to my stomach.

  • Shady

1.3 billion?!? You gotta be shitting me. Millions of people who tore up thier tickets cursing to themselves, swearing never to play the lottery again will go right back to the gas station to throw thier money away again tomorrow.

    • Trac

I love seeing people paying their taxes.

      • willbest

To put that in perspective, in the 3 days that people voluntarily handed the lotto commission 500 million in taxes just the federal government forced Americans to give up 21 billion

    • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

1.3 Billion? you gotta buy one ticket.

  • Shady

Ryan Shazier made a hell of a play stripping that ball from Jeremy Hill, something we’ve seen from more than a few Bears over the years.

To recap the 2014 draft one more time:

    12. New York Giants – Odell Beckham, Jr. †WR LSU
    13. St. Louis Rams – Aaron Donald †DT Pittsburgh
    14. Chicago Bears – Kyle Fuller CB Virginia Tech
    15. Pittsburgh Steelers – Ryan Shazier LB Ohio State
    16. Dallas Cowboys – Zack Martin †G Notre Dame
    17. Baltimore Ravens – C. J. Mosley †LB Alabama

    †- pro bowler

    • MB30SD

      Sigh

    • Irish Sweetness

Shazier, Martin and Mosley wouldn’t have made good corners.

Was someone taken after Kyle who was better that we could have taken later?

Jason Verrett ; Bradley Roby ; Keith McGill (6’3!) ; Bashaud Breeland ; Stanley Jean-Baptiste (6’3) ; Dontae Johnson; Philip Gaines

      • MB30SD

Verrett was san diego’s best football player after rivers and weddle. Dude is the real deal.. as we saw (before he got hurt)

    • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

how do you make that Probowl symbol? i want to use that symbol more often to signify pro-bowl mvp comments.

      • MB30SD

His handle is shadynuggets…. he has his ways.

And I want to use it to demarcate exceptional breasts

  • Irish Sweetness

Wow. Vegas being generous. KC are 5 point dogs next week. Pittsburgh are 5.5 point dogs.

    • DaBearsBlog

Surprised they even have a line on Pitt. I’m going for my first playoff weekend parlay sweep today. Been trying to hit one for 15 years.

      • Trac

Wait….yesterday you predicted the Steelers would lose. Hmm… how many parlay scenerio’s did you buy?

        • DaBearsBlog

I had points. Who bets money line parlays?

The real question will be if I hedge the Packers should Seattle cover.

          • Trac

Aah, the game within the game. That’s why I don’t gamble, it’s hard enough predicting the games outright winners and losers.

          • DaBearsBlog

I also had money on Bengals to win outright which I can’t believe I fucking lost.

          • DaMurph

Neither can the rest of the country except for Steeler fans

          • MB30SD

Yes you can. Last night was so perfectly bungles. What I can’t believe is that you picked them to win a playoff game

          • The GP

i wish to vote this up a lot

          • MB30SD

Thank you sir, you most certainly may!

          • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

haha, i do. My gambling portfolio is up about 125% this year. I’ve been fucked by the spread too many times. Now i only gamble on the straight up winner even if it means less money.

    • AlbertInTucson

Because no one know how far Big Ben can actually throw the ball right now.

  • MB30SD

My picks for the weekend – as posted on a previous thread – were:

    KC
    PIT

    SEA
    WAS

2 for 2 so far, let’s see how I roll today. Hopefully both of our hated rivals get utterly embarrassed today.

  • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

    http://www.sbnation.com/2016/1/10/10743904/steelers-bengals-joey-porter-foul

I called it last night….. what the fuck was Joey fucking Porter, a former mouthy ass linebacker for the Steelers and now “coach” doing on the field??????? Jones was provoked. NFL is a joke.

    • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

WR’s allowed to go over the middle with impunity??? That’s not football.
Bullshit penalties to end a hard fought playoff game??? That’s not football.
Breaking down catches to the nanosecond frame by frame??? That’s not football.

      • MB30SD

So much this… I cannot even beliiiieve it!!

        https://youtu.be/i7RQQhI6oMw

      • CanadaBear

Johnny if you’re bitching about that call on Burfict, that’s not football. That was an intentional cheap shot trying to injure the WR.

        • MB30SD

No, I bet he’s talking about the perfectly executed shoulder beat down given by that safety on that long pass over the middle to #10 I would fathom canada.

That was textbook football, and a fucking absurd flag.

          • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

all of them. The league has helped create an environment where OC’s will call poorly designed routes over the middle assuming that defenders won’t take an aggressive route. Every old timer would tell you that going over the middle JUST DIDN”T HAPPEN without people knowing what the fucking consequence was.

          • CanadaBear

Come on Grandpa, times have changed.

          • MB30SD

No, football isn’t really football anymore. It sucks and it’s sad.

There is professional badminton for those who can’t fucking hang. Smmfh

          • CanadaBear

I get all the tears and hand wringing but when you look at the number of old guys that are a complete mess, something had to be done.

          • MB30SD

            Again, I disagree wholeheartedly.

Put a fucking waiver in front of them at rook camp, show them tape of the old guys now… then say, ok, you can either play a beautiful game for a shit ton of money (and yes, playing football on a practice squad for 300k a year is a shit ton of money, not just the super stars), have fame and women and an easy life where your job is to workout most the year… or you can go back to the farm/inner city/shitty living environment and try to eeeek out a living selling dope or farming or flipping burgers.

If they sign and play, then everyone canjust shut the fuck up about all this bullshit and let them play real football again.

I can get killed/maimed crossing the fucking street for free.

And don’t even get me started about our soldiers, what are they paid for their risks???

          • Doc Nitty

I’m with you on this. But our big brother culture would legislate out the game of football if we did this. Plus, I’m thinking we would be surprised at the number of guys who declined to sign said waver. Or played for two-three years and left early with their money, robbing us of years of great players careers.

Though I’d be willing to try the experiment.

          • MB30SD

            what’s the alternative doc?

            Flag football coming in 3….2…….

          • Doc Nitty

The alternative is what we have now. You’re still watching aren’t you?

          • MB30SD

            begrudgingly.

And no, it’s going to continue to devolve into flag football. it’s a progression and is by no means finished its deevolution

          • Trac

Wake up my man, stop dreaming mmmkay.

            The law kills!

Congress writing new laws 24/7 is destroying the freedom we experienced as young men in this Country, its over dude.

Dude, what are YOU smoking? We can’t even play our football like we used to anymore. New laws = New lawsuits.

          • Trac

You won’t find a more conservative guy than me. Playing it safe is my “happy” place now. hahaha

          • MB30SD

just gotta manage your downside risk baby, once you have that handled gotta rock out with your cock out. hahaha

          • Cormonster

The game has been ruined for me because of the rule changes and officiating. The past few years it would just piss me off all the time. This year I have truly become a casual fan. I have ceased to care. Gotta side with MB and Waffle on this one.

          • CanadaBear

I totally get it. I’m Ok with the rule changes for safety. I hate the way games are officiated. If anything will make me quit watching, it will probably be that.

          • Cormonster

Officiating is the biggest reason for me. The Dez Bryant non catch catch in the playoffs last year was probably the final straw. I figured why invest the time and passion into a team all year only to have the refs take away your season on a bullshit call.

          • MB30SD

            yep

          • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

haha, Canada, some OC would send you across the middle assuming the probability that a defender would be scared to get fined. That’s the new football.

          • CanadaBear

I understand that it’s a pisser the game changed. But after seeing the effects on the old guys something had to be done. When we watch clips of the SB Bears or in my case, Butkus and Sayers, we shake our heads on almost every play. Can’t do that any more, nope, not that either, etc. Pretty amazing it took this long to change.

          • Doc Nitty

And if an old fart like yourself can adapt, maybe we all should.

          • MB30SD

            fukdat

          • DaMurph

            the perfect hit!!!

        • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

Canada, it’s gotten so bad that the announcers actually consulted with Mike Carey on the legality of Burficts fucking tackle of Ben……WHILE HE WAS HOLDING THE FUCKING BALL!!!!!!!!!

          • CanadaBear

I didn’t get that exchange at all. Burfict gets what he deserves for being a cheap shot artist. He will always be under suspicion when he plays. Same with Suh. If you’re constantly trying to hurt other players it will come back on ya.

          • MB30SD

I will tell you this… I 100% agree burfict is a thug and a cheap violent ahole, but watch the highlight tape, the dude is a beast of a lb and he can straight up BALL.

          • CanadaBear

That’s great. Play within the rules. Pretty sure he’s getting some unpaid vacation next year. That was a really cheap shot.

          • MB30SD

This isn’t tiddlywinks Canada, these are violent men, it’s a big part of what makes burfict the anti-shae… and football the most popular game in America. Humans have always loved bloodsport

Sometimes you take the bad with the good.

          • Doc Nitty

I’m on the fence on this one. It’s hard to argue it wasn’t a cheap shot. He could have (it looked like) avoided contact altogether. But Antonio was moving and you know Burfict avoided lowering the real boom.

          • Doc Nitty

Having said that, with his rep and the vitriol in that game, you had to call that flag.

          • Trac

The hit I saw him deliver to Brown at the end of the game made it a little easier to imagine how a death could occur on the field due to the violence of the game. Brutal.

          • MB30SD

            Here’s my deal.

Burfict 100% deserved the flag for that hit. I have NO issues with that one. The TWO I did have HUGE issue with and was the basis for my ranting was the hit by the safety over the middle, which was a picture perfect shoulder-only hit. When I played and I had that unfold in front of me, that WR would have left in a fucking bodybag. The safety did the 100000% right thing and played 100% within the rules. How in THEE fuck are you supposed to hit a guy in that situation. seriously, answer that question. ole him and grab him and try to throw him down? Good luck with that.

Then there was one on a RB I think, again PERFECT form hit.

It disgusts me that these refs are now calling hits that are clearly defined in the rules of football as a perfect form tackle.

          • Doc Nitty

            Agreed.

          • Cormonster

How about the Rodgers “face mask” call against the Lions that extended the game? Afterwards some rules official said it actually wasn’t a face mask, but they will call it every time. WTF??? Same with these big hits. They call a flag for every big hit, even if it’s within the rules. What about the safety of the DB’s who put themselves at risk every time they pull up in one of those situations. It seems like half the safeties in the league are hurt all the time.

          • MB30SD

exactly. Yonny said it all perfectly above. makes me sick and sad. I love this game. It’s even worse for the guys who played the game past HS because it’s a passion and a huge part of who we are to this day… at least for me.

          • Doc Nitty

That one sucked but it sure looked like a face mask at full speed, and full speed is what they have to deal with.

          • Doc Nitty

Exactly. And prior to the last 20 years, we would all be celebrating his “cheap shots” on NFL highlight tapes.

          • DaMurph

Absolutely none of his hits were penalties not too long ago, in fact he would be hailed and voted to the pro bowl for hits like that.

          • MB30SD

oh how I miss the good ol days murph.

  • Cormonster

Chicago is starting the new year off with a bang. 111 shootings already including 19 homicides. There must be a lot of disrespectin’ going on. And this is the off season!

I’d be curious to hear what some of you Chicago guys think. Are the cops doing a soft stand down like occurred in Baltimore last year after all the Black Lives Matter protests? If so, it’s gonna be a good killing year. Baltimore homicides were up 63% last year.

    • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

nothing different is happening. This is Chicago maing. We’ve got some excellent trauma surgeons at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn where lot’s of the “victims” are sent. Imagine if a greater percentage of shooting victims died? The murder rate would be epic.

      • Cormonster

Yeah, those people are true heroes. When I check out the stats periodically at HeyJackass I’m surprised at the small number of deaths compared to the number shot. Same goes for the first responder paramedics.

        • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

          it’s all a joke.

          • Cormonster

Sometimes I forget what the nightly news was like growing up (WGN, CBS with Bill Kurtis and Walter Jacobson). Now the lead story around here is the weather half the time with a bunch of human interest stories mixed in, followed by sports.

          • Doc Nitty

When 99% of the news outlets are owned by the same few corporations, you don’t actually get real news anymore.

        • Doc Nitty

          Nice autu correct!

    • DaMurph

I think the usual tactics are toned down and the criminal element knows they have a whole lotta leeway. Police now need to worry about their jobs and pensions rather than trying to control the worst of the worse. Seems like all the top brass is more than ready to throw others under the bus. I think its going to be a rough year in Chicago!

      • Trac

Hell in a hand basket Murph, hell in a hand basket.

        • MB30SD

when’s it going down Trac? Has the big man given you dates yet? Will there be zombies? Shady knows how much I hate zombies.

She sucks in a very bad way. he he

        • MB30SD

What I find so funny about the lottery is how many more people play it when the jackpot is high. Do people realize the odds of winning don’t increase with the jackpot? I assume so. Which tells me that many people will happily risk two dollars forc700 million but not for forty million. I imagine my life would change the same either way.

    • DaMurph

You are correct, I never buy tickets but find myself spending a few bucks when it get insanely high

      • willbest

Because its less of a tax the larger your expected winnings are. Although with an expected 500-600 million tickets sold for Wednesday you are most likely sharing the pot with 2 or 3 winners then you are to walk away with it outright. So you should really look at it as closer to a 650 million pot than a 1.3 billion

        • MB30SD

ok, I’d take that. Fuck, can you imagine.

    • That Guy

      1) I’d hire smart people to figure out how to invest everything wisely. Two teams.
      2) 50% immediately goes to a charitable trust (maximum you can donate tax free). Team A is responsible for the charity money, Team B for my money. And they check each other’s work. 50% of personal profits go to charity from now on.
      3) I wouldn’t move far from where I am now because my kids are well settled. I’d get certain family members out of state (CA, NY, Israel) into houses big enough that we could vacation there when we wanted. I’d get a bigger house here, nothing silly. Probably get a nice big plot of land somewhere remote that I could drive to (Wisconsin maybe). I wouldn’t want my family to stop living a middle class lifestyle – upper middle class, but middle class.
      4) We would spend a month in Israel some time this year. Maybe for Passover, maybe the high holidays.
      5) I would donate a considerable amount of money to improving Jewish education in Chicago. Kids with special needs, vocational programs, whatever made sense. That would be my first big charitable endeavor.
      6) I would remain a partner in my law firm, but I would invest a bit of cash and change the nature of how we do certain things. I would still be present several days a week.
      7) There are some toys I would consider getting (musical instruments, electronics, etc.) but one thing I’d want for sure would be a block of at least four season tickets at Soldier field. Not sure what section, but somewhere safe to take my kids that didn’t feel too corporate.
      8) The biggest thing for me? I would pay off all of my debts. No more student loans, mortgages, car payments. Nothing. I might invest in real estate that was mortgaged, but I’d never sign a personal guarantee again. I would never owe a personal obligation again for as long as I live.

      • MB30SD

          • Trac

Aah, you speak of the lure of riches that moth and rust corrode. It is written my brother. Hahaha

          • That Guy

Yes and no. As I mentioned above, there are a lot of things that either (a) wouldn’t change with a step up in bank balance, or (b) I wouldn’t want to change. But there are some things which aren’t “riches” so much as the freedom that comes with financial power. The ability, for example, to get access to every educational, medical or technological tool in existence for the benefit of a child with special needs.

A wise man once said “I was happy when I was poor, I was happy when I was rich. Being rich didn’t make me happy, but being rich is better.”

Ok brethren.. I’m looking to get a new computer. Probably a laptop, since i want a decent screen.for movies (tho i could just get an external monitor) . No big gaming, though intermediate stuff (such as Dragon Age Inquisition) are a possibility.

Any mfgs i should favor? Avoid?

What besides an SSD to boot from are “must haves” ?

    • willbest

Nothing based on what you described.

      • SC Dave

I dont do video editing, music mixing, or CAD. Not that this would matter for manufacturer recommendations

        • willbest

If you are just looking for something to watch movies then get a value Toshiba or Asus. The Apples are pretty reliable, but then you pay 25% just for the name.

          • SC Dave

I’ve had Asus before and they are solid.

    • BillW

Tough to say. I used to like Dell but no more. I bought a cheap Toshiba that I like recently. They used to be standard. Cnet has trustworthy reviews. Also amazon. You can trust geeks to be honest. Don’t trust apple fans. They feel obligated to defend spending so much.

This from a geek but I’m not a gamer

      • Cubsnlinux

Really? Some Apple fans might be obnoxious but you might stereotyping there. Macs are very reliable and last forever. In fact If you absolutely need to run Windows then installing Windows on a Mac gets you the best experience and the best of both worlds.

        • BillW

Very easy to use and reliable. Their closed architecture allows for them to assure things stay that way

That said, they clearly sell the “cool” factor. And keep billions overseas but that’s politics and I guess not pertinent

If someone is not comfortable with a computer and has the money then Macs are absolutely the way to go.

    • MB30SD

      get the new surface yo

      • willbest

        Its expensive

        • MB30SD

          $1200-1500, well worth it.

          • SC Dave

I read about plethoras of bugs and problems with the surface 4

          • MB30SD

both my ninja Sr. Architects/Devs have one and they can’t say enough about it. And the one guy is a SERIOUS techie my maings.

    • Cubsnlinux

Must have – At least 8 GB RAM and option to expand

    • Cubsnlinux

      Get a Mac. MacBook Air.

Or if you can wait until June, new Macs might be released then.

  • BillW

I would say game over. Weather and Vikings in Seattle’s head as I see it. Probably a shutout besides

  • willbest

Seattle D is getting desperate to make a play and it going to cost them the game. They need to turns their offense to make a TD happen.

  • SC Dave

How Sherman can whine like a little bitch for so flagrantly violating the rules is best explained by being allowed to do it far too often.

  • SC Dave

Cold weather kickers are valuable assets

  • SC Dave

How many holds do they need?

  • BearDown100393

    Vikings channeling their inner Detroit.

    • SC Dave

      Not yet, but we’ll see

      • willbest

        Nope they are

        • SC Dave

          Petersen doing it

  • MB30SD

    Uhhhh ohhhhh

    • Shady

      Your boy Kam.

      • SC Dave

Its only Petersen… he fumbles all the time.

        • Shady

I know AD has fumbling problems, but gotta give Kam credit for getting in there and litterally yanking the ball away from Peterson. The play was similar to Shazier’s last night.

          • SC Dave

Actually,.i went and looked it up. I’m full of shit on that… ap has 38 career fumbles. His ratio is lower than, say Walter Payton, but higher than Matt Forte.

          • Shady

Yeah but he leads the league in fumbles this year.

        • MB30SD

stop that. I know you HAAAAAATE Seattle, but come on dave, that was all Kam.

          • SC Dave

It was a good play, but Petersen is not famed for ball security.

          • MB30SD

he pulled that ball out with sheer force my maings. He’s 6’3″ 230.

  • MB30SD

    god I love Kam Chancellor

    • Shady

      oh herrrooooo

      • MB30SD

        well, oh HEEEEERRRROOOOOOOO lovely!

  • SC Dave

Maybe they should snap it over wilson again

  • willbest

Looks like a generous spot considering its not a catch until he hits the ground

  • BearDown100393

Wilson can be complete garbage for 3 quarters and find his groove with enough time in the 4th to put on a beat down.

    • willbest

Yeah the NFCC last year where they shit the bed for 3 quarters only to win it. How lucky can one team be.

  • SC Dave

Is someone on a glamor team EVER in th grasp any more? Does that rule still exist? Or do they just wait until the golden boys throw pick-6s?

    • MB30SD

out of the pocket, moving, etc…

  • MB30SD

    BINGO!

  • willbest

    Vikings found a second horn?

    • MB30SD

      bastards

  • willbest

Almost feel bad for the Vikings at this point.

    • BearDown100393

      Almost

  • willbest

Kind of surprised the GB-Skins game was considered the anchor of the week

    • BerwynBomber

I am too. But DC market and Rodgers, I guess.

I wonder what the ratings are for the late Sat game. I imagine that time slot challenges the afternoon Sunday one for top billing.

  • Cubsnlinux

Does Peterson has that stupid smile on his face all the time or is it just his natural expression.

  • Cubsnlinux

    Vikas are D-O-N-E

    • willbest

Wilson won the Powerball on that bad snap, across the body throw to an open receiver as he is going to the ground.

      • Cubsnlinux

Yeah..Vikes have been really overcommiting on defense a lot in the 2nd half. Wilson was dead in tracks at least a couple of times and the Vikes defense has been over aggressive.

    • SC Dave

      Not yet

  • SC Dave

It would be amazing if the chickens won because of a ridiculous play

  • SC Dave

Unreal… they actually called a hold on the seahawks.

  • willbest

Vikings probably wish they had Jay Cutler right about now

  • SC Dave

    Vikings play calling sucks

  • SC Dave

    My man Kam

  • willbest

    That was blatant

  • willbest

    Should have stayed inbounds

    • SC Dave

Was just thinking that but you beat me to the post

  • SC Dave

    Vikings need the td

  • SC Dave

Id put that other runner in… forget his name #31

  • SC Dave

First down run would be awesome

  • SC Dave

    Good game, actually

  • Cubsnlinux

I guess Vikes still have a prayer…may be more

  • Shady

    Fucking brutal.

  • DaMurph

    He fucking missed!!!!!!!!!

    • Trac

      He gone!

      • DaMurph

        maybe even gone!

  • AlbertInTucson

    “Whoop da baby.”

  • willbest

    Wow…

  • Shady

Reminds you of Robbie earlier this season.

    • AlbertInTucson

      Totally.

  • SC Dave

    Fuck Seattle.

    • MB30SD

      Hee hee hee

      • SC Dave

You lied when you said you hate them. But I already knew they were your secret love, so I was not fooled.

        • MB30SD

I LOVE that D dave. Loooove it.

I never said I hated them. I hate all teams in our division by default and never want them to win anything.

Btw, did I mention I love that D?

          • SC Dave

Because they get away with so much cheating?

A good reason, I guess. After all, the Patriots led the way showing that cheaters ever prosper in the NFL.

          • Doc Nitty

I’ve still not heard your reasons for the cheater tag. Adderol?

          • MB30SD

stop it dude. everyone cheats in the nfl. come on, you’re just sounding bitter right now.

They are a very bad ass D, no questions.

  • SC Dave

Hopefully, the Panthers will destroy those undeserving bastards.

  • AlbertInTucson

“I’d rather be lucky than good.”

  • Cubsnlinux

Oh oh. Walsh Goulded the kick to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. That got to hurt for a long time. Ouch!!

  • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

why is collingsworth desperately trying to pin this on the laces of the ball. He fucking shanked it. oh my fucking god that was bad.

    • DaMurph

yeah laces aint shit, he made a 43 yarder earlier lookin at the laces

    • willbest

Because it doesn’t give you the best contact on the ball, but it was a chip shot.

    • SC Dave

Just trying to have a little compassion i guess.

    • MB30SD

      Hee hee

  • Shady

    Laces out Marino…

    “Laces out!”

  • Cubsnlinux

    Kickers must be important..ah..Blogfather?

    • Trac

That’s how you end your kicking career in the NFL. Text book example.

      • DaMurph

Like you said earlier, “HE HONE” LOL

  • willbest

I agree with Bob, its bizarre that Seattle’s last 3 playoff wins have ended in crazy shit.

  • SC Dave

Pathetic set of ‘stars’ for the post game.

Wilson has one lucky play that was a third of the offense, kam strjps, but then follows up with a bad pi, then a fuckup v the TE and the vikes are in range to win the game.

    • MB30SD

      #anygivensunday

  • AlbertInTucson

Seattle won on a busted play on a horrible snap and shanked field goal.

    Isn’t. That. Special.

    • Trac

That’s why Minny is Minny and Seattle is Seattle.

      • SC Dave

        Smfh

    • MB30SD

      Very. Fuck Minnesota al

      • Trac

        Hee hee.

    • Trac

I never took for you for a queens apologist Al. I thought you were old school. My mistake, kind Sir.

      • AlbertInTucson

I was just pointing out the large horseshoe Seattle has up it’s ass.

Queens begged for trouble just settling for FGs.

  • SC Dave

Listen to these idiots… gawd dungy is lame

“Used peterson well”…. what a fucking moron

  • Trac

Ah Jeff? Tom Coughlin is not going to Cincinnati at the Zenith of his career. I’m thinking Florida, where he can sit on his balcony with a blanket over his lap in the middle of winter. He done.

    • willbest

Miami has Gase, and I thought Tampa promoted the OC, did the Jags fire their HC?

      • DaMurph

Trac said HE DONE, i think he means in Florida, retired!

        • AlbertInTucson

That’s not the impression Coughlin left.

          • Trac

I can’t see a team wanting to hire the guy even though he’s brilliant. I just get the sense he’s not where you go to rebuild with today’s prima donna’s.

          • DaMurph

Thats what they said when he hit the Giants and he made it work.

          • Trac

Don’t get me wrong, I’d hire him.

        • willbest

I thought being a HC in FL and retiring were one in the same

          • DaMurph

            Nice juke will!

  • AlbertInTucson

    DaBearsBlog @dabearsblog
Russell Wilson has been brilliant for two months. His performance today has been embarrassing. What the hell is he seeing?”

    How about the thermometer?

    • SC Dave

      And a pass rush

  • SC Dave

For much of the game, the bar had music on. Then someone requested the sound on the tv.

    Asshole.

  • MB30SD

    BAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA

    LALZ vikings

    • Shady

You check out these cross-fit girls on espn? dayum

      • MB30SD

yeah, my right-hand man at work is a big xfit guy. I’ve seen all that shit. Some of those bitches are ALL ON SWOOOOOLLLLEEE!

  • BearDown100393

So…. Washington will be the only home team to win on Wild Card Weekend?

  • AlbertInTucson

The Packers are still tinkering with their O-Line. Backtiari is still out. Last week it was Guard, Josh Sitton. This week it’s their back-up center who will start at left tackle.

  • SC Dave

    Buck and Aikman. Oh f.u.c.k.

    • can’t be worse than last night’s announcer shitfest

      • SC Dave

Didnt watch, but yes it can. Fuck (er Buck) can do it single handed

        • last night was so, so, so bad.

          • SC Dave

Guess i was lucky to be otherwise engaged.

      • CanadaBear

It was like they were watching a different game.

    • BearDown100393

Joe Buck and Seth Rogen now have health insurance.

    • CanadaBear

Aikman doesn’t bother me. Buck is my least favorite.

  • Cubsnlinux

Doesn’t the lady in the Hyundai-NFL commercial where the dude cuts off his fence to make a Defense sign look too old to be his wife?

When I first saw that ad I thought she was his mom. Weird.

  • TBC

LOL. come on pack. Just don’t outchoke or outshame the other 3 losers this weekend

    • SC Dave

Gawd no shit. Vikings…. the worst of it is that fucking SEATTLE advances

  • Shady

DATA! How’s the new gig going so far??

    • it’s good, but hard. I worked about 60-65 hours this week. Took today off.

      • Shady

You know Doc is a college professor too, right?

      • Doc Nitty

        What’s the gig?

        • just started as a chemistry prof.

          • Doc Nitty

Awesome, man! Congrats! Chemistry is harder to teach than math. You have to prepare labs and create lab manuels…I just to have grade math tests or talk about math everyday.

            Good on ya mate!

            U or CC?

          • Shady

He’s also getting his Phd next summer Doc Nitty.

          • Doc Nitty

            Col bitchin!

          • Liberal arts college. 4-year, but no grad school, so not university.

Luckily they have lab stuff in place for both the classes I’m teaching right now.

          • Doc Nitty

That’s the level I was hoping to end up at.

          • BearDown100393

            Walter White

          • Doc Nitty

Was grad school as brutal for you as it was for me? I worked on solving one problem for about ten hours a day for a solid year one year. Finally gave up and did two other proofs for a second year. We had our first child during the year of my quals. I was getting 4-5 hours of sleep a night…

            Grad school was hard.

          • I was miserable in grad school. Really not looking forward to having to go back next summer. Was never happy there.

          • Doc Nitty

            So you’re ABD right now?

          • yeah, unless my PI decides to be a dick and make me do more experiments.

          • Irish Sweetness

Jesus, how old are you Woodsy? Professors are doctors that have published like 60+ papers, right? I thought you were in your thirties for some reason. Just get married late?

          • I’m 27. Straight outta grad school. No publications yet, but will have 2 in the next year.

  • BearDown100393

    Lacy playing 4 months pregnant.

    • willbest

Barely noticeable at 4 months. And my wife was a little bitty thing at 5’2″ and 115 at that time with our first.

  • SC Dave

Fortunately for ya’ll, my phone is about done, so i will be going away . Yes, i can hear the collective sigh of relief from here.

  • willbest

    That was satisfying to watch

    • Shady

Funny what happens to a QB with no line and no WRs.

That being said, DC can and probably will still find a way to lose.

  • SC Dave

    Redskins 0, Rodgers -2

    (giggle)

  • Big Mike

    Fuck the Packers

    • Doc Nitty

I wish I could vote this up twice.

  • willbest

Why would you go empty backfield on 3&2 at the goal line…

  • willbest

If that were Rodgers it would be PI and he would get 3 more shots from the 1

  • Shady

And that’s why the Packers are going to be in this thing until the end. Desean Jackson could have easily scored a TD by extending the football and diving into the end zone, but he chose to run out of bonds instead. It’s the playoffs Desean, time to go big or go home.

  • willbest

Rodgers is just not accurate today.

    • Shady

Because he’s been hit, he’s been rattled. He’s just not used to what’s going on around him.

    • BearDown100393

According to GetCoveredIllinois dot com, also just had appendicitis.

    • BerwynBomber

He has looked crappy most of the second half of the year. Some of it a horrible O-line. Some it is wideouts who can’t separate. But some of it is just him. He’s been bad.

  • The GP

    Pack are over matched

  • The GP

We could have drafted Tress Way in the 4th instead of PATRICK shitty in the 3rd

    • AlbertInTucson

Um, I believe the Bears HAD Way as a free agent and kept O’Donnell instead, basically BECAUSE they had used a draft pick on him.

      • RenoBear

        This

    • RenoBear

He was in camp for TWO years…. POD only stuck because he was a draft pick. Terrible terrible management

  • willbest

Kirk Cousins just might end up with a bigger payday than Jay Cutler

  • AlbertInTucson

    DaBearsBlog @dabearsblog
Couldn’t game I have ever been to. Coldest thing I’ve ever been to. https://twitter.com/adamhoge/status/686255041204908032 …”

    1/8/89.

20 Degrees at Soldier field with a wind chill of 2.

    49ers 28 – Bears 3.

The Concept that terrible weather is an automatic advantage to the home team is a myth.

That day, the BEARS looked cold, not the 49ers.

    • Doc Nitty

I’m still pissed about that game.

      • SC Dave

Nowhere near as bad as losing to washington in 1986 and 1987

        • SC Dave

          Ditka…. smfh

        • Doc Nitty

It was if you lived amongst niner fans as I did. Hence my tremendous disdain for the niners to this day.

    • BerwynBomber

Was that the game where Montana would not be able to pass? Or so when the conventional wisdom.

      • AlbertInTucson

        Exactly.

He hit Rice on a slant for 61 and a TD early and that was as close the bears ever came.

  • AlbertInTucson

OK, missed PAT & not getting that Jackson TD is 5 points the Redskins SHOULD have, but don’t.

That stuff almost ALWAYS comes around to be a factor.

  • willbest

Why doesn’t at least the home team HC have a buzzer to sound the stadium for a TO.

  • All that and it’s a 4-point game. Should be 9. WAS killing themselves.

  • Cubsnlinux

Cousins has been lucky in the pocket so far and finally it hurts him. Hanging in there far too long.

  • RenoBear

    Man… Lacy is FAT

    • BearDown100393

FOX briefly showed him during the pregame warm up. He had his jersey lifted up. The camera quickly cut.

      • RenoBear

        Hahahahaha

  • RenoBear

And I fucking HATE directv’s service on local channels… It always goes out during playoff games even in perfect fucking weather. Every. Damn. Year

    • burntorangenavyblue

Never happened to me on my directv. When I watch the Blackhawks on the comcast sportsnet, they always have technical problems. Not sure what it is

  • BearDown100393

Fat Ed dining on hog right now.

  • wreckinball

    Annoying cheeseheads

  • Cubsnlinux

Skins mojo is ovah after the first quarter

  • AlbertInTucson

I think you can put a fork in the ‘Skins.

  • willbest

This is depressing. Now I have to wait for the next week and hope the cards mop the floor with the packers again.

  • BillW

I had my doubts despite so many claiming GB was really bad. I wanted to believe that but today showed otherwise. I suspect they lose next week but the swagger is back and deservedly so

I guess Rodgers is better than Cousins after all. Whoop de frickin’do.

    • BearDown100393

Cousins still might have an opportunity to show the world he is better at challenges.

  • wreckinball

    Suck

  • BearDown100393

Defying the odds, Jay Gruden appears to have this dyfunctional franchise overachieving despite its stupid owner. It will be an interesting off season for Washington. Conventional wisdom is to work with Gruden and provide the pieces needed to get better. That might be too much to ask from Snyder, fan boy of RGIII and overpaid past prime diva free agents. If anything, Gruden should have gained league respect and a future opportunity to work elsewhere.

    • BerwynBomber

Apparently their new GM is highly thought of; had a hand in building SF during the Harbaugh years.

  • DaMurph

Not a good weekend of playoffs. The KC vs. Texans game I didnt care who won it. The rest, every team I wanted to win, lost. Fuck!

    • Cubsnlinux

      Yep, same here. Bad weekend.

      • SC Dave

Steelers and Seahawks winning sucked. Otherwise ok

  • wreckinball

    Go cards

    • DaMurph

Yeah I hope they win it all. Im a big Arians fan, watching hows hes coached and what hes done over the last few years.

    • BearDown100393

All depends on protecting and preventing injury to Carson Palmer.

  • BearDown100393

The Cheese have the most unhealthy coaching staff in all of sports.

    • burntorangenavyblue

All’s in a name…gotta sell what you are

  • That Guy

And this is why I don’t bet on sports. I am 0/4 picking games this week.

    • BerwynBomber

      Four road teams prevail. Weird.

  • BerwynBomber

Impressive win by Rodgers and the Cheese. Didn’t think they had that in them. Especially after their last 10 games and their meltdown in last year’s NFCC.

But they’ll be smoked next weekend.

    • BillW

Didn’t see much of the game. Stats rarely tell the story but it looked like Rodgers was efficient but not the difference maker. Two tds but under 60% 5. 8yds per attempt. Solid cutler like 93 rating

But about 150 yds on the ground and 2 rushing tds. So it looks like they controlled the game and the clock (didn’t see TOP) And Rodgers was as much a game manager than a super star

      Too harsh?

      • BerwynBomber

He started lousy but played very well the last three quarters. A 93 rating in a road win in the post-season is nothing to sneeze at, I suppose. Once he started clicking it seemed to open up the Cheese’s ground game.

But they’ll be clobbered next weekend. ARI is in another class.

    • SC Dave

If Rodgers is on, Packers win. Simple as that.

    • wreckinball

      Hope you’re right.
      Rodgers though scares me
I think he’s the best right now

  • BerwynBomber

Btw, not sold on Cousins. Yeah, he was sacked five or six times, but all but two of those were true coverage sacks. At times he had all day and a very clean pocket. Still, he didn’t do much.

Strikes me as a guy whose ceiling is “average”.

Good luck with that off-season contract, Washington.

    • wreckinball

He’s just middle of the road

  • Jack Lacan

Who cares about anything except what the Bears do now?

    • BillW

For Bear fans the Pack has to lose. Then there is nothing else to care about

It will make me sick if gb wins another sb. I don’t like being sick

      • willbest

As a fan of football Seattle and New England need to lose as well.

  • Captain Obvious

Who has two thumbs and called ALL FOUR games right?

    This guy.

I fairness to me, it took 2 miracles for you to be right. Walsh missing a chip shot, and the Steelers resurrecting Big Ben to manufacture a miracle drive needing a headhunter penalty plus a out of control player penalty. Oh and then there was the ridiculous play by Wilson which should have been a 20 yard sack but ended up being a 30 yard gain.

Hell if Deshawn had played to win, that game could have been a lot different.

A shanked field goal from a perfect Sunday of football. Shit.

Recent comments on NFL by Trump — he’s a total asshole…

No worries all you Trump haters… Hillary was ordained as our next President at least six years ago.

Be kind of hard to do that from prison. They are up to 1500 emails containing classified emails that went through her private e-mail server, along with evidence to suggest she directed an aid to do so as well. All violations of US criminal law.

Nobody has spent $500 million on TV ads convincing America she is a bad person yet.

Would America really dare to elect the cackler? Perish the thought.

If it really mattered or there’s an ounce of legitimate evidence other than the “email” stuff that supports the call for her head, she’d really wouldn’t be even near the chance to go for a presidential bid.

If you forced me to bet, I would put my money on Biden as the Dem nominee.

The Redskins didn’t beat a team with a winning record all year. Not that surprising they lost today.

    • MB30SD
