Commissioner Liberace, we have the newly redesigned football ready for your inspection.

    • CanadaBear

My favorite Liberace story. He was on Letterman and talking about his long career. He had just missed his first gig in his career due to health issues. Letterman asked him why he missed the gig and Liberace replied, “Pulled groin”, Letterman responded, “Your own?” Liberace laughed his ass off. Full disclosure, I’ve always loved to watch Liberace play piano. As a kid I loved piano music and Little Richard, Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis and Liberace were my faves. Even as a kid when I knew nothing about sexuality, I knew there was something different about Little Richard and Liberace but didn’t care.

  • Doc Nitty

I haven’t seen blue balls like that since I last took a piss.

  • Viva los Osos

    • Ososfan

      Yea!!!!!

  • Well, now we know why the Pack jumped us for Spriggs. If you’re worrying about your ankle, you probably aren’t thinking about the guy in front of you.

Packers LT David Bakhtiari said the sprained ankle he suffered in December will require regular attention moving forward.

“It’s hard when something like that changes your ankle,” Bakhtiari said. “You have to be conscientious of it and make sure that if anything happens, or if you notice anything, just make sure to take
care of it and not let it linger.” The injury did not require surgery, but it sounds like it is something he will have to deal with for the rest of his career. Bakhtiari is entering the final year of his rookie deal. No. 48 overall pick Jason Spriggs may be Green Bay’s left tackle of the future.

  • EnderWiggin

Are we sure that Braverman is white? He has something else going on in there – maybe some native american, or possibly some lebanese?

    • Old Broken Romanian Jericho

Yes, something is going on there. His mom smoked and drank during pregnancy which is why he is fucking tiny and will not be a WR for the Bears.
      #badgenes

      • Ososfan

Don’t know if you read bye story but Braverman’s mom actually walked out on his family whe he was young and he has never seen her since.

        • Old Broken Romanian Jericho

Damn, she smoked and drank like a motherfucker during pregnancy, gave birth to our preemie sized WR, then abandoned him on Halas Halls doorstep.
          Cold blooded.

Reminds me of a joke from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. “I dropped Buckley off baseball practice but he didn’t have any equipment” “Oh he doesn’t play, he is an owner. They sit up there in a tree and evaluate the players”

Hulk Hogan is used to acting and being fed his lines. This time he just needed to do it on the stand.

      • Cormonster

Hogan deserved the embarrassment after what he did to his tag team partner, Macho Man. Making moves on your partners girl, Sweet Elizabeth, is about as low as it gets. Talk about stabbing a friend in the back.

            Speaking of which, Chyna died.

The WWF – who owns the name and the character rights – refused to let her relatives call her Chyna at her funeral.

          • CanadaBear

I remember watching Celebrity Rehab (partly because of the train wrecks and partly to keep me on the straight and narrow) and she was just a mess. Once she started doing porn you knew it wasn’t going to end well. Leave it to the WWF to make a horrible situation worse.

  • I was looking see if they had a rerun of the draft, but couldn’t find anything. NFL prolly has that on lockdown, but if any of you guys have a link, plz share. I didn’t get to see some of it cuz of life.

Kevin Dodd, foot surgery, out until camp….then will reinjure and have lackluster rookie year.

      • Da Dodd does not abide I guess.

After he came off the board, didn’t really like other Dline options.

Bullard might end up being the most impactful rook for us.

        • Old Broken Romanian Jericho

I think people are going to freak out when they see White with the ball. I really do. Missing him in his first year created this weird feeling like we’re getting some JAG when in reality we’re getting a potential monster. Holy Fuck it’s hard to think about because he became an afterthought but Halas Hall knows what they have.

          • Swing Tackle of Destiny

Kevin White: Don’t be a JAG

          • Well, technically White’s not a rook, esp since he’s like 25, but I hear ya clucking, big worm!

We actually drafted 3 “old” rooks. Long, White and Floyd.

White is actually older than Wilson by a few months.

      The Wire
      Dr Who

      • MB30SD

you are such a tv whore

        • Here’s a blog poll.

What’s the best TV show (non-cable) from

          80s
          90s

          ?

          • CanadaBear

80’s Cheers. 90’s not sure. Wasn’t watching a lot of network shows. For the first half of the decade I didn’t have cable. 2nd half had Direct TV.

          • 90s has some good ones.

            Simpsons
            Married with Children
            Star Trek
            Seinfeld

          • willbest

            Magnum PI
            Night Court
            The A-team
            MacGyver
            Knight Rider

Married with Children is probably the only show I would go back and watch though.

            90s

Deep Space Nine was the best Star Trek sequel. I rather liked Fraiser but I didn’t watch it until the 00’s.

Saved by the Bell proved how amazingly horny I was back when many a tissue were spent thinking about Tiffany Amber Theissen. Because that show is downright painful to watch now.

          • MB30SD

knew I loved you for a reason will

          • DS9 really grew on me. I watch that one many times over.

I think because it touches on some topics that previous ones hadn’t, and most of the characters have skeletons in their closets.

I also find the dialogue excellent, esp with Quark and Garak

There’s also another one about how humanoids in general are only tolerant to aliens that resemble them , that we’re evolutionarily hardwired to distrust non-pipeds who are too different than us.

          • Irish Sweetness

Voyager is under-rated I think. As was Babylon 5 which had some Shakespearian scenes with Narn and Londo. Great series.

          • Irish Sweetness

            Picard in ‘Chain of command’?

          • Irish Sweetness

Ah, Peg. Stuff I found out watching the repulsive Howard Stern interview the classy Katey Sagal this week. Her dad directed episodes of The Twilight Zone, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Columbo, and The Man from U.N.C.L.E., the miniseries Rich Man, Poor Man and,the 1971 cult classic science fiction film The Omega Man, starring Charlton Heston in the lead role. Stern is obsessed with people’s sex lives and how much they’re worth.

Boris Sagal was killed stepping out of a helicopter and is the reason they have special seatbelts and procedures for exiting helicopters now.

Aside: The kids begged me to put on ‘I am legend’ last night, so I’ll watch the original ‘Omega Man’ tonight. I forgot they went with the ridiculous crowd pleasing end instead of the alternate ending where Neville dies. In the movie, Will Smith returns the head Hemocyte’s girlfriend, because they’re capable of ‘love’, and then he drives off into happiness with his new family. In the alternate ending, Neville gives the anti-dote to the woman and boy, who escape from a convenient back entrance as Will Smith blows up the encroaching zombies with a grenade.

90″s- In Living Color or Twin Peaks. Both highly influential and still watchable.

Our group of pals at UM during my undergrad days in the Reagan 80s, there was this Asian guy on our dorm floor – cool guy, had lots of brighly colored pills from Asia that would mess your mind up – so he was fun to hang with and a cool dude – we gave each other names – and his was Johnny Socko.

So we’re in a bar one night, and we call him Johnny – and one of us said Johnny Socko and some other Asian students reported us to the school for Asian stereotyping, even though we called the Jewish guy “Hammy” and we were just rude all around. So we had to tell the school we would stop and I actually tried to argue it was not racist but noooo… hell – nowadays I would probably be kicked out.

Anyhow, best show of the 1980s was Letterman in his prime.

          • Captain Obvious

Let’s not forget Moonlighting. It was uneven, but for a couple seasons it was the funniest shit on TV.

      • Irish Sweetness

Don’t forget The Sopranos, Lost and West Wing.

        BTW
Episode 5 Season 6 GOT. Did we get hornswaggled?

The twist makes no sense. Hodor has been saying ‘Hodor’ for years, since before Bran was even born. You can’t change the past, because it’s already happened. They jumped the shark, just like the last episode of ‘Lost’. Fans don’t see the sleight of hand and think ‘BRILLIANT!’ The writers have been playing the ‘guy who says nothing but Hodor’ card for six seasons now, waiting for an opportunity to try and explain it. He wasn’t called Hodor in the book …

        • Sactowns#1

The tree of life allows Bran to travel through time and space. Remember, neither are linear. So he basically ruined that guys whole life and had him sacrifice himself all so he could get away. kinda jerk move.

          • Irish Sweetness

If time is not linear, then it works, but we know otherwise. Hodor was saying ‘Hodor’ before Bran was even born, before a timeline could have existed where Bran could observe and then change the past (if that were even a possibility). Temporal Paradox. And if time isn’t linear, then when you re-visit the past and change something, you’re changing a different timeline. Either way, the ‘hod the door’ scene – although very moving – is a total logic cop-out, pulling out not only the ‘suspension of disbelief’ card, but a ‘suspension-of-logic’ card. Big no-no for me. Its cheating, and 95% of the fans won’t see it, so they get away with it, just like the end of ‘Lost’. Cuse and Abrams are frauds for saying otherwise.

        • Ososfan

Love GOT seems Bran can mess up events in the past with some very bad future repercussions?

      • Sactowns#1

I tried to watch Peaky Blinders but my hatred of britts just gets in the way.
I agree though, HBO always has the best shows. Rome was amazing, GOT is #1 right now, Sopranos changed TV, their comedies (Bored to Death, Eastbound and Down, Lucky Louie, Summer Heights and Flight of the concords, THE LARRY SANDERS SHOW) all set new standards. I’m pretty sure Deadwood revived a whole genre by itself.
One that I really liked that flew under the radar was #1 Ladies Detective Agency.
Now here’s a tough one, best HBO series of all time. The Wire was a revelation as was Oz. Idk. It’s tough.

        • Irish Sweetness

          Rome was great.

Prison Break s coming back for a fifth series I heard.

You guys should check out BOTH seasons of Fargo.

        • Irish Sweetness

First one was good. Didn’t like the Maguffin of the aliens in season two.

If there’s a gun on he table in act one, it must go off in act three. Setting something up and then not delivering is unforgivable in writing. Like the end of Lost. You’re thinking to yourself “this is amazing writing, how can they possibly tie all these threads together?” and then you see that they couldn’t and hey just cheat the viewer. Fuck Carlton Cuse and JJ Abrams for that. It’s the literary equivalent of cheating.

    • I think it’s a huge urban myth, and possibly prejudice, that stoners are lazy.

3 of the most active ppl I know smoked weed big time.

My best friend preferred smoking to drinking. He was a contractor so he did a lot of construction AND worked out. He would smoke weed between bench presses! He esp does that now since he’s diabetic (genetic, not fat) so can’t really drink.

My other good friend would smoke out every day after work. He just received his 2nd masters from USC

My other good friend also smoked a bunch. He runs marathons (during his training, he’ll stop somewhere and smoke weed), does some boxing and jujitsu too on top of having a job.

I know that’s just anecdotal, but it’s been my experience that “stoners” aren’t really lazy.

      • Sactowns#1

In capitalist America not working tirelessly is tantamount to sin. Hence meth was legal for years while marijuana was the devil!
Truth be told MJ doesn’t make you lazy but it also doesn’t make anyone else any money. Now go swallow some prescription pills instead.

Interesting thing. I talked to an ex pat who was living there. He pulled his back so I was like, just go to the pharmacy and get some muscle relaxers. I thought it was like Mexico. He said “pills like that don’t exist here”. Crazy.

One of the best movies of 2016 is Uncharted 4 for the PS4.

    • My wife and I were walking through our neighborhood yesterday when we noticed somebody had a Maserati parked in the driveway. 2 thoughts:

      1) Homes in this neighborhood are worth around $200k. Why buy a car worth half your house (or more)? Get a better house instead.

      2) If you’re going to buy that nice of a car, WTF are you doing parking it in the driveway, presumably so you can pile worthless shit in your garage?

      • Old Broken Romanian Jericho

I love maserati as a brand. I have no problem with maserati.

  • In Bears news, Leonard Floyd is finally signed.

    WTF took them so long?

    • More bear news.

Bears C Hroniss Grasu gained 13 pounds this offseason.

He is up to 310 pounds after weighing in at 297 most of last season. The extra weight could help, but Grasu was well below average in eight rookie starts. He will face competition from both Ted Larsen and Manny Ramirez in training camp.- Roto

He might have to purchase sturdier skates.

Why is our 3rd rounder not signed

    • AlbertInTucson

He’s signed. Why does it matter?

      • It’s not exactly an encouraging trend.
The ONE issue we never had was signing our draftees promptly. In fact, Bears usually signed them up first, and that was BEFORE the new scale.

With this new scale, the new guy should sign them fast. The slots practically write themselves.

Makes me think he’s incompetent, which later down the line, might bite us in the ass when it comes to REAL negotiations.

Damn. Damn. Damn.White Sox blow a 7-1 lead in the 9th. Is it NOT yet time to shake things up on the South side and show Robin Ventura the door?

    • Trac

Yep, I still can’t believe the season the Cubs seem to be having though. Will they choke in the post season yet sgain?

      • CanadaBear

This current team is more talented than any Cubs team in recent memory. Not to mention, Maddon is a good mgr. For the first time in my memory they have a lineup that is patient, takes their walks and plays pretty good D. The pitching is good, starters and relievers. They might not go all the way but I don’t see them choking it away.

        • You’re almost making me want to watch the cubbies again.
I haven’t kept up with them since the Mark Grace days.

          • CanadaBear

If you were ever going to get interested now’s a good time. All the other Cubs teams that went to the playoffs, were feast or famine on O. Lots of homers, lots of strikeouts, not many walks. When the wind was blowing in or really any low-scoring game they were fucked. The lineup now is strong top to bottom and almost all of the starters will take a walk. Plus they actually seem to be a pretty likable bunch.

          • The odd part is, that even though the cubbies haven’t done crap in over a century, they still don’t come close to pissing me off as much as the Bears.

There’s some sorta psychological shit going on there. Maybe I got conditioned to treat the cubs in the “likable losers’ mold.

They’re like the Steven Buscemi of sports.

          • CanadaBear

When they play 162 you can’t live and die with them like football.

Chicago Bears {{ 2016 }} NFL Draft: Birth of MONSTER$

Thought you guys might like this, I loved the title of the video!

      • CanadaBear

I’ve gotta admit that Floyd’s speed jumps out at ya. Not sure if he can handle the pros at his weight but he gets there in a hurry.

        • Swing Tackle of Destiny

a huge hurry. he looks like the mothership alien crawling over Ripley’s fork lift machine.

He looks like an adult wading his way through kids to slap some bad kid holding the ball.

          • CanadaBear

Just hope he can do the same stuff in the NFL.

        • Yes, I was very surprise when I first watched his highlights that he was 6’6. He looked Von Miller fast.

I don’t even think the Bears want him to gain weight really.

They already admitted he’s going to start off as a subpackage rush specialist.

If he excels at that via Aldon Smith (8+ sacks) then they may not want him to gain weight and maybe lose some of that speed.

He also has unusual bend for his height which is a huge plus in rushing.

But, I still have my doubts. Like I said before, the next 6’6 230 LB who becomes a stud will be the first.

          • CanadaBear

I think if he gets on a proper nutritional diet coordinated with his workouts, he should be able to put on some weight and not lose his speed. Who knows? If they just use him as a situational rusher and he gets 8+ sacks, it’s a good year.

          • That’s sorta what I’m measuring him by this year

8+ sacks, with some coverage skills, and flashes of playmaking (FFs, strips, Ints, etc) and he’ll be a homerun.

But realistically, might not be like that.

I do wonder how the sport’s science works. It’s all convulsed. Something about frame, hips, body mass etc.

Like my brother in law is just thick. We’re the same height, but he’s got wider hips, thicker forearms, calves and thighs. He prolly weighs like 50 more pounds than me without looking fat.

I have a bit leaner build. More like a fast forward, which is what Floyd looks like.

I know when I gain weight, I feel more sluggish, but then again, it’s prolly not the “right weight” and I certainly don’t have a team of nutritionists examining me.

Something tells me Floyd will make us all part time nutritionists lol

          • Irish Sweetness

No maybe, he would lose speed. Where I’m pumped to see him play is when he drops back to defend passes. That’s a huge radius he takes away from you. He’d be like Dr. Octopus in the secondary.

Never a big fan of the 944. The car appears to be in damn good shape though.

      • Swing Tackle of Destiny

it’s in very good shape. No rust. It will make 181bhp at the crank, but a turbo kit will take it to 230-240. Don’t like the interior at all, but it’s in good shape for a 944.

        • EnderWiggin

It has the plaid interior… That is the best part. Plaid gives it a Shooter McGavin feel.

          • Swing Tackle of Destiny

I do feel I would need a porn stache to drive that car.

        • Old Broken Romanian Jericho

The 944 is kind of like the BMW 850 for me. I like the concept of it but it underwhelms when your next to it. I was going to get a 1992 850 and had a guy ready to put about 8K into it to make it fucking new and awesome but up close it just felt small and cheaply put together even though it was a gamechanger when it came out.
I’ll still look for one but have to be ready to put some serious money into it to make it 2016 worthwhile.

The 944 will always have a special place in my heart though. A good friend in grade school’s dad had one. he was a drummer and a wanderer and nothing like we had ever seen. you could see the jealousy in our dad’s eyes….jealous of the car, the guy and the mustache….

          • Swing Tackle of Destiny

An 850 can photograph really well. But up close, yes – it underwhelms.

It’s the Shae McCellin of cars. Once you see it in motion – you’re like “oh… yeah”.
