Jeff & Jahns: Sun-Times Beat Writer Adam Jahns Discusses Kyle Fuller, Jimmy Clausen &

| September 21st, 2015

Screen Shot 2015-09-21 at 2.59.31 PM

Had some sound issues with my phone line on the below pod. Some of Adam Jahns’ beliefs:

  • Jimmy Clausen was terrible in Bourbonnais and looked similar on the field this week. Nobody should be surprised by his struggles.
  • The same goes for Kyle Fuller. He was torched by just about every Bears receiver all summer and was thoroughly embarrassed by TY Hilton during the co-practice with the Colts. Jahns reports an ornery player at his locker long after the game, delivering a series of one word answers and deflections. He believes Fuller is at “a crossroads” and I agree.
  • I asked how the locker room after Sunday compared to the 2014 locker rooms after blowout losses. His response was disconcerting. (I was hoping to hear about an angry room. It just sounded sullen.)
  • Bears biggest problem in the pass rush is their overwhelming failure to win one-on-one matchups. Their rush is not being schemed out. It’s being talented out.
  • Kyle Long is the only offensive lineman on the Bears without a penalty, per Jahns.
  • Jahns gives David Fales a good chance to start should Cutler miss any time.

After the jump, listen to the entire interview.

Post pics of hotties with most excellent racks. We need cheering up.

    • Viva

      Again, I am with you…

  • AlbertInTucson

“Weird part of those massive pass interference calls is the coverage wasn’t bad on either one. Fuller & Ball just play with zero awareness.”

At some point, you HAVE to look for the football or you just make it SIMPLE for the Zebras to toss the flag.

    • The GP

What Shae did to Fitzgerald in the endzone was basically a mugging, he looked like a zombie shambling to jump on Larry’s back.

Larry just brushed him off and made the catch anyway.

      • AlbertInTucson

Yup. And a Zebra is looking right at it, playing spectator.

    • WP34

In ’89 high school we were taught that you have to turn your head.

  • AlbertInTucson

I think you can trace Fuller’s decline to the first time he got dinged last year.

    • The GP

You can’t take a zone corner and put him in a BnR 3-4. Isn’t this some kind of football truism?

What did Adam say? Or was it Hub today? It was Hub.

Emery was all drool because he watched that VT game where Fuller moved into play safety and blitzed half the time. He loved that versatility. Well guess what, Phil? No amount of NCAA versatility means you can play NFL corner.

The pick that day was Clinton-Dix. Shoulda woulda coulda. He was a 3-4 FS, as evidenced by how well he plays for the Pack. We got a head case whose confidence is shot.

      • WP34

…how many chronic mistakes can the Bears organization continually make.

Doesn’t the sun even shine on a dogs ass once in a while. Was this Lach, forte etc for us.

        • MB30SD

yes, we’ve shot our load with the ’85 squad. I personally think that the mccaskeys did a deal with the devil for ’85 (and #34) and we’ve been paying ever since.

          Right trac?

          • WP34

            Definitely feels that way.

          • Trac

It was Buddy Ryan that made the deal.

          • AlbertInTucson

Jim Finks supplied the All-Pro parts.

      • SC Dave

Then the staff needs to fix his confidence. Good coaches do that. At least sometimes.

  • MB30SD

The GP, in a sad confluence of events, I just posted them on the dead thread.

Don’t get excited. I’m just back for MBs breast posts…

      • MB30SD

        TJ!

        • tobijohn

When did you decide to come back? You were conspicuous by your absence…

          • MB30SD

beginning of the season. Doc begged me.

            How are things my maings?

          • tobijohn

Busy but good. Got back into electric guitars about a year and a half ago after a twenty year hiatus so I haven’t spent too much time on DBB because of it. My obsessive self is now up to about seventy. Looks like a Hard Rock Café around here…

          • MB30SD

I was around for the new obsession. 70?!?! Wtf tj??? Seek help young man! Hahaha

            Hows all your pussy doing?

          • tobijohn

Down to six from the eight my ex left me due to un-treatable health issues but currently at nine due to stray kittens showing up at the front door over the past year or so. As for the other variety, I did the math and the cost of a month of dating was approximately the same as another electric guitar. After thirty years of fighting one losing battle after another, guitars are a welcome respite. And at least i have something to show for what I’ve spent…

          • Sactowns#1

No joke, dating is a huge waste of time and money most of the time. I mean even if I score at the end of the night I start crunching the numbers and think about how I could have just as easily spent about $40 on drinks and accomplished the same thing for a 1/4 of the cost.

          • MB30SD

Jesus, you’re the old crazy cat lady TJ. Stop that right now!

Yeah, dating is expensive and a pain in the ass. But I don’t have a boss coyote coat and a black trans am do i?

          • tobijohn

            Almost semi-autobiographical:
            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27UiWUEMvBo

And please, it’s a black Corvette. Guys who drive Trans Ams have mullets and wear cheap aftershave..

          • MB30SD

you should upgrade to direct tv NOW TJ.

Shit, that’s right. Sorry, couldn’t remember which american muscle car it was.

  • The GP

Mully had an analyst on who helpfully reminded us that Emery’s one non-fuckup pick, Long, was a fuck-up. That they could have gotten Long in the 2nd, and picked up Tyler Eifert AND Long.

    • DaBearsBlog

They took a great player. You have no idea who will be drafted when.

      • AlbertInTucson

Agree. Be thankful they grabbed a first rounder who ACTUALLY CONTRIBUTED FROM THE GET-GO!

    • BearDown100393

Long was a great pick. He’s just a bust at twitter

      • Trac

The problem is that most teams wait until the 3 rd round to draft guards.

        • BearDown100393

The Bears aren’t most teams. Fate would’ve been another team drafting him ahead.

          • Trac

He’d have been gobbled up by the 3rd, that’s for sure. Prolly 50/50 he’d have been there in the 2nd for us.

    • Trac

That was my take at the time. It’s a safe bet drafting a stud guard in the 1st but most teams try for better value than a guard.

      • I believe in that philo too, but if Long turns out to be a great RT, then that’s value on any chart.

        • Trac

True but how many years later?

          • WP34

            Let’s start w this year

          • Rarely do any rooks make much of an impact. It takes 2yrs give or take.
Long has already given us 2 solid near PB years, which is more than most draftpicks.
We’ll find out if he is a RT this season.

It’s not as if we were going to win a SB last or this season.

    • Shady

I know Eifert is your boy, but Long was not going to be available in the 2nd round. No wayyyyy. We went over this.

  • AlbertInTucson

Reports say Cutler out for 2 weeks.

    • BearDown100393

      Cool. I guess.

      • WP34

        39.5 to 10.

    • Hope he’s out till after the bye.
That’ll give us a bigger sample size to see if Fales is foreals. Even then, look how sucky Peyton looked his entire rookie season.

The more tape we have on him the better.

    • BerwynBomber

Minimum 2 weeks is how I read it.

    • Trac

Fales ain’t no Dan Marino. A game manager won’t get it done.

      • BerwynBomber

We should be so lucky to see Fales in meaningful action but my bet is we’re dining on Pickles until Cutty returns.

        • BearDown100393

Apparently Jimmy already has the Seattle start.

          • AlbertInTucson

I find that disappointing. Fox/Gase must just feel he isn’t ready for prime time.

          • Trac

They cut him 2 weeks ago. Makes sense why they’d start pickles.

          • AlbertInTucson

That was procedural. The clearly wanted to bring him back. 31 other teams did something similar a players.

          • BerwynBomber

Good point. He’s a fifth round pick but two regimes have kept him around and he beat out the Fox/Gase guy from DEN whose name now escapes me.
I’m thinking they see Fales as a potential back-up.

          • Bear Down in Tampa

Dysert is the guy you’re thinking of.

          • Irish Sweetness

We could have lost him. Had Romo gone down last week, Fales was gone.

  • WP34

Here is to 3 and 3 @ the bye week.

    • BearDown100393

      Next season?

      • WP34

I think raiders, chiefs, lions. Book it.

        • Scharfinator

Chiefs? REALLY? Good luck on that one. The other two I can believe 😛

          • WP34

I watched the chiefs lose to broncos, chiefs had them, #18 caught fire. U might be right.

Chiefs don’t do deep ball so at least no PI.I hope.

I was hoping to build momentum, 1 at a time.

          • Irish Sweetness

Broncos D is v. good though. I can’t get the image of Smith as a Niner out of my head. He was terrible.

  • BearDown100393

It will be pickle juice squeezed in Seattle.

  • Pissed Off

Well that was far worse than what we saw vs green bay. Its like we took a step back in all areas. I have no idea about this team right now. Cutler being out will hurt but jeez I thought pickles was servicable. We could come out and be competitive vs the hawks and I wouldn’t be surprised but we could lay another egg too. I gotta think Seattle is looking to right the ship this week and are licking their chops.

    • Three-fold why it was worse

      1. No pass rush again, but also ARIZ at this point is more dangerous through the air than GB. Sounds weird, but it’s true. That’s why I was expecting an ariel assault, and that’s what we got. Rodgers is playing with Cobb who had a harness and dudes he’s not used to or didn’t play with in years. We were their warm up.

      2. Once Cutty went down, it was obvious our game-plan went down with him offensively. As someone else said, our best defense was TOP, and when Clausen went 3 and out, no way our D could withstand extra possessions.

      3. Specials teams seemed awful, more so giving up the big play. Also, the offense (Cutler) gave up 6 points, not on the D.

      • Pissed Off

        Agreed….

    • Irish Sweetness

Know who the best rushing team in the NFL is? We are. 4.9 yard average. Who’s 4th best against the pass? We are. Let’s be happy with that for starters

  • “Where is the play-action?” – Jahns

I think that got replaced with the read-option, and given that Cutler was getting chunk yardage and 8-8, it was working. Have we even ran a bootleg?

    • BerwynBomber

The read-option was nice and effective but probably unsustainable over the long haul unless you have a guy like Wilson or Kaepernick taking the snaps. That is not a knock on Cutty. The majority of the NFL starters would get chewed up by it. But 32 year old guy with an average availability/durability? Don’t expect to see too much of it.

  • “Who’s gonna hold the locker together?” Jeff.

Rolle was screaming on the sideline. He was pissed. Let’s see if that transfers over.

    • BerwynBomber

Caught “The Antrel Rolle Show” last Thurs or Fri night on CLTV. Personable guy. Good personality. His dad is an ex-cop, his mom ex-military. Straight arrow dude but not without some self-effacing humor. Embraces the leadership role. Could see why Pox would have been all about him.

Btw, Rolle pretty much called out the D in the press after the game in more a Mike Brown than a Brandon Marshall sort of way. We’ll see if it takes.

      • Rolle has his own show? Huh. I knew he had one when he played in NY, but didn’t know he still did it.
Yeah, by all accounts, he’s a stand up dude. And honestly, I expected him to suck more.
        Hopefully, he’s a keeper.

  • Cubsnlinux

I really hope everyone who thinks Cutler is not an adequate QB to take the Bears to the promised land are watching MNF. Luck threw an INT and near INT that was dropped.

I just don’t see it. Brady/Rodgers he is not but look at the talent level around other average QBs. Good defense, good OL, playmakers all around and Cutler has absolute crap all around him.

    • Trac

It’s not about Cutler anymore. It’s about Fox and Gase saving a franchise.

The McCaskeys know this, it’s the reason they brought in Ernie Accorsi.

    • BerwynBomber

I don’t know if I would call guys like Forte, Bennett, Jeffrey, Long, Royal, Bushrod, Slauson, and Montgomery crap.

      • Pissed Off

But does luck do that every week….no Jay does…luck actually has excellent games on frequent occassions….Jay does not. Hes a decent middle of the pack to below average starting qb Jay has also been around 3 times as long…..I could go on and on this is dumb to even argue

        • BerwynBomber

Agreed. I had this issue with Blogfather last year. He kept pointing out Luck’s mistakes. Fair enough, I said, but look at Luck’s productivity.

That is why I wasn’t on Cutty too much yesterday for his INT. Yes, it was the classic killer INT from Cutty but he had been producing until then, which at least offset it. But he doesn’t produce enough on a consistent basis to excuse his mistakes a’la Luck. If Cutty tossed 35 TDs a year, we could live with the 18 INTs. But, alas, we don’t see that type of productivity.

Btw, Luck is off to horrible start to ’15 but he’ll probably right the ship the next few weeks.

          • Cubsnlinux

Why is that qualified as a “Killer” interception? It is a bad play but why exactly is it so much worse than other interceptions? This is the doom and gloom I don’t understand. We still don’t know if it is all on Cutler. Did that interception gave up all 24 or so points?

          • BerwynBomber

You’re asking why a pick six twelve seconds after the AZ O just scored a TD and took the lead by the seven with 2:00 left in the half was a killer INT?

          • Bear Down in Tampa

It could’ve still been overcome. Look at the Cardinals, Bears hit a FG, KO to Carson Palmer and he throws a pick to Jared Allen. Cutty may or may not have turned it into a TD, but at the very least it’s still a FG but the Bears are down 8 and get the ball coming out of the dressing room. It’s still a winnable game at that point. The interception wasn’t a killer, the injury was. Cutler’s arm gave up 7 but what about the other 41?

          • Irish Sweetness

Exactly. It’s just folk seeing Cutty get an INT and piling on. Luck has nightmare games and it’s all just “growing pains”.

          • I see a lot of Cutty in Luck.
Much like Cutty, many supporters are giving him a pass. Bad coach. bad oline. no run game. Wrong routes.
If Luck keeps it up, he might be this generation’s Cutty. Guy with all the tools, but could never stop turning it over.
I give it two more years before he enters that territory

          • Irish Sweetness

Exactly. It’s just folk seeing Cutty get an INT and piling on. Luck has nightmare games and it’s all just “growing pains”.

        • Cubsnlinux

I am not saying that Cutler is better than Luck. I am just saying that every QB other than a very few throw INTs.

    • Irish Sweetness

      Dude, are you a programmer?

  • Robert L. Wendt

At some point, the Bears will have to start David Fales. Since the Bears are not going to the playoffs
this year, start playing the kids, and see what kind of football players they are. The rebuilding will
    take up to 2 years.

    • AlbertInTucson

Maybe they just don’t want to “Throw him to the wolves” in Seattle.

      • this. You let Clausen get killed in SEA, then give Fales his shot against Oakland at home in week 4.

        • WP34

          Yes

        • BerwynBomber

Agreed but I don’t even know if they will do that. What concerns me is if Fox sees it as white flag-raising among his veterans.

Then again, I suppose if PIckles totally craps the bed in SEA it will give Fox just cause for the move.

        • AlbertInTucson

          My sentiments, exactly, JW.

        • Irish Sweetness

With Ducasse at guard that’s a racing certainty.

Although the Raiders might be better than Seattle at this point.

          • Raiders > Seattle? You are really overreacting to small sample sizes.

        • Huge Bear’s Penis

Pickles will be knocked out with a concussion mid 2nd quarter.

    • BerwynBomber

Well, they don’t “have to” but they probably should. I don’t know why they didn’t let him play the ’14 finale against Minny last year.

      • WP34

        Wasnt tress the coach then

        • BerwynBomber

Yeah, I should have specified the third “they” …

          • WP34

My point is that Tress only cared about his own ass that was on fire, not the Future of the Bears.

  • Did Cutler grow a beard?
Fitzpatrick is airing it out and forcing it into double coverage to Bmarsh (and against Vontae Davis, one of the best CB).

It has already resulted in an INT.

Let’s see if Cutty JR. keeps forcing it to Bmarsh.

    • Waffle

      ?

Luck is the one pissing it away.

      • He is, but Fitzpatrick is forcing it to Bmarsh. You don’t see it?
He finally started hitting Decker after the INT.

        • Waffle

I see.it but I’m partially blinded by 5-14 passing with an int and a fumble

Tirico just gave him a free pass so did chucky

        • MB30SD

          he got a 50 on the wonderlick… A FIFTY!!!

And he has that gorgeous beard!

          • Irish Sweetness

I was harping on Marino for his 15 on the Wonderlic.

Frank Gore got a 6. And I think he operates heavy machinery.

          • Cormonster

A 6 means he is functionally illiterate. He must have went to a Florida school or another SEC college.

          • SC Dave

University of Miami. Say no more?

          • MB30SD

Don’t you get a 3 just for spelling your name without using numbers or symbols?

          • Bear Down in Tampa

Gore went to “the U”. So you sir, are a savant.

          • MB30SD

He’s a haaaaavahd man irish. Skull and dugery and all that. probably has a 7 figure VC gig just waiting for him after he finishes sucking at pro football.

    • willbest

That has been Fitzpatrick MO for a long time. He is a serviceable fantasy QB some years.

    • Irish Sweetness

It’s a thing for SEALs and offensive lineman. It should be a thing for QBs. I wonder what Cutty’s stats are when he’s got a good beard. Data?

  • Waffle

No one holds and interferes more than revis

    • BerwynBomber

Yeah, but all the best B&R corners are a bit physical/grabby. There is an art to it and Revis has it perfected.

    • AlbertInTucson

      Wrong. That’s Richard Sherman’s stock 7 trade.

  • BerwynBomber

Jets have a hellacious D. But damn, investing in all that talent on a team with Fitzpatrick and Geno Smith as your two QBs? Not sure …

    • SC Dave

I think in the modern NFL with the salary cap, you just cant have everything.

The teams that are more than the sum of their parts are the ones that become champions. Of course, it helps to have a bunch of decent to good players on rookie contracts.

      Right Glitchy?
      Right Emery?

  • Waffle

Watching Leonard Williams play for the jets makes me mad

    • BerwynBomber

Vic Beasley for ATL might do that too.

    • we were 1 pick away from both Leonard Williams and Donald.
But no, 3rd rounders are more important.

      • Waffle

That would have been helpful to.turn franchise around

      • willbest

Hey. Sutton is like the 3rd best player on our defense, and the Romanian could be a franchise center.

  • Waffle

    Jets hit like motherfuckers

    • BerwynBomber

      Yeah, they do. Ferocious D.

Btw, wonder if C. Pagano is on the hot seat. Probably helps him to be in a small media market where the outcry will be somewhat muted but gotta imagine Irsay might get restless.

      • willbest

It seems to me that the Colts made the wrong decision, but then I guess the optics of firing a guy recovering from cancer weren’t worth keeping a guy who is in a multiyear hot streak.

  • Waffle

I don’t know if this makes sense but that artificial surface makes the game too fast.

    • BerwynBomber

I never liked it aesthetically but even worse are domes. Something wrong about football indoors.

      • Irish Sweetness

        On carpet …

        • SC Dave

          The worst of all worlds.

  • Rumor is, Irsay’s got a boner for Saban.
After this disaster, he might have him on speed dial, next to his pusher.

    • Bear Down in Tampa

Grigson is the problem, Irsay might want to find a GM before blaming Pagano.

  • Waffle

Haha, grigson looks like he owns a mortgage brokerage in 2004

  • BerwynBomber

Colts might win this if only because the Fitzpatrick-led Jets O is so anemic. A shame too because the Jets D deserves better.

    • Waffle

You know what the narrative will be.

  • BerwynBomber

BMarsh is still a freaking beast. Best WR in Bears history.

  • Waffle

    Marshall. Bastard. Miss that.

    • Meanwhile, Alshon is watching with icy-hot on his hammy.

      • MB30SD

mmmmmmm… icy-hot. Brings back memories… like cut grass on hot days with no breeze.

  • Shady

I like the way the Jets are constructed.

    • BerwynBomber

Yeah, I am wondering … could we actually see a BALT/Dilfer team win an SB in this era. Jets would be that team with Fitzpatrick.

      • Irish Sweetness

I loaded up in fantasy with Jets/Eagles DSTs this year. How can the Jets D fail?

        • willbest

Wouldn’t start anybody against the Patriots or Steelers those offenses are just ridiculous

          • Irish Sweetness

Wit til Ben gets Martavis Bryant and Bell back. They’ll be off the charts. Know idea what’ll happen in the NFC this year, but the Steelers will be there.

        • haha. I was debating between Bmarsh or Cooper for my 2nd WR.

I went with upside over consistent. They both did well this week, but I don’t remember the last time Bmarsh burned someone on a 60yd route.

          #youth

          • Irish Sweetness

Dude, I picked up Benjamin everywhere last week. That guy is putting up video game numbers.

          • He’s BOUND to suck again. He has like what, 6 catches in the last two games, but like 4 TDs and huge bombs.

Johhny is looking his way though on those bombs.

Personally, I don’t like the DeSean Jackson type WRs.

Give me volume and playmaking ability over one hit wonders.

          • Bear Down in Tampa

I call it the Bernard Berrian effect, see Grossman, Rex.

          • Pissed Off

That will settle down he only has like 3 grabs per week what happens when he doesn’t get a td which he won’t every week he is a sucker pick up at this point imo

        • BerwynBomber

Injuries. We also have to see how they stack up against NE. BUF’s D has looked awesome the last season or so and then Brady and Belichick clowned them at BUF.

    • having a true lock-down CB an playmakers on D helps.
That’s why I don’t get why they didn’t just trade for Cutty.
      Mo-Wilkerson and a 2nd would’ve been about fair.

      • Shady

Why do you insist every team needs or wants to trade for Cutler?

        • Not every team, but the Jets would’ve been better with Cutty.
They might compete against Colts, but no way is Fitz going to beat the 500 pound gorilla in the Pats.

Once I saw Thyrod Taylor, I scratched the Bills off cuz he seems to have some promise.

Dallas SHOULD at least inquire about Cutler, but I doubt it.
          Haven’t mentioned the Saints yet.

You cursed both of them by drafting them lol

        • AlbertInTucson

And it’s not just a matter of bodies and / or picks. It’s Contracts and cap space.

        • Pissed Off

There are maybe a handful of teams that would take him over their current situation and none that would take him over their current situation at his salary and with his baggage

      • Irish Sweetness

I think they would have taken Cutler in a heartbeat but he just wasn’t on the table. They had to split up the bromance though. Brandon wouldn’t have been much used to us with Claws at the helm anyway. With Jay’s apparent improvement, I think they made the right call in retrospect, even though Brandon was my favorite Bear.

  • Waffle

    My bad

    Football is a team game.

  • BerwynBomber

Not to ignite any HC buyer’s remorse — and hey, Fox is a solid hire by all accounts — but two young guns with defensive pedigree, Bowles and Quinn, will have their teams at 2-0 after two weeks.

    • Waffle

      Who is Quinn?

      • BerwynBomber

Dan Quinn. HC of ATL was SEA’s DC last year.

        • MB30SD

you’re better than this. Look up Fox’ career record when getting to a new team.

I’ll take the known quantity any day given where we’ve been. Next year and thereafter you’re going to be licking his balls like the rest of us baby

          • BerwynBomber

Nah, I get the reason for the hire after Trestman. Just saying the new kids look decent so far.

          • MB30SD

they always do when you’re getting your ass kicked.

          • Irish Sweetness

Yup. Foxy took over a train wreck, and I already like what I see. It’s a hottie with braces and a couple of pounds to lose.

          • Bear Down in Tampa

Only if there’s Peanut Butter on them…

          • MB30SD

so you have a dog huh?

    • willbest

Bowles inherited a solid defense. Quinn a solid offense. Fox/Gases actually managed to cobble together a solid O from what we had, but there was just way too much to do on D and ST.
And then we drew Packer/Cards. Jets got Browns/Indy, and Falcons got Eagles/Giants

    • is this you saying that Bowles and Quinn would have turned Fuller and Ball into football players? that they would have turned Shea into Singeltary? Bostic into Briggs?

  • Waffle

Hmmmm, I stand corrected. Chucky and tirico have absolved Mr. Luck.

He is once again elite and officially leads the league in turnovers over past year and first 2 games.

Don’t fucking tell me a guy like luck can fix bears type bad by themselves. No one can

    • Shady

      “My bad guys.”

      • Waffle

Colts played like shit. Jets offense played fucking terrible. Still, I managed to watch whole game. Football is crack.

        • Shady

Watching the Jets defense get after Luck was entertaining. They are a physical team and it really shows against a finesse team like Indy.

          • Waffle

Jets D line is embarrassment of.riches. stud corners, solid lbs, hitting safeties. Oh well

          • Bear Down in Tampa

I feel like they pick a front 7 player in the 1st round every year and since they’re always picking ahead of us we get screwed. Leonard Williams and Quenton Coples are a couple of recent examples. Can you imagine this defense with Aaron Donald (Kyle Fuller was picked instead), Leonard Williams (Kevin White) and Quenton Coples (Shea McClellin)? They wouldn’t suck donkey balls, I can tell you that right now.

        • willbest

You take that back. Decker was my Alshon Jeffery replacement. He delivered.

  • Colt’s moral of the story. Build the trenches.
How did those 3 WRs help out Luck?

    • BerwynBomber

Gotta give Blogfather a nod there. He’s been talking how atrocious the Colts O-line is for sometime.

Still, some of it has to be attributed to the Jets D. They can ball.

      • I think everyone was surprised that they didn’t upgrade their Oline. I guess they figure Luck can take the hits or improvise.

But we saw last season how those hits accumulate with Cam. he looked all beat up. Cam looks a lil better this year, but we’ll see how he holds up long term.

Instead of getting Andre Johnson and old man Gore, they should”ve got an OG or two, not to mention drafting an Olinemen instead of Dorsett.

I think tonight proved the old maxim. trenches.

  • Irish Sweetness

    1. What does it mean when a CB is “at a crossroads” exactly ?

    2. Kyle can’t get called for holding anybody with his hand inside an oven mit.

    3. Andrew Luck is “elite” but is also the turnover king of the NFL. 5 for him in 2 weeks. 10 for the team. Cutty plays lights out, throws two picks in two weeks, but he’s still the league asshole, and the highlights begin with his interception. Fabiano has a kitten over it – the same guy who advised FFers to start Andre Johnson against the Chiefs last week when AJ plays for the Colts. The guy didn’t know AJ had moved teams.

    • willbest

      1) It means they need to find a zone team willing to take him.
      2) but he can get called for club to the face, and false start. Also, I consider it a good hold/block in the back if it saves the QB from getting strip sacked which Cutty is prone to
      3) Cutler’s problem is perception. That and he doesn’t play in the AFCS. Don’t get me wrong. I like Luck, and there is a lot of talent there and he could be the next Manning/Brady. But a lot of what makes him look good is that the AFCS has been like the JV league of the NFL for the last decade.

    • BerwynBomber

Luck is about production. Thus far not this year but he is usually like Rivers, Romo and even Brees to a degree. They make mistakes but they put up huge #s. Cutty doesn’t put up huge #s. But he makes the mistakes.

I don’t get this whole Cutler/Luck comparison. Do we really think they are comparable talents/players?

      • Irish Sweetness

Oh, Luck will be fine, it just bums me when they all gang up on Cutty for throwing one, but if a media darling Luck has a nightmare, it’s all white-washed.

      • 7source7

I think perhaps the Luck/Cutler comparisons have to do with Luck’s performance this year. Do you think the Colt’s blogs are calling for his head and to draft a new QB?

  • John Doe

    ESPN Stats & InfoVerified account‏@ESPNStatsInfo
Highest % chance to have the No. 1 pick in the 2016 draft according to FPI:

    Bears (22%)
    Raiders (15%)
    Bucs (13%)
    Browns (11%)
    Jags (7%)

    • If Brees is down for the Aints, they should be higher/lower than the Bears.

      • Huge Bear’s Penis

Luke McCown is his backup, he looked good in the Verizon commercials.

    • Irish Sweetness

The Raiders??? They just beat Baltimore!
The Browns??? Travis Benjamin is a stud. Johnny Football might just be … Johnny Football!

Yeah, I could go with the Jags.

    • Big Mike

It’s a bad football team, it will get better but will still be lucky to get 6 wins.

  • Irish Sweetness

In case it gets lost down the thread, your Chicago Bears are the best at running the ball in the NFL. 4.9 AVG. We are the BEST.

    We’re 4th best against the pass, yardage-wise.

    • Bear Down in Tampa

The yardage stat is misleading, The Cardinals and Packers had very long PI calls drawn against our CB shtishow which doesn’t show up in the yardage stat but absolutely shows up in our allowing almost 40 PPG.

  • Martin K Johnson

Its week 2 and you guys already throwing in the towel. We got time to right the ship and be respectable.

    • The GP

Did we quit when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!

  • Carl LaFong

What is all this bullshit here about Monday Night Football? And the loads of stuff before the season began…So now we look to some positive stats and … season over…
God Chicago for seventy-five years has never relented in sports depression of one kind or another…
We win and then it’s funk time for any number of years…
Ok – I’ll go take some more Xanax now.

  • The GP

    Nice game Sac

    • Trac

I saw that. Too bad I blew my high score on a bad opponent.

  • Big Mike

I’m sad. My offseason lack of enthusiasm… (I wont say pessimism) is in the process of being confirmed. This team just doesn’t have enough talent. Cutler is Cutler. Plays great, runs read option, executes well and then he throws a pic 6. A terribly thrown ball and compounds the error going balls to the wall to make a play. You have to love the competitiveness, if not the decision. Bears backup “forgot how to play football”. We very well could be 0-6 and the bye week. Seahawks – Away, Raiders, (both with a back up QB) Chiefs- away, Lions-Away? Hopefully the games can be competitive.
