Chicago Bears Open Preseason Tonight With Meaningless Contest Against Miami Dolphins

| August 13th, 2015

BearsDolphins1985_zpsac066e3d

Things you can actually watch tonight if you have very little else to do:

  • Every person in Bourbonnais has mentioned Willie Young’s struggles to adapt to a new role in the defense. Might be interesting to see just how long the coaching staff leaves Young on the field. (This also begs the question, as many have asked, why don’t the Bears simply shop Young to a straight-forward 4-3 team with an edge rush need? What’s the purpose of having him go through this adaptation?)
  • Is anyone convinced Jordan Mills will be the starting right tackle after Labor Day? Might be interesting to see who plays well at the tackle spot once the starters have left the field, hopefully after 3 plays.
  • Is this Shea McClellin stuff real?
  • Injuries. Injuries are the only significant element of preseason games. Anybody who tells you otherwise is selling you something.

Enjoy.

  • Trac

You could have used a different picture Jeff. Shame on you.

Duh duh dah! Bring on da games!

    • DocNitty(BallsStillOrnamental)

For once, I agree with Trac. For shame, blogfadder.

      • Trac

Phew, I thought I had been slipping lately Doc. Hee hee

      • Waffle

preseason record means nothing but solidifying positions and developing the roster means everything….so the preseason does mean something….sometimes…I guess. Kind of?

        • DocNitty(BallsStillOrnamental)

To those of us who are football starved (did we even have a season last year?), preseason is everything!

BTW. Have you ornamentalized your balls yet? Has your wife had the third kid yet?

          • Waffle

third kid is 5 months old. He’s too fricking cute. Always smiling at me.
Balls are still armed and usually launch ready. I do fake it sometimes….

          • DocNitty(BallsStillOrnamental)

Holy crap! 5 months? Wow. I guess I haven’t been around as much lately. Time flies. Well…belated congratulations, friend.

            snip snip

          • Waffle

no snippy for me. The thought of it makes my mouth water in that pre-puke way and not in the awesome i’m about to have portillos type way.

    • Joecashflow

Yeah that one still hurts. Rivalries. I like it, Jeff.

  • willbest

So you just got through talking about the preseason determining if last years best pass rusher, and starting RT for the two previous years end up with jobs and then follow it up with saying it is only important if someone gets hurt

  • Waffle

haha, it’s only truly meaningless if this game tonight was called Soccer.

    • Trac

Hahaha. I love Soccer though. Athletes every one of them.

      • Waffle

i like womens soccer because they don’t complain and fake like little bitches.

        • Trac

          Lol.

        • willbest

          Do they get substitutions?

          • Waffle

I know nothing about the rules of the game besides basic offsides, handball and basic contact rules but I do find it truly entertaining when you see a guy go down and then the replay shows that the place of the injury would be completely different if the injury actually had happened.

          • Sactowns#1

It’s a horrible sport that my parents made me play for two years before they would allow me to play football. It’s mind numbingly simplistic. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a Labrador retriever? Just play soccer.

          • Trac

Only athletes need apply Sac. Hee hee.

Seriously though, one thing I noticed that America does not do, is teach the technical aspect of the game to the kids like other Soccer loving nations do. Conditioning in the US is pretty piss poor too.

          • Johnnywad

Which totally explains their recent world championship.

          • Trac

I’m talking about at the middle school level. Did you know that in other countries 14, 15, and 16 year old soccer player are shipped off to soccer club farm systems. It’s not unusual for junior soccer players to be sold to other clubs for hundreds of thousands of dollars. The women’s programs and men’s programs in other countries are two totally different animals.

          • Waffle

When I was 9 my coach, who played in college, took my friend Dan and I aside and explained the concept of making a run down the sideline.
We would take turns fucking around with the ball drawing the other team further and further from their own goal and then one of us would just take off down the sidelines and the other would just absolutely bomb it resulting in a one on one with the goalie maybe 9 to 15 times a game.
Needless to say the opposing teams parents were none too pleased to watch their little ones get demolished by 7 to 10 goals every game.
            #strategyagainst9yrolds

    • Huge Bear’s Penis
  • DaBearsBlog

Because nothing that happens tonight will influence these things.

    • If, say, Washington looks like a beast while Sutton looks like a bum, it might start tilting the coach’s mind.

Not saying it will totally win over a coach, but PS is cumulative. It’s all about trust with coaches, and PS reveals to them a few things that build up that trust (who doesn’t fuck up. who’s conditioned. who can transfer technique and assignment on gameday, etc). and therefore, keep players, which in turn matters.

Granted, it’s only the first PS game, but football baby!

  • Big Mike

Can Zach Miller shine and stay healthy?

    • Waffle

i don’t even want to see him out there. He’s a known quantity. If he is out there and gets fucking rolled up on while blocking for some 4th string running back i’ll be disappointed.

Not really because Zach Miller is the Truth but because we don’t have any depth at the position.

      • Big Mike

If he’s already earned a spot, I’m 100% in agreement. Treat him like a starter. He’s shown me he is an NFL grade TE.

        • Waffle

well, at least an NFL grade receiving TE.

          • Big Mike

That’s enough to be on the 53

          • Waffle

not according to the TE’s coach….
He will get hurt blocking on a draw or something dumb.

          • Big Mike

Then he needs to be on the field earning a spot.

    • DaBearsBlog

      He can definitely shine.

  • Irish Sweetness

Dude, I know I didn’t just see that screen grab …..

I want to see Tayo, Amos and Terry Williams make a name for themselves in PS …. and it will be interesting to see if Ryan Fitzpatrick can make magic with our Brandon.

    • BerwynBomber

Fitzpatrick? Meh. He has a chance to become the first QB since the merger to start for five different teams and not have a winning record for any of them.

      • Irish Sweetness

The Jets have an actual chance of winning games now. That defense is smokin.

      • Huge Bear’s Penis

i am with you BB. but Irish has had a boner for him for a long time cuz he is smart.

        • BerwynBomber

Well, in fairness to IS, we all have are “against [my] better judgment” guys.

    • Sactowns#1

The QB who is really going to shine this year is the guy we should have drafted in 2014, J.G.

  • BearDown100393

Seems reasonable to suspect this game isn’t meaningless for players on the cut bubble.

    • DaBearsBlog

“The cut bubble” is about 6 guys.

  • John Doe

Need a good back up QB. All the reports from camp so far have been that Jimmy Clausen has been bad this year.

I wouldn’t mind trading Willie Young and Will Sutton to Tampa Bay for Mike Glennon.

Mike Glennon can be a serviceable starter in the league..especially in a run heavy offense. And it will eliminate the need to invest a top pick for QB in 2016 draft.

    • Bear Down in Tampa

I would want to send Willie over to an AFC team, Jags maybe? Pats?

    • willbest

Only if your plan is to roll with Cutler next year. Mike Glennon is going to make a fine backup QB in the NFL.

      • BerwynBomber

He could serve as a bridge guy, and probably an affordable one. Would also come down to what the coaches think they have in Young and Sutton.

  • BerwynBomber

It is not meaningless to the guys at the middle/bottom of the depth chart.

    • Scharfinator

Yeah, the 3rd and 4th quarters are always the most interesting to me. Especially during pre-season, just for a different reason. Seeing who makes the cut!

    • Trac

I know, Jeff’s heartless indifference to the preseason is causing little children to lose hope all across the country. He he

      • DaBearsBlog

Every. Single. Year. I look forward to it now.

  • Irish Sweetness

Finally on youtube. The Arizona miracle game. I only ever listened to it live on the internet. Interesting that on Hester’s punt return TD, it was Brownie that made one of the initial blocks near our goal line, and he made the last block near theirs.

    • Trac

One of the most memorable games I ever watched.

      • DocNitty(BallsStillOrnamental)

We agree twice in one thread!!!

        What is happening to me?

        • Trac

Ha, tis the season doc. See how I did that?

    • beninnorcal

Loved this game. Insane game was played by none other than #54. Had like 20 tackles and a ff. I also distinctly remember him sprinting down the field throwing blocks for Hester on one of those returns, way downfield too. Vintage Urlacher.
I read somewhere that this game was the biggest comeback in league history without scoring an offensive TD.

      • beninnorcal

That Urlacher block may have been on Tillman’s fumble recovery TD

    • interesting tidbit i just learned from watching 2nd half of the game:

Matt Leinart was the first qb in NFL history to throw 2 1st quarter TDs in his first 2 NFL games. So he’s got that going for him, which is nice.

  • Trac

Not only did this broad fake having cancer but she did a dam good job faking being a beauty queen as well. Butta bing, butta bang!

    http://wnep.com/2015/08/11/beauty-queen-accused-of-faking-cancer/

  • beninnorcal

I was thinking of paying the 30 bucks or whatever to get the nfl.com preaseason pass but now it’s in some package called nfl live and it’s 100 bucks. That’s not happening.
Any internet wizards on here thinking about linking the game in the comments or steering folks like me toward a virus-free solution?

    • There’s always FirstRow, though last time I put up links, they were erased (guess Jeff doesn’t want to get in trouble). This message will self-destruct in 5 seconds….

    • check out nfl livestreams subreddit once the games are starting up. not a redditer? SIMPLE! just google nfl streams reddit and you should be golden.

  • Waffle

I officially put the text in to the wife. “babe, working late, home around 10”
    mwah hahahahaha!

  • FF ALERT OK jabrones, it’s that time again – Football biatches! So instead of trying to spam the shit last minute, I’m gonna ask for playas ahead of time.

Run-down. ESPN. Two-QB, lots of points madness. Auction, Basically all DA Blog regs. Draft will likely take place right after the 3rd or 4rth PS game or there abouts (hey, ur watching the game, so you should be free). No punter this yr though.

Shady will be defending his title. Other dudes who were in it last year. GP, Artoo, Ender, Tradewind, MBHP, NBIT, Sac, Scharf, Frank, Tobi, and moi.

It was a good league – everyone pretty much stuck it out even though they weren’t in the championship, but as always, my league is first come first serve (Irish, Murph, Data and a few others I forgot play FF, get some!)

I basically need your emails (to send the invite) if you’re interested, so post them here (and when I say I got it, erase it).

I might have a few emails left over from the previous years, so if you’re interested and sent me one before, I can check my contacts.

Alrighty. Back to your usual scheduled program.

Bear down! Football is back. Yeeehaaaaww….

    • Trac

I prefer simple snake FF, no stupid add ons. I can’t be bothered with all the extra rules. Just.my.opinion.

      • The only add on is two QB and a bit more points (for instance, if a Defense gets a safety, I award more points. Same for KO/PR that score, stuff like that. Nothing TOO exotic.)

Auction is the way to go though. It’s waaay more fun seeing Johhny run out of money after acquiring 3 bears players in a bidding war! bwhhahahah

        • Trac

I have a hard enough time remembering to update my teams every week. The love is gone. After winning nothing for winning in leagues year after year, it kinda isnt worth the time and effort.

          • EnderWiggin

Talkin shit and you ain’t even playing?!

          • EnderWiggin

It is time to put no money where your mouth is.

          • Trac

            Hahaha

          • haha your reward will be actually beating us. We got some pretty good players. I doubt you’d win the championship.

            challenge accepted? bwhaha

          • Trac
          • Got it. You may erase it from the interwebs. Think of a cool bears based name now!

    • Sactowns#1

You already got my email and I’m all the way down.

      • Yes, I do have yours sac. I just went through the contacts I had buried in my emails.
I’ll keep a spot for you.

    • EnderWiggin

I want in if you gots da room!

      • Got yours, ender. And you def got the funniest email handle lol

I’m gonna automatically include Erik also, whether he likes it or not.

        • EnderWiggin

If you sent the email I think I missed it. Did you send it to burntcrazy?

    • Waffle
    • MikeBrownhadaPosse

      Yup

      • Do I have your email, MBP?
sometimes blogger’s email have diff handle then their blog handle.
you can just tell me what letter your email starts with and I can check if it’s on my email

        • MikeBrownhadaPosse

    • I think I just thought of my FF team name….

      • yeah, I still got room, though it’s filling up quickly.

        • 505Bears

          Cool, I’m down then

          • I’m gonna send the invites a little later, probably after the game
            It’ll be fun, trust me.

          • 505Bears

            Right on, right on…Much appreciated

  • Sactowns#1

SEASON IS STARTING!!!!!! AAGHHHHHH! So who all is down to go to the MNF game in San Diego? I know myself and a couple of my loyal Bears fans friends are going so it would be dope if we could all meet up and tailgate beforehand. Let me know.

  • Whoever plays a lot = cut bubble.

  • Damn, Hilton got PAID. I think it’s a bit high for him which is not necessarily good news for Bears’ office.
Go through those comments and peak at our future with Alshon. The Colts were almost in the same scenario as us. Last year of 3rd rd rook contract. Just drafted a high WR…

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/08/13/colts-announce-long-term-contract-with-t-y-hilton/

  • What ole Butch is looking forward too cuz I’ve been a monk in a lingerie show since Decemeber…

    1. Is Langford the real-deal, yo? How is Jizz, Carey, Daniel gonna respond.

    2. The annual Bass-Washington crossing your finger watch

    3. Just how bad is our secondary? Lots of ifs…keen eye on Jean-Louis, Hurst and McManis who should get some reps

    4. Will Miller rock it again, only for a meteor to take out his ACL?

    5. Clausen-Fales-Carden (I think Fales has been inj, so we might get a long look at Carden).

    6. Are any of those FA vet min guys worth a shit?

    7. Will our bigboys gas out like marathoners at fatcamp?

    • Waffle

I think Alan Ball might be able to help out. Tracy Porter is hurt again so him not so much.

      • I was gonna list Alan Ball, but I don’t know how much we’ll see of him tonight considering he’s been inj prone.

He was also listed as S, so it should be interesting to see where he ends up.

    • SC Dave

I’d like to see Bass make the team. Washington means nothing to me.

  • BerwynBomber

Which channel is televising the game in the Chicago area?

    • DaMurph

      FOX

      • BerwynBomber

        Thanks

  • Huge Bear’s Penis

fucking cable. every year the cable company loses connection to the Bears preseason feed.

  • RenoBear

Well from looking at the play by play feed, I see not much has changed yet. Defense gives up 14 play 85 yd TD drive then offense gets the ball first and ten,Mills false start Bears go three and out. Sweet. A nice dash of reality

  • Finally. A lil creativity on O. Some shot-gun read option with Jizz slashing thru the interior. Bears using Fin’s playbook against them.

McManis made a nice play on the ball, anticipating and reading the QB.

LBs still a huge liability in the pass.

    Run D up and down.

    Pass rush just down.

    Safeties lost. What’s new?

  • Once again, Cutler misses wide open HB underneath. Goes for it all with Bennett

    • Trac

Gotta remember it’s preseason. No risks too great when the games don’t count. Still, it would be nice to see a methodical drive resulting in a TD.

      • It would be nice to get into those habits though. Lanford was wide open for like 8 yds. Instead, he chucks it into a tight window to Bennett.

I know it’s PS and all, but I’d like to see Cutler take what the D gives him regardless.

        • Trac

          I’m with you.

  • BearDown100393

False Start. Offense. On the Center. Yep.

    • Keeping the tradition alive

      • BearDown100393

To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.

  • Irish Sweetness

Is this what blocking looks like? Go Jock-squeeze!

  • Midfield Mariani! living up to his name.
    Too bad there was holding.

If Mariani were actually fast, he’d be really good.

  • Grasu just got driven back about 5 yds right into Lanford.

Hope he doesn’t turn into a younger Garza…

    • willbest

Garza was decent in his youth.

      • Yeah, esp when he played OG, but I want someone more dominate on the Oline.
Oh well. Could be worse. Like a young Webb or Carimi…

  • willbest

Is Forte out just cause he is Forte, or because he has an injury.

    • BerwynBomber

      Forte

  • Jack Lacan

The “new” Bears play book is as long as David Foster Wallace’s – Infinite Jest.

    • BearDown100393

      Makes a great paperweight.

  • BerwynBomber

Rosen and Miller are better than half the announcing crews we were cursed with last year. David Diehl may have been the worst analyst/color guy I have ever heard.

    • beninnorcal

Agreed on Diehl being awful. Probably mor of the same for our Bears this year.

  • Terry Williams in. Dunn shed OG nicely to stuff the run. Ball all over the route.
LBs still can’t cover for shit.

    • BerwynBomber

Yep, my general impression is the DL and secondary look improved but the LBs haven’t done anything except for Jones. Oh well. Way, way, way early of course.

    • EnderWiggin

Looks like Foster is better than Chicken Dinner. Also wonder if Bushrod’s back is 100%. That is all I got so far. Nothing else is standing out.

      • One thing I noticed about Chicken Dinner is he was really making the calls and adjustments, but his play looks about the same.
Both Bushrod and Mills looked a bit over powered, but the Fins’ Dline is no joke either.

  • BearDown100393

The offense is in mid season form already.

  • 2 minute drill. This really tests who on D is digesting the playbook, and who has instincts and stamina.

    • EnderWiggin

So far, Defensive instincts go to Amos and Allen… Did I used to eat a cookie named Amos and Allen?

    • BearDown100393

      Flag. Defense.

  • EnderWiggin

Who is wearing the NFL caps arguing with Fox?

    • BearDown100393

      Balls inflator?

      • EnderWiggin

        LOL.

  • Acho Libre!

    Intense too. Me likery.

  • BearDown100393

Preseason Game#1. Half-Time. Soldier Field boos. Oh boy.

  • BerwynBomber

What Minny road game is Miller talking about? Pickles started against DET and it was at Soldier.

    • Hit Miller time too early, I guess.

      • Shady

Sam Rosen thinks Patrick Mannelly is still long snapping.

        • BearDown100393

So I did not imagine that huh?

          • Shady

After a commercial, he apologized for confusing O’Donnell with Mannelly.

        • bwhaha

  • BerwynBomber

Let the Shane Carden Era begin!

  • SLOPPY.

Clausen has to chuck that in the end zone or out of bounds.

    Oh well.

  • MIA looks like a team that is win now mode.
We look like a team overhauled.

    Both are true.

I’m looking at more at individuals like Grasu, Washington, Acho.

Al Louis had a rough half.

    • EnderWiggin

Acho (bless you), looks very fast.

      • Compact too. Granted, his sack was vs a 2nd string TE, but I’ll take it.
WR Lawrence (pan to Full Metal Jacket) also wins the Joe Anderson PS trophy thus far.

  • EnderWiggin

Is M. Wilson nervous? He should be.

    • BerwynBomber

Because of the kid from NW?

Btw, had no idea Wilson was 6’4″. He plays small if that is his actual height.

      • EnderWiggin

Yeah, I don’t care if Wilson is 10 feet tall. Lawrence looks good.

  • BerwynBomber

McManis and Ball have made a couple of nice plays tonight. CB depth suddenly looks good.

    • McManis has impressed me since last season. He has a nose for the ball and is a special teams demon.
      Kinda reminds me of Graham.

But he needs to improve his cover skills.

  • Acho with the pressure again. He looks like a bowling ball out there.

  • Trac

Look on the bright side, only given up 10 points so far. If the D can keep us close this year, the Bears could have a Cinderella season.

    • The first team Fins O looked like it could move the ball at will and got big chunks fast.
Then again, Fangio’s strength is scheme and blitzing, which we’re not doing in PS

  • Clausen is money on those crossing routes.
Maybe we can take Cutler out when we need those

    • BerwynBomber

Clausen is decisive, which is smart considering his natural abilities aren’t all that.

  • BerwynBomber

Nothing against Pickles but I have seen enough/know what we have. Put in Carden. Bears might be the only team in the league sticking with their second-string this long. Did Fox coach Pickles in CAR?

  • Irish Sweetness

    Grassu is an animal!

    Jimmy looks sharp, doesn’t he?

McManis, Ball and Mitchell’s stock rises, but oh my Louis Jean, bye bye – take Mills and Leno with you.

Even Carey looks good behind that line, esp with Grassu in at C.

  • EnderWiggin

Calling O’Donnell “Mannelly” is one thing. Calling the Bears “The Rangers” takes face-palm to a whole new level.
I’m in favor of making it legal, but don’t smoke that stuff before a broadcast.

    • Shady

He 70. Almost. A pro but he’s slippin jimmy.

      • BerwynBomber

Yep, I have always liked Sam but he’s up there in years and he and Miller are in first game pre-season mode. I still say they are better than any announcing team involving David Diehl, whom for whatever reason, Fox employed nationally last year and seemed to land three or four of games.

        • RenoBear

Yes… Couldn’t stand that guy, he is BRUTAL in the broadcast booth

  • Irish Sweetness

    Cameron Meredith.

    • Shady

Funny, I know a Meredith Cameron.

  • Irish Sweetness

Jimmy Clausen is a good quarterback.

    • BearDown100393

      Against scrubs.

  • BerwynBomber

    We’re a juggernaut, baby!

    • EnderWiggin

Our sideline is pumped. I love it.

  • Carey running with vision and aggressiveness.
He must know he’s battling Jizz for a roster spot.

Clausen smart. Noticed the Fins jumping the count, changed it up, drew them off-sides, set up the TD run.
Those lil details count (He also should’ve had another TD but the WR dropped the slant.)

Ting? It’s always a good idea to have a Samoan on D.

  • BerwynBomber

Would not be surprised if our starting LB crew flips a bit throughout the season. A couple of the depth guys have looked as good as the starters.

  • I know this is only a PS game, but man O man do we need some playmaking and a victory to get some of that stench off from last season.

    At Soldier Field to bout!

  • Irish Sweetness

Clausen gets football. We’ll be okay.

    • He sorta reminds me of Alex Smith.
      Conservative, savvy, small ball QB

      • Irish Sweetness

        Small ball. Smart ball.

        GO BEARS !!

    • BearDown100393

      A poor man’s Neckbeard.

  • Shady

    Sneezy!

  • Irish Sweetness

Fox needs to put Fales in before people realise Clausen is better than Cutler.

  • EnderWiggin

    Blogfather’s Tweet : Illegally.
I think it is legal to watch the game. Just illegal to host it.
    I hope.

  • Washington looks like an animal.

  • Irish Sweetness

PS or not, I’m loving this. Lots to like about our team.

  • Irish Sweetness

    Jonathon Anderson. Welcome.

  • Irish Sweetness

Can’t wait to see this team next year. Fox will put us right there.

    • EnderWiggin

      Woooooah!
Trac is already talking about a Cinderella season.
      Slow down!

      • Irish Sweetness

We have a roster. I’m pumped. Guys are stepping up, and they’re not starters.

      • Trac

Hahahaha. A girl can dream can’t she?

  • BerwynBomber

Not to read too much into this (but to read too much into this), I wonder if this game suggests that POX would have preferred to totally start from scratch (if they could have).

The non-starters have played like it is the post-season.

    • EnderWiggin

They are going 110% every play, they are having fun, they are celebrating and coaching each other up. I am loving the feel of our sideline.
I see what you are saying, we need our 1st sting to give us this vibe.

      • Couldn’t agree more with both of you guys.
That’s exactly what I was thinking too.

Just more energy. The first team played more tentatively.

      • willbest

They are going 110% because its their livelihood and if not with the Bears some other team or a midseason replacement in which they can earn $35k a week instead of $2k a week.

        • Trac

          Buzzkill.

        • BerwynBomber

Of course but they completely outplayed Miami’s second and third units. I assume you think Miami’s non-starters were going 110% too, correct?

  • Irish Sweetness

    Shane Carden is beautiful.

  • Irish Sweetness

See Abdullah for the lions? He looks good. I was in one draft where some dude picked him with the very first pick.

  • Shady

I hate to say it, but don’t let the final score fool you. This thing does not look promising.

    • Irish Sweetness

I think there’s lots to look forward to. And I hope Perry makes it. Dolphins have a solid D roster.

      • Trac

Heck yeah, I can’t wait for next week, and the week after that, and the week after that, and then there’s the week after that…..

    • Someone on D has to step up and rush the passer. McPhee didn’t look impressive tonight.

Without that one pass rusher offenses must fear, the opposing O will simply dink-dunk it right by our LBs.

      Mills looks done.

    • Trac

Well, you ain’t no Joshua are you? He he.

    • BearDown100393

The Bears will be epic in garbage time.

    • Trac

Top 2 WR’S not starting had a lot to do with that.

  • BerwynBomber

Josh Freeman … that’s a dude whose stock has absolutely plummeted in a few years.

    • AlbertInTucson

Can you say “Psychological Issues” boys and girls?

      • Joecashflow

You guys are serious blog gaters. 8 hours before game time. Impressive.just finished watching on NFL gamepass. Overall liked the attitude on the field and on the bench. Secondary played it close and there some nice pops by the D tonight. I think we may see several changes in first team D, for next game. “The players decide who starts”. Clausen does not throw a deposit ball, so in regular season defenses would bunch it in on him. S. Perry stepped it up.

  • Irish Sweetness

Well that was a ball of fun. The ‘camp bodies’ stepped it up. New names like Jonathon Anderson. Timu. Meredith. McManis looked great. Ball showed up. Acho. Perry showed great burst. Carey. Williams was disruptive. Grasu looks like a beast in the run game.

There was a lot to like. The roster for a SB run is being built, we’re gettting better …

… and how about Jimmy Clausen?

  • Joecashflow

We may have seen the last pass of Josh Freeman’s career.

    • beninnorcal

I did a double-take when he was out there on my crappy illegal feed. I saw him and thought ‘Is that Josh Freeman?’

    • BearDown100393

      What career?

  • Trac

How many times do I have to tell you Jeff, Golf is not a sport. Smh.

    @dabearsblog
Golf continues to be only sport on earth not trying to increase content, resigned to just not show half rounds of MAJORS

  • Trac

Well said Mr. Forte, well said.

    http://espn.go.com/chicago/nfl/story/_/id/13432579/chicago-bears-matt-forte-says-brandon-marshall-somes-hold-accountable-last-season

Marshall ought not to have think as highly of himself as he does. In most cases, when some one tries to tear down someone else, all they’re really trying to do is elevate themselves.

I’m glad Matty finally spoke up.

  • Trac

Very interesting. Of all the QB’S Briggs played with on the Bears, the only 2 he said he never wanted to punch was Kyle Orton and Brian Griese. I have always wondered what the Bears could have done if they had kept Orton instead of trading for Cutler. Alas, we will never know.

    http://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/7/71/875949/caleb-hanie-throws-punch-line-lance-briggs

    • Waffle

people have a selective memory about Orton. It’s amusing.

      • Trac

It has nothing to do with Jay and everything to do with the fact I had a man crush on Orton. Always felt he never got the chance to remain the starter anywhere he’s gone because he doesn’t have the flashy arm.

        • Waffle

Trac, do you even remember the offensive line and running game we had back in those years? It was SOLID at every line position. Teams had to account for the fact that we could get tough yards on the ground when needed.

Not to mention the consistent and productive D?

          • Trac

            Don’t care!!!!

I love me some neckbeard. Lol

          • Waffle

Trac, he had the lowest rating of any qualified QB’s in 2005. Was pedestrian in almost all other victories. Had 3 prolific games as a Bear and now is somehow enshrined in Bears lore. I call that the Jim Miller effect.

          • Waffle

lol, Briggs needs to fucking throw on some game tape and refresh his memory.

          • Trac

            I hear you.

          • Bear Down in Tampa

Specifically that Bengals game from 2005. Here let me help.

            http://espn.go.com/nfl/boxscore?gameId=250925003

To be fair to Kyle tho, he was only a rook and that was only his 3rd start. I think he had the makings of a solid game manager and with an elite D, could have got a ring Dilfer style.

          • Trac

If Orton started in place of Grossman in the SB, Halas Hall would have 2 shiny Lombardi Trophys in the Lobby and you can take that to the bank.

          • MikeBrownhadaPosse

Or if Lovie woulda gone with the hot hand as opposed to trotting out Ced “2 yards and fall on my face” Benson.

          • Trac

I just loved the kids heart. What’s so wrong with that? He was a heady QB that was loved by his teammates.

          • Waffle

i agree with the heart comment but unfortunately can’t stand by while some on this blog gold plate their memories of him and ascribe achievements and attributes that he simply did not have as a Bear.

          • Trac

Nowhere have I ever posted that he was even a talented QB. Just a scrapper.

          • Waffle

haha, i was definitely pointing that comment to Irish!

          • Trac

            Gotcha. Hahahaha

    • DaMurph

The same thing every other team that had him did, NOTHING!

      • Trac

Lol. He never was given any role except bridge or backup.

    • Joecashflow

I read that differently. He liked to punch them, when they were playing against the Bears, with the exception of one who caused the D to be on the field too long. Then media boys took over and made it an anger thing. That’s not what he said.

  • Trac

    New threadski!
