• beninnorcal

Bear Down, gents. Hope we kick Lovie’s arse.

  • beninnorcal

Also, no Alshon? I like Alshon alot, but will he ever be reliable again, injury-wise?

  • Irish Sweetness

I have no idea what happens in this game and I don’t care.

    GO BEARS!

    • MB30SD

      Kinda this

      • Big Mike

Two years in a row while I traveled to see family in Chicago the Bears was don’t give a hoot. Very dissaponting because watching Bears games with my family in December when it is meaningful is EPIC. Game will be on and will be the centerpiece of the days early festivities. But its 1/3 of the intensity

        • Irish Sweetness

Had an early evening sleep so I’ll be good to tune in at 1.00 A.M.
Have a funny feeling we’ll win this one…. because we’re not supposed to.

        • MB30SD

          Next year bubbala, next year

  • MB30SD

    Dead

  • Trac

Why do I think it’s highly likely at least 2 QB’S get drafted by the 10th pick in the draft?

    Exhibit A

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/12/27/report-ryan-mallett-to-start-for-ravens-today/

    • willbest

I thought the Ravens were in need of a stud WR and CB. Plus they have Flacco for another 3 years.
Lot of QB thirsty teams though, Texans, 9ers, Jets, Rams, Browns. And then the Eagles and Skins have theirs headed to FA. Lions and Vikings have QBs that clearly aren’t the answer, but Teddy is at least going to get 1 more season. And then Pats, Broncos, and Saints are all needing their replacement sooner rather than later.

      • wreckinball

Bears have a shot at top 3 QBs in draft

  • willbest

HGH is prescribed after a number of surgeries. Seems odd that a person not be given a medically valid treatment because they are employed by the NFL. Plus, he didn’t even play football that year. It is one thing to not allow players to get unfair recovery advantages in season. Quite another to tell them not to do things that will promote their long term health when they are on IR.

  • Irish Sweetness

Just found “Running wild with Bear Gryll …” series on Youtube … with Barry O’ Bama !!

Aside: Anyone who watches The Revenant will see the fearsome sight of a bear attacking a human. If we could only play like the thing we’re named after, then we’d only have Cincy and Detroit to worry about every year.

    • CanadaBear

Black bears would rather avoid/ignore you unless they feel threatened. Grizzlies, Kodiaks, Polars, DO NOT FUCK AROUND! They will kill ya just because.

      • Irish Sweetness

The one portrayed in the movie is brown. You can youtube it. Can’t imagine how they filmed it. Awesome.

    • Irish Sweetness

Whoa! Drew Brees wrestles a crocodile!!

I guarantee you the Saints did not know about this.

      20:40

      • Anonymous

Even more impressed that Brees is attempting to play with a torn plantar fascia and actually did play on it the entirety of their DET game.

        One tough hombre.

  • Big Mike

Tired of watching the Bears JV. Need to remember/remind myself how much I liked this group at 5-6 after beating the Packers on thanksgiving. Last week’s game rattled my hopes for his squad. Can the Bears really fix all the leaks that showed up last week. Is this the team that beat the Packers in Lambeau.? Or is it the team that looked flaccid last week?

Going to have a drinking game. Every time a guy who was 3rd string or lower or not on the team at the start of the season (including practice squad) screws up, shots must be taken.

How about some help with the list of players ?

  • Shady

Love Smith and John Fox (pictured from left to right above). I can only imagine what they’re discussing…

    • Doc Nitty

LDL: “You see that big Jumbotron they got in Dallas?”

      FOX: “Uh…how could you not?”

LDL: “I would get off the bus watching that Jumbotron.”

      FOX: “Come again ?”

LDL: ” I could coach the heck out of a game staring up at that thing!”

FOX: ” yeah….okay, Lovie….well good luck today” (walks away shaking head)

      LDL: “mmmmmm…..Jumbotron “

  • Doc Nitty

Bearing Down with my ball hair out.

    Winston…..?

    • Johnnywad

      He deeeeeaaad.

  • Irish Sweetness

Man, can’t wait til those Manning N$$$$wide ads are history …

      • MB30SD

        “Guuuuud”

  • BearDown100393

Dink and dunk homage to John Shoop.

  • Cutty of Olivet Nazarene

I log in just in time to see a WR screen to the left get blown up for a loss of 4 due to missed block and a 2nd and 14 WR screen to the right get blown up because they knew a screen was happening since no one went out on a pattern.

Adam, please go vertical for even 6yd plays to Miller and Forte for gods sake. thank you that is all. Waffle logging off.

  • BearDown100393

Matt gets that 1st down. Langford didn’t. Doesn’t matter anyway because we continue to set the league pace for holding.

  • Pissed Off

Gase is brutal right now. And if we think langford is gonna be the next forte and our feature back next year we are in trouble

    • Irish Sweetness

We do need a guy that can knock dudes backwards.

  • Pissed Off

Looking like i wouldn’t mind if gase got a job somewhere

    • Anonymous

Fair enough. But if you want to see Cutty “unleashed”, I would not be surprised if the INTs start doubling again. And no, I don’t buy a few end of the game drives against prevent Ds as indication that they won’t.

Gase has been fine. So has Cutler. We just have no wideout threats at the moment.

  • BearDown100393

Mega Punt auditioning for next year’s Nutcracker Suite.

  • Anonymous

That back-up safety who stopped Langford short of the sticks? Conte could only dream of making a tackle like that.

    • BearDown100393

      Can we sign the backup?

    • Irish Sweetness

He must have 4 or 5 tackles already.

  • Irish Sweetness

    Cutty’s offense now – watch this …

    • Anonymous

Looks like Gase to me. Bunch of underneath stuff. Just more effective this drive.

      • Irish Sweetness

No huddle = all Cutty. Gase just gave up.

        • Anonymous

          Riiiiiiiggghhhttt …

    • BearDown100393

      Holding. Again.

      • Irish Sweetness

        Who was it?

        • BearDown100393

          Thompson I think

  • BearDown100393

How is throwing the football behind the line of scrimmage “putting in on Jay Cutler”? The Bears have no wide receivers.

  • BearDown100393

Miller on a deep route? Geezus.

  • Pissed Off

    Hey they didn’t block it….progress

  • BearDown100393

Twitter Guy endorsing the Gross Man Deep Route Strategy with eyes wide shut.

  • BearDown100393

New rule proposal: Any player gesturing throw the red flag gets flagged. Looks stupid. Leave it to the coaches.

  • Irish Sweetness

Anyone see Antonio Brown’s TD catch being ruled eh….. not a TD catch? The NFL is making a farce of TD catches. That was a perfect TD.

    • wreckinball

      Lost possession
      Was a good call

      • Irish Sweetness

He took three steps holding that ball. What more do you have to do? Fall down holding it tight also?

        • BearDown100393

After the game, you have to drive home somehow with 2 hands on the football.

        • wreckinball

Not the replay I saw first foot down ball slipping to his leg lifts first foot without possession established possession only when second foot was down

  • BearDown100393

Larry Mayer: The Bears have been outscored 41-6 in the first quarter of their last six games.

    Give Gase a HC job.

  • Pissed Off

I hope they aren’t this bad and are just tanking for. Draft picks

  • EnderWiggin

    Another intercepted screen…

  • BearDown100393

    Gase: Run it again.

  • wreckinball

Trestman is doing Ok with gameplan vs Steelers

  • BearDown100393

Two flags on the defense during the same Bears offensive series. This crew will be demoted by the NFL.

  • Cutty of Olivet Nazarene

i was calling for Unrein but i LOVE that fucking 2 back set. Nice call Gase.

    • Irish Sweetness

Yeah, let’s get some Unrein action in there, why not.

      • Cutty of Olivet Nazarene

Unrein has been in on 8 plays and 8 TD’s were scored but the next best thing is having a guy who will DIE for a fucking yard lined up 1 yd from the line and getting the handoff. Right behind Long.

  • BearDown100393

Langford 3rd on running back depth chart.

  • Irish Sweetness

    DaBearsBlog @dabearsblog
Bears have one of the strongest arms in football playing QB. He can make things happen. Give him a shot.

    To whom, brother?

    • BearDown100393

Sure as heck isn’t Miller on deep routes.

  • willbest

We all knew Thanksgiving was the Bears Super Bowl, I just didn’t expect the players to act like it afterwards. Good lord. It feels like they have been playing for draft picks for weeks now.

    • BearDown100393

      Defense is ballin’.

  • BearDown100393

Forte moving the chains but Twitter Guy endorses Langford/Carey. SMH.

    • Irish Sweetness

Right-hand side of the line is moving the chains …. no?
Ducasse is starting again, man if we’re going to run it, get another 20-30lbs in there with Tayo.

  • Pissed Off

    Forte forte

  • Irish Sweetness

Yup, Ducasse like a fat, lost child in pass-pro.

  • SC Dave

That is what a pass rush looks like…

  • SC Dave

Ravens looking ok, but i just got here. Saw some Forte runs that looked pretty good on the FG drive.

    • wreckinball

      Mallet looks surprisingly OK
Trestman has a nice plan today
      Steelers D is just OK

  • DaMurph

Cam Newton is a fucking tool, I like Ron Rivera and the thought of his team breaking that Dolphin record appeals to me, then I think of Newton going down in history for that. Im torn!

    • BearDown100393

The bigger QB tool is north of Chicago pretending to wear a wrestler’s championship belt.

    • wreckinball

He’s costing me my fantasy bowl

  • SC Dave

How about a TD this time!!

  • Irish Sweetness

    Doug Martin has 24 yards.

    • BearDown100393

      Bears defense has been stellar.

  • SC Dave

It looks nice that we can run today.

  • SC Dave

This drive looking real nice. Good play mix so far.

  • SC Dave

Was that Conte in the zone there?

  • Irish Sweetness

    Timeout .. followed by Miller-time!

  • BearDown100393

The Bucs have not stopped the run. So why in red zone do we stop utilizing something that works?

    • Irish Sweetness

      Strateegery.

  • SC Dave

    Ravens D kicking ass.

    Meanwhile, we make another penalty.

  • BearDown100393

    This. Was. Just. Dumb.

  • Huge Bear’s Penis

    got to catch that

  • DaMurph

Eddie, ya shoulda caught that! We pay you to make that catch!

    • beninnorcal

He was thinking the same thing, judging by his helmet-slam.

  • SC Dave

And drop td catches. At least Royal is pissed.

    • willbest

He shouldn’t be his salary is guaranteed next year. What a waste of $10 million.

  • BearDown100393

    Should be 21-0

    • SC Dave

      At least 17-7

      • BearDown100393

        Bucs TD was gift wrapped.

        • SC Dave

Didnt see it. Fortunately, i guess

          • CanadaBear

Blocked punt. Guy wasn’t even blocked. TB recovered on the 4 and Martin punched it in.

  • Huge Bear’s Penis

gould pushing things again. gonna cost us again if he doesn’t get that shit figured out

    • BearDown100393

      Aiming for that goal post.

  • wreckinball

    Very Lovie type game
It’s like he’s coaching both teams

  • Irish Sweetness

20:33 Time of possession for us.

  • BearDown100393

Winston more or less invisible in the 1st half.

  • Irish Sweetness

Revis picks off Brady in the 3rd.

    • willbest

I am pulling for the Jets

      • Irish Sweetness

Had to back them, Brady’s got nobody.

  • BearDown100393

Long, Strahan and Johnson nailed the game recap and Forte contract situation perfectly.

    • EnderWiggin

      What’d they say?

      • BearDown100393

Nice compliments on the defense and run game. Supportive of Forte and noted Chicago’s seeming lack of interest toward keeping him.

        • Irish Sweetness

Doug Martin will be available ….

          • BearDown100393

            Certainly owes Tampa nothing.

    • willbest

Forte is a 3rd down change of pace back, and if he accepts that role and money going forward he has another 3-4 years in the league.

  • Huge Bear’s Penis

strange, 3 QBs have made starts for multiple teams this year
    Mallet
    Clausen
    Weeden.

  • Trac

Ok girls, now that things have stabilized, will you please let the rest of us continue to root for a Lovie beatdown with a smile.

    Thank you, that is all.

  • BearDown100393

The Bucs are playing so bad Lovie yelled at them for ruining his half-time nap.

    • SC Dave

      Must have worked

  • Irish Sweetness

Brandon IS the New York Jets. The ex-girlfriend that looks hotter than ever. Killing the Pats. Fack,

    • Cutty of Olivet Nazarene

as long as Brandon gets his touches and TD’s he cares not if the team wins or not. Last year he was really hurt, couldn’t get open and didn’t get his TD’s and he fucking melted down. that’s Brando for ya.

      Luck of the draw.

  • SC Dave

Bucs come out and physically start beating the shit out of us. Nut up, D!

  • SC Dave

    Ah fuck

  • Irish Sweetness

    Rushing three, Vic, really?

  • Irish Sweetness

    Lovie’s cursed challenge flag. Tee-hee.

  • Cutty of Olivet Nazarene

during halftime Lovie yelled at his players to make a play….

The Bears D was like, naw, no need to, we’ll handle it.

  • SC Dave

    Bellamy is not a guy

    • BearDown100393

      no awareness either

  • BearDown100393

The Bears need to ditch that bowl of Ambien left on the snack table during half-time.

    • SC Dave

      Pre game too!!

  • Cutty of Olivet Nazarene

need a quarter yard and you punt. Telling.

    • SC Dave

      Classic fox, actually

      • Cutty of Olivet Nazarene

a forward thinking coach that had been having success would have quickly substituted either Unrein or Carey/Langford into fullback and hiked it.

  • SC Dave

    We need a pass rush

  • Irish Sweetness

Riddle me this. Pts score on a picked up fumble. They rule that Fitzy’s hand is not coming forward ergo it’s a fumble. So if his hand is not coming forward, how come the ball shoots about ten yards downfield?

  • BearDown100393

The Bears neutered Crab Legs by keeping him the pocket. Now he is running around and giving the defense a bad case of crabs. Unacceptable.

  • SC Dave

Almost wishing we had Conte back. Just for you, MB

    • Huge Bear’s Penis

      are you drunk already?

      • SC Dave

No, but our scondary couldnt be worse

  • DaMurph

How did they miss that hold on that pass play?? WTF

    • SC Dave

      Its the Bears

  • SC Dave

    Ravens falling apart on O…

  • SC Dave

Wow… a jump ball, and WE WON IT!!

    • BearDown100393

      typo – junk

      • SC Dave

Still, it was up for grabs, and we grabbed it for a change

        • BearDown100393

He wanted the ball more. And got it!

  • BearDown100393

Jones-Quartey – nobody’s buying that jersey. But still a great interception.

  • Cutty of Olivet Nazarene

Good pass rush by Jones, forced a bad throw. Sorry to see Young and Goldman have serious injuries in the last games though. That is going to be bad.

    • beninnorcal

It was. But also a horrible decision by Winston.

  • beninnorcal

Really nervous about Goldman’s injury being an achilles tear. That was were he pointed when he came to the sideline.

  • beninnorcal

Our defense is way too tattered for that 3 and out by the O

  • SC Dave

What the FUCK wws LENO DOING?

  • Cutty of Olivet Nazarene

GASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! where is UNREIN OR CAREY OR LANGFORD AT FULLBACK WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU FUCKING DOING YOU FUCKING IDIOT?

    • BearDown100393

      Being a Beast?

      • Cutty of Olivet Nazarene

why is he doing this to the Bears?

    • SC Dave

That has to be on Leno. He pulled to the right side when the ball was run right to his spot.

      • Cutty of Olivet Nazarene

A FUCKING FULLBACK OR ADDITIONAL RUNNING BACK HAS BEEN KILLING IT ALL SEASON. THAT IS ON GASE.

        • Cutty of Olivet Nazarene

A FUCKING GRADE SCHOOL COACH KNOWS THAT.

  • beninnorcal

    Timu!!!

  • BearDown100393

    Anderson! Timu! Fumble! Recovered Bears!

  • SC Dave

    Nice hit!!!

  • Cutty of Olivet Nazarene

I’M FUCKING DONE WITH GASE. SORRY BUT HE’S A FUCKING TOOL. ANYONE CAN CALL THAT.

    • SC Dave

If Leno does not abandon the point of attack, it probably works.

      • Cutty of Olivet Nazarene

FUCK IT DAVE, THE DUAL BACK AND FULLBACK HAS BEEN WORKING LITERALLY EVERY MOTHERFUCKING TIME. EVERY FUCKING TIME THEY ARE IN THE FUCKING OBJECTIVE IS COMPLETED….FIRST DOWN OR TOUCHDOWN

        • Cutty of Olivet Nazarene

          UNREIN IS 8 FOR 8

          • Cutty of Olivet Nazarene

            CAREY/LANGFORD ARE 3 FOR 3

          • SC Dave

I’m not excusing it, but if the lineman runs away from the point of attack, its never good

          • Cutty of Olivet Nazarene

I’M FUCKING DONE WITH IT. ALL CAPS FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR. HE’S FUCKING HURT US SO FUCKING MUCH.

          • Huge Bear’s Penis

  • BearDown100393

Expensive man power being lost here.

  • SC Dave

    Fuck… another line injury

  • beninnorcal

This is proving to be a costly ‘meaningless’ game injury-wise.

  • Cutty of Olivet Nazarene

    JEFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!!!!!!!!!

WRITE A MOTHERFUCKING COLUMN ON WHAT EVERY SINGLE GRADESCHOOL AND HIGHSCHOOL AND COLLEGE COACH IS SCREAMING RIGHT NOW INTO THEIR COMPUTERS IN ALL CAPS.

    • CanadaBear

I can hear the Bears fight song playing in the background on your posts!

      • Cutty of Olivet Nazarene

CANADA, IT’S A DAMN SHAME. WE PISSED AWAY 5 OR 6 GAMES THIS YEAR. WITH A SHIT SQUAD, ALL WE FUCKING NEEDED WAS A LITTLE MORE FORESIGHT EARLIER IN THE YEAR.

  • SC Dave

Easy TD on a fine play call. And stats for Cutty.

  • Cutty of Olivet Nazarene

DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY FUCKING TIMES WE FUCKING PUNTED OR MISSED 3RD AND 4TH AND 1 AND 2’S THIS YEAR?

    • SC Dave

No, but pro football reference could tell us easily. But I’m on a stupid phone, so not noe

  • SC Dave

Oh, did i say “go jets” ?

  • Irish Sweetness

    A BLITZ !!!

  • beninnorcal

I don’t think Porter shoulda been Peacockin there on 2nd down, he was beat bad.

    • Huge Bear’s Penis

i thought he was asking for an offensive PI penalty.

      • beninnorcal

Yeah, saw that. Or at least an illegal contact.

  • beninnorcal

Is Winston limping or does he just walk like that normally?

    • BearDown100393

He found some change on the field and it is weighing down his leg.

      • Cutty of Olivet Nazarene

HE WAS TIRED FROM THE RAPING.

  • beninnorcal

Offense needs to actually sustain a drive here.

  • beninnorcal

    There’s our Cutty..

  • SC Dave

Way to go, Jay. Just dont get fucking drilled.

  • BearDown100393

Matt Millen stumping for Jay. Hard to argue.

  • beninnorcal

A TD and a decisive victory sure would be nice.

  • SC Dave

Panthers.getting beat. I doubt they come back without a big turnover.

    Atlanta defense on fire.

    • Cutty of Olivet Nazarene

  • DaMurph

  • beninnorcal

Matt Millen: ‘There’s a hole to be found in every zone’

I formally retract my Foxy-Lovie Bears comparison. Nice drive.

The fucking Falcons take the Panthers perfect record. Or should I say Julio Jones.

JULIO MAKES MATTY LOOK VERY ICY WHEN HE COULD BE RIPPED TO SHREDS FOR JUST THROWING IT UP

The Carolina Panthers do not look good.

    • SC Dave

Running u the score two weeks ago was not a good idea. Falcons won their Super Bowl… a fake one, of course. Like us at Lambeau.

  • DaMurph

Matt Millen suckin Cuttys dick, nice to hear an announcer do that for a change. Nice Millen!

There they go again, saying it’s not long before Gase is a HC !!!

  • DaMurph

I dont understand how you let the guy in front of you? Is it that fucking hard to set up at the half yard line, instead of IN the fucking endzone? if they are in front of you they wont score!! WTF!!!!!!!!!!

All is well that ends well.

  • wreckinball

    Nice win
It was a Lovie day on both sides great to come out with the W

    Jets win in OT.

    • Shady

Pats won the coin toss in OT and still elected to kick. Jets took the ball in for a TD and that was that.

      • willbest

What possible reason is there to defer in ot? Was there 40 mph wind down one end of the field?

        • Shady

Must have been some kind of miscommunication. It sounded on TV like the Pats chose heads, coin toss came up heads, sounded like Pats captain said ‘we want to kick it’, then the ref asked the Jets captain which end they want to receive, then the Pats captain seemed to realize what he had done and begain to argue with the ref, but the ref wasn’t having it. Game. Blouses.

          • SC Dave

And the Patriots couldn’t figure a way to cheat out of it.

          • Huge Bear’s Penis

they got the 2 headed coin into the refs hands just did not choose to receive.

half of defense could be replaced without a turn of the head. A couple of upgrades to the O and some health combined with a little common sense short yardage playcalling and package alignment and we could be dangerous.

      • beninnorcal

I think Cutler was helping Gase this year just as much as people were saying it was the other way around.

Great win today. I hope LDL liked what he saw on the Jumbotron. We’re three Robbie shanks away from 9-6. And we’re rebuilding. The future looks bright for this team. We have a ton of cap space and a decent spot in the draft. The Packers are falling, the Vikings are rubber chickens and Adrian Peterson, and the Lions are always the Lions. Should be a much more pleasant offseason. Then by right around the start of next season my bachelorhood should coincide nicely with the beginning of what should be a fun season.

It starts next week at Soldier Field. May I be the first to say, Stafford….?

Cheese are getting destroyed. Rodgers has been sacked six times already. They are not a very good team. Last year was their year and they blew it.

    • AlbertInTucson

Make it 8 sacks and a strip for a TD. VERY entertaining.

  • AlbertInTucson

Not such a beautiful day in Mr. Rodger Neighborhood today.

    • Anonymous

      Nine sacks?

  • Anonymous

Cheese O-line is vastly overrated. They’ve had one good year — last year — otherwise they are mediocre to poor every year.

McCarthy would be smart to get Rodgers out of the game. He is getting slaughtered.

    • AlbertInTucson

Well, there’s nothing to rate when most of them are limping to the sidelines.

      • Anonymous

True enough but even when we have been a man down or two we never allowed game-long jailbreaks like GB did against ARI today. Hell, the blog loses its collective shit if Long gives up two sacks/pressures in a game.

Said it a few games ago — before Long regressed — but a legit argument can be made that we had the best OL in the division this year.

        • AlbertInTucson

Pre-Long, etc., but I would remind you of that awful 8 or 9 sack first half in NY that got Cutler concussed.

  • Huge Bear’s Penis

LOL Pack is getting asses handed to them!!!

    • SC Dave

I’m more enjoying the Rams whuppin up on the Chickens…

More than seeing Rodgers chased to the sidelines? No way.

  • Huge Bear’s Penis

FUCK YEAH!!! I won my fantasy league too.

  • AlbertInTucson

With regards to “Tanking”,I didn’t see any evidence of such today.

Ask the Panthers, Steelers, Seahawks, who all lost to teams with absolutely nothing to play for but pride, as well as the Chiefs who got all they could handle from the Browns today.

  • AlbertInTucson

Packers should have had a 40-burger laid on them. That was a safety on Tolzien.

  • AlbertInTucson

    “DaBearsBlog @dabearsblog

More excuses for Aaron Rodgers, Twitter. They’re adorable.”

    What’s to excuse?

I dislike him as much as most of the blog does but NO QB can make plays laying on his back.

    That O-line is a shambles.

Watching McCarthy think Scott Walker could handle Dwight Freeney 1 on 1 was PARTICULARLY entertaining.

Add in that Eddie Lacy nor James Starks want to take turns being the “The Fumbler”.

Good thing McCarthy resumed the play-calling, isn’t it?

    • Anonymous

Also HUGELY ironic for Blogfather to get on anyone for making excuses for a QB.

Sucks that PITT and NYG won’t be going to the playoffs as they seem like two teams who can play against anybody, even the elites. In fairness, PITT lost R-berger and L Bell this year. With NYG, wonder if they will send Coughlin into retirement.

    • AlbertInTucson

Shedding no tears for either of them.

    • Irish Sweetness

If the Steelers beat the Browns, and the Bills beat the Jets, the Steelers are in. Ravens swept the Steelers. That’s tough, they deserve to be in the playoffs.

Do a one-man team like the Giants deserve a playoff run? Eli, like Meg Ryan, just has to put it up there and let the talent do the rest.

      • Anonymous

Ravens were dealing with the Trestman effect all year. Saw that they decided Ryan Mallet is a more viable fill-in than Pickles. Would not be surprised if Pickles is out of the league next year. Was a bit baffling when Pace signed him so early last off-season. Why?

        • BearDown100393

Because he believed in Fales even less.

So what? Go with another back-up then. There are tons of guys you can get for a song. Hell, the Rams are winning games with Case Keenum.

I have no answer. Perhaps the Bears already ran out out of new nameplates for training camp. I honestly don’t know.

Really, Tony? Sneaky? They’ve been the second-best team in the NFC all year, and arguably the most complete team in the conference. We’re in Week 16 now. They just snuck up on you?

Still don’t understand why NBC keeps him around. Is it just the St. Tony stuff? Do people even care about that anymore?

MINN might be the benchmark for the division the next few years. Only concern would be AP’s shelf life. Other than that, they seem pretty set to contend for post-seasons spots every year.

I think it’s a case of “We were knocked out of the playoff race yesterday and we don’t really want to be here in 14 degrees tonight.”

That said, they are obviously NOT a playoff-caliber team and anyone predicting as little as two weeks ago that they could GET to, let alone WIN, the Super Bowl was sheer folly.

I am TOTALLY a “Winter Weather Wimp.”

  • AlbertInTucson

Honestly, I don’t see Belicheat’s choice as that outlandish.

Gostkowski is a good for a touchback and the Jets offense had gone pretty dormant.

He figures his defense is the better option at the time.

You force a 3 and out and you can grab field position and need just little offense to give the best kicker in the league a shot to win it.

    • BearDown100393

He pontificated that no matter what scoring occurs off the first possession, the other team receive an opportunity on offense.

      • AlbertInTucson

Meh, OK.Have to admit I don’t think that’s totally unreasonable.

Frankly, I was OK with the old “sudden death” concept because you CAN score on defense in football.

That said, I can see the argument for “1 possession each” and don’t have a problem with the change and have to concede I wouldn’t have a problem with “1 possession each, TD or not.”

        • BearDown100393

It was delivery more than the content. Swarmy. Pretentious.

  • Irish Sweetness

I was bored watching the Giants flail about without OBJ, so I looked back at the results of all games this year where the spread is 7 points or greater.

    FYI

    1. If you take the dog in games where the spread is 7 points or greater, you will win money overall.

The favorites have a record this year of 22-27 with three pushes. The pushes give you 19 losing bets, 27 winning bets, a net of 8 times whatever your stake is. So the larger your stake, the richer you are.

    2. DO NOT PLAY MULTIPLES.

I’m running 42-25-0. Backing singles, I would be up 17 times my stake. Currently even-stevens.
    Greed is not good.

    3. DO NOT PLAY MULTIPLES.

Cheese aren’t going anywhere. One of the worst 10-5 teams in recent memory.

MIN concerns me more. They’re young and could be built to last. Bridgewater doesn’t strike me as a guy who will ever be elite but he seems like a guy who could be solid/consistent. And Zimmer strikes me as a coach who will build a top-to-bottom roster/team that won’t rely on a star QB.

The Cheese are all Rodgers. Usually that’s enough to be a threat, but in a year when he looks mortal, they’re average.

      • MB30SD

Agree on all accounts. That said, I think once we start stockpiling actual talent, net-net we’ll smoke the Vikings too.

  • Irish Sweetness

For some reason my football thoughts come to me when I’m scrubbing my ball sack in the shower. But after my daily walk around campus today, for some reason Brandon popped into my head when I was down there getting that badness off.

Forgetting Brandon Marshall. I can’t. And like any relationship break-up where there’s deep love, this shit takes time to get over.

The general blog consensus (not mine) is that the man was a locker-room cancer.

Why not with the Jets, with a lesser QB? Now I’ve got mad respect for Fitzy, but mostly because of his manly man-hair, and his Wonderlic score – but he’s having a career year for no other reason than the object of my affection is his go-to guy.

Only Doug Baldwin and Allen Robinson have more TDs (14) than my favorite crazy person.

Only 5 receivers have more receptions than BM (101), but only one of those (Hopkins) broke double digit TDs.

And there’s not a peep of dissent out of the New Jersey Jets. Why? Where is the uncontrollable maniac of the Midway?

It has to be one of two things:

    A) He called out Cutty’s cowboy ways (my original belief) – called him out for putting the ball in harms’ way too often … the bromance was over, and POX over-reacted.

    B) His TV spot. They couldn’t handle his commute … and POX over-reacted.

But a cancer he is not. For cancer is a bad thing.

Missing you, Brandon of the Marshalls. Missing you.

How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true,
But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,
    And loved the sorrows of your changing face;

And bending down beside the glowing bars,
Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled
And paced upon the mountains overhead

Fuck Marshall. He over stayed his welcome, just like he did with the Phins and Broncos. He is great teammate for the first couple years then his fucked up brain decides that he can’t handle stable relationships and decides to fuck things up.

But that’s my question … how did he fuck things up? There is nothing concrete there. Just rumors.

Case in point – Odell Beckham. He’s a proper fucking nutcase. Why does he get a pass?

        • Johnnywad

He didn’t get a pass. He got suspended. And it’s only happened once due to extenuating circumstances and appears to be out of character for him.

When Brandon held a press conference regarding beating the shit out of his girlfriend, the writing was on the wall. It wasn’t Pace and Fox at that time. It was the McCaskeys. According to Dan Bernstein, they had already decided he was gone. This was before Trestman was even fired. When Pace and Fox arrived, they were not given a choice if we’re to believe Mr. Bernstein. He may be a douche, but he’s not a liar.

    • If you love Bmarsh, you should be happy for him. He may actually make his first playoff appearance.
And while I’m not usually one of those, “he’s never been to the playoffs, he must suck” type of meatheads, in his case, I DO think he was more than partially part of the reason those teams didn’t go to the playoffs.

First, for dropping TDs, then melting down.
      Then for just melting down.

Everything was great the first year with the Bears too. Just wait till next year when we were planning to make our run anyways.

Though I do wholly believe Bmarsh still was trying to get his team to win, when most, including Cutty, obviously checked out on Trest and co.

I can’t comment on his Denver years, but not going to the playoffs as a Bear was on us.
        He’s going this year ….
        (sniff)
