    First?

The only thing I love about the Pro Bowl – all these players opting out for vaious reasons, and all these alternates coming on instead…

AND THERE ARE STILL NO PACKERS!

    • Johnathan Wood

      Eddie Lacy…

      • BillW

        Buzz kill
Ironic though since for years cheeseheads would have you think running was not important

        • Johnathan Wood

now they claim Lacy is better than Forte, which is a joke.

          • BillW

All trash talking aside. Packer fans can be beyond annoying in their inconsistent views on what constitutes good vs bad. To them the only good bear players are long retired and they never admitted they were good at the time. The thinking honestly is so juvenile there have been times I wonder how they function in modern society. Some packer troll will probably get on here and insult me only to prove my point. Really- Lacy had a great year. Let’s see him do it consistently before he’s compared to anyone other than former Packers rbs

  • CanadaBear

Loved the view from the inside. Loved the music. I thought for sure Shaft was going to show up. TRIPPY MAN!

Won’t shed any tears over that place. It will be interesting to see how the BiQueens perform outside for 2 years. It was great when we pounded them outside last year!

  • CanadaBear

I kinda like the idea of the opera star singing the anthem at the SB. I’m not a huge opera fan (as in never, never, never) but I’m reasonably certain she won’t fuck it up. Of course, if I had my way it would be Jim Cornelius every time.

    • johnnywad

I really like the idea of an Opera singer doing the Anthem. Tired of all the hacks giving it a go and trying to “make it their own” while simultaneously showing their utter lack of talent. I just want to see some extraordinarily talented singer, sing the shit out of it, the way it was intended to be sung. I want this person to make the hair on the back of my neck stand up and tears begin to well up in my eyes. Cornelius is the best I’ve heard but I’m hoping there’s just a little bit more to be had here.

      • CanadaBear

It’s a crazy hard song to sing. Getting pop stars to sing it is asking for trouble. Lots of them can’t sing a lick. I’m 100% with ya on the “make it their own” BS. Up here when the Flames play a US team they sing both anthems. As long as I can remember they’ve had the same woman sing (Heather Liscano). She’s great on both songs. Doesn’t try to gussy them up, just sings them as straightforward as possible and never fucks them up. The guys that sing the anthems for Vancouver and Ottawa also do a great job.

        • Sactowns#1

How about just having a musician play a solo ie sax, trumpet, etc. Prob not a calliope or anything like that.

          • CanadaBear

No problem with that at all. Calliope would probably be a bad choice. I think bagpipes would suck too.

          • BillW

You guys are really young I assume. Wynton Marsalis played it before the greatest sb ever

        • BillW

Same in Chicago. Jim Cornelius. Who is great and does some bears gamea too. The entire stadium cheers through the whole anthem at hawks games. Many claim its not respectful. But I think it’s a very vocal display of national pride

          • CanadaBear

I’ve been there for that in the old stadium. I think it’s disrespectful in a way but once the place busts loose after the song is pretty cool.

      • Cormonster

Thought you might like this version. This little blind girl moved me.

        http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEdIHMJe8VM

        • johnnywad

She freakin nailed it. You tell me how it gets better than that. And if you told me that voice was coming out of that kid I would have assumed you lost it. She rules man.

          • Cormonster

She put her heart into it 100%.

          • SC Dave

Simple.. she could have sang the notes of the song as written.

          • Cormonster

Really? You didn’t hear the emotion in that version?

      • Irish Sweetness

It should probably always be an opera singer – a professional trained singer – one and a half octaves isn’t exactly straightforward to belt out. Helps if you know the words too, Ahem , Christina ….

  • gpldan
    • CanadaBear

I would. Esp since I’m not going to be there!

    • Cormonster

      That would be fantastic.

Side note. When did they start naming winter storms, and do they only get a name if they affect the east coast?

      • Irish Sweetness

It’s c-o-l-d here in Thailand these mornings. I’ve been here about ten years and I’ve never been cold. This is cold. Something’s up, and it’s not global warming.

        • MB30SD

This will not end well for him.

    • gpldan

      No. No it will not.

      • gpldan

Speaking of Hayden, I named one of my USB hard drives “that ass”

That way, my Mac pops up messages that say “Time Machine wants you to back that ass up.”

        Boom! Please tip your waiters.

        • My Bad Guys, My Bad…

i know we’re all thinking it but i have to come out and say it….
When does the season start? I can’t make it much longer.

  • CanadaBear

The new LB coach used to be in Houston. 3-4 anyone?

    • BearFanInDE

I thought Paul Pasqualoni was gonna be the LBs coach. Something is cooking on the Defense….

      • Johnathan Wood

Pasqualoni is apparently gonna be the DL coach. he did that in DAL in 2010 (was also DC that year)

      • Irish Sweetness

Hey, it’s the great Cornholio !! Do you need T.P. ?

    DaBearsBlog @dabearsblog

. @jermaine611 Two high profile safeties – TJ Ward & Byrd – may hit open market. Both wonderful players but Byrd would be huge star in Chi.

    Yes. Please.

    • Johnathan Wood

I’m more intrigued by trying to fit 2 big DL contracts in. Like, say, Linval Joseph and Michael Bennett. If they cut Pep with June 1 designation that saves $14M, and they could it both of those in with some clever structuring. Bennett+Bushrod had a combined cap hit of only $5M this year.

      • Johnathan Wood

I am firmly in the camp that defense begins and ends on the DL. If your DL sucks, the rest of your D will suck no matter how good it is. If your DL kicks ass, the rest of your D will kick ass.

So get two good players in FA, draft a DL guy in round 1, get the best DL you can. Abuse the opposing QB (and keep yours from getting abused) and you will win more often than not.

        • MB30SD

Basically agreed with this premise… that said, you have to have a baseline of at least marginal competence in your d backfield to be better than just middlin. .. so guess it depends on what you’re looking for jon.

My contention would be that we need to be a couple levels better at both safety spots next year no matter what kind of dine we bring in. You’re not going to get to the qb every play no matter who you are, and you at least need guys who can tackle and take decent angles on coverage and breakaway runners.

          • Johnathan Wood

Agreed, MB, you need competent play elsewhere. But remember: Conte and Wright looked good in 2012 behind a good DL. It’s not hard to find competent safeties who won’t kill you on the back end of a good defense–could grab one in round 2, and one or two cheap in FA, and let those guys compete with Conte for playing time.

        • Irish Sweetness

That’s my T-shirt for next season, Butch. Monster DL please. The rest will follow …

        • BerwynBomber

There are exceptions to that rule. Detroit’s DL is pretty damn good and their overall D is only fair. Quick: name a current, well-known Kittens LB. Anyway, agree with your general rule of thumb but don’t think it as absolute as you presented it.

          • Johnathan Wood

Detroit has Stephen Tulloch, who’s a perfectly capable MLB, and DeAndre Levy, who’s nothing special but was close to the NFL lead in interceptions thanks to that monster DL.

  • Irish Sweetness

Not football or alien related, but something quite astounding I’ve just been made aware of.

In June, 2009, the Republic of Ireland’s national debt was 65.3 Billion Euro (the government bailed out the banks in 2008). Right now the debt stands at just shy of 176 Billion. Almost trebled in 4.5 years.

If the same thing happens to the USA debt, shit’s gonna get real.

The USA’s debt is pretty mild compared to some countries.

External debt to GDP ratio :

    China 7.4% (best)
    Ireland 1048% (worst)
USA 99% (4.5 times better off than the UK!)

Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. cunt.

  • Irish Sweetness

Just started to pay attention to the draft there. Rice has Gordon, Beast and Baby Beast? Jerry knows football. Neon goes #1 with Luck ??? How does BM feel about being drafted 20 spots after the supposed #2 on the Bears? Ouch.
