• Cormonster

First to say thanks Josh MC COWN! MC COWN!

  • 505 Bears

Can’t blame him. Dude, got rich… bitch!!!

    • MB30SD

  • DaMurph

Chris Williams signed big deal with Buffalo, another Bears mistake of not being able to coach talent or see it. Pisses me off all the mistakes that have been made over the past 15 years

    • Johnathan Wood

on the plus side: Bears got Slauson for less money than what Williams got.

      Ladies and gentlemen… Phil Emery!

      • Cormonster

Slauson has been a huge pickup. 10x better than Williams. He gave up only 2 sacks last year, and 2 penalties. Cookie probably had over 20 penalties against him last year. Slauson was a steal.

    • IBNO

Just ‘ cause the guy got a big deal (with Buffalo!?!) doesn’t mean he is good. Not that I’m disagreeing that the Bears fucked up with him, but I don’t think a guy getting a big contract (from Buffalo?!?!) means he’s good.

      • DaMurph

Had a damn good last year starting here and a lot of people were surprised he lost his job. Guess certain people think Mike Tice was a great judge of talent and a great coach too.

    • Shady

Well I guess he’ll join the ranks of Gabe Carimi and Jamarcus Webb – uber talented guys who just got away. (Smh) C’mon Murph, Cookie was a bust in Chicago, barely serviceable in St. Louis and was just overpaid in Buffalo.

      • DaMurph

I guess you didnt see him play guard in Chicago because there were plenty of us that thought he did a real good job there his last year before they replaced him. I watched several Rams games and he looked pretty decent the games I saw. Just like Columbo who had a pretty good run in Dallas. Webb wasnt a first round pick and just plain sucked. The book isnt closed on Carimi either. (SMH) you are so wrong on this one Shady.

        • Shady

          SMH indeed Murph, SMH indeed.

        • Irish Sweetness

All I saw with CW at guard was him going backwards, Murph. He was too tall.

    • Irish Sweetness

There were no CW fans on here Murph ….

  • DaMurph

Josh will be making a big mistake if he goes someplace else. He will be back to being a mediocre starter or sub on another team. He has ascended to almost rock star status here in Chicago, the team that resurrected a dead career.

    • 505 Bears

If? Like Hawk says….” He gone!!”

    • CanadaBear

No kidding Murph. Look at Waddle. He’s carved out a really nice media career in Chicago. He deserves credit for working hard at his craft but I’m sure the only reason he got the job originally was due to being a fan favorite in Chicago.

      • DaMurph

If you are a fan fav here, you have a lifetime of employment. Any shortcomings of salary offered by another team vs. Bears offer would be more than made up over the long run. The 85 Bears are still earning a living here in Chicago, making good money here if they choose.

        • gpldan

He made an extra 4.5 million dollars, Murph.

Lovie payed DOUBLE what reasonable market value was for the guy. Lovie WANTED to fuck the Bears.

          The formula:
          http://upload.wikimedia.org/math/7/2/d/72d8b4a9237527c1a496c5cb7d2433e0.png

The soda tv commercials and sofa bed outlets have to come up with a LOT of coin in the future to off set 4 million bucks in the present.

          • IBNO

How much of that extra $ is guaranteed? Because McCown is on the street next year if he can’t outplay Glennon this year or whoever they draft.

And Lovie is an idiot. Does he not realize that his Bears were habitually defined by QB inadequacy? McCown is going to regress, big-time. Josh is good in Trestman’s system; the joke’s on LDL.

          • gpldan

            $5.5M is guaranteed.

          • NewBearInTown

He wasn’t going to get $5.5M in Chicago without a guarantee.

          • Irish Sweetness

            Lovie doesn’t have the receivers.

      • SC Dave

What was Waddle’s highest salary playing for the Bears? $400,000? With and extra $5M or so, Josh does not need to care about media careers.

    • Trac

Hate to see him go too Murph.

    • SC Dave

Hard to consider $10M a mistake.

  • Trac

I love that McCowns hard work paid off. That’s great for him. Wish him an even better year than he had for us.

    • Sad thing about wishes is that they usually don’t come true.

Moose was wrong when he said Chicago was where receivers go to die. What he should have said was “Lovie Smith is where offenses refuse to be born.”

      • SC Dave

I disagree. Moose was right, at the time. Shit, the Bears have pretty much NEVER had a leading WR before Marshall. One could make cases (albeit short-term ones) for Harlon Hill and Johnny Morris but other than that, the Bears history at WR is, in a word, pathetic.

        • curtis conway and jeff graham? did 1995 mean nothing to you?

but yes. i know we are a WR wasteland.

  • 4ever85 (AKA Butch Deadlift)

Hearing Emery, he said that the more significant moves he will make at S are going to be in the draft, not UFA market. In other words, don’t expect any big signings in FA unless a surprise cut happens.

Emery also said that safety, defensive line, QB, and LB are going to be a focus in the draft.

    • MB30SD

get me some Dix! I loves me some Dix! I want DIx!

(beat you to it, didn’t I?)

      • gpldan

        You secondary whore.

      • 4ever85 (AKA Butch Deadlift)

This is the way drafts usually unfold.

1-10 mad dash for QBs, DEs/RushLBs, DTs, LTs. Maybe a bad ass at another position like CB or WR sneak in.

10-25. Start looking at the top two S, non-rush LB, leftover Dlinemen.

25-32. Centers, OGs and TEs come into the mix, plus those who drop because of character/injury/measurable issues (they’re usually sitting awkwardly in the green room).

Rd 2 1-16. Mad dash for “project” QBs, TEs, LBs (non pass rush specialist), OGs and Safeties that are under rated for one reason or another.

This is where I expect the Bears to pick up their S.

        • MB30SD

I believe that we need a FS. Dix is THE FS of the draft. If he’s available at #14, I think it would be a big mistake to pass him up if our top DL prospect is gone.

Pryor will be gone by Rd2, so which FS would you target in 2 if we were to pick one there… cause taking ward would be silly since we seem to now have like 5 SSs and christ fucking conte.

          • Irish Sweetness

I’d be happy with Pryor in rd 2 if we get a DE in the first. Woot can always beef up and go inside, or we just go with Collins/Paea/Ratliff inside. Got to sign Woot.

          • MB30SD

pryor ain’t lasting till the 2nd maing. no way.

    • George Hernandez

We need CB’s, when’s that coming?

      • MB30SD

        rd 3 or 4.

I’d love to pick cory back up.

      • 4ever85 (AKA Butch Deadlift)

He didn’t mention CB besides that talks are “on-going” with Peanut. I’m positive Emery will be content rollling with Jennings, Bowmen, Hayden, Frey.

        • MB30SD

yeah, I think so too. Picking up cory for a good price would be a nice insurance policy

          • George Hernandez

Didn’t he pick off fivehead in that playoff game?

          • MB30SD

yes, always liked him. And he’s a seriously bad ass ST player. He’s the one that the lesbian tackled by the back of his helmet on a pick 6

          • CanadaBear

You guys are thinking of DJ Moore.

          • George Hernandez

I’m not, Corey Graham picked off Peyton Manning in the AFC divisional round to advance to the AFC championship game the year they (BLT) won it all.

          • CanadaBear

I had no idea who 5 head was.

          • George Hernandez

Peyton Manning. I knew Stafford was the Les.

          • MB30SD

yes, this was all my bad. george was right (fucking beancounters)

          • CanadaBear

Yeah, I figured it out after I read about picking him off in the playoffs. A little slow on the up take!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

          • Cormonster

Dammit, you beat me to it. Jeez MB, not only do you suck at math, but you can’t keep your history straight.

          • MB30SD

            welcome to my life corm.

          • CanadaBear

The Lesbian wouldn’t have gone after Graham. DJ was tiny. Lezzy had at least 50 lbs on him. Corey would have kicked his ass.

          • DJ Moore is now on the Bucs. He’s going to replace Revis.

          • IBNO

I thought DJ felt shafted by LDL and his staff?

            Oh damn, unintentioinal innuendo there…

          • whatever he felt then, he should feel lucky to have a job now.

          • Cormonster

The lesbian got in a fight with DJ Moore.

          • MB30SD

            Damn it, you’re both right.

    • Johnathan Wood

he also said he thinks the CBs in the draft are better than FA. Worth mentioning.

  • MB30SD

I’ll paraphrase my thoughts from the last thread.

Good for you josh! Good luck lad. Take the money and run. you’re a good man, and I’m really happy for you.

And… lovie, you’re still a fucking clueless buffoon when it comes to offense. You just paid $5M/year for a back up who thrived in a VERY advanced SYSTEM. What you got ain’t ever gonna be no system.

Good for josh, and throwing that money at him couldn’t have come from a nicer guy… that I am SO ecstatic isn’t our problem any more. Good luck with that Tampa!

    • George Hernandez

You should hear talk radio in this area though, they talk about him like a god.

      • MB30SD

        LOVIE?!?!?!?!

Hahahahahaha… give it year or two.

        • George Hernandez

That’s what i try to tell them, they won’t hear it.

    • krikies. $10 million for 2 years of the guy? best of luck to you, buddy.

looks like my fiancé needs a new 2nd favorite bear (behind the unicorn, of course.)

      • MB30SD

        conte?

        • we watch his highlight videos in lieu of porn. i wouldn’t want to sully his place in our lives.

          • MB30SD

that just made me throw up a little in my mouth.

          • you’d throw up a lot a bit in your mouth if you saw the few conte “highlight” videos i saw and decided not to share with the group.

          • MB30SD

you sir, are a true patriot.

That said, I’m sure Dave would like to check them out.

          • johnnywad

Be gentle with Dave. He loves Conte and Wright, wanted Devin to stay forever, hates Cutty and wanted to have McCown’s baby. It’s been a rough go for Dave.

          • MB30SD

I love you dave, but Johnny just summed up all your items… I actually agree with you on Forte… although every game I get pissed cause he rarely seems to break one or do anything jaw dropping, he just quietly, sneakily amasses yards and catches…

anyway, you have to admit, at the very least you sure as hell like the underdog.

          • SC Dave

I guess so. When I do to the Alehouse representing, I wear #9. Because when I got it, he was the best player on the Bears. And you guys gave me shit for saying so, but I don’t fucking care because I was right at the time.

Now, I’d have to say he’s only the 3rd or 4th best player on the team. But evidently Emery liked him enough to make him the first guy they signed to a new contract after last season.

          • Shady

            smh lol

          • SC Dave

Obviously, you’re confusing me with someone else.

  • DaMurph

Bears signed Green Bay safety M.D. Jennings………….He a Doctor of Defense?

    • MB30SD

you’re one thread too late Murph.

      MURPH!!!

      • DaMurph

        Dude, Im a busy guy!

        • MB30SD

          slacker.

  • George Hernandez

Randy Starks just got 2/$12MM, less than Linval got, tells me DT market will have some value once the Jason Hatcher domino falls. Kevin Williams anyone?

    • Johnathan Wood

Linval is 25, Starks is over 30.

      • George Hernandez

There arent anymore 25 year old DT’s that are as good as Linval left in the market.

        • Johnathan Wood

I know, I’m just saying the age is the reason for the bigger contract. Yearly value about the same, just longer for Joseph. Doesn’t mean market quieting.

They already have one old DT in Ratliff. Don’t want too many old guys; they get hurt more.

  • Doc Nitty

I’m confident that once McCown leaves the QB whisperer, he will return to the avg journeyman quarterback he used to be. Nice one, Lovie. Was Sexy Rexy not available?

    • 4ever85 (AKA Butch Deadlift)

ahhhhh!!! Sexy Rexy was available. “Rex is our quarterback” Fuck. Lovie just bitch-splapped Bears fans, “Yeah, I rather pick-off a journeyman 35 QB then my ex-SB starting QB”. How you like them apples.

  • George Hernandez

Corey Graham graded out at a +4.0 at PFF (which we all hate, but since none of us are scouts it puts things into perspective a little bit) would love to have him back.

    • NewBearInTown

We need depth at corner and help on special teams. If he’s still got fuel in the tank, it’d be a great pickup. But Emery might not want him to come back and be another Lovie guy.

  • MB30SD
    • gpldan

Where did that Penn State apologist go to? Asshole.

      • MB30SD

that’s it? I pull the pin, the safety spoon leaver thing flys off, and it hits the ground as I run for cover… and that’s it?!?!?!

        No bang? No nuthing?

Saw the wife being interviewed by Matt Lauer. She believes her husband is innocent because she never heard any screams coming from their basement.

Denial ain’t just a river in Egypt.

      • gpldan

Jerry can have all the buttsecks he wants where he is now. He just can’t dictate who bottoms or the where and when. That’s the catch.

        • IBNO

According to what I’ve read, Jerry’s alone in his cell 23 hours a day.

If there’s any justice, there’s a party in his anus the 24th hour of every day.

  • MB30SD
  • IBNO

Good for Josh. He’ll make good coin, last a year behind Tampa’s not-so-hot O-line before Lovie drafts some lousy Rex Grossman clone, and hopefully won’t have too much TBI so he can go back to coaching high school.

He’s gonna look pretty bad not throwing to the BMarsh & Alshon Jump Up And Catch Everything Show, not to mention playing in whatever limp-dick offence limp-dick Lovie employs.

And in the meantime, QB Whisperer Marc Trestman will turn Jordan Palmer into 2015’s most coveted FA QB.

Seriously, good for Josh. I think he made a bad choice, but I wish him luck.

    He’s gonna need it.

  • IBNO

And Jeebus no fucking way does Jared Allen come to the Bears. That clown cheap-shotted a Bear and pretty much ended his career. I don’t care if he poops ice cream and farts rainbows after every one of this 20 sacks in 2014, he can take his act somewhere else.

  • gpldan

    Ware + Von Miller

Should be an interesting 3-4 D in Denver.

    • MB30SD

      scary more like it

    • IBNO

They still have a shitty secondary. Champ Bailey is older than me… or at least plays like it anymore. And he’s their best.

      • TJ Ward? Aqib Talib? Do they not count?

      • Bender McLugh

I think Champ was already cut.

        • AlbertInTucson

          Yes.

  • Cormonster

A very smart Packer fan friend on MD Jennings:

Dime a dozen player. Very fringe NFL worthy. If he bumps up to utter mediocrity for the Bears it would be a couple levels jump.

Yes MB, there are some smart Packers fans. After all, his favorite player since Favre retired is Peanut. He’s been raving about him for years.

    • gpldan

Great, so we got Kevin Payne.

      • George Hernandez

meh, it’s not like we are paying him $8.5MM per year. He is coming here on a one year deal that is probably slightly higher than the minimum.

        • gpldan

And Al Afalava is a free agent. So we always can fall back on that,

          • George Hernandez

Hahaha, think he was hurt a lot though.

          • johnnywad

I think Jeff would dub him a “Safety with Super Bowl experience.”

      • Cormonster

He’s probably got picked up to fight for a roster spot. Nothing to see here.

  • Doooonnnn’t Caaaaare!

MCOWN FUCKING LEFT FOR TAMPA?????!!!!!!????!!!! What in the fuck are we going to fucking do now????
wait, what? play the franch….oh, we can just play our franchise quarterback?? Oh, ok, I feel a little better now.
haha, only in fucking Chicago, worst fucking fans on earth.

    • George Hernandez

DISCLAIMER: I am a massive Jay Cutler apologist!

It never hurts to have a legit backup plan though, Jay hasn’t finished a season in years. Just concerned about who is next, like a couple of years ago when we were two heartbeats away from a Nancy Pelosi presidency (yikes!), we are one snap away from Jordan Palmer being the starting QB of the Bears. Josh flashed ability in 2011 when he went 1-1 as a stater after Jay broke his thumb, Jordan Palmer has never flashed anything (as far as we know), which is what makes me nervous for a team with playoff aspirations.

      • Doooonnnn’t Caaaaare!

I know my man, I loved McCown as a player and a family guy and thought he stepped up admirably. I actually like Jeff’s idea of Sanchize coming in. He needs a change of scenery and would probably be pretty content throwing Sanchballs to our beast brigade.
I had to take a jab at the absolute mouthbreathing meathead fuckstick city workers who will use the most clichĂ©d canned sayings and responses to the best QB in the history of the Bears playing with the worst fucking O line group in the league from 09-12 and with no WR’s except Marshall from 09-12 and no TE’s from 11 to 12.

        • gpldan

You thought I was joking when I said Dirty Sanchez.

        • Irish Sweetness

Sanchez is a train wreck, man – you can’t be serious.

      • MB30SD

I don’t know about you, but palmer looked to have the toolset in preseason last year. I know all of us were kind of shocked when he got let go.

Not saying he’s better than McCown, but he’s younger and if we just need a game manager why not him. isn’t that exactly what McCown was/is?

    • SC Dave

I guess we have to call Jay the franch.. QB since he got a big contract. Maybe he’ll finish as season for us for a change?

  • Doooonnnn’t Caaaaare!

Had a thought about Lovie. I think he may actually do a little better. He probably saw the Seahawks and their success with a solid O line, decent running back, QB game manager type and impactful D and specials.
The Bears always had the D and Specials during Lovie’s heyday and had the RB and O line when they went to the SB in 06. Lovie will now seek to improve the D while bringing in solid O linemen which is why they are going after Anthony Collins and E.D Smith.
Lovie has a couple of WR’s head start now and can’t really fuck it up so i’m expecting a solid 8-8 or 9-7 start to his tenure. he will miss the playoffs which will be amusing but they won’t tank.

    • MB30SD

I don’t think they’ll ever tank. They’ll be a classic lovie team and between 8-8 and 11-5 every single year. Maybe they’ll go to the second or even third round once during his tenure, win a division title or two. That’s exactly what you get with lovie. Just enough to keep his job for 10 years, until people realize there’s never going to be a lombardi at the end of that rainbow.

      • 505 Bears

Just had a frightening Quantum Leap moment

      • Johnathan Wood

  • George Hernandez

Corey Graham to the Bills 4/$16MM

    • tobijohn

Would have been a bit pricey for us, no?

  • gpldan

Who was it that said Ware is done?

His deal is 3/30 with 13 guaranteed THIS YEAR.

Broncos paid through the nose for him to generate pass rush. The Broncos are going “all-in” this year to get Manning back to the dance. Big risk.

    • 505 Bears

Ware is happy he was cut. Dude is making more money this year now than he would have with Jerry’s Kids

      • MB30SD

hell yes, he also has a chance to go to the playoffs and maybe even win a title.

    • johnnywad

I did. He looked very ordinary to me. Guess we’ll see.

  • gpldan

    Jeff tweetz:

Oddly enough it is Mike Glennon, the most promising of last year’s rookie QBs, who loses his job. And to a 35 year-old.

EJ Manuel is the most promising, Jeff. Dude, I think Geno Smith has more upside than Mike Glennon.

    • Johnathan Wood

but Glennon had the best rookie year

      • Irish Sweetness

        Glennon will be good.

  • 505 Bears

Observation: Houston is getting #99 and McChicken aka CD #50…Is the 99 tainted and will make Houston get steamrolled every play? In contrast, does the 50 make CD receive Singletary powers?

    • Johnathan Wood

how’d that work for James Anderson last year?

      • 505 Bears

Damn it… good point. Hopefully they take the #99 to some sort of witch doctor to un-taint it

      • MB30SD

        damn you!

Why is everyone so down on my main main anderson?!? Dude was a stud in a sea of shit. smh.

        • SC Dave

Yeah, I don’t get it either. While not a star, he was competent, which is more than one can say for most of the defense last season.

          • Johnathan Wood

Anderson was very good until he had to start calling plays, IMO. His play went rapidly downhill at that point as it was too much for him to handle.

Had issues getting everybody lined up.

    Dan Patrick, STOP WHINING!

Cell phone signals go bad. Learn to deal with it without berating a producer on the air. That behavior is embarrassing, not to mention mightily unprofessional.

MAYBE that’s why NBC didn’t turn to you when Bob Costas went on the sick list in Sochi.

Besides, it was a Reggie Miller interview which had me punching the tuner button anyway.

    • johnnywad

Why do you keep listening to him Al?

I enjoy a lot of the guests including Rich Eisen, who isn’t afraid to say “Wrong, DannyI” I like the Dannettes (one of whom is a Bear fan) .

Also, it’s the same local station as I have on for local sports talk on the way home in the evening so Patrick’s on by default when I get in the car to go to work.

I do listen less than I used to but I still seem to catch his continuous little boy tantrums over cell phone signals that go bad, as if Fritzi has some control over signal quality. This morning he accused Fritz of intentionally putting Reggie Miller on with a bad signal and it definitely did not come across as “in jest.”

I used to enjoy Dan a bit but the constant name-dropping, inane self-importance because he gets bit parts in crappy Adam Sandler movies, the fawning over the supermodels young enough to be his daughters and even granddaughters and last season just sitting silently while idot pal, Warren Sapp, slandered Brandon Marshall as “Retarded”.

Same thing happened back when I used to listen to his show when he was stil on ESPN radio. He was paired with Rob Dibble. When Dibble left (don’t know whether he jumped or was pushed) and it was 100% Dan, the show suffered. Mightily..
