    First?

    • MB30SD

      whoops?

  • Trac

For those of you that don’t have the time to list, here’s the bullet points:

Nobody thought the Bears would win their 2 rd games.

Tucks D is a Lovie Smith Style D.

    Geno Smith can’t handle pressure.

Bostic drop was unfortunate, has big coverage issues.

Allen thinks our depth is ready to make an impact.

Emery didn’t draft for impact but for depth.

Emery rebuilt team depth in 2 years.

    Conte injury concerns again.

    Frey looked overwhelmed against jets.

Front four stepped it up when they needed to against jets.

Bears facing the packers where there is blood in the water. Bears need to make offensive statement in the whole game.

    Could be a rout.

BM may need to sit out game in order to get healthy.

Marshall likely to play for decoy reasons.

    • Barb UMihai Mar

So not everybody has seen Bostic as a stud against the Jets.

      • Trac

He’s only gonna get better with time.

        • Barb UMihai Mar

he better. Bostic is the key for Bears future on D. More than Fuller.

  • Bender McLugh

Giordanos for me, but it has to be the downtown spot on East Lake Street. I miss the original location, was so warm and welcoming. I believe the East Lake Street location is across the street from the original.

    • BillW

Can’t picture it on East Lake Street. In the Prudential Building?

      • Bender McLugh

not sure what building, looks like Randolph and Bearen streets

        • Bender McLugh

and it doesn’t look like it’s across the street from the original location….I’ll have to research that.

          • Bender McLugh

yeah it’s the Rush & Chicago location I was thinking of…..

          • BillW

That’s the one I figured you meant; that is the Prudential Building; went there a few times when I worked in the Amoco Building (which is now the Aon Building. In fact, we had a fantasy football draft there once. (In the early 90s, before internet FF)

  • BillW

As said in the other thread – Pack favored by 2.

Remember that’s the bettors take on the game. They can’t see the Packers starting 1-3; don’t believe the Bears are (ever) as good as the are etc.

I love the disrespect. It makes the players focus. I guess it comes this time from the secondary injuries and the belief Rodgers will eat that up. And he might.

But it also comes from the fact that the Bears haven’t done enough to convince people they are actually good. I actually hope SF beats Philly – since it’s looking like we beat two teams that are bad, and lost to a team that’s not so bad.

I caught the tail end of a piece on the Score this morning (yeah, I said I wouldn’t listen to them after blasting Marshall, but ESPN has a national show on in the morning as I’m driving to the train.)

Anyway, Rodgers was talking up the Bears talent on both sides of the ball. Talked about his “friend” Shea and his friend Tilman. Fuller playing well; Allen was a good addition. Marshall and Jeffery; Jay playing well.

But didn’t even mention the Black Unicorn. After Bennett got mad at Rex for not speaking about him “with enthusiasm”.

Big game for him coming? I do like the disrespect angle.

    • Viva

The purpose of a “line” is to divide the betting public in half (and average joe bettors still think Aaron Rodgers is throwing the ball to Greg Jennings and Jermichah Finley). As lopsided wagers come in (ie the book misjudged the betting public) they will move the line to stay in the middle. The book does not want to be on either side of a bet. They make their dough on the vig.
Sharps bet on gameday. They want to know which way the wind is blowing.
The Pack -2 may seem absurd, but that is what the SportsBooks belive will keep them in the middle of the betting public.
On Sunday morning, Sharp money will come in on the Home Dog (Bears), because home dogs feed their families.
Once they start making their plays the line will move back to a pick-em scenario.
I got my modest bet(s) in yesterday because I needed to collect (Get Some!), and I am going to be in New Hampshire this weekend.

      • johnnywad

Bingo. I’m betting Bears are -1-1/2 at kickoff.

        • Jokey

Right now Vegas lines are Bears -1.5, some say -1

          • johnnywad

Wow. That was fast. Guess the books had it wrong if they already had to move it.

          • Jokey

            I meant + not -, sorry

          • johnnywad

            That makes more sense

          • Shady

I guess the Disqus overlords didn’t like my links to offshore gambling sites. Point was, I don’t see the Bears favored anywhere. They seem to be between 1-3 pt underdogs.

          • MB30SD

            good.

Fuck the packers right in their waning dynasty faces.

          • Jokey

            My bad I meant + not –

      • BillW

Good summary. That’s what I meant by saying it’s the bettor take on the game, not the book. The book takes no sides. The (infamous) Colts/Jets line educated me on that point way back when.

I remember a week several years ago that I think was dubbed “Black Sunday”. I think every single favorite covered the spread. Very unusual

      • MB30SD

        look at you. Fucking shark.

Remind me not to play pool for money with you when we finally meet. Hahahaha

        OOORAH!

    • Big Mike

Had the Bears closed out the Jets a bit stronger, things would be different to bettors and experts. A +4 in turnovers doesn’t translate in the betting line because it is largely believed to non-replicable. Close observers of the Bears give the wins over SF and the Jets more stock because our greatest weakness (defense and in particular run defense), took a huge step forward. The Bears were flying to the ball and making solid contact vs the Jets. Our offense was not up to its potential. But that’s correctable. Bottom line Bears won by 8 when they were a 2.5 PT dog vs Jets. They won by 8 when they were a 6.5pt dog vs SF. They did it in the face of injuries on the road, in prime time, while not playing their best.

Beware of the Bears. 5-3 at the break and this team will do some serious damage in the playoffs.

Beating Green Bay is a requirement. Because fuck the packers.

      • Trac

        Great post my man.

        • Big Mike

Victory Monday post will be even better!! Time to end the reign of the cheeseballs.

  • BillW

“Jets blitz vs Bears wasn’t effective. Jay Cutler completed 73.3% of his passes when blitzed, per @PFF. Only 52.2% when not blitzed”

So when Jay is forced to find the hot read he does very successfully. When he (presumably) has more time, he is less accurate? No – I think that’s when he takes some chances or tries to stretch the field and those passes are lower percentage.

So as a DC I would scheme accordingly – let him throw it up and perhaps make some mistakes.

I hope we find our running game this week.

My fear is Jay gets into his arrogant mood and tries to beat GB himself. His record is 1-8 and that may bother him enough to try and prove something that doesn’t need to be proved – or is better proved by simply winning.

This game is starting to worry me. I’m glad the Packers are favored – else this could be a trap game too, liek the Buffalo game probably was.

    • AlbertInTucson

I don’t see how a Packer game EVER qualifies as a “trap game.”

      • Viva

        Never, ever, ever, ever.

        • Trac

Not in the last 15 years by my count.

          • BillW

I think it was under the Wanny years since he kept saying GB was just another game. When first he said that, my disgust for him was complete.

Trestman I believe looks at it as it should be. not sure of all the players though. Peanut I’m sure will educate Fuller and the other new secondary members.

Allen – permission to go crazy (please!) You got Viking AND Bear blood. Two sacks minimum!

Thanks guys for calling me out. I needed that.

          • CanadaBear

Least favorite Bears coach in my lifetime. Paranoid, ass-kissing weasel.

          • Cormonster

He’s a guest on the Mully and Hanley show at least once a week now. Still can’t stand listening to him speak. Michael Irving is also a guest every week. That show is starting to go downhill.

          • It seems like there’s a lot of bad blood between the Vikes and Pack.
Don’t know why, but hopefully some of that carries over for Allen.

          • MikeBrownhadaPosse

That goes WAY back – has to do with the origins of the franchises and the split fan base in Minnesota, not to mention the Favre adventures in Minny-land.
Anyways, hopefully Allen takes it out on google-eyes and snaps something delicate.

      • Big Mike

Beating the Packers at home is a must win game. It’s a hurdle the Bears absolutely must get through. If not, it’s always there rotting away in the collective psyche of the team and its fans. It’s just that simple. Bears will not take the next step and be a serious contender for the SB until they beat the Packers. You want to take Rodgers and the Packers off their pedestal. Only one way to do it. Smack the Packers around in Soldiers. Beat the Packers by +10. Whoop their asses and respect will come. For me, an ugly victory is just fine. Steal the game, get lucky, whatever. Just beat these clowns.

    • Trac

It’s simple, receivers have more space when teams blitz. Jays success is for three reasons, talent, oline picks up the blitz, few pass defenders. Blitzing has its risks and you better get to the QB when facing a QB like Cutty.

      • BillW

I just hope that if the Packers are smart enough not to blitz, that Cutler doesn’t try to get clever.

    • Donnnnn’t Caaaaarrrrrre!

      jesus

      • Trac

        Yes, him too.

    • Big Mike

Completion % against a blitz is a nice stat. But a higher completion % is expected on the short, hot routes. I would argue that if you give Cutler time, you’re dead.

      • Scharfinator

Yeah, I’d rather complete 1/2 of my 40 yard bombs than 3/4 of my 4 yard passes. With you on that.

    • This is that Woodson meant when he sneered, “Same ole Cutler.”
The Pack will NOT blitz Cutler. They’re going to play a cover-shell and make Cutler become his own worst enemy, which usually happens vs Pack.

HOWEVER, one of the reasons I began believing in Cutty more was his last game vs the Pack. I thought he played a very clean game. Jay didn’t lose that game. That showed me a lot, and made me less of a Cutler agnostic.

I think Cutler will continue his efficient ways.
I still haven’t seen him throw it into the stands, but he does dump it off a lot more. Baby steps.
The Butch Prediction of the Sweep shall come to fruition.

So let it be written. So let it be done.

  • CanadaBear

I don’t watch the Fudgies enough to know the answer but from what I’ve seen of Rodgers this year, he looks mortal. Not connecting with his receivers, running game just so-so and the OL not the strength they thought it would be. Hopefully we can extend that for one more week. Unfortunately, Pep looked pretty good last week. Oddly enough, Fabio doesn’t seem to be making the impact plays like he usually does. We should have beaten them last year with an historically bad D. If we can find two healthy safeties for Sunday I think we win. If our safeties aren’t healthy it could be a real dogfight.

    • BillW

Rodgers will bring his A game. Hopefully Allen does too, and sends him row row rowing gently down the loser stream.

    • BillW

And yeah, Peppers has played only 3 games at LB and seems like he may be getting the hang of it. Could be trouble.

Packer fans apparently think Lacy got lazy after his big year last year and is out of shape. I hope so because he’s a load and we don’t have the strength to bring him down easy once he gets a head of steam.

      • CanadaBear

I read that too. Lacy looked very ordinary against us in the last game. Starks was the RB who had success in our last match up. Hopefully Lacy stays fat and slow.

      • Fat Eddie.

    • Jokey

Fabio hurt his groin and may not be 100% – injury report comes out today.

    • Cormonster

Rogers has looked more timid in the pocket this year, but his receivers haven’t helped. They had a lot of dropped passes last week.

      • Amazing how QBs become timid when their Olines suck.
Brady is becoming the same way. I think Brady hasn’t completed a pass of 20 yards all season.

        • MikeBrownhadaPosse

Corm – uhm, I said so (in regards to the Packers shitty o-line this year)…did I not?

  • bearsfantillend

Clay Mathews injured groin in last game. is questionable to play this week.

    • CanadaBear

      That’s a shame!

    • MB30SD

      fuck that douche.

    • Ososfan

      You mean, injured vagina.

  • Jokey

A good summary of Bears players. Milwaukee JS does a better job covering the Packers than our papers on the Bears. They have nice recap and Xs/Os videos with former Packer Levon Butler that I wish we had. They don’t have Biggs though. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/packers/packers-next-opponent-chicago-bears-b99357497z1-276878731.html

    • BillW

I agree – they do a very good job and they don’t seem to have any Rosenbloom type jokers writing for them.

All in all they have civic pride, state pride, and team pride. They don’t cut them down just to appear smarter than other people etc.

    • MB30SD

this is what happens when ALL you have is the packers… well, and farm animals and cheese.

    • Cormonster

Bob McGinn is an excellent sports journalist and one of my favorites. He’s one of the best in the business.

    • johnnywad

They’ll never have Biggs. Never. Know why? No Italian Beef Sandwiches. Its in his paperwork.

  • Jokey

Survey question: as both teams look to get their run games going, who do you think will have more success? Which team needs the running game more?

    • Jokey

Thayer here says if the Bears run game isn’t working at home, when we have the advantage of hearing the snap count, then he’ll really be concerned. http://www.chicagobears.com/multimedia/videos/Thayers-Playbook-Longs-Protection/31b78c20-5fe5-4214-bae3-43cec619e733

If Matt has 20 carries for 20 yards and as result we end up with 2 touchdowns and 18 first downs, I will be very happy. That 1 yard run he had in the 4th quarter on Monday Night that converted a first down was legendary.

      • EnderWiggin

He put his shoulder down and dragged the pile. Very unForteish. Loved it!

        • Esp since he’s 6’0. Kinda hard to get lower that tall. Great play.

          • SC Dave

            6’2″, actually.

      • Big Mike

Doesn”t matter how they move the ball. Just move it.

  • Shady

It pisses me off that the Bears have to play the Packers on a short week. You think the schedule makers could at least put division rivals on a level playing field amid all their ratings grab prime time bullshit.

    • Viva

      Fuck the Pack.

      • MB30SD

        THEEEECE!

    • johnnywad

They love them some Packers. Why do you think the Packers get the toughest team on their schedule to open the season the last few years? They want them healthy and fully prepared when they meet said team.

      #C-O-N….spiracy

      • MB30SD

I don’t know about conspiracy, I think it’s outright what they want to do. No conspiracy needed.

        Cunts.

That said, they’re done. this year is the start of their downfall. What Viva said below.

    • CanadaBear

i posted something about that the other day. Coast to coast road games at night and our reward was our most bitter rival on a short week. Our reward for that, two more road games. When the schedule was released I was pissed but a few of the more rational posters mentioned that if we survive that gauntlet, we might get on a roll in the easier second half and go into the playoffs with some momentum. Hope that comes to fruition.

    • Trac

      Man up! Hee hee.

      • Shady

I’m not escared, it’s just bullshit. I thought the makers made up for it by giving the Bears a bye before their next meeting with the Fudge, but GB will also b come off a bye. Could be game of the year. The Bears also get screwed again by playing the Lions coming off Monday Nighter against the Saints. They also play two Thursday night games before that. Dafuq!?

        • Scharfinator

Part of the problem is that we have a huge fanbase, so we get slotted for a lot of M/Th games.

  • Sactowns#1

Oh it’s fudge week and I’m feelin good!!! Their O line is looking weak and the Bears D-line is looking strong. If Rodgers thought last week was rough just wait till this Sunday.

  • Donnnnn’t Caaaaarrrrrre!

Marshall needs to sit this game out. He was so hurt last game that he was getting pushed around by inferior players. His negated TD was badass though. It’s Packer week though so you’ll have to tranquilize him to get him off the field. Maybe just put him in the red zone?
Alshon looks healthy and showed that burst. Almost took it to the house on that screen.
I was giving Allen a lot of shit during that game but then he put some monster pressure on Smith and pretty much helped seal the game.
A healthy and fully happy and engaged Martellus Bennett is a fucking scary thing. Totally in sync with Cutler.
Other than the Cutler fumble, which kind of looked like he was trying to switch hands to throw it away while being thrown to the ground, I thought he showed poise and character and helped seal that win with some badass quarterbacking. That 3rd down back foot loopy pass to Alshon to beat the entire Jets team and waterboys blitzing him was fucking beautiful.
Forte had a rough game but when we needed those tough yards at the end and to burn the clock he came through like a champ.

    • Barb UMihai Mar

You don’t have to sit him. All you have to do is play him limited snaps. Use him only on 3rd down and in the red zone.

    • Big Mike

Every week Santonio Holmes is on the roster his threat goes up substantially. Sorry, but didn’t you notice Marshall double teamed regularly?

      • Donnnnn’t Caaaaarrrrrre!

Mike, at this point if he doesn’t get healthy we are needlessly setting him up for a 500yd year and chronic problems late in the year when we are prepping for a post season run. Ankle and calf problems? Now is the time to rest him.

        • Big Mike

Might point was more about Santonio Holmes. RE: Marshall, I’d agree with you 14 out of 16 weeks. But this is the Packers.

  • Trac

The best part about Jeff’s interview was his comment about a Bears potential blowout in the works. This is why I’m not pissing about the short week and why Waffle needs to switch his bet by going big with Chicago. If I were a betting man I’d put 5k on da Bears.

    • Shady

Trac, do you have no understanding of the Waffle effect? C’mon man!

Sounds more like the Isis effect.

Every Packer week when we are home I sit back and fondly remember:

    Bears 61 Packers 7

Was at that game; will never forget it despite the many refreshments we all enjoyed during that game (it was a lot easier to bring stuff in then. One guy in our group had essentially a mini bar with him.)

I thought I knew everything about that game and recently read it was Bill Tobin who figured out the Packers signals in the week of preparation. I think it said he was fired by the Packers when Bart Starr took over and was pissed at them.

All that was left was Buddy Ryan’s “mercy is for the weak” attitude. Bart Starr thought it was bush league to keep blitzing all game. Buddy didn’t care.

    • AlbertInTucson

Bart Starr’s (a class act, BTW) final game as Packer Head Coach was a 23-21 loss to the Bears, Dec. 18th, 1983 as Bob Thomas kicked a 22 yarder with 10 seconds to play.

Game time tempurature was 3 degrees with a wind chill of -17.

Bushrod. Mills. If he requires a chip, so be it.

      • bearsfantillend

if he plays like the first game of the year. all we have to do is have someone run close to him and he will fall over. never seen a player on the ground so much as i did when is played Seattle.

Give him back his Bears jersey- he didn’t do much in it the last couple years.

      • Trac

I trust in Vivas answer more.

        • bearsfantillend

fine be that way. he only gives effort every 3 games. Is this the game he is deciding to actually play?

          • CanadaBear

I’m trying to think of 5 games last year when he showed up.

          • of course he’s showing up against his former team that pissed him off by firing his favorite coach who let him be a lazy ass all week except for about 3 hours.

    • Shady

Run the ball right at him. If Matthews is out, give him extra attention with a chip block from a TE or RB. Toss crack back blocks should also work. He’ll be ready for revenge, but the coaching staff should know his weaknesses and plan accordingly.

      • Trac

        Noted.

    • misdirection. Confuses the shit out of him.
Realistically, though, he’s going up against Mills. Put Britton out there to help.

    • johnnywad

See what you could do is, you just wait. You wait until he’s 34. And then what you do is, you ask him to play a position he’s never played, and you do it with a different DC on a team with a bad defense. Then see, what you do is, you put together a good offensive line with a REALLY good quarterback that can get rid of the ball quickly to giant men. And then, ……… wait. He already sucks.

      • Ososfan

All Cutty really needs to do is make a quick side-step and he gone. Peppers isn’t the same, I believe.

        • Big Mike

Not true. Peppers still has good speed. Saw it last week. What he doesn’t have is heart.

    • Big Mike

Bears just beat Rex Ryan and his million different blitz packages. The Packers’ front 7 isn’t anywhere near as good as the Jets’ front 7.

Here’s a good piece about replacing the commissioner. Other than the suggestions for a new one, I thought he made some good points.

    http://mmqb.si.com/2014/09/24/open-letter-to-nfl-owners-roger-goodell-should-be-replaced/

    • BillW

Great points but unfortunately none of them matter. The owners and the commish have lived their whole lives telling other people what to do – not doing what people tell them. Even the McCaskeys hold that same arrogance.

      • CanadaBear

I get that. The only thing that will get Roger ousted is a fall off in the bottom line.

  • WP4Life

I have been reading this site and comments for years though I haven’t commented until now, I have followed because I like the in depth review and comments.

My ramblings are because its Packer week and I cant take losing to this team, their superior mindset anymore, and with the – Just Relax A. Rodgers. I am done, I want to crush them like the 63? 7 game I went too.

Screw him and the whole packer nation, we have been losing to their team for decades. We have played harder at times with our DC turn HC lovie but in the end we usually lost, and last year we gave them the game.

I like tres, and emery approach and mindset, especially on offense.

This week I don’t want them to gain a yard, not a single yard. I want disciplined, hard nosed don’t quit until the whistle is ringing in your ear defensive game.

I wonder if Halas hall feels all the pain we have endured to these guys over the years. I like BParcells approach with the newspaper clippings – I want on every locker A. Rodgers Says we are 1-2 BUT …RELAX…we are playing the Bears this week…all will be ok.

Crush him – I want to see him take a speer to the chest like Cutty did – he can’t.

    Prediction 46 – 10! Bye Bye gb

A very good band I’m growing quite fond of. If you like the music to Sons of Anarchy, this is the band that makes most of it.

    • Cormonster

They are really good. The singer’s voice is great.

Hey Doc, I was listening to a recording last night from my friend’s wedding on Saturday. The second band, Horseshoes and Handgrenades, did a couple nice bluegrass Dead covers of Ripple and Friend of the Devil > Morning Dew > Friend of the Devil. Songs 17 and 22. Song 21 is a nice Little Feat cover. I’m not the biggest bluegrass fan, but I thought these were some great covers. You can listen to the songs by clicking of them on the right. You don’t have to download. Thought you might enjoy.

Nice. I’ll do that right now while I sit in my office and wait for a meeting. I love bluegrass.

That site is a great site to explore some Jerry Joseph shows. Tons of ’em.

Send me a link to a good one. I’ll listen later on.

            Good electric set: https://archive.org/details/jjj2007-03-17.flac16

            Acoustic: https://archive.org/details/JJJ2005-08-25.SBD

Listen carefully to the lyrics on song 4 on the acoustic set. It’s called Ten Killer Fairies. It’s written from the perspective of a woman who is about to be executed by the drug cartels in Mexico along with her whole family and neighborhood. Amazing lyrics and a crazy sad-emotional song. He has a gift. It’s based on a true event that happened. His bro lives in Mexico.

I really don’t know where to begin. I’ve never heard a bad show. Just listen to whatever.

  • Cormonster

A close friend since childhood is a die-hard Packer fan, and very knowledgeable. He used to be a sports reporter in Wisconsin and covered the Packers, so he gets some good inside info on the Packers from his old colleagues. He named his son Brett. He was not very confident about the team before the year started. Predicted 7-9, with 10-6 possible if they caught some breaks. He said they are soft like last year. He doesn’t like Rogers either, saying he cares more about his passer rating than winning games. He said Rogers is an asshole too and most of the players don’t like him because he always deflects blame onto others. Anyways, here’s the text he sent me last night:

My advise to Bears Nation – go for the throat early and often vs. an extremely vulnerable and fragile GB crew. Hit em where they’re weak, which is everywhere hittable.

He’s a cool Packers fan. Loves the rivalry, and his favorite player since Favre is Peanut Tillman. He’s got Cutler on all 4 of his FF teams (good value according to him). I’ve tried to get him to post here, but he’s too busy with his job and family (He is an AD at a college out west). He would be a great contributor during Packer week. He doesn’t talk trash or gloat after a win. He always has good insight and analysis of the games.

    • CanadaBear

Good stuff Cor. Too bad he doesn’t come on here. It would be nice to have an actual exchange without the troll BS. How was the wedding reception/extravaganza?

      • DocNitty(BallsStillOrnamental)

Judging by the set list he just shared with me…..epic.

      • Cormonster

Great day and night all around. The wedding was really cool. Jen had a beautiful hand made white dress with lots of lace, and Marc had a hand made corduroy suit with different colored patches sewn together. It looked really cool. They got married in a wooded cove on a perfect weather day. Right after an Apache reading, a gust of wind blew through and leaves rained down. Kind of surreal.

All three bands kicked ass. It was loud, but the sound was perfect. All different kinds of music. Rocked until about 1am, then headed to the campsite to cook some burritos on the grill and bonfire party with everyone who was still up until about 4am. I finally recovered on Tuesday, but it was worth it. Got to see some old friends for the first time in a while, and meet some new ones. I had some great conversations about music and shows with one of Marc’s friends who I had never met.. The next morning when I asked Marty’s wife where he was, she said he was at church. Turns out he is a minister. I never would have guessed it.

        • CanadaBear

My bike riding buddy and I met a good guy on a tour that turned out to be a minister. Good guy. Glad you had a good time. If it took you until Tuesday to come around, it would have killed me.

    • BillW

I’ve known several “real” Packer fans and always found them knowledgable and respectful of the rivalry. By that I means fans that were born and raised in Wisconsin and moved to Chicago. Smart enough to leave Wisconsin.

Then there are those that were born and raised in Chicago and seemed to take to the Packers back in the 60s when they were a dynasty. I guess when they were kids they thought somehow being a fan of the winning team made them a winner too.

      • Cormonster

Hey now! I was born in Waukegan, but have lived almost my entire life in Wisconsin. I grew up in Kenosha, but now live along the Mississippi. I don’t miss that area one bit. Way too many people for me. The Packers – Bears rivalry was huge in Kenosha. About 60% of the people were Packer fans, and the other 40% Bears fans. A lot of trash talking went on during Packer week. There’s a couple Bears bars in La Crosse where I live, but the big rivalry here is Vikings and Packers, so I don’t get too much shit from the Packers fans.

        • Ososfan

“You never did the Kenosha kid?”

        • Trac

My only memory of Waukegan was getting rear ended while on a cow tipping mission one night with some buddies when I was in HS. Some drunk non insurance carrying fool totaled my buddies trans am and we had to wait an hour for the police to show up. Turrible city. Oh, and you should have seen the injuries the accident caused(wink, wink) to the dude that rear ended us, he should’ve been wearing a seat belt. he he.

      • Big Mike

The worst fans in football, in my view, are the ones that choose the “rival” as their team just to be dicks, or because the “rival” is on a run. I see Cowboys fans in DC, or Packers’ fans in Chicago and parts south of the border and so on. I’m not talking about transplants. I’m talking about Natives. When I see someone with an “out of town” hat, jersey etc I always ask, how did you get to be a fan of this team. If they weren’t born there, handed the tradition by their father, or have a best friend playing on that team, I’m simply not impressed by their show of support.

    • Trac

Now isn’t that special. It’s nice to the little packer fan is it? Wake up man!

  • WP4Life

CD out 4 packers. not many are as explosive hitter as bostic but cd plays zone read much better. hope bositc settles down on pass and looks for receiver coming across, and hits the right run gap

    • Bostic is really lost playing zone. Rodgers is going to whiz it by his head all day while he flails about.
This would have been a perfect game to play nickle base if Peanut were healthy.
As it is, if we stay in nickle. Frey would be the target (and Bostic would probably still play in the nickle, though maybe in this game we leave D.J. in nickle).

This game will be won in the trenches though. If our 4 dlinemen contain/pressure Vadgers, then he’ll have to make superhuman throws on a consistent basis.

      • bearsfantillend

Bostic has just been playing dumb the last couple weeks, just for this game. Suckering the Packers into thinking he’s a weakness. gonna get at least one pick and several great pass defenses.

    • BillW

And Hub’s article in the SunTimes said he plays Mike LB. Poor Hub.

Telander and Morrissey, this is why no one respects you. Telander doesn’t know football and Morrissey is too big of a pussy to tell Telander when he doesn’t even know which fucking team our TE played for when trying to bash him.

That is not just ignorant on Telander’s part, it’s negligent.

He obviously has traded his integrity for an agenda.

  • “Coordinator Mel Tucker was retained after debuting with No. 30 rankings
in yards and points allowed. The Bears still can’t stop the run (26th,
144.9), but they lead the NFL in takeaways (eight) after tying for 13th
    in ’13. It’s a no-frills 4-3 with double-A gap deceptions and mostly
zone coverage. According to STATS, the blitz rate of 19.6% ranks 25th.
The Bears rank 11th in points (62), 23rd in yards (377.7).”

    • WP4Life

for me PA and PF are the only thing that matters…everything else is a tell tale sign

      • True, but I found it interesting where we rank in the blitz. I think the lower the better. We don’t blitz that much, which means our front four is pressuring.
I find that Tucker does throw in blitzes at key moments, esp third downs and redzone, but I don’t have the stats to verify it, just off my eyes and memory.

        • Big Mike

Rushing QBs, limit the blitz opportunities.

    • Big Mike

Pretty sure points allowed is the only thing that matters. Also at this stage of the season, who and where you have played matters. 2/3rds of your games on the road…Run defense has improved by 50 yds per game since the last half of last year. They also have played 2 very mobile QBs, which takes the reward out of blitzing.

  • MB30SD

    • Trac

Happy New year? Are you Chinese or something?

  • Trac

4 letter network has us ranked 8th, Cheese 17th. Anyone know what our pass defense ranking is? I didn’t see that below.

    • Trac

To answer my own question, we’re ranked 14th on pass D. Looking at our stat rankings, Meh! Turnovers have kept us alive this year. We need to find our sea legs, no consistency in any category except QB play and forcing turnovers. Cutty is earning his keep.

  • Ososfan

I know a lot of you don’t really care and Kudos to Mel Tucker and his Defensive schemes, but I don’t see much credit given to the new positional coaches hired by Emery. Pas and Herring seem to be guys that love teaching teachnique and don’t allow much BS, Kromer is the same. Can’t wait to see the took keep developing because it seems that even Bostic and McClellin have become better in a short amount of time… Greene is still on the fence. I want to see WTF Frey needs to understand to become better, he looks like he’s regressing.

    • EnderWiggin

I’m giving Frey a pass so far. As long as they guy in his zone is covered and he is near the ball at the end of the play, he’s OK in my book. He looked confused at times last year too, but he played the run decent. He hasn’t had much time with the new staff and scheme either. I think he’ll be fine.

      • MB30SD

His man was the one making a lot of plays last night… but he was thrown in the deep end without his wingies.

Let’s see how he does with a full week of practice.

When the fuck is mcmanis getting his ass back?!

        • EnderWiggin

Last night? Your weeks must fly by.

          • MB30SD

Sigh. Do I need to text you the dick – shoe pic too? Just asking erik, he got it Monday night

        • Donnnnn’t Caaaaarrrrrre!

Frey got abused by Kerley all night long……all. Night.

      • EnderWiggin

Ya know – I wish we could have afforded Roach last year. He’d look good in the nickle about now.

        • MB30SD

I’ve been saying the same thing. Posted his 2013 stats a couple threads ago. He had a MONSTER year for the raiders. If you didn’t see them and you feel like kicking emery in the ass, go look em up end

          • Ososfan

Yea man I saw him mentioned a lot last year. Roach was the real deal.

      • Trac

I don’t know who they were but there were several times against the Jets that I saw the third defender finally make the stop in the secondary. There was some sloppy tackling out dare.

    • Trac

You can thank Kromer as he walks out the door with some of them at the end of the season. No way he won’t get some offers. Unfortunately for us, with success comes the job offers.

      • Donnnnn’t Caaaaarrrrrre!

Soon but not quite yet Trac. He doesn’t call plays and although our boys are better there is much work to be done. I predict him gone after next year

      • Ososfan

Don’t say that Trac, I hope not. Kromer can go ahead and look for other hungry coaches out there to help him out, I don’t disagree at all that he will be receiving plenty of offers, just hope he stays a while….

  • Trac

It’s gonna be like to trains running into each other. Packers, dead!

  • johnnywad

Anybody doubt the Jets will beat the Lions? I don’t. Stafford will shit himself against that rush.

    • Trac

      But…..but….the Lions are ranked 12th.

    • Big Mike

That will be an interesting game to watch.

    • The thing is, the Jet’s offense will be just as horrible against Suh and Co.
