    those eyes…

    • MB30SD

Oh, and your position on the draft is fucking heresy! What is wrong with you Jeff?

      I. Just. Don’t. Get. It. (see my post at the top of the last thread)

      • Neither do I. I might actually enjoy the draft more than the SB.

        • EnderWiggin

          Not this season…

    • johnnywad

El Nino being forecast for this year. Possibly worst ever. You’ll get yours mister.

      • MB30SD

Yes, i know. I am very excited. It means two things where I live. ..

        1. EXCEPTIONALLY warm ocean water from about late May into October. Can’t wait. I’ll be surfing as much as possible.

        2. Insane amounts of rain (and snow) once winter arrives. Which we desperately need, but winter will be long and wet and dreary. But at least I’ll get to board a lot again.

Silver linings… that said, I may just have to winter in Cape Town darlings.

        • Sactowns#1

Its all about the big dumps of powder up in the Sierras. I already got my season pass for next year ..includes Sierra Squaw and Alpine so I’m ready to rumble! This el nino better show!

  • SC Dave

“Twitter went aflame with it” – who gives a fuck? The saddest thing in modern life is “many”

    • SC Dave

So, is the “twitterverse” like the Oscars, Emmys, Obies, and god knows how many others? Those who believe laughable hubris, self-congratulatory indulgences, and adoration of pathetic sycophants make them, a priori, worthy of respect?

  • It’s the offseason, so I’ll go a little off topic. I was reading some Rousseau today , and I’ll just let the quote speak for itself.

“In a monarchy the opulence of a private individual never places him above a prince; but in a Republic it could easily place him above the law. The government has power no longer, and the rich are always the real sovereigns”

He warned against a plutocratic democracy in the 1770s. Wow.

    • tobijohn

I know this much: Nobody is going to be quoting Rousseau over at the Bleacher Report or Pro Football Talk. That’s why this place is basically my home page…

      • This other quote which struck me because I’ve been dwelling on this topic quite a bit recently. But I’ll paraphrase:

“To do well in life, one muse love his profession” …lest restlessness, discontent, covetousness, contempt, self pity render an individual apart, disturb him most when alone with his being. This is the truest form of oppression.

Well the quote part is direct, the rest is sort of my interpretation of it based on some of his own words.

It’s difficult to find a profession in this consumer-based society which makes you proud when you look in the mirror before you go to work. How proud can you be selling cell phones at a kiosk, or being vice president of a company that makes dildos?

        • DaMurph

Not sure about the cell phone gig, but MB could definitely be proud as VP of San Diego Dildos. Ladies, make every day a sunny day!

          • MB30SD

            My next venture.

…of course, our most popular selling model will be a casting of my own marvelous phallus.

Btw, saw The Grand Budapest Hotel last night. Fiennes was brilliant. Classic anderson. .. If you like that sort of thing. I, do.

          • Doooonnnn’t Caaaaare!

          • MB30SD

yep, that was pretty much it.

          • she probably doesn’t enjoy coming off as part of the pretentious intelligentsia crowd…You’re such a jew (NTTAWWT).

I’ve actually been meaning to watch that movie, and some artsy Italian flick (“Beautiful life”?). Take your next date to watch this movie as a social experiment.

          • MB30SD

            asshole

          • ha. Love the last part “Rated G”.

          • johnnywad

You should change your handle to “Justin Verlander’s Penis”. See she’s got a movie coming out?

          • MB30SD

I was actually thinking of something more like, “Ralph Fiennes’s Exceptionally Polite Phallus”

Yes, I saw. They played a trailer before the movie last night. My date asked me if I liked Cameron Diaz… I said, “no but I want to marry Kate Upton”. She goes, “who?”

I almost ended the date right there.

          • That should be your offseason handle, MB.

            DiegoDildos,Inc.

          • I try to class this joint up, and everyone just focuses on the Dildo Inc! lol

        • Irish Sweetness 4 StephTuitt

I think he means that if you’re selling cell phones at a kiosk then it’s because you decided to sell phones at a kiosk. You accepted that role. You can’t expect a satisfying life if you continue to do that which is not your true calling. We choose to suffer … or do that which stirs within us.

          Thanks for the Rousseau today!

          • Rousseau was an interesting cat, to say the least. He didn’t do shit, then at 37, he suddenly was “thunderstruck” (Paul on Damascus moment) and proceeded to demolish everything and everyone.

His ideas are unique – He inspired all factions of the Republicans (his scorching of Monarchy), Marxism (His argument that owning property is the baisis of all inequality) and Libertarianims/anarchism (His contention that man is born free, and should remain so uncorrupted by gov).

He was trying to make a bridge between the atheists and christians, as he called it, a “civil war” (sound familiar?), and he ended up pissing both parties off so much that they temporarily stopped attacking each other and attacked him. He had to flee from then on and became almost as paranoid as Irish.

    • Trac

Just imagine what he could have done with a twitter account. (for doc).

  • Trac

I wonder why Jeff really hates mock drafts? Does he hate them after he reads them? Does he not read them and thus has formed a hatred for them because he refuses to read them? Does he hate them because he hates who wrote them? Is he afraid the mocks may be right and he is wrong? What if mock drafts benefit mankind far more than he realizes? What if the worst possible mock scenario comes to pass? What if there were only ONE mock draft? Yes, I believe he would still hate them. He he.

    • Irish Sweetness 4 StephTuitt

He’s right though, mocks are just pointless guesses based on an impossible number of combinations spread over the sample space. But what else are the girls going to write about in the off-season ?

      • Trac

It would be fun if there was a nationally televised mock with one qualified fan from each team the night before the draft. Super Bowl tickets for the fan with the most points.

        • Trac

I think I’ll send a memo to Mr. Trump should he buy the Bills. He could do a show and call it Da Aprentice and run the program for the entire year as he gives fans the chance to replace GM’s all across the nation.

          • MB30SD

you’re onto something… how about letting fans play GM for a week at a time. The lucky one gets to run next year’s draft for them. Pick every round. Have access to the scouting reports and have 3-4 in-person meetings with the scouts moneyball style.

I like it. It would make for interesting TV, and the bills can’t get any worse can they? On second though, maybe trump should buy the Browns.

  • MB30SD

ok, ok, ok… maybe I’M the one that’s out of touch, and I apologize in advance for flogging my already very deceased horse, but… what in THEE fuck am I missing here Jeff?

    DaBearsBlog @dabearsblog
Again, beat writers denigrating the schedule release as cause for excitement shows how out of touch they are with fan base. Fans love it.

Do fans really love the schedule release? I see it as a 30 second, ‘that’s interesting’ moment in the timeline of the NFL season… and maybe do some mental maths about how tough the overall sched is to us. At very best. Yeah, I might plan a visit to Soldier later in the year, but plans change, nothing is in stone, so I don’t put any importance on it. And in the end guessing… which games you think… you might be able to… possibly win is a total crapshoot. Much more so than the…. wait for it…. NFL Draft (AKA, man christmakah)

Am I really the one out of touch here guys? Do fans looooove the schedule release and feel the draft should be a single press release with just a list of names and numbers 2-3 weeks after the event happens?

What am I missing? How out of touch must I fucking be?!?!

    • Shady

I don’t like it when people generalize for an entire group of people. Fans this. People that. No. We are not the Borg. We each have our own thoughts and feelings in regards to football and our beloved.

I don’t mind the schedule release, I just don’t like the fact it leads to silly record predictions and prognostications based on last seasons results. Each season is an entity of itself independent of what happened in the past. That’s why I believe evaluating a teams’ record and/or probability of success for the upcoming season based on a schedule release is downright silly.

Now, I would understand if Jeff just thought the all the debate and prognostication leading up to the NFL Draft was overkill, I would agree. It’s gotten out of hand in terms of the discussion, debate and mocking. Go ahead and move the draft back to this week. But for him to say that fans care more about the schedule release, or that the draft doesn’t matter as much as the upcoming schedule it simply ignorant.

Jeff has a tendency to stick by his thoughts (J Webb a starter, APod sucking etc.) which I’ll give him credit for doing, but sometimes it just ends up with him sounding silly. In this case there is just no denying the importance of the NFL draft for a franchise. And having lived throughout the Angelo years, Bears fans should know best.

      • MB30SD

Well shady, you are so sensitive this morning. I let out an audible “awwwwww” for you. : (

That said, it must have taken you an hour to type that out on your little iphone. Get back to work!

And answer your requests to rumble tonight after 8.

Ps. I agree with your post.

    • Johnathan Wood

as somebody with no money who is therefore not looking to buy tickets, the schedule release gets a “meh” from me.

If I was looking to pick a weekend to head to Chicago and/or go to a game, then it would be a big deal.

      • Yeah, if I were a season ticket holder or picked one game a year to travel to, then yeah, I would look forward to it, but that’s not the case on all accounts. If it weren’t for this blog and NFL net going over schedules, I wouldn’t know until Sep 1st who we’re playing.

    • Trac

Jeff can’t stand the prolonged foreplay leading up to his shtick my man. I’m up for moving up the draft if it means no more twitter threads.

With the 14th pick in the 2014 NFL Draft the Chicago Bears select…….Timmy McClellin, sophomore backup tweener OLB and high motor guy, University of Boise A&T

  • Trac

Let me explain the value that mock drafts add to the average fan.

It’s simple really. They cause the average shmoe like me to look up players bio’s that I’ve never heard of before. And it’s fun to dream up draft scenarios.

A Lions beat writer just tweeted, citing a source, that the Lions are looking to package their #10 overall pick and Suh to move up to the top of the draft.

Let’s all remember now why they’re the LOLions.

  • Trac

Hey guys, I’m going to play the GP’s advocate and throw this guy into the draft mix. Some guy on the PFT comments section thinks Emery’s gonna fool everyone and draft this guy.

Would any of you guys be pissed off if the Bears used the 1st round pick for the best RB in the draft?

    http://www.rotoworld.com/player/cfb/130756/carlos-hyde

    • Johnathan Wood

I would be highly pissed, for a few reasons:
      1) Hyde’s not the best RB in the draft, IMO.
      2) there is no way in hell he’s starting for them the next 2 years, and they have a lot more pressing needs right now
      3) If you’re gonna do a luxury offensive pick, why not go Ebron, who’s 1) better and 2) at a thinner position in the draft
      4) Recently best value for RBs is outside of round 1. High quantity of quality players.

    • Trac

yeah, pretty dumb question. Emery so far seems to go for the non-sexy player that has the ability to carry the wow factor.

Wow! I never would have used the first pick for this cat but you never know?
