Thanksgiving Day Football Thread

| November 28th, 2013

I know many of you think the Packers, with Rodgers, are a greater threat to the Bears postseason hopes. But that should not matter. With the Lions owning the tiebreaker, the Bears need a one game lead on them and that might be too difficult for this defense to pull off. Root for Green Bay today.

And as always, I give thanks for those of you who’ve spent time on this site over the years. I love this site because of you.

Feel like gambling on Thanksgiving Day? Drink six beers, select a member of your family and tell them exactly how you feel about them. Or bet on sports. I make my three picks for the day after the jump.

  • A loss would essentially end the Packers postseason hopes as they’d need to make up two games with Detroit over the final four. Matt Flynn wasn’t spectacular against the Vikings but he was professional and I think Mike McCarthy will feel comfortable running his offense with him under center. Not sure Packers have enough firepower to win but think they’ll keep it closer than the six points.

  • I have watched the Cowboys a bunch this season. I’m not sure they’re currently nine points better than anyone.

  • When these games are important, when there is a lot at stake, they are crazy close affairs and points are hard to come by. The winner of this one will be in the pole position for the six-seed in the AFC tournament and a pain in the ass for their opponents in December. Joe Flacco was complaining about the wildcat this week. Large Benjamin was not. I’ll take Steelers to win outright, 16-10.

    Go…Pac….Pac…Pack….sorry…can’t say it!!

  • Maddbearfan

That’s like The Fonz admitting he was wrong!!!

  • gpldan

I can’t root for the Pack. Can’t do it. Can’t play with them. Can’t coach them. Can’t do it.

But I can wish for a sideline play that runs into Gym Shorts and kneecaps him somehow, such that he is on the ground in severe pain and needs to be carted off with foam on his goatee.

That would be a day to celebrate.

    • Maddbearfan

Oh no…don’t want him off the field..we need his wisdom and insight to blow the game. Anyone else might do it right…don’t want that!!!

    • Cormonster

I’m with you gp. I tried once and felt ill by the 2nd quarter until I started rooting against them. Maybe if it was the last game of the year and a Packer win got the Bears in the playoffs I could root for them.

  • tobijohn

Root for the Packers against the Lions, especially when it helps our chances? No problem…

  • CanadaBear

Happy Turkey Day from across the border! Hope it’s a good one for all of you. I currently hate the Kitties way more than the Fudgies, so this will be easy.

  • Ghost of Waffle

Happy Thanksgiving boys. I’m thankful for family, friends and large, prototype #1 WR’s.

    • tobijohn

I’m thankful that the Bears’ D can’t possibly get any worse. I try not to do it in the markets but I’m picking a bottom here…

  • Chris O

I know we want Detroit to lose to bolster our playoff hopes, but I just cant do it. I keep finding myself rooting for the Pack to lose.

  • 4ever85 (AKA Butch Deadlift)

I keep rooting for the Pack, then they pan to Uncle Rico on the sideline, and find myself wavering.

  • 4ever85 (AKA Butch Deadlift)

Also, happy Thanksgiving, Turkeys. Another thanksgiving, another year of not eating fried turkey for me. Oh, and I’m sick, so there’s that.

  • BerwynBomber

Classic gym shorts-led Kittens. They should be leading this game by three scores; instead, they’re up by seven. They may blow this yet.

    • 4ever85 (AKA Butch Deadlift)

Not with Flynn. The Pack will have to score on defense and specials, but with Flynn even if the Kitties turn it over, they won’t be able to capitalize.

      • BerwynBomber

Yep, you proved right. But Detroit still might be the most self-destructive and stupidly decent team in recent memory. Suh and Megatron are absolute beasts though and Bush has proved a good fit for them.

  • BearFanInDE

guess Mike McCarthy isn’t the genius everybody told us he was…

    • BerwynBomber

Agreed and never thought he was. Their only “genius” is the guy in sweats who ordinarily wears number 12. It is as if his loss has even affected their defense. A team in free fall the last four weeks. At this point they should shut him down the remainder of the season. Have a Tolzein/Flynn/Wallace back-up QB competition the last four games. Right up through week 17 at Soldier.

  • Maddbearfan

Well, looks like the Packers are getting their asses handed to them. See everybody Sunday.

  • MB30SD

Hey trac, you must be pretty fired up that your guys took it to the packers today. Good for you man.

    (hee hee)

  • Trac

You Bastard MB. As a matter of fact, I took a break from the family to check the blog knowing fo sho there’d b some smack coming from you. Other than the fact that once again, I was right and you were wrong, that game sucked big ones. Looks like we’re gonna have to wait for them to as you say “implode”. Yeah, makes you feel hopeful doesn’t it?

    • MB30SD

      Hahahahaha… welcome.

Come on maings. The packers are worse than us with Flynn. that entire organization is aaron rodgers. They SUCK without him. it’s actually pretty amazing.

Here’s something up your alley. I swear to god if my kids ever try to bully someone like this instead of helping them I will bring the wrath of zues upon them. Kids can be so damn cruel.Every time you think you have it rough, watch a video like this.

      • Trac

What a wonderful kid. God see’s the heart my man, what a heart that kid has.

  • BerwynBomber

Good news! The Cowboys D is worse than ours.

  • MB30SD

in other news… was that selena gomez with that dallas/raidahs halftime show?

She’s a really pretty girl… her, uhhh… ‘music’… blows turribly, but you know, can’t have everything.

    • Cormonster

Her lip syncing was worse than Madonna at the super bowl. It’s “music” for 10-16 year old girls. The 13 year old girl who sang the National Anthem for the Detroit game had a fantastic voice.

  • MB30SD

wow, raiders D is turrible too. man, there are some really bad Ds out there.

…which doesn’t make me feel one bit better about ours unfortunately.

    • 4ever85 (AKA Butch Deadlift)

Cowboy’s is pretty pitiful too. Defense in general looks very shaky this year, but we’re the creme-de-la-creme in run stopping.

  • Maddbearfan

Nice job of Steelers Coach Tomlin standing on the field while a returner was coming up the sideline and you can watch the replay and you can see Tomlin is watching the runner comming towards him and “accidently” stepped foward like he was startled….what a total crock of shit. Also the ref keeping up with the play had to run behind Tomlin because he was standing on the field and didn’t call the a penalty on the coach? That’s complete bullshit. And Tomlin says he was watching the jumbtron? Aren’t the screens overhead? That’s not where his eyes are looking!
