I want no injuries, and I’m definitely going to overreact.

    • Irish Sweetness

Honestly, I just want to see my boy Crabtree not break anything. He’s on most of my FF teams.

      • EnderWiggin

        Wow, you draft EARLY.

  • Irish Sweetness

(from Henry V, spoken by King Henry)

    Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more;
Or close the wall up with our English dead.
In peace there’s nothing so becomes a man
    As modest stillness and humility:
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
    Then imitate the action of the tiger;
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood,
    Disguise fair nature with hard-favour’d rage;
    Then lend the eye a terrible aspect;
Let pry through the portage of the head
Like the brass cannon; let the brow o’erwhelm it
As fearfully as doth a galled rock
O’erhang and jutty his confounded base,
Swill’d with the wild and wasteful ocean.
Now set the teeth and stretch the nostril wide,
Hold hard the breath and bend up every spirit
To his full height. On, on, you noblest English.
Whose blood is fet from fathers of war-proof!
Fathers that, like so many Alexanders,
Have in these parts from morn till even fought
And sheathed their swords for lack of argument:
Dishonour not your mothers; now attest
That those whom you call’d fathers did beget you.
Be copy now to men of grosser blood,
And teach them how to war. And you, good yeoman,
Whose limbs were made in England, show us here
The mettle of your pasture; let us swear
    That you are worth your breeding; which I doubt not;
For there is none of you so mean and base,
That hath not noble lustre in your eyes.
I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game’s afoot:
Follow your spirit, and upon this charge
Cry ‘God for Sayers, Payton, and Saint George Halas!’

    • CanadaBear

I think that last line might have been added at a later date!

  • That Guy

I want no injuries, I’ll watch with mild interest, and then I’ll overreact when I’m drunk by the third quarter.

  • Russian Hacked Pacebot 2.0

I want to see our 6’5 WR Javon Wims and our arena league dude Malachi something or other fucking go off like maniacs.

    • BenderMcLugh

Bray to Wims would be awesome all night, no need to see Trubs dammit

  • Russian Hacked Pacebot 2.0

Football is football bitches! Let’s do this!

  • AlbertInTucson

None of the above on that list for me.

    • CanadaBear

Me too. I’m going to watch most of the game (if I can, I’ll be on the road) because it’s the Beloved.

      • AlbertInTucson

Starts at 5 here. I will have the recorder going and be listening on Sirius if I’m still on the way home from work.

        • CanadaBear

I’ve already got it set up at home. We’re heading to Victoria for an overnight. It will also include a trip here. Spectacular!

          • BenderMcLugh

damn that is gorgeous man, have fun!

          • CanadaBear

Thanks. It really is a stunning place. Even in the winter! Gotta stay overnight to catch the ferry that is way too early in the morning. Going to do Ride Idaho starting this weekend. Hopefully I’ll get to meet Doc Nitty tomorrow. We’re still trying to hammer out the details. I don’t have a cell phone and he’s got 8 people with him!! Life can be complicated!!!!!!!

          • SC Dave

No shit… looks awesome. If either of you ever end up near Myrtle Beach, SC, (actually, right outside Murrells Inlet) check this place out. Seems less spectacular on the horticultural side, but settings of some of the sculptures are especially cool.

          • CanadaBear

            NICE!

          • BenderMcLugh

I’ve never been to Myrtle, its on the list.

          • SC Dave

Well, the Mrs. called it The Redneck Riviera years back.

It’s very developed with many large buildings. Not really my style, but the strand itself is impressive.

          • Sactowns#1

My family has property a couple hours inland from there. Myrtle Beach can be really hit or miss depending on the event that weekend. They have everything from Black Bike Week to the Carolina Country Music festival and everything in between. I will say this, the best buffet I have ever gone to was in Myrtle Beach. Crabby Mikes. So good and such a smoking deal! https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g54459-d436158-Reviews-Crabby_Mike_s_Calabash_Seafood_Company-Surfside_Beach_South_Carolina.html

      • SC Dave

Got GamePass (and no TV) so I’ll probably watch it tomorrow since I have the day off and serious laundry to do.

  • CanadaBear

Nice trip down memory lane. One of my favorite Bears games of all time. Esp Denny’s press conference after the game!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    http://www.espn.com/blog/chicago-bears/post/_/id/4708328/inside-the-play-that-highlighted-brian-urlachers-career-night

  • Malice Halice

I finally found a Bears bar here In Saint Paul so I’ll be watching the game there, in peace. Expecting a good time regardless as long as nobody gets hurt. Other than that I’m just glad to be witnessing a New Testament with da Bears franchise. AAAND I’m rockin my MT10 jersey at work. Bear down!

  • I’m still drunk from last night, so Bears can’t lose by that much.

Also, sloppy head is the best

    • CanadaBear

      Always lots of saliva!

You and Butch certainly agree on how to give the perfect BJ to someone. NTTAWWT.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

      Does my one-eyed willy count?

  • CanadaBear

I have to agree about one thing in Jeff’s twitter feed, ketchup does indeed make everything taste like ketchup. Not that I care what other people use for condiments but the bottle of ketchup in our fridge has been there for a long time!

    • AlbertInTucson

I use it periodically. Fries and yes, even, occassionally a hot dog (in addition to mustard) but never on my eggs. Never understood THAT concept.

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Ketchup on fries, very small amount on a burger, never any on a hot dog, and hot sauce on eggs.

        • John F

Wife does yellow mustard on scrambled eggs, don’t know how she does it …….

        • Russian Hacked Pacebot 2.0

heathen, the only thing that goes in eggs is crème fraiche and tarragon. Were you born in a barn?

          • SC Dave

            How cultured of you.

      • CanadaBear

I use it on fries (if I’m alone. If my Beloved Bride is with me I have to order a side of gravy) and maybe my burger if it’s too dry. Other than that, not so much.

        • AlbertInTucson

I’ll use A-1 on the fries, too.

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

A-1 is the most vile substance on the planet.

          • John F

A-1 is pretty good, just use it in moderation

          • AlbertInTucson

How about some Lea & Perrin’s Worcestershire?

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

            I approve.

    • beninnorcal

I love ketchup, guilty as charged. To each their own. I put ketchup on my ketchup.

      • CanadaBear

Absolutely! You like what you like. I’m always amazed when self-proclaimed foodies critique peoples eating habits. Like it’s any of their business. Mostly it’s just an excuse on their part to let you know where you don’t measure up.

    • BerwynBomber

I only use ketchup on fries (French and home) and potato wedges.

But can’t say I understand the anti-ketchup/hot dog purist folks. Kinda reminds me of people who have to tell us how much they hate the royal family stuff. Who gives a flying F.

      • CanadaBear

Exactly! I don’t use it on dogs but if somebody does, good on ya! I have just the opposite problem with the royal family up here. People love them and can’t seem to get enough of them. Really don’t get it but it doesn’t bother me one bit.

        • BerwynBomber

We all have our stupid shit/silly obsessions. Arguably this blog is testament to one of them.

          #ToEachTheirOwn

      • Malice Halice

Mild sauce on my fries. I don’t eat hotdogs in Mn, I travel 15min just to got to a Chicago based store with the Scott Peterson polishes. That’s about it.

  • BerwynBomber
    • Johnnywad

      (Cutler checks bank statement:……..shrugs)

      • Russian Hacked Pacebot 2.0

huge bank account, Bears leader in all things QB, hot wife…….
If we built the team better or had a little better injury luck in 2011 and/or not losing Urlacher to that knee injury things could possibly have been different. Alas, the window closed.
        Time to move on.

        • BerwynBomber

Still wouldn’t mind hearing him on FOX, but wonder if that ship has sailed.

In fact, wondered that last year after he signed with MIA.

      • BerwynBomber

You mean pretty much the same attitude he had his entire tenure in Chicago?
(Semi-kidding, but that was too easy.)

        • Johnnywad

LOL. Yeah. I was kind of playing on that sentiment a little.

Just read he is #15 on the list of all time Football earnings for QBs. Manning boys are 1 and 2.

          • BerwynBomber

Cousins should be skyrocketing up that list by now. Two tags? The huge MIN deal?

A worst paydays list would be interesting. Osweiler’s HOU deal would be in the running. Glennon too.

          • Johnnywad

I only scanned it quickly but I believe it was total money paid out to date.

  • CanadaBear

If Jeff had an option for no injuries and that’s all I would have selected that one. I don’t agree about the rest is meaningless. To me that says the die is cast and the 53 is determined before training camp. Really don’t agree with that.

    • BerwynBomber

Yeah, no team wants injuries, so that tells me nothing.

The rooks, borderline 53 guys and the UDFAs are what most interest in me. That and the cosmetics (largely) of Nagy on the sideline.

    • AlbertInTucson

Meaningless, or not, I’d like to see the offense move the ball and NOT fulfill my prediction of ” 3 & Out” on the first possession.

      • Johnnywad

Do we know if starters are playing?

        • AlbertInTucson

Have to assume Trubisky takes SOME snaps.

        • Sactowns#1

I dont think anyone knows yet. If I kill myself to get home by 5pm and no starters are playing I’m going to be super annoyed.

          • Johnnywad

I’d not do that to yourself for the HoF game

  • AlbertInTucson

The TV Schedule has the time slot as 3 hours.

    LOL.

Wish there was an over/under bet I could place on THAT.

Last time an NFL exhibition game was played in 3 hours or less was probably before most of us were born.

    • BerwynBomber

      Which network is televising?

      • beninnorcal

        NBC

  • willbest

I don’t have any love for the buckeyes, but I thought we moved beyond making a man responsible for the gossip of his wife.

    • Johnnywad

Isn’t he on paid leave? I’d love to be held responsible like that.

      • willbest

Doesn’t the college season start in 3 weeks. Guy is a competitor he wants Championships

        • Johnnywad

I’d wager he’s still very hands on via technology. Granted not the same as being there. But I bet he’s still very much running the show. Additionally, isn’t the first month of the season basically preseason games for them?

          • willbest

I thought the move to the playoff system got those teams to schedule a few non conference games against real opponents and not just northeastern Kentucky state

          • Johnnywad

It did a bit. But OSU will have one real game in their first four against TCU. Unless Rutgers counts. Then it’s two. But they’ll likely roll Rutgers.

          • AlbertInTucson

            Didn’t influence the SEC.

Auburn will play Washington but that game is in Atlanta which will hardly be a road game for Auburn or even a neutral site.

      • willbest

Its probably paid leave because there is no way to prove he violated any character provision in his contract. His wife sure as shit isn’t going to say she told him and cost herself millions

        • AlbertInTucson

The wife is an R.N. and employed by the University.

          • willbest

But what does her responsibilities have to do with him?

          • AlbertInTucson

His detractors are saying if she told him, he was contractually bound to report it

        • AlbertInTucson

The detractors are trying to tie this into a Title IX violation.

    • John F

That’s a bit disingenuous Will. If Meyer has known for several years (the asst coach was with him in FL) that one of his “employees” was a domestic abuser and he didn’t at least get rid of the guy, and then he lied about knowing anything, that’s a problem.

      • willbest

If he had direct evidence sure. His wife’s hearsay, even if she said something while he was listening, doesn’t rise to actionable statements.

        • John F

It’s not a court of law, it’s a court of public opinion and a university’s reputation. When you make $5-10 million to coach football, a different set of rules applies. It’s not fair but them’s the breaks.

    • AlbertInTucson

Wasn’t Meyer already caught in a bunch of lies at Florida?

  • Sactowns#1

Does anyone know who will be playing tonight? Trubs? Any starters?

    • John F

      No starters, only 2’s, 3’s and 4’s

      • Sactowns#1

        Well that’s disappointing

        • John F

Probably for the best, given the extra game this year.

  • Malice Halice

My bold prediction for the night is that we will score our first drive n the defense will force a turnover on the opponents first drive. LB unit will be the stars of tonight, considering that’s the biggest comp of guys tryin to make it to da 53.

    • AlbertInTucson

I admire the optimism, even if I can’t subscribe to it.

      • John F

There is no way to predict what is going to happen when the starters aren’t even playing. It should be fun to see some of the new guys …..

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

    May the best laid plans
    Of Da Bears blog
    Multi universal fans
    Begin to materialize tonight

That vaulting officials have set the bar this season at “respectability”
A summit on that peak for me reamains elusive
But from what has been debated in these halls
I suspect the bar may be easily attained
and all will be well in Beardom soon
    May the coming seasonal trials
bring your wildest dreams to fruition
And in the midst of all that
More than your share of wins
    Peace love & gratitude
