DaBearsPod: The Brian Urlacher Edition [AUDIO]

| February 9th, 2018

On this week’s special edition of DaBearsPod:

  • Jeff finishes off the Josh McDaniels/Bears discussion, monologue-style.
  • Former Urlacher teammate Cam Worrell tells us all what made Lach special on and off the field. (There’s a great story here about a banquet Cam attended years after playing with Brian.)
  • A should-be-more-famous clip of Urlacher defending Cutler after the 2010 NFC title game.
  • Reverend Dave sings 54’s praises from eastern Africa.
  • Music from Monty Python & Henry Mancini!

Here’s hoping your first bullet is true, but somehow I doubt we’ve heard the last of it.

  • ButtonShoes

    Flip’s going to Minny? Well….fuck.

  • Irish Sweetness

Lac? Nah. This is the off-season, mate.

    https://topdocumentaryfilms.com/911-decade-deception/

Well, well, well. The doco on the International Hearings on 9/11 in Toronto. Remember that? No, neither do I. How queer. So all the Docs and Profs and architects and demo experts got together a decade after the attacks to review their peers’ research and findings. It was 4 days of presentations. After only 30 minutes into this film, it’s already pretty mindblowing. First 30 minute summary, I’ll number them so we can track :

The buildings were controlled demolitions. They didn’t just looklike controlled demolitions … they were controlled demolitions.

Why wouldn’t this have been discovered during the 9/11 ‘investigation’? Ready for this? Strapped in?
    There was no investigation.

    Let that sink in.

There wasn’t sufficient evidence to warrant an investigation into the use of explosives. The architects are almost belly-laughing at this. They proved conclusively afterwards that explosives were used. All that mention of the thermite we heard about, was definitely there, but the ‘investigation’ wasn’t concerned with it whatsoever. That was ignored. It wasn’t relevant!

It gets better. The commission FALSIFIED data (related to blowing out the freefall theory) and made FALSE-PROPAGANDA films showing how the towers fell – the scientific reason they fell. Absolute bullshit, false science, lies. Just lies. A lot of money was put into making people think that those buildings fell from something other than explosives. But didn’t we already see Larry Silverstein the owner of Building 7 say on camera “that they had to pull it”? Didn’t we see him see that with our eyeballs and hear him say it with our ears? Hes on fucking Youtube saying it.

Your government – in conspiracy with the US Military, quite possibly – went to great lengths to lie to you about the reason those buildings fell.

    Why?

    • BenderMcLugh

      HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

aaand here’s your tin foil hat.

      • Irish Sweetness

Here are your academics and engineers telling you in detail that your government lied.

Now it’s people who continue to disbelieve what science has proven that wear the tin-foil hats.

And they got away with it. Just like JFK. Anyone angry at all? Don’t/won’t have it?

        • BenderMcLugh

you can find people to say about anything. Eye witnesses saw a plane hit the pentagon and the twin towers…..wait, what am I doing? Carry on, Irish, carry on.

          • Scharfinator

Eye witness accounts are difficult to truly corroborate in court. Apparently we bend our memories to fit something.

        • leftcoastdave

Wait a minute. We need to trust our government and trust the FBI, right?

          https://pjmedia.com/rogerlsimon/democrats-headed-world-deserved-hurt/

        • John F

I’m sorry but a small, petty, insignificant loser killed our president from a distance of 250 feet with a mail-order rifle. He then shot a policeman to death with his mail-order pistol and was captured after sneaking into a movie theater.

I wish it didn’t happen, our country was forever changed by his act, but sometimes rather insignificant people can have a large effect (good an bad) on history.

          • BearDown100393

Everyone knows Tommy Lee Jones, Kevin Bacon and Joe Pesci were responsible.

          • Irish Sweetness

So Oswald was firing magic bullets? Ever look at the basic facts? What the Warren Commission suggested defies the laws of physics. The Zapruder film alone shows you where the kill shot came from.

How do you make a skull move back and to the left ….when you shoot somebody from BEHIND? Explain that one to me.

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

A bullet does not have the mass to really have any effect on the movements of a body especially if it is a through shot. What you are seeing is a neuromuscular response.

That is why it is a joke that in movies you see people getting shot and them flying backwards. It just does not happen because of the bullet. However, when you hit the brain you will often see bodies doing really strange things because the nerve center is blown apart.

I have seen this when hunting numerous times. Shoot in the kill zone of deer(lungs, heart) it will drop almost immediately. Shoot the brain and the animal spasms out of control. I’ve shot a deer in the head and the animal jumped straight up. It is an uncontrolled response to having the brain blown apart.

          • KentuckyBearsFan

I’m wondering exactly what part of the brain would have to be shot for a mammal to jump straight up before dying.

Man…PETA would HATE this round of experiments.

“1001…no good. he just fell over.”
            “1002….she hopped. We’re getting closer!”
            “1003….”

          • CanadaBear

The movies screw up a lot of that stuff. A guy can get shot multiple times and survive (if he’s the hero) but if someone is stabbed or shot with an arrow they are dead immediately. My favorite is shooting indoors. For some reason it never affects anyone’s hearing. Also, people shooting Thompson 45’s one-handed. Deadly accurate and no recoil.

      • SC Dave

Actually, I consider it pretty tinfoil to watch WTC 7 come down and conclude it was anything *other than* a controlled demolition.

        • Dis Guy Trublinsky (Johnnywad)

          Why?

          • SC Dave

Because it looks *exactly* like one. And the fact that no one has challenged the assertion of the “conspiracy theorists” that only three high-rises have ever collapsed on their foundations from “fire”, and all three were at the World Trade Center on 11 September 2001.

          • Dis Guy Trublinsky (Johnnywad)

I disagree. Virtually all controlled demolitions of tall buildings progress from the bottom up, not the top down.

          • Dis Guy Trublinsky (Johnnywad)
          • Irish Sweetness

It depends on where the explosives are set. In the doco they looked at 100 demos, and show you a few. They vary – but the WT7 demo was probably the most perfect of all time, it was straight down. Perfect. They’re never perfect, this was precision.

        • Irish Sweetness

          Exactly.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis
      • Irish Sweetness

We’ve got the off-season. I WILL connect this to aliens by the draft.

        • Dis Guy Trublinsky (Johnnywad)

          I can’t wait for this.

    • BearDown100393

      Jay does not caaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Out of respect to your viewpoint, I tried to watch the documentary you posted. Unfortunately, after about 1/2 hour I turned it off. Mainly because the list of “experts”/panelist that they had on it was as follows:

      Religious professor.
      Public administration professor
      English Professor
      Urban and regional Planning professor.
      Anthropology Professor.
Physics Professor – focus on subatomic particles.
      Mathmatics professor.
      Civil engineer
      Architect – main protagonist.
Chemist that specializes in water quality.(UL employee)
      Chemistry professor.

Besides the main guy(architect), who by the way never worked on a building taller than 20 stories, not one of these people are remotely qualified to discuss the intricacies of Structural Engineering.

If you are trying to prove this conspiracy why would you not have someone who is that knows something about Structural Engineering, you know a real Expert.

      • That Guy

“Two people can keep a secret, if one of them is dead.”

This is the problem with conspiracy theories. Forget the illogic. Forget the counter-narratives. Forget the evil that would have to be behind the conspiracy. Focus only on the logistics of pulling off a conspiracy that ended up killing so many people and destroying so much property–and then ask how many people would have to be involved, and how many people would therefore have to keep a secret so big.

And none of those involved a peeped even the tiniest bit. Further, the conspiracy is so airtight that no one even knows who might be involved!

It’s been almost 17 years since 9/11. To bring down those buildings and fake(?) airplanes crashing into them, you’re talking about hundreds of people being involved. Likely, at least several of those people would have died by now. So not a single one of those people has said anything, left any evidence–including notes only to be found after their deaths–in 17 years? So they were all convinced that killing 3,000+ people was worth it… for what end?

That’s what brings the conspiracy theory crashing down for me.

        • Dis Guy Trublinsky (Johnnywad)

          Correct. It’s impossible.

I also enjoy the irony of conspiracy theorist types hanging the whole thing on the Bush administration. He’s widely regarded by the same folks as one of the dimmest bulbs to ever hold the office. You can’t have it both ways.

          • Everyone knew Bush Jr was a pawn for the Neocons and their agenda tho.

Most conspiracy theorists consider most presidents pawns for bankers and industrial military complex.

        • SC Dave

“ask how many people would have to be involved, and how many people would therefore have to keep a secret so big”

Good question. Perhaps a whole shitload. Perhaps far fewer than we might expect. How would we know one way or the other?

How well did the U.S. do with the Manhattan Project? How much of that got out? It certainly was orders of magnitude larger than anything about 9/11.

          • Irish Sweetness

The questions it generates are many, but our initial concerns – for those that had any – have now been vindicated, and those buildings were brought down – not by planes, but by explosives. That is now fact, not conspiracy theory.

Who wired them, that’s all that’s left.

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

            How is it now fact?

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis
          • SC Dave

            So there you go. Lots.

          • AlbertInTucson

When Truman told Stalin we had the bomb, Stalin already knew.

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

There are some really crazy stories about the leaks or carelessness of people in the project. For instance, one guy was carrying highly classified schematics and left them in a train station. Scientist getting drunk and revealing all kinds of info. Several spies were caught, one was a woman that was smuggling plans out in a tissue box.

          • AlbertInTucson

And, after Germany surrendered, many of the scientists on the project advocated against dropping the bomb on Japan.

        • Let me ask you this: do you think FDR knew about Pearl Harbor ahead of time?

          • AlbertInTucson

FDR was a former Secretary of The Navy and he LOVED the Navy.

I don’t believe he would have sacrificed the Pacific Fleet.

Why let the fleet get mauled?

The even if the Japanese attack had been blunted by a more-ready defense,
the attack itself still would have provided the impetus for the USA to go to war against Japan.

      • Appreciate your thoroughness. We, as men, have to check this shit. As the Godfather said, only women and children can be careless.

I think I brought up the philo of Relbilism, and that seems more and more vital as more and more fields, including fucking reality, seem to be specialized.

Even so. We as a citizenry must be alert.

remember remember the 5th of november…

Rome burns, and Irish’s roman ancestors are insisting it was Nero who burned down Rome while he was away porking kids so he can recreate Rome in his image and not the Scientologists, I mean, Christians. …

“The essential English leadership secret does not depend on particular
intelligence. Rather, it depends on a remarkably stupid
thick-headedness. The English follow the principle that when one lies,
one should lie big, and stick to it. They keep up their lies, even at
the risk of looking ridiculous.” – Goebbels

        Conspiracy Documentary vs Jeff’s Podcasts.

        Sounds like Gitmo torture.

  • Irish Sweetness

    Are there only two dissenters?

    Seen ‘Network’?

Okay, you’re all Peter Finch … no wait … I’m Peter Finch … and I’m on stage in an open dressing gown .. and I’m imploring you all to go …. go now to your windows …. open them …. and scream at the top of your lungs ……

    • John F

      Network is an outstanding film.

Made in 1976 and amazingly prescient as to how television and the media would change.

      • Irish Sweetness

I hope they don’t remake it.

Imagine Marky Mark and Amy Shumer ….

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

So I am supposed to know why a instrumental song that I have never heard before is fitting and sad….
Anyone want to help me out?

    • BearDown100393

      Which song?

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

the one at the end of the podcast that Jeff says is both fitting and sad. Did you not listen?

        • BearDown100393

Admittedly I rarely do. Kudos if you make to the end of those podcasts.

    • DaBearsBlog

      Yep. Theme to Brian’s song.

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Thanks, always meant to watch that movie, but everyone says its sad.

        • EnderWiggin

Make sure you watch the 1971 version.

        • John F

It is sad, but it is also an awesome film about the meaning of friendship and true brotherhood.

        • AlbertInTucson

AND it managed to avoid any mention that in Sayers’s comeback year of 1969, the Bears went 1 & 13.

It also gives the impression Halas was still the head coach.

      • Sactowns#1

        I prefer Daniel’s Song.

  • SC Dave

Never seen a Harlon Hill play before… it’s around the 12 minute mark..

Fun fact; Monty Python’s Life of Brian was financed by George Harrison.

    • Irish Sweetness

      Jammy Bastard!

      • CanadaBear

Eric Idle told a frightening, hilarious story about George in the Martin Scorcese doc about the quiet Beatle. George hired a new live-in housekeeper and on her first overnight a crazy guy sneaked into George’s house and stabbed him repeatedly. As the paramedics are taking George out on a stretcher he looks over at housekeeper and says, “All in all, how did you like your first day?” Now that’s a sense of humor!

  • Sactowns#1

People predicting Bears draft a QB this year and I can dig it, as long as it’s 3rd round or later.

    • If Lamar Jackson falls to us in the 2nd, I would take a loooong look at him.

He can also play WR if Trub doesn’t bust.

  • Fuck snow.

    That is all.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

You ever think snow is saying -“Fuck Data. That is all.”

I wish we were getting more snow. This ski season has sucked!

      • I had to shovel my driveway 3x today, which makes 6x in the last 6 days, with two more coming in the next two days.

I need to buy a damn snowblower.

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Isn’t that what kids are for?

          • Yes, but that requires putting up with all the other crap that comes with kids.

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Do what I do and just rent them. I rent them to mow lawn, rake leaves, shovel snow.

          • CanadaBear

Don’t know about you but I had trouble finding kids to do those chores. Lots of kids around but they either don’t care about money or they are getting plenty of it from mom and dad and don’t feel the need to earn any.

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

I have gotten lucky the last decade and found some really motivated kids. 1 kid that mowed my lawn for 3 years straight also had 50+ other lawns he mowed. I talked to him and he said he usually made around $30K a year, and did not file taxes on any of it.

          • CanadaBear

That’s awesome. I’ve always tried to encourage young kids by paying them well. Love the part about Uncle Sam not being in line!

Finally got around to watching the 30 for 30 on the two Bills. Good show. I liked at the end when the filmmaker kept trying to make their split more than it was. Even though both of them said he was making too much of it he persisted. That and the end when Parcells flatly refused to go into the Jets locker room. It’s funny that both of those guys had a better idea when to end the film than the filmmaker.

      (or until weather gets better)

  • leftcoastdave

I wonder which QB da Bears will draft?

  • CaponeBot 1.0

I don’t know what I’m more disgusted and amused at:
    1. The sheer amount of snow I’ve been shoveling and the lack of plowing in my hood
    2. Our WR corps
    3. The conspiracy bullshit about 9/11 and loss of life attributed to our own military
    4. Millennials (story to come later)

    • CanadaBear

Snow definitely sucks moose wang. Same with the Bears WR’s (but that’s fixable). Conspiracy BS, uh, no. I only know a couple of millennials and they are hippies so I don’t think they count.

    • BearDown100393

      5. Pace signing Giraffe.

    • willbest

They plowed my street at about 2pm yesterday which left a nice mountain of gunk snow at the end of my driveway. That was fairly labor intensive but the rest of it wasn’t too bad.

      • CanadaBear

As long as it isn’t frozen/compacted too bad it’s OK. Otherwise, that can be a fucker to move along.

    • Dis Guy Trublinsky (Johnnywad)

1.) You’re almost done shoveling for a couple decades. You have a herd of kids. As soon as they’re big enough. You’re golden.
2.) That WR corps doesn’t exist anymore. It’ll be re-tooled over the next few months.
3.) Irish has no skin in the game. He’s not from here.
      4.) Millennials for the win.

Side note. I pushed back in at the close of business Thursday. Not sure it was the bottom by any stretch. Buts it’s 10%. I’ll take it and forget it for a while.

    • Our military (or the politicians controlling them) lies about killing our own all the time.

Gulf of Tonkin comes to mind.

Shoot, didn’t they even lie to Pat Tillman’s family about how he was killed originally?

Not saying 9/11 was an inside job, but military has plenty of black ops stuff to get us into wars.

Americans by an large don’t like going to war. Before Pearl Harbor, I think only like 15% of Americans wanted to go to war.

So it’s not inconceivable that the military industrial complex and its political puppets create “false flags” in order to get the US into wars.

Remember when Colin Powell got up there and did a presentation about WMDs?

Everyone thought, “Hey, he’s got integrity. He’s not gonna lie”

Invaded Iraq. Completely destablized the region. Arguably created more terrorists. 1,000s of am soldiers died (not to mention about 500,000 Iraqis – If Christians care about such things)

      No WMDs.

      Meanwhile…

“The first name that comes to everyone’s mind here is Halliburton. According to MSN Money, Halliburton’s KBR, Inc. division bilked government agencies to the tune of $17.2 billion in Iraq war-related revenue from 2003-2006 alone. This is estimated to comprise a whopping one-fifth of KBR’s total revenue for the 2006 fiscal year. The massive payoff is said to have financed the construction and maintenance of military bases, oil field repairs, and various infrastructure rebuilding projects across the war-torn nation. This is just the latest in a long string of military/KBR wartime partnerships, thanks in no small part to Dick Cheney’s former role with the parent company.”

“MedCure sells or leases about 10,000 body parts from U.S. donors annually, shipping about 20 percent of them overseas, internal corporate and manifest records show. “

  • CanadaBear

Gotta admit I really liked hearing Cam W. talk about how nice #54 was to his 2 buddies. Everything I’ve ever read or heard about him as a teammate was tremendous. He said really stupid shit to the media a few times and when he was in his grunting stage with the media, that wasn’t a great look. All in all, pretty good in the social media age.

Of course, he had/has the crapola with the kid’s mom but that’s looks like it’s more about her than anything going by prior behavior. Can’t imagine anyone holding a grudge over him running around with Jenny McCarthy and Paris Hilton.

Maybe pitting half the team against the new QB was an unnecessary move just because he liked Orton??

      • CanadaBear

FFS Cutler couldn’t wrestle the offense away from Olin.

    Bush league move by MIN.

    http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/22393490/kevin-stefanski-minnesota-vikings-not-allowed-interview-new-york-giants

Btw, Stefanski was my darkhorse candidate for our HC opening. But I don’t think Pace or any other GM’s interviewed him. Too green, I assume.

    • Eagles did the same with Flip, and they won a SB with Foles.

      Copycat league.

      • BerwynBomber

Flip left. He got the OC job with MIN.

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Eagles blocked him last year, not this year.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

I really don’t like that rule. I think it is BS that a team can block a move that is obviously a promotion.

      • Dis Guy Trublinsky (Johnnywad)

I must not understand the rule. I thought they had to allow the interview if the result would be a promotion.

        • It used to be that way. But they changed it to only if a coordinator becomes an HC.

          • Dis Guy Trublinsky (Johnnywad)

Well that sucks. Shitty way for the Vikes to do business.

      • Yeah, I don’t like it either. A worker should be able to take a promotion.
If Flip became an OC last yr, maybe this yr he becomes HC.

I think they did it because teams began creating bogus titles like “ass hc” in order to poach coordinators.

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Yep, but there is a simple fix. Just define the hierarchy. But since it is such a simple fix the NFL will not do it.

    • BearDown100393

Good. This makes Zimmer look bad and dilutes the future coaching pool for Minnesota.

      I hate the Vikings.

    • AlbertInTucson

      VERY “Bush League”.

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

So Frank Reich could end up as Indy’s HC, Flip is in Minn. Next year we could find out if it is Pederson that was the true offensive mastermind.

    • I’m curious about that too. Then again, next season, we’re going to find out how good Nagy is without Reid.

  • leftcoastdave

By: Bryan Perez: “Bears are going to break the bank on wide receivers in free agency this March, and one player who deserves a hefty payday is Miami’s Jarvis
    Landry.”

    I hope not.

I’d rather see the money spent on D fense with multiple WR targets acquired in FA such as Albert Wilson, who Nagy knows very well, and some fast guy in later rounds to stretch the field.

    • I’m hoping for another pass rusher, but don’t know if any good ones will be available in FA.

DeMarcus Lawrence seems to be the top one, but don’t think he’ll hit the market (he also plays in a 4-3)

Wonder how Kony Ealy would be on a prove it contract closer to home? He was drafted in the second from MO and been a bit of an under performer with the Jets this year.

        • Yeah, and I still remember his SB game. Dude was a force.

Sheldon Richardson would also be an upgrade.

Ju”wan James could be an option at OT if we’re upgrading over Massie. Pugh at OG if Sitton or Long is not in Pace’s long term plan.

Malcom Butler if we can’t resign Prince and Fuller (and might be preferable over Prince anyways who has a spotty INJ history)

          • leftcoastdave

I like paying for a CB much more than a WR. And I like the idea of drafting what is high priced on FA. You only need, and you really need, two good CBs. But you put three, four or five targets out there on any given play. You need two good CBs on every play. You get to have multiple targets out there every play. Why overpay, or even pay up to top scale for one of many?
Draft a good CB. Draft another good prospect at QB ie., a qb who played a wide open offense calling plays at the line like Nic Shimonek out of Texas Tech? (Hell, pick BPA qb at 8 if you can’t trade down and see who rises for him?) Next think of LBs, both outside and inside. If we can get an impact dude for the middle, take him. Like CB, I think we need to pay for two prospects on prove it deals in FA. You need men there, not the top draft pick.

    • Dis Guy Trublinsky (Johnnywad)

We NEED receivers. I don’t care where they come from. But they better show up. You can’t put this much stock in Trubisky and then surround him with JAGS. Been there. Done that. Doesn’t work. The defense is sound and will get more help. But that WR group better be the tip of the priority pyramid.

      • leftcoastdave

Timing is everything. This year Biscuit will be leading an offense with multiple looks and people in motion gaming the D before the snap. He will have options to look at and multiple targets to hit.
He will have targets and I bet it will not include one signing which will put too much money in one pot.

        • Dis Guy Trublinsky (Johnnywad)

Looks good in black and white. But in order for that to work, you need professional receivers. Guys that, at some point, can separate, and then catch. The Bears had nobody on the field doing that last year with any consistency at all.

I don’t care what offense they run. They need talent enough to run it. They don’t currently have it.

  • leftcoastdave

This dude could be a great prospect to train up:

    Nic Shimonek, QB, Texas Tech

    Height: 6-3. Weight: 225.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.81.
    Projected Round (2018): 5-7.
