• willbest

    Did we win yet?

    • SC Dave

      Almost

  • John F

Do we really deserve the Cedric Benson taunt??

    • willbest

Didn’t you read the last post? Jeff is mad at us because he has to watch this game.

  • Cubsnlinux

Tonight’s game is not on Game Pass? NFL not advertising Bears @ Bengals.. not sure why.

  • willbest

“I was just thinking, “Man, why don’t the Pats make Tom Brady prove himself?”

Tom Brady is 237 years old with 54 Super Bowl victory’s and 37 MVP and 16 all-pros.

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

    My favorite former Bear!

    • SC Dave

      Go figure

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

He was the last decent RB we had.

  • Sactowns#1

Who will score the first TD for the beloved tonight? I am going to go with Cunningham.

    • SC Dave

      Miller

      • leftcoastdave

        Shaheen.

        • Sactowns#1

          tic toc gents.

        • Johnnywad

          Jackson

          • SC Dave

Ooooh…. like it. You’re thinking the Bengals win the toss?

          • Johnnywad

Nah. I was thinking the offense in it’s first outing without Howard and Robinson would look pretty rough. I was right.

          • John F

I’m starting to wonder if Robinson will start the season on IR

          • Johnnywad

            Why? He’s been practicing.

          • John F

Practicing off and on, not full speed, not full go …….

          • Johnnywad

Son of a Bitch. I waffled between Jackson and Fuller. Stupid.

          • Sactowns#1

Don’t worry. There was no grand prize.

          • Johnnywad

Good. I was fretting. But nobody said Fuller. So I was hoping for a carry over to the next preseason game.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

who ever is returning the kick

    • Irish Sweetness

I’ve got Fuller on a 47 yard interception return … something like that.

  • leftcoastdave

    Anybody have a link?

  • JAB

Kevin white better catch those passes

    • DBears

      I’ve been holding out hope……. but….. but….. bust!

      • JAB

If he busts, Pace better hope Floyd finally lives up to expectations and Trubisky takes a step forward and Roquan finally signs and produces, otherwise he’s well behind the curve for first round picks.

        • SC Dave

If White busts, he’s behind the curve already.

          • JAB

First round picks don’t live up to expectations or bust quite a bit, but not having any first rounders show the ability to be franchise changing players in 4 drafts is a little alarming. I know it’s still early for trubisky and roquan still, but white and Floyd have been disappointing to this point.

          • Shhhh. Emperor isn’t naked!

  • leftcoastdave

    First drop by White.

  • JAB

Slow getting plays in. It’s a good time to get that worked out

    • Sactowns#1

Yeah. Nagy needs the PS practice as much as anyone.

      • JAB

Agree 100%. He didn’t call in plays until later last season. It’ll be interesting how he calls in plays and handles the rest of the head coaching duties.

      • SC Dave

People forget about that. It’s so true. It’s a new offense for EVERYONE.

  • EnderWiggin

    3rd and 23… Flashbacks.

    • evantonio

Of the 3rd and 22 against the giants where they ran a Thomas Jones draw for a first down?

      • EnderWiggin

Man, I wish. Thanks for the good memory, though.

  • leftcoastdave

Kush gives up a sack. Whitehair with a hold. Not a good start for the O line.

  • TomC

    This is going very well.

    • EnderWiggin

Its all about Green Bay week 1.

      • Irish Sweetness

        Win that, screw the rest.

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

I’ve seen enough, this season is shot. We won’t win a game.

    • SC Dave

      16-0

      • Irish Sweetness

        Season. Of. Destiny.

        Like every year!

  • DBears

offense looks pathetic and defense can’t cover or tackle. I know there is no game planning in pre-season…. but when multiple guys miss tackles, Trubisky is under constant pressure and our D can’t create any pressure….. another 4 or 5 win season in the making

    • JAB

It’s pre season and early, but Cincinnati’s vanilla looks better than ours. They must be running the vanilla with a chocolate twist.

      • DBears

are you kidding…. there’s looks like vanilla with syrup and sprinkles…… ours looks like a lump of shit being sold as ice cream

I think Trubisky has been hit more times than total number of yards for the offense.

Just checked….. -1 total yards… 1 sack but been hit three other times

        • JAB

Or those little dot things that people try to sell as ice cream, but really it’s just lightly flavored Styrofoam

          • DBears

Whatever it is…. not appetizing, not edible

        • SC Dave
    • ButtonShoes

I don’t know why people expected otherwise. There a lot of new and green players here. Along with a brand new coach and system to go with it. There are going to be big issues to iron out.

People see teams built on paper and instantly expect the best case scenario. They never allow for the fact that those players are people and might not play up to their potential, either now or ever.

Anyway, it’s a preseason game. Hopefully it’s no harbinger of things to come.

      • John F

Someone has obviously stolen ButtonShoes password ………

        • ButtonShoes

Hey, I’m as pessimistic as ever. I don’t want the team to be bad. I just think the odds lean towards them being that way.

  • TomC

Wims is in now! Game on!

  • EnderWiggin

Jeez. Take him out already. That could have been devastating.

  • TomC

Ha! Turf monster gift to Fuller. Good on him for taking it to the house.

  • DBears

HA…. its the 2010 Bears…… Defense contributes more to offense than offense does!

  • Johnnywad

    2005 Bears

  • Johnnywad

    Somebody has a new move.

Floyd having little trouble getting into the Bengals backfield.

  • JAB

Marcus Cooper looks to be in mid season form

    • DBears

      best player for cincy!

Why isnt Toliver out there?!?!? we all know Cooper sucks

      • JAB

I’m sure he will be after that display by Cooper. He got beat like he was the rookie. He’ll be cut

  • John F

#1 offense sucks, #1 defense sucks ….. other than that we are golden this year ……

  • DBears

Hey….. only thing that would make the Bears look anymore impotent is to have Trubisky come on back out and throw a pick on 3rd and 15.

  • leftcoastdave

John Jenkins also sucking on the D line.

Wonder where Cooper will be in September?

    • JAB

Sitting at home considering retirement after he was just targeted like a rookie in pre season.

  • TomC

How many non-penalty first downs did that 1st-string offense get?

At least no one got (obviously) injured.

    • beninnorcal

You mean after all the game planning we did, right?

      • TomC

Neither team game-planned. Are you saying our coaching staff is so much better than the rest of the league that they will transcend poor talent?

To clarify: I don’t think this small sample of data says we have no talent. But to say it is absolutely meaningless because there was no game-planning doesn’t make sense.

        • beninnorcal

I would say it’s absolutley meaningless, yes.

          • TomC

I would say a late-season game between two teams way out of the playoffs, one of which had quit on their coach, is equally meaningless.

          • beninnorcal

And yet, that coach that they quit on is still their coach. Bold prediction: regular season Bears will be better than regular season Bengals. But neither makes the playoffs, so no one cares.

        • beninnorcal

Last year, when both teams game planned, we made Dalton look like he belongs in the CFL, does that make sense? We’ve also improved our roster since then. Settle down

  • EnderWiggin

Not even a quarter in and already the negative-Nancy’s are coming out. We are not going to do shit until week 1 @ GB.
I actually think we look OK – Goldman looks good, Burton looks like he can block, Acho looks OK…
Just take it one play at a time. The score DOESN’T mean jack.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Not true, the PS games are indicative of how our season will go.

    • DBears

The defensive line had zero push, no QB pressure??!?!

Trubisky held the ball way too long….. offensive line couldnt give him a clean pocket…… what game were you watching?

Basic things you would expect without a “game plan”

They missed two tackles on Mixon for the first TD….. how is that good?

      • John F

Too much off season Kool Aid ……..

    • SC Dave

Not watching, but +1 on the sentiment

    • Irish Sweetness

We’ll kick Green Bay’s ass, Ender. I guaranteed it already so there’s nothing to worry about ….

  • John F

Trubisky pulled after that stellar effort …….

    • EnderWiggin

He played longer than anyone thought he would.

    • beninnorcal

      It’s preseason, settle down, Nancy

      • John F

You’re right, all we need is a little scheming and some good ‘ole game plannin’ and we’ll be alright.

        • beninnorcal

Yeah, you’re right, those things aren’t important at all. We don’t need coaches, they could just roll like this all season. Maybe you should bee the coach.

          • Johnnywad

            Hahahaha!!!

            Or starters.

Can you imagine if in week two, Howard, Robinson, Roquan, and Cohen were all injured? We’d pack up camp and call it a year.

          • John F

Robinson is already injured, Roq will end up injured when he tries to play at full speed with no training camp

          • Irish Sweetness

            We have to keep Wims.

      • JAB

I do agree with that. It was ugly though. Hopefully Robinson and Gabriel will be on when the season starts. Watching Kevin white drop a pass right into his hands gives me the chills thinking he could actually play this year.

        • Johnnywad

No Howard either. First outing should be expected to be rough

          • JAB

You’re right, but with the starting line all in they should have had more positive plays with the first team. That being said, playing without what should be quality receivers in Robinson and Gabriel, plus Howard there has to be room for improvement.

          • Johnnywad

Don’t discount the difficulty of running a new offense live for the first time.

I was encouraged just to simply see Trubisky kill a play at the line and switch to plan B.

          • JAB

Agreed. I think the most frustrating thing about watching pre season is that teams don’t even try to run most of the plays to use in an actual game. I understand not running trick plays that can be scouted, but a good play has multiple options and how do you get ready for a season not running those to perfection? Especially a team running a new offense.

  • beninnorcal

Everyone crying about a preseason game against the Bengals can go back watch last years regular season game in which we BEAT them. The Bengals don’t scare me. You guys are funny.

  • ButtonShoes

Why are people acting like Fuller getting an interception here is meaningful? I go on Twitter and all these meatheads are losing their minds over Fuller getting an interception off Dalton in a preseason game. If Cincy was playing serious, half our players would be out with season-ending injuries.

  • John F

At least we have Daniels, someone who knows how to run the offense …….

    • beninnorcal

Maybe he should start in the regular season, huh, John, I bet that would be good, right?

  • Sactowns#1

    Shaheen looking good

    • Johnnywad

He looks pretty damn smooth doesn’t he?

    • SC Dave

One rather ugly missed block early on a 3rd and long WR screen to Miller, but other than that looked pretty good. And yes, looked much more comfortable running his routes than last year.

  • EnderWiggin

First time I’ve seen a ref start with the words “I’m sorry”.

  • John F

    Fumble …. hilarious …….

    • Johnnywad

      By fumble you mean touchdown?

      • John F

My stream must be slow ……

        • Johnnywad

          They make pills for that.

  • Sactowns#1

We’ve got some depth at o-line. This is shaping up nicely.

  • John F

Only the Bears could have backups better than their starters ……..

  • TomC

    OMG, this helmet rule…

    • Johnnywad

      Wow. Fuck that rule.

      • EnderWiggin

He did the same thing that the runner was doing.. Total BS call.

        • Johnnywad

He basically turtled and fell down. That was atrocious.

  • John F

    Bears special teams snoozing …..

    • EnderWiggin

Cincy did us a favor pulling that in the preseason. Now we’ll be more ready week 1… See how that works?

      • John F

You haven’t watched the Bears for very long, have you?

        • EnderWiggin

This is my first season as a Bears fan.

    • Johnnywad

Yeah. They missed a fake punt in the preseason.

I wonder if that’s even happened before. Who the hell runs a fake punt in preseason?

      • John F

Why not, those guys are gonna get their asses chewed next film study ………

        • Johnnywad

Because most teams don’t like to put plays like that on video prior to the season starting.

The Bengals are legit trying to win this game. Why else fake a punt?

          • John F

That was a pretty basic fake, maybe they wanted some bonus offensive snaps?

  • beninnorcal

Fake punt in preseason, keepin’ it classy in Cincy.

    • SC Dave

Shit, just having a little fun.

  • JAB

Roquan needs to sign now. Yes, he’s a rookie, but he’ll look much better out there than kwiatkowski who can’t drop back in coverage to save his life. It’ll also bee nice to see trevathan and especially prince over Marcus Cooper.

    • Johnnywad

      Cooper sucks.

He’s one of Pace’s bigger mistakes. Right behind Glennon and Barth.

      • JAB

Truth. At least the glennon mistake was only one season.

  • EnderWiggin

Daniel(s) looks way better than he did last week.

    • leftcoastdave

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think Daniels played last week. But yea, at C he is looking good.

      • SC Dave

Daniels played last week, and looked really bad.

  • leftcoastdave

Wimms with excellent hands, but ‘gator arms.

  • TomC

Nothin’ like consecutive penalties on special teams plays to make this game go by even faster.

  • EnderWiggin

I think I am going to let you gents evaluate the second half (well, some of you). I’m going to go surf fishing.

    • Johnnywad

Does surf fishing work? I’ve tried a couple times on vacation and never had any luck.

      • EnderWiggin

Yeah, it works. You can catch sand sharks, redfish, whiting, and croakers year round. Plus, there is always something that is ‘seasonal’ that you can target at all different times of the year.

  • beninnorcal

Sac, I saw on the last thread that you had asked me how much the streaming package is, it’s about 3 bills.

    • BenderMcLugh

      NFL channel ove?

      • BenderMcLugh

        One. Wow nice job airport

        • BenderMcLugh

          lol autocorrect corrected

  • Is Hall the only one on defense?

  • Edebali-wood in the house

    • BenderMcLugh

      FINALLY

  • Irish Sweetness

    Football is back.

    • EnderWiggin

      Finally, somebody ‘gets it’.

  • Irish Sweetness
  • Irish Sweetness

Dude, it’s half-time?? What happened of interest? Shaheen look okay?

Time to read the thread I guess …

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

      I took a dump.

      • Irish Sweetness

Looks like the offense did too.

        • Johnnywad

          Not much to say.

Shaheen looks alright. But who knows who he’s playing against.

Daniels looks to be the goods as billed.

Fuller picked off a fairly easy one.

Floyd has a nice new swim move that seemed to be working.

          • Irish Sweetness

            (fistbump)

      • Johnnywad

        How’d it go?

        • Irish Sweetness

Yeah, don’t leave us hangin’ ….

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Very well, easy clean up. I would give it a solid 8 out of 10

  • ButtonShoes

    This game…woof. Not good.

  • Nall in. We’re winning!

Cowerd looks good out there. Stonewalling defenders.

  • Pats just converted their first 1st down.

    They must SUUUCCCK

  • 3rd and 1.

    Wheel route, of course

  • Irish Sweetness

A-Rob, Kev, Gabriel, Gentry, Wims, Bellamy, Miller …. and Marlon Brown (6’5)!

Who do we keep? If we keep Wims then we have to lose Gentry and Bellamy.

    • Tell you what, Ayers continues to look steady. And he returns.

      • Johnnywad

Gentry has no shot. Wims is a reach.

Who the hell is Marlon Brown?

        • John F

          Camp body

        • Irish Sweetness

          6’5.

          • Johnnywad

Takes a bit more than tall.

    • SC Dave

A_Rob, Gabriel, Miller, Bellamy. Of the rest, I’d say Wims and Ayers as of this moment.

  • #49, Fits? Nice screen recognition. Torpedoed the play right away on 3rd and long.

  • John F

    84 cut tomorrow

  • Irish Sweetness

    Ryan Nall as our FB?

  • Bray missed a WIDE open Braukner in the endzone.

    I could’ve made that throw.

  • John F

When your #2’s and #3’s look better than your starters, you have a problem

    • Johnnywad

      LOL. You crack me up.

      • John F

        You watched the game, right?

        • Johnnywad

First quarter and a half on in the background while I was working.

So is Pace a genius for getting excellent 2s and 3s?

          • John F

Bengals have a new offensive and defensive system and our starters got smoked, not good

          • Johnnywad

Oh. I thought Marvin Lewis was still the coach. Just like he’s been for 15 years. Oh wait, he is.

The Bears offense played two series without a shitload of starters.

I don’t think any reasonable person can say either way what we have here.

          • leftcoastdave

The Bengals played their 1’s and 2’s much more than Da Bears. And Da Bears bottom of the roster looked pretty good.

  • John F

    14! North and south please

  • John F

    14 is a keeper

  • Tell you what, maybe we should dump Gabriel and Fowler and keep Ayers.

He was on the Steelers and Pats, so they saw something in him, and he continues to look good.

    • John F

Bears have money invested in Gabriel, right?

      • Yeah. I doubt Pace will swallow his pride and cut him.

Would like to see Ayers get a series with the 1st team before PS is done.

He can be dangerous with YAC cuz of his return skills.

        • Johnnywad

So you want Pace to swallow his pride after part of one preseason game and cut Gabriel? Did Gabriel even play?

          • IF Ayers outplays Gabriel, then he should cut Gabriel and keep Ayers regardless of contract.

            Don’t need another Sims

Ayers should def be kept over Fowler in my book.

          • Johnnywad

            Fowler can go. He sucks.

But why would you cut Gabriel? You can keep them both. And how bout we see Gabriel play some football in the offense, with a full complement of starters, and a little time to season the new scheme, before we start cutting him, for a guy that just had two catches against backups in preseason game one?

          • Ayers had 5 catches in the first game.
            Against back-ups, but still.

He also scored easily on the jet sweep. Just smoked the defender to the sideline.

Those jet sweeps are gonna be designed for Gabriel and Fowler, but if Ayers runs em better…

Still waaaay too early, but Ayer’s has looked solid to me. Most consistent WR out there in two games.

(He also came up with a clutch catch towards the end of the game with a CB draped all over him. Again, just keeps putting down good film little by little)

    • Irish Sweetness

      Fowler’s gone.

  • John F

Aaaaaaaaaand the backups blow it ……

    • Malice Halice

Yea dey shit the bed. But it seems that nobody wanted to tackle

  • John F

Ladies and Gentlemen – Your 2018 Chicago Bears !!!!!

    • Johnnywad

For another week or two anyway.

      • John F

Has a team ever gone 0-5 in the preseason? We have that to look forward to!

  • Malice Halice

Mixon made our D look goofy. It’s preseason n I kinda get da impression guys ain’t tryin to be to physical on D for health purposes. Well that’s what I’m gonna tell myself.

    • Missed tackles by our D all around.

      • Malice Halice

Yea that’s what I’m saying, it seem like it was a consensus for em to be careful n not too aggressive. But half if not majority was open field misses.

  • Irish Sweetness

I like Tyler Bray. That rifle down the middle to Brown was insane.

    • Malice Halice

Yes it was, his receivers aka TE’s let dropped da ball

    • leftcoastdave

I loved this game. Shaheen looked great, Cooper looked like he will next be on the unemployment line. Lots of good stuff to watch. Daniels was great (from what I saw) at C, Kush and Massie not so great. All good to see in PS.

      • SC Dave

I disagree that Daniels looked great. Bray was better IMO, and actually looked like a viable backup.

  • Irish Sweetness

    DaBearsBlog
    @dabearsblog
These games are so stupid. So, so stupid.

I never get this Jefe. When do they practice playing football? They can’t hit each other up in practice.
They can’t simulate football in practice. How are they supposed to evaluate and develop their players if there’s no pre-season?

    • Johnnywad

This topic seems a bit like politics. There appears to be no middle ground.

Preseason games are definitely valuable in my opinion. But I’d stop short of saying they’re a barometer for the upcoming season. Because that would be stupid.

  • Johnnywad

I’m sipping bourbon and watching Edmonton vs BC in a CFL defensive struggle. And by defensive struggle, I mean high school game. Javon Wims would be the MVP of the CFL.

Side note: Edmonton stole Green Bay’s uniforms and stuck a different logo on the helmet. Their coach looks like he’s selling lawn fertilizer.

  • Hook and ladder! Deum. That was an exciting game even though it was “fake” news

Thought for a split second Nall was gonna run it in at the end, then I remembered he is white!

    • Johnnywad

Checked the stats cuz I gave up watching. Looks like he had a 65 yard run. Pretty fly for a white guy.

      • my friend was laughing at me cuz I was singing the TMNT song “go white boy go white boy go!” when Nall was making that big run.

Of course, a black guy caught him from behind eventually, but yeah, still pretty fly…

      • SC Dave

        69. A better number.

How was Nall allowed to advance a fumble?

“If any player fumbles after the two-minute warning in a half, only the fumbling player is permitted to recover and/or advance the ball. If recovered by any other offensive player, the ball is dead at the spot of the fumble unless it is recovered behind the spot of the fumble.”

    Gentry fumbled, right?

    • Because preseason.

It was a backward pitch, right – is that technically a fumble?

    • Read more carefully. What’s that last phrase?

“unless it is recovered behind the spot of the fumble.”

      • Irish Sweetness

Ah, I couldn’t see the play. Stream froze. NFL.COM called it a fumble.

        • The rule is intended to prevent you fumbling forward on 3rd/4th down to try and get the 1st. Anything backwards is fair game.

          • AlbertInTucson

            That’s the Dave Casper rule.

          • You know how I know you’re old?

I kid, I kid. But that’s just always been the rule as long as I can remember.

          • AlbertInTucson

You KNOW I make no secret of my “oldness”, Professor. We used to get a LOT of Raiders and Chargers games in the afternoon on WMAQ. I loved watching Lance Alworth and Gary Garrison take throws from John Hadl.

That play is known as “The Holy Roller”. You can see it should have been ruled “incomplete” because Ken Stabler actually flips the ball forward as he was being sacked…

Even the legal stream on one of those London games was crap.

  • leftcoastdave

I’m liking what I saw. Cooper is cut. Nall came out and put his game on. Brey became more acceptable as the backup QB.
    Lots of stuff to like.

    • You and I were apparently watching different games.

Nall isn’t an NFL RB. He takes too long to accelerate. Unless he has a wide open field to get up to speed (like on that 69 yard run), he’s useless.

Brey is not an NFL QB. He won’t make the roster, and will sit on the street if the Bears need to sign him in case of an injury to one of their top 2 QBs.

      • Irish Sweetness

Bray is okay. He made a professional throw down the seam that maybe 7 guys in the NFL can make. 27 passes and no picks? He’s been fine. I’d take him over Chase

        • Did you see him miss a WIIIIDE open TD?

          Needs to be more consistent.

          • SC Dave

It’s preseason. He certainly looked better tonight than Trubisky – of that there can be zero doubt.

        • Johnnywad

Irish, you didn’t just say that Bray made a throw that maybe 7 guys in the NFL can make did you?

I’m packing a bag. I feel like you’ve fallen off the wagon.

      • leftcoastdave

Two things we both saw were Daniels being the #1 C and Cooper being exposed and ready for his street clothes and walking shoes.

        • we already knew Cooper sucked and Timu was too slow to play in space. Last night didn’t tell us that for the first time.

Daniels looked really good against the 2s, which means I’m ready to see him against the 1s. Same thing I said about Wims last week (good vs. 3s/4s, let’s see him vs. 2s). Wims played against 2s this week and looked a lot quieter, so there’s that.

    • AlbertInTucson

      First team offense.

      8 plays for -1 yard.

      Not much to like there.

      • They need to get the interior OL figured out. IMO Daniels is the best C on the roster, which moves Whitehair to LG and Kush to 2nd string. Main problems tonight with 1st string came from Kush on the 1st drive and Watford, who was in for Long on the 2nd drive.

Get that shit sorted in the next week or two so they can build cohesion.

Also interesting that Morgan played 3rd string G tonight, demoted in favor of Will Pericak. I don’t think Morgan makes the roster.

        • I saw Morgan get bull-rushed. A man his size shouldn’t get bull-rushed by 3rd string DTs.

          • he apparently got demoted based on last week, when he had 2-3 bad whiffs on the first drive.

    • Irish Sweetness

Loved Bray. I still like Timu as depth, not quite sure why there’s no love there, but when he’s moving toward the LOS he looks good.

      • Timu can’t cover fo shite! That’s why no love.

        He’s another Bostic.

        • Johnnywad

But he’s got that sick pony tail and interesting sounding name.

  • Big preseason W for the Bears. Nobody got hurt. 2-0 so far on that front, and that’s all that matters.

    On to the next week.

    • Don’t wanna jinx anything, but it looked like Ayers pulled up at the end of the game.

But none of the stars got hurt, so big plus there.

      • Ayers is a likely PS guy. 7th WR on the roster at best. Injury there doesn’t really bother me.

  • For some preseason context:

Bears’ leading passer, rusher, receiver in last 5 preseasons:
    2017: Trubisky, Cohen, Deonte Thompson
    2016: Hoyer, Howard, Meredith
    2015: Clausen, Langford, Bennett
    2014: Cutler, Carey, Bellamy
    2013: Cutler, Ford, Marquess Wilson

NFL Leaders in passing, rushing, receiving last 5 preseasons

2017: Matt Sims, Corey Grant, DeDe Westbrook
2016: Matt Barkley, Mack Brown, Robby Anderson
    2015: L. Jones, Z. Zenner, R. Ross
    2014: Z. Mettenberger, L. Taliaferro, A. Hurns
    2013: P. Devlin, K. Robinson, S. Williams

eye opening to say the least

    • Johnnywad

      Who?

    • SC Dave

Trubisky has a ways to go to catch up this season.

  • Irish Sweetness

Any of you up for a Saturday Morning draft?

    • AlbertInTucson

Hoping my local league can draft Labor Day.

Sadly, we are looking to replace a member who passed away last season.

That’s our 3rd loss to the grim reaper in 3 years.

      We are not amused.

    • SC Dave

Probably. Looking, probably, at a good porter. Or breakfast stout.

  • Some observations

    Shaheen looked fluid.
If Nall has space, he can run. If the blocking is not there, he’s getting nothing.
    Fowler needs to go
    Cooper needs to go
Parkey wide right on a 52 yarder
Think Ayers had a nice all around game. That jet sweep for a TD was a beauty
Did Wimms even play? He had a drop, I think, which is the book on him
Bray loves throwing to TEs and the middle underneath
Pass rush was up and down
    Waaay too many missed tackles
Cowerd looked solid at RT. He’s a bit sloppy but gets the job done.

As always, Bears find way to lose. I know it’s only PS, but they need to win to build confidence and momentum.

    • AlbertInTucson

Bengals PBP said Parkey was short, too.

      • AlbertInTucson

I did not see the game.

Caught most of the 4th after dinner on Sirius.

Guess I will record the NFL Net Replay on Saturday and skim thru it.

    • BenderMcLugh

Disagree on needing to win for a confidence boost. This coaching staff and the new system is a confidence boost in and of itself.

      #didn’t watch it

      • The Bears were trying to win.
With about 4 mins left, they pinned the Bengals on the 10.

The Bengals then proceeded to drive the length of the field and score a TD against our lauded defensive wizard Fangio.

Not exactly a way to build confidence for a team that has drafted top 10 the past 3 years.

        • They moved down the field by exploiting a mismatch involving John Franklin, a CB people have only heard if because he was the star of some reality show about junior college football. It would probably take 6 CBs getting hurt for Franklin to see the field in the regular season and even then they’d probably bring a veteran in off the street first.

Fangio was playing base defense because it’s the preseason. Vanilla coverage scheme’s every play. They want to see how these guys handle basic matchups. Obviously Franklin didn’t handle it well.

          Chill.

    • Johnnywad

Cooper sucks. Bad. Worse than I thought.

    • SC Dave

Bray looked way better than Trubisky.

      • willbest

        THE PRESEASON IS MEANINGLESS

  • SC Dave

Wow… and you thought Fox was predictable.

Try Bray and Nall on the field.

    • SC Dave

Then Nall stands up per rules, and gets fouled (yes, I’m watching delayed).

Then a perfect ball by Bray… to the defender.

  • BenderMcLugh

Missed the game, Brian’s & Giants we’re in. Tyrod 9-9, as per usual. Baker Mayfield is Brees–S.Young love child in talent.

    How’d Trubs look?

    • SC Dave

      Bray was better.

    • Like he’s thinking, not playing. His only real pass that wasn’t a gimme was a deep overthrow to White. Then two dumpoffs, a White drop (called off due to roughing he passer), and one where he got hit from behind as he threw.

To me he looked slow going through progressions. Again, thinking and not playing. Daniel looks more comfortable in the offense (as he should, it’s been years for him).

Whole starting O looked out of sync. A bad snap, OL couldn’t hold up, had to burn a TO on first drive because a play wasn’t there in time. Even on 2nd string there was a play hat was supposed to be a bubble screen to Miller, but Miller didn’t flare for it and Daniel had to improvise.

  • BenderMcLugh

    Kyle pick 6. Eggggsellent

  • BenderMcLugh

Hey Irish, wanna make a dollar bet Baker Mayfield wind ROY over Saquon? 50 cent?

  • SC Dave

    Still don’t have a kicker.

    • Talk from camp has been that Parkey hasn’t missed when O’Donnell is holding for him and consistently oushesnit right when it’s the rookie P holding.

That one was the rookie P holding, and he pushed it right. Hold looked fine to me, but who knows.

One way or another, Parkeys contract dictates he’s the kicker for at least two years. And he has a solid track record. I’m not worried.

      • SC Dave

Ahhh… well that is somewhat comforting.

I found myself saying that a lot during the NFL season the last couple years. Product is going to shit.

I wonder if Smith can bank the missed first week of the season and apply it to a future suspension.
