Welcome to Bourbonnais!

Here’s the deal. We’re not going to have a “camp notes” post up on the site every day.  Every paid beat writer on the gig – and there are plenty – will be doing that. But I’ll be running a commentary from the Twitter feed, @DaBearsBlog (also available on the right rail). The official beat writers of DBB – and must follows on Twitter – are Adam Jahns (@AdamJahns) and Adam Hoge (@AdamHoge). Let those gents be your guides.

I was just gonna ask if the photo was of Jeff’s GF.

That looks like Irish grass anyway ….

        Jeff is a Furry?

      No.

Seeing this pic reminded me of a really funny stand up show on Netflix. If you haven’t seen it, I guarantee there are parts that will make you laugh hysterically. If you’ve seen it, the reference to the above pic will make you smile.

    • Malice Halice

Man that guy was HILARIOUS! Natural comic for sure, he was laughing at himself so a lot during the bit.

      • CanadaBear

        That Bear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ButtonShoes

Trevathan, McManis, and Lynch all have hamstring issues. I thought the team was going into camp 100% healthy? Oh and is Roquan still holding out?

    • Johnnywad

      Well there goes the season…….

      • ButtonShoes

I hope the hamstring issues are due to the heat or something like that.

        • John F

It’s the “C” on the side of the helmet, it attracts injury-prone players (especially first rounders)…….

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Oh no what ever are we to do.

      • ButtonShoes

It’s never too early to worry about injury issues with this team. Every little thing that gets hurt seems to blossom into a major injury real quick. Having everyone 100% healthy on a regular basis would be a nice change. The last time that happened was…2010-2011 I think? So it’s been a while.

    • John F

And you are surprised by Bears injuries why???

      • Johnnywad

Read a few injury reports from around the league. Three tight hamstrings is nothing. Nothing.

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Hogwash!! It is the beginning of the end.

          • leftcoastdave

Yes, but think how much fun we will have talking about what we do in the draft with the number one pick next year.

          • AlbertInTucson

“The sky is falling! The Sky is falling!” – C. Little.

    • Not too worried about Tre. He’s a starting vet – they sometimes find excuses for them not to play as much in the PS (I expect Long and a few others to get these “hamstrings”). Worst case scenario, Kwiat isn’t horrible. He isn’t great, but he’s better than say Timu or Anderson.

Lynch is always inj. Part of the reason SF let him go was because he would show up to camp overweight, then get inj. He has questionable desire.

Pace is hoping that reuniting him with Fangio will light a fire under his ass, but maybe he’s just going through the motions.

McMannis is a terrible CB, so won’t miss that. He’s a great sp teamer, but it’s not as if those can’t be replaced.

Roq needs to sign his damn contract. Did Tremaine Edmunds sign his? Yeah, then he needs to sign.

I don’t really get the off-set. You would have to be a complete bust for a team to cut you before the 5th yr. Shit, look at White. Inspite of him being the biggest bust of his class, he’s STILL on the team.

So just sign the damn contract, Roq.

      • ButtonShoes

One of the few things I’m really looking forward to is Roquan on defense. The kid’s got some real skills. He needs to sign that contract ASAP.

        • Johnnywad

Nagy, Helfrich, Trubisky season 2, Robinson, Gabriel, Burton, Miller, Daniels. You’re not looking forward to any of that?

I’m looking forward to Roquan suiting up too. But remember, he’s a tad undersized. So if that’s one of a FEW things you’re looking forward to, you may be sorely disappointed. While I did have my pre draft doubts, I’ve been very impressed with everything I’ve learned since. But nobody knows til they put the pads on.

    • AlbertInTucson

“… going into camp 100% healthy.”

      Kind of an unrealistic expectation.

  • leftcoastdave

Great story coming out of the Open with three from the American “frat house” at the top of the leader board:

“Sometimes it’s about who you know, and an invite to the elite Carnoustie “frat house” could be the key to unlocking the Open. Halfway
leaders Zach Johnson and Kevin Kisner are two of the fraternity sharing
lodgings in Scotland this week, alongside defending champion Jordan
Spieth, major winners Justin Thomas, Jimmy Walker and Jason Dufner, and
    fellow American Rickie Fowler.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Smith is still unsigned.

So are 6 other top 10 picks including the top 4.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

It’s a sign of poor character. Next thing you know he is going to be suspended for PEDs and sexually assaulting women. I can’t believe the Bears even drafted him, these type of character flaws should have been apparent in the interviews.

      • Johnnywad

I once saw him drown a puppy.

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Figures, the Bears should just cut bait and pull the contract offer right now. We don’t need that type of scum on the team.

        • Irish Sweetness

Funny. PEDs and sexually assaulting women. Okay.

Drowning puppies would cause a national outpouring of grief.

          • Doc Nitty

And rightly so. All that wet dog hair smell?! The humanity!

      • leftcoastdave

Get that tongue out of your cheek.

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Sorry I can’t help myself. I just think it is just stupid for fans to question someone’s character for holding out and trying to get the best deal possible. If he gets injured or sucks this may be the only decent contract he gets.

        • AlbertInTucson

Or his head out of his…JUST kiddin’.

    • Johnnywad

I’ve never experienced “dry heat” until yesterday and today. 95 in Boulder, CO feels like MAYBE 80 is SW, MI. 95 in Michigan is miserable to unbearable. I haven’t even felt hot out here yet. It’s a real thing.

      • AlbertInTucson

        The humid does make difference.

      • leftcoastdave

Good humor. Out here in the desert, we frequently have a dry 105 which is more comfortable than the 80s and humid in the midwest.

        • AlbertInTucson

          Humidity notwithstanding, 105 is toasty.

          Looking at 110 here Tuesday.

      • CanadaBear

No doubt. Just be cautious and use sunscreen. The sun is much more intense at altitude.

        • Johnnywad

We checked out Eldorado Canyon this morning. Some of the best scenery I’ve ever seen. Also some of the craziest, completely fearless, rock climbers. Those dudes are nuts.

          • CanadaBear

Truly fearless. None for me thanks. Hope you’re having a good time. The scenery is stunning. I know I sound like grandpa about the sunscreen but you can get burnt in a hurry at altitude. There should be some decent wildlife viewing in RMNP. I’ve seen lots of Bighorn Sheep, Coyotes, Marmots, etc. depending on where you’re at in the park. Up at the top of Trail Ridge Rd 12,100 it’s breathtaking on a clear day.

      • evantonio

I love Boulder. Been trying to move out there for a couple years but haven’t been able to find work.

The wife and I love our hair out there. At first we thought our hotel had an amazing hair dryer. Turns out the dry + altitude = amazing. Even our little boy, who has tight curls here in NY, had pin straight hair.

        • Johnnywad

          LOL. Priorities.

      • Doc Nitty

I lived in Boulder for three years. One of the coolest places I’ve been. A dry heat 6000 feet is different than a dry heat at lower altitudes. I used to love the quick afternoon thunderstorms in the summers.

  • Johnnywad

Toliver, ain’t having it with 3rd string QBs. He’s our new Joe Anderson. Okay, maybe he’s more than a Joe Anderson.

Sounds like Howard is working hard on the hands as well. Novel idea (glares at Fox)

    https://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/its-early-but-bears-rookie-cb-kevin-toliver-off-to-a-fast-start/amp/

    • leftcoastdave

I believe this kid (Toliver) will make the team as do others on the board. “Character issues” kept him from being drafted but hopefully Vic can get him on the right road. He may prove a steal.

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

He signed a contract so his “Character issues” could not be that bad, unlike some losers that are holding out.

  • leftcoastdave

    This is ridiculous:

“Outside linebacker Aaron Lynch did not practice after
suffering a hamstring injury Friday. Linebacker Danny Trevathan
(hamstring), cornerback Sherrick McManis (hamstring) and tight end
Daniel Brown (unspecified) also did not practice.”

    YOGA, YOGA, YOGA.

    • Johnnywad

Pretty common first week of camp

  • AlbertInTucson

Tony Sparano, Viking OL Coach, dead at 56.

  • AlbertInTucson

Sorry, Tiger fans. No Open Championship THIS year.

    • BerwynBomber

Partially relieved. The media and his fans would have never stopped with the “greatest victory ever” nonsense.

Wouldn’t mind seeing him win a regular tournament, though. But a major would be just too damn annoying.

      • AlbertInTucson

He is trying to defeat a HOST of very good, young golfers who were 3 or 4 years old when he turned pro.

        Italy is happy.

        • BerwynBomber

Which is presumably true of every 40+ guy who has ever won a major.

          • AlbertInTucson

Yes, but THOSE 40 something champs weren’t expected to be a dominant force in the game by that point in their careers.

      • AlbertInTucson

I was impressed he was able to stay in the hunt but, once again, his driver led him astray.

Preview of things to come, Trubs deep to White

    • Irish Sweetness

I can’t see how Miller comes in and outplays him. I mean, how?

      • leftcoastdave

        Different skill sets?

      • SC Dave

I expect Miller to show more this preseason than White has his entire “career”.

        • leftcoastdave

Miller WANTS it. Maybe White wanted it and the fates were not there for him, but you would think that White would have worked his route tree, etc., etc., whatever to get to where he needs to be. Maybe he has. But you know damn well that Miller has not and will not leave anything at all in the locker room. The kid is a gamer.

          • Johnnywad

White’s unlucky. Not dead. I don’t doubt his heart or desire at all. Kids just been broken. He may never play meaningful pro football, but let’s hope.

      • White hasn’t shown shit. Practically every other WR ,including Braverman or your beloved Deonte Thompson, has outplayed White.
If it weren’t for his draft status he wouldve been cut 2 yrs ago

  • Johnnywad

    https://www.facebook.com/ChicagoBears/videos/10156610380724452/

Matt Nagy presser. Some good stuff in there. About 8:20 or so in…….. quarterbacks working on reads, if they throw to 1, they point at 2 then 3. If they throw to 2, they point to 3. This is both to see for themselves if they were open but also so coaches can see how they are picking up the offense.

I’ve never been to a professional practice, maybe they all do that. But that sounds like a hell of an idea.

    • Irish Sweetness

      Solid.

    • AlbertInTucson

      NFL QB.

Most difficult, complicated position in sports.

Offhand, I can’t even think of a position that is a close 2nd.

      • That’s a good question. Decatholon or Iron Man athlete?

        Middle LB?

        Soccer striker or goalie?

        Water polo?

        • AlbertInTucson

None of those include the mental gymnastics required of an NFL QB.

Physically, decathletes still impress me and Jim Thorpe doing the Decathalon AND the Pentathalon, even in 1912, is quite a feat.

No standing around in waterpolo. Those guys are are swimming or treading water all the time.

          • Yeah. I can’t really think any other off the top of my head. Some might be more grueling but what other athlete has to memorize a bible of plays (which requires knowing their teammates assignments)and have to execute it within 3-5 seconds while a 300 pound beast is trying to break him?

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

          FG Kicker.

      • Johnnywad

The way Lach ran the D would be the closest second I could think of. But it’s a distant second. No other sport really has the same chess match, with so many pieces, going on to compliment the physical requirements.

  • willbest

    “Most American golf fans…”

I am comfortable with Jeff speaking for all American golf fans under 55

    • leftcoastdave

I’m not really comfortable about Jeff speaking for all Americans about anything but Bears football and our mutual love of Guinness. There may be more, but I have yet to read it.

      • AlbertInTucson

I’ll only grant him permission on the Guinness which, all too often, gets in the way of everything else.

      • willbest

I said all ameican golf fans under 55, which is probably him and 4 other people he has in his contacts list.

    • AlbertInTucson

CBS would say it’s The Masters.
