I’m going to let this play out but I think it was a mistake not going all in on McDaniels.
Nagy has called plays for less than one season and now has to run an entire team and call plays and build a culture. Wow.

    • Bear Instincts

this is why he needs to get a former HC as OC & DC. make the job easier on himslef

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

that is in no way a formula for success. We did that with Martz, Tice and Marinelli.

I know it’s been said a number of times by a number of folk, but the Belichik tree does not produce winners. Maybe this time would be different. Maybe McD will be better his second go around. But the track record of Bill’s boys does not inspire confidence, while Reid’s disciples always seem ready to roll.

That by itself makes me certain we’re about to go 57-0 over the next 3 seasons.

Comment on McD being super prepared. That Fox was on thing ice was not some well guarded secret. Any coordinator with aspirations of HC should have been putting together their ptich from the beginning of the season.

And if the McD interview went as well as Jeff claims, we will get to see which decision was the right one soon enough.

    • BearDown100393

I sh*t on the Bears management a lot (because I believe they absolutely deserve it) but this is a great video and message to fans. At least right now the Bears consider it big time to hire Matt Nagy. And they want the fan base to see it. It feels like the bar was raised a bit.

For now, I’ll take it. But I am acknowledging the effort.

I do not know if Nagy is the right guy for the job. But I like the overall effort toward bringing him here.

    Now get to work.

“Vic Fangio’s agent is trying to get Vic Fangio paid.”

My belief is that it will happen. Pace will pry the needed money loose. The only question I have is whether Fangio gets an HC offer.

    • Bear Instincts

He is not getting one. We would have heard about HC interview requests. He simply wants money since he is not getting a HC position. Also consider who his staff would be. That’s the same problem Flip ran into.

      • willbest

Fangio has been a coach in the NFL for 30 years and has worked for Saints, Colts, Panthers, Ravens, Texans, 9ers, and Us. I am sure he has a couple numbers he could call should he go to fill out his staff.

        • Bear Instincts

He has been passed on over and over. There has to be a reason. I think that he just does not have the HC vibe and part of that might his ability to draw talent to his side. Whatever the case I hope he does not go to GB if he decides not to return

          • Exactly. I predicted that neither Fangio nor Toub will get HC jobs, and will only get courtesy HC interviews.

            Turning out to be right.

Fangio was a red hot name once the 9ers dumped everyone.

And STILL Fangio couldn’t get a gig. Not even his own team the 9ers so much as interviewed him. So there’s def something there that teams that repels teams.

Remember, ppl for a long time wondered why Trestman never got an HC shot, and why he had to go to Canada.

            We now know why.

Toub I think is in the same boat.

He was red hot right after the Bears, and not a peep for him.

        • BearDown100393

Better to be a coordinator in demand than an also ran 1 and done HC.

      • leftcoastdave

I was thinking more in the titular “co-head coach” sense. But I expect that the great potential of what he has already built will win out. Give that D a few more pieces and see the depth pieces of the D line step up and he will have the next monsters of the Midway.

  • CanadaBear

Just read where Pink will do the anthem at the SB. I try to turn on the game after all the hoopla so I almost never see the anthem singer. Justin Timberlake is the halftime entertainment. That should be pretty good because the guy can sing and dance. The NFL won’t freak out like they did last year with Coldplay. At some point they realized watching Coldplay is akin to watching paint dry. Nothing against their music but there is no show in their show biz. They brought in Beyonce and Bruno Mars to help out. The worst half time show I’ve seen in years was The Who. They were hideous. Daltry couldn’t sing and Pete Townsend isn’t exactly a great guitarist. One of the best in recent memory was at the Bears SB when Prince performed.

    • EnderWiggin

      The Heartbreakers were decent.

Wasn’t Timberlake the guy who pulled off Jackson’s bra to expose her pastie?

      • CanadaBear

Yeah, it took the NFL a long time to get over it. I was watching that live and literally couldn’t see anything. They’ve had some decent half times but i always seem to remember the horrible ones. Considering they don’t pay the acts (the NFL pays the production costs for the show, which are huge) I’m surprised there haven’t been more disasters. Pretty sure The Who ended any chances for aging rockers other than the Stones, The Boss and Paul McCartney.

TP and the HBs was pre-recorded. Only reason I remember that was because a) it sounded remarkably clean for such a huge venue, and b) a story later appeared indicating that it was.

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

For awhile all the halftime shows were pre-recorded audios. I thought it was funny seeing Slash acting like he is playing the guitar one year.

          • BerwynBomber

No doubt that the vast majority are.

Hell, wasn’t Beyoncé busted for pre-recording her anthem at Obama’s second inaugural? And that’s just a single voice. Often the music will be pre-recorded but the singer will give a live rendition to the backing track.

    • BerwynBomber

Or that Cam has accuracy issues and is an emotional rollercoaster ride every season.

      • Bear Instincts

maybe hes an emotional rollercoaster because he is has been knocked around so much and the nfl does not do a damn thing to help him.

        • BerwynBomber

          LOL. Yeah, ok …

          • SC Dave

Do you watch Panther games, BB?

          • BerwynBomber

            Yes, why?

          • SC Dave

How many? You seriously think Cam newton gets protected as well as most other QBs?

It’s like with Rapelsberger, at least based on my limited watching of the steelers.

          • BerwynBomber

Well, first off I was laughing over the suggestion that Cam’s emotional instability has something to do with the hits he takes.

But … to the hits themselves.

I’m just not a huge believer in one team or player gets calls that others don’t.

Look at the hit on Rodgers this year. Looked borderline to me. He was definitely hit an extra step or two after he had released the ball, but the play didn’t even draw a flag.

Why do I think if that had been Cam (and he had suffered as severe an injury) we would have had a national debate about it for weeks?

Once a QB is outside the pocket they are a runner. Just how it goes.

The only QB who I might think gets preferential treatment is Brady, if only because two league rules were instituted because of hits/plays involving him.

Other than that, I just think it’s just a matter of refs being fallible. Sometimes they get stuff wrong. Sometimes they get it right.

Now if you’re talking pure pocket stuff then maybe Cam and Ben don’t get the benefit of the doubt because they can physically shed more than most. That I could see. I believe it has happened in hoops in regard to LeBron and Shaq.

          • SC Dave

I think we’re more or less on the same page. I *was* referring to the pocket stuff.

          • Agreed. Even in the pocket he takes massive shots and some don’t even get called.

There’s something psychological going on with the Refs when it comes to Cam. Think it’s a mixture.

Refs think “He’s a big boy. He can take it”
Refs think “Well, he’s lowering down his shoulder and showboating. This is what happens”

Look at Luck. About the same body type, but he has an “awe schucks” attitude that doesn’t rub the refs the wrong way.

        • willbest

NFL helps him the same way they help every other QB, he just lowers his shoulder like an RB so he gets treated like one.

          • SC Dave

Not true. But since you don’t watch them, I wouldn’t expect you to know. It has nothing to do with his running style when they don’t protect him in the pocket.

          • willbest

According to the NFL, 11 QB’s had it worse than Cam from 2013-2015. So I don’t know what to tell you.

I mean obviously Wilson, Brady, Rodgers, Brees get favorable calls in that regards, and that is a problem, but Cam isn’t singled out in the pocket.

          • Bear Instincts

For hits that are obviously egregious he is not getting the calls that the others would get

          • SC Dave

            Reference?

          • willbest
          • SC Dave

          • willbest

No it doesn’t. It is the author’s subjective belief.

          • willbest

The simple fact of the matter is that in order to assert Cam is being treated unfairly, you have to first stipulate that Dean Blandino is biased against Cam.

          • Bear Instincts

Really will. Look at all the outrage when Flacco go hit. Its not even the same. This is supposed to be the position that gets protected the most yet when it comes to Cam he gets treated like hes JAG.

          • SC Dave

Truth. It has amazed me how systematically they allow Cam to get speared and hit late in the pocket.

          • willbest

Big running Qb’s don’t get fair calls

          • CanadaBear

Not unlike Bobby Douglass. For some reason, it you’re a big guy and a running QB the rules don’t apply. Cam’s over the top personality doesn’t exactly work in his favor.

          • Bear Instincts

Agree. Regardless of personality QB’s make the league. If Cam leaves the league due to concussions its the league that’s going to take the hit

          • BerwynBomber

Short of its resulting concussion, the hit that Deion Jones put on Cam last year is still one of the funniest things I’ve seen in the NFL in years.

That was the play where Cam was showboating his way to a 2 point conversion when Jones came outta nowhere and clocked him. I’d link a vid but whoever posted it on YouTube was obviously a Cam or CAR fan as they edited out the showboating part.

      • Bear Instincts

Filp – will not happen. he just lost out on the big job. plus he will get HC interviews next year. we need people who will stick with MT10 for at lest 4 years

Fangio – wants money. pay the many to keep consistency

        • But Naggy will be the real OC, and he’s not going anywhere.
Look at how much Flip did with Wentz in one yr.

Trub is in his formative yrs. Having two of the best O minds molding him at this stage will be great.

Can worry about if Flip sticks later.

Also, according to Jeff’s insight, Flip bombed the interview and had no real network.

Might take him at least two yrs to try to build some and prove to the NFL he’s not just a QB coach.
