    “DaBearsBlog‏ @dabearsblog:

I am now genuinely excited for the 2018 season to start and the miserable 2017 season just ended like 9 days ago. How do they ALWAYS DO THIS?”

Maybe because you’re a sucker for this team, Jeff? You always think the best of the Bears, regardless of circumstances.

  • Nother Naggy nugget.

  • CanadaBear

Did the Bears win the lottery or something? Everybody (minus a few and you knew who you are) seem practically giddy. I’m really hoping but I’m not doing a cannonball into the kool-aid just yet.

    • AlbertInTucson

It’s the same as it always is: Crap Shoot.

      • CanadaBear

He has an engaging personality and there are no red flags as far as I know, so I’m very cautiously happy.

    • DaBearsBlog

Why don’t you just enjoy yourself? It’s only football.

      • CanadaBear

You know I do Jeff, but there’s no way going all in now seems like a good idea to an old fart. You kinda lose the fire at some point.

      • ButtonShoes

What about the past few years has been enjoyable to you? Oh well. You do you.

Beating Green Bay in Green Bay on Thursday night.

Bring on another Favre tribute night.

          • WP4Life

            …Rodgers tribute night VICTORY

          • The worst part is I KNOW Favre got his jolly’s off seeing Rodgers lose to us in an upset.

          • ButtonShoes

Ok I’ll give you that one.

        • BearDown100393

          Jeff always likes the Bears.

Even when he hates them, he still likes them.

Personally I hate going 5-11 and missing the playoffs over and over. But that might just be me.

          • Irish Sweetness

I embrace the suck. Own it.

The Cleveland Browns fans just had an 0-16 parade. Good for them.

…they raised enough food/cash for 70,000 meals too.

        • We ALMOST beat everyone instead of getting blown out!

If that doesn’t thrill you as a Bears fan, don’t know what will!

      • SC Dave

        Oh please… *you* saying this?

    • BearDown100393

You would almost think there was a funeral or something going on with a for sale sign out front huh?

    • SC Dave

None of this means anything. Football starts again in September.

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

So some of you on here like to give the Bears shit that they had to hire a consultant to find a GM. Did you know the Packers also had to hire a consultant to help them find a GM? It was the same guy that Houston was using to help them find a GM. Jed Hughes was simultaneously consulting for the Packers and Houston on finding a GM.

    • CanadaBear

Good work if you can get it.

    • ButtonShoes

All that means is that I’m going to shit on the Peckers for having to hire a consultant. Well, that’s not really true. I’ll shit on the Peckers mainly because they deserve it. And while I’m at it, I hope an anvil drops on Aaron Rodgers.

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Better shit on Houston, NYG, Carolina and I am sure many others, because they all hired consultants to help them find GMs.

        • BearDown100393

          They all suck.

        • ButtonShoes

Yeah I can do that. Because fuck all those teams.

    • BearDown100393

Since when is it great to be like the Green Bay Packers?

      Fack the Packers.

They are a public “owned” team meaning 50,000 incest hicks from the backwoods.

I hate them. All of them.

    • They aren’t exactly a model franchise.
Their management right now is a circus, They scapegoated many, while somehow empowering Grimus. Who the fuck is even in charge over there?

We all saw what they would be without Rodgers. Extrapolate that over a few years, and they would be us.

They got back to back HOF QBs.

      that’s it.

Their shitshow doesn’t cancel out ours, though at least we seem to be pointing in the right direction at least.

      • BerwynBomber

Agree with you about Rodgers, but they were a little more than just Favre in his era.
If nothing else, Holmgren was the real deal.

        • BearDown100393

He was Andy Reid before Andy Reid

        • A lil more, but an old ass Favre bolted to the Vikes and was a bountygate away from a SB.

So HOFer QBs, even old ones, make up for A LOT.

          • BearDown100393

He went NY and dick pic first

      • Dis Guy Trublinsky (Johnnywad)

Perhaps that’s why they fired a bunch of people and sought outside help to get their shit straight.

Seems like a reasonable next step to me.

        • BerwynBomber

But looks like to me they played musical chairs. McCarthy’s still there. Thompson gets some emeritus role. One of his protégé is promoted to GM. McCarthy brings back Philbin to be OC. Murphy — somewhat their Ted Phillips — is now assuming a more direct role in football operations.

Lots of internal movement but as far as I can tell their only fresh face is new DC Pettine.

          • Dis Guy Trublinsky (Johnnywad)

Whether it works or not is yet to be seen. My point is that the initiative to get help and make some changes is probably the very thing to do. I DO hope they keep rearranging deck chairs on the sinking Titanic that is an aging Aaron Rodgers.

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

my point being is that hiring a consultant to find a GM is a fairly common practice.

        • Dis Guy Trublinsky (Johnnywad)

It’s common practice in all big business. Talent placement is a multi billion dollar industry.

“You guys are so stupid you can’t even find a GM!”

Bears go get advice on hiring a GM.

“You guys are so stupid you need help finding a GM!”

      • SC Dave

Until we have even ONE HoF QB, they still win

    • BerwynBomber

That’s a franchise held together by Rodgers and the “tradition of Lambeau”.

Otherwise, it seems even more backwards and incestuous than we do. Much more, I’d argue. They’re stale as three week old bread.

  • ButtonShoes

    “Mike Jurecki‏ @mikejurecki:

Hearing the #Bears would like to talk to Cardinals defensive coordinator James Bettcher about a role in Chicago.”

Is this legit?? Because Bettcher would be an even better DC than Fangio.

    • Wonder what the role is?

I do like that Zona D. They are aggressive and flexible. They have that Hybrid LB/S Buchannon which Amos might excel in if imported.

      Be interesting name.

    • BerwynBomber

Tea leaves … wonder if this signals that talks with Fangio have stalled.

      • ButtonShoes

Maybe. Or maybe they’re trying to force his hand?

  • BearDown100393

    So….. we have no coordinators….

    • willbest

most organizations that fired their coach don’t even have one of those yet. chillax

      • BerwynBomber

Exactly. We are way ahead of schedule. I don’t even think Gruden has his staff yet and he knew he was going to be HC for a couple of weeks now.

        • BearDown100393

Gruden hired Joe Gibbs and John Madden

      • We also gotta remember that some of the best cordinators and assistants are, uhm, still in the playoffs.

    • BerwynBomber

Not so worrisome on the O side if Nagy is indeed calling the plays. Because, to a certain degree, Nagy will be the OC.

    • Due diligence.

After the DeCamillis/Tucker fiasco, I don’t mind them REALLY exploring every option.

It’s better than immediately hiring recycled coaches simply because of proximity and history.

  • BearDown100393

    Norv joining Ron

    • willbest

Supposedly that was Chico’s top choice.

    • What a crazy match.

Has Norv ever drawn up a read-option play in his life?

His vertical attack should match up well with Cam, but the whole running dynamic is odd with Norv.

      • BerwynBomber

Shula, IMO, did a decent job there. Don’t know what more he could have done.

Cam is one of the most electric, dynamic players in the league. Like Rodgers and Wilson (and arguably Wentz and potentially Watson), he can put a team on his back.

The problem is Cam is basically Cutty as a passer. Cannon-armed, erratic, bad throwing mechanics, a bit of INT machine. Capable of having a very good game one week, capable of going 11 for 24 with two picks the next.

        • SC Dave

Yes, but he runs better than Cutler.

          • BerwynBomber

Of course. He is an absolute beast. And because of that he is a ton more valuable than Cutler. (Though put a gun to my head I would argue Cutler is a slightly better passer — they’re just awfully similar.)

Btw, a good move for your Panthers would be to draft a replacement for Stewart. Dude’s seemingly been a pro’s pro but the tank seems pretty empty now.

  • Irish Sweetness

So Pace interviews 10 people or whatever .. .but one of them is not Steve Wilks? Why not?

    • BearDown100393

      We all know why.

      • CaponeBot 1.0

Because………Steve Wilks cannot call offensive plays???

oh, and because Steve Wilks is black…..and uh….because he didn’t agree to interview with the Bears….

        • Dis Guy Trublinsky (Johnnywad)

          LOL. But outside of that.

          Lovie was pretty black.

    • It was always gonna be an O guy, Irish.

    • CanadaBear

Sweaty Teddy told Pace not to interview Wilks and Chucky just to piss you off!

    • willbest

Unlike BD I would like the process to be drawn out a little bit because I like having something to look forward to other than the slave weigh in combine

    • ButtonShoes

Browns fans are rejoicing that he’s gone. So we might be boned.

  • BerwynBomber

Bears expected to hire Chris Tabor as ST coach per Biggsy.

  • beninnorcal

What’s the latest word on Fangio?

    • BerwynBomber

Tribune just reported they are still in talks.
Starting to wonder if Fangio is stalling and his preference is to leave.

      • He wants to leave, but he realizes other places didn’t want him or were worse for his career.

        • BerwynBomber

That and he might want to wait for the post-season to end to pursue every job that is out there.

But something certainly seems up as I assume the job offer has been on the table for 48 hours.

  • Hope it’s true.

ABC 15 in Arizona reports Vikings OC Pat Shurmur has emerged as the favorite for the Cardinals’ head-coaching vacancy.

Shurmur interviewed for Arizona’s vacancy last week, and rumors have had him potentially bringing impending free agent Case Keenum along with him should Shurmur land a head-coaching gig. He was
being considered by the Bears, but Chicago opted for ex-Chiefs OC Matt Nagy. Shurmur has also drawn interest from the Lions and Giants, who have yet to fill their head-coaching voids. – Roto

    • BerwynBomber

Why the hope? You like Shurmur?

  • I’m not a status quo dude by any means, but again, didn’t our RBs excel (Howard, Cohen, Benny)?

    Anywho.

Charles London new RB coach. London calling…

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/01/10/report-bears-add-charles-london-as-running-backs-coach/

    • CanadaBear

I think most, if not all, offensive coaches (and I do mean offensive) were allowed to look for work while still being employed. In other words, update your resume.

    • EnderWiggin

I don’t think it matters. I’m really looking forward to the trio with an improved O.

      • Yeah, RB is pretty instinctive. You either got that maniac mentality, vision and athleticism, or you don’t.

London pretty much just can’t fuck it up.

        • EnderWiggin

The one area I hope improves for the RBs – I want Howard to be able to catch a screen pass.
EDIT: No excuse for Howard not improving in that area for his second year . Maybe a coaching change will help that. I think, How hard could it be? Then, I remember it took Peterson a decade to learn it. A few more guys, but he sticks out the most.

          • I don’t know man. Leaving aside his hands (which you either got or don’t), his body type just isn’t conducive to catching.

He turns like a boat. By the time he turns for the pass, then turns back to run, the D is on him.

It’s like trying to make the Juggernaught nimble.

that’s why Benny looked a million times better at catching even though he’s not nearly on Howard’s level running.

          • EnderWiggin

Huh, well, that sucks. He is kindda elephanty at times. Good eye on Cunningham though. It’s odd, three guys and Howard is a pure runner, Cohen excels at running routes, and Benny is a rootin tootin blitzer picker-upper.

          • BerwynBomber

And that’s why a guy like Zeke is so valuable. Basically does all those things very well.

          • Irish Sweetness

            #Youcanneverhaveenough

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

The one area I hope improves for the RBs is the OLine. They got pushed around a lot. Hard to run when you are getting hit in the backfield.

          • EnderWiggin

Fekkin Grasu man. I also hope Long’s three surgeries go well. Didja notice how the Bears shut his ass up? He made an announcement that he was going to outline what he’s been through and what his next few months will be like. Not a peep since – that was two or three weeks ago.

          • Irish Sweetness

I’d say there’s no excuse for that ever. You get to the pro game and you can’t catch a fkn ball?

I’ve seen him a few times at jam shows, playing with a bunch of heavy hitters, and he stands out. I think he’s only 21, but he’s turning a lot of heads. I think he’s my favorite young player since Derek Trucks hit the scene in the late 90’s, He starts shredding around 5 minute mark.
