Jeff is either doing his Elwood Blues impression or has a cold.

I need to make his bongos intro into my ringtone.

I told you Peterman was the only NFL prospect. And he’s not good enough.

    • Huge Bears Penis

Jeff doesn’t have a cold. He quit drinking so the numbing effect alcohol has been having on his voice is finally wearing off.

  • Artoo

Give me a legitimate article explaining how Urlacher doesn’t hold a candle to Singletary and how he didn’t change the game.

    • BuddhaJoe

Just chalk that up to the lack of booze on Jeff’s part. Fucking quitter.

    • Doc Nitty

Give me one good reason why Urlacher DID change the game. I don’t see it. Great? Yes. Change the game? No. I’m still on the fence as to whether or not he’s a hall of gamer.

I gues you could argue that his ability to cover the middle of the field made the Lovey Duece so good. But if he truly changed the game, wouldn’t we be seeing more of it and not less of it?

      • Scharfinator

Changing the game is a hard one…

Is it that he changed all the games he played in? He kept the cover-2 relevant much longer than you’d expect (seems pretty outdated now).

But as for changing the face of football? I don’t think so. Maybe his physical attributes started to become a big deal for coaches down the road when looking for potential LB’s (speed over size, though both is best). I remember seeing an article about how Ray Lewis was about 30 lbs less at the end of his career vs. the start thanks to how the game had shifted from run to pass heavy.

        • Artoo

I might be reaching a little there but I still don’t think anyone has been on Urlacher’s level since he left with the exception of Luke in Carolina.

The guy was a hybrid linebacker with unheard of skills that teams tried to find.

Like someone said below, he could play linebacker and safety while still making plays as if one was his real position.

What made me a hot mess is how Singletary is supposedly light years ahead of Urlacher.

I’ll probably get murdered for saying this but I’ll take Urlacher over Singletary.

          Just my .02

          • MB30SD

I will put in a vote for #54. Wagner is an absolute animal all over the field.

Now, you can argue it’s because of the rest of that D, but I’d argue his play ENABLES the rest of that D to be so good.

I personally think he’s better than luke. Sorry dave

          • SC Dave

            I won’t say you’re wrong; I simply disagree.

I’d sure as fuck take either as a Bear (assuming Luke’s brain is okay).

          • MB30SD

            indeed

          • Artoo

Wagner reminds me of Patrick Willis and James Harrison had a kid.

I can’t really compare Urlacher to him but I would take him in a heartbeat.

The leader of that defense in Seattle is Kam Chancellor. The Bears need a leader like that on defense.

          • MB30SD

dude, you know my mancrush is Kam, but we weren’t talking SSs yo

          • Artoo

He’s amazing. He might retire though.

      • Big Mike

His ability to drop into coverage was something that changed how offenses attacked the middle of the field. His range was unheard of. He was a middle linebacker who could play safety. His speed, recognition, reaction time, lateral pursuit were a unique combination. Bears fan took him for granted, because he didn’t knock a lot of helmets off.

With that said changing the game is a reach. That’s a label that few deserve. Brady, Rice, Lawrence Taylor, Butkus, Ditka etc. There are great players HOF players, who may have been the best at their position (Payton for example), but they did not change the game.

        • Huge Bears Penis

agree with almost everything you said, except ‘Bears fans took him for granted’ portion. He was a fan favorite for almost his entire career, and it was clear how good and important he was when he was out injured.

          • Big Mike

I give you that he wasn’t taken for granted. It seems to me that in general, his pass coverage ability and how he changed the dynamic might not have been truly recognized.

      • Big Mike

Hey Doc, you got me reminiscing about #54. There are a ton of “Brian Urlacher Highlight”

videos on youtube, but most focus on his 7 or 8 career Pick 6s or the AZ game with the fumbles and so on. But this clip shows his range. He’s covering tight ends 25 yards down the field and making plays on the ball that our goddamn safeties can’t make.

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rskIg2rYyw&t=195s

        • SC Dave

Great video. Helps put to rest the myth that Urlacher did not *hit* people; he was large and more importantly, moving at high speed.

          k = m/(2*v*v)

          • Big Mike

Some of his interceptions were unbelievable. His closing speed was fantastic. He wacked quite a few receivers around. Haven’t even come close to having a playmaker like that on our team. Watching that video was a bit aggravating, just seeing how far away we are from being great.

      • BerwynBomber

        Lach’s a first-ballot HoFer. It’s not even a discussion.

      • Artoo

He’s a hall of famer. No doubt in my mind.

    • DaCoaches Mustache

The best thing about Singletary was his smarts. He was a film room maniac before they existed. Not the biggest guy, not the fastest guy, but he was the smartest guy and he could lay the wood. He put that team in position to be successful. He would call out the opponents plays before they happened, and that was not common at all back then. Now, everyone has an ipad and can pull up film anytime they want, but Singletary had an old school projector at his house and he would watch more game film than anyone. It really surprised me he was such a shitty coach. Too much passion I guess. You can’t show your team your naked ass during a halftime speech and still get any respect. Can’t do it

      • MB30SD

Can’t do it, won’t do it.

Yep, too cray to be a coach

      • Big Mike

One of the simple facts that gets overlooked during the silly season of big men running around in shorts, is reaction time. We’ll sit around splitting hairs over .1 of a second in the 40 yard dash. But completely ignored is reaction time. While I have no data on college or professional football players, I do have some insight for HS players. Film study has shown that an all-state LB who ran a 4.8 forty, reacted consistently .3 to .5 of a second after the snap. His back up, who saw quite a bit of playing time and was a starter the next year, ran a 4.7, but his reaction time was .4-.9. The difference is a guy who went on to play D1 at Virginia Tech and a guy who was a real good high school player.

      • Artoo

Urlacher was that too. I remember how rookies would and vets would bet on what the offense was running but when Urlacher wanted to do it, they eventually stopped.

Urlacher would get them right all the time and the players got tired of losing.

I do agree Singletary was first to do it and did it well.

        • SC Dave

Singletary was not the first to do it. On the Bears, that would no doubt be Bill George.

      • SC Dave

Must be why Buddy called him an idiot.

    Hey guys,

I need a bad ass seven layer dip recipe pronto! My Lovely has promised me a seven layer dip for Sunday. After seeing what she did with last nights chili, I have extremely high hopes. She can turn a recipe into a thing of art. But she would like a good platform to start from. I know some of you guys take your football food seriously. Help a brother out will ya?!?

    Waffle?!? I’m talking to you!

    • Sauron’s right eyeball

Sour cream, real avo’s, sharp cheddar, Doritos, black beans or refried beans, hella fackin pino’s.

      • Doc Nitty

Nice list. Now for that recipe…

      • Waffle

I approve of the use of Doritos. Next level dip maneuver.

        • Big Mike

It’s like cheating to start with Doritos.

      Your lovely?!

Do I need to worry about you?

      • Doc Nitty

        Yes. Yes you do.

        • MB30SD

          I always have. Sigh.

Have my teachings not enlightened you?!? Have my stories of I’ll not swayed your path?!

          • Doc Nitty

When the first woman I got with post divorce was the same woman I’d been fantasizing about for years, I had to go all in. And then when things just got better and better and better, how could I search for greener pastures? I moved in with her. If I hadn’t, she’d have been evicted and homeless. I’m fully in love with this woman. Sometimes the universe decides things for you, you know?

          • MB30SD

            Good for you doc!

Evicted and homeless. Oh god doc what have you gotten yourself into?!?

          • CanadaBear

Glad you’re so happy! You deserve it.

          • Doc Nitty

            Thanks man. Sincerely.

I know your ex put you through the ringer. I’m quite certain you didn’t have that coming.

        • CanadaBear

Sounds like you’re the marrying kind. If she’s the right one, good on ya!

The trick is not to let the first one overcome you.

Like going on a new exercise or nutritional regiment, the first week or so is hardest then it becomes easy.

You just have to make it through the first 2 or 3 new unwraps… Then it’s all you want and a girlfriend sounds like a horrible idea.

…Or, at least, that’s how it worked for me.

    • Waffle

      I will.deliver

I see Jeff is back to giving the hard sell on Cutler this morning.

See I don’t mind that in it avoids my two least favorite scenarios of Jimmy G and Brian Hoyer followed closely by one I am increasing dubious of, drafting a QB at 3. But lets not pretend he is even a midterm answer. If Pace doesn’t come out of the draft with an extra first or second for 18 to play in that QB market or pick up somebody like Mahones in 2 or beyond then it will be hard to have confidence in his ability to solve the QB problem

  • Bender McLugh

as for Hooker’s surgeries (labrum & hernea):
“Hooker played through the injuries last year, and had a standout season for the Buckeyes.”

Does this count as injury risk?

    • Huge Bears Penis

probably. I think he only played 2 years in college so durability has to come into question.

      • CanadaBear

Esp when you consider the wear and tear on the body at that position.

I dunno. If Pace goes this way and gives up what I think he’s going to give up – I’m going to just go be a Blackhawks fan and do something else with my Sundays. I am tired of a team that lurches from asswipe GM to asswipe GM, each desperate to make a splash by doing fuckwit things and Halas Hall being the running joke in the NFL as one of the worst – on par with the clueless Ford family and Detroit – one of the worst run teams in the league.

fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuckity fuck.

    • MB30SD

      Yeeeeup.

      Browns north. I’ll join you.

      • CanadaBear

I tend to agree with your trepidation about Jimmy G. but he might actually work out. Probably not but I would at least give the guy a chance if the Bears go ahead with the trade. Of course, after about 55 years of being a fan there’s no hope for me totally giving up on them.

        • MB30SD

It’s not so much that Canada, it’s the desperation that’s dripping from it. In theory I’m not against the move, I just know that the evil one ALWAYS comes out on top.

It’s a crapshoot isn’t it? Let’s be honest, it’s been over 30 years since the Bears drafted a top tier QB. Maybe we’re the ones who are crazy for thinking the Bears will be able to ever draft a franchise qb. Maybe this way is the way to go.

    • Big Mike

Don’t know why you hate Garopolo. My logic is this. If he were coming out of college this year, with the skill set he has currently, wouldn’t we be all giddy with joy to draft him? So if we can get him for anything less than 3rd pick of the draft, doesn’t that make him a bargain?

      • willbest

Convince me that it is highly likely that Brady plays 3 more years.

      • Sauron’s right eyeball

Know this, if Jimmy G. is all that, he goes for a 1st plus some. Last time I checked, BelIicheat ain’t in the business of handing out discounts for franchise qbs.

        • Big Mike

We’ll see. I don’t know how I feel. Every time I start thinking about a QB for the Bears, I go ahhh fuck it. I’ll just wait to see what they do and I’ll be optimistic about that guy until he sucks.

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

It could be the Patriots are trying to get something for Jimmy G. before he’s a free agent, I’m sure they already know he wants more than they’re willing to give him. Who knows.

          • Big Mike

Exactly who knows. The Patriots will let teams try to outbid each other for a while, but once camp starts Jimmy G’s value starts to go down.

        • Irish Sweetness

A #3 pick is a first plus some in my book.

And if you do lamb .. when it’s done, cover it in clingfilm until it’s cooled down and ready to eat. Keeps all the flavor in.

          • MB30SD

Oh I motherfucking do lamb myboy!!

Start that shit in a sizzling hot castiron pan to dear all sides with butter, then finish in the oven at 400 till VERY ping on the inside. Boom

    • That Guy

My law partner and I usually watch the game at his place. Usually there’s a crowd so we’ll do Chili or wings or something (he did a Turduckin a couple of times). This year its just us and maybe a couple of our kids. So he suggested a couple of ideas and I just looked at him…

“If its just us, why don’t we just buy a couple of really nice steaks?”

      And that’s what we’re having.

      • CanadaBear

Good man, don’t over think it!

        • Sauron’s right eyeball

My first thought was, “swell, the company just gets turduckin but since it’s just us, Filet Mignon it is!” Hahaha

      • Sauron’s right eyeball

        • CanadaBear

Chuck steak, Baby! Tougher than wang leather.

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

Yeah man, I remember the when I moved away from home and I bought some round steak to grill because it was cheaper. Boot leather express. Lol

          • CanadaBear

Been there! Not sure what the price of beef is in the US but in Canada it’s getting outrageous. I don’t buy steak unless it’s on sale. Living on the Island the seafood is fresh and fantastic. Not cheap but outstanding. Not sure if you’ve ever had Fanny Bay oysters but they are huge and fabulous. Fanny Bay is less than an hour from our house.

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

My folks would love that. They’re oyster lovers. I can only eat them if accompanied with lemon juice, horse radish and coctail sauce.

          • CanadaBear

Love ’em on the half shell. Naked or dressed (unlike women, who are much better naked).

My buddy bought a sous vide machine a year ago. he came over a couple weeks ago and I finally tried some steaks cooked that way. They were amazeballs.

          • MB30SD

yep, totally. It’s the act of buying one of those things.

The state of IL has 2 options for managing its impending crisis

      1) Reduce benefits and services going forward by a non-trivial amount. The practical realities of which caused IL residents to amend the constitution to protect the funding for roadwork.

        51-53

        • MB30SD

          hee hee

      • By my count, 7-20 (1-0 in 2010, 1-5 in 2011, 0-1 in 2012, 3-3 in 2013, 0-1 in 2014, 0-1 in 2015, 2-9 in 2016).

A big part of that is skewed by 11/27 of those games coming this year, when they also sucked with Cutler (1-4 with, 2-9 without, same difference).

Still, it’s 5-11 if you take those out.

Of course, winning 1/3 of your games with a backup QB is actually not terrible.

It’s a poor stat to prove Cutler’s worth, IMO. But the point is incredibly fair that the team around him has largely not been great. From 2010-12 they had a good roster and were good with Cutler. Outside of that, they had a bad roster and were bad.

Just like Stafford in Detroit. Or Ryan in Atlanta. Or Flacco in Baltimore. Or Rivers in SD. Or Romo in Dallas. Or Smith/Kaepernick in SF. Or…

Some of those QBs (Romo, Rivers) are clearly superior to Cutler based on stats, but the point remains. When you have a shitty roster, the QB doesn’t matter. The majority of established starters will be good with a good roster and bad with a bad one. That was the Bears’ experience with Jay.

Cutler wasn’t the solution they hoped he would be, but saying he’s the problem is a massive oversimplification.

        • BearDown100393

This is better than anything I’ve read on the blog posts since the start of the season.

          • AlbertInTucson

Actually, 7-20 is better than I expected.

        • BerwynBomber

Comparing Cutler to Romo, Rivers and Ryan is pretty laughable. Just not the same level of quarterback no matter what metric you apply — team success or individual stats.

Personally, I doubt if Jay even compares that favorably to Carson Palmer. And even the Stafford argument is starting to show some holes.

          • MB30SD

phhhhaw! cuntler has em alllllllll beat in a few very dubious catagories

          • BerwynBomber

Cutler Apologia is like a whole graduate-level program of recent Bears fandom. Most of it betrays itself by being guilty of the same thing it argues against: overstatement.

          • Agreed. My point was not that Cutler is as good as those guys (though he’s every bit the equal of Flacco and Stafford, Palmer, Eli, Smith, and Kaepernick IMO).

My point is that using W/L record to evaluate a QB is kind of pointless unless you’re talking about differentiating between great QBs.

Because anybody but the best of the best will QB a shitty team if they’re surrounded by a shitty roster and a good team if surrounded by a good roster. All of the guys on this list have shown that. They’re all at least competent NFL starters but not the Brady/Rodgers/Peyton caliber player. And they’ve all had double digit W and double digit L seasons where they took almost all the snaps.

          • BerwynBomber

Fair enough. But I also think guys like Flacco, Eli and Stafford should be tossed a bone for their team success. I suppose you could say they are a bit lucky but I’m betting something more goes into it (individually) than that.

          • willbest

All 3 of those guys have had teams that have gotten them to the post season for a few goes. Eli and Flacco rose to the occasion at least once. Stafford hasn’t. Cutler had a shot, but then got himself hurt and threw another ones away the following year with an injury.

          • BerwynBomber

Stafford carried his team more than his team carried him this year.

Not sure about all the Eli and Flacco post-seasons, but yes, they might have been like Jay’s lone one: more about the D (and STs) than the play of the QB.

Regardless, playoff appearances have to count for something as a QB.

          • Irish Sweetness

I’ve never seen Flacco or Eli make the throws that Jay can. Plus, didn’t Eli lead the league in INTs the season before last? Not a word said about that.

          • willbest

When you get your act together for 2 super bowl runs, people cut you a lot of slack on your off years.

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

            Does that include strip sacks?

          • Then how do you explain the Giants and Lions sucking for a large part of their QB’s tenures? Stafford has never won a playoff game. The Giants were 6-10 or worse for like 4 straight years before they got their defense fixed

Flacco’s Ravens were really good for a while, but have been getting steadily worse as his paycheck climbs and they have to let good talent go elsewhere.

It’s almost like their team success has very little to do with their level of play and much more to do with the caliber of talent (and coaching) around them.

          • Irish Sweetness

Exactly. How can you compare QBs based purely on stats or on W/L records, when they had different teams around them? There are maybe, and I’m being conservative here, maybe 5 guys in the league who can make the throws Jay can… if that. Is he very mobile? Nope. Few are.

          • Irish Sweetness

How many SBs have Romo and Rivers been in? Rememeber, Cutty has only just turned the corner in his career. He matured in 2015/16. People haven’t seen the best of Cutty yet IMHO.

          • willbest

I think thats a dream. Cutler’s best year was 2011.

          • Irish Sweetness

            Not even close.

            2015 His highest ever rating (92) – 64% completions

            2011 85 rating – 58% comps. almost identical INT% though.

His decision making didn’t turnaround until 2015. But like Mike says, I’ll support whoever the QB is until he sucks.

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

Smh. This is close to trolling, please get with the program, mmmkay?

          • CanadaBear

Aren’t you forgetting that he has a chronic thumb injury and is coming off a torn labrum? Not to mention he sucked cock last year.

          • Irish Sweetness

Partially torn I thought. I’d like to see the medical report on his “chronic” thumb, and he only sucked last season because of those injuries. He was great the season before. He didn’t get bad overnight.

The upside on keeping Cutty for a year is we can draft defense or trade-down.

          • CanadaBear

He was slightly above avg in 2015 but for Jay I guess that means great.

          • CanadaBear

Everything I read was it was torn. His thumb has been fucked on numerous occasions. To me, that’s chronic. He’s completely breaking down and it’s not like he has been all that when healthy. 8 years of mediocrity or worse is enough. Spare me the excuses. If Pace/Fox roll with Cutler this year and the team is hideous, they are both gone. Not worth the risk for a chance at a couple more wins (and that’s only a chance certainly no guarantees).

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

        • Irish Sweetness

Put Matt Ryan on the Bears the last ten years and he is also 52-52, no?
Put Cutty on that Falcons team, and he’s in the SB just the same.

          • willbest

You don’t think Matt Ryan comes home with it sometime between 2010 and 2012?

I guess he doesn’t have Jay’s scrambling ability and lord knows he needed it behind those offensive lines, but with those defenses he wouldn’t have needed to do very much.

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

There’s a big difference between Matty Ice and Cutty dice because all we’ve gotten from Cutler is snake eyes. Dude has to go, he’s a ball buster.

      • Irish Sweetness

Exactly, and since when has a QB overcome shitty players around him. Everywhere. The line is only now starting to reach acceptable levels of operation, and we could still upgrade both tackle spots, or move Whitehair over and go with Grasu at Center.

Jay is our best option at winning THIS season. The dynasty thing is dead. Got to get that Lombardi in ANY season and stop trying to build a ‘dynasty’. Drafting a top defender at #3 or trading down makes the whole team better NOW. Drafting Kizer or Trubs doesn’t really do ANYTHING for winning NOW. There is only the now, as any Buddhist will tell you. The past has already happened, and the future doesn’t, and never will, exist.

        • CanadaBear

He played 1 good game last year against the Queens. His QB rating for his 5 games last year was 78.1 with less than 60% accuracy and more TO’s than TD’s. What part of those stats says Jay is our QB?

          • willbest

The part where I would rather not part with #3 for Jimmy, Watson, Kizer, or Trubisky and I have zero interest in Hoyer regress to his mean.

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

What the hell happened to Irish, Canada? I liked him better when he was trying to swing a Cutty trade for Orton. Smh.

          • CanadaBear

I agree the Bears MIGHT win 1 or 2 more games with Cutler (although they might lose more with him) but who cares? They will be lucky to get to 6-8 wins next year. Big whoop! Not to mention Irish used to always be pissed when the Bears sucked and won a couple of games down the stretch to lower their draft position.

So … assuming the La Canfora report is accurate — a big assumption — here are the Garappolo highlights from his first two weeks of the season.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixrLtgGKS-8

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUI6YmBkj1w

    A few armchair observations:

    — his release looks sharp
    — his accuracy looks above average
    — his arm looks average
    — his athleticism looks average
    — he navigates the pocket well
    — the pocket protection he is afforded is often excellent/superb
    — the last play he makes in the ARI video is by far the best play he makes period
    — he does not look 6’2″, more like 6’0″ or 6’1″

    • willbest

I am going to straight murder Pace if Hoodie uses #3 to draft Trubisky and a decade from now we are talking about whether Trubisky or Brady is GOAT.

      • BerwynBomber

FWIW, La Canfora reports a package of multi-year second rounders might be enough.

        • That’s the same package that got Alex Smith and Matt Cassell. The standard package for a starting QB with some questions.

      • Irish Sweetness

That’s EXACTLY what he would do.

    • willbest

Basically you are saying his upside is Romo and his downside is Hoyer.

      • BerwynBomber

His height would worry me a bit. The Brees and Wilsons are fantastic for the game but they’re also the exceptions. (Even Rodgers at 6’2″ is, at best, only average height.)

If I have my choice I still want the 6’4″ or above dude. Doesn’t mean Garappolo can’t have an excellent career but it doesn’t look like his height is an asset.

        • MB30SD

          Sniff

        • Sauron’s right eyeball

Which is why Bellicheat had to draft Mallet in the 3rd. The possible upside was too great to pass up.

    • Irish Sweetness

A few armchair observations on Trubisky :– his release looks SHARPER (and technically good).

      — his accuracy looks above average also
      — his arm IS strong
      — his athleticism looks ABOVE average
      — he navigates the pocket well

He looks more durable than Garropolo, and if Jimmy G was all that, then why hasn’t another team gone after him? Jimmy is more Doug Flutie than Big Ben. I don’t know where all the love comes from, but I haven’t seen his full games – his ‘highlight’ reel is all dump-offs and wide open receivers.

The closer we get to draft day, the more I like Cutty + Malik (either one) or Solomon etc. or, Cutty + trade-down for picks.

We don’t NEED a QB right now. We have a damn good one, and if Shaw’s recovery goes to plan, he’s the backup.

      • MB30SD

Where do you come up with this stuff yo?!

      • CanadaBear

I saw him play in bowl game this year and he seemed like a very slow processor. Sound familiar?

  • Huge Bears Penis

We should sign Kap, Manziel, and draft Watson. Just for the hell of it.

    • willbest

If you are going to do that, you have to commit. Kaep, RG3, Tebow, and Watson. Run a quadruple headed monster. Nobody knows which QB (or two they face each week).

      • Huge Bears Penis

RG3 is still under contract with Browns, they may not cut him. It is reported Kap is going to opt out. And FUCK Tebow right in the face.

        • MB30SD

Right in his Bible thumping face.

          I’m sure he’s a lovely boy though

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

Yeah man, but you gotta realize erraone has a program, is programmed, or are being programmed. It’s a game of chess my man.

          • MB30SD

Yep, money is my program right now. Gotta get the win. Then it’s onto something new.

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

            Boom!

          • MB30SD

Yeah, I’m thinking maybe become a mixture of Tony Bourdain and Indy Jones… Just not on TV/movies.

Gotta sell the co. First tho

  • Irish Sweetness

Just reading that Fox article below on Jimmy G … Brian Hoyer was undrafted? Go figure.

  • MB30SD

At JFK right now on my 5 hr layover.

Man, traveling reminds me of one thing… Humans are some weird looking mofos.

In SD we get all the beautiful people, but traveling you get erraone. Damn, there are definitely more weird looking people than beauties out there. Does that make me shallow AND spoiled? Sigh.

    • MB30SD

Although I am in New York and I just fired up the bummble and my god there are some hot women here. I’m swipping right an awful lot.

I might die if I lived here from sheer volume alone

You know lions are a legit threat to killing the indigenous people. And its a great source of revenue for them to sell those licenses.

          Don’t care!

  • Sauron’s right eyeball

    How longs your layover?

    • MB30SD

Its basically an FU to the Johnny Knox’s of the world won’t really matter to everybody else. And to my knowledge there is nothing there that prohibits the Bears from covering it themselves or for a player to buy supplemental insurance like Finley did. I believe such costs are outside of the Salary Cap calculations in the NFL. The MLB cap includes even the breath mints in the locker room, but then they don’t have a hard cap.

As GP pointed out below its a bucket of water when you house is on fire, but the legislature is too chicken shit to do something meaningful. The people that pay the taxes won’t let them cut the roads and other essential shit that keeps commerce running, and the 1/3rd of the voters that survive on the wealth transfer payments won’t let them cut those either. So state employees get promised shit that the state will never be able to deliver and one of these days the state is going to have a Detroit level meltdown.

      • Sauron’s right eyeball

So the only thing left to do is let the people continue to carry a heavier bucket of water. Nice Illinois, land of Lincoln, well done.

      • Huge Bears Penis

sad thing is the Bears won’t cover it. McCaskey is one of the people pushing for it.

        • willbest

They treated Knox right. Gave him an extra year on IR when they knew he wasn’t coming back. I don’t know what workerman’s comp covers but I suspect that was worth probably a decades worth of what he would get on disability.

    • Doc Nitty

Hopefully much ado about nothing. But if it’s isn’t….well that sucks.

  • CanadaBear

Went to the Civil Rights Museum today. What a powerful experience. Very moving.

    • Sauron’s right eyeball

From the NFL Awards Show tonight:

    MVP: Matt Ryan
    OPOY: Matt Ryan
    DPOY: Kahlil Mack
    OROY: Dak Prescott
    DROY: Joey Bosa
    Comeback POY: Jordy Nelson
    COY: Jason Garrett
    ACOY: Kyle Shanahan

    • Artoo

I kind of thought Ryan would win OPOY but not MVP

      • willbest

How often is the MVP neither the OPOY nor DPOY?

  • BerwynBomber

    HoF Class 2017:

    L. Tomlinson
    K. Warner
    T. Davis
    J. Taylor
    M. Andersen
    K. Easley
    Jerra

    (Yes, TO got snubbed again.)

    • EnderWiggin

One of these days we’ll get Steve McMichael in. Though, that is a pretty good list this year.

    • Doc Nitty

A year to catch up on the back log it seems. Happy for Kenny Easley. Never was on the TD bandwagon. The rest I’m okay with. T.O. Shoulda got TDs spot. Goes to show you, the hall is becoming more about whose asses you kissed than how good you are.

      • BerwynBomber

I don’t mind TD. Kind of a Sayers-like career. Plus, he still has post-season records that stand today.

Yeah, Easley was always overshadowed by Lott but a helluva safety in his own right.

        • TD was definitely contentious. I don’t think he made as much as an impact as Sayers though. Sayers was also a return monster. Electrifying.

That being said, I don’t mind him in, but no way should either him or Taylor be in b4 TO.

      • CanadaBear

I don’t think it’s ass kissing as much as TO was such a tool nobody could stand him.

  • Few things from Da Jahns show.

    1. GMs will always delude themselves into taking a QB. If you need a QB, most likely, your team sucks (or is a QB away from SB run a la Texans). Desperation inflates that 5 girl at the bar to an 8-9 esp after a few beers and closing time nears (on the clock…)

Totally agree with Jeff on comparing apples to oranges or shuttlecock to tennis balls (joke in there somewhere).

College QBs too often come from that read-option/spread/wishbone/shotgun system that has little carry over to the NFL. So few things I TRY to do as an armchair scout.

    – See there comp % (try to throw out the bubble screens and quick slant shit) and focus on “NFL type throws”
    – Does the QB take big hits while making big throws?
    – Can he read the field and go beyond the 2nd read?

Bonuses: came from NFL type system. 6’5 230 +. Arm. Excelled against tough competition. Lead comebacks. Winning team. Some mobility.

    2. As for Alshon, need to “overpay him”. We have the cash unless we unload it for Berry and a few others.

Other guy I like at WR is Pryor who looked very good, is young and still learning the position (also former QB which I think helps, see Edleman). For some reason though, lots of fellow players have dissed him, and the Browns themselves may have benched him, so gotta see what’s up with that.

    3. We all knew Shea was NEVER a DE. Remember that Lovie drawl “Well, he played DE 50% of the time at DE” God. Fuck them both. But Fangio gave Shea a real shot at his natural position, and he was STILL put on skates, dragging down guys from behind 5 yds down the field, “barely” missing sacks, and making absolutely NO impact plays. Fuck him.

    4. Hooker. My main concern is def his frame. Ppl say he looked like Reed out there. I contend he looked like Deion Sanders, and that goes for his body type too. This is Reed.

    https://cdn1.lockerdome.com/uploads/642db922edf74ec659d222c1dbf4394d8a9f9e536c9e091a0200e6501e794de0_large

Hooker’s legs might be the size of Reed’s bicep.

I’m not that concerned about his “experience” (or lack thereof). His instincts are superb.

But once more…inj concern? Fuck. That’s scary for any Bears fan

That being said, CAN NOT draft Adams in top #3. Can’t do it. I kept saying that Adams is regarded as superior to Hooker in some circles, and I can see the arguments, but he’s not a ball-hawk. He’s not an A+ SS like Sean Taylor was where his tape just gets you pumped.

If Hooker inj concerns are too much for Pace, then go with the good steam in Allen or Thomas. (Unless you still wanna see Unrein out there).

It’s a deep S/CB class anyways. Draft the top one of those in the 2nd and go from there.

  • “And if they put Jason Taylor in and keep Charles Tillman or Devin Hester out, the HoF voters should be ashamed of themselves.” – Jeff

I don’t know about Peanut, but Hester should def get in. Man, should’ve stuck with the Falcons. How sweet would it be to see him opening a SB with a KO TD again?

And c’mon, jabrones. OF COURSE Lach is getting in first ballet. No brainer.

A lot of the HOF has to do with which players the NFL pimped out during a player’s career, and Lach (and to a lesser extent, Hester) were pimped out.

Jason Taylor was too, which helps explain his entry.

TO should’ve def got in, but he just pissed off too many reporters and writers, I guess.

See boys and girls, be nice, even if it’s purely for selfish reasons.
