Turn the Beat Around: Reactions to the Draft Reactions

| May 1st, 2017

Who Cares About Glennon?

Seriously, who cares? Rich Campbell makes the argument in Monday’s Tribune that the Bears must repair their relationship with the recently-signed QB before the start of the 2017 season. But Thursday night was a concrete, definitive statement from Ryan Pace: Glennon, you’re not the guy. (Thank God)

And I don’t care what Pace and Fox say about Glennon being the starting quarterback. They both know the ideal scenario is Mitch Trubisky winning this job in OTAs and over the summer and making it impossible to keep him off the field. That validates the pick and means the future of the franchise starts now.

Jahns, In a Paragraph

From Sun-Times beat and all-around nice guy Adam Jahns:

My favorite pick …

Make it two: tight end Adam Shaheen and running back Tarik Cohen. Both players face major jumps in competition after playing at small schools. It has seemingly been forgotten that the Bears did have needs on offense. They ranked 28th in scoring last year. They needed more firepower.

I have a phrase. ABAW. Always Be Adding Weapons. That’s how Ryan Pace approaches the draft and that, I believe, is the right approach. Are these guys the right weapons? Nobody knows.

When I look at it now the Cards got 2 tiny ass S now with honey b n Buddha baker. Ball-Hawks but definitely truckable . If Trub takes over Glennon I would be kinda bummed to not see Glennon work and also, leave me confused on the Return Policy regarding him. Can’t get paid for him if he never show him off.

    • Sahr Gborie

If Giraffe Neck plays well maybe we can get a 1st round for him like the Vikings. I’m not holding my breath though

      • Absolutely. If Glennon puts a good season together, then he’ll have a bigger resume than Jimmy G.

It was no secret the Browns were going after Jimmy G, so if the Pats still cock-block, well, here’s Glennon for a 1st and 3rd.

    • Lynch is no longer in that division, and Wilson is slowly turning into Brees slinging it to very fast WRs.

What the Cards are doing makes sense in their division.

That’s one of the reasons I preferred Hooker over Adams. Hooker was a true FS ballhawk which is more important when Vadgers and Lesbo are in your division.

Pace somewhate agreed. Jackson is a single-high FS in the Hooker mold. There to stop the pass, not run

Always gotta think of the division first.

  • Sahr Gborie

It’s going to take a while for me to warm up to this class. I had talked myself into going Defense and was not going to be happy with anything other than Defense.

    • SC Dave

Going defense has netted us one championship in the last 50+ years.

      • Sahr Gborie

Yes we have ignored offense for some time. However this was a loaded Defensive class. In a class loaded with defense and we went the opposite direction.

Even if you are ok with MItchell@3 because we need a home grown QB, how do you explain the rest of the draft?

Howard was the most complete TE in the 16&17 drat class. I pushed for him @3 but everyone except Oso said no but we take a project TE @2. wtf!?!

Im ok with the RB as a change of pace to Howard and as a returner.

Safety was a bigger need than TE. So why didn’t we take a safety with the 2nd pick. Budda Baker went 36. Obi Melifonwu went 56. How do you explain this?

Unless we plan to trade Grasu why did we take a C when we also have a stud in Cody.W? TE Jordan Leggett was still on the board. CB Desmond King was still on the board.

There are no Day1 starters in this class. This is the Project draft class. We will wait a year or 2 to see if it was any good unlike last year.

        • SC Dave

Pace wanted to build the offense. A simple an explanation as can be, but you seemingly don’t want to understand.

What center are you referring to, by the way?

          • willbest

I believe he is referring to the Guard Morgan. Perhaps he played Center for a year or two in college

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

He was only a LT in college. He was projected to be either a G or C at NFL level.

      • evantonio

Going defense got us Al Afalava.

        Have you forgotten Al Afalava?

    • I love that they went offense. Look at the talent on both sides of the ball and it was clear that was where more attention was needed, IMO.

Young studs like Goldman and Floyd already in place on D. Passing game had zero young studs (though Meredith and White could become that). Now they have a young QB, a young TE, a young scatback, plus the 2 WRs. Hopefully some of them pan out.

      • willbest

Goldman isn’t trending the right direction. Danny may never recover, and McPhee went from promising young up and coming talent to being the 4th best OLB on our roster behind Young and Acho.

        • Goldman had a lingering ankle problem all last year. Unless that becomes a recurring thing, I’m not worried.

          • Sahr Gborie

            You Sir are very optimistic

          • willbest

He had ankle issues in his rookie season, and also had an ankle issue at least one year in college.

          • AlbertInTucson

It is not often that I disagree with The Professor but, for me, Goldman has to show that he can stay on the field before he can be considered a plus for the defense.

      • Sahr Gborie

Yes we are lacking in the offense but this class had too many defensive stars to pass on. The obvious choice was defense. Even if not in the 1st at least the 2nd

OJ.Howard was the most complete TE in the 16&17 drat class. There were more polished TE in this class that played better competition and we took a project TE @2.
        wtf!?!

Im ok with the RB as a change of pace to Howard and as a returner.

Safety was a bigger need than TE. So why didn’t we take a safety with the 2nd
pick. Budda Baker went 36. Obi Melifonwu went 56. How do you explain
        this?

Unless we plan to trade Grasu why did we take a C when we
also have a stud in Cody.W? TE Jordan Leggett was still on the board. CB
Desmond King was still on the board.

        • willbest

The Saints O-line always favored a powerful interior. It is unsurprising that Pace finds that desirable. As for Grasu, he is fighting for a roster spot and knows it.

Leno, Massie, Long, Sitton, Whitehair are your starters. Kush and Compton are virtual locks. And Morgan gets you to 8. Teams don’t usually have the ability to carry more than 9 and we certainly won’t since we are going to carry 3 QBs on the 53.

          • Compton the swing OT?

          • willbest

That is what he was signed to be. They gave him an 850k signing bonus. Its not an insane amount of money, but it isn’t going to be easily flushed down the drain either.

        • Irish Sweetness

You had me at Yes ….

        • Irish Sweetness

This is not my other anagrammatically similar account .. Grab Hosier.

        • I personally would have taken Obi in round 2. And King in round 4 instead of the RB.

I’m just saying I understand the logic. The Bears didn’t have a RB who can catch passes out of the backfield or a TE who can both block and catch. Now they have guys they think can fill both those roles.

  • KentuckyBearsFan

Oh Christ…Jackson looked like he didn’t even break a sweat. Like it was practice.

  • KentuckyBearsFan

Are ALL of Mike Glennon’s pics online him with his mouth open looking like he only has two thoughts:
    “duh” and “uh” ?

    • SC Dave

No, only those that his detractors choose to point out.

    • BearDown100393

      Giraffes constantly chew

  • willbest

    1) Glennon knew the Bears were going to find a QB this year or next. His agent made sure he was paid enough that he was going to start this year

    2) My highlight reel against my 8 year old and his friend in basketball is pretty impressive too.

    • evantonio

Bet you still aren’t dunking, regardless of who the competition is.

      • willbest

The hell I am not! Its an 8 foot rim atm

        • evantonio

ah. well i’d say that’s the equivalent of D2 competition. so we’re good here.

    • I’m not worried about Glennon.

He gets his shot like Barkley did. Behind a decent Oline and ascending RB and get $18M +.

Lots of QBs would kill for that.

It’s all on him. He plays well enough he’ll make $100M in 2 yrs.

He flames out, well, see Barkley.

  • King of DBB

    NFL writer DJ Gallo:

“The Bears had the worst draft anyone can remember. They bet that farm on a QB nobody was that enthusiastic about. Then they took a second mortgage on the house and a reverse mortgage on the summer home to get him. If he does not shine the team is set back YEARS. People are already talking about this trade in the same tones that the Herschel Walker trade is spoken of. ”

    • 1) There were several teams who were enthusiastic about Trubisky. That was well documented.
      2) The actual cost of that trade was relatively cheap compared to most QB trades.
      3) Any team that gambles on a QB that high and misses is set back years. Typically 3 years, because that’s when they finally admit defeat and move on. It’s the nature of the business.
      4) The net effect of the setback (after trading back in rd 2) was losing a 3rd round pick this year and moving next year’s 3rd round pick to a 4th rounder instead. Meh.

You can argue against the Bears draft, there are decent points to make, but at least don’t have your entire argument be based on incorrect assumptions.

      • Irish Sweetness

        “That was well documented.”

Where? If it’s not document from KC or CLE then it holds no weight.

        • BearDown100393

According to the 49ers and Pace.

          • Irish Sweetness

Exactly. Lynch lies, and Pace has to believe.

          • BearDown100393

            Yup

          • SC Dave

and we’re expected to believe you, just because you say so.

          • Yeah, but look at the circumstantial evidence. Both the Chiefs and Texans moved up for a QB. FACT.
This shows teams were making calls to move up for QBs.
I have no doubt both CLE and NYJs were bidding.

Pace was trying to keep his Trub love under wraps exactly because he didn’t want to get into a bidding war, but it didn’t work.

        • It was well known CLE wanted Trubisky as their QB1. NYJ at 6 too.

          • AlbertInTucson

I admit, I have heard reports that Browns owner, Haslem, was hot for Trubisky.

I’ve also heard that the history of trading UP to draft a QB is not a good one.

            Have research that.

      • AlbertInTucson

I, for one, would like to see some that documentation.

    • Sahr Gborie

      2017 3rd for their 2nd,
      2017 third-round pick (No. 67),
      2017 fourth-round pick (No. 111 overall)
      2018 third-round pick.

You Sir a full of it. This is not even close to H.Walker. We barely gave up anything for Mitchell. Basically 3 pick. Even if he does not work out we now have a backup QB. Obviously not the best outcome.

      • King of DBB

History will show DJ Gallo was prescient and you to be the shit slinger

        • Scharfinator

I mean anyone named DJ Gallo sounds legit to me.

          • evantonio

Did you say Gallo? DJ Gallo’s dead!

            It’s Callo.

            With a C.

          • leftcoast dave

            Yea, you blend.

    • willbest

We lost a pair of 3rd rounders. 4th rounders are crap shoots, don’t really care about that one.

Two 3rd rounders basically translates into a 10% chance of finding a pro-bowl level talent. Jags and glue guys are available in free agency, and for not much more than you have to pay a 3rd rounder pick.

The being set back YEARS comes from having to give Trubisky 2 years as a starter which is going to take place after Glennon gets his shot. So yeah if Trubisky isn’t the answer then we aren’t going to do much until 2020. But that is true of every QB. Is Jameis Winston the answer in Tampa? Bortles in Jax. Goff in LA, Wentz in Philly. Any time you address the QB position you are setting your team up for a lot of pain unless you are fortunate enough to sign Peyton Manning. And the Donks still lucked out on that. What if Peyton fell apart after 1.5 seasons instead of 2.8 seasons like he did?

      • Irish Sweetness

        A pair of 3rds and a 4th is a 2nd. He pissed a 2nd away that didn’t need to be.

        • SC Dave

no, its a pair of thirds and a fourth

          • leftcoast dave

No, it’s a third, a fourth and next year’s third which equals a fourth.

          • SC Dave

How does that differ from a pair of thirds and a fourth?

    • CanadaBear

Jesus Christ I know unstable women that shriek less than that douchebag. Comparing it to the HW trade? Really? 2 3rds and a 4th are a little shy of 3 firsts, 2 seconds and a 3rd.

    • SC Dave

what a waste of air Gallo is.

    • Who the heck is DJ Gallo?

A Mexico City DJ who spins electronic-banda but also decided to become a football writer after he watched one game last season when the Raiders visited.

  • Big Mike

Our man, Pace, did not get fleeced. http://sportsmockery.com/2017/05/details-of-bears-trubisky-trade-surface-with-awesome-war-room-story/
Last time a team moved up one spot to draft a QB they gave up nearly 2,000 “points”. Pace gave up less than 600 Points.

    • shhh, nobody wants these damn facts. Alternative facts are much more fun.

    • Tortured Bear fan

rigth!! and could be less if team will get a compensatory pick by Jeffery´s departure.

      • unlikely. Jeffery didn’t sign a huge, long-term deal with lots of guaranteed money and the Bears spent far more money in FA than they lost with Jeffery.

They might get a late pick for losing him, but not likely a high one.

      • SC Dave

not a factor. that would happen regardless of who we picked or traded

        • Tortured Bear fan

          damn!!

    • That’s what I was saying over the weekend.
Hey, this may not be my plan, or your plan, but it’s a plan, and not a crazy one.

Like I said, if you’re gonna * bitch about mitch (copright pending), then do it on football grounds, not draft-capital arguments like an accountant.

      • Big Mike

I remember “winning the draft”, after Trestman’s first year and shitting the bed, the sofa, our pants etc. These instant analysts are of course going to jump on the guy that flew in the face of convention. It riles their audience.

“The thing to read today is Monday Morning Quarterback, because Peter King was inside the 49ers’ draft room as they swapped picks with the Bears for a random, and still took the player they didn’t dare hope they’d get. The Niners’ draft board went Myles Garrett, Solomon Thomas, and then, kind of shockingly, Reuben Foster.”

      BOOM!

      • MB30SD

you’re also the only one shocked about foster… well you and LCD who thinks hard tackling is a bad think in football. jesus.

Just watch the kid’s highlight tape… or shit, just the Nat champ game dude. tape don’t lie. he JUMPS off the screen. Even in the biggest game in college football, he was a man among boys.

        • willbest

To have him #3 though means you don’t think he is going to go some Aldon Smith, Greg Hardy route.

          • MB30SD

yeah, he’s a personal issues gamble… but as far as being a football player, he’s a fucking beast that pops off the screen.

I agree though, at 3 it would have been a big gamble. I think SF pulled off an amazing draft. almost perfect.

    • SC Dave

The internet sure is wonderful for enabling confirmation bias.

  • King of DBB

    Trib headline today

Glennon gets blindsided before even taking the field

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

oh no! did he fumble? If he didn’t fumble we are going to be ok. We don’t need someone that fumbles everytime they take a hit.

    • Irish Sweetness

      Blindsided.

I wish someone would give me an 18 million dollar blindside tackle.

      • leftcoast dave

I just love laughing at all of the “woulda, coulda, shoulda, so and so says this, blah, blah, blah, sucks to be a Bear fan, yada, yada, yada, whine, whine, whine.” Paying “the Giraffe” (how condescendingly infantile) was dumb, Fox sucks but now it’s a problem if there is a rift, blah, blah, blah.

        Fan is derived from fanatic.

        Life sucks, spew shit.

Yep, Pace gave Glenny 18m and showed him respect instead of playing the rug merchant with him. Glenny is being treated well, as are all the FA’s Pace hires. Nice place to come play, just ask Sitton.

  • King of DBB

So this Fox Pace feud is shaping up to get worse. Pace wants some asst coach from the Saints in and is setting the stage for Fox to have a disasterous season.

This is pretty much as embarrassing for Chicago and the team as when Trestman had Aaron Kramer leak shit about Jay and end up having to resign in a weepy melodrama that made him look like even a bigger schmuck.

This is on par with that debacle.

    • BearDown100393

You will be told there is no feud. Everything is fine.

    • willbest

No. Pace didn’t choose Fox. Emery/cryptkeeper/kromer/Cutler all walked hand in hand into 2014 singing kumbaya

      • willbest

        err.. 2014

    • Irish Sweetness

Fox looked very uncomfortable at the presser beside Pace.

    • CanadaBear

You’re taking somebody’s word that this is true. I’m not sure Jason LaConfora (SP) is all that trustworthy. Not to mention, who cares if weekend at bernies gets launched. Pace is doing what any GM would do. He was stuck with Cutler, cut him as soon as he could and got two people to replace him hoping one works out. Doesn’t seem all that devious to me.

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Jason LaConfora (SP) is a hack.

        • King of DBB

Every writer who says something Da Blog doesn’t like is a hack.

Who ISN’T a hack? What media outlet would you buy into?

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

have you read his stuff, he says a lot of stupid shit about a lot of teams.

          • King of DBB

Again, who is a reputable source? Rappaport? King? Showtime Inside The NFL?

Where do you read something and say “yeah, ok”

Hub? 670 has it’s balls cut off.
Haugh? Everyone hates Haugh but at least he will take the hard shots at Halas and ownership.

Biggsy? Biggsy gets too in the weeds, and his scoops. He also conflates ice cream scoops with journalism scoops and then his lactose intolerance kicks in and it’s an unpleasant scene.

Doomer? Doomer is chicken little, and most of his articles are opinion based not fact based.

Jahns? The kid is what, 30? 31? He’s too early in his career in Chicago to start taking hard stands against the Bears. This town remembers what happened to Chet Coppick once he started being in love with his opinions. Or Mike North. Or Dan King. A whole litany of guys who got frozen out once they started taking swings at the jaw of the local sports clubs. It didn’t help that Coppick and North were drunks.

La Canfora quoted (albeit anonymously) real NFL GMs and Head Scouts.

ALL OF THEM OUTSIDE HALAS SAY THE SAME THING. Which is: what the FUCK are those guys doing?

That’s bad. That is like when Chucky called Trestman out on MNF and basically said Trestman was no longer able to get his team ready to play and the Bears were an embarassment. I don’t see how this is not on par with that.

          • willbest

Sports media isn’t any different than the rest of the media. They get stuck on a narrative. Its really hard to shit all over Pace’s draft when his first 4 picks were going to get drafted anyway. Just not necessarily that high and not all by the same team.

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

take it easy. I am just saying I don’t like La Canfora. He flip flops his narratives too much, and often says stupid shit he can’t back up. And I am not referring to what he says about the Bears, but all teams.

  • King of DBB

Pace’s logic cannot be faulted when seen through the prism of a self interested corporate politic stooge

He wants to save his skin
He knows this is another 3-13 season with Fox at the helm, even if he added Myles Garrett
He wants to get more of his Saints buddies into top spots where they will be loyal to him
    What to do?
Bet the farm on a QB and push him off
Pace will get a contract renewal and 4 years to see how this plays out
Time enough to stack the org with his boys and weather the storm in 2020

It’s great self preservation on his part

Just sucks to be a fan

    • MB30SD

it’s def a possible track. And yes, it’s sucked to be a bears fan for a while now.

    • BearDown100393

I dunno. A lot of booyah types seem content.

    • willbest

Pace’s contract is 5 years long. He isn’t up for renewal until after 2019. Fox is the perfect patsy for him. Fox will play Glennon. That is 2017. His new HC and QB hit the field in 2018. So George has to decide if he is going to have a lame duck GM heading into his new QB and HC’s sophomore season. Pace ends up with a 2 or 3 year extension just on default.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

there is that farm again. Pace must not value that farm very much.

  • leftcoast dave

Who cares about Glennon? Seriously? How silly.

Pace was criticized for overpaying Glennon. Does Glennon want his shot? Of course. Did he think he would never get competition as the starter? He came out of his draft contract to a nice new contract, will be well paid, will get his shots and might prove to be “the guy” and possibly traded to another team in need. Whatever the case, the decks were essentially cleared with the exception of Sanchez as the teacher and Glennon has been and will be treated well.

Otherwise, how do you sign future FA?

  • Irish Sweetness

    Jahns giving full head.

That return by Jackson up above was nice.

    • MB30SD

I’m telling you (again), if his leg is 100% HE will be the steal of this draft not some D2 TE who can’t block… but is slow.

      • Irish Sweetness

        So he can block? Sweet.

        • MB30SD

no he’s a safety… he can INT and pass defend.

          The TE can’t block.

  • willbest

My memory of 2009 sports media landscape in Chicago is vague. Did they work themselves up into this much of a tizzy when Angelo pulled the trigger on Jay Cutler in a move that really did bet the franchise on him because they gave away 2 firsts?

I hope they are all big enough to go “Yeah I was wrong, there is a reason Pace makes $3+ million a year to do his job and I make $30k a year to write about him doing his job.

    “DaBearsBlog @dabearsblog
    Glennon was a smokescreen.”

$16M smokescreen huh? Buuuuuuullshit. Jeff, you are sounding more and more ridiculous on all of this man. Businesses don’t do that, at least well run, smart, strategi….

…wait, never mind. You’re probably right.

    • Irish Sweetness

He’s no smoke-screen for year one. He’s the starting QB. Mitch would get eaten alive by an NFL defense. He’s getting paid for that. They want to start Mitch next season after? they trade Glennon, who hopefully played well enough to warrant a 2nd rounder.

      • MB30SD

If he plays well enough to garner a 2, pace would be an idiot to get rid of him.

        • Sahr Gborie

why? if you trust pace and his judgment regarding talent then he should be able to find another qb to groom will getting a 2nd for giraffe neck

      • Ososfan

Irish, spitting that straight fire knowledge!!!

    • King of DBB

Glennon is a way that Pace can justify not starting Biscuit. Or even bothering with the pressure to do so if they start losing, since he has Sanchize in there in case Glennon breaks his giraffe leg.

And by not starting him, he can “develop” him and buys himself not one, but close to TWO extra years to say how this turns out. And so his contract will be up and Pace can renew just as some hope might be coming along.

It’s shrewd. Pace can always point to the fact that Rodgers sat behind Farve for two years.

I fully expect to hear that line sometime in the future out of Westworld’s mouth.

      • MB30SD

it wouldn’t shock me, let’s put it that way

        • Yeah, I was thinking about that with my friends. Most of them are married.
My best bud went out with a chick he met at a club. They went out for like 1 yr, knocked her up, got married. He was only like 20. Stats would say bad bad move, but they’re still married. Oldest just graduated HS last yr.

But that’s not always the case. My other friend got married after about 6 months, and that lasted like one month lol I told him NOT to do it, but he did it anyways.

Guess it depends on the girl, couple’s value, situation, etc

A lot like with QBs succeeding or not. Never know. Hard to quantify.

      • Yeah, but Pace could’ve avoided QB altogether this year (in the draft), and the fans would’ve been ok with that.

Then Fox and gang flame out, and Pace has the perfect set up.

in 2018 a new regime and maybe new QB and he gets 3 years from then on.

If anything drafting QB this year was an extremely risky gamble by Pace.

Trub will almost have to start in 2018, and not just start, but be good.

If he had waited, he could’ve bought himself an extra year.

        • MB30SD

If anything drafting QB this year was an extremely risky gamble by Pace.

          yep

          • Yeah, I read what you wrote in the last thread, how it’s extremely risky, and you wouldn’t have done it.
            Neither would I.
I would’ve been ok with a Hoyer-Shaw-Peterman combo while churning the roster for 2018.

But hey, Pace was more aggressive. Fuck it.

Some ppl get married after only going out for like 6 months.
I would never, but more power to them if they make it work.

          • MB30SD

wonder what the success numbers are on those types of marriages.

Like pace is playing the diametric opposite of moneyball.

        • willbest

Could he risk Fox going 7-9 and ending up with say #14 though. How many teams are going to trade away Andrew Luck caliber QB’s? Like 7-8? And how likely are they to be drafting in the top 5?

          • Exactly. It was part of the Pacebots calculations.

            1. Assumes the bubonic plague won’t take out half the team.
            2. Believes Glennon superior to Cargo
            3. Overall improved except maybe WR (TBD)

Ergo, better season, lower draft position.

            Additional variables.

            1. Which team ends up with the #1
            2. Their willingness to even give up on Darnold and Co.
            3. Price for said franchise (will be MUUUUUCH more than 3s)

            Pacebot algorithmic concluded…Trub

    • BearDown100393

Glennon is a smokescreen for Trubisky.
And Trubisky is a smokescreen for Glennon.
It is a lot of smoke.

There is almost NO WAY that a REAL GM could not have gotten Trubisky at 3.

      lol

    • MB30SD

      jake locker… blain gabbert.

      hee hee

      • Could be, but I think Trub has less questions that either.

I always say that it’s important for a college QB to complete 68% or higher cuz those windows are only going to shrink in the NFL.

Locker never hit higher than 58% in college. YUGE red flag. He also took off running instead of looking to pass (Watson?) which is exactly the opposite of why Pace said he liked Trub (keeps his eyes down field while extending the play)

“Weaknesses Does not show the ability to consistently make his progressions and find the open man. Misses on too many throws and his accuracy can be erratic at times. Abandons the pass early and relies too much on his feet. Plays a bit recklessly and has missed a lot of games due to injury. ”

        http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/jake-locker?id=2495194

Gabbert also struggled with completion % having a college career 60% rate.
But the bigger issue with Gabbert was that he was a pussy and was/is unwilling to take that hit for the big throw.

“Weaknesses Trusts his arm too much and puts the ball in harm’s way too often. Does not show good touch on passes over the middle and needs to learn to take a little velocity off certain throws. Struggles to throw an accurate deep ball. Late feeling pressure at times which neutralizes his very good mobility. Will need to learn a pro style offense.”

Needless to say, both Locker and Gabbert also needed to learn an NFL O and got thrown into the fire.

This doesn’t mean Trub won’t crash and burn, but IMO he is def more polished than those two.

For the sake of fairness, these are Trubs weaknesses (It should be noted that the weaknesses are longer cuz NFL profiles in general are now more thorough).

Weaknesses Almost 98 percent of his dropbacks came from shotgun. Will have to learn NFL footwork from under center which could take time. Benefits from offense loaded with RPOs (run-pass option) that pull linebackers forward and open easier throwing windows. Played in space-based passing attack that didn’t often ask him to throw to tight windows in traffic. Arm slot will drop way down causing batted balls at line of scrimmage. Too willing to float balls rather than air-mailing them out of bounds when he’s making a bail-out throw against pressure. Needs better drive accuracy between the hashes. Has a tendency to leave throws in hip pocket of moving targets. Inconsistent deep ball touch. Has touchdown opportunities he babies and invites defenders time to recover. Not always pocket aware. Hyper-focuses on shifting parts down the field and can be late to feel
        pressure collapsing the edges.

Center. Wtf is wrong with Grasu?

  • Signing Cohen might signal some spread-option O with Trub in the future.

Cohen’s stop and go acceleration would fit perfectly with that.

Howard from the I battering that D like a Ram.
Cohen in the read on special downs when the D is bruised and gassed.

The one thing I did like about Gase is that he used that read selectively w Cargo and it seemed to work.

Trub is about as athletic and younger, so maybe Birdcage brings some of that back in sub-packages.

    • BerwynBomber

Gase, indeed, was the goods. Turned Cutty into a 90 PR guy for a year. (Though whether Cutty as Alex Smith would have been sustainable is another matter.)

Gase had a lot of positive effect on Cutty. Remember seeing Cutty climb the pocket that year? Best pocket navigation he ever had with us.

Of course Gase receiving praise immediately threatened the Cutlerites, including Jeff. “It’s not Gase making Cutler look good, it is Cutler making Gase look good!” Yeah, sure it is.

Btw, wonder if Cutty could ultimately end up as MIA’s back-up. Wouldn’t be surprised. Fales is on their roster.

      • willbest

Cutty is fairly consistently a 90ish PR guy. Its his QBR that goes from 40-70 in any given year.

        • BerwynBomber

He’s had one 90+ PR year his entire career. The Gase year.

          • willbest

Is there an appreciable difference between 88 and 92 in PR?

          • BerwynBomber

Yes. That’s why 88 is not rounded up to 92.

Or think back to school. That’s why a C+ is different from a C.

          • willbest

No but both 88 and 92 are rounded to 90.

          • BerwynBomber

And btw, Cutty was more often than not below 88 as a Bear.

That’s why his career PR is 85.

      • BearDown100393

Without Jay, Gase isn’t a head coach.

      • Irish Sweetness

        Curious logic.

Cutty turns the corner in year 10 – as per the Elway effect, which is now a thing.

Cause of turnaround is immediately attributed to an external force, not Cutty himself, who is the key to changing either himself or his actions.

        Interesting.

The downside of this is I will have to learn a whole new list of nobodies when Fuller sprains his labia and prince gets hurt, and Hall is dealing with an ingrown toenail and Callahan is out with a concussion.

“DaBearsBlog @dabearsblog Glennon was a smokescreen.”

Was it? Or was it further indication of GM/HC conflict and/or POX dysfunction?

Never thought signing Glennon ruled out us drafting a QB at #3, but also assumed it meant we would either draft one in R2 or later or even kick the can down the road for another year.

The Glennon/Trubisky moves suggest a GM/HC not on the same page; specifically, Glennon was for Fox, Trub for Pace. Reminds me of the much reported efforts of Pace to land the TEN/Mariota pick a couple of years ago. Couldn’t imagine Fox was on board with that.

I wasn’t screaming for Fox’s head after last year — I thought the injuries bought him another year (though I also would have been fine had they let him go). But now it seems a third year of Fox will be an exercise in redundancy.

Of course this all goes back to the notion that Acorsi chose Fox or had Pace choose Fox for him.

    • MB30SD

Acorsi has proven to be a total buffoon. jesus. WTF does phillips even have a job to do???

Now that the draft is over, this has to be the most incompetent, poorly run PR org in all of football. So you bring the baby giraffe along to watch you draft Gomer Pyle. Then you trot Gomer out at the Bulls game to a standing ovation of boos. You then blitz every social media platform to tout the unknown TE from the Devry Of Phoenix Technical Institute all while being mocked mercilessly by your own fans. I don’t think you could design a worse PR campaign if you tried.

      • Bender McLugh

        Dumb, agreed

  • Johnnywad

I can’t believe any of you fellas thought Glennon was gonna be THE answer. He’s essentially on a one year deal. I don’t even imagine HE thought he was the answer. You need somebody there to man the transition that isn’t named Matt Barkley. Pace got a low level starter that seems to be a good dude to play for a season, or most of one, before turning it over to the kid. What the hell is wrong with that?

Call it a one year audition for a fucking shit ton of money. I’m sure he’s feeling just fine.

    • BearDown100393

What does 1 year of Glennon provide that another season from Jay does not?

      • BerwynBomber

Upside. Even if the drafting of Trubisky dilutes most of what little potential there was for it.

      • Johnnywad

A clean slate. And the possibility of league mentorship.

        • MB30SD

          Gloooorious clean slate!!!!

        • BearDown100393

            Yes.

Edit: The transition in Tampa Bay seemed to go pretty well.

          • BerwynBomber

One other possibility — as far-fetched as it seems now — is if Glennon plays well (but they’re deadest on starting Trub in ’18), then Glennon can be unloaded for mid-round pick or something.

          • BearDown100393

Giraffe will be the new Jimmy G. 1st round picks.

          • CanadaBear

Try to imagine Cargo sticking around and mentoring the Kid.

(Cut to Cargo, wearing khakis, no shirt, ciggy out of the side of his mouth, grilling burgers on the sideline at training camp.)

Cargo: you must be the FNG
    Biscuit: morning sir
Cargo: do not address me, son, there are god damn reporters all around this area and they love to grease a starter. what’s the matter with your lips?
Biscuit: I was born with big gums sir
Cargo: You better tuck that in. gonna get that caught on a blocking sled

  • BearDown100393

“I think the best thing about free agency is if we can address some of our needs,
again, it opens up the draft for best player available. And then when we
do that it’s just increasing our odds (of success). … We’re going to
take the best player at every pick so it could (impact where we draft a
quarterback). Again, we have a lot of confidence in Mike Glennon and
we’re excited he’s here. It opens things up.” – Ryan Pace

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/ct-bears-ryan-pace-mike-glennon-20170310-story.html

    • BearDown100393

So in Pace’s own words, Mitch Trubisky was the best player available at the #2 pick.

      • Of course Pace is gonna say that.

He’s not gonna say “Trubisky was the 12th best player in the draft but teams always have to reach for QBs”

It would be like the POTUS saying,”Democracy? Plz. We live in an oligarchical plutocracy at best”.

        We all know the deal.

        • willbest

I am with JWood though. Given how important the QB position is. If you are 50/50 Matt Ryan/Blaine Gabbert then that is more important than being 100% certain you have JJ Watt.

Now if they ever go back to letting the CB’s cover the WRs, that would change, but this is the modern NFL.

          • For me, it’s case by case, year by year.

Like, you can’t say “Kizer should’ve gone #2 cuz history says one of these top 5 QBs will pan out”

Trubisky was the one QB I could live with at #3 or #2.

I would’ve been much more skeptical with Watson, and Mahomes would’ve been in a disaster in Chicago.

            But you’re right.

            AbAvgQb>HOFerDefender

            That’s Goodell ball.

Back in the days when you could hurt QBs it became important to have a complete team in case he went down.

Now, QB goes down, and season is essentially over for 99% of teams.

Gone are the days when Fuller can step in and beat the Cowboys 44-0.

  • Sactowns#1

Another thought. We will have an all female Whitehouse (President and VP) before we see a black QB in Chicago. Sad to say, because its a great city, but it’s also a pretty damn racist city.

Its interesting that you somehow think that Black QB is somehow a bridge to far for a team that has a black coach and a city that has a black mayor. Its also the consensus that Trubisky was the best QB in this draft. The only hate seems to be on Pace trading up to get him. Not that he drafted him over another QB

      • Sactowns#1

I certainly have an issue with Mr. 13 starts being drafted ahead of a national champion winner.

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

        • Malice Halice

D.Watson won cuz its savages on his squad. I would’ve taken him as well. but given the fact we dealt wit cutty INT-in-the-4th-quarter-with-3min-remaining ass I don’t want no parts in a guy that threw up what 17 int’s or some shit like that? I rather take trubz who got a better pass %

          • Yup. The allure of Trub is his low int rate.
That’s what made many like Mariotta too.

When the INTs are single digits, that shows good decision making, and decision making is like 80% of the QB position.

        • BearDown100393

Jay was better than either Luckman and McMahon. That is based on nothing but bias toward Cargo.

          • Sactowns#1

Sid- In 1943, as soon as the season had ended, Luckman volunteered as an ensign with the U. S. Merchant Marine. He was stationed stateside and while he could not practice with the team, he did receive permission to play for the Bears on game days during the following seasons. He returned again to the Bears, as a full-time occupation, in 1946 and led them to a fifth NFL championship.

Cam Newton, Jameis Winston both #1 picks. A team mortgaged their future for RG3. Wilson wins out against Flynn. Dak displaces Tony Romo. Hoodie thought Brissett has/had a future in the NFL. I think the NFL is largely past skin color at the QB position. Its can you make the throws, and can you run through your reads before you decide to out athlete everybody.

        • Malice Halice

Cam is da only exception. Winston coming up tho. Wilson n Dak r hybrids bro so i don’t count them ( I’m darkskinned we think like that) but i agree. Watson a stud i just feel he’s more college based than the pro’s. I’ve learned since Vick that runner-based QB’s aint shit.

          • willbest

It can work in the right system. But it doesn’t seem to last more than a few years. On the one hand that is ideal for football since player careers aren’t that long. But on the other hand lucking into a Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers for the next 15 years allows you to be competitive with a rather mediocre front office.

          • Malice Halice

true, there hasn’t been no black pocket QB (that i know of) to hit the nil. All of those guys will dash with the quickness. Cam learned to adapt after yr 2, Winston has, rg3 couldn’t, Wilson HAS to run, Tyrod adapted somewhat, Dak has a great o-line, Vick never adapted, Tavaris and Vince fuckin sucked. Mcnabb adapted, i was too young to witness McNair. and Daunte had Moss. and what Mcnabb, Moon are the only elk ab’s to last 10yrs i believe. black QB’s don’t last long at all.

          • Malice Halice

elk abs hahaha meant 2b blk qb’s

          • SC Dave

Warren Moon is still hands down the best black QB in my book.

He was fucking top-shelf, and his numbers prove it.

          • Agreed. And sucks he had to play in Canada to even get a chance.

There really was prejudice before about the “middle positions” (S, MLB, QB) since those positions typically are more cerebral, but now that’s pretty much disappeared.

If you can sling the ball, doesn’t matter. They care more about background/foundation than race now.

          • leftcoast dave

            “Racism is rampant.”

            Ok, define “racism”.

Many say only white people can be “racist” because unless you have “white privilege”, your prejudice, which might lead to, say, battery, rape, mutilation or murder, is not “racist”.

          • Irish Sweetness

Who is afforded ‘white privilege’ though?

I have more in common with blacks than I do whites, culturally. I don’t come from an Imperial, colonizing background. Quite the opposite.

I would enjoy emptying both barrels on anyone that ever suggested I, or any other Irish person had ‘white privilege’. I would point out that we had been enslaved for 800 years – for twice as long as the blacks – also sent away on slave ships, but without the protection of being property. We were killed like vermin.

Racism is rampant in black comedy. I see it. I don’t suffer from ‘white guilt’ so I can point the finger and call them on their bullshit. White comics are so cowed and afraid of the slightest suspicion they may offend a minority.

Of course blacks can be racist. It’s people that are racist. And to separate a group into sub-groups that could or couldn’t be racist based on color … is racist.

          • Cubsnlinux

            This.

There is a new “World’s Best Mountain Climber”.

That’s because the OLD “World’s Best…” fell 3200+ feet while training near Everest over the weekend.

His body WAS recovered and there will be an autopsy.

    3200 foot fall.

    Wonder what killed him?

    • MB30SD

      gravity.

      • AlbertInTucson

I can almost hear the Medical Examiner now:

“It wasn’t the fall. It was the sudden stop.”

        • MB30SD

          exactly.

man, 3200 ft… they must have needed quite a few dessert spoons to get all of him. yikes!

My only issue is who is paying for the body recovery or with skiers, hikers, climbers, etc., who’s paying to rescue them? I think all of these people need to carry insurance for search and rescue. Otherwise, call your friends and family and have them look. Don’t mean to be harsh but you should have to pay to play.

    • Sahr Gborie

Exactly. First you got dumped for J.Winston and now you are about to get dumped for M.Trubisky. Giraffe Neck needs to carry a chip on his shoulder bigger than the one Atlas had on his back.Let the youngster know that he is not going down without a fight because if he loses in camp (to a rook with 13 starts in college) his career is over.

  • Irish Sweetness
  • Irish Sweetness

Packers cut Christine Michael. Yes please!

    • Why? He’s been in the NFL for 6 years and has been “good” enough to be cut 7x now.

Why on Earth would you want that on your roster? Bears have plenty of RB depth.

      • Irish Sweetness

Plenty? No. Barely any worth discussing.

Not a lot of miles on Michael. The engine is good. 5’10, 220. Nice. We don’t have much size behind Jordan.

        • They have 3 guys they’ve invested draft picks in who are currently not slated to start. Granted none of them are proven (just as Michael isn’t), but some combo of 2 of them are going to be Chicago’s 2/3 backs, barring some surprise.

        • Michael is the ultimate cock tease, Irish. You should know this as an FF player. He’s the Cargo of RBs.

He SHOULD be great. Teams keep giving him chances to be great.

He never is, and now, like Cargo, rightfully unemployed.

    • Sahr Gborie

We are no longer accepting an new applicants for RB. Check back in a few years

      • Irish Sweetness

We don’t have Jordan 2.0 in case of injury.

        • willbest

Dude the Lions and Packers went to the playoffs last year without anything that resembled a running game. Hoodie goes to the playoffs every year and they discard RBs the way porn stars discard condoms. There is a reason the position gets no respect any more. Its not critical.

          • Irish Sweetness

How’d that work out for them?

Saying a running attack isn’t critical is nonsense. You control the clock and keep your defense off the field and rested.

          • willbest

It worked out to the NFCC. How did Dallas fair with their monster run game? How did we do?

          • Bender McLugh

HAHAHAHA what in thee fuck? You used the Pats as an example of a team that doesn’t have a critical running game?

Good lord, will, do some research

          • willbest

No I used them as a team that doesn’t care about running backs. And they don’t. They let them all walk.

          • Yup. Jonas Gray rushed for 200 yds. He fumbled next week.
            Cut the following week.

That’s right, the Pats cut a 200 yd/game rusher (only the 3rd in Pat’s history) 2 weeks after and kept rolling.

      • Big Mike

I’ve been saying all along, Pace got his guy. Didn’t get fleeced, he has a plan. (don’t agree with it), but the Bears aren’t just making shit up and reacting. Kudo’s to Pace and team for executing their slight of hand, getting their guy, getting their picks (mostly back) and NOT overpaying. But based on what I think I know, I’d have taken Solomon Thomas and then then OBIE

        • MB30SD

Me too, although I think I take budda instead of obi

        • Sahr Gborie

A.Hodge – Pace doesn’t plan on drafting at No. 3 ever again and he didn’t want to miss out on the opportunity to get his quarterback. As recently as last week, I was using the Glennon signing as a reason why I didn’t think the Bears would draft a quarterback in the first round. Signing Glennon wasn’t a smokescreen, but it certainly contributed to the smokescreen. It worked on me, and it worked on John Lynch too.

If this draft works out for Pace the hate around the league for him will get a lot stronger

          • Big Mike

You think? I was thinking the other way around. But, guess how many fucks I give about that if this works out ROFL

          • Sahr Gborie

            For sure I think so.
1 – If it works out, he just outsmarted 31 other GM’s. You know their ego’s don’t like that. Plus hes one of the youngest GM’s in the league.

2 – Even if it does not work out the fact that they could not get a read on him makes him dangerous. I can just imagine that somewhere in Foxborough the Hoodie is smiling

          • Big Mike

HOODIE!!! I’ve got to put the Bears away for a bit. I’ve got my own coaching challenge. Running an o-line/d-line clinic for middle school coaches.

          • Ososfan

I think Pace is the youngest still. Legit though of Hoodie when Pace was doing all these moves man, Bill took players from small town schools too and no one bats an eye. Derek Rivers (their 3 round pick with first round talent) will be trouble I think DROY…

          • Ososfan

            Gold comment right there, BM!

          • Sahr Gborie

SAVAGE. Best scenario is for Giraffe Neck to win us the SB or at least play well enough that we can trade him for a 1st or 2nd and have Mitchell take over

          • Ososfan

I had a feeling they were going to draft a QB. But, never that early haha. I really, really, really like Glennon and hopefully shows the org he should stay for 2 out of his 3 years here.

    • Sahr Gborie

Just read it Mike. First point makes a lot of sense.

the most important takeaway from the lengthy piece was this: like everyone else, the 49ers were guessing too. John Lynch thought the Bears were trading up for Solomon Thomas. If that was the case, he was willing to draft Reuben Foster at No. 3, who he ended up getting at No. 31. So that’s how close Lynch was to severely over-drafting a player with injury/character concerns. He ended up with Thomas and Foster and deserves credit for that, but this notion that a rookie GM outsmarted Pace is completely flawed. Lynch was guessing and got lucky.

      • Big Mike

You are correct. My take was Pace got his guy. Did everything he could, deception, misdirection etc to keep the price down. Then he went and jumped back and forth on the draft board to A) Get picks back and B) move up to get guys he liked. The move for the safety from Alabama, could be this years Howard pick. (or it could be one of the two safeties they drafted last year. Hall and Bush?

        • Sahr Gborie

Pace – “It equated to giving up a little bit more
than a third round pick in our trade for Mitch (Trubisky), so I felt
          good about that.”

Loved this bit from the article – There are a lot of egos in the NFL and I believe some of the backlash Pace received — including from the “anonymous” league executives — was a result of him catching everyone off guard with a move no one predicted.

          • Big Mike

All they have to react to, is the reaction vs what they expected would happen. YAK, YAK, YAK

          • leftcoast dave

Deondre Hall is the dude. Because of his length, not a lock down corner on a long field but was tested on the short field on one game in solo coverage on a fade into the end zone and he batted the ball away each time. He’s freakish long and I think he will be a great FS.

          • Big Mike

That’s nice to hear. How does he pair up with the kid we drafted? I thought that guy was a FS stud (if his broken leg heals up right). Put one of them in as the Slot Corner?

      • Big Mike

Probably has a contracts guy. Not that big a deal. Contract structure for rookies is cookie cutter.

        • willbest

Well the 5th year option is strategic though. It allows you to control a player for an extra year. Basically, you should never take a QB at the top of the 2nd if you can give up a 4th to take him at the bottom of the first. Arguably the same with OT or pass rusher as well.

      • BearDown100393

        I knew that

    • That’s what I’ve been saying. The universe reads da blog!

Pace went into 007 mode to keep his Trub-luv under wraps so that he would NOT have to compete to trade up, and he may have succeeded in duping the Browns who highly coveted Trub. They had the ammo to get him at #2 as well, perhaps the only team that could outgun us.

The Browns were the mark, and he gamed them. You think Hugh Jackson wanted Kizer in the 2nd? Fuck no. When other teams began jumping up for QBs, that was that.

It’s all on Trub now. Either this will go down as the draft the Bears stole Derrick Carr from under the mouthbreathing 9ers, Browns, Jets, or it’ll go down as the draft the Bears traded up for Ponder.

      • Big Mike

Traded up for Ponder with Kirk Cousins already on the team. 🙂

      • MB30SD

Bears making moves for a franchise QB… what could possibly go wrong?!?

should be interesting to see it all play out regardless.

        • If the latter, ALL these guys should be terminated and flogged at Solider Field.

“Understand this: Trubisky was not just Pace’s No. 1 quarterback. He was also the No. 1 quarterback for director of player personnel Josh Lucas, director of college scouting Mark Sadowski, national scout Ryan Kessenich, area scout Chris Prescott and offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains. Pace did not go rogue with the Bears’ pick. There was unanimous approval among those who get paid to make these draft
          decisions.”

    Bug Howard

Size and hands are by far Howard’s best attributes. He’s 6-4 and 221 pounds, which makes him one of the bigger receivers in this year’s draft. He also dropped just four passes in his time at UNC. That combination can definitely be useful in some capacity at the next level.

The main thing that can be used against Howard is his lack of speed. For whatever it’s worth, he ran a 4.58 40-yard dash at the combine, which was near the low end for receivers.

We already picked up a bunch of speedsters in FA hhy did we not sign this guy as an UDF?

    • leftcoast dave

Pace had his plan. He said he had his plan. He prepared for his plan
in FA by plugging all holes. Pace executed his plan. I wanted to see
him go the Houston route by selling that three down to get nine good
picks through the top of five. But Pace wanted to get his franchise QB.
That is now clear. He did it. He also had his sights on Shaheen at
TE and the human joystick. Those were not “what’s left” picks, those
were his targets as were his other two picks.

      He had a plan and
he executed. Would not have been my plan, but my plan would have relied
upon Glennon or someone else in the future. Pace does not plan on
being up at 3 ever again. So he executed his plan.

It is what it is. Don’t let second guessing spoil your day.

    • BerwynBomber

The problem with that reference is that most people — except the Favre lovers — would say that the Cheese, in retrospect, would have better to start Rodgers from day 1 in order not to waste two years of his career sitting on a bench and slowing his education. Especially given what a Peyton-like quick study Rodgers proved to be.

Or to put it another way, if Trubisky is in Rodger’s stratosphere, I’d soon not wait till 2019 to see him.

      • Sahr Gborie

that’s in retrospect. what if the pressure of starting crushed him? he sat. he learned. now he s one of the best. just take it for what it is and hope we have the same out come

        • BerwynBomber

I’m not a believer in the idea that the truly elite guys (Brady, Rodgers, Brees) would be crushed mentally by anything.

Hell, even Alex Smith survived all the pre-Harbaugh SF nonsense and has arguably maxed out his ceiling.

        • Ososfan

Trub has stated he is ready to go as soon as possible. Supposedly he has extremely good memory and amazed all the pro guys with how quickly he learned plays and ish

Two years definitely not. But it seems dubious to believe that observing Farve up close provided no insight that couldn’t be gathered on his own.

      • “The problem with that reference is that most people — except the Favre
lovers — would say that the Cheese, in retrospect, would have better to
        start Rodgers from day 1”

You don’t know that though. There’s a reason why Vadgers fell to begin with. A lot of GMs thought he was a petty immature douchaine ala “hollywood Cook”

Maybe those 2 years humbled him a bit to study and work harder. The embarrassing draft day drop + sitting only fueled him. Either way, can’t argue with results.

        It’s the butterfly effect.

It’s like saying “If only Bortles would’ve sat 2 years, he could’ve cleaned up his mechanics and knowledge to become good”

        Don’t know that either.

    • BearDown100393

      Have a bud lite.

  • Sahr Gborie

Since Howard & Cohen are locks. who gets the boot Langford, Cunningham or Carey?

Also we just signed veteran OT Bradley Sowell to a one-year contract

    • CanadaBear

      Langford.

    • That’s what camp and the preseason will tell us.

I don’t think either will likely get a ton of touches unless Howard and/or Cohen get hurt. Howard will be main back, Cohen situational passing guy.

But one of them will have to be main back if Howard gets hurt. Because Cohen is 175 pounds and thus has to remain complementary RB no matter what.

    • willbest

Cohen is your 3rd down back. Howard is there for 1 & 2. Carey is there in case Howard gets hurt.

      • Benny the Jet I don’t think is your typical 3rd down HB.

        He’s got some girth (5’10 220)

        http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2013/1122/nfl_a_cunningham_ps_400.jpg

and as the ladies say, girth is all that matters.

He can withstand the NFL workload if need be. He’s sorta perfectly inbetween Howard and Cohen in that he can be early and 3rd down back, though obviously he can prolly do the latter a bit better.

Be interesting to find out which way Pox leans.

I think Carey and the rest are gone.

Can always pick up a decent vet or hungry UFA HB if Howard does go down

        • MB30SD

          damn, homie is JACKED!

Or… all on swoooole… as we like to say ’round these here parts.

          • His biceps are as big as my thighs. Or my schlong!

            #swole
            #humanJoystick

He’s actually the perfect HB I wanted in FA. A HB returner/3rd down back who can also handle the load if need be.

Pace did a good job signing him.

Now we have two 3rd down backs to complement Howard AND 3 returners to compete in Benny, Cohen, Jackson (5 if you include Thompson and Royal)

Because players would be in too much awe touching the trophy

  • “But people love picks! More picks! Picks are everything on earth! Picks = championships! He’s a genius!” Jeff

The draft king 9ers wheeled and dealed, snatched 2 lock-down HOFers and a bunch of other picks gonna be the greatest evah…
The Browns “stole” Kizer in the 2nd, picked up Julius Pepper Millennial version, still own the entire first 2 rds next season….

Vegas puts billions both will still win less games than the Bears.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

“snatched 2 lock-down HOFers”. They have not played a down. That is the stupidest thing you have ever said.

      • MB30SD

        I think he’s being facetious

And I can’t wait to see that sequel… Snatched – 2 Lock-Down HOFers – Rampage on the Streets of London!

          god I hope so.

‘Cause Cris Carter had it all figured out in the NFL when he was young and stupid. Leave the giraffe alone.

    • Cris Carter needs to go back to snorting coke or more X-files episodes.

      • BearDown100393

There are more episodes arriving soon. And that is a mighty fine thing.

The best episode was the life & times, greatest hits of Cancer Man. Governed the world with a shadow government all because he was a failed author. Roman a clef indeed.

        • I really loved Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose.

It had the X-files zaniness, humor, and dark pathos.

Clyde to Moulder “You know, there are worse ways to go, but I can’t think of a more undignified way than autoerotic asphyxiation.”

          Moulder, “What?”

  • Ugh. Eddie Jackson has a rod in his leg like White?

    Must…resist..buttonshoe urge…

    • BearDown100393

      Huh what?

      • “Jackson was a big-time player before suffering a broken leg last season on a
injury that looked similar to what Kevin White endured last season. Jackson was tackled awkwardly on a punt return and his foot got caught in the turf, creating the break.

The tape: There is a rod in Jackson’s leg now, but
if he still has his speed, this is what the Bears could be getting as a
free safety and a punt returner:”

        – Hoge

        • BearDown100393

And this is only now becoming known because????????

          • Because Bears.

Hey, maybe Pace is a Wolverine fan. Insert some adamantium claws into White and Jackson.

          • BearDown100393

That would be cool! Literally shred the Packers secondary!

          • MB30SD

literally the ONLY way we can beat them?

          • SC Dave

            I’m sure the Bears knew.

          • MB30SD

he was supposedly an early 2nd until the leg.

And I did the same and have a rod in my leg. Lost a fuckton of speed and hops.

Hope he doesn’t, mine was a traumatic break… hope his wasn’t… but doesn’t sound that way.

            http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2671255-eddie-jackson-injury-updates-on-alabama-stars-leg-and-return

          • I read about the leg. Heck, I saw it happen. Didn’t look like much, but yeah, awkward.

But I did NOT know they inserted a rod.

How can that NOT sap speed and explosion?

Jackson was fast, but it’s not as if he was 4.3 fast.

Oh well. Hope for the best.

          • BearDown100393

It didn’t hamper your NFL career right?

That’s actually what I read before as well, that a SS agent shot JFK from behind, and that the SS were trying to cover up their incompetence (not conspiracy).

Though I find it incredibly hard to believe “the best of the best” panicked and “accidentally” blasted off JFK’s skull

I still suspect LBJ had something to do with it as it is rumored he took out political opponents in Texas back in the days.

Maybe he does. Maybe he doesn’t. Benefit of doubt? How is that working out so far since the exodus of Smith/Angelo?

In a surprise move by John Fox, the Chicago Bears have decided to revamp their offense to be all quarterbacks. “We think this gives us the max flexibility on offense”, said Fox. “Anybody can snap the ball, anybody can pass it, anybody can catch it. We think defenses will be hard pressed to react to the formations we are ready to get off the bus with.”

I think in dynasty leagues you can though. We have a decent core, but need maybe like 2 more players to round out the league if we’re going dynasty.

So now I’m late for work and couldn’t call ahead to let my guy know i was late, no phone and i gotta start back over with my music portfolio. Alot of shit is linked wit my gmail thank god.

  • “Have you ever looked at the success rate of third round picks? Maybe 4 are good a draft and that’s probably high.” – Jeff

Hmmmm let us revisit the 2014 (3 year rule of thumb) class to see.

    http://www.nfl.com/draft/2014/tracker#dt-tabs:dt-by-round/dt-by-round-input:3

I don’t think that rd produced even 1 PBer.

Bears took Sutton over Nix cuz the latter was big with knee issues if I remember correctly.

    • Looking at some of the 2nd/3rd rd TEs from that draft.

#38 Austin Sefarian Jenkins (I think he was an FA this yr due to being a drunk) – Bucs
#49 Jace Amaro (bust) – Jets
#52 TroY Nicklas (Who?) – Cards
#65 CJ Fiedorwitz (Decent when not inj) – Texans

    • willbest

I put up all the data from 2014 going back to 2000 in one of the previous threads in a discussion with Big Mike. There are roughly 2.8 pro-bowlers per draft class from the 3rd round. Not the best benchmark because it doesn’t exclude 1-year wonders. But it also doesn’t tell you who are better than JAGs either.

Just for an anecdote look at the 2013 draft class (uh… totally unbiased.. yeah)

The Bears very own Mike Glennon and Markcus Wheaton are a 3rd round draft picks and neither one of them is being paid like a JAG and neither has made the pro-bowl. John Jenkins is also an alum from that 3rd round though we are paying him like a JAG.

Another name that popped off the list because of FF was Keenan Allen, who is a 3rd round pick and a great WR when healthy. He hasn’t made the pro-bowl.

Now that is in addition to 2013 3rd round PBers Jordan Reed, Travis Kelce, and Tyrann Mathieu. So its a bit amusing when Jeff disses everybody after “maybe 4” because 3 guys that aren’t in those 4 are on the Bears roster and one of them is the starting QB.

  • King of DBB

Haugh and Mully spend the morning show having the conversation this blog has had for 5 years:

Bears senior people such as Teddy Ballgame and George are the problem.

Haugh said it was directly analogous to Peter Wirtz and unfortunately for the Bears there is no Rocky waiting in the wings

They also said at least you can make a case for Trubisky. The rest of the draft won’t make the club and all that was Pace showing off his new scouting org to management by only picking guys from shit kicker schools

    • BearDown100393

And yet some still choose to defend ownership and Terrible Ted.

      Why?

Because they root for da Bears.
