    Does this make this thread…”TIREsome”…?

  • Jokey

I don’t like the way the ball dips while he’s bringing his elbow up. I think the perfect motion is an Elway or Rodgers dart-throwing action where the ball comes up past the ear while raising the elbow.

“My favorite part of this tick-tock story on the #Bears pursuit of Trubisky is his alias for dinner: James McMahon”

If Trubisky turns into the next Manning (either one with their 2 SB rings) people are going to remember this James Bond shit as completely necessary to fool the evil Browns, 9ers, and Jets rather than just juvenile nonsense for a player that would have been there at 3.

Peter Kings Bears prediction of 10 words or less: Trubisky is the quarterback by Thanksgiving. It doesn’t matter.

    • CanadaBear

Of course, it is PK. Surprised he took time out from knobbing the Pats to diss the Bears.

      • Sahr Gborie

read the rest of the article. if its the worst case scenario then so be it. its not like we were winning the SB anyway.

I’m really starting to believe people didn’t want Money Mitch because they knew nothing about him at all. And now as people are starting to learn about him they are starting to warm up to him.

Wish him all the luck in the work so he can bring us multiple SB wins

        • BearDown100393

I cannot hate a quarterback who throws a football into a tire.

          • Irish Sweetness

            It’s a thing ….

        • CanadaBear

I think the biggest issue for Bear’s fans was they all wanted a D stud @ 3. Once they got over the disappointment, they are starting to get on board.

          • Sahr Gborie

i was heart broken like a lot of fans but i also recognize the need and value of a QB. if Money Mitch works takes over nxt year we can spend the next 3 drafts building the offense and defense which would make us a juggernaut

          • CanadaBear

I’m surprised more fans didn’t think they were going QB. I was positive they would take one. Just didn’t know which one.

          • After watching Trub tape, i got a gut feeling either the 9ers or Bears would take him. But then a month or two passed and i didn’t hear anything connecting Bears to Trub, so figured maybe Thomas or even Allen (if medicals cleared). But as it became crunch time, felt the QB vibe. But like u i wasn’t sure if itd be Watson or Trub.
I was praying that if he did it would be Trub cuz Watson is going to get destroyed IMO.
I think what riled up a lot of fans is trading up one spot.
But i assumed right away that other teams were bidding as opposed to assuming Pace had his thumb up his ass.

          • Elect A Clown. Expect A Circus

The trade up surprised Foxy and the rest of the Halas Hall even (except George McCaskey).

Looking back, I think Pace was shit scared of Saints beating him to Trub. They had 2 first round pics to be able to do it.

The chatter about Trub was a 2 inch taller, more athletic potential Drew Brees. If Pace saw that, then I am pretty sure Loomis and Sean Peyton saw that too.

A huge gamble on whether Trub can maximize his potential to that level.

          • Bender McLugh

I was wanting Watson because Trubs’ lack of playing time, and of course the smokescreen the brass gave out for Watson and nothing about Trubs made me think Trubs really was too risky.

          • AlbertInTucson

Surprised me. But that’s not much a a trick.

          • CanadaBear

I hear ya. I thought Biggsy had a great point about Pace’s one QB shot wasn’t going to be Glennon. Also, when you’re up at the top of the draft …

          • I think that last part had a LOT to do with it.

Pacebot calculated that his chances to landing in the top #3 again were slim (and we upped a spot by winning a coin flip).

Going by history, we would finish in the 8-12 range which would cost MUCHO draft picks to move up to pick a franchise, much more than some 3rds (after inquiring what it would cost for Marriotta and Wentz, he figured the cost was too high).

So, he struck while the iron was hot.

          • willbest

I don’t hate it now as much as I did the day of. I think my biggest complaint about the trade up from 3 to 2 is it precluded him trading #36 into the first to get another top graded talent.

          • CanadaBear

Totally agree but it wasn’t a coin flip. The Jags and Bears had the same record but the Bears strength of schedule was worse so they got first dibs in rd 1 and then they alternated after that.

  • King of DBB

    Fun fact:

See how it says “Panini” on the target tarp that Biscuit is throwing at? Biggsy put that there as a reminder to himself on what to order after covering this practice. He likes his with extra cheese and some hollandaise sauce with salami.

So the Bear’s are 10X worse than the Loins? YIKES!

    • Big Mike

Not a bad bet on the Bears. Stranger things have happened. What are the odds to make the playoffs?

  • I was trying to google it, but didn’t Aaron Rodgers hit a throw thru the tire in Time Square when all the other QBs missed the throw?

I vaguely remember something like that.

Then again, Purple Drank threw it 60 yds on his knees.

    • BerwynBomber

      Sounds vaguely familiar.

Brees won a few accuracy competitions during PB weeks and has long been considered the most accurate guy in the league (not that guys like Rodgers or Brady are any slouches). And accuracy was apparently a huge deal for Pace when scouting Isky, which for the moment is a promising sign.

      • Yeah, I think it was some sttick leading up to that draft where they had Alex Smith and a few others try to throw it through a tire in Time Square and Vadgers is the only one from them to hit it. Did a quick google search but got a bunch of other shit.

The three things which impress me most about Trub.

        1. Can throw from multiple platforms. He doesn’t need to be perfectly set.
        2. Keeps his eyes downfield on the run
        3. Accuracy-touch

Personally, I have a set prerequisite on college QBs. Gotta have 68%+ comp, and Trub had that, so should translate as long as he’s not a complete dumb ass.

        • BerwynBomber

Agreed. I’ll also be interested to see how his athleticism translates to the next level. Other than Vick, Young, Mariota no-brainers, it can be tough to predict when a guy is “merely” in the above average category athlete. I remember thinking Cade McNown looked vaguely athletic at UCLA and then he got to the Bears and couldn’t run for more than three yards before an LB or DE caught and destroyed him.

Tisky doesn’t need to be able to scamper 15 yards but it can sure help.

          • Elect A Clown. Expect A Circus

Trub is definitely slippery. College clips where moved to avoid pressure and complete pass showed glimpses of Rodgers/Wilson type slipperiness. Let’s see if can do it at the pro level.

          • BerwynBomber

Rodgers/Wilson elusiveness? Whoa. I’ll be content if he can match Cutty’s athleticism.

          • Elect A Clown. Expect A Circus

Trub is a better athlete than Cuter.

            40 yard: Trub 4.67, Cutler 4.77
            3 Cone drill: Trub 6.87, Cutler 7.12

          • BerwynBomber

            Fair enough.

          • And Trub looks to sport a thicker frame.
Hope he doesn’t think he’s Cam tho.

          • Cutty was as elusive as Rodgers or Wilson.
All those guys could throw it 40 yds rolling to their left.

Only diff being, Cutty wasn’t as accurate as those two.

    • AlbertInTucson

Unfortunately, “Drank” couldn’t throw from his BACK, which what he needed to be able to do behind THOSE Raider O-Lines.

    • Elect A Clown. Expect A Circus

As far as trick shots go, this is a far more impressive throw than Trub’s tire throw.

  • “There are some Bears fans that would rather be right about their draft opinions than have the Bears find a franchise QB.” – Jeff

So this. And not just be right about their draft opinions, but about other things like management, coaching, glennon, white, etc.

    R-E-L-A-X.

    • Elect A Clown. Expect A Circus

“There are some Bears bloggers who are such homers that would rather be right about their opinion about Glennon failing than see Glennon play and succeed.” – Jeff

Jeff was such a homer about Cutler right till the end. The league finally showed such homers about what it thought of Cutler by not giving him even a visit.

Now he is already a homer for Trub and saying he does not want Glennon to play one meaningful snap.

Jeff posted the tire video. Will he post the video that shows Trub has no clue about hard count??

Better to keep things in perspective before anointing Trub as savior based on a trick shot or a few practices in short. Let’s be real that this is going to be a long journey. Trub has the potential but he is not going be magically great overnight. Chances are good that there will be struggles and growing pains. Homerism and Kool Aid consumption should always be tempered.

      • BerwynBomber

Valid point about his fanboy homerism. He is kinda like a little kid with his favorite players in that regard.

I’m looking forward to seeing how Glennon does. The Trubisky hype is understandable but we have another new guy in camp too.

      • To Jeff’s credit, he threw in the towel on Cargo at the end. Right around the time he went dry. No coincidence.

This when there were still others arguing Cargo was still the best option going forward (MOSES. CHRIST) – I wont’ call out who. Those Cutlerites know who they are, but by then Jeff and even Andy I think were about over their Cargo delirium

I don’t get Jeff’s persistence with wanting Trub to start tho.

I think this is where his literary interest clouds his football judgement.

Of course, Trub starting would be a MUCH bigger story than ole Gul de Glennon who looks like a mormon on his 2yr mission.

Trub would be a hellava lot more intriguing week to week, but it would be like waiting for a car crash in NASCAR.

It’s infinitely better Trub sits. Said from day 1. Still say it now. Fuck “clicks”.

Wilson winning that job in SEA is totally different. He came from an NFL O.
Stepped into a situation where he could lean on a borderline HOFer in Lych, and arguably the best D.

We are far from that (unless it all some how miraculously gels).

The early rough schedule is what worries me.

If Bears are 1-5, the natives, espn, nfln, bloggers, etc will be calling for Trub

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

I would not mind having Trub start day one. I don’t see it happening but it would mean a couple things. He was able to grasp the intricacies of the playbook, he was making the right reads in the offseason and preseason, and he was significantly better than Glennon. That last point is the most important, if Trub and Glennon are close coming out of camp then you go with Glennon. But if Trubs is far better you have to start him. What would it do to the team when they see that their best chance to win games is sitting on bench?

I understand the excitement, Trub is that new toy you got for Christmas when you were little and you want to play with and see what it can do. However to fully enjoy you have to wait for warmer weather to play with it outside. But until that day comes you are regulated to only getting glimpses of what the Kung Fu grip can do, and you have to wait before you can see if it can withstand getting blown up by a firecracker or how far it will fly with a couple bottle rockets taped to its back.

        • Elect A Clown. Expect A Circus

Trub threw a pick six against Stanford against a simple robber defense and was fooled a couple times more with the same look in the same game.

Learning the plays in the playbook is one thing. Who in their right mind thinks Trub will be ready to face Dan Quinn’s extremely fast Atlanta defense in week 1?

This is exactly why they paid $15 million to Glennon and paid $2 million to Sanchez. So that Trub is not rushed.

What about refining his mechanics? If he is starting week 1 and getting consumed by weekly cycle of game prep, film breakdown after game etc. when will he fix issues with his footwork? When will he get in dedicated time to work on his deep ball accuracy? Why the rush to put him out there and be like EJ Manuel, Geno Smith etc.?

    • King of DBB

Jeff sometimes reads subtexts that do not exist, into things people say.

Nobody wants Trubisky to fail. I haven’t heard one person say “I hope that kid busts out”. Maybe some of the people who booed him at the Bulls game want that, but most do not.

That doesn’t mean a damn thing about the job people think Ryan Pace is doing.

      • He’s also replying to idiots on Twitter, so who the fuck knows what’s going on over there.

I don’t think fans will be actively rooting against Trub, but I get the sense that some can’t wait for him to fail so they can say “Told you so!”

Maybe some wanted Thomas or Adams. Maybe some preferred Watson, or are still blowing Cutler and can’t wait to say, “See, you didn’t know how good you had it” but I think some fans have ‘agendas’ – they have their own narratives which they want to see play out.

For me, I’m just a meathead fan who wants them to win. It’s that simple.

I wasn’t high on Floyd last draft. Thought it was EXTREMELY risky, but I pulled for the kid and I’m glad he’s coming along.

No secret what I think about Fox, AKA Albino Lovie. But hey, even Lovie went to the SB with Rexy, so if Fox proves me wrong, that’ll be awesome.

But sometimes I get the sense SOME fans are just brooding in their cubicles with their McCaskey, Pace and Trub voodoo dolls jerking off to Cargo riding a stationary bike.

“Bears are far worse on offense than on defense.” – Jeff

Did I miss some news that Goldman, Trevathan, and McPhee were all in perfect health? Its not even apparent that the defense is better than the offense on paper let alone substantially better. The only way the D is substantially better than the O based on present analysis is if you write in Zero where the giant “?” is at QB.

    • TDs and TOs.

      We need bunches of both.

The rest of the stats are nearly irrelevant (or will fall into place).

I think we’re keeping Houston around as McPhee insurance. Once the staff feels McPhee can hack it, maybe they cut Houston.

That was my #1 worry with McPhee – if he could handle a full season since he was just part time in Balt.

Obviously, his body can’t, so maybe they’ll keep Houston around to spell him.

      • CanadaBear

If Houston is on the roster his entire 2017 salary is guaranteed.

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

          we have the cap space.

Gotta say, him at LG is a bit disappointing. A lot of draft experts were talking about him having the size, length, strength at feet to eventually move to LT, or at the very least, RT.

LGs are a dime a dozen. They frequently work in tandem with the C, while the RG takes on the best DT.

So in other words, the Bears no longer believe Long can hack it vs the best DTs.

Like you say, maybe they’re trying to conserve his ankle, but drafting a LG in the 1st who’s not a killer AP is def not good value.

            Here’s something to ponder:

Can he beat out Kush for the job?

          • I thought Kush outplayed him last season. When Cutler had that relative clean pocket vs the Vikes, Kush was in.

            Long was def hurt though.

I really like Kush. If they were to actually let them compete Big Balls Petey style, I think Kush would win.

But we know Foxy don’t roll that way. Just look how long it took him to bench Langford for Howard.

I think there’s 2 IR spots now for late season comebacks. If Long’s ankle is still busted up, may think about slotting him in one spot.
