Three Thoughts on the Decision to Start Mitch Trubisky

| October 2nd, 2017

Mitch Trubisky will start against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night, October 9th. And so begins the future of the Chicago Bears. Three thoughts:

(1) There was no other acceptable decision for the Bears organization at this time. Their Mike Glennon plan was a colossal failure and they could not turn the reigns over to a journeyman like Mark Sanchez. The locker room and fan base were at wit’s end. If they had any intention of making 2017 a season of value, Trubisky had to start Monday night.

(2) Offensive staff, especially Dowell Loggains, were fierce advocates for the move of late. It wasn’t entirely about Mike Glennon’s limitations, either. The injuries to both Cam Meredith and Kevin White required changes to the team’s offensive approach and those changes did not fit Glennon. This crop of receivers need time to win their one-on-one battles. Trubisky’s legs can give them that time.

(3) This will not be a smooth and easy twelve games for Trubisky. He will make mistakes, just like all rookie QBs do. But those mistakes now have value. Interceptions now have value. Losses now have value. And as Bears fans, we must not hope that come January we’ve seen enough from the kid to have excitement and anticipation for the 2018 campaign.

(3a) Thank the lord.

    New thread already? Shooooooot

  • beninnorcal

I recall Sexy Rexy’s first game was against the Vikes. We won 13-10 on account of Peanut’s rookie brilliance, fighting a ball out of Randy Moss’s hands in the endzone for a pick and the win. One of the finest plays I can remember. Watched that game at a bar in Scottsdale, AZ with my best friend who passed away this summer.
Rex didn’t work out long term but I was excited at the time for the future.

Here’s to Mitch and the rest of this young team with some good bits and pieces. And here’s to having hope again. Bear down, blog brethren. Cheers

    • beninnorcal

That was 14 years ago already?! Where is the time going?

  • That Guy

I expect the TE position to get a lot of catches now. Dunno why Glennon was incapable of throwing many balls to his TEs.

    Video from the Vegas crowd

    https://twitter.com/IAMJUSTINAARON/status/914739085717262337

Shooter was on the 10th floor of the left hand side of the hotel.

Things that you notice in the vid:

    * There is no discernible muzzle flash from the guys weapon, be it a SAW or something else fully-auto. I’ve been to many shooting ranges before and this weapon sounded suppressed. It’s hard to say that with any certainty given the distance of the shooter to the camera and the noise cancellation that an iPhone has, but the newspaper showed his exact window and you see nothing but black there, also noting that the iPhone is going to white balance the distance with spotlights shining at it.
    * People’s muted reaction to being under fire from an advantaged position
    * The stage crew decision to go to lights and illuminate the crowd did nobody any favors whatsoever
    * The generalized confusion and the balls (stupidity?) of the kid running this phone to keep shooting while rounds are cracking off the pavement around him

    • That Guy

All the news reports have the shooter on the 32nd floor.

The cops only found him because all the gunfire set off the smoke detectors in his room.

      • King of DBB

Yes – correction – he was on the 32nd floor not the 10th as an original report stated.

    • Scharfinator

      Harrowing shit.

The lack of reaction is the most bizarre bit to me. I guess the people who DID react quickly aren’t even there anymore when this video shows though.

The big thing I noticed is you can clearly tell when the shooter is reloading. Long burst, silence, long burst. Obviously the time to move is during the silence, but keeping a cool head in that situation is a lot easier said than done.

If everyone had a gun, we wouldn’t have to worry about gun violence. Good guy with a gun can beat a bad guy with a gun. This is why war zones are noted for their safety.

        • Elect A Clown. Expect A Circus

What the fuck is wrong with you??

          • Johnnywad

Absolutely nothing. You on the other hand……

Only a piece of trash like you would jump on a tragedy like that and breathe your fucking politics into it. Fuck off and get some help.

          • CanadaBear

Not a fan of elect but he has a point. If we don’t talk about it now, when will we talk about it. It’s the same with climate change and all the weather disasters recently. I feel bad for the people that were there but if we don’t talk about now, when will we?

          • King of DBB

GOP will say “now is not the time to discuss the topic, it is a time to heal.”

And days will pass. Weeks. The NFL will have it’s moments of silence, games will get played.

And bills will still die in committee. And Trump would veto anything that even looked like a ban, or even a waiting period. Because the gun toters are his people. He feeds on chaos, so why would he?

I’ve given up, personally. I jump on the train and off the train, otherwise I GTFO of Union station and I move quickly via the streets. I am cautious about bringing my kids into the city into events. It’s just a matter of a time before it’s Chicago’s turn in the loop. I just hope to avoid it.

          • Johnnywad

Yes Trump would veto it. He’s an asshole. And Obama didn’t do Dick all about it either. And. Either did Bush, or Clinton, or Bush, or Reagan, or Carter. Because it’s impossible.

And Trump’s never getting the bill anyway. Such a bill will never be written and passed though Congress. Ever. Too many fuckheads at either end of the spectrum to write anything resembling a centrist win.

          • CanadaBear

            Both sides love guns.

          • Johnnywad

It’s been talked about, and talked about, and talked about. And it’s completely hopeless. And should the assholes in DC all finally collectively decide to remove automatic and semi-automatic weapons from society (which is impossible), we’re still fucked. It only takes one mentally ill person and a small stash of rifles to do the damage we saw last night. And you’re not getting those guns. They’ll never turn them in. And there’s no way to know where they are.

What I can’t tolerate, is that motherfucker above using this event, in that way. Fuck him. He’s mental.

          • evantonio

terrorist attack on US soil: talk! discuss! debate! we need new laws and tougher checks on immigrants!

american attack on US soil: not the time to talk! nothing to discuss! debates are politically charged! we don’t need new laws or tougher checks on who’s getting automatic weapons!

now, i’m not disagreeing that it’s highly politicized. and i’m not denying what was said above about Adam Lanza’s mom buying him guns/training. but like Canada asks, when is the time to talk about it? why do we say we must mourn and respect the dead in one instance, but spit fiery rhetoric in the other?

          • Johnnywad

What more would you like to be said on guns as they relate to policy in the US?

          • evantonio

i’m not sure i understand the question.

          • Johnnywad

You mentioned in your post above that now seems like the time to talk about gun control. In my opinion, it’s been talked to death. There’s nothing to gain by talking about it again. I’d also submit that no measure of gun control would have changed what happened in Vegas. These types of things are happening around the world. They’re happening in countries that don’t even allow citizens to carry guns.

We’re never going to pass any kind of gun legislation that prevents an event such as this. Again, just my opinion.

But what really sets me off, is when some raging asshole, uses the deaths of innocent people, in this case dozens, to attack and insult people of different political persuasions. Fuck him.

          • evantonio

I’d also submit that no measure of gun control would have changed what happened in Vegas.

If citizens weren’t able to legally obtain high-powered fully automatic rifles, then maybe he’s up there firing off shots with his 6-shooter. Or maybe he has an auto-rifle anyway, because he uses Tor and knows the people to know on the dark net. We won’t know for this time, and we won’t know for next time either, because nothing will change.

            Fuck him.
He wants people to stop dying, and he’s tired of other people shrugging their shoulders and saying, “ain’t nothing we can do about it.” Can’t fault him for that. But you can fault him for insulting you. If this were Florida, that would be a killable offense.

          • Johnnywad

No citizen needs or should have, an automatic, or even semi automatic weapon. It’s completely unnecessary. But the ship has sailed. They’re out there. And they’re everywhere. And we’re not getting them back.

And I’m not a member of the tea party. I’m as centrist as you can possibly be. But I get their point. As I also get the point of those protesting racist police killings. So I’m not directly insulted.

That particular poster is notafter any kind of productive dialogue on anything. He’s there, at every turn, willing to use the deaths of dozens of people at the hands of a mentally ill, and very violent person, to just stir a pot; to insult people; to just be a vile asshole. If you really believe the crux of his original post was that he’s tired of people dying, I believe you’ve missed the kind of person he is entirely.

his post Sandy Hook legislation died in the Senate.

          • It’s all part of the plan

I’m all for common sense restrictions and ultimately know it won’t do a fucking thing but regarding Sandy Hook….. Lanza’s fucking idiot mom not only bought all of those guns but took that fucking half wit shooting!!!!!! What the fuck was she hoping to do, soothe his rage by making him more fucking dangerous?

          • Irish Sweetness

It’s because of Lanza that normal folk should not be allowed near guns. If there was a gun in my house growing up, I’d be dead long ago, only question is would I have done that alone?

I’m curious to know what percentage of gun suicides every year take place in NRA households?

          • CanadaBear

            A lot.

          • evantonio

            i know.

but the NRA helped sell a lot of guns by convincing millions of sheeple that the big, bad black man was coming to take away their 2nd amendment rights.

          • It’s all part of the plan

            you sound like Sac’s cousin

          • evantonio

          • It’s all part of the plan

whichever side bought the local print shop out of Clinton campaign shirts!

          • It’s all part of the plan

I think we can agree that based on the numbers the extra bump in gun and ammo purchasing that did occur came from people that were already multiple gun owners. so I’m not sure if that extra inventory sold has resulted in more mass killings.
I think 2/3rds of all gun deaths are suicides. An insane majority of black gun deaths are homicides and the majority of white gun deaths are suicides.

Stats suck because sometimes they lead us to ask tough questions.

          • evantonio

gun ban and gun control are two very different things. but yes – ours is a larger problem since are already millions upon millions of them in circulation already.

          • It’s all part of the plan

50% of the guns are owned by 3% of the population too so it’s big but not as big as we are led to believe.

And it would be tough to control because of people that already bought them. Are they grandfathered in? do they really pose a threat if they’ve had 50 guns for 20 years and haven’t shot up a concert yet?

          • evantonio

I wouldn’t call them a threat, no. And i don’t think all gun owners are a threat and i do think mental illness does play a part, as many gun defenders are quick to assign blame there. BUT. If you’re (not you – the general you) going to come out and say, “the gun’s not to blame! it’s zoloft! he was mentally ill!,” then why would you be against laws that say you must prove mentally fit to buy a killing machine?

          • It’s all part of the plan

I think the time is coming when it will get more restrictive and that is a good thing. I have a sinking feeling that shit will still happen and then people will get more and more desperate and frustrated and we’ll stop looking at the reasons why it happens and just focus on the instrument instead of the action.

          • A7Xthebest

The more “Restrictive” you get, the more violent the people get. It’s a government-societal trend throughout human history.

          • It’s all part of the plan

I’m willing to crack a few eggs to make my omelet.

          • SC Dave

And that’s always the problem. Whose eggs?

          • willbest

because the evidence suggests this guy was mentally fit. So do you have to prove you are mentally fit regularly? How often? Who does the deciding? Does being a racist make you unfit? misogynist? religious? How much discretion does the agent making the decision get? Is the appeals process free, and will the state provide all the legal fees for the appeal regardless if the applicant wins or loses?

I mean at some point you make the process so cumbersome that the guy on the street becomes an acceptable alternative (see black market cigarettes)

Selling a gun to a person you suspect shouldn’t have one is already illegal. Buying a gun for another person is already illegal.

To catch anybody taking zoloft and owning firearms you are talking about a massive big brother style database, which cannot be protected as equifax just proved. What if the doctor suggests an anti-depressant but the person refuses. Are they fit or unfit? Do you take the guns away the second the doctor suspects? Are doctors now required to report the mental state of everybody that they see?

The reason the left isn’t making progress on gun restrictions is because the only area left where background checks don’t occur are private sales between two residents of the same state, for which the rules of those sales are determined by the state.

          • It’s all part of the plan

I will, for a salary select a crack team of several of my friends and we will interview anyone looking to purchase a gun in Illinois. I can’t tell you why but my CrayDar is fucking spot on even if it’s years into the future.

          • Irish Sweetness

Like leaving the country? Because morally, racially … it’s a cooked banana. Society has failed in that nation.

  • My only thought is that it’s about time.

    Now for more analytical reactions:

I found this offseason that a 1st round QB’s rookie performance is a decent predictor of career outcome. The key to watch for is if he can be within 10 points of league average in passer rating (so somewhere in the 80s). If he hits that, it’s very likely the Bears have found themselves a keeper. http://dabearsblog.com/2017/data-entry-how-the-bears-should-handle-mitch-trubisky

And now the more important one: Trubisky’s outcome will determine the next 5 years for the Bears. If he pans out, they should be very good starting in 2018. If he doesn’t, they will almost certainly continue to suck through 2020. http://dabearsblog.com/2017/data-entry-how-the-bears-should-handle-mitch-trubisky

    • Scharfinator

      No pressure, Mitch! 😛

      • It’s not ALL about the QB, but it’s about as close as you get in sports.

    • willbest

The position is too important. You would think the NFL would start thinking of ways to make the QB position less important.

      • Sahr Gborie

How when Glennon just showed us how unwatchable the game can be without a decent QB let alone a good to great one?

        • willbest

Glennon shouldn’t be on an NFL stage without a Dez Bryant to throw jump balls at. But there has to be a way to narrow the gap between people like Josh McCown and Casey Keenum and the Aaron Rodgers of the world.

          • Sahr Gborie

he cant even throw jump balls because hes too busy getting sacked and kicking the ball to the other team. I dont think even keeping Alshon would have help Glennon.

There is no way to narrow the gap. You either have it or you dont. It sounds like an oversimplification but that’s just how it is. Sit them or start them if a QB has it they will shine. If they don’t they will fail.

          • willbest

For example, when back when you could mug receivers, it made throwing the football riskier, and thus less important. Not that Rodgers won’t always be more talented, but that the importance of having Aaron Rodgers goes down a little bit.

          • Sahr Gborie

Good point. However the league go backwards. They want more excitement so they will allow the offense more opportunities

          • Irish Sweetness

Dez Bryant? I can’t believe he’s in the NFL. He gets targeted a bunch and comes down with nothing.

        • AlbertInTucson

Looking at the next 4 games if Bears can get a split and be 3-5, that’s about right where I had them. Didn’t think it would be done with so much drama. But splitting against the Vikings, Ravens, Panthers and Saints is doable. Can they go 6-2 against Packers, Lions, Eagles, 49ers, Bengals, Lions, Browns, Vikings? Doubt it. But oh, one can dream.

    • Sahr Gborie

we are better than people give us credit. not saying MT is the answer but he has to be better than the guy he is replacing. If he does not make mistakes that cost the team we should be alright. our defense can win games for us. our o line will give him time to throw. our 2 RB’s can win games for us. hopefully the TE’s will figure into the game plan more. not saying we are going to go undefeated but we should be more competitive.

      • Big Mike

I agree. But were we heading for another 3 win season with Glennon and no we are looking at 6-7? That’s the thing. Certainly will make at least the next few games much more interesting than they would have been.

        • Sahr Gborie

          1. could we have beaten Atlanta with MT – yes
          2. lets chuck the Bucks as a loss all around
          3. Pittsburgh is another win
          4. GB is a win with MT. i find it hard to believe he would make the same boneheaded mistakes Giraffe made.

that puts us at 2-2 for the season and all of a sudden things are very interesting

          • Big Mike

I think bearing GB was not going to happen with or without Trubisky

            Mike

          • Sahr Gborie

Giraffes play put us in the hole something serious on the scoreboard. but more than that he also demoralized the team

          • Big Mike

Team morale is I believe what pushed this over the top.

    • willbest

Can you imagine the wailing if we are 1 game short of the playoffs?

      • Sahr Gborie

all the more reason to terminate Fox

      • Big Mike

There will always be wailing. I don’t know if we lead the league in it, but finding the cloud in the silver lining has become a Bears’ fans specialty. After being on the outside looking in at the playoffs forever, it’s understandable.

    • Joecashflow

Would like to hope so. I thought Glennon would at least last 6 games but he never went uphill. What Tru gives us in the next 1-3 games I hope is patience, and athleticism we saw in PS.

  • Sactowns#1

Well after the performance last Sunday by the QB we should have gotten in the draft, this is the only move they could make. Now let’s find out what we’ve got and then work like hell to trade for Watson.

    • willbest

Why would you trade for Watson?

      • Sahr Gborie

He’ an ass will. Ignore him

      • Sactowns#1

        Try watching him play.

        • Sahr Gborie

i hope you are still chasing Wastson when MT starts to light it up

        • willbest

Sort of irrelevant. If he is as good as you think he is, it would take a King’s Ransom setting the program back a half decade, and if he isn’t why would you waste draft capital on a middling QB when you can just overpay Cousins.

          • AlbertInTucson

            It’s a completely obtuse idea.

Houston’s been waiting for him since the inception of the franchise.

Welcome back to Earth, Case Keenum.

Last week: 25-33, 369 Yards and 3 TD.

    This week; 16-30, 219 and 0 TD.

    Hasn’t throw a pick , though.

    Yet.

    • BerwynBomber

Funny, I watched some of that MIN/DET game yesterday. Keenum struggled but DET’s D played lights out. But here’s the thing. As much as Keenum struggled? He looked fucking LIGHT years better than Glennon.

Reminded me of the 2011 season when we had to go to Hanie for a four games before we signed McCown off the street to QB the last two.

McCown was a revelation in comparison to Hanie. A marginal QB, yes. But when you compare a dude like that to someone who should not be in the league, the former can resemble a ten year starter.

Pretty much how I thought of Keenum vs. Glennon yesterday.

      • AlbertInTucson

Key stat: He didn’t give the ball away.

        • BerwynBomber

Right. And his mental processor, feet and release are not glacially slow.

In fact, Keenum reminds me a bit of a young McCown. Limited, of course, but a quality back-up and semi-competent spot starter. Could see him sticking around the league for ten years as a well-travelled journeyman.

          • AlbertInTucson

And he escaped the mess that was last year’s Ram staff…?

          • SC Dave

Something to be said for that.

  • King of DBB

If the 10 day break is long enough to prep the Tr00b, then could they possibly shuffle the wideout corps?

I hope the kid isn’t trying to develop timing with anybody except Wright. And Cohen.

I know Gentry mouthed off to a ref and cost the Bears a sportsman penalty, but can he really be worse than Bellamy? Bellamy has hands of fucking stone. I simply cannot watch this guy drop more balls.

    Thompson cannot get open. CAN-NOT.

Just make Benny the 2nd back, commit to just having Cohen play SE or WR2, get him to work that route tree and then try and work in formations where Miller and Sims can be on the field at the same time.

If you want to get Cohen more touches – work in a reverse and a fake reverse. Or fucking go three wide and call motion and slide him back there – Cunningham can decoy and then lead block.

But get fucking Josh Bellamy off the field. He can play ST, but get him off the O. Thompson too.

Get the kid working with Wheaton. I’ve not given up on him yet.

Can Sherrick play O? Tre McBride must REALLY suck not to called up with this shitstorm.

#Bears will be signing WR Tre McBride to their active roster from their practice squad.

      Ok, now cut Bellamy.

      • It’s all part of the plan

you have to bring on Victor Cruz. We need a vet that can play the position. Bellamy is one of the greatest athletes I’ve ever seen. he’s big, fast, physical, violent, edgy…..but catches the ball 65% of the time which is not NFL caliber. Cruz can’t be that bad. Who is Tre McBride?

        • King of DBB

Tre McBride is best known for being the black limo driver that stays in the parking garage during the original Diehard.

He’s also #18, which is a number only pussy receivers that have Madden ratings in the low 60s wear.

          • It’s all part of the plan

Bellamy can block. Cut Wheaton and Wright instead. They are not good at anything.

        • Irish Sweetness

Dave’s WR roster : Bellamy, McBride, Thompson.

With a lot of help from the TEs and Cohen, we could make it work.

      • Irish Sweetness

Cut Bellamy? And put in who?

Bellamy has dropped 4 balls in 38 thrown at him. He’s a blame-dog. However we don’t currently have a receiver over 6’0 tall.

So I spent yesterday at a wedding reception, unfortunately everyone there seemed to want to talk to me about the school shooting, the entire ‘Baby Boomer’ group wanted to blame violent video games. So I was thinking now that a 64 year old went nuts and shot a lot of people, what is to blame? Because anytime there is any type of horrific event we evidently have to find something stupid to put the blame on. So I am going to blame the violence on boner pills, the pills got the old man too excited and frustrated.

    • I’m pumped about Trub starting. He was the one QB I liked in this class (I kinda liked Watson but had bigger questions about him running a real O and durability).

Trub has all the tools. Some of his critics thought he looked like Cutler, but I didn’t see that. He took care of the ball, which always reveals solid decision making.

He has zip. touch. mobility. Goes through his progressions. Looks to throw while keeping his eyes down field.

The 3 questions I had about him didn’t really have to do with the physical:

      1. Is he a leader like Watson (the infamous “it” factor)?

By most accounts he’s more a Flacco personality.

      2. Is he clutch?

Simply didn’t have enough of a sample size. The Stanford game is prolly the closest we saw to test his mettle, and he did throw well enough to win that game.

      3. Can his brain learn and process NFL Os and Ds?

He struggled with this a bit failing to recognize more exotic Ds which in turn made him a bit hesitant in the pocket, and I think we’ll have to live with this for a bit (him throwing some INTs where he’s baited or misses the CB lurking).

Just gotta hope he can learn from the mistakes.

Either way, should be a fun ride.

And given the performances of Hoyer and Cutler last week, we should all be excited.

      • leftcoastdave

Number 3 is why I am glad they waited, and not because I question his aptitude.

It took time to begin to roll out different sets with Howard and Cohen as well as the receiver corp for what it’s worth. Now the team has a lot of tape in the can to see how people were playing against what they were doing (or trying to do) for Mitchell to study and learn from. If there are people on this site watching the all 22’s, you’ve gotta know Mitchell has been studying that stuff and particularly with regard to what his receivers are doing on given routes.

I hope he starts out the game with five to seven in the flats. Keep him ahead of the sticks and let the opportunities come to him while continuing to pound the ball. It would be great if it was play action out of a jumbo package.

After this mini-bye things should look fun against the Viqueen who were only able to put up 7 against the Lions. Think about it, how many D line castoffs from da Bears did the Lions test in the last year before keeping CornWash?

        • CanadaBear

I have no idea if MT can bring out the best in the WR’s but getting him on the move has to help. I’m really excited to see him play next Monday. Hope the Queens D isn’t too much for him but ya gotta start somewhere.

He may have had a drum instead of clips

His bed had 18 guns on it. He did try and escape it seems and shot a hotel worker in the leg and then fell back to his room. After they breached found him dead. Surprised he didn’t try and take the first through the door down

          • One of the experts on TV said making a semi – full is not easy.

This hellfire trigger doesn’t seem to be all that complicated.

          • CanadaBear

To actually change the mechanism in the gun would require some machining skill at the very least. This takes care of that problem. Crazy. I started hunting when I was about 11 or 12. It makes me sick to see this stuff.

          • CanadaBear

I had never heard of it either but I really haven’t been a gun kinda guy for a long time. Hunted for 40 years but you only need 1 shotgun for that. I had a half dozen handguns after my dad passed (4 of them were his) but no rifles other than a .22. Sold all of that when I came to Canada.

I’ve shot assault rifles before and they are fun as hell to shoot but I’ve never shot anything full auto. My dad and I were at a range in Florida and they had full auto weapons but you had to buy the ammo from them. My dad and I did some quick calculating in our heads and decided we needed more money to do it properly. We knew we’d go nuts!

I just wish these cocksuckers would reverse the shooting order and save everyone a lot of heartache.

          • willbest

The ammo costs on full auto are brutal.

          • CanadaBear

If you could reload your own it would cut the cost in at least half. Those ranges weren’t about to let you get by with your own ammo. The cost to rent the guns was really very little. This was back in the 80’s and we both thought it would cost us around $500 each. We both started laughing about how neither one of us even considered only shooting a couple hundred rounds/person.

I am struck on how much planning this would take. I can’t imagine being able to pull it off this effectively without at least 3 months. This isn’t a go nuts and climb a bell tower or bust down a school door level op.

He needed to know that room had sight lines on that area. That the area is used for such events. That there was an event “worthy” of his efforts. I want to know when the room was booked. The first time. I want to know when the GF bought the ticket out of the country.

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

my guess is the venue is used almost every weekend. From the looks of maps its about 1000 ft distance from his hotel room. My guess he just requested a room with a view of the strip above a certain floor.

      • Absolutely premeditated with lots of forethought.

I’ve been to Vegas many of times, and it’s perhaps the most vulnerable “soft” target in the U.S.

It’s a huge tourist attraction with lax rules and security. You can drink their 24/7, so ppl are up all hours of the day.

And obviously he picked that hotel for the sniper’s advantage. It was also right next to the airport, which makes me wonder if he also had plans on shooting airplanes.

He came with enough ammo, and the right type, to inflict maximum carnage. He also may have had some instrument to break the glass.

Broke the glass from two rooms hypothetically to avoid counter snipers seeing the muzzle flash. Or maybe he set up two different target areas.

Either way, like you say, this wasn’t some rash roid rage massacre.

It was meticulously planned out like HEAT.

On a side note, his dad was once a top 10 most wanted man on the FBI list, and they said his dad was insane with a death wish.

Don’t know how that plays all into this, but perhaps possible motive.

As of yet, I haven’t heard a motive.

        • willbest

There has to be a motive. The voices in ones head aren’t that well organized. That is why the GF almost certainly had to suspect, know, or be in on it.

I probably wouldn’t be able to live with myself if it was in front of the camera. At least the Score’s radio callers still have a lot of obscurity.

    • BuddhaJoe

Those meatballs are Steve Rosendoom’s base, they’d piss and moan no matter what. Fuck ’em. It’s weird since I live in Lions’ country and a lot of our meatballs are the opposite, they were extolling the virtues of the team and being positive during the epic 0-16 season.

    • ButtonShoes

The Vikings’ D might kill Trubisky. That’s no reason not to play him. He has to learn, and the only way is through playing him. Those callers are fucking morons.

  • King of DBB

Somebody left the Trib on the train.

    Biggsy sayd:

Trub gets a very long rope but if it forces them to go back to Glennon then Pace takes a massive hit. His safe zone drops from 2-3 years down to 1-2.

Then Biggs posted his fall diet: ham salad.

Instead of lettuce you use thinly sliced ham with baby tomatos and crutons. Add Ranch dressing.

    • CanadaBear

MT would have to seriously shit the bed to go back to MG. You would think Sanchez would get the call before MG. Unless MT can’t process quickly, I like his chances of being successful. Everything I’ve read is he really cares and loves this stuff. Basically the anit-Cadester!

      • Bortles has been horrible for 4 yrs and they’re still trotting him out there

        • CanadaBear

Fair enough. I doubt they get away with that in a big market.

          • willbest

In fairness to the JAGs this is the first time the team looks like it has talent waiting for a QB. If you were trotting out ’14 through ’16 Bears it wouldn’t really matter what QB you put back there. As it turns out this year’s ST (outside the kicker) is a quality unit, and the D seems to be gelling reasonably well after the initial round of injuries.

      • ButtonShoes

I don’t care how much Trubisky shits the bed. If he blows, he still has to keep playing.

    • BuddhaJoe

He’d have to go full Bad Rex to be worse than Glennon so I wouldn’t worry about that.

  • King of DBB

Skins v Chiefs is a good game tonight

    • FresnoBear88

Need Thompson to put up 26 fantasy points!

      • haha. Rooting for you Fres!

Drag them down with you! lol

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

not bad- I need Hill to put up 41.

      • SC Dave

        Who’s got Hunt?

        • Who else, me!
          And Alex Smith.

Though I already beat NBIT even without either cuz I also have Howard, Bell…

    • Think this is the Chief’s yr.

Smith came out like Wild Bill that first game. That set a tone, an aggressive tone.

As long as Hunt/Kelce/Hill stay heathy, they’ll be dangerous.

Losing Berry was a hit, no doubt, but that D is loaded.

Curious to see if the Foreskin’s Dline can dominate. They completely shut down the Raiders.

It’s all on Cousins on O. When he’s hot, he’s elite.

But sometimes he makes some really boneheaded throws .

      • CanadaBear

There’s always “The Andy” factor. Worst game day coach in the league. Hands down. He made Lovie look like Hoodie.

        • That is true, but it looks like Smith has transcended the Walrus.

Like when Neo finally surpassed Morpheus.

          • CanadaBear

Things aren’t going well in Illini land. I actually thought he would make a really good HC. I was basing that on him being a really good recruiter. Kinda looks like he sucks at both!

      • King of DBB

The chiefs are the fastest team in the NFL team speed everywhere

      • Irish Sweetness

Smells like a SB for the Chiefs.

    • Johnnywad

Is that what you’ll be doing while preparing your crow?

      • King of DBB

I think you should block me and then I can do the same. The way it’s all good, mmmkay?

        • Johnnywad

You went full douche. Not me. Then you said you’d gladly eat crow, right here, if/when you were wrong. And you were. So get on with it.

  • willbest

I wonder if the resale price of tickets for monday’s game jumped 25-30% on this news.

  • FF…noooooo

    Ender up by 22. Problem?
    505 has Cousins going tonight.

which means Cousins will score 23.

And Sac turned into Drago and beat Waffle to death like Apollo 197-64

Looks like Sac and me are gonna be set up for the main showdown

  • Pryor was an FA this offseason.

  • I don’t know how the announcer mistakes a 300 pound white linemen for Hunt.

  • BerwynBomber

The WAS Oline looks top of the league type quality. At least tonight.

Have to hand it to Cousins. Thought he’d regress this year but so far not the case.

NFCE could be a three team dogfight all year.

    • willbest

Cousins is hyper motivated to land himself some $50 million+ in guarantees next year.

      • Johnnywad

        As am I.

    • Cousins always starts slow. Dunno why, but esp this yr lots of QBs started off that way.

      • BerwynBomber

Yes and no in regard to Cousins.

In ’15 he and WAS finished strong, winning their last four before Rodgers and GB beat them in the WC game in DC.

In ’16 he and WAS kinda collapsed at the end of the reg season, losing four of their last six, including the season finale against NYG (also in DC) when Cousins tossed a couple of atrocious, backbreaking picks that cost them a playoff spot.

  • Norman was an FA

    • Johnnywad

Our day for a couple big FAs is not far off. Closer if Trubisky is the guy Pace traded a bunch of picks for.

      • Let’s hope so cuz I drills a hole in my soul to see a bunch of FAs I wanted playing well on other teams.

LB Zach Brown was another one that I wanted to kick the tires on.

        • Johnnywad

It seems logical to me. Take over a shit roster, build a base the best you can without spending splash money. Build the best you can through the draft. Pickup some role players on prove it deals along the way. And strike on the QB you believe in when the opportunity arises. If Tru is legit, and gets 12 games under his belt this year, there’s no reason to assume Pace won’t bring in some very real FA talent to accompany what looks like a couple solid drafts.

Hopefully the kid proves worth it. Because that’s the key to the whole thing. If he blows, Pace is on the clock. If Pace goes, rebuild starts over. Pace has to be right on this one or we’re all back to square one.

And let’s not forget he’s likely hiring his own coach this winter.

    • Irish Sweetness

Well, we had to keep our money for some reason, Butch. I guess there was a reason ….

  • BearDown100393

Perfect throw. Perfect reception. Perfect second effort by the WR.

I am not used to this.

  • BearDown100393

    Bye Jim Tomsula.
Hey Mitch, the hard count…. yeah it works sometimes.

    • Johnnywad

      Works especially well on JWebb.

      • BearDown100393

The dude was a slob who could not even tie his cleats.

  • BearDown100393

    Carr broke his back.

    He got Romoed.

    • Johnnywad

That blows. Wonder if that’s something that he fully recovers from.

      • BearDown100393

For normal Joes, yeah not that bad. But for a NFL QB…. uncertain future it is.

      • Amazingly, a fractured back is not that ‘bad’.

Romo came back after 1 missed game. I think David Carr did that too.

Projected to miss 2 weeks, but dunno how effective he’ll be even while back.

        • BearDown100393

          2-6 weeks now

          • AlbertInTucson

            Yeah, yeah.

First it was “Back Spasms. Should be OK for next week.”

            Now it’s “Fracture. Out 2-6”.

            Next…?

        • BerwynBomber

He’s also young (in football years). Romo was not.

And Jerra was always publicly rushing Romo back onto the field. Hopefully, OAK is a lot smarter with Carr. It sounds they intend to be.

      • Irish Sweetness

        Three weeks, max.

  • BearDown100393

Despite dumb penalties, the D has neutered Alex Smith.

  • BearDown100393

    Gruden selling hope!

  • AlbertInTucson

    Very entertaining contest.

    • AlbertInTucson

Unless you had the Redskins +7.

  • Irish Sweetness

I just saw what happened in LV. I read the whole blog before I got the story online, thought it was just some dude squeezing off a couple of rounds out of a window. Holy crap. No metal detectors??

    • EnderWiggin

      In hotels? Not yet.

  • AlbertInTucson

1 unbeaten left after 4 weeks and it’s NOT New England.

  • AlbertInTucson

The value of a mobile QB was pretty clearly on display this evening.

    • Even Cousins running for some cheap 1st downs makes a huge diff.

      • BerwynBomber

That was arguably the best I have seen Cousins play. He lit up the Cheese on a Mon night game last year but that was when the Cheese’s secondary and D looked Mel Tucker-like. And of course he lit us up at the end of last year but that also seemed flattest we looked during the Barkley run.
All of that said I thought Smith was facing more of pass rush most of game, which makes sense giving KC’s injuries on their O-line.
WAS is 2-2 but they look like a damn well-rounded team.

        • Their Dline is under rated, esp against the run.

Smith countered the pass rush though with hard counts. Vet move. But even so, he still got sacked more than usual, and he’s rather mobile and savvy.

Rob Kelly going out early made a diff. When the Foreskins establish the run early, they’re tough cuz that opens it up for Reed, Doctson, etc.

          • SC Dave

            A 32 yard run wasn’t bad either.

  • BerwynBomber

McDonough kept harping how the WAS WR should have made that catch in the EZ but that would have been one fuck of catch. The kid did well to make it as close as he did.

  • Doc Nitty

I heard the shooting was at a country western show. You gotta figure the chances are high that at least one of the people was dragged to the show by a friend and right before the shooting begin uttered, “shoot me now…oh shit!!

Too soon? Well if now ain’t the time to joke about it, when is?”

In other news, Tom Petty won’t be Runnin Down any more Dreams as he has Free Fallen right Into The Great Wide Open. His last words were to his heart, “Don’t Do Me Like That!”…A real Heartbreaker indeed. I

I know I know, Yer so bad…You Don’t Know How It Feels…big talk for a blog Refugee. Whatevs. I Won’t Back Down. I just hope he managed one Last Dance With Mary Jane.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

‘Yer so bad’, with jokes like that. Just ‘Don’t come around here no more’. It was obviously his ‘Time to Move On’ and you sit here, ‘Just a face in the Crowd’ making jokes. I really hope you have a ‘Change of Heart’ on what you think is funny. ‘I Don’t Know What to Say to You’ this is such a ‘Psychotic Reaction’ to his death.

    • SC Dave

      Wow… good work fellas
