Three Bears Thoughts For a Monday

| June 19th, 2017

Here they come! (I’m on vacation. They’ll be quick.)

1. Mitch Trubisky is not going to sit behind Mike Glennon long and I fully believe the primary reason will be Glennon folding under the pressure of “his year”. The more MG sees MT thrive in practice and preseason, the more he’ll press to keep hold of his tenuous starting gig. I’ll be shocked if Trubisky isn’t calling signals by the bye week.

2. Why would the Bears even consider putting Kyle Long or Danny Trevathan on the field this summer? Both guys are top players coming off serious injuries. Stick em on the bike and get them ready for the Falcons.

3. Asked two or my sources around the league if they think John Fox would be fired if the Bears had a difficult season. They answered with remarkable similarity. One said “it will all depend on the QB’s development.” The other said, “Only if Pace thinks he’s the guy to get most out of QB.” The Bears are all about Trubisky now.

  • Elect A Clown. Expect A Circus

Just look at the first 4 games:

    1) Falcons – with arguably even better defense than last year with the addition of Poe and Tak Mckinley
    2) Tampa Bay – powerhouse offense
    3) Steelers – always a tough out
    4) at Packers on short rest

Who in their right minds think Mitch Trubisky is going to do well in these first four games?

Who in their right minds would think Jay Cutler would have handled these first four games like breeze?

Any QB is going to have a hard time against these four opponents. So why should Mike Glennon be singled out if he struggles. He is expected to struggle like anyone else.

Stop the homerism. Offenses don’t fully gel until late November early December. Give Glennon 10-12 games to get a proper evaluation on him.

    • CanadaBear

The only way MT gets on the field before the bye is in a pkg or if MG gets injured and Sanchez isn’t available.

      • Elect A Clown. Expect A Circus

        Agreed

      • Irish Sweetness

If somebody got injured I could see them starting Shaw before Mitch.

They’re not going to throw him to the sharks when they’ve just said (to the tune of 18 million dollars) … “we’re not throwing you to the sharks”.

        • I would love to see Shaw 10/10 before Sanchize.

        • CanadaBear

Hard to say right now who gets cut (between Sanchez and Shaw) but you know they aren’t carrying 4 QB’s.

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

they were going to cut Shaw already this year before Sanchez got hurt.

          • CanadaBear

Not surprised. I would prefer they cut Sanchez but I’m guessing he’s MT’s mentor since MG will be busy running the O.

          • leftcoastdave

PUP him. Pay him on the PUP to be another coach. PUP Miller, Tre, Eddie, Long, as many as you can to let the competition play out in those positions while keeping a fatter roster of potential who need to show their stuff and be around in case the injury bug returns.

    • BearDown100393

      I see 4 wins there.

    • willbest

Since the last CBA, offenses have had an advantage the first 3-4 weeks of the season owing to the defenses not getting a lot of tackling reps in during camp. But you are right, Glennon is going to have to do worse than go 0-4 in my mind to get the hook. Now if he already has 10 INTs its time to go, but then that hasn’t been Glennon’s MO. I don’t know why Jeff somehow thinks Mitch Trubisky is going to get inside Glennon’s head. Dude has 18 million reasons to relax.

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

I thought Glennon’s MO was holding a clipboard on the sideline drawing doodles of a unicorn mating with a giraffe.

        • Scharfinator

He writes his name next to the giraffe and question marks next to the unicorn.
“When will I find my unicorn,” he wonders sadly, reflecting on his *HUMAN* wife.

    • Also gotta consider: who will develop the skill positions faster? –

Glennon w his experience of schemes, routes and nuisances, or Trub who is still working on taking snaps under center, footwork and terminolgy?

Pretty certain Saheen, Cohen, and White would prefer an experienced QB at this point

      • Elect A Clown. Expect A Circus

        That’s a good point.

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

    MT by game 3!

    • BearDown100393

Wow, you’d pull Giraffe after a 2-0 start?

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

naw he is going to the bench because of a sprained neck.

        • BearDown100393

          Got it.

“The more MG sees MT thrive in practice and preseason”

    Hang on a second partner.

    Preseason?

    But isn’t preseason MEANINGLESS?

    • willbest

      You are en fuego today.

    • Not if it reinforces jeff’s narrative

    • AlbertInTucson

Because backups get so MANY reps in practice.

  • AlbertInTucson

“2. Why would the Bears even consider putting Kyle Long or Danny Trevathan on the field this summer?”

Because OTAs are SUCH a good idea.

    Panthers’,Jalen Ramsey: Core surgery..

Saints’ starting left tackle, Terron Armisted,: Torn Labrum. Out at least half the season.

    • And yet fans bitch about quality while the HCs unanimously agree it’s directly linked to lack of practice time, esp at QB w only so many reps.
      Damned if u, damned if u don’t

    • leftcoastdave

PUP list ’em both with Miller and Eddie Jackson. You want depth, we got depth, coming out six weeks into the season. Let the rest fight it out until then.

  • SC Dave

I love how two “sources” speculating suddenly makes the Bears “all about Trubisky”. Jeff is giving the narrative such a hard sell it’s almost comical.

    • BearDown100393

      “All about Trubisky”

Tell that to the other 50 guys on the roster.

  • “I fully believe the primary reason will be Glennon folding under the pressure of “his year” – Jeff

Ever heard of the wishful thinking fallacy?

Jeff’s high drafted QB fetish is beginning to remind me of that drunk who quits cold turkey (Cargo) but immediately converts into a gym freak or jesus fanatic.

    Needs a new fix

    Slow ur roll, Jeff!

    Enjoy the ride.

    Trubs time shall come.

    • King of DBB

I’ll be shocked if Trubisky isn’t calling signals by the bye week.

Jeff – prepare to be shocked.

    • Elect A Clown. Expect A Circus

eggsactly. Future belongs to Trub. There is no doubt about it. Let him settle in. Let him learn his new footwork. Why the rush?

QB is the de facto leader of the team. Trub is not ready to lead the team this year. In fact, some players are not even talking to him. The locker room is not ready to accept Trub as a starter over Glennon.

      ——
But good luck figuring out how Trubisky — the second overall pick — is fitting in outside of the quarterbacks room. That kind of respect has to be earned, and no rookie, regardless of draft status, can break through immediately with some of the veterans.

“I don’t talk to rookies,” Bears defender Akiem Hicks said. “Unless he’s one of mine, unless he’s a defensive lineman, I don’t talk to rookies. I can’t say how he’s fitting in, because I don’t talk to him.”

      http://www.espn.com/blog/nfcnorth/post/_/id/77592/reviews-of-mitchell-trubisky-mostly-positive-at-bears-minicamp

      • Irish Sweetness

Hicks sounds like a prick. Who the fuck does he think he is??

        • That’s pretty common in any locker room, Irish.

Supposedly, Welker tried treating Aaron Hernandez like a rook in the film room, and Hernandez went all Blood on him, so Welker just scampered away to get mint julep in his pink suit at the Derby.

But if you’re not a psychopathic closeted serial killer, you sorta just take it as a rook.

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CgUGjRFukQ

          • Irish Sweetness

            Yeah, but teamwork ….

          • CanadaBear

I totally agree with ya and I went through a bit of a hazing from the guys working in the field when I would get out of the Control Room back in the day. Once the guys were sure I knew my stuff and wouldn’t try to get them into trouble, they were fine. Just the usual initiation process.

          • To me, it’s always been the norm.

Rodney Harrison relayed a story that as a rook he didn’t want to sing or carry pads or do all the rook stuff. As he said, “I came here to play football”
            What did the vets do?

They stripped him naked, threw his bare ass in the elevator, and pressed all the buttons.

Every rook gets their paddling, and as long as it’s not extreme, just part of the initiation ceremony.

          • CanadaBear

There have been a lot of rookies duct taped to the goal posts.

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Coroner’s reports are public information. Doesn’t take a lawyer to figure that one out.

        • willbest

          Yes and No.

The state does not require the coroner to investigate every death. If it is not mandated by the state, then its done privately at the request of the next of kin (and paid for by them).

I am a bit surprised that the death of a 60 year old known drug user that did not appear to die to suspicious circumstances would be something the state of CA would spend its money on.

Further, many states take the position that the autopsy is a medical exam and entitled to privacy as such. In fact, just perusing a few states I imagine there are 51 different laws regarding the release of coroner’s reports.

CA seems to only protect coroner reports in the case of children. But there are other states where you can only get the report if you are immediate family, the police, or the attorney general of the state.

          • I honestly don’t see the point in anyone but the family (and law enforcement and lawyers if the death has criminal/legal ramifications) getting the coroner’s report.

It seems like it should be protected much like hospital records (unless an individual signs off on making their report public much like checking the organ donation box).

          • willbest

I generally take that view, however if Jack Nicholson died tomorrow and tested positive for HIV, the 1000s of women he has boffed on his viagra fueled benders might like to know about it.

          • that’s where the criminal/legal clause would kick in

      • willbest

If so, way to go Jeff.

      • SC Dave

I would consult them about boating.

  • I figured a player or two would be ill-fits in the 9ers new D.

I thought Armstead intriguing coming out, and def a 3-4 dude.

Maybe a 4rth? 9ers like our picks, after all

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat questions whether RE Arik Armstead will play on passing downs this season.

Beat writer Grant Cohn suggests Armstead could get subbed out in passing situations for Ahmad Brooks and/or Elvis Dumervil, effectively limiting Armstead to an early-down, run-stuffer role.
DeForest Buckner and Solomon Thomas are expected to be San Francisco’s defensive tackles in sub-packages. Under the Trent Baalke regime, Armstead was picked 17th overall in the 2015 draft. – roto

  • beninnorcal

Why is Glennon being written off before he even takes a snap? I don’t think I agree with Jeff’s prediction. I think Glennon plays some decent ball and the rookie sits. As he should.

    • willbest

Because Trubisky is The Way and The Truth. All other QBs are imposters. Do not worship false idols

    • Irish Sweetness

“Mitch Trubisky is not going to sit behind Mike Glennon long and I fully believe the primary reason will be Glennon folding under the pressure of “his year”.”

So a vet like Glennon “folds” only for a kid that nobody thinks is ready to come in and save the day?

      We’ll see.

      • SC Dave

And its not even Darnold he’s folding for

    1. Too tough to call, Glennon might have an awesome performance with something to prove or he could stink.

    2. TOTALLY AGREE.

    3. The Bears HAVE to be “all about Trubisky”, what choice do they have at this point? Fox is gone regardless, IF the Bears finish under 500 this season. If they have a “decent” showing, He’ll be allowed back in 2018.

On a side note: WTF is this all about. I don’t like the Packers but this guy has a right to wear his colors. This Yahoo writer is a douche.

And Lance’s lawyers don’t want Lemond and Betsey Andreu testifying or let the reasoned decision admitted into the proceedings. This is gonna be fun to follow. Floyd doesn’t exactly live up to his Amish heritage but he’s a choir boy next to Lance. Armstrong truly is a world class heel.

Great humor. Dude gets 25% of the award, but you cannot question his motivation? His character is going to be an issue.

    • willbest

Because its bad for their case. Incidentally, this is the sort of thing that if I were a judge I would just auto-sanction the prosecutor over. You are always allowed to introduce evidence attacking a witness’s credibility. So this prosecutor is just wasting time and money.

I will note that I am well outside the mainstream in terms of my willingness to sanction lawyers though. I had a particularly bad experience with a 15-attornery firm burying me in paperwork because they could. We had their client dead to rights and it was just about delaying things for 2.5 years.

I would like to hear his detractors explain that away. He got lucky?

      • willbest

I am pretty sure that was the game I thought Matt Stafford was concussed.

      • Johnnywad

Hahahaha. Ok. Try this. Cuz it was the very next week.

“Targeted eight times in coverage, he gave up 106 yards on four catches, and was beaten on more passes than that but benefited from a dropped pass by Davante Adams and an overthrow by Aaron Rodgers. It was LeBlanc who was beaten for the big catch to set up the game-winner, which summed up his day pretty well.”

        • Irish Sweetness

That’s what I mean, explain the previous week though. Can a bad player have a great game? Let me do a Jefe, and extend it to golf …

Nobody …. no how … is ever going to play a great round of golf, by chance, if their handicap is 36 … if they even had a handicap to begin with. Nobody will ever shoot a 4 under at Pebble Beach if they suck at golf.

How does LeBlanc play a semi-perfect game in this scenario?

Now good players can have bad days .. but I don’t think you can go the other way.

          • Great. Just what we need.
            The Jay Cutler of cornerbacks.

          • Irish Sweetness

            Touche.

          • Johnnywad

Sure a bad player can have a good day. Particularly so in football as there are more variables than one can count. His receiver may be off, the opposing quarterback may be off, or just suck, his DL may blow it up that day, injuries to the opponents offensive line, and so on.

One thing I’m pretty confident about, is that Cre’von LeBlanc is not and NFL quality starter.
