Second Preseason Game Day Thread

| August 19th, 2017

Three thoughts for tonight:

  • Jordan Howard isn’t playing. And Jordan Howard shouldn’t be touched by another defender until that defender is wearing the uniform of the Atlanta Falcons. Running backs only have so much wear and tear in their bodies. Howard’s style – tough, bruising, absorbing contact – will have less than most.
  • In the absence of Howard, will the Bears start Tarik Cohen? He was first off the bench a week ago. I think they’re making a mistake if they try to use this kid as an every down back. Kick returner. Third down, scat back. 3-5 carries as a change of pace.
  • This is truly a rough spot for Mike Glennon tonight. He will be under an immense amount of pressure and facing one of the feistiest secondaries in the sport. It just seems the stars are aligning for Mitch Trubisky to take this gig. (And in case I haven’t made it clear, that’s in the best interest of the Bears organization moving forward.)

  • Irish Sweetness

No injuries, that’s all. Hope Gummo and Mitch have good games. That is all.

Our RB roster – like our OL – has not been well stocked. We have no Jordan #2. Nobody with size to do what he does. With Jordan out, we are very one-dimensional on offense. I believe a roster should have another guy like your #1 guy in the eventuality he can’t go … y’know … a backup. Cohen is not a backup to Jordan. He’s a little guy that you do little guy things with.

Looks like Pace picked a good QB in Mitchell, thus far anyway. But the LB corps aren’t exactly killers, the DBs?? (and we need see no more of DHC or Prosinski) The OL is only another injury away from being dogshit. This will be a long season. I don’t see a roster that’s going anywhere near a super bowl.

Let’s see how the boys go with Arizona.

    • SC Dave

There is time left to get some castoffs, which it seems we need on the O-line. I have more faith in Carey than you, but he’s certainly not Howard caliber.

      • Bender McLugh

Agree on Carey, if he stays healthy he’s a good #2

        • leftcoastdave

And showing up on special teams big time.

        • CanadaBear

Not sure if he’s a good #2 but you know he will be like an insane badger going 100%. Gotta love that! He reminds me of Weems. I know Weems was a WR but they have the same attitude, esp on ST’s. A little short on talent but hungry as a mofo.

          • Bender McLugh

            Huuungry

      • willbest

The castoff pile for O-line is always garbage.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

so how close does the backup you seek need to be to Jordan in size?

      • Johnnywad

Carey is only 7 pounds lighter. That should do.

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Thats what I thought too. Cunningham is 5 pounds lighter. Irish keeps preaching it and I just don’t understand.

          • willbest

Irish wants 3 RB sets, a QB and 7 300+ pounders blocking.

          • CanadaBear

But the Bears are good at WR.

    • CanadaBear

If only the Bears would have taken Fournette instead of MT.

      • leftcoastdave

Speaking of out with an injury, so is the heat seeking missile in SF Reuben Foster. I thought it would be the chronic concussions but it is his shoulder, again.

        • DaBearsBlog

Teams had Foster off their boards because of the shoulder.

    • It’s hard for any team to stock TWO 1,500 yd HBs.
Falcons perhaps only team, but then u have to worry about sinking too much cap at HB
Isn’t Jaamal Charles still out there?

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

        Charles is in Denver

  • SC Dave

I second the notion that Howard see limited action in preseason. Not worth the risk.

Expect a lot of Cunningham and Carey tonight. I think those two are the “bubble” guys (unfortunately, since it is Langford that should get cut first).

    • Bender McLugh

Right, Cunningham, forgot about him. Haven’t seen him yet, we should get a good idea between him & Carey over Langford. I’d like to see all 4 kept going into the season but that won’t happen, can’t happen. Langfords window closing

      • SC Dave

        Locks: Howard, Cohen

That leaves Cunningham, Careu, and Langford. Thinking we keep two. You know who I want, er, don’t want.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

good news Langford is not playing tonight either so we will see a lot from the other guys.

  • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In
    • CanadaBear

It would be different if Unrein was a fabulous DLman but that’s not the case. Totally agree. Free up a spot and let Unrein do spot duty at both positions.

      • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

Unless Jaye Howard/CJ Wilson, Bullard, etc steps up and we remain healthy at D line they will probably feel like they can never risk him at Fullback….uh, even if it means guaranteed touchdowns. Remember, the goal of this season is not to win, it’s to stay employed as GM with Trubisky on the sidelines.

These coaches and evaluators of the Bears make a lot of money and they have to see the same tape and results that we see as mere spectators. There is no good reason to take a known quantity like Unrein at FB and simply choose not to put him in spot positions.

        • CanadaBear

I think Pace wants to win as much as he wants to stay employed. Unless they have plans to use a FB in their base offense, If that’s the case they would need a designated FB. Kinda doubt that’s the case here.

          • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

they brought Michael Burton in but the Loggains offense barely uses a fullback. I love the fullback position but the Bears continue to trot out H backs, tight ends in the backfield, etc. Pretty much every option that is not as effective as Unrein.

Putting Unrein back there is guaranteed results. Teams will get overly aggressive and you then do playaction. it’s not fucking hard but we refuse to do it. It’s enough to make me not want to watch. That’s how little sense it makes.

          • CanadaBear

Not sure how useful Unrein would be other than goal line duty. He’s not exactly a threat to run or go out on a route.

          • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

8 plays…..8 TD’s. Coaches out think themselves all of the time.

Unrein in game you either run or pass, you don’t need him to catch passes, you need him to blow people the fuck up and cause destruction. I’d rather see him at fullback than some shitty TE trying to block a Dlineman any day of the week.

          • CanadaBear

I agree but if he’s zero threat to carry the ball or go out for a pass, the D can use that to their advantage. If I was Unrein, I think I’d get a jugs machine and practice catching the ball.

          • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

haha, Dan Brown and Zach Miller are no threat to block either. Cuts both ways!

          • I don’t know why Hub or Moon don’t call Fox out on it.

            Fucking PUT HIM IN.

All they do is score when he’s at FB.

Hate those fucking Hbacks (rodriquez anyone?)

          • leftcoastdave

Both Unrein and Bullard looked good against the Horses. The position is thin tonight so we will see the alphabet getting a lot of playing time with RRH, KLM and CJ Wilson.

    • BuddhaJoe

I think it’s because they don’t have enough depth on the D-line and they don’t want him to be gassed.. Burton will be good if they keep a FB, I watched him play on the Lions and the only reason they let him go is because they stopped using a FB.

  • CanadaBear

Last post Jeff railed about how shitty Glennon is. This post he feels sorry for him. Next post … a eulogy?

I think Jordan needs a few snaps in the PS just to get back in the groove a little bit. Like everyone else says, he doesn’t need to pound the rock in PS. Benny and Carey will get the workload tonight. If they both look decent, Langford is definitely behind the 8-ball.

    • DaBearsBlog

Hard not to feel sorry for Glennon. It’s not his fault he stinks.

And if he struggles tonight and Trubisky is good, he’s going to start getting booed loudly. It will get ugly for him.

      • Hope Glennon aviods Bull’s games….

        oh ye fickle fans!

      • BuddhaJoe

He doesn’t stink, he’s just meh. He put up unimpressive but OK numbers on a completely dogshit team.

      • CanadaBear

I like him more than you Jeff. At the end of the day I think he’s as effective as Cutler. Way less talent and wow throws but fewer INT’s. No doubt he’s been given the short straw in his pro career. Oh well. As far as the Bears fans go, if you aren’t smart enough to shut up when your team is in the red zone …

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

the reason he was given the short straw is because he wasn’t very good.

          • CanadaBear

No doubt he’s nothing special but after an OK year for a rookie to get Lovied and then have the #1 pick in the draft come in, go sign with another team and have the #2 pick in the draft come in is tough to say the least.

        • willbest

There is an interesting bet. Who has the better season. Cutler has injury risk and Glennon has Trubisky risk.

          • The correct answer is Hoyer.

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

            you should be slapped.

          • BuddhaJoe

You should be stoned for that comment.

          • leftcoastdave

You mean he was stoned when he made that comment.

      • Corporal Clott

This reminds me of the story my Dad told me about his first job as an engineer for a mining company in Australia. The first mine he had to work at was in a very remote location so on the weekends, to keep the men happy, the Company would bus in women to the dance hall they had built for the workers so they could blow off some steam. My Dad said the only women they could get to come were ugly to down right hideous but after a few Beers, the miners would start loosening up and they’d have a good old time.

A couple of years later my Dad went back to the mine on a business trip only to discover that because there were so few women in the area, the miners had ending up getting married to all the ugly women.

Be thankful Pace drafted Trubinsky guys, be very thankful.

  • CanadaBear

Here’s a couple of funny ones about Blake Bortles not being all that! Check out the vid of the guy throwing out the first pitch. Who doesn’t like seeing a fat guy take one in the nads?

    https://www.si.com/extra-mustard/2017/08/18/blake-bortles-chad-henne-jacksonville-jaguars-tweets

  • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

Carey not playing tonight. he really took one on the thigh last game on that kickoff. langford out, howard out…
Looks like we’ll have a long look at Cohen, Cunningham and a whole bunch of one yard runs by Joshua Rounds. I hope they get a look at both fullbacks and use the shit out of our slot receivers to see if Cruz will stick on the squad.

    • Deum. Carey REALLY needed to show he could battle with the 1sts

I’m pulling for him esp since he learned to play specials, but the maths doesn’t look good for him.

Rounds was sloooow. I wanna call him Short Round cuz he runs like a lil asian kid (racist?)

I do wanna see Benny the Jet, so at least there’s that

  • BuddhaJoe

Damn Jeff again with this? Did he fuck your girl or something? If Fox dumps Glennon because of the 2nd preseason game, he’s an idiot. And if he starts Trub behind a line that’s missing it’s best player, he’s even dumber.

  • Players of interest.

OG Morgan and Grasu (obvious reasons)
LB Kwiat (can he make a play and not just be white?)
WR Gentry (keep the momentum going?)
TE Saheen (wanna see him box out and score)
    DL Howard (Healthy?)
DL Bullard (looked good. Keep it going)
CB All of them – SOMEBODY make a fucking play.

Cohen – lil fuck is jus exciting to watch. Wanna see him return one to the house!

    • BuddhaJoe

Agree with all of this, especially Grassu since Cody might have to take over LG. Hoping Pussy Fuller can do something since Prince is apparently hurt AGAIN.

      • and Cooper has a hammy.

Like I said in my inj sneak preview, we’re going to see Unrein at DE and LeBlanc and McMannis at CB starting games before season’s end.

        Yikes.

        • BuddhaJoe

I’m OK with Unrein, he’s just a guy but he’s not a liability. The rest, yeah.

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

well I might be pissed tonight, TV schedule through my cable box does not show the Bears game tonight. I am hoping that is just a mistake.

    • beninnorcal

Replay is on nfln at 0100, tonight, pacific time. Thats probably how I’ll watch.

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

i guess that helps a little

  • Well, that settles it.

Fun fact, parts of that movie were filmed at a pizzeria about five minutes away from my current apartment. Their pizza is fucking terrible, but they’re open till 4AM so the late night drunks keep them in business

My last Madden was 09. I really should get a around to updating that.

      • Mines was 10.

I think that’s the last yr Lach was on it.

        • AlbertInTucson

Can you update Tecmo Super Bowl…?

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

            yes

          • AlbertInTucson

If only I still had a gaming system.

  • BuddhaJoe

Too bad it’s not on TV around here. I’m in Ludington on a mini vacation and our favorite dive bar here is owned by a guy who’s a big Bears fan, that could’ve been fun. Oh well, just took a walk down to Lake Michigan an hour ago and walked on the pier, awesome.

  • Corporal Clott

Cutler’s last stand or Glennon’s? Hee hee

Wow, Jeff’s really getting into these meaningless games this year…I totally dig it!

    • CanadaBear

Check out the vid I posted. You’ll like it!

  • If the Bears show promise this yr, they could produce a MONSTER off-season in 18.

    We’re in cap heaven.

As of now, we’re, what, $18M under?

Naturally we’ll extend some, like Hicks and Leno, but we’ll also cut some extra fat (Houston?) so Bears will likely hover at that $18M

But more importantly, Bears will have a (premier) QB (Trub), pass rusher (Floyd), HB (Howard) on CHEAP contracts. QB and Rush esp are expensive typically, so we’d be saving a lot of cap there.
    Add to that Whitehair

And if Saheen, Jackson, Cohen and even Meredith emerge, that’s more bang for your buck.

Our window might start in ’18 like SEA when they had Wilson on that rookie contract.

Just hope Pace doesn’t continue being a tight ass and actually lands some blue-chip FAs as opposed to the buy one get one free variety.

    • willbest

Paying Houston is criminal. I think we have given him somewhere around 2.4 million dollars a sack.

      • Including one where he tore his ACL.

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

sometimes you just feel like dancing.

    • when your best players are on years 3-4 of their contracts is your best window. For Bears, that will hopefully be 2018-2020.

      • That’s what I’m thinking.
Bears just have to look on the upswing so that we can recruit FAs without having to overpay them absurdly.
Supposedly we couldn’t get real CBs this past FA because they preferred getting paid by winners.

Only question is if Fox going to be the HC for that window?

He’s halfway out the door now, and I’m sure Pace wants his own HC and not some dude the Think Tank stuck him with.

OTH, do we really want Trub to start over with another system?

Be interesting to see how it goes.

  • Got called back, but Adoree Jackson looks exciting on PR.

Was hoping he’d slide to us in the 2nd rd since he also balls at CB.

  • AlbertInTucson

I’ll get to see it live tonight. One of the local stations airs the Cardinals pre-season games.

  • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

haha, no fucking way. Per Bear Beat Reporter Zach Zaidman Jordan Howard may have a detached retina. Season and career in jeopardy. Eye actually fell out at practice after accidental poke from Louis Kapron Moore. Witnesses claim kapron Moore’s ring finger penetrated Howard’s eye socket popping the eyeball out like a cherry pit.

      No can be.

    • willbest

Sucks to be him, he was 1 competent season away from generational wealth.

    • Corporal Clott

So you’re saying Jordan only see’s half the field?

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

probably still good for 1000 yards.

  • Bills are having their own #playDaKid syndrome.

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/08/18/nathan-peterman-doesnt-hear-the-calls-for-him-to-start/#comments

My boi Peterman making Tyrod Taylor look over his shoulder already.

Remembere when we all wanted Tyrod? He had a QB rating of 12 in his first PS game, which I guess is technically still 12 more than Glennon…

I was actually kinda hoping we’d still get Peterman in the later rds, pull a Foreskins/Cousins.

I think that guy is going to be at least servicable with some upside.

  • Bender McLugh

The D looks to be pretty healthy going into the game, first team should get a good push, another Floyd sack is in the air. Hicks mebbe too

  • BearDown100393

They are who we thought they were.

    • Johnnywad

      Man those were good times.

  • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

anyone know why i can’t watch a Bears game and i live in Chicago? Why is the game blacked out?

    • AlbertInTucson

Only being aired on some local cable system that you don’t subscribe to…?

      Just guessing.

      • AlbertInTucson

I know Chicagoans used to gripe about CLTV’s lack of availability.

      • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

i paid for the GamePass. it’s the only game blacked out. I’m reaching my frustration limit with the NFL.

        • Maybe it’s the featured game on NFLN?

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

            nope – 49ers v Broncos

          • Damn. Chicagoans getting proper fucked.

I’m being penalized for not having cable. I have the Sling TV app. It allows me to watch Fox32 which the game is on. When the game starts at 9pm the content will mysteriously become unavailable. Collusion at it’s finest.

        • madscout12

FOX is the worst at that. I used to pay for the MLB streaming package. Any Saturday game on FOX would be blacked out automatically, regardless if I was in an area where they were broadcasting that game. Didn’t matter.

I lived in Southern IN at the time and as a Sox fan, wanted to watch my Sox. Fox chose to show the Tigers vs Boston or some shit, and blacked out the game on MLB package. Fuck em.

    Boom!

Colts’kicker just got a hard lesson in “Keep your head on a swivel, even AWAY from the play.” from a Cowboy.

The hit drew a flag but the kicker was not in any condition to be aware of that.

    • I’m checking out the Chiefs-Bengals.

I’m sure I’ll catch the highlight to that kicker.

      • AlbertInTucson

We’re getting Colts-Cowboys live on NFL Network.
Bears live on local Tucson TV in just about an hour.

      • AlbertInTucson

That will make SportsCenter. The guy got absolutely lit up.

    • AlbertInTucson

The kicker looked to be about the size of Garo Ypremian.

The guy who blindsided him was only about twice as big.

Arians reamed his receivers this week except for Fitzgerald and Jauron Brown.

As for “Feistiest Secondary”, they lost a good safety, Tony Jefferson to FA and the corner position opposite Patrick Peterson is unsettled. The guy they WANT to see win that job hasn’t really stepped up over the guy they aren’t all choked up about.

Buchanan is recovering from an injury.

No Calais Campbell on their D anymore, either.

    • AlbertInTucson

They are hoping 2016 1st round pick, Robert Nkemdiche, steps up after being all but invisible as a rookie when he was either on the injured list or just ineffective when he was in the lineup. He showed pretty well last week vs The Raiders.

    • It looks like some one ate Jim Miller and took over his identity.

  • AlbertInTucson

So, all thru their pre-game show, locally, has been audio crosstalk from the Spanish broadcast.

    All 30 minutes worth.

Is no one involved in the broadcast listening to their feed?

    STILL hasn’t been corrected.

    • BearDown100393

      Spanish in Arizona.
Those guys are going to get detained.

    • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

Cartel took over the station. #SinaloaTV.

  • Glennon would fit right in with the MormonTabernacle Choir.

    • BearDown100393

      The singing Mormon giraffe.
That’ll be worth a few carrots.

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

a singing giraffe would be worth MILLIONS!!!

        • BearDown100393

Mrs. Giraffe gets the $. Giraffes eat carrots.

  • BearDown100393

Com’on Giraffe, show some gumption tonight to shutdown the front page braying for a few hours.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Benny the Jet. Nice return.

    • AlbertInTucson

Cardinal special teams coverage was an issue for them last season.

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

    man i love WR screens.

    • AlbertInTucson

Well, it WAS a Kevin White sighting.

  • AlbertInTucson

NFL Net uses the home team broadcasts

I will be interest to see if they get the crosstalk issue.

  • madscout12

Forecasting the fuck out of that play.

  • AlbertInTucson

Bears won the toss and took the ball. I would NEVER do that.

  • madscout12

    Atta way, megapunt.

    • He’s looking WAAAY better at pinning.

If he gets those coffin corner punts down, he’ll be a weapon.

    • Irish Sweetness

Was just watching Tress Way. Looks good.

  • BearDown100393

    Over/Under 1st Anti-Glennon tweet of the night – 10 minutes?

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

i will take the over. my guess is Jeff doesn’t tweet till morning.

  • Grasu SUUCKS

One play the DT went right through him
    Another he got knocked back
Another on a screen he whiffed on the S coming to tackle

    • AlbertInTucson

So, you’re saying you’d recognize him even in a blank jersey?

  • AlbertInTucson

    95 yard drive imminent?

    • BearDown100393

We’re gonna run that one legged gimp back into his end zone.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Holding. Of. Course.

  • madscout12

Why is our secondary full of complete fucking morons.

    • AlbertInTucson

      No pressure, either.

  • madscout12

That better be the first thing the D sees on tape on Monday. Fucking holding call when it wasn’t needed, then they flip the field.

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Fuller made a play, who knew.

  • AlbertInTucson

    A stop?!

    Huzzah!

    • madscout12

      That’ll do, pig. That’ll do.

  • AlbertInTucson

    No way that should stand.

    • madscout12

      We’re the Bears…it will.

      • madscout12

        Wow…how bout that.

      • AlbertInTucson

Replay tells me Eddie blew it.

        • madscout12

Truth. Got lucky on that one.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Bad execution by the rookie.

    • Prolly a lil nervous.

Let’s hope he got stupid out of his system.

      • AlbertInTucson

He took his eyes off the ball. Muffed it before he was hit.

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

          should have fair caught

  • Freeman already looking in midseason form.
He was on Johnson like white on rice

Is it me, or is our 3rd down D horrible?

Seems like other teams always converting long 3rd downs on us.

Dunno if that’s lack of pass rush or what.

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

our backup RBs are looking good.

  • madscout12

Why are we providing tape on our best kept secret to protect our QB?

  • EnderWiggin

    Crowd sounds half-Bear.

    • BearDown100393

      half-Bear half-clueless

    • AlbertInTucson

Always so in Phoenix. Same for Cowboy and Bronco games there.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Late, poor throw.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

lucky the DB did not jump it for a pick 6

      • AlbertInTucson

Smart enough not to challenge Peterson.

    • madscout12

      No timing. No anticipation. Trash.

  • madscout12

Bears are winning, guys. It matters.

    • AlbertInTucson

Can we declare victory and go home?.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

If Trubs started it would be 35-0 already

      • madscout12

        You’re not wrong.

      • BearDown100393

The Cardinals would’ve already walked off the field in protest.

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Zombie Dennis Green would have risen from the grave to have a tantrum in post game press conference.

          • BearDown100393

And we let’em off the hook!

  • Glennon just staring down receiver. Poor anticipation/ball placement.

Those bootlegs with him are a joke. No D is going to respect Glennnon bootlegging. He runs like a dad.

More I see of Cohen, the more I want him in.

The difference between him and others is laughable. He’s just so spry. Has he had a play less than 4 yds?

    Benny looking good too.

Meredith needs to block a lil better.

White still looks like he’s thinking instead of playing.

    • BearDown100393

It must suck worrying about breaking your leg before every snap.

    • AlbertInTucson

Wisely using Cohen in measured doses.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Bullard makes his mark.

    • EnderWiggin

Haha, my stream is a few seconds behind. I read that and thought “Sweet, here comes a sack.” Then… I see the yellow flag flying through the air.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Hmmm. Back to back pressure.

  • madscout12

    Good play by LeBlanc.

    • BearDown100393

      Joey

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

no not Joey, that idiot they got on Top Gear now.

  • AlbertInTucson

Baaad kick. I would want to make Jackson try and field another one.

    • It looks like Jackson can’t track a punt or something.

Gotta keep sending him out there though to see if he can handle it or not.

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

maybe he is not used to playing indoors.

  • Irish Sweetness

    D-FENS!!!!

  • madscout12

Glennon: 4/5 for 10 yards. What an improvement.

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

    damn I am lovin Cohen!

    • The human joystick!

      Also, my porn name.

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

you are lucky, mine is ‘OOOH Wait, damn not again, AHHHH!!!”

  • AlbertInTucson

    Cardinal fans cannot be pleased.

    • BearDown100393

      Both of them.

  • Irish Sweetness

    Cohen 12 YPC?

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

      8-9 ypc

  • madscout12

The Cardinal broadcasters sure like to talk about Russell Wilson.

    • EnderWiggin

The only thing Glennon related worth mentioning.

  • madscout12

Oooo…saw that bad Glennon throw again. Merideth was playing DB. Would have been picked otherwise.

  • That stretch run setting up those bootleg drags, though it looks kinda clumsy with Glennon.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Cardinal stupidity.

  • madscout12

Cohen good for 9 carries and 72 yards. 8ypc. That’ll work. Wait till they actually use him in the passing game as well. I hope they use him in the passing game too.

  • BearDown100393

    Arizona sucks.

  • BearDown100393

Cohen have a bonus for pre-season yardage?

  • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

Haha, how did anyone not in the NFL tackle Cohen in college?

  • Burton just looks SOLID. Stout at POA

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Damn Glennon likes staring down WRs.

    • BearDown100393

      Sigh. Yep.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Oops.

  • Does Grasu EVER go forward?

  • BearDown100393

    RIP Giraffe
    Starting Quarterback
    August 2017 – August 2017

    • madscout12

He was looking at him from the snap.

      • BearDown100393

        Must be neck lock.

    • Irish Sweetness

That’s our backup in the future.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Late, bad #2.

    • madscout12

Trubs better look average. Cause if he doesn’t than this town will hang Fox for not having a legit competition.

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Wait, what was that? Is that a Safety??? Haven’t seen one in years.

  • What a TERRIBLE throw.

  • Irish Sweetness

    Oh Gummo ….

  • BearDown100393

Admit it, Mitch is grinning inside.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Touche’

  • BearDown100393

    Joey!

  • AlbertInTucson

Good no call. You can always overturn it and bring it back.

    • BearDown100393

      And they will.

      • AlbertInTucson

        I think he was down.

  • Irish Sweetness

    Go Eddie ….

  • You think that secondary wants a TO?

  • Irish Sweetness

    D-FENS!!!

  • BearDown100393

    Jeff Triplett is drunk.

  • madscout12

    Looks down.

  • BearDown100393

    Our D is pounding Palmer.

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Fuller making an open field tackle…. someone wants to stay on the team.

    • EnderWiggin

      He’s about 14 months late.

  • madscout12

    Good tackle by….holy shit Fuller.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Palmer is getting drilled, regularly.

  • AlbertInTucson

    That’s was too easy.

  • Palmer is getting drilled

  • ButtonShoes

Cardinals have a terrible offensive line.

    • AlbertInTucson

It was an issue last season, too.

      • ButtonShoes

Yup, they haven’t fixed it. It’s Colts-level bad.

        • AlbertInTucson

Palmer sacked 40 times in a lot less than 16 games.

          • madscout12

Just what you want for your injury prone aged QB.

    • BearDown100393

Send them Grasu for a pick.

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

        they are missing Massie.

      • ButtonShoes

I’d be up for that. Maybe with their desperation we could snag a 4th?

  • madscout12

    Glennon with a 45.60 QBR

  • AlbertInTucson

    Shitty fade by Palmer.

  • madscout12

That’s a fumble and our ball.

    • AlbertInTucson

      No.

  • madscout12

Catch the ball, you 1st round washout.

  • AlbertInTucson

    So, Bears.

  • BearDown100393

    Turrible.

  • AlbertInTucson

I suspect that is last the Bears see of Mr. Palmer tonight.

  • AlbertInTucson

Chris Johnson has loss some giddyap.

Regular season, DAVID Johnson is getting those carries.

  • meh. 4 downs to score from 4 yds out. That was actually a well defended play. They wanted to go out to the flats but that was covered.

Floyd needs to jump a lil higher there coming in

On the previous play the Dline blew them up.

Tell you what, Bullard is looking like a beast.

If Goldman, Hicks and Bullard stay healthy, that is going to be a tough unit

    • ButtonShoes

The big thing is “if.” Hicks seems healthy enough and Bullard didn’t seem to have any injury issues, but Eddie has never been healthy for a full season. Keeps getting those high ankle sprains.

    • AlbertInTucson

Meh, the aging CHRIS Johnson instead of DAVID had a lot to do with That.

  • Irish Sweetness

    Timu. SMH.

  • I was hoping we’d get Gresham in FA last season.
    He’s solid.

  • ButtonShoes

Are they bringing Glennon back in? Why are they keeping up this charade? Start Trubisky you dumb MFers.

    • madscout12

Let him hang himself. He’s doing fine at it.

      • ButtonShoes

He really is, isn’t he? Holy fuck he is awful.

  • beninnorcal

anyone have a link to the game?

  • Irish Sweetness

Is the Mitchell Bunch on next?

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

    that should have been picked

  • AlbertInTucson

This is Cardinal 2s on d now.

  • BearDown100393

Bad Jay Giraffe or Giraffe Bad Cutler?

    • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

Do not put Glennon in the same fucking sentence as Cutler. Blasphemous.

      • BearDown100393

        Dorsal fin!

      • Corporal Clott

        Is he that bad? Hahahaha

  • AlbertInTucson

    Bad throw, Part 3.

  • King of DBB

    Man Glennon sucks

  • madscout12

Why? Why does he suck soooooo much?

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

I thought one of Glennon’s positives is that he doesn’t turn the ball over

  • BerwynBomber

Glennon looks horrible in two preseason games. There is just no other way to cut it.

    • King of DBB

      His accuracy is a joke

    • EnderWiggin

He’s not done yet. I smell a pick.

      • AlbertInTucson

That should be his last snap tonight.

    • AlbertInTucson

      SMH.

  • ButtonShoes

You asked for a QB controversy, Bears. Well now you really fuckin’ have one.

    • BerwynBomber

Not really. Trisky has been the future ever since the draft. Now he just might be the present.

      • ButtonShoes

I bet after this game that Fox says that Glennon is still the starter.

        • BerwynBomber

He could. And Glennon could very well be the starter in W1 regardless of preseason. But if he plays like this he’ll be on the sidelines a couple/few weeks into the season.

  • Irish Sweetness

    He’s a Cylon. Airlock. Now.

  • BerwynBomber

Hell, maybe Lovie was right … about Glennon.

    • ButtonShoes

I don’t know how anyone could have watched Glennon in Tampa and come away with the notion that he was good at being a QB. There was a reason he was benched for Josh McCown.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Glennons stats in TB came from garbage time jump balls to V Jackson.

      • BerwynBomber

Not his rookie year, though, right? Hell, he played almost a whole year.

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

nope his entire career at TB was just garbage time stats.

    • Corporal Clott

Lovie dumped on Glennon and Ryan Pace seems to be the one who wiped his ass. Smh

  • Irish Sweetness

Cannot throw on the run. He cannot.

  • King of DBB

    I’m ready for Butt Fumble

  • Wow. I have always maintained that Trub should be considered if Glennon goes full-Clausen.

    Glennon has gone full-Clausen

    • King of DBB

Craig Krenzel had a better arm

      • BearDown100393

        Chad Hutchinson

        • madscout12

He isn’t that bad. He sucks ass. But I saw Hutchinson play. An arm is all that guy had.

  • EnderWiggin

Did you see the way his head snapped when Glennon was hit? He’s that one guy you read about in Ripley’s that can scratch his forehead with his elbows.

    • Johnnywad

Johnny Knox can do that behind his back.

      • EnderWiggin

        ouch. Too soon?

        • Johnnywad

Nah. He’s walking and everything now.

  • Irish Sweetness

It was wrong “to move on” from Cutler. This guy just stole 18M dollars off us.

    • ButtonShoes

More like he stole 18M from Ryan Pace and the McCaskeys. We’re in the clear on this since I can’t remember a single fan ever clamoring for the Bears to sign Glennon.

    • BerwynBomber

It was time to move on from Cutler. And I doubt Cutler had any interest in ever being a back-up/mentor. Given the reports we heard about his free agency.

  • BerwynBomber

Forget Trisky for a second. I’m thinking Sanchize could play better than Glennon.

  • ButtonShoes

Kevin White does not look good out there. At all.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Another QB Cardinal smackdown

  • lol Amos should’ve played in the 80s

    Dude is a regulator.

  • madscout12

Time for a competition. Better happen unless Glennon convincingly drives them to the end-zone before he’s done.

    • It won’t matter now cuz 2nd team is in

      • madscout12

Throws are throws. I don’t care that Mr Biscuit did it against scrubs. Making reads and throwing dimes knows no level of competition.

    • ButtonShoes

There’s no competition. It’s Trubisky or bust.

  • BerwynBomber

At this point I’m not convinced Glennon is better than Sanchize. Let alone the kid.

    • AlbertInTucson

      “The emperor has no clothes.”…?

      • BerwynBomber

That would be more applicable if Trisky busts.
        Glennon was always a hedge.

    • BearDown100393

      Connor Shaw

  • BearDown100393

    [Pacebot]: I need $18 million.
    [George]: Why?
    [Pacebot]: To feed a giraffe.
[George]: That is some expensive giraffe.
[Pacebot]: Yeah, I need to blow some smoke to draft this kid.
    [George]: Huh?
    [Pacebot]: Just sign the check.

  • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

Man, I will not pile on the guy but you know it’s bad when your OC dials up the pussiest safe and cozy passing plays because the QB can’t drive throws vertically.
    Damn.

    • madscout12

10/14 for 58 and an INT. 5.8 per completion.

      • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

        Stats.

  • BearDown100393

Mike Ditka is stuck in the elevator.

  • BearDown100393

Bortles is Glennon. Glennon is Bortles.

  • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

    Better

  • AlbertInTucson

Cards brought the house and didn’t get close.

  • King of DBB

Miller broke his hip stretching for that first

    • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

      He better not be hurt.

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

it was just a dislocation, it is a good thing Braverman took those Pre Med classes and was able to pop it back in its socket.

  • AlbertInTucson

Another stare down in the red zone…?

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

I know its quick throws but damn.

    • madscout12

And it was BEHIND HIM. Stare him down and not throw it accurately. WTF.

  • ButtonShoes

Glennon is having trouble against Arizona’s 2s/3s. This is ridiculous.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Surprise. The Wright throw.

  • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

    Nice recovery.

  • BearDown100393

Yeah it is a TD but that might’ve been pic’d against the 1st string.

  • madscout12

    TD drive. I’m not convinced.

    • King of DBB

At least he made his hot read

  • ButtonShoes

Fox will use this as an excuse to say Glennon should start next game.

  • BerwynBomber

Ok. Not bad. But damn, some troubling signs.

Btw, don’t know if I’m crazy about the huge does of Cohen. The kid obviously can play but more interested in seeing if our “starting” QB can play. Especially under some duress.

  • madscout12

Glennon leaves with a 78.24 QBR.

    13/18 for 89, 1 TD and 1 INT.

    Worst 78 QBR ever.

    • BerwynBomber

That’s not a QBR. That’s a PR. Big difference. And a 78 is below average.

  • King of DBB

Omfg we picked up that Bucs kicker reject?

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

      where have you been….

  • AlbertInTucson

    Speaking of shitty throws…

  • ButtonShoes

If the Bears start Glennon for the first 4 games this year, they will go 0-4. If they start him for the first 8, they will go 0-8. START. MITCH.

    • madscout12

Fox is our coach. He’ll fucking start.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Cards QB smoked, again.

    • ButtonShoes

Cardinals’ offensive line is pure swiss cheese.

  • madscout12

    Slide feet first, kid.

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

    WOOHOO!!!

  • AlbertInTucson

    Hahahahaha

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

      visions of Knox and Hester

  • BearDown100393

Bruce Arians went full Dennis Green.

    • King of DBB

      Lol

    • AlbertInTucson

Arians “Gunslinger” coaching approach has cost as many or more games than it has won in Phx.

  • madscout12

    That’s some Hester shit there.

  • BerwynBomber

    Shades of Nathan Vasher.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

thats who i was thinking of not Knox

      • BearDown100393

Knox is now a Rubic’s Cube.

  • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

    Yassss.

  • madscout12

    BA is pissed.

  • AlbertInTucson

“Wide bodies cannot cover kick returns”.

Ask the 49ers about Nathan Vasher.

    Ask the Giants about Hester.

    • EnderWiggin

I believe those two have the league tie for longest returns.

      • AlbertInTucson

Somebody else has one that long, too.

        • EnderWiggin

99 yarder.. no idea who that could be.

          • AlbertInTucson

No, 109. Another good return guy in his day.

          • AlbertInTucson

Cordarelle Patterson ran a kickoff back 109 in 2013.

          • EnderWiggin

Good call. I missed that one.

  • King of DBB

    Nice coaching Arians

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

The Bears are who we thought they were!!!

  • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

My first grade daughter giggled when that kicker just fell his white cuck ass down on that run.
Haha, don’t judge me, they all just walked in from a block party. Normally it’s lights out at 8

    • King of DBB

“Daddy, does that man even have a penis?”

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

yes and some are “modestly” huge.

      • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

        Lol

  • Irish Sweetness

I told you. This boy is going to get us great field position this year.

  • AlbertInTucson

I actually DID LOL watching the Cardinal wide-bodies trying to cover that return.

  • AlbertInTucson

Wow. The Cardinal announcers are REALLY sugar coating their team’s first half.

I mean, it would be 24-0 if Glennon wasn’t so bad.

  • AlbertInTucson

Arians just blamed the protection on Palmer holding the ball too long.

    • EnderWiggin

      I chuckled.

    • AlbertInTucson

He didn’t attempt to explain 7 yards rushing on 9 carries.

  • King of DBB

Jim Millers head looks like a matzo Ball with a goatee

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

I was wandering why I was craving that.

    • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

Last year he looked like he was stuffed with marscapone.

  • madscout12

Now we’re gonna get picked apart by Blaine Freakin Gabbert.

    • AlbertInTucson

Relax. Gabbert’s a vet against lunch pail guys.

  • EnderWiggin

Hey Al, who is the big, deep voice commentator guy for Az? He sounds familiar, but they never say his name.

    • AlbertInTucson

      Ron Wolfley.

      • EnderWiggin

        Yeah, OK. St. Louis RB?

        • AlbertInTucson

          Former Card, for sure.

          • AlbertInTucson

I think there was another Wolfley who played in the NFL.

          • EnderWiggin

Yeah, I think he was a bruiser/goal line dude. No match for Hampton/McMichael.

          • madscout12
        • AlbertInTucson

FB 1985- 95 Stl, PHx and Cleve. Brother, Craig, was a lineman.

Wolfley only had 2 career TDs rushing.

        • Irish Sweetness

          SAfety.

      • AlbertInTucson

He’s been the Cards radio color guy for a long time now. He’s usually a pretty straight shooter but, like I said, they are trying not to admit how bad the Cardinals looked in that first half.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

got you or the wife turned on a bit?

      • EnderWiggin

lol, nah (NTTAWWT). I just couldn’t place him.

    • AlbertInTucson

He looks EXACTLY like you would expect.

      Like Fred Flintstone.

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

so is it Trubs or does Sanchez get a series?

    • AlbertInTucson

      There’s your answer.

  • madscout12

    Trubs time.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

      nope.

      • madscout12

        Bangs head on table. Why…

  • Irish Sweetness

    Blueballs for Mitchell.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Nice catch, Shaheen.

  • madscout12

It seems small, but this is just an awful decision by our coaching staff. Trubs showed a lot last game. Let him compete. Now. Sanchez will be a backup no matter what.

And shit…he looks better than Glennon.

    • King of DBB

      Not with Boggs at center

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

    butt fumble???

    • Bender McLugh

      Recovered the fumble?

  • madscout12

Put the kid in next drive, please.

  • madscout12

    Sanchez 2/2 for 23 yards

  • EnderWiggin

Dang, that dude in the crowd. YOu see his sign? That is how to get your ass beat… “The guy behind me can’t see”

    • madscout12

Wasn’t that a girl? Looked like a girl.

      • Irish Sweetness

        That’s up to him apparently.

    • Irish Sweetness

      I loved it. Smart boy.

      • EnderWiggin

Second best way to get on camera? 2nd of course, to Artoo’s Superman costume.

  • Irish Sweetness

This might be the most boring Bears game I’ve ever watched.

    • AlbertInTucson

      You must be VERY young.

    • AlbertInTucson

This isn’t even in the top 25.

    • EnderWiggin

This is much better than watching Tucker give up 50+ burgers.

  • Irish Sweetness

They’re mothballing Mitchell. They don’t want him looking good and stirring up trouble. Fuck.

    • ButtonShoes

They draft the guy, it seems like he might have some stuff, and their answer is to not let him play. This franchise is dysfunctional.

      • madscout12

It would be fine if we had a competent starter. We don’t.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Yeah.

Get your prize pick mauled by lunch pail protection and lunch pail pass rushers.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Not a good decision.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Nice, quick decisions.

  • AlbertInTucson

Wolf, it was low so only HIS guy could get it. SMH.

    • madscout12

      Right in the hands.

      • AlbertInTucson

        Good, safe throw. Un-Glennon-like.

  • madscout12

“Look at Brandon Williams looking at the ball”

Look at Brandon Williams get away with a hold.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Barth smiles.

    • Irish Sweetness

Barth can’t fucking play football. Aguayo can’t kick …

  • madscout12

Wow. Guess who isn’t making the squad.

  • BerwynBomber

What a slice on that kick. Yowza.

    • EnderWiggin

Rared back on that bitch like it was a 90 yarder.

      • BerwynBomber

        Should have screamed “fore!”

        • EnderWiggin

          lol

    • madscout12

Gambling is illegal at Bushwood, sir, and I never slice.

    • AlbertInTucson

      Wrong fairway…?

  • Bender McLugh

Aguayo, damn. You got your money now go retire

  • King of DBB

The Aguayo kid just cannot kick

  • AlbertInTucson

    “A dart.”

    “A laser beam.”

Pasche, Wolf, it’s Gabbert for crissakes.

    • madscout12

He was a FB. Not the brightest of positions during or after their NFL careers.

      • AlbertInTucson

And made his name as a special teams kamikaze.

  • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

RRH wants to be a bear.

    • BerwynBomber

Looked like Pep there for a couple of plays.

      • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

He put on some serious weight from his last year in college. 40lbs I believe.

        • Johnnywad

          Then he’ll have a knee.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Shaheen got pancaked.

  • madscout12

They want to get the RB some work.

  • AlbertInTucson

The low divers should be ejected.

  • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

    Trub almost had a knee

    • AlbertInTucson

      Or ankle.

  • madscout12

Can we please let the kid throw the ball.

    • AlbertInTucson

Not with THAT ” protection” against the goons.

  • AlbertInTucson

Cards anncrs raving about Buddha Baker.

    He’s with the 3s and 4s, morons.

    • BerwynBomber

Hah! I forgot about Buddha since the draft.

    • Irish Sweetness

I believe they were enamored with his back flip to standing position.

      • AlbertInTucson

        BFD.

  • BerwynBomber

Bad pass. Trisky got lucky that wasn’t an INT or even a pick six.

    • AlbertInTucson

      He IS a rookie.

    • King of DBB

He is super accurate but is still learning when to abort and not fire

  • AlbertInTucson

    Rookie throw.

    • madscout12

Bad decision. That WR did him no favors and has been getting manhandled.

      • AlbertInTucson

That is a COUPLE of. Late, I’ll-advised throws.

        • madscout12

At least his have been one-on-one throws where the WR got beat. Not triple coverage.

          • AlbertInTucson

            Hopefully, learning experiences.

  • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

BW Webb has had a rough fucking game.

    • King of DBB

      It just got better

      • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

        Haha, he still gawn.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Interception. No return.

  • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

Props to a strong play and a strong TD dance.

  • AlbertInTucson

This o line combo is blocking nobody.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Wrong receiver I.D., Mr. Pasche.

  • AlbertInTucson

Can’t even remember the last Bears pre-season game live, start to finish.

  • ButtonShoes

The Bears are deliberately handicapping Trubisky. They want him to play bad so they can keep justifying putting out trash like Glennon out there.

    • Bender McLugh

      Uh huh

      • AlbertInTucson

Playing him behind a lunch pail offensive line is beyond stupid.

    • madscout12

135.43 Rating…but not as much flash.

  • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

    Cruz time

  • AlbertInTucson

    “Look at Buddha Baker”

    Well, whoop dee freakin’ doo.

  • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

Love seeing Trub on the run.

    • AlbertInTucson

It simplifies his look to just half the field and he hasn’t tried to throw back across the field.

      • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

He moves in fast forward. Gets oitside very quickly. Throws well on the run

  • ButtonShoes

Just let him start with the 1s. Let’s see how he does with the 1s.

    • AlbertInTucson

I can no longer disagree agree with that concept.

    • madscout12

      They won’t. Fox. Ugh.

Refuses to be fucking interesting. And win.

  • madscout12

    Nice kick.

    • AlbertInTucson

Dawson is pretty solid, the 62 yard attempt aside. I’d take him over Barth.

  • AlbertInTucson

They have raved about Gabbert but that’s his 3rd near pick to go with the one he DID throw.

  • BerwynBomber

Trubisky again looks like the best QB on the team.

And tonight the second best QB looked to be Sanchez.

    • EnderWiggin

Last week too. Sanchez looked like a hall of famer next to Glennon, even if it was just a series or two.

  • AlbertInTucson

Braverman didn’t help didn’t help himself.

    • BerwynBomber

      I’m surprised he’s still around.

    • ButtonShoes

I don’t get the noise surrounding Braverman. Do people really think he’ll turn into something?

      • AlbertInTucson

        A liability?

        • ButtonShoes

          Bingo.

  • madscout12

    Fuck you, Braverman.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Gabbert scramble again?

  • AlbertInTucson

EXCITiNG finish! NFL “Preseason Game Of The Week”!

  • AlbertInTucson

I still think Gabbert runs it in, again.

  • AlbertInTucson

We don’t add time to preseason games, guys.

  • AlbertInTucson

    NICE throw.

Pasche, Wolf, this is why Gabbert is Gabbert.

  • Irish Sweetness

Fuck you Daniel Braverman. I never knew why you were on this team. Be gone.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Braverman, REDEEMED!

    • Irish Sweetness

      Game redeemed. Braverman gone.

  • Fresno BearDown!

Trubiskey how does he look? What I miss?

    • AlbertInTucson

Looks like a guy who just needs some time with the 1s.

      • Fresno BearDown!

So where we at now? I missed the game and I’m came here for stats first! Is this guy the fuckin messiah or what?

        • Irish Sweetness

Most boring game I can recall.

          • Fresno BearDown!

            Fuck the life then!

        • AlbertInTucson

He could well be. Raw edges need smoothing.

Glennon did nothing to forward HIS cause.

    • EnderWiggin

Trubs looks human. Unfortunately, Glennon looks like a zoo animal.

    • madscout12

The neutered him. They ran Rounds on every 1st down and Rounds sucked.

Trubs made 2 ill advised throws in 3rd and 13ish.

Other than that, he was himself. Deadly accurate. Exciting on rollouts.

He needs time with the 1s, but he won’t get it, because John Fox knows better than you. John Fox and his fucking 9 games he’s won as the Bears head coach. And if he keeps it up, it will be 12 after this year.

      • AlbertInTucson

You forgot about putting his health in jeopardy behind amateur blockers and goon pass rushers.

        • AlbertInTucson

One guy try to behead him.

Another tried to cut him off at the ankles.

          • AlbertInTucson

The low hit was absolutely scary.

      • BerwynBomber

Although truthfully they neutered all three QBs. In fact, I sensed Trisky had a larger percentage of pass plays than Glennon.

        That’s just Fox ball.

  • madscout12

    Connor Shaw sighting.

  • Irish Sweetness

    Thank God Gabbert is Gabbert.

    • AlbertInTucson

At that point, did we really care?

  • leftcoastdave

Great game on so many levels.

  • BerwynBomber

Cohen looks like the absolute goods. Shame he’s not a returner, a’la Sproles. But still should be a game changer, regardless.

    • AlbertInTucson

Looks like an excellent complement to Howard.

      • EnderWiggin

Yeah, A lot of Fox hate lately. But the dude is know for having a huge 1-2 punch in the run game.

      • Irish Sweetness

As an actual backup to Howard do we nick the Cards’ E. Penny? 6’2, 234lbs. Bubble guy.

    • They’ve been working him as a PR. I think he’ll end up there when Jackson takes over the starting FS job (which should be this week).

    • Irish Sweetness

He has to be a returner, he won’t get all that many snaps on offense so he needs to be returning.

  • BerwynBomber

I wouldn’t worry about Fox mothballing Trisky for very long.

The reason? The kid was the second overall pick in the draft. This isn’t a Parcells/Romo situation. Fox knows the Bears are more about #10 now than him.

At worst Glennon will start a few games, suck and then be replaced by the rook. If Fox refuses he’ll be overruled or fired.

  • Mike Glennon continues to be Mike Glennon, which is to say not good. Trubisky didn’t look as good this week, but is still pretty clearly the best QB on the roster, IMO.

2nd straight week the Bears had a bunch of young players flashing, mostly against starters. That’s awesome. Goldman, Bullard, Cohen, Jackson, Floyd all played really well tonight. Solid games from Meredith, Whitehair too, and RRH (but that one was against backups).

The core of this team is emerging. They’ve needed those “building block” guys for years, they’re finally starting to show up.

    • willbest

      White?

      • yeah, he was invisible again too. I’ll be surprised if he’s an important contributor by 2018.

      • AlbertInTucson

        Unimpressive.

    • BerwynBomber

Agreed on all counts, though I actually thought Glennon might be better than what he has thus far shown. (Guess his TB stats were a bit misleading.)

The D could be pretty special this year. The front seven was beating the crap out of ARI.

      • and that was without McPhee, Hicks, Trevathan, Amukamara, or Kwiatkoski.

        • BerwynBomber

Yes, but I don’t know if we can count on McPhee and I’m still not sure Kwitowski is a starter.

          • agreed on both, just pointing out they started their #4 DL, #3 OLB, #4 ILB, and #3 CB because a bunch of guys were out. And still looked dominant.

Floyd is a straight-up beast. He made a good RT (Veldheer) look like a scrub tonight.

  • Oh yeah, should mention Fuller too. He took advantage of his opportunity with Amukamara out tonight. A couple of nice breaks on the ball and a great play to snuff out a screen.

    • AlbertInTucson

Yes, Fuller was a pleasant surprise tonight.

    • BerwynBomber

      I’ve always liked Fuller.

  • willbest

Kids had a birthday party, so I missed this game.

Judging by the play-by-play though it looks like Thompson has landed his roster spot.

They seem to really like Cohen (or they are trying to break him). I know Howard is missing an eye, but I would have thought that they would get the more traditional backs in there. To wit, Langford looks like he is getting cut.

Who is RRH and why does he hate the Cardinals?

    • Roy Robertson-Harrison.

      • willbest

I know that, I was curious about his pair of sacks and his PD. Which is the type of game you expect out of Von Miller.

        • to be fair, he was playing against 2nd/3rd string. But he absolutely dominated.

    • also, not sold on Thompson. Cunningham started the game as the primary KR (and had a really nice return to start the game), he only came in after Cunningham was done. I don’t think Thompson sticks. No value as a WR, they’re looking for guys to replace him on ST.

Cruz also continues to play at times that suggest he’s not making this roster.

    • Irish Sweetness

Deonte sealed his spot last week. He’s looked like our best receiver/returner thus far in PS.

  • Through 2 games, Glennon has attempted 26 passes and is averaging 4.19 yards per attempt.

It’s really difficult to convey just how atrocious that is. The average QB is around 7 yards per attempt, with great ones between 8 and 9.

Here’s a nice comparison: in Grossman’s infamous terrible game in Arizona in 2006, he averaged 3.9 yards per attempt. Kyle Orton as a rookie averaged just over 5 yards per attempt.

    • BerwynBomber

Thing is, his arm is not a complete noodle.

As Waffle said much earlier, the way Loggains babied him tonight was disconcerting. Bubble Screen City.

If he sucks he sucks. But no use trying to turn him into Hoyer.

      • that’s because every time he tries to throw downfield so far, he’s stared his guy down, missed the throw, and/or thrown into double/triple coverage.

They don’t trust him, but they’re trying to make his stat line respectable enough that they can justify starting him.

        • Glennon also has a painfully slow release. The difference between his windup and Trubisky’s is ridiculous.

          • EnderWiggin

Man, you give a much better argument than Blogfather…

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

you didn’t buy the Blogfather’s Glennon just sucks argument?

          • DaBearsBlog

            Let’s see:

Played an NFL season: was crappy and replaced

Has practiced crappy for Bears since being signed

Has been awful in two preseason games.

The game isn’t that complicated. Mike Glennon sucks.

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

I am with you. Glennon Sucks.

          • He’s just generally saying Glennon sucks, which is an accurate assessment. He’s been downright terrible so far.

          • BerwynBomber

Noticed that too. And it’s part of the reason the O looks so crisp under the kid.

I can’t remember the last time the Bears had a QB with a quick release. Even Cutler was a bit glacial.

          • Irish Sweetness

His throwing on the run is painful and dangerous.

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

How many guys were missing on the Cards starting D that allowed Cohen to run all over them? Just seeing if there is any reason not to be excited about him.

    • BerwynBomber

They were selling out on the pass, fearing the aerial show under Air Glennon.

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

figures. the kid can’t be that good. I mean mid round pick from a small schools should never pan out

        • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

Ahhhhhh, the timeless art of sarcasm. So very French.

  • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

The kid gives us the best chance to win. He’s not playing. That should tell you something.
