    “…refer”

    Using that #3 pick?

    None of the above.

    After round 1?

I think the Bears HAVE to take a flyer on any of the 4 that might be left.

    Probably Mahomes?

    • MB30SD

      agree… in 3rd or 4th

      • AlbertInTucson

Kaaya is another “later round’ possibility.

        • MB30SD

everything I’ve heard says he isn’t worth even a 4th.

We don’t need another shaw… total waste of a pick in my mind. Pick up someone that at least has the potential to contribute on specials.

          • AlbertInTucson

Wasn’t endorsing him but, supposedly, the Bears could take him, later.

The knock I read was he showed zero improvement from his previous season to this one.

          • Bender McLugh

Ugh….I need to read before I comment

        • Bender McLugh

Am I the only one who doesn’t feel good about that guy?

          • Irish Sweetness

            Nope.

          • AlbertInTucson

            No.

    • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

Webb will be in the later rd mix

      • Bender McLugh

        Who? Link damn you!

        • Huge Bears Penis

I think he is inferring we will be trading a late round pick to bring j’marcus webb back

          • Bender McLugh

            ohhhh….womp

  • AlbertInTucson

    “DaBearsBlog @dabearsblog
Alshon Jeffery’s pro mentor was Brandon Marshall. Not looking like that was a good thing.”

Marshall, whatever else we think of him, WAS willing to play hurt.

Apparently THAT “mentoring” did not take.

    • Sahr Gborie

I’m a big AJ fan but if he does not want to stay then I don’t want him. he might become another locker room cancer like Marshall

      • AlbertInTucson

His story is the same as a LOT of guys.

He’s great to have on the field.

The problem is GETTING/KEEPING him on the field.

He always seems like a bad hammy waiting to happen.

        • Sahr Gborie

The most important trait is AVAILABILITY and when we talk about players and their durability history, that’s important. – RYAN PACE

          • AlbertInTucson

I believe catch phrase is actually,..

“The most important “Ability” is “AVAILability.”

        • SC Dave

It’s always a gble on whether a guy gets more or less willing to play with pain once the finances are set. Must vary by individual.

One thing that does seem clear, however, is that most seem far more willing to do so when your team doesn’t suck.

      • SC Dave

We dont, of course, know whether or not hw wants to stay. As a WR, I know I would want to have some confidence in the QB situation.

  • Sahr Gborie

    Round1 – Build the DEFENSE: EDGE/CORNERBACK/SAFETY m’kay
Round2 – Safety/Cornerback if a good one is there. If not fortify the defense. Unless a very good TE is there.
Round3 – QB unless you feel they will be there in the 4th. Then go for another Safety/Cornerback
Round4 – QB. Plain and simple

    • MB30SD

So much this… except I put the order of the first round pick like this:

      1. Safety
      2. Corner
      3. Edge

      • Sahr Gborie

        1. EDGE
        2. Corner
        3. Safety

        • MB30SD

dude, we have dlinemen that are supposed to step up. Multiple.

Tell me who we have at safety again – especially FS?

          • SC Dave

            Unless it’s Thomas, I agree.

    • Irish Sweetness

Why waste a pick at rd 3 or 4?

  • Zap Rowsdower (GP)

What is the most surprising thing that the Bears could do with the #3 pick?

    • http://www.upitpuppet.com/ evantonio

trade it straight up for the Cardinals 3rd round pick.

      • willbest

I presume there has to be some level of sanity to the option.

        • http://www.upitpuppet.com/ evantonio

you play by your rules, i’ll play by mine.

          • Sahr Gborie

i play by the rules that say i always win

        • Sahr Gborie

          thank you

    • BearDown100393

Draft a future Super Bowl winning HOFer.

    • willbest

Fournette, if we are looking at the top 15 prospects, is the most unlikely. Everybody else though could plausibly draft, even the WR’s if they don’t sign Jeffery.

      • Irish Sweetness

If you’re looking at a Bo, or a Herschel .. .why wouldn’t you draft them? Jordan is not Bo or Herschel. He has no top gear. He’s good, but has no chance of being truly great. Nobody is drafting Leonard at 1 OR 2. We just need the balls to do it.

        • willbest

Because the game is more than running backs Irish. From week 5 on when Howard was the definitive starter he was a top 5 RB. So we go from the 5th best run game in the league to the first? And still have no playmakers on defense and no passing attack. So Rodgers and Stafford can pick us apart and we can’t come back. Sounds like a super plan.

          • Bear46

It would be the Cowboy model, draft a great RB and build the O line. It’s time to start pushing people around and get an identity. Get QB and rest of D next year. This only works if Pace thinks Fournette is the real deal.

          • willbest

Before the cowboys got Zeke they had Romo, Dez, Witten, and even Beasley as a solid 2. They developed the line and then got the RB. Dak was a struck by lightening accident.

          • Irish Sweetness

And his numbers were pedestrian doing it most weeks. If Dak Prescott had been on the Bears all these years we’re still not good … and he might have been destroyed.

Control the clock. Be able to run the ball at will, simply because you have the best blocking and best backs. Play hard aggressive defense with a ball hawk safety in the middle. Ditka-ball, if you like. Bears football.

But if we can trade down and cash in … so be it. We could draft another good back in the third.

    • AlbertInTucson

Land a guy who makes the expected immediate impact you want from a top 3 pick.

      • MB30SD

        Jeeeeees Al, jeeeeeees!

There are about 5 of those available to us no matter who cle and sf chose. It really shouldn’t be hard to get it right.

        • SC Dave

          Lets hope its not.

          • MB30SD

            it’s not, don’t need hope.

What we have to hope for is that pace does something stoopid because he feels pressure to get a QB or he overthinks it. Just pick one of the 5… I’d even be very happy with Foster.

          • SC Dave

That’s what I mean, MB. Let’s hope it’s not too hard for Pace.

He did pick Kevin White. I hope to hell I’m wrong about that kid, but I fear I am not.

          • MB30SD

            so I don’t get that.

There were no reports whatsoever about the leg before the draft or even directly after it. If there were injury concerns I’m pretty sure we would have bailed.

Like butch said, seems like the usual Bears luck and nothing else. The kid looked like a STUUUUD coming out of college.

…oh, and did you SEE how fast he’s been jogging these days!???!

          • willbest

White was a raw physical freak with limited play time. Pace was obviously swinging for the fences on that one. Maybe if he had 4 years of college ball the injury would have manifest itself. Kyle Long is incidentally another guy.

Massive talent, tremendous heart, but it turns out he isn’t as durable as the rigors of the sport demand these days

        • AlbertInTucson

Yeas. I shouldn’t have to post that.

And yet, all too often, they DO find a way.

      • Sahr Gborie

That should be the norm…ask the Patriots

        • AlbertInTucson

And the Bears batting average on that count stinks.

    • Irish Sweetness

      That’s a good one.

Probably draft a wide receiver … or a QB that we haven’t talked about as being in the top tier.

  • http://www.dabearsbeat.com/ Johnathan Wood

MY ALMA MATER IS GOING TO THE NCAA TOURNAMENT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HISTORY THANKS TO THIS INCREDIBLE PLAY.

        I fucking care.

        • MB30SD

hahahaha, good for you my man. You know me by now, can’t pass up an opty to fuck with someone about any other sport but football

        • willbest

Oh the NCAA basketball preseason is over already?

          • http://www.dabearsbeat.com/ Johnathan Wood

not quite. Selection Sunday is 9 days away.

But this win clinched a winning record for NU in the B1G, which traditionally locks up a place in the tournament.

  • MB30SD

    FUCKING NONE!!!!

use the picks on D and/or a real TE

    • willbest

Is Gronk 2.0 in this draft?

      • MB30SD

there are 2 VERY good TEs supposedly.

Howard, the Nigerian kid from miami, and jake butt would have been the top guy but his agent is a fucking moron and let him play in a meaningless bowl game and he blew out his knee (and millions of dollars)

        • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

Butt in thr back end of the draft

          • MB30SD

            I see whatyou did there

      • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

Howard supposedly looked like a man among boys at the senior bowl and is expected to blow up the combine.
If he does might be the highest drafted TE since Davis

        • MB30SD

          nice.

See, I wouldn’t even be pissed with that pick. Just a pro-bowl level guy at any of the holes in our roster.

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

What’s more impressive about his senior bowl balling is that this is seen as s strong TE class, so he made good prospects look like scrubs compared to him.
The tape might not tell the whole story on him either since Bama is always run heavy, so sky is the limit for him.
Think he’ll go top 8 fo sho

          • SC Dave

This. Preferrably making the HoF conversation too.

      • Irish Sweetness

The first couple of TEs look decent. Howard and David Ongobongo …

  • Sahr Gborie

Jonathan Allen has moderate arthritis in both shoulders – arthritic conditions never improve, they only get worse. Solomon Thomas’ draft stock skyrocketing – Here come the trade offers!!!

    • MB30SD

the ONLY player I take ahead of a safety at this point is thomas. And I personally still take hooker because of need vs guys we already have on the team in those two spots (i.e., many on dline and zero at FS)

I’ve been on the hell no to allen since I watched him play in the champeenship game. Pass.

Oh, and Ps. blog protocol… ALWAYS provide the link.

      • Sahr Gborie

I understand your reasoning but I have to side with Lord Pace that you Never draft for need. That’s what has plagued us as a franchise for all of eternity. BPA!!!

        • MB30SD

nah, not in this scenario maings.

I don’t see how you ignore this situation:

          1. We have multiple dlinemen, including the #7 1st round pick from LAST YEAR!

          2. We literally don’t have a single NFL-grade FS on our roster (FA might change that, but I don’t see a franchise

          3. This years picks at safety have been compared to berry and thomas… basically the best safety class in a decade.

With 1-3 I don’t see how you don’t take hooker (if he checks out of course)

          • Sahr Gborie

Good point. I counter that IF we have a better line that can rush the passer then our back end will be able to do a better job. This does not mean that we ignore the back end in the draft. I’m just more comfortable drafting for the D-LINE in the first then the back end in the 2ND or even possible trading back into the 1st for SAFETY/CORNERBACK

          • MB30SD

I get this maings… the problem is we don’t have a decent or even bad back end, we literally have NONE.

If we were just OK back there, but solid and stable, I’d be all about the front 7, but after 10 years it’s gotten to the point where we simply can’t ignore it any more. We just can’t.

Strike now while you have two supposed all pro level players on the menu. there will always be good front 7 guys in the draft, it’s rare to have this much safety talent available AND a top 3 pick to use on them.

          • Sahr Gborie

Cant beat your logic Sir so I will join you. Unless Garrett is there at 3.

          • MB30SD

I wasn’t trying to convince you to jump ship, just stating my own logic.

I would agree with garrett at 3. As I would with foster.

Those two I think are guaranteed to be Pro bowlers (at this stage)

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

Foster is being comped to Willis. Deeum

          • MB30SD

            yuuuup. I think that’s a great comp… or wagner.

I’d take either in a second right

          • Irish Sweetness

It’s not hard to be a PBer, Howard made it his first year. Now we can draft the improved version, and stop worrying about QB. Cutty is a magic play-action QB.

          • willbest

Lets see how you feel in a week. Maybe we buy Bouye and Hill and then we can discuss Hooker/Adams vs. Thomas more rationally. Though I am afraid that makes Trubisky more likely as well.

          • Sahr Gborie

If we go by the BPA logic of Lord Pace there is no reason to take any of the 3QB. We don’t have to see his draft broad to know this. Nothing about him says that he will overreach (Kevin White is hindsight)

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

White was not a reach. As a matter of fact , he was the bpa by most accounts, and got nothing but pats on thr back for selection.
Pace didn’t know about his leg tho. No one did. You can read all the predraft mocks, profiles, analysis and rumors and not sp much as a peep about his leg.
White’s only drawback was his one yr wonder tag

Just bad bear luck (and never know. Matbe White finally recovers)

          • MB30SD

            yep

          • Irish Sweetness

            People are assuming ….

            1. That Cutty is gone, when there are no equal or better options available within reason.

            2. That Kevin White can’t play football.

I hope Cutty Stays, and Kevin steps up.

          • Irish Sweetness

IFF he stays healthy, he might be pretty good. He was all over the shop last season, and had the dropsies. WRs improve like red wine, or they’re just vinegar from the start. I don’t think White is vinegar .. .but he may be one of those guys who gets injured a lot. We’ll find out.

          • MB30SD

We’ll NEVER pick up hill. We are the bears and only pick up ‘clean’ players… and stay dogshit.

Besides, you take a flyer on hill but don’t count on him to be there for 16. You hope he makes it, but he’ll get popped for something at some point.

If we pick up any of these QBs I am done. I will come grabass with you idiots still but I will stop caring about the bears until they starts caring about the bears.

          • willbest

            Ray McDonald.

          • MB30SD

            unsubstantiated claims at that point.

            Honey Badger
            Burfict

are my two big ones I wanted… and now look (burfict is still a POS, but he’s a badass POS)

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

I’d probably stick around for Trubisky, but if the Bears started him right away I’d be very disappointed. Risk ruining him for good like Carr

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

That’s what I’m thinking. But if the 9ers don’t get their qb in FA (looking bleak ) then i still maintain they nab Trubisky

          • Irish Sweetness

            Buy Hightower.

          • Irish Sweetness

Always has been that way. We could still use a ball hawk in the middle though. Still need a play-maker in there somewhere, be it CB or S.

          • Irish Sweetness

I think our linebackers are dogshit.

          • Irish Sweetness

If we don’t grab Fournette and thank the football Gods then if Malik is medically sound he’d be an acceptable pick. It really has been ridiculously long since we’ve had a safety we liked. I think we’re pretty light at RB (and obviously helium at safety). Howard isn’t really a pass-catcher, but he could improve that. After that .. . we got rid of Jock-squeeze, he was good. Perry. All gone. There are plenty off good backs in the draft so they say, but if the best of them – the best of many years – is there …. then we should pull the trigger.

How about this trade out of Pace?

We get the Jets 6th pick, they move to 3, giving us their 2nd and 3rd and next year’s 2nd. Trade back up into lower firt round and draft Baker.

            Rd.1 Fournette
            Rd. 1 Budda Baker
Rd. 2/3 Malik McDowell, 6’6, 276. (not too many linemen this long in the draft).

          • MB30SD

            Sure! Make it so!!

        • SC Dave

If that’s true, the selection of White is more concerning than ever.

          • Sahr Gborie

Never have been a big White fan. Always wanted Beasley. Can you imagine him and Floyd? Right now we would be talking about drafting the best CORNERBACK/SAFETY. PERIOD.

        • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

Need makes a team reach for an inferior player.
Hooker and Thomas are equal caliber

        • Irish Sweetness

That means he will draft Fournette. He’ll be the BPA at #3.

      • Sahr Gborie
    • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

      Yeah, heard that about Allen.

      Chronic + shoulders + linemen = pass

      • Irish Sweetness

Not to mention he’s a tweener.

So 5 more days until the handshake deals get announced and 7 more days until signatures on the dotted lines.

  • Zap Rowsdower (GP)

I wonder who the fuck votes on Jeff’s polls – how many bullshit hidden votes

    From Walter Football:

I should note that no team we’ve spoken to has him as a first-round prospect. One high-ranking personnel man in the NFC told me he has Watson as a third-round prospect. It’s so much like the Teddy Bridgewater draft, when the media had Bridgewater in the first round, and yet NFL franchises considered him to be a second-day prospect, even before his woeful pro day. However, this was prior to the national championship, so I have to believe some team will trade up into the back end of the opening frame to take Watson, much like the Vikings did with Bridgewater. In this case, New York is simply taking Watson with its own pick, and I think it’s a very logical selection.

    • willbest

Was Tannehill a first round prospect? I recall thinking the Fins were insane taking him at 8. But if you were redrafting 2012, he probably would be going around there anyway.

      • BerwynBomber

Had my doubts too but yeah I believe Tannenhill generated pre-draft buzz a’la Wentz. IIRC, Tannenhill only started his senior year. Had been playing WR previously.

    • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

Very surprised Watson won the poll. Only conclusion is that they watched the championship game.
Then again, prolly the same clowns who always vote for Cutty.
Silent majority. Reason they should remain silent

      • Sahr Gborie

I voted for Watson because he best fits the qualities Lord Pace always talks about. If I was GM I would not pick a QB until the 4th. Too much defensive talent to pass up:

        R1- EDGE/SAFETY/CORNERBACK
        R2 – SAFETY/CORNERBACK

    • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

      That would be GREAT.

30 TDs is Cargo’s high, and 12 INTs his low .

Of course, didn’t come in the same yr, and doesn’t account for his unnecessary strip/sacks or pulled groin/thumb/head, so basically we’d be getting the best of Cargo for 1/3rd the price

      #destroya

      • MB30SD

        BOOM!

    • MB30SD

It doesn’t matter to be honest.

It’s ALL about how we can improve the D, plug some critical gaps on O (1. TE, 2. WR, 3. OL) and get our specials actually scoring points and stopping drives.

Like unless we land tyrod or jimmy, there literally isn’t a better option. Let’s look at facts and not everyones opinion. So taking tyrod and jimmy out of the picture, here’s the deal…

      Our Realistic QB Situation
      1. Our guys (hoyer, barkley, shaw) – we know who they are (cept shaw), they’re 5-8 win Qbs with a good D and strong specials

      2. Draft (trubinski/watson/kizer) – every single expert known to football has said none of these guys are a franchise option, and most likely they’ll need to sit behind a GOOD starting QB to get better and be ready.

We know we don’t have a good starting caliber qb to learn from.

      3. Keep Cutler – taking data’s analysis at face value the delta between cutty and hoyer is one win… I don’t have another measure, so lets just use that.

Cutler is already disgruntled, injured, and a fucking INT/strip-sack shitshow rollercoaster, so… we know who he is too.

      4. Bring in a guy like Glennon. We know who glennon is, he’s just another, worser more expensive flavored hoyer

With the above being the facts (mostly), why in thee fuck would we care/invest in/focus on the QB position this year?! We know we’re going to be an 6-8 win team, so why not focus on making the D a fucking juggernaught while patching the o and getting specials strong and wait till a stacked (by all accounts) draft to get our QB next year.

How if we’re a 6-8 win team you ask? You fucking do whatever it takes to trade up and get your guy if you think he’s really going to be a franchise (a la tenn).

That’s my logic… why the fuck would we blow super high draft picks or spend our FA cache on a fucking QB (other that tyrod or jimmy) when it’s going to get us 6-8 wins regardless and we have an opty to fix everything else this year, and get our guy next??

      • Sahr Gborie

We know we’re going to be an 6-8 win team, so why not focus on making
the D a fucking juggernaught while patching the o and getting specials

        next year. PREACH BROTHER!!!

    • Irish Sweetness

      Pigs fly?

  • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

If we DO get Glennon it better not be as a starter.

I also read that he might fetch $10M + on the market.

    Fuck that.

Let the Jets go that route.

    • willbest

Sounds about right. $8 million is the floor on a QB you intend to make QB1. Also keep in mind the 167 cap means $10 million is 6%. Which is a trivial sum considering the importance of the position.

      • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

The cap rose by $12M if I remember, so that’s essentially an extra player for “free”.

Of course, all the agents will now bump up their price accordingly.

I fear that now that Jimmy G is off the market (we were the team linked to him most), that Pace goes and does something stupid.

Stay the course Pacebot, stay the fucking course.

        • willbest

Well I mean even RG3 got 7.5 million. Granted its the browns, but Houston and the Jets also gave huge money to suspect QBs. As did the Seahawks (Matt Flynn) and even the Donks were going to give Oz 16 mil a year. Chase Daniels is getting 7 million to hold a clipboard.

If you want Hoyer to QB1 the Bears next year he isn’t going to do it for less than $8 million annual and will probably demand $12 million guarantee. If you do something like draft Mahomes at 36, you might as well run with Cutler because he won’t cost you much more than hoyer.

With Miller at TE but he’s in the tub from a hangnail. I like Miller as much as the next guy but he somehow escapes all the soft BS that Olsen and Alshon always got around here.

          • MB30SD

because when he’s injured it’s like a broken foot, not a groin strain that takes 7 weeks to heal.

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

Miller was not a 1st or 2nd rd pick with high expectations.

            He’s a journeymen TE.

Also, unlike Alshon (allegedly), he hustles, and unlike Girly Thor, he doesn’t drop from a strong wind off lake Michigan.

          • willbest

We are only paying him 2-2.5 million though. If you get 4 games of top 5 TE production out of him he has outplayed his contract.

          • Zap Rowsdower (GP)

there is no other position in football in which body type and combine stats mean less than TE.

TE is all about scouting. And luck.

          • CanadaBear

And staying healthy. I think TE’s are the most injured position.

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

Aside from QB, TE has to be the most difficult to land. Just never know with those guys.

Every year teams draft “sure fire” TEs that go quiet for like 3 years or never quite blow up (Hunter Herny, Ebron, Eifert, Ertz , Fleener) while later round guys like Witton pop out of nowhere.

In his first season. I get that he wasn’t the world’s greatest blocker but he was willing and got better. Did he go down easy? Fuck yeah, but it was down the field. He was productive and Martz gave him away because he was an idiot and paid Man of Moolah by the pound. Meanwhile he’s having a nice career in Carolina. DAMN!

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

            Agree 100%.

Olsen and Cutler had chemistry on and off the field. Prolly the only receiver to have that.

And Bears in their infinite wisdom gave that away.

            Boggles the mind.

Olsen in recent interview said he didn’t regret the trade one bit now.

      • Sahr Gborie

Their need a QB gives me hope that it’s not a draft play. Fingers crossed hopig they take him

      • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

Yeah, no surprise they wanna score more picks, and they’re likely leaking this out their for that reason.

But, they gotta figure that neither Trubisky nor Watson will be around at #12, maybe not even Kizer.

If they think all 3 will be gone, maybe they do just go in on Trubisky, and can still pick up a blue chip player at #12 like Fournette, Howard, Foster or Williams.

If you’re the Browns, gotta ask yourself – what translates to more wins?

        A combo like Trubisky-Fournette?

        Or say Garrett and Foster?

Brown’s GM and HC know they have a short shelf life.

        • Irish Sweetness

      • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

That’s a good question. So a team would essentially only have to reach the 50 (48 to be exact) to get 3 points?

        I would say – yes.

That not only almost guarantees you’ll come up with 3 points on what – 90% of drives (Data?), but also puts incredible pressure on opposing teams to score on every drive.

Also, the bonus of making extra points (which are far from automatic now) or theoretically clutch kicks to win games.

If you couple that K with an explosive returner, your O doesn’t even have to be mediocre to win.

        Would be awesome to see.

You guys know how friends are… I’ve known my graphic designer for 10 years and he’s best friends with my right-hand man at work (how we found him as our designer). Anyway, we share an office.

He brings in this 3D printer last week. I just asked him if I can use it. He goes, for what? I said I want to create a life-sized plastic version of my phallus

He starts laughing and goes, it only goes to like 4-5″ max size.

    I said PERFECT!!

Then I go, wait, since it’s ‘miniaturized’ anyway… I have a great idea!

I wanna create perfectly anatomically correct versions of me cack and balls and make them into key chains that I will put in a little mylar bag with some chocolates with a nice ribbon around the top, and every morning after, I’ll give them to chicks as a parting gift. hahahaha

Here’s a lil draft talk with a few tidbits.

    http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-videos/0ap3000000788788/Scouts-combine-for-2017-mock-draft

Puke drafting HB McCaffrey would be interesting. No secret they need a real HB, and he’d fit that O, but O really isn’t the Puke’s achilles’ heel.

    • BerwynBomber

That would be pretty mindless on the Cheese’s behalf.

More and more I’m thinking if you have a great QB the last thing you need to give him is skilled O guys. In other words, focus on the D first. And the O-line second. There is a chance that Brady, Brees and Rodgers will have spent combined ~60 years in the NFL and the only O skilled guy any of them will have had as a teammate for an extended time will have been Gronk.

And why do Rodgers and Brees only have one ring apiece? Host of reasons, of course, but arguably biggest is that Saints D is often crap and GB’s is often crap-to-marginal.

The Cheese would be smart to lowball Fat Eddie. Or at most draft an RB mid-round. Otherwise, just build the D. But they already decided to bring back Capers, which might be as big a problem as their personnel.

      • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

Yeah, it’s a deep HB draft to bout.
They can pick up a solid HB in 3rd and beyond.

Although I’d have to say Moss, Welker and Graham (pre-inj) were perennial PBers on O for Brees and Brady.

        • BerwynBomber

Agreed. And Nelson and Cobb are certainly no slouches.

But we have also seen all three guys (Brady, Rodgers and Brees) produce with no-names.

      • willbest

Jordy Nelson has more 1000 yard seasons than Gronk. Guys a freak but Alshon has played more games than him in the last 4 years.

        • BerwynBomber

Nelson should. He’s a WR. And he’s four years older.

But yeah Gronk might end up being the O version of JJ Watt: an absolutely unstoppable force whose career was unfortunately wrecked by injury. TBD (w/ both guys.)

P.S. My guess is Gronk would be borderline HoF if his career ended today. Watt would get in.

          • willbest

I don’t know about Watt. Granted he has 4 years of total dominance, but he has only been in the league 6 years one of which he missed.

          • BerwynBomber

Yeah, but 3 DMVPs of the league. It would be a bit like Sayers (or Terrell Davis) but he was just so fucking dominant in that short span.

IMO, I think he’s a 2nd day prospect (I’d prefer Mixon over him).

I’d have to see his combine, specifically his 10yd split to see if he is explosive or not.

        • leftcoastdave

White bread could make an impact in the slot, at RB both handed or catching the ball, punts and KO’s. That is, if he can keep from getting killed.

    • Irish Sweetness

I guarantee you Minny get Fournette and replace AP immediately, and then run all over us for a decade.

      • willbest

Impressive feat considering Minny doesn’t have a first round draft pick this year and he is going to go in the top ten.

      • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

Minny doesn’t have a 1st rd pick, so nope. They’re missing out on Fournette

        • willbest

          They might get Mixon though

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

            That I wonder about.

They went through some shit for AP whipping his kids ball with a tree branch, so maybe they shy away from Mixon.

Then again, they didn’t let go of AP either.

I would like to believe that, I really do, but many on here haven’t concluded that, and now that both Jimmy G and McCarron are off the market…

Ender too (see above/below) and the “silent majority” who still voted for Cutler in the past week.

          • leftcoastdave

Also a Cutty man. The QB, not the Scotch. Keep him, dump Hoyer, let Barkley get a shot after some time with the receivers, not as we saw being dumped into the fire mid-season behind the 8 ball.

          • BerwynBomber

That’s why the Condor lives on. Cutlerites are still a majority.

          • Irish Sweetness

Jeff – amazingly – has still not given us a Cutler Poll.

Even in this poll there was an opty to throw his name in there … you want any of these rooks … or Cutty?

I cannot believe that Pace will cut our balls off by cutting Jay. Draft away, but don’t ditch the only man in the house.

          • willbest

I think there is a difference between wanting him, and realizing he is the pragmatic choice. If you aren’t sold on drafting a QB at 3, who is the best QB available that you can get?

Cutler or Romo. I suppose you could try Kaep, but that is asking a hell of a lot of Loggains, and if you send Jeffery packing you are really expecting a lot out of Meredith.

          • leftcoastdave

F Kaep. Soldier Field should spit him out.

          • Irish Sweetness

If people love stats, they should love Kap.

          • willbest

G is back on the market. And I still place Cutler’s odds around 1 in 5 for next season. Now if Pace uses 3 of his 5 personal invites to bring QB’s to Halas for private workouts well then we should know.

          • Huge Bears Penis

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

eh. Score ended up being 17-31, so I can concede that in only his 1st true start against a SB contender.

            We lost to the JAGS.

            16-17 score. That’s about right.

          • Irish Sweetness

Cutler was playing injured. Hoyer wasn’t throwing the ball anywhere it could be intercepted, meaning they were rarely attacking throws, and he clearly showed he has not got the capability to win a game.

Imagine Hoyer when you’re behind? What could he do?

          • leftcoastdave

            Punt?

          • MB30SD

            Lame AND injured?

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

            Look at the sacks.

Cutler got sacked 4X more than Hoyer (in less games!)

That’s why fool’s always hurt. Hangs on to the ball too long. Gets hit. Gets hurt.

          • Irish Sweetness

A thumb and a shoulder are tough injuries for a QB. That Tampa game was too bad to be true.

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

That “Jay was inj” theory is fine and dandy, until you realize he had arguably his best game in a Bears uni the very week before.

And even IF he were inj, just means he’s brittle and can’t be counted on going forward.

But I don’t buy the injured narrative.

Those back-to-back games are Cutler in a nutshell.

Can have great games followed by absolute stinkers to mediocre teams.

            Next!

      • leftcoastdave

You mean smarter even than my belief that there is nobody at #3 who could help the bears as much as multiple picks, assuming they got fair value for the trade down?

Or is it merely that you love Hoyer so much?

        • Irish Sweetness

Surely nobody could be as good as two firsts a second and a third, giving us two firsts, two seconds and two thirds? That’s a whole lotta lovin’ right there.

          • MB30SD

Dude, you get offered that and you hotwire a car and drive as fast and as far as you can looking in your rearview for the sirens.

          • leftcoastdave

With Tennessee already playing the field as last year, hard to think we can get that, but FMV beats the three alone.

        • MB30SD

I quit obviously love Hoyer that much.

      • leftcoastdave

I did also say that I would prefer to see the DB problem fixed in FA and focus predominately on defense (what is available this year in the draft with WR’s) and be happy to win games 12-10 under Hoyer, so perhaps you might want to take that back.

        • Huge Bears Penis

1st that insult was not even that offensive. 2nd you have said a lot of stupid shit. 3rd quit being so damn needy.

Why wouldn’t Houston just draft Mahomes at #24. Jay for Oz and maybe their 2nd. Houston has $23 million of cap. So they aren’t without resources. Hopkins is to count for $8 million, but he is in his last year, they could extend him and cut his cap hit this year to $4 million if they wanted to. They could bonus out Oz and take the dead money next year. There are all kinds of things they could do if they wanted to try and sneak somebody in. I don’t know how good their LT is but he is 31 and set to make $10 million this year.

I have mixed feelings about Bmarsh.

On the one hand, he is talented and puts it all on the line. Passionate about winning. Dedicated.

On the other, he’s not all there. Reminds me of that one defensive guy on the Vikes who used to talk a lot and seemed genuinely 1 fork short of a full set. I forget his name.

If Bmarsh would land in a strong locker room like the Pats, Cards, Steelers…with a bonafide QB to check him, I think he would thrive and limit his craziness.

But he’s been on some pretty dysfunctional teams.

(also could be, HE contributes to the dysfunction).

        • willbest

Page was, indeed, on the Minnesota Supreme court.

He retired (mandatory) from the bench at age 70 in 2015.

Vikings thought he was washed up after 6 games in 1978.

He went and showed them otherwise for another 58 games as a Bear.

      That’s a REAL QB!

  • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

Watching top 10 speedsters in NFL.

    Gault made it.

    Surprised Hester didn’t.

Pretty sure Sayers would be on all-time Bears speedsters too:

Who wins in a 40yd dash footrace?

    Gault-Hester-Sayers?

(also, I heard Willie Galimore was pretty fast, but maybe you ole timers can verify)

    • Zap Rowsdower (GP)

      40: Hester

      100: Gault

      Sayers couldn’t hang with either.

      • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

I was thinking the same since Gault had those long strides.

Maybe Sayers was just from a different era but seemed like everyone but him was in slow-motion.

        • AlbertInTucson

Actually, back then, the highlights WERE in slo-motion. See my short dissertation to Butch above ( Set view on “Newest”).

      • Huge Bears Penis

Gault ran the 40 in 4.27 at age 48 in 2009 – that is equal to Hester 4.27 in his prime

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

Damn. I wish I was there in 2009. Mt Sac isn’t that far from me. A black Hitler would make Gault breed 20 babies…

“It’srare someone as humble as Willie has this perfection for life,”
McKinnon said. “His No. 1 thing is preparation. He really hasn’t changed
who he is in the last 20 years.”

Experts in aging say it’s a miracle.

“Mr.Gault is a remarkable individual,” said Catherine Sarkisian, associate
professor of geriatrics at UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine. Whereas decreased aerobic capacity and muscle atrophy begins at 25 for most men, “Gault probably has a delayed decrease in the maximum heart rate, and a lower rate of atrophy of the fast twitch muscles.”

Scientists would love to study Gault.

“Thisshows we have not yet plumbed what training would do to people at older
ages,” said Steven Austad, a biologist who studies aging at the University of Texas. “What’s the optimum training in your 40s? It may bethat he’s hit on something really good. Or he’s some strange genetic outlier.”

          • Huge Bears Penis

wow that escalated quickly…. a black Hitler, really???

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

It’s a joke cuz Hitler was infamous for breeding his athletes.

Gault also did 1600 crunches in his 50s. Holy shit, I feel like a slouch now.

          • Huge Bears Penis

I understand the joke, just a little morbid for my liking.

          • leftcoastdave

Doubt it was the same “gene” as the Williams sisters.

        • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

And didn’t Gault run that in a parking lot with a tie or something?

          Yeah, dude was FAST.

But Hester on the field looked blazing too.

          • Huge Bears Penis

Hester had the ability to go from 0 to top end in like 2 steps and not lose anything when cutting.

      • AlbertInTucson

I don’t think Gale beats either, even in his prime, but remember, his highlights are virtually all NFL Films work.

Back in those early days of NFL films, they shot at 32 frames per second and the film played back at 24 fps so you are watching him at about 75% of full speed.

They thought the slight slo-mo of their film gave it a kind of mystique.

So, you aren’t actually seeing Sayers at full speed.

Pretty sure they STILL do it because when they cut in the NFL footage on NFL Replay, usually with the team’s radio play by play, they have to put pauses in the play by play to sync it to the, slightly slower, NFL Films footage.

        • Irish Sweetness

          Interesting, thanks Al.

          • AlbertInTucson

NFL Films made me a football fan and were a huge part of the NFL’s growth..

The Sabols have my utmost respect.

I still have a reel of highlights from 1965 on 8mm film.

            8mm.

            Not even Super 8.

        • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

Wow. Had NO clue about that.

          Learn something new everyday.

Would explain why it looked like slow-mo to me lol

      • CanadaBear

Who knows? Gault probably. All I know is Gale never got caught on long runs until after he was injured.

    • AlbertInTucson

Galimore was killed in in 1964 (car accident) at age 28. ’64 was when I was just starting to take an interest in the NFL. My serious interest coincides with the advent of Sayers and Butkus.

      • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

Yeah, I read up on him on a Bears history piece. Maybe that’s where I got that Galimore was fast .

His nicknames were “the whisp” and “galloping Galimore” so I figured he was fast or something.

        edit. Googled this right away.

His career average was 4.5 carry.

But, he also coughed the ball up 34 times in his 5 and a half seasons, several of which were only the 12 games schedule variety.

    • AlbertInTucson

Gault’s best seasons came as a Raider.

I believe he caught only 1 TD pass in the Super Bowl season in addition to 1 kick-off return for a TD.

He was also NOT noted for having the best pair of hands.

        I was surprised by Mahomes.

        He looks bigger than that.

Peterman to a lesser extent but looks like he has those paws.

        Kaaya needs some deep dish.

Checked out Webb (vs USC and Stanford)

        http://draftbreakdown.com/video/davis-webb-vs-usc-2016/

He’s the reincarnation of Dan LeFevour.

He’d be lucky to go in the 6th.

        • Irish Sweetness

As in, that’s what Pace will do. He won’t pull the trigger on a QB in the first, but will make a gesture that he’s attempting to address the QB situation (whilst keeping Cutty on the roster).

          Methinks.

    • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

      Wow. Just watched Peterman.

      Impressed.

Like every college QB, from shot-gun spread/read.

However, Peterman did run more than a few plays behind center, so at least we know he has some experience with that footwork.

Seemed to do everything possible on a subpar offense in which he was always under siege while his receivers dropped everything.

The tape I saw, he did a little bit of everything.

      Under center.
Moved the coverage with his eyes.
Didn’t just read one side of the field
      Pump fakes
      Play action
      Shovel passer extraordinaire
Took shots while knowing he was getting drilled
      Accurate on the run
      Mobile
      Kept eyes downfield
      Displays touch
Balls. Willing to throw it into tight windows
Can throw it from different platforms

      The Bad

Broken record. Shotgun-spread O (but seemed less than say Clemson)
      Sometimes seemed oblivious about robbers
      Doesn’t seem to set feet
      Decent arm, but no rocket
Often dives headfirst (could be seen as positive. Competitor)
      Sometimes OVER aggressive – reckless
      Low comp % (60%)
      One yr wonder

All in all, I like him better than a lot of other QBs, including Kizer., Kaaya, Mohomes and Webb

In fact, I think I’d rather take a flier on him even over Watson (obviously, not in the 1st)

Peterman looks a lot like Trubisky (but without that zip). Has some Romo to his game.

If we could score him in the 3rd or even 4rth, I would be good with that.

The two games I checked out from him were vs Clemson (in which he went toe-to-to with an undefeated #2 team) and Miami (in a down pour).

      http://draftbreakdown.com/video/nathan-peterman-vs-clemson-2016-2/

Edit. Here’s NFL profile (kinda reflects mine)

      • Irish Sweetness
        • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

His poise, pocket presence and competitiveness are tops.

His accuracy is a bit inconsistent. He looks like he hits guys in perfect stride, but he doesn’t sport a 60%+ comp rate, so gotta figure out what that’s about.

          But I’m in on Peterman.

      • http://www.dabearsbeat.com/ Johnathan Wood

To be fair, I’ve only seen him play one game, but it was against a mediocre Northwestern D and I was not impressed.

        • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

Check out that Clemson game. I mean, that was pretty much his national championship and he stepped up while under constant duress.

The Miami game in a downpour was revealing too.

I picked those teams cuz I figured they had better Ds and ovearall teams then say NorthWestern.

Could be that Peterman plays to his level, or maybe he just performs better under pressure.

With only 1 yr tape, hard to decipher, but in the 3rd or esp 4rth, I’m buying him.

      • CanadaBear

Fox and the coaches had him in the Senior Bowl and have been linked to him ever since.

        • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

I was very surprised by him. Much like with Buddha Baker, I’m like, why aren’t ppl talking about this kid more?

If you watch the tape, you’ll see what I mean.

Made some baffling decisions, and at times just oblivious to lurkers, but he was making plays behind a very suspect O.

Their D would regularly give up 30+.

Only reason they were even competitive was because of him. (Do the Panthers even have ONE player projected in the first 3 rds?)

  • AlbertInTucson

  • Irish Sweetness

Anyone think Brandon’s request to be released is his inside knowledge that Cutty will be a Jet?

Brandin Cooks takes over from AJ as the hot FA WR. Sorry AJ ….

Rumor #1 : The Bears and Jets are looking at Mike Glennon ??? I guess the logical conclusion from that is that the Jets are looking at Jay Cutler. Why would we pay Mile Glennon $12M when … y’know … we’re paying Jay the same amount. Why would we shoot ourselves in the foot?

Rumor #2: Kaep is persona non grata at the Niners and is about the only remotely talented QB we could get our hands on (to start).

    • BerwynBomber

Cutler should be better than Glennon but don’t bet the house on it.

The couple of times that Cutler has had a solid-to-excellent back-up behind him in the last four or five years, if not his entire Bears career, the back-up (specifically McCown or Hoyer) has either played as well as Cutler or slightly outplayed him. Glennon, for all we know, might do the same.

Having to pay Glennon 12M a year is another matter. But if it is only a two year deal with limited guaranteed money it might be a decent bridge move.

    • Malice Halice

Still no word bout Tyrod tho, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed till then. Otherwise Kaep is da next best choice. We will need to get balls-deep in FA to grab provocative additions to the secondary n WR. Top pick should be a safety, 2nd pick should be a another S or CB who compliments whoever we got in FA. 3rd round buddha Baker.

A straight up Cutty poll, mind. No fringe interests. It wouldn’t have to be a Yes/No deal either – you could do it this way :

Do you want to see Jay Cutler under Center next season ….

    A) Under no circumstances whatsoever

    B) Yes, backed up by a vet.

    C) Yes, as long as we draft one.

Let the lurking public have their say, Jefe. Please. On behalf of the voiceless ones …. and for the love of Cutty …. give us our poll … this daily bread … and if for no other reason than it’ll give us a nice blank new wall to paint the link to Friday-Tits on.

    • Sauron’s right eyeball

Whats your purpose of a poll Irish?

      • Irish Sweetness

There’s X voices on the blog. Lots more readers who don’t voice an opinion – I wonder what they think. The media, and in in fact everyone, assume Cutty is gone. Based on a ‘leak’ to a reporter months after the alleged ‘exit meeting’, and general ill will towards the man. Pace doesn’t have many options for a viable starting QB outside of Cutty. He makes throws few can make, he’s no bum. He was playing injured last year .. the year after he’d turned the corner as a QB and the penny finally dropped.

Do we want to win or lose, that is the question.

        • CanadaBear

Who has general ill will towards Cutler? We just want him gone. 8 years of mediocrity (at best) is enough.

If they get him, I won’t be surprised if Cutty huff ass stay in da Chi. Last year I’d be all over it but this year we need D, n a guy who can read coverages n has witt when throwing the ball under pressure.

    • http://www.dabearsbeat.com/ Johnathan Wood

Even with Long 100%, I like Wagner. He’s a massive upgrade at RT.

If you have a stud RT, you can help the LT more. Giving the Bears a stud RT like this, coupled with their studly interior OL, would give them one of the best OL in the NFL. Awesome both for Howard continuing to pound the ball and for a young QB stepping in.

      • Zap Rowsdower (GP)

He’s a “Massie” upgrade at RT.

What you did there. I see it.

      • leftcoastdave

Bingo. And maybe Massie can be rotated in to G if needed.

Build in dem TRENCHES where the war is won.

Fix the DB with two out of FA and look for one more DL stud. The TE’s are deep in the draft.

        • http://www.dabearsbeat.com/ Johnathan Wood

Massie could be cut if they want to replace him with Wagner.

Otherwise he’s a much better 3rd OT than they have right now (unless you count Long as your 3rd OT). But I don’t know if either he or Wagner could do LT, which is what you ideally want. Need to be able to move at least one of your top 3 OTs around in case of injury.

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

Gotta imagine that Wagner can fill in emergency at LT, then Massie moves up to RT.

It’s either that, or pick up a Webb-like project LT/RT

      Well done.

The boobies on the chick with the starish looking necklace are a revelation. So very aesthetically pleasing. Yum.

  • BerwynBomber

Glennon’s rookie year he played 13 games and compiled a passer rating of 84 and a QBR of 58. These are basically Cutty and Hoyer-like career averages. Then TB brought in Lovie before Glennon’s sophomore year and they promptly signed McCown to starter money. (Anyone remember how Lovie overrated some of his ex-players/character guys?) I distinctly remember commenting on this blog — maybe a couple of times in fact — that I was surprised TB had so quickly given up on Glennon and/or they seemingly had not let him compete for the job.

You know what happens next. TB hands McCown the job and they promptly go 2-14 and end up with the #1 pick in the draft, which they use on Winston.

Who knows what the fuck Glennon is (beyond a dude with a limited ceiling)? Could be a guy who will completely crap the best as a starter. Could be a guy who could play to Cutty’s or Hoyer’s level or even slightly above it.

But he would presumably be brought in only as a bridge; i.e., not as THE guy, which would be the case if the Bears picked up Jimmy G or Taylor (Taylor, right now, is scheduled to be paid $27M next year — highest salary in the league).

So you still draft a kid and let Glennon start for a year or two until the future is ready. Then Glennon either picks up a Surface or you say sayonara.

I recall Bucs fans seemed to think he had upside. At least after he started a few times. Not sure what happened after that.

      • willbest

What happened is somebody let Lovie near an offense again.

      • Huge Bears Penis

well there are Bears fans that still think Fales has upside. It maybe just one fan that thinks that but if there is one there are probably more.

        • MB30SD

I thought we cut that fucking CUCK?

    Projected highest salaries for 2017.

    http://www.spotrac.com/rankings/nfl/

    • willbest

And then Tyrod makes $13 million a year after this year. Which is why the Bills might complain, but they will pay him because he overperformed his contract this year.

      • BerwynBomber

Given signing bonuses, guaranteed money and the year-to-year fluctuations of individual contracts, that list of course paints a less than complete picture. But it is interesting.

Rodgers and Brees, at respectively, 30th and 39th highest paid. Bradford and Cutty, respectively, at 9th and 22nd (though I doubt Cutty will actually see 15M next year).

  • CanadaBear

Honest question for you Cutty fans. How in the world do the Bears sell year 9 of Cutler? Hey, he’s best of a bunch of dregs! Maybe the light comes on in year 13? He totally sucks but we love him?

    • willbest

Pace is in a bit of a bind in some sense. The evidence suggests that Cutler will be the best QB available to the Bears for 2017 (baring a gamble on Romo). But if he passes on say Kizer who goes on to put up Derreck Carr or Wentz rookie season (inconsistent with lots of promise) he is going to have some explaining to do in George’s office.

      • BerwynBomber

I think Pace is safe, at least that is my reading of the Alshon tea leaves.

        • Sauron’s right eyeball

Yup, it’s about as obvious as dogs balls.

      • MB30SD

you peeps are insane… and more HBP and his crew.

Data did the comparison, as has Butch. The delta is about 1 win difference based on the data we have. And that means 4 games for hoyer without a D or WR who could catch the ball.

Why again do we think cutler is better than hoyer?

More exciting? Sure, in the games he wins, but then you’re not taking into consideration the soul-crushing losses with brain exploding strip-sacks, brainless INTs and sacks because he holds onto the ball and has about as much pocket presence as a fucking turnip.

I’d MUCH rather fix the d and specials, have hoyer average 300/2/0 and let the D and specials put some close wins on their backs.

absolutely KCUF this rollercoaster cutler bullfuckingshit. So over it. Let’s move the fuck on and close the door on the last decade of brutal unmet expectations. We all know this is a bridge year regardless of who’s fucking back there (unless we sell our soul to lucifootball for jimmy), so why why why not close to door and totally look forward. We’re only getting 7-10 (max) wins next year no matter who’s back there.

        • willbest

          10? Ever the optimist.

          1) Hoyer is not going to be significantly cheaper than Cutler. Maybe $3 million. That is not make or break. Wouldn’t you pay $3 million for 1 win?

          2) You can still build the D and ST if you stick with Cutler. In fact, keeping Cutler makes it less likely to draft a QB at #3 and more likely you grab one of those guys in round 3 that Butch has been doing film study on. Hoyer is who your QB1 if you want to give your rookie a little bit of time.

          • MB30SD

            1. Nope.

            2. Meh, I doubt that. I think you’re either all in this year (taking a QB @ 3 or trying to get tyrod/jimmy), or you focus on errathing else and get your guy next year.

It’s an org changing decision and likely one that will make/break Pace’s tenure and even career. I think this year’s options in the draft are WAY to risky for that kind of decision.

The cutler thing is really about culture/regime to me. Do you want to stay mired in the sheite of lovie/emery/trestman or do you want to finally shed the last huge piece of that (turrible) history and start really building your own regime.

        • Huge Bears Penis

          1. You keep bringing up that Hoyer did not have WR that could catch the ball. Yet he had our full arsenal of WRs when he was playing. Even White was an option. The WRs/TE injuries did not happen until after hoyer went down. So quit saying he was throwing the ball to nobody.

          2. as i said earlier, I expect cutler to be gone. I just don’t want that crap stain of a QB hoyer. Just because I don’t want hoyer as QB does not mean that I am in full support of cutty and it does not mean it is not time to move on from cutler. #anyonebuthoyer

          • willbest

Exactly, I am indifferent to Cutler. I won’t be annoyed if he is the QB next year. And part of me wants him cut just to validate my theories on the QB market.

          • MB30SD

            1. don’t you damn well tell me what to do!!! How daaaare you! Wasn’t he in the game where his receivers dropped 4 TD passes right in the breadbasket, or was that barkley?

            2. Suuuure. I don’t get it, but ok. If really won’t matter next year anyway, so honestly, why does it matter. All kidding aside I think hoyer is as much of a cuck as you do (well, maybe not that much), but he’s not a chise option for us or anyone, but he’s our best option when we should be focusing on fixing everything else and trying to get our chise in next year’s draft when there will supposedly be at least 3 MUCH stronger options that this year.

For the record, I would be down trying this (http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/bills-reportedly-leaning-toward-cutting-tyrod-taylor/ar-AAnLbIt?li=BBnb7Kz) for the right pricetag (but still not our chise)

            I’m on the #anyonebutcutler bus.

            100%

          • Huge Bears Penis

            1. Barkley.
            2. I would rather take a shot with a player that has more upside. We know what hoyer is, and i think the success he had with us was just a fluke. Go with Glennon, kap, definitely Tyrod, or Barkley.

          • MB30SD

            1. & 2. Why not let it be a constant cuck battle? Best cuck starts. I don’t give a fuck if that’s hoyer, barkley, or even shaw. As long as it’s the best of the three we ‘already have’, and not some big risk that kap will finally breakout again without an insane D and Jimmy H calling the shots.

I’m down with taking a shot at Tyrod if the price is right, but I think it’s still just a stopgap and he’s not a chise-level guy. I still think we need to sell the farm (a la TENN) to get that guy next year, so why even shake the boat and spend the money?! Just roll with the Best of the cucks and get our mariotta and a WR1 next year when the D will be 100% better?

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

I can understand assuming the Hoyer crash. Can’t possibly go an entire season w no INTs and such a low sack rate or fumbles.
HOWEVER the evidence ON THE BEARS i think warrants giving him another shot (barring Tyrod). Skeptics probably sneered the same about Gannon, Warner, Palmer before they blew up later in their careers. Precedents exist and perhaps we’re due.
I don’t get Cutlerites. They’re willing to give him 8 years of chances to clean up his act, even after all the stare downs, strip sacks, 4int games, league leading soul crushing INTS , injuries, vut suddenly a QB comes along as the antidote to that, and the response is “Nah fuck him. He’s bald and doesn’t take enough chances”
            Boggles the mind.
That being said, Pace still needs another QB in case Hoyer doesn’t go Warner.
I say Peterman in the 4rth and Shaw.
I would get excited to see either get their chance if Hoyer crashes.

    • willbest

Just as an aside. I think Pace is going to have an easier time selling Cutler as QB1 in 2017, than whoever he plans to slot in at WR1.

    • MB30SD

      Exactly canada.

There are a ton of regs who still don’t know the definition of insanity.

  • willbest

“Glennon, Hoyer, Barkley will never be better than Cutler.”

This seems like a stretch with respects to Glennon. His career numbers. His completion rate is marginally below Cutlers 59.5% to 61.8%, but he throws 33% fewer interceptions per drop back. His sack rate isn’t that great but he is basically a sophomore and Cutler is a decade starter. And the whole Tampa team was dogshit when he was a starter.

    • BerwynBomber

If he is talking an entire career, no argument. If he is talking next year, it is a coin flip with Glennon and Hoyer.

Did we read somewhere that this is a deep WR draft? The Isengard half-orcs are having trouble with their googles, but they distinctly remember reading something about the WR class not having a lot of standouts but a lot of 2nd-3rd round depth. AJ was a 2nd rounder, maybe his replacement can be had on the cheap in the 3rd?

Last year – or maybe it was the year before – there was some dude in the draft, a DT. All I remember was this guy was some crazy ass freak of nature. I want to say his college jersey was green, and he wore a helmet with a crazy ass facemask – it looked like a grid or a cow catcher. and he wore a half jersey so you could see his washboard and he was insane strong and taking on 3 blockers.

Who was that guy and what happened to him? Anybody remember this or am I hallucinating about broccoli man?

  • Zap Rowsdower (GP)

The SEC’s leader in sacks (12.5), tackles for loss (19.5) and forced fumbles (five) despite seeing an array of double teams, Myles Garrett has more than lived up to his enormous recruiting hype. Listed at 6-5, 262, Garrett’s got the chiseled physique of a DB — a huge DB. The junior has off-the-charts workout numbers. He told me this month he power cleans 440 pounds and bench-presses 485 — staggering when you consider he also has a 40-inch vertical and his fastest 40 time at A&M, he said, is 4.45. “If I could dip into the 4.3s, that’d be great,” he told FOX Sports. It’s also been insane to see someone that big moving that fast. Garrett’s diet is pretty tight. “I just try to stay away from soda and try to stay away from candy and sweets,” he said, adding that he thinks he can bulk up to 270. Scary thought: Garrett doesn’t turn 21 until December.

    Jesus.

    • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

Yeah, that’s what I expected. A physical freak. I’m a bit surprised he’s already dieting like that. Forte stood away from soda too.

      6’5 270 dude running a 4.3

      Wow.

      • MB30SD

So simple. Here, let me put all the diet gurus/books/swindles out of business:

        1. It’s 85% diet… NEVER forget that

        2. Do the following:
        – No Soda
        – No ‘White’ processed grains (bread, rice, pasta, anything wheat-based and processed)
        – Cut your sugar intake to as little as possible
        – Eat as much lean protein (fish, chicken, grassfed bison/venison/etc..) and veggies as you want… add fruit but minimally and in the morning is better
        – Stop eating after 6ish
        – Have 5-7 smaller meals a day, split them into at least 20 grams of protien/only good carb and fat. (a good example is… handfull of almonds, 2 carrots, 1/2 cup raw broccoli, 1/2 a chicken breast, apple)
        – Drink fucktons of water erra day
        – Cheat. As long as your meals average out to 80% good 20% cheat a week, you’ll be ok.

        3. Move at least 30 minutes a day (preferablly 60) – This can be walking your fat lazy ass around the building at lunch or doing stairs at lunch

Bingo, you can throw away your fucking weight watchers garbage and get rid of that thighmaster.

Gonna have to copy this onto the fridge.

Cutting the sugar and meat will be fucking hard. Sugar is in everything, and meat, fuck, I loooove meat (I love seafood too though) ; would have to make a concerted effort into buying grassfed bison/venison.

          Whole foods? Trader Joes?

          • MB30SD

I shop exclusively at whole paycheck… but mostly because of my kids. It’s fucking spensive, but I don’t cut corners for my babies.

Mix it up. Do you guys have Sprouts up there? Sprouts is GREAT for cheap produce.

Yeah, sugar is the hard one for me… my mom passed her sweet tooth on to me. I’ve been horrible for about a year now. I’ve made a deal with myself and I’m getting serious with my diet and getting back on the bike and in the pool bigtime starting next week.

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

Yeah, we have Sprouts and Whole Foods and a few others, and of course farmer markets. There’s a Sprouts about 10 mins from me, so maybe check that out.

Yeah, I got a small sweet tooth too, but not even chocolates and such, but more with stuff like sweet breads or drinks like gatorade, juices, coffee, and sadly coke (only fucking soda I like, and probably the worst). I know I gotta cut that shit off, but it’s like kicking heroine.

Gonna make a concerted effort though. I’m HWP, 5’9 185ish, broad shoulder, 33inch waist, but I KNOW I’m not as “healthy” as I should be, esp my cardio. I would probably like to be around 170-75 and fit.

Don’t really give a fuck about looking muscular. I’m not about to play in the NFL, so just wanna get a bit lighter with higher energy level.

          • MB30SD

yeah, Sprouts is good. def check it.

Duuuude, that’s the worst. Seriously, just kicking the coke will do so much.

Yeah, I’m 5’9″ 190, 32′ waist about 15% bf right now… and jacked as fuck!! hahaha, just kidding. I should be 180 and around 8-9% bf.

Tough to be dicipline around the kids when they love quesadillas, mac n cheese, n shit… and I buy the WF versions and they waste so much, sometimes it’s hard to just toss 2/3rds of a $8 mach n cheese bowl (and it tastes like liquid cheese sex).

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

Fuck, can’t east quesedillas or cheese? Man, they’re soooo goood, esp the steak quesedillas. Fak.

The Bears tried that already with Jimmy Clausen.

      hee hee

9ers technically don’t have ONE qb on the roster. We’re late to the party.

Clausen is a punter’s wet dream.

Fournette ran a 4.52 and posted a 28 inch vert.

      • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

        He’s a coke machine!

Bo ran like a 4.2 and AP ran a 4.41 (granted at 217, but his natural weight was close to 230)

Tebus posted a 38 inch vert! Tebus!

        • MB30SD

Yeah, tebus wasn’t 240 either. I was a 33″ in college @ 205, so really don’t put that much stock in that stat. Besides, not like he’s going to be a jump call target.

          • MB30SD

just saw your post above… I can see that, but explosiveness doesn’t seem to be fornnette’s issue does it?

          • willbest

Bell ain’t explosive. He just waits for his lineman to do their thing and then shoots the gap.

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

I don’t think Fournette has the same running style though. Ppl compare him to AP and Dickerson for a reason.

Also, Bell didn’t become a good HB till he lost weight (smart – to mirror his run style) but since then has been somewhat inj prone.

Bell also was the top peformer in the 3-cone drill (6.75) which usu tests agility (stop-start).

That being said, I don’t think Fournette will bomb in the NFL.

It’s just that he’s not that “generational” specimen many were proclaiming.

We as Bear fans should not be duped by the combine stats.

Forte fell cuz he ran like a 4.6 as did Howard 4.59 (38″ vert), but neither of them were billed as “generational” lock top 5

          • willbest

I wonder if his results are enough for him to fall to 15 where the Colts probably gamble on him.

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

Oh yeah. Teams will say Fournette runs faster on game day, etc.

It doesn’t hurt that Dalvin Cook ran a 4.49 at like 225ish

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

        http://deadspin.com/leonard-fournette-i-didnt-get-fat-that-was-just-water-1792936154

the only reason I know people drink that much water is in advance of drug testing and need to flush their systems.

      From some PFT posters

Thank you for your ignorance, but the vertical jump absolutely does matter for RBs. As Todd McShay said today, “drill is a great judge of a player’s lower-body explosiveness and ability to create power from the ground up.” Kind of like Cardinals RB David Johnson posting a 41.5″ vert last year.

I’m an ex track jumping coach.

      ———————————–

Vertical leap is a good measure of fast twitch muscle response, but it absolutely requires prior training. You can increase fast twitch response through focused plyometric exercise training. Maximum with proper training is a genetic limitation, but the biggest variability is the type and intensity of training that has been done in the prior 2 to 4 months. You lay off the training and it decays quickly.

My guess is this guy hasn’t been doing his plyos, and he’s been hitting the burger stand too often. Not all college trainers include a lot of plyos in their program even though they should, especially for skills positions.

You want to get bigger, lift weights. You want to get quicker, do plyos.

At the 2006 NFL Scouting Combine, Cutler completed 23 repetitions of a 225-pound bench press (more than some linemen) and ran a 40-yard dash in 4.76 seconds.

Mike Glennon didn’t partake in bench press and ran a slow 4.94

    Bills leaning towards cutting Tyrod

“Most recently, Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News said that the sense emerging at the Scouting Combine is that the Bills will move on.”

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/03/03/bills-reportedly-leaning-toward-cutting-tyrod-taylor/

    • MB30SD

      Apology accepted, read down. Disrespect.

    • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

After reading some of the PFT reviews by Bills’ fans, I’m questioning Tyrod Sounds like their own QB civil war . Here’s a pretty insightful “profile”

“FYI, I tape every game because I look back to see what went right and what went wrong in each game. That means nitwit I do know he is not a good QB. He is “Fool’s Gold” like you, the Fooled. There are many fails he has in the position. I will list a few for you. He can not see the whole field. He rarely throws over the middle which makes Clay seem bad to the dumb. Clay is a good TE who get’s very few passes thrown his way by Tyrod. He rarely goes to a second option on pass plays. He runs way too quick. He has no poise in the pocket. As soon as he thinks there’s pressure he tucks tail and runs. He is timid at the position. He never ever throws in tight circles, hence his timidity. That line about the WR’s hurt is also dumb. Every game there were WR’s and Clay open sometimes WIDE open, yet he either never looked or just plain ignored them. The Ravens game showed how bad he truly is. The very 1st drive. Remember that one? 2 consecutive obvious runs for a total of 4 yards which brought up 3rd and 6. What does he do? He throws the 1st of many dump off passes to Lesean. Lesean was double covered? He caught the pass anyway. The pass was low and at his knees?? The completion was for 4 measly yards making it 4th down and a Punt?? Meanwhile Sammy was open, waving his arms and screaming for the ball. No look, no pass. That was bad enough but there was worse. Robert Woods was WIDE open 30 yards up field!! The nearest defender was 13 yards away!! 13 Yards, let that sink in. He just is not good period. This kind of thing happened a lot all year long. He is exciting true but a QB not hardly.”

      And another Bills poster

      Problem is he doesn’t win.
      ================================

Eh, he’s 14-14 on a 14-14 team. With a 92.3 career quarterback rating you could do worse.

      ——————————————————————–

14-14 is kind of deceptive. Yes, the Bills had a banged up receiver corps last year, but they still had some capable receivers. He was horrendous in the 4th qtr when they were tied or down by a TD. He couldn’t hit Sammy Watkins when he needed him. He either can’t or won’t throw over the middle of the field, wasting a valuable weapon in tight end in Charles Clay. His tendency is to look at one receiver and then run. I don’t believe he can read a defense. All of which takes him out of consideration as an elite QB. I say cut him, sign an experienced QB and draft someone in the 3rd or 4th round to develop for a couple of years.

      • willbest

experienced QBs available this off season

Keesum, Cutler, Hoyer, Glennon, Romo, Kaep. Who in thee fuck would argue for anybody on that list over Tyrod.

He could even be right about Tyrod not working his progressions as well as he should, and tucking and running too early. But its hard to argue with back to back seasons at nearly 70 QBR and a 90+ PR. He might not win you games, but he isn’t going to lose them for you either.

        • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Forget-me-Naught!(Butch)

It’s funny cuz many of the Bills fans on Team Tyrod are arguing, “It’s either Tyrod or Cutler or Hoyer. Go Tyrod”

I think the difference is that Watson @#10 prolly isn’t as much as a reach as say @#3.

I could see Bills logic. Watson. Cheaper. Younger. Hardly a discernible difference.

But Trubisky or Watson at #3 would be much harder to sell.

        • BerwynBomber

IF he can remain healthy and you are talking a year or two, it would be Romo. And it would not even be close.

          Long-term, it’s Taylor.

          • willbest

You are of course right, but back to back seasons of back injury? And that is behind the best O-line in football. I would rather lay street bets on the routlette wheel.

    From NFL.COM:

    Overview
As a top-50 high school recruit out of Detroit, McDowell could have gone anywhere. He went against his family’s wishes and enrolled in East Lansing, which made head coach Mark Dantonio and his staff quite
happy. After playing mostly in a reserve role as a freshman (15 tackles, 1.5 sacks), McDowell lined up two second-team All-Big Ten seasons for the Spartans. Using an explosive first step, he racked up 13 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks as a sophomore as the team made the college football playoffs. Both Sparty and McDowell saw things turn south a bit in 2016, including his numbers (seven TFL, 1.5 sacks) and the team’s wins (just three). The junior suffered an ankle injury mid-season, which in part
    caused his lack of production.

    Analysis
    Strengths

Slippery and long. Combination of arm length and flexible torso allow him to slither into gaps and create disruptions for blockers. Freaky combination of size and athleticism. Can overwhelm
blockers with pure strength and explosiveness when his feet are right. Strong enough in lower half to play through contact and cause stress in the pocket. Has tremendous amount of untapped potential waiting to be unlocked. Quick, strong hands in pass rush. Able to attack the edge with club-and-swim pet move. Can crank up a pocket-caving bull rush. Can redirect his weight and maintain pursuit of scrambling mobile quarterbacks. Long frame and play speed can close out perimeter runs and
foil them before corner is turned. Elite playmaking radius. Explosive lateral movement and quickness. Can bound from one gap to the next in Sparty’s slanting defensive front. Will be extremely difficult to cross face as he learns the position. Has experience up and down the defensive line.

    Weaknesses

Footwork and technique are a mess. Plays with inconsistent base width and overall balance. Struggles to keep feet clean and ends up on the ground. Lines up in narrow, three-point stance from interior and struggles to fight back against down blocks and double teams. Can be washed out of his gap too often. High center of gravity made interior work a challenge at times. Can bend, but lets high
pad level get the best of him. Doesn’t consistently utilize his length with first hands. Has to become better at controlling the point of attack with his natural attributes. Needs to punch and control rather
than leaning on blockers. Production doesn’t match up with the traits and the talent. Scouts concerned about work ethic and leadership.

Sources Tell Us “He has a chance to be a dominant player in our league. I mean dominant. It hasn’t turned on for him all the way yet but if it does, he could be like Mario Williams. He’s just a little lazy and I worry about whether he is going to be a self-starter.” — NFC North area scout

    NFL Comparison Ezekiel Ansah

Bottom Line Has similar physical traits and abilities of Arik Armstead and DeForest Buckner, but may not share their football character. McDowell lacked production along the interior and could
benefit from a move to a defensive end spot in a 4-3 or 3-4 front. McDowell is raw, but when he flashes, it can be blinding. McDowell is an explosive, ascending prospect with All-Pro potential if he grows into
his body and takes the necessary coaching.
