• Sauron’s right eyeball

Why tag a player that hasn’t played like a franchise player and doesn’t want to stay in Chicago? It’s the right decision.

    • SC Dave

Well, given the track record of Pace with receivers, I’m not so confident it is.

      • Sauron’s right eyeball

You can’t change the culture on a football team with a lazy #1WR.

Objection, misstates the record, ie. Kyle Fuller.

  • Big Mike

A regrettable decision. Talent is talent. So know cotton candy leg no experience Kevin White is our new #1. Now the Bears have to go fill another hole in an offense that has a decent line, a good running back and jack shit after that. 5 win team. Starting all over again.

    • Sauron’s right eyeball

I disagree Mike. You’re not accounting for all the injuries last year.

      • Big Mike

And that team won 3 ball games because of injuries and lack of depth. Now the QB who would have played had he not been injured is gone and the #1 receiver who would have played had he not had injuries is gone. So most of the argument (at least on offense) about injuries last year is gone. So now the Bears have to chase and overpay talent. WRs always get paid. But.. we’ll see.

        • Sauron’s right eyeball

No way they could have signed Alshon without overpaying him. I get your point though.

          • Big Mike

So they are going to overpay the next guy. We know Alshon is a stud. Top Talent is just that. I’m just grumpy because we look like the Browns.

          • Malice Halice

So who we gone overpay? T.Pryor?!

          • Big Mike

Don’t know. Only two options. Overpay a WR or draft one.

          • MB30SD

            1. Fuck alshon powderpuff Jeffrieses

            2. We ARE the fucking browns man. You guys all have to realize that. Reality hurts. Look at our last 10 years yo

          • Big Mike

I don’t want to be the Browns.. 🙁 WRs are a fussy group. They’re like 3 year olds. All of them, with few exceptions. I just don’t believe you let talent like his leave. But I’m so “whatever” right now.

            Jeffrieses, Brownses . . .

          • chitownproud85

Its painful thinking about how true this post is. We really are headed there.

    • Irish Sweetness

They’ll sign a couple, Mike. Cam is the current #1 IFF AJ doesn’t end up taking a Bears deal. Does Kevin come on in leaps and bounds? There are some very nice receivers in that list of 40 FAs. Lots of em. If we draft any of the top TEs we’d have a weapon there too.

I plan to run it. Anyone else on the Lenny and Jordan train?

      • Big Mike

We don’t need a couple. Unlike the O-line or D-line, WR isn’t solved by having a lot of decent players. You need a top end. A true stud. Alshon is one. He will be snapped up and PAID. What I’m hoping is the Bears just didn’t want to rent him for a year with the Tag, because they know his market value is going to be ridiculous and they don’t want to invest that much at WR.

        • Irish Sweetness

I guess they’d re-sign Deonte. He showed flashes. Cam. Kevin. IS Royal under contract? That’s five without signing anyone.

He might test the waters, but not a find a home …. but do POX want him back?

          • SC Dave

Royal cant stay on the field, Deonte is a JAG, and by all appearances White is a bust.

          • CanadaBear

He will find a home. Meredith may or may not be a one-year wonder. White will be bucking tremendous odds just to become a journeyman WR and why would you want Royal back? 2 forgettable years all banged up. Time to move on.

          • Bender McLugh

White better not be done man, that would be very sad

          • CanadaBear

I’m with ya but history is not kind to drafted top 10 WR’s that have missed as much time as White. FUCK!

          • Bender McLugh

for real, we’ll see though. Bears are great at bucking the trend….said no one ever.

          • Bender McLugh

I can’t see Royal being back, too fragile

          • leftcoastdave

You all are forgetting my favorite candy bar. Butterfingers. Josh Bellamy sure can get open. Can his catching technique be fixed? Learn how to time a jump? And then there is the project who we’ll see more of, Daniel Braverman.
AJ was Bad Tude. Get Bad Tude out of the locker room.

          • CanadaBear

Is Bellamy that adept at getting open or did the other team ignore him because he can’t catch? Gotta admit he was open a lot last year but overall it didn’t make any difference. Led the league in percentage of drops (and it wasn’t even close).

          • Bender McLugh

he did seem to get separation more often than not, but I have no clue if that was due to defensive zone schemes or what not.

          • CanadaBear

Same with me. I was shocked how often he was open but then the shock turned to anger every time he dropped another pass.

          • The Bellamy defense.

Just let him run whatever. He can’t catch a cold anyways.

          • SC Dave

            Says who?

        • SC Dave

Lets hope Rodgers doesn’t get him.

          • Big Mike

That would be about right. Shit.. can you imagine.. AJ would have a monster year. I can’t remember Rodgers having a receive that good.

          • CanadaBear

I can only imagine how pissed I’ll be if Alshon is high pointing TD’s on a regular basis against the Beloved with Erin on the other end. He would eat the Bears back 4’s lunch.

          • Big Mike

If you were a WR where would you want to play? Packers won’t give him the kind of contract he wants. It’s a reality that WRs appear to get overpaid each year. It’s also a reality that shitty teams have more cap space than good teams.

          • CanadaBear

Gotta agree. At some point Thompson will have to start chasing some FA’s. The natives are getting restless with each passing year of Erin’s career. Unless he starts parting with some cash, no FA’s will want to smell their dairy air (so to speak).

          • willbest

He isn’t going to GB. Cobb and Nelson are making $10 million each. Cobb is expendable but there is $6 million of dead money on him. And they need defensive help badly.

          • BerwynBomber

Nelson and Cobb are probably a little overrated because of Rodgers, but the story of the Cheese has been lack of D during Rodgers’ tenure. Hell, two years ago they won an WC game on the road and then damn near beat ARI @ ARI with Janis and some PS guys.

If Thompson is smart, he will invest almost their entire off-season capital on their D. Can’t see the Cheese being serious players for Alshon.

          • willbest

DJax and Garcon are FA’s so my money is on the redskins being interested in Jeffery. Titans is another landing spot. Both those teams aren’t shit (assuming Mariota can come back). Then you have the usual suspects Rams, 9ers, Browns where you go to cash a paycheck. Maybe the Chargers but they have other needs. Maybe Miami opposite Jarvis Landry. And Gase knows Jeffery.

          • Big Mike

They are not. But they are also not flush with cap space. My comment was that in general teams good teams have less cap space, since they are trying to keep their team together. Shitty teams can also be broke because they signed a bunch of guys that didn’t pan out. Wherever he goes, he’s going to be expensive, I suspect he’ll be very, very good there.

          • If reports are true that Alshon hates the cold and CHI, I can’t imagine him going to Wisc for less than market value.

          • Big Mike

Well that’s good. I can’t imagine the horror of Rodgers to Jeffery. Maybe he gets with Case in Miami. As long as he’s out of the division, he’s dead to me. Wish he was tougher and would gut it out in Chicago. Just another hole to fill.

    • Johnnywad

Cutler is talented. AJ is starting to feel like Cutty to me. He’s got the talent to be great. But he had 2 touchdowns this year and 4 the year prior. So how much can a reasonable GM really pay the guy? Tough call but my gut says let him go and hope you don’t regret it. He hasn’t earned his keep since Marshall left and AJ drew his coverage.

      • Huge Bears Penis

He was open for 5 more TDs last year but Hoyer did not look his way.

        • willbest

He also gets wide open and then is forced to come back to the ball because its underthrown a bunch too. He would have 8-9 more in his career QB’s would hit him in stride.

          • Huge Bears Penis

so let’s do AJ’s agents math for TDs
            2016
            2 TD Caught
5 TD missed but he was open but not seen by Hoyer
3 TD missed due to underthrown passes by various QBs
4 TD missed due to missed games. bad supplement anyone would have made that mistake.
4 TD missed because Barkley was QB.

AJ should have had 18 TDs in 2016.

Only one logical conclusion $18-20 mill a year contract is deserved.

        • Johnnywad

Can’t argue with you. But who’s throwing him the ball this year? If it’s Hoyer again, no sense in paying the guy $15M plus.

          • SC Dave

Yeah, but suppose we get *the guy* next season throwing passes. I sure wouldnt mind were AJ there to throw to.

        • Yeah, but it’s not as if Hoyer was not throwing for chunk yds.
He’s the one that made Meredith have back-to-back 100 yd games.

          MEREDITH.

If he can do that with him, he can work with anyone

Also remember that Hopkins prospered with Hoyer in Texas, so it’s not as if he shies away from stars.

          • Huge Bears Penis

no he just shies away from the left side of the field.

          • One play in which he executed the plan. This is already documented.

Maybe Loggains should’ve called the play to Alshon as opposed to being the 3rd read.

          • Huge Bears Penis

All games he played last year. He looks right, if not there it is a dump off. Rarely did any WR lined up left catch the ball unless it was a crossing route.

          • Hopkins had his best yr under Hoyer.
111 receptions for 1,500 yds and 11 TDs.

            http://www.espn.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/15795/deandre-hopkins

That’s a lot of “crossing routes”

And if you say it was just Hopkins, Hopkins with Oz didn’t even crack 80 catches or 1,000 yds last season.

            #facts

          • Huge Bears Penis

I am pulling an MB here and saying – His time with the Bears he only looked to 1/2 the field.

          • That makes his 300/2 games even more impressive.

When he looks at the other half now, 600/4.

            #logic

      • Big Mike

Yeah, we just don’t have any playmakers on offense. We wasted the 7th pick of the draft 2 years ago. Anything you get out of White now is a bonus. Eddie Royal will play 3 games before getting an old man injury, Marques Wilson is a C player. Cameron Meredith isn’t a headliner. Our best TE is slightly above average. We have a good running back and a good offensive line.

        • Royal’s getting cut, Mike.

          Almost certain. Frees up cap.

          • Big Mike

Yeah, he’s gone. $5million salary. No value there. No dead money if he gets cut. The problem is too much money chasing too little talent. Cap keeps going up, lesser talent getting bigger bucks.

      • SC Dave

I can understand that… not sure I agree, but I get it.

        • Johnnywad

I leave room for the fact that I’m completely wrong. It’ll be interesting to see.

    • Gotta see what Pace does first.
What if he picks up Bmarsh!?

Or more realistically, if he signs Pryor or Garcon, might not be that much of fall-off.

We all questioned the Slauson move, but he got Sitton (and I don’t think it was luck. GMs know the rumors going on, esp with our biggest rivals)

      • Big Mike

Bmarsh.. oh no.. .I don’t see it. Garcon’s getting old. BTW I’m all for trusting Pace. He’s done well. I said it earlier I hate feeling the Browns.

      • SC Dave

Certainly looks like Pryor would be good, but he’s probably as or more expensive… not that I care about the money.

Garcon probably has too many miles, and no doubt looked better by far with Brees throwing to him than anyone we’ll have in there.

      • Bears-4-Ever

        :nods: +1

  • Malice Halice

If we get rid of AJ. We might as well draft Fournette. No defense is going to calibrate the hole we’ll have on Offense. K.white Cam n Eddie trio is not gettin us 21+ pts. We will watch in horror as Howard sophomore year gets belittled cuz Defenses will stack the box on him because 1on1 coverage is all they need on our wideouts.

    • Zap Rowsdower (GP)

Kevin White is done. His bones are a splintered mess

      • Bender McLugh

        he better not be

        • CanadaBear

I hope GP is wrong but I’m afraid he’s right. The only other top 10 drafted WR’s that have missed as much time as White were two picks that became footnotes for not amounting to anything. Not good.

      • Paper mache

    • Bear46

More and more I think we need to draft the kid from LSU if comparisons to AP are accurate. Spend the second rd pick on an OT and get a OL and DL with two of three next picks. Deal with the secondary through FA. Stockpile the OL and split carries between Howard and Fournette. This will protect whoever will be the QB and keep the RB’s healthy. Draft a QB next year when the prospect list is more favorable. Build the lines and don’t pass up on a generational RB if Fournette is that player.

      • Huge Bears Penis

How many generational running backs are there? It seems every year there is at least one back deemed to be generational. Fournette this year, Elliot last year, Gurley the year before. The thing is they all get compared to an all time great RB so can you really rely on comparisons?

        • willbest

Lots have backs have the skill, not all of them have the decade of durability.

        • Bear46

Scouts are saying Fournette is better than Elliot, it is worth the risk if true.

          • Huge Bears Penis

sure and Trent Richardson was can’t miss coming out of college also. So why not waste a pick on another running back just because he is ‘generational’, it’s not like the team doesn’t have greater needs elsewhere.

          • willbest

I forgot about him. I can’t believe 4 draft picks including two first rounders were spent on that guy.

      • Two things.

-Hooker is seen as “generational” to many (comped to Ed Reed) AND fills a YUGE need.

        – Fournette might not even be the highest graded HB in this draft (Some argue Dalvin Cook or Mixon is superior – the latter we can draft in the 4rth)

        • SC Dave

          This. Mixon in, Langford out.

    • Happened to Gurley.

Just ask every sucker who drafted him in FF

  • BearDown100393

Apparently Pacebot does not compute Alshon’s Super Bowl guarantee.

  • willbest

McCaskey seem to have told pace he needs to spend the min. amount to avoid triggering the cash payout. Because what the fuck else are we spending our money on

  • leftcoastdave

I can only hope that this bodes well for what will be paid in FA. Certainties: S, CB, TE. Possibilities: DL, T, LB.
Maybe a bunker mentality. Create a killer D. Build the trenches. Get your WR talent in the draft with your new QB whom you are better able to protect and who needs to put up fewer points.

    • willbest

There are 20 teams with more than $30 million to spend, 10 with more than $50 million to spend, and there will be 5 teams with more than $70 million to spend (after the dead weight gets cut).

      • Bender McLugh

it’s gonna be fun to watch it all unfold

      • SC Dave

No wonder Alshon’s agent didn’t want to lock in long last year…

  • leftcoastdave

I like this: Jack Doyle, TE. TE’s are a QB’s best friend. 6’6 and connected to our new WR coach.

    http://sportsmockery.com/2017/02/chicago-bears-now-key-connection-ascending-free-agent/2/

  • CanadaBear

Pace loves his cash. Hopefully he has the ability to spend it wisely and build a decent team. So far, not so good.

    • leftcoastdave

Last year’s four were better than pretty good pick ups. This year is a great market in DB and TE. We’ll see what else develops.

Timing is everything. (Turn, turn, turn, it’s biblical.)

      • CanadaBear

Nothing against Pace but you are what your record says you are. So far, not so good. I’m afraid McPhee will never be more than just a guy that flashes every now and then. Same with Trevathan. Hope I’m wrong about both of them. Freeman looks good if he can learn to read the labels at GNC (or worse). Hicks was a home run. Sitton fell into his lap but he had enough sense to sign him. Still scratching my head over Slauson. Massie was a wash (terrible at the start of the year but was decent down the stretch). He really hasn’t done anything to improve the back 4 on D. Other than the QB position and possibly WR, that’s the biggest hole on the roster.

        • leftcoastdave

Agree with McPhee. Well hidden injury? Not so with Trevathan. He was quite good until that injury which could well carry over into this year. Slauson was a mistake (IMHO), but fixed when Sitton “fell into his lap.”
The DB’s going into the year showed promise from the prior year. They clearly underachieved. Porter had been looking good but now long in the tooth. Fuller? Another AJ? Amos was expected to improve, but . . . HJQ, the draft.
Now that’s the place money will be spent. Not a good year to be spending in FA on a WR.

          • CanadaBear

Trevathan’s injury is nasty. Hope he comes back. I agree DT was playing well when he went down.

          • MB30SD

            You know my take.

Pace has been aces man. You can’t fix everything at once and you can’t foresee injuries like McPhee and Tre. Gotta grade him on who the guys were when he made the deals for them and both were widely seen as revelations.

Your comment on free made me laugh. Let’s be honest, when he’s on the field he’s much better than just “good”.

I hope pace doesn’t get drowned by the siren song of”needing” a franchise QB this year, unless he blows us away with an amazing deal for #5 outta buff or Jimmy… But that’s a pipe dream because of lucifootball.

Anyway, this year’s offseason will tell ALL about pace in my mind… But he has the opty to be considered one of the best the way Fa and our draft position is shaping up. I’m keeping my fingers crossed my maings

          • CanadaBear

I agree with ya up to a point but I’m still not 100% on him. Totally agree we will know A LOT more about him after this year. Hopefully this will be W@B’s last year.

          • Just prepare yourself mentally for Trubisky.

Start watching some of his tape to lube up!

          • MB30SD

I will seriously be done if we take that dude and leave thomas, hooker, adams, the best CB in the draft, the best OT in the draft and the best IMLB in the draft on the board.

I will seriously be done with this browns north shitshow. Yes, I am dead serious. I mean, I only watched like 2 full games this season anyway. I just doooooonnnn’ttttt caaaaaaarrreeee because we’ve sucked so hard for so long.

          • If it’s Trubisky, and you trust Pace, gotta see what unfolds with him. But Trub must sit a year. He only has 1 yr starting, and NO under center experience.

If it’s any of the other ass-hats at QB, I guess my Sundays will be free again.

          • SC Dave

Shaw? What the hell… nothing to lose, all to gain.

          • SC Dave

I’ll never be done, I fear. But I get the sentiment.

          • SC Dave

I was never on the Trevathan bandwagon. But you know that… you and I were the early ravers r.e. Freeman.

          • Even if Tre is done (and I think he is for most of this yr), Pace did nearly everything to shore up that ILB with two good starters and a very interesting mid-rd prospect in Kwiatoski.

I mean, no way Pace knew one would suffer catostrophic inj, the get busted, and we’re left with Kwiat and the immortal Timu/Christian Jones.

However, ILBs can generally be signed for cheap in FA (that’s how we got two)., so I’m not too worried.

The thing is, I don’t think Pace will totally move on from Tre – we’re sorta in no-man’s land with him.

He could come back like Jimmy Graham. Or he could wash out like Cruz.

          • SC Dave

I like the Kwiatkoski pick too. So far anyway… year two usuallly tells you a lot.

Think he’ll earn the starting role?

          • SC Dave

Were Fuller to be “another AJ”, it would be a giant improvement.

        • Pace had to evaluate the back 4 going into the season.
Many had aspirations for Amos, but he proved he’s a JAG.
Fuller is still a 1st rounder worth evaluation, but Pace didn’t know he was a pussy.

Pace could’ve gone all-in on Josh Norman, but investing $14M/yr on a one yr guy who thrived in a diff system (not to mention some diva) might’ve been too much.

But we’ll see if he throws the bank at a top CB this yr, essentially throwing the towel on Fuller.

        • SC Dave

Freeman is better than ‘pretty good’ imo.

  • Not a surprise. It seems Alshon is prioritizing maximizing his payday over staying put.

Can’t blame anybody who makes that choice. Most guys in the NFL only get 1 shot at a big contract (if that).

    • CanadaBear

Hate to see him go but that’s why Pace is earning the big bucks. Hope he knows what he’s doing because the jury is still out.

      • the mistake was not talking extension 2 years ago. That’s when the Bears had leverage.

But Pace was new and didn’t want to give any extensions right away.

        • Exactly, Pace was trying to reconstruct the Trestman culutre and needed to find out who was toxic and who wasn’t.

Bmarsh, Bennett and a few others have since been dumped.

Alshon is more of an economics decision, but as with Cutler, always got the sense the Bears only started him cuz they had to, not because they wanted to.

          • SC Dave

Really? I’d start my best WR in a fucking heartbeat.

          • For some reason, POX never really gave glowing endorsement to Alshon (just like with Cutler, they always hedged their language).

We all figured it was a contract tactic, but maybe POX really didn’t like him, esp for $17M/yr.

          • CanadaBear

I think Pace is relishing starting with a clean slate, a ton of cash and picking high in the draft. Hope he’s up to it.

      • SC Dave

        He’s not gone yet.

        • CanadaBear

Hope you’re right but I kinda expected Pace to let him walk. Pace loves his cash and is in for a total rebuild. I’m guessing the Beloved will suck this year and Fox gets his ticket punched. Who knows? We both knew that JA and PE left the cupboards bare but this is hard to watch.

  • Sauron’s right eyeball

I just found a great player for Pace to start spending some of all that money on. Mangold anyone?

    http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/18765536/new-york-jets-releasing-veteran-center-nick-mangold

    • CanadaBear

An old banged up C. I think the Bears are good at that position.

      • Sauron’s right eyeball

        I resemble that remark.

  • Not a terrible FA list. Pick up 1 of the top 5-7 guys and 1 more of the next 5-7 and they’ll have depth/versatility in WR core that they lacked before, even if they downgrade the top option. And it will probably come for less $$ than Alshon/Royal cost last year.

        • willbest

MB’s philosphy appears to be that the only thing worth considering this season on offense is tackle. All other energies should be spent on defense.

        • MB30SD

          eventually, sure.

      • you want to put a young QB-whether that’s Jimmy G or a rookie draft pick-in a position to succeed.

Making him throw to Cam Meredith and a bunch of scrubs isn’t how you do that. But giving him 3-4 solid options, even with no studs, is.

        • leftcoastdave

I wish we were in the position to draft Christian McCaffery. He’d be on hell of a weapon out of the backfield both running and receiving and might make one hell of a slot receiver.
Then there’s punt and kickoff returns.
The rap is he might be too small, but he’s torn up the Pac 10, not to mention my Iowa Hawkeyes last year in a bowl game.

          • willbest

You don’t think he is going to fall to 36? I know a lot of mocks have the pats taking him.

          • One of Chicago’s 1st 2 picks is going to be spent on a QB (either in draft or trade).

The other one should damn well be a S given their needs and how the top of the draft shapes up.

          • leftcoastdave

(Big) IF we get the ammo out of a trade down scenario, we could get him on the way down or trading up from the 2. The biggest wildcard in the ammo dump is the Titans who might again be playing the same game with the 5. It would be great if Pace could seal a deal with Cleveland for a swap before the draft.

          • He’d be such a great complement to Howard.

          • There are guys in the later rounds like Maclamara (I think that’s his name) that can complement Howard.

I still say Mixon in the 4rth (or beyond depends how much he falls) and Adoree Jackson in the 2nd to be CB and return kicks.

        • MB30SD

I’m down with a smattering of decent guys.

          • willbest

I mean sure, it works for Tom Brady, right?

          • they’ve never really tried that approach. Lately it’s been studs + scrubs, before that it was 1 decent guy (Earl Bennett) and scrubs.

        • BerwynBomber

Agreed but I took MB’s “nails” to mean top of the league investment. There is a middle ground between that and bottom of the league. Meredith with a solid FA or two should keep us competent at WR.

          • That’s the goal. Competent for now, with the potential for better depending on the development of your 2 young WRs. Maintains flexibility going forward based on what happens with those 2 young guys.

Worst case is your WRs aren’t great but don’t suck. Best case is your young guys both turn out better than you expected and you’re loaded at the position.

    • wouldn’t mind grabbing c.patterson. would be nice having a good return game again.

      • My ideal would look something like Robert Woods + Brandon LaFell.

Spotrac puts Woods’ value at 4 years, $30M and LaFell’s 2 years, $18M.

Adjust for inflation and we’ll say 4/$35 and 2/$20.

That’s still less per year than Alshon + Royal were last year, and they can get out of them quickly if Meredith and/or White turn into studs.

But it also hedges their bets with Woods + LaFell + Meredith all being somewhat proven as at least WR2s and White still being an unknown.

Worst case is you have 3 #2s and White busts. Best case is White and Meredith blossom into stars this year and Woods/LaFell end up being afterthoughts.

        • willbest

And that works until we play a team with 2 high end DB’s and we have nobody to throw to.

          • That’s 3 very capable targets, + whatever White gives them. Plus you have to factor in TE and RB, which may or may not have quality targets, we’ll see.

Point is teams have found success with several good guys but no great one. That seems like best bet for me while you hope one of the homegrown guys develops into the great one.

          • SC Dave

            Such as?

Oh, you mean with Brady or Rodgers back there… okay.

          • Here’s my thing: an average WR core is not great, but it’s also not the end of the world. Especially when you’re focusing on the passing game being complementary.

Build a strong defense and power running game so you can have your QB playing complementary football. That’s the ideal setting for a young QB to arrive into for development. I still think a strong run game + defense and average skill position players is a better setting for a young QB than top-notch skill position players but a weak defense, because then you’re asking the QB and his offense to carry the team.

      • Patterson can’t run routes and has stone hands.

Think Hester but with suckier return skills.

        • MB30SD

          sweet!

        • but better return skills than Marc Mariani or Cre’Von LeBlanc?

          • Huge Bears Penis

You don’t need a return guy if you don’t let the other team score.

          • You can go out there and run with your baby and pipe and still return better than them, Evan

“White needs to stay on the field.” – Jeff

White needs to do a hell of a lot more than stay on the field. He needs to prove he is better than Bellamy

    • BearDown100393

White was a first round pick. Bellamy was an undrafted free agent. Isn’t it already over for White if that is the expectation?

      • willbest

        I just used Bellamy because

        White (2016) – 19 on 36 for 187 yards.
        Bellamy (2016) – 19 on 38 for 282 yards and a TD

    • Sauron’s right eyeball

Hahaha. It seems Jeff’s new boy wonder has surfaced. How many years will White have to stay off the field before Jeff stops making excuses for him?

      Bueller….

      • CanadaBear

If White misses most of this year due to an injury, there’s a good chance he won’t see a 4th year in Chicago.

        • willbest

Or anywhere else in the league.

        • White’s contract is fully guaranteed until it expires following the 2018 season. He will at the very least see a training camp in 2018. Most likely be on the roster no matter how badly this season goes.

          • CanadaBear

That would be the only reason they keep him if he has another injury-plagued year.

          • There’s no benefit to cutting him unless you want the roster spot for somebody else.

But if the 1st 4 games of last year show us anything, it’s that they’re committed to giving him every chance to succeed.

          • CanadaBear

Oh, I agree. I forgot his contract was guaranteed. People were getting excited when he had a few catches last year but none of them made me go WOW! His speed wasn’t on display, ever. That really worries me. Just don’t believe he will overcome his injuries.

          • AlbertInTucson

Averaged less than 10 yards a catch and looked labored when he “ran”.

          • I’m no doctor, or physics professor, but I assume a metal rod inserted in leg slows down a person, esp one known for his 4.3 speed.

It also might throw the person’s body off when it comes to body control, balance, twisting, jerking on routes. His last inj is a classic “compensation” one.

Sadly, he might never be that guy from college.

            Typical Bear luck.

          • MB30SD

I had the same thing. It significantly slowed me down and def bigly impacted my leaps.

          • CanadaBear

I hate to be a drag about White because he seems like a great young man but the odds are really stacked against him. Sometimes I think the Bears are cursed and then I remember that dumb asses typically have bad luck. Coincidence? I think not. Not saying Pace is a dumb ass, this truly seems like bad luck but you get my point.

          • MB30SD

I do. and we’ll see. maybe we’re cursed and we’re still paying off lucifer for the ’85 season?

          • CanadaBear

After all this payback they should have gone undefeated.

          • “I got a metal rod. In my pants” – every MB pick up line evah

          • MB30SD

pretty much. here’s the actual line…

“Hey bebe…. I’ve got a titanium rod down my pants… wanna create some sparks!”

      • Scharfinator

Someone has to take the reins since Jeff won’t have Cutler to rabidly defend anymore.

  • Zap Rowsdower (GP)

Releasing Alshon should say more than ever that Westworld intends to pick up Kizer or Watson at 3.

    • CanadaBear

      I don’t get the connection.

      • Sauron’s right eyeball

We don’t need no stinking wide receivers.

The only justification for letting Alshon go is if his negotiating
stance was tag me or let me go, I don’t want a long term deal with this
      shithole city.

The only thing it makes more likely is that he wastes our #3 or #36 pick on a WR. And I hope to hell we are talking about 0.1% in the first instances and 3% in the second.

        • this is a Pace decision, not from the McCaskeys. They aren’t involved in the football decisions unless it’s to yes/no controversial players for moral/ethical reasons.

Pace decided Alshon is not worth what he wants to get paid. End of story.

          • CanadaBear

Again, Pace sure loves his cash. Hope he spends it wisely.

          • willbest

My point was Teddy came into Pace’s office and said “Look son, I know the cap is $160 million but we are only required to spend $148 million under the CBA, so that is what you are going to do. Pace still gets to make the decision, but being short $12 million will alter the decisions he makes.

          • Zap Rowsdower (GP)

            Let’s wait and see.

I think it went more like

(A former co-worker was a season ticket holder so I used to purchase the few games I attended via his options.)

i get that. so don’t go to either. Problem solved!

          • CanadaBear

I’m so glad I went to a ton of games in the mid 70’s when the Cubs were really bad. The bleachers were $1.50, the El was $1 each way, peanuts 3 for $1 and my fave, a 20 OZ Old Stool for $1. It was difficult to spend $20 unless you were with a bunch of people. My brother-in-law and I always had fun. The flip side was Jerry Morales was probably their best player at the time. Who cared? People openly smoked weed in the bleachers back then. Comiskey was even a better bargain. Better team plus Harry and Jimmy. Being a Cubs fan, I only went to Sox games if the Cubs weren’t in town or the Sox had a special promo. The bleachers at Wrigley were mellow due to the ganja. I always felt like a fight could break out at any time at Comiskey if the crowd was really drunk. They were always rowdy no matter how sober or drunk.

my gramps took me to way more Sox games in the 70’s than Cubs, I loved that old Sox stadium & the brats cooked w/onions was always great too, and never any issue with fans that my young mind remembers. But as soon as I knew anything, I became a Cubbies fan. Nothing beats Wrigley baby.

          • CanadaBear

It was just a general level of drunkeness that was permitted and encouraged at Comiskey. I’ve seen more fights at Bears games than both Cubs/Sox combined and I’ve only been to about 15-20 Bears games back in the day (all at Soldier Field back in the same time frame).

          • SC Dave

Back when Veeck ran the team, you could bring your own. And if you got too hot, or too drunk, there was the shower down by the big green wall…

            Hahaha

    • willbest

Berry isn’t leaving KC, Chiefs intend to franchise him and let Poe walk.

      • MB30SD

        Thank you John Dorsey!

        John Dorsey everyone! haha

    • Huge Bears Penis

      Fuck Hoyer.

  • Zap Rowsdower (GP)

If Bears let Alshon go and decide their QB of future is in the draft, 2017 is going to be a miserable season. Telling you now. Miserable.

Well Bear Down, Jeff. You picked the wrong offseason to quit drinkin, pal.

    • CanadaBear

If this isn’t a total rebuild, I don’t know what is.

      • Bender McLugh

        shiny object over there! look!

      • willbest

        Who says we are rebuilding?

        • CanadaBear

          Nobody at Halas Hall.

        • Sauron’s right eyeball

Bad news is good for business? Remember now, “never let a crisis go to waste”. Hell, the trib may have to enlarge their sports debt. Yeah man, I’m starting to get the hang of this.

      • BerwynBomber

If they get rid of Cutler, yeah, pretty much. Or as close as you can in football. But to pick a nit, the continued presence of Fox keeps it from being “total”. At least 3rd year Fox.

        • CanadaBear

          Think he goes next year.

    • Jeff already said he’s checking out if Hoyer starts (spoiler alert, he’s starting).

      But the Hoyer Meredith show?

P.S. still preferable to fucking golf.

      • Sauron’s right eyeball

Can’t the Bears hold an open WR tryout day to the public? Step right up, hurra hurra hurra!

  • Alright, this is for Irish, or anyone else who wants Fournette at #3.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Leu4jnkWaQs

Plz tell me Fournette is THAT much better than Mixon. We can draft Mixon in the 4rth .

He’d be a better complement to Howard. Check out that catch at 2:15. Dude is running and catching GO routes in perfect stride.

    6’1 220 4.4 speed in the 4rth?

Jes plz. Thunder and Lightning baby

    • Sauron’s right eyeball

Some dude is throwing perfectly timed passes to him. That’s gonna be a problem.

    • Another guy I’ll throw in the ring that can be drafted later who would be a great complement to Howard and our return game.

      Kamara

      Compared to. Cordarell Patterson/Jamal Charles

    • Bender McLugh

please no RB with the #3

    • Irish Sweetness

I’d take both of ’em then.

  • A7Xthebest

Seriously though Jeff, you’re still a royal cuck.

    • Zap Rowsdower (GP)

      but is he a snowflake?

  • Sauron’s right eyeball

Ok, so Jeff believes Alshon + Cutler = winning season.

Does that mean we’ve had 4 winning seasons in a row and nobody told me?

  • willbest

This is for GP. I don’t know if you have heard about this big baddie yet. He makes the Koch brothers seem like school yard bullies.

  • BerwynBomber

    PIT tags Le’Veon.

  • Who was the last big player to bolt like Alshon?

I mean, arguably the most talented player on the Bears in his prime? (not old ass Peppers leaving)

    • MB30SD

      Chris Conte?

    • Zap Rowsdower (GP)

      Daniael Manning

      or maybe Brian Griese (jk)

      • MB30SD

        good one!

      • Was he at Alshon level?
hmmmm…When he hit the FA market I don’t think he was the top S available like Alshon is the best WR available.

        • Zap Rowsdower (GP)

Ex Bear leaving in his prime, is consensus #1 UFA at his position?

Hmmmm. All I got is the trade of Greg Olsen. Not the same.

          • I can’t think of any either.
I liked Graham, and he became pretty good on the Ravens, but he wasn’t paid like Alshon is about to.

          • Zap Rowsdower (GP)

Pace sent Forte packing and now Alshon. He has no sentimentality.

            Jeff must hate him.

          • MB30SD

if Jeff hates him, can you imagine what Dave’s house looks like?!?!?

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCOGH–E_80

          • willbest

Forte was a business decision. Better to move on from somebody a year early than a year late. Jeffery has more than a year left in the tank though.

          • Pace has released some pretty talented players, but the replacements have so far been up to the task.

            Forte – Howard
            Bennnett – Miller
            Slauson – Sitton

Howard, Miller and Sitton are core players going forward.

Pace doesn’t seem like he just releases guys with out contingency plans.

He traded Bmarsh, hoping to extend Alshon. Drafted White just in case that didn’t work out.

Unfortunately, Pace didn’t know White needed a metal rod, and that Alshon wanted Julio Jones $$$

            Damage control time.

          • BerwynBomber

            Miller’s a stretch.

          • Would you prefer Bennett over Miller?

Miller might be made of china, but Bennett wasn’t exactly a model of health, dogged it, and body slammed 1st round picks.

I think Miller produced just as much as Bennett per game this yr. (and Miler didn’t have Brady)

          • BerwynBomber

Bennett’s worst year might be Miller’s best as a pro. Unless Miller has had some alternative NFL career I’m not aware of.

The good news is Pace uncovered Brown late in the season. Brown seems like the antithesis of Kellen Davis: he catches everything.

          • If you look at the per game stats of Miller and Bennett this year, it’s rather close.

Miller…………..Bennett (without Gronk wk 11 on)

            rec….yds…td–rec..yds..td
            3……14…0—–1….14….1
            4…….33…0—–3…..22…2
            8……78….2.—-2……4…0
            3……31….1—–4…..70…1
            7…….73….0—-2……35…0
            6……..36…0—-2…..19…1
            2…….40….0—-3…..33…1
            7……..88…0—–3….14…0
            4……..32…0—–5….114…1
            3……61…..12—-2….10..0

            Miller down wk 11.

And that was WITH Brady/Jimmy G, while Miller had Cargo, Hoyer and I think even Barkley

Everyone was expecting Bennett to blow up after Gronk went down , but look at the stats. For the most part, Bennet was on par with Miller, and is now going to be asking for the moon.

          • Irish Sweetness

Best hands in the league. Officially.

          • BerwynBomber

Bennett is almost four years younger and has more than three times the career receptions Miller does.

I get not liking Uni’s attitude and/or being tired of him (just as some have had similar issues with Cutler), but between the lines there is really no comparison between Bennett and Miller. One can, at times, be a PB-level talent. The other is a journeyman.

          • willbest

Sitton fell into his lap, he replaced Slauson with Larsen. Props to him for jumping on that opportunity.

          • But he also drafted Whitehair.

I still think Pace kinda knew about Sitton.

Sitton signed rather quickly with the Bears. Shit like that usually doesn’t go down like that without some backdoor tampering before hand (which is happening all over the NFL as we type)

          • Bender McLugh

            Yuuuuup, absolutely

          • Huge Bears Penis

Whitehair was to replace Slauson, then Grasu got injured

          • Don’t forget Kevin White to replace Marshall. That one didn’t work out (at least not yet).

          • It’s in there, though I contend White was supposed to replace Alshon

          • SC Dave

Let’s see, you contend that Pace came in to change the culture, and that he actually intended to keep Marshall and replace AJ with White?

            Seriously?

          • No. Bmarsh was gone. He wasn’t even in the plans.
White IMO was made for today, so that he wouldn’t have to overpay Alshon.

But White has been hurt, so now Alshon has all the leverage on the Bears, and obviously Pace was never buying what Alshon’s agent was selling.

Allegedly, neither side is even talking to each other.

That tells you all you need to know about how Pace feels about Alshon.

          • CanadaBear

Not buying Miller is a replacement for Uni. Not doing much on sidelines.

          • I would prefer Miller and his 11 games (see comparison below/above) over Bennet and his half-assed, cold’hot, body-slamming, greedy-me moronic ass 10/10 times.

            But, that’s me.

Also, TEs are not easily replaced.

They’re infamously slow to progress from draft (unless you draft a HOFer like Gonzales) and not many blue-chips hit the market often

This year is a good year for them though, so there’s that.

          • SC Dave

Pace released Forte thinking Langford was the guy. Howard was just dumb luck for Pace, and a Good Thing for Bears fans everywhere.

          • But he also “lucked” into Whitehair, Sitton. Floyd, Freeman, Hicks…

Somewhere along the line gotta stop saying it’s luck and commend him on having long term plans.

          • leftcoastdave

Amazed at how Howard flew under the radar. At Indiana they ran up tempo run, run, run with him. He was an Ironman as a Junior. Also a great “big heart, living his late father’s dream” story. Could have been sitting on a shelf somewhere, but got the breaks to get the time to show his stuff and now, his daddy smiles down on him every day.

          • In a lot of ways, he mirrors Forte.

            Also big. Also a workhorse.

But ran like a 4.6 or something. That dropped Forte big time, luckily for us.

            Totally diff styles though.

Forte was a glider with great hands; Howard is a basher with suspect hands.

          • leftcoastdave

And the heart of a champion.

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

Well, he was worth at least a 2nd and we only got a 3rd. I can’t remember the Bears ever getting their monies worth on a player they shipped off. Am I wrong?

He played well in Houston for a year or 2.

            MOTHERFUC…….. never mind.

      • Daniael Manning was maybe the 6th-7th best player on their defense. Maybe.

That would be the equivalent of Charles Leno leaving after next year.

      Doug Flutie?

I don’t know about “top” but I liked Brendan Ayenbedajo before they let him go. He went on to make a nice career for himself.

Looks like that WP article I found yesterday was spot on in who is getting the tag.

  • Wentz 47.2 passer rating throwing +20 yds (only 2 QBs lower than that, didn’t say who though)
Dak 111 passer rating throwing + 20 yds

    • MB30SD

      Uh, Dak please?

    • willbest

Dak and Wilson are reasons why one should regularly buy QB lotto tickets.

    • BerwynBomber

Still like Wentz but we’ll see.

P.S. Dak was fantastic but he is also playing with 3 or 4 potential HoFers on DAL’s O.

  • Sauron’s right eyeball

I’ve always believed that WR is one of the easier positions to fill on a roster. In fact, Emery got the job done in one year. Cough.

Letting Jeffery walk isn’t even noteworthy imo.

    • MB30SD

jep… especially with the sweepstakes throwing to whatever we have out there.

    • took 2 years for Emery. Alshon kinda sucked as a rookie (granted, injuries played a role there).

2012 was BMarsh and a bunch of shit at WR. And he only got BMarsh by ignoring serious off-field problems, which blew up in his face after 2 good years.

      • Sauron’s right eyeball

I agree with the Alshon part. Fully.

  • BearDown100393

    Braverman, starting WR.

  • What can (Antonio) Brown do for you?

For $68M and $18M/yr, better do a fucking lot.

Alshon just got a woody (then said woody suffered sprain, and will be out for 3-4 weeks)

    • Huge Bears Penis

      think Goodell will reinstate him?

      • I think he will.
        It was just weed, right?

Gordon will make the NFL $, and that might be enough (esp since a lot of states have legalized the green)

    • Bender McLugh

      Gordon & Stills

  • Sactowns#1

I’m sure Marquis Wilson and Kevin White will save the day. lol

  • MB30SD

So here is my net-net on this.

    “DaBearsBlog Retweeted Adam Schefter
This is the $ Alshon wanted.

Antonio Brown deal: 4-year extension worth $68 million – 17M per year over 4 years, and $18.5M over 3 years. Tied to Steelers through 2021.”

Damn it! It won’t let me do career, but this is a fine representative pull I guess: http://www.nfl.com/stats/headtohead?player1=JEF498860&player2=BRO000001&player3=null&player4=null&position=widereceiver&playerOne=Alshon+Jeffery&playerTwo=Antonio+Brown&playerThree=&playerFour=

So, you still all want to keep that CUCK you call a #1? Fuck that sheite muslim. Save the cash and let’s get a real #1.

(oh, still not fucking convinced… fine, what’s your number then? and would alshon’s rep take that offer?)

    • willbest

It pretty much justifies paying Jeffery 16m a year

      • MB30SD

interesting, I don’t see that AT ALL, but hey, I’m sick of being Browns North (“BN”)

        • willbest

If 18.5 mil is the new 14 mil it stands to reason that 16 is the new 12

          • MB30SD

you have to compare the player not just the stat man. How many games did AB take over for them? (yeah, not that last one, but reg season)

            Also, there’s this: http://sports.cbsimg.net/images/blogs/antonio-brown-kicks-punter-1a.jpg

          • willbest

As I tell Irish, you can’t put 10 Sanu’s on the field. If a player beats his 1 on 1 2/3rds of the time he is creating a mismatch for you and that alone is worth a premium since there are only a handful that can do it.

          • MB30SD

alshon is not an AB level player. Period. If you just need to use the simple eye test, then do that man.

He’s not worth AB money because he’s not an AB (Dez, AJG, or even OBJ still) player. he just isn’t. If he won’t be reasonable with his asks, let him walk and change your plan to fill the void.

And according to you and HBP, what diff does it make since he’ll have the destroyer throwing to him.

          • willbest

16 mil is not AB money and because the way time works, available cash, cap room etc work its not AJ green money. But then I have been making that argument since 2014

          • MB30SD

as jeff said, he didn’t want 16M, he wants the same/similar deal that AB just got… and nothing less. Ok, so let some other team pay for that shit.

And even if we did pay him that, he’ll put in more effort for another team at this point.

          • leftcoastdave

As I said a few weeks ago, he could prove to be great. Just not likely as a Bear, given the tude he has shown.

          • MB30SD

            yup

          • SC Dave

So Jeff is part of the negotiations? In the world of fake news, why are you so willing to believe twitter shit?

          • MB30SD

            just fodder maings.

          • SC Dave

You’re so full of shit, MB. The money is not relevant. Okay, so AB is better than AJ.

WE’RE NOT FUCKING GETTING ANTONIO BROWN AT ANY PRICE.

So whether AJ makes more or less than him is 100% irrelevant.

          • willbest

I can understand his visceral response though. Nobody likes to grossly overpay for something. Not only are you not getting good value, it demonstrates how desperate you are, and has all that much bigger chance of not working out well.

          • MB30SD

so we should pay AB money for something MUCH less than… just because we’re a dogshit org?

Fuck that dave, THAT attitude is bullshit, and why you love guys like lovie. I’d rather be in constant rebuild mode than fluctuate between 7-9 and 9-7 man.

Whatever, it doesn’t matter. Until ted phillips is taken behind the barn of given 2 in the dome, we’re gonna be BN.

          • Just think about how you felt when Cutler was more paid than Vadgers, SC.

Lots of Bears fans feel the same way about Alshon – that he’s over rated and about to get over paid.

I just look at the market and our needs and am a bit more pragamatic about it, but I don’t know the guy.

For all I know, he only cares about $ and doesn’t want to put in the extra work. Dunno.

Gotta trust those close to Alshon to make that call.

But so far look at who Pace has let go. None of them are really head scratchers except for maybe Slauson

      • Is Alshon’s production like 80% of AP?

So 20% paycut of AP’s contract?

        • willbest

It doesn’t work like that when you only get to put 11 people on the field at a time

    • That doesn’t count Antonio on returns either

        • Irish Sweetness

          Done. See, that was easy!

    • SC Dave

Remember, Trestman had a better record than Fox. And Emery better than Pace.

      • MB30SD

but not 22 player on IR.

      • I’m no fan of Albino Lovie, but in his defense, Emery and Trestman went all-in in FA.

They def were in win now mode, and picked up some serious players lik Bmarsh and Bennett.

Pace has been rather modest in FA selecting those 2nd tier FAs.

Maybe that changes this year cuz we got cap room, but Pace was under no illusion that they were SB bound past 2 years.

  • Sauron’s right eyeball

So far it’s lookin like the older jaded Bears fans couldn’t give a sheite about Alshon but the young cucks want to give him a handjob.

Yup, it only takes 1 generation to fack up the world. Aha…sure does.

    • SC is older

      • Sauron’s right eyeball

Yeah well he’s the exception to the rule.

      • CanadaBear

I hate to see him go but I get the argument to let him walk. Total rebuild.

        • Sauron’s right eyeball

At the end of the day, other than Pace, who the heck really knows what’s up with this team? Really thought we were going to be better last year but oh well.

        • Pace is dumping ANYONE that is even remotely not all-in.

Alshon was dogged with “lazy” since college. That’s why he fell to the 2nd to start. I don’t know if the rumors are true, but “soft” and “lazy” have plagued him throughout his career, and now he’s likely gone.

          Bmarsh questionable character. Gone.
          Bennett. Gone.
          Cutler. Gone.

The three good players who were great character Pace moved from were Peanut, Forte and Slauson.

Peanut was inj prone by then and not a system fit.
Forte was hitting that dreaded 30 HB
Slauson, still don’t know, but no doubt he was banking on Grasu, Whitehair and signed Sitton.

But more importantly, the TONE when he talked about Peanut, Forte and Slauson were different than when Pace talked about Cutler, Bmarsh, Bennett, and now Alshon.

Pace said day 1 that he’s trying to reset the Trestman culture, and that’s exactly what he’s doing, for better or worse.

          • MB30SD

anything is fucking better than trestman culture maings. Anyfuckingthing.

Trestman’s record was better than Fox’. So there’s that.

          • willbest

Fox needs 4 more wins to tie cryptkeeper, and right now I am not convinced he is going to do it in 2017 without an impressive FA by Pace.

          • Irish Sweetness

Bmarsh had questionable character? He was the only one who had ANY. Seemed like he was the only one who was pissed about losing to me.

  • leftcoastdave

Been a fun day watching the reactions. I thought he should be dumped for ‘tude. But also the simple projection of his value to the team vs what that money can buy with new faces who want to compete. I became resigned to his being tagged and would have been ok with that, but apparently Pace was given reason to believe that money will not be rewarded with effort, something likely given AJ’s history. So why not send a message to Kyle Fuller and move on.
Lots of good WR’s coming out of college this year and some potential upside coming out of Bellamy and Braverman.

    • Johnnywad

      Hahahaha. Yeah. Braverman. Mm hm.

that’s chinese… they hate each other.

mostly because of this whole thing: https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=why+chinese+hate+japanese+so+much&*

        • Koreans, Chinese and Japanese all hate each other. Triangle of hate.

My cousin married a Camobdian-Chinese. Very nice guy. Loves fishing. (also, apparently everyone looks down on Cambodians. Maybe Irish can enlighten us on that).

Anyhow, he was looking into buying a business.

Met with an owner. They talked over the phone. Then met in person.

          Korean Owner, “You Chinese?”
          Chinese, “Yes.”
“Oh, I can’t sell to you.”

I was expecting the story to turn into a Jet Li scene at that junction, but he said he just walked out.

          • willbest

North East Asians look down on South East Asians generally. I don’t think there is any special animosity for the Cambodians that also isn’t felt about Vietnamese, Thai, and Filipinos

          • Yeah, that’s what I’ve been told too by my Asian friends.

But it’s not just Cambodians, VietCong, or Thai

I knew Koreans who hated other Koreans from certain regions.

And Taiwanese and Hong Kong students never identitefied themselves as Chinese.

Taiwanese specfically would correct, “Not chinese. Taiwanese”

          • willbest

It seems to die quick in the US. I went to high school with a bunch of Asians and they didn’t care who was what. At least half of them married outside of their ethnic group. I did meet an Indian guy whose parents would only allow him to date one specific Indian woman in our high school because she was the only other caste acceptable. He didn’t date, but I don’t think it was his parents stopping him.

          • Think it depends on how strict or “asian” parents are.

            Some embrace the multculturalism.

Others pretty much bring all the old biases and prejudices over and try to indoctrinate their children in the old country ways.

I hung out with Flips, Burmese, Vietnamese, etc and they were all cool with each other (since they grew up here).

But like transfer students from college almost all hung out exclusively with their own.

          • willbest

Yeah the parents were hit or miss in that sense. A Japanese friend of mine was dating this Korean, and asked me to pick her up for Homecoming for him. And I was like “dude, I am white, how is that going to go?” And he said “He doesn’t care about that.” Turns out grandma’s sister was used for comfort.

Jay Cutler is the last Angelo player left on the roster (presently)

Here is the list of Emery players that played in 2016

Likely to be a 2017 Bear

    Kyle Long
    Willie Young
    Charles Leno
    Josh Bellamy
    Kyle Fuller
Pat O’Donnell (I hope not, but I don’t see them moving away from him)
    Zach Miller

Unlikely to be a 2017 Bear

    Alshon Jeffery
    Marquess Wilson
    Kadeem Carey
    David Fales
    Ego Feurgson
    Will Sutton
    Cornelius Washington
    Demontre Hurst
    Sherick McMannis

    • McMannis is a stud special teamer though. We could do worse for gunner.
CornWash I still have this irrational boner for.
Didn’t Sutton do OK? Figure Ego is a big body to back up Goldman, but neither of them are really scheme fits.

Def can upgrade on many of them.

      • willbest

aye, I was just making some judgement calls. I was more or less trying to point out the gravity of the roster turnover in 3 off-seasons.

I wouldn’t be surprised if any of the “unlikelies” made the roster, they are just all JAGs (except Jeffery) which leads them fighting with draft picks and UDFA’s for roster spots.

I happen to like Carey better than Langford, but that isn’t happening. Langford is Pace’s guy, and I figure they will bring an RB into camp they want to develop.

        • SC Dave

I think Carey is better too, but you’re right on Pace wanting his guys,

    • Irish Sweetness

Only name on that list I’d be any way sorry to see go is McManis. If AJ is gone, Wilson might be worth a shot, but if we’re signing a receiver or two who has not previously been a Bear, then we can afford to cut bait on dead weight.

      • As crazy as Barb was, he kinda defended Emery, and I don’t think he was an abysmal failure.

Long. Home run (even though I and many others hated that pick initially
Young – Solid McPhee type. D just changed on him
Leno – reason why we’re not seriously considering an LT at #3. That’s no small feat (Webb?)
Fuller – bust. Can’t know rods. Can’t know heart.
O’dOnnnel – meh. 7th rd P? Trestway is better, but not catostrophic
Miller – again, good TE for minimal risk.

        I don’t consider Alshon a failure. He produced for a 2nd.
The rest weren’t all that impressive, but again, how much did that have to do with shifting from a cover-2 to a 3-4?

The unforgivable sin Emery committed was hiring Trestman. Boy oh boy I bet he regrets choosing that schmuk over Arians.

        • willbest

Bruce Arians and Chandler Jones and Emery would be drawing up a 4 year extension right now.

Fear and hate MB. The sole purpose of today’s rulers is to keep people boxed up in fear and hate. Believe it or not but the human condition has been studied, manipulated and controlled for thousands of years in order to cause people to hand over their personal sovereignty to a governing body for this sole purpose. That’s what should really scare the crap out of us all because the day will come when they will openly seek to harm the very people they now claim to protect. Up until now, they have been doing it on the sly. We are all pretty much debt slaves who really have no say in our freedom and we have become part of a construct designed from birth to render us powerless. These same people used to primarily use religion, now they use bullshit science to accomplish the very same thing. What always bothers me about articles like this is the fact that there is absolutely no way to detect all of their bullshit and what their real motivation is when issue’s like this are brought up. Experience has taught me that there is always a hidden agenda. I always have the feeling that we are being diddled and that we are being conned into cutting our own throats through mis-information.

Eat, drink and be merry while you can and always remember the golden rule.

      • SC Dave

        I agree with this.

In the end, all you can really try to control is your happiness.

On the bright side, people are actually as or more safe than ever before from the threat of arbitrary violence. How well this holds up through the current war cycle remai s to be seen.

        • Sauron’s right eyeball

I would only add “some” people are actually more safe than ever before.
