  • Don’t Caaaaaaare!

Listening to white fat middle-aged men on the radio talk about sports is infuriating

    • SC Dave

      Why? You’re there soon enough.

      • Don’t Caaaaaaare!

Haha that is true. I just hate hearing guys that have never played the game talking about how the game should be played and how players should be fined and what players intent was. It’s embarrassing.
New rule if you can’t have sex standing up for more than a couple minutes you don’t get to talk about sports that require incredible effort and skill and physicality.

        • CanadaBear

Is the 2-minute limitation due to exertion or ejaculation?

          • Don’t Caaaaaaare!

            Only exertion!

          • CanadaBear

Don’t need any minute men walking the line!

        • SC Dave

Damn good rule. Especially since I can still talk about sports then.

        • This is perhaps the most annoying part of it.

I know, “pure” writers have their place. And then you have the other extreme of dumb jocks with insight.

But I can tell by writing style/content/diction, etc which “experts” actually played and which didn’t.

I never scored 4 TDs in one game a la Bundy, but I played a bit.

I remember my very first catch. I was so juiced on adrenaline, it took 3 guys to get me down.

          First guy. Then second guy.

Then, suddenly, by back felt like it got hit by a bat.

          You know what I learned?

Go down if you’re wrapped up cuz nothing good happens after about 3-5 seconds.

SOME are out to hurt, no doubt. The Swole, Burfict type.

But most are just aggressive explosive beasts trying to make plays at 100mphs.

  • BuddhaJoe

There’s no way they can herd the Giraffe back out there after yesterday. Dude made the Sex Cannon look like a Pro Bowler. The team would quit.

  • ButtonShoes

Just announce that Trubisky is the starter right now, Bears. RIGHT FUCKING NOW.

  • BerwynBomber

Name Trubisky as the starter but also elevate Sanchize to #2.

Glennon has no business being a back-up. He is not a guy who should be in the NFL. Or at least on the Bears. He offers nothing.

    • CanadaBear

I read numerous times in the off season that he was the best backup QB in the NFL. I didn’t question it at the time but now I’m finding that really hard to believe.

      • ButtonShoes

If Mike Glennon was the best backup QB in the NFL, then every backup QB in the NFL is hot garbage.

      • BerwynBomber

I admittedly got sucked into his numbers. Efficiency-wise, he was in the Cutler/Hoyer range. And his W/L could be excused because he was a) a rookie (or had been during the majority of his starts), and b) he played for some bad Tampa teams.

But I never really watched him play, and when I finally did (Bears preseason) it was alarming.

P.S. I’m pretty big on QBR and PR, but in some instances they can deceive. Obviously Glennon’s TB #s did.

Weirdly, Hoyer’s didn’t. He and Jay were polar opposite QBs but in the end they probably got a team to about the same place.

        • CanadaBear

Besides all of the other stuff about MG’s play it seems like he has absolutely no feel for the position. Can’t feel pressure, can’t feel WR’s breaking open, can’t feel responsible for TO’s that are clearly his fault (when the snap hit him in the shin when he clearly started the sequence to snap). Ugh.

          • BerwynBomber

Yes, and one of the reasons I’d keep Sanchize over Glennon.

Sanchize can be a TO machine too, but he can (on occasion) make plays, has a little mobility, a ton more big game experience, and is reportedly a good mentor. And on occasion he has played the position as a starter in such a way that Glennon can apparently only dream about.

So I just don’t see what purpose Glennon serves. That is why I said he has nothing to offer/is of no value.

Unfortunately, I’d be willing to bet Glennon remains in the top two on the depth chart and will be our back-up next year as well.

          • CanadaBear

I agree about Sanchez but they won’t keep Glennon next year. He’s guaranteed $2.5 mil but if he is on the roster he’s in the $16 mil range.

          • BerwynBomber

Really? I didn’t know about that roster bonus or kick-in. Good news in an odd way.

Otherwise, I could see the Bears keeping him around for fear of admitting their mistake.

          • CanadaBear

Pretty sure it was a 3-year $45 mil contract with $16 guaranteed this season and $2.5 guaranteed next season.

          • AlbertInTucson

            Yeah, but other than THAT…

          • CanadaBear

Ya try not to pile on but he was just so dreadful.

          • AlbertInTucson

            He wasn’t “dreadful”.

            O.J. didn’t do it.

I’ll respect you in the morning.

            (He said, sarcastically).

        • Irish Sweetness

The 5-13 as a starter thing was never getting evened up.

          6-15 and counting …

    • ButtonShoes

Just cut Glennon. He’s a sunk cost as is. Just get rid of him.

      • BerwynBomber

I’d be fine with that. I honestly see no value in him.

  • SC Dave

You know what is almost as infuriating as Mike Glennon’s play?

    Larry Mayer’s explanation of it.

    • CanadaBear

      No you didn’t!

  • SC Dave

Good god Roger Goddell is a cocksucker.

“The NFL fined rookie running back Tarik Cohen $6,076 for throwing the
ball into the stands after he thought he scored the game-winning
overtime touchdown against the Steelers last Sunday.”

    • CanadaBear

Can only imagine what it’s going to cost DT. Hope it’s only a fine.

      • SC Dave

Fining Cohen is far worse. What is that all about? Liability?!?!?

The bitches are too cheap to lets the fans have a fucking football?

        • Scharfinator

          IRON FIST

        • CanadaBear

I think it has to do with liability in case someone gets hurt in a scrum for the ball. Who knows? It’s BS.

          • AlbertInTucson

I think if he HAD scored the TD, it would be OK.

          • CanadaBear

Now I’m confused! That blade or two of grass on the sideline that he may or may not have touched was expensive.

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

nope – does not matter. It was the fact that he threw the ball into the stand. CBear is correct on it being a liability issue if there is a scrum for getting the football. If he had just handed the ball to a fan then there would be no fine.

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

it has always been a fine to throw a football into the stands.

          • SC Dave

Doesn’t that seem like a lot of money to charge a rookie excited about his first big play in the league?

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

I thought that there was a percentage system that used. Basically a fine could not be greater than a certain percentage of a contract. So that guys on small/rookie contracts did not seem to be overly punished for a infraction. But I could not find any documentation on that.

        • Irish Sweetness

He had zero runs against the Packers – is that correct?

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Fines are usually pretty standard. if he gets suspended that’s when he will lose the real money. Link is to a list of fines.

        http://operations.nfl.com/football-ops/fines-appeals/

        • SC Dave

Yeah, there it is. And it’s standard, so there you go.

When you read that line up of WR’s from 2011 you just cringe. But if you look at this year’s line up, it’s much worse. FUCK!

    • Shaheen had less than 10 snaps last night, which is inexcusable given the fact that they ran about 30 snaps after the game was over at 28-7.

      • CanadaBear

I thought Foxy was gonna stroke out during the game. That’s the most pissed off I’ve seen him as a Bear. It was good to see some fire but almost every decision was either way late or just plain wrong. The coaching staff had a horrible game right along with the players.

        • Canada, you, MB and I are likely the 3 least surprised Fox went full Bernie on primetime.

Maybe GP too since he posted that article on why Elway give him das boot.

First words out of Fox’ mouth in the presser was how they were out-coached.

    • Sahr Gborie

I know the WR group is bad. We could do a lot better than what we have on the field right now. However bad they may be, Glennon makes them much worse.

As far as Shaheen goes look at what Wood’s said

      • Irish Sweetness

When Mitch was in earlier, he didn’t have White and Meredith then either, right?

        • SC Dave

He played against guys not in the NFL Irish. Please finally understand that.

Yes, Mitch *was* uncannily accurate. But these clowns will NOT be open like they were against nobodies. Except Bellamy, who is always open but cannot catch.

          • Don’t Caaaaaaare!

Bellamy might be the best athlete on the Bears. He is virtually unstoppable and the only one that can stop him is him….which he does 40% of the time.

        • Malice Halice

  • Don’t Caaaaaaare!

I just watched the Trevathan hit again. As Adams is trying to drive forward there ends up being only 2 open places to hit him, his head and his planted left knee. If he went low he would have ended Adams’ season and possibly career. I wish he had gone low because you’d hear the same bitching and complaining and talk of fines as his leg became unglued. Fucking white motherfuckers.

    • CanadaBear

I’m with Wil and Butch about OLmen moving the pile and the refs always giving them forward movement. That’s why I was so thrilled to see DT laser in there and that shit stopped dead. Wish he didn’t KO Adams. Oh well.

What a dismal page. POD and Cohen the only bright spots.

Four games played, and ZERO interceptions. So much for play makers on defense.

    • Bender McLugh

True, but still better than last year’s secondary when they are on the same page.

      • SC Dave

I’m sure the PD numbers are up, but we’re desperately in need of some takeaways.

  • KentuckyBearsFan

I love that Chevy Chase line.

  • Malice Halice

Another crappy thing about the MG show along with being the worse starter in the league is that he’s RUINING any chance of us shopping him at the end of year. That guy is SOOO toxic (n goofy lookin) NOBODY will want him takin snaps under center. Therefore we kicked out 16-18mil n we ain’t finna get shit for it. He’s also making it HARDER for Mitchell because Glennon’s play alone this year just put the HC,OC, n GM carousel back in action. Thinkin bout it now, I rather Mitchell sit this year out instead of having to b force-fed a playbook he’s not gonna use next year, play with the SHITTIEST bears roster I ever witnessed (only 26) , then have to line up against the Queens n Ravens, fuck no! unless we tell him “go have fun, don’t worry about shit jus go play football ” the queens will crucify our poor youngin

    • KentuckyBearsFan

Like I said before, just cut him.

    • CanadaBear

MG’s contracted salary for next year is around $15 mil with $2.5 mil guaranteed. Nobody will take that contract off the Bears hands. He will get cut in the off season and the Bears will give him $2.5 mil to go away.

      • Malice Halice

Damn so that’s 20Mil to waste what, 6 months of our fuckin time! Wow!

        • CanadaBear

          $18.5. $16 this year + $2.5 next year (and that’s if he’s cut).

    • Sahr Gborie

To hell with trading him…just leave him on the road side and act like you never knew him

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

“Mitchell sit this year out instead of having to b force-fed a playbook he’s not gonna use next year,”

You mean the the same playbook he has been studying since he was drafted? He should not be pretty familiar with the playbook by now.

  • willbest

“Got a pretty good column written. But don’t want to publish it and jinx things.” – Jeff

I am torn on how I want Trubisky to start in his opener. For the Bears, Franchise, and Trubisky himself a Big Ben performance where he never looks back would be a huge win. But down here on the lowly blog I don’t know how much knob slobbing I can take week in and week out.

    • Sahr Gborie

He can’t do worse than Glennon. But that’s not saying much.

MT will be better than expected. He will make a few mistakes but nothing mind boggling.

Once MT starts there will be no turning back

    • beninnorcal

I wouldn’t worry about all that. I’m thinking he will play soon and I worry he may struggle a lot. Hopefully he shows us some good stuff too, but I think he’ll have many rookie moments once he plays. I hope I’m wrong.
Still way more interesting than Glennon under center though.

    • CanadaBear

After all the years of Cutler love (by Jeff and Andrew) you should be able to deflect that pretty easily. Lots of practice, practice, practice.

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis
        • CanadaBear

          The same but different!

      • BerwynBomber

willbest was a bit of a Cutler fan himself so might be a bit new for him.

But yeah, know exactly what you mean. I even began to tire of the Peanut love and for the most part Peanut deserved it.

        • CanadaBear

Wil certainly wasn’t as bad as Jeff and Andrew (and Johnny Waffle, of course). I loved Peanut so I never got tired of people over praising him. I much prefer that to the opposite, when fans decide they hate their heros. By the time Briggs retired and Devin moved on most on here had turned on both of them. To a certain degree it was the same for #54. I’ll never get that. Sure they said stuff people didn’t like but they brought it on Sunday. I’m pretty sure if the Chicago media fucked with you relentlessly for close to a decade, they’d get a quote out of you that people wouldn’t like. I know they would with me.

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

it’s a coping mechanism. I don’t blame the hate on Briggs. He was never the huge fan favorite that Devin or Lach was. Briggs seemed to always want a new contract, and IMO never did anything to really endear him to fans, especially after Lach left. Devin, although loved by fans for years, basically admitted he was mailing it in for the last couple years with us. It’s just the ex-girlfriend scenario.

          • CanadaBear

My issue with Devin hate is everyone says he mailed it in. Look at his stats, he had a few return TD’s in there and a great avg. All he really said is he lost some of the love of the game when they basically told him he sucks at WR (which he did). That’s not the same as mailing it in. As far as Briggs goes, he was always looking for more money but until that last year, his stats were very good. Nobody jacked up more WR’s, TE’s and RB’s during Briggs’ run with the Bears, including #54.

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Just using the eye test, Devin seemed to lose something in the return game after he was moved to WR, call it what you want, mailing it in, loss of heart, old age…. Briggs was in a Batman/Robin situation. When Batman is doing his thing and is great, no one really wants to hear complaints from Robin. Just do your job. So when you hear Briggs complain about anything it just did not set well with a lot of fans. I liked them both, but it was also time to move on from both.

          • CanadaBear

Everyone turned on Devin when he made the comment. By then he was pretty much done with WR. His stats once he was mostly a returner were great. No doubt trying to be a WR and a returner was too much for him. Briggs looking for money never bothered me. At least he was honest about it! No doubt it was time to move on from all 3 of them when they did. Lach and Briggs’ last year with the Beloved were pretty sad.

          • BerwynBomber

            Agreed.
Jeff and Andrew were Waffle-like when it came to their Cutty love.

          • CanadaBear

#54 said some really stupid stuff over the years but most of it was because he wasn’t exactly a Rhodes scholar. When he was being a petulant baby to the press there for a couple of months it was ridiculous. At some point, either mgmt, his agent or a friend finally got through to him that grunts and 1-word answers was only making him look foolish. After that, his only real gaffe was him getting pissed at the fans when he thought they were booing the team (they were booing the offensive ineptitude going into the half).

Everything I’ve ever read about him said he was the ideal teammate and team leader. That goes a long way with me. Esp being so welcoming to rookies and everyone not named Jay Cutler. The more that comes out about Lach from his teammates, the more I respect him.

          • SC Dave

Urlacher was pretty much entirely responsible for the reputations of all his defensive coaches.

None of that shit would have worked without him.

      Or…

“Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than speak and remove all doubt.”
      -A. Lincoln.

      • EnderWiggin

Do you mean Mark Twain? Google time!

        • I thought it was Rufus from Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure

          • EnderWiggin

We could use a big does of the George Carlin in this day and age.

          • willbest

He got too jaded in the aughts. It wasn’t so much comedy as a cranky old man ranting. I did catch him live in the mid 90s though and I am glad I did.

          • AlbertInTucson

            Yes.

Saw him in Vegas in about 2003 and he was not very funny.

            Was actually working with notes.

You don’t break in material in Vegas at $50 a pop, George.

Big fan of CLASS CLOWN and AM & FM album material.

        • AlbertInTucson

Pretty sure Lincoln gets credit for this one.

          Twain is

“Rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated ”

          as well as

“I didn’t attend the funeral, but I sent a note approving of it.”

          • AlbertInTucson

            More Twain…

“There are lies, DAMN lies and statistics.”

Must have been a football fan.

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

from reading Jeffs twit feed, it sounds like a lot of people are reporting MT is going to be starting. I got to hand it to Jeff for holding his enthusiasm by wanting to hear it from a more verified/trusted source.

  • willbest

Not that I am the biggest baseball guy, but it seems we have a guy headed for 60 Home Runs while not in the steroid era.

Giancarlo Stanton has 2 games left to hit 1 more home run.

    • CanadaBear

He’s pretty jacked. I’m guessing there’s a little better living through chemistry going on there. Who knows? He’s a big fucker! Seems like a decent guy. Wouldn’t mind seeing him hit a couple this weekend.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

that rookie Judge on the Yankees has over 50. So I am going to guess that more guys will start getting closer 60 going forward. Nature of the game it seems like today. HR or bust. There are fewer and fewer pure hitters, and by pure hitters I mean guys just looking for liners in the gap and hitting for average.

  • AlbertInTucson

Trevathan suspened for 2 games, per ESPN.

    • AlbertInTucson

Think he can appeal it down to one as a non- repeat offender?

      • SC Dave

Hr said he was going to appeal regardless. And he should.

    • willbest

Ridiculous considering the ref didn’t even think it was a foul to begin with.

    • EnderWiggin

This makes me sad. Adams was a runner(as Butch pointed out). Danny has one job to do – push back the pile.
Like, I am literally sad for DT, everyone thinks he’s a head-hunter now.

      • AlbertInTucson

Meanwhile, Richard Sherman clearly lined up Marcus Mariotta from ten yards away and tried to blow him up on the sideline, WAS flagged, and skates off free as a bird.

      • Don’t Caaaaaaare!

He was a runner. They made up a penalty that does not exist.

    • BerwynBomber

      Sounds fair to me.

      • willbest

Other than the arbitrariness on who gets suspensions based on extent of injury and media reaction rather than uniform set that is always enforced irrespective of who the players involved are. see. Al’s Sherman comment.

        • BerwynBomber

Two wrongs don’t make a right. I said last week that Sherman should have immediately been tossed from the SEA/TEN game.

      • AlbertInTucson

Not for a guy with no history and not in light of Richard Sherman’s move.

    • BearDown100393

      Not shocking

  • Scharfinator

    http://dailysnark.com/breaking-bears-bench-mike-glennon-will-start-mitch-trubiksy/

So uhh….. seems not so official? It’s Olin Kreutz but how official is that?

    • willbest

Kind of stupid if you ask me. No point in letting Minny know to prep for Trubisky until the Chicago beat reporters note that he is taking first team reps when they resume practice next week.

      • Scharfinator

How do you prep for MT vs MG? One is trash, one is an unknown? I guess one is a little more mobile?

        • willbest

Well with Glennon you ignore everything down field and just live in your goal line formation all week. With Trubisky you don’t have any knowledge so you are sort of doing a generic practice.

          • Scharfinator

            Lol fair enough!

    • BearDown100393

At least Olin isn’t doubling down on Giraffe.

    • AlbertInTucson

      Daily Snark?

      SMH.

      • BearDown100393

That doesn’t really matter. The source is Olin.

        • AlbertInTucson

Conjecture already put for on the blog for weeks.

  • BearDown100393

Fox does not commit to Giraffe
Fox does not commit to Trubisky

  • BearDown100393

I will tell you this: Tru is ready. And if he doesn’t play Monday night it’s because the Bears are ineptly run.

The last point does not change even should Trubisky start.

    • AlbertInTucson

And you know he’s ready because you’ve seen him practice lately or by the way he’s held the clipboard on the sidelines?

We all HOPE Tru is ready.

I certainly believe he can’t be any LESS ready than Glennon has looked.

Receiver drops or not, the turnovers are unacceptable.

      • BearDown100393

An unprepared Mitch Trubisky has to be better than a prepared Giraffe.

        • AlbertInTucson

I believe my comment covered that.

  • Nancy Glennon

Mikey hasn’t left his room since he got home from Thursday night game. I am really starting to worry. Mr. Fox called him earlier today to see how he was doing. I don’t know what they talked about but Mikey was even more upset after that call. I think they are about to bench Mikey. My other son Sean stopped by to try and cheer him up, and told him whatever happened Mikey could work for him at his bank. It’s very tense here. I will keep praying. Thank you to the fans left supporting Mikey.

    • EnderWiggin

      fan(s).

      • Nancy Glennon

That’s mean. Mikey sticks his neck for this team week in and week out, no one seems to appreciate it.

        • King of DBB

          Can Mr. Glennon still standfuck?

The blog has generally found that men tune other men out once they can no longer standfuck.

It may explain why Mikey isn’t listening to his dad right now.

          • Nancy Glennon

Unfortunately he got an erectile dysfunction several years after Mikey was born. Now he just putters around the house mumbling about some huge disappointment. He mumbles more when Mikey is around. I am not sure what that is about. I digress, I should not really be telling you guys about this.

  • Malice Halice

Pretty sure I’m late. But Butterfinger can go bankrupt as far as I care n I can’t wait to see Dan lions get their 2nd loss tomorrow. This team sucks so bad we gettin roasted by a candy bar. Smh

  • King of DBB
    • Don’t Caaaaaaare!

i wish Danny would have gone low. It would be entertaining to see someone explain how separating a guys leg from his knee and ensuring he never played the game again was a better alternative.
      1. Don’t go over the middle.
      2. Whistle the play dead if you’re so concerned.

      • I wonder which Cam wouldve preferred.

His knee at a right angle the wrong way
Or a whack to the head.

        I’m guessing the latter.

  • King of DBB

This has to be part of George’s decision, cause let’s face it, at this stage there may be a phone call. Otherwise it’s Pacebot.

George and the family gets a share of the tv pool of money, which is the pigs trough that they truly feed on. That pool is so big it dwarfs all other considerations about skyboxes, taxes, city fees and season ticket pricing. They could sell season tickets for $100 and still be way ahead just on the tv money.

Game 3 of the Cubs series is Monday night. If they put Glennon in, the stadium will be empty. Empty. That’s an embarrassment to them but it’s pennies in the pocketbook. But if the MNF ratings SUCK IT, the Bears will get blamed at the owner’s meeting for that and that hurts the tv deal for 2018 and beyond. If the MNF ratings are in the toilet, I don’t know that it dents the Bears share of the pie (the whole tv revenue thing is crazy complex) but it has to factor in the decision if they use Trubisky.

I am convinced that if the decision is Pace’s to make, it’s more Glennon.

  • dusting off and cranking up my romanian predictalotor…

99.98 % chance Trub starting next game.

.01% chance he doesn’t and Fox is a russian secret agent
.01% chance he doesn’t and Pacebot malware got hacked by russian secret agent who is only known as “сыр”
