Five Thoughts on the NFL Draft (Based on Actual Reporting)

| April 24th, 2017

Have spent the last two weeks exchanging texts and emails with my two league sources. This is not a good time to gather information but here’s what I think is happening.

  • There is a clear divide in the league when it comes to the quarterbacks and there is at least one team that doesn’t have a first-round grade on any of them. That team’s favorite quarterback in the class? Pat Mahomes. I’m not going to read too much into that but I believe Mahomes will be the name called way earlier than many expect.
  • I think DeShone Kizer is now clearly the fourth, if not fifth, quarterback.
  • As I suspected, Solomon Thomas blew teams away when he spoke with them. Thomas is not only an exceptional football player, he’s also a great guy. I’m not confident he gets to the Bears at 3 but if he does and they don’t take him, they’ll regret it.
  • Question. What is the strength of this year’s draft? Answer: “You will be able to find secondary starters well into the third round.” (Good news for the Bears.)
  • Question. What is the weakness of this year’s draft? Answer: “Worst crop of offensive linemen in a generation.”

If I am the Bears, I am very wary of Lattimore’s hamstring issues and Allen’s shoulder situation lest they draft the next Chris Williams.

    • SC Dave

Agreed, although you have to wonder whether such memories survive general manager transitions.

    • Thompson Way

Allen’s shoulder situation is really a non issue. Why worry about something that is going to be an issue after the guy is retired from football, per league doctors…

      • MB30SD

        Per league propaganda.

Come on maings, this is the NFL…. And The Thompson Way.

      • I think someone posted in the last thread that Allen wore a harness.

Unless you’re a badass robot or pornstar, harnesses aren’t good omens.

        • Thompson Way

Sure you can go with someone who posted something in the last thread or you could go with documented statements from NFL doctors. Your choice…

    • MB30SD

Al with the #1 pole position!

    • BearDown100393

Actually that probably puts both of them in the lead.

      • AlbertInTucson

        THAT would be mightily disappointing.

  • Sahr Gborie

Pace will have a few players worth the #3 pick and will pick the best one. You just have to hope that he is not going to take a flyer on an injured player

    • Irish Sweetness

I’m sure his dream is the trade-down. Pressure of the 3 pick is gone, and we just ransack solid players in the next two rounds. And if you get Cleveland’s pick at 12, then you’re in line for an OJ Howard, or a player that’s fallen.

But then you’re standing there next year looking for a QB just the same with your dick in your hand, 20 below, with wind chill.

No matter what happens – and unrelated to any ‘experts’ draft ratings – we will get to draft one of the following players : Garrett, Watson, Trubiskey.

I get the love for Adams. But one of the above will change your organization (or maybe not if you listen to Warren Sapp), to an extent that would exceed the effect of a SS.

As long as he doesn’t draft Allen or Lattimore, we win. I don’t know what Thomas would do at 3-4 DE, but I would expect nothing.

      • MB30SD

Couple things, and we obviously disagree heavily about massively reaching for any qb in this year’s draft… Which is exactly what it would be. You don’t waste a #3 on a guy who’s going to have to sit for at least a year and then still might not make the leap to real NFL QB… Or a raw 1 year wonder on a shitty team in a shitty division. Eeeeespecially when you just paid a giraffe $18M.

Annnnyway, there really is no pressure at 3, in fact it’s pretty much simple math this year. Adams, Thomas, or Howard, will be there for you if no one offers you a great trade down deal… You just take the guy with the best grade from BPA + Need. Adams and Howard are as lock at their positions as you can get in the draft. You just sprint up and pick your guy. 1 + 1 = 2

I personally agree with Jeff and think Thomas will be a star, but if Adams is there, ya fucking simply say, yes fucking please Mr. Goodell, and thank you may I have another in Rd 2!

        • Sahr Gborie

I could not have said it any better if I tried.

        • Irish Sweetness

It’s not a waste if you figure he’s your QB. Did you ‘waste’ your time in college? Or did that time help you get a degree? He just needs to be mentored for a year or two.
So it’s not wasting a pick, it’s investing. We have our QB for this year, or next year. Watson is the man-in-waiting.If we take Adams, then we have no answer at the QB position long-term. again. we’re in a position to fix that now. This draft. Why pass that up for a safety? Will he be a great safety? Maybe. We’ll see. But he sure as shit can’t pass for 4000 yards.

No way of knowing where we’re drafting next season. Got to pull the trigger now.
We have the lemons this year. It’s lemonade time.

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

I honestly wasted my time in college. got a degree but did not learn anything new, except how much beer was too much, and i ran that experiment many times over 4 years.

          • MB30SD

I didn’t use my degree in real life. Don’t meet too many people who do.

          • CanadaBear

I did but it was a 2-year tech degree. That’s kinda the whole point to a 2-year degree. Get a job that pays decent and won’t disappear in the near future. Although, it’s not like my degree was in natural gas operations and controlling.

          • SC Dave

            I did

          • willbest

            Depends on the field.

          • MB30SD

            you’re hopeless mate, sorry.

You don’t waste a pick on a guy who’s not ready. We’re not the team to take that guy and have it turn out well, and definitely not at a # 3 pick (first one in a looong time). And not when you’re paying some dude $16 for just this year.

I mean, are you not listening to all of these mitigating factors, or are you just totally stubborn? You just don’t do it in our position. Giants, pats (if they didn’t have jimmy or the other kid), ravens maybe…

we destroy QBs, if you’re the chicago bears picking #3 you take a guy like luck or marriotta who can be a day-1 franchise. You don’t piss away your first #3 in yeeears on some high risk guy that doesn’t 100% have all the factors it takes to be a day 1 NFL starter. Period.

          • Can Watson play from under center? Is his footwork natural taking 3-5-7 step drops? Has he ever play actioned? Has he ever bootlegged? pump-faked? hard counted? Has he ever turned his back to the D? Has he audbiled under the center after reading the D, or where those Daffy Duck cards on the sideline doing what his brain should’ve been doing? Can he go through 2nd/3rd progessions and not just immediately take of running and get murdered/and/or dump it off to some little white WR on bubble screen? Has he ever thrown Post-Corner? Can he learn to slide or throw it away? Does he keep his eyes down field when feeling the pressure, or does he pack it up and run as soon as a finger whizzes his earhole? Is his arm better than Glennon’s – or Barkley’s? Can he anticipate and throw a guy open instead of waiting for him to be 1yd ahead?

These are alllll questions that must be answered in the affirmative to roll the dice on him.

But with all those aforementioned doubts, what are the chances it turns up 7?

It could be Watson overcomes all that, but deum. that’s a shit tons of “????”

  • Irish Sweetness

    1. But where does Thomas play as a Bear? If they put a tweener at 5T, good luck.

    2. Does a deep crop of DBs mean Pace pulls the trigger twice, or he just goes safety a bit lower than one?

    3. Not having a first round grade on any of the QBs (other than Mahomes)? If you want a QB, then there’s three or four worth having. Good luck also on waiting until the second round … where they’re supposed to get drafted.

4, We do need to think about using the second pick on OL. There’s no point doing it later on. There won’t be any starter-types left.

    • King of DBB

I don’t know what they would do with Thomas either. I still think you Lamar Woodley the guy and stand him up

      • Irish Sweetness

Have to. But then he’s a linebacker all of a sudden. In the NFL.

Has he even played linebacker in school?

        • MB30SD

3-4 olb aren’t reeeaaally linebackers Irish, they’re more like end rush guys that, if athletic and fast enough, can drop into coverage on certain plays…

You’re thinking 4-3 olb, like briggsy. Pretty different animal.

          • Irish Sweetness

That sounds like a linebacker to me. His responsibilities have changed. That’s a new position for a player, are we agreed on that?

          • MB30SD

rush the passer off the edge is priority #1 for our olb

was that briggy’s? What are we missing each other on here bud? They are basically the opposite

3-4 OLB: Rush the passer 1st, cover the run/pass second

4-3 OLB: Cover the run/pass 1st, rush the passer second

        • King of DBB

Houston didn’t stand up. Jared Allen didn’t stand up.

Look how those guys… wait… never mind

          • MB30SD

            awareness!

    • DaBearsBlog

He plays everywhere. He’s JJ Watt.

      • Irish Sweetness

Ah. JJ is 6’5 – the magic minimum for a DE, and 295lbs.

Solomon is 6’3 and 275. He disappears in the NFL, no?

    • Sahr Gborie

      1. Not sure where he plays. Let Fangio figure it out

      2. He pulls the trigger twice if
      A. He takes anyone other than Adams @#3
      B. He trades back out of #3
      C. He takes Adams@#3 and wants to put the position at rest for the next 10yrs

      3. QB’s will be taken ahead or time including the top 4 (Watson, Mahomes, Trub & Kaizer)

      4. Trust Pace to find quality talent in the later rounds

    • 1. Thomas will play 3-4 OLB where McPhee is now. They’ll likely split at first. Thomas is actually more athletic than McPhee, so I’m not worried about him thriving standing up.

      2. That’s the million dollar question. If Pace thinks Buddha Baker is a much better value in the 2nd than Hooker or Adams, sure. Can always nab a starting SS in the later rds.

      3. 3 QBs will go in the first. They’ll all be “reaches” until they prove otherwise on the gridiron

      4. I don’t think any one would complain too much if we go OL (specifically, OT – Bolles) in the 2nd. No secret Pace was gonna upgrade Massie this offseason but somehow that ravens RT scenario fell through.

  • Thompson Way

After playing around with several draft calculators, with the consensus that this years QBs are ranked in the late first, and early 2nd rounds, that the majority of the draft calculators have the top 3 gone in the first round. Bad news if your picking early like the Bears. If you grab who you want, the experts will say your reaching.

    • MB30SD

This is not, The Thompson Way….

I’m confused, why is it bad news?

We get Adams or Howard… Or the browns and sf pull a browns and we get garrett… there is zero reach.

You could argue Thomas is a bit of a reach @ 3, but not much.

      Splain please.

      • Sahr Gborie

Thomas is not a reach @3 if he is the best rated player in the pool of players by Pace and company. If this list (just and example. please don’t kill me) is their list of 10 players worth of the #3 pick Allen might not be a reach to them depending on where they have him ranked on the list. It would also be a reason to trade back of they believe they can still get one of their top10 players even of they drop back a few spots to the Jets/Saints/Bills for example

        M.Garrett
        J.Allen
        S.Thomas
        J.Adams
        M.Lattimore
        M.Hooker
        OJ.Howard
        D.Barnett
        T.Charlton
        R.Foster

        • MB30SD

Yes gorbs… This is one big circle jerk at this point man. We’ve gone over this every which fucking way already.

Please god just get here draft.

        • Irish Sweetness

Two QBs deserve to be on that list. It’s weird to exclude the top position.

          • Sahr Gborie

I excluded them because the list is based on who are considered a sure thing top10 talent deserving of being taken @#3. Watson is the only QB I would add to the list because I believe a 1st round pick (especially @#3) should be able to start from day1

          • MB30SD

Bingo… don’t worry, Irish doesn’t take those things into consideration, just watson’s college #s

        • leftcoast dave

Dude. If you think all of those players are of equal value, why pick any one of them at #3 when one of them will be there at #10? Do you think that there is no team in the NFL willing to give anything to move up to #3?

          • Sahr Gborie

im going by the philosophy that Pace follows. He has a pool of players he rates as 1st round talent . i just made a lost of players that most people have mocked to be 1st round talent.

consider that these players are also ranked differently by each team. if pace trades back for instance he might feel he can still get a 1st round player of value even if its not @ the #3 spot.

perfect example we traded down twice in the 2nd round of last year and were luck enough to land whitehair. not saying it will always happen. but it gives you an insight onto the mind of our GM.

        • Tortured Bear fan

I´d like a Taco in second round…………. very spicy please

      • Thompson Way

My bad, I meant if we took a QB at 3 that all the analysts would saying that Chicago reached…

        • MB30SD

Oh, then yes, I 100% agree with that

  • King of DBB
    • MB30SD

      Yes fucking please!

How hilarious would it be if trubz/Watson go 1-2.

I would laugh my ass off…

… Until pace takes lattimore or Allen with the next pick. : /

      • King of DBB

        then…. sadness…

      • Sahr Gborie

Lattimore and im not watching a single game this season

        • King of DBB

          Not even Turkey day?

          • MB30SD

            Not even turkey day!!!! HARUMPH!

Hahaha, that said, we fuck this draft up and I doubt I will watch more than a couple prime time games

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

does that mean you won’t post on here either?

      • Irish Sweetness

It could happen. If Cleveland can’t trade up?

  • King of DBB

    Domestic Battery,Bankruptcy, bad credit.

But we’re all cool with him taking grift to badmouth Garrett for some team. Hell, maybe the Bears paid him. He’s probably really really cheap.

    • CanadaBear

Bad things happen when you employ hookers. Don’t give a crap about WS either way but what a tool.

    • AlbertInTucson

      You forgot “Abject Stupidity”.

He’s just regurgitating other’s critiques of Garrett.

    • BearDown100393

Warren Sapp, future Director of Player Operations, President, Chicago Bears.

    • AlbertInTucson

I say he’s just parroting what he (and we) have heard and he doesn’t do a lick of real research.

  • King of DBB

    Chicago Bears

The Bears will draft a quarterback.

Chicago is unlikely to take a quarterback in Round 1 — unless it manages to trade out of the third overall pick — but at some point, the club must address the position. Veteran Mike Glennon is the unquestioned starter in 2017 — he will make $16 million guaranteed this season — but the long-term picture at quarterback is fuzzy. Maybe Glennon thrives in Chicago. That is entirely possible, although Glennon’s supporting cast is suspect. In the event Glennon doesn’t pan out or is injured, the Bears need a contingency plan. It’s hard to imagine Mark Sanchez or Connor Shaw atop the quarterback depth chart in 2018. — Jeff Dickerson

    http://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2017/story/_/page/32for32x170424/2017-nfl-draft-predictions-all-32-teams-round-1-trades-picks

“For a guy named Dickerson, he’s really just a cunt.” -Mark Sanchez.

    • CanadaBear

I think it’s this year, too. Just because they are at 3. Who knows? I don’t care who they draft as long as they don’t suck.

      • AlbertInTucson

Nice Mantra: “Please, just don’t SUCK”.

        • CanadaBear

It seems reasonable to me. If you’re getting appropriate value from each draft position in the first 3 rds, the roster would improve quickly.

    • BearDown100393

      “Maybe Glennon thrives in Chicago”

      Giraffes hate the cold.

    • Here’s the thing. If Glennon comes out in this draft, he’s likely the #1 QB.

      Tall. Check.
      Arm. Check
      NFL O. Check
Good release. Check edit (? but tends to keep it high).
      Intangibles. Check.
      Aggressive. Check

He has less questions than any of these guys coming out. He’s basically a more aggressive bigger/ armed Peterman with much more NFL O experience.

      Didn’t cost us a #3 either.

Will Pace want insurance? Is insurance worth a #3 pick?

      Stay tuned…

  • Sahr Gborie

    http://www.windycitygridiron.com/2017/4/24/15406704/chicago-bears-deshaun-watson-jonathan-allen-actual-third-overall-pick-nfl-draft-2017

What player will the Bears ACTUALLY take at No. 3 overall?
Watson – I would rather Adams

    • MB30SD

      Windy. Shitty. Gridiron.

      Stop going to that cuck.

    • David Green

Who do you think is going to be the reason for turning their team around and making them successful? I’ll say it’s Watson … whatever team gets him is going to turn around very quickly. Going with Adams would fix 1 position, not even the entire secondary would be fixed by taking him, you’d still need corners to lockdown receivers, safeties aren’t very high on my pecking order list, too many other things have to be great for them to be great. But, taking a capable qb solves a lot of problems! If Pace goes with a qb at #3, I’m sure he believes that qb is capable of leading this team for years, he’s worth building with and around, if he doesn’t view one of those guys as such, he won’t take him, if he does, it should be viewed as the right thing to do, no rebuild without a qb to rebuild with.

      • Irish Sweetness

That’s the shit I’m talkin’ ’bout David!

It would be a great thing to look forward to, the building of a franchise QB. In a Bears’ jersey!

      • “I’ll say it’s Watson … whatever team gets him is going to turn around very quickly.”

What about him do you like more than Trubisky, or even Peterman?

    • BearDown100393

“The Bears will definitely take a player with the 3rd pick unless Pace drafts down in which he will take a few more. The draft is a very very very complicated manner because it involves a lot of teams and a lot of football players out of college. And the Bears cannot draft 1st or 2nd either. Unless they trade up. Or they may trade down. Or they made stay put. Sometimes you can’t get the player you really want anyway because he might go at the 1st or 2nd pick. I will never forget when Brett Favre got drafted. He was the only guy drafted in the entire draft because everyone else quit when the could not get Brett Favre. And I tell you one thing more, that was the day Brett Favre became Brett Favre. I was there.” – John Madden

  • Sactowns#1

“You will be able to find secondary starters well into the third round.” _ Please read that twice MB. Actually, make this your daily affirmation until next week.

    • MB30SD

quotes from a guy who owns 2 cats now (I think).

And we’re the bears. Yes, if we were that pats that would be a factual statement. With us, it’s a fucking crapshoot at best.

      • willbest

At least 2, and I am okay with that being a reason to disqualify a man’s opinion

      • Sactowns#1

I have one dog and one turtle. I own zero cats.

        • MB30SD

          what sane man fucking would?!?!?!

          …wait…. a turtle?!?!

    • CanadaBear

      None for me thanks.

    • Was that Stonewall Jackson portrait always in that room? Or does ea prez select which portraits go where?

      intereeesting.

Also, don’t ppl shrink in space?

      Does that affect the wang?

  • CanadaBear

Don’t quite get some of you saying you’re quitting the Bears if they draft this guy or that guy. FFS none of us even know if any of these guys will pan out. I understand quitting the Bears but not over a draft pick. At least, not until they either pan out or bust.

    • AlbertInTucson

If, like me, you haven’t quit over 5 playoff appearances in 24 seasons…

      • AlbertInTucson

Bad draft or no, I’ll be watching at my favorite watering hole every week unless it’s on a local channel in which case I will watch at home.

        • CanadaBear

I wish I had a decent sports bar to watch the games.

          • AlbertInTucson

            I could WALK to mine.

It’s technically, believe it or not, a “Browns Bar”.

But they take care of our Bears’ group. Same section/TV every week.

            No muss, no fuss.

Good TVs. Decent eats. Good service.

          • CanadaBear

Up here there aren’t that many of them that have the Sunday Ticket. NFL is popular up here but not THAT popular. I was going to one in Mesa when we were there. Certainly better than any option up here.

          • AlbertInTucson

I’ll be in Mesa often, soon. The kids just built new there.

          • CanadaBear

I liked the area a lot but I could never handle the heat in the summer. Not to mention all the hoops my Beloved Bride would need to jump through (and medical insurance).

          • AlbertInTucson

The heat does not bother me (‘cept for the electric bill).

            I DETEST winter and cold.

            I am a complete weather-wuss.

          • AlbertInTucson

Bear performance aside, it a set of friends I would never see if I didn’t go.

Like when I gave up softball a few years ago. I should have quit even before I did, based on declining skill, but that was another group of buddies I mostly only saw at the games.

        • SC Dave

          That’s me too.

    • MB30SD

it’s not about a guy for me canada. It’s that this product has been garbage for 10 years now and I’m sick of it… especially when ted fucking phillips comes out and publicly said this org doesn’t give a flying fuck about winning. He said that publicly… and nothing happened. Not one thing. That seriously blew my mind. Up to that point, I thought we were just unlucky. We’re not unlucky, our ownership are buffoons who employ a CEO and head of FOOTBALL ops who publicly admits that winning doesn’t matter for our team.

So for me, it’s not about a single player, it’s if pace blows the draft and does things like… totally reach for a QB @ 3 when 2-4 almost guaranteed guys are there for you in positions of dire need, or maybe gets an injury risk like allen or lattimore instead of thomas or adams.

Moves that signify we’re still just throwing darts and there’s no concerted plan to pull us out of the mire.

That said… I don’t think that’s pace. I think a lot of my worry is PTSD over the last 2 regimes. I really hope we have a ‘holy shit, I didn’t expect that kind of season from the bears’ year. Not holding my breath though.

The product hasn’t been garbage for 10 years. It was mismanaged for about that long though, resulting in dogshit the last 3 years. Hard to tell if its still being poorly managed (at the GM level down).

The 2015 draft looked like darts, but I will grant he did not have his own staff in place, so you can’t expect much better. Last year he definitely had a plan, and I didn’t like it at the time. Wasn’t a fan of moving up for floyd, wasn’t a fan of moving back and missing out on Spriggs and Ward and a couple others and picking up Whitehair. In retrospect it he knew what he was doing. So he gets the benefit of the doubt this year. Then again, his FA this year looked like he was throwing darts after his plan fell apart.

        • Sahr Gborie

This FA was about filling out all positions of need with some kind of talent. Not necessarily the best but serviceable talent. That’s why I love his 1 year prove it deal. Since all positions are filled for the year he can now draft the BPA @3 or trade back or whatever works for him without having to reach for a player to fill a need.

      • evantonio

        what’s the Phillips quote?

        • willbest

It was pretty close to the fans are sheep and as long as they continue to hand us fat cash we don’t give a shit about putting in the effort to produce a quality product. Though in some fairness, I don’t think it came out exactly as he intended.

          • AlbertInTucson

If I were, George I’d have used that quote as an opportunity to send Teddy packing.

“Ted, we don’t need you to stand there and speak for the team by insulting the fan base’s intelligence. You’re done, here.”

          • SC Dave

I just posted it right here Al. At least I’m pretty damn sure that is the quote to which MB refers.

That’s definitely the quote. I don’t care if Sweaty Teddy hangs around just not as the prez. They desperately need a guy like Tom Coughlin to run things at the top.

‘Joniak asked Phillips with the growing success of the Cubs and Blackhawks what the Bears are doing to keep everyone engaged with their brand during a period when they are trying to get things going in the right direction?

“When we talk about appealing to sponsors, we never talk about wins and losses,” Phillips said. “A lot of the sales pitches that get done, they don’t talk about wins and losses. They talk about what the Bears mean to the city, the loyal fan base, the crossover of fans who are Bears fans and also fans of the other sports teams and I think for the most part we have had a lot of success doing that because people understand the power of the Bears brand and what it means to the city of Chicago, what it means to the NFL, what it means to their own brand. We’re pretty proud of that that you can kind of sustain strong business relationships without worrying about wins and losses. Obviously, when you win it’s better.”’

      • willbest

I said that with respects to a Hoyer lead Bears. Actually, I said that I wasn’t going to watch them until they were serious about winning again, so it would be a temporary situation. Glennon seems a bit close to Hoyer, but at least he hasn’t had ample opportunity to clearly define his limitations and those limitations don’t include the inability to throw the ball more than 12 yards.

I might think Trubisky or Watson is a bad gamble and its something desperate teams do, but at least it doesn’t signal “I give up”. On the defensive side of things there is a lot of talent that it makes hard to mess it up, though some players have greater injury risk than others. I have a preference for Thomas after Garrett, but I don’t really know nearly enough about talent evaluation to separate the men from the boys. I do know what the team needs though so if we draft Foster (presume he didn’t have the character problem) over Adams or Thomas I would go WTF like I did when we picked White over Beasley.

        • Irish Sweetness

I can’t see why Watson would be a ‘gamble’. If you’re the best QB in a draft, you’re hardly a gamble.

I get that people aren’t on board with drafting a QB in the first – I don’t understand it, but get it. To think that way because “it’s a bad draft class for QBs” is non-sensical if you draft one of the top two anyway.

Where do you all expect to draft your QB?

          • willbest

Watson looks like a good QB in every way except he screams RG4. If you want to run in the NFL you have to be smart like Wilson, or invincible like Cam. Otherwise you burn brightly for a short period of time.

          • AlbertInTucson

Cam only THINKS he’s invincible. He got hammered last season and he better wake up and smell the coffee.

          • CanadaBear

The refs let him take a beating. It’s not just because he’s big, some of it is due to some of the foolishness on the field. I’m guessing he started bitching about the refs somewhere along the line and they adjusted. And not in a good way for Cam. Reminds me of McMahon as far as some of the hits he’s taking.

          • Johnnywad

He lost his sense of smell a couple years ago. He’s down to about three good senses and the one good eye.

  • BearDown100393

“I think DeShone Kizer is now clearly the fourth, if not fifth, quarterback.”

Kizer disagrees. He is Tom Newton. Or is it Cam Brady?

    • King of DBB

“Name a college quarterback who goes into the game-plan meetings on Monday and throws his notes at the coaches,” Kizer said. “No one else game plans the way I do. I take my notes on a legal pad and I wad it up and slap the coaches across the face with it. And they thank me for it. They say, ‘Thank you Deshone, we needed that and we are going to shape up and listen to what you have to say.’ No one else prepares the way I do. No one else knows football the way I do. On Gruden’s show, he would take notes from me. I would be showing him film and he would just sit there in a puddle of his own sweat. I am very powerful and the ladies have no complaints. No one else is as big as I am. Huge. I am huge. Length and girth both. I am going to father more children than Johnny Waffle. No one else is as powerful a runner as I am. I am Notre Dame powerful. Knute Rockne would get down on one knee and kiss my ring if he were alive today. Pat Mahomes might throw the ball 80 yards and I can only throw the ball 72, but I guarantee he can’t throw an out route the way I can. I motherfucking guarantee it, like that Cajun chef used to say about his grits. I am a heartbreaker and a game taker. No one else can do what I can do. Most importantly, I am very very humble. And I’ve truly figured out in this process, if I can maximize all my potential in every aspect of the game – this is bold, like A1 Steak Sauce with some Insanity sauce tossed in to spice it right – I do have the ability to be the greatest quarterback to ever play. I mean you may as well call Kay Jewelers and have my GOAT chain made up now. Every kiss begins with K? Fuck that, every championship begins with K. As in Kizer. Imagine taking Brady’s intellect and Brady’s preparation and putting it on a guy with Cam Newton’s body. Women will be throwing their panties at me from the seats. It will legendary like Gladiator and I will entertain them all. All of them! I will be the Roman Emperor of the NFL. Why can’t I be the greatest? Ali great. I will be like Ali standing over Liston, except I will be knocking out the Lombardi trophy again and again. The only thing stopping me from it is me. And I cannot be stopped. I am single handedly going to make America great again. That’s what’s driving me now.” -Kizer

      “Diluted Sample”.

    “DaBearsBlog @dabearsblog
Not sure I’m quite prepared for what Bears taking a QB at 3 would mean. It’d be the most franchise-altering moment since the Cutler trade.”

With about the same outcome. Don’t invest a 3 in another cuck. If another andrew luck or mariotta was in this draft, I’d be all over it. Not these two (four) guys thanks.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Draft a QB. The will be the greatest ever.

      • Irish Sweetness

Either Trubs or Watson could probably break Cutler’s records.

    • Sahr Gborie

what if pace sees mariota in watson or any of the others? im not making comparisons to luck because he is a different breed and it would be disrepectful

      • MB30SD

        suuure, so he’s a swami?

And pretty much every other GM, scout, ‘expert’, etc… is wrong and doesn’t see it

        • Sahr Gborie

did you trust him when he said mariota was the QB he was after?
what about when he wanted wentz? but the only reason he took them was because the price was too steep. if you trusted him then. you should trust him now. mariota is a started who is looking the part of a franchise qb. whentz only has 1 year under him but he looks the part.

if this was the previous 2 gm’s i would be very hesitant to trust them. but i trust pace and his judgment. his draft track record has more hits than misses.

          • MB30SD

yeah, on both of those guys the entire fucking NFL machine was saying the same thing.

Are they saying those same things about ANY of these guys?

the answer is no. it’s been pretty much the exact opposite.

Thus… if pace thinks they are mariotta or wentz 2.0, he’s either a genius, a fucking swami, or he’s a cuck.

all in all, no one really knows what these guys will turn out to be, but risking a #3 on anything but an almost sure thing when there’s so much almost guaranteed D talent at our spot would be inane.

          • Sahr Gborie

what the rest of the league says is nice but what matters to the bears is what pace says and thinks. he saw something in both of those guys. im not a huge watson fan i would rather we take adams or thomas. but if pace sees in watson what he saw in mariota and wentz then im going to trust him until he gives me a reason not to trust him.

          • MB30SD

soooo, you didn’t refute my points or make your own argument… you just said pace will pick who he picks.

            Eyeball test. Stats. Stats. Stats.

He’s a stud. Will he be a stud in the NFL? Well, we can find out with or without him, but it might be a good shout to have him on our team. The payoff is huge.

      • SC Dave

        Or Glennon.

    • The irony is, if a Mariotta, Luck, Winston or even Wentz were in this draft, the Browns would take him #1. SF would draft Garett.

And we’d be at #3 with basically the same options.

      • MB30SD

        lattimore or allen?

        • It’s just so Bears. We finally get a top #3 pick, and it sorta doesn’t matter if we would have ‘earned’ usual #8ish pick.

2 spots up and we’d have both Aaron Donald and Leonard Williams right now.

I can almost guarantee you that Thomas, Allen, Adams, Hooker, Howard (or Foster) will be there at #10

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

My gut feeling is that we stay put at 3 and draft Adams. Then we use our 2nd and 3rd picks to trade back up into the first to grab a QB, most likely Mahomes.

    • I have bizarro gut.

We’re not drafting Adams or Hooker.

Staying put. Drafting Thomas or Watson/Trub.

      Dark horse Barrett.

I think Mahomes will get drafted by either the Texans, or some other team that is looking ahead and can truly bench him like the Cards, Gmen or Aints.

      • leftcoast dave

After seeing the Vegas over/under on the QBs, I’m thinking you might be right. Funny how the “chatter” has been all over the board. Today it again looking like the least valuable 3 in years to be holding with 2-6 talking about trading down.

        • Everyone wants Pace to trade down, but if you’re the teams below, WHO is worth trading up for at #3?

Most fans don’t think about how other teams operate. But if you’re the Jets, would YOU trade up for Watson or Trubisky at #3?

Or if you’re the Titans, would you trade up for Adams or whatever at #3 when you can likely land players like Hooker, Howard, Lattimore, Thomas, Allen, Fournette just staying put.

Only a team in say the 12 range might contemplate it, but it’s such a deep defensive draft, they’ll likely trade up only marginally like we did with Floyd (meaning, not reach all the way to #3).

That’s what I see. I see action going down on draft day, but it’ll be in the #5-10 range (unless a mega surprise happens like SF trading with WASH, etc). .

          • leftcoast dave

I’m tending to agree. Maybe we should just tell the Jets we’ll take their two threes to trade. I’ve seen them with interest in Fournette. Hell, maybe we should settle for their top three.

          • SC Dave

I can also only see Fournette.

          • If that WR was like Julio or Green coming out, maybe him cuz there’s a rather steep drop off after him.
            But nope. Bears luck.

          • Irish Sweetness

I was watching Colbert. Sheryl Sandberg is on, hawking her book about grief. I got a serious problem with this bitch.

This is Zuck’s COO at Facebook. Her hubby died on her just after she wrote Lean In, a book about how women need to try more at work and embrace opportunity. Then she backtracked when confronted with the fact not every woman had her Stanford background and the opportunities she had been given.

So she writes Lean IN, and then the hubby croaks. She goes into a funk, and now – couple years later – she does what every self narcissist does during the transparent Facebook generation: she writes a book about her tribulations having lost her spouse.

But we are still not at the part that pisses me off. Here she is, hawking this fucking book a couple years after he croaked and talking about her trial.

Here is the truth: In the Valley, everyone knows that 3 MONTHS after he is in the ground, she is getting dick from Bobby Kotick.

Bobby Kotick is the CEO of Activision and widely considered the most hated person on the internet. He famously tried to set up some of the Call of Duty producers on IP theft, and has embraced his asshole persona, saying he wanted to take all the fun out of MAKING games, after he reduced benefits and offshored much of the programming of the cash cow Call of Duty line. He also looks like if Spanky from the little rascals was in the Irish mob. Like Jonah Hill’s little brother who put his donated money in a suitcase at his bar mitzvah and drove to Vegas that night with it to shit it all away playing craps on a bender.

    https://static.giantbomb.com/uploads/scale_small/0/2891/793899-kotick3.jpg

He and Jed Dork own the punchable face club. They really do.

So Sandberg is taking it sideways in the ass from this prick while her husband’s body hasn’t even started rotting yet while simultaneously writing a book about how Facebook helped her get through her grief, now she is hawking this book on the circuit.

Christ. She is puke worthy. Stanford MBA and worth millions and still acting like a trailer skank. Yuck.

    • MB30SD

That place is a fucking cesspool.

We did a full roadshow for our B… We were right in the middle of meeting all those ridiculous assholes when the shit hit the fan. Like literally right in the middle of our run.
