    Bear down, folks!

Has the new season of Hard Knocks started yet?

    • I believe the first episode aired Tuesday night.

    • Irish Sweetness

Watch the full episode here on NFL.COM. They play the Bears in practice! I saw Freeman flying about. Jameis did the chicken dance like a cornered rat, escaped … and hit a long one downfield.

    Bear down!

I was hoping the game would be on up here. Of course, it isn’t. Hopefully there will be no injuries and the team looks well coached. Jeff will get his wish tonight. They will definitely play the kid.

2200 Channels. or, about 2180 more than I ever watch.

          • willbest

Half those channels are just west coast delays of the east coast “broadcast”. Some of them might be interesting if they came with subtitles. I would watch Russian or Chinese state TV news occasionally just to see what position they want their populace to believe in.

          • CRAZYBEARNORTH48

The Sling blue package comes with NFL network and you can get it free for 7 days if you have a good internet connection and haven’t used their promo yet. Its $25 per month normal. I have given serious consideration to getting it because it also comes with FS1 & 2 and NBCSN which would allow me to watch the cubs and blackhawks.

  • Irish Sweetness

I have to somehow extract myself from a Mother’s day celebration at school (with 3000 people watching) and watch the game on my projector back in the lab.

Watch Skip Bayless analyze MMA and McGregor’s fight against Diaz. It’s AWFUL.

    https://youtu.be/A5CZpYwa3go?t=193

Bayless clearly knows NOTHING about MMA. Or boxing. But with his Children of the Corn hair firmly glued to his noggin, he sets out acting every bit the total authority.

    • beninnorcal

Bayless is terrible. I remember that show where he and Steven A. would duke it out over various subjects. I can’t stand either of those guys.

Advantages of being in the home market. It gets put on channel 44 or whatever.

          • willbest

although I guess in theory they are only allowed to do that if the game sells out, which I wouldn’t think the pre-season would.

    • SC Dave

Well, the NFL site had it listed when I looked Monday, so I’m assuming it still is tonight’s game.

  • King of DBB

Hubby Bubby said Watson was his choice at #1 QB in the draft, and thaht he had him rated MILES above The Trewbie.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/early-lead/wp/2017/08/10/the-texans-deshaun-watson-looked-so-good-he-had-panthers-fans-rooting-for-him/?utm_term=.47d6b4340f60

If Trewbie falters tonight, it will look more and more like Hub was right.

I know, I know. The backbenchers here: Huck Fub.

    • beninnorcal

I don’t think we’ll know much after tonight. After they’ve each played a season or three though..

      • King of DBB

If Trewb doesn’t take any snaps from under center and then run him total shotgun, that would be a worrysome sign. If he does take the snap and his 3 and 5 step drops look poor and he can’t make the step up or roll out read, that would be worrysome. That would mean he has a long way to go.

We’ll see tonight. Let’s see how he acquits himself and I think if he plays almost all the 2nd half as is predicted, we might have some idea how far along the kid is.

        • Elect A Clown. Expect A Circus

If I have read this coaching staff and Pace right, they will not shy away from making Trub uncomfortable. So I fully expect Trub to take snap under center. And I fully expect him to make some mistakes and do a few good things. He is one of the most raw #2 overall pick with a lot of learning to do and it won’t always be linear growth.

        • beninnorcal

You’re right, I can agree on all that. But to really say whether we should’ve gone with Watson over Mitch before either of them even starts a real game, much less a whole season, is a stretch.
But that’s just, like, my opinion, man..

          • King of DBB

I was just acting as a counterbalance to some of Jeff’s Kool Aid.

Pace has the kid on a 2 year plan anyway, whereas the Texans are looking to possibly have somebody play this year. So we won’t know who has the better career for years and years. But Watson looks like somebody right now who can come in and start, and that’s big for a team like the Texans who shit the bed with that Osweiller debacle.

          • beninnorcal

No, you’re right too. If Mitch comes out all ‘fumbly-fingers’ and gets sacked a couple times then Watson throws a few TD’s,
can’t say I’d be feeling so great about our pick. After one ‘meaningless’ game, mind you. You’re right.
But we must also find restraint of the flipside happens, I guess.

        • I doubt Trub doesn’t take ANY snaps from under center.

But the Texans ran a lot of that high-tempo spread for Watson because that’s what he ran in college, so I expect the Bears to do the same with Trub.

Plus, I think Jeff cited how we ran 65% shotgun last season.

So if I had to take a wild guess, if it’s close or we’re behind with Trub, maybe like 75% shotgun.

If we’re ahead milking the clock, lots of handoffs.

Should be interesting to see if they do like the Texans or if they do the opposite and just force him to run a conventional O under center to force him to work on it.

The Bucs did the latter with Winston.

          • CanadaBear

I doubt they create a pkg for MT. Nathan Lane’s O is pretty QB friendly and MT seems to be picking it up from what you read and hear.

    • leftcoastdave

I think it is more a matter of style of play for the NFC North. Pure drop back passer is the want. Watson can be great with his tools and will be fun to see how he works into their system.

    • willbest

Trub wasn’t drafted to play this year. Hub is only right if 3 years from now Watson is playing as a top 20 and Trub is headed for 3 years as backup QB before teaching high school football.

    • Shaw looked good in PS too.

I saw Watson last night. Was curious.

      1. Looked poise (no surprise)
      2. Looked accurate on short to intermediate routes (no surprise)
      3. Had happy feet, for better or worse (no surprise)
      4. Looked ‘slower’ given that the NFL is much faster (no surprise)
      5. Still looked skinny and like any big hit could break him (no surprise)
      6. Don’t think he even attempted a throw 20+ yds (no surprise).

He pretty much played how I expected.

Gotta remember that in the 1st PS game, Ds don’t game plan. It’s boiler plate so that the coaches weed out the suckas.

We all see what the NFL does to run/readoption/spread QBs.

Call me when Watson survives a season of this.

      http://wpmedia.theprovince.com/2016/09/cam-newton.gif?w=640

      • SC Dave

And that was not flagged, right?

        • Pretty sure it wasn’t. In the Panther’s version of “why ur team sucks” I think they joked that Cam actually got flagged for one head-to-head hit.

This is why running QBs typically don’t last. Cam is perhaps the best built for it with his athleticism, arm, and frame, but when you get slammed like that…

I think a lot of it is pscyhological.

Defenders HATE QBs. They all have the Buddy Ryan ‘only good qb is a dead qb’ mentality, and when a QB (black or white) has the AUDACITY to run, holy shit, that just enrages them, and they lay down the law.

They prefer their QBs slow and scared like Peyton

          • SC Dave

He wanted to keep the clock running, obviously.

Anyone have any suggestions about “investing” in smaller crypto currency players like a penny stock type investment?
I’m looking to diversify my gambling activities this year and currency feels more legitimate….even though NFL gambling requires true skill and is the only honorable way to gamble.

    • Scharfinator

As long as you realize it is still gambling, go for it.

      • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

I will be sticking with NFL gambling as GP basically just whipped out his digital cock and slapped it down on my desk with a resounding thud.

    • King of DBB

Negative interest rates in Europe and fiat demonetization in developing countries are still driving demand for Bitcoin and alternative cryptocurrencies. Although Bitcoin was initially ridiculed as money for computer nerds and a conduit for illegal activity, investors are beginning to see the potential for it to be an integral part of wealth management from the perspective of portfolio diversification. It’s a hedge against deflation.

Ethereum, backed by central banks (JP Chase here) want to kill bitcoin and replace it with one backed by a fiat currency. Which would undermine it’s ability as a currency to free float.

Short answer: I don’t know how much longer the bitcoin choo choo has steam in it.

In the summer of 2015 when bitcoin was down, I bought 125 bitcoins for about 30k. I used an offline wallet as the Mt. Gox and other holding pens were all scams and everybody knew it; the only secure way to do it was to hold it yourself. So I have the wallet on a secured laptop with a backup copy on a USB stick. I was thinking of going ahead and selling my wallet this week or next. You do the math.

    Heads up..

Paulie’s phone was a hot mic. His phone had been legally hacked by the United States intelligence community under an SS7 exploit and turned into a ‘hot mic’ where he was, unbeknownst to him, recording all those with whom he was speaking. Washington Post has obtained tapes with Orange Chimpanzee and Paulie recorded at more than one meeting committing treason with Russians. Mueller has asked them to hold off on publishing.

Remember back in March Orange Chimpanzee was squealing “Obama had my phones tapped’.. this is why. He knows he is on tape through Paulie and others.

Authority for the FBI to hot-mic Paul Manafort’s phone was granted by the Foreign Intelligence Services Court, which provided two warrants to Director Comey on October 15 for ‘any US person’ in relation to money laundering and other offenses related to national security granted against Alfa Bank and SVB Bank.

Wait for TreasonTapes to be released in the next few months.

    • You may be new around here, so this is a PSA.

On game day, even fucking a PS one, no politics.

We waited 8 months to see the beloved, having to endure baseball, basketball, golf, hockey, and men in spandex dry-humping in an octagon for football today.

      Save that for future reference.

      • beninnorcal

Thanks, Butch. I wholeheartedly agree. Fuck politics, ‘Lil Kimmy’s gonna nuke us anyhow so lets enjoy some meaningless football.

          • CanadaBear

I hate politics on here but that’s life. My problem is game day brings out the worst of everything I hate. No fucking way. This is bullshit. You read this on a whackjob site. Bonus conspiracy dude points for working Signalling System 7 into the jargon – note however: SS7 has nothing to do with cellphones. It’s how phone switches in central offices talk to one another and set up calls.

I’ve had the Sunday ticket since 2008, simply because I watch every Bear game. Before I had the ticket, I spent my early 20’s watching at bars(that had the ticket) where you may or may not have sound and may or may not have to deal with some obnovious strangers.
I really don’t care for Directv at all but I gotta have the ticket. Anyone else out of market and have this issue? Isn’t there some way to get a hacked firestick to get any game, or will that lead me to some group showers with a high chance of unwanted butt sex?

    • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

I’m going Sunday Ticket because I will be needing to watch both of my teams this year. Can I watch replays of games with Sunday ticket?

      • beninnorcal

No replays but if you have directv then you have dvr. I’ve recorded every Bears game since ’08. And I usually watch them each again at some point.

    • Bender McLugh

Yeah the Firestick you can just install Kodi & a VPN service and then within Kodi you may or may not be able to stream the live games. I’ve been testing it the last month or so and it works for baseball, but it’s not great and inconsistent. I’m sure there are add-ons to Kodi that work better than what I’ve been testing though, but I’m not certain what they are.

Just good Kodi & Firestick and go from there.

      • Bender McLugh

        google Kodi, not good

        • beninnorcal

That’s what I’ve heard about, so keep me updated of how you’re liking it. Might be something I’d look into.

          • Bender McLugh

definitely, I’ll let y’all know. We’re getting the ticket but may cancel if the streams are solid

      • EnderWiggin

This is what I do. I use Exodus on Kodi. We watch every TV show we want a few minutes after they air, and I can get almost all sporting events live (I had trouble with a few Illini games last season, but the Bears games – no problem) with a program called Sports Devil. Folks have to remember, streaming a show or sporting event is not illegal, only hosting it is.

        • What in the heck is Exodus and Kodi? (caveman groan)

Is it like Reddit or VIP streaming?

Or are they programs I can download for free without giving my laptop an STD?

        • Bender McLugh

Nice, Sports Devil. I’ll give it a go

    • AlbertInTucson

I find going to my nearby drinking establishment is a better buy.

Runs me about less than $25/game but that includes Food, adult beverages and someone to wait on me.

      • Bender McLugh

Did this last year, but it got out of hand real quick for me & the wifey. Plus the bar we went to is a Steeler’s Den and those fans are brutal to watch games next to.

        • willbest

My wife was visiting her sister and new niece recently. Took the kids to a local restaurant and I realized that the bill was less than half what it normally is because when the whole family goes its an additional entree, 3 drinks (2 each instead of just 1 for me) and an appetizer. Wives are expensive.

        • AlbertInTucson

          1) It’s just me so, that keeps the costs in line.

          2) My place is, officially, “A Browns Bar”. They get abut 30 Brownies every week. They get the biggest TV in the place.
But, and this is so Browns, the biggest TV is also the WORST TV in the place.
An ancient overhead projection big screen.

          3) I could walk to the place in about 10 minutes.

          • That was the same set up I had when I used to have to hit bars at 10AM for Bears games.

For some reason, the Dog Pound owned that bar with the biggest TV, but I was more than OK in the dark corner watching the beloved while they were barking and yelling.

          • SC Dave

Never had to get up that early, but yeah, sometimes the quieter corners are better. Especially when we are humiliatingly bad.

Of course, if we get good, all the bandwagons will come out inanely babbling “DA BEARS!” and other stupid shit.

          • It was funny watching them, esp when they played the Steelers.

Like, I knew the outcome, but there they were, still hooting and hollering (fast forward 3hrs)…cursing and slamming the bar table while muttering under their breath leaving.

          • AlbertInTucson

If bandwagonners are the price for “Good”, I’ll gladly pay it!

          • AlbertInTucson

Can you imagine the explosion on Da Blog if they ever get good again?

            Even “Highly Competitive”…?

          • AlbertInTucson

            I love the 10a starts.

          • Bender McLugh

            LOL #3 hahaha soooo Browns

          • AlbertInTucson

Have to give them credit. They are die-hards. Show up every week.

            Like me.

          • Bender McLugh

They really are. Friend of mine has season tickets, stick through it all

          • CanadaBear

Those projection TV’s are brutal. Terrible picture and the sound is usually just slightly louder than WWII.

          • So I was talking to this chick, more or less.

Long story short, we’re chit chatting. She mentions she likes Star Wars. So, I come over with a bottle and the Blue-Ray Star Wars pack.

She looks at them, “Oh. I don’t own a tv, just a projector”

          • AlbertInTucson

Did she own a “Princess Leia Jabba The Hut Bikini”?

          • AlbertInTucson

            Oh you’ve SEEN this TV?

I’m surprised it’s still in there not to mention, surprised it still works.

Everything else is a flat screen from THIS century.

          • CanadaBear

The bar in Calgary had that set up for the main game. Their picture was actually OK for a projection TV but the sound was earth shattering. + they had one of those VR golf things where they hit golf balls into a screen. It sounds like someone is constantly slamming a door. Ugh!

        • CanadaBear

Since I don’t drink, it’s not all that expensive but I just get tired of guys screaming and yelling the whole time. The Bears are rarely on the big TV/w sound.

There’s a pub close by that is advertising the Sunday Ticket. I asked the owner if they are going to open by 10 when the games start? He looked at me like I was a martian. We both started laughing and he said it would probably be a good idea if he looked into it. He’s a fisherman by trade (indigenous) and probably has never watched the NFL. I got the impression he’s not a sports fan at all. Hope they get it together because he has the best Halibut and chips I’ve ever had. Not to mention, he’s a really nice guy.

          • Bender McLugh

yeah man, that sounds like a great place to watch. Gotta have the good grub

          • CanadaBear

Exactly. Since I don’t drink, if I don’t order food my bill is about $5. That’s not fair to the pub or wait staff. If the food is just OK (like the place where I used to watch the games) it just seems like a bad idea.

          • AlbertInTucson

I only have 1, maybe 2 adult beverages before I switch to soft drinks so that keeps the bill down, but I always buy food.

Server always gets at least a 5.

And, if you’re gonna watch and take up space but just have coke or iced tea, you HAVE buy some food.

Some places have different classes of liquor licenses and have stay heavier on the FOOD sales.

          • CanadaBear

Oh yeah, the server is always tipped well. I went to a place in Mesa that was fun. The food was decent and the bartender was funny as hell. My Beloved Bride dropped me off and I ended up ordering this gigantic brownie, ice cream, whipped cream concoction. When my Honey Bunny came back the bartender ratted me out before she even sat down. Good Stuff!

          • AlbertInTucson

When I first started watching there, they couldn’t even sell booze before Noon on Sundays.

          • CanadaBear

When I was a kid the bars were closed on Sunday. That’s why everyone joined the KC’s, Elks, Eagles, etc.

          • AlbertInTucson

Last call used to be 1am here not too long ago.

            Now it’s 2a.

          • AlbertInTucson

Friends used to know a guy who owned a bar in Cicero.

It only had to be closed for at least 1 hour a day.

          • SC Dave

When I was growing up in the 70s, many bars in Cook county stayed open until 4. So we’d leave DuPage about 1:45 (they closed at 2) and head across the county line.

          • CanadaBear

In IA it was 2 and we would cross the Mississippi into IL and drink until 3. There were bars where you could bring in bottles and buy set ups but those were places where I had no business being in there.

    • This is Jeff’s shizo stance.

You can go back in his Twit and also find “Glennon is not good” which at least coincides with his Trub-love.

      But then that quote.

He also proclaimed McCown, Hoyer and Barkley dead b4 even taking a snap, and they all arguably performed as well (or better) as his then man-crush Cargo.

So when it comes to Jeff and Bear QBs…

I remember school being canceled in rural Kentucky because of rain.

They thought it was going to snow.

I drove to school like an idiot thinking “what?” Before they told me school was off.

But I can understand those school buses having problems on dirt roads.

“Glennon had a promising if uninspiring rookie season and hasn’t taken a
meaningful snap in two seasons. Nobody knows what he is currently.” – Jeff

This doesn’t sound like the same guy trying to shove Glennon into oncoming traffic the last week. Jeff must not have started his pre-game drinking yet. Or maybe he has? I don’t know how that works exactly.

    • CanadaBear

It’s different for everyone! At least Jeff strikes me as a happy drunk. The other kind are to be avoided at all costs.

      • AlbertInTucson

        “Happy Drunk”?

        Really, Canada?

I don’t get that feeling at all.

When he took off after Ginny a while back it seemed pretty angry.

When I voiced an objection to it, he told me I had no sense of humor.

        • CanadaBear

Forgot about that one. I really don’t like it when people get really personal about Virginia. I’m old, that’s it in a nutshell. Kinda the same for George because I really believe he cares. Now Mikey, they can say whatever they want because he was such a jagoff. I don’t say much on here because it’s not exactly a consistent clear-cut approach. I just wish they would sell the team to someone that would run it competently.

          • AlbertInTucson

There’s funny and there’s insulting. I thought going after her was the latter.

            Mikey?

            Open season.

    • ButtonShoes

Jeff has one goal – to somehow will Trubisky into being the starter. So he’ll say whatever he has to say about Glennon to get that to happen, even if that means contradicting himself. It’s shameless, but direct.

Doesn’t mean he’s wrong about Glennon sucking, though.

  • KentuckyBearsFan

I googled “bears preseason schedule”. Apparently Chicago is in 1st place with a 0-0 record.

But that must mean everyone is in first place. In preseason. It’s like elementary school where everyone gets a mini-trophy for participating.

Early accounts are the draft is going 1,2 3 QB, QB, QB so a 3-win season means you can stock the hell up on defensive talent after you trade your top 3 pick for 3 firsts and a pair of seconds.

Two national beat writers on with Mully this am were talking Foxy.

Narrative was: if Pace’s moves start to gel and Trewbie gets close to ready, then Fox is gone. Fox is a guy who keeps the ship sailing when morale is low, but he’s a turrible field general and a bit of a softie. And he’s just shit in the post-season.

If you are keeping score at home, that means:

    A. If the Bears are awful and only match the 3 win season, Fox is gone for being a scapegoat
    B. If the Bears are surprisingly good, and play over .500 ball, then Fox is gone in favor of a guy who can coach playoff games and take them to the next level.

    So…. uh…. Fox is gone.

He’s also at the end of his career. His next career move involves a fishing boat.

So – how does he respond? This staff may surprise – guys who just stopped caring about tomorrow and just take the field with some real twists in there.

    • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

      Triple reverses?

    • “Isn’t winning the division enough?” Fox.

      Terminated.

Donkeys win the SB the very next yr after getting embarrassed in the previous SB.

      #OneDumpFox

Fox isn’t even the guy to right the ship (worse record than Trest). The rats are abandoning ship, and it hasn’t even left the dock.

    • Irish Sweetness

      CHUCKY!!

  • Guys I’m genuinely excited about seeing.

    – Trub
    – Sasheen
    – Cohen
    – Jackson
    – Floyd
    – Prince/Cooper
    – Cam

    Guys I’m curios about

    – Glennon
    – Kwiat
    – Bullard
    – White
    – Gentry
    – Benny the Jet (on returns as well)
    – Sims

    • CanadaBear

Good list. I think the PS games are way more interesting if your team was 3-13 the previous year. When the Beloved were good the PS was BS. Now that they are terrible it holds some hope for a better future.

    • willbest

I have written White off more than Fuller. The realization that the money train is over has a chance to cure pussitis. There isn’t a fix for brittle bone.

    • SC Dave

Shaheen and Cohen get my votes, though I like the Glennon and Kwiat choices.

      • willbest

What specifically will you be looking with regards to Kwiat?

        • SC Dave

I think mostly range to the outside and pass coverage.

From what I remember of last season, he did okay on the inside anticipating where the play was going. So I’ll be watching to see whether I am remembering correctly there too.

Another intriguing thing is probably Christian Jones, who the staff says has improved the most of anyone on the team. Yes, he had plenty of room.

Ideally, I would like to get comfortable that those two guys can provide decent depth behind Freeman and Trevathan.

          • Kwiat and Jones are like Ying/Yang.

Kwiat works better in space but isn’t twitchy, while Jones is all twitch, but lost in space (esp pass coverage).

If Jones can learn to cover and play in space (and not just attack), then he could be something, but it’s been like 3 yrs, so I ain’t holding my breath.

I smoked a brisket for tonight, with assist from the wife who will rue the day she bought me a wifi meat thermometer as I can tell her to make adjustments from work. A bit more effort than I usually put into a pre-season game but I am thirsty for football and didn’t make it when I thought I would a couple weeks back. In the glass tonight will be Glennglassaugh Revival which I have never had before. This will pair nicely with the Bears since I don’t know what to expect from them either.

What in the world is the GlengaryGlennRoss? Scotch?

      • willbest

        yes

The distillery just got back in business in 08 after a 30year hiatus. So its very young scotch. That makes it cheaper, it also generally means its not going to be that great, but there have been exceptions. Older isn’t always better. If it does turn out to be good though I will buy a case or two. There have been a few expressions come out that I really liked only to watch the prices go up 50% or more when they catch on. I will then grumble and go pick up a bottle of something more affordable.

    B. Think he’ll be in with 1st and 2nd team knocking out the 2 yr rust.

    Edit. Kickers don’t count.

All these ridiculous, nonsensical articles for months about how this team is better, and here they are in their first preseason game, playing just like the crappy team they were last year. Denver’s o-line sucks.

  • SC Dave

Knew that was Carey and not Langford, since the pile moved forward.

    Catch. The. Fucking. Ball. Adam.

    • Carey really wants to make the team. He hungry.

      • SC Dave

As you know, I’ll take him over Langford in a heartbeat

  • SC Dave

Punt coverage looking ok. Hope its not the best part of the team

  • 3rd and 2. Pass, of course.

    • King of DBB

      butt fumble to shaheen

    • SC Dave

Shaheen with the drop. Share the wealth.

  • oh, Jackson showed more ball skills on that one play than Amos in 2 yrs.

    • King of DBB

How about Skuta? A white linebacker from Grand Valley State.

      Waffle, calm thyself

  • Sactowns#1

Buttfumble in for Baby Giraffe. Steady diet of handoffs coming.

    • Bender McLugh

      Hopefully

  • willbest

    Sanchez with the block

  • The Jet!
    Loved that signing.

  • Malice Halice

So I guess Glennon is done for the day. My grade is a D-. His first play killed any chance of me ever liking him at QB. That first play got hella GM’s turning away from him I bet.

    • King of DBB

I am on the Butt Fumble bandwagon as of now

      • Bender McLugh

        plenty of room

        • King of DBB

          Mark Sanchez AS
          Joseph Gordon-Levitt AS
          Edward Snowden

      • EnderWiggin

Dirty looks better in every category…
Probably because he’s not nervous. Glennon, on the other hand, has a ton of weight on him.

  • Odonell with 2 pins thus far? Hmmmm

How many drops is that thus far? 5?

  • Haha. When Amos hits you, you feel it.

    • King of DBB

      Skuta for 2!

      • How could they not cue the Stuka sirens when he makes a play!

        Give whitey some love!

        • SC Dave

Though with all the ink, he ai t so white

  • Sactowns#1

Can we score before the half? Please.

    • willbest

      In Barth we trust

  • willbest

We almost have too many return options noe

    • Malice Halice

      Yea we do

    • That’s what I was looking forward to.
Jackson, Cohen, Thompson and even Benny the Jet.
      Odonell has punted well.
The gunners have arrived like Carey.

SP teams looks like the most improved unit thus far

  • Malice Halice

    Da Mitch is in!

  • willbest

    Jeff just had an orgasm

  • willbest

    What a handoff, what hardcount

  • Bring the Thunder, Trub.

    • King of DBB

Grasu is a master of the gun

  • Here comes the spread quick tempo

    • SC Dave

      And evidently, no drops. Yet.

  • willbest

I might have to skip tomorrows column if trub leads us to victory

    • SC Dave

Fortunately for Trubisky, Carey is in instead of Langford.

      And Shaheen instead of whoever.

Edit: And Cruz. Damn he was open on that.

But, if the guy is *the one*, I’d be fucking elated. On the other hand, these games are meaningless.

Except, of course, to the Bronco who went off on the cart.

  • SC Dave

Broncos 36 looked like he was about to die after taking on Shaheen there.

Edit: I don’t think he knew how big the fucker he was hitting is.

  • willbest

    Who had Cruz?

  • Malice Halice

Yea fuck u Glennon! Bye felisha!

    • willbest

      Lets see trub against 1s

      • 505Bears

Saw Glennon vs the 1s..no bueno

        • SC Dave

Trub was playing with our starting slot and TE. And our best RB of the night (Carey) against 3rd stringers.

But it WAS way better than sucking in thay scenario.

          • willbest

Sims is our starting TE, I don’t know if Cruz has nailed down the slot

  • Bender McLugh

    And Jeffe wets his pants

    • Irish Sweetness

Aha. Remember, pre-season is meaningless, Bender. That TD pass from Mitch to Cruz did not happen in actuality,
so Jeff won’t be able to infer anything from it happening. So if Mitch throws another 6 TD passes … it means he didn’t.

      • Bender McLugh

        lol

    • SC Dave

This game is meaningless. Except for the Bronco that went off on the cart.

  • Irish Sweetness

    Ruh roh ….

  • That’s where Trub’s read-option athleticism will be dangerous. In the redzone.
I like that Birdcage went quick-tempo spread heavy and got Trub on the move.

    Good stuff.

    • King of DBB

      looked real good.

Glennon literally looked like a cuck. Like he was watching his wife take it.

    • Malice Halice

      Great 2minute drill!

      • Birdcage actually did that with Barkley towards the end last season before he went full-Cutler, and it worked.

It’ll come in handy to change the pace of the 12 personnel Howard show.

        • Malice Halice

Yep, n it’s lookin like Carey ain’t tryin to lose his job either!

          • I loooove the way Carey runs.
            Angry and with energy.
He’s one of those HBs who WANTS contact.

            Gotta love that.

          • Malice Halice

            So that’s 2 bruisers!

    • SC Dave

Until some STARTER OLB crushes his ass

  • Fresno BearDown!

@ work how bad is it? Seen Glennons pic six. Trubiskey in yet?

    • King of DBB

Trewb looked like a legit 1st round QB and led them to a score

      • willbest

        Against #2s and 3s.

        • SC Dave

With two guys that will be ours 1s (Cruz and Shaheen)

    • Malice Halice

      It’s been some shit man

    • Damn, Fres.
      Ghost from Xmas past!

  • EnderWiggin

So, next week, I guess we do the exact opposite. Start Dirty Sanchez. Give Glennon one or two series to win the starting spot back. Then bring in the future boner to get all the reps he can.

    • Glennon is now a $16M Trub fluffer.

      • EnderWiggin

        Lol. Yes.

      • willbest

Could have had curry for less

      • Irish Sweetness

Does Pace get a pass if Glennon shits the bed and Mitch makes it?

        • King of DBB

way better than the other way around

        • Not my $16M.

        • willbest

Yes. If I don’t die in the next 17 years my wife will forgive all the money i pissed away on getting i was going to die

  • Joecashflow

Listening in Germany. Sounds like Neck is gunna get hammered tomorrow my the press. Denver radio says Chicago looks terrible…..until Mr. Biscuit. Bear down Bears !

  • Malice Halice

FUCK U GLENNON for providing the BEST DEFENSIVE HIGHLIGHT thus far this preseason! We cut Cutler for his decision makin n u tried to pull that shit off?! Against the broncos 1st stringers ?!

    • SC Dave

      Go to bed.

  • Joecashflow

At least not a donut at half.

  • Joecashflow

Got up at 3amy for this. Always a Bears fan.

    • Irish Sweetness

      My man!

  • Damarious Randall (cb) for Puke carted off.

    • Malice Halice

      Is that the rook?

      • SC Dave

        No… 3rd year guy

        • Malice Halice

Thought it was the skinny DB they drafted

  • Joecashflow

We got 1 sack. Broncos 0.

    • EnderWiggin

      Super Bowl, here we come.

    • Malice Halice

Our hurries n disruptions should be high

    • willbest

      Think we got 3

      • and Bullard with a short yd STUFF

        • SC Dave

That was the best D play, save perhals Floyd’s first series sack

      • Joecashflow

        Damn, that’s good .

  • Joecashflow

I can never get Bears radio. Always opposition.

  • Joecashflow

    Hate Bears radio anyway

  • King of DBB

Hey Irish, Timu is in there for Skuta.

  • Malice Halice

    Damn that was nice!

    • King of DBB

      that was a NFL throw

  • willbest

I will say I have seen nothing that makes me regret Pace spending what he did for Trub

  • Joecashflow

Trubisky looking good ! Please no INT

  • willbest

    Jesus slide with your feet

    • Malice Halice

Yea but damn this guy is amazing so far

      • SC Dave

        Go to bed, Jeff schill.

    • SC Dave

      At least he slid!

  • Joecashflow

    Another 1st down

    • Malice Halice

      Makin it look NATURAL

      • King of DBB

        quick feet

  • willbest

    That was nice

  • Joecashflow

    Good accurate throw again

    • King of DBB

a VERY good throw, pulling back hitting a crossing route

  • SC Dave

    Remember, its meaningless

    • Malice Halice

      FUCK DAAAT! He da truth!

      • SC Dave

        Go to bed

        • Malice Halice

          Mane u trippin

    • EnderWiggin

This is probably the most meaningful football we’ve had in about 15 years or so…

    • Joecashflow

      That’s what Neck is saying

    • ButtonShoes

Until he plays consistently with and against 1st stringers I refuse to take seriously what I’m seeing.

      • Irish Sweetness

Equally with Gummo. He’ll be fine. This is the first PS game.

        • ButtonShoes

They deserve leeway. But not a lot.

  • Irish Sweetness
  • SC Dave

Bellamy wants to make this team. He and Carey

    • Irish Sweetness

And Rueben, and Victor. Good problem to have.

      • willbest

On the flip side, Can doesnt

  • Joecashflow

    Damn. An offense!

    • SC Dave

Against 3rd stringers. And the star of second half limping off

  • Joecashflow

    Bellamy down

    • King of DBB

      just got his leg whacked

  • willbest

Glennon better not let the Chicago media get into his head or he really will be riding pine for the opener

    • SC Dave

No shit. And he may be anyway.

    • EnderWiggin

I wonder if teardrops fall harder from that far up?

      • willbest

Yes, assuming that they don’t hit terminal velocity

  • Joecashflow

    Mr. Biscuit ! 9 for 9

    • Irish Sweetness

      Ruh roh ….

  • Joecashflow

    TD. Impressive.

  • SC Dave

Damn that Proehl (sp?) is a giant sob.

    Edit: Poehls… 6’8″, 344

  • Joecashflow

Neck says it’s all meaningless, lol

  • ButtonShoes

If only we could play against the 2nd and 3rd stringers of other teams every game. Then we’d be unstoppable!

    • willbest

He is still making good decisions

      • ButtonShoes

Yeah. But I want more. A real test. Not this.

        • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

Dude, stop being such a fucking downer.
He can’t travel into the future to satisfy your need to have him play the Patriots in the Superbowl. He has to play the fucking games that they let him play.

          • ButtonShoes

            Hmm…how ’bout ‘no?’

          • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

            Just enjoy the game.

        • EnderWiggin

How can you not be excited? I’m on cloud fekkin 9 right now.

          • ButtonShoes

Because it’s the Bears, the McCaskeys still own the team, and I have every right to be skeptical.

    • Malice Halice

Regardless Mitch accuracy n decision making is undeniable. He’s do the same shit against staters IF only the WR’s get open

      • Irish Sweetness

Glennon threw the ball to the same dudes but they were dropping them.

        • Malice Halice

Maybe they get a cutler vibe from him. Regardless that one bad pass was bad enough to sum him up till the 19th

        • willbest

No he was throwing them to our presumed starting wrs

          • Irish Sweetness

I think all of those spots are up for grabs.

        • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

Different play calls for different QBs.

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Glad Glennon is our bridge QB… to bad its the Tacoma Narrows Bridge

    • SC Dave

That was good. And i dont need to video

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

the young pups around here probably wouldn’t get the reference,

  • Joecashflow

Trub taken any snaps under or all shotgun ?

    • SC Dave

      Mostly under center

    • King of DBB

mixed it up. he looks ok at the 5 step and step and roll

  • King of DBB

Jeff’s head will swell, but this is actually Trubisky emerging

    • SC Dave

      Both heads

    • Irish Sweetness

      1. We cannot put 18 million dollars on the bench.

      2. It is the first game of PS.

      3. Mitch doing well can only be a good thing though, if there’s a controversy, so be it.

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

        1. yes we can.
        2. good point.
        3. yep

      • EnderWiggin

        Screw that $18m.

        • SC Dave

People need to understand the concept of a sunk cost.

      • willbest

Trub is making as much as Glennon this year

        • Irish Sweetness

          Eh?

          • willbest

He got like a $16 million signing bonus

          • EnderWiggin

Most expensive QB room in the league this year – like $34 mil

  • Joecashflow

All good then. Kid gets confidence

  • Joecashflow

Amazing Bears can score at home. There’s something new

    • Malice Halice

This is a new era man, preseason or not. The atmosphere is different with that team

      • SC Dave

        Fire Fox!

Edit: Just my (M)HBP imitation, aka trolling.

        • Malice Halice

And what bring Gruden out of retirement? Ain’t too many coaches out there

          • SC Dave

Just a commenton the atmosphere change and all the calls to fire Fox

          • Malice Halice

No need to fire fox if the team is revitalize

          • ButtonShoes

The calls to fire Fox are the right calls.

        • ButtonShoes

          Damn straight. FIRE FOX.

          • EnderWiggin

Slippy, get out of here! Do a barrel-roll!

  • willbest

Defense has given up less points than the offense

  • Joecashflow

Final stats Biscuit 2 TD, Cutler 0

    • willbest

      Did Cutler play?

      • Joecashflow

        No

      • If it’s not part of his bonus, doubt it.

        • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

          Fail

        • SC Dave

That was a little cold, Butch. He’s gone now. We can safely root for him eithout havimg to fear he will Always. Be. With. Us.

          • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

Agreed. He joined his team 3 days ago. Man, we have some bitter folks on this blog.

          • Haha, I’m just fucking. I don’t care.
I don’t even remember the last MIA game I watched.
            I learned from the best

            dooooon’t caaarree

  • BearDown100393

I’m glad the kid has done well tonight but really looking forward to the spin control around here regarding the meaningless of pre-season.

    • SC Dave

This will be the most important game since the 2006 bowl come Jeff tomorrow

  • Irish Sweetness

Really Mitch should be 7/7 with 2 TDs …. looked like a TD for Rueben.

  • Joecashflow

Let’s see if presses have anything positive for a change

    • SC Dave

      Good point. Interesting indeed

  • ButtonShoes

Trubisky needs to start the next preseason game with the 1st stringers. For at least 1-2 quarters.

    • Malice Halice

      Yep

    • Joecashflow

      Won’t happen

      • ButtonShoes

        Needs to happen.

        • Joecashflow

          Foxy

          • ButtonShoes

Then fire Fox. I couldn’t give a shit about that old bum.

  • Malice Halice

Our QB LOOKED BETTER THAN WATSON!

    • willbest

That is good considering he was drafted half a round earlier

      • Malice Halice

And giving the fact Watson played more games against better people!

  • Fresno BearDown!

My hard on is strong for Trub. God I pray this won’t be premature

    • Malice Halice

      Every pass was just amazing

    • It is.
And on the flip side, if Trub had looked shaky, I’d be saying the same.

But hey, I’m smiling, so can’t complain.

    • Sactowns#1

Is this old skool Fres or a new guy?

  • Joecashflow

I’ll take a win and Trub 2 TDs

  • Joecashflow

A win at home. WTF is that ?

    • SC Dave

      Preseason

  • ButtonShoes

I’ll tell you what will bring me all in on Trubisky: if they start him against the Peckers and he manhandles them. Humiliates them the way the Peckers have been doing to us for decades. He does that, I’ll personally found the Church of Trubisky for all of us to worship at.

    • Irish Sweetness

As soon as he beats the Packers, that’s it …

      • ButtonShoes

I fucking hate Green Bay with the white-hot passion of a thousand suns. The man who destroys them utterly and totally is the one I’ll worship on bended knees.

  • Wow. Nice hold by CJ Wilson and Howard.
That’s some nice man-beef in there (that’s what she said!)

  • Irish Sweetness

Jimmy G also emerging. 22/28, 235 yards, 2 TDs, no INTs. 6 passes to a guy named Hollister for 115.

    • willbest

G is going to be a Pat next year

      • ButtonShoes

They won’t trade or cut Brady. Won’t happen.

        • Malice Halice

Nor get rid of da G

          • ButtonShoes

            So both on max salaries?

          • Malice Halice

Brady will take another pay cut

          • ButtonShoes

There has to be a limit to how many pay cuts he’ll take.

          • Malice Halice

            Not for the Pats bro

          • willbest

His wife is worth half a billion, and he makes more for advertising the dodge dart than most QBs salaries, I am surprised he doesn’t play for a pack of tic tacs

          • Irish Sweetness

            Half …a … billion …….?

This is a fucked up world.

          • willbest

            I think it’s only 350 million

          • willbest

Between the two of them they are around a half billion

          • Irish Sweetness

The dude is 40. Like Mayweather … he’ll have to accept it’s all over.

            GO ON!!!!!!!!!!

        • willbest

Brady might claim to play to 45, but the last would be stupid to get on it. Hoodie knows G has something otherwise he would have moved him

          • ButtonShoes

I’ll say this: the only coach in the history of football who could get away with cutting Tom Brady would have to be Belichick.

        • BearDown100393

          Hooded Fang: Tom?
          Brady: Yeah?
Hooded Fang: Hand in your playbook.
          Brady: WTF?
Hooded Fang: See you in Canton.

          Easy.

  • Joecashflow

    In 2 Qtrs ?

  • Joecashflow

    Keeps throwing completions

  • BearDown100393

This is a Bad Pacebot/Good Pacebot meaningless exhibition tonight.

  • Joecashflow

    Accurate passing is not meaningless

    • Malice Halice

What is his thinking man? U can’t deny Mitch talents

      • SC Dave

        Go to bed

        • Malice Halice

U can stay in your corner with your nightlight

    • SC Dave

True. Mitch has been on the money

  • SC Dave

    When do we get Shaw?

    • ButtonShoes

      At this rate? Never.

    • Johnnywad

I’d rather see Shaw than two series of Sanchez. We know Sanchez blows.

      • EnderWiggin

He looked like a HoFer compared to Glennon tonight.

        • Johnnywad

Yeah. That Glennon first quarter was bad. It’s possible the Bears burned $18M. The number was high but I completely understood the rationale.

  • Irish Sweetness

    David Fales 8/17 – 134 – 2 TDs – 1 INT (the INT was a cunt-hair away from being a TD pass)
….for the Dolphins. Fales and Cutty, eh?

  • Those pin-point out and comeback throws by Trub are NFL verifiable throws.

Those are throws I didn’t see Watson make yesterday.

    • SC Dave

Its interesting. Cutler had the arm too.

      • Joecashflow

Has. Will make this year berry interesting

  • willbest

    Goodbye cruz

  • Joecashflow

How did Cohen look ? Break any tackles ?

    • willbest

      Amazing

      • Joecashflow

        How?

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

          his uniform fit well

          • Malice Halice

            Too soon man, too soon

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

why too soon? did i miss something?

          • Malice Halice

Naw just a personal attack given the historical injuries and i pray we have a historical healthy team

        • willbest

Quick. Explosive, good cuts, and he looks like he knows when to get out of bounds to avoid the hit. He might live through the season

    • ButtonShoes

      I worry about his durability.

    • SC Dave

      F.a.s.t.

  • BearDown100393

    Cruz has a head.

  • SC Dave

    Fuck. Cruz broken.

Guess we’ll see what Trub can do without him now.

    • Malice Halice

U gone blame Mitch for that i guess?

      • SC Dave

No. Did you blame Glennon for the int?

        1) QB got hit in the middle of delivery.

        2) Ball went off course.

        3) Bad shit happened.

        • Malice Halice

Naw man you just don’t toss da damn ball in da air against a secondary like that without atleast separation. That was cutler throwing

    • ButtonShoes

He was broken before this. We got him broken to begin with.

    • unnecessarily broken.

He was not only held but also blasted in the head late.

And yes, that was another impressive throw by Trub under pressure.

  • 3rd and 17. Pfff.
    Thunder Trub

  • BearDown100393

Spin the ball is bad, decapitate the wideout is okay.

    Thanks chief.

  • Joecashflow

Bronco radio talking about Trubisky arm strength

    • BearDown100393

Just curious and not really judging but why are you listening to Denver?

      • Joecashflow

Using a radio app and can’t get any Bears radio

  • Irish Sweetness

Man, that bullet to Deonte was sweet. Stepped into it too.

  • Sactowns#1

Delay of a preseason game?! Are you fucking kidding me?!

    • willbest

      Lots to be hopeful for

  • Sheesh.
At lest they got it right.

    Gentry in.

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Trubs is looking good. He has a nice tan.

    • Irish Sweetness

And he’s a good clean boy, with good manners. I like.

Fk me. Are we really going to have an 18M bench-warmer?

      • ButtonShoes

Blame Pace for that one. There was no one clamoring to sign Glennon to any kind of contract. Pace did that to himself on his own.

      • willbest

He chose LeBron Irish…. In Chicago

  • Joecashflow

    Another strike

  • ButtonShoes

Trubisky is not playing. He’s going make sure the Bears drive Glennon out of this town on a rail.

  • SC Dave

What is wild is that after the starters brutally dropped a shit ton of passes, the backups catch everything.

Bet the receiver room will be interesting this week

    • BearDown100393

      Backups are receiving perfect strikes.

    • Malice Halice

Yea it’s fucked up, maybe they conspired against Glennon?

    • ButtonShoes

Not that I have much faith in our starters, but it was the Giraffe who was throwing to them.

      • willbest

It was falling out of their hands it’s not like he was making it hard for them

        • ButtonShoes

Like I said, I don’t really have much faith in our starters, either.

  • They’re gonna throw a fade to Gentry b4 this is over.

  • Joecashflow

    Score damn it

  • Sactowns#1

What will Fox do if Gomer Pyle is clearly better in each game but it’s against 2nd and 3rd stringers?

    • Irish Sweetness

He’ll say “coming along as expected”.

    • madscout12

What happened with Russel Wilson? Whatever that was, that should happen.

      • madscout12

Also, what happened to Dak Prescott would work for me too.

    • SC Dave

Put him in against the starters to see if it holds up.

    • willbest

I don’t see a reason for Fox to start Gomer while you still call him that

  • BearDown100393

I want a hard count executed.

    • SC Dave

      Lol

    • Johnnywad

That’s precisely when the snap fumble will occur. Plus there’s the whole “huddle thing”. It’s reallly all just hopeless.

  • Joecashflow

That was impressive. 3rd and 18, down to the 3 yd line. Good enuf

  • Was a tad low but Brown should’ve caught that TD.

    • Irish Sweetness

Looked perfect to me. His job is to catch that.

      • SC Dave

        Butch stated it perfectly

  • SC Dave

Brown just lost his job. Or at least a good chance to keep it.

I must confess, another great pass from Trub. ONLY the receiver had a chance, and all that was necessary was a difficult catch without having to get hit.

  • Irish Sweetness

Fk u Daniel Brown. Could have been 14/15 and 2 TDs (nearly had 3).

    • BearDown100393

      Braverman makes that completion.

  • EnderWiggin

Wtf did I get nervous when Barth came in? wtf?

    • Irish Sweetness

Me too. I thought, “how the fk does he miss this?”

    • haha. Barth, FF master!

He actually got better towards the end last season if I remember.

  • ButtonShoes

Looks like Michael Vick is impressed with Trubisky.

    • Sactowns#1

And he can be honest since he doesn’t have a dog in this fight.

      • ButtonShoes

        *rimshot*

  • Joecashflow

    Espn shows 1 sac….Floyd

  • ButtonShoes

Trubisky is trending worldwide for all the right reasons. Glennon is trending worldwide for all the wrong ones.

    • Luckily one is the future and one isn’t, so enjoy it.

      • Johnnywad

Except he hates Pace and all of his moves including Trubisky.

        • ButtonShoes

I do hate Pace. And I do hate the unnecessary trade-up to get Trubisky.

          • Johnnywad

And had he by some chance been drafted one slot ahead of by some team you didn’t see coming with all of your knowledge of the NFL draft rooms, and he turns out to be the real deal, you’d be bitching they didn’t move to get him.

But here we are, with a rookie quarterback having a fantastic debut, a collection of other young players beginning to show off real talent, and all this out of what was a completely broken dumpster fire of a team two seasons ago. And yet, somehow you hate Pace. That seems a bit off.

          • ButtonShoes

I didn’t want Trubisky to begin with. I was hoping the Bears would tank this year for Darnold or Allen. That said, if they’d just picked Trubisky at 3, I wouldn’t have been happy, but I wouldn’t have been completely against it.

    • Irish Sweetness

Seeing some love from Broncos fans too.

      • ButtonShoes

They’re surprised by him. So am I.

  • Irish Sweetness

I just saw that Brady has 20,000 more yards, 4 more PBs, and 1 more ring than Joe Cool. Wow.

    • SC Dave

      Montana has always been overrated

      • ButtonShoes

Montana was a pain in the ass during the ’80s. God how I hated the Niners.

        • Irish Sweetness

I hated him but respected the shit out of him.

    • BuddhaJoe

Montana didn’t have a cheating ass bullshit franchise behind him. Never forget.

          Cold as ice.

  • The Bears just let em score to show of Trub some more.

    #TrubTime

  • ButtonShoes

OK. Let’s see what Trubisky can do here.

    • madscout12

      Birdcaged.

  • Stepping up in the pocket. Still looking downfield. Then running for a 1st.
    Sweet.

    • SC Dave

      Yeah… good shit.

      But vs 3/4 stringers.

      • madscout12

Truth. But he should have dominated, and he dominated.

  • Round is too slow for that stretch run.

  • SC Dave

Shit. ST fail. And it was looking damn good for us

  • EnderWiggin

That dude is gonna be aRounds the practice squad..

    • madscout12

      Nope…first cuts. Camp body.

  • Joecashflow

Bears are going to hand a W to them. Typical 4th Qtr choke

  • willbest

    • SC Dave

      Looking like street ball

    • These guys are the scrubs.
I’d be pissed if they weren’t.

Let’s see who wants to make the squad.

  • EnderWiggin

O’Donnel celebrated his first pro-looking punt since October with a late hit.

    • madscout12

What other punter gets flagged for a late hit.

And I’m not saying he didn’t deserve it.

      • EnderWiggin

Ah, the struggles of being 6’7″ on specials.

  • Malice Halice

Time for that turnover the city been in dire need for

  • willbest

Irish get rid of your chubby

  • madscout12

Timu wants to make the team.

    • Irish Sweetness

Jump on the Timu Train, man. Plenty of room.

      PHWEEP-PHWEEEEEP!

    • that’s gonna be tough. He’s slow, so not a great ST guy, and clearly behind Kwit and Jones at ILB. If you keep a 5th ILB, it’s gotta be a ST stud.

  • ButtonShoes

So we have no legitimate defensive depth. I can’t say I’m surprised by that.

    • willbest

Those are the 3rd and 4th stringers

      • ButtonShoes

And they suck. Given how often this team is injured I wouldn’t be shocked if we ended up seeing those 3rd/4th stringers in an actual game sometime this season.

      • I don’t even think 3rd.

Timu is behind – Freeman, Tre, Kwiat, Anderson, Jones…

    • They looked damn good until the 4th quarter. That’s the top 2.5 units or so.

      • ButtonShoes

We just have to hope the starters stay healthy. And that the offense can click. And it seems the only way that’s happening is with Trubisky.

        • I’m fully not expecting them to be very good this year, so it doesn’t bother me.

This game has been great because a lot of young players have impressed, mostly in the first half (against actual NFL players). Bullard, Floyd, Cohen, Trubisky, Jackson.

          • and that doesn’t even include Whitehair (who struggled) and Howard (who barely played), who are the two most proven young players on this team.

Nobody important got hurt, lots of young players looked good. That’s a W for any preseason game.

          • Johnnywad

Well that doesn’t mesh well with the “Pace is an idiot.” narrative at all.

          • Irish Sweetness

Whitehair is still trying out (for me). He’s a second-year Center all said and done.

    • madscout12

Depends on the position. If one ILB or OLB go down, we’re fucked. There’s depth at CB and S and some at DL.

      • they played tonight without Trevathan and looked good for the top 2 strings.

    • Irish Sweetness

I didn’t feel we had the starters. I don’t see where a pass rush is going to come from outside of Floyd.

      • Young racked up 7 sacks last yr too.
And Hicks for a DE got some.
If Goldman stays healthy, and someone else steps up, like say McPhee, Bullard or Howard, watch out.

        • ButtonShoes

Can’t rely on “ifs.” I don’t have a lot of faith in a defense that needs tons of qualifiers to be considered good.

          • EVERY team right now has tons of IFs

What IF Simean and Lynch suck at QB for the Donks?
What IF the Puke can’t run or do shit on D?
What if Luck’s arm can’t throw?
What if Cam’s Oline gets him murdered again?

            All team’s have their IFs

          • ButtonShoes

And we have too many of them! I want as few as possible.

      • ButtonShoes

Hopefully Willie Young? But yeah, the pass rush looks all but non-existent.

        • Siemian dropped back 8x and was pressured on at least 3-4 of them I can remember. Unrein flushed him once, Floyd had a sack and another pressure, think Hicks had a pressure too.

But they definitely need a better edge opposite Floyd. That or OT would be top of my priority list for R1 next year, as of right now.

  • The flying Hawaiian

  • willbest

Well I know 11 players not making the team

  • Joecashflow

    Hello.

    Wow. Got our ass kicked.

    Remember, presesson is meaningless

  • Joecashflow

3rd and 22. Boom in da elevator.

  • Set up for TrubTime

and they’ll go for the 2 also

    • Joecashflow

      Or INT

  • BearDown100393

Cruz worried about his head more than the catch.

    • Johnnywad

      Makes sense

    • Jeremy Alexander

      As he should.

  • madscout12

    Catch the fucking ball.

Glennon sucked, but the 1s couldn’t fucking catch either.

  • EnderWiggin

I may have to eat my LeBlank praise…

  • willbest

His 2min could use a lot of work

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

won’t need it during the reg season. we will be that far ahead.

    • madscout12

We’ve had a lot of shit penalties this game. Better get cleaned up.

      • SC Dave

        Preseason game 1

        • madscout12

Got it. But the 1s weren’t immune to it.

  • willbest

    Boo haavad

  • willbest

Shouldn’t there have been a clock run off?

  • SC Dave

Gotta say Trub looks way smarter on the field than anywhere else.

    A good thing.

  • willbest

    Nice try

  • madscout12

Fire that man. Falls in the middle of the fucking field with 19 seconds left.

  • madscout12

Why does it seem like every other team knows the rules more than we do?

    • ButtonShoes

Probably because they do. And the reason they do is because Fox is our coach, and he doesn’t really seem to know anything.

      • Johnnywad

You mean other than the Conference Championships he won.

Jesus. You are a miserable bastard.

        • ButtonShoes

Whatever success he’s had, he had it with other teams, and not for long. Here with the Bears he’s been an absolute disaster.

          • Johnnywad

            HE. HAD. NO. TALENT.

          • ButtonShoes

            AND. HE. HAS. NONE. HIMSELF.

          • Johnnywad

You mean other than winning conference championships with two different teams.

Remind me again how many humans in history have done that.

          • ButtonShoes

Is conference championships the bar we’re going to set? I thought Super Bowls were what mattered.

          • leftcoastdave

            Ignore.

          • Johnnywad

Well there’s one of those a year. So the other 31 coaches that don’t win it have no talent?

Again. Name me the others that have been good enough at coaching to win CC’s with different teams.

          • ButtonShoes

I’ll agree there haven’t been many, and that it isn’t exactly easy to do, but I’m not really interested in how many CCs a coach has won. Lovie won one. Doesn’t mean he wasn’t a mediocre coach. I want a winner and so far Fox hasn’t been one.

          • Irish Sweetness

Who could have won with our bullshit players and the injuries from last year?

          • Irish Sweetness

Come on, he’s been to what, two SBs?

          • ButtonShoes

Yup. Didn’t do too well in them, either. Remember, this quote sums up who John Fox is: “Isn’t winning the division enough?”

          • leftcoastdave

Ok, all your comments are lame.

          • ButtonShoes

            The truth hurts.

          • Irish Sweetness

His players have been shit and injured. What would Bellifat have done last season with us?

          • ButtonShoes

Wasn’t Fox the guy who was supposed to take teams from 1-15 to 7-9 to a SB? The implication there was that he knew how to draft and develop talent. So saying that his players have been shit is just an excuse. He ought to be able to coach them up somewhat if he’s as good a coach as people are trying to imply.

          • look at the young talent. Whitehair, Howard, Floyd, Goldman, Kwiatkoski, Meredith are all 2nd or 3rd year players who have emerged already (to varying degrees). This rookie class has looked good, with Shaheen, Jackson, and Cohen all looking poised to play significant roles from day one. Other guys like Callahan, LeBlanc, Bullard, and White are going to be contributors as well, and we’ll see how they develop. And then there’s Trubisky, the ultimate wild card.

The Bears have plenty of young talent (for the first time in forever). The problem is that talent is supposed to supplement the studs in their primes, and they don’t have those (save Long and maybe Hicks). That’s why they’ve been bad the last 3 years, and why they’ll likely be bad this year. They won’t be good until the young talent has emerged and become the entrenched veterans, and then gets supplemented by a new wave of young talent. In a best case scenario, that’s 2018, with true title contention in 2019.

Now don’t get me wrong: I said the day Fox was hired he would never win the NFCN or a Super Bowl with the Bears. He is a guy who runs a good program but leaves much to be desired on game day, when he makes poor, overly conservative decisions and offers no schematic advantage. He’s a solid coach, but not a great one.

But he does have a history of hiring excellent coordinators, which we have seen already in Chicago. He also runs a clean program, which the Bears needed after the off-field debacle of 2014 (I believe this was the biggest reason he was hired).

This is and always was a massive project. They had to clean house of the malcontents (Marshall, Bennett, and to a lesser extent Jeffery). Then they had to basically build a roster from scratch, which takes time.

Fox’s job is to lay the foundation so the next guy can come in and take them over the top. That likely ends after this year, IMO, and then we can start to evaluate how he did.

          • ButtonShoes

I’d rather we get the jump on next year and just fire Fox ASAP. To put it another way, think of Fox as Dale Sveum or Rick Renteria. I’d like to get to work on finding our Joe Maddon.

          • not happening at this time of the year.

          • Trust me, I’m no fan of Fox, but which HC did you have in mind for this yr?

Also, if Trub impresses during the regular season, the Bears will be the #1 destination for the hottest coaches next off-season because we’ll boast a franchise QB and HB (not to mention Floyd).

          • ButtonShoes

I was hoping we’d take a shot at McDaniels or Patricia.

          • leftcoastdave

            I beg to differ.

They will not be bad this year, they will compete for the division and make the playoffs. Their depth is awesome and it will merely take a bit of gellin’ and fixing the O-line with either the return of KL or Whitehair to G and Grassu to C.

The D was killer until those being cut gave up 14 points.

          • I say 6 wins, give or take. Don’t trust the secondary enough and they don’t have playmakers in the passing game (passer or catcher). Glennon is meh and Trubisky (if/when he plays) will go through enough growing pains to lose some games, which is ok (better this year than 2018).

          • We do not have depth I’m sorry to say.

If Prince goes down, who’s our #1 CB?
If Goldman goes down, that’s a major downgrade
If God forbid Hicks goes down, Unrein time
If Floyd goes down, back to 2015 with Young as the main rusher
If Meredith goes down, it’ll be clown-shoes at WR.

          • DL depth is fine. Not great, but fine. Especially if Bullard emerges like he supposedly has at camp (and did tonight). That basically gives them 4 starting-caliber guys for 2.5-3 spots, plus some solid backups (Unrein, Wilson, Jenkins are ok for spot snaps).

S depth is also solid; Amos seemingly went from #1 S to #3 S, which is a solid group IMO. Bush and (maybe) HJQ behind that.

ILB depth also looks good, with Kwit/Jones as the backups. OLB too (assuming McPhee back at some point), with Young/McPhee/Houston opposite Floyd. Hell, even without McPhee, Acho/Skuta for the 4th OLB is respectable.

WR seems to have decent depth, albeit lacking in top-end talent. RB depth looks solid. QB depth too, though again lacking top-end talent. TE depth is awesome.

OL and CB are probably my biggest areas of concern right now, depth wise, but overall this roster is as deep as I can ever remember in my time as a serious Bears fan who pays close attention (dates back to 2006, when I first moved to Chicago and could watch all their games).

          • What they’re lacking is the top-shelf talent. The high impact playmakers. I feel pretty confident in Floyd, Freeman, and Howard, reasonably confident in Hicks and Goldman (if healthy). Outside of that, who is there? Need more guys to emerge from the Trubisky/Cohen/Meredith/White/Shaheen/Kwit/Jackson group.

Ideally you have 3-4 of those guys on each side of the ball, surrounded by solid talent everywhere else. I think the Bears are just about there on the solid talent, now they need 2-3 more playmakers on O and 1-2 more on D.

          • SC Dave

I’m looking to Shaheen and perhaps Cohen to be the 2.

          • Trubisky has to be one of them for them to be really good (which is why it won’t be until at least 2018 IMO).

          • You think we have Dline depth?
            I don’t.
Goldman and Hicks are head and shoulders above other guys. If either go down, it’s Unrein and whoever the backup NT is.

Bullard is an unknown. He could become great. He could become Amos. Just another guy, like Unrein.

Howard is a wildcard. He’s returning from an INJ.

And good Dlinemen (outside QB) is the hardest to replace midseason. That’s why they always get drafted high.

          • They have 2 studs, 2 potential starting-caliber players (albeit with question marks, like you point out), and another 3 rosterable guys. How much more do you want for a team that spends 60% of its time with only 2 DL on the field?

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

6 PB caliber and 2 Future HOFers

          • IMO we should’ve signed another NT/DE

I preferred Baker. He signed a 3y 15M deal. Not exactly breaking the bank. That would’ve solidified our DT/DE esp with an inj prone Goldman and a question mark Bullard.

But instead Pace is gambling that Goldman will remain healthy for the 1st time ever, and that Howard will return from his inj, and that Bullard will become more than a JAG.

That’s stupid IMO, esp since we all know games are won in the trenches.

          • It’s possible guys didn’t want to sign here to maybe not get snaps on a team that’s been crappy for a while.

Goldman will be here for a few more years, Hicks likely too. There’s only so many snaps to go around, and again, they’re banking on Bullard emerging in year 2. That’s what you have to do, count on growth from your young guys. He hedged his bets there just fine with Howard.

            Again, it’s a 2.5 man DL. 2 studs + 2 likely starting-caliber players + 3 rosterable players = quality depth.

          • But that’s a reckless trend by Pace “banking on his guys”
He banked on Amos last yr instead of getting true competition (like this yr with Jackson and Demps)
He banked on Fuller passing over Norman
He banked on Alshon, Miller, and White.

            It got us 3 wins

Dline always has attrition, and everyone knows you need a deep rotation to keep those big guys fresh.

Pace just assumes everyone’s gonna stay healthy, or that guys like Amos will become studs simply cuz he thinks so.

That’s not the way the NFL works.

          • they do have a deep rotation. He’s just not locking into guys long-term

This is a different situation than with Amos. He needed Amos to be the best S, not the 3rd best.

And he needed White to be the WR2, not the WR1. Even that ended up working out ok when Meredith emerged (tons of other WR injuries screwed them there).

Passing over Norman had nothing to do with banking on Fuller and everything to do with not throwing absurd money at a CB who only had one good year under his belt, hadn’t played in anything resembling their system, and wanted to go to a contender anyway.

Relying on Alshon wasn’t exactly a leap of faith, as he was coming off of back to back 1100+ yard seasons when Pace showed up. And even then, Pace didn’t rely on him long term.

He only relied on Miller after Miller proved it in 2015, and not adding more to that was more a matter of not being able to patch all the holes at once than anything.

He’s “relying” on Bullard to be a borderline starter this year, and if it doesn’t pan out, he has a proven starter behind him on the depth chart. I don’t understand why this is a problem.

          • Who are the “proven” starters behind Bullard and Goldman?

Unrein, CJ Wilson? a recovering Howard?

You don’t see the problem of the Bears having to start Unrein or CJ Wilson?

A “proven” starter and not a bandaid would’ve been a DT/DE like Baker or Poe.

And it WAS a leap of faith with Alshon because he ALWAYS got inj. But somehow Pace expected otherwise, like with Royal.

And now we’re hoping Meredith is a lottery ticket (that stays healthy)

          • Hicks and Goldman are the studs
Bullard and Howard are starter-quality (bit of an assumption there, but fair to say 1 should probably be)
Then Wilson/Unrein/Jenkins are all rosterable, I never said starting quality.

Hindsight is 20/20 on Alshon. He was 25 and coming off of 2 straight seasons where he played every game and had 1100+ yards. And Pace never fully trusted him, as evidenced by the lack of a long-term contract.

          • in more direct response to your question, I was saying Howard is the proven starter behind him. Howard is 28 and coming off a hip injury, which is not usually something that wrecks careers.

          • Don’t get me wrong: I’m not saying Pace is perfect. He’s definitely made mistakes, but IMO has been pretty good overall.

I still think people underestimate just how bad of a situation he walked into. This roster was old and bad, which is the worst possible combination. Throw in dysfunctional too, just for good measure.

What little talent they had was either on the decline or had to be purged, and so they’re not instantly going to have talent and depth at every position. This was always a multi-year project. He definitely had to take some risks going into seasons relying on people he probably didn’t want to (or more than he wanted to).

I think they’ve done a good job of improving the depth, though there’s still some work to do in that regard. Every team could always have better depth, it’s a symptom of free agency and the salary cap. Now the top-end talent needs to come, which means the young drafted core needs to emerge.

          • It’s not 20/20 hindsight when a player has a history of inj or ineffectiveness.

            Pace just gambles too much.

            Last season

He gambled that one of those JAGs would emerge as a stud S.
            He lost.
He gambled that Alshon would be our #1 WR last yr.
            He lost.
He gambled that Goldman would stay healthy or Bullard would emerge
            He lost.
He gambled that Fuller would be the #1CB as Porter was on his last leg
            He lost.
He gambled that Miller would play a whole season.
            He lost.

            There’s a reason it was a 3 win season.

In other spots I think he did well, like with Oline he seems to love depth there (Larsen, Kush) or ILB (Tre, Kwiat, Freeman) or OLB (Acho, Young, Houston, Floyd, McPhee)

But Dline, secondary, and WRs, he seems to just say, “fuck it”

Dline is esp mindboggling cuz we all know it starts on the lines.

          • Yeah, he had to gamble a lot. That’s what happens when you have a shitty roster. You can’t fix everything at once. He clearly left the secondary until this past offseason, with not a single major move there (he still hasn’t really made a major move). Same with TE, though that has been addressed now. DL has been addressed as well. He’s invested 2 high picks + a solid FA contract, plus several smaller moves. WR depth has improved, though that might still need to be addressed depending on how

And in a salary cap era, you also can’t prepare for the sheer volume of injuries the Bears had last year.

          • That’s the thing.
I don’t advocate for the “redskins FA” solution to sign dream teams.

But sign maybe ONE big FA to fill a gaping hole, like Norman from last yr.

If Pace would’ve signed him, that ends our “prince/cooper/porter/fuller” shit storm.

Or, if u want a mid-price Pace special, a guy like Baker or how about Pryor at WR?

He’s building through the draft, I get that, but that doesn’t mean we should become GB south.

We can still use FA to complement the roster and build depth esp given our inj history.

          • Part of what you have to realize is that this is not a team built to win now. It hasn’t been since he showed up, and won’t be until at least 2018. So while some of the decisions might not make perfect sense with a 1-year picture in mind, bigger picture they do a bit more.

Overall, I wasn’t too pleased with FA this year. I wanted Pryor, or somebody better than Wright/Wheaton/Cruz, to pair with Meredith and whatever White gives them. And by all accounts they didn’t really try there, which was frustrating. I think they’re still too confident in White, and very high on Meredith. But they did cover adequately for 2017 with a bunch of solid if unspectacular vets, and if White/Meredith don’t pan out this year, you can bet there will be improvements made next offseason. Part of the logic is giving their young guys every chance to succeed, and in a rebuild I’m perfectly fine with that.

They did try at CB in FA this year, where they reportedly went hard after the top 2 guys. They missed on both, partly because those players wanted to go to better teams offering comparable $$. That’s a downside to a rapidly expanding cap when your team sucks, everybody has money to spend.

Not going after Norman last year made sense. He wanted insane $$, which he got, had never played in a system like what the Bears run, and had only proven it for one year. It just wasn’t the right fit.

The CB move I was more upset with was re-signing Porter instead of getting Casey Hayward, who signed in SD for basically the exact same contract. Hayward was much younger and better, and played in a similar defense in GB.

I don’t think he wanted to invest long-term in another DL this year before seeing what he has in Bullard. It’s also possible FA on the DL looked at Hicks/Goldman, with Bullard waiting in the wings, and said they’d rather go somewhere they can play more. I think he handled DL just about perfectly this offseason, save for not giving Hicks an extension by now.

Like I said, Pace isn’t perfect, and I disagree with some of his moves, but I can at least see the logic in most of them.

          • SC Dave

How can you list “studs in their prime” and not include Freeman?

          • like Sitton, I think he’s slightly past his prime. Still good, but for how long?

          • SC Dave

Freeman will be starting his sixth season, JW. LB prime years.

          • he played in the CFL first though. He’s already 31.

          • SC Dave

Oh… missed that. Point granted. At least for now, however, he is our best ILB for sure.

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

is a 31 year old PED user considered in his “prime”

      • leftcoastdave

        That comment is lame.

        • SC Dave

You guys are not feeding “This user is blocked.”, are you?

  • Joecashflow

2 plays make us look like ass

  • You can’t shove a WR out of bound when the ball’s in the air.
    Da fuq they’re talking about?

  • Joecashflow

Broncos 24pts without a single play in red zone.

  • willbest

I am pleasantly surprised by Trubisky and hope to see him against Arizona’s second string

    • Malice Halice

      That’s Buddha Baker n co.

  • Joecashflow

    Biscuit 103 QBR

    • Could’ve been higher if Randal extended the football a foot and Brown caught that TD, not to mention the easy drop by Cruz and the hail mary

      • Johnnywad

That goes for every QB in just about every game. The number doesn’t matter anyway. The kid passed the eye test. Hell, he was even able to master calling plays in a huddle, and taking a snap under center. Who’d a thunk it?

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

but did we hear a Hard Count?

  • madscout12

One more game like this one, and Trubs is competing for the starting spot. It is only preseason, but Glennon isn’t exactly established. If he looks like shit next game, then that’s a trend. Guys compete for jobs. QB shouldn’t be different.

    • Exactly. He earned the chance to move up to 2nd string. If he looks like this again next week against 2nd stringers, give him some reps with the 1s in week 3.

      • It felt weird having Sanchize ahead of Trub tonight.

I know One Dump Fox is “old school” but Trub needs to get 2nd team reps.

        Who cares about Sanchize?

        • Supposedly the plan is for Trubisky to be 3rd string all year, with Sanchez as the backup/veteran mentor.

That’s bullshit. Let him at least be backup. Glennon absolutely should feel Trubisky breathing down his neck if the situation calls for it.

          • Irish Sweetness

If he’s being mothballed, then he should be at #3.

          • but that’s just it… why would you mothball the most talented QB on your roster, who you have the most invested in, if his performance is dictating that he not be mothballed?

          • leftcoastdave

Sure, he was great against the second and third strings. And yes, he earned the right to start the next game IMHO. The kid is certainly worth the price paid for him and allowing him to prove himself as was done after the first string was off the field was brilliant. Now he and the rest of the team trust him to run the show and I think he can handle the job.

Playoffs, baby!!! Pack, you got competition to the division!!!

          • Johnnywad

I loved the fact they threw Trubisky in at midfield on a two minute drill.

That’s a ballsy move with a green QB they were supposedly looking to put on the shelf.

          • yes and no. Made it natural to put him in shotgun and let him sling it around, which is probably comfortable for him.

I loved the playcalling though, especially on that first drive. A couple early rollouts with easy reads set up to wide open guys to get his confidence going.

Trubisky is deadly accurate on the run. Saw it in college, saw it tonight. That opens up all sorts of options in passing game that they just don’t have with Glennon. Also opens things up for run game, because backside defender has to respect that he might still have the ball.

          • That was the first thing that jumped out to me on his tape, that he can throw from multiple platforms.

He makes weird angles look easy with a flick of the wrist.

high-quick release too, always looking downfield.

          • definitely saw some signs of inexperience tonight (2 batted balls, delay of game penalty), but all the tools that made him the #2 pick were right there on full display. Excellent mobility, good arm, outstanding accuracy, and he throws great on the run. That’s just about the ideal toolkit for an NFL QB.

          • Johnnywad

There’s no way that’s the plan. What gets printed and what happens are often two different things altogether.

          • I’ve never thought that seemed realistic either, but multiple beat guys have stated firmly this week that was the Bears’ stated plan.

          • Johnnywad

Can’t be after they watched that game.

    • Jeremy Alexander

Yeah, I don’t get the coddling of Glennon. People are acting like we’re easing a beloved 15 year starter and superbowl winner to the old folks home in favor of a young talent. I didn’t know Glennon existed until they signed him and I could’nt care less if he ever sees a start in a Bears uniform. Mitch showed exactly the kind of poise and presence you expect out of the 2nd pick of the draft and even after one game, it’s clear he’s the future.

      • Irish Sweetness

But we’re paying him 18 million dollars! I don’t give two shits for Mike Glennon, I like Mitch, but we’re paying Mike to start.

  • ButtonShoes

I’ve seen all I need of Glennon. I want to see what Trubisky looks like with the starters.

    • Fresno BearDown!

Copy that! Fuck Glennon he was never meant to be the future. Time to see if our 1st rounder is legitimate or a bust.

  • Where are all those fucktards who booed Trub at the Bull’s game now?

    • Johnnywad

      Bitching about something different.

    • ButtonShoes

I think they were booing Trubisky because they wanted to boo Pace, and couldn’t, so they booed him instead.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

      posting as ButtonShoes.

      • ButtonShoes

I wouldn’t have booed Trubisky. I sure as hell would’ve booed Pace.

  • Malice Halice

Well pace I must apologize for my reaction during the draft. I was able to humble thyself within the hour, but Ryan Pace I APOLOGIZE! You have done a great job with our picks (besides Langford)

  • beninnorcal

Jeff was right. Glennon was awful, Mitch was fantastic. My apologies, blogfadder.

    • Johnnywad

All true. But are we going to bury Glennon after a quarter of play? Seems a little drastic.

      • ButtonShoes

Yes. Because we can add this to the rest of his body of work at Tampa. Where he sucked just as much as he did here.

        • Johnnywad

You’re wrong about pretty much everything. So I’ll note this and file it where it belongs thanks.

          • ButtonShoes

Nah, my skepticism with regards to this team is always warranted.

          • leftcoastdave

            Stoopid. Ignore.

          • ButtonShoes

Just going to plug your ears and scream “LA LA LA LA LA” as loud as you can so you don’t have to hear the truth, eh? Well, I guess that works for some.

          • Johnnywad

Skepticism is warranted. Your particular brand, where even success is painted as failure, is not.

          • ButtonShoes

Where has the success for this team been the past few years? Because I struggle to see it.

          • Johnnywad

I know you do. Don’t worry about it. They could win the Super Bowl and you’d bitch that it wasn’t by enough points.

If you can’t look at the product on the field and see remarkable improvement in key areas since Pace arrived, then you’re beyond hope. It takes a while to turn an entire roster around. And it’s happening, despite your opinion to the contrary. But I suspect contrary is pretty much where you live.

          • ButtonShoes

With this team, contrary is all I’m willing to give them. I used to have an uncritical, all-in mindset with this team not too long ago, and they beat it out of me. It’s on them to make me a believer, not the other way around.

          • Johnnywad

I can understand that. But your posts are completely irrational. Try being subjective. The arrow is most decidedly pointing up. This will likely be another bumpy season but better than the last with more to be excited about next year. You shouldn’t be shitting on Ryan Pace. He’s trying to undo more than a decade of incompetent player acquisition. That ain’t easy. And say what you will about Fox, but he’s been successful. And it is also widely assumed he’s a place holder during the rebuild. So perhaps consider not demanding perpetual trips to the playoffs in the interim and see the situation for what it is.

If Pace hit on Trubisky, which is a huge IF, everything changes.

          • ButtonShoes

If he hits on him, I’ll take back a hell of a lot of the bad things I’ve said about him.

And if Pace fires Fox really soon, that’ll go a long way towards warming me up to him, too.

          • SC Dave

It’s funny seeing you argue with “This user is blocked.” johnny.

          • Johnnywad

            Probably looks like shadow boxing.

          • ButtonShoes

So many people afraid of the truth these days!

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

you are just another idiot claiming to preach the truth. There is a guy that stands on corner down the street claiming he preaches the truth, should I listen to him too?

      • madscout12

Nope. But if becomes a trend, then it should happen like Russell Wilson and Matt Flynn.

On April 27, 2012, Wilson was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the third round (75th pick overall) of the draft.[62] The Seahawks endured significant negative criticism for their selections in the 2012 draft, and for picking Russell Wilson in particular as the Seahawks had just signed free agent Matt Flynn.[63]

Wilson signed a four-year, $2.99 million contract with the Seahawks on May 7, 2012.[64] He made his preseason debut against the Tennessee Titans on August 11, 2012 and had his first preseason start on August 24 against the Kansas City Chiefs.[65][66] On August 26, 2012, Wilson was named the starting quarterback for the first regular season game after competing with Matt Flynn and Tarvaris Jackson for the position.[67]

        • Johnnywad

Seems reasonable to me. I pretty much assume they’re going to play whomever gives them the best shot at winning once they’ve got enough info to make an informed decision. At times, like in the case of Howard last year, the rookies need a little more time to prove themselves than the vets, due to the fact they’re known quantities. That may be the case here. Glennon will probably look better in his next start. Sanchez however, is a known quantity. I see no added value in continuing to leave Sanchez in front of Trubisky.

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

i started digging the hole months ago.

        • Johnnywad

I’m holding out hope he’s better than that. It’d be great if he was good enough to be a fringe starter and merit a trade before next season.

      • beninnorcal

I’ll guve him more chances, I still think he starts against ATL, but so far, the sample don’t look hot.

      • Irish Sweetness

This is it Johnny. The usual PS over-reactions. Trubisky won’t be that good, nor Gummo that bad. Let’s see Mitch with the starting Broncos defense rushing him.

        • Johnnywad

They threw the perfect first exam at Trubisky. Got his feet wet in a pretty intnese situation without feeding him to the wolves. Next game, make it a little harder and so we go.

  • Joecashflow

So Neck basically handed us a L in first minute.

    • leftcoastdave

No, give that to the pressure he was under and J. Leno who allowed the pressure and hit.

That said, Trub looked great, albeit against the second team. Will be great. Division to be sure.

      LOVE THAT D!!!

    • That INT seemed like miscommunication.

Someone fucked up, either Glennon or the WR cuz it looked like a comeback route but the WR didn’t comeback.

He looked rather meh anyways, but the receivers dropped a couple too.

And naturally, he was going against the first team D which is arguably the best D.

  • Malice Halice

Well I’ll b going to sleep a happy Bears fan.

  • leftcoastdave

    THE UNTOLD STORY.

Grassu back at center with Whitehair to Guard?

The O-line made Glenny look bad. The play calls were uber conservative with runs for nuttin. Sure missed Kyle and Kush. Is Grassu the fix??? Will Kyle be back???

Great to see and will be fun to watch.

    • I’m worried about that LG.

Long is done imo. Kush is out for the yr.

We started Compton and got no push.
Grasu was horrendous when not inj.

We need a LG if we’re expecting to ground and pound.

      • leftcoastdave

Whitehair is the LG. Grassu looked good at center.

        What do you do?

Move a pro-bowl C to G if you have a decent backup, or keep your pro-bowl C where he is and have a lame (no disrespect intended to Kyle) LG? Ie., either hurt or crap?

Grassu and Whitehair might be the answer.

        • Grasu is going to HAVE to be the answer at C, which makes me cringe.
Or Compton will have to be LG.

Barring that, we would have to cross our fingers about Long returning, or signing some old vet no one else wanted.

          • SC Dave

It’s a little early to tell on all this, and I hope you’re wrong.

      • Johnnywad

Man I hope Long isn’t done. That would really suck balls.

        • SC Dave

The team (i.e. staff) has been saying the target is opening day for Long for some time now. Let’s hope he can still be the Kyle we knew.

        • willbest

Considering we are paying him for the next 3 years, yes, yes it does.

      • Irish Sweetness

Whitehair to G, Grasu to where he was drafted to play on the first place.

        • Johnnywad

Not sure Grassu has it. Didn’t look that good before the injury.

      • ButtonShoes

Long is not done. He’s no quitter. And if we’re stuck with Grasu at C, we are screwed.

        • Irish Sweetness

No. No we’re not. Give the kid a damn chance. He looked good against the Broncos and kept his pocket clean.

    • Irish Sweetness

Grasu looked good- see his legs?? Mofo looks chunky and built.

      • He should look spry.

He’s been sitting in the tub for 2 yrs.

        • AlbertInTucson

My lasting impression of Grasu was him getting run right over all too often.

          • just preseason, and just one game, but IMO he looked solid tonight. No snap issues, held up well at point of attack. 2nd string OL as a whole did well run blocking, which is impressive considering they were missing what was supposed to be their LG (Kush) and one of their OTs (Compton) played 1st string LG instead.

          • SC Dave

Gotta say I’m curious about Poehls. Can someone that big do the job?

    • SC Dave

I didn’t notice that. Did they have the two in at the same time?

      • I don’t think so. Whitehair C with 1st team, Grasu with 2nd.

“John Fox can say whatever he wants but if this continues between Glennon & Trubisky, things will change. His job is on the line. #Bears”

    Yup.

    • Johnnywad

And there it is. Aaron Leming. I knew I knew you.

Reminder from a few years ago. Nobody. Literally nobody here gives a single fuck what Aaron Leming has to say.

      • ButtonShoes

Well that’s fine, since his endless, unjustified optimism grates on me, too. But on this one single thing he’s not wrong.

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

throw enough shit out there you are bound to hit something you are aiming at.

      • SC Dave

“This user is blocked” is not relevant, but knowing it would cite lemming is more than enough to know I made the right decision with the block.

Too bad the Clown cuntbag is too much of a fucking loser to get an account so we can block his pathetic ass too.

        • Johnnywad

          An apparently prudent move.

    • leftcoastdave

No bout a dout it. Jeff will be swaggin his butt. But the kid is showing his stuff and Jeff will be showing him off as if he was his son and he was his coach who taught him everything he knows.

      • Johnnywad

        And he should.

        • SC Dave

No, he shouldn’t. This was just a meaningless preseason game.

          • Johnnywad

The talent was obvious despite Jeff’s years of soap boxing on the meaninglessness of these affairs.

There was definitely enough there to be excited about.

We’ll see what happens when he finally gets to start real games and the league begins to compile film on him.

          • SC Dave

And hopefully, he’ll impress the shit out of us then too. I have NOTHING against Trubisky being a star.

        • beninnorcal

My hat is off to Jeff, he was so sure.

    • ButtonShoes

It’s one of the few things Jeff’s right about. If Mitch is good enough to be picked 2nd, he can start and should.

  • leftcoastdave

Second biggest untold story behind Grassu:

    Langford is bye bye.

Carey played great on special teams and Langford is on the sidelines with an ankle.

Can da Bears carry Cunningham and Carey or will both Carey and Langford go?

    • Johnnywad

I think Carey sticks for his special teams play

    • Benny the Jet had a GREAT game. Arguably better than Cohen.

Carey looked good too, esp on specials, but I doubt the Bears will carry Howard, Cohen, Benny, Carey and Burton AND a 3rd QB.

      Math doesn’t add up.

      • not to mention 3-4 TEs.

Carey/Cunningham will be an interesting battle, and an important one, because they’re not making Cohen a 20 carry guy if Howard goes down.

If I had to bet, I’d say Cunningham, because Carey is always getting banged up (including tonight).

        • leftcoastdave

I think Carey plus Cunningham with Miller moving on to greener pastures and da Havad kid on the practice squad.

        • willbest

Howard is a lock for the team, if he comes out flat a few more times though he might find himself in a legit timeshare

          • leftcoastdave

He wasn’t flat, it was the O-line and why grind him with that reality?

          • willbest

Cohen got some reps with the first string o-line and he did things.

          • leftcoastdave

More reps to be sure and not just two zone blocks between the tackles.

          • that’s because they want Cohen getting NFL experience, and to see how he does against actual NFL defenses. They know what they have in Howard.

          • they gave him like 2 carries and then pulled him off the field. Standard preseason treatment for a star running back. Saving him for the season.

He was 2nd in the NFL in rushing yards and 1st in YPC. He’s not in a timeshare.

          • There’s plenty of room to get Howard 20 carries per game and Cohen 10-15 touches. Let him return punts, that’s 3-5 right there. Give him 5-10 carries + catches too. He’s 185 pounds, pure complementary back. You give him the ball just enough for him to break a big play or two without having to take a ton of big hits.

        • AlbertInTucson

Carey went out with leg injury, no?

          • He returned.

          • leftcoastdave

That was the penalty on the low block on the kick return if I recall. He was always near the ball on special teams which is why I think he will stick.

      • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

As every year, Carey is going nowhere. He is a Fucking warrior. He will die on the field….rise from the dead and then line up for kickoff return.

    • SC Dave

Kiss Langford goodbye, and don’t look back.

  • willbest

I will make 1 note about Glennon’s time under center. We had a 10 minute down pour come through during his time. I suspect the wet ball lead to some drops and the bad snap.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

according to the San Diego zoo Giraffes do not like rain.
      http://blogs.sandiegozoo.org/2014/10/14/who-likes-rain-giraffes-rhinos-or-elephants/

      • willbest

Did you go looking for that after you read my comment, or have you been studying Giraffe’s since march and knew where to find that?

        • leftcoastdave

Been saving it for the right occasion?

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

I typed “Do Giraffes like rain” into google and looked at the first post

  • leftcoastdave

Which safety or safeties blew the coverage on the TD pass? I saw Hall on the field but he appeared to be playing CB.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

all of them. Even the ones on the bench were looking at some chick in the 3rd row who was having a wardrobe malfunction.

    • DHC and Prosinski were on the field. AKA players #6 and 7 at a position where you keep 4-5 guys. Neither will sniff the roster, as both are clearly behind HJQ, who’s on the bubble.

      • leftcoastdave

I am surprised Hall was not on the field more. That might actually be good for him as the bubble dudes were getting the time.

        • they played him at CB in the 4th, while those 2 did S. That was interesting.

If they have a roster jam of QB/RB/WR/TE to keep more than usual, it’s possible they want him as the last secondary guy to be a hybrid CB/S, depending on what injury needs might require?

          • I think it was Fangio who said that a CB/S is extremely valuable because it saves a roster spot, esp if he plays specials.

So Hall has that going for him. He’s just gotta prove he can do either adequately.

          • leftcoastdave

Yep. I think Hall would make a great FS with his size and range but you have to give the time to EJ. Also loved to see how EJ handled the ball on punts.

          • SC Dave

Between Thompson, EJ, and Cohen, the battle for PR is looking interesting. Almost an embarrassment of riches.

Though compared to Hester, likely penury.

          • they’ve only been working Thompson as KR, I believe. Jackson and Cohen competing at PR.

      • SC Dave

Prosinski dropping that INT won’t help his cause.

        • honestly he has no shot at the roster no matter what he does. It would take at least 2, maybe 3 guys in front of him getting hurt.

Too many guys who are younger and better.

        • AlbertInTucson

It hit him in a bad spot?

          • leftcoastdave

It was a deflection off the receiver and he had little time to react.

  • SC Dave

Fack! I’m up this late over preseason? What a silly boy!

    Good evening, gentlemen.

  • leftcoastdave

Takeaway: This was a great game. Sure, with KL out it looked like old times with the pick six to start the game, but thereafter the D dominated the game until the scrubs gave up two T’s in the fourth. EJ shined, Tarik the Freak had a couple of moments with limited time, Shaheen showed up nicely, Bullard impressed, Kwik was solid and then the Kid looked great.

This was preseason. This is what we wanted to see with the bubble boys getting lots of time and the core looking mostly damn good.

    • SC Dave

The offensive line play against the Bronco #1s was NOT encouraging.

  • AlbertInTucson

It was preseason yes, but, it looked better than a lot Bears preseason games recently.

Main thing the rookie showed ME was pocket presence.

I think that’s something you either have or don’t have.

    • Irish Sweetness

The footwork looked good for kid who admitted he had problems with footwork.

    • SC Dave

It will be interesting to see him do it against the full speed guys.

  • AlbertInTucson

    LOL.

    White Sox sweep the Astros.

    • AlbertInTucson

Prize prospect, Moncada, homers in the 9th to tie it
and then gets a walk-off single in the 11th to win it.

      • CanadaBear

I hope the Sox travel the same road as the Cubs. It would be great to have two good MLB teams in Chicago at the same time.

  • Irish Sweetness

Let’s not bury Glennon prematurely, that was the Broncos #1s.

Likewise let us not exalt Mitchell just yet, that was not the Broncos #1s.

Who do they pick at receiver though?

  • SC Dave

    New thread.
