      • he’s fun to watch a game with. bunch of bears bars in nyc, but i go to josie woods because of him and his little crew.

I’m going to email him right now to ask that he punch you next time he sees you

          • if he remembers that request come january, all the power to him.

            Oooohhhh, tough guy.

            FIGHT!!!

          • big words from a man hiding on a beach on the wrong coast.

            Hahaha… Come at me bro!

      • Theodore Phillips Anus (GP)

I get the impression there is only one Jeff Hughes.

It’s not like say, Johnny Carson, where the guy on camera bears no resemblance to the guy off.

      Nice Tits

  • Theodore Phillips Anus (GP)

It sounds like Adam was in a cave.

    • MB30SD

thanks for mentioning it. I won’t be listening to the silly CD love. smfh.

      • SC Dave

He’s misunderstood, especially by you, MB.

        • MB30SD

          I hate you.

    • Sauron’s right eyeball

CD will likely get a ring to boot. Oh the injustice of it all.

      • Theodore Phillips Anus (GP)

Super Bowl MVP! (That was funny)

        • Sauron’s right eyeball

          Down goes Rogers?

          • Johnnywad

Rodgers goes down all the time. Mostly on Clay Matthews but he’s not picky.

        • SC Dave

He can break Rodgers in half. The only acceptable scenario for a Patriots SB win, and then only barely

        • Irish Sweetness

If he was in the SB and had a forced fumble and a couple of other stats …. he could win that.

    • DaBearsBlog

Alshon wants to be Bear. He also wants to be much richer than. He’s going to be.

      • SC Dave

He needs to decide, and ignore what his fucking agent wants.

Alshon guaranteed a Super Bowl win. I expect a fucking MONSTER season from him.

        Alshon, top WR in NFL
        Howard, top RB in NFL.

        Defense, top 6.

        We win it.

        That is all.

  • Theodore Phillips Anus (GP)

Jeff’s playoff picks (with GP notes):

Oakland beats the spread and wins (I agree here)
Detroit gets bombed by Seattle and Seattle covers the spread (this is wrong, Detroit covers)
Miami covers the spread but loses (Correct)
Giants to cover the spread and picks Giants to win (Packers will win and it won’t be close)

    • MB30SD

Well, you just said you wanted a lambo GP… not a specific model: http://uncrate.com/stuff/1955-lamborghini-dl25-tractor/

      • Theodore Phillips Anus (GP)

        Nice.

    • Irish Sweetness

I think you’re right on the first three. What’s the spread on the Giants?

    • Captain Obvious

Oakland is getting thrashed. Houston has the top defense in the playoffs. A top defense at home has never lost a playoff game.

Oakland is starting their #3 QB against the top defense in the playoffs.

They will neither win nor beat the spread.

Hope everyone remembers I called only one playoff game wrong last year. One.

      Captain out.

Leno (euch) – Sitton – Grasu – Long – WH.

He’s 6’6 isn’t he? He played tackle in college didn’t he?

Get your best players out there. If Grasu can take over Center, and he was our Center, then WH to tackle allows us to replace Massie. Sweet. Keep Larsen for Center emergencies and general dogsbody. WH could take over as backup center and play RT. Absolutely. If you just tell him.

          • MB30SD

  • BerwynBomber

“DaBearsBlog @dabearsblog How many coin flip games Detroit win? 6? 7? If they lose 1, they’re out of playoffs. Do they still keep Caldwell? Don’t get the hurry there.”

Why not? Caldwell is 27-21 at DET and has guided them to the post-season in two of his three seasons.

Moreover, in between their first and second playoff appearance w/ Caldwell, their team lost two potential HoF players near their respective primes (Megatron and Suh), a once stud interior DL guy (Fairley), their best LB for season and a half (Levy), two of their three RBs (Bush and Bell), and oh, their OL was one of the worst in football the first half of ’15.

So why wouldn’t the Lions give the guy a vote of confidence (and another year) before their playoff game?

Hell, if Fox achieved similar results with us, we would be calling him the next Ditka or some such nonsense.

    • beninnorcal

Well-said, Berwyn. But the Lions will Lion there way out of the playoffs in short order. They almost managed to do that before the playoffs started.

    • BuddhaJoe

Because his decision making makes Fox look like a genius. He’s not good, seriously. Being in western Michigan and having a fiancee that’s a Lions fan I see every game and he sucks. He got bailed out by decent coordinators and Stafford playing out of his mind this year, instead of being a even more spastic version of Cutler.

    • SC Dave

I posted a couple days back that firing Caldwell would be idiotic, and hence Detroit might just do so.

  • Theodore Phillips Anus (GP)
    • MB30SD

      YES FUCKING PLEASE @ #3!!!!

      • That Guy

Just imagine how much better that guy playing single high safety makes our pass rush. All by himself the secondary changes.

        • MB30SD

we just need a real safety back there. Someone who can become a leader of the entire dbackfield, takes the right angles, comes up in run support, and goes after the ball in the air. We haven’t had that in 10 years

          • Irish Sweetness

He was in sarcastic font there MB. Not. But you know what I mean ….

      • Irish Sweetness

(stalks the courtroom bench, back and forth, hands clasped behind back, stooping as he goes)

I put it to you my honorable friend that Malik Hooper isn’t really up for tackling oncoming freight trains .. .and maybe a bit of a jessie …..I put it to you Sir that Malik Hooper appears to have a VAGINA ….. do you concur that this is an issue with a Safety in the NFL Sir?

Nickel corner, okay. Hard-hitting free safety he is not.

        • MB30SD

    • Sactowns#1

      Only $19 a month? I’m sold!

  • I pick straight up, not against the spread. Been trying for years to go 11-0. Hit 10-1 once, but never the perfect slate.

However, hope springs eternal, so here’s the start for this years’ perfect slate:

HOU over OAK – no brainer to me. Both teams have shitty QBs, but HOU is used to winning with a shitty QB, while OAK has a shitty D and is used to outscoring people.

PIT over MIA – Big Ben vs. Matt Moore. Tough call.

SEA over DET – SEA doesn’t really impress me all that much, but they’re always tough at home and DET just isn’t good.

NYG over GB – this is the only one I really struggled with. If the NYG hit Rodgers early, I think they rattle him enough to win a low-scoring affair. Still not impressed with GB as a team, and NYG D has been lights out for a while now.

Who do you think wins this weekend?

    • BearDown100393

      Houston, Pittsburgh, Seattle, Vadgers

      • Irish Sweetness

Yes BD, this is the four methinks. HOU don’t deserve it, but they have the defense.

        • BearDown100393

Heart says Oakland. Head says Houston.

    • Sactowns#1

I like picking against the spread, so in that regard I will take Oakland, Detroit, Miami and NY. I know not all 4 underdogs will hit so I wouldn’t parlay it but I think 3 out of 4 will hit.

      • Irish Sweetness

        This.
        Gives you 8-1. Nice.
Need four bets though to cover the perms so it’s really 4-1. Still a nice hit.

    • MB30SD

with you data… especially the last one.

If the gints don’t win, no one will beat the cowboys. and fuck both the packers AND the cowboys

    • That Guy

I agree on all four counts. This feels like one of those years that the Giants make post-season surge.

    • Agree about HOU and OAK. I HATE the Texan’s style, but ur rational is sound. Sad I couldn’t see what Carr could do in the playoffs.

PIT over MIA, but closer than some expect. MIA does have a strong run game, but might have to be abandoned early.

SEA over DET. Yeah. Curious if SEA will try to finally get a run game going, or if they’ll finally give up and say screw it, Dree Brees style.

NYG over GB, but this is perhaps more wishful thinking.
Much like with Cutler, never know WHICH Eli will show up. If it’s bad Eli, those extra possessions for Vadgers will be enough.

Still, god I hope GB loses.

    • BerwynBomber

I don’t know if elite QBs (like Rodgers, Brady, Brees, Wilson, R-berger) get “rattled”. Hell, I don’t even think guys like Eli and Flacco get rattled, but pressure forces them off their spots and makes them dump the ball quicker. Or it can result in sacks and even TOs, of course. None of that stuff is good for a QB or his offense.

The other thing NYG has going for them is their secondary, which has been arguably the best in the entire league this year. Some have Collins winning the league’s DMVP this year and their two CBs — Jenkins and Rogers-Comartie — have had PB-worthy seasons.

The only secondary I can imagine still better than NYG is DEN’s, though KC’s and SEA’s aren’t shabby eiher.

P.S. Agree with your picks, but for some reason (a hunch?) I think DET gives SEA a game.

      • Irish Sweetness

Kizer might do that. Rather than wait for the open receiver Like a Vadgers, he’ll be off like a march hare.

        1. He’ll get fucked up in the NFL doing that.
        2. It doesn’t promise you an effective offense when your QB’s instinct is to scoot when threatened. I’ve never watched him play outside reels though, so …

    • Irish Sweetness

That might get you 2-1 Woodsy, and the Gods of betting will dictate at least one of those is fucked. If you’re hitting 10-1 odds then I want to be your friend / receive constant updates etc. If you bet each game you’re rich. That’s a dream ratio in single match high stakes betting.

    • Bender McLugh

Big Ben is STILL way better than Moore, come on now

    • Bender McLugh

agree with all except OAK wins, it’s their year to lose a heartbreaker but not in the first round

      • Bender McLugh

oh what the shit, Carr is out??? yeah Houston wins

        • CanadaBear

Wow, you rolled over without a whimper.

          • Bender McLugh

hahaha facts have a funny way of things

      • You think a team with one of the worst defenses in the NFL is going on the road in the playoffs with their 3rd string QB making his first career start and winning? That’s bold.

        • Bender McLugh

yeah, didn’t know tha facts. with Carr they win

  • Sactowns#1

I think I have the inside scoop on who the Bears will be drafting this year. The guys a stud, I mean a total physical freak. He’ll most likely have the fastest 40 and cone drills in the combine. He’s also able to bench like a beast. What position does he play? Well, he’s never actually played football before. He was discovered on a beach in Sau Paulo a few months ago, playing frisbee in the background of someone’s vacation video. The scouts loved what they saw and the Bears org is sure they can outsmart everyone else in the draft and pick this guy up before anyone else knows he exists.

    • beninnorcal

Don’t forget that he can jump out of a pool.

      • Irish Sweetness

        The benchmark of men.

    • Irish Sweetness

Love to see us draft a Mike in the second. Especially in a trade down scenario. Get a DE, S and ILB with your first three picks. Get that CB you rated so highly in the fourth. OT in the fifth. Pace thinks Langford’s injury caused his sub-par performance this season – meaning he’ll be healthier/better next season, I guess. Ryan? Really?

    • BearDown100393

Please tell us he can also jump out of a swimming pool.

  • From previous draft talk thread/s

    1. Browns – Garrett
    2. 9ers – Kizer
    3. Bears – Allen (or dark horse like Mahomes)

If Bears draft Allen, then they’ll absolutely attack “their” QB to move up.

But in spite of ‘bad qb class’ I think the Browns, 9ers, Jets and one other team (Maybe Bears late in 1st) will draft QBs in first rd.

Just a matter of which QB is Pace’s target.

    • Johnnywad

      Huh?

McPhee (he WAS healthy), Hicks, Trevathan, Freeman, Sitton, Royal, Alshon’s staying (he’s already guaranteed a Super Bowl).

What are you talking about? Pace has had no trouble bringing in quality Free Agents.

      • I like Pace’s FAs, but which WR can be brought in next FA class to be a #1?

The only possible other option is maybe Pryor (who comes with his own baggage and doubts).

Alshon will likely be the best WR to hit FA.

So Bears will likely be downgrading if they let him walk (nothing really to do with Pace, just the market)

We can likely get a serviceable #2, but that’ll also likely hurt our O, and therefore, chances of winning in 17.

        • That Guy

The one thing with the WR market is that next year and the year after will be very active. That’s the year when all those 2014 draftees will hit see their rookie deals expire. ODB and the other first rounders will likely be mostly optioned for a fifth year, but there was a lot of quality after the first round as well.

I imagine most will resign with their teams, but there will still be a lot of activity.

          • And those guys will likely be at best Alshon level or if better(like ODB) ask for the moon.
Might as well lock up our own homegrown.(as long as he can be cut in two yrs w manageable cap ramifications)

        • Johnnywad

I think he’s going to sign Alshon. But if not, I’m over it. He’s talented, but hasn’t done shit for two straight seasons. The offensive line (when healthy) and run game will compensate if they lose him. If he leaves, I’ll cross my fingers White doesn’t suck.

But I’m not going to pretend like the season is over if he’s gone. He hasn’t done much since Marshall left.

Perhaps Pace will take my guy Corey Davis if he’s still there in round two and Alshon leaves. Though I doubt it.

          • SC Dave

            I like Corey AND Alshon.

          • Yeah, but why waste a a very high 2nd unnecessarily ?
Let’s say we draft Allen and Mahomes or stud S -CB fell to the top of the 2nd?
We’ll all be wishing we had paid Alshon on that clock

          • Johnnywad

            Plenty of variables for sure.

        • willbest

DJax, Garcon, Kenny Britt, Aiken, Floyd, Quick, Pryor, Woods

That is the list of names you would conceivably want in your starting lineup. You are really banking on Meredith to develop or White to do something though.

          • Exactly. I see major flaws with all of them, from a slowing, and greedy, Djax – to a “one yr wonder” in Pryor, or other stuff like inj prone, smallish, inconsistent, etc

I would prefer Alshon over them precisely because I do not want to rely on china doll White, or some UFDA.

Would’ve been great if White blew up this year. Saved us a bunch in cap, but as the saying goes…if my uncle had tits.

Can’t afford to whiff on WRs. We all saw the clown show of drops late season. NO QB can win with that.

    • Irish Sweetness

If Mahomes is drafted by us in the three spot (rather than trading down in the first and gaining a second and next year’s first? I’ll meditate my soul out of my body over to Chicago and attack him like a chimpanzee. Wipisana style.

      • MB30SD

        OK, that was pretty funny

  • As for the Alshon wants to, doesn’t want to…stay a Bear.

I think many of us have to re-envision who the Bears are.

    We’re now the Browns.

    Teddy is still in town.
    Albino Lovie still in charge.
    Still a 3 win team.

What does this mean? This means we’re going to have to do what bad teams do.

Overpay good players like they’re great players just to wade water and not drown.

If that means paying Alshon close to Julio $, so be it (it’s gotta be less, and preferably cuttable after 2 seasons).

It’ll suck – like that year Cutler was getting paid more than Vadgers, but the alternative would be worse – needing to waste a high draft pick OR overpay another Royal type in FA OR crossing fingers and hoping a UFDA guy like Meredith doesn’t revert (remember Mark Anderson?)

This roster is just so deplete with talent, can’t really afford not to (as long as Alshon REALLY does want to stay).

Throw the bank at Berry (this will also install some MUCH needed energy and optimism into a down team) and a Massie-level CB, then take it form there in the draft.

    • MB30SD

have to agree about the browns comment. sad.

    • BerwynBomber

This is why I brought up the “Lions retain Caldwell for another year” news the last couple of days. On one hand, yes, SCD makes a decent point that it would be typical Lions to fire a successful HC.

But on the other (and this relates to your post), I find it sadly amusing that DET apparently now has higher standards than we do. They have to think about retaining an HC who has gone 27-21 in three years and gotten them to the playoffs in two of those years. Where, apparently, it is a no brainer for us to retain a guy who went 9-23 his first two years with us and piloted us to our worst ever 16 game season record.

P.S. I’m on the fence about Fox, but the underlying, comparative irony of that Caldwell news I couldn’t ignore.

      • SC Dave

        Hell of a sad point.

      • BearDown100393

Jim Caldwell would have went winless dealing with POX’s injuries.

    • BuddhaJoe

Nah the Browns are the Browns, stuck in a morass of shit, The Bears are just digging out of a smaller pile caused mostly by Emery. They bottomed out this year but they were in most games, and more growth from the youngsters will make a huge difference, plus another offseason of acquisitions.

    • willbest

As long as you are aware that Julio signed his deal 2 years ago, and things change when there is +$20 million in cap room, and just looking at the sportrac list the most money to spend in FA by the 32 teams in league history and I don’t even think its close.

Basically, Julio would be getting more than Megatron money if he was up for FA.

You saw the Von Miller, Luck, and Cox contracts. They might be top 5 players, but life is very good for all non-vet min guys these days.

    • BerwynBomber

“It’ll suck – like that year Cutler was getting paid more than Vadgers”

Yeah, that was embarrassing … especially given that Rodgers won the MVP, and Jay had one of his semi-regular 20 TDs/18 INTs years: AKA the year Jay was the highest paid QB in the league …

      … fucking Emery … SMH

      • Irish Sweetness

Should players be paid depending on how good they are? What did Jordan Howard make this year? He should make 9.5 million next year all of a sudden? How would that work?

        It’s a game of contracts.

        • SC Dave

They should give him a raise.

    • BearDown100393

It will be worth the dough when Alshon backs up the talk next season.
      And he will.

  • How about this, Irish?

Fire Fox, promote Fangio to HC, bring in Wade Phillips to DC?

    • MB30SD

      boom!

    • That Guy

If I was going to fire our entire staff right now, my dream team would be Dave Toub as HC with Wade Phillips and Gary Kubiak as the coordinators.

But I think this group will be fine. I’m still drinking the Kool-Aid despite our picking third in the draft.

    • Irish Sweetness

I was just thinking about that. The McCaskeys don’t pay two salaries. Nickels and manhole covers. Fox and co are here for as long as their contracts say they’re here.

      • Big Mike

Not true. The cheap tag has been proven inaccurate repeatedly. They ate Lovie Smith’s last year. Ate some of Trestman’s contract as well

        • MB30SD

He wants fails to start Mike grain of salt lad

  • Ugh…just getting to the end of the interview.

Shea pass to Bennett for game winning SB TD. Vegas odds?

    • MB30SD

      I hate you

  • Another waaaay to early speculative add – Mario Williams – for vet min or VERY modest contract?

By most accounts, he just quit, but we desperately need bodies at DE.

    Maybe. He’s 32.

But before u say, “Hell no!” what would you say if the Pats got him for cheap?

Something to ponder for the next, hmmmm, 3 months..

    • BuddhaJoe

When are you gonna get rid that Conte avatar, jesus. Put some boobs up there or something, fuck.

      • MB30SD

He won’t till we get rid of Cutler… You don’t think I’ve already asked?!?

        • BerwynBomber

          Stay strong, Butch!

        • Irish Sweetness

I think he’ll have a great year MB. His best. Enjoy the ride!

          • MB30SD

            Hahahahahahaha… Where, in NY???

Care to wager? We’re talking 16 games right? Didn’t think so.

    • CanadaBear

He’s quit on his last two teams. No thanks.

    • Bender McLugh

      Pats get erryone for cheap

  • Johnnywad

Eli’s two Super Bowls both went through Green Bay. Just sayin

    • Irish Sweetness

I think their defense will put it up to Vadgers and co. Eli has a third option, so does Vadgers. Close one. Down to the refs. As usual.

Kudos to you Jeff and esp Adam Jahns for these interviews. It’s a treat for me. Most of the Chicago media suck moose wang but Adam is no BS and it’s obvious you guys get along. I was laughing towards the end when you were wondering if Adam’s access at the Senior Bowl would be better or worse with Fox being a HC. Good stuff!

  • SC Dave

    Just for you, MB…

I like the BS about respect from the players and the viewers. 0-2 Douchebag!

      • SC Dave

Yeah, I truly respect Tom Berman.

  • Johnnywad

I think we should all, collectively, get to coach a Bears home game.

We like good play calling including but not limited to; timely runs, Hail Marys without holding penalties, two back sets, and usage of full backs and tight ends. We like being 2nd and 4 instead of 2nd and 11. And for Gods sake no Bubble Screens.

We like blitzing and peanut punches. We hate the Cover Who? and would never do that. We like to rush more than three when the game is on the line and Green Bay needs 50 yards in 20 seconds for a game winning field goal try. We love Freeman spying on Rodgers and snapping his legs when he slips the pocket next.

We love great ST play. Barth and POD have to go. And let’s dial up that fake return Toub and Knox got jobbed out of a few years back. I like that one.

But above all else, we’ll use the challenge flag efficiently and we’ll own the goddam clock management bit. No more wasted time outs. No sir. Not on our watch.

We got this. What could go wrong?

    • willbest

Barth is 2/3 on OSK and would be 3/3 except for a phantom off-sides. I tend to prefer that than being able to kick 50+ yarders.

    • Big Mike

With the personnel we have sending more than 3 would just result in even more open Packers.

      • Johnnywad

Flip side is they’re already open anyway.

        • Big Mike

Usually a TE named Nelson who we regularly forget to cover.

Chicago Bears — Darrell Green (1987 divisional playoffs vs. Redskins)

After Joe Gibbs and the Redskins halted Da Bears’ back-to-back bid in the 1986 playoffs, Chicago was out for revenge in 1987 and looked poised for a Super Bowl return when it took a 14-point lead in the second quarter. But with the game tied in the third, All-Pro corner and NFL’s fastest man Darrell Green went back for a punt, took it, cut left and then hopped a defender, straining cartilage in his ribs en route to a go-ahead touchdown. On the Bears’ final play of the game, Walter Payton fell 1 yard short of the sticks on a fourth-down run. He would never play in the NFL again.

Green Bay Packers — Frozen (2007 NFC championship vs. Giants)

In one of the coldest games ever played (if you don’t remember, Tom Coughlin’s face does), Green Bay snuck into overtime after the Giants missed a field goal as regulation ended. The Packers won the toss and there was no doubt one of two things was imminent: a touchdown pass or an interception. The latter won out. It would be the last throw Brett Favre would ever make in a Packers uniform.

    • BerwynBomber

I’m old enough to remember that DG return. Oddly, I don’t remember Sweetness’s final carry.

P.S. Always thought Gibbs was underrated when it came to the GOAT discussions. Three SB wins with three different QBs and only one was any good: Theismann.

Though Gibbs tarnished his image slightly with his less than successful comeback.

      • Big Mike

I’ve hated the Redskins since. Also in both games the Bears lost to the Redskins, they had back up QBs playing.

  • Irish Sweetness

Further to the apparent vagina on Malik Hooker shocker …. I’ve just watched the Future on a special, private Youtube channel (for Masons).

It shows powerful running backs running either straight through Malik Hooper, or causing him to suddenly grasp a hammy or do the chicken dance anticipating contact and feeling apprehension with it.

He looks like more of a nickel in the NFL, but he’ll get started at FS and likely give up plenty of yardage on runs in his direction, when the ball-carrier is north of 220.

Not with the third pick, no. He’s not that guy.

    • SC Dave

Maybe he was just trying to preserve for the big money, but I have to agree with the limited film I have viewed, and it does not look promising.

    • Sauron’s right eyeball

No shit. Start watching film on QB’s Irish.

      • MB30SD

What. The. Fuck. Are. You. Three. Watching?!?!????!!

    • Big Mike

He’s a cover guy, ball hawk etc. Don’t know if he’s a 3rd Pick. Glad I don’t have to decide. He’s only 20 years old. Maybe room to grow.

      • Sauron’s right eyeball

        Phil Emery Special.

      • MB30SD

Mike help me out man. What are these three Philistines watching?!?

I watch the tape above and salivate. That’s our FS for 10 years man.

        • Big Mike

I watched the videos you posted. His closing speed and awareness of the ball’s flight is exceptional. He had good form and angles on the two highlights they showed of him bringing down bigger backs. So.. I don’t know.
Are we already at the part of the off season where we have to trash each other’s favorites, to promote our own.

Lots of options at 3. If the senior bowl and combine prove out for Hooker, he could be a generational type of free safety. I don’t know what the beef is about the kid. My only concern is he mature enough?

Here are nine plays highlighted by an Ohio State Football fan site. #4 shows him de-cleating an OL. He had a full head of steam, but still

          http://www.elevenwarriors.com/ohio-state-football/2017/01/78854/year-of-malik-looking-back-on-nine-outstanding-plays-from-malik-hookers-2016-season

          • MB30SD

            Yes. I do.

When the craziness gets to be just… Too much.

We haven’t had a true COVERAGE FS in a decade and we have a chance to pick up a 20 yr old kid who already looks like a star.

I’d say your one knock on maturity is a huge upside factor… Can you imagine what he’ll look like after 2 years in the NFL. He’s already 6’2″ 205 and only started one year. With the right s & c and coaching staff he could be an absolute beast

          • Irish Sweetness

No, you’re right about that, it would be nice. I think you’ve changed my mind. We’re not asking him to play SS. So, yes. If they draft him, that’s a good thing.

Reaching for a QB in any round won’t be. I can’t see Pace cutting bait on Cutty. He had that decision before, and he paid the man. Cutty didn’t regress this season, he got injured. They talked about addressing the QB position in the presser. I think that just means vet QB plus Cutty. He chose Floyd last time, and they’ll probably want to strike gold on defense with the first. Although I could see him draft Trubisky if he was on the board just as easily.

          • BerwynBomber

By all accounts Pace tried to unload Cutty when he arrived but no one wanted to eat his contract and the Bears didn’t want to completely flush $50+M down the drain. So it really wasn’t Pace who paid Cutty but Emery. Pace just had to make do with it.

          • Big Mike

Yes he could. I remember how I felt when Whitehair was available in the 2nd round. I “knew” he would be good. I was so pissed when people questioned the pick. I was like, no, no look, can’t you see, look at his technique and power., His foot speed and his “nasty”. For me it JUMPED off the screen. I spent a lot of years trying to be that good. Same for you with safeties. To me he looks good because he’s running around making a lot of plays and experts say he’s one of the best they’ve seen. But I don’t “know” he’s good because I don’t know how to analyze it down to the detail. to be able to tell the difference between the top FS in the draft and the 10th.

Good on ya brother. Did you like that 4th gif in the link I sent, where he decleated the OLineman. That’s a once in a lifetime shot for a FS.

          • MB30SD

            Yep.

I liked doing that to RBs and TEs not so much linemen. They were slow and not looking at you… No sport in that. Like shooting a lion in a cage on some farm in Texas.

          • Big Mike

I never got clocked like that. Seen it happen a lot. Just look at fallen OL teammate, say something witty like “you get the license plate?” or “didn’t see that coming did you.” Head on a swivel interceptions, teams.. can’t end up on someone’s reel.

          • MB30SD

yup. I got completely fucking ear-holed on play by a WR who cracked back on a sweep. Literally got up looking through my earhole. was awesome.

          • Big Mike

I got a DB like that one time. It was HS. Cleanest block I ever made. Launched him 5 yards. Got a penalty. Coach was livid. All front numbers, there was no “targeting rule” or helmet to helmet rule. But I didn’t even do that, it was on a punt, the play had passed me, they fumbled so I was out front on the fumble return, we had practiced this so I knew our guy would press left and cut back. I had a 5 yard run, he was coming full speed but not looking at me. I got all numbers, helmet across, hands inside. The hit was so big the official probably figured I had to have done something wrong. I was cleared in the film room on monday.

          • MB30SD

            nice. felt good right?

          • Big Mike

Hell yeah, chasing those little fuckers around on sweeps and screens, never catching one of them sucked. Finally bagging one was great. Plus you know the “oooh” after a big hit is about the coolest thing in sports when you’re the hitter and not the hitee

          • MB30SD

yep. My freshman year in college you’re on the scout team for the #1 O. We had a tackle who was 6’6 310 (huge at the time) and ran a 4.8-4.9. Dude came around the corner and I was playing SS, I was like… fuuuuuuuck.

          • Big Mike

Did he get you? I never moved that fast for 40 yards. I was 5.1 tops. But I ran close to the same speed in gear as when were timed in the 40. BTW, I never get why they have guys clocked in their underwear. Don’t you think how a guy moves in full gear might alter a race. Some guys when you put pads on them, they lose their form. Other guys it doesn’t bother.

          • MB30SD

he was good, went to the pros for a bit. He got me pretty much every time in one way or another. I’d try and dodge him or juke him, but that basically took me out of the play, so in the end I’d just take it and hold the edge the best I could. He ended up being a friend, so never tried to kill me. he was a load though.

When I switched schools and went to a smaller one to finish my career, there was this loud mouthed guard who talked massive shit. He was much smaller than the OLmen I was used to, so the week before the first game, in practice (I had to redshirt again because I came from a bigger school, siiigh), as usual he was talking shit to me (you suck, coming from XYZ doesn’t make you a big man, etc… etc…), so on the next play they ran it to my side and I filled hard at full speed and rang his fucking bell as hard as I could… gave the fat cunt a concussion and he had to sit out the first game of the season.

Coach wasn’t happy, but I was sick of his bullshit. Never said another word to me after that. soft little bitch.

          • MB30SD

            Pussy

          • Big Mike

            Hooker’s a sure bet. 🙂

          • MB30SD

Nothing is, but would much rather take a chance on him than trubinsky or kizer or even getting yet another DL, we have those and went there with our 1st rounder last year. We’ve had literally nothing at FS for 10 years.

It’s time to take a shot IFF hooker checks out as the real deal between now and getting on the clock for our pick

          • Bender McLugh

            he’s strong & wire-y

          • Big Mike

He can probably add 5-10lbs as a pro. That would put him at 6’2” 210-215. That’s plenty big.

          • MB30SD

Exactly my point below… Or above. Get him in the NFL for a couple years and we have a 22 yr old at that size/speed and hopefully is as durable as he looks to be a ballhawk and we could be set at FS for years to come.

          • Irish Sweetness

This is it, Mike. We all want the team to work out. we all want them to be great. The ad hominems don’t help anybody.

I’m pumped to see what they come up with for next season. Whatever happens.

            Go Bears.

          • Big Mike

Amen Irish. If whoever they draft turns into a 10 year player with multiple pro-bowls, it doesn’t matter what position. But we won’t know that for 10 years 🙂

So we’re all saying things with less insight than the guys who get paid big bucks. Remarkably, we’ve probably got a better batting average than Emery and Angelo at least with regards to first rounders. Shea McLellin? Kyle Fuller, (even if he turns it around that pick did not leap off the board) Gabe Carimi, Chris Williams, Cedric Benson, Michael Haynes, David Terrel.

My strong opinion, and I’ve been coming to this board for over 5 years now, is that if you’d have taken a survey on this board among the 25 or so regulars, Our first round picks would crush Angelo and Emery’s first picks. We might not have picked Kyle Long, I don’t remember his name being mentioned, but we’d have done a helluva of a lot better than Carimi, McLellin and Fuller, White would have been a push, because he’s still an unknown and I do remember some guys liking him. Same with Floyd.

          • BerwynBomber

I was against White but it was more from a PoN point of view than being suspicious of his rawness or durability. Just felt that after ’14 (when we had a horrendous D and still had Alshon, Forte and Uni as returning skilled guys) that the last thing we needed to spend a top ten pick on was a WR.

          • Bender McLugh

Cooper instead of White, if I remember the draft correctly. White needs some HGH to heal his shiz

          • Big Mike

I think there was a good debate about that, but there were guy on both sides of the argument.

          • MB30SD

You know I loves you man…

        • Bender McLugh

          THIS

        • Irish Sweetness

Didn’t say he wouldn’t be. Jut that he’s not your Atwater/Lott type of safety.
He’d be an upgrade at the position. That’s not hard.

          • Bender McLugh

            not an Atwater, totally agree.

          • MB30SD

BECAUSE HE’S A COVERAGE FREE SAFETY!!!!

And Kyle long probably isn’t a Christian okoye. No shit

    • MB30SD

      https://youtu.be/DaWtA4oPLpw

      https://youtu.be/7oyU2913awI

Yep, looks like a total pussy to me. Let’s pass on a 20 yr old kid who by all expert accounts SO FAR say he’s the second coming of a green/berry/thomas.

But you’re right the tape above proves it, he’s not only a pussy and doesn’t hit, but he’s not the prototypical strong safety type………..

This is going to sound hard, but some of it is tongue in cheek, like 3ish%…

You three are either just trolling me haaard… or are seriously mother fucking retarded??!?! I’m fucking 100% serious. You watched the tape above and went, yeah he’s a pussy who doesn’t like to hit and isn’t that good at running back his ints for scores.

You’re fucking morons. I’m serious… Dave, Trac I’m shocked man (if you’re not trolling me… If so fine ha ha motherfuckers).

We haven’t had and have been in desperate and dire NEED of a real ballhawking middle field play the ball FREE safety for a Fucking decade!!! We have a shot to pick up the best safely in the draft with SEVEN ints, THREE of them for TDS, and you two mouth breathing tards don’t like his run support?!?!

Do you two just not know what a real FS is anymore?!?

Good fucking gravy, I hope to god you two crackers are trolling me otherwise I will never read another of your posts for loss of credibility. Well, Irish you’re in negative territory there, but you’re funny and entertaining so I still read.

Please tell me you two clowns got together and decided to troll me on this one… Please.

      • Bender McLugh

if so fine ha ha motherfuckers!

      • Irish Sweetness

I haven’t seen more than a 20 min tape – I’m only going on what I saw. he doesn’t fancy it against bigger guys. If you’re looking for forced fumbles and the like. I’ve got no problem if they draft him. He’s not likely to suck.

        • MB30SD

Irish… He has SIX INTs with THREE of them returned for TDs!!!! In his FIRST year as a starter… For OSU!!!!

Dude… FREE safety… You know, what we’ve been missing for 10 Fucking years?!

    • Theodore Phillips Anus (GP)

      Jesus.

I know, let’s call Major Wright and see what he’s up to now.

You’d rather roll with Jones-Quartay back there?

I’m also enough of an old timer here Irish, to recall when you said the Honey Badger would be a bust and to skip him. Then again, I said Burfict would bust out.

      • MB30SD

Thank you sir, I thought I’d woken up in the fucking twilight zone

      • Irish Sweetness

Oh no, we need a safety. At least you know Adams wouldn’t be afraid of contact. But he’s a guy we’d only get in a trade-down.

        • Bender McLugh

          Hooker afraid of contact?

          https://youtu.be/DaWtA4oPLpw?t=1m5s

          (from MB’s link)

        • MB30SD

He’s a Fucking strong safety you crazy Irish lover.

We have one of those… He just needs a REAL FREE SAFETY next to him.

    • Huge Bears Penis

so Hooker is a pussy and clams up, and is hesitant when facing a pounding from a big black rb. sounds about right.

      • Bender McLugh

oh nooo, too bow-cooo (beaucoup, I’m not a savage)

    • Bender McLugh

for serious Irish…..you don’t think Hooker is good at #3? So you take Allen there if both are available, or some other top flight DE? both are good choices but I personally think Hooker is the pick #withnotradedown

  • Bender McLugh

alrighty kids, the proven (by me, many times now) hang over cure that lasts until I can shove some bacon and/or other greasy-awesomeness into my face: The Bullet Proof Coffee. For those skeptics, eff off it rocks-works-isawesome.

    Bullet Proof Coffee:
1 x Cup of freshly brewed coffee
1 x Tbsp (15 grams) unsalted organic butter (from grass-fed cows – non-millenial versions are best)
1 x Tbsp (15 grams) coconut oil (you can skip the butter, never the trigliceride)
Sweetener (optional) – If you need some sweetness add some stevia or xylitol (never sugar)
Optional extra – cinnamon or some spice, your mom

MIX IT (a must) in a blender or use a stick blender aka ’emersion blender’

ENJOY your bulletproof coffee which could (does NOT) replace your breakfast (BACON mofos)

    • CanadaBear

Now you tell me. You’re about 23 years too late for me!

      • MB30SD

        And your mommy

        • CanadaBear

If my mother was alive she would be almost 100. For a lady that was under 5 foot tall and about 100 lbs, she could pound the suds. Miss her every day.

          • Bender McLugh

sounds like a helluva lady to hang with, awesome

          • Johnnywad

Old ladies that can hammer beers are the best. Good times.

          • CanadaBear

Used to take her out for pizza and beer about once a month after my dad passed.

          • Johnnywad

The best of memories I’m sure.

I had a great aunt that could drink with me and my college buddies back in the day. I’ll never forget watching her suggest that one of them had a vagina when he stopped drinking. She couldn’t bring herself to say the word pussy, but that’s what she meant.

          • CanadaBear

Good times for sure. One of the years that I was heavily involved in a Blues fest in town, my sister and brother-in-law took her and were buying her beers for a few hours. She was sitting on a bench the whole time and when she got up I guess she was unsteady to say the least. The next day is the only time I think I ever saw her with a hangover. I tried to tease her about it and she let me know that if I wanted to hear a litany of stupid things I’d done in my life, keep it up.

          • Johnnywad

Don’t poke the bear. Good lesson.

          • MB30SD

Me too Canada. There wasn’t a single person on this planet that disliked my mom. Amazing mom’s are the best.

That comment was actually meant for bender

          • CanadaBear

It’s all good. There’s no way I thought you were insulting my mother. I feel bad for anyone that didn’t have a great mother.

          • MB30SD

            Agree

    • MB30SD

My mentor who was a climber used to pimp the butter in the coffee. Hardcore man

      • Bender McLugh

I was seriously skeptical. until you try it tho….coconut oil is the key for real. blending it emulsifies which makes it special like me

        • MB30SD

          You ARE special

          • Bender McLugh

that’s what the mirror says to me erry day

    • Johnnywad

…….Wad goes to the pantry, moves around the Kraft Mac and Cheese, Fruity Pebbles and Ruffles….. “Fuck. We’re out of unsalted grass fed organic butter and Coconut Oil. AND WHO THE FUCK MOVED MY STEVIA AND EMERSION BLENDER?!!!”

      • burntorangenavyblue

Not even sure what “non-millenial” version means. I am assuming age, but I also picture beanie caps, nut hugging jeans, and fake nerd glasses while making duck faces.

        • Johnnywad

Don’t forget the really full beard and red plaid flannel jacket. Oh and stocking hats inside all day.

          • MB30SD

            Uhhhgggh, those things are brutal

        • Bender McLugh

          nailed it

      • MB30SD

        Hahahaha

    • burntorangenavyblue

Still tough to even think about cutting into a stick of butter with a hangover.

Mine is just giner ale and burp it out. No luck with anything else, but I don’t think butter and coffee will do it for me.

      • Big Mike

        I quit drinking 🙂

        • Bender McLugh

          quitter!

      • Bender McLugh

  • Bender McLugh

haha Shea “super bowl ring” McLellin.

    • CanadaBear

      Not me.

      • Irish Sweetness

As long as he’s #2 to Cutty, that’s a decent backup. Extra dimension of mobility.

        • CanadaBear

Give it up. Cutler is not playing for the Bears next year.

          • MB30SD

            Don’t even try Canada, pointless

    • MB30SD

      I’m in

      • Bender McLugh

        same

    • not me. He led BUF to 7th best scoring O in NFL this year (through 15 games, I’m not holding game after he was benched against him) and had <10 turnovers in the process. He's 27 and under contract for 4 more years at slightly below market value.

      • Bender McLugh

the only question then is why would BUF be okay moving him. New HC has to love a kid like this,

        • I have no idea. Haven’t heard anything bad about him being leaked out.

It seems more than just the last coaching staff soured on him though. Which is weird.

          • MB30SD

Data… Thoughts on hooker thus far?

          • haven’t watched him at all. Not really going to do draft evaluation stuff this year.

gotta at least look at Hooker & Allen. My vote is for Hooker but won’t be sad at all with Allen.

          • CanadaBear

I thought I read that Pergula insisted that Manuel play because he was worried Taylor would get hurt and he would be on the hook for the contract.

          • That may be. Still doesn’t explain why they’re ready to give up on him now.

But here’s my thing: BUF is a terribly run franchise. They haven’t made the playoffs in 17 years. I’m much more willing to gamble on a guy they’re willing to trade than a guy NE is willing to trade in Garoppolo, especially when we’ve seen Taylor play well for 2 straight years now (in less than ideal settings).

          • Bender McLugh

            Garoppolo isn’t worth the gamble

          • CanadaBear

At the season ending press conference they asked the GM Whaley why Taylor was benched the last game and he had no idea and said talk to the owner. That is fucked up. I guess my point is Buffalo is so clueless, that Taylor might be a nice short term answer for the Bears.

        • BearDown100393

          Because it is Buffalo.

    • BerwynBomber

I’m in but hope it doesn’t preclude us from drafting a QB, even if it’s a third round guy.

      • Bender McLugh

        absolutely

  • SC Dave

I watched a small amount of film from some knob slobberer, and it was singularly unimpressive.

  • BerwynBomber

    I’ll go OAK +3.5, DET +8, PIT -10, and NYG +4.5.

OAK/HOU — a heart over mind pick. Connor Cook will become the first QB in league history whose first career start is a playoff game. Good luck, kid. And HOU D is much better than OAK’s, despite Mack. But Oz equaling Cutty’s career playoff win total doesn’t seem right. Go Raiders.

DET/SEA — SEA wins the game but DET performs better than expected. Unlike some DBBers, I thought DET played okay Sun but ran into a Rodgers buzzsaw. But Zenner needs to run well and hopefully Slay’s hammy is healed. Oh, and SEA has been stumbling down the stretch with no Earl Thomas.

MIA/PIT — toughest pick of the four. PIT will win but 10 is ton of points in a post-season game and Matt Moore has been a dependable back-up for years. Still, this will be the first game, due to health, that R-berger/Bell/Brown have ever played together so they might roll.

NYG/GB — Rodgers’ late-season dash comes to an end. Forget Eli’s freaky clutch-ness. NYG might have the best secondary in the game right now in guys like Collins, Jenkins, DRC and Apple. Plus, their front six or seven can apply pressure.

    • Bender McLugh

      good luck kid indeed

    • Bender McLugh

“Still, this will be the first game, due to health, that R-berger/Bell/Brown have ever played together”

is this true??? holy crap, this would be a turrible loss for the Steelers

      • BerwynBomber

My bad: first playoff game. Corrected.

        • Bender McLugh

still, they gonna roll Miami but if they lose that’s a Kordel Stewart kinda loss (i don’t know what that means)

  • Bender McLugh

so no talk about Fuller being moved to Safety. I’ve heard things…..people are talking……it’s true.

he had his knee scoped in August. That’s 4-8 week recovery time frame. Players all around the league come back inside that time frame. He wasn’t eligible to come back for something like 12 weeks. Doctors cleared him to play, he wouldn’t. Something’s not right. Coaching staffs don’t call out players, like Fangio did Fuller.

Hoping he gets his head right this off -season, but even if he’s crushing it during OTA’s, training camp etc, won’t know until hitting starts for real. His medical condition could in fact be his heart. Or he has what I call “vaginitis”.

Third picks in the first round over the past 30 years make me a bit nervous. With the glaring exception of Barry Sanders, there isn’t much that says “can’t miss with the third pick.” Especially at QB. Vince Young, Steve McNair, Matt Ryan, Blake Bortles, several more. A quick review of names only is probably unfair – I’m sure there are OL and DL guys who were Pro Bowlers and / or valuable pieces of the overall puzzle for some teams. Just not household names.

    And not game changers either.

Then again, Walter Payton was drafted fourth overall and I distinctly remember Johnny Morris talking about him shortly after the draft. He showed highlights of him at Jackson State and his assessment was “he’s got a chance to be a pretty good back in the NFL”. So early impressions – in either direction – are not meaningful.

I do wonder what the odds are of getting a solid pick in the top ten? By solid I’d say minimally multiple Pro Bowls (and not as a third or lower alternate) and a starter for at least 5 years. My guess is less than 50%.

Less and less do I want a QB at this position. I think the expectation is the guy needs to be a day one starter and an obvious difference maker by the second half of the season.

    No pressure, Ryan!

    • Rack ’em (GP)

Nice shout out on Johnny Morris talking about Payton’s rookie draft.

It’s fun to see those old Ditka shows on CBS on Youtube. The grobowskis in action:

“heya… ya… Mike from Cicero here, luv ya coach, go bare-shhh. aaaaanyhow coaaach, i wanted to ask about using Matt Suhey morez outz the backfield, ya know? more plays like that maybe.”

Ditka chews his gum wearing a double knit sweater over a turtleneck, staring at the guy like’s he’s the dumbest motherfucker on the planet:

      “yeah. might look at that.”

    • SC Dave

First post of likely several (again, I hate that Disqus is so restricting RE HTML or I’d make decent tables). In any event, here are the numbers of players chosen by position in the first five picks in all NFL drafts back to 1936, from pro-football-reference.com. Best guesses are:
      WB – wing back,
TB – tailback (but stats say QB/HB hybrid)
      BB – Blocking back
      B – back
E – End (names I know indicate this is WR)
SE – Dave Parks, split his career between WR and TE

      Format

      Position: #1 pick, #2, #3, #4, #5 = Total

      B: 3, 3, 6, 2, 1 = 15
      BB: 1, 1, 0, 0, 0 = 2
      HB: 5, 8, 5, 3, 3 = 24
      FB: 2, 4, 3, 4, 3 = 16
      RB: 9, 9, 8, 8, 7 = 41
      TB: 0, 0, 2, 1, 1 = 4
      WB: 0, 0, 0, 1, 3 = 4

      QB: 30, 17, 15, 11, 10 = 84

      WR: 2, 3, 5, 9, 2 = 21
      FL: 0, 0, 0, 1, 0 = 1
      SE: 1, 0, 0, 0, 0 = 1
      TE: 1, 0, 0, 0, 2 = 3
      E: 3, 1, 0, 1, 3 = 8

      C: 1, 1, 1, 0, 3 = 6
      G: 0, 2, 3, 4, 1 = 10
      T: 4, 10, 5, 12, 4 = 35

      CB: 0, 0, 0, 0, 1 = 1
      DB: 1, 2, 6, 2, 13 = 24
      DE: 11, 6, 7, 9, 7 = 40
      DT: 2, 6, 9, 4, 4 = 25
      LB: 4, 8, 4, 9, 12 = 37
      NT: 0, 0, 0, 0, 1 = 1
      OLB: 0, 0, 1, 0, 0 = 1

      • MB30SD

I was told there’d be no maths involved. sigh.

        • SC Dave

          Oh, I got more.

        • SC Dave

But you should be encouraged… here is the info on DBs…

          DB: .0/.0/7.0, .5/2.5/7.5, 1.0/1.67/6.0, 3.0/7.0/11.0, 1.0/2.46/6.62

Bottom line, defensive backs taken in the first five picks have averaged almost 7 years as starters for their teams. Berry and Patrick Peterson are going to move that up some.

Eliminate the two 0 season busts, and you get a 7.55 average for the other 22. Pretty good, actually.

You’ve seen me say many times before that I would be happy with a multi-year out of every first round pick. It seems like it should be easy, but it’s not.

Nearly one in eight of picks 1 through 5 in NFL history did not start / have not started a single season in their careers.

      • BillW

Nice work – a lot jumps out here. I’d say though that the fact that the game has changed so much since the 30’s makes it harder to assess.

Maybe look at the SB era only? Or since the passing rules substantially changed (5 yard chuck rule mainly).

(Who remembers this odd rule – if a pass in the end zone on fourth down with the line of scrimmage inside the 20 was incomplete, the opposing team took over at the 20 and not the LOS?)

Anyway – based only on this:
        68% offense
        Even excluding QBs, 60% offense

        For the defense:
        DB – 19%
        DL – 51%
        LB – 29%
(doesn’t add to 100% due to rounding)

So taking a DB in the top 5 is rare even if you go defense. Which means what? Nothing except maybe this – the opportunity to get a DB worth that high of a pick is rare – and so it may be best to jump on it (if the need is there) rather than regret it for years.

    • SC Dave

Same source, this has information on “stardom”. Layout is the same, except the data is
      Position, A/P/S, A/P/S, A/P/S, A/P/S, A/P/S
the A/P/S tuples being for the #1, #2, #3, #4, and #5 picks in all drafts respectively.

The A/P/S values indicate the number of
      A – average # selections as 1st team All-pro
      P – average # Pro bowl selections
      S – average # seasons as a Starter

Am I looking at this correct, I wonder. Let’s zoom in on DB, fourth pick.

All the DBs picked as the 4th overall pick averaged 3 All Pro – 7 Pro Bowls – 11 years as a starter?

Now coupled with the other chart, there were only 2 to begin with. So those two averaged 3 All Pros? Meaning perhaps 6 for one of them and none for the other, or any other combination that totals 6 (and therefore averages 3).

        Is that correct?

If so, I’m at the same conclusion as before. If you trust your scouts when they say a certain DB is worth a top five pick, take him because the odds of success are much better.

YES – of all people, I certainly know the sample size mukes such conclusions dangerous. But something is jumping out there.

(EDIT – and I see by your response to MB that you are drawing a similar conclusion about DBs in the first 5)

        • SC Dave

Like I said, it’s pretty crude number crunching at the moment. I encourage you to go to the pro-football-reference site and learn how to use some of the search tools and explore for yourself.

If I had a site or a blog, I could slice and dice a bunch of crap because I’m decent at Excel, and it’s easy to get data from that site in csv format.

Then, more interesting questions could be answered, for example, “based on past history since 1950, what is the probability of getting a 10+ year starter by picking a DB in the first 5 picks of the draft? The first round?” etc.

        • I’m guessing it’s due to the caliber a DB must be to go top 5.

          #1 usu a QB
          #2 usu a QB/Pass rusher
#3 (2nd best QB/pass rusher, or best LT)
#4 (Stud WR/HB, though not so much the case anymore)
#5 (best CB, or in really rare instance, S)

Most GMs have traditionally valued 1st and 2nd best QB, LT, Pass rusher and WR over CB and esp S.

Even Deon Sanders fell to #5, and he was arguably the best CB to ever come out of college, and everyone knew it.

Who was drafted ahead of PrimeTime in 89 draft?

          1. Troy Aikman, Dallas
          2. Tony Mandarich (OT), GB
          3. Barry Sanders, DET
          4. Derrick Thomas, KC
          5. Deon, ATL

[this is actually a good top 5 draft and even looking back now, who would u rather take?]

CBs and S though may start getting drafted higher more reguarly esp after how both Earl Thomas and Eric Berry have helped their teams, and esp with the fall of the HB in the modern era.

          • CanadaBear

Leave it to the Fudgies to take the steroid monster. Glad he was a bust.

          • They literally picked the only bust out of 4/5 HOFers

Let’s see which of you old timers remembers who we drafted in 89 without google lol

    • BerwynBomber

What is wrong with McNair and Matty Ice?

Bortles? He seems like young Cutty thus far, but I would exactly call him a bust.

      • I would argue Bortles is def a bust, but at one point, a lot of ppl compared Stafford to Cutler, so maybe, just maybe, Bortles can turn it around.

But the games I’ve watched with him, he just makes some horrendous decisions, like Barkley throwing into triple coverage.

Not sure who can fix that for him by now.

        • BerwynBomber

Bust makes me think Cade McNown or Jamarcus Russell. You start four years in the league don’t know if that would qualify as bust. But yeah, I get your point about Bortles all the same.

          • “Bust” is a bit subjective, and IMO, draft dependent.

For instance, even though we all hated WebbNation, I mean, he was a 7th rounder. He was never supposed to be a premiere LT according to draft position.

Someone like Shea though, total bust IMO. Gotta at least be a starter if drafted in 1st.

If you’re drafted in top 10, esp 5, it’s pretty much PBs or bust.

QBs at #3 need to at least reach Andy Dalton level.

Fun stories from the 2007 Packers-Giants Ice bowl:
    http://www.si.com/nfl/2017/01/05/packers-giants-2007-nfc-championship-game-oral-history

First play from scrim: Brandon Jacobs TRUCKS Charles Woodson. Blows his ass up.

Woodson is not the same player the rest of the game

    • BerwynBomber

Jacobs was enormous and could flatten any CB. Surprised he didn’t KO Woodson.

Anyone remember Mike Brown getting knocked cold by Brian Mitchell in our playoff game against PHI in the Jauron era? That was pretty surprising. Grudging respect for Mitchell who wasn’t the biggest guy but was solidly put together.

    • Governerd

I have a buddy who played college ball at Eastern Washington who somewhat boastfully told me Brandon Jacobs gave him a concussion on his (my buddy’s) last play ever.

      • AlbertInTucson

I have a coworker who ran the scout team offense at Baylor when Samurai was there.

He says all the “Broken Helmet” stories are true and practicing against Singletary was “Not fun”.

Facebook incident denigrates Chicagos standing further. ”

Ha. What, the 900 murders didn’t peg the meter? Yesterday night two gangbangers got into a MAC10 battle on the Ike.

        The Ike! Fuck that

        • willbest

Honest law abiding citizens don’t really give a toss when criminals kill each other. But trick a mentally disabled person into following you and torture him for 2 days and people take notice.

I suppose in that sense I could forgive the CPD for not understanding why people are so mad.
          1) The guy lived, probably 3 gangbangers got toe tags in that same 48-hour window
          2) They caught the degenerates that did it (only about 1 in 5 murders get solved in Chicago)
          3) No officers or perps were killed in the process.

Thats a grand slam by CPD standards. Still you can’t call 18 year olds torturing a disabled person kids doing stupid things.

          • SC Dave

But remember, it can’t be a hate crime *just* because the victim is white. Maybe the other extenuating circumstances can make it so, but I’m doubting it.

          • “White gay” – “White transvestite” – are Jews considered “white” now?

If so, MB completes the trifecta!

          • SC Dave

Wait, are you saying MB is all three?

          • MB30SD

he was. he’s reaching and is sore that I called him a degenerate for pissing in some broken young girl’s mouth.

It’s ok, I’ll still take his dodgy cutt off texts of some chicks ass off the innerneess.

          • Whatever the book is, it should be thrown at those ppl.

Few things I think all races and sexes and humans and even children can agree on – mentally disabled are off the table.

          • willbest

I don’t get it. We might have called normal kids retards and told them they belonged on the short bus in my day, but the kids that road the short bus, were left alone and shown a lot of tolerance.

Had one kid shit his pants in 3rd grade, nobody said a damn thing about it to him. Nobody got out of line when the teacher/aide were dealing with it. But a normie, you ripped ass and all of a sudden you are listening to “Will farts the Best” all day long.

            Don’t punch down.

          • Yeah, same here.
Lots of jokes about retards, short bus, helmets, etc but not even the thugs or cholos would fuck with them. I even remember they would defend them if someone did.

I remember one time I think one was shooting hoops and some others were gonna boot him off, and the other guys were like, no, you better find another hoop.

But lots of vitriol with all this police murdering af americans.

Doesn’t excuse it, but that’s my only guess as to some of the digression in decency.

and let’s be clear – Police brutality has ALWAYS happened – but seeing it on tv now cuz of all the smart phones has really ratched it up the tension.

I don’t recall ‘race relations’ being this dodgy since like the mid 80s (see “Colors” “NWA”).

And here we thought the millineials could finally get beyond it all.

          • SC Dave

Not with the identity and race-baiting politics of the Totalitarian Left. It ain’t getting better until that bullshit goes away.

          • burntorangenavyblue

There is absolutely without a doubt in Chicagoland (as well as Northwest Indiana, where I am from) that we all know that the first CPD press conference they held about this incident, that the Mayor’s hand was up their ass, speaking for them.

The language, hesitation, and this not being their first time handling themselves in such a manner was clear indication that Emanuel was very close by in this.

from SI mock draft for us @ #3 (they have garrett going #1 and SF taking Watson ahead of us):

    MITCH TRUBISKY
    QB, NORTH CAROLINA
Trubisky is one of those QB prospects that stumbles through stretches where he makes people wonder why he’s a top-10 possibility—there were a couple of these stretches in the Sun Bowl. Then, he’ll make a throw that reminds everyone of his gifts. He’s going to take some time. Perhaps Matt Barkley or another vet buys the Bears a window to let Trubisky develop. The payoff could be massive.

Sound familiar? FUCK THIS SHIT. We get Cutler 2.0 and I am all the way out Pace… you hear me!

…I believe in something much closer to what some native Americans (and other aboriginal peoples) believed. That “god” is in everything alive. Us, animals, plants… it’s an energy that we’re all part of, contribute to, and go back to when we die.

I don’t trust anything man made my maings (at least ‘white man’ made)

Most monotheistic religions originated in the Middle East…most certaintly not created by “white” men. Now the bastardization of said religions were definitely taken advantage of by the advancement of modernizing civilizations, mostly done by the white man. Islam, however, that has always been a can of fuckup since its inception.

Many “white man” religions were pagan. People like to think that even most of the Romans and Greeks were “white”, but blame Hollyweird for that.

          • MB30SD

Yes, I knowz all theez… I basically meant ‘modern’ religion in its current form and function and what it has become. But basically all religion is fuck-ed, no matter who thought that shit up.

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

The ancient druids of Ireland predate all religions on record and Aton monotheism is older than ancient egypt even predating judaism.

What you see today is nothing more than witchcraft deceiving the entire world.

Every atom has an electro-magnetic algorithm that gives it it’s form and shape. Ancient knowledge has been kept from us and is being used to enslave the entire world through deceit and treachery. Nothing you see on the news or on television is real. It’s all bullshit.

If we had a good team, Cutler like play can be overcome. What made it unbearable these last 4 years was having a shitty team that required flawless qb play. A new QB without the baggage will do this team wonders. I know I’m right and what’s more, Pace agrees with me. Watch.

      • I don’t think Cutler has any baggage (aside from him not being a vocal leader). He simply turns it over too much and is a liability every other week.

That’s like the opposite of “consistency”

Bears need a QB who can be an asset.

I know, alien concept for Bears fans!

Nothing like the hometown paper getting behind its team

    • AlbertInTucson

Seattle is not the Seattle of the last two seasons.

      That said:

      1) Detroit is on a 3 game skid, including 2 HOME losses.

      2) The Loins haven’t beaten a playoff team all year and were fortunate to SPLIT with the Bears.

      3) Stafford’s throwing hand ain’t right.

      4) The game is AT Seattle.

      5) The Loins have not won a game outdoors all season.

I am still taking a touchdown if the bookies are giving it

      • That SEA D now has Bennett back too. He makes a difference.
But SEA has to find an offensive identity.

They wanted to run, but that didn’t work.
If they pass vs good D, Wilson will have to play out of his mind, and he’s barely taking that brace off from what I’ve read.

      • SC Dave

Fuck it.. Stafford on a roll, and Pete fucking Carroll crying in is goddamn cheerios.
