DaBearsBlog On Vacation This Weekend

| January 13th, 2017

DaBearsBlog is celebrating a birthday in New Orleans this weekend. Should anything of note happen in Bearsland, I’ll be sure to put something up. Otherwise I will be spending my weekend on the 15th at English Turn, cozying up on the front corner stool at Napoleon House and gorging on Willie Mae’s fried chicken.

Picks for the weekend:

3-1 picking winners last weekend. But a miserable 1-3 ATS.

Falcons -4.5 over Seahawks

Patriots -15.5 over Texans

Chiefs -1.5 over Steelers

Packers +4.5 over Cowboys (Dallas 30, Packers 28)

What is this shit? I demand uninterrupted content that I can disagree with

  • Bobby Douglass

Just make sure to take a pair of shoes you can throw away before you go home. I always do that when I go to New Orleans.

  • Joecashflow

Congrats to Howard for pro bowl selection! Amazing season. Espn thinking Safety for Bears @#3 draft position. I would be happy with that. QB would be over-reaction.

Can we finally stop wasting picks on RB’s? Please?

      • Bender McLugh

Cedric Benson does not approve this message.

        • CanadaBear

Where’s Cedrunk when you don’t need him?

      • MB30SD

        please god.

      • Joecashflow

Explain wasting ? 5th Rd, #2 RB in NFL, I think we can look elsewhere, now.

  • Rack ’em (GP)

I want a John Fancenda worthy ice bowl in KC with opposing T formations and under 100 yards passing total

  • CanadaBear

I’m not surprised Tom Coughlin was nice to Jeff. Whenever I’ve seen him he seems like a very engaging, funny individual. Tough bastard for sure. I would have been thrilled if the Beloved replaced Sweaty Teddy with him. I think the Jags made a good hire.

    • MB30SD

100% agree. But the McCaskeys are obviously allergic to success

      • CanadaBear

I think Ginny and George desperately want to win but are clueless. I’m afraid they don’t see anything wrong with the hierarchy (which is mind boggling to us). Nothing against Sweaty Teddy being on the biz side only but get him as far away from football operations as possible.

        • MB30SD

exactly!?? WHy the FUCK is some fat sweaty accountant that smells like McD’s grease in charge of football ops.

The closest that fucking nerd ever got to a football field growing up was passing it on his walk to chemistry club. Pisses me off man.

      • Sauron’s right eyeball

        What about the other 10%?

        • CanadaBear

That one always gets me. Math is a funny thing.

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

My daddy told me to always give 110%.

          • Rack ’em (GP)

            Thanks Trac!

      • BearDown100393

Phillips made it crystal clear that success was defined by the cash box and not winning on the field.

In fairness, Ginny is like 137 and they the Bears incompetence plays nicely into convincing the IRS that its only a 2.7 billion dollar franchise instead of a 3.5 billion dollar franchise.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the reason the Bears opted to lease Soldier Field rather than beat the state into some sort of 1.5 billion dollar pleasure palace in Arlington Heights was because they didn’t want to have to deal with the estate planning on it.

Any bar sign that has the Schlitz logo on either side is just old school scuzz enough to be great.

    • CanadaBear

When I was first drinking in bars one of the dives we frequented had two brands on tap. Schlitz and Mountie Piss (Drewerys). I’m not sure which one was worse but they were twenty cents/glass.

      • Johnnywad

        Twenty cents a glass………

        • CanadaBear

I’m old. I remember seeing ads for Golden Glow, 5 quarts for a dollar. A liquor store in the area was closing out their supply of M/D 20-20 (20% alcohol), commonly known as Mad Dog back then. They were blowing it out for 25 cents a fifth. I drank Ripple Pear wine for years. It was 79 cents a fifth (not on sale). Needless to say I really needed to quit drinking when I did!

          • Johnnywad

            I guess. Holy rot gut.

I just gave $60 for a bottle of scotch by comparison. You gotta take it easy when it costs that much. I basically budget myself into moderation.

          • CanadaBear

Booze up here is really expensive. Most stuff is close to double what you pay in the States. Sin taxes on booze and cigs (and soon to include Sticky Icky), help pay for health care. It makes sense. Typically people that over indulge in this stuff have health problems later in life.

  • Rack ’em (GP)
    • willbest

I don’t understand the appeal of it, but to each his own.

      • Rack ’em (GP)

The media is on Trump for having Russian hookers pee on him – but even the report says that is not what happened.

He called up some hookers, had them drop their panties and stand on the bed Obama slept on and pee all over it.

It wasn’t sexual. To him, it was no different than having your dog take a dump in your hated neighbor’s yard. It was a juvenile show of disrespect by a guy who could tell the hotel to put it on his bill – maybe something to entertain his troops.

        But it wasn’t sexual.

        • willbest

Either Trump would need to admit to it or you would need to have video evidence for me to believe that. Trump has millions of ways to publicly shit on Obama and they are far easier and cheaper for him to do.

It doesn’t pass the “smell” test as it were.

          • Rack ’em (GP)

The former MI6 guy who is now on the lam and who wrote the dossier – he may not have been above adding a few salacious details in the report to help it sell.

Even if FSB has 1080i HD video of Russian hookers jumping up and down on a bed while they pee and Donald clapping along, I don’t think it’s blackmail worthy. Embarrassing maybe, but Donald don’t care. All he would have to say is “I was having some fun at Obama’s expense” and the electorate would lap that shit up. To turn a phrase.

          • willbest

Or its just all bullshit. If the truth were convincing, you wouldn’t need to lie.

Anyway, I would be shocked if every country didn’t have incriminating evidence on every other world leader. But I figure there is an intelligence MADD there. Sure Putin could show where Trump stole money from orphans, and used slave labor to build Trump Tower Malaysia or whatever. But then Trump just opens up the file and shows where Putin moved $5 billion of Russian government assets into his own personal rainy day fund.

    • MB30SD

I don’t mind the golden shower thing. Never done it, but it’s sterile and I don’t think it would bother me… who knows, maybe I’d even like it.

It’s in the face/mouth thing that’s not for me. Like, why… why in the face/mouth. I’ll piss on you anywhere else, and as long as we’re jumping into a shower/bath after and it totally turns you on babe, sure, you can piss on me.

      …just NOT the face!

  • 3-1 last weekend. The quest for 11-0 rolls over to next year.

My picks this weekend, straight up:

    Green Bay (sigh)
    New England
    Atlanta
    Kansas City

I think SEA is the remaining NFC team with the best shot at beating GB. Need a team with a badass DL who can punish Rodgers. NYG did it for just under a half. ATL and DAL won’t be able to.

    • willbest

      Dallas, Atlanta, New England, Steelers.

    • Tortured Bear fan

Green gay, Atlanta, NE and Steelers

      • MB30SD

        stop this.

The cowgirls are going to fucking stomp the packers… what’s wrong with all you guys?!?

        • willbest

          fatalists

        • That Guy

I think the Packers lose by 10. Last week was Green Bay’s big playoff moment. I think they really struggle to get anything going and Dallas controls the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.

          • MB30SD

agree MS. It really hard to watch those guys win. I hate watching them win almost as much as I hate watching us lose.

          • I don’t think DAL has the DL to bother Rodgers. Teams that beat GB and give them problems have a great DL. DAL doesn’t fit that bill. I say GB in a shootout, but hope like hell I’m wrong.

          • CanadaBear

The Beloved should have beat them and their DL either sacked him or gave him 10 seconds. Pretty sure Old Sauce will have them revved up.

          • Their Oline can keep the ball out of Vadgers hand and keep their O on ice.
That’s the only way i see them winning vs Puke

        • BerwynBomber

Yeah, I don’t buy it either. The Cheese still seem a one-man band, and DAL was the best team in the league this year not named NE.

    • That Guy

      Dallas, New England, Seattle, Pittsburgh

Don’t really know what to say about the last one. Haven’t been following either team much.

    • CanadaBear

I can’t see the Fudgies D stepping up and without Nelson it will be tough sledding for erin.

      • MB30SD

        yep.

      • Vadgers didn’t score 38 till Jordy went down, right?

        • MB30SD

no, until the fuckin D wore down because their WRs couldn’t catch a fucking cold and pissed away multiple scores and multiple momentum holders.

        • BerwynBomber

Yup. But Jordy is still his BMarsh.

        • CanadaBear

Do you think the Fudge win?

    • BerwynBomber

Rodgers is due for a bad game. Or at least an INT. That said, what will most likely doom GB is their D. And McCarthy.

Chalk (ATS): NE, ATL, KC and DAL.

    • Johnnywad

Elliot is never going to let Erin have the ball. Hard to score without the ball.

      • willbest

If you keep breaking for 12 yard runs you don’t chew up the clock very well.

        • MB30SD

          100/12=8.3 plays a series.

          • willbest

            75/12 = 6.25 plays a series.

          • MB30SD

Sure. I was using the whole field to provide some perspective.

but fuck crosby (or whoever their punter is) while I’m at it.

Was 3-1 straight up and ATS last week.

    This week (straight up):
    Seattle, New England, KC, Dallas

    ATS:
Seattle (duh, underdog), New England, KC, Green Bay

I’ve got a sneaky suspicion Clowney break’s Brady’s arm in the 1st quarter and Houston rolls to an upset win… all because that 16-point line is ridiculous.

They were probably molested by him too. One of the ways in which people cope with such violations is normalize the act, because if the act is normal then they can feel normal.

It also explains the cycle of such abuse.

Is the problem using a white actor?

I assume Michael would approve, since he evidently wanted to look that way.

  • willbest

Disney denies that it is negotiating with Carrie Fisher’s estate over the right to give her the Peter Cushing treatment.

Which actually got me thinking. The ILM director said doing Cushing was very expensive and not practical. But then so was rudimentary CGI 30 years ago. Look at how far Pixar has and CGI in general has come since Toy Story in 1996. In 20 years, screen actors will be entirely CGI which will solve the problem having to pay Robert Downey Jr. $80 million to do a Marvel movie.

The genius of “make them pay for it” is that when you are discussing who is going to pay for it (or how you will make them), you unconsciously accept as a given that it is being built.

Fun game. They released a Hunger Games style play mode where 24 contestants get placed randomly on the map with a pistol and have to scavenge and craft their way to the exit. You can loot other players corpses for stuff (in pvp mode you get to kill them outright though in pve mode you can train bad guys on them).

            Completely unbelievable premise though.

            Completely unbelievable premise though.

That people would go insane in NYC and a group of metrosexuals with excellent Dolce & Gabana clothing and scarfs would save the city using H&K MP5 with tiger stripes painted on them?

            Fuck that whack shit

        • MB30SD

here’s my deal. I am a 100% supporter of cops. Erra time I come into contact with one (not often and always on friendly terms) I shake their hand and thank them for doing a rough, thanksless job.

Vicious pieces of shit like this guy need to get murder 1 and need to go away and have happen to them in prison what’s coming. Because not only did he kill that kid “for fun”, but he’s giving all cops a bad name and that is fucked, because being a cop is fucking brutal… dealing with the dregs of society 99% of the time.

          Anyway, thass where I’m ats.

          • Rack ’em (GP)

My nephew, in the last one year, has had bullets fly *at* him, in anger, 5 times.

My sister hired a therapist in Chicago; he talks to her every two weeks.

Ever had anybody shoot at you? For real? I had an asshole shoot over our head during the first Bulls victory, and I was in a murderous rage then. Had I been packing heat, I might be in jail today because I wanted to take his head off.

I am not excusing that scum who dropped his clip into McDonald. But mcDonald was meth’d out, wandering down the middle of a major road, yanking at cars, and ignoring the cops yelling at him. The idiot decided to issue the death penalty to the kid for being whack on crack. It’s wrong and it hurts the force, and gives the unwashed masses reasons to block Michigan avenue.

But we’re talking about a culture that simply refuses to take responsibility for it’s own failings.

          • MB30SD

I agree with all of that, and all of post was aimed at the cop killing purposefully. It was obvious the kid was either whacked out on drugs or mentally ill. A simple taser pull and shoot would have taken care of it in seconds.

It was indeed 1st degree murder and as the vid said, not a single other officer took a single shot. This POS was hell bent on killing someone because he thought he could.

No never, and I totally understand errathing that comes with being a cop (academically), and 99.9% of the time I’m on the cops side for constantly being in danger of being ambushed and for being rightly jumpy… but when there’s video like this, you just go… damn, that dude is a murderer, I don’t care what he’s wearing or what his resume says he is.

Hollywood is incapable of producing another iconoclast like mcQueen. Pitt dreams of being that guy.

He made a racing documentary and didn’t write himself into the story. He took millions to make a film and refused to give anybody a script. Or bother writing one.

      It is an incredible story.

        • Rack ’em (GP)

What I linked to was a new documentary about the making of the film, not the film itself.

          The documentary is insane.

McQueen was banging every babe over 18 in France, living in a castle, telling his production company to fuck off when they wanted to know when the film would be done.

The documentary is also fascinating to see Chad McQueen at 50. His father royally fucked that kid, he had no shot of living out from under that shadow.

          • MB30SD

ahhhhhh… got it. I’ll check it, thanks!

If she’ll be doing more Street, get her a beachcruiser. They’re relatively cheap. Just making sure you get one with speeds… The single speeds are brutal.

        • Bender McLugh

He DID ask for a hybrid

          • MB30SD

            Hahaha

      • CanadaBear

E-bikes are great for transportation but most people end up using the battery power way more than pedal power. Not to mention, because of the battery and motor the bikes are so heavy they are really a bitch to pedal uphill without some motor assist. At least for me, I wouldn’t buy one for a kid because you’re trying to get them to exercise and hopefully embrace the freedom a bicycle affords a kid. At least, that’s why I fell in love with them as a kid.

    • CanadaBear

MB gave ya good advice. Look up used bikes and make sure it’s a brand they sell in bike shops. Look for quick release wheels because of the convenience and typically once bikes cross a certain threshold they have quick release wheels. I would recommend a hybrid. Definitely get one with multiple gears. Pick it up and see how much it weighs. Typically the lighter they are the more expensive they are. Don’t get put off by flat tires. Typically they are fine they just need to be pumped up. If not, look at the tires to make sure they aren’t shot. Tubes are cheap. Most important, make sure it fits her. Unless it’s a surprise, take her with you and have her ride it. Some of the most popular brands are Trek, Specialized, Cannondale, Giant, Fuji, Diamondback. If you aren’t familiar with the brand, look it up. It will be pretty clear if it’s a bike store bike or a dept store bike. Dept store bikes suck. Weigh at least 40 lbs and the tolerances for EVERYTHING is shitty. Typically the newer hybrids are up to 10 speeds in back and 3 in front (30 speeds). Don’t go for anything less than 7 cogs in back, hopefully 8 or 9. If there are fewer cogs than seven it’s really old or a dept store bike. Hope that helps.

      • MB30SD

Or just get her an ebike with humongous tires Trac.

        Nice work Canada.

        • CanadaBear

I actually love helping people get into biking. I was talking to a stripper one time while she was at work and ended up taking her bike shopping. Unfortunately for me that was all. She did get a nice bike!

          • MB30SD

Hahahahaha…Good for you. I would have recommended she ride me, never mind the silly bike. Hahaha

You gave good advice, I just HATE hybrids (in my dbs and dls too), they are always so fugly. Thus, I always recommend picking one route… You can always buy two sets of tires for an MTB.

          • CanadaBear

I hear ya but a mt bike is overkill for most people unless they are going off road. I hesitate to recommend used mt bikes because sometimes they are truly trashed. Hybrids are usually in good shape.

    • willbest

Solar power is a highly problematic without storage. All the dirty plants have to run even dirtier in order to accommodate it and wind. Plus they kill epic amounts of birds and are huge eyesores. I did read an idea of a solar power system that stores its energy in molten salt which can sustain a 10 hour interruption of sunlight. Don’t know if it solves bird slaughter, but as it is capable of generating more predictable levels of energy it is far more useful in grid management.

      • MB30SD

Take it fucking easy captain kangaroo, who made you chirpchirp, Lord and protector of the birds all of a sudden?!?

so the girl I have been seeing wanted to try something last night that I found a little unusual. She sat me down, and pulled out a VR headset and headphones for me to wear. She found a porn video where the “actress” had a similar body type but was eastern European descent. She set it up so what I was seeing was also broadcast to my TV so she could follow along. While I was watching she was doing the same thing to me that the girl in the porn was doing. It was evident that she had watched this video a few times since her timing with the video was scary good. All I have to say is ‘HOLY CRAP!!!!’ It was truly an interactive porn experience.

    • willbest

Apparently, I need to invest in some VR.

    • Sauron’s right eyeball

All I can say is, watch out for the hidden camera’s BD. Lol

      • Huge Bears Penis

good advice, but it is my house and I know where all the hidden camera’s are.

  • willbest

    Seahawks look solid

  • willbest

Matt Ryan is going to need to do what he doesn’t usually do

  • BearDown100393

Well…. that opening drive was pretty much perfect for Seattle.

    • Rack ’em (GP)

they came to play and punch Atlanta in the mouth

      • BearDown100393

If they went for 2, IMO would have gotten it.

  • SC Dave

Playoff football is fucking intense. A whole extra level.

    • willbest

      This game is

  • SC Dave

Atlanta looks pretty determined to not be “out-toughed” so far.

  • willbest

Fox and the advertisers are probably pissed with how fast this game is moving

    • BearDown100393

Buzzing Goodell’s phone demanding for more official reviews.

  • SC Dave

Miracle of miracles!! Sherman called for holding.

    • willbest

Best WR > top 5 CB

      • BearDown100393

Its better than media hyped ODB – Norman

  • willbest

    Damn

    • SC Dave

Ryan looking pretty sharp. One bad miss early in the drive followed by solidness.

  • BearDown100393

    Punters are gonna be bored.

    • willbest

They all can’t be on a team with Pickles as QB1

    • Rack ’em (GP)

maybe Papa John can deliver some D to this game.

      • Huge Bears Penis

i would call Jimmy Johns. They freaky fast!

  • BearDown100393

    Devin’s got heart.

    • MB30SD

Unless you’re a loosing team, then he just collects a check

      • Sauron’s right eyeball

He’s a greedy little bastard too.

  • willbest

Hester isn’t completely on empty. Did Lockett end up on IR?

  • BearDown100393

Rival Sons should do the Half-Time show. But Goodell will pick Bieber first.

  • willbest

Peirra needs to stop sucking Seattle’s cock

  • willbest

There we go call a bullshit TD to get a tv commercial

    • BearDown100393

      Predictable

  • willbest

Hester needs to pee in a cup

  • BearDown100393

Pete’s connections with USC pharm techs would pay off a lot more if special teams stopped taking penalties when Hester is on the field.

  • BearDown100393

Wilson just outdid Romo. That’s a first.

  • willbest

    Lol nice

  • Huge Bears Penis

    weird seeing Hester wearing 17

    • Rack ’em (GP)

why does Rodgers try and hit a fly with a 9 iron?

      • BearDown100393

Why would the insurance company pay for the damage he caused because of stupidity?

        • Rack ’em (GP)

why is Clay Matthews eating a blueberry muffin on a white couch?

          • BearDown100393

Why is Clay Matthews having breakfast in Erin’s home?

          • MB30SD

This isn’t a commercial they “shot”, it’s just raw ‘home movie footage’.

They do make a cute couple.

And for Christ’s sake, close your mouth when you chew you filthy fucking animal.

          • BearDown100393

            He’s “practicing”?

        • Huge Bears Penis

why is a multi-millionaire making an insurance claim for a window? his insurance rates have to be astronomically with all his claims.

  • SC Dave

    Nice tackle by Alford.

And poor decision to eschew the fair catch.

  • madscout12

Jeffe, if you’re reading this, go here:http://jacques-imos.com/

    Nawlens rules.

  • BearDown100393

Bill Cowher is wearing eyeliner in that commercial.

  • SC Dave

    Sweet!!!

99 yard TD drive for Atlanta.

Edit: could have used another 50 seconds of clock to make it perfect.

    • BearDown100393

      Cool as ice

      • SC Dave

Certainly lived up to the moniker there.

  • BearDown100393

Seattle will lose this game because of their kick return ST. And this with Devin turning back the clock a decade. So stupid.

    • SC Dave

Oh I dont know. Atlanta just drove 99 yards for a TD.

Maybe Atlanta will just WIN this game.

      • BearDown100393

        Fair point.

        • SC Dave

They have been a scoring machine all year long.

They’re a bit ahead of average so far tonight, but still need 15 more points to get there.

Does Atlanta get the ball to start 3Q?

  • BearDown100393

Troy and Joe share their thoughts about Erin while nestled away in a Vermont log cabin with a roaring fire…..

    • Rack ’em (GP)

      NTTAWWT

      • BearDown100393

The rest of the crew comments…
        A. they need a few candles
        B. a little wine

  • SC Dave

    Hopefully not.

Because Seattle will not beat Green Bay, if for bo other reason.

I prefer, generally, new teams to advance. But Atlanta did lose a SB, right?

    • BearDown100393

      Dirty Birds.

    • MB30SD

      Yeah not going to happen.

    • MB30SD

Bullshit Dave, cowgirls are going to stomp those bitches tomorrow

  • SC Dave

That did not look good for Snead.

    Think something just snapped.

    • BearDown100393

      Shredded

      • SC Dave

Hopefully not, but it sure looked bad.

    • Rack ’em (GP)

      Pop

  • SC Dave

    Ryan looks damn good.

It helps having guys catch the ball tho.

    • SC Dave

Well, that pass was not good.

  • willbest

Seattle might want to consider covering Jones at some point

    • SC Dave

Ryan will just hit someone else.

  • BearDown100393

Atlanta offense ruthless with clock management.

  • SC Dave

Atlanta line asserting itself big time this drive

  • BearDown100393

    Big Mouth hurt again.

  • SC Dave

Ha ha ha. Bennett all indignant because the Atlanta dude totally pancaked his ass. Beat him like a drum.

    Piss off, Bennett.

  • SC Dave

    Devin has no mojo left.

    • BearDown100393

There was no other like him when he had it though.

  • BearDown100393

    Atlanta – Dallas NFC Championship

    • willbest

One hopes. Also KC vs Houston but that is a pipe dream

  • BerwynBomber

Interesting note about SEA (and why I did not choose them today):

“The Seahawks were the only team that never trailed by double digits from Weeks 1-11. They have trailed by double digits five times since then, counting today. That is tied with the Bears and Rams for most in the league. Related: Earl Thomas was hurt in Week 11, missed Week 12, then was lost for the season when hurt in Week 13.”

    • Sauron’s right eyeball

      Look at you go boi.

  • BearDown100393

So Pete…. how excited are your Seahawks now?

  • MB30SD

You guys see that shit… See what an HOF FS can Fucking do for your D?!?

Come on pace, don’t disappoint me.

Berry, hill, and hooker this offseason

    • Sauron’s right eyeball

I met my thrill, on blueberry hill. Sounds like a plan.

    • willbest

      All 3 seems overkill

      • MB30SD

Oooookaaaaay (totally puzzled and bewlidered look… Vexed even)

Will, um, wtf are you talking about dude?!?!

        • willbest

You only get to put two safeties out there. If you get berry/hill then draft dline

          • MB30SD

Nah, we have dline. Berry has lymphoma and hill is a pot head.

Contingency counselor… ALWAYS manage your downside

  • willbest

Matt Ryan just taunting Seattle throwing it right at them now

  • willbest

    Dagger back

  • BearDown100393

Nice “F*ck it I’m going home” throw from Wilson.

    • Sauron’s right eyeball

Like I’ve said before, nothing stellar about Wilson. He’s meh.

  • Bender McLugh

    Toilolo holy shit, beast

  • BearDown100393

    Atlanta defines Beast tonight.

  • willbest

Hester would have 2 TDs if this were 5 years ago

    • Huge Bears Penis

young Devin never would have been caught from behind. but damn can he still make it exciting.

  • BearDown100393

    Hester’s Last Stand?

    • Sauron’s right eyeball

The girl used to be mine?

      • BearDown100393

I suspect he’s retiring at the end of the game.

  • BearDown100393

Kyle Shanahan will be a head coach next season.

    • Huge Bears Penis

where? the only opening left is 49ers, and if I were him I would avoid that like the plague. He will have better options next year.

      • willbest

        2018 Bears

        • Huge Bears Penis

not likely, unless Fox retires after his Super Bowl Win!

      • willbest

        Calendar year ftw

      • Huge Bears Penis

My bad I suppose you mean the 2018 season not this next season.

    • BerwynBomber

Hubster claimed he should have been the #1 candidate this year, but all the teams (except SF) jumped the gun and hired candidates before the post-season was over, thus depriving themselves of the best candidates.

It was strange how the firing and hiring worked this season.

      • willbest

Playoff teams probably happy they get consistency next year to repeat

      • BearDown100393

The NFL should not allow coaching hirings until after the Super Bowl. Create a fair open field for interviewing for everyone.

  • SC Dave

    A good challenge

  • willbest

    Bobble ball

  • willbest

He might have been down though

  • BearDown100393

I think I’d want Hester’s jersey if on that field right now.

  • Huge Bears Penis

Seattle’s play on the kneel downs kind of sad and disgraceful.

    • BearDown100393

      Schiano

    • willbest

Not the first time they have disgraced themselves on a kneeldown

  • Huge Bears Penis

Brockweiler gonna earn his salary this game by kicking the snot out of NE. (I really don’t believe it, but it would be nice.)

    • willbest

The sack was just being sneaky about it

  • willbest

    Oz sucks! Cut him!

    • BearDown100393

      He does.

  • willbest

Oz isn’t the reason that they had to settle for 3 there

  • BearDown100393

    Hester speed – the 50
    Lewis speed – endzone

    Youth

  • willbest

I guess Clowney is who you look to for hope on White

  • willbest

Houston D gonna need to do more than just pick Brady the way the O and ST playing

  • Captain Obvious

What the what? Houston is putting up a fight.

Maybe sacrificing that chicken actually worked.

    • willbest

      Or Vegas

    • Sauron’s right eyeball

I almost called an upset this afternoon but said nah….can’t happen.

      • AlbertInTucson

        LONG way from that.

Let’s see how Houston handles the Patriots opening drive of the 2nd half.

  • BearDown100393

New England a bit underwhelming at the moment.

    • willbest

      Oz will throw it away

  • Captain Obvious
  • willbest

Houston’s D is playing out of its mind

    • SC Dave

They are, after all, the best D in the NFL.

And their best player has been out pretty much all year.

  • Captain Obvious

I’m pretty sure a lot of us here were sold on Mercilus. What year did the Bears fuck up and take someone else instead?

    • willbest

2012. Him and chandler jones. Though amusing Shea is starting ILB for the pats tonight

  • BerwynBomber

Did Oz throw into triple coverage there?

    • willbest

Looked more like he was just throwing it to the DB

  • Captain Obvious

Damn. Clowney almost broke Brady. Surprised the refs didn’t through a reflexive flag.

  • Captain Obvious

Guess Edelman can do OPI for freebies, eh ref?

    • SC Dave

      Its the Patriots

  • willbest

    Wow Bill pussies out

    • SC Dave

You have to take that. Too much momentum for Houston if they stuff them again.

      • willbest

I would never kick an FG from the 1 yard line. But then I am a stats guy

        • willbest

I take that back. A game winning situation, I would kick it. But this isn’t that

      • AlbertInTucson

With Houston’s offense, 3 points is huge.

  • SC Dave

Did the Pats score on a return?

    • Huge Bears Penis

      yep

      • SC Dave

        Wow… fuck that

  • AlbertInTucson

This game has stayed interesting for about a quarter longer than I expected, so far.

  • BearDown100393

    New England’s flat.

  • AlbertInTucson

Houston HAS to have those plays.

    • willbest

      Yep

  • AlbertInTucson

    Bravo, Houston.

You KNOW the Patriots and their fans expecbted to come out and march to start that 2nd half.

  • SC Dave

Jam the runs up the Pats asses

  • BearDown100393

Houston would be winning with Brian Hoyer.

    • willbest

      Probably.

      • AlbertInTucson

Hoyer is known for not turning it over.

        Not racking up points.

He is also not on the kick return coverage team.

I say it would be a wash, so far.

        • willbest

Hoyer has a 2.8% int rate which isn’t impressive and he threw 3 picks in his playoff game for Houston last year. Not that Oz hasn’t tried

        • Huge Bears Penis

unless he is the QB of the Texans during a playoff game, 4INT and 1 Fumble last year.

          • AlbertInTucson

Ergo, just because he took care of the ball for Da Bears while he was upright in 2016 is no guarantee he can repeat that performance in 2017.

    • SC Dave

Or Jordan Howard. But we be keeping that dude.

  • SC Dave

    Idiots. Run. The. Fucking. Ball.

  • SC Dave

Watching some dude and chick doing music here. Dude can play a guitar.

  • AlbertInTucson

Let’ s bring that one back.

  • willbest

Wonder which Sharp has his money on Houston to get these calls

  • AlbertInTucson

They called it hold because it WAS a hold, Jim

  • SC Dave

For all the knob slobbering Brady gets, do his receivers EVER drop the ball?

    • willbest

Hoodie will cut them on the field if they do

    • AlbertInTucson

      Floyd on that INT?

    • AlbertInTucson

      You drop it, you sit.

      • AlbertInTucson

Has there even been a Floyd sighting since that ball went off his hands?

  • AlbertInTucson

Think NE wraps this by 9p, MST?

  • willbest

Why would you build a giant robot with a flame cannon whose sole purpose is to brand Hondas

    • SC Dave

      You don’t. Its just CGI

      • willbest

You don’t know. This is the Japanese we are talking about. Could have been legit factory footage

  • SC Dave

Houston needs a TD really badly here.

  • SC Dave

    Game over.

Osweiler really does suck, and the best defense in the league is stuck with him. What a shameful waste.

    Sound familiar?

  • AlbertInTucson

    Stared. Him. Down.

  • BearDown100393

    Osweiler is terrible.

    • willbest

His 37 mil will help him sleep tonight

      • BearDown100393

        The GM should be fired.

      • AlbertInTucson

That would help ME sleep, too.

    • MB30SD

      Downward trajectory

  • AlbertInTucson

DILLINGER, with Warren Oates, is on TCM at 9p, MST.

  • willbest

So hunted is like a PG running man? When will we go legit

  • AlbertInTucson

    Tough, Tommy.

  • BearDown100393

    Marsha Brady having a hissyfit.

  • AlbertInTucson

Michael Floyd, ENDEARING himself to Bill B.

  • SC Dave

Ridiculous garbage. Consecutive 100% obvious grounding by brady and nothing

    • willbest

      Haven’t seen it any

      • SC Dave

Guess you werent watching. 20 yards short of a receiver does not count as “in the area”.

And Brady sure as fuck didnt scramble outside the tackle

    • SC Dave

Im surprised they didn’t give amendola that “catch”

  • BearDown100393

Edelman having a hissy fit now.

    • AlbertInTucson

Its what makes him so unlikeable.

      • MB30SD

LOVE that guy… Engine of that offense

        • willbest

He gets great tail. There was a girl he banged after some big win who posted a selfie with him sleeping next to her on instagram.

          • Johnnywad

You know Braverman is better. He just needs his shot.

  • AlbertInTucson

    There’s DANGER here, Houston.

  • BearDown100393

The winner of tomorrow’s AFC game should be able to beat New England.

  • SC Dave

    Wow… a play!

  • SC Dave

Based on todays games, Atlanta would beat the fuck out of New England.

    Which would suit me fine.

    • BearDown100393

New England wouldn’t beat either Kansas City or Pittsburgh for the chance to even play against Atlanta. Not based on tonight anyway.

      • AlbertInTucson

KC has not rushed the passer that well, lately.

    • Sauron’s right eyeball

I dunno…they do have chicken dinner now.

    • Atlanta really surprised me.

They played with viciousness. Attack attack attack.

  • AlbertInTucson

Or, THE HUNT FOR RED OCTORBER starting now on IFC. One of the best Submarine movies, ever.

    • willbest

Not a fan of Crimson Tide?

      • AlbertInTucson

        Its OK.

I rank RUN SILENT-RUN DEEP, DESTINATION TOKYO, OPERATION PETTICOAT and…OCTOBER ahead of it.

The books for …OCTOBER and RUN SILENT… are excellent reads, as well.

    • Looove that movie.

It’s very understated. And somehow Sean Connery’s accent fits the russian character. Go figure.

  • willbest

    1 play shea

  • SC Dave

Unbelievable that no one covered the fucking ball.

  • SC Dave

Its a fucking throw… why are they even wasting time on this?

    • willbest

      Yep

    • BearDown100393

Yeah it is obvious but it has to be milked out thoroughly for the television timeout.

    • SC Dave

      Oh wait… need more commercials!

  • BearDown100393

Bill Belichick will be the angriest head coach ever after winning a NFL playoff game.

  • BearDown100393

Amazing how the NFL existed before video replay.

  • willbest

Jesus… Oz isn’t the reason they are going to lose this

  • BearDown100393

Probably too worried about deciding on the endzone celebration.

    • willbest

He is a rookie, it was probably more of I hope I don’t fuck up

      • BearDown100393

        Well he did.

  • SC Dave

And right there is why they all suck Brady’s cock.

No fucking way his receiver EVER drops that ball.

What a giant fuck up. The play of the game so far. A drop.

  • SC Dave

That was the nail. Goodnight gents, I’m done with this shit.

    Fuck New England

    • willbest

      Int

      • Sauron’s right eyeball

Yup, Int. The other way now.

  • AlbertInTucson

    What? No flag?

  • AlbertInTucson

    Not. Even. Close.

  • willbest

    We have FG experts now?

    • BearDown100393

More like an ex-kicker nobody wants.

    • AlbertInTucson

      Oh, yeah.

They have used Feely before to explain the nuances of the on-side kick.

  • AlbertInTucson

Oh, Jay Feely. The placekick analayst.

  • AlbertInTucson

So, now we can pretend Houston has a shot.

  • willbest

Ah man.. Ringling Bros is closing for good.

    • AlbertInTucson

Part of my family’s early history.

    • BearDown100393

Mixed feelings but nostalgia and sadness dominate.

    • CanadaBear

A lot of animal activists will be happy. Can’t say that I blame them.

      • Sauron’s right eyeball

I’m still waiting for the day they let humanity out of the cage.

      • willbest

I don’t think Feld has ever lost an animal abuse case against it. In fact, they have won several multimillion judgments against animal rights groups.

The industry as a whole (circuses) has been seeing declining sales for a while, but Feld said that ticket sales dramatically declined after they retired the elephants, so capitulating to animal rights groups cost 500 people their jobs.

Lastly, I hope you are aware that animals that they can’t place in homes will be euthanized. Of course, that doesn’t really bother the likes of PETA, because they euthanize the majority of the animals turned into them. The only thing those groups really care about is that humans don’t own or use animals for anything.

        http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/02/05/pets-shelter-euthanization-rate_n_6612490.html

        • CanadaBear

Oh, I’m so sorry people lost their jobs fucking with beautiful animals. And by all means lets just keep right on abusing them because they can’t be placed.

          • willbest

Again, no proof of that. And animal rights groups have spent well over a hundred million trying to prove it.

          • CanadaBear

Who ya gonna believe, a bunch of lawyers or your lying eyes?

          • willbest

Well its obviously we have different standards for abuse. And it is very much apparent that circus animals are treated much better than 95% of the animals that become our food in terms of living conditions while alive.

          • CanadaBear

            Your compassion overwhelms me.

  • willbest

    Whelp that’s game

  • Sauron’s right eyeball

Why does the name W. Fuller ring a bell?

    • AlbertInTucson

Reminiscent of a Bear lefty QB, Wil Furrer, back in the day.

    • Huge Bears Penis

Kyle Fuller’s brother, and their other brother was drafted last year.

  • willbest

    Jeffery catches that

    • MB30SD

This draft will really test the new regime because at #7 we can theoretically draft the 2nd best WR, or best CB, OT or S.

Problem? Seems like every inside source, expert and pundit has a different favorite.

Cooper is the “safest” WR, but after him, major disagreement.
Some think White is the 2nd best, others Parker and a few even Perrimen .

    Best
CB? Tray Waynes, right? Not so fast. Kevin Johnson has come out of
nowhere and is suddenly the “darling” top CB. And some still prefer
Marcus Peters from a purely football aspect.

How about OT? Well, that seems like a clusterfuck.

Somelike Peat, others La’el (is that Kryptonian?) Collins, while others
Humphries or Flowers. And let’s not forget Scherff who many assume will
transition to OG in the NFL, but some still argue he can be an OT.

Best S seems like Collins, but SS with little coverage skills don’t go top
10, and some rank Damarious Randall ahead . A FS with cover skills.

Same with 2nd best DT. The consensus says “Shelton” but some think Malcom Brown and Jordan Phillips are superior NTs.

All these prospects will most likely be available at #7, and history says
some will be busts, so POX better be on their A game, or 3 years from
now we’ll be “Those assholes could’ve drafted ______________!”

Oh and for all you Patriot fans out dare…

“Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so. How do I know? For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar.” (Julius Caesar)

        • BearDown100393

It won’t make a difference to Bennett. Surprised both have not yet been run out of the league for their mouths.

          • CanadaBear

Pretty hard to talk your way out of the league when you’re as talented as they are. At least the Black Uni got clocked a good one in the game yesterday. Cushing laid a great block on him.

          • AlbertInTucson

Once Seattle took a cheap shot on the first kneel down, I would have tried to jam it in for another TD and run it up on them.

I can’t even fathom what it must be like to be a Pats fan. I suppose the repeat 3 peat Bulls teams but a different sport.

Pats are the most dominant SB era NFL team ever, correct? Even the Steel Curtain of the 70s or the Niners of the 80s never sustained success as long as the Pats.

    • CanadaBear

Gotta agree. Considering the salcap era and all the rules changes during BB’s reign, no doubt the Pats get the nod.

    • MB30SD

yep. there’s tons of MassHoles in san diego. TONS of them. Not sure why so many of those fucks come here, but they’re here… including my right-hand man at work and my designer.

Saw this tidbit on ESPN this morning:

“Brock Osweiler was 1-of-8 with three interceptions on passes at least 15 yards downfield Saturday. Osweiler completed 26 percent of his passes of that length this season (including the playoffs), the third-worst percentage since the start of the 2009 season. Only JaMarcus Russell (22 percent) and Brady Quinn (24 percent), both in 2009, have had a worse single-season completion percentage in that time.”

    • Waffle

yet, they still put up 16 and knocked me out of the money as i took the under. I honestly thought they would score 7pts or less against the Pats. Oz is that bad.

        • willbest

Don’t those players get broken in half or get their receivers carted off under the old rules?

    • AlbertInTucson

      …again.

  • AlbertInTucson

Wonder what the over/under will be for The Pack at Atlanta?

    • That Guy

Atlanta is a bit of a sleeper this year. Julio Jones has been playing lights out, they’ve got a solid team on both sides of the ball. They’re playing their final home game in that Stadium. They could make something happen.

  • At least Atlanta should have a real homefield crowd.

  • BearDown100393

It isn’t Atlanta vs Green Bay. It is Atlanta vs NFL.

  • Johnnywad

I never get anything I want in football. It’s just all heartbreak.

    • SC Dave

      Seattle lost. That was good.

  • Looking back at 15 draft capsule, Marcus Peters was considered the best CB but his off-field issues cost him a bit.

    NFL.com

“Weaknesses Suspended for one game in 2014 by head coach Chris
Petersen for a sideline tantrum that followed personal foul penalty. Was
ultimately dismissed from team over multiple run-ins with coaching
staff. Inconsistent with footwork and loose with technique. Lacks
patience in press and will open up early. Grabby off line of scrimmage
and downfield when beaten. Average mirror-and-match and long speed.
Overly emotional and prone to mental mistakes because of it. Slower than
expected to squeeze routes in space. Doesn’t take coaching.

Draft Projection Round 1 or 2

Sources Tell Us “I wouldn’t take him inside the first
two rounds. He’s good, but he’s not that good that I would be willing to
deal with his emotional issues.” — NFC personnel director

“The tape shows his capabilities. He can be really good if you can
control him. He’s on our board right now but there were some long talks
about him in meetings. I fought for him.” – NFC defensive backs coach

    • BerwynBomber

I really liked Peters but taking him at #7 would have taken world-class balls, especially by a young GM like Pace.

      • Esp since Pace has drummed up ‘building the right culture’

But man, in retrospect, would’ve been nice to have Peters instead of White in the tub the last two years

        • Johnnywad

Can’t get in the tub with that cast on. We’d be lucky if he only needed the tub.

Bears and Cowboys with the same number of playoff wins this year. There. My glass is half full again.

        • AlbertInTucson

  • BerwynBomber

Cheese hang on by the skin of their teeth. Helluva play by Rodgers and Cook on that third and forever.

Still can’t see them going all the way though with that D though.

As others have noted, only consolation is seeing Jerra and the Boys get punched in the gut.

    • SC Dave

Atlanta looked awful strong v a good Seahawks defense.

I don’t think the Pack can keep up.

But then, there’s Aaron effing Rodgers

      • BerwynBomber

        I agree. ATL looks fantastic.

Rodgers is Rodgers but that Cheese secondary is a mess. Plus, Rodgers even looked a tad mortal today. By his standards, at least. And there is always the potential McCarthy gag factor.

      • AlbertInTucson

Figures to be a track meet but Ryan working on that Packer secondary, as opposed to a rookie in his first post season game, should be a concern for Green Bay.

Julio Jones aggravated his foot injury late in yesterday’s game.

But Freeman and Coleman out of that Atlanta backfield pose big problems.

  • AlbertInTucson

Hope conditions STAY like this for the entire game.

Indeed. Even Rodgers knows his team isn’t that good. Though I’ll give them credit as I didn’t think they could take down DAL. But no way ATL or NE.

          • AlbertInTucson

I said before the game I thought the week off would hurt the Cowboys.

I listened to part of the game on Packer Radio and those guys were wondering why the Cowboys hadnt gone to Dez Bryant more often.

  • Waffle

Haha, collingsworth. That was actually funny.

    • BerwynBomber

Nice to see him get some Al Michaels love …

    • AlbertInTucson

He had the same rep with the Bears but never seemed to draw ANY interest as an HC candidate.

      • yeah, it’s odd. If anything, Toub was probably an even hotter commodity at the Hester height.

Same thing kinda happened to Fangio. Seemed like the NFL snubbed him, even the 9ers totally overlooked him.

I would doubt the NFL more, but they ignored Trestman to the point that he had to retreat to the CFL, and now we all painfully know why.

        • AlbertInTucson

Its not like others haven’t ascended from Special Teams Coach.

          Maybe he interviews poorly.

          • Yeah, well Trestman “out interviewed” Arians, and we all know how that turned out.

I’m very curious how Toub would do as HC. Hopefully, he gets a crack, but the 9ers are the last team this year, and they’re waiting for McDaniels most likely.

          • CanadaBear

I’ve thought that about both Toub and Fangio. They both seem a little rough around the edges (personally I like that) and might be a little too truthful for a lot of owners. That’s the only reason I can come up with why neither of these guys ever seem to get a legitimate shot at the big chair.

  • AlbertInTucson

Father Tony just admonished Ben for audibling to that pass on first and goal.

  • AlbertInTucson

SMH. Even if Smith SAW Hill in the first half, Rodgers can make that throw to his left across the field while running to his right, but Alex Smith sure can’t.

    • Johnnywad

I’ve decided the Bears need to take a pass rusher in the first round every year until Rodgers retires. It’s the only way they stand a chance.

      • BerwynBomber

How did will justify the Shea first round pick the other week? “I’d give up my first round pick every year if it meant Rodgers missed six games.”

        Sounds about right.

        • Johnnywad

Haha. I missed that one. Clever.

But yeah. I don’t see the Bears having much success against Green Bay over the remainder of his career unless there are real teeth in the pass rush. Coverage doesn’t even matter because he buys to much time and throws so goddam well on the move.

Otherwise we just have to wait until he retires. And hope they don’t have yet another HOF QB waiting on the bench.

          • BerwynBomber

They won’t have another Rodgers ….

          • Johnnywad

Two words for you: Darryl Stingley.

          • Waffle

I’m rooting for oc’s to not call plays to take advantage of bullshit unenforceable rules that are always wrong.

    Good job Andy

  • THERE’S the andy reid clock management special

  • Steelers need to call a TO

    Penalties. Kill. Seasons.

    • Huge Bears Penis

      only when they are called.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Eric Fisher. Tsk, tsk.

  • Gotta go for onside.

1st down either way ends game. At least if u recover, have good field position.

  • willbest

If you had 3 TOs Andy

    • I don’t get not going for the onsides.

First down, game over either way.

Even if they stop them, Steelers can run out 90 seconds

      • willbest

        But an FG wins it

        • The Steelers if they recovered the onside would still have needed a first down to get into FG range, and at that point, they’d have just knelt.

          Might all be moot anyways.

  • BearDown100393

    Run backwards. Brilliant.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Yeah, run backwards.

    That always helps.

  • willbest

I don’t think that the Steelers deserve to win this.

    • BearDown100393

Deserve’s got nothin’ to do with it.

      • AlbertInTucson

        Thank you, Clint.

  • AlbertInTucson

The game IS set up for the Steelers to have dominated but still lose because they couldn’t stick even ONE into the endzone.

  • It’s Haley. Of course they’re throwing it.

  • willbest

Like that call go for the win

    • AlbertInTucson

If they don’t make a first down, KC has plenty of time to get into FG range, regardless, so I have no problem with that call.

  • 90% chance Haley will throw it again.

  • willbest

    Game over

  • BearDown100393

    Stay. In. Bounds.

    • AlbertInTucson

In this case, it doesn’t matter.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Ballgame.

  • Game. Blouses.

  • How much did KC miss Jammal Charles in the playoffs?

And he may never be the same again either.

Think this was KCs best chance.

Hopefully, Berry recognizes that, and jumps ships.

    • willbest

Charles will be an FA next year. No way KC pays him 7 mil

      • BerwynBomber

What was his deal this year? Another knee injury?

        • Huge Bears Penis

same knee never completely healed, came back too soon.

  • AlbertInTucson

Even if they made the 2 pointer, I submit the Steelers just kick another FG as time expires.

    • madscout12

That’s fine. Just make them do it. You don’t call that holding call to decide the game.

Oh wait, you do if it bennefits the steelers, pats, or pack

      • puke

      • AlbertInTucson

        He tackled the guy.

        • madscout12

Tell me KC gets that call if the roles are flipped

          • AlbertInTucson

            Meh.

They called the obvious personal foul on the Steelers to set up the TD drive.

They have to call the obvious holding penalty which wasthe only reason Smith had time to find that receiver.

          • BerwynBomber

Yeah, I don’t think either DAL or KC lost because of the zebras. Thought the striped shirts guys did all right today. Also helped that Jeff Triplette was let nowhere near the playoffs.

Anyway, GB and PIT just made a few more plays. KC was a bit fortunate to nearly steal their game.

          • MB30SD

They def do, he was mauled

      • MB30SD

Dude, as al said, fischer made it impossible for the guy NOT to call it. He could have won a fucking WWF match with that move.

That said, they made UP a fucking call to try and give the packers the game today. smmfh

        • BerwynBomber

The PI call on DAL? Mildly touchy but the DAL DBs got away with a ton of holding during that game.

Anyway, Cheese will go down next Sunday. No way that secondary of theirs will hold up against Ryan and his weapons.

          • MB30SD

The invented call that no one had ever heard of was ridiculous. A 50 yard swing… Come on man. Refs plainly shouldn’t be allowed to have that much influence on a game unless that infraction directly and totally has an impact on the play. That call was bullshit

      • SC Dave

A small subset of franchises repeatedly get the game changing calls.

        Follow the money.

  • If the Steelers or Pats were to play either the Falcons or Puke next week, both would lose regardless of venue.

  • who needs TDs!? Not the Steelers.

What an odd result. KC scores more TDs than Steelers and still lose.

  • Bell has a super hero haircut.

  • MB30SD

that unnecessary roughness flag was BUUUUULLSHEEEEEEIIIIIITTTT!

Fucking football isn’t football anymore. What a joke.

    • AlbertInTucson

      Chill

      • MB30SD

Nah, you should get a little more upset about it. The game is starting to suck more every year… It’s not just us.

When all fans chill too much you end up with a different product. Sad.

        • It’s inevitable regardless of outrage.
We all know football is going to only suck more every year.

          Sad, but true.

          • Big Mike

I don’t think the rule changes suck. Helmet to the head of a receiver isn’t necessary. Those types of shots, have ripple affects down to the talent pool at the HS and College level.

          • The thing is, the S was coming in like a missile trying to hit the WR as hard as possible in the goaline with the game/season on the line, deep in the endzone crowd roaring, playoff intensity.

He instinctively lowered down his head for more momentum, and unfortunately for him, cracked the helmet not the ribs or shoulder.

and it worked. The hit dislodged the ball from the WR.

I think it would’ve worked if he had hit his ribs, but then he would’ve prolly got flagged for “spearing” or unnecessary roughness.

In other words, the only alternative is that he lets him catch it and kinda wrestles him down at the 1 yd.

            I guess that’s what football’s turned into.

I get the rational for the flag, but considering the moment and how fast everyone was flying, just deflating.

Maybe the NFL should be more loose on the rules in the playoffs since there’s only like 3-4 weeks of those.

          • Big Mike

            Lead with your shoulder.

            Get Outlook for iOS

        • willbest

I tend to agree with Waffle though, I think QB’s shouldn’t be allowed to make throws that leave a receiver defenseless. At the very least the spots on those throws should be highly favorable to the defense. As in you give something up for the extra protection same with sliding.

Or deny run after the catch, or something.

          • MB30SD

            Slippery slope

  • BerwynBomber

Hate to say this but DAL is going to be a fucking load the next few years. Dak’s the real deal, that OL is far from ancient, Old Sauce will get a few extra players for his D, and the Elliot is basically Howard with speed.

    • MB30SD

They need to focus on D for the next two years

      • They’ve been looking for that Tommie Harris or Peppers type for a few years now, but they keep flaming out (like Gregory).

Once they get that premiere pass rusher, and another ILB (who is not made of glass), they’ll really become a force.

    • Johnnywad

Meh. We’ll see. They won four games a year ago. Two months ago we thought the Vikings were all that too. I’m not crowning anybody anymore. The ups and downs of the NFL are hard to predict.

  • That Guy

Eric Fisher is the best counter-example to the theory that tanking for draft picks is a good plan. Look at that draft. We took Kyle Long at #20 and there really isn’t anyone that went before him that has been notably better till now. The big decision back then was Joekel or Fisher; and you look at the draft, the top 10 was all about OL. Turns out we got lucky some of the “better” players were already taken. You just never know.

Dallas also a great counter-example with that O-line of “overdrafted” players.

    • BerwynBomber

Did KC intentionally tank that season? I don’t recall that (though I saw Blogfather mention it as well).

      • Johnnywad

I doubt they tanked to grab Fisher. I think his point is that picking earlier rather than later in the first is no sure thing. And the pain of losing that many games isn’t worth the gamble that Eric Fisher turns out to be better than Kyle Long. At least that’s how I read it. It’s also how I see the draft so I may be seeing what I want to in his post.

        • willbest

Of you pick at 20 you have to be lucky and good to get elite talent. If you pick at 3 you only need to be good.

    • Big Mike

Fisher plays LT, Long plays RG. Big difference. I don’t know about tanking games… But Fisher is a stud at the 2nd most valuable position on offense.

      • BerwynBomber

“the 2nd most valuable position on offense”

Never thought of it that way but you could be right. I suppose C is right up there too.

        • willbest

Whoever is opposite your opponents best pass rusher is the 2nd most important position. A good center is the grease that keeps the machine running. So he is probably no less than 3rd

          • Big Mike

No doubt, but it seems like the Bears always have good Centers. Best Pass rusher still usually comes from the blind side. The “specs” on left tackles run into some darwinian shit. There just aren’t that many humans that are that big, strong, fast with extremely long arms and have the proper mindset to be an LT.

          • Yeah, the LT pool is slim.

W rushers, they can come in two basic packages. The Watt/Peppers type. Prototypical 6’6 280 long, mean, explosive, strong

Or the 6’4 240ish insane bend/twitch Von Miller type.

Even 3-4 types, if one counts the Suh/Donald DT mold.

But ALL LTs must fit that darwinian prototype – 6’6ish 34 inch + arms; great feet. Mauler mentality. Great leverage; balance. Tech.

That shit is SUPER rare, maybe the rarest NFL mold there is.

That’s why teams are taking frequent flyers on guys like Fant who hadn’t even played football since youth!

            http://www.sbnation.com/2016/10/27/13434732/george-fant-seattle-seahawks-offensive-tackle-starting-bradley-sowell

          • Big Mike

Not only that, besides being a mauler, they are expected to just take whatever the DE/LB/DT throws at them on Pass Blocking. So they have to have a team first, sacrifice your body mentality. They can win on 95% of their snaps and be called out by fans who don’t know better for having a bad game.

        • Big Mike

Left Tackles can make or break an offense. Right Tackles you can buy with. There are an abundance of adequate guards and centers. We’ve got 3 studs. Pretty happy with OL. Could upgrade at OT. 1 spot. But the question is at what cost? Need to go after a Free Safety, more d-line talent, re-sign Alshon, pray to GSH that White can live up to being the 7th pick of the draft and luck into this year’s Dak Prescott 🙂

          • BerwynBomber

Agreed again. I argue that if you have 3/5 (which the Bears have) of an outstanding O-line, you’re doing pretty well in today’s NFL. And it’s not like Leno and Massie are complete dogshit.

If the next Anthony Munoz is on the board you take him, but otherwise an OL pick this year seems a luxury we can’t afford (unless we plan on addressing a majority of other issues via free agency).

          • Big Mike

The elephant in the room is QB. Watching the playoffs yesterday was like watching a different sport. I’m starting to really understand what Pace was saying when he said all options were on the table. What he meant was he has no frickin clue on what he’s going to do at QB. I’ve seen everything from keeping cutler to signing Kapernick (I picked what I perceive to be the 2 least popular options) bouncing around online. The only thing I think I understand is that if a QB they like doesn’t have a low to mid first round grade independent of his position, they shouldn’t take him.

          • We have 3 studs AND 2 solid backups in Larsen and Kush.

The swing OT is what kinda worries me, so would’nt mind an upgrade there.

When Adams came in at RT, he made Massie look like an AP.

God forbid if Leno goes down.

Need to invest in a high-upside OT

    • And Berry is the counter-counter example of how high draft picks can pan out.

A high draft pick just means a GM is given more opportunity to hit home runs. It’s still up to the GM to square up and swing.

Angelo struck out too many times, and is now out of the league.

Let’s hope Pace at least hits a few triples.

  • Bears-4-Ever

KC and Steelers both looked pathetic compared to New England. Neither of those teams had a chance in hell vs the Patriots. The Steeler’s Defense better put Brady on his butt every other play because he’s going to shred them if they don’t.

Once Again Rogers pulls a win out his butt. Even though I felt Dallas was over-rated Rogers took some serious licks and kept going. Can they beat the Falcons? Not sure at this point but can they beat the Pats? That’s the question. I’m telling you what a suck-hole SB it would be to watch the Pats, a team I hate, vs. GB, a team I hate… Cruel Football fates!!! I HATE YOU MOST OF ALL.

    • SC Dave

      Atlanta is winning next week.

      • Bears-4-Ever

I hope so. If they do, I think Ryan is a shoe in for NFL MVP.

        • BerwynBomber

Ryan should win the MVP regardless, but they should change that award’s name to Most Outstanding. If it is Most Valuable, it has to be Rodgers — he goes down and the Cheese are a load of shit. Ryan or Brady goes down and the Falcons and Pats are still arguably .500 teams — in fact we know this with the Pats. They were 3-1.

But semantic debate aside, Rodgers was brilliant the last half of the season but only so-so the first half, and Brady was the incredible machine he almost always is but he missed 25% of the year.

          Hence, gotta go with Ryan.

    • willbest

NE only blew that out because the Houston O was awful. Steelers will probably make a game of it. But Atlanta and GB O are playing lights out. And Atlanta D has been beastly to end the season.

Rap reported on twitter that this was the first time are four conference teams had 4+ game winning streaks heading into the weekend though. So lots of TWTW

      • ATL D has been somewhat underrated.

Perhaps the stats throw ppl off, but when the offense blows the doors off, the other team’s O racks up cheap yds-scores towards the end of games when ATL is playing less aggressive.

And unlike Dallas, ATL will have a true homefield advantage. That place will be electric.

Matty Ice is as hot as any QB too, but for some reason, I always expect him to crash when it matters most.

    • Big Mike

Wouldn’t bet against the Packers. Rodgers is the MVP. They ought to just name the trophy after him, because without him the Packers aren’t even a .500 team.

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/watch-incredible-sequence-led-packers-010738771.html

I know the kicks to tie and win it were insane but this play is amazing on a couple of levels.
    1. Rodgers rolls left but that little hesitation and then rolling the last few feet before flicking that ball down the field allows Cook to gain a little more separation and so Rodgers can fit it in that window.
    2. The blocking was perfect on the backside and the front side.
    3. Watch Cook measure his strides and keep looking down as he neared the sideline so he could stay in bounds….then he holds onto it while keeping both feet down and keeping his knees off of the ground by 3 inches.

    Holy Fuck.

    • MB30SD

      • Big Mike

Rodgers is ridiculously good. The Packers are a horse shit team without him. I’d argue he’s better than Brady.

        • Scharfinator

As much as it galls me to admit it, I think you’re right. At least when Rodgers is hot.

          • Big Mike

Every situation he’s in when their is pressure is like “no problem”. 3rd and 20 he gets 36, by putting the ball in a spot about 12 inches wide, while he’s on the run. Jordy Nelson out, no big deal. He made the Cowboys defense look like the Bears’ JV defense that we trotted out there this year.

          • Our JV defense shut the Puke out until the 3rd. Right around the same time fucktard broke Hoyer’s arm.

            Then, the dam broke.

          • BerwynBomber

True but that’s back when the Cheese O was still scuffling, though historically Lovie and his C2 kept Rodgers somewhat in check.

        • BerwynBomber

Agreed. Rodgers is the best I’ve ever seen. But you can’t be the GOAT with one ring. And I don’t think the Cheese are good enough for him to pull them there (though they probably were two years ago).

So for now it’s Brady and Montana, and maybe Unitas and Graham in the way back machine.

          • Big Mike

I don’t by the Championship’s to be GOAT thing in football. Denying the Packers the SB is all I’m hoping for. Riding them about only getting 1 SB win, while having Rodgers is something I enjoy. Like “how the fuck do you only win one SB with one of the best QBs in NFL history?”. Bears would have won in 2006 and 2010 with Rodgers. Or so my argument goes.

          • BerwynBomber

Fuck, we would have had three or four rings with Rodgers coupled with those Lovie D’s and Toub’s STs.

But, like it or not, GOAT criteria for QBs is largely based on rings. I have no doubt that if you drop Rodgers on the Pats for his career (or for that matter Brees) that he wins as many rings as Brady. But those are the breaks.

(Hell, Belichick might have been able to even squeeze a ring out of Cutler for all I know.)

          • MB30SD

            yep, agree

          • Dunno about rings = GOAT.

I guess rings do sway arguments, but some still make strong arguments for Marino, and they usually go like how you said, “If you drop Marino into the Pats or 70s Steelers…”

          • Irish Sweetness

Isn’t the QB the guy that generally gets you there? Did Joe or Tom go on the back of awesome defenses? If you’ve got four rings, you’re probably doing something right.

The knock on Marino was that he was as dumb as a pig BTW.

          • Irish Sweetness

Those two … and 87/88 with Joe Cool. If Jerry Rice was drafted by Cleveland, I don’t know how much you’d hear about him. But Joe put the ball where it needed to be.

I am fine with Green Bay beating the Cowboys, but after all, it’s Dallas.

And all will be fine when Atlanta beats them next week.

      • MB30SD

that’s what I told him when he was gloating… I said, you’re just building your expectation and hope more, just to have matty ice crush them into tiny little pieces next week. then I blew him a kiss because I was wearing a powder blue tutu

        • Sauron’s right eyeball

          Green not your color? Hahahaha

          • MB30SD

    • I generally find that Packer fsns don’t hate the Bears nearly ss much as the reverse.
For various reasons, but mostly because we’re the Fredo of the family.
Not dirty or Machiavellian, merely an incompetent buffoon that can’t pull anything off and u pat on the head

      • MB30SD

        sigh… yep.

If we were consistently good, they’d hate us as much. We’re just not good enough.

      • Huge Bears Penis

20 years of HOF QB play helps out a bit.

        • MB30SD

          brutal.

My cowboys fan buddy was like… how the fuck do you play against this asshole twice a year… as your hated rival.

I then reminded him about the dovetail from farve, and he was like, “……damn dude.”

      • Sauron’s right eyeball

In the 80’s they hated the Bears. Trust me.

    RIP Eugene Cernan.

Though maybe not for Trac… maybe Trac is looking for some personal journal that might contain a hint of something different.

God Speed Gene. We’re saying goodbye to heroes here. Not many left. Last dude on the moon.

Oh and I don’t know if this has been covered, but I suspect it was Clay that burned Rodgers house to the ground when he found out about Erin seeing Cobb on the side. But you know Rodger will forgive him, because it was just roid rage.

    • BearDown100393

Vadgers set the fire himself because some women just like to watch the world burn.

      • Huge Bears Penis

I got to agree, Erin is just a drama queen.

  • BearDown100393

    Vadgers is pure evil.

  • So, earlier in the year, I commented that I don’t know who the Oline coach was, but that he was doing a good job (making Leno/Massie servicable, progressing Whitehair, Sitton essentially coming in with no reps, Kush/Larsen bullying the Vikings).

So naturally, we let him go and bring in…a former Lion’s coach.

Scrolling down we find that divisional weekend ratings were down 3%. Wonder if cap numbers might not climb as greatly as projected

    • Biggs stated in the Trib after the firing that many players had issues with him.

He was one of 4 guys they had working with the OL. As far as I know, the other 3 are all coming back. Shouldn’t be a huge deal, IMO.

  • Here’s a rather up-to-date FA list.
Obviously not all will hit the market, but go ahead and indulge your dream.

    http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/nfl/68498/309/2017-nfl-free-agent-list

    Can play an FA game.

Name 1 safety (beside Berry) on that list you’d like on the Bears
Name 1 Dlinemen (aside of Poe and Campbell)
    Name 1 CB (any)

    • BerwynBomber

Alshon is the poster boy for FAs? Interesting choice.

CBs — I might see what Kirkpatrick or Amakumura cost.

In terms of safeties, I’ve always liked the Cheese’s Hyde, but he is kind of do-it-all Troy Brown type who is more a Pro Bowl-level back-up (if such a thing existed) than a kickass starter; i.e., a type of player that might not fit on a 3-13 team.
