• 2 catches for 9 yards this year. He should fit right in with Chicago’s current cast of WRs.

  • On a more serious note, he had 800 yards last year. Seems like a competent NFL WR. Not a stud, but a solid piece. I think Bears goal is to get 4 of those type players. He should be able to be re-signed easily after this year if he and Trubisky click, and that would give them 2 (with Meredith). Then get 1 in FA and 1 in the draft.

    • Bear Instincts
      • 7th round pick

      • willbest

That probably means if he is our #1 WR by the end of the year they get a 5th

        • Irish Sweetness

We’ll put a bow on it. Just grab an OT or two, and fcuk the draft.

Very very good question. It can’t be football related. Something stinks.

I guess we’ll find out when he tries to hold up a Buffalo Liquor store with his cock in his hand.

          • Irish Sweetness

58 receptions .. wow .. did not know that. Chargers are kind of stacked at receiver, or were. They had Tyrell, Keenan, Travis, Dontrelle … anyone else? Oooh .. Antonio Gates .. Hunter Henry. Jeez.

      • certainly seems to have grown into a solid role. That’s a nice progression for a UDFA. Earn a role in year 2, establish bigger role in year 3.

They thought enough of him to hit him with a 2nd round tender this offseason to ensure they didn’t lose him. Then they drafted a WR in round 1 and Inman got hurt in camp, seems to have lost his role.

        • WP4Life

Thanks for rest of the picture.

( I feel like a starved rabid bears fan)

        • SC Dave

Inman replaced an injured starter (Keenan Allen), and stepped up. Now that the starter is back, he was not seeing the field.

        • Irish Sweetness

I forgot about Mike Williams! I think he’s back this week or next. Wow, they had a lot of good receivers handy.

    • Irish Sweetness

He’ll look like a stud on the Bears, Data. Looks like a 4 or 5 grab,100+ yards,1 TD guy.

      Playoffs guaranteed boys.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

I have liked what I have seen out of Wright so far this year. Although it may just be the case that a shiny turd is just standing out.

      • If they are willing to play their best pass catchers consistently, they now have 4 NFL-caliber options in Inman, Wright, Miller, and Cohen.

        • Irish Sweetness

And can you imagine we still had Deonte? Damn.

YES!!!!!! What a difference a day makes!

          • Thompson has been in the NFL for 6 years now and has yet to hit 1000 career receiving yards.

          • willbest

He wouldn’t be the Irish we know and love if he didn’t fall in love with #5/6 WRs

          • Irish Sweetness

I’m fucking ecstatic!! We were staring into the abyss at WR .. . now we have no excuses .. anywhere.

Okay .. . tackle. But it’s hard not to be excited about NEXT YEAR for the big one. This season will still be fun.

I’ve just had a word with G-d, and he said he’ll ease off on the injuries.

          • Irish Sweetness

Opportunities Data. If he was our #1 he would get his 1000. He’s good.

            Doesn’t matter now

Great hands, height, speed. He’s just buried on that roster behind other big, fast guys. Well doen Ryan. Wow.

    (sprints off to waiver wire)

    • Joecashflow

Yeah, he looked like a stud on the highlight film last year. Over 100 yds against Saints. Put him in. Gentry on other side. Send em both !

  • Irish Sweetness

HE COST US A SEVENTH ROUNDER!!!!

    Well done, Ryan Pace!

    • Bear Instincts

I wounder how this affects the draft considering that our depth chart this off season will be K.White, K.Wright, T.Gentry, J.Bellamy & C.Meredith

      • willbest

I think Wright is on a 1-year 2 mil deal. Wheaton is on a 3-year 15 mil deal or so.

        • Bear Instincts

Wheaton is as good as gone

          • Irish Sweetness

            Who?

          • Bear Instincts

            Exactly

        • Wheaton’s deal is 2/$11M, but they have only $750k dead money if he doesn’t make the roster next year.

          • willbest

That’s good. Although it means out WR group next year has 6 question marks. 5, if Cam comes back from his ACL

      • SC Dave

        K. White is very likely a bust.

        • Bear Instincts

Pace picked him. He will stick around as an extra body

          • willbest

That and we literally have nobody at that position.

      • Irish Sweetness

        OH SHIT!!! CAM!!!

        WOOOOOOOOOOOHHHH!!

        1. Dontrelle
        2. Cam
        3. Kendall
        4. Bellamy
        5. Gentry and McBride duke it out.

        Where’s the superbowl next year?

        • willbest

If we were in the same room I would slap you. That is not an NFL caliber receiving room

          • Irish Sweetness

31 teams would have better rosters than that? With Mitch it most certainly is ‘NFL-caliber’.

          • willbest

Yep. And why are you convinced a guy that hasn’t won a game with more than 15 passing attempts elevates the WRs?

        • Bear Instincts

          2018 Depth Chart
          1. C.Meredith K.White,
          2. D.Inman
          3. K.Wright
          4. T.Gentry
          5. J.Bellamy

          6. K.White/ Rookie WR

          • willbest

What are you? Irish’s younger brother?

There are some WR FAs to be had.

          • Bear Instincts

so who is the odd man out if we add a FA WR and a Rookie WR? Possibly Bellamy and maybe White

          • willbest

The odd man out? Nobody on that list is a lock to make the roster next year.

Cam might not be the same guy from 2015.

Inman did good work with Rivers in relief, but there is a reason he isn’t getting on the field this year.

The current HC/OC hate Wright for some reason. Maybe the next HC feels different

They like Bellamy for ST, but if they can get a gunner that doesn’t have bricks for hands they will upgrade him.

            Gentry is a JAG

White is a JAG they owe money to, but its not a lot of money, and he isn’t a STer so he is your WR#4. If they find a guy they like better they will go that route.

          • Bear Instincts

            1. Cam was ascending. He would have been the #1 this season so he stays there.

            2. Wright is good in the middle so he is a safety blanket for MT10.

            3. Inman looks like a solid contributor over the middle as well.

            4. White stays only because Pace drafter him

If we add a FA WR and draft a Rookie WR that chart will change but not by much. Cam, Wright and Inman have experience. White wold be in the same boat as the rookie.

            https://boards.atlantafalcons.com/topic/4053531-best-potential-2018-nfl-free-agents-by-position-strong-qb-wr-classes/

Allen Robinson (Jacksonville) and Jarvis Landry (Miami) were each drafted toward the bottom of the second round in 2014 and have been to the Pro Bowl in each of their first two seasons. To retain both next year, the Jaguars and Dolphins might have to pay each as if they’re No. 1 receivers. That could cost $14 million a year (or more), or the teams might have to use the franchise tag on each to
prevent them from hitting the market.

A sleeper in the group is Davante Adams (Green Bay), who played at a Pro Bowl level last season. He will be only 25.

The 2014 draft had incredible receiving talent in the first round. Sammy Watkins (Buffalo), Mike Evans (Tampa Bay), Odell Beckham Jr. (New York Giants), Brandin Cooks (New England) and Kelvin Benjamin (Carolina) are all expected to get their fifth-year options exercised unless they can get extensions.

options exercised unless they can get extensions.

When Antonio Brown (Pittsburgh) signed his five-year deal this month, it pushed the receiving market to the range of $17 million a year. One or two of the first-round receivers mentioned above could top Brown’s deal.

          • I doubt most of those will be available.

Allen Robinson – maybe considering that the Jags will likely finally dump Bortles, they may decide to start fresh.

Robinson is more of a #2 – more or less similar to Cam. Also coming off IR

Jarvis Landry – interesting prospect. Rumored to be traded, so may not return to MIA.

But, do we really need ANOTHER 5’11 WR?

Adams. We all know his game. One of those “benefited from Vadgers?” guys.

Watkins. If the Rams don’t re-sign him, something’s up.
Also, he’s been INJ prone. Don’t think Pace will stomach another inj prone WR.

Evans. He’s not going anywhere, but he’d be #1 in the off-chance.

ODB. Who’s to say? That franchise is a mess, and I have a sneaking suspicion they’re trying to reset, including getting rid of Eli.

I even heard a possible trade scenario of Eli to Broncos. Never know.

And ODB is the most prima-donna of WRs right now.

That’s one strike (See Bmarsh, Alshon, Bennett…)

He’ll be expensive, that’s strike 2 for cheap ass Pace.

Cooks – explosive. Saints connection. But kinda like with Adams. Brees/Brady effect. Upgrade for sure though, but dunno if I’d break the bank.

Benji. Doubt he leaves, but he’d be my 2nd choice behind Evans.
            Big bodied athletic.

          • Tortured Bear fan

I´d Love Benjamin, think will be cheaper than Evans will, however Cooks would be a better fit with Meredith as #2. and draft a WR anyway.

          • Yeah i agree. NONE of our current WRs are safe.
Pace still needs to draft or sign a true #1.

          • Irish Sweetness

I still haven’t given up on White. I’d give any receiver 3 years to show. He has been injured and out a lot ….. we’ll see.

          • willbest

He has had 3 years, next will be his 4th

          • Irish Sweetness

            WE’RE GOOD!

  • FWIW, a former NFL agent proposed this earlier today as a deadline deal that would make sense. He thought fair compensation was a 6th round pick. So in that sense, Bears did well only giving up a 7th.

    • willbest

Its conditional though right? So it has a chance to increase if he starts playing well.

      • Irish Sweetness

What does ‘well’ mean? How much for how much? It could only go as high as 4, and we have two of those …

      • I think the conditional is that they only get the pick if certain thresholds are met. But I haven’t found details about that.

        • Irish Sweetness

          Even better.

  • willbest

Slow down a bit. I doubt we see much out of him until after the bye. He won’t have any timing with Trubisky. It does help that he had a solid QB to learn from.

    • Irish Sweetness

Deonte went to BUF and did it straight away. Mitch will just put it up in his general direction.

I hope Dowell knows which direction this guy needs to go in.

  • Who has two thumbs and suggested a few months ago that the chargers have a few WRs who Pace should trade for?
    This guy.
Love that Pace is not complacent and that he realized this current WR group was stunting Trub.
Even if it doesn’t pan out. At worst Inman is a #2

    • willbest

That isn’t fair to say. This receiving group was stunting Glennon too.

      • One could argue Glennon can’t grow anymore regardless of cast. In fact it looked like he grew progressively worse.
It’s like buying new tires for a pinto.

        • Nancy Glennon

Why do you have to kick Mikey when he is down? You guys are like a pack of lions going after a giraffe with a broken leg and can’t defend himself.

      • WP4Life

Glennon has/had no further growth to stunt.

      • BearDown100393

Jerry Rice would not have been able to make Giraffe any better.

        • willbest

So you are saying Jerry Rice is worse than VJax or Mike Evans?

        • SC Dave

          Oh yes he would have

They do have a shitload, don’t they. And Mike Williams coming back from injury, the rook 1st rounder.

      • They do and they never have enough balls esp when they mix Hunter and Gates into the pot.
And they all had decent size and production.
He won’t make a huge difference right away but down the line.
Just gotta win ugly for like another month then unleash

        • Irish Sweetness

Wait, the Chargers D is going off .. .they have Melvin … well, we may meet them in the Superbowl …. Dontrelle can round off his fairy tale with the winning TD.

          • And the WR I was interested in was Denario Alexander – a 6’5 230 beast – but I think he was too inj riddled.

They really do well with WRs

Cam’s immature and wears his entitlement as brazenly as one of his post-game colorful suits and hats.

He conducts himself more like a WR than a QB. The contrast between him and guys like Wilson and Watson is striking. The diva stuff overfloweth. Comparatively speaking.

    Inman wears #15?

Bellamy – take off that jersey. You are now #12.

Maybe you will play better wearing Broadway Joe’s number.

    • SC Dave

Inman is not good enough to make any demands about his jersey number – the whole concept is ridiculous.

Maybe, however, if he asks nicely…

      • They normally pay for #s.

But it’s not as Inman is a brandname.

      • SC Dave

This is what I’m guessing too.

HOWEVER, it’s not like you must attain a degree from MIT to know how to run a a Go-route or runblock. Inman can come immediately and run a few routes which could provide big plays or back-off the S (go-route, post, post/corner).

Takes some timing for that but not like option routes (as if we ever run option routes anyways).

    • Malice Halice

I hope Mitchell pickin him up from da airport. Get this rapport started ASAP!

  • Cooper

What’s freaky deaky about all these Harvey Weinstein stories is not just that he is too fat to standfuck.

But that he eats pussy no matter what, regardless of time of the month and then always finished off with hand usually into a potted plant. Is there a name for that? A pot sticker? Red bearded pot sticker?

Clearly we need Da Coach to clarify

    • beninnorcal

Is that true? Nasty. Pot sticker sounds appropriate, lol

    • SC Dave

No shit… where is Da Coach when we need him?

    • It’s all part of the plan

It will be interesting to see which assistants helped out and knew. This was a team operation. A bunch or guys and girls will go down for this. Literally…Figuratively?

    • Scharfinator

      MB probably knows….

    • CanadaBear

Angie Everhardt said she was in Cannes during the film fest and was staying on a boat. Harvey burst in, pounded his pud and left. When she told people the next day they all said, “That’s just Harvey”. That’s fucked up.

  • Malice Halice

Cohen is so explosive but I’m gettin this feeling I should start Inman! I think he will shine in da dome.

    • CanadaBear

Be careful there. He might not play at all or very sparingly until he’s a little more familiar with the playbook.

  • BerwynBomber

Inman seems solid. A nice, smooth route runner seems his best attribute from the highlight video. Has some slink to his hips.

Btw, on that one long TD against HOU (where they iso the route in replay) I wondered if the HOU S who bit on his move at the second level was Demps. Kinda made me smile thinking it was.

  • leftcoastdave

Not “going for it” in 2017?

    Surely you jest.

Jeff, I said this before the season started. The trenches win the NFC North as a general rule. Yea, Mr. Rogers and all skews that, but the trenches are Big 10, NFC North climate kind of football, ok?

Da Bears OWN da trenches and da D7.

We will win at least 9 games and most likely win the division.

Not going for it indeed. Shesh.

    • BerwynBomber

I like our trenches too. You talked about them early in the year as the best in the division and I agreed with you. (But I would add that both MIN and DET upgraded their Olines in the offseason.)

And yup, the Rodgers injury changed everything. While the cat’s away … etc.

But MIN worries me. Their D still seems big league. L. Murray can do a reasonable turn as a feature back. And Keenum has been sprinkled with McCown circa ’13 pixie dust. (And Keenum, like McCown then, is proving himself to be the best backup in in the league. A heckuva unremarked signing by MIN.)

Plus, they already have a victory over us. At Soldier no less, which will be doubly tough to overcome.

But hey, even a 7-9 season will seem thrilling after our last three eyesores.

      • leftcoastdave

BB. 7? No, 9 minimum. The 3 we have. Add 2 for the 9ers and Browns. That’s 5. The Pack? Make that 6. That leaves us with 2 games with the tamed Lions, a return game with the Viqueen who beat Mitchell in his first game ever in the NFL and that defeat will be remembered on the last day of the season after Mitchell gets the whole play book and another receiver, or two, or three knowing the route tree.

That is likely 9 Wins. If not, we have the Aints, the Iggles, and the Bengles left to get 1, 2 or 3 from.

9 is the floor. The division is there for the taking.

        • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

I would be hesitant to expect any wins outside of 9ers and Browns. At least not until we show some competency on the offense. As for the Pack or Minn both teams are ‘Matt Flynn’ (400+yds 6 TD )type performances from backup QBs away from winning any game.

      • SC Dave

Fuck Minnesota. We would have beaten them already except for a ridiculous holding call on Howard’s TD run.

  • That Guy

Some mope on ESPN was saying the Bears should get Martavis Bryant for a 5th rounder.

I’d take that deal in a heartbeat.

    • SC Dave

I wouldn’t take him for free.

      • AlbertInTucson

Tomlin said he’s not going anywhere .

The Steelers have BENCHED him for this week, too, for being a social media knucklehead.

        • Irish Sweetness

Trying to raise his price tag?

    • AlbertInTucson

He’s already accomplished being suspended for a year.

When he’s played this year, he’s NOT been good.

He probably won’t even suit up Sunday because he was taking shots at his replacement on social media.

    • For a 5th, I’d take him.

IMO there’s something rotten in denmark. There’s something going on in Pitts.

Between Roth saying he’s pondering retiring, AB knocking over gatorades on the sideline, this….

I feel like maybe Bryant wants out of that.

He can’t be a bigger primadonna crazier than Bmarsh or Bennett.

IF our coaching staff is strong, they could handle him.

    • AlbertInTucson

He has already served a year suspension.

When he’s played this year, he’s NOT been good.

He probably won’t even suit up Sunday because he was taking shots at his replacement on social media.

    • AlbertInTucson

      “Some mope on ESPN …”

That really doesn’t narrow the field, much.

    • Irish Sweetness

That would be a roster: Martavis, Dontrelle, Cam … and whoever else, don’t care. That’s three amigos right there.

  • AlbertInTucson

Cam did his best “spoiled little girl routine”, again, today.

  • Few Inman Butch scouting notes.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pz18owfGK00

    – Catches with hands.

This may seem a given for a WR, but you’d be surprised how many wait for the ball to come to their body as opposed to snatching it with their hands. This is instinctive, and he looks like a natural catcher who attacks the ball and high-points it.

    – Smooth route runner

He just looks smooth out there. Nothing labored. Breaks when and where he’s supposed to. Savvy. Setting up CBs for double moves. Doesn’t have the greatest acceleration or separation, but it’s enough esp when coupled with his snatching hands. Rivers called him “Mr. Dependable” and this is why.

    – Good enough speed + YAC

His pro day 40 was 4.47 and he looks about that on tape. Perhaps not Tyreek Hill speed, but good enough, esp when paired with his route running. He should instantly become our biggest deep threat as I’m sure he’s used to bombs from Rivers.

His tape also shows he’s not just content with Olsen-ing it. He’s more Bmarsh fighting for every inch, trying to get as much yards after catch as possible, and he looks pretty good at it.

    – Extends plays.

Rivers is known for slinging it, and sometimes when the play breaks down and it’s playground ball, Inman is there extending plays coming back to his QB.

Needless to say, this will be a geat benefit for Trub once the launch point breaks down, and he must move. I don’t know how many teams Trub began running and the WRs just sorta stopped. That’s why kept forcing it to Miller who was likely the only one still trying to make plays or getting any sort of separation.

    – Good body control/awareness

    Self explanatory.

    – Measurables are solid.

    6’3 – 200. 4.47 40.

    ——Negatives

    – Tall, but thin. Not exactly Dez Bryant build. He kinda has a Cam Meredith build.

    – Inj prone? Maybe related to above, but I vaguely remember him being sidelined by various small INJs (groin/core muscle) but would have to check up.

    – Is he more of a slot type and not a true X/Z?

    —–Conclusion

Overall, a solid add. He instantly becomes are best WR, though that might be damning with faint praise.

Perhaps his biggest attribute is that he’s professional and athletic. I also love the energy he shows. He went undrafted and had to claw his way up the depth chart so he has that dog in him. Chargers also always seem to coach up WRs. My biggest question with him would be health, but for a conditional 7th, fuck it.

    • According to Philip Rivers, Dontrelle Inman possesses the one he covets most in a teammate, which is why he gave a lengthy answer following the game lauding the wide receiver.

“As a quarterback and as a coach, if you want one quality for a player, you want them to have dependability,” Rivers said. “Dontrelle is a good player. He makes plays, runs good routes (and) does those things, (but) the main thing, is he is dependable. You can count on him to run the right route, to play any position (and) to do his job every day. That is what we thought we were getting when we got him from Canada. (Former Offensive Coordinator) Frank (Reich) had talked to the coach he played for in Canada and he said, ‘If I had 41, or however big their roster is, Dontrelles, I would have a heck of a team.’ ”

““Win at the line of scrimmage, separate at the top and make the tough
catches,” [Inman] said. “Those are the three things as a wide receiver
(where) you could be mediocre and you can still play in this league.
Those three things are key to receiving. Keep it simple. Win at the line
of scrimmage, win at the top and make a tough catch.”

according to FoxSports he had groin problem this year and a neck problem 2 years ago. So I am not too concerned about health.

The dust settles on a fine acquisition by young master Pace.

Perhaps the Deonte thing is now more understandable. He’s not as young as McBride/Gentry, and we have nothing but six-footers. Pace likely had been doing his due diligence on Inman for some time (but why not airlock Wheaton?). He’s just making the WR roster younger where possible – I’d still have like him around. Will doesn’t seem to think we’ll have an NFL-Caliber WR roster next year, but I think we’d be fine even standing pat. I’ve seen SB rosters not as strong as that. Mitch will raise everyone’s floor anyway.

I like the idea of not having a true #1. Cam could get it. Dontrelle .. .Cohen! How has OBJ done this year? How much is he helping his team from the sideline? Julio Jones? Putting all your eggs in one basket isn’t smart. Injuries happen. If we have a bunch of guys who are good enough, then we’re covered for the injury bug. Cam is very good. Inman is obviously very good. Kendall is a nice slot. And Kevin was obviously good in college and hasn’t really had a go of it. Bellamy is a WR 4/5. Let Gentry and McBride show if they have anything. Shaheen is developing. Cohen is a lethal target. I’m pumped!

Well done Ryan. You have passed probation. Upgrade the OL in the draft now … and go get that Lombardi.

Aha. The mystery of not throwing screens to Tarik may be solved.

Watching NFL Network. Ray Lewis dropping logic bombs. They’re discussing the defensive jamboree this week in the NFL. Esiason is throwing pencils saying it’s all just a talking point from a producer … look at the scores in the other games .. yada yada. Lewis goes into a thing about how he used to snuff out screens, and that with all the ipads and tablets on the sidelines now, offenses can’t come out and show the same stuff twice. Technology has caught up with offenses. This gives credence to the idea that Fox wasn’t showing anyone anything offensively once we went up two scores.

OCs need to be more inventive they say? No. Why can’t you show one formation, then say run left off that. Then show the identical formation again, but run play-action right? OCs need to be scientific and distribute plays and runs off the SAME formations. That requires logic, not invention. Cover the statistics.

Are you telling me if you have some form of an I-formation, run the ball .. .that the defense knows what’s coming next time you go into that formation? WHY?? Just pass it the next time. Run different kinds of plays using the same formation. Football, as we all know, is not rocket science. If you’re calling the same kind of play from the same formation all the time, you deserve to get stuffed.

But this is the time of defenses. Technology.

(Ray Lewis is a LARGE individual)
