The Story is Glennon Until He’s Gone

| September 18th, 2017

John Fox said it.

I heard him.

He said it.

Sunday’s loss was not on Mike Glennon. Nope, Glennon’s constant throwing behind receivers was not the problem. Glennon blowing off an open Adam Shaheen to throw the ball to a linebacker was certainly not the problem. Glennon fumbling the football because he has the least amount of pocket awareness in the history of professional football was clearly not the problem. Glennon’s awful pick-six, predicted seconds before it happened from a New York City bar stool, was definitively not the problem.

Sure, the Bears made a ton of mistakes yesterday and were more than likely not winning even if they received adequate quarterback play. But they didn’t receive adequate quarterback play. They received the type of quarterback play anybody who has studied the tape of Mike Glennon’s career would expect. This performance was not surprising. It wasn’t abnormal. It is exactly who Glennon has always been.

And when a reporter dared to ask John Fox if Mitch Trubisky will be starting next week against Pittsburgh, Fox answered with a simple “No”.

Next week, and every week Glennon starts, the Bears will lose. Not because they don’t have good enough players to compete but because the organization has chosen to do so. The Bears have selected failure.  People wonder why this space has been obsessed with Glennon since the start of training camp? Yesterday you saw why. He renders the team non-competitive.

And worse, he renders the games unwatchable. And I really, really like watching Bears football. At least I did until September 2017.

Oh really? You liked year 2 of the Trestman regime?

  • Redflagdan

My question isn’t when will Trubisky start, its when will John Fox get fired.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

If they did not fire Trestman or any of his coaches mid season, Fox is probably safe till after the season.

      • Scharfinator

It depends if he shits out any more Tampa style games. We string a few of those together and we might toss his ass after the first 4.

        • Trestman had the back to back blowouts on national TV where the Bears gave up 50+ points. That didn’t get him fired.

Then he had Aaron Kromer bitch to national reporters about Cutler, trying to scapegoat it all on one player and save his own career. That didn’t even get him or Kromer fired, somehow.

I’d like to think Fox will be fired by the bye, but I have zero faith it will happen.

          • Scharfinator

Fuck. Too much logic here Data.

Fare thee well 2017 Bears, we hardly knew ye.

          • Big Mike

Currently, we have two potential head coaches on the staff. Under Trestman, they Coordinators were as bad as the team. I don’t think any have found work as a coordinators.

          • Scharfinator

I always wondered about the Tucker hire…

          • Big Mike

The only guy who would take the job.

          • Scharfinator

            Ooof, you’re probably right.

          • evantonio

Who are you referring to? Did we bring back Taub and nobody told me?

Seriously, though. What happens if they bring him in and we win 4 consecutive super bowls. Man, I’d like that.

          • Trestman went back to OC, bombed out of NFL.

Kromer has gone back to OL coach (which he’s damn good at)

Their shitty DC who I refuse to name is now a DB coach in college.

          • Big Mike

Kromer.. he was “so extra”. Rhymes with sucker.. .:(

          • Irish Sweetness

To those hell-bent on Fox’s head on a platter, we could run the offense online, the fans could do it. Ever have a coordinator on the street when you were a kid? Did it ever stop a game of football not having a coordinator around? I never got people’s fascination with the fuckers, I find it bewildering.

To me, the far more worrying positions to be filled at Halas are:

Right Tackle, Left Guard, both DEs, both ILBs, both safeties … Jesus Christ on a bike that’s years of drafting. That’s another 3 year build. Christ. The Bears could have picked Trubisky on auto-draft. Without a trade for that matter …
I haven’t given up on our receivers yet. I didn’t see the second half. Sleep was more attractive. But Deonte is a baller. Bellamy has his moments. I don’t know anything about Wheaton or Wright, and Gentry could be something next year.

But we have a bunch of TEs. Cohen is a first down monster in the screen game. Receiver isn’t the problem. Everywhere else and under center is the problem.

          • CanadaBear

The Bears have the worst WR’s in the league but it’s not a problem? Really?

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Irish was all up on Meredith’s shit from the beginning last year, while most of us saw him as a UDFA that needed to prove it. All our WRs right now are ‘prove it’ type players to me. There may be something there or not.

          • CanadaBear

Meredith is a #2 at best, White is a non-entity, Wright is #2-3 and the rest are less than that. You need a #1 to take the pressure off everyone else. Ugh.

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

I know, but we also have Glennon throwing the ball, so it would be hard for any WR to step up. Hell Julio Jones would look pedestrian with Glennon.

          • Big Mike

I’m just as frustrated.. but I believe our coordinators are actually very good.

          • SC Dave

I don’t have a problem with Fangio or Loggains.

I have a giant problem with Strength & Conditioning, the trainers, and (probably) the nutritionists. This regime is unable to keep players on the field.

          • Big Mike

Like Kwiatkowski with a pec injury. Two guys, same position same weird injury. Sure it could all be a coincidence, but you start to wonder.. Is it the water, the food, the training regimen can’t be that different than what every other team does. Maybe they don’t go hard enough in camp. So that when they do, shit starts snapping. It’s a mystery.

What’s not a mystery is every week, we can’t stop the opponent’s first drive. Adjustment to “game speed”? I don’t think it’s scheme, or preparation, because they literally change nothing and play better the second series on.

        • Joecashflow

Won’t toss his ass after 4 because the GM is telling him to start Gannon.

          • Scharfinator

            Rich Gannon still plays!? 😛

          • Irish Sweetness

First thing an incoming HC would do is start Mitchell. So Fox will only start him if he thinks his job is in jeopardy THIS year. Which is amazing to me.

    • Irish Sweetness

      To be replaced by …?

  • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

God I hate talking heads talking about the Glennon/Bears. It is obvious they are looking at stat sheets and did not even watch the game.

    • Big Mike

I hate when that happens. Do your job…

  • BearDown100393

This franchise is a dumpster inferno

  • Scharfinator

Holy shit, anyone see the Rodger’s fumble? Outside of one guard, his entire O-line cut blocks and fails, just laying on the ground.

I’m not sad about it, but I’d have lost my shit if I was Rodgers.

    • Irish Sweetness

It’s okay, he gets it pushed back in on a regular basis.

  • Big Mike
    • Scharfinator

1:26 is an int half the time. Other than that, looked like a solid game from JC

      • Big Mike

Time was off. He had three exceptional plays. One was his TD, one was a jump all that he put on the money on the run, I forget the other.

        • leftcoastdave

Thanks. That was great to see for Jay.

        • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

it was a crazy scramble then hitting Devante Parker in stride deep down the middle.

          • Big Mike

Yep. I’m curious what would Cutler’s salary have been? Less than Glennon? Could still have drafted Trubisky secretly
            Mike

          • Big Mike

Very athletic play. Plus no picks. Heard a spot on espn from their left tackle that went something like this. His leadership was amazing. His calls at the line were on point, after the missed kick, Cutler in the huddle was firing us up to build on this win.

  • Malice Halice

    Glennon n fox gotta go.

    • Irish Sweetness

Suppose a guy had a captive bolt gun a la Javier Bardem in No Country for Old Men. You with me? Suppose a guy could enter the country undetected and had the address to Halas Hall.
Could anyone help me with the location of Ted Phillips office .. .I mean this guy with the bolt-thing….

  • Malice Halice

Any notable injuries from our game yesterday besides my pride?

    • BearDown100393

      Howard

  • Scharfinator

    Receiving Rec Yds Avg TDs
    A. Jeffery 7 92 13.1 1

Granted, he plays for a better team now, but we sure could use help at WR.

    • Sactowns#1

Pace has absolutely no idea what he’s doing.

      • Scharfinator

I wish I knew which decision was Pace and which was Fox. I’m fairly certain Fox tossed BMarsh because he didn’t want a distraction, who knows with AJ.

  • BearDown100393

All Fox did was prove to his players that management is all in on the tank. More will pull the chute and go on IR.

    • SC Dave

      Sure looks that way.

  • Joecashflow

One positive from Jeff, the NYC bar stool. Fans need to vote with their seats, until Biscuit gets a start.

    • Johnnywad

They already have. It’s easier to get tickets now than it has been in a generation. By Thanksgiving you’ll be able to find them nailed to telephone poles for free.

      • Malice Halice

Guess I’ll finally be goin to a game then!

      • evantonio

Yup. We couldn’t even give away tickets to opening day.

  • Johnnywad

Tampa is where I gave up on Cutler last year. And now it’s where I’ve given up on Fox. Bad juju down there.

    • Irish Sweetness

8 Million ways to die in Tampa.

  • Irish Sweetness

We’re all on the boat now, Jeff – in fact, it’s incredibly unstable and we’re looking at drowning. You can stop now. In fact, the public response from hereon should be nothing but eye movements. The man whose face is too small for his head must be gone.

Aside: The Fudge were playing Julio Jones (and they saw what Hooper did the week before) … with single-high safety for most of the game? Wouldn’t change it up. That’s insane, but it will work like a treat against Gummo.

Fox could get foxy here. Our first game against GB, we start Glennon and then take him off, or just start Mitchell after playing it like Gummo starts as per. They go with the single-high as planned, and Mitchell has a field day downfield and we beat the Packers. Apples?

    • Joecashflow

Like it. Announce MT at game time. Beat the Fudge. It was deja vu all over again for Fudge today vs Falcons. . Maybe Jordy out until after we play them.

      • Irish Sweetness

It has to happen sometime .. .why not use it to beat the fudge?

      • Irish Sweetness

And if Jordy does play … a little cheap shot here or there on that quad ….

        #CharlesMartinRIP
        #FuckThePackers

  • BearDown100393

I hate hating on what is happening. But I won’t pretend this ship is not sinking.

  • Malice Halice

Trubiskey is a way better QB than Sam Bradford. Vikings fans at my job more baked than I am I guess.

    • Irish Sweetness

Bradford is the highest rated QB in the NFL this season, fact fans. 143?

      • Malice Halice

Fuck those stats. Look at Chad Pennington where is he now?

        • beninnorcal

Bradford is made out of m and m’s candy shell.

      • Malice Halice

So Bradford is better than Fudgers n Brady regarding dem stats? Number don’t lie,but they sure as hell don’t tell da whole story.

    • SC Dave

He has not proven that in any way, shape, or form.

  • leftcoastdave

That loss of Freeman showed up bigley. The front 7 got ground down in the swamp after “the kid” did his rookie thing. (We’ll all forgive him though.)

Were not the first four games fait acompli when viewed last spring?

Will that change as the O evolves and the D comes together?

Looks more and more like that will happen with TK at the helm starting some time next week.

What’s the over and under on that?

    • Irish Sweetness

Imagines the debacle if Hicks wasn’t in there!

      • willbest

Was it not a debacle already?

    • None of us expected to win the first four games, but neither did we imagine we’d get blown out 26-0 in one half by the Bucs.

      THAT will not stand.

  • Irish Sweetness

So why did we get rid of Cutty again … so we could have this guy? Really?
    (ducks)

    • leftcoastdave

      Culture and controversy.

      End the blame game.

      I’m happy for Jay.

    • CanadaBear

Because selling year 9 of the Cutler regime would have been about as easy as selling Bukowski’s books at Joel Osteen’s place.

      • Johnnywad

        Hahaha

    • BerwynBomber

Glennon sucks and it is a valid question. But Cutty is not a bridge and he might have bristled at the Bears drafting Trubisky. He is a competent NFL starter who might have kept Trubisky on the bench all year and may have beaten out Trubisky even next year. Plus, we had seen all we needed to see with Cutty, and management was probably tired of the “Jay Cutler” question. Pace wanted his own guys. There is no reason to believe Loggains = Gase in terms of Cutty’s efficient play, or lack thereof. (And those are just a few reasons.)

But yes, Glennnon looks like a steaming pile. And there is no reason to think he gets better.

Then again, if Trubisky fulfills the promise of his preseason, Glennon really wont’ matter and the only issue will be whether we keep him around next year as the vet back-up.

I’d be inclined to go with Sanchize as I think he knows the game better and can probably still out perform Glennon if called upon.

  • King of DBB

This org is going to give you more Glennon and expect you to like it.

This is the season you are getting. Be like Waffle, make this a Dolphins website

    • BearDown100393

      At least Spicer quit

  • 505Bears

Reminds me of the Hall & Oates…”She’s Gone” Hope it becomes a fact

  • CanadaBear

Just to add a little bit of hope to the blog. The Beloved should have beat the dirty birds. The dirty birds made the Fudgies their bitch.

    • BearDown100393

Refuse moralizing defeats as being positive

      • CanadaBear

Well then wallow in your unpleasantness. It’s gonna be a long season.

        • BearDown100393

Actually the season is quite short. Because it is already over.

          • CanadaBear

You seemed quite upset yesterday. Maybe it’s because I’m so old but I made my peace with this season a few weeks ago. Not that I’m happy about the way things are going but having Weekend @ Bernie’s for a HC, a roster with a few good-sized holes in it, no depth and the usual amount of injuries to positions that can least afford it, I’ve been stuck on 5-11 since the spring. Gotta take whatever positives you can whenever you can with this franchise.

          • BearDown100393

It is one matter to lose. It is another to not bother trying to win. At least losing with Trubisky is giving the kid reps and experience. What is the point with Giraffe? Nothing. This entire season means nothing if that kid does not play. This is just wasting time by Fox. And Pace. The McCaskeys. We are being taken for complete idiots if accepting this crap as legit.

          • CanadaBear

Pretty sure MT will start in a game or two. If not, I think Foxy will get the keys to the street and MT starts after that.

      • Sahr Gborie

amen. 2nd place is 1st place loser

        • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

that’s the Barb we know and love.

          • evantonio

is SG confirmed to be Barb?

          • Johnnywad

No. His English is far too polished

          • evantonio

maybe he took last season off because he was hitting the grammar books? a modern day martin eden!

          • Johnnywad

I’d still want him to say “What a fuck?” though.

    • evantonio

haven’t we lost 55% of our starters since the falcons game?

      • CanadaBear

        Somewhere in there!

      • BearDown100393

More to come. Howard went home with his arm in a sling.

  • Sahr Gborie

Fox will not throw the Giraffe under the bus. He is a players coach. If he is going to bench him it will be on Wed or during the bye week.

    • BearDown100393

Must be quite the supersized tires on that bus.

    • King of DBB

They will use the extra half week to prep MT for the Vikes game.

Right now they are the French army after Waterloo. They are total disarray with massive casualties.

No joke, they are going to struggle to FIELD a team against the Steelers. Bullard played some snaps, but it appears Floyd may be out for multiple weeks with his back issues. Hicks said on the score he is fine, but he is banged up good.

Tom Compton may be out for the season at LG. That puts the Hroniss Bonus back in play against the fucking Steelers, possibly the best bull rushers in football next to the Ravens.

Strawberry Kwik tore his pectoral, same as Freeman.

Kyle Long is never coming back.

McPhee is a joke out there. He’s a statue on one leg. Pointless to give him snaps.

Not sure but Sitton got banged up.

I mean this is no longer an NFL roster. This like DIvision II NFL. This is a bad bad team.

      • BearDown100393

You left it Howard. And Hicks appeared KO’d yesterday.

        • King of DBB

Oh yeah, the team’s workhorse back is out.

          • Bender McLugh

            not yet, just injured

      • Corporal Clott

        Eye agree.

      • Scharfinator

Holy shit on those injuries. Why the hell haven’t they scrubbed the facilities top to bottom? Water/food toxicology, HVAC mold issues, fake trainers, damaging str training techniques, soldier field turf, who knows? NOT THE BEARS BECAUSE THEY WONT LOOK AT THIS SHIT

  • 505Bears

Hypothetically..if they do bench ol numbnuts, at some point, does he become the number 2, or do they go with the Sanchize as number 2?

    • BearDown100393

If held accountable, Giraffe should be returned to the Kalahari asap.

      • 505Bears

There is the “if”….that guy is making way too much money not to be held accountable, but you are right. Apparently he is drawing a pass for some reason. Even if he can’t throw one.

    • Sahr Gborie

it does not matter. MT will never allow them to sniff the field ever again. the only thing they will sniff is the pine of the clipboard

  • King of DBB

I was ridiculed and told I was wrong and crazy by everyone, including Jeff, when I told you guys that Ryan Pace fucked up the draft to get Trubisky as a cynical play to save his own career and make sure he stayed in place.

You guys said I was being a cynical idiot and that moves were being made to play winning ball. I told you the truth: Pace was doing the minimum to field a passable team that was being engineered to make it to .500. Possibly.

That you would never see Trubisky this year except in garbage time of winning games, which was very unlikely to happen. Canadabear said I was a moron.

But I’m not. I’ve been a Chicagoan and a Bears fan for many years, and I know how Halas Hall operates. I know how this family operates. Pace is a careerist, he watched what happened to Glitchy and more importantly, to Fuckhead Emery – and is taking steps on the chessboard to keep himself insulated.

Fox knows he is a sacrificial lamb and is sitting in his office paging through copies of Field & Stream and buying accessories for his Bass Boat. He has no more fucks to give. He is out there towing the Glennon line. You may read an insider account in 5 years that tells you different, that behind the scenes Fox was pissed off about how he was being pissed on. But he’s going to ride it out for the paychecks and blame it on the injuries.

Ernie Accorsi was called in after Emery was canned to meet with George. Together they went to Parcells and others in the “inside clan” and they chose Pace as the up and coming guy to fresh start this club. Pace is a decidedly mixed bag, because this is his first rodeo he has made some bad mistakes. Kevin White. Floyd may not pan out. I think he went after Floyd mainly because the scuttlebutt was the Giants wanted him badly. He doesn’t seem like a guy with a vision.

MT was the kick in the balls that told me the last things I needed to know about the guy. He was not going to rebuild at all, he was going to get a cock tease and put it just out of reach, even if it meant overpaying a journeyman bed shitter like Mike Glennon to do it. He was doing that to make sure he didn’t get his head kicked in – so he could say he needed the extra years to build around the kid.

That’s why you won’t see the kid this year – maybe against the Vikings when the press turns from Fox up to Pace and starts up with the salty talk. Maybe then he will put the kid in a situation where he can look good and string the fanbase into keeping their season tickets and corporate skyboxes.

But he’s not building a team the right way. He’s a short cut guy, a careerist. That’s all he is.

Supposedly, SI and the Score have approached Phil Emery several times to talk about the fiasco that was his reign. He has gone hermit. He’s like Mr. White in the Bond films, sitting up a log cabin waiting for his mercury poison. But I think he could unload some shit on ownership that might move the dial. It would probably cost him the last of his friendships, though, so he won’t.

The fan base and the city need to vote with their feet. Seats need to be empty at home games. LOTS of seats. MOST of the seats. That is the only way the McCaskeys might cut short the Pace thing and start again. Until then, I have been convinced the guy is not savvy enough to rebuild a club. He’s a steward, looking to just keep the despair at bay – like a Florida homeowner with sandbags.

This total wipeout of the roster is a good thing. It will expose the cynicism and put a lot of pressure on Pace. He deserves it for the way he’s chosen to run the org.

    • Sactowns#1

Pace has proven to be a terrible GM. Everyone hated Jerry, but Jerry got us to the dance and rarely overcommitted when signing players. This guy, he cant even field a competent team and worst of all, he’s locking guys up long term, meaning we will suffer the after effects for some time.

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Besides Hicks, who has he locked up long term? after next year we can cut just about everyone without having major dead money on the cap.

        • Sactowns#1

An injured Kyle Long. 3 years to Glennon. Eating money on Eddie Royal. Shall I go on?

          • Sahr Gborie

Its a shame how quickly people turn when the going gets tough

K.Long was not his pick and he is a stud. He is just injured.

Giraffe was an expensive smokescreen to get MT. If Pace is the evaluator we hope him to be there is no way he looks at Giraffe and honestly thinks he can lead a team when he is also looking at MT and saying he is the future. Those 2 thoughts are like oil and water. That’s like saying Brady would be a great QB without Billechick.

Royal was to make Cutty feel comfortable and get the best out of him. Hindsight says that was a massive failure.

Pace has his share of blame to shoulder but he has improved the talent on the team. Most of our problems come from bad coaching: John Fox has to go.

          • BearDown100393

Time for a smokescreen Head Coach?

          • Sactowns#1

“he has improved the talent on the team” WHAT?!?!?! I mean WTF?!?!?! You cant be serious with that statement. Just anbove you say the best linemen we have wasn’t his pick and then you turn around and say he improved the talent on the team. Should we go position by position?
            QB- worse
            WR- much worse
            RB- worse or same
Line- maybe slightly better.. except everyone is injury prone so worse
            DL- ?
            LB- much worse
            CB- worse
            S- worse

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

if you don’t think that every layer of the Defense and RBs are not better than when Pace took over you are blind. I am not saying Pace hasn’t made mistakes but you are going over board.

          • There is 1 player from the entire defensive depth chart that Pace inherited who’s currently starting for an NFL team, and that’s Kyle Fuller.

Most of the rest of those guys are out of the NFL (or were old and on their way out).

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

What about W.Young. is he not a starter for us? he came in the year before Pace.

He is also forgetting super bowl winning Shea McClellan starting Sam for the Pats. And Houston who is still a Bear, and Conte who has been starting safety down in Tampa for the last 2 years.

But for the most part everybody is out of the league or on vet min deals at the bottom of other teams rosters.

Shea McClellan is on IR so currently not starting. Conte was not around when Pace took over his contract was up and not resigned. Houston was released a couple weeks ago.

          • Good point, though Sam Acho has actually outsnapped Young in both game so far this season.

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Glennon – basically 1 year deal.
Eddie Royal – off the books already.
kyle long – was signed long term before a major injury

            so please do go on.

          • Sactowns#1

Eddie Royal, Bears ate millions when they waived him this year. Glennon- Bears will eat millions again. Long- was coming off of an injury and has a history of injury.

          • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

Royal – did not have any guaranteed money coming into this year. Waived him – don’t owe any money did not eat any money this year.

Glennon – again basically a one year deal there is no lasting effect of his signing. accept he sucks donkey dick.

Long – coming off Rookie Contract and PB year. signed extension before start of 2016 season. Injured in 2016 season. Before that he only missed 1 game. Every GM in the league would have given him an extension.

            so please do go on.

a lot of people seem to be letting their emotions get the best of them today.

    • Corporal Clott

Ahem… I never told you I thought you were wrong but I did ask you to clarify some of your comments. Out of everyone on this board, you seem to always be more in tune than any of us when it comes to this organization. Thats just my humble opinion.

    • burntorangenavyblue

I have had the same sentiments as what you posted. The McCaskeys like their “Yes” men. Pace jumping up 1 spot for an unknown commodity shows what he is about, saving his own ass.

We all knew that 2017 had no real QB prospects but the Bears shit the bed for what? Appease the idiotic masses that is Chicago media that love hating on QBs? Look at us now…the moves were suppose to stabilize the ship, not surround with oil and burn it with no escapable routes out.

What was the point of drafting Mitch if the Bears could never develop a QB or take care of them? Now the Class of 18 will have much much better prospects that can be starters out of the gate and Pace will purposely not draft them to prove he was “right” with Mitch.

It’s a dumpster fire. Loss of revenue won’t change this team. It will have to be the death of old ownership and hopefully the sale of this team.

      • King of DBB

I said when Lovie and Angelo got shown the door that the only day it changes – honestly changes – is when Ginny croaks and the kids sell their shares. Which they will. The whole goddamn family secretly hates football.

Once it gets into new hands it will honestly get fixed. Ricketts family fixed.

        Not until.

        • burntorangenavyblue

That is a dreamy dream, ain’t it?

          • King of DBB

Ginny set a time bomb in place. Once she dies, no set of kids owns enough shares to make it worth their while to stay in the game. So they will all sell. It will be rats on a sinking ship. And the ex-Aon guy and others are waiting – just waiting – to take the club from the family.

The family postures. George postures and says there will never be a day when the family doesn’t own the team. Fuck George. He was considered too stupid by Ginny when he was younger to do ANYTHING. So they gave the club in the Ditka days to Michael. But Michael was a cardigan wearing poof. He embarassed Ginny with the way he handled things, so she went and got Teddy Ballgame and it’s been this shit show ever since.

But mark my words, when she goes – the dominos fall.

          • burntorangenavyblue

I can almost feel it in my bones that the city of Chicago and that inept POS mayor will have their hands in dragging that franchise further into bloodiness if someone tries to buy the team. It may even scare off a bunch of suitable legit buyers.

          • King of DBB

Teddy Ballgame lubed Daley up good and fucked his ass hard. The contract for the field goes until like 2040. That contract negotiation set Teddy up for life.

Rahm can’t do shit. He can try and add fees or up the costs of the police but those are small things.

Hell, the lopsides contract for Soldier Field pumps the valuation of the Bears up and makes it a more attractive property. The only thing a new owner would dislike is that it only seats 65k and that is jam packed.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

I could respond, but not going to. That argument just ain’t worth my time.

    • CanadaBear

When you start sticking up for Emery …

    • The one gigantic flaw in the argument, which you did mention, was that Pace never got to choose his HC.

Has a GM EVER been fired before hiring his own HC?

The McCaskeys LOVE Pace. Pace KNOWS they love him.

Pace was told from the start that he gets to hire his own HC.

If the Bears don’t win one single game this year and had drafted Adams instead of Trub, Pace STILL gets 2018 to hire his HC/QB while still tearing out the ticks in the scouting dept left over from Emery/Angelo.

That’s just the way the NFL works.

Bears should sign Kaep ASAP. They need a bridge until the can find the franchise QB and Giraffe aint it.

    • BearDown100393

So why not just play the 2nd pick of the draft and be done with it?

      • Sactowns#1

Because he aint the franchise QB either. But I’m with ya, let the guy play and see what he is, or isn’t.

        • Sactowns#1

Problem is, when he stinks it up, where do you go form there. They need a viable option and I see no downside to bringing in Kaep.

          • BearDown100393

If Trubisky is not the franchise QB and after the Giraffe fiasco, there is NO WAY I want Pace around to make another QB decision.

          • Sactowns#1

          • SC Dave

Except that Kaep is no good.

    • beninnorcal

No, thanks. Kaep sucks. Go back and watch his game against the Bears from last year when he made Matt Barkley look like Tom Brady.

      • Sactowns#1

Didn’t know Kaep was playing defense. Also, I think Alex Smith speaking at length on the dysfunction of that franchise and front office should give pause and consideration to what he would be on a different team.

        • willbest

Given what has happened with the Bears organization from about 2009 to present, your theory that Kaep would thrive better in Chicago is suspect.

          • beninnorcal

            Exactly.

        • beninnorcal

Never said he was playing defense. He was doing the most awful impersonation of an NFL qb that I’ve ever seen. I actually felt bad for him, no joke. He was terrible, go back and watch, he actually got benched at halftime.

    • beninnorcal

I used to think Kaep was pretty good a couple years back and I couldn’t care less about him protesting. But last year changed everything for me, he is not a good qb at all.

      • Sahr Gborie

he was on a bad team. put him on a good team, hell a “decent team” and he is back to being the kap you used to know

    • Nah. I am for Kaep being on a team, but at this point he’s not better than Sanchize.

Kaep crash coursing into our playbook would greatly handicap our entire O, as if they needed to be crippled any more.

If Kaep had come in from the start, it might be a diff story, but that ship has sailed.

  • Corporal Clott

Jeff is taking on city hall and we all now how that ends.

Listening to the game, what I was able to glean from the announcers coments was mostly “dropped passes”. Sure, I also heard the “thrown low” or “thrown behind” comments but mostly, “dropped passes”. Sometimes the obvious is the answer, no?. We just plain suck!

    • BearDown100393

The problem is guys like Jeff want to believe they matter to Halas Hall. That they are somehow intricately linked in a reciprocal give and take relationship. The reality destroys that myth. The McCaskeys every once in awhile (Haugh column last week) want to project they care. But they don’t. Not about Jeff. Any of us. Those tailgaters outside Soldier Field vouching for McCaskey with Haugh on leash. They didn’t build this franchise. They inherited it. And did nothing all that time to even bother learning how to run it properly. When success is found it is more cosmic accident than any doing by ownership. The Bears take their fan base for granted. They don’t appreciate it. They sh*it on all of us. And with every future snap by Giraffe instead of Trubisky, defended by Fox and silence is consent Pace, this proves to be management preservation over either product quality or accountability. This is one sick beast.

      • willbest

Jeff is just acting like every other journalist in the last 30 odd years.

As for the McCaskeys you are partially right. You are wrong about them not caring, but you are correct that they don’t understand what to do about it. When you build up your own business, you understand the risk/reward structures better and you can take more calculated risks. When you are just thrown into something you either piss it all away on bad bets or you go ultra conservative and bleed out over a long period of time.

You can see that in the hiring over the last 5 years. Emery was just some guy grinding out being a next man up sort of hire. They probably liked that he had experience with the Bears and went up to the next level at other organizations. A very safe pick by George. Emery himself decided to bet the farm thinking he was smarter than everybody else when he passed on Coach of the Year who was begging to ink a deal and opted for some guy that couldn’t hold a job longer than 2 years, probably because that guy promised to be a yes man.

When that all went to shit, what did George do? He got the safest of the safe coaches available. A guy you hire when you want to lose with respectability. But then he reversed it for GM and went for wunderkind. This was an absolutely horrible idea because its clear Pace has a vision for the team that Fox does not share, but they saddled Pace with Fox.

Pace is probably regretting turning down the Miami job or whoever it was that was looking to hire him as GM.

        • As long as Pace gets to hire HIS HC, the rest don’t matter.

No fan was deluded enough to believe Fox could get us to a SB.

Most of us, at least on here, saw him as a “bridge” HC.

To get the Bears back to respectability from the Tresman debacle.

Well, Fox is too incompetent to even do THAT.

What the “think tank” did not factor into the calculation is that modern Fox, not Panther’s Fox, is DONE.

His heart is literally puttering out, and he no longer has the fire, l’elan vital, required to be a quality HC in the NFL.

It’s like hiring you’re dad to tar your roof 20 yrs past his prime.

It’s a sad tragic affair all around.

    • A lot of the dropped passes came when the game was already out of reach, which makes it WORSE cuz they weren’t pressure catches.

  • King of DBB

It’s not just decision to keep playing Glennon that bothers me. It’s Fox’s tone. He acts like suggestion of playing Trubisky is crazy talk. -Jeff

    Yep.

This was all laid down – black and white – last spring. Under no circumstances is the kid to play.

Let’s have an intellectual exercise, shall we? Let’s pretend where Jeff somehow mind controls Pace and the Bears org. Jeff uses his whisperer Jedi power to make them start MT next week.

    A. Fox would put in a lot of designed roll outs and bootlegs to try and keep the kid alive. But with no Long and no Sitton he’s going to look like Russell Wilson out there. Did you see the Seahawks play? Wilson looks like a character in one of those Hong Kong action movies where the guy is framed for a crime and has to jump through alleys and climb walls just to prevent being macheted to death.

That would be MT’s life next week.

    B. The Bears do not have a single competent wideout. Bellamy has AWFUL hands and catches with his body. Wright seems to have gained the dropsies. Tanner Gentry dropped 2 passes. Howard is hurt, so there is no workhorse back to offload to. Cunningham is also hurt.

    C. Having asserted A & B as irrefutably true, C would be that MT would look like shit when he wasn’t getting killed. It would be feeding him to the crowd like something in Gladiator. This would throw the Bears into a tail spin, and Pace would LOSE HIS NARRATIVE that there was something good worth holding on for.

So, in a sense, it IS CRAZY. It would be career suicide for Pace to put MT in.

  • Big Mike

I never thought I’d say this, but why didn’t the Bears just keep Cutler? They could have still drafted Trubisky, secretly. His salary for 2017 would have been at most $15m (less than guaranteed money for Glennon), with zero guaranteed dollars. He’s clearly better than Glennon. Let Trubisky beat him out.

    • beninnorcal

I would’ve been fine with that.

    • Malice Halice

R we da only team whose QB can put up 300yrds n still lose let alone score 21pts?

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

yes- just like last year with Hoyer.

        • Hoyer games were never blow outs, hence, not garbage time stats.

In fact, Hoyer lead longer drives in 4 weeks than Cutler in 6 yrs with the Bears, while having higher comp%, less TOs, less sacks, and just about as many yds and TDs.

    • burntorangenavyblue

Considering what we went through the entire 90s and early 2000s with Bears having nothing for QBs and the NFL was adjusting to make its importance ever moreso IMPORTANT…..heaven forbid we had to deal with Cutler anything. With the way this league has been protecting and promoting the offensive side of the ball, I’d rather deal with anything Cutler. Overall, people need to open their eyes and be understanding that the troubles Cutler gave at times is not a unique thing. But what he did at least offer was way more than what other NFL teams had. In today’s NFL, there’s really no excuse to be acting like how many did towards Cutler.

And now that Pace has went outnof his way with the Trubisky pick, there’s again, no excuse for handling the team the way they are doing it now. Need a new word for dumpsterfire.

    • Sactowns#1

yup. People who are still on the Pace train are out of their minds.

      • willbest

You think Pace is the one keeping Trubisky on the bench? Why can’t it be Fox out of spite for being sent Trubisky and not Thomas? I mean Fox knows he is done in the NFL after this stint, and his contract is guaranteed. Outside of fire him there isn’t a whole lot they can do to him, and then you are asking George to pay a guy $10 million to go fishing, along with giving Loggains or Fagio extra scratch to take the HC job.

        • Hope that’s not the case.
When there’s a schism between GM and HC in regards to QB, that’s BAD mojo.

Fisher wanted Cutler over Vince Young, and once Vince Young was inserted (and winning, no less) Fisher did everything to prove he was right and sabatoged Young’s career.

Same with Rat Shanny in DC. He didn’t want RG3, and once the GM forced to play him, he did everything to get him killed, and he did.

Now both are washed up has beens who had a world of talent, but destroyed pretty much by petty in-fighting and vindictive HCs.

I think GP posted that piece by Alex Smith. Same thing almost happened to him.

It was obvious by mid season that Fisher was gone last year. EVERYONE, and I mean EVERYONE, the media (Erick Dickerson kept calling Fisher out so much that he was even BANNED from being on the Ram’s sideline), the fans, the players, wanted Goff in (and this in spite of him SUCKING in PS) but Fisher kept him on the bench as a ploy to save his job. What his intent was? To shelf him the entire year so when the Rams sucked in 16, he could say, “ah, but wait till you get a load of Goff and Fisher in 17!”

That shit DID NOT fly. The GM eventually put pressure and Goff started, and surprise surprise, Goff looked horrible (Fisher at this point knew he was out the door and prolly just wanted to say “see. I told you to wait”)

1 Fisher-less season later, Goff looks reborn.

Fisher and Fox are good friends. I’m sure all this did not get lost on Fox.

I just wonder what he takes away from it.

This is why Fox needs to be fired NOW.

Because if he has even the slightest Fisher-like vindictiveness when it comes to QBs, and if the GM has to force him to start Trub, he’s going to do everything possible to sabotage Trub when he is in, so fuck that.

          Dump Fox. Start Trub.

          • A7Xthebest

Get the actual fuck out of here with that narrative on RG3 and VY. Those guys are both losers who fundamentally fail at accepting any personal responsibility for their failures and blame anyone and everyone around them except for themselves.

          • Those guys needed COACHING and were thrown into a fucked up situation as 21-22 yr old rooks where billion dollar owners and GMs were at war with their arrogant coaches.

What do you expect to happen? Not saying they would’ve become Vadgers, but they were practically set up to fail.

Go read the Alex Smith piece GP posted a few threads back. It’s a shit situation for ANY QB to walk into.

It almost happened to Favre too.

When he was with the Falcons Glavin hated him and treated him like shit.

He was traded to a team that believed in him, and provided the right structure for him to grow in.

If Favre stayed on the Falcons, he goes the way of RG3, Young, and almost Alex Smith. Book it.

          • A7Xthebest

Somewhat of a fair point, but I think the swarm around RG3 was just a hype train making excuses for him, he was always ready to blame someone else. Openly, even.

This also makes for a compelling reason as to why front offices need to be on the same damn page, how can you draft a guy your head coach neither believes in nor wants to play?

    • willbest

If Cutler makes the week 1 roster his salary is guaranteed. They would have gotten 2.5 million in cap relief if he was injured in camp for the season. So the savings on keeping Cutler was 3-5.5 million. Which I suppose could have been used to overpay Jeffery.

A couple problems with Cutler though
      1) He was well worn out in Chicago. Even if he wasn’t spent fresh start was probably necessary
      2) Keeping a 34 year old injury prone QB screams that the Bears are going to be looking at QB’s in the draft.

In fact, I suspect the reason Glennon ended up with more than he should have besides Pace being retarded, is that they wanted to make sure everybody believed Glenon was their QB1.

Seems like a real expensive head fake, but Pace did say something and I believe him. He was getting calls for teams looking to trade up to #3. He wanted to make sure whoever was calling San Fran or Cleveland was also calling him. That probably doesn’t happen if people know who is looking at the QBs. And its not exactly rocket science. You can look at the teams who are calling you and taking an educated guess who they are targeting.

Of course none of this explains the stubborn insistence of running with Glennon after that shit show, unless Trubisky is woefully unprepared, which judging from the preseason can’t possibly be true.

      • Big Mike

Keeping cutler would have been a fine head fake. Culter>Glennon. That’s all I’m saying and he’s cheaper.

        • Hoyer>Glennon

Aside from the shelf life issue, the injuries were just piling up.

      • Big Mike

Watch this year. Does it unfold good Cutler, bad Cutler, Good cutler, good cutler, injured cutler? Or does he string it together and take Miami to the playoffs? If he has a career year, we’’ll know we are cursed.

The injuries stacking up within the same position group are astonishing. G, ILB, WR down to 4th and 5th options. WTF…

        • Johnnywad

I got nothin. I’m already feeling the season is lost to injury and it’s 9/18.
I’ve been pretty optimistic about where Pace has this group headed but it crashed down pretty hard yesterday.

          • Big Mike

It sucks. I’m still all in on Pace

            Get Outlook for iOS

    • Because as bad as Glennon was against the Bucs last week, Cutler was WORSE against the Bucs last season.

It eerily followed the same script. Decent game followed by a complete meltdown.

No doubt Cutler has more upside. On better days, he’s better. On worse days, he’s as bad.

      Plus, it was just time.

The REAL question is why didn’t we keep Hoyer for $5M?

He’s the def of a “bridge” and with the Bears (which is all I take into consideration), he was more than sufficient. He never had that Buc’s meltdown game.

And he would’ve saved us like $10M cap more than either Cargo or Glennon, which could’ve been used on FAs like Donatari Poe, Pyror, Alshon, or name a secondary guy (maybe enough to snag that RT from the Ravens).

      Woulda shoulda coulda….POX era.

      • Big Mike

Let’s see what Cutler does this year. He looked very good yesterday. Very good. Glennon has yet to look like he can come close to that kind of good. Hoyer, meh. I’m so tired of watching the Bears get rag dolled around. Injured, lethargic, out coached.

        • It wouldn’t surprise me if Cutler has a Gase-type yr…under GASE.

That’s why I always measure a QB by the team he’s on, not by previous tenure.

Too many cases where QBs dramatically change under diff systems and OCs.

We have two just in the NFCN.

Bradford was mediocre at best with the Rams. Gets with the Vikes, looks better.
Lesbo looked mediocre at best with previous OCs. Under Jim Bob, looks better.

Same can be true for Cutler with Gase.

The problem is, the Bears no longer had Gase, and he looked just like he did under Trestman.

Hoyer may bomb in SF, but again, diff OC, scheme, players, etc. All I know is, when with the Bears and Birdcage, he competed.

As for the injured, lethargic, out coached…don’t have to tell me twice.

Right when we signed Fox I called him AlbinoLovie, which many at the time took as an insult, but 3 yrs later, kinda would be a compliment cuz he hasn’t even won as many as Trestman, yet alone Lovie.

      That’s not positive at all.

Waffle’s Guide To Rebuilding A Franchise in 1 year:
    1. 3 year Moratorium on drafting or signing any more whites to the roster through draft or free agency. Glennon makes me so angry at whites that I want to divorce my wife and leave my blonde hair blue eyed kids. While banishing whites pick 3 positions in FA and fill them with young promising bad hombres.
    2. Finish up the season with the 1st pick in the 2018 draft.
    3. Package up our 2-7 picks for the 2nd pick in the 2018 draft.
    4. Select Sam Darnold and Josh Rosen with picks 1 and 2 in the 2018 draft.
    5. Start fielding phone calls like a Jerry Lewis telethon

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

when you say no whites. is that just skin color, or anyone with the last name White, or both?

      • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

People who play football in a fashion that makes white people hide their heads in shame.

John Timu is not a huge drop off from Kwiatkoski.

Kwiatkoski is a marianas trench drop off from Freeman.

      • CanadaBear

Timu is better against the run but he is a revelation (not in a good way) in the pass game.

        • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

this is true. John has consistency issues in coverage….but so does Trevathan currently and he’s supposed to be elite. I think we’re in trouble either way.

          • CanadaBear

I really like Timu in the run game. I love the way he plays downhill. The problem is the forward pass is now legal in the NFL. FUCK!

          • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

            haha, it is problematic.

        • I think I’d much rather die by a thousand paper cuts, TEs crosses and WR drags, then those long bombs with busted coverages.

That’s my ‘glass half full’ on Timu.

Maybe it tempts OCs to attack Bears in diff way

      • Big Mike

Really? Nah. Timu wasn’t even next up.

        Mike

        • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

I’ve never been impressed with Nick, never seen him attack the LOS unless it was a called blitz, doesn’t play downhill.

  • CanadaBear

Anybody watch Zeke toss in the towel after the INT? I swear that guy is 22 going on 13. I just hope he never grows up while he’s still a Cowgal.

    • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

Zeke does not impress me. I look at HOF’ers and true pros and I see the opposite with Zeke mentally.

      • CanadaBear

        Physically he’s a beast. Mentally he’s a midget.

    • I’m glad he did. Was going against him in FF!

  • CanadaBear

Just read Foxy is 0-8 in September with the Beloved. The Bears averaged 15.6 points less than their opponents in those 8 games. Not only were they skunked in September under Foxy, most of them were blowouts.

    • Bender McLugh

that shouldn’t surprise me but it honestly does.

      • CanadaBear

The 0-8 didn’t shock me but the average margin of defeat was pretty shocking.

I hear you guys, it’s going to be a tough road, I mean take this coming week for instance, the Jets may be undermanned but it’s at home and they’re playing with nothing to lose. I hope we don’t take this game lightly.

    • CanadaBear

If they take the Steelers lightly it’s going to be a bad, bad thing. Lots of injuries besides a crushing defeat.

      • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

I can’t believe the McCaskey’s allowed such a brutal schedule to start the season. Them bastards just don’t care. They are also probably behind all the corruption in Chicago, and the shooting of black people by police officers.

        • willbest

Well realistically there wasn’t a whole lot to do. We were going to play the NFCS and AFCN this year. Nothing to do about that. And there is nothing to be done about the division being tougher than expected. I suppose they could have not back loaded the SoS games.

      • Johnnywad

How could they take any team lightly at this point? Doubt that’s gonna happen.

      • SC Dave

He’s talking about the Dolphins. But I assume you know that and chose to redirect to The Only Team That Matters.

Waffle’s Guide To Gambling (Winning) At NFL Betting Volume 3:
I’ve analyzed the week 3 games and have pinpointed several that are virtually guaranteed to keep you in coke and hookers for at least another week:
    Raiders over Skins
    Pats over Texans
    Falcons over Lions
    Steelers over Bears
    Broncos over Bills
    Dolphins over Jets
Raiders are flying high and Washington just doesn’t seem like they win by way of any strategy. Injuries are piling up for the Skins including Josh Norman and their RB Kelly.
Pats and Brady are settling into a groove and I feel like Watson is going to turn the ball over a few times because that’s what he does. He won’t do enough to counteract the potent Pats O. Gronk hurt his pringles can in the last game though but didn’t seem too concerned. However, he did say the same thing after he broke his arm in half the other time.
Falcons on fake ass cheaters carpet and in a dome are unstoppable because when Mohammed Sanu fucking looks like Julio Jones and Julio Jones looks like how he would look in a Jerry Bruckheimer movie about football you know shit is about to go down. that’s not even counting on those 2 sick ass race car running backs they have. Lions won’t be able to keep up.
Steelers over Bears may be the game where people have simply had enough of the team. No WR’s, injured RB’s, Glennon and a D that just cannot get off of the field on 3rd downs. I may find a prop bet about Antonio Brown catches and yards and bet my wife’s car on it.
Broncos D is redonk and their O is starting to click. I’ll do some research on the Bills and will report back but this game smacks of the riskiest of the bunch because Bills are weird like that.
Dolphins over Jets. Never bet against the kid. Also, the Jets are going to have a rough year and are possibly going to lose every game in order to get the 1st or 2nd pick. Cutty vs McCown. Epic.

    • Scharfinator

If one were to bet, where would one do it? Question for science.

      • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

I heard there is a site called bovada.lv and they take bitcoin too…I’ve heard.

    • Sactowns#1

I’m 7 for 8 in the first two weeks, to my shock. I don’t like the Falcons vs Lions game, especially not knowing if the muppet/ mouth breather continues he’s ascension. Dolphins v Jets scares me too. Those inter division rivalries can be tough. See SF yesterday. All of your other picks look mighty solid to me though.

      • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

Detroit scares me when they’re at home but the Falcons are healthy on O and on turf in a dome they are unreal. Dolphins Jets does scare me a bit because of the Jets D line but the rest of the D fucking blows.
I may just let it ride on the Pats and Steelers 2 game parlay for all of the marbles.

        • Sactowns#1

Throw the Raiders in for a 3 game and 8x odds. They’re going to the big dance this year.

          • Suns Out, Buns out, Ciggy In

3 game parlay? Then you’re just gamblin’

            I’m talkin bout SCIENCE.

            haha, i’ll do it!

          • Sactowns#1

            lol. Perfect!

  • Sahr Gborie

Giraffe Neck starting the next 2 games is fine by me ONLY if its in preparation for MT to start after the bye week. No point in giving coaches free tape. Best positive spin I could come up with.

    • “Modestly” Huge Bears Penis

the Bye week is week 9 not week 5.

      • Sahr Gborie

        im done with the season

  • In all seriousness, why don’t we try Amos at ILB?

Dude can bring the wood. No doubt about it. He’s what, 6’0 220? So he’s a lil undersized, but so what?

Collinsworth last night was talking about the Puke going “nitro package” which is essentially a SS at LB.

The Cards have also done this with Buchannon.

Amos lacks coverage and ball skills for a SS, but for an ILB, you don’t need those as much.

We have a strong Dline (for now) to keep the LBs relatively clean. Let him roam around back there.

I convert SS to ILBs in madden all the time, and they become badasses!

    Do it, Fangio, dooo itt.

Amos knows the playbook, has instincts, strength, and delivers the wood.

    • SC Dave

      They need to so something.

      • They do, but they won’t.
Every season we hear about Christian Jones becoming better, and every time he goes in, he looks like the same Christian Jones. We know what we have in Anderson and Timu.

So fuck it, why not Amos at ILB?

He can’t be worse than Shea on skates.

And run defense is not our weakness.

Him next to Tre would make our D faster and more aggressive overall.

        • SC Dave

          The idea has merit.

    • willbest

I like it, have him put 10 pounds on and stick him out there. Lach moved up. Not expecting that level of jump but it can work.

      • Now that our Dline is still healthy.
If the opponent wants to run it cuz Amos is ILB, go for it.
Good luck trying to run by Goldman, Hicks and Bullard.

Plus, if I am correct, there’s always a run stuffing ILB and a more coverage ILB in a 3-4.

Just make Trevathan the run stuffer, and Amos the coverage ILB

Amos against Julio Jones maybe not a great matchup, but against TEs and HBs with help over the top, should be good.
