  • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

    serious question here, need assistance:

One of my friends who i was sitting with at a parish Trivia Night was telling me his Super Bowl betting strategy.

He is putting 5,000 on Buffalo Wild Wings selling more than 12,000,000 chicken wings
He is putting 5,000 on Buffalo Wild Wings selling less than 12,000,000 chicken wings

His “more” bet pays out 1667.00 on that 5,000
His “less” bet pays out 10,000 on that 5,000

Worst case it looks like he’ll make 1667.00 on a 10,000 bet no matter what happens. Why would the bookie allow this? Am i missing something?

    • Trac

The SB only happens once a year? Could be a “lost leader” gamble that snags a few rich Gamblers until the next bankruptcy proceeding. You got me?

    • Johnnywad

Doesn’t he break even if the “less” bet cashes? And lose $3333 if “more” cashes?

      • Trac

        I think you’re spot on.

    • Doc Nitty

He spent 10,500 counting the vig on the one he’s guaranteed to lose. He’ll get back 10,000 if the less bet hits. He’ll get back $6,667 if the over hits. Either way he loses.

      • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

his wife shot him a disgusted look as if she knew exactly what you just said. I think it was all talk and once he realizes today that he can’t bet both sides and profit either way he’ll just bet the over and win a little.

      • Doc Nitty

Tell your friend I’ll be happy to be his bookie in the future.

        • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

doc, you should open up a gambling site or at least construct your own mathematical model for gambling on March Madness like that one Ivy League guy does.
This fucking guy is a Finance/Math dude that doesn’t work, he grows his Bankroll every March by getting a 20% or something return on his initial 300,000 he started with. I think after a couple of years he is almost at 1,000,000.00
I’ll find the article. Think about it.

      • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

The Score just had an entire segment on the Chicken Wings bet and the psychology behind it. They used rising wing sales over a 3yr period, the opening of 80 new stores in the US in the past year and the PR issue of admitting your sales are declining.

I called in and said they could easily attribute a lower number to the increase in sales on the other delicious items on their menu…..and the call screener laughed and just said “fuck” as we both decided that this was riskier than it appears.

        • Doc Nitty

          Haha

        • Johnnywad

The buried headline here is that you were able to call the Score again. Did they unblock your number?

          • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

it seems so. Maybe it was a new call screener. He seemed less entitled.

            Her: Um, what?

            Me: Repeat my order

            Her: So you want wings?

Me: Noooooo… repeat my order, this time adding the no wings thing.

Her: Ok, so you want 3 different style of wings?

Why no T.O. in the hall of fame?

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/02/07/why-no-t-o-in-hall-of-fame/

    A. Because he’s a douche bag?
    B. Because he did it his way?
    C. Because of cultural bias?
    D. Because he didn’t retire when he shoulda?
    E. All of the above.

    • willbest

Because if you put in TO and then you put in Moss, then you should just nix all the other lesser WRs right then and there.

      • Trac

Because life is a popularity contest amongst the beautiful people. Always has been until Mau returns.

        • MB30SD

yep, it’s nice to be on this side…. all you ugly people can fend for yourselves, a la elysium. muwahhhh!

    • Doc Nitty

He dominated the position in a way that almost nobody else has. He shoulda been a slam dunk.

And Tony Dungy gets in. What a joke.

      • Owens also played a SB on one leg (eh, Jay?) and crushed it.
        It was unbelievable.

        Owens def should’ve been in.

        Dungy. what a joke.

    • BerwynBomber

I’m guessing E. Plus, they didn’t want to put him on Favre’s level. And yes, all of those reasons suck.

  • willbest

What is the over/under on the people that got to their mid 20s with no marketable job skills being mentioned ranting about something evil?

  • BerwynBomber

The NFL HOF should move to an MLB “no set # need go in every year” model. That way they can avoid the embarrassment of yesterday’s voting in the future.

My guess is they didn’t want to afford TO and Warner the same 1st ballot love they did Favre. Fair enough. You can make the case that Favre was better and more important and that neither TO or Warner are worthy of 1st ballot enshrinement. The problem is when you began back-filling people over TO and Warner to come up with that set # of enshrinees and those players or coaches are inferior to TO or Warner. And the reason this happens, I presume, is because of their set # of enshrinees every year. Hence, if Favre was the only guy worthy this year, then enshrine Favre only. Then knock off TO and Warner next year.

    • Doc Nitty

This wasn’t Warners first year of eligibility. Perhaps they didn’t want three QB enshrinees counting Snake.

    • willbest

Never understood the point of annual induction to a Hall of Fame. I also don’t agree with the only 5 years after retirement rule. I don’t think that gives you proper context to evaluate a player in.

They really should have broken football down into eras of about 15 years and selected the 20-25 best players from each side of the ball throw in another 5-10 for coaches, ST, GMs, owners.
Have a massive induction ceremony about 10 years after the era ends, so you can assess the bubble cases, and allow the evolution of the game a chance to vet the past a bit. Open up a new wing in Canton. Make a whole big deal of it.

    • BearDown100393

A player is either a HOFer or isn’t. If that means no inductions or a dozen in any given year, so be it.

  • Doc Nitty

OK MB. I finally caught the last fifteen minutes of the 30 for 30. Now I see why you got something in your eye. Good shit.

  • the football show last night was pretty good. A few kinda odd awards, like “Fantasy player of the year”. It went to Antonio Brown who looked like a modern day kid-in-play.

Seemed like a consolation prize for Offensive Player of the Year.

But what is Brown supposed to say,”Thanks, I like to thank my mom and coaches for making me the best fantasy player I could be”? A bit ridiculous.

Also, I like play of the year, but what is Aaron Rodgers and the other Rogers supposed to say, “We worked our whole life for that one play, now we can retire.”?

Don’t have to give awards for EVERYTHING.

That being said, Conan was hilarious, specifically for ripping on Joey Buck and Collinsworth.

‘And the role of Joe Buck will be played by any Norwegian lesbian’

    • Doc Nitty

Yeah the monologue at the beginning was pretty funny.

      • I also LOVED Eric Berry’s (Man crush!) speech.

And Gurley really got teared up. Guess coming back from that brutal acl and Sanders giving it to him meant a lot.

    • willbest

Best fantasy player is what exactly? Is that best fanduel points over costs?
I think Best Play should be a thing. I don’t think you should ask the players involved for comment though. As you pointed out they don’t have a lot to say other than “Yeah, it felt awesome. It is in a loop on my LED picture frame on my coffee table.”

      • Yeah, I like it, but no need to have them travel all the way to wherever just to pick up that award, like you said..

They should probably do a very brief year in review, the highs, the lows. That’d be pretty cool.

Just sat down in time to catch Seal singing some pregame garbage.

It was absolutely laughable. You will find better karaoke Friday nights at the local Moose Lodge. This, with Coldplay to look forward to at halftime.

I doubt the people in charge of the music survive the weekend.

    • BearDown100393

The music acts are almost always contrived garbage.

      • Johnnywad

Remember the Prince half time show? I laughed when he was announced for the gig, but I gotta admit, he may have been the best halftime act in recent memory. He killed it.

This is the best possible outcome of a terrorist attack.

    • Trac

Another feel good story. Good showing JW old chap.

    • MB30SD

So I’ve been through airport security in Africa. South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, mozambique, and Nigeria to be exact.

In every place but SA the security was some totally disinterested local looking at your closed bag with a stick and MAYBE opening it and taking a very quick glance inside.

The basic theory is that, no one gives enough of a shit about nigeria or botswana to pull off a terrorist attack on one of their planes. There is no security. it’s all a farce.

      • Johnnywad

Times are changing apparently. Nobody gives a shit about Somalia do do they? Any plane with Westerners on it will probably be enough. Be careful when you go home MB. Sounds a bit sketchy for me.

        • MB30SD

    Good job Talib

    • MB30SD

stupid. that said, way to go NFL to try and keep Car in the game.

      • willbest

It was for pulling off his helmet, I thought

        • MB30SD

but still, you don’t change the outcome of a game for that shit, you talk to him. Hate those fucking flags. cunt nfl

          • SC Dave

            No, you enforce the rules.

          • MB30SD

shocked you’d say that. wonder if you would have had it been against your secret crush team. Traitor. hahaha

          • willbest

Smack talk is different than pulling off your helmet.

          • MB30SD

no, it’s the same. exact same

          • willbest

Alight, I will concede that he shouldn’t get flagged as long as anybody that head butts a player in that situation, also doesn’t get flagged.

          • MB30SD

just hate when the refs create game outcomes

  • MB30SD

    fuckin waaaaaaaahhhh…

    • SC Dave

      !?

      • MB30SD

you don’t call that and change the outcome of the drive. lame

        • SC Dave

I repeat. You enforce the rules.

          • MB30SD

rules are meant to be broken ; )

          • SC Dave

I know you like that… why else the love affair with the seachickens.

          • MB30SD

because their D is badfuckingass… but not as badass as denver’s.

            …and I’m not a sissy. ; )

  • SC Dave

Panthers have not made a single play on offense yet.

  • SC Dave

They need to let Newton run the ball a couple times to wake him up.

    • MB30SD

and have miller or ware put him to sleep for the rest of the game. risky.

      • SC Dave

That last one where he almost made stewart fumble… he had tons of room to take himself that time

        • MB30SD

again, you’ll be singing another tune when he gets rocked… almost like that.

  • SC Dave

    Wow… a play

  • willbest

I don’t understand throwing it behind the line against the Broncos, they are just too big and too fast to do anything with it in that situation.

  • MB30SD

ok, let’s say they’re the same price and we can choose, which do you take:

    BMarshall

    DTrevathan

    • willbest

I think Marshall is a restricted free agent. So they can put a tender on him and force draft pick compensation.

    • willbest

Wonder how it works, they only pay them like 50k to lose or 100k on a win

    • SC Dave

He categorically should have been ejected on the play.

GP, shady, doc, and I playing jetpacks maings. come on, let’s do this.

          • The GP

            true story:

I just got back from the Michigan UP. I spent the weekend rocketing the trails in a Ski Doo 600. But I buried it in a snow bank at 10pm way up in the mountains at 11pm last night with nobody around. And it was 20 degrees on the shores of lake superior.

I just got home, a snowmobile came by at midnight and I was good and fucked up by then. He got me out, but I was spent. I rode it home – barely. I am sore and just generally fucked up.

          • MB30SD

jesus dude, you see that shit on the TV. I shouldn’t be alive.

People die like that. you’re smarter than that lad.

          • The GP

yeah i got some frostbite. i was a reckless fuck this weekend and got a little into the deep end

          • MB30SD

yikes. glad you made it back my maings.

          • The GP

            ty

          • Doc Nitty

MB’s right. Never go into the wild alone.

          • The GP

Not to defend myself, cause I was fucking stupid – but I WAS with a group and they peeled off because we hit some stupid treacherous ice slopes and I was one of the few to make it to the top. I wasnt going back down, if you braked the sled would swap ends or tip it, so we had to press forward. Then – I took a different route back from the other two who made it to the top and that was very dumb

          • Doc Nitty

Were you scared shitless or what?

          • The GP

I was scared. We lost our fuel carrier. I had enough to make it back but only if I pressed forward and I couldn’t go back down. This wasn’t a hill. This was a former ski slope, I’m talking about going back down 3000 feet of glass ice. There was no way down once you were up. To press ahead on the trail was the only way.

          • Doc Nitty

I look forward to seeing the movie one day. Crazy, man!

          • The GP

            “Terror in the Porcupine Mountains”

            Wow! Glad you’re ok GP.

          • The GP

Thanks Trac. I hurt my back and my right arm is insane sore, I think I ruptured tendons in my bicep

          • Doc Nitty

            What’s Michigan UP?

  • Doc Nitty

Dude. Kuechly. Fear Boners. Holy shit.

    • MB30SD

      beeeast

  • BearDown100393

Evidently the Park District subcontracts turf services to Santa Clara.

  • willbest

Panthers should have been flagged for interference

    • SC Dave

Wormed erfectly for Denver. Guy *should* have finished the interference and prevented a return

  • The GP

damn. Denver’s gonna win this on ST and D alone. Do it for the old man

  • Shady

So the Carolina players thought it was a fair catch and didn’t tackle the returner? How often do you see that in a season?

    • BearDown100393

      Sometimes between dabs.

    • SC Dave

Only the first couple. Fortunately #97 ran him down

    • willbest

They got confused when they hit the punt returner before the football got there.

  • SC Dave

    An Allen sighting??

  • BearDown100393

    Awareness!

  • willbest

Broncos are probably lucky. It looks like his knee was down before the first down. Not that Chico could challenge

    • BearDown100393

Lovie Smith being honored by burning up challenges early in the game.

  • BearDown100393

Sunday Bloody Sunday blaring during the kickoff. Weird.

  • MB30SD

holy shit, did you see the ref get crushed on that play?!

  • MB30SD

dude, he’s going to die one day. yikes!

  • The GP

    Newton was not down

    • MB30SD

      agree

  • MB30SD

  • willbest

I didn’t see the late hit.

    • MB30SD

      me neither… I was like, uhhhh….

nfl doing it’s best to make the game interesting

    • SC Dave

Helmet to helmet. As obvious as fuck

      • MB30SD

smh, don’t be a homer dave

        • SC Dave

Did you bother to watch the replay?

          • MB30SD

yes. stop fucking babying the QBs. he was a runner… not a QB. hate that rule. slide or you’re a runner. period

        • MB30SD

          * such

  • DaMurph

Are you fucking kidding me………….hold onto the fucking ball!!!!!!!

  • BearDown100393

The Broncos are simply leading every tackle with the helmet. And the Panthers are coughing up the football.

  • Shady

    Nice play big man.

  • willbest

Good job manning take 3 points off the board

  • MB30SD

    hahahahahaha…. manning is so turrible

  • DaMurph

    Wow

  • SC Dave

Guess we’ll see if the Panthers can play a second half… uh wait..

  • willbest

    Get Oz out there.

    • MB30SD

      100% this

      • The GP

yeah right like that will happen

  • BearDown100393

Manning needs to go into Dilfer mode.

    • willbest

      Hasn’t he been?

      • BearDown100393

Dilfer would never be that stupid on that last pass attempt.

  • SC Dave

    Denvers defense is fucking good

    • BearDown100393

And tend to be stupid with meltdowns.

      • SC Dave

        I hope so

        • BearDown100393

Maybe it is just me. Or maybe it is because of the quarter ton mountain of nachos I just ate. But I’m sensing something incredibly stupid about to be witnessed in the 2nd half. I don’t know who will do it, but it is going to happen.

          • SC Dave

How about a garo yupremian (sp?) Except that it works and the panthers win?

    • SC Dave

And the Panthers need to make fucking play

  • SC Dave

Why aren’t the fucking Bears playing!?!?

    • BearDown100393

Because Shea McClellin is still on the team?

    • willbest

Name more than 3 defenders that are guaranteed to start for us next year?

    • SC Dave

It was a fucking rhetorical question. …

  • BearDown100393

White guys in a Prius outrunning Chicago cops. Thanks Rahm for making the city look a bit more stupid.

    • willbest

At least they were white guys, like you know everybody in NASCAR.

      • BearDown100393

        Awesome.

  • Shady

Need Cam to do his best Russell Wilson impression here.

  • DaMurph

    Cam is looking very UN-MVPish

    • BearDown100393

      He’s hurt. Something’s wrong.

  • BearDown100393

Newton’s walking up to the line. No hurry. Grimacing. And throwing flat footed. Something’s wrong.

  • willbest

    What 2 minute drive

  • Doc Nitty

Cam doing the Donovan Mcnabb two minute drill.

  • Shady

Denver’s D is SMOTHERING right now. Impressive.

Cam is going to need to break out his cape in the 2nd half if Carolina is going to hoist the Lombardi.

    • willbest

His body language is off. Something is wrong.

      • Johnnywad

Yeah. He’s getting his shit pushed in by Ware and Miller. That would feel wrong.

  • BearDown100393

Maybe that end of half face plant into the turf will replace the dab next season?

  • Johnnywad

I want pass rush. I’m falling in love with the Broncos D Line. How the hell did the Bears ever hang with this team this season?

So the Broncos only have 6 starters returning from their super bowl 2 years ago. That is impressive. Very impressive.

    • willbest

Elway built it through FA too.

      • Johnnywad

And it’s a completely different identity than it was just two years ago. Making it look easy.

    • BearDown100393

They want this one bad. So Peyton will finally retire.

  • The GP

No answer for Ware and Miller. Chico needs to re-align sets and force some screens to keep them back

    • willbest

Broncos LB are too good for screens.

      • The GP

        what does Carolina do then?

        • Shady

Run the football, set up the PA while they still can.

        • willbest

They seem to be at their best when he gets out of the pocket.

  • BearDown100393

Let’s trash an already bad field a bit more by holding a completely unnecessary Coldplay set.

    • The GP

they lead off with the song they stole from Joe Satriani

      • Irish Sweetness

Was there ever a better instrumental than ‘Always with you always with me’?

    • SC Dave

Lol… was going to congratulate the NFL for teeny- bopper destruction of the playing surface.

  • Seriously, cold play? is there a more pussy band?
He should be relegated to badminton tourneys,or ping pong championships.

Why does the NFL insist on signing the bands that NFL players never listen to b4 the game?

    • The GP

I vote for a Tone Loc comeback

      • BearDown100393

        Funky Cold Medina.

        • SC Dave

          This

    • Shady

Why does the NFL do anything?

      • BearDown100393

They had the right idea with the dude in the flying space suit for SB I.

      • To improve society?

        ($$$$)

    • willbest

      Generational hatred runs deep.

      • BearDown100393

This “performance” should unite generations. Not tear them apart. This is beyond awful.

      • I don’t mind new GOOD bands. Besides, Coldplay is probably older than me

    • The GP

Paul Westerberg once said if he was ever to fire a gun, it would be at Coldplay

  • BearDown100393

Remember when the half time show was all grit and dirty with dancing blue sharks?

    • Huge Bear’s Penis

      those were the days. lol

  • The GP

Fun fact: Coldplay asked David Bowie to sing a part on one of their songs. He declined. When asked why, he said “the song isn’t very good, is it?”

    • willbest

Better than whatever Beyoncé was singing.

      • The GP

her dancers are making Xs and Os. Get it?

        • Doc Nitty

          Ooh I get it!

  • Doc Nitty

I actually watched pregame all day since it’s the last football day in a long time. I drew the line at Coldplay.

    • BearDown100393

Draw the line… Aerosmith. So much better.

  • SC Dave

Thank god this bar has buzztime so i dont have to watch this “entertainment”

  • BearDown100393

    Make it stop.

  • Doc Nitty

I took up smoking again. But only during Coldplay.

    • BearDown100393

Addicts everywhere jumped off the wagon.

  • Huge Bear’s Penis

a tribute to past halftime performances??? maybe they are killing it after this year.

    • willbest

      I like it

      • The GP

        actually somewhat classy

  • willbest

So Beyoncé was paid with a post half-time show promo for her new tour.

    • BearDown100393

Formation? Thunder Hips seems more apt.

      • willbest

I was going to say something about her being 40 and to cut her some slack, but apparently she is only 34

  • The GP

Congrats to Boldin on the Walter Payton award.

MB said we should have picked him up in FA 3 years ago. He was right.

    • BearDown100393

Only the best win that one.

    • Doc Nitty

I was def with him on that train. Always had a mancrush on Boldin. He plays WR like Walter ran the ball. Hard-nosed.

  • willbest

WTF is that shit? A guy not going to a SB party because he is in one of those moods. Stop violence.

  • So, the Donkeys have done the few things I thought they could to win the game.

They scored early to keep the Panther’s honest.

Like I said, they’re not like the other defenses in the top 5. They have their own tier, and tonight shows.
I said Miller or someother defender would have to transcend into 06 Lach, and Miller is doing just that.

I really hope Trevathan and Malik become bears. 90% Trev will, not sure about Malik.

The Donks are trying to force Cam to pass. His cmplt % is not high, unlike his throws. He came out blasting, but has settled down a bit. Cam needs to learn touch, but right now he’s hearing footsteps and over zipping it. It’s not like his WRs are all pros.

Like always, the Donks D will have to drag Peyton, but not sure how long they could do it for.

Eventually, Cam and gang will break out and change momentum; The Panther’s are a momentum team. Like the juggernaut, they need to get a little going before crushing.

Peyton will have to respond with a drive.

Does he have a final one left?

    • The GP

good analysis. The Panthers LT needs help

      • In his defense, is there any LT that can block Miller one-on-one throughout the game?
        Maybe Joe Thomas. Maybe.

Donks are so loaded, that even if they do, Ware or Malik or a blitz will get through.

        • The GP

          Middle running is stuffed.

  • BearDown100393

    Bai – winner

  • BerwynBomber

Manning is lucky he doesn’t have 3 INTs.. Ironically, Rivera might lose to a team playing Lovie Ball: all Defense and STs.

    • willbest

I only saw 1 other bad throw than the one that got picked.

  • willbest

Somebody on here picked Ginn to bring it.

  • willbest

    Grounding…

    • BerwynBomber

      Well outside the pocket …

      • willbest

        Not past the line though.

        • BerwynBomber

          Ah, didn’t notice …

  • BearDown100393

    Von Miller was held.

    • The GP

Newton has to release the ball once the pocket dissolves

  • willbest

    Why not first and 25

    • SC Dave

      Dunno… continuation of play?

  • The GP

    Talib can’t hang with Ginn

    • willbest

      Not when Ginn is rested

    • BearDown100393

      Sweep the eye.

  • BearDown100393

Football doesn’t seem so fun and easy for Mr. Newton tonight.

  • willbest

    Wow… momentum killer there.

    • The GP

      so was that missed fg

      • willbest

That is what I was referring to.

    • AlbertInTucson

And another missed call for this crew. Talib was clearly offside.

      • Johnnywad

I wasn’t sure he crossed over before the ball was moving.

        • AlbertInTucson

          Panther sideline sure did.

          • Johnnywad

            Go figure

  • SC Dave

Oh wait… that was againt Denver? Pick it up.

    I keed.

    • willbest

They didn’t even show what it might have been.

      • SC Dave

        Kind of my point

  • Shady

    Old coach Joe Decamel toe.

  • BerwynBomber

Bad camera work. Didn’t even offer a replay of the overturned flag.

    CAR looks desperate. Killer miss.

  • The GP

When I think Mini Cooper, I think….. Harvey Keitel?

    • willbest

Don’t we all. Don’t we all.

    • BearDown100393

      Mr. Wolf.

    • AlbertInTucson

      “Mr. Wolf”.

  • Shady

Jared Allen. Did you guys see that awareness?

    • BearDown100393

After the game, he’s donating it to Canton.

  • SC Dave

Chico and staff outcoached so far

  • BerwynBomber

CAR showing lack of poise in numerous areas.

    • willbest

Denver just showing lack of poise by talib

  • willbest

    We have kicking experts now?

    • AlbertInTucson

CBS has used Feely all through the playoffs.

      • BearDown100393

        Scott Norwood would’ve been better.

        • The GP

          Bills humor

  • The GP

Did Thomas Davis pin his arm?

    • Johnnywad

Yes. I believe i heard 12 screws. Also noted that he would likely break it again in this game

      • The GP

        ugggh

      • BearDown100393

I’d trade Shea for those 12 screws.

If Manning gets SB MVP as a quasi-life time achievement I am going to lose my dinner. My vote is for Von Miller right now.

    • AlbertInTucson

They certainly aren’t ahead in this game based on anything Manning has done.

    Alright Heinz, that was good.

  • DaMurph

    Sloppy sloppy sloppy play.

  • The GP

Does Heinz really need to advertise? Is there a ketchup alternative?

    • willbest

A bunch actually. Hunts is pretty big in some regions.

      • The GP

        ok. Thanks.

      • Doc Nitty

        • DaMurph

I dont know if you have Mama Selitas out there but you can get it on line and I think its awesome ketchup

    • Shady

Here’s a tip for you: Next time you buy ketchup, buy the cheaper store brand. It’s literally the same stuff as the brand names, they just sell what’s left to the stores to sell.

      • willbest

If you buy Heinz from Costco its cheaper than the store brand. And then you get what they think is their best batch.

      • BerwynBomber

Yeah, but if you blow a bunch of scoring opportunities against a good team, it usually bites you in the end.

      • willbest

        6 sacks isn’t it?

        • BearDown100393

He’s been on the ground a ton this game.

Too much stupidity by the offensive coaches too. The pocket gets crushed time and again. Yoh have the best running qb in the league. And you dont know what a mfucking rollout is

This is the Ravens 2000 Super Bowl redux. Carolina is playing the part of the Kerry Colins Giants

      • The GP

I don’t get why Jeff doesn’t like this game. This is a defensive statement Super Bowl.

        • Johnnywad

Yep. I love this game. Tired of the bullshit rules engineering high scoring games. Legit pass rushes are negating the bullshit.

        • AlbertInTucson

Yes, but the Panthers have shot all 5 toes off of one foot with the turnovers and the pre-snap penalties.

  • BearDown100393

    Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.

  • SC Dave

The NFL has decided this is the Manning Bowl, clearly.

    • BearDown100393

    • willbest

Because Carolina was told to slap the ball out of the WRs hand after the play is over?

      • SC Dave

Ok… you are right. Enforce the rules

  • SC Dave

      • BearDown100393

        Yeah perhaps

        • AlbertInTucson

Besides, the Panthers are trying to give this away with both hands with the TOs and pre-snap foul-ups.

    • willbest

I thought it was later demonstrated he paid for the water and it was incompetent reporting.

      • The GP

hmmm, is that you saying that, or is there a link? Because it was pretty widely reported at the time

      • AlbertInTucson

        Incompetent reporting? Go figure.

        • The GP

So it appears Selleck paid $22k and all the investigation fees, but the State still insists he stole the water

          • The GP

            the blog in a nutshell….

          • willbest

$22k was the investigator’s fee. So he basically allowed them to save face, and avoided the cost of having a trial about it.

          • The GP

A legal settlement between Selleck and the Calleguas district, which was formally approved on Wednesday by directors of the agency, will prevent Selleck from drawing water from the district for use on his ranch in the Hidden Valley area northwest of Los Angeles.

    • Johnnywad

Reminded me of some Bears games this year. Adam Gasing it.

    • BearDown100393

The storyline will be artificial. If the Panthers score, it will be because the Broncos defense couldn’t ‘contain’ him. If the Broncos win, it will be because the old veteran out foxed the younger league MVP.

  • AlbertInTucson

This sets up nicely for a TD drive capped by a missed PAT, no?

    • AlbertInTucson

      Or not.

  • Shady

    Lame.

edit. Credit to Miller but I was really hoping for a good end to this game. Disappointing.

Where’d that come from? Just sayin.

      • willbest

Earlier in the week when both Cam and Ron dropped idiotic comments on that subject. Might have been last week.

        • Trac

          Got it.

    • Trac

And their tight end reminds me of Bruce Jenner.

  • Doc Nitty

All three Panther stars shit the bed in that sequence. Newton decided not to dive for the fumble, Norman held, and Kuechly missed the tackle. Sorry to say it but the Panthers don’t deserve to win.

    • willbest

Neither does the Denver offense. Can you award a Super Bowl to half a team?

  • willbest

Panthers are done, and they know it.

  • BearDown100393

Cam Newton acting like a baby.

    • willbest

And this is why his antics on the other side aren’t well received.

      • MB30SD

        Yep

      • Johnnywad

        Love it

  • Doc Nitty

Wow. Rivera waving the white flag. Didn’t see that comin.

    • BearDown100393

Exactly. Simms running bs on that punt also.

  • Doc Nitty

Sorry Peanut. I wanted it for ya!

    • MB30SD

      • Doc Nitty

He’s just a good guy. I would’ve liked for him to houst the trophy. I don’t think I’d feel that way about just any former bear.

        • MB30SD

totally get it. Love him. just didn’t feel real not in a bears uni. like it would just be a fake ring and trophy that doesn’t mean much

        • MB30SD

Or to us. We need it

          • Johnnywad

It’s how you pay for surfing and top shelf strange. Water shortage.

    Chico must hate Peyton Manning

    • BearDown100393

He should hate his own quarterback’s performance more.

      • MB30SD

        Exactly

        • AlbertInTucson

Why? His offensive line wet itself. 7 sacks and 6 pre-snap penalties.

          • Irish Sweetness

Jesus, really? We’re going to the Super Bowl. Soon.

  • BearDown100393

Von Miller – most dominant defensive performance in the SB?

    • AlbertInTucson

Clearly the MVP but, he had help from the rest of that line.

  • MB30SD

I didn’t see this coming at all… I called for a blowout after all, but gotta say I’m really happy for Peyton even though he didn’t have much to do with it. He deserved it. And that broncos D is absolutely monsterous. Good for them. Love that shit. Nothing better than a monsterous D man.

    Ps. Fuck the Panthers

    • SC Dave

Was going to thumbs up. But down instead from the p.s.

      • MB30SD

Hahaha… I knew I’d get you dave. Loves you maings. Denver deserves this. They came to play

    • Trac

      MB…KISS…OF…DEATH! HAHAHA

  • willbest

    Nice play.

  • BearDown100393

The only worthy story tonight is Von Miller, Demarcus Ware and the rest of the Broncos defense (exception Tallib).

  • willbest

Does Fox win this year if he wasn’t fired? Was Elway right?

    • BillW

Yes he would have won this game at least. Would get have gotten there? Maybe not

    • BearDown100393

The result speaks for itself. And validates the decision.

      • BillW

But I’m glad we have him

  • willbest

    Some Van Hagar. Nice.

  • BearDown100393

1 million cameras belong to Von Miller. NOT PEYTON MANNING.

    • MB30SD

Give him his send off maing. Guy’s a warrior

      • BearDown100393

Yes he is. But it ain’t right.

        • willbest

          • BillW

            Plus 1000000

    • willbest

But Then we wouldn’t know to drink budweiser

  • BillW

I wanted Carolina to win. I thought they would easily. They puked. I doubt they get there again

    • Johnnywad

Why? That’s a very solid team. They’ll be food for a while.

      • MB30SD

They will be food for a while

        • Johnnywad

          Precisely.

      • BillW

I assume you meant good. I don’t think they recover from this. Newton had a career year and he sucked. Olsen? Was he even there? Rivera did not have his team ready. Did lovie rub off on him? Defense wins championships. That’s the lesson I hope Pace knows and remembers

        • Johnnywad

I don’t know Bill. That D Line was the best I’ve seen since the Giants beat the Pats in the Super Bowl. That type of defensive performance is going to prove rare I’m betting.

          • BillW

Could well be. I’m pissed Carolina was not up to it. Fuck ’em

            Go Bears 2016!

    • BearDown100393

    • Irish Sweetness

      • Shady

        Probably.

      • willbest

I don’t, it was competitive, it was a defensive slugfest.

    • MB30SD

      I wish you had 4 titties…

  • AlbertInTucson

Bears did a better job against Denver.

    • Johnnywad

Very true. Hard to figure isn’t it?

      • willbest

No pressure of the big game. On soldier field turf.

        • AlbertInTucson

          Like Soldier Field’s an advantage?

          • willbest

            Mud stops the pass rush.

          • AlbertInTucson

Guys were slipping all night of that notoriously bad Levi stadium turf.

          • willbest

How could a two year old stadium have notorious turf?

          • Johnnywad

They mentioned it quite a few times on the broadcast tonight

          • willbest

Oh so its a media induced narrative. Not something that has a historical significance.

          • AlbertInTucson

Surface has been replaced about 4 times this year.

  • The GP

I did not read the tea leaves correctly and chalked beating the Pats to a declining Pats team and a sub-par Brady. That was not it.

Wade Phillips and the Denver D was much better than I expected. The D just won that game.

    • Johnnywad

How the hell did the Bears hold up against that pass rush?

      • BerwynBomber

Our O-line was pretty solid this year — best in the division at least — but yeah, still a valid question.

        • AlbertInTucson

Cutler did a better job in the pocket, too.

      • AlbertInTucson

Denver had 2 sacks for -4 yards. Did Miller play that game…?

        • Johnnywad

          I don’t recall

          • AlbertInTucson

Maybe it was Ware that was out for the Bear game.

          • Johnnywad

I did some googling. Ware was out. Miller played and had one sack and a forced fumble to go with three tackles. Even with Ware out, that’s an impressive performance against Miller.

      • willbest

Also keep in mind we played without Alshon Jeffery if he was in that game, we would have probably won.

    • BerwynBomber

Historical D. And worst starting QB on an SB winner since Dilfer. Actually Dilfer was probably better that year than Manning was this year.

    • BearDown100393

Wade Phillips is a heck of a defensive coordinator. One of the best.

      • willbest

No he was out of football in 2014 when we opted to retain Tucker

        • MB30SD

          Sigh

    • AlbertInTucson

I believe Wade Phillips was out of football the year Trestman hired Tucker.

    • Irish Sweetness

Yup, glad I didn’t have a bet. Don’t bet the SB. Those points sure did look attractive though.

  • Johnnywad

    Justice

    • The GP

      Equal to Strahan or Dent

  • BillW

    Retire already

    • AlbertInTucson

      Nantz made a good point.

Announcing his retirement tonight would upstage his teammates.

It would have been a Favre move.

      • BillW

You are right. He is handling it perfectly. Hard to dislike him. Does everything right. Well, maybe

        • BearDown100393

Except use a PO Box number for shipments.

          • BillW

            Yeah. There’s that

          • AlbertInTucson

The source recanted and said “I made it up.”

            Let’s see some actual proof.

          • AlbertInTucson

You want to float YOUR home address if you’re famous?

Not saying he didn’t do it but a P.O. Box means is “evidence” of squat.

        • AlbertInTucson

Not his fault that’s where the media decided to swarm.

  • Shady

How much did InBev pay Manning to say that?

    • The GP

The Clydedales are now his personal Uber

      • willbest

        That would be awesome.

Dog driving was the winner in our house. Says a lot about us and /or the commercials

  • BillW

Sloppy but interesting sb. The best part? The Packers weren’t in it!

  • The GP

Have we ever seen a Super Bowl where one team had no interest in playing offense?

Hid did hit a 38 yard TD pass ito put the Ravens on top early inthat game and then he took care of the ball.

    • willbest

Is he referring to the Broncos? Because I don’t recall them having much interest in offense 2 years ago either.

  • AlbertInTucson

I read the Sunday paper at halftime.

Probably not a bad idea. He is going to get cut. If I had his money, and taken the hits he has taken, I wouldn’t do it again for the 2 million plus incentives he will get on the free market.

      • MB30SD

        That and he’s an asshole

  • BerwynBomber

Have to give Elway credit. He gambled on Manning, high-priced FAs and even a questionable HC change. Will be interesting to see what happens when he can no longer afford to pay his D talent. Does DEN completely disappear or can he re-boot them in a few years?

  • BerwynBomber

Other than DEN’s historically good D, big difference in the game seemed to be poise, or CAR’s lack thereof. A dozen penalties for triple digit yardage is piss-poor and (fair or not) ultimately points to coaching and preparation. Not a good day for Chico.

Btw, that was arguably the worst QBed SB in decades. Newton’s PR was 55.4 and his QBR was 16.9. Manning’s PR was 56.6 and his QBR was 9.9. Manning’s QBR will undoubtedly stand for years as the lowest for an SB-winning QB.

    • Irish Sweetness

What was his PR in SB 41? He sucked in that too.

I’m happy about that though. All week it was BJs for the greatest QB of the past/present/future … and he lays an egg.

See that presser during the week?
(female) reporter : “It’s been said that you are to football what Usain Bolt is to the Olympics.”
      Newton : (shrugs) …yuh … I don’t know what to say … it’s an honor……

      @#$%$% !

      • MB30SD

Hahaha… cept bolt blows shit up in the Olympics. You know… where it counts.

    • willbest

Kind of destroys the best QB wins narrative. Wouldn’t surprise me if at SB C if that is still the lowest. It could be like Farve’s INT record. Unbreakable.

  • BerwynBomber

Wonder if Peanut retires? Or if CAR will be interested in re-signing him?

    • willbest

I love Peanut. He needs to listen to his body.

  • That Guy

One thing that would have made the difference for Carolina? Steve Smith. He’s got to be smiling right now. I counted at least 6 times a Carolina player missed a catch that the top guys all make.

  • BearDown100393

Apparently the League MVP wasn’t in the mood to dab or talk at the post game presser. And walked out.

    • BerwynBomber

Read that. Also saw that S. Young took him to task for it.

      • BearDown100393

        So did Sanders.

      • SC Dave

        Fuck steve young

    • MB30SD

      *sniff*

    • willbest

Remember when 26 year old Jay Cutler looked poutty on the sidelines of the NFCC. Good times.

  • Irish Sweetness

Got back from the Thai DMV, where it went down like this.
    “Got your documents?”
    “Yup.”
“Got the documents that we don’t tell you that you need on the website?”
“Yup.” (in your FACE!!) (she was impressed, nay stunned, I had my tax document)
    “Okay. Come back next month.”
    “No way!”
    “Way.”
    “Why??”
“We only take 20 foreigners a day.”
(I’m #6 in the queue, but I know what happens if I fuck with her.)
    “Okay.” (she was impressed again)
(stamp stamp, hands me an appointment slip)

Get into work without having had the SB result spoiled. Turn on NFL Network hoping to catch a re-run. Late late Show with James Corden starts(!) … he goes “Don’t spoil it – I have the DVR set” ….(nice one) …..”…just kidding … congratulations to Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos!)

    F-You FATBOY!

2 super bowl rings. And his brother too. FML.

  • Irish Sweetness

So I didn’t see the game. Did the great Greg Olsen show up or what?

    • willbest

He was pretty much a non-factor. We were totes dumb for trading him though. So says Jeff.

      • MB30SD

        And a few others.

As I posted below. Catches a ball 1 yard away from a 1st down on a needed 3rd and can’t drag a guy 5″ shorter and 50 lbs lighter the extra yard. Classic olsen.

        • MikeBrownhadaPosse

Getting YAC is not something Olsen has ever been good at.
Good thing we had Manomoooooola to do that!

  • SC Dave

Congrats to the Broncos. Defense and specials just too good for Carolina. Panthers defense played well, but the offense could not handle the l.o.s.

Given what the Broncos did to Brady, I consider it a pretty big failure of Shula to have not had things in the playbook to specifically take advantage of a mobile quarterback. Rollouts, moving pockets, etc.

Maybe he should have looked at what Daddy’s staff did to get Marino out of the teeth of the Bears pass rush in 1985.

Not that it would likely have changed the outcome, but you HAVE to do something different when what you are doing keeps failing.

  • MikeBrownhadaPosse

    So….what did I miss?

    • MB30SD

Well well well… and all you do is ignore my invites

      • MikeBrownhadaPosse

On PS3? Shit, maing, all I do on there now is watch Mother Goose Club with the keedz.

        • MB30SD

          • MikeBrownhadaPosse

Do they help with the shanking?

          • MB30SD

            A bit

      • Trac

Not used to that are ya big boy?

        • MB30SD

          Nope

          • Trac

Back in the day, ladies actually used to cross their legs. Just sayin.

          • MB30SD

            Not according to madmen

  • MikeBrownhadaPosse

OK, maybe this got covered last night – how was the second ‘fumble’ by Newton NOT an incomplete pass? Was Newton’s arm not moving forward at the time the ball came loose?
