I really like the radio cast out of Iowa, and the phone calls with the beatwriter guy. Someone mentioned the lack of Reverend’s Rant – more Rev would be good too.

    • Ososfan

      Miss the Rev, lol.

  • BigHurtNYC

for chrisaake can we find a way to bring back the weekend show!?!

    • DaBearsBlog

Weekend Show will be returning and owning the Friday slot for the beginning of the 2016 season. New songs, many guests, Reverend’s Rant….etc.

      • FQD1911

nice! i’ll try to catch more of your Iowa shows…bad timing each time you appear on one.

  • Doc Hamstring

Simply put: more content. Doesn’t have to be long think-pieces. Doesn’t have to be thought-provoking. But what I’d really like is someone who knows where to find news and information about the team and puts it together thoughtfully. The Tribune sucks anymore, and I haven’t liked the Sun-Times since Royko left, and ESPN is hit-and-miss and a nightmare to navigate, etc. I’m sure both writers and readers of this blog pick up interesting bits of news and can post it (or at least link to it) here.

In short, have some “clearing house” posts. “Bear News” or “What people are saying about the Bears” content that fills in for a picture of a bedazzled ball, or a “one sentence to think about over the weekend” type post.

    • Swing Tackle of Destiny

      Royko? That’s been awhile now.

If Jeff could get more content from Adam Jahns that would help

      • AlbertInTucson

A Royko reference !!!! I played softball (16″) against him in Lincoln Park my last summer in the Chicago Area. He pitched for the Trib. I played for Chicago Today. Bill Jauss pitched for TODAY.

        • Swing Tackle of Destiny

          Were you a WTTW guy?

          • AlbertInTucson

            For stuff like MONTY PYTHON.

          • Swing Tackle of Destiny

            did you load the tapes?

          • AlbertInTucson

Oh, I never worked in TV in Chicago. I was on the Chicago Today team becauise a good friend worked there part time and they needed some players to fill out their squad. I did once “guest host” THE PAT SHERIDAN radio show on WMAQ..

    • Irish Sweetness

Or just write ‘New thread’ … and we’ll just plaster in the boobs, cars, aliens and contemporary political discourse.

Desire for the blog? More polls. Especially on contentious stuff. Such as:

#1 Should the Bears be looking to pick up a Vet receiver? When the Marshmallow man Mr. Softie goes down with a sprained vagina, who are we putting across from Kevin? Mr. Wilson? Is that the kind of 1-2 punch that wins our division?

Seyi Ajirotutu, 6’3, 215, 28 years old, can play ST.
      Hakeem Nicks, Age: 28
      David Nelson, 6’5, 215, 29 years old.
Chris Owusu is 26 and ran a 4.36.
      Dwayne Bowe – 31 – league min ?

#2 Should the Bears give up next year’s first rounder for Mo Wilkerson? Take the pressure off the DBs and bring back the Monsters?

      • wasn’t Owusu on the Bears? He sounds familiar.

I say bring back Joe Anderson!

I’d rather have him than any of those guys. He can also ball on specials.

        • Ososfan

Anderson is with the Jets now, I believe.

      • Ososfan

I’m down for more boobs and conspiracy theories lol

  • Shawn

I love this site and have followed it since a year after it started. The posts are good and accurate and don’t have the senseless hate for players or the Bears that ESPN, NFL Network, Tribune, and most other places have. The one thing I think would be good, but you do it some already I think, is more GIF type posts of players and plays for after the game breakdowns. Just some more great incite and unbiased real talk. Great work! Keep it up.

          • Irish Sweetness

I left a slice of processed cheese out in the sun once. I came back later and it was a square inch or so of hard plastic.

          • MB30SD

            Let’s do this!

    • Reverenddave

I’ll take that endorsement from a Spurs fan.

  • CanadaBear

More content. More posts. If nothing else, if you posted every other day at least, the comments would be much easier to navigate.

  • Artoo

I really hate how I can’t see all the comments and I have to load everything to see what everyone posted.

I get the need to not just post to post. I really do. However, I hate when we have these super long threads and we can’t follow each other.

Maybe have polls about what we want to talk about each week and expand on that?

It could easily be a variety of topics.
“Who has the best shot at the division?”
“Which player in the NFC North that was injured last year is primed to dominate this year? ”

So on and so on. It doesn’t have to be about the division and just about the Bears. Yet, let’s be real, the Bears have to win their division if they want to go anywhere. Especially when the Packers are definitely wanting revenge for Thanksgiving.

    Just my .02

    • Irish Sweetness

      ‘Sup Artoo, how you doin’?

      • Artoo

Doing fine. Just traveling and working at the same time.

      • Artoo

I like that but I miss being able to just scroll down and read everything.

I would literally soak up everyone’s ideas and opinions. It was so refreshing.

Now, it’s a hassle. Especially on mobile.

That being said, I’m always here. Just lurking

  • CanadaBear

I was reading this innocuous article and I finally realized that Dickerson really is a genius. He’s figured out how to get paid writing this hooey. The article is 100 predictions for the 2016 season. Here’s #77 from my pal,

    77. Jay Cutler will be caught on camera in-game yelling at offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains. Cutler had zero known outbursts with Adam Gase, but Loggains’ temper is more volatile. It’s the perfect storm. — Jeff Dickerson

    • I hear a rusty romanian jericho cranking…

    • MB30SD

waaaaah, who gives a flying fuck

      • Ososfan

        We all dooooooooo

    • AlbertInTucson

EVERY QB in the NFL will, at some point, express their displeasure with their IC.

PISS on that item and anything that approaches it.

Sounds like he’s trying to be Rosenbum.

      • CanadaBear

He craps on Cutler every chance he gets. Even when Cutler plays well. JD dredges up some previous flaw and that becomes the tone of the article. Really lame.

    • Ososfan

The other Dickerson dude (who no longer writes on the Bears, thank god) I believe he was worse but, yea, still bad. I thought New York reporters were horrible, yeeesh.

      • CanadaBear

Pretty sure this is the same guy. It used to be him and Michael Wright that wrote about the Bears for ESPN. Wright is gone and Dickerson has been mining the Rosendouche, Haugh, crapola for at least the last few years. Really tiresome.

        • willbest

Dickerson cares more about working his way into a talent on ESPN radio than he does about his beat job. As a result he has developed asinine opinions in order to drive ears.

It was probably 3 years ago where Silvy was out and it was JD and Waddle and I thought that this makes a better show. But his promise evaporated quickly. Still don’t like Silvy, wish they would find somebody less whiny to replace him.

        • Ososfan

Oops! Yea, you’re definitely right, Canada, my bad. Wright was beyond horrible and I believe he hated Cutty more than Dickerson, Dickerson used to be pretty neutral without much BS I don’t know what happened with him… Smh.

  • You’re about to get Jericho’d

Crazy scammer story that could have ended badly.
A friend was searching online for an Acura TL and found one on Craigslist. It was beautiful, super low miles for being an 05 and was just overall a beautiful car. He traded texts with the “seller” who answered his question about the low price by saying that the car was her son’s but he had died about 9 months ago and she just couldn’t keep it around because of the terrible memories of losing him.
The problem was that the cell phone was a NY number, the sellers needed the deal to be all cash and since they were out of town a cousin would be there to conduct the transaction. The location chosen was a BAD fucking neighborhood full of empty lots and not a lot of foot traffic.
My buddy thought about it for a skinny minute then freaked out because this person had his cell phone number now and was obviously ready to go through with strong arm or armed robbery. He texted the NY number that in order to be fully honest and forthright he had to admit that he was going to be armed at the meeting to be completely safe and would be bringing an armed friend who was a cop.
The text shot back that they had just heard back about another buyer and that they accidentally told both people it was for sale and that they had to cancel the deal and to not show up.
Craigslist is no joke man. Serial killers, rapists, robbers, pedo rings, prostitutes and god knows what else.

Everything turned out fine for my friend though and he’s enjoying his Jeep now.

  • You’re about to get Jericho’d

Can’t lie, logging onto the Bears site and seeing another article about Danny Braverman is making me shake my head. 5/10 (see 5’8 or 5’9 at the most) 177lbs (see 170 to 175lbs at the very most) as our fucking slot guy? Are you fucking even kidding me right now? Contribute on specials? So Danny is going to return kicks, punts or cover kicks and punts? Whatever man, put a fucking NFL body on the field and call it a day.
It’s not 1978 god damn it.

    • Sactowns#1

So at 177 that’s about 27lbs more than Knox right?

      • You’re about to get Jericho’d

haha, Knox almost died on the field. He was 6feet and probably in the mid 180’s. He got fucking broken in half. They are talking about Braverman needing to contribute on specials. That is like asking for the first Bears player to die right in front of us.

    http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/making-sense-of-the-bears-reported-lack-of-desire-to-sign-alshon-jeffery-long-term/

    • willbest

He is wrong about one thing. Jeffery’s tag next year would be $18 million. He loses nothing in negotiations if White is a true #1. Somebody is paying Jeffery plenty of money in 2018. By contrast if White stumbles and Jeffery gives you 16 games of Alshon, Bears are going to end up signing him to a 5-year 16 mil a year deal

The price goes up because the tag is no longer an option, so he is free to negotiate with any team. Also every year the cap goes up 8-12 million meaning top 15 talent get to gobble all that up. And that will continue to happen until some team figures out how to employ the Irish strategy of having a roster entirely of guys nobody remembers but don’t completely suck while winning the super bowl.

The link that Lori posts is actually in Germany. It’s a scam site run from Dusseldorf.

Maybe Hans Gruber is behind it.

      • That Guy

Lori is the roommate. She’s never posted on here because she’s too busy making a little over.17k Dollars a month!

Inciidentally, $98 dollars an hour will get you to a little over $17K in about 4.5 weeks. Technically possible in a 31 day month with 4 weeks and 2 days on the clock full time.

Then again, 3-5 hours job a day is less than $15K even if you work 7 days a week.

The math isn’t adding up. I’m starting to think Lori might not be being completely honest with you Keira.

    Cincinnati Zoo fiasco/tragedy.

This one is ALL on you, Zoo. If you design, or have designed for you, wild animal enclosures that cannot prevent a 3-4 year old from entering it, THAT is negligence and that’s on YOU.

I don’t care why or how Mom lost track of the child and thus subjected it to a myriad of possible dangers, including kidnapping, abuse or murder, but falling into the Gorilla habitat can NOT be one of those possible dangers and I expect you’re going to be writing a rather large check in the very near future.

Note to Parent. Kids that age should be on a harness.
You always know where they are and they do not wander off.

Ours was tethered at at that stage and we never once had to search for her, be paged to the service desk to claim her or notify the authorities to help us find her.

Yes, we got an occassional funny or derisive look as we walked along with our daughter wearing a cute vest attached to a tether held by one of us, but we also got comments from other folks who complimented us on our wisdom and child care.

    • willbest

About 20 years ago a kid fell into the gorilla habitat at Brookfield Zoo. As far as I know they haven’t made any real modifications to it.

      http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2011/08/16/15-years-ago-today-gorilla-rescues-boy-who-fell-in-ape-pit/

You are almost certainly right from a modern day legal standpoint, but this is on the parent for pretty much what you said. Its the parents responsibility to protect the kid from any open and apparent dangers. Which includes a 15 foot drop into an animal pen on the other side of a 3 foot fence/barrier. If you aren’t up to the challenge you shouldn’t put yourself in that situation.

At the end of the year, “You have knock up anyone? No? OK. Here’s $1000 kid; I recommend saving it for a car to get poon. Just don’t inseminate aforementioned poon cuz next year you won’t get shit”

Might cost at the start, but def worth the investment.

    • Irish Sweetness

The sad thing about that was the gorilla was dragging the kid to safety and then it was protecting the kid.

      • Trac

It’s a crime to cage these amazing creatures the way they do.

      • Captain Obvious

I dunno about “dragging the kid to safety.”

I’d definitely agree the gorilla was dragging the kid. And the gorilla was getting increasingly agitated by all the people screaming at it.

I’m gonna trust the zookeepers in this–they know the animal and their equipment. If they say it was safer to put a bullet in its head than to risk the tranquilizer dart and how long it would take to kick in, I’m gonna believe them. It’s not like they WANTED to kill the gorilla.

      • You’re about to get Jericho’d

Irish give me a fucking break

        • CanadaBear

I read where tranquilizers can agitate animals while they are kicking in. That’s the main reason they didn’t screw around with a tranquilizer gun.

        • DaMurph

Thanks for that response Johnny, you saved me some ink on this one. Our minds are one on many subjects!

          • Yikes!
We should send Lori a crate of baboons.

          • CanadaBear

Baboons are really nasty fuckers. A chimp isn’t all that wonderful either if it goes off the reservation.

    • Trac

      1. You are dead on my friend and I very much agree with you.
      2. A child is worth saving and killing a Gorilla in order to control the situation is a no brainer.
      3. Zoo’s are pathetic, they should be closed down. All of them. Do the right thing and manage game preserves where these beautiful animals can actually live they way they’re supposed to.

      • Captain Obvious

Regarding #3, where are you going to build these wonderful “game preserves” to hold all the animals currently residing in zoos? Who is going to fund these preserves? Zoos make money off of admissions in order to support their animals… are these “game preserves” going to charge admission to cover their costs? And if so, how expensive will it be to visit them?

Given that some animal species are so threatened in the wild that zoo populations are pretty much the only hope for the species making it into the 22nd century, weve got a problem.

I know I trust zoologists and biologists–the people who are educated and trained and know this stuff–to tell us when we need to cut bait on zoos.

        • MB30SD

          Check aftica

          • Trac

Bingo!!! They don’t know my man. My first memory as a child while visiting zoo’s was thinking how unfair it was for these animals to be caged up the way they are.

          • MB30SD

Yeeees. Hundreds (if not thousands) of private reserves in SA. You just have to seperate the predators from the prey and you’re good.

The wild animal safari park here in sd does a great job.

Btw, murph sent me the pic. Holy shit maings, sorry to see that. Nationwide? Haha (btw, I sent him a pic of last night boobies in return, I think he won that exchange )

          • Trac

            Thanks MB. It’s all good.

          • willbest

You mean where people pay $50,000 to shoot old Lions in order to fund them? Sometimes killing the wrong one?

ed. Also where poachers are able to hunt rhinos to extinction because the Chinese like their fertility treatments?

          • CanadaBear

I hunted for 40 years (pheasants and rabbits). My litmus test for hunting is, if you shoot it you gotta eat it. You can’t kill an animal for a trophy. That’s just wrong on numerous levels. I watched Gen. Curtis Lemay (Goldwater’s running mate) shoot an elephant on American Sportsman when I was a kid. They walked up to within about 15-20 feet and killed it. Apparently they can’t see worth a damn so if you come from downwind it’s hard for them to know you are around. Other than the fact that a .458 Winchester kicks like a mule, it was about like watching someone walk up and shoot a cow. I was so bummed out after watching that, I had to re-think hunting.

          • willbest

If some psychopath is going to pay you $50,000 to euthanize an animal you were going to have to do anyway, then that seems like a good deal if it is being used to sustain the conservation that protects the other animals.

But outside of that, if you want to hunt for sport stop playing on easy mode. If you didn’t craft your weapons from raw materials yourself, then you shouldn’t be using it. Its not man v. nature if you go out to the store and buy a $2500 rifle and $1000 scope.

          • Huge Bear’s Penis

shoot em up BANG BANG. I see no problem with sport hunting has long as it is not an endangered animal, and it is legal. If people want to use a bazooka to go hunting more power to them as long as it is legal.

          • Sactowns#1

I’m with you Canada. Trophy hunting is a laughably arcane practice.

          • CanadaBear

At this point in time, I don’t understand why anyone would do it. If your dick is that small get a large SUV.

          • Couldn’t agree more, Canada.
            That’s why I don’t really consider myself a cookie-cutter progressive.

If you want to hunt, you should eat it. Do like the Native Americans. Say a little prayer to mother earth and thank the animal for giving its life for your sustenance.

OR, if you’re gonna trophy hunt, it should be with a homemade bow and arrow, spear, or bare hand like Leonardo DiCaprio.

(or maybe old musket. I read that in the frontier days some explorer’s musket balls would bounce off bears! Haha Imagine their surprise)

But I think individual states should decide on their own.

The ironic part is that a lot of hunters actually donate the most to preservations and the such. The Teddy effect I suppose.

          • CanadaBear

Most hunters are very concerned about conservation. A ton of the money from licenses goes towards studying the species, setting bag limits based on their findings, providing habitat for the animals and policing of the rules. Pheasant hunting in Iowa you can’t shoot the females. Females can have at least one brood/year and they avg around 6 chicks. They have 3-4 broods in their lifetime. Males go around impregnating at will (sound familiar?) so if you thin out their ranks it doesn’t affect the population. If you thin out the females you’re looking at killing about 20 youngsters for every female killed.

          • MB30SD

The problem with big territories is they are harder to defend and require more money to maintain. So there is a balance involved. I personally, do not have the information to make that decision.

          • MB30SD

I don’t have time to write a 2 page dissertation about how shit really is on the ground in africa based on many real world inputs and first hand accounts from people who live there full time and work and live game management and conservation. The troffs is pretty amazing… it would probably blow your mind a little.

I’ll give you a one sentence summary. Trophy hunting funds 95% of conservation and you’ll never stop poaching because it’s poach or have your family starve.

Zoo’s should be closed down, those that are not like the Belize Zoo that is.

        http://www.belizezoo.org/

Incredible place. The hurricane several years back that hit central america wiped out the zoo entirely, and all of the animals returned waiting for their “homes” to be rebuilt. And this isn’t because they have had their survival instincts whittled away to nothing, it’s because the zoo is setup to be exactly like the animals natural habitat. This is the way to go for zoos.

        • MB30SD

You gotta see it to Belize it!

Even King Kong was given a chance with chloroform before being brought down by an airstrike.

    • Captain Obvious

Except this is the first time in the history of that exhibit that a kid got in. That’s a 20+ year-old exhibit, and Cincy is a very busy zoo, so you’re telling me that they had a negligent design that somehow defeated tens of thousands of kids until this one?

I agree something was wrong with the design. But it’s not to the level of negligence.

And the mom fucked up, but losing track of your kid for half a minute in a zoo shouldn’t mean disaster.

No one owns the blame on this. Mom lost track of kid. Zoo’s design failed one out of 10,000 kids. Most of the blame belongs on the head of the kid, but who’s gonna hold a 4 year-old to blame? Not me.

I don’t hate golfers. I’m half kidding about my lack of love for the golfing crowd. I just found that some of them are the most miserable bastards around. Always bitching about something if conditions aren’t perfect and just generally an over privileged bunch of A-holes. I know you’re a good guy so obviously that doesn’t apply. Like any stereotype, there’s a lot of truth and a lot of hooey involved. It didn’t help that I worked with a bunch of golfers years ago and a couple of them were the biggest asshole racists I’ve ever been around.

          • Big Mike

Yeah, I’m a public course kind of guy, who happens to belong to a Country Club. I’m awful by the way, but I love it. I know the type you refer to. Here’s an example. Guy gets outraged because he slices a ball two fairways over and I picked his ball up.

          • CanadaBear

My fave were the guys that are throwing grass up in air before they shoot. More often than not they are 150-200 yds from the green. Most of those guys would be lucky to get it on the green no matter which way the wind is blowing.

My brother worked at a really crappy golf course as a teenager. He bought me a set of junior clubs when I was 10. I played until I was 28. The last time I played I was walking up the 18th rough (never in the fairway) and I thought, “Man I’ll be glad to finish this round.” I realized I thought that every time I played.

No politics in commentary. Stick to the topics. Bears, NFL, Sports, Boobs, or positive contributions of a general nature.

    • CanadaBear

I made that plea years ago. Jeff let’s us do our thing in the comments and apparently a lot of people like to argue politics. I just try to ignore it. Ain’t nobody changing anybody’s political beliefs on a football blog (or pretty much anywhere).

      • Big Mike

Jeff can’t do anything about it and he shouldn’t. I don’t mind political discussions. I like getting different insights. I don’t like talk radio level commentary. Not for football, not for politics. Leaving the shouting and ranting without facts for your Facebook wall.

        • CanadaBear

Yeah, I pretty much know the politics of the regs and just skim over the posts when things get over heated. I find the back and forth interesting up to a point but once it gets nasty, I’m out. Like you say, save that shit for FB or ESPN comment sections.

          • You are right that no one is changing anybody’s mind, but that’s only the one’s who think they know it all.

There’s plenty of “lurkers” out there that might be on the fence.

I know someone who was waffling on Trump then when he heard a little bit more of him he concluded, “I get him, but I can’t vote for that guy.”

Also, it’s good to get diverging view points.

All too often ppl live in an echo chamber. We’re all guilty of this, and it’s only natural.

My FB feed is literally all Bernie tidbits. I don’t think anyone on my FB is even republican, and if they were, they’re not admitting it nor are they voting for Trump.

So I don’t mind hearing why ppl would NOT vote for Bernie.

(Often it’s about $, as if Hillary or Trump will do better).

It’s the same reason I watch FOX news. I like getting the other side of the story. Maybe it’s the Libra in me.

This blog is ok with not name-calling too much.

But hey, we don’t have to talk politics to do that.

I think bloggers have name called more arguing over Cutty than all the socio-political debates combined!

          • Irish Sweetness

Cutty is the Golden Child, I hope we are now all agreed on that.

        • willbest

But this is the best election I have ever witnessed. Very disappointed Trump reneged on his Bernie debate. If Bernie had done well against Trump that would have been the death blow to Hillary after the State IG report that has people at real newspapers going oh wait there might be something here. Plus Bill Kristol pushing David French as his 3rd party run candidate. The guys on the West Wing couldn’t script better than this.

          • CanadaBear

I read a really funny one about the cancelled debate. It referred to Trump as a chicken hawk and didn’t blame him for canceling due to chickens having a sketchy relationship with people named Sanders.

          • Big Mike

I can’t afford Bernie Sanders. If he won the nomination, I’d vote for him. But my congressman, senator, governor would all be expected to tap the brakes on his economic plan which has more holes in it than the Bears Defense the last few years. I earn pretty good money now. A lifetime of work and investing in companies that I was building has panned out. I’ve estimated his plan would cost me $20k+ per year.

          • willbest

Bernie’s tax plan would cost me between 12-15k based on my napkin math. Now in theory I could get most of that back through his “free” healthcare plan, but my guess is that I would end up buying into a concierge practice in order to get a better doctor with a shorter wait time.

Fortunately, everything about Bernie’s plan is DOA in the House. So I don’t really have a problem if he is president. I expect it to be a pretty inept presidency outside some judicial appointments and a continued quasi-isolationist foreign policy. Now he will get some leeway in dealing with the recession that occurs the day after Obama leaves office, which probably means he will get some form of his “free” college plan through.

          • Big Mike

Agreed. His social positions are solid. Wanting to cut military spending is a noble goal, but it has to be diverted to infrastructure spending. My principal issue with where the US is not, is the erosion of the middle class, weakens the nation more than some fucked up religious idiots living in the dark ages somewhere in the middle east. If we haven’t learned that taking sides there is a zero sum game, we’re idiots. Check ISIS, then let them sort it out on their own.

If we can offer public education k-12, why not k-16. It’s not f’n rocket science. I’ll tell you why, Universities are cartels. Higher education has been corrupted by outsized expectations, subsidized financing that leads to low cost, low requirement loans, that are funneled to universities, bookstores etc.

Hillary, Bernie, don’t really care. Hillary is more experienced, but some people hate her irrationally.

          • willbest

You just said it yourself. Hillary doesn’t care. Plus she is being investigated from criminal misconduct, and the State IG has just concluded she violated policy despite multiple warnings. She hates people, yet she wants to lead us. Even SNL makes fun of her for it. So its plenty rational.

As for education, most people don’t even need K-12. They need K-8, with 2 year vocational training and a 2 year apprenticeship. 4/5ths of the country flat out does not have what it takes to be an engineer/doctor/hedge fund manager or be a part of the “intellectual” class. But they can be plenty productive and what they don’t need is top spend 17 years receiving generalized knowledge that isn’t going to really help them be productive.

          • Big Mike

She’s been investigated 20 times. Nothing ever sticks. Didn’t say she didn’t care. Said I didn’t. She’s just not a great campaigner. I simply love the idea of Bill as First Lady.

If a country can afford to detonate nukes on the far side of the moon and keep 135 standing armies, it should first educate its children.

Trump wants to double the size of Military. How does that get paid for?

          • Big Mike

There is nothing realistic about Trump’s foreign or domestic policy. Without attacking his character or qualifications, he’s proposed programs and their funding sources that are illegal, violate international trade policies and/ or would require that entire nations and their leaders become as gullible as his supporters. More practically, he’s chosen too many fronts to fight on.

          • Sactowns#1

Chicken man Trump never wanted to debate Bernie. Do you think Trump has ever been in a fist fight in his life, or even a serious conflict where he wasn’t able to just walk away? Seems like a thin skinned wimp.

This guy was on Bill Maher last weekend and he had the most insightful view of Trump ascension, in my opinion. He wasn’t attacking Trump or his supporters etc. he just outlined how he has used cheap sales techniques to garner support. I thought he hit the nail on the head. http://blog.dilbert.com/post/145153992666/how-to-hypnotize-bill-maher

    • willbest

I have been following Scott Adams take on Trump since August. I found it insightful enough that he persuaded me to buy his quasi-autobiographical quasi-self help book. Though that isn’t too much of a strech for me because I already own The Dilbert Principle and Dilbert Future.

ed. Incidentally, those “cheap” sales techniques are highly effective. I have read a few books on the science of marketing. Humans are amazingly prone to manipulation. Even when we know we are being manipulated we massively undervalue its effect.

    • As long as he’s not a muslim refugee, or one of those rapist mexicans, nothing to worry about…

  • OK. So I had to scroll through the archives for this which is like searching for shit using microfilm (btw, maybe being able to search based on key words or topic would be spiffy)

Some of these ideas might be rednundant since we hashed them out a few threads back, but…

    Some ideas for Jeff

    1. Bring back Rev Rant back! Yeah, I know it’s the offseason , but there’s gotta be something tangentially Bears related he’s irate about.

    2. Shoot the breeze with Jahns once a week. Those became my fav very quickly. Don’t know if Jahns is too “Hollywood” now and overly busy, but a once a week Bears rehash would be nice.

    3. Open up for guest articles. Andy has been a nice addition, esp covering all things slave-auction and draft. I don’t suggest Jeff read all entries (as a guy who corrected english papers, I wouldn’t wish that on anyone), but from certain trusted bloggers or regs.

3a. I think what we’re missing a bit is covering the Bears from an XsandOs angle So ideally, aforementioned guest writer could inform us on why Slauson was dumped, or how Bullard needs to improve technically, or why Fuller is (or isn’t) a fit in Fangio’s secondary, etc.

Or maybe some comic relief football. Parody articles, homer articles…

    4. Obviously, some interviews, even if it’s with bubble-roster bears. I know Jeff can’t pull the hot-shot ones like Cutty, but even the lower tier guys would be kinda cool. In fact, the no-names one might actually be better cuz no one loves a scrappy underdog more than this blog! (Irish?)

    5. Uninspired? Hungover? Banging a chick over the weekend at the boardwalk?

    New thread. Blog Poll.

    6. I too enjoy those Radio interviews. I still think Jeff sounds like Shefty, but he’s a fun interview, and he’s the only reason I’ll ever tune in to listen to Iowa, Idaho, or whatever the fuck radio.

    7. Maybe some Bears history? We are the longest storied most glorious franchise with a record amount of HOFers. Maybe every once in a while a Bears profile on an old player, maybe like the Galloping Ghost, Bronko, Animal, etc. Or…this day in Bears history…maybe u can tap Al for this.

    8. The DBB contest was fun, maybe bring it back? Though I know it was a pain in the ass for u.

    9. I like ur twitter feed (when it’s about Bears). Maybe link MORE Bears related articles from non-douchbags like Biggys, Jahns, PFF, etc Sorta like a consolidated Bears archive.

    Just some ideas.

None of these will happened, but can’t say I didn’t pull my weight.

I have an idea for a new kind of company.

All I need is about $20M in startup capital.

    An employee loan brokerage.

This is how it works. Companies with lots and lots of blue collar workers, cashiers, installers, feet on the street – they do not want to raise wages to a living wage or be subject to increases in minimum wage legislation. But there is very little blood left from the turnip, and workers are becoming so poor they can’t even get by, own a car and get to work reliably. And that’s a problem.

    So, what to do?

We set up a company, all of us here on the blog, and we act as a payday loan company WITHIN the company walls. We “loan” money to the workers of the company who need it, using their 401k savings as collateral. We charge “effective” interest rates, like 13 or 15%, much less than most payday loan companies on the street. We kick profits back up to the company management so they get a taste – and then we have them sign air tight legal agreements giving us access to directly take the 401k fees that we need when the workers inevitably fall delinquent. Because they don’t make enough.

I know, I know – you guys are saying “gee GP, that sounds swell, but it also sounds like legalized loan sharking, as well.” I say: don’t be a pussy! Are you going to take charge of your life and act to live the life of wealth that you deserve or are you going to whine about morals and not cheating the little guy? God WANTS you to be rich. He FAVORS the bold. Be bold.

Loan payments can be deducted DIRECT from employee paychecks, with loan terms lasting from six months to three years. If employees leave their jobs, they continue paying from their own bank accounts! It’s foolproof!

Not offering a low-cost loan option is not going to prevent people from getting a loan. By NOT offering, we are going to force them to do something worse, like some payday shitshow with a seedy storefront. This gives them BETTER interest rates. We are doing the little guy a GREAT SERVICE!

It’s like willbest says, most people are destined for serfdom anyhow. Education is wasted on them! Most people are stupid! Sure, this may SEEM like a road to perpetual serfdom, but you will be the shark not the minnow! By the time it all blows up, we will all be on a beach, earning 20 percent!

Admit it, it’s the opportunity of a lifetime. I know you’re in, so all we need is the start-up capital and we are good to go.

    • Trac

Isn’t the Vatican already doing this using the “global” business model of your plan?

      Timing is evrathing mate.

Psst…See the secret Treaty of Verona and the Treaty of 1213.

      • Swing Tackle of Destiny

        http://kashable.com/

        • Trac

          dang? I’m impressed. hahahaha

    • Irish Sweetness

Be the shark, absolutely. And if people take out loans they can’t pay back, tough titty. Such is life.

    • That Guy

You don’t need the company to sign anything to get access to the 401(k). The problem you have is, retirement funds are “exempt assets” in collection proceedings. The only way to reliably get to the funds would be to have a recorded lien on the actual accounts. Even then I’m not certain the lien would be enforceable.

As to the “payday loan within the company” idea? You may run into wage laws that have to do with docking employee paychecks, but I don’t see any reason why you couldn’t follow that business model within the company just as well as without.

But I’m not interested in being that guy. I file BKs for folks all the time to get them away from this sort of thing.

    • willbest

People can borrow from their 401k’s the lesser of 50% of the amount saved, or 50k. They have a few years to repay it, and the “interest” they pay themselves goes back into their 401k account. They get I think 10 years if they are using it for their primary residence.

The people that use payday loans don’t have 401ks. If they did they would use those. They could also just suspend contributions and their paycheck would increase by 5% or whatever it was they were already sticking in.

  • AlbertInTucson

“Pro Bowl is a pointless event. Just put it out of its misery.”

    Yes and yes.

    • CanadaBear

I’ve read numerous times they should just change it to a skills competition. If they did that and made it a week-long competition where all the players MUST interact with fans throughout the entire week, I think it would be wildly popular. Not so much with old farts like me but I would rather watch that than the Pro Bowl. I haven’t watched that since I was a kid. I think a skills competition would build more brand loyalty than anything. Kids love this type of stuff and it will make fans for life. Not to mention the NFL could milk this on TV for days.
