DBB Weekend Show – Week 13

| December 1st, 2016

On this longish episode of the Weekend Show:

  • Jeff breaks down the issues the Bears face in finding the “quarterback of the future” this spring, with a little help from his well-placed scout friend.
  • Adam Jahns tells you Pernell McPhee is playing at 60%, Kyle Fuller isn’t doing enough off the field to impress the coaching staff and confirms Jeff’s belief that Jeffery is headed for another tag and Hoyer to the starting lineup.
  • Reverend Dave mails in his sermon on crab racing. (And I mean mails in!)
  • Jeff picks the Bears out of tradition. He really believes the injuries at linebacker and inability to keep contain will lead to Kaepernick running wild Sunday.

    I win!

“I don’t believe Loggains has flopped. I believe Loggains has done a yeomen’s work with what he’s been given. Firing him would be a mistake.” – Jeff

I think Loggains has been inconsistent. I don’t find that surprising for a first time OC. He wasn’t awful like Tice. But Georgy is probably going to want a fall guy, and he is going to be a relatively cheap one.

    • BearDown100393

      #BirdCage

    • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd HOFerPick#6(Butch)

It is hard to judge Loggains.

The first few games with Cutler were HORRENDOUS.

But was that Cutler, or Birdcage (or perhaps both)?

Then Hoyer and Howard came in, and boom. The ball moved. Less 3 and outs. Longer drives (including like a 95yd TD drive). Sacks and Ints were down, the ball was spread (mostly cuz of Hoyer, but also some Birdcage).

Birdcage stuck with the run a little more (but again, perhaps because of the no turnovers and competitive games).

Big problem in the redzone still, but that was for various reasons.

That GB game was really the only time our O was pathetic. But the GB O was also pathetic (only like 3 points into the half, I think). Just one of those games. Then Hoyer gets inj, and the wheels come off.

Then Cutler is good vs Minny, but Cargo vs Bucs (see handle).

We were then all expecting a Clausen game, but got more of a McCown game from Barkley, and possible hope.

All this while Sitton was literally learning on the job, an inj Long/Alshon/Royal, and rookie C – and then backup OGs and for one game, RT.

I know seasons never are perfect, and all teams have to plug backups in, but when a team is down two PB OGs , star WR, and down to its 4rth QB, really hard to get a clear picture as to where Birdcage ends and where personnel begins.

Birdcage was my biggest worry going into the season, and I had my doubts, but for now his grade is an incomplete.

The one good thing, and it’s huge, is that he’s shown a penchant for making subpar QBs look better than they should.

    • CanadaBear

He was previously the OC with the Titans.

      • willbest

Ah, I didn’t think he called plays though. I went and pulled old articles and it turns out he did. So, I shouldn’t cut him any slack in that department.

        • Irish Sweetness

The HC should call plays. End of.

          • CanadaBear

A defensive HC should call offensive plays? Really? I’m guessing Lovie wouldn’t have been real good at that. Same with Foxy.

    • Huge Bears Penis

Fire the ST coach. Can’t keep his kick returners from leaving the endzone.

      • willbest

I have to believe they are told to do that. Nobody could be that bad.

        • Huge Bears Penis

Then he should be fired for telling them to leave the endzone.

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd HOFerPick#6(Butch)

Fret not, for the chosen one shall now return kicks.

And much like the first chosen one, he’s a jew.

          • Huge Bears Penis

To be successful, it will take a Braver man than we have had to take it out of the endzone.

          • MB30SD

            Did you just… Jew did!

I see what jew did there

      Scary stuff.

      • MB30SD

        ouch

        • AlbertInTucson

          Per NFL network on Sirius/XM.

  • dmckendree@post.com

There is a franchise QB if he comes out. He will need to develop for a season but he is the real deal. Pat Mahomes is the best talent to potentially come out.

    • Huge Bears Penis

not even close to being a franchise QB. would need several years to develop. not consistent/accurate enough.

  • dmckendree@post.com

    BIG MISTAKE:
2015 Draft the Bears had the 7th pick. The board included three players the Bears should have coveted and they were Marcus Mariota, Leonard Williams and Vic Beasley. There was a lot of talk about the picking either Cooper or White that infuriated me at the time. The bears needed two things above all else and there was an ample supply of top talent available for them to choose from at #7. They virtually assured that either Fowler or Beasley would be there and I wanted Beasley but when Williams was passed on by the Redskins I was elated but this is where the Pace decision to give away Marshall to the Jets came back and bit him in the ass. The Jets who would have needed a WR took Williams, the best talent in the Draft not a QB, That left the obvious choice of Vic Beasley but Pace made the foolish choice of Kevin White. It wouldn’t have mattered if it had been Cooper still on the board or not. WR was not the choice the Bears needed to make. Injuries aside White was a project and Pace should have seen that. hell I did and I am not an NFL talent scout. He is the kind of talent you take when you don’t have an abundance of needs to fill..

    • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd HOFerPick#6(Butch)

I was hoping we would trade with Washington at #5.

We could’ve got Williams, and Washington could’ve still picked up Scherff most likely.

      Oh well.

Could’ve had Aaron Donald the same way. 1 pick away.

      • willbest

Yes and we traded with the Bucs to get Floyd to prevent the Giants from supposedly taking him.

        • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd HOFerPick#6(Butch)

From everything I read leading up to the draft, the Gmen were indeed going to draft Floyd.
So Pace got that right, although whether Floyd is the right guy is still undetermined.

          • Irish Sweetness

            No it’s not, he’s a stud. Jesus ….

      • dmckendree@post.com

I was hoping for a trade with Tennessee more though.

    • willbest

I personally didn’t like the idea of taking a WR when even after Marshall. We still had Royal, Jeffery, and Wilson. Now Wilson isn’t great, but he is a big guy with a decent catch radius and he would have been the 5th option anyway behind Jeffery, Forte, Marty, and Royal. You don’t exactly need a stud there. We had nothing at LB and Vic Beasley was at a minimum going to be a solid contributor.

All of this set the bar so high on White that unless he turned into a top 10 WR, he was going to be a bust.

      • dmckendree@post.com

        Agreed.

      • AlbertInTucson

And now we don’t know if he’s even a viable asset anymore.

    • BerwynBomber

I was one of the few that was high on Mariota among DBBers, and even I hedged a hair. It was Scott from WI who was completely sold on him. But we two were about it.

But here’s the thing: we can all claim our occasional draft successes and failures. Better to focus on whom the Bears did pick.

My issue about the White pick is it seemed a luxury. We had already given everything Cutty needed for a few years at that point and the ROI was minimal. And I don’t care if your OC is John Shoop, if you can’t put up huge #s with pass catchers like BMarsh, Alshon, Uni and Forte, why should I give you another toy? Especially after we had ignored the D a couple of years to give you the first set of toys?

Positional need vs. best available will always be a debate, but that year it seemed a waste to spend the #7 on another receiver.

    • Huge Bears Penis

Looking back Lincoln should not have gone to the theater one night.
who cares it’s history. move on.

News flash! Lincoln was a dead man walking whether he went to the theatre or not.

        Just sayin…

I like it. More support for Pace’s bullshit decision on Marshall.

    • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd HOFerPick#6(Butch)

“The epitaph for the Cutler era will likely carry the same tone as his
persona: equal parts dismissive and contemptuous. His record as
Chicago’s starter now sits at a cruelly appropriate 51–51. Among players
with at least 3,000 pass attempts since 2009, only Ryan Fitzpatrick has
a worse interception rate. In Cutler’s seven seasons, the team has the
same number of playoff wins as it has playoff appearances: one.”

      • BerwynBomber

Surprised his INT rate was THAT bad. Figured he would be top five but second only to Fitz? Yikes …

        • CanadaBear

Me too. I had to keep in mind that Jay throws them in bunches when he has a bad game.

          • MB30SD
          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd HOFerPick#6(Butch)

According to that article, first Jay Bears game. 4INTs right to the pack.

          • AlbertInTucson

I thought Jay’s first game as a Bear was a win vs. Lions..?

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd HOFerPick#6(Butch)

            From the article.

” It felt like a turning point, a new age for a franchise that
desperately needed it. Then he went 17-of-36 with four interceptions in
his first start — against the hated Packers, no less.”

The “turning points” started early with Jay.

          • AlbertInTucson

He led a 4th quarter comeback and beat the Steelers the next week, 17-14.

          • CanadaBear

I was on Cycle Oregon that night. My bike riding buddy is from Wisconsin and we went to the bar to watch (it was MNF). That was the same game when #54 screwed up his wrist and went on IR. My buddy got drunk and rode me unmercifully about Cutler and the Bears that night. To the point that it actually pissed me off. Sometimes karma is a real thing. The next day’s ride he got 7 flats. SEVEN! Needless to say I rode the living fuck out of him that day. + he had a HOF hangover. Sweet!!!!!!!!

          • CanadaBear

See below a couple of posts.

          • BerwynBomber

Though that’s probably true of any high INT guy …

          • CanadaBear

One thing I do admire about Cutler is he truly doesn’t care about his stats. He’s always trying to win, even in hopeless situations. Guys like Erin would rather give up the gay lifestyle than put his stats on the line.

    • BearDown100393

So Jay’s a bad guy for yelling at Mike Tice and J-Webb?

      Got it.

      • BillW

Did he yell at Tice? I certainly remember him getting pissed at Martz for calling 7 step drops with a JV o-line.

        • willbest

Tice wasn’t getting him the plays in before the officials cut off his headset I thought. There were a lot of looks of “wtf” over to the sidelines as I recall.

ed. I don’t think Jay threw him under the bus though. I recall a Jay Cutler show where they were asking him about burning the timeouts like that and he said something diplomatic like “well you don’t get to keep them, so you might as well use them”

          • BillW

Ah yes – I do remember this too. We certainly have had more than our share of problems on the sidelines.

      • AlbertInTucson

But Erin’s a “leader” when he gets in his rookie centers face and constantly points the finger of blame elsewhere.

        • BearDown100393

          Yep

    • SC Dave

He cites that jackass Drew on the NFC Championship Game. Then follows with this, which is how I felt about the whole thing.

“To anyone who saw what Cutler had been through earlier in the season — he was sacked a record nine times in the first half of a 17–3 loss to the Giants that October — the notion that he wasn’t tough seemed downright laughable. He’d spent the better part of four months pulling grass out of his face mask; I wasn’t to going start doubting him if he felt like he couldn’t play.”

      • willbest

I didn’t recall that 2010 was the year he tried to defect to the Giants by walking off to their sideline during the middle of the game.

      • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd HOFerPick#6(Butch)

        That’s how I felt too.
I never questioned Cutler’s toughness, esp after that Gmen slaughter.

But like most fans, I was puzzled as to WHEN that hit on Cutler in the NFC Championship game happened. Do we even know now?

I almost felt it was cumulative and that Cutler might’ve been inj even before that game, and one lil tweak was just enough.

But seeing him just ride that bike while Hanie was playing like squirrel on crack was brutal.

I can’t imagine all that was going through Cutler that moment, but I was hoping he’d at least help Hanie on the sidelines, but maybe he really was trying his hardest to return, or as he later said, he thought he would hurt Hanie more by giving him more info in an already tense situation.

Either way, Cutler is tough in my book.

        • SC Dave

Well, it’s easier to do than one might suppose; e.g. wasting a knee in a sack dance, or running a pattern in training camp.

These guys have tremendous strength, and are moving significant mass. Evolution of tendons and joints is unlikely to have kept up with the tremendous increase of the average size of human beings, and athletes in particular, over the past century or so.

Not sure how well researched this is, but for example:

          http://www.livescience.com/46894-how-humans-changed-in-100-years.html

        • AlbertInTucson

It was a knee. Contact not required.

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd HOFerPick#6(Butch)

True, but that only supports the other negative narrative.

            That Cutler’s fragile.

Like a Chihuahua, tough but fragile.

            Chihuahua Cutler?

Meh. Past is past. I’ll just be content to move on.

My fav play from Cutler is not even a throw.

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48pQbggAcD0

          • AlbertInTucson

Nonsense. You see non-contact injuries all the time.

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd HOFerPick#6(Butch)

true, but it’s a body of work.

Add in the concussions, shoulder, thumb (twice), groin and whatever else.

He’s not the only one. Romo is like that too.

Esp when compared to other more durable QBs like Eli, Flacco, Brady, Brees, Alex Smith, Rivers, Dalton…

It probably has a lot to do with getting crushed for a while. Just adds up.

          • CanadaBear

If you’re on the not to be hit list, it’s a lot easier to stay healthy. Jay was never within 1,000 miles of that list.

          • MB30SD

            (see: Bridgewater, Teddy)

          • AlbertInTucson

I’d say “durable” guys like Brady, The Mannings, Favre and Rodgers would be an NFL minority.

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd HOFerPick#6(Butch)

            Durable AND good, perhaps.

But there’s tons of mediocre/bad QBs who are also durable.

Kap, Bortles, Tannehill, Ryan, Cousins, and I’m not even counting the youngins like Carr, Marriotta, Winston, Prescott, Wentz, or the guys who seem to always be hurt but grind out seasons somehow like Roth, Cam, Luck, maybe Tyrod Taylor

      • http://www.dabearsbeat.com/ Johnathan Wood

Seattle has 1 DB drafted in the first 3 rounds. Earl Thomas, round 1.

Chancellor and Sherman were both 5th round picks.

        • MB30SD

I know. amazing what having a GM and HC who know that the fuck they’re doing and are passionate about winning can do for a team huh?

          • http://www.dabearsbeat.com/ Johnathan Wood

The key for Seattle was identifying the mold of guys they were looking for and then finding guys who fit that mold. They got a lot of good DBs late in the draft by going for big physical guys when everybody else was trying to go quick.

Now the league has adjusted and everybody is copying them, and the guys they have around those 3 stars are not as good.

          • MB30SD

they have them… they set the mold. I’ll take that any day. As opposed to the dearth of shitty white, slow, turrible white safeties. Yay us!

          • http://www.dabearsbeat.com/ Johnathan Wood

ironically, that’s a trend the rest of the league hasn’t copied. I don’t know why.

In his defense, Phil Emery tried to change that trend to shitty fast white safeties when he drafted Brandon Hardin.

Did you guys finish the xmas movie discussion? xmas movie top 5?

Mine (not really ordered, but kind of):
    * Xmas vacation
    * Elf
    * Scrooged
    * Xmas story
    * PT&A

    Honorable mention:
    – The Grinch (original)
    – Polar Express
    – All the classic stop-animation ones lumped together (rudolph, frosty, etc…)

I would have put this at the top of my list, but I consider this a Halloween movie (and my fav), not a xmas moive.
    * Nightmare before Xmas

    • Irish Sweetness

Ah, Scrooged. Awesome flick – that was a great movie experience. Especially if you were shouting at the screen at the end.

  • ButtonShoes

“The strength of the Bears is supposed to be their front seven,
especially with McPhee and Willie Young, but they’ve been punched two
    straight weeks.”

In other words, maybe the front seven isn’t a strength after all. And Pernell McPhee, ever since he’s gotten here, has been all hat and no cattle. Dude needs to put up or just shut up and get his knees back to 100%. If that’s even possible for him.

    • http://www.dabearsbeat.com/ Johnathan Wood

That front 7 has not been anywhere near whole all year

OLB was supposed to be a 4-man rotation with McPhee, Houston, Floyd, and Young. They’ve only had maybe 3 games with even 3 of those 4 on the field. McPhee is still a shell of himself on a snap count, Floyd has missed plenty of time, and Houston went down for good in game 2 or 3.

ILB has seen Trevathan miss several games (and now the rest of the season) and Freeman miss several games as well.

Goldman has missed more time than he played. Unrein has been hurt. Sutton out for the year. Ferguson-who was supposed to be 3rd starter next to Goldman and Hicks-went on IR before the season even started.

Long story short, there hasn’t been a single game this year where the front 7 was missing any fewer than 3 of their 10 most important guys. They’ve often been missing half or more of them, or having some of them playing at half strength. That’s killer.

      • ButtonShoes

If your front seven can’t stay healthy, I’d say it’s not much of a strength.

        • beninnorcal

That’s not really what you said the first time. No one saw all the injuries coming like they did this year. I’ve never seen it this bad.

      • CanadaBear

I keep posting this but it seems nobody believes me. Ferguson was waived. He’s not on IR.

        • http://www.dabearsbeat.com/ Johnathan Wood

Bears official site lists him on IR. He was probably waived/injury, a formality you have to do when somebody is hurt, and then he reverts to your IR if nobody claims him (which is basically what always happens).

          http://www.chicagobears.com/team/roster.html

          • CanadaBear

Guess I gotta go with that. I definitely remember him getting waived.

          • http://www.dabearsbeat.com/ Johnathan Wood

I’m pretty sure it’s what you do when you want to get them on IR but don’t want to have them use a spot on the 90/75 man roster. You can’t officially put them on IR without cutting them until after they finalize the 53 man roster, so teams will cut the guy injured and he automatically reverts to IR when he’s not claimed in the 24 hour waiver period.

I only know this because the Giants did it with their starting TE a few years back and NE claimed him. They had him use a roster spot until cut downs to 53, then put him on IR for the year and he played for them the next year or two. Ultimate BB dick move.

NOLA is a crazy, dangerous city. Love the music and different cultures but the population was always poor and since the flood and gentrification, they are in even worse shape. Not a place where you want to get fucked up and get off the beaten track.

  • BerwynBomber

Not that I’m the NFL’s target merchandise consumer, but MIN’s color crush uniforms are one of the few that seem to work. Maybe it’s the yellow numbering.

  • MB30SD

What do you guys say about Cam Robinson, OT, Alabama, Jr. @ # 3 or 4?

also in the mix there probably peppers, jamal adams, the #2 DL, the top CB. Which do you take?

    • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd HOFerPick#6(Butch)

I haven’t watched him, but Leno has been ok this season, and I don’t believe in drafting a RT that high.

With a top 5 pick, GOTTA take pass rusher, IMO.

Or trade down and get top FS (I would say CB, but apparently it’s a deep CB/HB class).

  • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd HOFerPick#6(Butch)

So, some “experts” believe anyone can do what Dak does behind that Oline in Dallas, eh?

Neither Wentz or Goff do what Dak is doing tonight.

Running for first downs on 3rd and 14, then dropping bombs to Dez over the top.

    • Huge Bears Penis

Wentz and Goff aren’t playing behind that line either.

      • Huge Bears Penis

or a WR even close to the caliber of Dez

        • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd HOFerPick#6(Butch)

Dez was hurt for about 4-5 games too.

      • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd HOFerPick#6(Butch)

But that Oline collapsed on that 3rd down, which is why Dak ran.

And Dak is really accurate, in and out of the pocket, even deep.

That Oline helps, but Dak looks good regardless.

        • Huge Bears Penis

Trade him with Wentz or Goff and it’s a different story for Dak. Not saying he is not looking good and won’t be successful in the league, just saying I don’t believe his progression as a QB would be as quick.

      • BerwynBomber

Wentz and Goff also don’t have Bryant, Elliot, Whitten and Beasley.

        • Huge Bears Penis

yep, any QB would be setup to succeed with the Offensive talent DAL has.

    • BerwynBomber

I wouldn’t sell short on Wentz. He still might end up being better than Dak. If nothing else, I’d HIGHLY surprised if he’s not a top ten guy in a few years.

  • BerwynBomber

Vikes getting bailed out by a couple of homer calls: hands to the face on the INT and the holding that erased Elliot’s huge run.

    • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd HOFerPick#6(Butch)

      Yup.
Figured they gave Pack homer calls, might as well balance it out I guess.

      • BerwynBomber

I don’t mind some homer calls — happens most places — but when they erase TOs and 60 yard gains it’s a bit annoying.

  • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd HOFerPick#6(Butch)

Old sauce running that Lovie D still.

It’s decent except vs smart QBs who can pick it apart little by little.

    • Johnnywad

That was always my contention. It works well game in and game out. But you play a great quarterback and you’re going to lose. He’s not going to make the mistakes you base your D on. It’s a great D to boost regular season tallies. It just doesn’t seem well suited for the playoffs.

      • CanadaBear

It might have worked if Tommie and MB stayed healthy. It should work with that many really good to near great players!

  • Huge Bears Penis

I must admit the Vikings are the 1st color rush Uni’s I have liked.

Lakerish (then again, Lakers did come from Minny)

    • BerwynBomber

    what an UGLY play.

Wow. missed blow to head though

  • AlbertInTucson

    Like I said.

  • BearDown100393

Bradford doesn’t get the Brady call.

    • BerwynBomber

Did you see Brady get untouched when “led” some sweep blocking last week? That was amazing. Like the entire opponent’s D knew they couldn’t touch him. Never seen anything like that.

      • Huge Bears Penis

that was ridiculous. Someone should have blown him up with a hit. He was running as a blocker, destroy him. If I was any of the coaches I would have bitched out every player that was on the field for not hitting him. There are not that many opportunities to put a legal huge hit on an opposing QB, disgraceful that it wasn’t done.

        • MB30SD

          Yeeeeees

          • Huge Bears Penis

I also don’t know why teams don’t have their DBs smack the hell out of the QB anytime the QB goes out wide in the wildcat formations. They can “jam” them within 5 yards, DBs should run up and put their pussy asses into the turf. Better yet send a LB out to cover them and hit them good.

          • MB30SD

            oh jeeeeeeeeeeeees, ohhhhhh jeeeeeeeeeessssssssssss!

        • CanadaBear

And when the refs throw the flag because it’s Tom Terrific, make sure you got your money’s worth!

          • Huge Bears Penis

if a flag was thrown because its Low Pressure Tom then fuck the NFL right in the face.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Blantant roughing miss.

    • MB30SD

Such a bullshit ridiculous rule. Guy gets his helmet slapped and it’s 15?! Hit him after the throw, sure… Girly slap him on the way down from jumping up to block the pass and incidentally smack him a little… Come on.

Exhibit #1 why this game is turning to shit… and loosing viewership every week.

      • AlbertInTucson

That was a 2-hander that yanked on the face mask.

        A penalty. No question.

        • MB30SD

I personally think the ref made the right call Al, deciding the game on a penalty when Bradford had already thrown the ball and it had already left his hand would have been everything wrong with the game today.

Gravity and momentum HAVE to be considered more… There was no intent or even result of roughing the passer… At the point it happened he had already gone from passer to bystander.

          • AlbertInTucson

            We disagree on this one.

The other Al said the streak ended, so guess not.

      • AlbertInTucson

Well, he’s ALWAYS right so it MUST be so.

  • BerwynBomber

Pretty unbelievable that MIN is now 6-6 on the year. I would imagine the list of teams that start 5-0 and don’t make the playoffs has to be pretty small.

    • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd HOFerPick#6(Butch)

when they were 5-0 lot of wind bags were predicting them to win the SB

“defenses win championship.” “if Dilfer did it, Bradford can”

But that also assumes relative health and good coaching, neither of which Minny have.

      • BerwynBomber

Yeah, Bradford (like Cutty) isn’t one of those QBs who can keep things afloat with a shaky line, and despite the supposed “silver lining” of AP’s injury, neither of his back-ups have stepped up to prove themselves as anything more than back-ups.

Their D looks to have returned the last couple of weeks but might be too little/too late.

        • AlbertInTucson

Even a good defense needs their offense to do SOMETHING before the last 2 minutes of a game.

Their offense was a complete no-show against the Bears until 5 minutes left and by then, their defense was gassed and couldn’t get off the field.

        • willbest

Bradford would have been fine except they lost 3 starters on their o-line. There is a reason even mid range tackles make $6 million. There aren’t enough of them to go around.

    • AlbertInTucson

Atlanta manged it last season, I believe.

In fairness, their offensive line has been decimated.

Diggs has been dinged and Treadwell has been a complete bust as their #1 pick.

      • CanadaBear

That’s pretty harsh Al. Treadwell has a 15 yd/catch avg. Unfortunately he only has ONE catch. WOW! When I saw him last night and the announcers said he wasn’t all that fast, I wondered how was he a first rounder?

        • AlbertInTucson

I recall him being touted as the most “NFL Ready” receiver in the draft.

He looked lost on the two throws in his direction that I saw.

          • CanadaBear

He was NFL ready like the Cadester!

  • AlbertInTucson

  • BerwynBomber

DaBearsBlog @dabearsblog Lord is this game awful.

If you arrest somebody you have a limited time to bring them before a judge and tell them what you are charging them with or you have to let them go. If there were enough holes in the witnesses statement that didn’t line up with the forensic evidence then they might not feel they have enough to bring him in front of a judge just yet. Perhaps the ballistics from his gun and the bullets in McKnight won’t be done until Saturday and the judge won’t be around until Monday.

      • Big Mike

Yeah, moving on was right. But WTF do we have to show for it. You cannot tell me the Bears would have done worse than 20 -39 (heading to 20-44)in 4 years. 8-8, 5-11, 5-11 and 2-9 (soon to be 2-14).

The optimist in me thinks we have gotten better under Pace. The injuries this year make it a wasted season. Most frustrating to me is Kevin White, Kyle Fuller and Amos taking a step backwards this year. Trevathan’s injury was devastating because he won’t be right until well into next season. By the same measure, McPhee will be much better next year. I’m telling you the defense is close. The o-line is going to be very good. We’re stacked along the interior. Our 2 backup OGs are playing way better than expected. Long and Sitton will heal instead of getting more banged up and not being ready. Leno has been surprisingly good. Everyone here should know how much I liked Whitehair coming out of college. He has not disappointed. I don’t know what to make of Grasu, you need guys on the rookie contract to play. If he can play Center (I’m one of the few people that think he will be good), I’d move Long out to RT and play Whitehair an RG. Howard learns how to catch in the offseason, Langford sticks around, RB is settled. We need to draft a playmaking TE to go along with Miller. We’ve got plenty of WRs to pick from after Wilson, White (slot) and Alshon. I don’t even give a hoot about who our QB is. Cutler, some #1 draft pick (of which this years’ crop looks thin).

On Defense it’s all about the secondary and pass rushers. My bet would be to take the best CB in the draft if I did not take a QB round 1. If I take a QB RD 1, I’m looking at Safety and CB in rd 2. RD 3 would be whatever I didn’t get in RD 2. RD 4 TE

  • Huge Bears Penis

listening to Dan Le BaRetard on ESPN Radio, He just postulated that the Bears WRs dropped all those passes to shave points and fix the game.

    • AlbertInTucson

      LeBatard. French for “Buffoon”, no?

      • SC Dave

So do we now get “hoist on one’s own Batard” as a euphemism for babbling stupidly?

        • AlbertInTucson

Did you see Bellamy on the sideline after his drop?

He looked like he’d just lost a parent.

          Or his job.

          • Huge Bears Penis

he knew the punishment for dropping the pass was driving through Englewood with a huge #WhiteLivesMatter sign on his car.

          • willbest

Yeah it doesn’t pass the smell test. None of those players have any guaranteed money. If he makes that catch he gets league min guaranteed next year, if he doesn’t he likely doesn’t have a job. That is 600-700k on the line for him. He isn’t going to be shaving for a few thousand unless they got his niece locked in a cage somewhere.

Fingers are crossed – Maybe Jacksonville can beat the Lynch led Broncos.

Bold predictions from NFL click bait article
“By the final whistle Sunday, the 9ers and Bears
will come within 100 yards of the NFL record for most combined rushing
yards in a game (595, set back in 1951 in a game between Los Angeles and
the New York Yanks). Thanks to a plodding passing game on both sides
and a pair of defenses that might be interested in hanging up the
spikes, Hyde, Howard, and Kap will burn through yardage on the ground.”

    • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd HOFerPick#6(Butch)

Is it because a certain someone has Howard on his FF team vying for the championship, eh?

Jax D is finally showing signs of life, but I think that Donk team will actually be BETTER with Lynch.

He can run, so they can do some of that read option, which should open up their struggling run game.

      • EnderWiggin

It should be a really really good game this week between GP and I. Dak getting him 11 points last night did GP no favors, though.

        • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd HOFerPick#6(Butch)

          Just GPs luck.

Dak has been one of his better picks. Consistent all year.

In do-or-die game for him, fizzles.

          And Gronk is out too.

          You def have a shot.

      • MB30SD

yes, I would totally go see him in concert, and I can’t say that about any other country group/band/person.

That said, I have very seriously considered investing in a set of industrial-grade ear plugs and going to check out the morass of hot chicks in daisy dukes/cowboy boots/titty shirts at Stagecoach.

        • CanadaBear

Chicks love Country music. Back in the day they bought 80% of the Country music that was sold. Not sure which I like less, country music or line dancing. Basically low impact aerobics to Goat Roping music. Ugh!

          • Cormonster

My buddy Cheech has a country album coming out in two weeks. Most of it is old school outlaw country and foot stompin’ honky tonkin’ stuff. He also rocks up a lot of old outlaw country songs and turns them into jam tunes. Here’s a tune from his new album about Ginger and Maryann… called Ginger and Maryann.

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZvVvnPzDes

          • CanadaBear

I’ve seen that once before. It’s just too Country for me. Gotta be in the mood for it for sure.

          • Cormonster

Yeah, I here ya. I definitely prefer his rock stuff.

          • CanadaBear

If it’s the old time stuff, I can dig that but other than that, no thanks. It actually creeps me out at times with all the phony patriotism and overt love for god (and we all know which one is the correct one!).

  • MB30SD
    • Sauron’s right eyeball

I really believe some of these high draft picks fail because teams don’t have the rosters to utilize some of the players they draft. its prolly a combination of reasons.

    • CanadaBear

They were close. Michael Haynes has to be #1. He wasn’t drafted as high as Terrell (8 vs 14) but he did nothing. Absolutely nothing.

      • BerwynBomber

Unlike some of our other busts, I strongly suspected Haynes would be one if only because I had actually watched that PSU team a few times that year and had even seen him play live up in Madison one Saturday.

It was obvious Anthony Adams was the best player on PSU’s D-line. Not that he had superstardom written on him either but he ate up most of the double-teams that year. Haynes, I suspect, was a combine hallucination.

        • CanadaBear

I don’t watch college ball so I never have any idea before the draft. He was invisible when he played for the Bears. I’m guessing Terrell got the nod in this article because he was a hot dog and some fans really disliked him.

          • BerwynBomber

I always thought Ennis was our biggest bust, but I suppose the ranking is subjective.

P.S. some of the Big Ten or MAC guys I have some inkling about as I may have actually watched them play. After that it’s mostly just marquee program guys because of national exposure. And even there I don’t watch it as much as I used to.

          • CanadaBear

Was Enis before 2000? I think that was the cutoff for the article.

          • AlbertInTucson

And it was ENIS, pronounced as in pENIS!

      • AlbertInTucson

Leave it to the Bears to get the WRONG guy named Michael Haynes.

    • BearDown100393
    • MB30SD

      No votes for rashaan?

      • AlbertInTucson

He DID Score 10 TDs his rookie year.

Of course, he also fumbled 10 times that season.

        • MB30SD

My god. You guys should have seen him in 7th grade… This rail thin smack talker. He’s a huge man now. Too bad he couldn’t hold onto anything bit a spliff

    • AlbertInTucson

      Don’t forget John Thierry.

      • MB30SD

        Bauzin?

  • BerwynBomber

Wonder if Gronk might join JJ Watt as an all-timer whose peak was cut short by serious core injuries. His third back surgery, if I read that correctly. Will he ever be the same?

Romo too, but a) he’s not an all-timer, and b) he suffered his later in his career. Still, he seems crippled compared to guys like Brady and Brees who are nearing 40 and still lighting up opponents’ D’s.

Anyway, these serious core injuries (back and abdominal) seem worse than serious knee injuries these days.

    • Weed Superman (GP)

Gronk was unstoppable in his prime. I remember when Tucker tried to cover him with Chicken Dinner at Soldier Field. It was a massacre.

But teams figured out the way to stop him was to hit him HARD. He didn’t weather punishment well. So teams starting cracking him ruthlessly.

      • BerwynBomber

Yeah, I’m no fan of the Pats, but I hate to see any player (yes, even those of our rivals) have his career cut short by injuries, especially when it is a great/HOF-level player like Gronk.

Anyway TE can be a brutal position given all its seam routes and free shot exposure. Makes a guy like Whitten’s longevity all the more impressive.

    • BearDown100393

Gronk can now party full time.

    • AlbertInTucson

This is back surgery #3 for Gronk.

Not good for anyone, let alone an NFL tight end.

  • Bernie Cohen

I believe that everything the Bears do eventually turns to $h!+.

    • Huge Bears Penis

I believe everything I eat eventually turns to SHIT.

      • Weed Superman (GP)
