DBB / Art of Men Draft Contest: Final Weekend to Register

| April 22nd, 2016

Art Logo

This weekend is the final opportunity for you to register for the DBB / Art of Men NFL Draft Picks Contest. There are ONLY two ways to register:

  • Follow Art of Men (@ArtofMen) on Twitter and send a message reading “Draft Contest”.
  • Go to Art of Men’s contact page – http://artofmen.org/contact/ – and fill out the form with the message being “Draft Contest”.

The contest will be simple. Everyone registered will submit their guess for the Bears first round pick. Those who get that player right will move on to round two…etc. The last contestant standing will receive two tickets to a Bears game this season. (Tiebreakers will be announced next week.)

If nobody gets the first round pick right, the tickets go to charity. Because, quite frankly, you don’t deserve them.

Dialog in Act 2, after Rey has been training with Luke for awhile, because she found him at the tend of TFA. Several months of training have passed, and several scenes in the new film of them together have already happened:

Rey: “Luke, I know you are my father. I can sense it.”
Luke: “No Rey. I am not your father. You are mine.”

There ya go. Mind blown. Total Buddah.

    • Scharfinator

Sounds good to me. That series was never a paradigm of excellent plot anyway.

      • MB30SD

        Bingo!

    • MB30SD

You couldn’t resist. How badly was this burning at your soul all yesterday? Hahahaha

I personally couldn’t give a smaller fuck… but some of the hardcore geeks are gonna be up in arms. Cracks me up

      Virgin birth?
      I got footage…

    • Irish Sweetness

Sidious induced the midi-chlorian birth in Shmi. So who induced this one?

So Act I Ep VIII continues …

      EXT. Ach-to island:

Luke is giving Rey a hammering.

Luke: Yeah baby, you’re not mine … it’s cool …… man, I’ve been on this island for a long time ……
..yeah … it’s cool …. I know you’re my dad, but I’m cool with it!

Rey: GIVE IT TO ME SON !!!!

      • MikeBrownhadaPosse

        Mind bleach, now.

      • Scharfinator

        HAHa!!!!

    • Captain Obvious

This is so fucking stupid that it cannot be real.

Abrams went out of his way to make like the prequels didn’t exist when we made TFA. I can’t imagine he’d let that stupidity of an immaculate birth for the “chosen one” into the story.

Not to mention, Rey is the only main character with a British accent. Boyega used an American accent, despite being British. I have to believe that Rey’s accent being distinctive has a purpose. It wouldn’t serve a purpose if she was a reincarnated Anakin (who, by the way, didn’t have a British accent).

I don’t want to get too nerdy, but ultimately, this would be beyond stupid, and I can’t imagine the writers would fuck up the sequel trilogy the way Lucas fucked up the prequels.

And let’s remember that the “leaked script” spoilers for TFA were all waaaaaaaaaay off (off the top of my head, I remember one “reliable source” saying Luke would play a major role in the film and have lots of screen time).

      • Ribeyes for Operators

Leaked script could be a fake. I think people know that. It seems stupidly detailed, but with the interwebz there is always that guy with nothing to do but create an entire fake screenplay and then leak it for no other reason than they like to stir shit up.

      • Irish Sweetness

And the opening shot of the film was a light saber floating through space ….

I remember the ‘Who is Rey’s father?’ videos on YT when they first started and laughing at the loons suggesting she was a re-incarnation. What’s more likely is that – as Lucas has said – this is Disney. They don’t want to rock the boat. They’re remaking the original trilogy, based on TFA vs Ep IV. There’s bound to be a “No, I am your father moment” in it, and it’s likely just as simple as whether it’s Kylo Ren (Darth/Luke) or Luke.

Fans do fake scripts all the time, what tips this one off is the dumb premise that Rey is Anakin Skywalker reborn. I’m more pumped for the off-shoot movies because I know they’re not going to be Disney playing it safe remaking the original trilogy for a new audience.

I find it funny that people love saying that Lucas fucked up the prequels … implying that somehow, they knew how they should have gone. George created Star Wars. It’s his. It was his. He gave us a great saga, and what happened in that saga was entirely up to him.

Let’s see what Disney do, now they’ll be releasing one a year.

  • Scharfinator

“If nobody gets the first round pick right, the tickets go to charity. Because, quite frankly, you don’t deserve them.” I laughed pretty hard at this – love it.

    Question:

Do you have to submit all the picks before the start of the draft?

Or do you do day 2 picks after round 1? Day 3 after day 2?

    • CanadaBear

Doesn’t make any difference. Is there anyone on this board who has won a DBB contest AND collected a prize?

      • MikeBrownhadaPosse

I believe I still have a guest column pass to cash in.
It will just be the words “Darron Lee” for line after line after line after line.

        • MB30SD

Fuck you! You got a Wheaties box!! Liar! Haha

          • MikeBrownhadaPosse

Naw, man, I paid for that shit outright!

          • MB30SD

            Deeeeeum

          • MikeBrownhadaPosse

It was for charity IIRC…think my brother has it now. NO idea what happened to my MJ Wheaties poster. I think it got stolen when I was moving from VA.
That gives me the sad face.

          • MB30SD

            Yes

    • Sactowns#1

You cant (or shouldn’t be able to) jail someone for exercising a constitutional right. You could certainly take their license but saying you will charge someone with a crime for not allowing the state to take their blood is a pretty severe stance.

      • Just a Lawyer

Constitutional rights are not absolute, and depend on precedent to determine where the right ends.

E.g., You have a 1st Amendment right to free speech, but you don’t have the right to yell “FIRE!” in a crowded movie theater.

So you have a 4th Amendment right against unreasonable search and seizure, but it’s up to the Court in this case to determine if a breathalyzer is an “unreasonable” search.

My feeling is that the Court will determine the breathalyzer is not unreasonable, and you have no Constitutional right to refuse it without sanction.

But what do I know? I’m just a lawyer, not a Constitutional scholar.

        • Sactowns#1

Yes but now we are talking freedom to vs freedom from. Nobody is arguing you have the freedom to drive drunk, the argument is should drivers have freedom from the govt taking your blood against your will. Just because you are taking part in a common public activity doesn’t mean the govt can decide to suddenly hold you without trial or bar political bumper stickers on your car.

        • Irish Sweetness

Also, only the government has the right to coin wealth. As everyone with half a brain cell knows, what they meant was to create wealth. The banks manipulate enough people so now this means the government literally only has the coins … and the banks get to turn the rest of us into slaves. Bush was right, the Constitution is just a piece of paper.

Driving is a privilege not a right, and if you are drunk, you are endangering lives. You should not have any rights that would conceal detection of that impairment. You don’t need to take someone’s blood to determine if they are drunk. If that’s the issue, then use breathalysers. What’s the problem doing that?

          • MikeBrownhadaPosse

            Accuracy for one.

          • Just a Lawyer

You’re missing something. Breathalyzer results give the justification for (more accurate) blood tests.

You don’t get convicted by blowing a .08 on a Breathalyzer. You get convicted by a blood test (if, though, your BAC is .12 on a Breathalyzer, that’s far enough out of the machine’s error for a conviction). Once you blow an illegal BAC on a Breathalyzer, you’ve given the state enough cause to get a blood test.

And Breathalyzers don’t “infer” anything. You mean “imply.”

And they’re pretty accurate. The biggest problem with them is that they return overly-high readings right after you’ve downed a drink.

You get a shyster, he’ll tell you that the foolproof DUI defense is, when pulled over, keep your window rolled up and pull out a bottle of hard liquor from under your seat. Put it to your mouth and (pretend to) drink. Then be completely compliant but utterly uncommunicative to the cop. Don’t do any of the sobriety tests. Take the Breathalyzer when offered, because it’s an offense to refuse. Then stall your ass off, demand a lawyer, etc., before they can take your blood.

At trial, your shyster will get the Breathalyzer dismissed because you took a swig of hard liquor in front of the cop before the test. Then he’ll get the blood test dismissed, too, because the cop can’t tell how much you drank right in front of him (and, ideally, a decent amount of time has passed between the stop and your blood test).

          • MikeBrownhadaPosse

Dude, I’m not arguing in favor of drunk driving, i thought the court case would be interesting to the regs who are lawyers. The mechanism of the breathalyzer infers from deep lung air ratios of alcohol what your BAC is. Infer, deduce, estimate, etc…are all perfectly acceptable in the context of that sentence.

          • CanadaBear

A lot of times the cops will take you to the station to make you blow. Chances are if you’re drunk your level will be even higher by the time you get to the station. No matter what, I’m glad I quit.

    • willbest

The theory behind the operation of a motor vehicle on a public road is
that you have no constitutional right to do it. Therefore you submit to
whatever rules associated with the licensing of it are. Just by refusing to take the BAC you are therefore refusing to comply with the licensing requirements and are guilty of a crime. In IL it is the suspension of your license, but you won’t risk jail time or community service. That doesn’t mean they can’t convict you of a DUI without the BAC testing, but they don’t have to.

If the officer is arresting you for DUI (or just reckless driving), then a breath test would almost certainly fall under a search incident to an arrest so no warrant would be needed, and it seems like the court plans on distinguishing it. But drawing blood is a bit beyond looking around the immediate area.

If this case were decided 20 years ago, it would probably be open and shut for the state, but it seems like the court is interested in examining a practicality standard. As in because its now practical, the state should do it. Which is an idiotic position to take with respects to a constitutional right (ie. the right only exists if its practical for the state to give them to you).

    • Irish Sweetness

Does it matter what legal minds think? That’s just fkn ridiculous. If you refuse a breathalyser you should automatically be deemed legally drunk and face the full consequences of driving a lethal weapon when blitzed. The law is an ass.

      • CanadaBear

I think that’s pretty standard in most states (refusal = guilty). I think they are arguing over taking blood. When I got popped the second time I refused any analysis and that added 2 months to my license suspension. I refused because if you are over a certain threshold the state made you go to rehab. Pretty sure I was over that threshold and had no desire to go to rehab. Never had another drink.

      • SC Dave

No more ridiculous than the presumption if guilt.

  • Doc Nitty

I’m sure I missed all the discussion’s yesterday but I wanted to weigh in on a musical legend.

Prince. I found out he died last night while driving home from a memorial service for my Aunt, ironically enough.

A true artist. Not defined by pop status or trends. True to his roots. He continued to live in Minnesota instead of the usual NY or Hollywood celebrity route. His music was not confined to a box. His style was beyond labels. He could play pop, rock, jazz, blues, or damn near whatever his mood dictated. When the height of his popularity was behind him, you didn’t see him in the tabloids or the newspapers or the reality tv gigs or anything else. He cared (it seemed) not for fame or money or celebrity. He cared about music, He cared about uniting diverging styles and people.

He was truly a musical legend. And now one more of our musical heroes is gone.

    R.I.P. Prince.

    • MB30SD

      This.

You forgot to mention Funk! Check this out!

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyOCgW11Ajw

      • Doc Nitty

Oh yeah. How could I forget that? Funk is at the core of most of what he did.

        • CanadaBear

          You’ll love the vid.

      • Doc Nitty

        That was funkin great!

Funk has to be my favorite black music. Blues a close second.

        Thanks for sharing that.

        • CanadaBear

If you get the opportunity go see George Clinton and the P-Funk All Stars. You will get all the Funk you can handle. I saw him once with up to 20 people on stage (all singers or musicians) and the other time it was 9 people on stage. Both times by the 2.5 hour mark I was done. I have no idea how long they played at either show. Gotta love that!

          • DaCoaches Mustache

P Funk played the SIU stadium in 1998 when i was a sophmore. Blew my mind.

          • CanadaBear

Both shows I was at George smoked more weed than anyone in the venue and that’s saying something. People kept passing joints to him and he’d happily take them and never return them. Either passed it around on stage or just bogarted it.

          • Cormonster

Speaking of weed and George Clinton, this is easily my favorite Funkadelic song. Eddie Hazel is the man.

My fave is Mothership Connection. Once they start chanting, I’m definitely going for the ride.

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MY6EuVaVtyY

          • CanadaBear

There is so much talent on stage at a GC concert it’s crazy. George can’t sing a lick but he sure can assemble a kick ass band.

          • Sactowns#1

Saw them play Lollapalooza (I think it was #2 with the Beastie Boys) and they put on one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. High energy, fun, danceable music. It was too bad I saw them at Shoreline and I was like 20 rows from the sage in a sea of seats. I freaking hate concert venues that are all seating.

          • CanadaBear

Esp a show like that! Both venues where I saw them there was plenty of room to dance. I’m not much of a dancer but I always like venues like that. The energy in the room is always better.

        • Sactowns#1

There’s a thing known as “black music”? I’ve heard black metal but never black music.

          • MB30SD

            Heeeere we go

          • Johnnywad

But strangely, its been six hours and nothing happened. I’m at a loss. I really thought that one had legs.

          • Doc Nitty

Tried to be PC, but didn’t know how.

    • MikeBrownhadaPosse
      • CanadaBear

Love that version. What a great song. Just where does the guitar go at the end of the song? That’s entertainment!

      • Irish Sweetness

Fkn shreds it in the second half of that or what?

      • Doc Nitty

Awesome. And if he’s shorter than Canada he’s bound to have small hands. Which gives hope to people like me on the axe.

        • CanadaBear

I was complaining to my piano teacher about my small hands and being at a disadvantage. She has a masters in music education and can play anything. She holds up her hands and says put them up against mine. She’s a tiny little woman and our hands are about the same size. Mine might be even very slightly bigger. At this point I’m beet red and want to crawl under the piano. She gives my a little smile and says, “I think you’ll be OK”.

          • Doc Nitty

I mean, don’t get me wrong, My fingers are short, but they’re girthy as hell!

          • CanadaBear

Mine aren’t!!!!!!!!!! I don’t even kid about having a big dick. Short as hell, small hands, small feet, small nose, small ears, yeah I’m a real candidate for being called tripod or the ol’ taildragger!

    • CanadaBear

I spent the better part of a day with Hubert Sumlin (Howling Wolf’s guitar player) years ago and he told a bunch of Prince stories. Apparently Prince loved his playing and invited Hubert to his place in Minneapolis. Hubert talked about his home studio and what a nice guy he was. At some point, Hubert’s getting excited and said, “He’s the shortest mother fucker I’ve ever seen. He’s shorter than you CanadaBear (except he used my real first name).” Made me laugh like crazy. I’m 5’2″ so Prince was a really tiny man. 2016 has been a bitch for musical legends.

So Prince died. I couldn’t name one of his songs in the last 25 years, but I liked the ones before that well enough. He was a very, very strange man. Like MJ. Musically gifted, long-time drug users, and as mad as a box of frogs.

Tipper Gore in her book said that Darling Nikki was the song that inspired her to go after musicians for their lyrics. It was #1 on her list of the “filthy fifteen”. Then Al “Manbearpig” Gore held hearing to “encourage” the music industry to put warning labels on albums, which just increased sales. Funny, Dee Snyder’s still got the same wife and well-adjusted kids, while Al and Tipper are separated and some of their kids are losers and drug addicts.

I think that’s viable. I also don’t believe overdosing on prescription drugs is only a celebrity fad, or even a druggie phenom.

Being given drugs by a dr instead of a pusher on skid row makes ppl believe they’re not addicts, sometimes until it’s too late.

Sadly, my step-bro was one of them.

He fucked up his back in the mines, doc gave him hardcore prescription painkillers (oxycotin I think), which mixed with his genealogy of addiction (granddad a drunk) eventually lead to other drugs and his downward spiral.

Before that, he would just kinda drink and smoke weed on weekends, but nothing serious and was still more than functional.

You would imagine with the massive amounts of money, time and resources, that the 1st rd would be more of a science, but it’s basically still a coin flip.

““According to our most recent statistics that we drew on the first round, it’s less than 60 percent of those players that are starting,” Dimitroff said. “I think it may have come in at 56 percent. So point
being it’s not an exact science, we know that. There are so many other things that are involved in it. The first step is finding out whether that player has the adept skills on the field, of course. Many other areas that we’re looking into to make sure they’re fits in the organization. [Do] they have the mental capacity, they have the character capacity, and the team element that a team is looking for? Again, you’d better have a plan for the guys who are a little bit wayward in their approach. That’s always been a big discussion point as well.”

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/04/22/the-first-round-of-the-draft-remains-a-total-crapshoot/

    • willbest

I can’t comprehend that stat. 56% of first rounders are starting… What is their definition of starting. week 1 O & D only so 704. Or is it also ST and anybody that starts say at least 6 games in a season which puts it over 1000 people that would qualify as starting.

And what is your time frame. The last 5, 10, 15 drafts? so all 160, 320 480 player pool? Does that include everybody, or just people still playing in the NFL?

And how does that compare to 2nd through 7th rounders, and UFAs. If say only 30% of second rounders are starters then 56% would imply your odds of success almost double by being drafted in the first round.

      • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Abbacadabra!(ButchDeadLift)

I would imagine his definition of “starting’ does not include special teamer. I don’t know of any 1st rounder that ever was relegated to that.

Shea should’ve, but even he still managed to “start” though he shouldn’t have

(which begs another question. How many of those 1st rounders are starting but only because where they were drafted, like Shea. That might actually decrease the 56%).

Not sure about his time frame either, but I would guess within the past 10 years.

Would be interesting to see it stacked against other rounds.

But really, this to me kinda equates to.

Wentz-Goff. Who’s gonna be good? Coin flip.
Myles Jack – Darron Lee – coin flip
        Tunsil-Stanly -flip a coin
Ramsey- Hargreaves – flip a coin

        Etc

Seems unimaginable that so many would flop, but history informs us otherwise.

But I guess there’s a reason the Draft is in April.

        Hope springs eternal…

        • MB30SD

The… data is put there. See what I did there?

No seriously, data, can you get the data and do an article on this using the real #s. It would be super interesting

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Abbacadabra!(ButchDeadLift)

I read it in PFT, which linked
But GM Dimitroff didn’t exactly publish his report.
Not sure if it’s out there, or if they’re not gonna share cuz they’re scared it would tip other teams off as to Falcon’s drafting.

But I believe his stats. 56% sounds about right, and like I said, how many of those 1st rounders get to start for like 3yrs automatically even though they suck (Shea)?

    • Irish Sweetness

I think you can take the coin flip aspect out of it with having character high on the list. Some teams/G.M.s just don’t appear to care. Somebody will draft Noah Spence in the first round, and at some point soon, he’ll be suspended.

      • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Abbacadabra!(ButchDeadLift)

        c’mon, man!
Doesn’t matter. There’s plenty of “nonstop motor, high football IQ, tough, flawless character, right pedigree” BUSTS.

Would it surprise anyone if Conklin flames out?

history says, Stanley, Conklin or even Tunsil is gonna bust, and none of them have red flags in the character dept.

    Oh oh.

The Chicago Sun-Times’ Adam Jahns reports Ohio State RB Ezekiel Elliott is “squarely” on the Bears’ radar at No. 11 overall.

The Bears flirted with restricted free agent C.J. Anderson before he ultimately signed an offer sheet with the Dolphins that was matched by Denver. Chicago clearly has interest in adding talent to itsbackfield, and Elliott visited Halas Hall earlier this week and has said he’d love to play for the Bears. RBs coach Stan Drayton recruited Elliott to Ohio State and coached him there before joining the Bears’ staff last season. Elliott figures to be a top-15 pick next week. – roto

    • Irish Sweetness

Unless the Browns draft him, he’s there at 11. He looks like Kanye doesn’t he?

I think I’d prefer Henry as a complementary back to what we have. But we don’t lsoe if we take him. Ward is there in 2. It’s all good.

Defense or the best OL. That’s it damn it… not a fucking 7th running back.

This better be a fucking smoke screen

          • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

The Broncos won the fucking superbowl with a crippled liability at QB because they had a game changing defense.
We had the worst defense in the history of the Bears for the last 3 years or at least 13/14. Our LT is Charles Leno Jr.
IF we don’t pick defense my brain is going to explode. If you’re going to pick a fucking RB at 11 you might as well just pick a WR. We already have 6 running backs.

          • Irish Sweetness

I’m confused. We have 9 picks, right? Why does the first one have to be on defense? If Elliott’s there at 11, and there’s a HUGE drop-off to the next guy who’s on D ..how do you pass him up. All I ever hear on this board in relation to drafts is BPA. Elliott is #3 on Gil Brandt’s board, and he’s been through this 56 times.

          • willbest

Because the odds of you finding a playmaker drop the further down the draft you are selecting. You don’t want 4 DL guys that are competent. You want 1 guy that is going to get doubled every single play, and if he is not, he makes the other team pay for that affront.

          • Ribeyes for Operators

And Ashawn Robinson and Sheldon Rankins are not that guy.

Neither of them are Aaron Donald. Neither will demand that double.

We may take Elliot, it may be a smoke screen. But people call HIM special.

            Here’s some Elliot knob slob:

            https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2016/03/08/draftezekiel-elliott-is-the-most-complete-rb-prospect-since-adrian-peterson/

It’s him or Stanley for the Bears. I cannot fathom a situation where those guys are available and Pace decides on a lanky weak side OLB who is a crap shoot against NFL talent.

          • CanadaBear

For some reason Floyd really seems like a risky pick. Too much like CD. Shudder!

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Abbacadabra!(ButchDeadLift)

            Dion Jordon looked fast too.

          • Irish Sweetness

I was all in on the Henry train til I watched the ESPN doc on Elliott. His parents are solid. He’s solid. I’m not even talking football, just as a person, one so young. Any DE or DT we take at 11 is just another dude. With Elliott you may be getting a special back. People are saying why did we let Matty go? Because this guy can do the things Matty couldn’t. Look at that pass pro, look at that burst and bang between the tackles, minus all the mileage and knee surgeries. It really is a no-brainer if he’s there at 11, but unfortunately Dallas or Cleveland will nab him, if they have any sense.

          • willbest

The difference being the value of D-line is such greater importance that you just need them to be top 50 to have been successful in your draft where at RB you need them to be top 5.

Is Elliot special? Maybe, but he has to be or he is a bust. And what has a special RB gotten Minnesota all these years? there is only so much the RB can do for you.

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Abbacadabra!(ButchDeadLift)

            That’s the thing too.

            Foxy prefers production over projects.

            He’s old school conservative.

            Add to the mix.

He likes a stable of backs
            He already tried getting CJ
He wants a run oriented attack

If he sees Zeke and Robinson, Rankins or Loyd, he may tell pace to go the safe route.

But we really don’t know much on Pace. He may philosophically be opposed to drafting RB in the 1st.

          • Irish Sweetness

Who is that guy at 11 ? I just don’t see him, including Buckner BTW. I’d rather see us get another OLB than a DE that’s not a game-changer.

          • willbest

Well in truth we won’t know until we watch the next franchise pro-bowler go 10th will we.

          • Irish Sweetness

But your playmaker is right there looking at you. People forget about injuries. How do we look if Langford goes down? Then we’ve got a roster of midgets.

I trust Pace to find the under-the-radar defenders outside the first round. The first round is for blue-chippers, and that’s Elliott. I haven’t heard anyone in the media say anything else. He’s maybe the surest bet in the draft.

          • MB30SD

One of the other 15 rbs we have takes his balls.

Smh at you dude. Come on now.

          • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

Irish, look at the historical likelihood that late rounders ever make an impact. The probability drops incredibly after the 1st 2 rounds. I don’t care if we had 15 picks. I’d rather have 3 picks in the first 2 rounds because the odds of adding true talent to your roster that will stick in the league is much higher.

      • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Abbacadabra!(ButchDeadLift)

The scary part about this report is the connections.

NFL fucking loves the Kevin Bacon connections. That’s a major reason why Fox wanted CJ Anderson over Forte.

Sometimes it’s good (Trevathan!), often it’s bad (Archuleta…)

Getting Zeke at #11 would be a HUGE fucking mistake.

We let Forte walk for relatively cheap and as of now, Zeke can’t hold his jock strap.
Then add in Langford, Jizz and Carey, and the plethora of later rd RBs who became studs, plus the $$$ allocated to a #11 back, not just the first contract, but 2nd (by the 3rd their old and broken down).

Just doesn’t make sense on any level.

Hopefully this is a ploy to make the Fins jump the Bears and get Zeke, dropping another D guy on our lap

        • CanadaBear

If Zeke turns out to be awesome I’m OK with it. That’s a pretty high bar. Otherwise, I think there is better value/bpa/top need type of guy out there. I think Zeke will be gone before the Bears pick. I was OK with the Bears letting Forte walk but was shocked by the contract he signed with the Jets. He was talking home town discount so maybe it would have been for even less than the Jets paid. I’m not as sold on Langford as most around here so Zeke landing here won’t make me cry or anything.

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Abbacadabra!(ButchDeadLift)

I think that’s where many fans disagree.

I like the potential of Langford.
I don’t think Zeke is a generational back (I think he’s like Ray Rice, not AP).

And to me, you don’t draft a HB near #10 unless he just looks like the next AP (like Gurley. If Gurley was in this draft, I wouldn’t mind him at #11).

Mainly, we must see if Langford indeed is the real deal.

What happens if Langford rushes for 1,500 this year and makes All-pro?

I think it would be prudent to see what we have first.

There’ll be a 1st rd RB available next year. Always is.

          • CanadaBear

I’m not banging the drum for him for sure. Just saying I won’t be upset. I trust POX to pick the right guy until proven differently.

        • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

it’s gotta be a smokescreen to make another team jump up to get him. Shit gets real if yet another D guy falls to 11.

    • willbest

This seems unlikely. Anything short of a homerun at RB in the top 15 would be considered a complete failure of a pick. Especially with what looks like it could be 3 QBs going in the top 10. There is just going to be too much defensive talent available. Hell Elliott might not even make starting RB next years if Langford had a disciplined off-season.

      • MB30SD

Exactly. This will be an abject failure of a pick in my mind.

        • Irish Sweetness

If he’s the man for 6-8 years it’s a failed pick?

I’m curious as to why nobody wants to solve our short yardage problems.
TBH I’d rather have Henry than Elliott, but he won’t be around in 2.

          • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

we solved them last year Irish with Langford, Carey and Urine playing fullback. Then we signed another fullback this year.

Whenever you call something the “worst it’s ever been” you have to fucking fix it and do it immediately. The Bears defense was the “worst it’s ever been” in the last few years and it needs to be fixed. Porter and Fuller at corner is bullshit. Rolle and Amos at Safety is bullshit. Ferguson, Sutton, practice squad heroes and dudes with numbers in the 70’s on the D line are BULLSHIT.

Draft playmakers on D because that is the reason you embarassed yourselves in 2013/2014/2015. Fix the D, win more ballgames. it’s that simple.

          • CanadaBear

I think Ferguson is a decent player. Sutton not so much. Amos was good for a 5th rounder but is he the answer? I have no idea. Rolle is probably done. Porter played well last year. Not gonna bitch about him. Almost every player Pox have brought in was better than the stiff on the roster. If that continues life will be sweet going forward.

          • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

agreed that Pace upgraded. Porter had a few decent games. I just don’t get the tolerance for average safety play. I know the D line pressure has something to do with it but at some point the safety has to make a play, take away something from the O, fuck, anything.

          • MB30SD

            This. So much this

          • MB30SD

Having a good running back won’t mean shit if our d n is still getting fucking smoked.

Riddle me this my irish brouge…. what unit won the Denver Broncos a super bowl last year?

Hint: it wasn’t their offense of special teams

    • Captain Obvious

      Smoke screen.

I just can’t see the Bears letting Forte walk for NY, where he got a contract the Bears could have easily afforded, and then turning around and drafting a guy in the first round who might be as good as Forte. Sure, Elliot might be “the guy” for another 6-8 years, but so might a guy that you draft in the 2nd round next year.

I like Elliot. I think he’s the real deal. But I think Langford is potentially damned good, and I don’t think it’s worth the #11 pick to replace a guy you could’ve re-signed.

In other words, picking Elliot is admitting that you fucked up letting Forte walk, and paying a very high premium to admit that.

      • Johnnywad

Forte is 30. If you let him walk, and draft a guy who might be as good as Forte has been, but a rookie, that’s brilliant. That’s not admitting you fucked up. That’s executing a plan.

That said, no thanks to RBs in the first.

        • Captain Obvious

“If you let him walk, and draft a guy who MIGHT be as good as Forte has been”

          Emphasis mine.

They let Forte walk thinking Langford would be good enough to let Forte walk. Yes, Forte’s production at 30 is not what it was at 27, but if you don’t think Langford can be better than 30 year-old Forte, why do you take the risk of letting Forte walk and HOPING you can get Elliot, and then HOPING he’d be as good as Forte?

Instead, you could’ve kept Forte at a reasonable price, kept Langford as your Forte-to-be, and used the 11 pick on shoring up your abysmal defense.

No, Forte was allowed to go because brass thinks Langford is better than Forte will be. And that means at least pretty close to what Elliot MIGHT be. And there’s no point spending the 11 pick on a guy who MIGHT be a little better than who you already have on the roster.

          • Johnnywad

Yeah, it’s a crap shoot. For my part, I’d roll with Langford and draft D. But if Pace thinks Elliott replaces Forte on a rookie deal at 23 years old, it’s definitely not a mistake. I wouldn’t have re-signed Forte either. As much as I loved him, (second favorite modern Bear behind Peanut) at 30, odds are against Forte getting the yards we’re accustomed to.
I think we agree the move is to draft D. I just don’t think Pace fucked up letting Forte walk if indeed he thinks Elliott is a viable replacement. For all we know, Langford is just a guy.

          • SC Dave

Gotta agree with that last sentence, and that’s why I didn’t like us not signing Matt. But I’ve definitely moved on from that – there is no going back.

          • Huge Bear’s Penis

he’s gone, who cares, let it go. I was hoping people would stop crying about him a couple weeks after he wasn’t resigned, unfortunately we are most likely going to here the whining all season.

  • Ribeyes for Operators

So the knock/FUD on WJ3 now is that he’s stupid.

4.37 40, excellent hip swing grade, excellent height on his jump – but he’s stupid and bites on the double move, so down the draft he goes. That kid is so much better than Fuller it’s not even funny.

We’re going to test the shit out of Jeff’s “Corners don’t matter” theory this season with Fuller and Porter back there, And – well – you know where I fall on that. I also want to go on the record right now with this being Kyle Fuller’s full bust year. He hasn’t got it.

    • Irish Sweetness

That’s the knock on Lawson. He was asked who the 4th president of the U.S. was, and said it was a “stupid question”. No Shaq, a stupid question is asking if one of a duck’s legs is both the same.

Serious question, what corner has never bitten on a move?

When teams throw at WJAX III the PR drops to 31.0 – at that point, any talk of intelligence is moot.

Biggsy mocks Shaq Lawson to us, pushing Floyd way down the line. Lacks Floyds height and speed, and wasn’t really that much of an impact game changer for Clemson.

But HEY – he had a great combine. Sigh.

Biggsy then headed to Steak and Shake, where he felt the restaurant’s name implied the signature dish. So he ordered a 20oz Angus filet fried on a skillet with dubliner cheese melted into it, then chopped & dropped into a 48 oz big gulp cup with extra malt and two scoops of rocky road. He calls it the “wisconsin cowpile”.

    • willbest

You sticking Floyd opposite of Nanny or behind him while we move through Houston and Young?

        McPhee – Travathan – Freeman – Floyd

Pre snap McPhee can stunt up and in – 2nd down you can roll Houston in and spell Floyd and have McPhee move to the other side. Painkillers are fucking scary man.

  • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

I think alot of people get skittish when they think of drafting a RB so high. Ced Ben looked like a fucking machine coming out of college and it just didn’t work out. T Rich fucking ruined it for running backs almost. Late rounders and undrafted guys making an impact.

Was it Elliot’s line or him or both? If it was both he’s not worth an 11th pick. It certainly wasn’t just him. Others have made a solid point that there is no consensus no brainer pick on the DL or DE position with even the top guys debated as JAG’s.

I wish we would have gotten a vet safety and then picked up a top DT free agent. Then we could have looked at DB and OL for this draft. A top OL makes a good running back into HOF Terrell Davis.

    • Ribeyes for Operators

If Bears go Elliot you shouldnt get as pissed as you say you will be. He’s a complete back. Between the tackles for YPC, a true 3rd and 2 back. He catches out of the backfield, maybe not as well as Forte, but Forte was 30 and the GM guidebook says don’t do it. You go Langford and Elliot and the Bears go OL on the wire or a late sign to shore up and the offense has a lot of weapons. Kevin White AND Elliott? That will put fans in the seats.

      • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

I just can’t reconcile that move with what i’ve seen on D the last few years. We’re just asking to be disappointed again if we don’t keep addressing D.

Shit, imagine how ballsy it would have been to pick up a vet safety, draft a top corner or the best Safety in the draft and then DL in the 2nd round. Addressing 3 needs instead of using that draft pick on a RB luxury while making the areas of need wait in line…

        • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

There are so many ways to improve the roster. If the Bears select Zeke they will most likely be acquiring a really solid running back and that is not a bad thing but it IS bad when true needs and areas of GREAT concern go unaddressed or not addressed enough.

          • Irish Sweetness

The ONLY area of large concern is DE. If Buckner’s not there, you’ve got nowhere near a BPA at DE. 9 picks.

          • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

Then take best DT or best DB. I want the Jets D line. We passed over Wilkerson once. Don’t do it again.

        • MB30SD

So this. I’ll be fucking pissed.

Defense in the first 3 motherfuckers

        • Irish Sweetness

Again, we have 9 picks. The first pick happens to be on O, you’ve got 8 left.

  • Cutty of Mt. Olivet Nazarene

i’m watching Elliot tear it up….against Western Michigan, Indiana and Maryland who will have exactly 0 guys playing pro football. The OSU offensive line fucking manhandled the opposition. I’m sure he’s a great running back. I was watching OG’s and OT’s pushing dudes 4yds back, trap blocking and looking like the Cowboys line of the 90’s. Too risky at 11.

Not a big fan of Mayock, but I thought I’d share this quote about Conk:

    http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/2016/04/detroit_lions_should_sprint_to.html

“The glowing reviews continue to pour in for Jack Conklin in the days leading up to the NFL draft and one pundit says the Detroit Lions shouldn’t hesitate if they get a crack at the former Michigan State offensive tackle.

“If Conklin was there (for Detroit at pick No. 16), I’d sprint to the podium,” NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock said during a conference call on Friday.

Mayock didn’t seem to believe Conklin would slide that far, highlighting the New York Giants at No. 10 and Tennessee Titans at No. 15 as two likely landing spots. Mayock went as far as to compare Conklin to a recent first-round selection who has been named to three consecutive Pro Bowls.

‘He was a walk-on at Michigan State, as you know, got a little edge to his game,’ Mayock said. ‘I’ll tell you who he reminds me of from a body type and demeanor, he reminds me of Kyle Long, and that’s a compliment. Now I don’t think he’s got Kyle’s feet, but very few people do.'”

    Kyle Long comparison? Me likery.

    • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd Abbacadabra!(ButchDeadLift)

I LOVE Conk. Another NFCN scout called him as tough as old beef jerky.

He’s a mauler, a mean SOB who played LT.

I think he’ll be a perennial PB RT, and if u put him next to Long, watch out.

I also believe he might even be able to play LT in a pinch. Heck, might even be an upgrade over Leno. Dunno tho. LTs as of late seem like a crap shoot, but I do trust that Conk will maximize whatever potential he has while adding nastiness to our Oline.

Teams Have Hard-Party Drug Concerns with Joey Bosa, Ezekiel Elliott

    Updated March 15, 2016

    By Charlie Campbell – @draftcampbell

Eastern Kentucky edge rusher Noah Spence was a standout pass-rusher at
Ohio State before positive tests for the party drug ecstasy led to him
being kicked out of the program. At the Senior Bowl, teams interviewed
Spence about his issues at Ohio State, and while he wouldn’t name names,
he said that he wasn’t the only Buckeye player who was using ecstasy
while partying. In speaking with sources at multiple teams, two of the
players that teams suspect for that type of partying are defensive end
Joey Bosa and running back Ezekiel Elliott.

To be clear, neither player had a positive drug test for ecstasy or
molly (MDMA). However, Bosa was suspended for the opening game of the
2015 season. Ohio State didn’t clarify the exact offense for the
suspension, but Bosa told teams during the NFL Combine interviews that
he was suspended because he refused to take a drug test. That counted as
a positive and thus he was automatically slapped with the suspension.

Bosa told teams that he wouldn’t take the test because he was going to
test positive for adderall. He is said to have ADHD or ADD, so teams
wouldn’t have held that positive test for adderall against him and they
feel he should have just gotten a prescription for the medication.
Teams believe that Bosa knew he was going to test positive for worse
drugs and that is why he refused to take the test. Bosa wouldn’t admit
to using ecstasy or molly, but he did admit that he likes to attend
raves. He claimed that he likes going to raves for the “music,” which
teams found to be very questionable. Molly and ecstasy are common drugs
    used at raves.

At Ohio State, Bosa was a roommate with Ezekiel Elliott. Apparently,
their shared place was a party destination, and Bosa told teams that he
had to move out and get his own place to get away from all the parties
that Elliott had going on. Sources say they suspect that Elliott was
also using molly and ecstasy while parting. A number of Elliott’s
teammates in the Combine interviews told teams that Elliott was a
partier, and a unique individual. They said they hung out with him some,
but he rubbed some the wrong way. Sources from multiple teams said that
Elliott didn’t interview well at the Combine, while Bosa had mixed
feedback. The skepticism of why he goes to raves and the refusal of the
    drug test bothered some evaluators.

Lastly, teams said they don’t expect these concerns to have an impact on
the draft stock of either player. They firmly expect Bosa to go in the
top 10 and Elliott to be selected in the top 20. Sources don’t believe
either is a candidate to slide. Teams in the 20s expect Elliott to be
long gone, while sources with the Titans have said that Bosa is still in
the running for the No. 1 overall pick to Tennessee, but Florida State
defensive back Jalen Ramsey is the current leader with the Titans (see
    below).

While teams suspect Bosa and Elliott of using those drugs, they don’t
have view them as risks like Randy Gregory last year. Teams don’t think
that Bosa and Elliott are serious candidates to be landing suspensions
and testing positive in the NFL. Thus, both should be high draft picks
    in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Are you best buds with Elliott? does he call you every night before bedtime so you guys catch up on what went on that day? if not there is no way you know what kind of drugs he does and does not do. As far as Spence goes, he did not name names, there are 100+ players on College teams, not all dress, and only 85 each year have a scholarship. He could have been referring to any number of them even walk ons.

        • Irish Sweetness

It’s sad to heaar Elliott’s team-mates calling him a partier at combine interviews (if that’s true). Take care of your own business.

Microfracture surgery…….This process is delicate and requires optimum conditions to be routinely successful. Therefore certain protocols will need to be followed after surgery to protect this area as well as contour the newly forming cartilage.
So, I’m guessing that performing the equaivalent of the 20 to 40 yd dash, 3 cone drill, vertical jump test, baseline to baseline drill, accelerating to a dead sprint after backpedaling on an angle and coming to an abrupt stop……all within the same play, about 75 times a game would not be one of these protocols.

I know that is the way I would respond to $22 million.

If I’m the GM, I say, enjoy your time off. Learn how to knit.

Cruz and Kasich are joining forces to deny Trump 1237. Has that ever happened in Presidential politics, where two candidates pull out of states telling their supporters to vote for the other guy in order to deny the front runner the majority and force a floor fight? I know politics is dirty as hell, but this seems like a new circle has been unlocked.

Even a corporate stooge and a religious loon can see how dangerous Drumpf is.

      • MikeBrownhadaPosse

I think you’re overestimating the morale rectitude of their motives, Sac.
Both guys want to be President. EOS.

Hilary be like, “please god let Trump run as an independent”

          • willbest

Nah, that is too expensive. Trump doesn’t have that kind of scratch.

          • MikeBrownhadaPosse

Too short on the most precious commodity. Time.

I’m somewhat surprised none of the candidates has dropped trousers yet.

          • MB30SD

that would be the first thing I’d do.

Oh, I’m sure she has a little Arya Stark routine she goes through at night before bed. “Donald Trump, Ser Ilyn Payne…oops, John Kasich, The Ted Cruz…”

IIRC, it’s too late for it to be a serious effort. It is a major PITA to get your name on the ballot as an independent, and his ground game is the weakest of the major candidates by all accounts. I think it’s Cleveland or bust.

      • willbest

Drumpf? Are people still doing that. I thought it was wrong not to call people by what they wanted to have themselves called.

Anyway, Trump is at worst a status quo president that will throw a couple bones to the people that got him there. And I would expect him to steal less money from the public treasury than the Clintons.

in your opinion, which existing ally relationships would be tarnish most:
          Germany
          Great Britain
          France
          Canada
          South Korea
in your opinion, which potential ally relationships would he squish the life out of first:
          Mexico
every single eastern European nation formerly held by the Soviet Union
          Japan

          • willbest

I don’t know why any of those relationships would be tarnished by Trump specifically.

If Trump were elected, I would presume the Eastern European countries have the most to worry about, because I doubt stopping Putin is a high priority for him. That being said, the current oil prices and the forthcoming recession are not likely to make things particularly easy for Putin. I suspect Russia’s current draw down in Syria is financially related.

The state of China’s pacific rim games are always interesting, I can’t speculate. Obama doesn’t seem all that interested in doing anything about it, and I suspect everybody but Cruz would ignore it unless China started killing people.

Yes, actually. Happened to Carter (unsuccesfully) in 1976.
