Almost finished Walking Dead season 6 on netflix. Every time I get around to binge watching that show I have to resist the urge to buy a couple more guns and double my ammo cache

    “Prediction: Bears 23, Lions 20”

1 FG and a missed PAT for Barf?

    • SC Dave

One made extra point, one missed. 2 point conversion and safety

      • AlbertInTucson

        I like it.

    • Irish Sweetness

How do we get the 23, Al?

      • AlbertInTucson

Mine would have been 3 TDs with, a FG and the 1 missed PAT but SC’s is a better equation.

Josh Gordon headed to rehab. Some people are just allergic to $12+ million annual salaries.

    • Ugh. Well, at least he won’t waste a spot on my FF bench anymore.

Edit. Wonder if Pryor emerging had anything to do with Browns telling Gordon to chill.

    • BearDown100393

Better rehab than potentially dead. He’s 25. Still some time left.

  • Isn’t throwing the ball out of bounds preferable to getting sacked, or strip sacked, or rushing a throw ending up in an INT?

    Am I missing something?

He does seem to have limited field vision, but it’s not as if Cutty has PB awareness. I remember one year in Madden when they had like a yellow tint to let you “see” what diff QBs see.

    Peyton’s whole screen was yellow.

Cutty’s was like a laser pointer.

The Bears have the PERFECT excuse to sit Cutty right now, try to go up the draft to snatch a top Qb, while being able to see if Hoyer can do his best McCown impression.

Naturally, Bears will find some way to fuck up this scenario.

    • willbest

Well you have to be out of the pocket and get it passed the line of scrimmage or throw it over the head of the receiver on near the sidelines.

Cutler was held out of practice today FWIW. I honestly don’t care if he plays this week but if we are to win 6 or less games this year, they better be against division foes.

    • BearDown100393

Wild Theory – Cutler is so paranoid about fumbling/being stripped of the football, he claws on it and takes the sack instead of throwing it away. IMHO it is a mental glitch akin to “the yips”

    • Irish Sweetness

Just to clarify, when we were talking about Hoyer …. throwing the ball out of bounds when you’re actually trying to hit a wide-open Cam Meredith down the sideline is not ball-protection – it’s a wildly inaccurate throw, so bad that it’s laughable.

      • SC Dave

Perhaps laughable, but on missing the radius of the receiver to the out of bounds side, there is no difference between one foot and ten yards.

      • Name the last time cutty hit a go route in stride. I’ll wait

  • BearDown100393

Besides Cutler, the Bears had five additional players miss practice on
Thursday — NT Eddie Goldman, RB Jeremy Langford, RB Ka’Deem Carey, ILB
Danny Trevathan and CB Jacoby Glenn (personal reasons). Also, WR Alshon
Jeffery was limited with knee and hamstring issues. – Dickerson

  • Joecashflow

Bears without Cutler. Conspiracy theory. I’m still on the ledge. Bear down Bears.

  • SC Dave

    Jeff… lol.

You (and half or more of this blog) were all over Langford’s dick for months. To the point that you were okay with Forte leaving because of him.

    Now it’s Howard.

    • I think he flashed enough to give him a chance, but I always wanted another HB just in case because can never predict durability.

As it turns out, he was both ineffective and fragile.

Langford looked more sluggish this season than last. I think it might be because he bulked up (ironically, in order to be more of a workhorse).

Either way, if Howard turns out to be the man, then the decision to let Forte walk isn’t that big.

If not, doesn’t matter. Keep throwing 4rth/5th rounders at HB, eventually one of them will stick.

(That being said, I’m certain Birdcage has a lot to do with shitty run game).

      • SC Dave

It will just irritate me, because Matt was my favorite Bear. So while I realize I have a biased view, Matt would have almost certainly been their best back this year. And maybe next year too.

That being said, I was probably the second guy on the Howard bandwagon here after Irish.

        • Behind that Birdcage line, don’t think Forte has the year he’s having on the Jets.

I think we’re #31 in run attempts, next to dead last.

On the Jets Forte is projected to carry it 400times! (that’s not gonna happen, of course, but that’s extrapolated from first 3 games). That Jets D keeps games close for them so they can use Matty.

Over here, He’d get like 5 touches per game splitting with Langford/Howard, and I’m not even exaggerating.

          • SC Dave

Perhaps the Bears coaches ARE that bad. Forte 10-16 touches, and the rest however you want to split it. For were *I* to split it, pretty much all the rest would be Howard.

Now of those 10-16 from Forte, I’m thinking 4-8 would be on receptions.

Right now, the Jets are going to kill him. 30 carries is 10 too many.

        • Malice Halice

I had to spend way more money on Da Sweetness jersey cuz NOBODY currently is worth my 150 bucks so I ended up spending more on a reliable player. Knowing Forte wouldn’t be here this year. Fuck Pace for letting him go.

          • SC Dave

Well, I had to retire my jersey this year too. Mine was #9, and I’m NOT talking MacMahon.

          • Long should be good and in for the *long haul.

If Howard proves he’s nails this season, maybe him next year (unless we draft a #1 overall QB)

        • MB30SD

You do nit have any biased views of our old players…. stop that! Hahaha Dave, killing me tonight baby

    • Malice Halice

I’m new here. But I wasn’t down for Langford. You can’t invest on guys who do good being a backup. Nobody had tape on Langford so obviously he gone take advantage. Same goes for Cap when smith went down. Look at him now. Griffith after his rookie season. Don’t promote em just cuz they did good when the opp DC had no tape on em. Just don’t make sense (unless yall got good examples. )
Todd Gurley for fuckin sakes. That dude is fuckin HUFF

      • BerwynBomber

Langford was a fourth round pick. Let’s not act like there is huge Shea/Carimi-like bust potential with him, because there is not. He was not that costly.

    • MB30SD

smh. langford wasn’t that bad man. I don’t get what you see when you watch. Our oline is a patchwork made up of doooogshiiiit. The kid was breaking some when he had a tiny hole, which wasn’t often. I’ve only watched one full game and about half of the other two.

You’re so willing to jock other dude’s because your 2006 specials get old and let go. smh man.

      • SC Dave

So, do you think that Forte had a better line than now the eight years he played for the Beloved?

I sure as fuck don’t. The line was at best 35% percentile the entire time. Yet Matt gained more yards from scrimmage than ANYONE in the league.

        • MB30SD

I think they got him in space more because he’s that type of back. I think he was abject dogshit in redzone and goal line and in places where we needed 2-4 yards and they just ran him up the middle.

I saw langford and howard break some runs off in the games I did watch. They seem MUCH stronger inside with normal runs. I think forte’s strengths were played to, but we don’t have forte any more man… our OC is also a fucking buffoon.

At least martz and trestman were creative.

here’s my net-net, stop crying over spilled milk man. we have what we have and for the situation, to me, both those guys seem good when they get a gap. Are they going to be walter… um, no. Will they be fine when used right, and our oline gets a bit more stout… 100%. those two are the least of our worries maings.

          • SC Dave

What? Langford was LAST in the NFL in yards after contact in 2015. DEAD LAST.

          • Malice Halice

THANK YOU! Knowing those stats we still released Forte. Not trade but let him go to FA.

          • willbest

How you trade a player who had an expired contract?

          • Malice Halice

            Idk… maybe resign him….

          • MB30SD

what have you done for me lately. Have you looked how he was doing before he went down this year? and that was the only stat you had for him?

          • SC Dave

It is PFF, but there are numbers in here. Lots of them, and Langford’s are pretty much uniformly awful.

            https://www.profootballfocus.com/why-youre-way-too-high-on-jeremy-langford/

          • MB30SD

You mean like every single other state this entire organization has put up in the last two years (save my boy jerell)?

Oh, right, Langford’s the problem, forgot. Got it. Right.

            Daaaaave.

        • MB30SD

I’m fine with Howard being the guy, but they look the same to me so far

      • Malice Halice

Mane u trippin. Langford was decent. Not drop our best player worthy at all. Like a said last week, u replace a guy like Forte with a guy who IMMEDIATELY makes a difference.

        • MB30SD

          smh. it was time dude.

peanut, briggsy, lach, mike brown, tommy, olin… none of them are coming back. Be like fucking Frozen and let. it. goooooooooo.

          • Malice Halice

            Haha Touché

          • MB30SD

I’d love to have them back too maings, but that shit ain’t happenin’

            I’m already in love again:

Freeman, travathan, amos, long, some of the young DBs showing promise. There’s plenty to build on. I’m not as down as some of the guys. Yeah, I’m sick of losing, but I’m willing to see how things play out.

          • SC Dave

Trevathan? Really? A game and a half?

Freeman and Amos I get, but I’ll wait for Danny to start earning his salary.

          • MB30SD

Sorry, forgot hes a rookie and there’s no tape on him before he came to us.

            : /

    • SC Dave

Alright, ya’ll, I should have been more careful with that last sentence. If we have anybody on the roster that will make me be okay with letting Forte go, it’s definitely Howard. He may end up every bit as good as Matt.

But the rest of those guys won’t.

    • Huge Bears Penis

      here you go: https://www.facebook.com/mattforte22/
maybe you guys can become facebook friends, maybe eventually snap chat buddies. then you can gush to him about how much you miss him, and quit crying about it on here.

      • MB30SD

        that sounds absolutely dreeeeaaaamy!

  • SC Dave

I do love the part about how much easier it is to cover a winner. Props to Birkett for soldiering through the Lions for all those years.

    • Sadly, Bears reporters are finding out they have to be more creative with losers.

Like trying to salvage bad meat.

I expect a lot more personal stories going forward. Tap Braverman a few more times or something.

  • Joecashflow

Freeman #2 in tackles in the league with 34.

    • SC Dave

Freeman is our best player. At least on defense.

      • Joecashflow

        And leadership.

  • Wow. We might see the Bengals finally implode on national tv.

    • willbest

one play doesn’t make a implosion.

      • It’s been happening all season though, I think continuing from last year when they imploded in the playoffs.

Then again, Fins suck, so we’ll see.

  • MB30SD

dave, here’s langford’s season thus far

    Regular Season
    Carries: 31
    Yards: 116
    Avg: 3.7
    TDs: 2
    Rec: 5

so that’s basically a game’s carries for forte on the jets. I’ll take that per game from langy. ; )

    • I’m pretty sure that’s the same run avg as Forte.

Forte is just getting a lot more touches, catches and TD looks.

      • MB30SD

        no way dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Matt forte is the second coming of walter, and langford it total dogshit’s dogshit! We got so fucked by keeping him over matt!!!! hahahahaha we suck! hahaha

        sigh.

        • MB30SD

          I just checked. 3.9!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

See!!! told you how much better he is!!!!! .02 yards more avg man!!! Proof’s in the puddin!

          • SC Dave

            That would be .2

          • MB30SD

i was told thered be no math

          • SC Dave

It might happen if you cite numbers, dude.

          • MB30SD

            Meh

          • MB30SD

You are good at the maths dave!

          • CanadaBear

He’s averaging 111 yds from scrimmage/game and 1 rushing TD/game. Tell me more about Langford.

          • MB30SD

again, if he was given the opty to have 30 tries a game, with a commensurate line, it would indeed be interesting no?

          • CanadaBear

If you’re talking about Langford, I’m guessing he would be dinged up long before he got to 30 touches. We just have to agree to disagree.

          • Huge Bears Penis

What you talkin about C-Bear? Langford is a future HOFer!

          • CanadaBear

He’d better get more productive real soon!

If the Beloved didn’t stink on ice, most of us wouldn’t be bitching about some questionable decisions by POX. Part of me thinks Pace has done a good job in the draft (other than the 1st rd) and FA and then I see the Bears just sucking pond water. I’m guessing I’m over valuing his picks/FA’s or else Fox and staff are Nessmanesque (and that’s on Pace, too).

        • Joecashflow

I am hoping that Matt sucks next year, except that I love Matt. The theory is get rid of vet one year to early instead of one year too late. We know now that this ain’t our playoff season, probably.

          • MB30SD

I don’t care about Matt, he’s a jet. Best of luck, but not my problem/hard on anymore

    • SC Dave

So who’s still on the field?

      • MB30SD

I don’t know, we’ll see next week and rhe following etc…

This was a silly point to make

  • willbest

    Lady Gaga? Really. smh

    • CanadaBear

She at least has had some hits in this millenium. She’s a great entertainer that’s weird as hell. She does her own playing and singing in concert. Not that I buy her music buy I respect her as an artist.

  • Ugh. That’s why Tannenhill is a birdbrain.

You see the jump offisides, chuck it down field like Vadgers or Wilson.

    Instead, he throws a checkdown

    • MB30SD

those are potentially the ugliest uniforms I’ve ever seen. Creamsickle 2.0

    • BerwynBomber

Tannehill stinks but there are a lot of starting QBs who don’t have the presence of mind to take advantage of those free plays. Best I’ve ever seen at it are Rodgers and Peyton. Brady and Brees don’t let many of those opportunities pass by either.

      • willbest

I always thought the false starts that don’t get called before the ball gets snapped should provide the defense with the same free play the offense gets.

        • BerwynBomber

          Not an completely insane idea.

I used to think O PI should result in change of possession but I’ve since changed my mind. But D PI often remains a heckuva lot more punitive than O PI because of the former’s spot foul nature.

  • Why the HECK is Isiah Pead getting reps over Ajayi?

    3rd and 6, Pead draw. 4rth down.

That’s Birdcageish. Now I know where he learned it from.

    • MB30SD

draws don’t work in the pros unless your oline is beastly and the other team’s front 4-7 sucks… you know, like the cowboys against us.

      • Huge Bears Penis

or any other team against us.

        • willbest

I think we could take the Rams

          • Huge Bears Penis

maybe, but they have Gurley, he might be able to carry the one guy on our defense that can tackle 10 yards

      • SC Dave

Draws work when you have a credible passing game.

    • 20 mins for Bengals
      5 Mins for Fins.

Fins holding Bengals O to FGs (before the dam inevitably breaks).
      Ineffective run game
      Bozo QB
      questionable personnel use

      Sounds familiar.

  • Huge Bears Penis

do they seriously have a poll on which beer can is better?

    • SC Dave

Hey, it’s probably more legitimate than which presidential candidate is better…

      • Huge Bears Penis

lol – I think I found my write in candidate!

        • SC Dave

          A can of Billy Beer?

Damnit, and I *so* should have written it CANdidate…

          • Huge Bears Penis

PBR – because it’s the Blue Ribbon of beers so it has to be good.

          • They don’t just hand out those ribbons willy-nilly.

          • Malice Halice

R there “growlers ” in Chicago? Minny dont cuz we don’t slang liq on Sundays so it makes me wonder if chicago brewerys got growlers.

          • I don’t know. I don’t live in Chi, I live in L.A.

But I don’t think I’ve heard of growlers even over here. What is it?

          • Malice Halice

Tad bit bigger than a 40. But it’s fresh beer that you can take home. Only available at brewerys. So if you love a local brew u can get “take home” beer from them. Some of the growlers have some cool designs

          • SC Dave

Here they have them in many beer stores, and even groceries. I can fill growlers at the freaking Piggly Wiggly.

          • SC Dave

32 or 64 oz bottles that you get filled from taps and take home.

          • MB30SD

Seriously? You are such a hipster.

Lemme guess, your drink in an olde fashion served by a dude with a handlebar mustache, a flannel, skinny jeans, and black rimmed glasses.

            Siiigh

          • SC Dave

I would be shocked if they didn’t, I mean we have had them for years in South Carolina.

  • Malice Halice

Y Adam gase look like Cutty right now?
Soo great in Denver when u got the best qb ever calling your plays. With a D that compliment the O. Karma a bitch for leaving Fox. Now look, INT for gase. Correction. Fumble

  • Hand it off to best HB.

    There’s a concept

    SMH

  • Strip sack fumble where Tannenhil doesn’t feel the rush or climb the pocket

The fins are the Bears south!

  • BerwynBomber

At one point I thought Tannenhill could be, like Cutty, a borderline top-16 guy, but damn he has looked crappy the last year+. Even under Gase now.

Maybe there is a little square peg in a round hole aspect going on with Tannenhill. He seemed a much more effective QB when he was running the run-option stuff a couple of years ago. Most likely will result in a shortened career, but hell, it’s Tannenhill. Get what you can out of him. It’s not like you would be shortening the career of some future career destined for Canton.

    • Tannenhill looks a lot like Cutty IMO. That’s prolly why the Fins wanted Gase.

      Good arm, mobile, streaky.

The bad too. No pocket presence. questionable accuracy and leadership skills. TO machine.

      • AlbertInTucson

Tannehill sure has the strip/sack down.

        • MB30SD

It’s a learned skill Al, he must have been studying cutty intently

      • BerwynBomber

Some similarities but Cutty’s a much better passer/tradition pocket QB. Tannenhill is a better pure runner.

That’s why I would go back to that run-option stuff. I’m not a huge fan of it but when you got guys like Kaep, Tannenhill, or hell even Tebus from back in the day, it makes some sense.

When the fins beat us a couple/few years ago at Soldier, Tannenhill had a good passing day but he also, IIRC, had a couple of huge, long runs. That shit puts your QB at risk but it can also stress out the D. Kaepernick, as an example, used to murder the Cheese with that stuff.

        • And Gase used some option with Cutty last year early, which helped.

Maybe he should implement it more, esp if Gase is gonna look for another QB anyways.

          • A7Xthebest

Lol Shanahan ran the option with Cutler in Denver, with much success. So of course we never ever tried that here.

        • Joecashflow

I remember watching da Bears donut the fins in Miami 22-0, pre Tannehill, but a beautiful thing.

          • MB30SD

Yeah winning is fucking awesome. Don’t remember a thing about it.

  • Malice Halice

I’m excited for the SB performance. I’m not a fan of her but I do know she can perform. N her new track is horrifically catchy. Fuck adele stiff ass.

    • BerwynBomber

I’m never excited about any SB halftime but I’m upvoting you for your candor. And I’m fine with her as a choice. Better her than the usual dinosaur act.

      • Malice Halice

Yea “excited ” was quite strong.

        • BerwynBomber

          Embrace your inner gaga …

          • Malice Halice

I’m just waiting on AL to parody it with “it wasn’t drugs”
            Classic

  • Let’s see if I can guess.

    3rd and 5.

    Some slant or screen.

  • Malice Halice

Gase is providing for the dolphins as Langford for da Bears.
I swear wasn’t gase responsible for the record setting Broncos offense.
Same guy can’t make a play to convert a 3rd down till da 2nd half.
    Well dayum!

    • Irish Sweetness

Weren’t the Broncos offense responsible for the record setting Broncos offense?

Ron Turner could have called plays for Montana and Rice, does he get the credit?

  • That’s just bad Oline play.
They actually have a double on Atkins, but the Olinemen doesn’t funnel him towards the outside. What a maroon.

  • Malice Halice

STOP WITH DA MUHFUCKIN SCREENS! PLZ GASE I BEG OF U!
Its like watching last year again.

    • SC Dave

Is gase calling the play ? Do the Dolphins not have an OC?

      • Malice Halice

Yea obviously but gase has to be the main play caller knowing his resume.

      • BerwynBomber

        Gase = fingerprints (I presume)

    • Gase is like a limp Trestman.

  • willbest

Al got me looking at the Cap for next year

Bears currently have $7 million in unused cap after the Long deal and Sitton signing. Slated to have $55 million in cap with an estimated $166 mil (though there is cause to believe it might not be that high if viewership stays down).

FA’s that might be considered better than JAGs
    ————
    Alshon Jeffery
    Marquess Wilson
    Sam Acho
    CornWash

    Jacoby Glenn (exclusive restricted)
    Connor Shaw (exclusive restricted)

Players worth cut consideration on value

    ———————
    Eddie Royal (4.5 million savings)
Lamarr Houston (5 mil savings 2 mil dead money)
Bobby Massie (5 million savings 1 mil dead money)
Akiem Hicks (5 million savings, 500k dead money)
Jay Cutler (14 million savings, 2 million dead money)

So we can make BIG plays next year in FA

    • willbest

Eric Berry is apparently playing on the franchise tag. They could tag him again for 12.5 million but there is a good chance he hits FA.

Matt Kalil is also an FA, but I would assume the Vikings would get a deal done with him.

      • BerwynBomber

Kalil is sketchy though, even when healthy. High pick with a whiff of bust about him. He might have been a top five draft guy.

    • BerwynBomber

HIcks and Massie basically have one year option deals?

      Bit surprised by that.

      • willbest

Porter does too, but he is only making 3.5 million and I figured he is playing well enough to justify that. Same with Zach Miller

        • BerwynBomber

Porter doesn’t surprise me. I just thought we had to offer a couple of years each for Hicks and Massie. Silver linings, I guess.

          • willbest

I honestly don’t know how Massie and Houston make the team next year.

          • madscout12

Houston maybe…depending on what we have for pass rush.

            Massie has a snowball’s chance…

          • willbest

Houston has spent 2 of his 3 years on IR. Rule #1 gotta stay healthy enough to play.

          • madscout12

Yeah. But if we have money to play with and decide not to get another pass rusher, or don’t have to rely on him, he could be decent.

    • Can’t cut Hicks. We’re superthin at Dline already.

Royal looks good in the slot. Better than Wilson? how much better?

      Massie can be replaced.

We all know where I stand on CUT-ty

      • willbest

I am not suggesting we cut them. Just pointing out where major money can be found from guys who may or may not be performing at that level.

        • Yeah, I know you’re not suggesting that.

          Just thinking aloud.

There will certainly be some surprise cuts too.

      • Irish Sweetness

Who the fuck is Marquess Wilson? Are you guys still banging on about him?

Eddie is probably our all-round best receiver BTW.

    • BearDown100393

Name a better valued QB than Jay Cutler at $14 million.

      • madscout12

Jay and a promising rookie QB competing it out for a job.

      • BerwynBomber

Wentz, Semien, Dalton, Smith, Prescott, etc, …?

We already suffered the enema of Cutty’s contract in the first year. But I don’t think it will be strictly a money calculation whether he is here or not.

        • BearDown100393

Lol, I’ll rephrase. Name a better valued QB than Jay Cutler at $14 million that might be available to sign for next season.

          • BerwynBomber

True but then you get to the calculation is that the best way for this team to spend $14M right now. Hoyer is obviously inferior to Cutty but he also costs $750K of guaranteed money — less than 1/14 of Cutty’s price.

So with the money saved you can go out and purchase a couple of more Freeman/Travathan-level starters.

Anyway, I get your point. At $14M he is not bad market value. I suspect the Bears will keep him and draft a kid. But if they let go of Fox, then I could see Cutty gone. But I don’t see that happening.

          • willbest

Well Hoyer takes 2 million because he is going to be a backup. His Agent will insist on $5-7 million if you plan on using him as a starter (RG3, Chase Daniel, Nick Foles, McCown).

          • 5-7M a year?

            Maybe.

But if it’s his only starting opportunity, I think Hoyer would take it instead of making 2M and being a backup, make like 3M and be a starter.

          • willbest

I would also point out you aren’t just limited to Hoyer. You have Keenum, Cassel, Sanchez, Gabbert if your goal is to shore up cap and tank another year. Cousins also won’t get tagged a second time if you want somebody that qualifies as an NFL starter, but then you are probably going to end up paying him 17-18 million like all the other NFL starters.

          • I think Hoyer is the best from that batch, except maybe Cousins, but yeah, unless he totally blows, he’ll cost.

But we don’t have to tank. Our team naturally sucks with or without Hoyer; Cutler will make us a 6 win team at best.

          • BerwynBomber

I’ll still take Butt Fumble in a heartbeat over Hoyer. Higher ceiling. Can get the ball downfield. Has won big games. Didn’t shit the bed in the post-season.

And I’d still look into Glennon in TB if we go the bridge/rookie route.

          • BerwynBomber

No way on Cousins. Cutler’s better and potentially cheaper.

I’d still be willing to go Butt Fumble or Glennon as affordable bridge guys with a rookie. Those were my choices in ’14 and two years I’d still go with them. Gabbert might be okay but to be honest I’ve never seen a lot of him since he salvaged his career.

          • willbest

Which is why we aren’t moving on from Cutler unless we end up with a top 5 draft pick and draft his replacement.

You don’t go get a Jimmy G or a Dak to start, and you don’t stick them behind a Hoyer.

          • BerwynBomber

I don’t think we will move on from Cutler either. I just think the cheap bridge/rookie coupling would be the smarter, more beneficial move to the team/franchise, unless you really think Cutty makes this team an SB contender.

I thought it in ’14 and nothing now makes me think I was wrong then.

          • willbest

You can win an SB with Cutler, and with surprisingly few offensive weapons if you couple it with an elite D.

          • BerwynBomber

We’ll see. So far the whole “you can win an SB with Cutler” wish is about as real as “Jay can be an MVP”.

          • willbest

Jay can’t be MVP, but 2010 shows that just him, Forte, and Gould was enough to get it done on offense.

          • BerwynBomber

The D carried that team. At that point a Trent Dilfer-like journeyman can get it done. It’s the Peyton Manning thing from last year. Yeah, if your D is badass enough you can have the worst QB in the league and get it done.

          • willbest

Cutler was a lot better in 2010 than Manning in 2015.

            INT % 3.7 vs. 5.1
Yards per attempt 7.6 vs. 6.8
            TD % 5.3 vs. 2.7

And as good as the Bears D was in 2010 the 2015 Donks was better. But obviously luck is involved. San Fran never won the SB and their team was amazing for 3 years.

But with Hoyer you need Denvers 2015 D, and with Jay Cutler you need Bears 2010 D. Where with Tom Brady you only need a Pats D which is always very stout but rarely is it the most feared.

          • BerwynBomber

No way you would have to pay Hoyer $5-7M. At most $2-4. Most of these back-up guys only pull in a $1M a year. And if you’re drafting a kid, these veteran bridge guy aren’t guaranteed shit in terms of the depth chart. Their agent wouldn’t have a leg to stand on.

Btw, Foles is probably one of the highest paid backups in the league at $1.75.M.

          • Irish Sweetness

One more, paying QB 20M dollars and then paying his replacement less than 2 is absolute insanity for a billion dollar organization.

When the CEO gets sick do you send the janitor in to do his job?

          • MB30SD

            Supply/demand and skill level.

There’s a ton more janitors than CEOs

          • Joecashflow

            Hahaha!

          • willbest

Lots of backups make over 3 million. But nobody is giving backup money to starters that ought to be backups.

          • BerwynBomber

Sure, they are. It’s all about the market and supply and demand. Do you think Hoyer is going to be able to command $5-7M next year because he could compete for a starting job on a team when no other team is willing to offer him that money? A GM would tell his agent to pound sand and then his agent would laugh and say we are just kidding and take the $2M with the chance to be a starter.

DEN brought Butt Fumble in last year to compete for the starter’s job at $1M base salary.

          • willbest

Here are your backups over 3 million
Kaep $17 million-ish (there are descalators)
            Daniel makes 7 mil.
            Foles makes 6.25 million.
            McCown 4.6 million
            Chad Henne 4 mil
            Drew Stanton 3.25 mil
            Shaun Hill 3.25 mil
            Colt McCoy 3 mil

The only week 1 starters making less than $10 million are either on rookie deals or

            1) RG3 (7 million)
            2) Keenum (3.6 million) who wasn’t supposed to start
            3) Blaine Gabbert (2 million) who’s backup is making $17+ million

          • BerwynBomber

            Foles is 1.75M

            To quote from Sportrac:

“Nick Foles signed a 1 year, $1,750,000 contract with the Kansas City Chiefs, including an average annual salary of $1,750,000. In 2016, Foles will earn a base salary of $1,250,000 and a roster bonus of $500,000. Foles has a cap hit of $1,750,000 while his dead money value is $1,450,000.”

          • willbest

There are escalator triggers in his contract based on playtime. Basically if Alex Smith goes down he gets paid like a starter

      • willbest

Which is why I think Jay is the Bears starting QB next year unless we draft a QB in the top 5. But he most certainly would have trade value. Jets (the Bromance lives on!) and he is reunited with his favorite safety valve (Forte).

      • Irish Sweetness

Or who and what replaces Hicks.

        • willbest

Terry Williams I thought. I didn’t say we should cut them, but is Hicks earning his $5 million? I don’t know enough about D-line to properly evaluate that, I just know in the general sense we aren’t getting any pressure.

  • Fins really are the Bears south.

That guy who roughed the Punter I would’ve cut on the field. Told him to take off his shoulder pads, go to the locker room, and book his own way home.

    • MB30SD

      damn, cold

    • CanadaBear

It was beyond stupid. At least he got his money’s worth. He sent him flying into his own guy. That had to hurt.

  • Bengals D implementing what I think all Ds should do with short passing offense.

Dline count to 2 seconds then jump with your hands up.

    Instant swat.

  • AlbertInTucson

Yep. Watching the Fins is just TOO reminiscent of you-know-who.

    • Bender McLugh

      Who

      • AlbertInTucson

This was like watching another now all-too-familiar Bear performance.

        • Bender McLugh

          ah right, so fun

  • AlbertInTucson

    A Bushrod highlight.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Nice effort by Landry.

  • AlbertInTucson

    A shot of Gase’ gaze.

  • AlbertInTucson

Ryan Tannehill. Who had a field day in Chicago last season.

    • Fins just quit.

      Garbage time.

      • AlbertInTucson

It was garbage time for quite a while tonight.

    • BerwynBomber

Technically, I think that was in ’14 not ’15 …

  • AlbertInTucson

Another “Old Fogy” sign: I have NO idea who Christy Moore is.

    • Cormonster

He’s an old fogy Irish folk singer. You know, the kind of music that makes you want to put a gun to your head and pull the trigger by the 3rd song.

      • Bender McLugh

change “gun to your head” with “Guinness to your lips”

        • MB30SD

Hahaha, death by Guinness. A very popular Irish suicide method… it can just take 50 years

          • Bender McLugh

            ’cause Guinness heals you too

          • Irish Sweetness

You have to smoke a lot too, and eat a fried breakfast every day.

          • MB30SD

i really wanna try haggis… yes, I know it’s scottish, but still

        • CanadaBear

Really depends on my mood. I’m either all in and love it or if I’m not in the mood I’ll run as far away as possible.

      • CanadaBear

Kinda like this Guy. Or not! Gotta love Buddy!

        https://youtu.be/oxTygifcL_o

        • Bender McLugh

          Buddy is DA BES

          • CanadaBear

I’ve spent about an hour with him over the years. Paid him for a gig back in the ’80’s and again in Calgary for a big Festival. Super nice person. Esp when he has a good buzz on (after the gig in the ’80’s). He’s a freak of nature for sure.

        • Bender McLugh
        • Cormonster

He’s still kicking ass. I loved the Skin Deep album a few years back with Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, Eric Clapton, and Robert Randolph guesting on it.

    • Irish Sweetness

Thirteen minutes and forty seconds. Nobody writes them quite like Christy!

      • MB30SD

        No tanks

  • Irish Sweetness

What’s you favorite Christy Moore song, jefe?

I have to go with ‘Me and The Rose’ … a very long song about courting a Ban Garda (female Irish police officer) who enters the Rose of Tralee contest. The DTs and Lisdoonvarna are also a classic.

    Up Down!

  • Joecashflow

Alshon the #10 WR in total yds. The great shine thru. The surprise is Melvin Jones #1 by almost 100 yds. Had him flagged to take in fantasy, but didn’t. I suspected he might be the long threat with CJ gone, but who knew. GB made him look all pro. Will be interesting what the Bears do against him.

    • MB30SD

      Guess

    • BearDown100393

      Ask Dez about Christian Jones.

      • MB30SD

If you translate jone’s name into Swahili, it means “whiff”

        • BearDown100393

          “knee breaker” in Klingon also.

      • Joecashflow

Yeah, sorry to see anybody taken out by injury. I suspect 2, 80 yd, over the top TDs to Jones. We bring out the best in WRs, post Peanut days. I say that now, so that it won’t happen!

        • SC Dave

Our DBs have not been turrible, IMO, given the pass rush we have.

          • willbest

The DBs have made rookie mistakes being rookies an all, but otherwise have been the bright spot on the D

          • MB30SD

You spelled don’t have wrong david

    • BerwynBomber

Somebody said Jacoby Glenn is rated the tenth best CB in the league after three weeks on PFF.

Weird about the Cheese. Their rush D — a perennial disaster — finally performs decently and now their pass D can be shredded.

      P.S. Alshon’s a beast.

      • Sactowns#1

P.S.S. Alshon is gone at the end of this year so lets enjoy it while it lasts.

        • willbest

Because somebody will give him $16 million a year and Pace won’t?

        • Bender McLugh

          I don’t think so

          • Sactowns#1

What recent moves in the past make you think they Bears are willing to retain a high end player who is still performing well?

          • willbest

            touche

          • Bender McLugh

he’s not a head-case and he’s the #1, by a wider margin than many of us were hoping. If White steps up tons more than he has shown already then I can see them letting Alshon go. Huge if.

          • Bender McLugh

plus, I just want him to stay a Bear.

      • TBC

“Decently” is an understatement. It’s not going to hold up, and I think they’ve faced some weak rushing attacks, but right now it is downright historic. It’s not just the stats either, they are passing the eye test.

        • TBC

“Shredded” is an appropriate term for the pass defense, though.

    • TBC

Marvin Jones caught a 70 yard TD and a 35 yard TD when the DBs tripped. I wouldn’t be too concerned.

  • Big Mike

Whitehair. Good pick. Said it when they drafted him. https://twitter.com/PFF/status/780892527989751808/photo/1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

    • willbest

Then why does it feel like we never get a push?

      • chitownproud85

This was my thought. Interior of the O-line might look great to PFF, but…the eye test says that o-line has been inconsistent at best. Maybe I’m just seeing Massie in my head over and over again, and I’m not being fair. I dont know. Just doesnt feel like a strength of the team through 3 weeks, middle of the line or the unit as a whole.

        • Big Mike

They don’t run enough to know. Pressure has consistently come from simple stunts that baffle Massie.

          • Irish Sweetness

Which is on Cody to call the protections no? That’s why I don’t buy grades. They have no idea who is on who.

          • Big Mike

The calls may have been right. Can’t anticipate a stunt. Massive has just whiffed.

    • willbest

Also, why the hell is the swing tackle not out there on the right side? That is horrible

    • Johnnywad

      Grassu is fucked

      • willbest

Not if we can’t find a competent tackle.

        • Johnnywad

Disagree. I don’t think Whitehair is moving. And you’re not moving Long again. Or Sitton. Hroniss isn’t a tackle. So he’s a backup guard/center at best if Whitehair progresses from here. The RT next year will likely be a noob.

          • willbest

I am moving Long again. I hate the idea of doing it, and the only reason Long shouldn’t be at tackle right now is because his arm doesn’t work. Massie is horrible and there is no other way Long isn’t a massive upgrade at that spot.

          • Big Mike

Not talking about now. Grasu is out for the year. Barring the addition of a quality tackle on the offseason my proposed lineup is the best available

          • SC Dave

I’m with Johnny. Leave Long alone and get a real tackle.

          • willbest

Well if you can land a standout tackle that is ideal, but at this point we need a competent one.

          • Big Mike

Like that’s easy. But yeah sure. Quality depth is great.

          • Big Mike

Could be. But if the roster is what we have now Long to tackle, Whitehair to G and Grady to Center is far and away the best lineup.

      • chitownproud85

Truth. The kid keeps it up its a job he wont lose(to the other kid…).

      • Big Mike

Who knows? Whitehair could kick out to guard if Grasu’s as good as we’ve been told. Long back to RT.

        • Irish Sweetness

Shouldn’t Whitehair go out to tackle. Didn’t he play there in college?

          • Big Mike

He did. But he’s. It suited for this position at the pro level. Long. Ring able to that is a testament to his freakish athleticism.

      • I am perfectly fine with having a (hopefully) quality backup interior OL who’s around for another 2 years for cheap.

        • Big Mike

Not a bad option if they address both tackle positions

  • TBC

    Lol look at Massie’s grade…

    • TBC

      (Re: Big Mike)

    • SC Dave

      Do I have to?

      • Huge Bears Penis

yes you do. Turn off the Forte highlight videos, pull your pants back up, and go look at his grade.

        • MB30SD

          hee hee

        • SC Dave

You really are an asshole, aren’t you?

          Laugh the last time, troll.

          • Huge Bears Penis

I have been accused of that in the past. Not gong to deny it either. but come on that was funny.

  • willbest

SC Dave, your boy Gary Johnson just picked up the endorsement from the Chicago Tribune.

    • SC Dave

My ” boy” is not running. What I am calling for is simply another voice in the debates.

      • Bender McLugh

as far as I know he stays local in Chicago, but he plays with several bands too, so not sure if he travels with them.

        • CanadaBear

Good on him! It is much harder to be in a touring band these days. You get paid crap, stay in crappy motels, eat crappy food, ride about 10 hours/day in a vehicle, all so they can play for a couple of hours. The local bands here (and most places) are making the same money as back in the ’70’s ($100/person/night). I’ve had numerous musicians tell me they would play for free but you have to pay them to travel.

Joey Bosa will have to wait another week to impress us with his awesomeness on the field after impressing us with the awesomeness of his agent.

    • Malice Halice

He gone hit da ground planking. Is he even conditioned for nfl physical play given the high standard he’s acquired due to dis hold out fiasco? I hope he a savage but I doubt it if he’s physically ready. Half the game is (something) mental at that so it’s tight on him I believe.

    • I really don’t get why most fans are pissed at Bosa here. He asked for what every other top 5 pick in the last 10 years has gotten. Either no offsets or a bigger up-front guarantee.

SD tried to go cheap on him and play for both, he stood his ground. SD was the one trying to break the mold for their own benefit, not Bosa. They deserve fans’ ire for being cheapskates. Bosa did nothing wrong.

      • willbest

          • This is why I wanted Joseph!

Amos hits hard enough to cuz a few fumbles at least.

          • SC Dave

This. Although it would be nice to have some real hands back there.

          • BerwynBomber

Exactly. Seems like most DBBers love Amos but I have yet to see him make a single play on a ball in the air in the 1+ year time he has been in uniform.

          • He wasn’t drafted to be a ball hawk.

Amos showed a lil in college, but he was expected to simply be a hammer, have adequate coverage skill, and not fuck up too badly.

He was the #142nd pick in the draft.

He’s outperforming a lot of other players chosen ahead of him, esp considering the cast around him.

          • CanadaBear

Considering the Beloved’s past history drafting mid rd safeties, Amos is a pleasant surprise. HJQ even more so since he was an UFA.

If you are in daBlog’s FF league – remember to read the manager’s note on the ‘league tab’.
4ever takes time every week to fill us in on good matchups and usually a Bears tidbit.
    Thanks Butch!
This week, he tells us to keep an eye on Trac vs Artoo. A good match up, maybe. But the game to watch, is Shady vs GP. Almost a must-win for GP(already 2 losses to teams he should have beat, and a rough couple matchups in the next few weeks). I think the game will be a lot closer than its current 19 point spread.

    • Yeah, actually I was gonna post “grudge matches”

      Shady and GP are one

Me and NB are the other.

Those matches go back a few years.

Shady is in a deep hole since GP is up 30 with AJ Green blowing up last night.

GP in some ways had reaally bad breaks. He scores like 180 and still loses to me. Then Freeman blows up on MNF and eeks out a win for Sac.

      • Freddy G.P. Soft

Had I played Alex Smith instead of Dak Prescott, I beat you in Week 1. I had Smith in there until Saturday.

Smith had showed shit in the pre-season, showing an offense with a heavy run game and lots of short throws. Plus, it’s Alex Smith.

Nope. It turns out Week 1 against the Chargers is a fucking track meet. Prescott gave me like 18, Smith was on fire for 39.

I really really really wanted Butch payback in Week 1 for the loss in the bowl game last year. Like, I wanted that game by alot.

Dez, Demaryous AND Sanders, Cooper, Benjamin, Mike Evans, Jordan Mathews, and Parker

The only real HB you have now is Hill, and he’s in a timeshare with Gio.

If you had a real HB, I would offer you some of my HBs.

Dowell Loggains doesn’t doubt Jay Cutler’s mettle.

“This guy is the toughest guy I’ve ever been around in 12 years coaching in the National Football League,” the Bears’ offensive coordinator said Thursday. “He is resilient. The minute that he’s ready to go and gets healthy and is ready to play, then if coach (John Fox) feels that way and we feel that way as an organization, then he’ll be out there.”

        • SC Dave

Yeah, maybe some dicks then. The whole NFCC thing was, like…

To think that people thought he was being a pussy. My belief then, as now, is he thought the best for the team was to have someone in that had two legs.

Ever since, that spectre has led him to play when he shouldn’t have. Most recent example, Philly game this season.

          • willbest

But Brees sort of did it!!

I never had a problem with. But people see him riding a bike and being a pouty bitch and apparently that is the defining moment of his entire football career.

          • BerwynBomber

“But Brees sort of did it!!”

            Sort of?

The whole Cutty 2010 NFCC on a bike imbroglio was a classic case of the truth being somewhere in the middle. He was never the quitter/pussy that some in the national media contend he was nor is he the toughest QB in league as the Jay defenders (including Loggains) would have it.

          • Didn’t Wilson just finish playing a game last week on an MCL sprain?

I know he’s projected to play this week, but I guess we’ll see how effective he is.

I think it’s the same inj though.

          • BerwynBomber

Wilson was, at the least, relieved for a spell. Don’t know if he finished. And yes he is apparently making a go of it this weekend.

Brees never missed a game with the same injury. Rivers played an entire AFCC with a torn ACL. Romo played with a ruptured spleen. Hell, even Rodgers never missed a game with a torn calf muscle.

Jay’s not a pussy, but the toughest ever fabulism is equally silly. I have no doubt he plays injured. I have no doubt most if not all QBs do the same.

Can’t remember. Did BUF give up a # of picks to climb the board for him?

      • willbest

They traded their 9th overall to move up to 4th. Plus their following years 1st (ended up being 19th) and 4th for him.

They however could have just stayed where the F they were and drafted ODB

        • BerwynBomber

Ouch. Dude hasn’t been a complete bust but not looking like a good move at the moment.

    • That’s why I’m starting to rethink Alshon.

Seems like a lot of WRs are fragile. Dez, Julio, Bmarsh, etc always are dealing with something or other.

Then again, those guys take hits and get contorted in ways that would break the rest of us, while Alshon seems to role out of bed and sprain a hammy.

No doubt some will say “he started” last week, but he was obviously hobbled – again.

      • Irish Sweetness

Jerry Rice was a skinny fuck and he did it for 21 years or whatever. Walter missed one game. They looked after their bodies.

        • SC Dave

Jerry Rice was NOT a skinny fuck.

        • It’s crazy cuz i think those smaller types (ODB, Brown, Hopkins) might be more durable than those big rebounders who take more hits.

          • willbest

Getting the ball in space, catching it in stride, on the sidelines, in the end zone are safer. If you have to come back or wait on the ball, push to the 1st down marker, catching it traffic or through a double team you are going to get hurt. And that is what the 6’3″ guys get asked to do.

Steve Smith Sr. is like what 97 years old right now and can still play because he is a little guy and doesn’t take those hits

          • CanadaBear

But then you see Wes Welker and realize it isn’t all that safe out there for little guys either. Overall, I agree about the big boys taking more hits but when those little guys get lit up …

  • I was listening to one of my fav podcasts, and they raised an interesting point about how it might be a new trend that teams are de-emphasizing QBs in favor of D and supporting cast. Few points.

    1. Broncos. Yes. latest example into “just any QB will do” corner. But they were just the latest. We all know about the Ravens and Penis, but a few other teams could be brought up too. 9ers with Kap. Wilson with SEA (he’s better now, but at that time, he was no HOFer). Even those Jet teams with a young Sanchize, etc etc.

    2. College is no longer a QB factory. Back in the days, guys like Marino, Elway, Kelly, Montana were groomed for years in a certain program, then groomed some more on the NFL bench in some cases (Young).

Obviously, that’s no longer the case as college is read-option heavy.

So the chances of landing another Brady or Vadgers are slim, so why bother trying to land one? NFL teams seem to be saying we’ll try the other formula. DEFENSE and JAG QB.

    3. Even if you point to the glory days of Unitas who called his own plays, the offenses back then weren’ as complicated as they are now.

You give an MIT playbook to some jock who was reading Daffy Duck cards on the sidelines, well, you can guess the results.

So now maybe the tide is turning, esp when coaches no longer get like 3 years to be able to reprogram a QB.
Instead of landing a Brees, they’ll settle for a DAQ like QB and play towards their strength.

They argued that those who are resistant are still stuck in the pre-FA mentality, coaches who still assume they’ll have time to try to make a QB in their own image, and run a super convoluted offense that’s all about how great they are, and not about how it improves the QB or team.

On this issue, college was ahead of the curb, and more NFL teams might be willing to go the “meh” QB route (Daq, Semien, OZ, Fitz…)and invest in everything else.

Obviously, having BOTH a true franchise QB AND elite D is the ideal, but it seems like more teams are buying into the Broncos formula.

    • TBC

I’m not necessarily arguing with you, but Denver’s championship was…… ridiculous. That team had no business winning anything.

      • Is Vadgers as good if he didn’t sit behind needle-dick?

Dunno. But once he began he seemed ahead of the curb.

        He didn’t get Carr-ed

      • BerwynBomber

Except that their D was the best in the league over the course of the year.

      • Johnnywad

He said about the team that went 15-4 and won a title with two different quarterbacks, neither of which were any good at the time. And here they sit at 3-0 this season with yet another quarterback.

This may be your best yet. Keep’em coming dumb ass.

    • TBC

Also, Kaepernick sucks now, but he was kinda lethal in 2012. 2015 Peyton manning, he was not.

Gore at his best, 3 pro bowl of linemen paving the road, a read option that was the perfect compliment to his skillset and a stifling defense with Willis and Bowman. Yup, many teams were worked over by that 9ers squad.

          • TBC

Are you disagreeing that Kaepernick was very good in 2012?

          • We give EVERY QB a coming out Party.

            Did it for Wilson. Kap.

heck, just this year alone: Oz, Wentz, Daq.

    • Irish Sweetness

Isn’t it one of the oldest adages about winning the Lombardi – defense wins champs? A great offense cannot necessarily operate against a great defense.

It’s a good point about grooming QBs. Young said he learned football sitting on the BUY bench watching Mac. Then he sits on the bench watching the GOAT. It can’t be any coincidence that a HOFer had to wait in line behind the best college QB, and then sit watching the best-ever in the pros. It should be an apprenticeship.

Other positions too. We should have had an apprentice for Olin and Brian … we never even replaced them.

I’d go a bit further than D though. Even with the great defense, a good running game helps. Buffalo have that. The Eagles have it. Kansas has it.

We might be two OTs and a deadly DE away from normality. We have good corners. If the safeties step up a level there may be hope for 10-6 next year. With our roster and the injuries we’ve had, it could be possible to do 2-14 followed by 10-6 when (if) everyone is healthy and another draft and round of FA has been had.

  • TBC

I love that Jeff asks a Lions reporter for advice on how to “stay motivated” when the team you’re covering has no shot. Because he covers the Lions. Get it? Har har.

The Lions have been to the playoffs twice since the Bears last went, the Lions have swept the Bears three years in a row, and the Bears are coming off back-to-back last place finishes.

Cognitive dissonance is a helluva drug.

I had a friend in H.S. that was a Harbaugh lifer. Go back and look at his stats when he was a player. He was probably the 2nd best Bears QB of my lifetime. Was solid with the Colts as well.

94 With the Colts was his banner year. Did like to throw pics though. I still remember the pick 6 he threw in the last minute loss to the Lions when he changed the play Ditka sent in. Ditka was pissed! He got let go or traded the next year I think.

      • How could Harbs not have HCd the Bears?!

The last 0-3 start was last year, before that it was 2003, which got us Lovie Smith in 2004.

The last 0-4 start was 2000, our record that year was 5-11

the 0-4 start before that was 1998, our record that year was 4-12

In 1997 (also a 4-12 season) we actually started 0-7

Before that you have to go back to 1972 for 0-3-1 start ultimatedly ending up 4-9-1

    1969 1-13 starting 0-7.

        Brian Piccolo’s last TD.
2 TD passes & 72 yards rushing from Bobby Douglass.

I got gamepass, which is different. Sunday ticket gives you live games, gamepass does not. I can get live radio, but the video is not available until after the game is over.

Thanks. I thought $99 seemed awfully cheap.

          • SC Dave

I think Sunday Ticket was $349.

What they should do is a single tram Sunday Ticket for like $149.

      NTTAWWT…?

      • MB30SD

Of course not. I couldn’t give. Smaller fuck who people want to screw. I just find it to be a bizarre commercial

  • Is that QB Jackson from Louisville supposed to be a top pick next draft?

Think that dude would get broken in half in the NFL.

    • MB30SD

      Yep, not really a qb

      • He weighs like 205. That’s 20 pounds lighter than Cutty.

        No way.

Need man beef (that’s what she said!)

        6’6 240

        • MB30SD

If he’s going to be “that kind” of qb in the nfl, yeeeaaah. Are there any of those any more?

          • Wentz!

          • MB30SD

Stop that. He’s more like a vick

          • Kap is pretty big (well, pre vegan). He also always kills the Pack.

Say we bring him in if we’re going the read-option route (along with a stud draft QB).

          • MB30SD

Maybe. Kid’s kind of a turd

        • Irish Sweetness

Yes. Draft a large, fast black man, or a bearded rapist. Or both.

      • Irish Sweetness

Not really a QB that scored 7 TDs last week?

Time to check this kid out methinks.

        • MB30SD

Yeah, he’s more of a running back, wildcat back. Name oneathose who’s been successful in the NFL.

Watson from Clemson is the much more complete qb… and can run too.

    • BerwynBomber

Nah, I don’t think any scouts/draft experts are projecting him like that … yet.

  • MB30SD

That bullware kid is a stud

  • MB30SD

Yeesh, Clemson throwing this game away… literally

  • BerwynBomber

Jackson (LOU) might be the most elusive dual threat college QB since Vick.

    • Irish Sweetness

And we have a shot at him, the Notre Dame kids, or anyone we want! Praise 8lb baby Jebus. Take good care of that thumb, Jay. See you at Christmas, hopefully.

      • TBC

        He’s not eligible until 2018.

        • Irish Sweetness

What’s the story with Malik Zaire?

  • Silva’s game preview.

    Detroit @ Chicago
Vegas Projected Score: Lions 24.75, Bears 21.75

Fantasy’s overall QB3 through three weeks, Matthew Stafford gets an enticing Week 4 draw against an injury-depleted Chicago defense that has allowed ascending point totals of 23, 29, and 31 to the Texans, Eagles, and Cowboys, two of whom are quarterbacked by rookies and the third by Brock Osweiler. Stafford has thrown multiple touchdown passes in eight of his last nine games and roasted Bears DC Vic Fangio’s defense with weekly finishes of QB1 and QB2 last year, combining for seven touchdowns and an absurd 750 total yards. Stafford is a top-five fantasy quarterback play in this matchup. … Although rookie Dwayne Washington’s Week 3 box score didn’t stand out against an elite Packers run defense, he ran with burst and violence between the tackles and played more than expected in a game with horrible script for the Lions, tallying 11 touches on 36% of the snaps despite a 31-3 deficit deep into the first half. The Lions’ goal-line and between-the-tackles specialist, Washington is an underrated flex play against a Bears defense that is still missing NT Eddie Goldman (ankle) and ILB Danny Trevathan (thumb), and was gashed by Cowboys RBs for 36-160-2 (4.44 YPC) rushing last Sunday night. Facing a Bears defense that has allowed the NFL’s most run plays (108), Washington should not go overlooked in DFS. … Theo Riddick has been a predictable disaster as a ball carrier (21-46-0) the past two games, but he remains a strong RB2 in PPR leagues. Riddick’s 16 catches rank second among running backs, and he is dominating playing time with Weeks 2-3 snap rates of 66%, 65%.

Stafford’s Weeks 1-3 target distribution: Marvin Jones 29; Golden Tate 22; Eric Ebron 20; Riddick 19; Anquan Boldin 16. … Fantasy’s No. 1 overall receiver following last week’s 6-205-2 explosion at Lambeau, Jones will do Week 4 battle with Bears second-year UDFA Jacoby Glenn and 30-year-old CB Tracy Porter on the perimeter. Although Glenn and Porter have held up surprisingly well early this year, four different receivers (Will Fuller, Jordan Matthews, Terrance Williams, Cole Beasley) have dropped 70-plus-yard games on Chicago’s secondary, and Dez Bryant (4-30-1) and DeAndre Hopkins (5-54-1) both hit pay dirt. Having clearly separated himself from Tate, Jones has earned every-week WR1 treatment. … Being used as a short-area gadget player, Tate has been a complete fantasy bust with scoreless yardage totals of 41, 13, 40. At this point, Tate may need an injury to Jones to become a legitimate asset. … Boldin has scored a touchdown in back-to-back weeks, but his target counts are 3, 7, 6 on the year and his big-play ability has all but vanished at age 36. Role-player possession targets Tate and Boldin are cannibalizing each other behind Jones. Boldin is a touchdown-dependent WR4/5. … Ebron ranks seventh among tight ends in targets, sixth in catches (14), and fifth in yards (168). That makes Ebron an every-week starter in season-long leagues. The Bears remain vulnerable in the middle of the field after losing ILB Trevathan, while SS Harold Jones-Quartey (concussion) is listed as questionable.

After quietly posting last week’s QB11 finish in Dallas, Brian Hoyer is worth a look as a Week 4 streamer and makes for a strong two-QB-league play against a Lions defense that has yielded league highs in passer rating (120.2) and touchdown passes (10) while allowing weekly finishes of QB1 (Andrew Luck), QB18 (Marcus Mariota), and QB5 (Aaron Rodgers). The Lions seem likely to pour points on Chicago, and Bears OC Dowell Loggains showed no fear in letting Hoyer dial up a high-volume passing attack against the Cowboys, dropping him back to pass 50 times versus 14 runs. The run-pass ratio should be more even against the Lions, but this is a good matchup and Hoyer’s weapons are above average at worst, particularly with Kevin White beginning to flash at least some playmaking ability. … The hottest season-long waiver wire pickup of Week 4, Jordan Howard gets a strong matchup right off the bat against a Lions defense that was gashed for a combined 39-241-0 (6.18 YPC) rushing line by Titans and Packers RBs in Weeks 2-3. Even if you leave out DeMarco Murray’s 67-yarder two weeks ago, Detroit has yielded a crisp 4.6 yards per carry during that two-game stretch. A one-speed back lacking much wiggle, Howard’s running talent is debatable but his passing-game usage has been a pleasant surprise with six catches on eight targets the past two weeks after Howard managed 24 receptions in three college seasons. Howard is a quality RB2 play with upside for more if the Bears’ defense can perform above expectation in this spot, improving game script and upping Howard’s usage.

Hoyer’s Week 3 target distribution: Kevin White 14; Zach Miller 9; Alshon Jeffery 7; Howard 6; Eddie Royal 3. … The good news is Jeffery has 70-plus yards in each of the Bears’ first three games, and he will do battle Sunday with a Lions defense that got creamed by Packers No. 1 receiver Jordy Nelson (6-101-2) last week. The bad news is Jeffery isn’t quite being used as a No. 1 receiver, instead working as a jump-ball specialist and field stretcher, almost like the Alvin Harper to White’s Michael Irvin. Jeffery remains a strong WR2 play with WR1 upside against the Lions, but he isn’t being force fed targets like he was last year. White has out-targeted Jeffery in two of the first three games. … Although White has been wildly ineffective on a yards-per-target basis — 4.9 to Jeffery’s 13.6 — White’s high-volume role puts him into WR3/flex consideration in a plus draw. Whereas Jeffery will face Lions top corner Darius Slay for most of this game, White (6’3/215) will mainly work against LCB Nevin Lawson (5’10/190). White beat Cowboys LCB Morris Claiborne for a 32-yard gain last Sunday night and is at least starting to show signs he can win against weaker corners. Lawson gave up two touchdowns in Detroit’s first three games. … The Lions yielded 7-88-3 to Colts tight ends in Week 1, 8-91-1 to Titans tight ends in Week 2, and 4-38-1 to Packers tight ends last week despite Jared Cook’s (ankle) early-game exit. After being nonexistent with Jay Cutler at quarterback, Miller (8-78-2) came alive with Hoyer under center. Miller is this week’s top streamer TE1 in the best-possible matchup for a tight end.

That’s crazy. I looked up a mock draft to see where Kizer might be going and how high we might have to be ….

“And with the first pick, the Chicago Bears select … DeShone Kizer…..”

“…The Bears are a complete mess, and they need to start over. That basically means jettisoning Jay Cutler, who has been a blight on the team and the franchise’s salary cap for far too long.

DeShone Kizer is currently the favorite to be the No. 1 overall pick. Some team sources have said that they favor him over Deshaun Watson and Brad Kaaya, and it’s easy to see why, thanks to his arm strength, accuracy and mobility. ”

I can see a QB with Kizer, with Cutty we kind of know it’s not going to happen.
